  Gorgeous area, gorgeous campus. I love what's going on there.

  20 years. I joined.

  Him nine and. 1/2 years. I was going to say, how long has

  it been for you? Has it really been almost 10

  years? Wow, yeah.

  I know him as High Point though. Oh, OK.

  All right, I I always think I, I associate him with high points.

  All right, Scott. So you've been around a lot of

  great institutions all the way from Olympic training center to
• 2:32
  other schools, Power Four and all those kind of things.

  It's where we just keep shrinking from Power 5, Power 4.
• 2:37
  I don't know how that's going to end up.
• 2:40
  But today we're talking about the NCAA and all the changes
• 2:43
  that are occurring, NIL roster caps, the whole and there's just
• 2:47
  so many avenues to take it. What's your thoughts, feelings,
• 2:50
  What's what's going on in your brain with all this stuff?

  And we would have Syracuse and Colgate, both Division One
• 3:05
  teams, come to our. Place Wow.
• 3:07
  And we did that. Year after year and you never
• 3:15
  see that. No.
• 3:17
  Unheard of. Yeah.
• 3:22
  The direction that things have been going since I was in
• 3:25
  college, 44 years. Ago, yeah.
• 3:29
  I coached in Division 2IN in out West Northern Colorado and we
• 3:34
  were, you know, well hosted by New Mexico and the Air Force
• 3:37
  Academy and Idaho State and Colorado State and Colorado.
• 3:41
  And we had athletes that could help their athletes and we
• 3:44
  scored meets and, you know, we we didn't come close to beating
• 3:47
  them, but we beat them in some events.
• 3:49
  But the coaches kind of relish the competition.
• 3:52
  And now it seems. Like more money's gotten into
• 3:54
  things and there's more pressure on the the coaches of the
• 4:00
  programs that really have. Great resources and.
• 4:03
  Funding and recruiting ability and all that thing.
• 4:06
  And so they, they want to really, I think put an arm link
• 4:11
  to all those programs that could be a possible threat.
• 4:13
  So, so you see, I would say even less, but I mean, I don't know
• 4:17
  the last time I saw a triangular meet even happening, but you're
• 4:20
  saying even less of the McCall meets of the mixed D2 and
• 4:23
  they're trying. To limit the competition, you
• 4:28
  get into me, but maybe you don't get lames or maybe you don't get
• 4:32
  everybody on your. Team in there, right?
• 4:33
  You know, and the idea. I think is, you know, if I can
• 4:38
  get a person to my conference me to prepare them and that's
• 4:42
  really what I care about. Because to be more.
• 4:44
  Selfish and I think, you know, coaches in the past that have
• 4:48
  helped us to California school, Dave Murray to Arizona was
• 4:52
  great, really gracious right back in the day when I would
• 4:55
  take a team down to Tucson from Greeley, Co And I think that
• 5:01
  that stuff is is kind of gone by the wayside.
• 5:03
  Yeah. Looking at what's in for them a
• 5:06
  little bit. More right?
• 5:07
  Now that the money and football and all this thing, it's it's
• 5:10
  turned into even more of a competitive, maybe homogenized
• 5:15
  situation where they can we control the the good venues and
• 5:19
  the. Needs right?
• 5:20
  We can. Kind of keep people in that we
• 5:22
  want and. People out there, yeah.
• 5:23
  I don't necessarily think that the more pressure on the schools
• 5:28
  that are getting more resources a bad thing.
• 5:30
  I I think of the old spider man quote of, you know, the great
• 5:32
  power comes great responsibility.
• 5:33
  If we're going to spend invest money into you.
• 5:35
  Well, it's money and so we got to get things out.
• 5:37
  But there needs to be AI like that word you used homogeneous
• 5:40
  that that that it can't be that it needs to be more inclusive,
• 5:43
  if you will. That's one of the beauties of
• 5:45
  our sport. That's the most inclusive sport
• 5:46
  there is, right? Me when?
• 5:48
  I knew was coaching in Division two, you, you were first or
• 5:50
  second in the national championship at that division or
• 5:54
  in champion Division Three and had the standard to go to
• 5:57
  Division 1. You could advance on that ended
• 6:01
  I think in 1989 or 90. And so, you know, frankly, so we
• 6:06
  had our own championship, but it was always really good to see
• 6:09
  the underdogs get to compete against the big schools.
• 6:12
  But it was really nothing to gain for the big schools other
• 6:15
  than get embarrassed maybe. Right.
• 6:17
  You know. That was.
• 6:18
  Maybe a a downside, but I mean a lot of changes going on.
• 6:21
  I don't know if there's a lot of answers.

  I know the house settlement is supposed to be finalized April
• 6:28
  the 6th. Oh, is that right?

  I think. A lot.
• 6:30
  Of teams or conferences are sanitized to make decisions
• 6:34
  around March the 1st and in a place like this we don't have a
• 6:40
  lot of you know ticket resources.
• 6:41
  We have a smaller read and we're not on TV a lot for basketball.
• 6:45
  Basketball gain three extra scholarships, but to reduce the
• 6:50
  squads on other other things would be, you know, maybe a cut
• 6:53
  of pollution revenue. For, you know, school.
• 6:56
  Of our size, but we we continue to get more and more students
• 7:01
  every year there just because of.
• 7:04
  Yeah, right. And.
• 7:06
  So if athletes get reduced and they make up for that emissions
• 7:10
  by regular. Students, right?
• 7:12
  Which already has a lot of own its own pressures as far as
• 7:15
  college attendance in general because of costs.
• 7:17
  Yeah, I mean. You.
• 7:19
  Know when the coaches started there, there were 1200 students
• 7:23
  and now we're up to 6300. Students.

  Wow. Yeah.
• 7:26
  But you know, there's there's. A cost involved, I mean, I think
• 7:34
  the discount rate for our store is pretty low compared to some
• 7:37
  other stores. So it.
• 7:39
  Helps keep revenue coming in. That's how we.

  Yeah, yeah, there's. All kinds of stuff from the era
• 7:51
  of the tryout. May be difficult.

  Yeah, Yeah, that's a good. Point, yeah.

  They may, may hurt. Walk on statistics, if you will.

  Yeah. Yeah, yeah, there's always.

  Been a lot of walk on. Mm hmm.

  Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

  Makes sense? As Division 3 athlete and

  Division Two former coach, that those divisions are going to
• 8:35
  really see a. Big.

  Trickle. Yeah, you would think right

  even. The mid majors are going to see
• 8:39
  a trickle down from the major conferences, so there's going to
• 8:43
  be a shifting lanes. Change is the is the only
• 8:45
  constant. We're definitely having change.

  Yeah, Change has. Been changed.

  Before when we had 48 requirements when those, Yeah,
• 8:56
  yeah, that's right. Yeah, here we are.

  We're still prospering. Yep, Yep, Yep.

  Right. Yeah, in.

  The recruitment. Process I think a lot.

  Of high school coaches and parents and even student
• 9:26
  athletes themselves don't know what's going on and they're
• 9:29
  treating the recruitment like everywhere else and we've got to
• 9:32
  do a lot of. Education, yeah, for sure.
• 9:34
  Well, there's a lot of coaches that don't know what's going on.
• 9:36
  So how in the world is a parent of a 1718 year old kid supposed
• 9:39
  to know what's going on? That's.
• 9:41
  Something today slide on Instagram about border of
• 9:46
  recruiting. It's like people on my own team.
• 9:48
  This is your football based thing people on my.
• 9:51
  Own team, yeah, people in. The transfer.
• 9:53
  Yeah, you know, and. It went.
• 9:56
  Down the thing, right? High school kids were #6 yeah,

  well. We'll all find a way, that's for
• 10:02
  sure, Scott. So next year we'll be publishing

  this as well. So we're going to be able to

  What's your best prediction of something that's going on?

  It could be high point related, keep it track related of course,
• 10:14
  but what's what's your best prediction of something that's
• 10:15
  going to happen you? Know for a majority of the
• 10:19
  programs are going to opt in and try to get that.

  Money we we that's going to be interesting that it.
• 10:24
  Was going to be tied to participation in the NCAA
• 10:27
  basketball. Teams.
• 10:27
  That's last I heard, yeah. And but right now, the last
• 10:30
  thing our our compliance director from Sanchez said was
• 10:34
  initially that's not going to be the.
• 10:35
  Case OK, so you may see a. Lot of the schools that require
• 10:39
  on you know, for enrollment driven, you know to keep their
• 10:45
  bottom line. In the black.

  Yeah, I. Think you'll see maybe they have
• 10:49
  another year that maybe figure that.

  Out right and maybe. Down the road, I think that
• 10:53
  would be the case because as we. Well, no money is.

  Really. Drives everything it does, it

  and you've done it and you've seen a lot of changes that we
• 11:06
  talked about. Freshmen couldn't compete,
• 11:07
  things like that. All of those things, by the way,
• 11:09
  women participate in sports. All of those things were
• 11:12
  supposed to ruin college athletics.

  And yet here we are stronger than ever.

  So, so we'll see how this impacts it as well.
