Latest / Duval Daily: A Jacksonville Jaguars Podcast / Anthony Campanile Interviewing with Cardinals?!
Transcript
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for being here Wednesday, January 21st, yes, I got a haircut and a beard trim.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to know which thing in the comment section below.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's not what we're talking about right now though.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony Campanile right after we did the video earlier talking about the Jaguar's hiring Matthew Arujo.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: a rujo who was the cornerbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins last couple years and before that was the assistant cornerbacks coach worked with Anthony Campani late in Miami when camp was there before he went over to Green Bay.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: we talked about, you know, is this a sign potentially that Anthony Campanela is staying on, right, you want to go get somebody who has experience with Campanela is familiar with this defensive system, all those things.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think that that was a reasonable question or assumption and said obviously things are very fluid, but right after that got announced or it hasn't been officially announced right by the jack wars, but it was reported by Matt Zinnitz of CBS sports that the jack wars are expected to hire.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Matthew Arugio.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: right after that was reported in rap report reported that Anthony Campanela is going to have a second and this is going to be an M person interview with the Arizona Cardinals.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even know at that time that Anthony Campanela had a first interview with the Arizona Cardinals for their head coaching job.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: So again, all this stuff, as I mentioned before, is extremely fluid.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: It is extremely fluid.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: So Campanile has now interviewed with the dolphins.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's not getting that job because Jeff Hathley got that job.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: He has interviewed with the Ravens.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know exactly what the Ravens plan is moving forward.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: You've heard reports of multiple guys with the Ravens getting second interviews, Rashad Weaver, Joe Brady, have not gotten a report yet that Anthony Campanile is getting a second interview with the Ravens, excuse me.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: But we do know now that he is getting a second interview in person with the ears on a cardinals for their head coaching job.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: So Ryan O'Haller and he made a pretty good point.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Covers the Jaguars for the Florida Times Union does a tremendous job.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of took the opposite approach of my line of thinking, and maybe my line of thinking was more wishful thinking than anything else, thinking that, you know, a Rujo coming in is maybe a sign that the Jaguar is no Anthony Campanile is probably going to be sticking around.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe, as Rhino Haller points out, that's not the case, maybe.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: as he reports or or not reports, but right now Haloran suggests, got to think Coach Cohen and the Jaguars are getting their ducks in a row.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: If Anthony Campany leg gets a head coaching post, they can slide the new cornerbacks coach higher, Matthew Harujo, into DC or Pascal coordinator role, and he's familiar with Camp's system.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm not saying that, or Haloran is definitely right about that line of thinking, don't
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: I have no clue if the Jaguars would want a Rujo to be their defensive coordinator or Pasuke and coordinator.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: He did interview with the Jets for their defensive coordinator position, recently, but
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if the jag wars are in that line of thinking.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: They could just be like, you know, this is a guy that we really respect as a cornerback slash secondary coach who fits in with the mold of coaches that we've been looking for around here.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's on our short list.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: We fired Ron Milis, we wanted to move on this guy regardless of if Camp was back or not.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of questions though, like if Anthony Campanile does move on, do they hire from within the same kind of tree within the same belief system, because even though Arrugio has worked with Campanile, Anthony Campanile's scheme that he deployed this year
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: what you saw with Vick Vangio in Miami.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: And the last couple years, obviously, Arrugio has been with Rashad Weaver.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: You had a combination of, with any company-laze defense, a combination of Jeff Halfley, who quite frankly, Arrugio has not worked with, Vick Vangio,
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Flores and a lot of the other hits from, I mean, he created his own defense.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: It was really, excuse me, really cool to see.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: What would happen if he leaves?
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Do they want to try to emulate that same style of defense?
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Do they want to try to iterate off of that?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: What do they want to do?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that this is a team that's going to say, stay stagnant year to year from a philosophical standpoint necessarily.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to try to evolve all the time.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what good teams do in the NFL.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen that with, you know, specifically the Rams, they've evolved a lot throughout Sean McVay's tenure.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: They went from a heavy outside zone team to more of a power rushing attack and obviously leveled up from Jared Goff to Matthew Stafford.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: They went and got them on to act.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: They're consistently evolving.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars are going to try to consistently evolve as well.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: All that to say, we just don't really know exactly what's happening right now.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is fluid.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know if Anthony Campanile is going to get the Cardinals job.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know if he's still in play for the Ravens job.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know if Grant Ydensky, who is going to be interviewing with the bill, or excuse me, well, he is going to be the bills that were requested to interview him for their head coaching job.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: He is going to be interviewed by the rounds on Friday, I believe, for a second time for their head coaching job.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot that's in play that's in flux for the Jaguars coaching staff and as I mentioned you just got to kind of take the information is as it is take it in as it comes, excuse me, and ride the wave, which of course it is a wave for Jaguars fans right now because you're getting
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: all sorts of changes.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Ron Myless out as secondary coach, it looks like a rujo is coming and as either a secondary coach or pass game coordinator or cornerbacks coach to complement who they already have.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: They had a defensive backscoach as well, who still employ assistant defensive backscoach.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: They lost their offensive line coach to Stanford or excuse me not offensive.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Assistant offensive line coach to Stanford, are they going to bring in another assistant offensive line coach probably?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: Are they gonna lose their offensive coordinator?
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Are they gonna lose their defensive coordinator?
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: If they lose Grant Yedinsky, you have a lot to replace there, because he's a brilliant, hardworking,
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: But at least you have the backbone of Liam Cohen being the top offensive mind in Jacksonville.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of the infrastructure potentially still there.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now Grant Yedinsky, if he goes and becomes a head coach, he could try to bring some guys with him and elevate them.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Which that could deplete your staff a little bit as well.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: And that could happen as well with Anthony Campanile.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know exactly how it's going to go down.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: You'd hate to see that, obviously, but these are hard-working individuals that deserve everything that comes to them because they're talented and hard-working, and they're getting what they deserve.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: They're getting the interviews that they deserve when it comes to you, Densky, and Campanila.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Tough little swallow for Jack's fans, but that's where we're at right now.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what ends up happening over the next few days.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: by the end of the weekend.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that everything will be wrapped up by that point, but that's kind of the time period I'm looking to see most of these jobs wrapped up from a head coaching standpoint.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then the domino starts to trickle over the next couple days after that, potentially.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe in a week we'll know pretty much exactly what's going on with the Jaguar coaching staff from top to bottom, hopefully.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'll have a good one.
