- 0:01Andrea: Today we are reviewing True Justice Family Ties.
- 0:05Eric: Was justice served or was it guilty of wasting our time?
- 0:08Eric: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark Channel.
- 0:19Andrea: Hello, I'm Andrea.
- 0:21Eric: And I'm Eric, and this is Hallmark Mysteries and More.
- 0:25Andrea: All right.
- 0:26Andrea: So today our description of the movie.
- 0:28Andrea: It's not very long.
- 0:29Andrea: It is a law school student and her friends set out to prove her brother's innocence.
- 0:36Andrea: But the only way to clear his name is by finding the real killer, and this movie starred Catherine McNamara Markianne Tarsouk might have butchered that Nikki Deloach and Benjamin Ayers.
- 0:50Eric: Haven't heard of any of them.
- 0:54Andrea: I mean half of them have been on regular Hallmark movies quite often.
- 0:58Eric: Yes, all right, well, let's get into it.
- 1:01Eric: So you know my theory though, on short descriptions tend to be better movies, long descriptions tend to be bad.
- 1:08Eric: We talked about that a lot about the holidays, so you know I didn't go back and double check it, but we have a short description.
- 1:15Eric: So I'm feeling optimistic here and we have been battling a little bit, but I think we're a little agreement today.
- 1:22Eric: So, andrea, overall on a scale of one to five, one being the worst, don't want to ever see it.
- 1:30Eric: This is trash.
- 1:31Eric: We are guilty of wasting our time.
- 1:33Eric: Or five justice was served.
- 1:35Eric: What do you give True justice?
- 1:37Eric: Family ties?
- 1:39Andrea: Okay, so I watched this movie now about three times.
- 1:42Andrea: Oh, I know the first time.
- 1:45Andrea: Well, the first time I only watched the first hour and then I shut it off because I wasn't a big fan of the first hour and I heard that actually for many people in the DMs.
- 1:53Andrea: So I decided, okay, let me try it again the next day.
- 1:56Andrea: And I loved it.
- 1:58Andrea: The second hour for me is when the movie really picked up.
- 2:01Andrea: So the first half I would say a three, second half would be like a five, so it kind of comes out as a four in the end for me.
- 2:10Eric: And did that.
- 2:10Eric: Even when you watched it again, did it still have you think the slow or did you appreciate the beginning a little more?
- 2:16Andrea: on your second or third, whatever, I will say the third time, I appreciated it more as a whole.
- 2:22Andrea: I think this is a struggle, for any new mystery series is getting behind the characters, getting to know the characters, and I think that was probably the struggle for me.
- 2:32Eric: That's why we need three.
- 2:33Andrea: Right and well, even to watch it three times, because that also helped me like okay, I'm starting to develop like an understanding of the characters.
- 2:39Andrea: I'm enjoying certain characters more than I did that first viewing.
- 2:44Andrea: I'm invested more into their lives, which I think for an ensemble cast like this was, is the whole goal of these type of movies.
- 2:52Eric: All right, what did I?
- 2:53Eric: I landed in the same number of four I will say two when I started watching it, because we've we, you know, we've been talking to the producer, we've talked to a lot of the people and trying to get really behind it and get people excited for this.
- 3:07Eric: And I agree, I thought it started out a little.
- 3:10Eric: Now it didn't last an hour, but I do think it started out a little slow and I'm like, oh no, oh no.
- 3:15Eric: I'm going to feel bad having to give this a just marginal review.
- 3:18Eric: But it's mostly just because Marcus the character, I didn't like the brother there and it kind of was ruining the beginning of the movie for me, because I just found him annoying and I wanted him to stay in jail and I would be like leave him.
- 3:32Eric: But once they got into the ensemble cast, I was really good.
- 3:37Eric: So for me I want to say it's the first like 20 minutes I was like a little bit, oh no, but then I got into it.
- 3:43Eric: So I give it a solid, solid four.
- 3:48Andrea: Yeah, I would totally agree with you with the brother I felt the same way.
- 3:51Andrea: Those first it was probably about the first 50 minutes was the piece for me where it finally turned after that 50 minute mark.
- 3:58Andrea: But that brother there was quite a few scenes in those, you know, first 50 minutes with him and I also felt the same.
- 4:05Andrea: It felt like he was acting like he was in jail and it didn't feel like it quite clicked the performance and so it was a little little rough or it kind of took you out of the movie.
- 4:17Eric: I went back and I was like, ok, maybe this is his first acting gig kind of thing, because you know secondary character, homarx, bendis, money and the others, but he's been in a few things.
- 4:26Eric: So when he was with with, with that Catherine there at the beginning, casey, and she's like talking to him, it was just such a contrast in acting ability.
- 4:39Eric: Like you said, he was clearly looked like he was in a high school play and she I you know love classified, I thought was a great movie.
- 4:49Eric: I really enjoyed that movie and that's, I'll be honest, that's like my real exposure to Catherine Mcmurder.
- 4:54Eric: But after watching this I'm like that girl can act.
- 4:57Eric: She, she was, she was good throughout the movie.
- 5:01Eric: I just I love the way she was talking to him but, like I said, she should have been saying sorry, marcus, I can't do anything for you, you're in jail.
- 5:10Eric: We're going to go on, live Our Life and have a good time down at the bar.
- 5:14Andrea: But all right.
- 5:16Eric: But all right, so let's scoot a little bit more into the mystery portion of our mystery minute.
- 5:23Eric: Yeah, how did the mystery?
- 5:25Andrea: Well, we should also just say there are new segments.
- 5:27Andrea: So if people are longtime listeners, like we're doing some new segments, which this is our first time with these new segments, so let us know how they work for you, because we're kind of mixing things up and we have a few different segments that Eric and Sydney didn't have before.
- 5:41Andrea: So if you're like, oh, this is a little different, it is.
- 5:44Eric: We're trying something different.
- 5:45Eric: We're trying to also increase the pace a little bit.
- 5:48Eric: So we'll see if people like that, whether or not they want to hear a strewn on and on.
- 5:51Eric: But okay, yes, so we're going into mystery minute, where this is where we're going to talk about the twists and turns and the mystery.
- 5:57Eric: Did it hit, did it miss, and stuff.
- 5:59Eric: So we talked, we liked the overall movie.
- 6:02Eric: How about the mystery?
- 6:03Eric: Did it hit for you?
- 6:05Andrea: Yeah.
- 6:05Andrea: So spoiler alert, if you are listening and you have not watched, I am going to spoil something here.
- 6:10Andrea: So I actually really enjoyed the two different killers.
- 6:14Andrea: I thought that was a great twist from Olmark and did not see that coming.
- 6:18Andrea: Often it's the same person.
- 6:20Andrea: If there is a double murder or if there's two murders happened in the movie, it's the same killer for both.
- 6:25Andrea: And so I did pick out the female killer.
- 6:29Andrea: I did peg her, just because a lot of the times they give us a ton of red herrings in the movies.
- 6:34Andrea: I don't think they gave us really any.
- 6:36Andrea: Besides, the couple I mean it was one of them had to have done it.
- 6:40Andrea: And then you know, when the husband ended up dead, you're like, well, obvious as a female, but I had kind of thought that, for I also thought it was the dad.
- 6:49Andrea: But I'm like why would he kill his daughter?
- 6:50Andrea: He seems really beat up about this, but he did have that guilty look and feel about him throughout the movie.
- 6:56Andrea: So I kind of had it.
- 6:58Andrea: I just didn't think that he would have killed someone.
- 7:01Andrea: I just thought there's something off about this guy.
- 7:04Eric: I hope you're never on a jury for me.
- 7:05Eric: If you're like you just look shady, I think you're guilty.
- 7:09Andrea: I don't know.
- 7:11Andrea: I know I'm not the only one who thought that.
- 7:13Andrea: I think someone posted that in my comments too.
- 7:14Andrea: I was like I thought the same thing.
- 7:16Andrea: He just had this guilty look about him, or the way he played the character made it seem like there's some shady stuff going on here.
- 7:23Eric: Well, I was sending you messages while I was walking or while I was walking.
- 7:26Eric: I watched the next morning and I was like I think I know who it is.
- 7:32Eric: I totally nailed the wife as the killer, but I did not see the dad at all.
- 7:41Eric: In fact I first, when it happened, I was like wait, what happened?
- 7:45Eric: What happened?
- 7:45Eric: Because I don't know if it's a whatever, I kind of pride myself and be able to figure these mysteries out.
- 7:52Eric: I thought, like you said, it was like a little obvious of who it is.
- 7:57Eric: But I think Mystery 101 doesn't always conceal that killer much.
- 8:02Eric: But it's a good story and it spins it well and it does a good job with the characters.
- 8:07Eric: That it never bothers me.
- 8:09Eric: That's how this movie was as well.
- 8:11Eric: It wasn't until, like I said, once they threw the dad in there I started doubting myself.
- 8:18Eric: And when they show up and it's the final scene, I'm like wait, is she really just like upset or no pants on the throat?
- 8:27Andrea: Yeah.
- 8:29Eric: No, no, I was right.
- 8:29Eric: So I thought, I thought, like I said, I thought it was a good mystery, maybe not the most difficult to solve, but still an interesting one.
- 8:39Andrea: Yeah, and I liked the female killer.
- 8:41Andrea: So the wife actually really liked her character.
- 8:45Andrea: I'm like she seems like someone, minus the fact she killed people, but I was like it seems like she would be a cool friend, like I really liked the way that she acted out this character.
- 8:54Andrea: Like sometimes we have the killers who are just obviously mean and just like the husband seemed that way, but she seemed like, oh, she has her stuff together.
- 9:03Andrea: She had that emotion when she talked about, you know, not having kids and I just, you know, you kind of felt for her and so she really played.
- 9:10Andrea: I thought she played that character really well because I felt empathy for her and you kind of really in that last scene, even before, you know, she went for the throat, you're just like.
- 9:19Andrea: I mean, you just saw her humanness, which I don't know if they always do that in Hallmark mystery movies, so I really enjoyed seeing that aspect of her character.
- 9:26Eric: I wonder if that has anything to do with having a team of woman writers who maybe have a little different perspective of how they, you know, create that character.
- 9:35Eric: Yeah, I do like, obviously, the cheating husband who's flaunting it and everything like that.
- 9:42Eric: Like I don't think it justifies murder but, like you said, you do develop a little bit of empathy for them.
- 9:48Eric: And once again, that's kind of a mystery 101 thing too, where usually the killer in mystery 101, I don't want to say is justified per se.
- 9:57Eric: But you know, they got a little something going on.
- 9:59Eric: It's not like they're just like hey, I'm, you know I'm going to run and kill people.
- 10:03Andrea: So right, yeah.
- 10:04Eric: All right, all right.
- 10:07Eric: Well, our next new segment here is called romance roundup.
- 10:10Eric: It used to be our steam meter, but now we're a romance roundup.
- 10:13Eric: So what do you think?
- 10:15Eric: Did you feel any chemistry in this movie?
- 10:20Andrea: Yeah, I think there was three romances that I kind of pieced from.
- 10:24Andrea: You know obviously Nikki and Benjamin Ayer's character.
- 10:27Andrea: I thought that was great.
- 10:29Andrea: That scene was probably my favorite scene.
- 10:32Eric: I wish they didn't release it.
- 10:34Andrea: I know that scene was really good.
- 10:37Eric: Because that would have been like.
- 10:37Eric: When I saw it on social I was like, wait, what.
- 10:40Eric: I wish they wouldn't have released it, because that would have been great, just to have that 100% there.
- 10:47Andrea: Yes, that was probably one of the best scenes.
- 10:49Andrea: It was just cute and the way that you know Casey came in and kind of played it like oh, this is awkward, it's you know what?
- 10:55Eric: Yeah, I loved it.
- 10:56Andrea: That was a great scene.
- 10:57Andrea: And then between Casey and Eli, I thought they had some great chemistry.
- 11:00Andrea: I did find it awkward that, like if she was friends with his ex-girlfriend, he was just murdered and His ex-girlfriend's just murdered.
- 11:08Andrea: They're kind of flirtatious.
- 11:11Andrea: That whole kind of element you have to kind of put on the back shelf, I guess a little bit, because it seems a little fast.
- 11:18Eric: They did at the end, Like I say, it was kind of like are we going?
- 11:22Andrea: to be friends.
- 11:22Eric: It was playful, right, so yeah, but there was definitely a little flirtation, little chemistry, but they did keep it at bay, which I think is appropriate for just having, yes, your friend or girlfriend murdered.
- 11:34Andrea: Yeah, and I think when they were, you know, playing husband and wife when they did the consult, I really liked the part where she kind of like he went to grab her hand and she slapped her way.
- 11:43Andrea: She's like no, and I'm like, oh, that was just a cute little, like subtle thing.
- 11:47Andrea: But like I think this movie had a lot, just as I said, with the, you know, with the female killer, like they just had a lot of those little subtle elements thrown in there.
- 11:55Andrea: That again, having watched it three times, I noticed those little things that I maybe wouldn't have the first brush, but they really, I think, help again the movie show what they're trying to do between these characters and build some of that ensemble cast.
- 12:08Andrea: Because then my last you know chemistry was Liam and Sarah.
- 12:11Andrea: I thought I really hope that they get together in future movies.
- 12:14Andrea: I really enjoyed their chemistry, the little quick banter, the Sarah Bellum, you know the little nickname that he gave her.
- 12:20Andrea: I thought that was super cute and I can see something maybe in the future building there that they could play with.
- 12:26Eric: Yeah, I loved the where she was like re-buffing his advance, but you could tell it was like intrigue, yeah, she's like no, but maybe so yes, and I liked them as well.
- 12:44Eric: I thought so, markian, I thought he, like I said before, with Kat just being really solid acting, I thought he definitely held his own.
- 12:55Eric: And the thing that was interesting with the romance roundup you know we shared how Benjamin Ayres did this for free because Nicky asked.
- 13:04Eric: I think she's like hey, I'll let you kiss me if you're in this movie for free.
- 13:07Eric: And he's like ah, sign me up, all right, because he didn't have as big of a role as I thought he was in there.
- 13:14Eric: You know a couple of scenes and we knew he was supporting and that was like really the scene for Benjamin.
- 13:22Andrea: Yeah, I mean, I know he's in future ones or potentially in future ones.
- 13:26Andrea: So that's what your interview, you know, said.
- 13:29Andrea: You know so Michael had said that they had signed on and there is.
- 13:32Andrea: You know this is an ongoing character.
- 13:33Andrea: So you know, I think they worked together well on I liked their cranberry Christmas movie and so maybe you know, they built that friendship and just was like hey.
- 13:43Eric: And you know we talked about, when we're doing our year in review, the chemistry between Andrew and Nicky, how we think it's a little more, you know, brotherly, sisterly.
- 13:53Eric: I think you have Benjamin and her have a little more like, oh hey, we could be this Completely agree, this couple.
- 14:01Eric: So I like that as well.
- 14:02Eric: All right, so this is the one I'm really looking forward to, because I have a character in here that I just I love, do you?
- 14:09Andrea: have romance roundup.
- 14:10Andrea: Anything to add?
- 14:12Eric: Oh, I was agreeing with everything you said, okay.
- 14:14Andrea: I didn't know if you had any other.
- 14:14Eric: Yes, my mind was just the Nicky, the Nicky and Benjamin Kiss, and then just that, that, how they they had that flirtation with with Casey and Eli, but they kept it appropriately distanced.
- 14:28Eric: And I agree with you, I was just seeing when they were Eminem at the at the thing and how they just play married.
- 14:34Eric: I thought they did it beautifully and it was just setting up future.
- 14:38Eric: So we once again, we need more of these.
- 14:40Eric: So, as myself proclaimed future CEO of Hallmark, I'll make sure it happens, so okay.
- 14:48Eric: So moving on to the character corner, where we're going to highlight our standout characters from the film and you said this in Samo Castle there's plenty to be had.
- 14:55Eric: So who was your favorite character?
- 14:58Eric: I love the movie.
- 15:00Andrea: So mine is Liam.
- 15:03Eric: I got hands down.
- 15:03Eric: Yes.
- 15:05Andrea: Is that yours too?
- 15:06Eric: Totally yes.
- 15:07Eric: Oh, my gosh Love Liam.
- 15:08Eric: He was hilarious.
- 15:09Andrea: Alexander Nunes.
- 15:11Andrea: I looked up his name and just kind of I thought he brought such a lightness and competency at the same time.
- 15:16Andrea: Like he was fun, he was playful, but also he was like let's get down to business.
- 15:20Andrea: Like you know, I'm getting paid to do this.
- 15:24Eric: And he wasn't Mason from from Curious Cater, right yeah.
- 15:29Andrea: So like he could actually do his job and I think that character really tied together the group well or kind of what they showed us of him, and I would love to know more about his backstory, just as we heard just a little bit in the van, you know, between him and Sarah and you know that's where I think this movie or this series could really.
- 15:48Andrea: You know, you can have a whole movie focused on Liam, next a little bit more about his story and then Sarah you could really play with this, and I think they did a good enough job of exploring each of the characters enough that were kind of interested.
- 16:01Andrea: The one that they didn't show a lot, and I don't know her name, it's the other.
- 16:05Eric: it's the other female, the one who did the forensic.
- 16:06Andrea: Yeah, and she wasn't in it, a ton which totally makes sense, Because with an ensemble cast you're going to have someone who's a little, you know doesn't have quite the biggest role.
- 16:16Andrea: So I would sure I would love to see more with her, but I don't know a ton about her after this first movie and maybe that's on purpose.
- 16:24Andrea: You know, maybe they have things that they want to pull or they maybe have someone else who they want to pull into the cast Because I think this could throw in another love interest and maybe have them part of the group.
- 16:34Andrea: So I like that.
- 16:35Andrea: That door is open.
- 16:36Andrea: But I definitely think Liam, for me, was just the one who was the standout performance that I didn't know I needed.
- 16:45Eric: So it was PJ Ellis.
- 16:47Eric: Okay, pj was the, she's the forensic one and but yeah, I agree with you so much with, or actually, or was Sarah the forensic and PJ was the.
- 17:02Eric: Sarah was she was the, the one who had the evidence and all that right.
- 17:06Eric: Yeah, there was like.
- 17:08Eric: Yeah, like he said, liam just had so much to him in the great thing about this, you know, in kudos to to Nikki and Megan for writing a good script with characters is Sometimes those secondary characters.
- 17:21Eric: They don't flesh out very well but they, like you said, they built enough of the story there.
- 17:26Eric: Like one of the things that that had me was the, the, you know his magnum PI or I really liked Magnum PI and stuff and I'm a huge Magnum PI fan, so Totally dug that so that's why you watched that murder.
- 17:40Andrea: She wrote episode.
- 17:41Eric: So Was that?
- 17:43Eric: I don't know.
- 17:44Eric: Is that a Magnum PI?
- 17:45Eric: I don't remember.
- 17:46Eric: I don't remember.
- 17:46Eric: I've already blocked it out of my brain.
- 17:49Andrea: No, well, I'm gonna.
- 17:50Andrea: I know what murder.
- 17:51Andrea: Well then, I know what murder.
- 17:52Andrea: She wrote episode.
- 17:53Andrea: I'm gonna make you watch.
- 17:54Eric: Yeah, I don't think that was the one.
- 17:55Eric: But okay, but yeah, getting back to Liam, he just was very the way he just interacted with everybody.
- 18:01Eric: I think he just summed it up perfectly.
- 18:02Eric: He was competent and still playful and fun, so loved, loved him as a character.
- 18:08Eric: I will say the one thing I if we're getting a little critical of a of a Character, was Nikki as being a professor, being a law professor and letting the sort of the class get a little unruly, I thought, I think like what do you mean by that?
- 18:26Eric: when Eli and Casey started going at it with each other like, oh, hypothetically, if someone were to murder you know someone, just be at the like.
- 18:35Eric: They were clearly doing their little passive aggressiveness at each other in disrupting the whole class like I think she would have.
- 18:43Andrea: I would like a real professor, but it was it made for fun and entertainment, so I feel like I've been in classes.
- 18:48Andrea: I mean, I went to a liberal arts school and they definitely let people Kind of go at each other with different opinions and ideas.
- 18:55Andrea: I've been in classes like that.
- 18:57Andrea: Yeah Well, I was about a murder of the well, no no, that kind of thing.
- 19:02Eric: Like I said, it was there yes.
- 19:04Eric: No, not that it was a personal is clearly a personal attack on each other kind of thing versus, yes, just a healthy debate.
- 19:12Eric: But whatever nitpick, like I said, I liked, I thought everyone was good.
- 19:17Eric: The only thing I and this may go back to the mystery, but, like Benjamin, we talked about how he didn't have a huge role who gave the envelope?
- 19:28Eric: And maybe I missed it, since you saw it three times and I only saw it twice who gave the mystery envelope with the the lead?
- 19:34Andrea: They never said well, nikki gave it to him, but they know actually ever said, they just said someone special.
- 19:40Eric: Oh, maybe assuming it was that's who I thought it was, but I don't know.
- 19:46Andrea: Yeah, that's it.
- 19:47Eric: did they never confirmed they just I'm assuming you haven't, do you have a guess who you think it was?
- 19:51Andrea: That's who I thought it was, so I was just assuming it was him.
- 19:55Andrea: But I also would say the one thing that happened with the characters.
- 19:59Andrea: I liked, casey, though you know the leading, the leading lady as her crime skills Absolutely fantastic.
- 20:04Andrea: We're on point every time she cried.
- 20:06Andrea: But the one thing that Hallmark mystery movies always does with like why do you send them?
- 20:12Andrea: Like hey, I'm gonna call you.
- 20:14Andrea: You know, first I'm gonna text you.
- 20:15Andrea: And so they're talking to a killer and they decided to call let me answer this.
- 20:19Andrea: Oh, and now I'm gonna send you a video, as the killer is like behind them.
- 20:23Andrea: You know that whole thing.
- 20:24Andrea: I know it's done for like drama purposes.
- 20:26Andrea: It was like why don't you just send the text first?
- 20:28Andrea: Like who would do all of those steps?
- 20:31Andrea: If this was actually the case, you would quick send off a text, especially if you know you're with the killer.
- 20:36Andrea: Like hey, frank did it, are you okay?
- 20:40Andrea: Like not, let me call you, let me text you and let me send you a video.
- 20:44Andrea: Like who's gonna have time to do all those things and not get killed themselves?
- 20:49Eric: So I agree with you.
- 20:50Eric: So one of the things I was quickly touched on.
- 20:53Eric: As far as the last thing of the the character corner, it was an assemble cast and they did do the little slow walk Together as they all came right, you know, from his little van and they all turn the corner and they're doing their little slow walk together.
- 21:07Eric: So that was classic.
- 21:09Eric: I love that.
- 21:10Eric: And then they had another line in there and I think it was Sarah, but it was never trust a man with two first names.
- 21:18Eric: And then Liam reiterated it and that's actually been one of my philosophies in life too people who have two first names never trust him.
- 21:28Eric: So I love seeing that in the movie.
- 21:30Andrea: I didn't know that other people thought that, so that was great people do, I think that's the thing.
- 21:35Eric: Oh, it is Okay, good it should.
- 21:36Eric: I don't.
- 21:37Andrea: I don't think that, but Well, you don't, you have.
- 21:41Eric: You have a lot of proper last names, you don't have to worry about it.
- 21:43Eric: Okay, so let's hallmark trivia time, something like that.
- 21:49Eric: Maybe people didn't know about the actors or the directors or something in the movie.
- 21:53Eric: I do have one thing for this and and it is going to be, if you follow us on social as well, I'll be ruining the surprise for next Monday.
- 22:03Eric: But the judge in the case Was judge McNulty, who, megan McNulty, is the writer.
- 22:13Eric: So it was well, she's also, and she's also an actor Like Nikki, but she didn't have a role in this movie as well, and when I've been talking to her on On Instagram quite a bit, she's super nice, super, super nice.
- 22:29Eric: But I was like, hey, wait a minute.
- 22:31Eric: It was on my second watch when I saw judge McNulty and I had to go back and like, did I get it right?
- 22:36Eric: Sure enough.
- 22:36Eric: So I sent her a picture and she like gave me a little winky.
- 22:39Eric: So they purposely that's how they acknowledged Her and her in this movie, even though she didn't have an actual role.
- 22:48Eric: And, like I say, the other trivia thing is that we learned that Benjamin Did do this movie just because Nikki really thought he would be perfect.
- 22:56Eric: I agree, I thought he rocked the role and he did the.
- 23:00Eric: You know he did it for free.
- 23:01Eric: It gets back to you know, we've talked Many times about just that Hallmark universe Number one, how great they treat their fans and you know, us included but then just how they're also very Much a family together.
- 23:16Eric: There's like that very big click of the popular people, you know, and he's definitely in that click with Nikki and I.
- 23:24Eric: I could see them calling up, you know, any of them.
- 23:27Eric: Hey, paul Campbell, you want to do this, kimberley.
- 23:29Eric: So I said you, will you do this and do we do it?
- 23:32Eric: And then all agreeing and saying, sure, I'll do this, aaron Cahill, come on over.
- 23:37Eric: So, yeah, no, I bet they all would prefer to get paid, but my trivia is got a virgin river twist to it so of course.
- 23:48Andrea: Markeann Tarterra souk, the leading guy, eli.
- 23:51Andrea: He actually played in two episodes of virgin river as a love interest to Lizzie in season four.
- 23:58Andrea: So if people were looking and they're like maybe I've seen him before he came in and I think he played one of.
- 24:05Andrea: Now I'm forgetting the guy Jack and and the main girl no, now the guy who plays in the Hallmark movies.
- 24:15Andrea: I can't remember his virgin river name, lawrence, who is in virgin river Benjamin Hollingsworth.
- 24:23Andrea: No, he has only been in a couple movies and I'm sure other people know who I'm talking about.
- 24:27Andrea: Jack's best friend, the one runs the bar with him.
- 24:30Andrea: He played one of his I think, true brothers that had came into the movie.
- 24:34Eric: I think I just need to watch some virgin river, just so.
- 24:37Eric: I can track of all the hallmark people.
- 24:39Andrea: I know there's a lot of crossovers and we have one coming this next week in the regular Hallmark movie that was also on virgin river.
- 24:46Andrea: So I'm enjoying that and I know others.
- 24:49Eric: I know, I know you do, I know you do.
- 24:51Eric: All right, all mark and chill time.
- 24:55Eric: So is there any other show or movie?
- 24:58Eric: You know, hallmark or not, that you would for people who enjoyed this you think would be a good fit for them as well?
- 25:08Andrea: So the only thing that came to mind and only because it's on Homer, usually in the early mornings or late at night, matlock, because it's a courtroom drama and there was some courtroom in this, and so that's the only thing.
- 25:20Andrea: It also has humor, but it also is, you know, again, a competent movie or a competent, you know person who's running things.
- 25:27Andrea: So I, that's the only thing I could come up with.
- 25:30Eric: I found Mark his little description of it being 21 Mutt Jump Street meets Law and Order a pretty good description of what it is, because it's like you know, all young people who were doing it.
- 25:48Eric: There's like 18 of them.
- 25:49Eric: I haven't watched it in years but I don't know how you could like not, but I guess all right, you're too busy watching Virgin River and Murder she.
- 25:58Andrea: Wrote.
- 26:02Eric: But so there's that.
- 26:03Eric: But I also think if we're going to get into a Hallmark one, I would put this in that the Nikki and Nora, because once again it's you know fairly young characters, you know it's got the sister bond thing going to it.
- 26:17Eric: So you know, it's clear, it's obviously not a courtroom, it's not a drama, you know that kind of procedural thing.
- 26:24Eric: But it has had the same kind of vibe with, you know, a lot of fun, a lot of banter in it and you know just character diversity of characters, with more than just one main you know person.
- 26:37Eric: So yeah, I would just say probably if you like one, you like the other, maybe not.
- 26:41Eric: We'll see.
- 26:42Eric: Let us know in our DMs over there on Instagram if you agree or do not agree with Matlock.
- 26:50Eric: A nice show.
- 26:52Eric: From what?
- 26:53Eric: 1978?
- 26:54Eric: What?
- 26:56Andrea: was the 80s.
- 26:58Eric: This is my prime time for my mysteries, apparently Starring a 1980, starring a 150 year old actor who's very similar to Catherine McNamara.
- 27:09Andrea: Actually, I diagnosed this murder too.
- 27:10Andrea: That's a great ensemble cast.
- 27:12Eric: Another 150 year old, I also love that series too.
- 27:15Eric: That's Dick Van Dyke right.
- 27:17Andrea: Yep, it's great.
- 27:20Eric: All right, all right, all right.
- 27:22Eric: So we're in a fan corner where we share either emails or DMs.
- 27:26Eric: We get some fans.
- 27:27Eric: What I'd like you to do is I know you ran a little poll to see what everyone thought.
- 27:31Eric: We pulled my numbers.
- 27:32Eric: Are we aligned with the public or are we out here on our own little mystery island?
- 27:38Eric: See what?
- 27:39Andrea: I did there, okay.
- 27:40Andrea: So my final.
- 27:41Andrea: I did see that my final poll numbers 48% gave it 5 out of 5.
- 27:48Andrea: 48.
- 27:49Andrea: 46% gave 4 out of 5.
- 27:52Andrea: 3 out of 5 was just 16.
- 27:55Andrea: And then either a 1 or 2 star was just 10%.
- 27:58Andrea: And I saw that our podcast voted in a 1 star.
- 28:04Andrea: So really it's probably less than 10% that actually did, because we clearly didn't think it was a 1 star.
- 28:10Andrea: That was you, eric.
- 28:12Eric: Yes, I did it.
- 28:14Andrea: This is a joke, because I didn't want to give you my point of vote no, and you sued, I already figured, I didn't want to tell you what I was really.
- 28:19Eric: It's a good poll though I shouldn't have skewed the poll.
- 28:22Andrea: So it was probably more or less 50%.
- 28:24Andrea: Most people really enjoyed this, which was, I think, great to see, and most of the comments that I had on my Instagram page I had quite a few and a lot.
- 28:31Andrea: I only had one person who really wasn't a huge fan of it.
- 28:34Andrea: Otherwise, everyone else really enjoyed this movie.
- 28:37Eric: So I did the morning after just the little slider bar and I agree with you.
- 28:41Eric: The only person who didn't like it is the person who never agrees with us.
- 28:45Andrea: Yeah, and we love her dearly, I know.
- 28:48Eric: I know.
- 28:49Eric: But everyone and I agree.
- 28:51Eric: It's like most of the mysteries seem to have a, even the popular ones.
- 28:57Eric: A lot of people like them, but there's also a lot of people who don't.
- 29:00Eric: Whereas this one seemed to be fairly Like I said, I did not see many comments saying I disliked the movie at all.
- 29:08Andrea: So I thought that was good, but we need more.
- 29:11Andrea: Yeah, I think that's where.
- 29:13Eric: Can't have a one done.
- 29:15Andrea: Even the one who had told us that she wasn't a big fan of it.
- 29:18Andrea: She would totally be open for more.
- 29:19Andrea: She had told me she's like I'm totally open for more and I think that's a huge tip of the hat to this movie for having people even if they didn't necessarily love it, they wouldn't be opposed to watching another, whereas other movies we've seen quite a few of maybe curious skaters and maybe people are starting to either fall off the wagon or beyond.
- 29:41Andrea: I'll be curious to see, numbers-wise, how that continues.
- 29:44Andrea: Are people still going to be on board now that we're past that three?
- 29:49Andrea: Because I think a lot of people will give it this rechance.
- 29:51Andrea: But then will it have that sustained I enjoy you factor, or will it start to fall the wayside?
- 29:59Andrea: Or does Hallmark not care?
- 30:01Andrea: I don't know.
- 30:03Andrea: I don't know it also seems where you're like.
- 30:04Andrea: I mean, obviously they canceled everyone's favorite in Mystery 101.
- 30:09Eric: You're going to say a gourmet detective which is not canceled thanks to you.
- 30:12Andrea: I know I saw that on the page and I'm like, hey, so there's a chance.
- 30:15Andrea: They didn't say it, it wasn't.
- 30:17Andrea: And they have been coming out and saying if they've shut down production or if they're not going to renew it, they have been telling people we don't have plans for more.
- 30:24Andrea: So for them to not say that they for sure don't have any, maybe there's some hope.
- 30:30Eric: Well, obviously I've got one big end.
- 30:32Eric: I love the show.
- 30:33Eric: I'd also love to see Brooke back, but Dylan's one of the guys who's great, who talks to us all the time.
- 30:38Andrea: I love Dylan.
- 30:38Andrea: He is one of my favorite Hallmark stars.
- 30:43Eric: He didn't comment on that.
- 30:44Eric: I don't think.
- 30:44Eric: So I'm going to have to shoot it over to him and say hey, hey, because he may say no, they canceled me.
- 30:50Eric: He does not hide his true feelings, so he's a very good, honest guy.
- 30:58Eric: So all right.
- 30:59Eric: So we have a couple of new Mysteries coming out.
- 31:02Eric: First one is going to be in a couple of weeks Gilded Newport Mysteries Murder at the Breakers.
- 31:10Andrea: Do you want me to read the description?
- 31:11Andrea: I have a pull up.
- 31:12Andrea: A murder interrupts in 1895 Vanderbilt ball.
- 31:16Andrea: A society columnist is attending and this is going to air February 2nd at 8pm, which is a Friday, central standard time.
- 31:23Andrea: It stars Allie Scovey, danny Griffin and Nathan Witt, and so Allie Scovey was in Firefly Lane as well as the gourmet detective daughter of Brooke Burns, and so you might remember her.
- 31:38Andrea: I had forgot that she was the daughter until I think you had mentioned that and then when I was watching it, since they had a marathon on Saturday, I was watching or Sunday, whatever day it was, but I was watching the marathon and like, oh, there she is.
- 31:50Andrea: I didn't even put it together when I was watching Firefly Lane that you know that was.
- 31:54Andrea: That was her.
- 31:55Andrea: So I'm excited to see her as a leading gal.
- 31:59Andrea: The one thing I will say after watching the preview a little concern for the costume was only.
- 32:04Andrea: I'm used to the HBO Max, like their Gilded Age, their budgets very large, and those costumes are gorgeous and on point for the era.
- 32:14Andrea: These looked a little more costume, shoppy and like they just got them out of the attic type of thing.
- 32:20Andrea: So I mean, as long as they, you know, kind of you can put that aside.
- 32:26Andrea: That's what I'm going to try to do.
- 32:28Eric: Just having watched the previews, well, I will say along the lines of Emma, the main character.
- 32:33Eric: She actually, because she is the Vanderbilt, but she's removed, so she works for herself and she talks a lot about how her clothes are constantly being repurposed and so many many, is always trying to make her clothes look presentable, but she is not a Vanderbilt.
- 32:54Eric: Now that's the question.
- 32:55Eric: Do the Vanderbilt when you get to them?
- 32:56Eric: Are they going to have that you know procedure?
- 33:00Eric: I don't know, so I will say Emma the character.
- 33:02Eric: It's not a surprise if it's her that is there.
- 33:07Andrea: Okay, okay, all right.
- 33:08Andrea: What about you?
- 33:09Andrea: Are you excited for that one?
- 33:10Eric: Oh, totally, yeah, Totally, totally, totally, totally, like I read the book, it's we.
- 33:16Eric: We talked to the writer, who that will air the week before of the book and she did say she was happy because she got to see a director cut and she says it holds pretty true to the, to her book.
- 33:32Eric: So a lot of times it's totally nothing like it where she said this one does hold pretty true to her, her, her story, and I just think it's fun doing the period piece.
- 33:43Eric: So I think it's something totally different.
- 33:45Eric: I also think, you know, we just got to see a movie with some young, but they're like 30-ish, right, I don't know how old they all are, but I'm putting them late, late 20s or 30, right, whereas getting an actual 21 year old, and I will say that post when I posted the images it is by far our highest ranking post.
- 34:06Eric: Danny Griffin, who, I'm sorry, I got to get to know the guy.
- 34:09Eric: He has an insanely loyal base because they were reposting it, re-sharing it, like we usually get you know a few thousand things we had.
- 34:22Eric: Well, last time I looked, 38,000, we had more saves than we usually have likes Like we had 198 saves of those pictures.
- 34:33Eric: So insane for that.
- 34:35Andrea: So I'm like looking up who he is.
- 34:38Andrea: I got to figure out who Danny Griffin is.
- 34:40Eric: I do not believe he was in Virgin River, but I would not be surprised if he said he was.
- 34:45Andrea: Okay, okay, I can see why.
- 34:46Andrea: The young girls probably that is probably a young girl fan base would be my guess.
- 34:52Andrea: Yeah, I don't recognize anything that he's been in, so but he does have a large following.
- 35:00Eric: All right, I'm going to roll on to February 23rd.
- 35:04Eric: We have another mystery.
- 35:05Eric: So within two months we're going to have three mysteries, and this one is crime time free fall.
- 35:12Eric: And this is crime series.
- 35:14Eric: Actress Hadley Warner retires to a small town where she encounters her first real case.
- 35:21Eric: Using her TV crime knowledge, she teams up with Detective Sean Caden to solve the case.
- 35:28Eric: The stars Lindy Greenwood and Luke McFarland.
- 35:31Eric: Luke McFarland totally after catch me a few claws, he just skyrocketed back way up to the to the elite with me again.
- 35:42Eric: He was so good in that after being in a couple movies.
- 35:45Eric: So, and then Lindy Greenwood she's not hard on the eye.
- 35:50Eric: So I'll admit I'm I'm quite excited for this one.
- 35:55Eric: I think it's good.
- 35:56Eric: Plus Stacey Harding, who directed round and round, which obviously I'm very big fan of.
- 36:07Eric: I'm like I say I am very, very game for for this.
- 36:13Eric: And the funny thing is I've been talking to her over Instagram because I'm trying to get her.
- 36:16Eric: You know.
- 36:16Eric: It's like, oh, you know, if you ever do, because she's she's done a bunch of different mysteries.
- 36:21Eric: She's done mystery one like an episode of mystery one on one.
- 36:24Eric: Like pretty much every single one out there she's done a mystery.
- 36:28Eric: So I'm like, if you ever do a mystery again, you know I'd love to get you in the podcast.
- 36:33Eric: And she's like well, maybe I've got one Like she.
- 36:36Eric: She hinted that it was coming and she kept doing stuff, but she wouldn't even tell me off record what it was.
- 36:42Eric: And then it dropped and I'm like send her the picture.
- 36:44Eric: I'm like, is this you?
- 36:45Eric: And then she's like yeah, that's me.
- 36:47Eric: So I'm excited because once again she's just an absolutely fantastic director, the cast Awesome and we'll see.
- 36:56Eric: It's kind of a fun, fun little premise.
- 36:59Andrea: So yeah, I'm excited as well.
- 37:02Andrea: I enjoy Luke and Lindy.
- 37:05Andrea: I have enjoyed I don't know if I enjoyed her last Christmas movie as much, it wasn't her, you know it was kind of the movie overall but the I think those two together could be really, really fun.
- 37:16Andrea: And I again I like that premise of the TV actress, you know and moves to that small town and you know I love a good small town, cozy feels.
- 37:24Andrea: So this is right up my alley in that regards.
- 37:27Andrea: So I am hopeful that I will really enjoy that, that cozy setting.
- 37:31Andrea: And I don't think I've seen any actual previews of this one, have you.
- 37:36Eric: I have not, yet I don't know if they've done any of them Any.
- 37:40Eric: Okay, yeah, I mean I watch enough Murder.
- 37:42Andrea: She Wrote at Night or in the mornings that I haven't seen.
- 37:44Andrea: Sometimes they'll drop them on there.
- 37:46Andrea: I haven't seen any yet, but that's as long as the small town is cute and cozy, I am all in.
- 37:52Eric: So I'm also excited to review it because, like I say, since Stacy's fantastic and talks to us, that I think she'll give a hopefully she'll come on the podcast but B, if not, she'll at least give us some good like behind the scenes, interesting, you know tidbits about the movie.
- 38:11Eric: So it'll be, it'll be good.
- 38:13Eric: So, yeah, okay, andrea.
- 38:17Andrea: Well, we just have one more thing that we also have coming up.
- 38:19Andrea: Remember the way home starts this Sunday.
- 38:21Eric: Oh, correct, Wait is this Sunday.
- 38:23Andrea: Yeah, this Sunday is the 21st.
- 38:26Eric: And I promised you that I would watch it and we will review the episode.
- 38:32Andrea: Yes, we'll just do a quick little recap and review of the episodes.
- 38:35Andrea: I personally, so this will be a great little segment.
- 38:39Andrea: Potentially because I loved the way home, eric didn't make it through the first three episodes of season one.
- 38:45Eric: So no, I didn't make it through the first three, I didn't make it through the first four.
- 38:49Andrea: Oh gosh.
- 38:50Andrea: Okay, so he needs to go back and watch season one, so he's ready for this, and then we'll see.
- 38:56Andrea: We'll see if maybe he we've turned a corner with him and he is all in, or we're just going to have a disagreement every.
- 39:02Eric: I will say I definitely came in the minority because yes, you are.
- 39:06Eric: Everybody says they love it, everyone says it's like absolutely great TV, and then even the ratings are mind boggling good.
- 39:13Eric: So I you know.
- 39:16Eric: But I stood by myself defending Hannah, who is, by the way, filming as of today.
- 39:21Eric: I'm convinced that's what she is doing, because Barbara Niven posted a thing about how she's off to shoot, and then they're in the snow, Unless it's a Christmas movie.
- 39:30Andrea: but I heard of snows in Minnesota, so I don't think they actually film those in Minnesota, though no but that's where it takes place.
- 39:39Eric: So I was like it's not actually.
- 39:41Andrea: I mean, we have not had snow, so it's not.
- 39:43Andrea: It's not being filmed here, Right?
- 39:46Andrea: I will also say, with the way home, my anticipation for this new season.
- 39:51Andrea: Like I'm a little nervous because sometimes, you know, Hallmark can drop the ball on season two and I know this was originally going to be a Netflix series and so I'm hoping that they had this kind of season two worked out if eventually got picked up.
- 40:05Andrea: So I am a little nervous that I'm going to make you watch it and you're going to be like now I hate it even more.
- 40:10Andrea: So that's where I am a little nervous.
- 40:14Eric: And it is funny how there's, like that, the big breaking news about how there's semi-nude or almost nude, because it has you know.
- 40:24Andrea: Andy McGovern or underwear.
- 40:25Eric: And underwear, which is funny, because if people are saying like, oh, whatever, I'm like by Hallmark standards, that's racy, but I do think when we actually see it, everyone's going to be like wait, that was it, you know, but kudos to her, she could be time traveling and it could be like a huge long John, you know.
- 40:43Eric: But kudos to her that it's the you know, the more mature woman who's doing it versus them.
- 40:49Eric: I love her and bringing in the young, oh yeah.
- 40:51Andrea: Love Andy.
- 40:53Eric: You haven't seen.
- 40:54Eric: You haven't seen like her movies, though going back in time.
- 40:57Andrea: Like Four Winning in a Funeral.
- 40:58Andrea: Cedar Cove is great Hove and I've seen Four Winning in a.
- 41:00Eric: Funeral oh yeah, dylan McNeil, or Dylan McNeil.
- 41:03Andrea: I know Dylan Neal.
- 41:03Andrea: That's where I fell in love with Dylan Neal, with Cedar Cove, and I loved Cedar Cove.
- 41:07Andrea: That was a show.
- 41:09Eric: Sydney talked me into that one, because I hadn't watched it ever Did you like that one?
- 41:12Eric: Yeah, but except for you get to see Brennan Elliott's a jerk I know.
- 41:17Andrea: You can really see his acting jobs.
- 41:19Eric: I'm not comfortable with that.
- 41:21Andrea: I know I really enjoy seeing that Like the nicest guy and he's not.
- 41:23Andrea: So he's a great actor.
- 41:25Andrea: You can see from like the roles that he's played, so I actually really enjoy that, or just seeing him play in this role.
- 41:30Eric: It just made me uncomfortable.
- 41:31Eric: But I like Dylan Neal so I like to say he's one of the cool guys, so I did enjoy that.
- 41:36Eric: But yes, andy McNeil did exist before Cedar Cove.
- 41:40Eric: And if I'm watching, if I'm watching Way Home, then I think you should watch Four Winning in a Funeral.
- 41:49Andrea: I got to find it on some streaming service.
- 41:51Andrea: I'll do that.
- 41:52Eric: Yeah, it's out there, ok.
- 41:54Eric: Well, this is fun, it's been a pleasure.
- 41:56Eric: Yes, and once again it's awesome, we finally agree again.
- 41:59Eric: Real good mystery, enjoyed it.
- 42:01Eric: Great acting, great chemistry, great all those stuff.
- 42:04Eric: So all around.
- 42:05Andrea: And if you, like me, gave up in that first hour, give it another go and see if that I think that second hour will get you pulled in.
- 42:12Eric: Even though you spoiled it, but that's OK.
- 42:15Andrea: That is also true.
- 42:16Andrea: I did have someone else in the DS.
- 42:18Eric: But you know what we both quit?
- 42:19Andrea: early and we both picked it up the next day and enjoyed it.
- 42:22Eric: So I know I'm not the only one.
- 42:23Eric: We said that, even if you know who we like, we figured it out.
- 42:26Eric: It didn't ruin the movie.
- 42:28Andrea: So no, it really.
- 42:29Andrea: I mean, and you'll probably figure it out pretty easily as well, even if we didn't spoil it, All right, we will see you later.
- 42:37Eric: Bye, goodbye, 给我 needed.
