- 0:13Welcome to The 405 Payroll, your lunch hour guide to a bigger paycheck and an easier
- 0:19month here in Oklahoma City.
- 0:21I'm Claire Brooks, and today's episode is for our OKCREAL neighbors.
- 0:26And I'm Miles.
- 0:27Today we've got real openings with real pay, one training path that can move you up
- 0:31a pay tier, some extra cash to chase this week, and one small thing to finish before
- 0:36five o'clock.
- 0:38Let's start with a number.
- 0:39Fresh October 2026 data from ZipRecruiter says the average hourly pay across
- 0:45standard hourly roles in Oklahoma City is $16.70.
- 0:49And the middle of the pack, the 25th to the 75th percentile,
- 0:53clusters between $14.65 and $16.16 an hour.
- 0:59So if you're earning fifteen or sixteen bucks an hour, you're right in the most
- 1:03common range in the city.
- 1:04I want to say that plainly.
- 1:06You're not behind.
- 1:07You're working hard in a market that pays in the middle.
- 1:10And here's why it matters when you pay rent.
- 1:13The context we're working from says that at average Oklahoma City rents,
- 1:17a household needs roughly $18 to $22 an hour to keep housing under 30 percent of
- 1:23gross pay.
- 1:24That's the line where rent starts squeezing everything else.
- 1:28Okay, so what does fifteen or sixteen dollars an hour feel like on the wrong side of
- 1:32that line?
- 1:33Say it in real life terms.
- 1:36It feels like no cushion.
- 1:38One car repair or one utility spike, and the month gets tight.
- 1:43That isn't an effort problem.
- 1:45It's a gap between the wage and the rent, and a gap has a number you can close.
- 1:52Which makes the news from the ballot box a little sobering.
- 1:55Voters just rejected State Question 832, 55.4 percent to 44.6 percent.
- 2:01It would have raised the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
- 2:05So Oklahoma's legal minimum stays at $7.25, where it has sat since 2009.
- 2:11No new law is closing the gap this year.
- 2:14The raise has to come from the job you take or the credential you earn.
- 2:18And honestly, that's the encouraging part, because those are two things you control,
- 2:23and you can start both this week.
- 2:25Our target today is the $22 to $28 an hour bracket.
- 2:29We'll show you a $25 an hour job in Edmond, a training program that costs $835 out
- 2:35of pocket, and weekend cash at a downtown arena.
- 2:39None of it asks you to work harder than you already do.
- 2:42It asks you to aim your effort at a higher number.
- 2:46I'll take that.
- 2:47Small wins count here, so if you only do one thing from this list,
- 2:51that's a win.
- 2:52Let's get into who's hiring.
