- 0:02Speaker 1: All right, here we go finally, Kratz, we got rid
- 0:05Speaker 1: of Scott and we brought in another player for a
- 0:07Speaker 1: players only addition here on foul Territory on this Thursday.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It's beautiful here in Florida. I don't know how it
- 0:13Speaker 1: is in Pennsylvania, but I'm sure the weather sucks up
- 0:15Speaker 1: there because you're too close to New Jersey. In Texas.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's always nice in Texas. But welcome to players only.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Kevin Palar. How's all in Blue Jay Bluebird Territory over there?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh, it's going well.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Just filmed an episode obviously kind of a grindy win
- 0:30Speaker 3: last night, but what a great matchup between those two
- 0:33Speaker 3: young starting pitchers.
- 0:37Speaker 1: K what's happening in the Philadelphia area? Anything good? They
- 0:40Speaker 1: got smoked by the Reds. They didn't have a good series.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Freaking rain, rain, rain, rain. They got the game in
- 0:46Speaker 4: before the rain, though, but day off enjoy it. But
- 0:50Speaker 4: I don't really care right now. I'm youth baseball. We
- 0:53Speaker 4: got district finals coming tomorrow because today it got rained out,
- 0:57Speaker 4: and then we got we got MESSAIAU University taking on
- 1:01Speaker 4: Baldwin Wallace tomorrow. Super Regionals, Division III National Championship down
- 1:08Speaker 4: the road.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That's awesome. That's awesome, and everyone we love kids sports, KP.
- 1:13Speaker 1: How old are your kids now?
- 1:15Speaker 3: I got an eight year old, a six year old
- 1:17Speaker 3: and a nine month old eight month old boof.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I played golf the other day with Brad Hand and
- 1:22Speaker 1: uh Chris Johnson and they were talking about the nine
- 1:26Speaker 1: and the ten New Baseball and I was like, thank
- 1:28Speaker 1: you that I am done with the nine and ten
- 1:30Speaker 1: New Baseball. They're talking about practice schedules, travel tournaments in
- 1:35Speaker 1: the summer, going here and there. I'm like, they're eight
- 1:38Speaker 1: and nine, guys. Calm down, KP. You don't have to
- 1:40Speaker 1: send your kid all over the country at eight years
- 1:43Speaker 1: old to play baseball. He'll be okay.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Oh, I know, I know, I know. It's it's it's
- 1:47Speaker 3: a it's a tough climate right now to be a
- 1:49Speaker 3: parent in. And hopefully parents can kind of temper down
- 1:54Speaker 3: their their their their you know, the way they they
- 1:58Speaker 3: talk to umpires and that the way that they feel
- 2:00Speaker 3: like their kid has to be, you know, all world
- 2:03Speaker 3: at six years old to make it to the major leagues.
- 2:05Speaker 3: You know, we had on my own podcast to the
- 2:08Speaker 3: majors that's kind of what we do, and we had
- 2:10Speaker 3: Buck showaltern and we talked about kind of the climate
- 2:13Speaker 3: of youth baseball a little bit. And he texted me
- 2:15Speaker 3: the other day and said he was at his grandson's
- 2:19Speaker 3: I think like nine U game, and he said he
- 2:21Speaker 3: lasted one inning behind home plate and then had to
- 2:23Speaker 3: go sit in the outfield because of the things he
- 2:25Speaker 3: was hearing.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yes, and by the way, and by the way, the
- 2:29Speaker 1: best kid at eight is not going to be the
- 2:30Speaker 1: best kid at eighteen. You could almost guarantee that, you
- 2:33Speaker 1: can almost that's my lock.
- 2:34Speaker 4: That's my lock.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yes, luck of the century, block, of the millennium, whatever
- 2:38Speaker 1: you want to call it. Your best kid at eight nine,
- 2:41Speaker 1: probably even up to even twelve or thirteen will not
- 2:43Speaker 1: be the best kid when you get to high school
- 2:46Speaker 1: and into college. I can almost promise all of that,
- 2:48Speaker 1: because the kids are bigger, stronger, whatever it is. I mean,
- 2:51Speaker 1: not only on your podcast KP, but also Dirt from
- 2:53Speaker 1: the Dugout with Carl Ravich and Justin I always want
- 2:57Speaker 1: to say, I'm always going to call him just a muscle.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But I know that's not right. I know, but I
- 3:02Speaker 1: always it always looks like muscles. So uh, let's let's
- 3:04Speaker 1: charge him out here. We've had enough of our venting
- 3:06Speaker 1: about youth baseball. Let's charge him ount, Let's charge them out.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Here we go. What'd you guys think last night? Dodgers
- 3:16Speaker 1: beat the Padres? Show Hey, Show only threw five innings,
- 3:19Speaker 1: ruined my lock with only not a lot of strikeouts.
- 3:22Speaker 1: First pitch though, whack, leadoff homer, Dodgers up one nothing,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Dodgers lost, didn't play great, but then they came back
- 3:28Speaker 1: to win the last two in this series. What are
- 3:30Speaker 1: we thinking about the Dodgers and the Padres? Ek?
- 3:33Speaker 4: I mean, it's I think it's been a good series.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Neither team really looks like they have too much offense.
- 3:38Speaker 4: I didn't think Sho Hay was gonna hit last night.
- 3:40Speaker 4: He did, but is that why they took him out
- 3:43Speaker 4: after the fifth?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Like?
- 3:45Speaker 4: Was it? I think it was eighty eight pitches. Yeah,
- 3:48Speaker 4: the Padres put together some good at bats, But to me,
- 3:53Speaker 4: I think, you know, is this how they're gonna deal
- 3:56Speaker 4: with show Hey the rest of the year. He's dominating
- 3:59Speaker 4: on the mat. He clearly wants to dominate on the mound,
- 4:02Speaker 4: and he's totally fine with only hitting two eighty and
- 4:06Speaker 4: you know, maybe thirty five home runs at the plate.
- 4:08Speaker 4: I say only because I'm kind of sarcastically joking. But
- 4:13Speaker 4: if this is what they're gonna do with show hey,
- 4:15Speaker 4: because it's gonna be enough. They're gonna make the playoffs.
- 4:17Speaker 4: The Padres aren't going to catch them, blah blah blah.
- 4:19Speaker 4: The Diamacks are playing well, but they're still way behind.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But to me, I think the bigger story is do
- 4:26Speaker 4: the Padres have enough offense? Because I know the Dodgers'
- 4:29Speaker 4: offense is struggling a little bit ti Oscar hit the
- 4:31Speaker 4: second deck home or late. But do the Padres have
- 4:34Speaker 4: enough offense? Not just not just to not just last
- 4:38Speaker 4: night because show Hay has been nasty, but do they
- 4:41Speaker 4: have enough to push them through to win the World Series,
- 4:46Speaker 4: make the playoffs? Sure they have enough. Do they have
- 4:49Speaker 4: enough to win the World Series?
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah? I don't know. I don't know.
- 4:54Speaker 3: But how many at bats do you think it's enough
- 4:57Speaker 3: at bats to be like, hey, I think this is
- 4:59Speaker 3: kind of the type of year that some of these
- 5:01Speaker 3: players are gonna have because obviously, if you look at
- 5:04Speaker 3: the back of the baseball cards of a lot of
- 5:05Speaker 3: these Padre hitters, you're gonna expect a lot more out
- 5:08Speaker 3: of these guys. But obviously, you know the Manny Machado's
- 5:11Speaker 3: of the world, the Xander Bogarts, they are aging a
- 5:14Speaker 3: little bit. Obviously, great to see a buddy of mine,
- 5:17Speaker 3: Gavin Sheets, having a great year hitting in the middle
- 5:20Speaker 3: of that order. But what's going on with Fernando Tatis
- 5:23Speaker 3: Junior is He's not gonna be this bad all year.
- 5:26Speaker 3: But is he going to be closer to the guy
- 5:29Speaker 3: that he was a couple of years ago.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I don't know. I think it's I think we're gonna
- 5:32Speaker 2: have to figure out.
- 5:33Speaker 3: But I think the thing that stood out to me
- 5:35Speaker 3: in the game last night is I show Hate to
- 5:38Speaker 3: Me is always kind of this cool, calm, collective presence.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You know, obviously he cares a lot. We everyone talks
- 5:45Speaker 3: about his work ethic and what he does behind closed doors.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But to see the emotion last night when he got
- 5:51Speaker 3: that basis though that double played in the inning. It's
- 5:53Speaker 3: just a different side of him that I haven't really
- 5:56Speaker 3: seen much out of him before, and just really cool
- 5:59Speaker 3: to see him out there doing this thing on the mound.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But I think the Dodgers are I think we saw
- 6:06Speaker 3: it a little bit last year too, Maybe not so
- 6:08Speaker 3: much with Show Heytani, but them collectively just understanding that
- 6:13Speaker 3: they're built to win the postseason and to win the
- 6:15Speaker 3: World Series. Like whatever happens in the regular season, there's
- 6:18Speaker 3: kind of be ebbs and flows. But I think coming
- 6:20Speaker 3: off back to back, you know, World Series, obviously going
- 6:24Speaker 3: super late into the season, I think you're seeing them
- 6:28Speaker 3: protect the players a little bit more, probably no more
- 6:30Speaker 3: than show hey. Probably the reason he's not hitting every
- 6:33Speaker 3: single day, he's getting some days off. I know the
- 6:35Speaker 3: struggles have probably played a little bit into that as
- 6:37Speaker 3: well too, you know, him only going five yesterday. I
- 6:42Speaker 3: know he pitched in and out of some trouble yesterday,
- 6:44Speaker 3: only eighty eight pitches. But I think they are just
- 6:47Speaker 3: trying to do their best to let this team kind
- 6:51Speaker 3: of kind of peak as they get into like September, October,
- 6:54Speaker 3: and then obviously through the postseason. So it's just going
- 6:57Speaker 3: to be interested to see how they kind of, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 3: for a lack of better terms, load manage a lot
- 7:02Speaker 3: of their players this year as they're trying to win
- 7:05Speaker 3: their third straight World Series.
- 7:09Speaker 4: We love our dog Fella who splays out in the
- 7:11Speaker 4: open sun on our floor like she's an underwear model,
- 7:14Speaker 4: and that's why we love her so much. To scratch
- 7:16Speaker 4: her belly. She's a cutie.

- 8:09Speaker 4: Well, real quick about what he said about tatis Uh,
- 8:13Speaker 4: He's still hitting the ball harder than everybody in the league. Okay,
- 8:17Speaker 4: a KP. So he is not cooked yet. Okay, I
- 8:20Speaker 4: just want to make sure Twitter let me on fire
- 8:23Speaker 4: last week. I'm now just putting the flames out. But
- 8:26Speaker 4: just so you know that Tatis is he's hitting the
- 8:29Speaker 4: ball as hard as anybody. So this isn't going to continue.
- 8:32Speaker 4: He just has a bad hitting coach, is what Twitter
- 8:34Speaker 4: told me to.
- 8:36Speaker 2: M.
- 8:37Speaker 1: He also has zero homers and we're almost a June,
- 8:39Speaker 1: just definitely, so he can hit the ball hard on
- 8:41Speaker 1: the ground all he wants, but zero homers.
- 8:43Speaker 2: He's got one. I think he hit one right, didn't
- 8:45Speaker 2: hit not yet?
- 8:48Speaker 1: He still he still has AI as far as I know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: unless he hit one yesterday. I didn't see and they
- 8:52Speaker 1: got shut out, so I don't think he hit one yesterday.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Uh but here here's my question for you guys. What
- 8:58Speaker 1: do you guys think about besides Tatis? We know that story.
- 9:01Speaker 1: We've we've banged on that drum too much. Now, how
- 9:04Speaker 1: important was this series to the Dodgers and Dave Roberts
- 9:07Speaker 1: and he pitched Otani and he said, hey, this game
- 9:10Speaker 1: is a big game. I'm also going to have him hit,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and the atmosphere in San Diego is always rocking d
- 9:16Speaker 1: la chance, how much does this regular season series mean?
- 9:19Speaker 1: And the Dodgers trying to make a statements to the
- 9:21Speaker 1: Padres that, hey, you guys are still our little brother.
- 9:26Speaker 2: I think a little bit. I think a little bit.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I think obviously the Dodgers are playing for something a
- 9:33Speaker 3: lot greater than trying to win the series against the Padres,
- 9:36Speaker 3: But to go out there and send him a friendly
- 9:39Speaker 3: reminder that you know, we're still the Alphas and you're
- 9:43Speaker 3: still our little baby brother. You know, there's certain series
- 9:48Speaker 3: along the there's certain games and series you know, throughout
- 9:51Speaker 3: the season where you're gonna see, you know, Dave Roberts
- 9:54Speaker 3: be a little bit more strategic with maybe giving some
- 9:57Speaker 3: guys a day off, you know, missing a e in
- 10:00Speaker 3: the rotation, with certain starting pitchers, giving Otawni a couple
- 10:03Speaker 3: of days off. But to go out and kind of
- 10:06Speaker 3: just make a little bit of a statement against the
- 10:07Speaker 3: Padres who have been playing pretty well, you know, I
- 10:11Speaker 3: think it's something that I think Dave Roberts seems to
- 10:15Speaker 3: think is a little bit important.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I mean, test you know heat check in basketball, and
- 10:22Speaker 4: dudes are like, how hot am I? Oh, I'm just
- 10:24Speaker 4: gonna launch this three up. How good are we? Is
- 10:27Speaker 4: what I think Dave Roberts said here. Normally shohe has
- 10:32Speaker 4: not been playing either maybe the day before he wasn't hitting,
- 10:36Speaker 4: the day of, or the day after he hit the
- 10:40Speaker 4: day he pitched. So clearly Dave and maybe even the
- 10:43Speaker 4: players not necessarily, they're not like, oh, panic, we got
- 10:47Speaker 4: to beat the Padres. They were half a game up
- 10:49Speaker 4: to start the series against us, Like, No, I don't
- 10:52Speaker 4: think it's that way. I don't think it's in that sense.
- 10:54Speaker 4: I think it's a sense of we don't have many
- 10:57Speaker 4: like true tests during the season. We're going to beat teams.
- 11:01Speaker 4: We're going to win because we have a great team,
- 11:04Speaker 4: and great teams figure out how ways to win. But
- 11:07Speaker 4: I think show hayes emotion after the double play to
- 11:11Speaker 4: Tatis where he's yelling off the mound, which which KP
- 11:13Speaker 4: had talked about, is huge, And I think just the
- 11:16Speaker 4: telling sign of how who they let play out there
- 11:19Speaker 4: wasn't like, you know what, We're gonna just kind of
- 11:22Speaker 4: have our you know this this series is just going
- 11:25Speaker 4: to kind of go this way, just like any other series.
- 11:27Speaker 4: We get guys in Alice Call get a start and
- 11:30Speaker 4: all that stuff, like to have show Hey hit and
- 11:33Speaker 4: to see show Hayes energy. And it was a really
- 11:38Speaker 4: good series that maybe didn't involve as much offense as
- 11:41Speaker 4: I thought it would, but you had some really good pitchers.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Michael King, Yamamoto, show Hey, Randy Vasquez has been doing well.
- 11:48Speaker 4: But to me, you have the big names like that
- 11:51Speaker 4: in this series, everybody gets a little bit more amped up.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And then last thing on this series, Jackson Merrill leaves
- 11:57Speaker 1: the game back tweaked his back, kind of a kind
- 12:01Speaker 1: of an interesting thing. How big of a blow is
- 12:03Speaker 1: that for the Padres. Also, he didn't speak to the
- 12:07Speaker 1: media after the game, which I don't know how you
- 12:09Speaker 1: guys feel about that, but I feel like if you're
- 12:10Speaker 1: a star and you think you're a star, that if
- 12:13Speaker 1: people think you're a star. Of the way people look
- 12:15Speaker 1: at Jackson Merrill as a star in this game, is
- 12:17Speaker 1: it your duty as a player to stand there and
- 12:19Speaker 1: speak to the media and give an update or is
- 12:21Speaker 1: it up to someone else to do that on the
- 12:23Speaker 1: Padres No, I.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Think as a player it is your responsibility. I guess
- 12:27Speaker 3: the only two things that sort of trump that is
- 12:30Speaker 3: was he in the training room getting treatment or was
- 12:32Speaker 3: it severe enough where he had left to go get
- 12:35Speaker 3: maybe an MRI on his back. But if he just
- 12:38Speaker 3: decided to leave, you know, because he didn't want to
- 12:40Speaker 3: answer any questions, because maybe he doesn't even have the answers,
- 12:43Speaker 3: but at least standing there and being accountable, respectful and
- 12:49Speaker 3: just saying like, hey, you know, I went hard against
- 12:52Speaker 3: the wall, you know, on the leadoff Homer, I came
- 12:56Speaker 3: back to the dugout. I was a little tight. I
- 12:57Speaker 3: tweaked it a little bit. You know, got a ton
- 12:59Speaker 3: of treatment. I may or may not need an MRI,
- 13:03Speaker 3: whatever it might be. Just sit there and answer the questions.
- 13:05Speaker 3: I don't I don't get what was so hard as
- 13:09Speaker 3: a player to you know, just sit there. And especially
- 13:12Speaker 3: with it's like a little kind of a tweak back thing,
- 13:15Speaker 3: it can be difficult when you are the closure of
- 13:18Speaker 3: a game and you give up a game winning home
- 13:20Speaker 3: run to like sit at your locker and be respectful
- 13:25Speaker 3: and give them time because obviously your your blood's boiling
- 13:28Speaker 3: on the inside and you're upset and you're disappointed. But
- 13:31Speaker 3: like to not be there and not be present for
- 13:34Speaker 3: something like that is I think not a good look,
- 13:37Speaker 3: especially if you're trying to be or if you are
- 13:40Speaker 3: a superstar, but you're also trying to be you know,
- 13:43Speaker 3: a face of the franchise. You're trying to be an
- 13:45Speaker 3: example for the younger kids coming up, like you need
- 13:48Speaker 3: to be there.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I think maybe learned from the other guys in the
- 13:52Speaker 4: clubhouse and if they're if they're a conjoined unit, if
- 13:55Speaker 4: they're like they're together and they're like, hey, you know what,
- 13:57Speaker 4: we're not always going to talk, we're not always going
- 13:59Speaker 4: to be the most team then where we always have
- 14:02Speaker 4: each other's back in that way, you know, maybe that
- 14:04Speaker 4: was the case. I hope it's not something severe like
- 14:06Speaker 4: he's getting an MRI or X ray or anything like
- 14:09Speaker 4: that that he missed it. But to me, missing him
- 14:12Speaker 4: in this lineup, okay, I think he's hitting like to
- 14:15Speaker 4: ten something like that. You think he's gonna hit better
- 14:18Speaker 4: than that. I think he's got like an ops of
- 14:20Speaker 4: like ops plus of like sixty eight or something. He's
- 14:24Speaker 4: going to go up. So that's a loss if he
- 14:26Speaker 4: misses time. But his defense you don't just find. You
- 14:30Speaker 4: don't find big league catchers just sitting around, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 4: coming in and starting six out of seven games. You
- 14:38Speaker 4: don't find big league shortstops that can play shortstop six
- 14:42Speaker 4: six days a week. And you don't find true center
- 14:45Speaker 4: fielders that can play center field at the level that
- 14:47Speaker 4: Jackson Merrill is and has been this year just lying around.
- 14:52Speaker 4: You don't just say, okay, well you know what, Ramon Learano,
- 14:55Speaker 4: you're gonna slide over. You know what, Tatish, you're a
- 14:57Speaker 4: platinum glove and right field I know we're playing it
- 15:00Speaker 4: second base all time. You're gonna slide in the center field.
- 15:03Speaker 4: It is a hard position, and to lose that defense,
- 15:06Speaker 4: I think it loses some of their superpower, which is defense,
- 15:10Speaker 4: athleticism and pitching.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Spreading rumors. This is a great one, guys. I can't
- 15:19Speaker 1: wait to talk about this. Sho Hao Tani. Ken Rosenthal
- 15:23Speaker 1: wrote a Tampa Bay Ray, the proposed twenty twenty three
- 15:25Speaker 1: deadline deal that would have shocked baseball. Do the way
- 15:29Speaker 1: Rays always seem like they swing big guys and miss.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Remember they tried to sign Freddy Freeman. They've thrown some
- 15:35Speaker 1: big offers out there to guys for shorter terms. It
- 15:37Speaker 1: hasn't worked out, But can you imagine the difference if
- 15:39Speaker 1: sho Hao Tani became a Tampa Bay Ray?
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:44Speaker 3: I mean, it would it would have probably changed the
- 15:47Speaker 3: way a lot of maybe free agents view go into Tampa,
- 15:50Speaker 3: And I don't know if they would have had an
- 15:51Speaker 3: opportunity to keep them there long term, you know, if
- 15:55Speaker 3: he would have got traded in twenty three and kind
- 15:57Speaker 3: of finished out his time there. But uh, you think
- 16:02Speaker 3: about two way players, and for some reason, Tampa just
- 16:04Speaker 3: seems like the place where two play two way players
- 16:07Speaker 3: would really play. I know they tried it with the
- 16:10Speaker 3: kit they drafted a couple of years ago, but you know,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I'm not surprised that the Angels didn't trade them, just
- 16:16Speaker 3: knowing everything I know about the Angels and the way
- 16:19Speaker 3: that already operates. But you think about potentially what they
- 16:24Speaker 3: could have gotten back, and it's right here on the
- 16:26Speaker 3: screen what they could have gotten back for show Hey
- 16:29Speaker 3: for for a couple of months trading them away. And
- 16:32Speaker 3: you know, if you if you're not gonna go into
- 16:34Speaker 3: that offseason and pretty much give show Hey a blank
- 16:38Speaker 3: check and say whatever you want, whatever terms you want
- 16:40Speaker 3: in order to bring them back, then you did that
- 16:43Speaker 3: organization a disservice by not trading away for the last
- 16:46Speaker 3: couple of months.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Because the Angels weren't going to the postseason and you.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Potentially had an opportunity to get you know, a player
- 16:53Speaker 3: that you know really kind of changes the trajectory of
- 16:56Speaker 3: your your franchise. And they probably could have got more
- 16:58Speaker 3: than that. I think, you know, being there and being
- 17:00Speaker 3: around guys, I think it was even rumored to be
- 17:02Speaker 3: more from Tampa. And I know there were some other
- 17:04Speaker 3: offers from some other teams out there that would have
- 17:07Speaker 3: dramatically changed the depth of players that the Angels had
- 17:12Speaker 3: in their organization.

- 18:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, obviously the anybody that is brought up
- 18:19Speaker 4: in a room or you sit there and you go,
- 18:21Speaker 4: that would have looked nice to an angel's uniform. Of
- 18:23Speaker 4: course we could have used that, Like, but I love
- 18:26Speaker 4: that picture. If we can bring that picture back up,
- 18:28Speaker 4: show hey, looks right at home in the Ray's uniform.
- 18:32Speaker 4: I love that are behind the scenes staff made that
- 18:36Speaker 4: like he would have looked legit. But the reality is, yes,
- 18:40Speaker 4: we all know the Rays would not have would not
- 18:43Speaker 4: have kept him. Yes, we know the Rays would not
- 18:45Speaker 4: have have forty home run threat this year with junior
- 18:48Speaker 4: Cameronaro still in the lineup, but they were a playoff team.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Show hey, does he still blow out? People are like,
- 18:56Speaker 4: doesn't matter, he wouldn't have been pitching. Does he still
- 18:59Speaker 4: blow out? Maybe maybe I'm not saying he does, or
- 19:01Speaker 4: he doesn't. That's an argument or a discussion that I'll
- 19:05Speaker 4: have with God when I go to heaven one day.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Because there is a world where you build a baseball
- 19:12Speaker 4: team to make the playoffs, which the Rays have been
- 19:14Speaker 4: doing forever, and then you do things to push yourself
- 19:18Speaker 4: over the limit, you push yourself to win the World Series.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Because yes, the Rays have gone to the playoffs. They've
- 19:25Speaker 4: not perfected it, but they've done a really good job
- 19:27Speaker 4: of saying, you know what, we don't need to spend money.
- 19:30Speaker 4: We're going to go to the playoffs. And if you're
- 19:32Speaker 4: able to have a guy like show Hey push you
- 19:35Speaker 4: across the line, there is no better pickup than and
- 19:39Speaker 4: you should push as hard all in as you can
- 19:43Speaker 4: for that type of player, because in the moment, they
- 19:46Speaker 4: had no idea he was going to blow out and
- 19:48Speaker 4: he needed his second Tommy John or whatever it was reconstruction.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Because during that time I had also heard Jackson Holliday,
- 19:55Speaker 4: who was a number one pick, I mean, the number
- 19:58Speaker 4: one prospect in baseball, was being offered for sho Hao Tani. Now,
- 20:05Speaker 4: obviously the Orioles, if they're the ones that balked at
- 20:08Speaker 4: it because they didn't want to give him up. But
- 20:10Speaker 4: if you remember the twenty twenty three what did the
- 20:12Speaker 4: Orioles look like? They look like the team that Bob
- 20:15Speaker 4: had just mentioned that was going to be the next group.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Were they going to resign show? Hey? Probably not. That's
- 20:23Speaker 4: not the discussion here. The discussion is what does it
- 20:26Speaker 4: take to win game five in a five game series?
- 20:30Speaker 4: It takes a player like Shoeo Tani. What does it
- 20:32Speaker 4: take to win game seven? Like any team that has
- 20:35Speaker 4: ever fallen short by a game in the regular season
- 20:39Speaker 4: or by a game in the postseason, you will always say, well,
- 20:43Speaker 4: what if, what if we had this? You don't, But
- 20:47Speaker 4: as a front office you need to make the push
- 20:49Speaker 4: to make sure you get that guy, even if it
- 20:52Speaker 4: does mean Junior Camenero in my opinion.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Well, you mentioned the Orioles. There's other rumors out there
- 20:59Speaker 1: about him possibly to the Yankees, possibly going to the Race,
- 21:03Speaker 1: possibly going to the Orioles. I mean, look at these uniforms.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Which one does he look the best in?
- 21:09Speaker 4: Oh Man, I think I really think the Yankees. I
- 21:12Speaker 4: like the rings. I really love the race. The first
- 21:15Speaker 4: picture that we saw. I loved the Race. The Orioles
- 21:18Speaker 4: is good. Orange may not be his thing. The Yankees,
- 21:23Speaker 4: and he would have gotten he would have gotten an
- 21:25Speaker 4: opportunity and where this is all hypothetical, but he would
- 21:28Speaker 4: have gotten opportunity to see the professionalism, to see how
- 21:32Speaker 4: the Yankees do it, and it would have been something that,
- 21:35Speaker 4: you know what, he would have helped that team. Even
- 21:38Speaker 4: if he's not pitching, if he's only dhing, if he's
- 21:42Speaker 4: only in and people say, wow, Gihn, Carlos Stanton's the
- 21:44Speaker 4: DH and he's stuck there, you have to as a
- 21:48Speaker 4: front office do all you can, because there's no doubt
- 21:52Speaker 4: in my mind, any team I've ever been on that
- 21:53Speaker 4: makes a playoff push, the players are pushing and giving
- 21:58Speaker 4: everything they have need to be willing to get rid
- 22:01Speaker 4: of whatever that prospect is. I'm sure in twenty twenty three,
- 22:03Speaker 4: I could look back and see the Yankees prospects. But
- 22:06Speaker 4: if it's Spencer Jones, do you get rid of him?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Yes?
- 22:11Speaker 4: If it was Ben Rice, do you get rid of
- 22:13Speaker 4: him yes? Because in twenty twenty three you didn't know
- 22:15Speaker 4: what you had. I don't think I think Jason Dimingez
- 22:18Speaker 4: was probably already up at that point, but he was
- 22:21Speaker 4: he was the Martian. You look at what guys have done.
- 22:26Speaker 4: And you say, yeah, I would give that up. I
- 22:28Speaker 4: don't think there's one player I would give up if
- 22:31Speaker 4: it meant you win a World Series. I know that's
- 22:33Speaker 4: not guaranteed, but I have a hard time believing I
- 22:35Speaker 4: wouldn't trade any one player, even if you tell me
- 22:38Speaker 4: what he does. If you can guarantee me we win
- 22:40Speaker 4: a World Series, I'll trade that player.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Yeah, if memory serves me correct. I believe it was
- 22:48Speaker 3: a combination of Jason Domingus, Anthony Volpi and Luis Hill
- 22:53Speaker 3: were rumored to be traded for show Hay in twenty
- 22:58Speaker 3: twenty three. They've had their ups and downs, but I
- 23:02Speaker 3: think those three guys going over to the Angels would
- 23:05Speaker 3: have dramatically changed the way that people viewed the Angels.
- 23:09Speaker 3: I mean those all three of those guys have had
- 23:11Speaker 3: moments in the big leagues. Obviously, Volpi's kind of had
- 23:14Speaker 3: up and down, Luis Hill has had up and down.
- 23:16Speaker 3: The Martian hasn't really gotten going, but who's to say
- 23:19Speaker 3: he wouldn't have gotten going if he was getting every
- 23:21Speaker 3: day opportunities to play left field in Anaheim. But I
- 23:25Speaker 3: think what you said earlier too, Kratz, I think when
- 23:28Speaker 3: you are so close to making the push to get
- 23:32Speaker 3: into the postseason, or to win playoff games.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Or to win a World Series, Especially when you're.
- 23:38Speaker 3: A team that has a legitimate chance to sign this
- 23:40Speaker 3: guy in free agency, like the Yankees probably would have.
- 23:44Speaker 3: There is no better endorsement than getting a guy over
- 23:47Speaker 3: into your clubhouse, into your ecosystem, into your organization. There's
- 23:52Speaker 3: no better sell to a guy when you can go
- 23:54Speaker 3: over to New York and when you're a beloved figure
- 23:57Speaker 3: by that fan base, when you're in that clubhouse with
- 23:59Speaker 3: a guy like Aaron Judge and some of the other guys,
- 24:01Speaker 3: when you see how first class that organization is, when
- 24:04Speaker 3: you see the way that they travel, when they see
- 24:06Speaker 3: the way you know the chefs take care of the
- 24:08Speaker 3: players and the clubs take care of the players, that's
- 24:11Speaker 3: even more important to go all in when you do
- 24:13Speaker 3: feel like you are going to be targeting this guy
- 24:16Speaker 3: in free agency, even if you do have to give up.
- 24:18Speaker 3: You know a lot of these great players or these
- 24:20Speaker 3: players that end up being great big leaguers. But when
- 24:23Speaker 3: you're a team like the Yankees, when you're a team
- 24:25Speaker 3: like the Dodgers, when you're a team like the Phillies,
- 24:27Speaker 3: and you have the ability to go out and spend.
- 24:30Speaker 3: You go out and you get these guys into your organization.
- 24:34Speaker 3: There's no better sell for a player than and being there,
- 24:37Speaker 3: putting the uniform, mom being in that environment, and it
- 24:40Speaker 3: makes it even more tough when they go to free agency.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Do they want to leave somewhere that you know, they've
- 24:45Speaker 3: been beloved and they love and they understand that it's
- 24:48Speaker 3: first class And you know, when you're a free agent,
- 24:50Speaker 3: you go on all these trips to all these different
- 24:52Speaker 3: organizations get their cell There's no better sell than actually
- 24:55Speaker 3: being there.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Right well, show hey, we know didn't get traded because,
- 25:01Speaker 1: as we've mentioned many times, the Angels don't make trades
- 25:03Speaker 1: like this because Artie Moreno wants to hold onto guys
- 25:06Speaker 1: sometimes for too long, like he held on to show hey.
- 25:09Speaker 1: There's also the other trade that Joe Davis mentioned.
- 25:12Speaker 4: What was it?
- 25:12Speaker 1: Ross strippling Jock Peterson and Andy Pajes who's turning into
- 25:15Speaker 1: a star himself, for Luis Renhifo, who now I believe
- 25:19Speaker 1: is a brewer, and a couple of minor leaguers. But
- 25:23Speaker 1: Arti Moreno nixed it because he didn't want to wait longer,
- 25:25Speaker 1: because it was because of the Dodgers or whatever, whatever
- 25:29Speaker 1: the reason was. Does Arti Moreno have too much say
- 25:32Speaker 1: with the Angels and making decisions on this guys.
- 25:36Speaker 3: I mean, he is the owner, but I would say so.
- 25:39Speaker 3: But I think there has to be a little bit
- 25:42Speaker 3: less pride and who where you trade a guy, would
- 25:46Speaker 3: it have made the Dodgers potentially better or I don't know,
- 25:50Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, if you feel
- 25:51Speaker 3: like you were making your organization better because of the
- 25:55Speaker 3: players that you're getting, it shouldn't necessarily matter who you're
- 25:58Speaker 3: trading with.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I could understand.
- 26:00Speaker 3: And like, if you're in the Alas, trading in within
- 26:02Speaker 3: division potentially because you got to compete against them and
- 26:05Speaker 3: you see him, But just because they're up the road
- 26:08Speaker 3: and you both you know, have Los Angeles in front
- 26:11Speaker 3: of your name, it's not a reason not the trade
- 26:14Speaker 3: with a certainty because you despise them or dislike him,
- 26:17Speaker 3: and you guys are competing somewhat in the same market,
- 26:20Speaker 3: but you're not even in the same league. So if
- 26:22Speaker 3: it's going to go out and make your organization better,
- 26:24Speaker 3: you got to go make that trade.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Is he is Arty Moreno the Jerry Jones of baseball?
- 26:32Speaker 4: Is he too? Is he too involved in, in my opinion,
- 26:36Speaker 4: the stories that we're getting because we haven't heard we
- 26:39Speaker 4: haven't heard it come out, or we haven't heard Arty
- 26:42Speaker 4: Moreno say these things. We're only getting them from essentially
- 26:45Speaker 4: second and third hand stories. It seems like he feels
- 26:50Speaker 4: like there is decisions that need to be made, that
- 26:53Speaker 4: he hires people to make the decisions, but then he
- 26:56Speaker 4: goes ahead and makes those decisions or or goes over
- 27:00Speaker 4: top of over Trump's Trump's their decisions and says, you
- 27:03Speaker 4: know what, I'm sick of waiting. Like the Dodgers had
- 27:07Speaker 4: a basically the story that Joe Davis said was they
- 27:11Speaker 4: had to wait until the Mookie Bets trade, which is,
- 27:15Speaker 4: if you remember, kind of a big deal that the
- 27:18Speaker 4: Dodgers picked up Mookie Bets for essentially now Connor wong
- 27:23Speaker 4: to the Red Sox because the Red Sox didn't want
- 27:25Speaker 4: to pay Mookie Bets what he was worth to be
- 27:27Speaker 4: their franchise star. That's a Red Sox are a whole
- 27:30Speaker 4: nother story, John Henry. But and so he got he
- 27:34Speaker 4: got impatient, He got impatient and said, nah, we're not
- 27:40Speaker 4: going to do it. I just it just seems like
- 27:44Speaker 4: a little bit of measured decision making needs to be
- 27:48Speaker 4: happening at that level. And I've heard I've heard different stories.
- 27:51Speaker 4: I've heard people that he was going to hire to
- 27:53Speaker 4: be high up in his organization say Okay, I'll take
- 27:59Speaker 4: this job. I'll work for you, and very respected people
- 28:01Speaker 4: in those positions. But you have to be willing to
- 28:05Speaker 4: make these changes. And his exact answer was, I don't
- 28:10Speaker 4: think those things are important, So we're going to continue
- 28:13Speaker 4: to go in a different direction. And these are people
- 28:15Speaker 4: that start helped organizations change around their systems. I'm being
- 28:20Speaker 4: very vague because of who told me this, but change
- 28:24Speaker 4: their systems created a World Series winning team and with
- 28:29Speaker 4: those systems have created a winner for a decent amount
- 28:33Speaker 4: of time here, so it and he was willing to
- 28:36Speaker 4: go and help Artie, and Artie said, nah, I don't
- 28:39Speaker 4: think those things are worth it. Thank you for your time.
- 28:43Speaker 4: We'll go a different direction.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I mentioned that Joe Davis brought this up on the broadcast.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Did you guys see that the New York fans or
- 28:54Speaker 1: not the New York fans the New York Well, the
- 28:55Speaker 1: fans do and the radio guys are crush Joe Davis
- 28:58Speaker 1: when he made the comment of out the Mets. Oh no,
- 29:01Speaker 1: the Mets when they drop the pop ups over the
- 29:03Speaker 1: weekend against the Yankees. And now Joe Davis is getting
- 29:07Speaker 1: annihilated because he's a homer for the Dodgers, even though
- 29:11Speaker 1: he's doing a national game. I mean, Jason Bennetti does
- 29:14Speaker 1: national games. He's a homer for the Tigers. I'm sorry, right,
- 29:17Speaker 1: Wayne Rendazo does national games. He's the Angels guy. Aaron
- 29:21Speaker 1: Goldsmith does Fox games. Who else? I'm working with Brandon
- 29:24Speaker 1: Gawdon in a couple weeks he does Braves games. Do
- 29:27Speaker 1: you guys think this is a thing? Because I've worked
- 29:29Speaker 1: with Joe Davis a lot. He does a lot of
- 29:31Speaker 1: things to try to not make him look like a homer.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Do you guys think this is a real thing, because
- 29:36Speaker 1: I think it's usually with guys I work with, they
- 29:39Speaker 1: try to go the opposite way and make it less Now.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I know he did the Dodgers' World Series parade last year,
- 29:45Speaker 1: and that's the thing they're mentioning. But he is the
- 29:48Speaker 1: voice of the Dodgers. He does do one hundred and
- 29:50Speaker 1: forty five games of him plus the postseason last year.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Do you think this is a thing or do you
- 29:55Speaker 1: guys just think this is New York fans being mad
- 29:57Speaker 1: and being a little upset because the Mets aren't playing Will.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I think it's more of a New York thing.
- 30:03Speaker 3: And I know exactly what you're referring to, because I
- 30:07Speaker 3: went back and watched the highlight of it and I
- 30:09Speaker 3: saw him drop it, and you know, this is we're
- 30:13Speaker 3: major leaguers, we're outfielders. Like you know, we talked about
- 30:17Speaker 3: it off camera, like there's no bad hops in the
- 30:19Speaker 3: sky right, like we're just seeing a lot of these
- 30:22Speaker 3: fly balls being dropped.
- 30:23Speaker 2: And I know it's a young kid.
- 30:24Speaker 3: And he's not typically a right fielder, and you know,
- 30:27Speaker 3: things happened, but I felt like he just kind of
- 30:29Speaker 3: reacted in the moment because it is a little bit
- 30:32Speaker 3: shocking to see a routine play drop by a major
- 30:35Speaker 3: league outfield. But Joe's got a very difficult job to
- 30:38Speaker 3: do because he is the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers,
- 30:41Speaker 3: but he does national games and he was probably put
- 30:43Speaker 3: in a tough spot last year, you know, covering the
- 30:46Speaker 3: World Series which the Dodgers were in and trying to
- 30:50Speaker 3: be neutral. And if you go back and listen to
- 30:52Speaker 3: a lot of the calls, he made.
- 30:54Speaker 2: He does a really good job of staying neutral, in
- 30:57Speaker 2: my opinion, And.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Obviously you have a lot more experience sitting next to
- 31:02Speaker 3: these guys calling these national games, and sometimes they do
- 31:06Speaker 3: call games that you know they work for. It has
- 31:10Speaker 3: to be a difficult thing to do.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Go back to our conversation with John Schneider in spring training.
- 31:16Speaker 4: He even said it, he was like, oh, Joe Davis
- 31:18Speaker 4: was cheering for the Dodgers, So Joe Davis is going
- 31:21Speaker 4: to get a ring. Just go back to the conversation
- 31:23Speaker 4: we had. I love Joe Davis. I think his reactions
- 31:26Speaker 4: are perfect, they're natural. I love hearing his voice, his
- 31:29Speaker 4: cadence to take over for the guys that he's taken
- 31:32Speaker 4: over for, Vince Scully, Joe Buck. He's doing a really
- 31:38Speaker 4: freaking good job.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, let's not forget how hard that is.
- 31:42Speaker 4: And it's interesting.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Did you feel like, let's ask Kping, he's a Bluejet fan,
- 31:47Speaker 1: did you feel like you were listening to a Dodgers
- 31:48Speaker 1: announcer in the World Series or were you listening to
- 31:51Speaker 1: a guy that was just doing a game and excited
- 31:53Speaker 1: for whoever was winning.
- 31:54Speaker 3: No, I mean, I think naturally, you're always going to
- 31:57Speaker 3: be a little bit biased, because I mean, we watch
- 31:59Speaker 3: a lot of baseball games, and when you hear his voice,
- 32:01Speaker 3: you think Dodgers. So when you turn on the Fox
- 32:04Speaker 3: broadcast for the World Series, like it feels like a
- 32:07Speaker 3: Dodger game, But when you actually listen to him call
- 32:09Speaker 3: the game, I think he does a tremendous job of
- 32:12Speaker 3: staying neutral. And it's got to be an extremely hard
- 32:15Speaker 3: position to be in because, as you know, when you
- 32:18Speaker 3: are somewhat affiliated with the team, and he's more than somewhat,
- 32:21Speaker 3: he is the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, you
- 32:24Speaker 3: become a fan of the guys. You become a fan
- 32:26Speaker 3: of the team, You become a fan of the organization.
- 32:28Speaker 3: You are part of that organization. The players embrace you
- 32:31Speaker 3: when you are the announcer of the team, you know.
- 32:35Speaker 3: But going back listening to do certain calls during the
- 32:38Speaker 3: World Series, I mean, just think about the home run
- 32:41Speaker 3: that Bobaschett hit off Otani in Game seven. You're telling
- 32:45Speaker 3: me that that sounded like a guy who was a
- 32:47Speaker 3: homer for the Dodgers in that moment. He was equally
- 32:50Speaker 3: as excited for that home run as he was for
- 32:52Speaker 3: the Miguel Rojas home run. He just has a knack
- 32:56Speaker 3: for playing to the moment of the game, no matter
- 32:58Speaker 3: what teams in that moment.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a little biased, but Joe Davis and Adam
- 33:05Speaker 1: Amin are two of the best baseball announcers out there,
- 33:07Speaker 1: So I love those guys. Obviously I have to work
- 33:09Speaker 1: with them, so I have to kiss up to him
- 33:10Speaker 1: a little bit so they'll still talk to me. And well,
- 33:12Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna pass this along because I
- 33:14Speaker 1: work with Joe Davis on Saturday. Guess what team he's
- 33:17Speaker 1: broadcasting on Saturday.
- 33:19Speaker 4: Oh, please tell me. It's the Dodgers.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Dodgers against Brewer. That's his favorite, the Brewers. Yeah, so
- 33:26Speaker 1: I'll ask, We'll come on Monday and ask. We'll ask
- 33:28Speaker 1: all the Brewers fan. Maybe we can get someone from
- 33:30Speaker 1: the Brewers on and we can ask him how bias
- 33:32Speaker 1: Joe Davis wasn't that way, Adam Wayne Right now, I
- 33:35Speaker 1: will try to be biased for the Brewers and try
- 33:36Speaker 1: to even things out. But yes, we'll see how it
- 33:39Speaker 1: goes this weekend. Okay, should I let you handle this
- 33:43Speaker 1: since it's Miller time?
- 33:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I love a good Miller. Let's do it.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I mean, Ricky Romero. Every time I watch Bluebird Territory
- 33:50Speaker 1: has the Miller light had on? So I mean apparently
- 33:53Speaker 1: you guys love Miller Light. Yeah, I mean they have
- 33:56Speaker 1: it on so often.
- 33:57Speaker 3: I don't even get a chance to wear mine.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Love.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I'm more of the I'm more of the Hawaiian button
- 34:05Speaker 3: down guy.
- 34:06Speaker 2: When when when I wrap Miller Light on the show?
- 34:10Speaker 1: Are you really?
- 34:11Speaker 2: Oh?
- 34:12Speaker 4: Yeah? Oh?
- 34:13Speaker 2: The phone finger? The kids love the phone finger.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Kids love the phone finger. They don't even know what
- 34:17Speaker 4: it says, but they love the phone finger. They're like, eh,
- 34:20Speaker 4: number one, number one, foul tair tory number one.
- 34:26Speaker 1: My kids used my kids still from watching White Sox games.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Back in the day. They used to always have a
- 34:30Speaker 1: commercial for Miller Line, and it'd be like, it's Miller Time.
- 34:32Speaker 1: My kids never knew what it meant. They always just go, dad,
- 34:35Speaker 1: is it Miller time? Time? Is the kids?
- 34:41Speaker 4: Yes?
- 34:41Speaker 1: Exactly? Is it an off day? All right, let's get
- 34:44Speaker 1: to the six pack of Miller Lite. Questions? Where are
- 34:47Speaker 1: we starting right here?
- 34:48Speaker 2: All right?
- 34:49Speaker 1: KP, I'm assuming user for you? Yes? Are they for
- 34:53Speaker 1: all of us?
- 34:53Speaker 2: Just for KP? Oh we can go collaborative.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Okay, I'll let you guys answer I'll ask the question.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I'll ask the questions to you.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, you guys, hear the blue Jay. He's the
- 35:02Speaker 4: blue Jay Homer. Okay, true, he can sing, he can
- 35:05Speaker 4: sing the song.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Oh, all right, here we go. First question, is there
- 35:13Speaker 1: concern about the Blue Jays pitching depth without Jose Burrios
- 35:17Speaker 1: this season?
- 35:18Speaker 2: I think they got a little clarity.
- 35:20Speaker 3: I think he was kind of a guy they were
- 35:22Speaker 3: potentially banking on maybe coming back. Obviously they made a
- 35:27Speaker 3: tough decision and letting Eric Lower go. But yeah, I
- 35:30Speaker 3: think it's definitely a concern. I think Bieber is really
- 35:33Speaker 3: the guy that they're kind of banking on coming back.
- 35:35Speaker 3: But they do have a young kid, Spencer Miles, who
- 35:39Speaker 3: was a Rule five pick who's been kind of a
- 35:42Speaker 3: saving grace with him over his last three appearances. He's
- 35:45Speaker 3: kind of been the bull guy out of the bullpen,
- 35:47Speaker 3: and he's he's looked really really good.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Nice. I like it. Okay. Clarity is always good for
- 35:54Speaker 1: any team, KP. Clarity is always good. The next question
- 35:57Speaker 1: is the bla Jay's chase rate the root of their
- 36:00Speaker 1: offensive skid and where the heck is Vladimir Guerrero's Junior's power.
- 36:06Speaker 3: I think it has a big part in their offensive struggles. Obviously,
- 36:11Speaker 3: you guys are both catchers. When you have guys consistently
- 36:14Speaker 3: swinging out of the zone, there's no reason to go
- 36:16Speaker 3: in the zone. And hitting's already difficult enough. When you're
- 36:19Speaker 3: swinging at strikes, when you're chasing the pitches all around
- 36:23Speaker 3: the zone, it makes it really difficult. I think the
- 36:25Speaker 3: Blue Jays were at their best last year when teams
- 36:29Speaker 3: just kind of referred to them as being tough outs.
- 36:32Speaker 3: We all know we're going to fail in baseball. We're
- 36:33Speaker 3: going to make outs, but if you can make the
- 36:35Speaker 3: pitcher work, it has a long term effect. And Vladdie's just,
- 36:39Speaker 3: you know, been struggling. He's had this extended period of
- 36:43Speaker 3: struggle kind of dating back from their last road trip
- 36:46Speaker 3: starting in Minnesota. I think he had one extra base
- 36:49Speaker 3: hit on like a nine game road trip. He finally
- 36:52Speaker 3: hit a home run in Detroit the other day. Hitting
- 36:56Speaker 3: a lot of balls on the ground, on the grounds,
- 36:58Speaker 3: he's not really driving a lot of base I think
- 37:00Speaker 3: Blue Jay fans were really looking for Vladdie to kind
- 37:04Speaker 3: of take that next step. What we saw and what
- 37:06Speaker 3: we referred to as playoff Laddie where he really kind
- 37:09Speaker 3: of put that team on his back. But I think
- 37:12Speaker 3: holistically it's a big problem that they're chasing out of
- 37:15Speaker 3: the zone. They're not having really competitive at bats so
- 37:19Speaker 3: much so it feels like it falls on Vlattie and
- 37:21Speaker 3: maybe a George Springer's plate to feel like they need
- 37:24Speaker 3: to go up and have heroic at bats when their
- 37:28Speaker 3: success was just kind of the some of their parts
- 37:30Speaker 3: last year.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Before the show, we talked about this, and the behind
- 37:34Speaker 4: the scenes people put together a graphic for me that
- 37:36Speaker 4: is ridiculous and it's showing what I My question to
- 37:41Speaker 4: you is people say, and I know you were still
- 37:44Speaker 4: playing last year, KP, but people are saying, well, you
- 37:48Speaker 4: know this is the same team, this is how they
- 37:49Speaker 4: did it last year. Eh. Kind of this isn't really
- 37:54Speaker 4: how they did it last year. I mean, if you
- 37:56Speaker 4: look at the they're doing way less damage slugging than
- 37:59Speaker 4: they did last year. At this time. Their barrel percentages down,
- 38:02Speaker 4: they're hard hit percentages down. Their ex of a loss
- 38:06Speaker 4: is pretty close when it's down a little bit, but
- 38:09Speaker 4: they're making more contact, so that means the balls they're
- 38:11Speaker 4: putting in play are being hit weaker. And they're swinging
- 38:15Speaker 4: at more balls, so it means they're chasing more. So
- 38:18Speaker 4: while it looks like the same team, is this really
- 38:21Speaker 4: just was last year kind of an anomaly or obviously
- 38:26Speaker 4: any team can change it around, but it's not really
- 38:29Speaker 4: what they were doing last year. And I think maybe
- 38:31Speaker 4: Jays fans are in denial of that because they remembered
- 38:35Speaker 4: Game seven of the World Series.
- 38:38Speaker 3: No, I think what you're saying is fair. I think
- 38:41Speaker 3: the verdicts still out. I mean, I know we're a
- 38:43Speaker 3: fourth end of the season. We still got a long
- 38:45Speaker 3: way to go. But it's not a small sample size.
- 38:47Speaker 3: It is a pretty bulky sample size of maybe this
- 38:51Speaker 3: is who they are. I do think they have an
- 38:53Speaker 3: opportunity to turn it around. And I'm not going to
- 38:55Speaker 3: sit here and play the violin because I tried that
- 38:58Speaker 3: a couple days ago on X and I got killed
- 39:00Speaker 3: for it. Because there was a lot of teams out
- 39:02Speaker 3: there that are going through a ton of injuries too.
- 39:05Speaker 3: You think about the Atlanta Braves all the injuries they've
- 39:07Speaker 3: gone and it hasn't affected then. But the Blue Jays
- 39:10Speaker 3: have had a lot of injuries this year. Addison Barger
- 39:13Speaker 3: hasn't been in the lineup. Alejandro Kirk, probably their most
- 39:16Speaker 3: important player, is missed majority of the season.
- 39:19Speaker 2: You know Nathan Lucas, who was.
- 39:22Speaker 3: A huge surprise to a lot of people last year,
- 39:25Speaker 3: and he just brings a level of kind of professionalism
- 39:28Speaker 3: in his bats. And I know Bo Bashett isn't necessarily
- 39:31Speaker 3: getting off hasn't gotten off to the best start to
- 39:34Speaker 3: his Mets career.
- 39:37Speaker 2: But the one thing.
- 39:38Speaker 3: That Bo does, and even when you watch him when
- 39:40Speaker 3: he's struggling, and he brings a level of professional into
- 39:42Speaker 3: his at bats.
- 39:43Speaker 2: He's very disciplined.
- 39:44Speaker 3: He stays in the strike zone, he takes a ton
- 39:46Speaker 3: of pitches, and I think they're just really missing that.
- 39:49Speaker 2: And I think I think for everything that the Blue Jays.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Did last year in terms of you know, they they
- 39:55Speaker 3: got labeled this team that put the ball in play
- 39:58Speaker 3: a ton, right, They didn't strike out lot and that
- 40:00Speaker 3: was kind of their mo in the postseason. They did
- 40:02Speaker 3: slug too, But I think when you get back into
- 40:05Speaker 3: the strike zone a little bit more, and when you're
- 40:07Speaker 3: consistently out of the strike zone and you're putting the
- 40:09Speaker 3: ball in play, the percentages of you hitting it hard
- 40:12Speaker 3: are not very high. So they're having a lot of
- 40:14Speaker 3: weak contact. I think if they can reduce that chase rate,
- 40:17Speaker 3: get into the strike zone a little bit more, I
- 40:19Speaker 3: think you'll start to see the slug go up a
- 40:21Speaker 3: little bit more as well.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Let's run through these last few. We have four more questions.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Let's try to get to them quickly. Okay, before making
- 40:27Speaker 1: moniac joins us. One word to describe Kevin Gossam consistent.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Crat So I was easy. That was easy, Yeah, workse Okay,
- 40:40Speaker 4: I like it.
- 40:41Speaker 1: How do you guys prefer to spend to rain delay?
- 40:43Speaker 1: Treya Savage that he just sat in there and drank
- 40:45Speaker 1: Red Bull and watched the guys play cards. What'd you
- 40:48Speaker 1: guys like to do during rain delays? I like to
- 40:50Speaker 1: just eat. That's why I hated them, because I just
- 40:51Speaker 1: got fatter.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean when you're not an everyday player and
- 40:56Speaker 3: you're not in the lineup. It was definitely eight. When
- 40:58Speaker 3: I was in the lineup, it was like anxiety. I
- 41:01Speaker 3: just like kind of pace around. I'd pop my head
- 41:03Speaker 3: in the cage the weight room. I had hard time
- 41:05Speaker 3: just kind of sitting around when.
- 41:07Speaker 1: I wasn't playing.
- 41:07Speaker 4: It was tremendous. I was relaxed, maybe even in like
- 41:11Speaker 4: a second big league shower who knows. When I was playing,
- 41:14Speaker 4: I would keep my headphones on and I would just
- 41:17Speaker 4: I would spend that entire time like the game was
- 41:19Speaker 4: gonna start in thirty minutes. I couldn't check out isn't
- 41:24Speaker 4: the right word. But I couldn't like not be focused
- 41:27Speaker 4: and then oh, game thirty five minutes and then just
- 41:31Speaker 4: turn it right on. I couldn't do that.
- 41:33Speaker 1: All right, quick, we're gonna get a bonus question here.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Better for rain delay before the game starts or in
- 41:37Speaker 1: the middle. Harder to concentrate, I think before the game,
- 41:42Speaker 1: because you especially if you've gone through BP and everything
- 41:45Speaker 1: and then you're kind of on schedule, your in routine
- 41:48Speaker 1: and then you walk out to the dugout and the
- 41:51Speaker 1: tarps on, that's really hard.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I think. You know, in the middle of the game,
- 41:55Speaker 2: you could.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Kind of see it coming, you could see the clouds change,
- 41:58Speaker 3: maybe you know there's potentially rain.
- 42:00Speaker 2: I find that to be a little bit easier.
- 42:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely agree. We got a window. We got
- 42:08Speaker 4: a window.
- 42:09Speaker 3: More optimism for sure, more optimism in the middle of
- 42:13Speaker 3: the game.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you could, if you could bottle up
- 42:16Speaker 1: the energy. Always yelled at guys, you could bottle up
- 42:18Speaker 1: the energy when they get find out they're rained out,
- 42:20Speaker 1: and then you take as positive as everybody is, and
- 42:22Speaker 1: then as negative they are when they have to play
- 42:24Speaker 1: that split doubleheader at one and seven, how miserable they are, Like, remember, guys,
- 42:28Speaker 1: this energy, how happy you are we got rained out.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Now take it to that doubleheader six weeks from now
- 42:33Speaker 1: when you have two games, just.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Remember or when the rain out sounds great and then
- 42:37Speaker 3: you find out it's scheduled later in the year on
- 42:40Speaker 3: an off day and you got to go back to
- 42:42Speaker 3: the city. That that's a very bitter group, all right,
- 42:46Speaker 3: last one the KP This was really for you. I
- 42:49Speaker 3: guess crowds is a Blue Jay legend too. Is the
- 42:51Speaker 3: Al East out of reach for the Toronto Blue Jay
- 42:53Speaker 3: is currently eleven in a game, eleven and a half
- 42:55Speaker 3: games out right now?
- 42:57Speaker 2: I think so? I think. I think.
- 43:00Speaker 3: I think the staving grace for the Blue Jays at
- 43:01Speaker 3: this point of the season is that the American League,
- 43:05Speaker 3: if you take away the Yankees and what the Rays
- 43:07Speaker 3: have done is and the Guardians. You can't discredit the
- 43:09Speaker 3: Guardians too, but I think that wild card is a spot.
- 43:13Speaker 2: That they should be targeting.
- 43:14Speaker 3: I don't think eleven games at this point, I don't think.
- 43:18Speaker 3: I don't think they have the firepower right now to
- 43:21Speaker 3: overcome that. I think they should focus on staying relevant,
- 43:25Speaker 3: staying around that five hundred, get guys healthy, and then
- 43:27Speaker 3: make a push.
- 43:29Speaker 4: No chance. Players don't really care. They're going to try
- 43:32Speaker 4: to win every game. I get that part, but no,
- 43:35Speaker 4: Al East two good teams up top, too tough to
- 43:38Speaker 4: get to. Can still be a playoff team because American
- 43:40Speaker 4: League sucks, but al least out of reach.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Yeah, they ain't catching the White Sox. Good answer. Oh wait,
- 43:45Speaker 1: they're in a different division. Sorry, sorry, why not go
- 43:49Speaker 1: grab some Miller like today? Guys, if you like beer,
- 43:52Speaker 1: try and Miller lite because game time is Miller time
- 43:55Speaker 1: must be legal drinking age. Celebrate responsibly, all right, slaphands,
- 44:10Speaker 1: there it is. I was there for this. By the way,
- 44:11Speaker 1: Pope Leo finally received his autograph paulk in Erco Jersey.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I was there when they made this for him and
- 44:19Speaker 1: Paul signed it, and I just can't believe it took
- 44:21Speaker 1: almost a year for it to get to him. So
- 44:24Speaker 1: we have the Pope on our side. That's why the
- 44:25Speaker 1: White Sox are having a better year this year than
- 44:27Speaker 1: they had the last few years. And also, I'm just
- 44:30Speaker 1: gonna say this, I'm throwing it out there. There is
- 44:31Speaker 1: a chance, and it's a good chance, and I will
- 44:34Speaker 1: get to meet the Pope and when I do, I
- 44:36Speaker 1: will not rub it in your face, as I promise.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Where is this gonna happen.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna happen at this place called the Vatican. Kevin,
- 44:44Speaker 1: are you going?
- 44:45Speaker 2: I didn't know if he was coming to Chicago.
- 44:47Speaker 1: He's flying to Florida. He's flying in Florida just to
- 44:49Speaker 1: see me. He's flying to Florida just to hang out.
- 44:51Speaker 4: He just wants to talk to me. He might need
- 44:53Speaker 4: to pray. He might need to pray for Orlando, if
- 44:55Speaker 4: for them to get a team, because they got a
- 44:57Speaker 4: bunch of dreamers there. But shouldn't have been a Canerica
- 45:00Speaker 4: Jersey like when he was fourteen.
- 45:02Speaker 1: That's why he was four Because you know what, I'm
- 45:06Speaker 1: gonna take one to him for that. I'm gonna you
- 45:08Speaker 1: know what I'm gonna hand you know what else I
- 45:10Speaker 1: want to do. And I've said this and I'm gonna
- 45:12Speaker 1: do this. He was at Game one of the World
- 45:14Speaker 1: Series in two thousand and five, I have the last
- 45:17Speaker 1: out ball. It's hanging in my wall. I mean, it's
- 45:19Speaker 1: just sitting there. I'm gonna take it to him and
- 45:21Speaker 1: give it to him. It's better protected in the Vatican
- 45:23Speaker 1: than it is in my in the in the room
- 45:25Speaker 1: that Scott comes into every day and sneezes all over it.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Is there any chance, I know, I know the Pope's
- 45:32Speaker 3: kind of job description is to be a loving person.
- 45:35Speaker 3: But is there any chance that he hates the Cubs
- 45:39Speaker 3: as much as you do?
- 45:40Speaker 1: Yes, if you're a White Sox fan you don't like
- 45:43Speaker 1: the Cubs, you can't. You can't do both. You can't
- 45:47Speaker 1: do you live in Texas, now you can. You can't
- 45:50Speaker 1: be an A and M and a Longhorn fan, right,
- 45:51Speaker 1: You just.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Can't talk to him.
- 45:53Speaker 3: When you talk to him, do you think there's a
- 45:55Speaker 3: greater chance that you talk to him about the White
- 45:57Speaker 3: Sox or your hatred of the White Sox?
- 46:01Speaker 1: I mean the Cubs? The Cubs, the hatred of the
- 46:04Speaker 1: Cubs could and by the way, he also went to
- 46:06Speaker 1: Villanova Crats, so there is a Philly connection, So that
- 46:09Speaker 1: wouldn't be that far fetched. That was a Villanova. And
- 46:12Speaker 1: by the way, we'll definitely talk White Sox. We'll definitely
- 46:14Speaker 1: talk about him knowing my name, which he doesn't know
- 46:17Speaker 1: Kevin Blar is. He doesn't know Aircrats is, but he
- 46:20Speaker 1: knows who aj Prazinski is. And that's a big deal.
- 46:22Speaker 1: I mean in my world, my mom, I mean I
- 46:25Speaker 1: was raised Catholic. My mom still is heavy Catholic, goes
- 46:28Speaker 1: to church twice a week, works at the church every weekend.
- 46:31Speaker 1: I mean she is. She prayed so many rosaries for
- 46:34Speaker 1: me over my career. I mean she wore out every
- 46:36Speaker 1: time I go to somewhere, you know, Notre Dame or
- 46:39Speaker 1: the Vatican. I always buy her a new rosary because
- 46:41Speaker 1: she makes She's had to pray for me so much.
- 46:43Speaker 1: The beads are worn out. So uh, it's it's it
- 46:46Speaker 1: would be awesome if it happens, and I'm counting on it.
- 46:49Speaker 1: So you know, there's people out there that know who
- 46:51Speaker 1: they are. There's a lot of pressure on them.
- 46:53Speaker 4: For the podcast Crowd, we had shown two pictures. One
- 46:57Speaker 4: was Aji the Pope holding up Perzienski jerer. The other
- 47:01Speaker 4: one was the Pope holding my jersey. We don't know
- 47:05Speaker 4: if the Perzinsky one is fake, but we know the
- 47:07Speaker 4: one with my jersey's fake because if they were whole,
- 47:10Speaker 4: if he had one of my jerseys, it would have
- 47:12Speaker 4: been a shersey. There's certain players that are jersey people
- 47:15Speaker 4: like they sell Prazinski Pollard Blue Jay jerseys. I was like,
- 47:20Speaker 4: I was like, top seven jersey sales. Okay, so there's
- 47:23Speaker 4: a lot of jerseys out there of mine, did you guys?
- 47:27Speaker 1: By the way, yea, there it is. Yeah.
- 47:35Speaker 3: I forgot to tell you guys that that that happened
- 47:37Speaker 3: last week.
- 47:38Speaker 2: That's why I was busy. I couldn't come on.
- 47:40Speaker 4: I was the pope bless Yes, yes, I love it.
- 47:45Speaker 1: I love it. By the way, have you did you
- 47:47Speaker 1: guys ever switch numbers in the middle of a season
- 47:49Speaker 1: before we get out of here?
- 47:52Speaker 2: No, the one time I never liked on the same team,
- 47:54Speaker 2: on the same team, on.
- 47:56Speaker 1: The same team. So when I went to the Red
- 47:58Speaker 1: Sox of the Cardinals, they didn't asked me, which I
- 48:00Speaker 1: thought this was odd. They never asked me for a number.
- 48:03Speaker 1: They just gave me thirty five, and I was like,
- 48:06Speaker 1: I'm thirty five, okay, Frank Thomas whatever. Cool. Well, then
- 48:09Speaker 1: I said, hey, I found out twelve was open. I said, hey,
- 48:11Speaker 1: can I switch to twelve, and they're like, we don't know.
- 48:14Speaker 1: We got to check with major League Baseball. You're gonna
- 48:16Speaker 1: have to buy all the jerseys that they made for you.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And I'm like, I'm in Saint Louis. I've been here
- 48:21Speaker 1: for about three weeks. You think that a lot of
- 48:22Speaker 1: people are buying Prazinski jerseys in Saint Louis for those
- 48:26Speaker 1: three weeks? And I don't think so. And then they
- 48:28Speaker 1: called major League Baseball. They're like, yeah, you're good. There's
- 48:30Speaker 1: like one jersey out there that's your family in Saint Louis,
- 48:32Speaker 1: so I think you can afford to cover it. So
- 48:35Speaker 1: I didn't know that though, if you switch numbers, you
- 48:37Speaker 1: have to buy all the old jerseys, and said that
- 48:39Speaker 1: they try to discourage you from switching numbers.
- 48:43Speaker 4: That's weird.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Learn something new every day.
- 48:45Speaker 1: It was weird.
- 48:45Speaker 4: All the teams, all the teams I changed, not once,
- 48:48Speaker 4: and they asked me. They were like, they're not going
- 48:50Speaker 4: to be here very long. Wow, I never want that.
- 48:54Speaker 2: They never asked you, They never asked you a jersey number.
- 48:58Speaker 4: Team USA was the only only team that ever asked. Ironically,
- 49:02Speaker 4: I started with the Pirates is thirty eight. I ended
- 49:05Speaker 4: with the Yankees as thirty eight. But I had two
- 49:08Speaker 4: stints with the Yankees, and I was thirty six the
- 49:11Speaker 4: one time and thirty eight the other time. So but
- 49:13Speaker 4: ironically I got thirty eight both times.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Hey, but the great thing about thirty six and thirty
- 49:19Speaker 3: eight is if you just kind of squinch your eyes
- 49:21Speaker 3: a little bit, it looks like thirty eight.
- 49:25Speaker 4: It does, it does. You're right, you're right.
- 49:28Speaker 1: You don't have names. Yank, you don't have names. Crass,
- 49:32Speaker 1: what's your hat? Real quick.
- 49:37Speaker 4: Dragons, absolute absolute domination of the padres.
- 49:41Speaker 1: No.
- 49:41Speaker 4: Actually it was just the one that was sitting on
- 49:43Speaker 4: my table today, so I had no actually actually didn't.
- 49:46Speaker 4: It didn't mesh with my WBC hat. My shirt didn't
- 49:50Speaker 4: match the WBC hat.
- 49:51Speaker 1: That I had on.
- 49:52Speaker 4: So I'm gonna have to wear that one again. And
