- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Morning yesterday, we got to see
- 0:31an old friend from Australia who happens to be in the country for
- 0:37she's going to a wedding and she was able to bring her fiance and
- 0:41you know, they're only here, they're passing through and
- 0:44they're only going to be here for, you know, overnight.
- 0:46So they were coming through here and stopped by the farm so that,
- 0:51you know, we could meet him and we could give her a hug and all
- 0:55of that good stuff. Well, but here's what's funny
- 0:57about this. So she wanted to see the
- 0:59chickens. And of course, you know, we go
- 1:02out, I give them a snack. But she had walked up to them
- 1:05because they were all under the tree.
- 1:07They know it's snack time. They kind of congregate at the
- 1:10appropriate time where they get their snacks because they are
- 1:14very much creatures of habit. And that's why I get along so
- 1:17well with them. And then she walked up to them
- 1:21and what I noticed and I observed was the fact that they
- 1:25immediately moved away from her. So if I walk up during that
- 1:28time, they immediately move towards me.
- 1:31Even if I'm I don't have food, whenever they see me, they move
- 1:34towards me because they're conditioned 10 and they know me.
- 1:37They know my face and little known facts about chickens.
- 1:40They can recognize a lot of people.
- 1:43They can. I think it's the numbers.
- 1:44They can recognize up to 25 people, and I believe it's
- 1:49probably more than that. But Needless to say, they
- 1:51definitely recognize and know people.
- 1:54And they didn't know her, so they were moving away because
- 1:57they didn't know if she was a threat.
- 2:00And I thought it's so funny how I learned from them over and
- 2:04over and over and over. New situation, I'm going to move
- 2:07away. Same situation, new person, I'm
- 2:10going to move away. New situation, new person, I'm
- 2:14not even coming out right. Like it's kind of like they're
- 2:18the wiring that we all have. We get very we have such
- 2:22trepidation in it. We just pull back and we and we
- 2:25stop ourselves and we go wait a minute.
- 2:27Maybe this isn't a good idea. Wait a minute.
- 2:29Maybe I shouldn't do this. Wait a minute and we put the
- 2:31brakes on. And I can say wholeheartedly
- 2:35that in my world, I know for a fact that I do that sometimes.
- 2:40I was recently approached by a company that wants me to have
- 2:45their bird feeder and do a shoot a video for them and put it up
- 2:50online. They want to use it as part of
- 2:52their marketing. And I am more than happy to, you
- 2:57know, do these things. But I have to tell you, the
- 3:00trepidation was high. It was very high when we were
- 3:04still working on details. But the cool part was like, OK,
- 3:07I got asked how exciting was that?
- 3:09But immediately my response was, whoa, I need to stop.
- 3:13And I'm not sad about that. I want to be really clear.
- 3:15I'm not sad that I'm like that because I think you have to be
- 3:18that way, especially in the world we live in now.
- 3:22You have to be cautious. You have to move with caution.
- 3:25And, and that's okay. But at the same time, I also
- 3:28have to move so I can't just sit on my butt and not, you know,
- 3:32work it. So I think what what's very
- 3:36important in this is to recognize we like to think we're
- 3:39so superior to animals, but we're really not.
- 3:42We do the same darn things and we have the same, you know, push
- 3:47back. We have the same thing show up.
- 3:49And I have to remind myself of that all the time that, you
- 3:53know, we like to think we're so much better, but are we really?
- 3:56Because no, we pull, we pull away.
- 3:59We get scared by situations. We look at things.
- 4:02We are no different in many, many ways.
- 4:05And from the perspective of just trying to like, realize and
- 4:10learn from my own actions and my own outcomes, I look at it and I
- 4:15say, you know, I can take anything.
- 4:18I can take in all the information.
- 4:20I can hit pause, but I don't have to feel like there's a
- 4:24threat. They actually feel like there's
- 4:27a threat. And I believe that sometimes I
- 4:29would actually feel like there's a threat, but I stop myself.
- 4:32I pull myself back because that's the right thing to do.
- 4:35So where does that show up for you guys?
- 4:38Because I know it does. It shows up for all of us.
- 4:41Are you the are you the person that acts like the chicken And
- 4:44just like, all right, I'm just going to run into all these
- 4:47situations or you just going to pause?
- 4:49You're going to look. Now, here's what's really funny.
- 4:51Amelia, who happens to be the head hen, she is one that will
- 4:56stand there. She rarely runs, but she will
- 4:59stop and she will look and she will assess, but she rarely runs
- 5:04while the other hens run. She assesses.
- 5:07Now, if it's a real threat, she runs like hell, and she'll run
- 5:10everybody else down. Let me be very clear.
- 5:12She can be like George Costanza, running over the people getting
- 5:15out of the house in the fire. But most of the time the threats
- 5:19are not real, and she knows that.
- 5:21She's very smart. So she pauses and she looks and
- 5:26then she decides. So I kind of want to be more
- 5:29like Amelia in these situations. I can assess, I don't have to
- 5:33run. But it was just an interesting
- 5:35observation to say, how do we show up in these?
- 5:38All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:40will see you tomorrow. Bye.
