Speaker 3: My thanks to Dale Cooper for setting in for me
2:44
Speaker 3: on Friday. I had to be away to take care
2:46
Speaker 3: of some business, So thank you so much to Cooper
2:48
Speaker 3: for the citty. Yet, from time to time on the show.
2:51
Speaker 3: I like to feature authors, and this shillman has written
2:55
Speaker 3: a book and it's certainly something that we all remember
2:59
Speaker 3: well and we're still recovering from from a few years ago.
3:03
Speaker 3: The book is entitled Prescription for Pain. How a once
3:06
Speaker 3: promising doctor became the pill mill Killer. His name is
3:11
Speaker 3: Phil Ale and before I get for I forget, I
3:13
Speaker 3: do want to mention he is going to be making
3:15
Speaker 3: an appearance to discuss the book tonight at Taylor Books
3:17
Speaker 3: Downtown Charleston starting at six pm. Phil, good morning, Welcome
3:20
Speaker 3: to the show.
3:22
Speaker 5: Thanks so much for having me, Dave.
3:24
Speaker 3: That is quite an ominous title, but after reading through it,
3:29
Speaker 3: it's a pretty truthful title, wouldn't you say so, sir.
3:33
Speaker 5: Yes, the doctor at the heart of this book was connected.
3:38
Speaker 5: I mean, estimates vary, but law enforcement looked into as
3:43
Speaker 5: many as over thirty depths of his patients from a
3:47
Speaker 5: parent overdoses. This is a doctor who was working out
3:49
Speaker 5: of cash only paying clinics in southern Ohio in the
3:52
Speaker 5: mid two thousands, prescribing prodigious amounts of oxy coto and
3:56
Speaker 5: as well as sedatives like valim and muscle relaxers. They
4:00
Speaker 5: ultimately had enough evidence to link him directly in an
4:04
Speaker 5: indictment with fourteen patient deaths. He was indicted in two
4:07
Speaker 5: thousand and seven, and at the end of his trial
4:10
Speaker 5: in twenty eleven in Cincinnati, the jury held him directly
4:14
Speaker 5: responsible for four patient deaths. So the pill Mill Killer
4:18
Speaker 5: is a nickname he got from a TV news reporter
4:22
Speaker 5: in his kind of adopted hometown of Chicago. And Yeah,
4:25
Speaker 5: if you read the book, I think it doesn't feel
4:28
Speaker 5: like too much of an understatement.
4:29
Speaker 3: And so what led you to want to write this
4:32
Speaker 3: book and give us the basic synopsis of what the book?
4:34
Speaker 3: I mean, we know what it's about, but what is
4:37
Speaker 3: the how did you attack, for lack of a better word,
4:40
Speaker 3: this subject for the book.
4:42
Speaker 5: So, there have been dozens of doctors charged and convicted
4:46
Speaker 5: of drug related crimes during the opiate epidemic. I'm from
4:49
Speaker 5: Rhode Island up in New England. It certainly happened in
4:52
Speaker 5: my state. It's happened in California, Texas. All across the
4:55
Speaker 5: country there were these cases. As your readers won't need
4:58
Speaker 5: any reminder, this area of Appalachia, southern Ohio, eastern Kentucky,
5:03
Speaker 5: West Virginia was a particular hotbed of this kind of activity. Now,
5:07
Speaker 5: how did I get interested in this one particular case.
5:10
Speaker 5: It goes back to the fact that doctor Paul Volkman,
5:13
Speaker 5: the guy at the center of the case, who is
5:15
Speaker 5: now serving for consecutive life terms in federal prison. He's
5:18
Speaker 5: out in Arizona. Boltman went to college and medical school
5:22
Speaker 5: with my dad. My dad, who is still a practicing
5:26
Speaker 5: endocrinologist in Providence in Fall River, Massachusetts. You know, is
5:31
Speaker 5: a mild mannered, nerdy guy. He plays golf, he sings
5:34
Speaker 5: and choirs. He's not the kind of guy you would
5:36
Speaker 5: expect to know someone charged with being a kind of
5:40
Speaker 5: prescription drug dealing kingpin. And yet that is what happened
5:43
Speaker 5: in two thousand and seven, his kind of long lost,
5:46
Speaker 5: out of touch old classmate was charged by the federal
5:50
Speaker 5: government with these horrifying crimes. So that was my entry point.
5:54
Speaker 5: I learned about this a couple of years later. I
5:57
Speaker 5: was a young journalist just getting started. I had read
6:00
Speaker 5: In Cold Blood by True mccapodi, one of the books
6:03
Speaker 5: that made a big impression on me, and all of
6:04
Speaker 5: a sudden, this big story, this dramatic story, and also
6:08
Speaker 5: this mystery of what happened to this guy kind of
6:11
Speaker 5: falls into my lap. It turns out it took me
6:14
Speaker 5: quite a while to solve that mystery, to figure out
6:18
Speaker 5: what happened, to track down people, to interview the various documents,
6:23
Speaker 5: and so on and so forth. But earlier this year,
6:26
Speaker 5: fifteen years after I first got interested in the story,
6:29
Speaker 5: the book came out. And the book tells the story
6:32
Speaker 5: of this guy from start to finish, from his early
6:36
Speaker 5: promise as a high school valedictorian, as a guy who
6:39
Speaker 5: got an mdphd from the University of Chicago. He had
6:43
Speaker 5: a lot of promise, And then I detail how it
6:46
Speaker 5: all went wrong, first through a series of malpractice lawsuits.
6:50
Speaker 5: Then after those lawsuits added up, he found himself uninsurable,
6:55
Speaker 5: unable to access malpractice insurance, so he wound up answering
6:59
Speaker 5: an online ad for a cash only paying clinic in
7:02
Speaker 5: the town of Portsmouth, Ohio. And I detailed the crimes
7:06
Speaker 5: and another thing which took place over the course of
7:09
Speaker 5: about three years. Another thing that makes this case stand
7:12
Speaker 5: out is that it's kind of rare for people charged
7:15
Speaker 5: with federal crimes to actually go to trial, but Vogman
7:19
Speaker 5: was so insistent on his innocence. Even to this day,
7:22
Speaker 5: he maintains he was a good doctor that his case
7:24
Speaker 5: did go to trial. So there was an eight week
7:27
Speaker 5: trial in twenty eleven in Cincinnati. The government called seventy witnesses.
7:31
Speaker 5: Volkman called ten of his own, and the transcript of
7:35
Speaker 5: that trial is thousands of pages. So I had a
7:37
Speaker 5: lot of material to work with to tell this story
7:41
Speaker 5: and opiate epidemic story in kind of a high amount
7:44
Speaker 5: of detail.
7:45
Speaker 3: And phil you know, this is a subject that we
7:47
Speaker 3: can all relate to because everyone listening today has had
7:51
Speaker 3: someone in their family, someone in their neighborhood, someone they
7:55
Speaker 3: worked with, someone they knew, or whatever that fell into
7:58
Speaker 3: the addiction of scription drugs when they were practically, as
8:02
Speaker 3: you reference, in many locations, and this is certainly not
8:05
Speaker 3: an isolated case. I'm from southern West Virginia. I saw
8:08
Speaker 3: them what just as you described, these cash only pain
8:12
Speaker 3: clinics that didn't look anything. But I can remember seeing
8:15
Speaker 3: the coverage, you know, when they were busted. Most of
8:18
Speaker 3: these didn't look anything like a doctor's office. You know,
8:20
Speaker 3: there's no magazines in there, there's no plants or whatever,
8:23
Speaker 3: no big signage other than something that says pin clinic.
8:26
Speaker 3: But these pills back at this time, we're practically being
8:30
Speaker 3: given away like candy in many, many areas. And I
8:34
Speaker 3: talked about this area, but you talked about Rhode Island.
8:36
Speaker 3: It went on everywhere back in those days.
8:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean the opiate epidemic. I mean, we're now
8:42
Speaker 5: coming up on thirty years since oxyconton was first introduced,
8:45
Speaker 5: that was in nineteen ninety six. That's kind of seen
8:48
Speaker 5: as kind of a big bang moment for this whole thing.
8:51
Speaker 5: So we've been in this for a while, and it's
8:53
Speaker 5: gone through different phases. This story, the crimes take place
8:57
Speaker 5: between two thousand and three and two thousand and six,
8:59
Speaker 5: is a story from kind of that early first phase
9:02
Speaker 5: where it was really prescription drugs driving the issue. And
9:06
Speaker 5: you know, around here there were all too many of
9:08
Speaker 5: these clinics that freely prescribed them. There were pharmacies that
9:13
Speaker 5: just kind of opened the spigot of these pills. Eventually
9:17
Speaker 5: there was a crackdown on that, a crackdown on clinics
9:20
Speaker 5: like Volkman's, and the supply was diminished. But at that
9:23
Speaker 5: point a lot of folks, unfortunately, were addicted, and so
9:26
Speaker 5: they turned to heroin initially. And now we're in the
9:29
Speaker 5: kind of third and really awful fatal phase of this
9:33
Speaker 5: epidemic of a fentanyl epidemic. So this is kind of
9:37
Speaker 5: a prologue in some ways. This story helps explain, I think,
9:42
Speaker 5: to an extent, even though this is a massive story,
9:44
Speaker 5: how we all got here.
9:46
Speaker 3: Talking again with author Phil Aisle, I was reading the reviews,
9:49
Speaker 3: and everyone from the Boston Globe to the Columbus Dispatch
9:53
Speaker 3: to your peers who have written books similar to yours
9:55
Speaker 3: on the whole pill mill crisis, They've all praised the book.
9:58
Speaker 3: Apparently you did pretty well with this, and it's a
10:01
Speaker 3: tough subject. I know you probably don't. I mean, you
10:04
Speaker 3: want the book to do well. You want to sell books, Phil,
10:06
Speaker 3: but I don't think that you're necessarily going to take
10:08
Speaker 3: any glory and the subject matter. But your peers are
10:12
Speaker 3: all saying that this is pretty good.
10:14
Speaker 5: Well, thank you for saying that. I've been so delighted
10:17
Speaker 5: to see the reception. I mean, in my book talks,
10:20
Speaker 5: I say there was a lot of reasons why it
10:22
Speaker 5: took me fifteen years to finish this, and I want
10:24
Speaker 5: to give the impression that I was working on the
10:26
Speaker 5: book every day. I had a whole career as a
10:28
Speaker 5: journalist writing about other stuff. I was also a college teacher.
10:32
Speaker 5: But one of the reasons it took me so long was,
10:35
Speaker 5: to your point, Dave, this was really serious subject matter.
10:38
Speaker 5: It was a guy, a very bright guy, who claimed
10:41
Speaker 5: to be wrongfully accused. If that was true, which I
10:43
Speaker 5: didn't mind up thinking it was, that was certainly a
10:46
Speaker 5: story worth telling. But it was also a story of
10:49
Speaker 5: a guy who contributed to I mean, Portsmouth, Ohio, your
10:53
Speaker 5: listeners might remember, is one of the worst hit places
10:56
Speaker 5: of any town in the country. You know, It's been
10:58
Speaker 5: called ground zero for the opiate epidemic. So this was
11:02
Speaker 5: a guy who was part of that. And as a journalist,
11:05
Speaker 5: there is no bigger responsibility, nothing that I approached with
11:09
Speaker 5: more seriousness and caution than telling the story of folks
11:13
Speaker 5: who have lost their lives. So I really wanted to
11:15
Speaker 5: do that right. I really didn't want this community, which
11:19
Speaker 5: has been, you know, not always treated the best in
11:22
Speaker 5: the press. I didn't want them to feel disrespected by
11:25
Speaker 5: my coverage. Didn't want them to feel like I was
11:27
Speaker 5: just some guy from out of town swooping in one
11:29
Speaker 5: time and then writing a story about one of their
11:32
Speaker 5: worst moments. So I really took my time with this.
11:35
Speaker 5: I mean it's also my first book. I may have
11:37
Speaker 5: bitten off more than I could chew with choosing this
11:40
Speaker 5: story as my first book, but it's been really heartening
11:44
Speaker 5: to hear some of those reviews and some of the
11:46
Speaker 5: blurbs that you referenced.
11:48
Speaker 3: Got a text of the show here, someone? Can we
11:50
Speaker 3: get a lot of texts of the show here? Phil?
11:51
Speaker 3: Somebody said, Ask the author if he's ever heard of
11:54
Speaker 3: Phil Fisher from Huntington, who's now serving I think thirty
11:57
Speaker 3: years in Florida for actually trying to hire a hitman
11:59
Speaker 3: to kill his to gain his parents inheritance, where he
12:02
Speaker 3: lost everything. Being a drug pushing doctor, he was responsible
12:05
Speaker 3: for at least eight deaths, including his own wife. Are
12:07
Speaker 3: you are you familiar with that story?
12:09
Speaker 5: You know, Dave, I'm not, And that's not because it's
12:13
Speaker 5: not an important story. You know, when I go down
12:17
Speaker 5: to this part of the country, whether it's Ohio, Kentucky,
12:19
Speaker 5: West Virginia, people are always saying, well, have you heard
12:21
Speaker 5: of this case or have you heard of this pharmacy?
12:23
Speaker 5: There's so many stories just here. Even when I first
12:26
Speaker 5: went down to Portsmouth, I remember talking to a local
12:29
Speaker 5: TV news reporter asking him if he remembered Volkman, and
12:34
Speaker 5: what I tell him the book is that Volkman came
12:36
Speaker 5: after a number of crooked doctors who were hauled off
12:39
Speaker 5: to prison, and even after he was shut down, a
12:41
Speaker 5: lot of crooked doctors came after him who were hauled
12:44
Speaker 5: off to prison. So even just Importsmouth alone, there's you know,
12:47
Speaker 5: maybe a dozen of these doctors. So I haven't heard
12:50
Speaker 5: of that one, but I'm going to go check it
12:52
Speaker 5: out because it sounds like a crazy story.
12:54
Speaker 3: Where can people get your book? What's the best place
12:56
Speaker 3: to get up?
12:57
Speaker 5: Well, they can come down to Taylor Books tonight on Charlston.
13:00
Speaker 5: But the book is available wherever people get books. It's
13:03
Speaker 5: in libraries, it's on audible if they like to listen
13:06
Speaker 5: to books, Amazon, Barns, and Noble. If it's not at
13:08
Speaker 5: your local library or store, ask them to order it
13:11
Speaker 5: and they should be able to do that prescription for pain.
13:14
Speaker 5: It's really anywhere people get books, they can find it.
13:17
Speaker 3: And again, you're gonna be doing an appearance tonight. I
13:18
Speaker 3: know you've been kind of I've been on a little
13:21
Speaker 3: bit of a tour here. You're gonna be at Taylor
13:22

13:25
Speaker 3: that what I said six o'clock at six o'clock, right,
13:27
Speaker 3: that's right, six o'clock, author of Philip Ayle. I appreciate
13:30
Speaker 3: you being here. Look, it's very difficult subject, but as
13:34
Speaker 3: I said in the middle part of the interview, it's
13:36
Speaker 3: something that I think everybody can relate to. We wish
13:38
Speaker 3: you the best with it. Thanks a lot, Thank you
13:41
Speaker 3: so much for having me on Dave phil Isle again.
13:43
Speaker 3: The book is entitled Prescription for Pain. How a once
13:48
Speaker 3: promising doctor became the pill milk Killer. Totally a true story.
13:52
Speaker 3: The gentleman and I use that term loosely as serving now.
13:54

Speaker 3: Holden is a candidate for Congress District one. He joins
17:38
Speaker 3: us now in the par of Marstore Studio Wes. Good morning,
17:40
Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning to you, Dave, Thank
17:42
Speaker 3: you for being here. First, explain to us the district.
17:45
Speaker 3: You know, we used to have more districts. Now we
17:47
Speaker 3: have two. We only have two, all right, So explain
17:50
Speaker 3: District one to us.
17:51
Speaker 9: Well, District one is like take a map of West
17:54
Speaker 9: Virginia folded in half, so the top half of the
17:58
Speaker 9: map belongs to the District two, the automn half of
18:00
Speaker 9: the map belongs to District one, and then Pendleton County
18:04
Speaker 9: is sort of anomaly, but it, you know, it goes
18:07
Speaker 9: pretty far north. And when I visited them, they have
18:14
Speaker 9: they're more you know, extended to the north end they
18:17
Speaker 9: are with southern West Virginia. But those are great people
18:20
Speaker 9: up there.
18:20
Speaker 3: You said when we were setting this up, you said
18:23
Speaker 3: that you thought it was kind of sad that we
18:25
Speaker 3: only have the two districts. And why do you think that, Well,
18:28
Speaker 3: you just think about it.
18:30
Speaker 9: Back in the early sixties, we used to have five
18:32
Speaker 9: congressional districts, and again, we've had a major loss of population.
18:38
Speaker 9: And I remember when we had four and there was
18:41
Speaker 9: an issue with Eastern Panhandle. You know, they had their
18:44
Speaker 9: own district and people continued leaving West Virginia because they
18:50
Speaker 9: want to seek a better way of life and get jobs.
18:53
Speaker 9: And you can't blame them. Our young people are leaving
18:55
Speaker 9: and we have to stop that.
18:57
Speaker 3: The district is currently served by Congressman McCay miller.
19:00
Speaker 9: Why do you want to see, Well, I feel Carol
19:03
Speaker 9: Miller is not representing West Virginians like we need to
19:07
Speaker 9: be represented. And you know, just take a look at
19:11
Speaker 9: her voting record. Just you know, two quick points I
19:14
Speaker 9: like to point out. According to the afl CIO, Carole
19:19
Speaker 9: Miller has voted eighty two percent against workers during her
19:24
Speaker 9: six years in Congress. And according to the Alliance of
19:27
Speaker 9: Retired Americans, Carole Miller has voted against retirees ninety two
19:32
Speaker 9: percent of the time. And you think about she claims
19:36
Speaker 9: to want to represent West Virginians, but she's voting against
19:39
Speaker 9: West Virginia's best interest.
19:42
Speaker 3: Give us the background on Wess your background, who are you?
19:45
Speaker 9: Well, I'm a tenth generation West Virginian. I worked for
19:51
Speaker 9: Senator Jay Rockefeller for thirty years while he was a
19:56
Speaker 9: US Senator as his deputy State Director, and I was
19:59
Speaker 9: in charge of conc the Constituent Services. And I just
20:02
Speaker 9: want to tell a little story. When I first started
20:06
Speaker 9: working for him, you know, we got involved handling the
20:09
Speaker 9: typical federal bureaucratic problems. You know, people would come with
20:14
Speaker 9: VA black lungs, so security. Then one day I had
20:17
Speaker 9: a gentleman come to me from Winfield and it was
20:21
Speaker 9: a wet spring and river barges were tying up to
20:25
Speaker 9: his trees. And because of the wet spring, when the
20:29
Speaker 9: water being of the barges would pull the trees out
20:32
Speaker 9: of the ground. And so he started having riverbank erosion
20:36
Speaker 9: got within thirty feet of his house. And he went
20:40
Speaker 9: to Senator bird Archmore Bob Wise, and they couldn't help him.
20:44
Speaker 9: And he came to me and they you know, he said,
20:48
Speaker 9: I said, what did the other officers say? They said,
20:49
Speaker 9: it's not a federal problem. And I got to thinking,
20:53
Speaker 9: what if it was me, Who's going to take care
20:57
Speaker 9: of me and look after me? So I decided I
21:01
Speaker 9: would try to help this guy. So I called rock Corpris,
21:04
Speaker 9: I called truck companies. I had to get an emergency
21:07
Speaker 9: permit from the Corps of Engineers and within a week,
21:10
Speaker 9: through the help of volunteers because everyone jumped in and
21:15
Speaker 9: so we saved that guy's riverbank problem. And ever since then,
21:21
Speaker 9: other Congression offices would say, well, we can't help you,
21:25
Speaker 9: but go see Wes. Wes will help you. So and
21:28
Speaker 9: I would take it on as a challenge. And I
21:31
Speaker 9: remember those were days before he had Google or you
21:34
Speaker 9: know that you could look things up and you just
21:37
Speaker 9: had to think by the seat of your pants. And
21:40
Speaker 9: when I left send it a Rockfeller's office. I had
21:44
Speaker 9: a file drawer stuff full of different kinds of cases
21:49
Speaker 9: where I went out of my way and helped people.
21:52
Speaker 9: And I put together a little booklet that I'm going
21:55
Speaker 9: to give to the Division of Culture and History What
21:59
Speaker 9: a real servant does to help the people of West Virginia.
22:04
Speaker 9: That's what I want to do as an independent. I
22:06
Speaker 9: don't want to get caught up in partisan politics. I
22:09
Speaker 9: want to get involved in helping people. There's basket loads
22:13
Speaker 9: of millions and millions of dollars in federal grants, and
22:17
Speaker 9: I want to go after that money, work under the radar,
22:20
Speaker 9: and bring that money back to West Virginia where it belongs.
22:23
Speaker 9: We need a shot in the arm and the Inflation
22:26
Speaker 9: Reduction Act is a way of doing that. And unfortunately
22:31
Speaker 9: Carol Miller wants to repeal that.
22:33
Speaker 8: But you think.
22:34
Speaker 9: About the Inflation Reduction Act, it's three point one billion
22:40
Speaker 9: in a broadband. You know, we saw during COVID schools
22:44
Speaker 9: were closed down. Parents would have to drive their kids
22:47
Speaker 9: to a McDonald's just to get hooked up to the internet.
22:49
Speaker 3: Or sit on the street and from the library, or.
22:51
Speaker 9: Say exactly, we can't do that. This is much like
22:55
Speaker 9: FDR's rural electrification program. He got that goal and that's
23:01
Speaker 9: how we got electricity and telephone service back in these
23:05
Speaker 9: rural areas.
23:06
Speaker 10: We have to.
23:07
Speaker 9: Take advantage and now as a golden opportunity to look ahead.
23:11
Speaker 9: If we don't look ahead, things are going to get
23:14
Speaker 9: terribly worse in West Virginia.
23:16
Speaker 3: Talking to West Holden again, who is a candidate for
23:18
Speaker 3: Congress of District one the Dave Allen Show in five
23:21
Speaker 3: eighty Live President in part about General Hardware of Winfield
23:23
Speaker 3: and Milton and General number of Winfield for all projects
23:26
Speaker 3: big and small. Shop locally visit General Hardware WV dot com.
23:29
Speaker 3: All right, so you mentioned that you are an independent.
23:32
Speaker 3: Of course the general election. In the general election November,
23:35
Speaker 3: voters can vote for anyone any of the parties, and
23:39
Speaker 3: it doesn't matter how they're register they vote for anyone.
23:41
Speaker 3: But why are you an independent?
23:43
Speaker 9: Well, I am not to the far left like a
23:47
Speaker 9: lot of Democrats and are the Democratic agenda or platform
23:51
Speaker 9: that they have in Washington. And my opponent, I feel
23:55
Speaker 9: she's a maga Republican and that's a little too far right.
23:59
Speaker 9: And you watch what's been going on in Congress they
24:03
Speaker 9: have and the other thing that interested me before I
24:07
Speaker 9: decided to run, Republican congressmen were no longer running for
24:13
Speaker 9: office because they felt they couldn't get the job done
24:16
Speaker 9: that they were elected to do. Well, as an independent,
24:20
Speaker 9: I don't have to have any political party tell me
24:24
Speaker 9: you're going to follow this line or that line. I
24:27
Speaker 9: will do what I want and what I feel the
24:30
Speaker 9: people of West Virginia's one of the things that I
24:34
Speaker 9: would like to do if I'm elected. You know, I'm
24:37
Speaker 9: no brain surgeon. I don't know everything about everything. For
24:40
Speaker 9: different parts of this district. But I would like to
24:44
Speaker 9: hold town hall meetings to learn what's on the people's minds.
24:49
Speaker 9: Then I feel I could be a much more effective congressman.
24:54
Speaker 9: I don't want to go meet with select groups of
24:56
Speaker 9: people behind closed doors and say I talk to the
24:59
Speaker 9: people next community. When I've been out campaigning people, they
25:05
Speaker 9: asked me, what do you want to do and whatever,
25:07
Speaker 9: and they tell me that you should run for governor.
25:12
Speaker 8: We like what you're doing. Well.
25:13
Speaker 9: Unfortunately I can't run for governor. But then when I've
25:16
Speaker 9: been out meeting people, they say, I remember you. I
25:20
Speaker 9: remember you when you worked for cinder Rockfeller. You helped me.
25:24
Speaker 9: I remember one time I met this woman she said
25:28
Speaker 9: I remember you, and I started shaking, and she said
25:32
Speaker 9: and she poked her finger at me, and she said,
25:35
Speaker 9: I remember you. Your name and phone number is still
25:39
Speaker 9: on my refrigerator because I know who to call where
25:42
Speaker 9: I could go for help.
25:44
Speaker 3: Talking again with Wes Holden, who was a candidate for Congress, Wes,
25:47
Speaker 3: I think you will admit, and I think anybody would
25:51
Speaker 3: that it is an uphill climb for anyone that doesn't
25:54
Speaker 3: have an R after their name in West Virginia, right now.
25:57
Speaker 3: It hasn't always been that way. You talked about your
25:59
Speaker 3: time with Senator Rockefeller, but anybody it's seemingly who doesn't
26:04
Speaker 3: have the elephant beside their name. It's difficult in what's
26:08
Speaker 3: Virginia right now?
26:09
Speaker 9: Sir, Well, no, that is a fact. And unfortunately, being
26:13
Speaker 9: an independent, I'm sort of flying under the radar. But
26:18
Speaker 9: ever since last year when I had to start collecting signatures,
26:23
Speaker 9: people are telling me we are glad we have a
26:27
Speaker 9: second option because a lot of people just don't want
26:31
Speaker 9: to vote R or D. They're looking for someone. And
26:34
Speaker 9: so I'm always encouraged, energized when I go out campaigning
26:40
Speaker 9: meet people. You know, just this past weekend, I was
26:43
Speaker 9: in Mate one, I was in Jaeger and Welch and
26:48
Speaker 9: you know, you think, who cares about those counties? But
26:51
Speaker 9: those counties gave us their lifeblood. When cold and man booming,
26:55
Speaker 9: they feel forgotten about and a lot of them don't
26:58
Speaker 9: even know who their congress woman is. And so I
27:01
Speaker 9: had to tell them and well, I won't get into that.
27:06
Speaker 9: One thing they said about the congress Oh come on,
27:10
Speaker 9: they called her hardboard Carol, and I go, who's that?
27:15
Speaker 9: You know, why do you call her that. They said,
27:16
Speaker 9: we only see pictures of her. We don't know anything
27:19
Speaker 9: about her. She's never been here, she's not helping us.
27:23
Speaker 9: So those are the people who I want to represent.
27:26
Speaker 9: I want to represent those who don't have an army
27:29
Speaker 9: of lobbyists behind them, who don't cry the loudest, but
27:34
Speaker 9: people who deserve a break and an opportunity. And by
27:38
Speaker 9: going after these federal grants, we can revitalize the coal fields,
27:42
Speaker 9: We can revitalize some of these rural areas that need
27:46
Speaker 9: an economic shot in the arm.
27:48
Speaker 3: West Virginia has had some good announcements with different jobs
27:52
Speaker 3: in a new cores and some of these other things
27:53
Speaker 3: that have come into West Virginia. And you can always
27:56
Speaker 3: look at different you can look at statistics and you
28:00
Speaker 3: can make them say whatever that you want them to say.
28:04
Speaker 3: Some statistics say that people are coming to West Virginia.
28:06
Speaker 3: The problem is, though, is that people are dying more
28:10
Speaker 3: quickly because we have the oldest population. How if you're
28:13
Speaker 3: elected Congress, I mean you got to do a little
28:14
Speaker 3: cell job with your congressman, senator, governor whatever. What do
28:18
Speaker 3: you tell people that want to you talked about how
28:20
Speaker 3: many generations your family's been here. What do you tell
28:22
Speaker 3: people about Western.
28:23
Speaker 9: Well, when I go to you know, you have to
28:25
Speaker 9: remember the western side of the state is doing well economically.
28:30
Speaker 9: We've had since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act,
28:33
Speaker 9: we've had four major corporations come here. But when I
28:37
Speaker 9: go to Raleigh County, Nicholas County, or the southern part
28:41
Speaker 9: of the state, they say the economic development stops at
28:44
Speaker 9: Kanawa County. Then I go to Monroe County, Gilmour County,
28:49
Speaker 9: Mercer County, they say it all stops at Raleigh County.
28:53
Speaker 9: And what I want to do, I want to do
28:55
Speaker 9: imitate Senator Rockefeller. He used to have what we call
29:00
Speaker 9: Jay trains and he would fill up a bus for
29:04
Speaker 9: businesses or business people in West Virginia, work with the
29:07
Speaker 9: West Virginia Economic Development Office and bring these businesses to
29:12
Speaker 9: different parts of the state so that they could be
29:15
Speaker 9: interested in maybe starting a new business there or bring
29:20
Speaker 9: a branch business there. That's what has to happen and
29:24
Speaker 9: West Virginia, rural West Virginia needs that shot in the arm.
29:28
Speaker 9: We need more funding for infrastructure, We need more funding
29:33
Speaker 9: for education. You can't blame teachers for the problems that
29:37
Speaker 9: they're facing.
29:38
Speaker 5: We have to do more.
29:40
Speaker 9: And you know something else that I thought was very sad.
29:46
Speaker 9: I would, you know, talk to people or county governments.
29:49
Speaker 9: Do you have a grant writer? They don't even have
29:52
Speaker 9: a grant writer. I would like to institute a pilot
29:55
Speaker 9: program to hire grant writers, to get them trained and
30:00
Speaker 9: then let the government pay. You know, grant writers have
30:04
Speaker 9: to be specialized. You just can't necessarily pick someone off
30:07
Speaker 9: the street.
30:08
Speaker 3: Very difficult, exactly.
30:09
Speaker 9: And there's all kinds of federal programs out there that
30:13
Speaker 9: it's not raising taxes. The money is already there, it's
30:16
Speaker 9: already been allocated. Let's go after that money and put
30:21
Speaker 9: in infrastructure, put in so new businesses could come here.
30:25
Speaker 9: That's what I want to do. I'm not interested in politics.
30:28
Speaker 9: My job is to take care of my fellow West Virginians.
30:32
Speaker 3: Where could people learn more about your campaign?
30:34
Speaker 9: Well, that is a good question. My campaign website is
30:39
Speaker 9: WES number four WV dot com. If you would like
30:43
Speaker 9: to look at my Facebook as Wes for WV Okay.
30:50
Speaker 3: I always do the thing of my candidates, WES. When
30:52
Speaker 3: I call the final thirty and you're not necessarily on
30:54
Speaker 3: the clock, but give me thirty seconds for the listeners,
30:57
Speaker 3: why should someone vote for Wes Holding for Congress and
30:59
Speaker 3: district Well.
31:00
Speaker 9: If being a lifelong West Virginian, it's disheartening to see
31:04
Speaker 9: our state at the bottom of the rankings. You know,
31:07
Speaker 9: areas such as family income, education, housing, childcare, real health care, infrastructure,
31:13
Speaker 9: quality of life. For far too long, we've been stuck
31:16
Speaker 9: in a cycle of poverty, under investment and ineffective leadership.
31:21
Speaker 9: West Virginia has been stuck in a state of persistent
31:25
Speaker 9: poverty for years. The root of our problem is just
31:28
Speaker 9: not economic. I believe it's political. Our current leaders seem
31:32
Speaker 9: more interested in culture wars and divisive legislation than addressing
31:36
Speaker 9: the real issues that affect average West Virginians. And I
31:40
Speaker 9: feel every county deserves economic opportunities, not just the counties
31:45
Speaker 9: along the Ohio River.
31:47

Speaker 4: what it takes to create jobs. We need Mark Carter
33:51
Speaker 4: in District fifty seven.
33:52
Speaker 13: All of us are struggling with the inflation caused by
33:55
Speaker 13: Biden and Harris. I have worked with employers paying great
33:58
Speaker 13: wages to bring them to West Virginia. I'm committed to
34:00
Speaker 13: doing it again.
34:01
Speaker 4: Mark Carter is running for House of Delegates to improve
34:04
Speaker 4: our economy and create better paying jobs for our families.
34:07
Speaker 3: Let's elect a pro jobs leader to the House.
34:10
Speaker 13: I am Mark Carter and I would appreciate your vote
34:12
Speaker 13: for House of Delegates.
34:13
Speaker 4: Paid for by Mark Carter for West Virginia.
34:19
Speaker 3: They t it away from Jamaday Islands showed five day
34:22
Speaker 3: Live brought to you probably by Hustin's Pizza. This month
34:24
Speaker 3: iss your favorite Hustans get a large at and edge
34:26
Speaker 3: Pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie only
34:28
Speaker 3: twenty three ninety nine. Going back to the interview with
34:32
Speaker 3: o' phill isle earlier, Texas Dave, why didn't CEOs from
34:35
Speaker 3: these pharmaceutical companies go to prison instead of getting off
34:38
Speaker 3: of deals to stay in business and keep their billions?
34:41
Speaker 3: As a text, Texter says, speaking of congressional representatives, not
34:45
Speaker 3: that Republicans or Conservatives care about facts and reality, but
34:49
Speaker 3: the facts and reality are Republicans. North Carolina Republicans and
34:52
Speaker 3: Rown Alex Mooney voted against funding for FEMA before Hurricane Helene,
34:56
Speaker 3: and the current Republican Speaker of the House refuses to
34:59
Speaker 3: call in the Republican Congress for a special session to
35:02
Speaker 3: fund the Helene disaster. The only people conspiring to make
35:04
Speaker 3: things difficult for Americans are Republicans, says a texture. Texas says, Unfortunately,
35:09
Speaker 3: the people of West Virginia will voting Carol Miller again,
35:11
Speaker 3: even after giving herself a three million dollar loan for
35:14
Speaker 3: their car business. For giving herself of that loan then
35:17
Speaker 3: letting her son campaign for governor, and how they helped
35:19
Speaker 3: their employees and what they and how they're fysically responsible.
35:23
Speaker 3: Bottom dwellers do bottom dweller stuff, says a texture. Tex says,
35:27
Speaker 3: an old timey big government politician go after government grants,
35:30
Speaker 3: means tax and spind to meet. Tex says Rockefeller brought
35:36
Speaker 3: Toyota to West Virginia. Texas, West Virginia doesn't sound hateful
35:40
Speaker 3: enough to become a West Virginia congressman. He needs to
35:42
Speaker 3: create some fake issues to rage about and some minority
35:45
Speaker 3: group to direct that rage acts texts says Cardboard Carol Lol,
35:52
Speaker 3: very Trump esque. The Texter go to Tomars show. West Virginia.
35:55
Speaker 3: Secretary of State Mac Warner is going to be here.
35:57
Speaker 3: There is a need a big one for pole war
36:00
Speaker 3: workers in West Virginia for the general election, particularly canaw
36:03
Speaker 3: and Putnam County Secretary of Warner's office on a massive
36:06
Speaker 3: recruiting campaign now to get poll workers. And we will
36:08
Speaker 3: discuss it with him tomorrow. Plus coming up on the
36:11
Speaker 3: show tomorrow, Brian mcilhanny, if the schedule works out, because
36:15
Speaker 3: you know they are in the special session and interims
36:17
Speaker 3: and everything. So and speaking of which, I got to
36:19
Speaker 3: get this story in before good Man. I promise I'll
36:21
Speaker 3: get to the mayor momentarily as I mentioned the special
36:23
Speaker 3: session and interims. Continuing to den to the Capitol Dome.
36:26
Speaker 3: Following along with Brad of course wv metronews dot com
36:29
Speaker 3: and on the social media platforms and online and on air.
36:32
Speaker 3: With all the talk about surplus funds and the governor's
36:34
Speaker 3: proposed tax cuts, etc. There is one bill that kind
36:38
Speaker 3: of sticks out. Several delegates have introduced a bill requesting
36:41
Speaker 3: the legislature to quote not recognize an illegitimate presidential election
36:46
Speaker 3: end quote. It's House Concurrent Resolution two oh three, introduced
36:49
Speaker 3: by Delegates Marguito Mazzaki of Logan County and Delegates Henry
36:53
Speaker 3: Dillon of Wayne to Todd Logenager of Greenbrier and elyaus
36:57
Speaker 3: Coopgnzales of Randolph. I'm not making this. The bill says, quote,
37:01
Speaker 3: the Democrats led regime has utterly failed and continued to
37:05
Speaker 3: fail in a suspicious manner, and its absolute duty to
37:08
Speaker 3: adequately protect the nominee for president. The resolution goes on
37:13
Speaker 3: to say there is an abundant evidence that non citizens
37:17
Speaker 3: have been and are being registered to vote in the
37:19
Speaker 3: national election of twenty twenty four, among other suspicious acts,
37:23
Speaker 3: and the state will not recognize the elected president in
37:26
Speaker 3: twenty twenty four. But oh wait, it gets better. The
37:29
Speaker 3: resolution continues that West Virginia will not recognize any Democrat
37:33
Speaker 3: candidate for president if the Republican candidate is assassinated, injured
37:38
Speaker 3: during an assassination attempt, incarcerated, or in any way barred
37:42
Speaker 3: from any state ballot. Seriously not making that up. I
37:47
Speaker 3: wish I were. But Dave Island showing five D Live,
37:50
Speaker 3: brought to you pired by Mortgan to Mortgan, America's largest
37:52
Speaker 3: injury law firm. Let me welcome into the show now,
37:54
Speaker 3: Charleston Mayer, Amy Schuller, good one.
37:56
Speaker 14: Howre you doing great?
37:58
Speaker 15: How is your chili eating? I, along with Brian Hughes
38:03
Speaker 15: of thirteen and Senator Eric Nelson and Jaseiverman of the
38:08
Speaker 15: Dirdy Birds got tasked.
38:10
Speaker 3: With being a chili judge in the fall y'all competition,
38:14
Speaker 3: in saying all but its big party wasn't.
38:15
Speaker 16: Just that, No, it's really great. It's a great A
38:18
Speaker 16: lot of folks go. It's a great time. I always
38:19
Speaker 16: get nervous doing those things. Always get nervous, although I
38:22
Speaker 16: will brag my husband won like twenty years ago the
38:27
Speaker 16: Charleston Chili cook Off.
38:28
Speaker 14: Many many many many many years.
38:29
Speaker 3: Well, we don't know not the cup. People don't understand
38:32
Speaker 3: though when you judge these things, if you do them right,
38:33
Speaker 3: we don't know who we're voting on.
38:35
Speaker 14: That's but it's still stressed as all as we.
38:37
Speaker 3: Get as a number and then afterwards somebody will you know,
38:39
Speaker 3: comment here and there, but we don't know.
38:40
Speaker 14: It's it's just a to give you a number and
38:43
Speaker 14: a cup.
38:43
Speaker 3: Well now that now that's why I found that statement funny.
38:47
Speaker 3: Now that you have dual citizenship with WVU and Marshall
38:51
Speaker 3: is one of the good one young and just playing
38:53
Speaker 3: in the band in Marshall. Saturday was a good day.
38:55
Speaker 16: For w as well, yeah, it was a great day.
38:59
Speaker 16: Great day has been as one of those crazy tailgaters
39:01
Speaker 16: that likes to have the TV in the back of
39:03
Speaker 16: the car. He does that so as we're watching the
39:05
Speaker 16: Marshall game, he's running back to watch the the TV
39:09
Speaker 16: at halftime for the the WVU game. But it was
39:12
Speaker 16: it was great, just amazing energy in Huntington over the weekend.
39:17
Speaker 16: And they did I mean both teams. That's that's uh,
39:20
Speaker 16: you know, we're I hate to say this, but you know,
39:23
Speaker 16: my dad was disappointed in the outcome of the Steelers
39:25
Speaker 16: Cowboys game.
39:25
Speaker 3: I was going to say that because.
39:27
Speaker 16: You know, my people are Steelers people. Sorry about that,
39:29
Speaker 16: but they are.
39:30
Speaker 3: Sorry. Ray Whiting, I love I love you too, except
39:34
Speaker 3: for that three hour you know, the game was delayed
39:36
Speaker 3: by light.
39:37
Speaker 14: Now my nephew is there.
39:39
Speaker 3: It didn't end at one o'clock. I guess who stayed
39:41
Speaker 3: up till one o'clock to watch it the.
39:42
Speaker 14: Scring You and Ray?
39:44
Speaker 3: Yeah? Me and Ray yeah yeah, back text Texan back
39:47
Speaker 3: and forth. But yeah, I'm going to say this and
39:48
Speaker 3: I'll go how about them Cowboys? All right?
39:51
Speaker 14: So Ray, I'm sorry.
39:52
Speaker 3: City Council meets tonight from the.
39:55
Speaker 14: Agenda you know, just a couple of things.
39:57
Speaker 16: It's you know, the real work work that we do,
40:02
Speaker 16: you know, every day, authorizing you know, officers to be
40:10
Speaker 16: prevention police officers in some of our schools, you know,
40:13
Speaker 16: Capital and GW just to name two, a lot of
40:18
Speaker 16: grants and grant submissions. We get approval to do a lot,
40:21
Speaker 16: you know. Council you know sometimes last just an hour,
40:25
Speaker 16: but it takes us months and years to do a
40:27
Speaker 16: lot of the work that we do. And you see
40:30
Speaker 16: that in as I always say, sometimes a vote will
40:34
Speaker 16: take you know, ninety seconds on something that we've worked
40:37
Speaker 16: on for two weeks. And that's kind of the agenda tonight.
40:42
Speaker 16: Mainly the real work of city government, making sure that
40:45
Speaker 16: we're providing our police officers the equipment that they need
40:48
Speaker 16: and our departments the equipment that they need, and continuing
40:53
Speaker 16: with our banking services. You know, votes like that, that's
40:56
Speaker 16: the that's what you get normally out of City Council.
41:00
Speaker 16: So truthfully, is us just monitoring.
41:05
Speaker 3: To see it go ahead?
41:07
Speaker 16: I mean, you know, you know that that the work,
41:10
Speaker 16: the work that we were elected to do every day.
41:13
Speaker 14: It's not the it's not the sexy work.
41:15
Speaker 16: But you know, October is a very busy month in
41:17
Speaker 16: the city of Charleston. Lots of events are happening in
41:20
Speaker 16: the city of Charleston. You know, I will say this,
41:23
Speaker 16: There are I know what you say. Ready, there are
41:27
Speaker 16: more calls about Halloween and when Halloween is in the
41:30
Speaker 16: Christmas Parade probably than any other call with exception, with exception.
41:34
Speaker 14: Which I'll tell you what those are.
41:35
Speaker 16: Those are thirty First is trigger treat not only in
41:38
Speaker 16: the city but the entire county. And then, of course
41:41
Speaker 16: our Christmas Parade is on which we're getting ready to
41:44
Speaker 16: announce the theme. I didn't realize people really liked the theme,
41:48
Speaker 16: but they really do. People are asking me about a
41:50
Speaker 16: theme now since we started a theme a couple of
41:52
Speaker 16: years ago. For our evening parade that's going to be
41:54
Speaker 16: on Thursday, December, there'sday they're going to be applications to
42:01
Speaker 16: be in the parade that are going to open up
42:03
Speaker 16: this week.
42:03
Speaker 14: But those are two calls we get.
42:05
Speaker 16: But the main call that we get between October and
42:08
Speaker 16: November are about and by the way, this is the
42:11
Speaker 16: number one call that we get, although a lot of
42:14
Speaker 16: proactive calls happen this way.
42:16
Speaker 14: Are about leaves.
42:17
Speaker 3: Leaves.
42:18
Speaker 16: Leaves when people say, let me tell you what people
42:20
Speaker 16: are saying in the church city of Charleston, Namy. This
42:22
Speaker 16: is what people are talking about. And you and I
42:24
Speaker 16: have talked about this that nauseum. I know what they're
42:26
Speaker 16: talking about because I keep a record of every single
42:28
Speaker 16: call that comes in. Who's calling me? Why are they
42:31
Speaker 16: calling me? Did we fix their problem? Did we not
42:33
Speaker 16: fix their problem? And the number one far and away
42:36
Speaker 16: since we've started many years ago, actually keeping a tab
42:40
Speaker 16: and a system which is called q Alert. It's a
42:42
Speaker 16: customer management system. You're a customer, Yeah you're calling in,
42:46
Speaker 16: but I look at you as a customer of mine.
42:49
Speaker 16: You pay our salaries. What am I doing for you today?
42:53
Speaker 16: It's about leaves and we start leave collection on October
42:57
Speaker 16: the twenty eighth.
42:58
Speaker 14: And keep in mind, you know some it's.
43:00
Speaker 16: Been kind of weird because the same trucks that we
43:02
Speaker 16: use to do the leave collections, or same trucks that
43:04
Speaker 16: we use to do are salting in our snow removal,
43:07
Speaker 16: our scrapers are put on. It takes a while, by
43:10
Speaker 16: the way, you can't just pop one of those babies
43:12
Speaker 16: on and off.
43:13
Speaker 14: It takes our team a while.
43:15
Speaker 16: But just so people know, because it is the number
43:18
Speaker 16: one call we have gotten for the past years and
43:20
Speaker 16: years and years in the City of Charleston. During your
43:22
Speaker 16: normal trash collection day, you can shove those leaves or
43:28
Speaker 16: have them ready by the side or in front of
43:31
Speaker 16: the house. Please don't put them in drains. Please don't
43:33
Speaker 16: put them in drums. You may bag them. A lot
43:36
Speaker 16: of people don't do them. But if you bag them
43:38
Speaker 16: in bags, we will pick them up. But we suggest
43:43
Speaker 16: that people put them out there and we will pick
43:45
Speaker 16: them up. Then a lot of people will say, well,
43:48
Speaker 16: can you come back and get us. Sometimes we can,
43:51
Speaker 16: sometimes we can't. A big windstorm or big rainstorm, our
43:55
Speaker 16: guys are flying all over the city of Charleston. But
43:58
Speaker 16: for the most part, it's gonna city on Monday and Tuesday.
44:01
Speaker 16: If you live in the South Hills area, it'sday and
44:03
Speaker 16: Wednesday and Thursday. And west Side North Charleston East End
44:06
Speaker 16: that's on Friday. So canas city Monday, Tuesday, South Hills Wednesday, Thursday.
44:12
Speaker 16: West Side North Charleston East End are on Friday. And
44:16
Speaker 16: you know, we get a lot of calls. We'll take
44:18
Speaker 16: those calls three four eight eight thousand. If you have
44:21
Speaker 16: a question about it, if you want to know, uh,
44:23
Speaker 16: some specifics about it, but it is the thing that
44:26
Speaker 16: we do.
44:26
Speaker 14: We do municipal government.
44:28
Speaker 16: I know everybody wants us to get in here and
44:30
Speaker 16: start yelling and screaming.
44:31
Speaker 14: The work that we do is work for the people.
44:34
Speaker 16: The work that we spend the most time on, by
44:36
Speaker 16: the way, is things like you know, leave collection. And
44:39
Speaker 16: by the way, we're the only city that does this.
44:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to a cities away of us
44:45
Speaker 3: that don't have that services.
44:47
Speaker 16: And I'll be honest with you, there has been conversation
44:49
Speaker 16: of do we do this. We do it because we
44:52
Speaker 16: want to keep our drains clear and free. All other
44:56
Speaker 16: communities that I personally know, if somebody can tell me
44:58
Speaker 16: one and I just don't know, don't do it because
45:01
Speaker 16: it is extremely time consuming and we can't get everybody.
45:05
Speaker 14: We just simply can't get everybody all the time.
45:07
Speaker 16: And oh, by the way, when you want us to
45:09
Speaker 16: be there, sometimes we've already gone by.
45:12
Speaker 14: Or sometimes you say, well, I.
45:14
Speaker 16: You know, I'm off work on Saturday and Sunday, and
45:16
Speaker 16: so I pushed them all to but the you know,
45:18
Speaker 16: the rain or the wind came on Monday, Tuesday, and
45:21
Speaker 16: so by Wednesday, you know, all my leaves are gone.
45:24
Speaker 16: We try to do our very very best and so
45:26
Speaker 16: it's we get a lot of a lot of calls
45:29
Speaker 16: about that, and our guys take a lot of grief.
45:31
Speaker 16: But it is a service we do not charge for.
45:35
Speaker 16: But it is very time consuming and it is costly,
45:38
Speaker 16: but we do believe that there is a savings at
45:40
Speaker 16: the end of the day. But you know, again, this
45:43
Speaker 16: is our municipal work that we do. We just wrapped
45:46
Speaker 16: up paving. This paving cycle. I will say, was it
45:51
Speaker 16: really made me, I'll be honest, really made me nervous
45:53
Speaker 16: in the beginning because we started a smidge late then
45:57
Speaker 16: we normally start. But they got it done in record time.
46:01
Speaker 16: A couple things we had to go back and just tweak.
46:03
Speaker 16: But this has been ooh, not gone for Mica. This
46:07
Speaker 16: has been one of the better paving seasons. And you know,
46:11
Speaker 16: everybody wants every road paved and every pothole.
46:15
Speaker 14: You can still make those calls.
46:16
Speaker 16: To us by the way and by the way ospot
46:18
Speaker 16: playing store, and we can still go out in cold patch,
46:20
Speaker 16: which I have done.
46:22
Speaker 14: It's really difficult to do.
46:23
Speaker 16: It's hot and it's a lot of upper body strength.
46:26
Speaker 16: So it's a good workout for me when I go
46:28
Speaker 16: do it. But we can still do that, so please
46:31
Speaker 16: don't stop calling. And also, you know I talked to
46:36
Speaker 16: a big group that was on Alexandria Place who said,
46:39
Speaker 16: you know, you did two other roads right beside mine
46:41
Speaker 16: and you skipped my road.
46:42
Speaker 14: Why did you do that?
46:43
Speaker 16: Well, because I got to do two new drains there
46:46
Speaker 16: this fall, and I didn't want to pave a road
46:48
Speaker 16: and by the way, rip it up and then redo it.
46:50
Speaker 16: By the way, that happens, and it drives me not
46:54
Speaker 16: But accidents happen, and some of our utilities, you know,
46:58
Speaker 16: we pave it, and our utilities come in and say, no,
47:01
Speaker 16: we have a you know, we have a busted line,
47:03
Speaker 16: or we have to do this, and you know, we
47:05
Speaker 16: work with them to make sure that they're picking up
47:06
Speaker 16: the cost for that.
47:07
Speaker 14: But it is. It's troublesome, There's no question about it.
47:11
Speaker 3: Ninem fifty four. Speaking of potholes, I got a text
47:14
Speaker 3: about one. I'm gonna tell me, I'm I'm going to
47:16
Speaker 3: take a break and I will talk about this person's pothole.

47:53

48:01
Speaker 17: that everyone's getting along by working hard for you instead

50:16
Speaker 3: you don't know can hurt you. Text mayor says, I
50:19
Speaker 3: know it's a state road, but can the city do
50:21
Speaker 3: anything to address the thirty fifth Street manhole? That thing
50:24
Speaker 3: is messing up cars by the day.
50:26
Speaker 16: Yeah, I will, obviously I will send this to our
50:30
Speaker 16: doh liaison, but I will say this. I appreciate you
50:34
Speaker 16: letting me know, because yes, I mean other mayors. We
50:37
Speaker 16: have this conversation all the time. Nothing frustrated me more
50:39
Speaker 16: though when I was not mayor to say, yeah, but
50:42
Speaker 16: I live in the city and this is a road
50:44
Speaker 16: in my city. I don't really care who is it,
50:45
Speaker 16: and really they shouldn't. You shouldn't care who is supposed
50:48
Speaker 16: to be maintaining the road if it's in these thirty
50:50
Speaker 16: three square miles. Let me know about it. Doesn't mean
50:53
Speaker 16: I can do anything about it immediately, But what I
50:56
Speaker 16: can do, and what you pay me to do, is
50:58
Speaker 16: to work with them and have good relationships to say,
51:00
Speaker 16: can we get this fixed? Because everybody knows more. Coracle
51:04
Speaker 16: and Kano City has been a trouble for a very
51:07
Speaker 16: long period of time.
51:08
Speaker 3: Let me get a couple more in fy for the mayor.
51:11
Speaker 3: She passed this on our way to work. There's a
51:13
Speaker 3: flag sign that's been up for over six weeks. Signs
51:15
Speaker 3: a step for long periods of time cause accidents at
51:18
Speaker 3: the three way stop on Oakwood Road.
51:22
Speaker 14: Flag signs.
51:23
Speaker 3: That's what it says. I guess they're saying, flagger ahead.
51:26
Speaker 3: It's kind of what I took that. And in that
51:27
Speaker 3: there actually is nobody there. And we see that a lot.
51:30
Speaker 3: We do see that, and not just here but in
51:33
Speaker 3: other places as well. So the mayor's leaking into a
51:35
Speaker 3: Texas for the hold on for the mayor. My mother
51:38
Speaker 3: lives on Hendrix' Avenue and there are, of all things,
51:41
Speaker 3: raccoons around her house. The horrific thing is they're eating us,
51:44
Speaker 3: eating baby kittens. And then what Trump said, can someone
51:48
Speaker 3: please do something about the raccoons, raccoons and leaves mayor?
51:55
Speaker 14: Yeah, I got it, I got it.
51:56
Speaker 16: Yeah, listen, I mean that's I live in a wooded
52:00
Speaker 16: area as well. We lost all of our chickens, all
52:06
Speaker 16: of our chickens to coyotes. You had two of them, yeah, six,
52:09
Speaker 16: I don't want to talk about.
52:10
Speaker 14: It's bad. Yeah, it was.
52:12
Speaker 3: We were devastated victims of foul playing.
52:14
Speaker 14: Dated, very funny, very far. I do appreciate the caller though,
52:17
