- 0:10Speaker 1: It's a Yacht Rock Wednesday here on Sports Radio AM
- 0:13Speaker 1: 13 Under the Zone. That particular piece from the immortal
- 0:17Speaker 1: Chuck Mangione was the theme from Cannonball Run.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Now, Mississippi State Bulldogs. They're not going to make a
- 0:25Speaker 2: run over to Austin.
- 0:25Speaker 1: They're going to make a flight over to Austin to
- 0:28Speaker 1: play Saturday night's 6.30 game. One of my favorites, great
- 0:33Speaker 1: guy and outstanding play-by-play voice, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who
- 0:36Speaker 1: we learned back in August is also a fan of
- 0:39Speaker 1: Yacht Rock Radio. That's our old friend, Neal Price. I
- 0:43Speaker 1: did remember that correctly, didn't I, Neal?
- 0:45Speaker 2: You did.
- 0:45Speaker 3: And let me ask you this question. So you mentioned
- 0:48Speaker 3: Chuck Mangione there.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:50Speaker 3: So that was the theme of the Cannonball Run. There's
- 0:52Speaker 3: an alternate theme to that movie. Do you know who
- 0:55Speaker 3: recorded that song, words and music? No.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Help me.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Ray Stevens.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:01Speaker 2: As in the streak and everything is beautiful and all
- 1:05Speaker 2: that stuff. Yep.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Look that one up at some point. And what a
- 1:08Speaker 3: great movie, by the way. The world needs more Cannonball
- 1:11Speaker 3: Run and Smokey and the Bandit.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We need more fun, mindless... Yes.
- 1:16Speaker 3: We need more fun, mindless movies.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We do.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'm with you. Especially in today's day in society. I
- 1:24Speaker 1: totally agree with you. Hey, I appreciate you doing this.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And I know.
- 1:30Speaker 1: What it really started off was a pretty exciting start
- 1:32Speaker 1: with the 4-0 start and a really impressive road win
- 1:36Speaker 1: up in Minneapolis and all that stuff. And I know
- 1:38Speaker 1: it's taken an unfortunate turn because of the rash of injuries.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Everybody's got injuries, but... And Texas is having to deal
- 1:45Speaker 1: with it now with Colin Simmons and then losing Trevor
- 1:49Speaker 1: Goosby for the entire rest of the regular season, their
- 1:51Speaker 1: best offensive lineman.
- 1:52Speaker 2: But when you lose your number one quarterback, when you.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Lose a guy of the talent skill of Kamario Taylor,
- 1:59Speaker 1: you know you've really taken a blow. And so I
- 2:02Speaker 1: was not surprised at all, Neal, and I bet you
- 2:04Speaker 1: weren't either, on the SEC teleconference to hear reporters asking
- 2:08Speaker 1: Jeff Levy how the team is handling this.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Because that's quite a blow, isn't it? Yeah, it's huge.
- 2:14Speaker 3: And I mean, it doesn't matter if you're talking about
- 2:16Speaker 3: college football, you're talking about the NFL, if you're talking
- 2:19Speaker 3: about your favorite high school team. I mean, that is
- 2:21Speaker 3: the one position where it's just tough to overcome an injury.
- 2:27Speaker 3: It really is because you give so many reps in
- 2:30Speaker 3: practice week in and week out to that one guy
- 2:34Speaker 3: because that's who's going to have to be your primary
- 2:36Speaker 3: decision maker. Now, the locker room's had some time, I think,
- 2:39Speaker 3: to prepare for this. The finality of it, sure, that's
- 2:42Speaker 3: going to sting. But they didn't have Camario at LSU.
- 2:46Speaker 3: They didn't have Fluff Bothwell. They're starting running back at LSU.
- 2:50Speaker 3: And they had to find a way. So I think
- 2:52Speaker 3: just what I've been around the team, the attitude's good.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I think they're going to embrace this mentality of next
- 2:59Speaker 3: man up. And they kind of know what they're getting
- 3:01Speaker 3: from with Billy Puckett if he winds up winning this
- 3:05Speaker 3: battle this week with A.J.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Swan.
- 3:07Speaker 3: You know, I don't think that they have a good
- 3:10Speaker 3: idea of what A.J. Swan could be because they just
- 3:13Speaker 3: haven't seen enough body of work yet because he was
- 3:17Speaker 3: banged up in the spring and then came back out
- 3:19Speaker 3: in training camp in August and was banged up again.
- 3:22Speaker 3: So I don't know if anybody has a great idea
- 3:25Speaker 3: other than what they saw at Vanderbilt, what they saw
- 3:28Speaker 3: at LSU, what they saw at Appalachian State, but I
- 3:31Speaker 3: don't know they have a great idea of what they're
- 3:33Speaker 3: getting there, but they do know they at least have
- 3:36Speaker 3: one person in that room that if he can win
- 3:38Speaker 3: the job this week, has been in an SEC game
- 3:42Speaker 3: and understands kind of how it's different compared to other
- 3:45Speaker 3: games that you play in college football.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So in other words, what you're saying, if Will Muschamp
- 3:51Speaker 1: and the defensive staff wanted to really do the deep
- 3:55Speaker 1: dive and hunker down on A.J. Swann, they got to
- 3:57Speaker 1: look at him suiting up for the Appalachian State Mountaineers, right?
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where he started the most games. I think
- 4:05Speaker 3: six starts, seven games played before the injury that wound
- 4:09Speaker 3: up sidelining him the rest of his career there and
- 4:11Speaker 3: ultimately opened the door for him to transfer to Starkville
- 4:14Speaker 3: in January of this year. But yeah, you'd have to
- 4:17Speaker 3: go back to find some time because he hasn't played
- 4:20Speaker 3: in a game since he's been here. And I know
- 4:22Speaker 3: that they're excited, the staff is, about the potential he
- 4:26Speaker 3: could have. That's the reason they wanted him here is
- 4:28Speaker 3: because he had that depth of experience. But When you
- 4:32Speaker 3: haven't been in a situation where you got live reps,
- 4:36Speaker 3: there's an adjustment. I don't care how many times you played.
- 4:38Speaker 3: And that's the thing. If he comes out of this
- 4:40Speaker 3: thing as a winner this week with Billy Puckett, then
- 4:42Speaker 3: he's going to have to adjust. And if it's Billy,
- 4:45Speaker 3: he's going to have to continue to learn that the
- 4:47Speaker 3: game is much faster than it comes to you in
- 4:50Speaker 3: practice week in and week out.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and Sark mentioned on the SEC teleconference that whoever
- 4:56Speaker 1: was taking the snaps, he said it's still Jeff Levy's system.
- 5:00Speaker 1: and the speed on the edges and everything else that
- 5:02Speaker 1: they do. So, you know, depending, you know, however folks
- 5:07Speaker 1: want to look at the individual skill sets of those
- 5:09Speaker 1: two guys, you know, they're still operating within the system,
- 5:13Speaker 1: aren't they? And trying to make this up-tempo offense really
- 5:18Speaker 1: work for Coach Levy.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and they didn't change a ton with regard to
- 5:23Speaker 3: their operation against Oklahoma last week. You know, they want
- 5:27Speaker 3: to play fast. I don't know if they're going to
- 5:28Speaker 3: snap it every time with somewhere between 27 and 30
- 5:33Speaker 3: on the play clock, but they're not going to sub
- 5:36Speaker 3: a ton. They're going to force defenses to keep those
- 5:38Speaker 3: same personnel groupings on the field as much as they can.
- 5:42Speaker 3: And I think the biggest change now, Craig, is that
- 5:46Speaker 3: the run game, which has always been important, becomes even
- 5:49Speaker 3: more so now for Mississippi State because they've got to
- 5:52Speaker 3: lean on Fluff Bothwell and they've got to lean on
- 5:55Speaker 3: Colin Wilson and that offensive line to try and put
- 5:58Speaker 3: them in favorable situations on third down against a really
- 6:02Speaker 3: good pass rush to try and keep Texas honest defensively.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I love the story you told me. I'm going
- 6:09Speaker 2: to let you tell it now.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I'll tell it again on the air on Saturday about
- 6:15Speaker 1: Billy Puckett and why he's called Billy, even though that's
- 6:19Speaker 1: not his name.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so he's not a very big guy. So when
- 6:23Speaker 3: I tell this story, everybody's going to think they're getting
- 6:25Speaker 3: a different physical specimen than what could walk out there
- 6:28Speaker 3: on Saturday. But Parker Puckett, Parker Billy Puckett played on
- 6:34Speaker 3: a little league baseball team growing up that was full
- 6:37Speaker 3: of guys named Parker. So everybody had to have a
- 6:40Speaker 3: nickname of some kind to kind of separate themselves. So
- 6:43Speaker 3: Parker's dad suggested to his coach, hey, call him Billy. Billy, yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 3: what's that got to do with anything? Well, he eats
- 6:49Speaker 3: like a Billy goat. So he said, may as well
- 6:51Speaker 3: just call him Billy. And that's where it stuck. So
- 6:54Speaker 3: he's been Billy Puckett, you know, ever since. And listen,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I'll give him this. he is fearless. You know, here's
- 7:00Speaker 3: a guy who came in from Jackson Prep in the
- 7:03Speaker 3: state capitol, played for a really successful private school program
- 7:08Speaker 3: in this state, won a state title, and he gets
- 7:11Speaker 3: thrown into the lion's den at LSU, one of the
- 7:14Speaker 3: toughest places, I think, to play in this league, one
- 7:17Speaker 3: of the toughest places to play in America, and just
- 7:19Speaker 3: goes out there and says, sure, yeah, let's go. You know,
- 7:23Speaker 3: I think if you're him, and for that fact, if
- 7:25Speaker 3: it's A.J. Swann, What do you have to lose? Go
- 7:28Speaker 3: out there and let it rip and just see what happens.
- 7:30Speaker 3: And if you get in rhythm and you get some confidence,
- 7:33Speaker 3: then build on it.
- 7:36Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I don't know that anybody in the country expects these
- 7:39Speaker 3: guys to be Camario Taylor. That'd be incredibly unfair if
- 7:42Speaker 3: they did. But I think they just need to go
- 7:44Speaker 3: out and play fast and loose and see if they
- 7:46Speaker 3: can't make something happen.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Well, one guy I know you had to have been
- 7:50Speaker 1: impressed with, and I saw him as a converse Judson
- 7:53Speaker 1: Rocket in high school. And of course, he transferred and
- 7:56Speaker 1: we saw him playing for Georgia. And that's Anthony Evans
- 7:59Speaker 1: and what he's been able to do for you.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Yeah. And, you know, the fact that somehow, since he
- 8:05Speaker 3: has become the number one guy in that wide receiver room,
- 8:08Speaker 3: the fact that he is at the top of the
- 8:11Speaker 3: scouting report for everybody and somehow still finds a way
- 8:13Speaker 3: to be productive, I think speaks volumes about his work ethic.
- 8:17Speaker 3: And his want to, he came into the year, Craig,
- 8:21Speaker 3: and was incredibly confident and was asked in the final
- 8:26Speaker 3: weeks of camp, what's your goal for this year? And
- 8:30Speaker 3: he said, personally, I want to break Brennan Thompson's single
- 8:34Speaker 3: season receiving record. He's well over halfway there. He is
- 8:39Speaker 3: up among the tops in the league in terms of
- 8:41Speaker 3: yards per catch. He's up among the tops in the
- 8:43Speaker 3: league with regard to receiving yards. And he has been
- 8:47Speaker 3: a guy who's drawn a lot of attention every week,
- 8:49Speaker 3: and he's had to do it the tough way, playing
- 8:51Speaker 3: in the slot, making contested catches over the middle or
- 8:54Speaker 3: taking shots after you make catches. But he finds ways
- 8:57Speaker 3: to get yards after contact. He's sure-handed. He has been fantastic.
- 9:03Speaker 3: So he's an easy guy to root for. in that
- 9:06Speaker 3: way because you know what he's putting into it week
- 9:08Speaker 3: in and week out.
- 9:09Speaker 1: You brought up Fluff Bothwell, and we saw him last year,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and he had been banged up some, and he came
- 9:14Speaker 1: in and still did some good things, obviously, in that ballgame,
- 9:17Speaker 1: the overtime game a year ago. He's listed as 5'10
- 9:21Speaker 1: and 230, and that would tend people to believe, man,
- 9:27Speaker 1: he's like a truck. Is that an accurate way to
- 9:31Speaker 1: describe him?
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a bowling ball. And how Jeff Lebby has
- 9:35Speaker 3: described him is he's the guy on state's offense who
- 9:38Speaker 3: helps dictate the terms of the fist fight. It's that
- 9:41Speaker 3: kind of toughness with the way that they expect him
- 9:44Speaker 3: to run the ball. Last week, when he got back
- 9:47Speaker 3: in the game, although on a limited number of snaps
- 9:51Speaker 3: against Oklahoma, you could see that entire offense pick up.
- 9:55Speaker 3: You could see that offensive line pick up when he
- 9:58Speaker 3: came in the game and Cannon Boone who's been the
- 10:01Speaker 3: anchor of State's O-line at center he has said as
- 10:04Speaker 3: much that when Fluff's in the game that those guys
- 10:07Speaker 3: want to block harder they want to play better because
- 10:09Speaker 3: they know how hard he's going to run the ball
- 10:11Speaker 3: so they want to make sure that they help him
- 10:12Speaker 3: maximize every yard that he can get so Yeah, he
- 10:16Speaker 3: is a physical back, but when he gets in the
- 10:18Speaker 3: open field, he's got to burst. So clearly the number
- 10:22Speaker 3: one guy in that room and a guy that is
- 10:25Speaker 3: so much more important now that State doesn't have Kamario
- 10:29Speaker 3: Taylor moving forward.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Talking about the Mississippi State Bulldogs with their play-by-play voice,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Neil Price here on 13 Under the Zone. Let me
- 10:36Speaker 1: shift over to the defense and pick up where we
- 10:37Speaker 1: left off about injuries, right? Because there's been a passel
- 10:41Speaker 1: of those that have really affected the Bulldogs, starting on
- 10:43Speaker 1: the defensive.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Front, right? Yeah. And, you know, Jeff Lebby kind of
- 10:47Speaker 3: explained it to me this way last week. And I
- 10:49Speaker 3: don't know that I'd ever really thought about drawing this comparison.
- 10:52Speaker 3: But once he did, the light came on for me.
- 10:55Speaker 3: So in baseball, you want to be good up the
- 10:57Speaker 3: middle defensively, right? You want a great catcher. You want
- 11:00Speaker 3: two great middle infielders. You want a great center fielder.
- 11:03Speaker 3: State's down two interior defensive linemen for the year. It's
- 11:07Speaker 3: down at starting middle linebacker, the green dot guy who
- 11:10Speaker 3: gets the call, gets your defense organized. And last week
- 11:14Speaker 3: did not have its starting nickelback, Isaac Smith, who's played
- 11:17Speaker 3: a ton of football here over the last four years. Well,
- 11:21Speaker 3: when you look at that, it's four guys compared to
- 11:25Speaker 3: however many they've got listed on that side of the ball,
- 11:27Speaker 3: but four really important ones. And now you're leaning on
- 11:31Speaker 3: a lot of young people or new people to to
- 11:34Speaker 3: come in and get your defense organized. I think that
- 11:37Speaker 3: showed up some last week with some of the big plays,
- 11:40Speaker 3: the bust that happened in the game against Oklahoma that
- 11:43Speaker 3: allowed Isaiah Cetania to have such a big day for
- 11:46Speaker 3: the Sooners. So they've got to find a way, hopefully,
- 11:50Speaker 3: to get Isaac Smith back this week. And if they do,
- 11:52Speaker 3: that gives them a leader at the back who can
- 11:55Speaker 3: at least help them get lined up where they need
- 11:57Speaker 3: to be, communicate, do all the things that don't always
- 12:00Speaker 3: show up with regard to what happens physically between the lines.
- 12:05Speaker 3: And then Daylon Evans is getting healthier. He was limited
- 12:08Speaker 3: by snaps last week, but a guy that's been helping
- 12:10Speaker 3: him out, Jere Bledsoe, has been really good in the
- 12:13Speaker 3: interior of that defensive line. And they've got to have
- 12:15Speaker 3: big performances from Williams and from Whitson out on the
- 12:19Speaker 3: edge to try and see if they can move Arch
- 12:21Speaker 3: Manning off the spot a little bit and force him
- 12:23Speaker 3: into trying to make a mistake.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I was going to ask you about DeRay Bledsoe. I'm
- 12:27Speaker 1: sure Longhorn fans go, oh, yeah, I remember him. He
- 12:28Speaker 1: played in Texas. He was kind of an anomaly because,
- 12:33Speaker 1: you know, it's not often that Texas will take a
- 12:35Speaker 1: player from a 3A school. And yet he was all
- 12:38Speaker 1: world when he played at Marlin there in the Super Centex.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And then, you know, got caught in the numbers game
- 12:43Speaker 1: and things like that. But it looks like he's really
- 12:45Speaker 1: found his footing and has done really well there for
- 12:48Speaker 1: the Bulldogs.
- 12:49Speaker 3: You can see his athleticism. You can see why he
- 12:52Speaker 3: was a high-level recruit even to come out of a
- 12:54Speaker 3: smaller school. Travion Williams, one of his teammates who's on
- 12:58Speaker 3: the shelf for the rest of the year, calls him
- 13:00Speaker 3: the rubber band man because of the way he's able
- 13:02Speaker 3: to move and the things he can do. He's on
- 13:05Speaker 3: Bruce Feldman's freaks list because of the combo of speed
- 13:08Speaker 3: and agility that he's got. playing in the interior line.
- 13:11Speaker 3: He's been a huge piece for State, and his role
- 13:13Speaker 3: certainly has become more magnified, too, with all the injuries.
- 13:17Speaker 3: He's playing more snaps maybe than he should be at
- 13:19Speaker 3: this point with regard to not being able to get
- 13:22Speaker 3: a break. But I know they're glad to have him,
- 13:25Speaker 3: and certainly a guy who has shown up in a big,
- 13:28Speaker 3: big way and has stepped up as a leader on
- 13:30Speaker 3: that defensive front for State.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Talking about the Bulldogs here with Neil Price. I got
- 13:36Speaker 1: to get you to tell another nickname story. The middle linebacker,
- 13:40Speaker 1: you know, I'm looking at the, I'm putting together the
- 13:42Speaker 1: broadcast charts and I look and I see the middle linebacker,
- 13:44Speaker 1: the Mike linebacker. His last name is Forrest. His first name, Fatt, F-A-T-T, Fatt.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I thought, is that really his name? And you said
- 13:53Speaker 1: there's a story behind that.
- 13:55Speaker 3: There is. All the great names typically have a story,
- 13:58Speaker 3: don't they? Fatt Forrest's name, His given name is Frederick.
- 14:04Speaker 3: And the story or the legend is that he was
- 14:08Speaker 3: always fat. He was a chunky kid growing up and
- 14:13Speaker 3: everybody in the family called him fat. And he went
- 14:16Speaker 3: to school and they asked if Frederick Forrest was present.
- 14:21Speaker 3: And he just kind of sat there. And, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 3: they finally, they come over and say, that's you, you're Frederick. No,
- 14:28Speaker 3: I'm fat.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I'm fat.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I'm not Frederick. I'm fat Forrest, not Frederick Forrest. But
- 14:32Speaker 3: that's his name. And I thought, you know, what a
- 14:34Speaker 3: great story. But here's a guy too that, you know,
- 14:37Speaker 3: came in here and was limited last year. They kept
- 14:40Speaker 3: the red shirt on him. So he only got to
- 14:42Speaker 3: play in four games last season. And then with Zachary
- 14:46Speaker 3: Tillman kind of being in and out at linebacker this
- 14:49Speaker 3: year with the injuries and stuff that's just lingered since
- 14:52Speaker 3: training camp, he's had to play more as guys have
- 14:55Speaker 3: gotten hurt. And he's coming off a 10 tackle game
- 14:58Speaker 3: against Oklahoma season high for him last week. And I
- 15:01Speaker 3: think it's starting to figure it out. You can see
- 15:03Speaker 3: the light come on, but still really, really raw with
- 15:07Speaker 3: regard to playing at this level. So there's some trial
- 15:10Speaker 3: by fire in there, too. But he and Tyler Lockhart
- 15:13Speaker 3: are the two guys who play the bulk of the
- 15:15Speaker 3: snaps at linebacker right now. And both those guys played
- 15:18Speaker 3: together at Winona High School just out the road about
- 15:22Speaker 3: an hour, hour and 15 minutes from Starkville. and won
- 15:25Speaker 3: a state championship together back in 2023. So it's been
- 15:29Speaker 3: a pretty cool story to see the two of them
- 15:31Speaker 3: together and now trying to find some success here at
- 15:34Speaker 3: the highest level of college football.
- 15:36Speaker 1: One more thing I wanted to ask you on the
- 15:39Speaker 1: SEC teleconference today, Jeff Levy said we still have things
- 15:43Speaker 1: to play for. And he didn't necessarily refer to the
- 15:46Speaker 1: conference championship. Who knows who's going to be playing in
- 15:48Speaker 1: the conference championship at this point right now? I think
- 15:51Speaker 1: I saw a thing on the athletics said there could
- 15:53Speaker 1: be a five or six way tie or with schools
- 15:57Speaker 1: that are nine and three overall. And what's the playoff
- 16:00Speaker 1: committee going to do if that happens? You know that
- 16:01Speaker 1: all of that kind of business.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Kentucky's the frontrunner, by the way.
- 16:04Speaker 2: How about that? How about that? You're on stomping grounds.
- 16:07Speaker 2: How about that?
- 16:07Speaker 3: How about that?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 1: But he made the point in that there's still things
- 16:13Speaker 1: to play for. You look at the schedule. I think
- 16:17Speaker 1: all of the games certainly are winnable games for them.
- 16:19Speaker 1: So is the goal is each game.
- 16:22Speaker 2: As it comes?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Is it, hey, we can get on a roll here, A,
- 16:26Speaker 1: get bowl eligible, and B, see where it leads us
- 16:28Speaker 1: from there? Is there kind of a thought process on–
- 16:31Speaker 1: on what is indeed still out there for the Bulldogs.
- 16:34Speaker 3: I'm sure there is, but being around Jeff Lebby for
- 16:38Speaker 3: going on three years now, I will tell you if
- 16:40Speaker 3: you ask him, he will say the most important thing
- 16:43Speaker 3: for Mississippi State this week is Texas. That's the thing
- 16:46Speaker 3: that's immediately in front of him. It's the most important
- 16:49Speaker 3: game because it's the next game. Now, I'm not a coach.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I can look at it from a little bit wider
- 16:55Speaker 3: lens here. I think that given the situation that State's
- 16:59Speaker 3: been in with injuries on both sides of the ball,
- 17:03Speaker 3: if it can find a way to win two more
- 17:05Speaker 3: games coming down the stretch, be bowl eligible, again, if
- 17:10Speaker 3: it can sort out this quarterback situation and get one
- 17:14Speaker 3: of these two backup guys in a position where they
- 17:17Speaker 3: feel like they have a serviceable quarterback, then I think
- 17:21Speaker 3: there's a lot on the table, bowl eligibility being one,
- 17:24Speaker 3: and then just having a successful finish. Because after today,
- 17:28Speaker 3: or after Saturday, State plays three of its final four
- 17:32Speaker 3: games at home. They're home basically, and they don't leave
- 17:34Speaker 3: the state of Mississippi in the month of November. So
- 17:37Speaker 3: the schedule lines up in such a way that at
- 17:40Speaker 3: least you know you're sleeping in your own bed, you're
- 17:42Speaker 3: playing in front of your own folks, and you feel
- 17:45Speaker 3: like it gives you a little added edge or opportunity
- 17:49Speaker 3: to find success. So I think there's absolutely plenty to
- 17:53Speaker 3: play for. There's absolutely that. And they went to a
- 17:56Speaker 3: bowl game last year with five wins. If they can
- 17:59Speaker 3: find a way to earn their way in with six
- 18:01Speaker 3: this year and you have any kind of, if you
- 18:05Speaker 3: can look at it through any kind of objective lens
- 18:08Speaker 3: and see what they've gone through, if they get into
- 18:11Speaker 3: a bowl, earn their way into a bowl game, I
- 18:13Speaker 3: think that's a huge accomplishment for this team.
- 18:16Speaker 2: No doubt about it.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Hey, I appreciate you taking the time to do it,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and I'll look forward to seeing you on Saturday. We'll
- 18:24Speaker 1: help you out any way we can with regard to
- 18:26Speaker 1: your positioning in the broadcast booth, not the least of
- 18:30Speaker 1: which the fact is they have good tacos come in
- 18:33Speaker 1: from Taco Deli, so.
- 18:34Speaker 2: There's that, you know.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Hey, listen, anytime we come to Texas, we eat good.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I've not had a bad meal yet. So I'll look
- 18:44Speaker 3: forward to that. It's always good talking to you. I
- 18:46Speaker 3: always look forward to being on your show because I
- 18:48Speaker 3: never know what you're going to throw at me musically.
- 18:50Speaker 3: And you didn't disappoint today. Uh, so, uh, maybe we
- 18:54Speaker 3: can trade some more stories about that before the game
- 18:56Speaker 3: gets going on.
- 18:57Speaker 2: We'll do that.
- 18:58Speaker 1: And then, and then I'll have you back on during
- 18:59Speaker 1: basketball season. We'll try to, we'll try to, uh, throw
- 19:03Speaker 1: you something, uh, throw you a curve ball on that too.
- 19:05Speaker 3: It's like Johnny Carson and Doc Severinsen. We're playing stump
- 19:08Speaker 3: the band. That's what we're doing.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Except I'm being more like Tommy Newman, you know, Johnny Carson,
- 19:13Speaker 1: what's a Tommy Newman was in for, uh, was in
- 19:16Speaker 1: for Doc Severinsen. And he goes, he goes, uh, you know, uh,
- 19:19Speaker 1: Tommy Newman's in, uh, tonight. And, uh, how would you
- 19:22Speaker 1: describe Tommy? Boring is a good word, that sort of thing.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Doc Severinsen would be out there in a TV test
- 19:31Speaker 3: pattern suit, and on the nights that he was off,
- 19:34Speaker 3: Tommy Newsome would show up, and Tommy was about as
- 19:36Speaker 3: white bread as it got. I mean, it was a
- 19:38Speaker 3: blue blazer, a tie, and a pair of khaki slacks,
- 19:40Speaker 3: but he could play a mean saxophone.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he could.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Hey, Neil, I appreciate it, fella, and I look forward
- 19:46Speaker 1: to seeing you on Saturday.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Thanks for joining me.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Thanks, Craig.
- 19:49Speaker 2: All right, that's neil price play-by-play
- 19:51Speaker 1: Voice of the mississippi state bulldogs up next we bring
- 19:54Speaker 1: you inconceivable here on a wednesday afternoon a yacht rock
- 19:57Speaker 1: wednesday on sports radio am 13 under the zone and
