- 0:00Speaker 1: We will go to Notre Dame.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Finally, something involving the big 10 on this show, by
- 0:05Speaker 2: the way.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, okay.
- 0:07Speaker 3: It's not my fault that your schedule.
- 0:13Speaker 4: I hate to throw any shade toward the greatest conference
- 0:16Speaker 4: ever assembled, but for all the crap that the SEC
- 0:20Speaker 4: gets for the FCS week, this is an FCS week
- 0:23Speaker 4: for the big 10.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And I just, It's not good. At least we do
- 0:27Speaker 1: it early. Yeah, I will give you that. At least
- 0:30Speaker 1: it's early. This is a terrible... We do it early, too.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's called week two.
- 0:33Speaker 1: We do it in November.
- 0:35Speaker 3: We got rid of that for the nine-game conference schedule.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We just got rid of that. Yeah, just this year.
- 0:41Speaker 1: This is a terrible week for the Big Ten.
- 0:43Speaker 3: So.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's like Laura Rutledge saying, oh, they play an arduous
- 0:46Speaker 1: nine-game schedule. They haven't done it yet. Yeah, using that
- 0:50Speaker 1: as justification for the last two years of playoffs is wild.
- 0:53Speaker 1: No Laura Rutledge slinger will be allowed on this podcast, though.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'll quit today. Shout out to Gov. Oh, I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:02Speaker 1: she's good at what she does, but that's not why
- 1:03Speaker 1: I was saying that. But I love you, Laura. Oh,
- 1:08Speaker 1: my God. Presented by PrizePix, of course. Michigan State. Tom,
- 1:12Speaker 1: because it is the Big Ten, we'll finally get to
- 1:14Speaker 1: your conference. Do they have....
- 1:18Speaker 4: What is the realistic outlook here for this game? Because
- 1:20Speaker 4: it just doesn't look great, even though we picked it
- 1:22Speaker 4: in this one.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Notre Dame has looked as advertised thus far. Granted,
- 1:28Speaker 2: their opponents have been Wisconsin. That game was in Lambeau.
- 1:31Speaker 3: And then Rice.
- 1:33Speaker 2: So what have we really learned about them so far?
- 1:36Speaker 2: The concept of Leave No Doubt from Marcus Freeman. very,
- 1:40Speaker 2: very evident. I like what I see thus far from
- 1:41Speaker 2: Notre Dame. It's very hard to poke holes in it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And again, a lot of that is based on the competition.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I don't think it's necessarily going to take a huge
- 1:48Speaker 2: step up. Yes, this is technically a rivalry game. It's
- 1:51Speaker 2: not been played in some time. Michigan State under Pat Fitzgerald,
- 1:56Speaker 2: I believe in what he is able to instill in
- 1:59Speaker 2: a football team from a culture standpoint, hard-hitting, physical. I
- 2:05Speaker 2: think the best case scenario for Michigan State is to
- 2:07Speaker 2: duplicate what Wisconsin did in the first half against Notre Dame.
- 2:12Speaker 2: If you can keep this thing tight, I still expect
- 2:15Speaker 2: Notre Dame to pull away in the second half. This
- 2:17Speaker 2: is kind of a classic Michigan State offense in that
- 2:20Speaker 2: they want to run the football consistently with Cam Edwards
- 2:23Speaker 2: in both games. He's had 21 carries or more. They
- 2:26Speaker 2: love that bell cow running back in East Lansing. I
- 2:29Speaker 2: just don't think they're going to have the same success
- 2:31Speaker 2: that they've had in their first two games against Notre Dame.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I think Notre Dame's defense is going to be able
- 2:36Speaker 2: to bottle up Cam Edwards. You're going to make Milivojevic,
- 2:40Speaker 2: I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly, the quarterback. I actually
- 2:42Speaker 2: like him as one of the quarterbacks in the Big
- 2:44Speaker 2: Ten that's competent and stable, but this is not necessarily
- 2:48Speaker 2: a good matchup for him. I think for Notre Dame,
- 2:50Speaker 2: it's continuing to tinker with the offenses. Who is a
- 2:53Speaker 2: threat outside of Jordan Faison? I think they have multiple options,
- 2:57Speaker 2: but who's going to step up and just kind of
- 2:59Speaker 2: take that position, essentially demand touches throughout the game. Aeneas Williams,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I think he's settling in being running back number one,
- 3:07Speaker 2: but I've been a proponent for many years. You don't
- 3:09Speaker 2: need to have the absolute star running back like a
- 3:12Speaker 2: Jeremiah Love to have a successful running game. This offensive
- 3:16Speaker 2: line is good. I think they'd like to have more success,
- 3:18Speaker 2: for instance, than they did against Wisconsin. I think they're
- 3:20Speaker 2: going to find those opportunities against Michigan State. But Notre
- 3:23Speaker 2: Dame is just tinkering, I think, at this point. I
- 3:26Speaker 2: want to continue to see CJ Carr look comfortable in
- 3:28Speaker 2: the pocket. He's not been put in any situations where
- 3:31Speaker 2: he has to put the team on his back. I
- 3:33Speaker 2: don't think that's going to happen in this situation. He
- 3:35Speaker 2: plays within the offense. He makes good decisions. He takes
- 3:38Speaker 2: care of the football. This is just tinkering right now
- 3:41Speaker 2: for Notre Dame. You just want to get in, get
- 3:43Speaker 2: out healthy. I expect Notre Dame to win this game.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Michigan State is going to need a lot of things
- 3:48Speaker 2: to break their way in terms of turnovers and oopsie-daisy
- 3:51Speaker 2: types of situations. They need to run the football really,
- 3:54Speaker 2: really well, but I just don't see those openings happening
- 3:56Speaker 2: against Notre Dame.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Hey, guys, I'll get right back to the show, but
- 3:59Speaker 4: first I want to tell you about our friends over
- 4:01Speaker 4: at PrizePix. All new users there who play a $ 5
- 4:03Speaker 4: lineup and win get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they've
- 4:07Speaker 4: used code HMA. This week on The Power 2 over
- 4:10Speaker 4: on the College Football Addiction main channel.
- 4:11Speaker 1: We picked.
- 4:13Speaker 4: these picks that you see on the screen, Mensa, Tony Lacey, Levitt,
- 4:18Speaker 4: and Trinidad.
- 4:19Speaker 1: A lot of these can be adjusted.
- 4:20Speaker 4: So we took the more on everything, but some of
- 4:23Speaker 4: us took the more on Trinidad to have one passing touchdown.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Some of us took the more on him to have 1.5
- 4:28Speaker 4: or 3.5. Some of us took the more on Sam
- 4:31Speaker 4: Levitt at 2.5 passing touchdowns. Key one Lacey has a
- 4:34Speaker 4: bunch of different options that we took the more on.
- 4:36Speaker 1: You can take more than 76. You can take more
- 4:37Speaker 1: than 69.5. You can take more than 39.5. If you
- 4:39Speaker 1: just want to try and play it safe, Malachi Tony
- 4:44Speaker 1: at 0.5 touchdowns. I took the more there. You can
- 4:46Speaker 1: go all the way up to 2.5.
- 4:47Speaker 4: If you think he goes off against wake, go check
- 4:50Speaker 4: out the price picks app, take the more on everything,
- 4:52Speaker 4: but adjust it to where your comfort level is. Go
- 4:56Speaker 4: check out them. Go check out the live show of
- 4:58Speaker 4: the power to make sure you are subscribed.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Now back to the clip.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Cam Edwards has been very impressive in my opinion, because of,
- 5:04Speaker 3: because Cam Edwards, I thought was really good last season
- 5:06Speaker 3: at Yukon could have gone anywhere in the country. And
- 5:08Speaker 3: he chose to go to East Lansing to be the
- 5:09Speaker 3: bell cow back for the Spartans. And, It's paid on off.
- 5:12Speaker 3: He's averaging roughly around 5.2 yards a play. Now, again,
- 5:15Speaker 3: it's Toledo and it's EMU. But still, you finally have
- 5:19Speaker 3: a lead running back that you feel can be a
- 5:21Speaker 3: difference maker and be an enforcer for your team in
- 5:24Speaker 3: a way that you haven't had for probably three or
- 5:26Speaker 3: four years now. That being said, Notre Dame comes in
- 5:29Speaker 3: as the 14th ranked run defense in the country. So
- 5:31Speaker 3: they're going to do everything in their power to shut
- 5:33Speaker 3: down number zero and force Milovich to be able to
- 5:36Speaker 3: beat them through the year. That's just the bottom line.
- 5:39Speaker 3: What I will say that I want to learn more
- 5:41Speaker 3: about Notre Dame, because right now I think that what
- 5:43Speaker 3: we say is that if you play close and you lose,
- 5:46Speaker 3: Michigan State, there's something that is trending upward towards the
- 5:50Speaker 3: identity of what this team could be with Paffett Sherald
- 5:52Speaker 3: in year one. But I think it's the only way
- 5:55Speaker 3: that we're absolutely floored of whatever the result is, is
- 5:58Speaker 3: if they end up winning that football game, which I
- 6:00Speaker 3: don't think that they will. But I want to learn
- 6:02Speaker 3: more about Notre Dame's rushing attack. Because of, yes, I
- 6:05Speaker 3: know that you have Aeneas Williams and he has been
- 6:07Speaker 3: phenomenal as a prospect coming on in. A lot of
- 6:11Speaker 3: people had high hopes for him and Mike Dembrock's offense
- 6:13Speaker 3: going into another season. And now knowing that he didn't
- 6:16Speaker 3: have to be exactly what Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price were,
- 6:19Speaker 3: just a good solid running back that can open up
- 6:22Speaker 3: plays and make your offense more balanced. Guys, Notre Dame
- 6:25Speaker 3: is 116th in rushing right now. And they're currently averaging 3.5
- 6:28Speaker 3: yards a play. And I'm not trying to go ahead
- 6:31Speaker 3: and put up the red flags or sound the alarms
- 6:34Speaker 3: or anything. But you did it against Wisconsin and Rice.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I mean, if you did this against Miami's defensive line, 3.5 yards, okay,
- 6:43Speaker 3: not going to be that worrisome. You're doing it against Rice.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Nobody should do it against Rice. Nobody should be averaging 3.5
- 6:49Speaker 3: yards in that standpoint. So I think that at that standpoint...
- 6:53Speaker 3: you have to ask yourself, what can we get that
- 6:55Speaker 3: will make the rushing attack more dynamic? Because you know
- 6:58Speaker 3: that you can win through the air with CJ Carr.
- 7:00Speaker 3: You know that Jordan Faison is going to be a
- 7:03Speaker 3: difference maker on the outside. You know that you have
- 7:05Speaker 3: some weapons that are going to end up balancing out
- 7:08Speaker 3: the rest of the passing attack to give you a
- 7:10Speaker 3: second gear. But the thing that I was so excited
- 7:13Speaker 3: about this season with Notre Dame was that this was
- 7:16Speaker 3: the year that we were going to see Mike Dembrock
- 7:18Speaker 3: be more balanced in his play callings. And I think
- 7:21Speaker 3: that right now, when you're only averaging 3.5 yards a
- 7:25Speaker 3: play running the football, yeah, you can go ahead and
- 7:28Speaker 3: run it. But you know eventually you're going to have
- 7:30Speaker 3: to pass it. I want to see them be able
- 7:32Speaker 3: to have a game that allows them to feel like
- 7:35Speaker 3: that we can utilize the passing attack if we need to.
- 7:38Speaker 3: But this is one that we're going to go head
- 7:40Speaker 3: on with the rushing attack. And it starts with the
- 7:43Speaker 3: offensive line and it carries on into the second and
- 7:45Speaker 3: third level of the running backs to get in the
- 7:46Speaker 3: open field. But I'm just saying, I think this is
- 7:49Speaker 3: one of those games to where you think about Michigan State,
- 7:51Speaker 3: they're a top 40 run defense right now. Can you
- 7:53Speaker 3: get your opportunities to allow whoever is in your backfield,
- 7:56Speaker 3: mostly Williams, to break away for a couple of runs
- 7:59Speaker 3: or just be more consistent. And it's now second and three,
- 8:01Speaker 3: third and one open to the playbook. And you don't
- 8:04Speaker 3: have to be so codependent on the passing attack.
- 8:09Speaker 1: What's what does Michigan state do?
- 8:11Speaker 4: Well, Tom, that again, I'm not trying to big this
- 8:15Speaker 4: up and make it something that it's not.
- 8:16Speaker 1: This is a game that Notre Dame should win and
- 8:18Speaker 1: win comfortably. But is there anything Michigan state does that
- 8:21Speaker 1: should have Notre Dame on alert at all?
- 8:24Speaker 2: I mean, they want to run the football and they
- 8:25Speaker 2: want to be physical on offense. I think that Pat
- 8:28Speaker 2: Fitzgerald's teams consistently are disciplined, smart, organized. They aren't out
- 8:33Speaker 2: of position all that often. So you're going to have
- 8:36Speaker 2: to earn it if you're Notre Dame. But the best
- 8:38Speaker 2: case scenario for Michigan State is to really dominate time
- 8:43Speaker 2: of possession. The more you can keep C.J. Carr and
- 8:45Speaker 2: company off the field, the better. I don't see a
- 8:48Speaker 2: ton of situations where they're going to be able to
- 8:49Speaker 2: do that. But the narrow path to victory for Michigan
- 8:53Speaker 2: State is You have to run the ball with Cam
- 8:56Speaker 2: Edwards 25, 30 times. Go back to the Le'Veon Bell
- 9:01Speaker 2: days where you just keep feeding them and you just
- 9:03Speaker 2: wear down Notre Dame and you keep them off the field.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And you're going to have to be really, really sound defensively.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You've got to keep everything in front of you because
- 9:11Speaker 2: Notre Dame, despite the questions at wide receiver, like Jordan
- 9:14Speaker 2: Faison can break one. Great House can break one. They've
- 9:16Speaker 2: got the transfers in from Ohio State that they like.
- 9:20Speaker 2: You have guys for Notre Dame that can break this
- 9:23Speaker 2: open with explosives at any given time. So the more
- 9:25Speaker 2: you can do to keep everything in front of you,
- 9:27Speaker 2: the better. It's a narrow path to victory. It's plausible,
- 9:31Speaker 2: but I just don't see it. I think Notre Dame
- 9:32Speaker 2: wins this.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I think that if you were to win this football game,
- 9:36Speaker 3: if you were Michigan State, it's not only winning the
- 9:38Speaker 3: time possession, you're going to need a couple of explosive plays.
- 9:41Speaker 3: And I think that right now, the thing that I
- 9:43Speaker 3: worry about, is even if you don't have a good
- 9:46Speaker 3: running game for Notre Dame, Michigan State, you still have
- 9:48Speaker 3: to stop those wide receivers.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:50Speaker 3: A lot easier said than done. I'm in agreement with Tom.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I think that you'll come away saying that there's been
- 9:55Speaker 3: some good, some progress going into game number three for,
- 10:00Speaker 3: a Pat Fitzgerald-led team. Progress does not mean you win
- 10:03Speaker 3: a football game. I think that Notre Dame is a
- 10:04Speaker 3: call-your-shot moment. They're going to win this one by at
- 10:06Speaker 3: least 15. I'll go 38-13, 38-17 to be respectful.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I won't be respectful.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Sorry, Michigan State. Notre Dame's a 30-point favorite in this game.
- 10:19Speaker 4: This is not projected to be close at all. The
- 10:23Speaker 4: only way I, again, kind of like Bama, Florida State,
- 10:26Speaker 4: if Notre Dame is up, 28th half and decides to
- 10:29Speaker 4: just call off the dogs and say, ah, let's, let's
- 10:31Speaker 4: get to next week. Not that next week, incredible fountains
- 10:35Speaker 4: where there will be next week, but not the next
- 10:37Speaker 4: week is much more of a challenge at all because
- 10:39Speaker 4: it's not. Um, this is a moment where I think
- 10:42Speaker 4: Notre Dame can get a lot of guys rest. A
- 10:44Speaker 4: lot of guys, um, you know, snaps, uh, It's a
- 10:47Speaker 4: call your shot moment. I just, I don't think Michigan
- 10:50Speaker 4: state's defense will have anything to slow them down. I
- 10:53Speaker 4: think if you want to call it this Notre Dame
- 10:56Speaker 4: got a little bit of their wake up call in
- 10:59Speaker 4: the first half against Wisconsin. I don't even know if
- 11:01Speaker 4: I really call it that because I never felt like
- 11:06Speaker 4: the game was in danger. So If you wanted to
- 11:08Speaker 4: maybe make it a little bit of a stretch and say, ah,
- 11:10Speaker 4: they've already kind of got their first half scare. LSU
- 11:12Speaker 4: got it last week against Louisiana Tech. Bama got it
- 11:15Speaker 4: first half against Kentucky. Like everybody gets that half to
- 11:17Speaker 4: just kind of play with that mulligan. And Notre Dame
- 11:21Speaker 4: will do whatever the hell they want offensively. And again,
- 11:24Speaker 4: to me for Notre Dame, it's what kind of things
- 11:26Speaker 4: do you want to work on? for the games that
- 11:28Speaker 4: will happen later in this year. And if you can
- 11:32Speaker 4: work on those things in this contest, then you're in
- 11:34Speaker 4: a much better spot coming down the pike with BYU,
- 11:38Speaker 4: Miami SMU on the schedule later.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Uh, yeah. What does Marcus Freeman want to score? Uh, 42, 10.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Fuck. I screwed.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm going to change my prediction.
- 11:49Speaker 4: I'm going to go.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah. I'll change my prediction. 30, 38 to 38 to seven.
