- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. We have a new general manager
- 0:18Speaker 1: in Arizona coming up, what it means for Kyler, what
- 0:21Speaker 1: it means for the coaching surge, all of that this
- 0:24Speaker 1: hour on NFL Now on NFL Network. Thanks for being
- 0:27Speaker 1: here today from our news room in Los Angeles. My
- 0:30Speaker 1: name is andrews Ceciliato. There is a lot to unpack
- 0:35Speaker 1: from what went down last night. Let's get to the
- 0:38Speaker 1: highlight and get to the conversation. What we saw was
- 0:41Speaker 1: a team that made the playoffs with a losing record
- 0:44Speaker 1: get blown out last night. But it's so much more
- 0:47Speaker 1: than that, so much more than Dak Prescott and Tom
- 0:49Speaker 1: Brady and a primetime game to close out Super wild
- 0:52Speaker 1: Card weekend. For example, we saw Brady through a red
- 0:55Speaker 1: zone pick last night for the first time since he
- 0:58Speaker 1: became a Florida man. J Ron Curse had that. We
- 1:02Speaker 1: saw Dak Prescott put together a five touchdown performance. He
- 1:07Speaker 1: proved four he ran for this one. We saw Mike
- 1:11Speaker 1: McCarthy were a fantastic sweatshirt. And we also saw Brett
- 1:15Speaker 1: Maher do something that had never been done before. A
- 1:18Speaker 1: man missed four extra points. We can go back to
- 1:21Speaker 1: nineteen two. No one's ever missed four extra points. Is
- 1:25Speaker 1: it the end for Brady? I don't know, but all
- 1:28Speaker 1: kinds of hugs and dancing here for the Cowboys. Yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 1: I'll tell you. I mean you got you gotta just
- 1:37Speaker 1: really feel great about the whole week and leading in there.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I mean the confidence you had in there. We did
- 1:41Speaker 1: exactly we had to do it. And I love what
- 1:43Speaker 1: Jake k said at the beginning. There ain't nothing else say.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Let's just keep doing it. Let's just keep doing alright,
- 1:49Speaker 1: great job, we gotta wonderful playing ride home. But you
- 1:52Speaker 1: know when we touched down, we're on. Great job. So
- 1:56Speaker 1: proud of you. Outstanding, all right, So let's enjoya's enjoya's
- 2:00Speaker 1: playing ride, to celebrate one another, love one another. Outstanding.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Let's better Tom. Tom Brady rather has been great forever.
- 2:12Speaker 1: He's forty five years old. Is gonna turn forty six
- 2:15Speaker 1: next August? Will that be at training camp for the
- 2:18Speaker 1: Bucket Ears or the Raiders, or the Niners or the
- 2:21Speaker 1: Titans or the Dolphins? Or will it after kissing Mom
- 2:26Speaker 1: and Dad right here walking up the tunnel last night?
- 2:29Speaker 1: Will it be on the couch. What is your process
- 2:34Speaker 1: from here when you start to think about what you
- 2:35Speaker 1: want to do next is obviously it's gonna be huge speculations.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna go home and get a good night's sleep
- 2:40Speaker 1: as good as I can tonight, and I'm tablet or
- 2:45Speaker 1: I mean, when you want to take this stuff out,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I'm not. You know, this has been a lot of
- 2:50Speaker 1: focus on, you know, this game. So yeah, let's just
- 2:55Speaker 1: be one day at the time. Truly, I just want
- 2:56Speaker 1: to say thank you guys for everything that year. I
- 2:58Speaker 1: really appreciate all your effort, and I know it's hard
- 3:00Speaker 1: for you guys too. It's hard for us players to
- 3:02Speaker 1: make it through, and you guys got a tough job,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and I appreciate all that you guys do to cover
- 3:07Speaker 1: us and everyone who watches and the big fan of
- 3:09Speaker 1: the sport. We're very grateful for everyone's support, and you know, hopefully,
- 3:13Speaker 1: um you know, I love this organization. It's a great
- 3:16Speaker 1: place to be. And thank you everybody for welcome to me,
- 3:20Speaker 1: all your regulars, and just very grateful for the respect.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And I hope I gave the same thing back to
- 3:27Speaker 1: you guys, so thank you very much. Appreciated that kind
- 3:31Speaker 1: of sort of sounded like a goodbye at least Tampa.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Mark Ross, Jane Slater, Jane, you were there, you still
- 3:41Speaker 1: are there. How did you read that? Look? It's hard
- 3:45Speaker 1: to say, Andrew. Obviously, it was not the game that
- 3:47Speaker 1: he had expected to have. Keith had issues along his
- 3:50Speaker 1: offensive line. A lot of his offensive weapons weren't necessarily clicking.
- 3:54Speaker 1: He had tons of pressure in his face after that one,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and last night he said it he wasn't going to
- 3:59Speaker 1: make a decision. He needed a good night's rest. He
- 4:01Speaker 1: still needs to meet with the team, and I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: it would be premature after a loss like that to
- 4:06Speaker 1: make any sort of decision about one's future. I will
- 4:09Speaker 1: tell you that I talked to some folks here. A
- 4:11Speaker 1: number of players have been in the locker room cleaning
- 4:13Speaker 1: out their lockers beginning those exit interviews with the staff.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Tom Brady's locker remains untouched. You referenced his parents. I
- 4:21Speaker 1: was going down to the tunnel about it the six
- 4:23Speaker 1: and a half mark, as a lot of US reporters do,
- 4:25Speaker 1: were allowed on the field about the two minute mark,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and I thought it was interesting that his mom and
- 4:29Speaker 1: dad were there and some of his family members, and
- 4:31Speaker 1: I reached out to Sarah Walsh, and of course Mike
- 4:33Speaker 1: Gi already covered Tom Brady extensively, and I said, is
- 4:35Speaker 1: that usual? And I was told it wasn't. So I
- 4:38Speaker 1: don't know if that was a goodbye or what it was,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but you certainly saw it on his face. This season.
- 4:43Speaker 1: It was a tough season to come back. It was
- 4:46Speaker 1: probably tough not having a guy like Rob Gronkowski a
- 4:48Speaker 1: very reliable target for you in the receiving game. So
- 4:51Speaker 1: we'll see if him coming back to Tampa is reliant
- 4:54Speaker 1: on that as we've heard rumblings about Rob Gronkowski, but
- 4:57Speaker 1: I think a lot of the stuff that happened on
- 4:58Speaker 1: the field and off the field is gonna weigh heavily
- 5:00Speaker 1: on what he does as it relates to coming back
- 5:02Speaker 1: to Tampa. No question, Danny, how he feels last night
- 5:06Speaker 1: next week would be probably be different than how he
- 5:08Speaker 1: feels a couple of weeks from now when he starts
- 5:10Speaker 1: missing in again like he did last year. And when
- 5:13Speaker 1: you're Tom Brady, you have options, and his options next
- 5:16Speaker 1: year if he does go to free agency, is to
- 5:18Speaker 1: choose a situation that is optimal for him. He's not
- 5:21Speaker 1: going to go to a losing team. And losing organization.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Try to pick that franchise that has the most talent
- 5:27Speaker 1: and the best foundation around him. If you're a team,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you just need one team, if you're Tom Brady, to
- 5:32Speaker 1: say we're gonna take a chance on you. I don't
- 5:34Speaker 1: think it will be a whole lot of teams to
- 5:35Speaker 1: say this is what we want to do. But if
- 5:38Speaker 1: you just need one. But just looking at Tom brady
- 5:40Speaker 1: skill set, if you're a team, when you watch him,
- 5:43Speaker 1: he is the goat, undoubtedly, But when you get older
- 5:46Speaker 1: and older quarterbacks, father time is undefeated. You just can't
- 5:50Speaker 1: consistently string together high level play like you once did
- 5:54Speaker 1: in your prime. You saw a big highlight play last
- 5:56Speaker 1: night for Brady, but for the most of the game
- 5:59Speaker 1: he struggled, painfully struggled. The second thing is, in Brady's
- 6:02Speaker 1: prime he raised the level of everybody to else on
- 6:05Speaker 1: the team, in the organization, no matter who played with him.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But then when you start making excuses, when you're putting
- 6:11Speaker 1: the ifs about Brady or great quarterbacks, if you give
- 6:14Speaker 1: him a running game, if you give him the your line,
- 6:17Speaker 1: if you have all these things, that's really when it's
- 6:19Speaker 1: time to say, you know what, this might not be
- 6:22Speaker 1: the right guy. And can he get out there and
- 6:24Speaker 1: play for a team next year and sort of look
- 6:26Speaker 1: like he did this year? Yes? Can he play at
- 6:28Speaker 1: that Super Bowl level again? I just don't see that
- 6:31Speaker 1: coming back. Never seen a great player come back to
- 6:33Speaker 1: that form, and especially in light of year old is
- 6:37Speaker 1: the average of the playoff quarterbacks now him not being
- 6:40Speaker 1: able to compete with that that sort of level of
- 6:42Speaker 1: high level caliber player right now. So could Tom Brady
- 6:46Speaker 1: play for one team? Definitely? Can he get back to
- 6:48Speaker 1: where he was to compete with that level? I just
- 6:50Speaker 1: don't see that happening. Andrew, Yeah, And the run game
- 6:52Speaker 1: is huge. That was the worst run game that the
- 6:55Speaker 1: Bucks have ever had in their fifty or whatever it
- 6:57Speaker 1: is years, and that plays a factor. I mean it
- 6:59Speaker 1: looks so much. So he had to throw the ball
- 7:01Speaker 1: sixty six times last night. Now they fell behind big early,
- 7:05Speaker 1: gonna throw the ball a lot. There's not a lot
- 7:07Speaker 1: of success on this list here when you're throwing the
- 7:09Speaker 1: ball sixty times other than Tom Brady winning that Super
- 7:12Speaker 1: Bowl there with sixty two attends. So whatever he's doing
- 7:16Speaker 1: today thinking about it, his arm is probably sore well
- 7:21Speaker 1: thinking about it. Jane Slater Mark Ross, thank you, James,
- 7:24Speaker 1: stay right there. Next up, not for Tom Brady. He's
- 7:28Speaker 1: not going back to Santa Clara. The Cowboys are heading
- 7:31Speaker 1: there for another chapter in one of the most storied
- 7:35Speaker 1: postseason rivalries in NFL history. Knowing the team that they have,
- 7:42Speaker 1: the offense that they have, they're on fire. I don't know,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I mean wind streak, I guess with the longest in
- 7:47Speaker 1: the league right now, um so just uh yeah, it
- 7:50Speaker 1: would be important for us to start fast, get on
- 7:51Speaker 1: top of them. I know the past rushers they've got,
- 7:54Speaker 1: but once again, I'm confident in the guys that I've
- 7:56Speaker 1: got this group, that we have um and what we're
- 7:59Speaker 1: capable of doing. So it's gonna be important for us
- 8:01Speaker 1: to have a great week of preparation, and I just
- 8:02Speaker 1: get ready for it. It's gonna be the ninth time
- 8:06Speaker 1: Baldi's in here now, ninth time these two great franchises
- 8:10Speaker 1: meet in the postseason. And after watching what Dad did,
- 8:14Speaker 1: watching that defense, what they did last night, Jane, I'd
- 8:17Speaker 1: have to think their confidence is sky high. Listen, I
- 8:21Speaker 1: grew up in Dallas in the nineties and I remember
- 8:23Speaker 1: these matchups. Well. My dad no more excited than most
- 8:26Speaker 1: that these two are going to see each other here
- 8:28Speaker 1: in the postseason, and you ask about what the Cowboys
- 8:31Speaker 1: are saying about all this will look to beat the
- 8:33Speaker 1: best to be the best. Rather, you've got to beat
- 8:35Speaker 1: the best. And it was Ceedee Lamb who told me
- 8:37Speaker 1: post game when I asked him what he wanted people
- 8:39Speaker 1: to know about them ahead of heading to the forty
- 8:41Speaker 1: nine ers, he said, they're ready. They just got to
- 8:43Speaker 1: keep it simple. I think what they really needed though,
- 8:46Speaker 1: when you look at some of their games as of late.
- 8:48Speaker 1: They haven't lost back to back games, but the way
- 8:51Speaker 1: they were winning in recent weeks didn't give you a
- 8:53Speaker 1: lot of confidence. The way they were winning games against
- 8:56Speaker 1: backup quarterbacks gave you a lot of pause. But the
- 8:59Speaker 1: way they were able to put that game together last night,
- 9:01Speaker 1: that dominant performance from Dak Prescott, his decision making of
- 9:05Speaker 1: protection that he had. Even defensively, we saw, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: Dan Quinn to borrow a term from Seattle he cooked.
- 9:12Speaker 1: We saw him going with four safeties back there, and
- 9:14Speaker 1: so they got creative. They got Xavier Roads back there
- 9:17Speaker 1: at cornerback. I don't know about you, Brian Bollinger, it
- 9:20Speaker 1: certainly felt like he was a better option than anything
- 9:22Speaker 1: they had the Sea season, and I dare say he
- 9:25Speaker 1: was just as good as a guy like Anthony Brown.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Jordan Lewis even better possibly. So I think they feel
- 9:30Speaker 1: good about themselves because of the way that they won,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and they're excited about the forty n But they truly
- 9:35Speaker 1: are the best. So if you are going to be
- 9:37Speaker 1: the best, you've definitely got to beat him on the road. Well,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I mean the forty one eleven in a row. It's
- 9:43Speaker 1: not like they're invincible though. Let mean Seattle moving the
- 9:45Speaker 1: ball against him, and we saw the Raiders late in
- 9:47Speaker 1: the season move the ball against him. We got to
- 9:48Speaker 1: execute one thing, I'll say, Jane, you know, if you
- 9:51Speaker 1: want to make any comparison to that first round knockout
- 9:54Speaker 1: that they had a bench forty Niners down in Dallas
- 9:57Speaker 1: a year ago, was the offensive line is much better.
- 10:00Speaker 1: They protected Dak tremendous last night be to Bay got
- 10:03Speaker 1: an early sacked, otherwise he was early touched um And
- 10:07Speaker 1: I think you know right now, Tyrod Smith at right
- 10:09Speaker 1: tackle next to Zac is a really good right side.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Whatever you doing the left side, whether it's Jason Peters
- 10:14Speaker 1: Tyler Smith, getting out of Tyler the outs back at
- 10:16Speaker 1: center were really made a difference. If they protect Dak
- 10:21Speaker 1: anything like they did last night, he's gonna have options.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And whether it's Dalton Schultz or the tight ends or
- 10:26Speaker 1: c d or Michael Gallo, I mean, he's gonna have options.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And if you have options, there's a lot of easer
- 10:32Speaker 1: to move the ball. And the other thing is they're
- 10:35Speaker 1: just not committing the type of penalties and the number
- 10:38Speaker 1: of penalties that they did in that playoff loss a
- 10:41Speaker 1: year ago. And if they keep the penalties down, the
- 10:43Speaker 1: negative plays down we've seen with this offensive capable. Yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 1: and say for the extra points, they overall played a
- 10:49Speaker 1: played a clean game. So we're not talking as we
- 10:51Speaker 1: did last year when they lost to the forty Niners
- 10:53Speaker 1: about clock management down the stretch, about spiking the football
- 10:56Speaker 1: and play calls and the clock running down. Um. But
- 10:59Speaker 1: we are now coming full circle and coming back to
- 11:01Speaker 1: that opponent they lost to the forty Niners. Thank you,
- 11:05Speaker 1: Baldy and thank you Jane. How about this from Dez
- 11:09Speaker 1: Bryant last night. This is a fun follow on game
- 11:12Speaker 1: day especially he said, I'm a huge brock Purty fan,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but not next week. The Niners also Omar Ruiz huge
- 11:23Speaker 1: brock Purty fans and people were waiting for him to
- 11:26Speaker 1: come back to earth last week. Maybe had some moments
- 11:28Speaker 1: in the first half, but big picture not didn't happen. Yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 1: certainly not worried about brock Purtty and his performance, whether
- 11:34Speaker 1: he'll show up on Sunday. Kyle Shanahan saying it wasn't nerves,
- 11:37Speaker 1: perhaps attributing to some of those errant throws early in
- 11:40Speaker 1: the game for Brock pretty more the excitement. As much
- 11:42Speaker 1: as we've talked about brock Purty and his weapons there
- 11:45Speaker 1: with Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel, one thing I think
- 11:48Speaker 1: we haven't talked enough about for this forty Niners team
- 11:51Speaker 1: is how connected they are. They've adopted this slogan I
- 11:54Speaker 1: got your back, I g y B and we saw
- 11:58Speaker 1: that fully on display in the third quarter when Deebo
- 12:01Speaker 1: Samuel converged that big third and seven pass, get some
- 12:04Speaker 1: yards after the cat and then Jonathan Abram yanks his
- 12:07Speaker 1: leg fired up the entire sideline, the entire roster. As
- 12:11Speaker 1: Nick Bosa said, why would you want to poke the bear?
- 12:14Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel certainly made them pay after that. They converted
- 12:18Speaker 1: on that drive with a brock pretty rushing touchdown. A
- 12:20Speaker 1: couple of drives later, Deebo Samuel gets them for that
- 12:23Speaker 1: seventy four yard touchdown the catch and run. It's why
- 12:27Speaker 1: that team in the early part of Kyle Shanahan's tenure there,
- 12:31Speaker 1: when they were losing a bunch of games, they stayed together.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And it's why you can see a team adopting its
- 12:36Speaker 1: third different starting quarterback and still having that success getting
- 12:40Speaker 1: a new running back like Christian McCaffrey. Granted, they are talented,
- 12:44Speaker 1: talented players, but it's that mentality that I Got your
- 12:46Speaker 1: back mentality we saw on display Sunday that has certainly
- 12:49Speaker 1: carried them to a point here this so far in
- 12:51Speaker 1: the postseason, and after the Jonathan Abrams thing twisting Debo's leg,
- 12:54Speaker 1: the Niners, to your point, went on a twenty five
- 12:56Speaker 1: to nothing run and blew them out of the building.
- 12:58Speaker 1: All right, let's get to Damiko Ryan Stayshaun Gibson on
- 13:00Speaker 1: the show last week said it would be a travesty
- 13:03Speaker 1: if the Niners defensive coordinate is not a head coach
- 13:06Speaker 1: next year. How are they dealing with the phone ringing
- 13:08Speaker 1: for interviews? Yeah, that's the most defensive players you talked
- 13:11Speaker 1: to in the forty Niners will tell you that that
- 13:13Speaker 1: there is nothing more Damiko Ryan's can do at this
- 13:16Speaker 1: point architect architect of this number one ranked defense, and
- 13:19Speaker 1: he'll be busy this week. Kyle Shanahan says they've set
- 13:22Speaker 1: a side time for him to interview on Thursday and Friday.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Of course, four teams have reached out for Damiko Ryan's
- 13:30Speaker 1: to be interviewed for their head coaching positions, and this
- 13:33Speaker 1: is something, fortunately for the forty Niners, are good problems
- 13:36Speaker 1: they have that they've gone through before with Robert sala
- 13:39Speaker 1: and even Kyle Shanahan relating back to his time going
- 13:41Speaker 1: on the Super Bowl run with the Falcons interviewing for
- 13:44Speaker 1: jobs that obviously he eventually landed with the forty Niners.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Salah and Shanahan did have bys though in those years,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but the forty Niners do look back to last year
- 13:54Speaker 1: with Mike McDaniel, who interviewed with the Dolphins while they
- 13:57Speaker 1: were still playing in the postseason, so something they do
- 13:59Speaker 1: have experience with. Kyle Shanahan said they watch both Buccaneers
- 14:03Speaker 1: and Cowboys film as soon as the game ended between
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Vikings and the Giants, knowing that they'd play one
- 14:09Speaker 1: of those two. So by the time they got to
- 14:10Speaker 1: kick off in terms of preparation last night, they felt
- 14:13Speaker 1: ready to go as soon as the conclusion of that
- 14:15Speaker 1: game ended last night to continue a normal week preparing
- 14:18Speaker 1: for the Cowboys on Sunday. And as you know, Kyle
- 14:20Speaker 1: has gone through this himself. He was offensive coordinator for
- 14:24Speaker 1: the Falcons while knowing he's already the head coach of
- 14:27Speaker 1: the forty Niners on my reis thank you, sir. Speaking
- 14:29Speaker 1: of the whole coaching thing, the arison, our Cardinals are
- 14:32Speaker 1: still looking for a new head coach, but they do
- 14:35Speaker 1: have a new general manager. It's that man on the right,
- 14:38Speaker 1: Monty Austin Ford, who posed for the cameras with owner
- 14:42Speaker 1: Michael Bidwell today in Arizona and was on the podium
- 14:45Speaker 1: as well. We're gonna institute a thorough and exhaustive scouting process.
- 14:52Speaker 1: We are going to turn over every stone to find
- 14:54Speaker 1: the right players for this team. We're not just collecting talent.
- 14:59Speaker 1: We're gonna build a team. We're gonna look for the
- 15:03Speaker 1: right type of players. He go will not be tolerated,
- 15:06Speaker 1: tolerated in this organization. We are gonna look, we are
- 15:09Speaker 1: going to look for focused, driven and people that are
- 15:13Speaker 1: willing to put the team first at every step of
- 15:16Speaker 1: the way. Interesting, Tom Pella Sera, Mike Garrel folo, ego
- 15:22Speaker 1: will not be tolerated. Tom as they look for a
- 15:25Speaker 1: new head coach, Well, Andrew and it's this gonna be
- 15:30Speaker 1: an interesting search for a new head coach, one that
- 15:32Speaker 1: Michael Bidwell at various points in that press current said
- 15:35Speaker 1: will be resolved in a matter of days, but also
- 15:38Speaker 1: that they intend to cast a wide net for their
- 15:40Speaker 1: next head coach. What we know as of now, they
- 15:43Speaker 1: have already interviewed their defense coordinator, Advanced Joseph for the job.
- 15:46Speaker 1: They do also have slips out for Damiko Ryan's as
- 15:49Speaker 1: well as Brian Flores for head coaching interviews. Many Asta
- 15:52Speaker 1: fort literally got there this morning into the building, so
- 15:55Speaker 1: expect those other interview slips to be going out soon. Yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 1: I'm just can I we're SUPs to talk about the
- 16:01Speaker 1: head coaching part. But I want to go off script.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Bring Andrew back up because Andrew tweeted that quote there
- 16:06Speaker 1: about ego will not be tolerated. I don't think he
- 16:08Speaker 1: was speaking about anybody in particular Marias and for but
- 16:11Speaker 1: Twitter does what Twitter did, what Twitter does, and the
- 16:14Speaker 1: next thing, you know, we're talking about Kyler Murray here, right.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I just think he was laying out all his you know,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I mean I would say that the owner, Michael bid
- 16:23Speaker 1: Will has said, and he said this after firing Cliff
- 16:26Speaker 1: Kingsbury and after announcing Steve Kid's not gonna be there anymore,
- 16:29Speaker 1: that accountability is a big deal to him. Accountability ego,
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, you know, subtlety. Obviously that wasn't part of it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: He was laying out his vision, no ego, right, and
- 16:41Speaker 1: he's uh I at press conference, general manager press conference,
- 16:45Speaker 1: bingo there when he said he's gonna turn over every stone.
- 16:47Speaker 1: So Marias and Fork just laying it all out there.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I don't think he's necessarily got a target on any
- 16:53Speaker 1: in particular player, But we'll see. If if that's the
- 16:56Speaker 1: way it goes, and that's the way that they want
- 16:58Speaker 1: to do things now in Arizona, then maybe some folks
- 16:59Speaker 1: are gonna have to change some things. We shall see. Andrew,
- 17:02Speaker 1: they're changing some things in l A with the Chargers,
- 17:06Speaker 1: Tom but it doesn't look like it's the head coach.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It's not. Andrew Brandon Staley met this morning with a
- 17:13Speaker 1: couple of his assistants, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and Shane Day,
- 17:17Speaker 1: who is their quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator. They
- 17:19Speaker 1: are both out. So a major overhaul on the offensive
- 17:23Speaker 1: side of the ball and creating an OC vacancy that's
- 17:26Speaker 1: gonna be as coveted as any in the NFL. When
- 17:28Speaker 1: you're talking about working with a young quarterback like Justin Herbert,
- 17:32Speaker 1: totally expect that they're going to be candidates lying up
- 17:34Speaker 1: for this job. As for Brandon Staley, he is nineteen
- 17:37Speaker 1: and fifteen over two seasons, went to the playoffs this
- 17:40Speaker 1: year despite injuries everywhere to basically all of his key players.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Ownership sees that players who have come out and strongly
- 17:47Speaker 1: supported him publicly certainly see that last year made a
- 17:51Speaker 1: change with his special teams coordinator, went from the worst
- 17:53Speaker 1: in the league the top ten with Ryan Ficken. He's
- 17:55Speaker 1: hoping for a similar type of a revival now on
- 17:58Speaker 1: the offensive side of the ball, and I would anticipate
- 18:00Speaker 1: this scheme is gonna look a lot different three as well.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And Okay, so forget about the whole show on Payton
- 18:05Speaker 1: to the Chargers thing, but we could tom have a
- 18:07Speaker 1: Sean Payton with the Broncos thing. It's a thing today
- 18:12Speaker 1: Andrew not far from l A too, where the Broncos
- 18:15Speaker 1: will be meeting with Sean Payton about their head coaching job.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh, along with Dan Quinn really
- 18:21Speaker 1: came in atop the list for the Broncos new ownership group. Well,
- 18:25Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh formed the team and then also formed the
- 18:27Speaker 1: University of Michigan yesterday that he is going to remain
- 18:30Speaker 1: at his alma mater, so Peyton continues to come into
- 18:34Speaker 1: focus depending upon how this interview goes. Now, Payton other
- 18:38Speaker 1: teams that are interested in him as well, they would
- 18:40Speaker 1: need to work out the Broncos would a trade for
- 18:42Speaker 1: Sean Pagne because he's still under contract with New Orleans.
- 18:45Speaker 1: But this is certainly coming to a head this week,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and it should be mentioned the Broncos have done multiple
- 18:51Speaker 1: interviews with external minority candidates for the position, so under
- 18:54Speaker 1: the Roooney rule they are permitted now to hire anyone
- 18:57Speaker 1: they want like. Meanwhile, with the Cardinals filling their GM vacancy,
- 19:01Speaker 1: we're now focusing on the Titans, who are wrapping up
- 19:04Speaker 1: their first round of general manager interviews and transitioning to
- 19:08Speaker 1: their second round. Among those who will be receiving h
- 19:12Speaker 1: second interviews with the Tennessee Titans for that GM spot
- 19:15Speaker 1: Ryan Cowden, who is their de facto GM after John
- 19:18Speaker 1: Robinson was let go during the season and now Austin
- 19:21Speaker 1: Fort is out there in Arizona. Ian Cunningham from the
- 19:25Speaker 1: Bears got a second interview. He is on a rapid
- 19:28Speaker 1: rise right now, as is Ran Carthon with the forty
- 19:32Speaker 1: Niners and Malik Boyd from the Bills. He had his
- 19:35Speaker 1: first interview earlier today TB D Weather. He'll be included
- 19:38Speaker 1: in the second group. So again, Ryan Cowden, Ran Carthon
- 19:42Speaker 1: and Ian Cunningham looking like uh the uh finalists there
- 19:46Speaker 1: for this Tennessee Titans as of right now, all right,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and new Cardinals, GM, Monteas and Fort just came from
- 19:52Speaker 1: the Tennessee type as we bring it back full circle,
- 19:55Speaker 1: Thank you guys. Cook puts it down, Patterson's kicks up.
- 20:05Speaker 1: The field goal is good, good good. The jaguarfe ever wanted,
- 20:13Speaker 1: the jaguarfe have wanted. They have come back from twenty
- 20:17Speaker 1: seven nothing to win the game and move on. Hell
- 20:23Speaker 1: good is that move on to Kansas City? It is good. Yes,
- 20:27Speaker 1: keep screaming. It was one of those nights. Last Saturday
- 20:31Speaker 1: Camp Wolfe, James Palmer, Jeff chide with me as we
- 20:33Speaker 1: discuss the first game now of Divisional weekend at Arrowhead Cam.
- 20:38Speaker 1: It struck me both Week eighteen and after the first
- 20:42Speaker 1: half on Saturday Night that Doug Peterson wanted Trevor Lawrence
- 20:46Speaker 1: to calm down. Now that they've had that moment right
- 20:49Speaker 1: where they have rallied in one again, why are they
- 20:52Speaker 1: confident going into this one? Yeah, Andrew. Trevor Lawrence told
- 20:56Speaker 1: me after the game that this new era of Jaguars
- 20:58Speaker 1: football means they're never out of the fight. He said,
- 21:01Speaker 1: it doesn't matter we play, when we play, where we play.
- 21:04Speaker 1: We know we always have a shot. And you think
- 21:07Speaker 1: after those four first half interceptions, maybe that shakes the
- 21:10Speaker 1: team up. No, they stayed cool, just like their quarterback.
- 21:13Speaker 1: And the reality is that's been the story of this
- 21:16Speaker 1: Jaguars team really over the second half of the season.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Five straight home games they've had where they've come back
- 21:23Speaker 1: from multiple possessions down to end up winning that game.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And Marvin Jones told me in the locker room, if
- 21:28Speaker 1: anybody's the comeback kids, it's us. And look, they know
- 21:32Speaker 1: they're coming into Kansas City, a rowdy environment with Patrick
- 21:35Speaker 1: Mahomes the presumptive m v P. They know they're gonna
- 21:38Speaker 1: be huge underdogs, but they have the mentality of their
- 21:40Speaker 1: not going to be afraid because they're built in the
- 21:42Speaker 1: model of their head coach, Doug Peterson, who talks to
- 21:45Speaker 1: them costly about faith, about belief, about handling the pressure
- 21:49Speaker 1: of the situation and really, you know, talk to dudes
- 21:52Speaker 1: in the locker room and they mentioned with a smile
- 21:54Speaker 1: just how much Peterson has changed this organization. And this week,
- 21:58Speaker 1: as they look ahead to the Chiefs, the one game
- 22:00Speaker 1: plan element they have focused on is keeping the pressure
- 22:03Speaker 1: off of Trevor Lawrence. He got sacked five times when
- 22:06Speaker 1: they played in the middle of November. They mentioned they
- 22:08Speaker 1: got to really contain Chris Jones, but they believe they
- 22:11Speaker 1: do that they have a chance to pull the upset
- 22:13Speaker 1: on Saturday. OK. Can you mentioned Doug Peterson. I I
- 22:17Speaker 1: know that Trevor Lawrence and we saw the poise that
- 22:19Speaker 1: he was able to have after the four interceptions in
- 22:21Speaker 1: the first half. It resonated with Patrick Mahomes about an
- 22:23Speaker 1: hour ago said he really envied the way that Trevor
- 22:26Speaker 1: Lawrence was able to keep his composure. But it really
- 22:28Speaker 1: goes from Doug Peterson. And Andy Reid knows him so
- 22:31Speaker 1: well from obviously coaching him as a player and coaching
- 22:33Speaker 1: alongside of him, and he believes he's the coach of
- 22:36Speaker 1: the Year essentially in the way he's resurrected that program.
- 22:39Speaker 1: But I look at it the environment that can mention
- 22:41Speaker 1: they're going into at Arrowhead, and I've covered playoff games
- 22:45Speaker 1: there with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid running that team
- 22:47Speaker 1: a number of times, and you see teams panic. It's
- 22:50Speaker 1: the Texans, It's the Titans. It's happened repeatedly, Andrew, with
- 22:53Speaker 1: teams when they come in they feel like they have
- 22:55Speaker 1: to get points, they feel like they have to press.
- 22:57Speaker 1: What we have seen from Doug Peterson in his play
- 23:00Speaker 1: calling and the way this offense has run, we have
- 23:04Speaker 1: every understanding to believe, Andrew that they're not going to
- 23:07Speaker 1: press in that situation. We'll find out on Saturday. But
- 23:11Speaker 1: this is a team that looks like they're prepared not
- 23:13Speaker 1: to be overwhelmed by the situation, specifically because of Doug
- 23:17Speaker 1: Peters in their heads. And this is also a team
- 23:19Speaker 1: in the Chiefs here that is not invincible at home.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Jeff Kid and a team that I know probably gave
- 23:27Speaker 1: some of its fans some angst down the stretcher when
- 23:30Speaker 1: the Texans played him close, when the Broncos at least
- 23:32Speaker 1: the first time played them close. Any concern there at all, Well,
- 23:38Speaker 1: they're trying to use it as a positive. Andrew, they
- 23:40Speaker 1: see those last eight games of the season where they
- 23:43Speaker 1: had five one score games, as being great experience for
- 23:46Speaker 1: a lot of these young players. Patrick Mahomes was asked
- 23:48Speaker 1: about that. He said, it's really about these guys understand
- 23:52Speaker 1: that when you get into a playoff environment, you're going
- 23:54Speaker 1: to be in a lot of close games. You're you're
- 23:56Speaker 1: playing good teams and margin for errors raged within. And
- 23:59Speaker 1: he likes the fact that he's seen some of these
- 24:02Speaker 1: younger players step up in big moments, both on the
- 24:04Speaker 1: offensive i on the defensive side. Yeah, it's not fun
- 24:08Speaker 1: for the fans, but this stuff doesn't matter, and they
- 24:10Speaker 1: have a lot of respect for the Jaguars for the
- 24:12Speaker 1: same reasons that Cam and James just mentioned that this
- 24:15Speaker 1: team is a really tough team. They beat them once
- 24:17Speaker 1: already by ten points. They think it could be even
- 24:20Speaker 1: closer this time around. Jeff, you mentioned the growth specifically
- 24:24Speaker 1: of the young players. I look at that secondary, right,
- 24:26Speaker 1: that's one we've really had our eye on throughout the
- 24:28Speaker 1: course of this season. You look away defensively, they played
- 24:31Speaker 1: down these last five games. Eight turnovers forced in the
- 24:34Speaker 1: last five games. The most number of passing yards over
- 24:36Speaker 1: the last five games they've given up is two and fourteen.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And that group really felt like they were hitting their
- 24:41Speaker 1: stride in December when they cannot just have trust in
- 24:44Speaker 1: themselves but started trusting the other players around him. It's
- 24:47Speaker 1: a lot of new pieces. Justin Reid's kind of the
- 24:49Speaker 1: veteran back there, but he comes over and it's a
- 24:51Speaker 1: new system for him as well. So that whole group
- 24:53Speaker 1: finding their groove down the stretch is something that has
- 24:56Speaker 1: stood out to Steve Spagnol was something that stood out
- 24:58Speaker 1: to Andy Reid as well, who just about an hour
- 25:00Speaker 1: ago said, what I've learned most about that group is
- 25:02Speaker 1: their angles are better in terms of what they're taking
- 25:05Speaker 1: andrew later in the season, their hands are on football's
- 25:08Speaker 1: They're understanding the speed of the game. Now those young
- 25:11Speaker 1: players have to understand that the speed of the game
- 25:13Speaker 1: takes another step in the postseason. That's what they need
- 25:17Speaker 1: from their young secondary exactly with Patrick Mahomes Andy Reid
- 25:21Speaker 1: leading this team back to the postseason a calm, veteran presence.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Thank you Camp, Thank you James, Thank you team. I
- 25:32Speaker 1: know a lot of you are thinking when I went
- 25:34Speaker 1: to break before we eat power rankings in the playoffs. Yes,
- 25:37Speaker 1: hand Zeus never sleeps. Eddie has the forty Niners and
- 25:40Speaker 1: the brand new. Find them at nfl dot com slash
- 25:42Speaker 1: power Rankings. The brand new numbers up the Niners first,
- 25:46Speaker 1: the Chief second, Dan hands Zeus. The old Zeuser himself
- 25:49Speaker 1: is here as he always is. High there Dan. On Tuesday,
- 25:53Speaker 1: the Niners held on to number one. I mean, could
- 25:56Speaker 1: anything really have happened other than losing to take them
- 25:59Speaker 1: out of that spot? It wins a win, Yeah, and
- 26:01Speaker 1: certainly when the teams I had behind them, the Bills
- 26:04Speaker 1: and the Bengals didn't overwhelmed in Super wild Card weekends.
- 26:07Speaker 1: So but yeah, it's easy. In fact, I'm feeling really good.
- 26:10Speaker 1: You know what. I wasn't feeling great when it was
- 26:12Speaker 1: seventeen sixteen Seattle at the half, but that twenty five
- 26:15Speaker 1: point run really reaffirmed why this team has captured a
- 26:19Speaker 1: lot of people's imagination is potentially the best team in football.
- 26:23Speaker 1: So I'm feeling good about rolling with the Niners the top.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I asked that question with a purpose because the Chiefs
- 26:29Speaker 1: were off, they moved up to to number two and
- 26:32Speaker 1: the Bills fell one. Why isn't it just feel like
- 26:38Speaker 1: they're just a little bit off right now? They're not
- 26:40Speaker 1: fully calibrated. That the sloppiness which you can get away
- 26:44Speaker 1: with the type of game you played against New England
- 26:47Speaker 1: and Week eight team when you get two monster special
- 26:49Speaker 1: teams plays. You can get away with the game you
- 26:51Speaker 1: played against Miami when Skyler Thompson is the quarterback on
- 26:54Speaker 1: the other side. But that's just not gonna fly anymore.
- 26:57Speaker 1: And I guess a little for me, and I've loved
- 26:58Speaker 1: the Bills all year, just a little bit of doubt
- 27:01Speaker 1: has creeped in now in terms of are they gonna
- 27:03Speaker 1: be able to flip the switch against Cincinnati, a big
- 27:06Speaker 1: time Super Bowl contender. Okay, so you had the Bengals
- 27:09Speaker 1: down one, they went from three to four. The Eagles
- 27:12Speaker 1: were idle, they were five. The Cowboys, I think you
- 27:16Speaker 1: could argue put together as impressive a super wild card
- 27:20Speaker 1: weekend performance maybe safe for the forty niners, but they
- 27:23Speaker 1: blew them out really all four quarters last night. Yet
- 27:25Speaker 1: they are stagnant at six. Yeah, and I did think
- 27:29Speaker 1: about it, should I move up the Cowboys? But ultimately,
- 27:32Speaker 1: the Hay in the barn before last night, No, the
- 27:35Speaker 1: Hey wasn't in the barn. I would say that dropping
- 27:38Speaker 1: the Eagles behind the Cowboys, I'm already a little bit
- 27:41Speaker 1: like wondering if I've made the right decision putting the
- 27:44Speaker 1: Eagles down at five after the great season they had.
- 27:46Speaker 1: But I really ultimately was like, I'm okay with that,
- 27:49Speaker 1: seeing how their season ended and Jalen hurts his injury
- 27:51Speaker 1: situation the Cowboys in a weird way, they stay at
- 27:54Speaker 1: six because this is still like what I thought. I
- 27:56Speaker 1: think they're just outside that top five of the best teams.
- 27:59Speaker 1: But what we got in that game was the showing,
- 28:01Speaker 1: especially Dak, that they can hang with any of those
- 28:05Speaker 1: five teams. I think they're better than all the teams
- 28:07Speaker 1: behind them. I think their tick below the big five.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So that's why they're six. But look, you're in an
- 28:13Speaker 1: unwinnable situation here. You're in the playoffs. You win survive
- 28:16Speaker 1: in advance. I mean what does it really necessarily matter here?
- 28:20Speaker 1: So I get it. You don't want to knock a
- 28:21Speaker 1: team for winning. They one. It's the playoffs also an
- 28:24Speaker 1: unlosable situation. You can look at it. I look at
- 28:27Speaker 1: it that way as well, Like give the Jaguars at
- 28:28Speaker 1: eight and they stay at eight. I like it. You're
- 28:31Speaker 1: You're not a glass half empty, You're a glass full guy,
- 28:33Speaker 1: Dan Nanzus. Everyone glass full guy. You get me, you
- 28:37Speaker 1: always have. I mean, we're getting there. NFL dot com
