- 0:28Woo Hoo. Hi, good afternoon.
- 0:44Welcome Miller and Condon on our Wednesday program.
- 0:48Welcome back to the Iowa Sports Radio Network as we crank it
- 0:52back up for the next 6 hours, two of which will be a Trent
- 0:56Condon and myself. Ken Miller will take you until
- 0:582:00 off the bench. At that time, 3 until 2 until 5.
- 1:03Here's what's coming up on our program.
- 1:05We are going to talk Iowa to begin the show with Elliot
- 1:09Clough. Hawkeyeinsider.com with the
- 1:11latest on basketball. If there is some news, Elliott
- 1:14Clef will share that with us as Ben McCollum trying to rebuild
- 1:18his roster. So the latest on that will dip
- 1:20our toe into women's hoops and some football as well when
- 1:23Elliott joins us coming up here at 12:30.
- 1:26Off to Chicago to start the second hour of the program.
- 1:29David Kaplan in his normal spot every Wednesday to kick off our
- 1:33second hour talking Chicago sports, the Cubs, the White Sox,
- 1:37everything all of the teams the Bears 0 win on next week as the
- 1:42NFL draft begins next Thursday night.
- 1:44So Chicago sports with Cappy Centurion Stone of Iowa sponsors
- 1:48that on a weekly basis. Centurion Stone of iowa.com And
- 1:52then we're going to stick with the NFL.
- 1:54Take a look at one of the regional teams.
- 1:56The Chiefs have two first round picks.
- 1:58We'll talk to Nick Athan as to where he thinks that they are
- 2:01going to look what see what he's hearing as far as potentially
- 2:04moving up because there does seem I'd be a little bit of buzz
- 2:07pursuant to the Chiefs and their, I guess, desire to
- 2:12capture one of those edge rushers.
- 2:14So we'll talk to Nick about that and other topics and he joins us
- 2:19at 1:30. Trends, plays of the day are
- 2:21coming up. He had Portland yesterday off on
- 2:23the right foot. The NBA.
- 2:24Mr. NBA. Mr. NBA, You know what?
- 2:28You're Mr. WNB? AI am and don't be treading on
- 2:31my territory here, anybody. It goes for you Lucas, but
- 2:36pretty 2 good games to start right?
- 2:38Really entertaining it it was now.
- 2:40I didn't get involved in the first game until very late and
- 2:43saw. Was the plug pulled when you
- 2:45turned in to watch the first game?
- 2:46Amazon? I lost the signal.
- 2:48Yeah, I saw Awful announcing. He had an article talking about
- 2:51that a little bit. No, I, I didn't have that part
- 2:53of it, but got involved in last, I don't know, 2 minutes of
- 2:56regulation and then got to see OT and it was a wild sequence at
- 2:59the end. Fun game though.
- 3:00Was it you? Know just getting to know these
- 3:02teams a little bit all right, Pam's not out there for the
- 3:05heat. Here's this Hornet team is that.
- 3:06See how he got hurt? I didn't ball.
- 3:09Tripped. Him.
- 3:09Oh no. I mean, ball it was, it was kind
- 3:11of awkward. I don't think he did it on
- 3:13purpose, although there's a lot of folks that do believe he did.
- 3:16But as as as Bam was falling backward balls on the ground and
- 3:20kind of reached out. I don't know why he reached out
- 3:22if he was trying to prevent him from falling or to to help him
- 3:25not lose his balance. But in doing so, he kept his
- 3:29foot off the ground. So he fell right on his
- 3:31tailbone, his back, etcetera. And yeah, that wasn't good.
- 3:35But but anyways, so we'll get two more of these games tonight,
- 3:38both of which appear on Amazon, and we'll see where we go from
- 3:42here. We were.
- 3:43Speculating Monday about the reasoning why the 7-8 game in
- 3:47the East was tonight as opposed to the way that it was
- 3:49traditionally it was because the Flyers were at home.
- 3:52Oh, was it? Yeah, they share the same
- 3:54building. Yeah.
- 3:54Because of that, that was the reason that they had to push it
- 3:57back. So it wasn't ATV thing because
- 3:58maybe we speculated about it was just a building availability
- 4:01thing. So we'll see the Magic and the
- 4:03Sixers tonight. Just two teams that there's all
- 4:06kinds of. And Embiid is out for the
- 4:08Sixers. I think he's out.
- 4:09In theory. Well, Lucas was in here earlier
- 4:13and he said that he thinks Embiid is out so.
- 4:18They have him listed as out here officially, yeah.
- 4:21Box score that I go to. There you go with an abdomen
- 4:23injury. Yeah, boy, he misses a lot of
- 4:25time, doesn't He does, and he's so good when he plays, but
- 4:27unfortunately that's not enough. If you're a Sixers fan, will you
- 4:31play these games tonight and will you be packing?
- 4:33I both, but I do have an angle that I like in the Warriors
- 4:39Clippers tonight, and this is what we like to do if you are
- 4:42new to our program. Ken and I like conspiracy
- 4:44theories. Sometimes we drop our own.
- 4:47Yeah, I saw this bandied about a little bit last night on NBA
- 4:51Twitter because of course, for the first time in months, a.
- 4:55Year, you're back on NBA Twitter.
- 4:56Right. I click on a couple of things
- 4:58now and all of a sudden there's the algorithm.
- 5:00Here you go. And it's way too much.
- 5:02But that aside and going down with the theory Clippers
- 5:06Warriors tonight, of course, Steph a draw, a name that would
- 5:10be great even if it's just one extra game getting him as
- 5:13opposed to a very non descript Clippers organization, one of
- 5:17the worst organizations in professional sports.
- 5:19On top of it though, and this was the one that kind of got my
- 5:22wheels turning a little bit, is the ongoing saga with Kawhi and
- 5:27the NBA and the shadow company that was put together by
- 5:30Ballmer. Oh, of course, yeah.
- 5:32Just let's get rid of the clip where.
- 5:34Did that OK. You know.
- 5:36What are you going to do with them?
- 5:37Are you going to give them to another city or you just want
- 5:41them out of the league? Well, I I think not quite that
- 5:44far. Maybe give up ownership.
- 5:45Maybe they're forced to sell. But with a guy with that much?
- 5:48Money. I was going to say, isn't he one
- 5:49of the richest guys in the in the country?
- 5:51Yeah. That's not going away.
- 5:53You want to keep those guys in those seats.
- 5:55But has the NBA find them or punish them in any way?
- 5:59I mean it's owners punishing owner here.
- 6:01Yeah, and that becomes a sticky situation too, because then
- 6:05there's going to be maybe payback coming up down the line.
- 6:07But it was a theory at minimum that got me thinking a little
- 6:10bit. So probably going to dabble bit
- 6:12on the Warriors money line, jump on that a little bit and
- 6:14definitely going to play them grabbing the five and a half
- 6:16tonight against the Clippers. It was a theory that at minimum,
- 6:20it led to a wager. 4 weeks. So that's one that I have locked
- 6:23in. Got a couple others that I'm
- 6:24taking a peek at for that one. But yeah, a good start to the
- 6:27NBA playoffs. And we've had these times where
- 6:29I remember when this first started, like, what is going on
- 6:32here? It's kind of difficult to wrap
- 6:33your mind around exactly the way that it was going.
- 6:36It's for TV. It works.
- 6:38Yeah, it does. It did yesterday.
- 6:39It's the NBA realizing they can monetize these games.
- 6:43Why do you think we have the play in game in the NCAA
- 6:45tournament? It's demonetized Tuesday and
- 6:48Wednesday night. And why wouldn't you?
- 6:50Absolutely. And now they're going to expand
- 6:51it because they realize that the appetite is there and so are the
- 6:55so is the financial impact that comes along with it.
- 6:57So I'm with you. I mean, old school isn't 82
- 7:00games enough? I mean, if you can't decide
- 7:01after 82, what are we doing here?
- 7:03But it's it's content, and you and I both love content.
- 7:07And the reason last night that I was late getting to the NBA is
- 7:10because of the best team in the American.
- 7:12League it's unbelievable Trent watching Bucks and so I was I
- 7:15was going to bring it up and you know what is it too early Is
- 7:19this the year oh. Man, I.
- 7:21Mean baseball fans, and I'm a baseball fan.
- 7:24I'm a Twins fan. I like the Twins.
- 7:25But I want to see Byron Buxton play at a full year at full
- 7:29health because we've we've seen glimpses of it and he's been so
- 7:33injury struck his entire career and if he could ever have a
- 7:37year, I mean, how many times have we set that?
- 7:39So many, right? An incredible amount.
- 7:42And there's been the times that he's been injured.
- 7:44A nondescript place. Yes, yeah.
- 7:47He slides in a second comes out. He's broken.
- 7:51Finger right, Just weird things that happened.
- 7:53Tracking down balls, diving after balls, diving into walls.
- 7:56Those are the ones that you anticipate.
- 7:58Last year he played the most games he had played since 2017.
- 8:02And that number was what? He played 126 games last year.
- 8:06If you can get that range, 130. I think every Twins fan would
- 8:10probably sign up for that right now.
- 8:12Last year in that year where he finally played 126 still
- 8:15missing. What, 58 games?
- 8:18Yeah, 54. No, no, not that many.
- 8:20Well, 126, No 40 something, yeah.
- 8:23Yeah, even with that, when he missed the 3630 something, yeah,
- 8:27he still had 21 double S, 7 triples, 35 homers, 83 RBI and
- 8:3624 stolen bases. Jeez, you.
- 8:39Here for a lot of players. You coupled with still great
- 8:42defense and maybe he's not at he's not as apex anymore
- 8:45defensively, no, but he's still he's a fine center fielder.
- 8:49He is great out there. You get that out of him.
- 8:53The bats are swinging it. I don't think that they're going
- 8:57to be hanging around. But let's say we do get to July.
- 8:59This bullpen is still atrocious. Trent, there's always one team
- 9:02seemingly that that gets to, you know, the All Star break that
- 9:07is, Remember the Royals did it. What was the managers name?
- 9:11Tony. Was it Tony Perez?
- 9:13No, no, no. Was it, Is it, is it Pena?
- 9:16I think it. Was Tony Pena.
- 9:17Tony Pena, I think OK, this going way back.
- 9:20Oh not wait 20 some of the years is way back.
- 9:23They were in it till like September out of nowhere and it
- 9:26kind of feels like again, we're April the 15th.
- 9:28Tap the brakes a little bit. But the twins were not supposed
- 9:31to be off to this start. No, not at.
- 9:32All not even close to this and and here they are.
- 9:37You throw in just if they're hanging around, they get to
- 9:40July. So we got a new poll ad that's
- 9:42now running things. Young poll ad right.
- 9:45No, this is the older brother, older brother that came in and
- 9:51came in with some bravado. He was showing up, though, He
- 9:53was at spring training all over the park, all the.
- 9:56Is that the guy that does the interviews from the dugouts
- 9:58periodically? I've seen him in the Twins
- 10:00dugout doing a doing a little media scrum.
- 10:03He's more available than the past.
- 10:06That's probably him then. More available, but he said, you
- 10:09know, they're going to go out there.
- 10:10Yes, they want to have a competitive team.
- 10:12There was what I believe was the fake offer to Framer Valdez.
- 10:15There's no way they were getting him.
- 10:17But the big moves was getting Carotini.
- 10:20OK, been around. A veteran that's OK at best.
- 10:25And Josh Bell? That's not exactly.
- 10:26Going to get 2 veterans that Yeah, well, when Bell makes
- 10:30contact with the ball, it's going to leave a lot of ball.
- 10:32He's got power. Yes, he does.
- 10:33He's got. Power.
- 10:34But if they are hanging around, all right, put your money where
- 10:37your mouth is. You say you're going to work to
- 10:39help the team, you got to do it. Or is it just going to be yet
- 10:42another poll ad? And I think for most Twins fans,
- 10:45that's the anticipation. It's just going to be more of
- 10:47the same. What did you see the attendance
- 10:50last night? It's what did what did we we
- 10:53figured out the season ticket holder base was about 12,016
- 10:58thousand last night. So what's it going to?
- 10:59How long? I was thinking about this last
- 11:02night. Do they spend the weekend in the
- 11:04Twin Cities? Do you know?
- 11:06Coming up this weekend, they are at home for the Reds.
- 11:08So I have to believe with the start that the Twins are having,
- 11:13it isn't it time for fans of this ball club to get off their
- 11:17you know what's they're a Hardy bunch.
- 11:19They won't do it. Can't be the weather just
- 11:21keeping them away. Wait, what are they waiting for?
- 11:23Is it just a is this just a statement that they're making?
- 11:26Absolutely, They've had enough. Yes, absolutely, 100%.
- 11:29So get to the All Star break if you're in contention, and then
- 11:31maybe I'll buy. I'll come down to the ballpark.
- 11:33Even then, really think there's a lot of people that are
- 11:36completely checked out. Totally checked out on this
- 11:38team. And it's not.
- 11:39This is just a baseball thing though.
- 11:40We know this year after year after year fans are very slow to
- 11:44come back after disappointments. It takes a long time to build it
- 11:48back up and it's really your season ticket base.
- 11:51There isn't the walk up crowd, even as things get better than
- 11:55corporate. Sales base.
- 11:56I mean, I'd hate to try and sell ticket packages to groups.
- 11:59It's. A different level, but we see
- 12:01this across baseball. It is always slower to come
- 12:03around than you'd anticipate. And because of the ownership
- 12:06problem, because the poll ads have been just basically a four
- 12:10letter word in Minneapolis. They've been off for decades.
- 12:13It's going to be slow to happen. And yeah, I think it's going to
- 12:15be something like that after school gets out, we get into
- 12:18June, they're still in contention.
- 12:20Maybe you'll see a bump in the crowds, but it's not going to be
- 12:23more than 20. Thousand.
- 12:24Well, do they go north of 20,000 this weekend?
- 12:27Whether or no, you really don't think.
- 12:29So. Nope.
- 12:29Huh. Well, we'll see Their their
- 12:35their team is red hot. They got a chance to sweep the
- 12:37Red Sox strength. I know the Red Sox after.
- 12:39Sweeping the Tigers. After sweeping the Tigers, I
- 12:42know the Red Sox are struggling a little bit here, but they've
- 12:45got a chance to do something and we'll see if they can and taking
- 12:48two or three Toronto. Yes, yeah.
- 12:51Good for the twins, good for the, good for the organization.
- 12:54But at the same time, yes, it's good.
- 12:56But are they? We don't need to spend money.
- 12:58Look what? Look what our team, they're in
- 13:00first place. Yeah, just keep rolling.
- 13:03It out there just keep yeah, it's worked it's working this
- 13:05year. Whatever we did or didn't do in
- 13:07this case seems to be seems to be working.
- 13:10We'll see Cubs got a big win last night from falling behind
- 13:13three and O this Colin Ray story is really something just when
- 13:16you think that his career is over they they bring him back
- 13:19last year. He played a huge role in that
- 13:21team last year, comes in last night as you're, you're right,
- 13:25it was a bullpen game. But in the end, it really wasn't
- 13:28because Colin Ray just took the ball and because of the fact
- 13:31that the Cubs bats came alive and did so in a major way.
- 13:35They didn't have to go to that bullpen game.
- 13:37It was Colin Ray for I think he probably pitched 66 innings.
- 13:41It was all said and done. Yeah.
- 13:42It was 6. What did you think of the Martin
- 13:43Kid? I thought he was great.
- 13:45He played through very few pitches, through strikes and was
- 13:49out very quickly. Exactly what you want, yeah.
- 13:51And you didn't want is it going to be 1?
- 13:53Is it going to be two innings? Whatever it is, He was
- 13:55efficient. What sits in the mid 90s?
- 13:57Yeah, I think it. Was yeah, right in that range,
- 13:58you know, 95, something like that, a good bullpen arm.
- 14:02A guy that can help out something.
- 14:03Well, this bullpen has been a disappointment, I think, at
- 14:06this. Yeah.
- 14:07Maton has not been good. No, the old bar has been hit and
- 14:10missed. Right.
- 14:10And I don't trust that guy as far as I can throw him.
- 14:13And that's not very far. It's a bullpen I thought was
- 14:16going to be better coming into the season, certainly than they
- 14:18been at this point. And we find another guy.
- 14:20Riley Martin, career binder leader, Leaguer, 28 years old, I
- 14:23think I saw last night during the start.
- 14:25And yeah, liked him. Throw strikes.
- 14:28He did threw 6 pitches, all of them strikes.
- 14:30He got out of it Bing Bang Boom and Craig Counsel and they were
- 14:33talking about this on the broadcast.
- 14:35Both Boog and JD noticed the council went out of his way to
- 14:38go to the other end of the dugout to give him an attaboy
- 14:41and put his arm around them. Apparently that's not something
- 14:43that Craig Counsel is is known to do.
- 14:46So we'll see. But that was that was good last
- 14:49night. The getaway game today for those
- 14:52Cubs and and the Phillies as we will get to the series clincher.
- 14:57The rubber match of all rubber matches takes place today
- 15:00Imanaga and Lizardo. Good pitching match.
- 15:04Do you have an you know what, Imanaga?
- 15:05His last start was pretty good. It was it was pretty good.
- 15:08You have an opinion. Have you looked at the baseball
- 15:10card closely at? All a little bit.
- 15:12I got a couple of things that I have circled at this point and
- 15:14cut one more math thing to check out before I fire in the plays
- 15:17officially. If I had to make a waiter, I'd
- 15:20lean Cubs. You mentioned in Managa last
- 15:22time out Lizardo has not been very good this year.
- 15:25His area is north of 6 so it would be a lean towards the
- 15:28Cubs. But also got to see the price
- 15:30out there and when you're shopping for baseball.
- 15:31Yeah, go to Circa. Absolutely.
- 15:33Go to Circa. I had one yesterday.
- 15:35It was a 14 cent difference between their their money line
- 15:39and the second best odds that were out there out of the big
- 15:41shops in the market. Yeah, it makes it makes a huge
- 15:43difference. All right, before we get to
- 15:46Elliot Clough, what are you hearing as far as Iowa
- 15:48basketball? Are they making any headway?
- 15:51And by the way, if you're a Cyclone fan, you've probably
- 15:53seen it. But TJ put, I think it was the
- 15:56basketball Twitter account tweeted this out.
- 15:59Just what TJ's thoughts on all of his transfer.
- 16:02So if you haven't seen that yet, go there.
- 16:04But Iowa looking to make looking to make some moves.
- 16:07What are you hearing as far as McKeever and then Ace Glass, the
- 16:10point guard that they want to bring over from Washington
- 16:12state. Are they close on either?
- 16:13Well, right now Ace Glass is on a visit somewhere else.
- 16:17He's on. Was he supposed to come here
- 16:19first? You.
- 16:19Know no, Okay, but he's on a visit to Vanderbilt.
- 16:22All right. Vanderbilt, we know that
- 16:24pocketbook has definitely changed with that whole athletic
- 16:27department, the way that they have spent recently.
- 16:30Another place that McKeever might be visiting Vanderbilt, so
- 16:34that appears that's going to be the the battlegrounds for Iowa
- 16:37this year in men's hoops is against Vandy and going up
- 16:40against Nashville. That's a tough one.
- 16:43Was it Barrett Robbins? The Robbins kid that started
- 16:45Drake was Minnesota. He ended up at Vanderbilt.
- 16:47That has gone very well outside of the bowl game last year.
- 16:49So that's the latest on that front.
- 16:51One thing with McKeever saw that, I think he enjoyed his
- 16:56visit really good, happy with what Iowa was selling, but it's
- 16:59asking price keeps coming up because.
- 17:01Is it over 3? Have you heard that?
- 17:03I don't know, but what I do know is big programs are getting
- 17:07involved now. Well, what I was told that his
- 17:09his ask was over three at Iowa and there's a team, an SEC
- 17:14school. I didn't know, didn't know the
- 17:16Vanderbilt thing. It's just now that their offer
- 17:18starts with A4. Not surprising right now,
- 17:22sniffing around. Michigan has been sniffing
- 17:23around. Yukon's been sniffing around.
- 17:27That changes the equation. Funds are OK at Iowa, right?
- 17:32It's how are you going to allocate those funds?
- 17:35So if you missed those two, what where did we go from here?
- 17:39Is is it time to start being a little bit?
- 17:42Worried well and another guy is on campus right now from well.
- 17:45He was at Colorado State North Carolina last year.
- 17:47Kai and Evans shot the crap out of the ball two years ago.
- 17:50Yep, at Colorado State. Not a traditional point guard.
- 17:53He played point guard for Carolina this year and struggled
- 17:56that role after the injury that they had.
- 17:58He's more of an off ball kind of guy.
- 17:59He can handle it but him and Combs together I think
- 18:02definitely would make sense. I don't know if this is a
- 18:06holding pattern. We'll get Evans ear on a visit.
- 18:09He's already visited Minnesota. Slow play him a little bit and
- 18:13then hope to get a weekend visit for ace class.
- 18:15This is speculating if that's the case.
- 18:17Reading between the lines, I think that's maybe the way that
- 18:21they're looking at it and maybe just scheduling it worked out
- 18:23better to get Evans here first as opposed to getting Glass here
- 18:25first. Who has mentioned is that
- 18:27Vanderbilt but has. Evans got another visit coming
- 18:30up that you know. Of those were, the only two that
- 18:31I really heard early on was Iowa and Minnesota.
- 18:34Nico Medved was his coach at Colorado State where he had a
- 18:37ton of success, 45% from three and it's down to like 30% this
- 18:40year at North Carolina. But not your traditional, not
- 18:45the point guard. I think we were thinking of when
- 18:47the portal opened up, lead guard.
- 18:49You want to use that terminology.
- 18:51I guess you could use that with Evans and him and Combs together
- 18:53playing in the back court. If it does.
- 18:55If that goes awry though, and these three guys or two of the
- 18:58three are off the board. One thing I think we're also
- 19:01learning and this goes back to, did I mention this yesterday?
- 19:05I think I said on my podcast Locked on Hawkeyes, by the way.
- 19:08Daily. Just about to ask you, Trent,
- 19:09what podcast is that? Locked on Hawkeyes, your daily
- 19:12Iowa Hawkeye podcast. Even when you're in South
- 19:15Carolina, you're going to do it when you're at a wedding.
- 19:17Got to find time to do it. We might.
- 19:18Put one in the can. That's a good idea.
- 19:20I won't say nothing. No, no, I didn't.
- 19:22I didn't say anything to dozens of listeners either.
- 19:25Is there was this story that came out and it was sometime
- 19:29during the course of the season. It was just, you know, one of
- 19:31those regular season interviews and it came out that Ben
- 19:33McCollum asked a lot of his players at Northwest Missouri
- 19:37State, don't publicize your offer.
- 19:40It's something we just ask of you because they knew once they
- 19:43offered somebody, everybody else in their league was going to
- 19:45offer. And they don't think it takes a
- 19:48great leap to believe maybe something is happening here
- 19:50because information is slow compared to a lot of the
- 19:53programs that are out there. Very slow to get information
- 19:56when guys are there. And outside of when we saw
- 19:58Mckeeder, I don't think, I don't believe any of the beat guys had
- 20:02before he was visiting that he was visiting.
- 20:05It was an Instagram picture that he had in Iowa City.
- 20:06So he was the one that tipped him off.
- 20:08It was known as his own social. Same thing today with Kai and
- 20:10Evans. I didn't see a report beforehand
- 20:13that he was visiting until there was an Instagram of him in Iowa
- 20:15City. So I think we're learning this
- 20:18coaching staff as a whole and certainly Ben McCollum, he keeps
- 20:22things incredibly close to the vest.
- 20:24Now, it's different. How many beat reporters are
- 20:26covering Northwest Missouri State?
- 20:27Well, true, compared to Iowa. Some more information.
- 20:30Northwest Missouri State fanatic.com Yes.
- 20:33You you probably had. That Uri had a bunch of.
- 20:35That's one that eluded. Me, you have to anticipate, Yes,
- 20:38there will be news that gets out.
- 20:39But I had 65 at the 66 at the time.
- 20:42BCS schools fanatic. So close.
- 20:45Yeah, look at my retirement. They got a different one.
- 20:50Yeah, a little different, I'll say.
- 20:52But that's something that just kind of sticks in my mind a
- 20:55little bit with McCollum is I think information is going to be
- 20:57much slower than what we've seen in the.
- 20:59Past it makes sense. I mean, I, I'm surprised
- 21:01actually more coaches don't go down that path because why would
- 21:04you just let the let the next guy go or know what's going on
- 21:07with you, you know, keep it under the vest.
- 21:10And then we get the story today at Tavion Banks.
- 21:13Kind of a Montchilovich light type of story, would you say?
- 21:16I wouldn't because the way that I read it, he had to enter the
- 21:22transfer portal the way that it's set up and if he is given a
- 21:26fifth year of eligibility, And I don't know if I had the phrasing
- 21:29right or maybe I just read it incorrectly, In order to get
- 21:33that extra year of eligibility, though, he had to be in the
- 21:35portal and then come back as an Iowa guy.
- 21:38He did say that if he has the opportunity, he wants to come
- 21:41back to Iowa and that's something that you put on the
- 21:43back border and certainly keep a scholarship.
- 21:45Open. Absolutely.
- 21:46If that's the case, but I read it a little bit different, where
- 21:50Manchilovich, he's not coming. Back No.
- 21:52He wants to go to the NBA. Banks, I think, realizes there's
- 21:54no NBA in my future, right? That's that's not going to be
- 21:57the destination for him. I could be wrong on that one.
- 22:00Maybe I read it incorrectly, but that's kind of the reading
- 22:03through it. I think that is the terminology.
- 22:06We'll ask Elliot, maybe he'll have some clarity on.
- 22:08It any Fulgaris news percolating out there?
- 22:10Haven't seen anything, I guess I haven't been searching.
- 22:13Either maybe the maybe the team that school he's talking to is
- 22:17asking him not to say anything, right?
- 22:19Yeah, apparently that goes for whoever Audie Crooks is talking
- 22:21to, because I don't think I've seen anything there.
- 22:24I really want to know where she's going.
- 22:25I really do. She had the visit to Maryland
- 22:27set up at the beginning of this week.
- 22:29We know she got on the airplane. She must have been connecting
- 22:32through LaGuardia because we got that call.
- 22:34Yes, Notre Dame's been talked about.
- 22:38Oklahoma, Texas, those were some of the earlier ones.
- 22:40I don't know, it takes the right fit.
- 22:43Thinking of Brenda Freeze in the way that they play sure doesn't
- 22:45seem like a right fit. State connection, but yeah.
- 22:48Certainly different the way that they play and that pressing
- 22:51style and the way they did play defensively than what we're
- 22:54accustomed to seeing from Audie on that end of the floor.
- 22:57But she is so skilled offensively and he can find a
- 23:00way to find a way to take a talent like that and certainly
- 23:03mold her into your system. Yep, Finley added to his roster
- 23:06yesterday. Got a a big from from Florida.
- 23:10Don't know much about her. Don't know anything about her
- 23:12other than she averaged 2 points and two rebounds a game.
- 23:15Played about 8 minutes. So we'll see what we'll see.
- 23:18And some breaking news as the Iowa women have just added from
- 23:22the portal. Another piece to the puzzle as
- 23:25Amari Whiting from Oklahoma State has made her commitment to
- 23:28the Hawkeyes. Lot of rumblings about this
- 23:32yesterday on social media. Nobody was willing to break it
- 23:34though they'd say her name looked like it was trending this
- 23:37direction. Really like good defender and
- 23:39after losing Fear Bach who was their best on ball defender, she
- 23:42was somebody that can definitely help on that end of the floor.
- 23:45Not a great 3 point shooter. Good off the bounce though is
- 23:47definitely her strength. A different kind of player but
- 23:50the defensive end of the floor that what steps up.
- 23:52Coach's kid. Their mom was a coach at BYU.
- 23:55You coupled that with a year at Oklahoma State and our final
- 23:57year will be in Iowa City. 6 foot tall, kind of a small all
- 24:00forward type. Decent offensively, more of a
- 24:03driver than a shooter, but defense always need defensive
- 24:06like that out of Whitey. All right, 1225, more on Iowa.
- 24:09Coming up next, we will talk to our Elliott Clough from
- 24:12hawkeyeinsider.com. Cappy coming up, look forward to
- 24:17our weekly visit with David Kaplan.
- 24:18Before however, we go to break, want to remind you again of the
- 24:21East High Golf Classic tee times.
- 24:23They are filling up and filling up very quickly.
- 24:25This is the 32nd annual. That's a great 'cause, folks.
- 24:29They've raised hundreds of thousands.
- 24:30The dollars tee times, May. It's a Copper Creek, by the way.
- 24:34May the 8th, 7:30 or 1:00. That's on Friday, Friday, May
- 24:38the 8th, 7:30 or 1:00 Saturday. Those same two tee times.
- 24:41If Friday won't work for you, 731 o'clock Banquet follows
- 24:47following the Saturday tee times at 6:00.
- 24:50That will be at Prairie Meadows as they continue to raise money.
- 24:54How about this over the last 31 years, again this is year 32,
- 24:57they have raised $820,000 impacting the greater community.
- 25:02East High Golf Classic the website For more information
- 25:06ehsgolf.org ehsgolf.org. This message brought to us by
- 25:11East High graduate doctor Stephen Fuller.
- 25:13Miller and Condon back to talk Hawks on the other side's the
- 25:16Iowa Sports Radio Network. I'm Miller Cotton, welcome back
- 25:3112:30 right on the button. That never happens.
- 25:34We're always late. Not today.
- 25:36Elliot Clef told him 1230 And here we are to talk Hawks with
- 25:40Hawkeye insider dot coms. Elliot Clef lot of ground to
- 25:43cover. Elliot.
- 25:44Thanks for coming on Trenton. Ken, how are you, Sir?
- 25:47I'm good. How are you guys doing?
- 25:48OK, lots of news to get to. I guess we'll start in the world
- 25:53of college hoops. Ben McCollum trying to make an
- 25:56impact on his roster. We'll get to that in a second,
- 25:59but sounds like Jan Jensen's had a productive morning.
- 26:03She has. I would love to tell you more
- 26:06about it. I don't know much about it being
- 26:10on the, the men's beat. I, I did see that that she got a
- 26:14commitment this morning and adding to the roster, which is
- 26:18always good, of course. And I, I know Jan is really
- 26:22focused on culture. So I'm sure it was all about
- 26:25culture fit on top of production.
- 26:27So yeah, looking forward to to seeing what what they're able to
- 26:31do with the the portal and how things come together.
- 26:35Mari Whiting out of Oklahoma State made her commitment to the
- 26:37Hawkeye. So let's get into the men and
- 26:40let's jump things off. A visit happening currently with
- 26:43Kai and Evans that is in Iowa City currently going through his
- 26:46visit. Let's start right there, came
- 26:48together Minnesota connection. Nico Medved is going to Colorado
- 26:51State, obviously up there now with the Gophers.
- 26:54That's where his first visit went.
- 26:55And it sounds like comes down to money.
- 26:57I was probably in a better shape certainly than the Gophers are
- 27:00in terms of NIL. But what are you hearing on his
- 27:02recruitment and what kind of fit is he when you think about
- 27:05potentially him in the backcourt with Kale Combs?
- 27:08Yeah. So basically everything you said
- 27:11right there trend, I mean, it's going to come down to Iowa and
- 27:14Minnesota. Obviously that Nico Medved
- 27:16connection is is big. I mean that that's kind of the
- 27:20way we've been viewing it to this point just because
- 27:23Minnesota, I mean, when he was at Colorado State, that was the
- 27:28the best year of his career so far.
- 27:30Obviously had a dip down at UNC this last season, but in terms
- 27:34of a fit at Iowa, like you said, money is probably going to be
- 27:37better at Iowa. Fit might even be better at Iowa
- 27:40as an off ball guard. That can sort of complement some
- 27:43of the things that Kale Combs does in the back court.
- 27:46Probably more of a consistent shooter, a guy who has played at
- 27:50some really tough opponents in the ACC.
- 27:53So we come in and bring in that experience.
- 27:55And don't forget it's actually same high school as Cam Manny
- 27:58out, so previous previously teammates there in Kansas City.
- 28:02So there's some connections at Iowa for him too.
- 28:06So not quite that lead guard that you'd like to get, IE like
- 28:10a Bennett third, but but a guy that can help out, provide some
- 28:13extra shooting, plus an experienced player that that can
- 28:17help in in his one year with with Iowa.
- 28:21Ace Glass would fit that role as that point guard that perhaps
- 28:24Iowa needs the latest on the Washington State transfer.
- 28:29He's he's going to make his way eventually, apparently to Iowa
- 28:33City. What?
- 28:33What do you know about Ace Glass Junior and the likelihood that
- 28:37he becomes a Hawk? Right.
- 28:40So he hasn't like you said, he hasn't made his visit to Iowa
- 28:43City yet. As far as we know, there's
- 28:45there's no official day that he's planning on making the
- 28:48trip. And by the sounds of it that you
- 28:51know that that partnership might not probably not going to
- 28:56happen. Doesn't sound like the Hawkeyes
- 28:58are are having a set at the top of their their priority board at
- 29:02this point in time. So would probably honestly,
- 29:06guys, be pretty surprised if it comes together.
- 29:09But I mean it, you know, don't count out Ben McCollum if if he
- 29:13wants to go after Glass, then it it wouldn't surprise me if if
- 29:17that's that's what happened. But yeah, it doesn't sound like
- 29:21he's going to he's going to end up a Hawkeye.
- 29:23If they get him to campus then and they actively want him then,
- 29:27then things could come together. But at the moment, from what
- 29:30we've been told, it doesn't sound like he's he's a huge
- 29:32priority for the Hawks. So is it I will moving on or
- 29:36maybe not a reciprocating from East Glass to Iowa City, what a
- 29:39what could he have fill in kind of the details on that front?
- 29:43I I'd probably say a little bit of a combination of both, but
- 29:47Ben is very, very picky when it comes to how he, he adds in the
- 29:51portal. There's a reason they haven't
- 29:53signed anybody yet, right? Like they, they take their time,
- 29:56they're doing the background, they're seeing how they fit in
- 30:00terms of culture because he is very protective of that of that
- 30:03culture in Iowa City. So I would learn more towards
- 30:06Iowa, just not not want, not necessarily not wanting to move
- 30:10forward, but not prioritizing Glass as much as some people may
- 30:15have thought. Glass not a great defender.
- 30:17That's one thing that jumped out of his numbers.
- 30:19You, I know we all like to look at the offensive things, but
- 30:22that's some of the defensive metrics.
- 30:23Not exactly strong for ace Glass, big guy that was on
- 30:27campus already. Oh yes, Andrew Mckeeter, 7 foot
- 30:31three. It's not just Iowa, though.
- 30:34There are a lot of programs that are after him.
- 30:35Vanderbilt also involved in the mix on that one.
- 30:38Yukon, Michigan starting to sniff around.
- 30:40What can you tell us about 7 foot three out of Saint Mary's?
- 30:43Andrew McKeever. Yeah, You know, there was a
- 30:46point in time where it felt like Iowa was not necessarily a lock,
- 30:50but that they were at a really good spot.
- 30:52And I still do think they're in a good spot in terms of how he
- 30:55feels about the program and what he sees in the Hawkeyes.
- 30:58But man, that price tag just keeps going up and up and up and
- 31:02up like you'd expect. And of course, we expected it to
- 31:05be high because he's a big. That said, 7 foot 3 and average
- 31:09near double double has the single season record in terms of
- 31:13rebounding percentage in the West Coast Conference.
- 31:15So everybody would could use that.
- 31:17Everybody could use that size, that rim deterrent.
- 31:20But the way you know, you mentioned other programs
- 31:24involved, man, it's it's just going to be hard to be able to
- 31:28pony up that type of cash to bring in a guy like that at a
- 31:32program like Iowa. Now they could if they wanted
- 31:34to, but it also depends on who they also want to go get at that
- 31:38point guard spot and as well as that off ball guard position.
- 31:42So it depends on how Iowa wants to allocate that money.
- 31:46But McKeever is not going to be cheap guys like we're we're
- 31:49talking three $4 million for for one, one big man.
- 31:54And that that, you know, like I said, Iowa has the fun, but to
- 31:59spend it all on a big guy when when you've got other needs is
- 32:02not exactly how Ben McCollum is probably going to go about it. 4
- 32:06for four for three years would be one thing, but that's not the
- 32:10case. Nope.
- 32:12Nope. Yeah, McKeever is going to be
- 32:14expensive. So I want to go back to Ace
- 32:16Glass for a second because if they if they don't, if there's
- 32:20not, not anything that comes together there, he still needs a
- 32:24point guard. What are you hearing?
- 32:25Is there another name or two that might make sense that that
- 32:30maybe not everybody is this guy's appeared on everybody's
- 32:33radar yet. Where's McCullum going if he
- 32:35doesn't get Ace Glass to fill the point guard spot?
- 32:38For right now, it appears it'll be Tyree Coleman that they're
- 32:42really going to prioritize a guy that they actually recruited
- 32:46when when they were at Drake, Ben McCollum and his staff.
- 32:49So there's a prior relationship there.
- 32:51He is visiting other programs like a Nebraska.
- 32:54I can't remember who else is involved at the top of my head,
- 32:56but other power for high major programs are involved here.
- 33:00Iowa is towards the end of his official visit list.
- 33:03So as long as he can get there, it sounds like Iowa is in a good
- 33:06spot and and this is a guy that they would want so and I mean
- 33:10think about another point guard that that Iowa are.
- 33:13Yeah, the staff recruited out of high school and almost got a
- 33:17Drake and eaten Waggler. So obviously they've done a
- 33:20pretty good job of, of recruiting these point guards
- 33:23and finding talent that they feel they can develop.
- 33:26So Tyree Coleman would be the guy to, to keep an eye on there
- 33:30as long as he gets through all these official visits and
- 33:33doesn't commit elsewhere on the spot.
- 33:34Because, I mean, we all know recruiting and even in the
- 33:38transfer portal can be super volatile.
- 33:40So as long as you can get him on campus, I think Hawkeye, the
- 33:43Hawkeyes are, are going to be in a decent spot to to go and get
- 33:46him. Coleman shot over 40% from 3:00
- 33:48during his freshman campaign at Illinois State and he is,
- 33:51according to defensive metrics, a good defender.
- 33:54Coleman maybe is a little bit better fit.
- 33:56Let's jump over do some football.
- 33:58Elliott Clough joining us from hawkeyeinsider.com.
- 34:00Elliott, before we get into spring practice, just your take
- 34:04away from yesterday, the vacating of the four wins handed
- 34:07down by the NCAA and reading on the message boards at
- 34:10hawkeyeinsider.com. A lot of frustration from the
- 34:13Hawkeye fan base. Yeah, to be expected.
- 34:17I mean, it's just silly. Like, first it was the betting
- 34:20situation. Now it's that these are things
- 34:22that are running rampant across college football.
- 34:25And the only difference with Iowa is that they admitted to it
- 34:27and instituted their own their own suspensions or, or, or what
- 34:36would you call it? Obviously, Kirk suspended
- 34:38himself for that one game. And of course, the Noah Shannon
- 34:41issue. But like, I was the only program
- 34:44that owned up to it. And meanwhile, we've got
- 34:47programs. I mean, like we know Bennett
- 34:49Thirst was recruited out of the portal, offered millions of
- 34:53dollars to go elsewhere when he had a do not contact tag on his
- 34:57decision to enter the portal and go to Iowa.
- 35:00Like, we we know, know that for a fact.
- 35:02I mean, these are it's just there's an avalanche and they
- 35:06caught a snowflake with a program that actually took
- 35:09responsibility for the things that minorly did wrong and
- 35:13slapped them not on the wrist across the face.
- 35:16It's really just silly. It's like a kid telling a little
- 35:19white lied. Be like, OK, now we need you to
- 35:22tell the truth. We love you.
- 35:25We just want you to listen. We want you to speak somebody
- 35:27who's known to tell the truth. And then you ground him for a
- 35:30month, say, oh, you can't watch TV for a month.
- 35:33It's just it's it's so silly like and and to have it all
- 35:36happen over cave freaking McNamara of.
- 35:38All people, come on. Yeah, what are we doing?
- 35:41Yeah, of all people, I couldn't agree with you more.
- 35:44Hey, I want to go back to one that I had on campus that there
- 35:48was some speculation that Jake, is it Narat is how do we say his
- 35:51last name, the quarterback and legacy that there that Iowa was
- 35:55in a pretty good spot for? I believe he's certainly highly
- 35:59regarded. I know where you guys had him
- 36:01ranked, but I believe he's a four-star, but he's going to, of
- 36:04all places, Lexington, KY to play for the Wildcats.
- 36:10Did Iowa, I mean, does does this seem like it was going to
- 36:13happen? And if so, what went wrong at
- 36:16the end, if anything? Or was this always a long shot
- 36:18at best? So I would say that Iowa was
- 36:22definitely in a good spot. I mean, when you've got a legacy
- 36:25quarterback on campus who is from the Chicago area, that's
- 36:30always going to be a position that's going to be favorable for
- 36:34Iowa. And for a kid that knew the
- 36:38program, grew up around the program, it would it would make
- 36:41a lot of sense. But as he he started to rise up,
- 36:45those rankings ended up #2 with the other play, it just it
- 36:50became a situation where he blew up more than Iowa expected him
- 36:54to. And therefore, again, price tag
- 36:57increase as well. Competing.
- 36:58You get programs like Kentucky, like Oregon, like Kansas State.
- 37:03I mean, when when you're a new coach there who who's coming
- 37:06over from Oregon, obviously he's got some pedigree with what he's
- 37:10done. Will Stein with quarterbacks at
- 37:13Oregon. And then you're in a position
- 37:15where you need to build a program.
- 37:17OK, here you go, here's your money.
- 37:19And this is the situation where Iowa didn't value him quite as
- 37:23much as some of these other programs and said, OK, we'd love
- 37:26to have you, but we're not going to throw out the red carpet.
- 37:29We're not going to throw out a bag of cash.
- 37:31And therefore now right there he goes.
- 37:33He ends up at Kentucky, which if if that's where he wants to be,
- 37:37there you go. Iowa, like I said, wasn't going
- 37:40to, you know, spend more than they felt like they needed to.
- 37:44We jump into practice, the actual things going on.
- 37:48A lot of good Nuggets you guys have over at Hawkeye Insider.
- 37:51Let's start, though, with the most obvious the quarterback
- 37:53position. What are you hearing?
- 37:54Jeremy Heklinski against Hank Brown.
- 37:58Man, I tell you what you guys, I I can keep giving you the same
- 38:02update for the next few. Months because.
- 38:04That's the way. It's just the way what we're
- 38:06hearing. You know, I'll quote a source
- 38:08and and say that it appears like it's going to go again and I
- 38:14quote down to the wire. So this might be one we don't
- 38:17find out fully until we get that first depth chart and who knows
- 38:21we might not even get it then we might have get a big ol or right
- 38:24there. So we might not know until the
- 38:271st snap against against Northern Illinois and Phoenix
- 38:30Stadium on September. I think it's September 5th, but
- 38:34yeah, I, I it's just one of those things where one guy has a
- 38:37great day, the other guy doesn't, and then vice versa.
- 38:41They got they bring different things to the table.
- 38:43Hank Brown more of a, you know, a mechanical guy that actually
- 38:46has had some experience playing college football.
- 38:48Where is that? Kolinsky hasn't, but then again,
- 38:51had Kolinsky is is the gamer that a lot of people really like
- 38:55that can extend plays, make tough some tough throws, but
- 38:59also will take a risk here and there.
- 39:02So Hecklinski, a guy that could win you a game but also could
- 39:08lose you a game. And then you look at Hank Brown
- 39:10and he's a guy that probably won't win you a game but might
- 39:13not lose you a game too, depending on, you know, the
- 39:17throws and the decisions he makes.
- 39:18So both need to become better decision makers.
- 39:22Both still have a lot to learn. So yeah, I'd love to tell you
- 39:26right now, oh, Hank Brown or, or Jeremy Hecklinski is going to be
- 39:29the guy. In my opinion, it should be
- 39:31Hecklinski, but we we'll see. We'll see how things develop.
- 39:35We still got quite a while before before that first snap.
- 39:39Yeah, and you know what, it's it's great for business, but for
- 39:42both the websites and certainly for talk radio, the longer it
- 39:45goes, the better it is for everybody.
- 39:47So here's hoping that this thing drags out for a while.
- 39:51What else you watching, Elliot? What's, what's the position at
- 39:54that's caught your eye that you'll pay maybe closer
- 39:57attention? I mean, obviously it's hard not
- 39:59to watch the quarterbacks, but once we get to a week from
- 40:02Saturday, what will you be watching?
- 40:05I'm really intrigued at the the safety those two new safeties,
- 40:09Anthony Hawkins and Tyler Brown. Anthony Hawkins from Villanova,
- 40:12Tyler Brown from James Madison, both received their accolade.
- 40:16Their previous schools been hearing a lot of good things.
- 40:18Tyler Brown wasn't in practice when we were there.
- 40:21Just sounds like it was minor bumps and bruises.
- 40:23So that's why he didn't practice that day.
- 40:25So be one that I want to watch. We'll be watching corners.
- 40:29I mean, you know, kind of know what you're going to get from
- 40:31Deshawn Lee at this point, but sounds like there's going to be
- 40:34a real competition between Jalen Watson and Rashad Godfrey for
- 40:37that second corner spot. You have these moments where you
- 40:40see Godfrey do really well and run support, and he's a bigger
- 40:45guy that can kind of compliment maybe what Deshaun Lee does on
- 40:48the field. And then Jalen Watson sounds
- 40:50like he's just a playmaker kind of known for that at a high
- 40:54school speed ability to stick with guys.
- 40:57And then, yeah, I mean, linebacker is going to be really
- 41:00fun to watch too. I think.
- 41:02I mean, I just keep hearing really, really good things about
- 41:04Cam Buffington. So that's that's when we're
- 41:07going to keep an eye on. And then defensive line, it's a
- 41:10whole new group other than Kenneth Merriweather.
- 41:12You lose all four starters, plus Brian Allen.
- 41:15So basically the entirety of the defense is what I'll be finding
- 41:20at this point. But I mean, and there's so many
- 41:22new faces all over the place, like 25% of this roster, you
- 41:26basically know what you're going to get.
- 41:27But then there's 75% where we just really don't know how.
- 41:31How are the snaps going to go with Kate Peeper?
- 41:33Is he going to be thinking too much about what's happening?
- 41:36If he's if he's playing center, who's going to be at right
- 41:38guard? Leighton Jones taking over at
- 41:41left guard, Who's going to be is it going to be Jack Dosler at
- 41:44right tackle? Do we know that for sure?
- 41:45Is Canon Leonard going to get a shot?
- 41:47I mean, and then you throw LJ Phillips in the transfer from
- 41:49South Dakota, Evan James, receiver from Furman.
- 41:53So this time of year is always really fun just because of all
- 41:56the new faces. But this time it's going to be a
- 41:58lot of new faces and just basically pretty much every
- 42:02position. Ellie Clef, hawkeyeinsider.com
- 42:05have it covered over there along with David Icolt as they keep an
- 42:09eye on iowahawkeyeinsider.com, part of 24/7 Sports.
- 42:14Ellie, thanks for giving us a few minutes today.
- 42:16Appreciate it. Yeah, thanks, Ken.
- 42:19Don't forget Sean Bach too. Thank you.
- 42:21Yeah, absolutely. Thank you for reminding me.
- 42:23I'm glad you got that in there. Sean Bach as.
- 42:25Well, and I got to meet Sean down in Houston.
- 42:27You did, yes. Did you have a beer with?
- 42:29Him, he did, yes. We chatted for a little bit.
- 42:31First time we've actually met in person, conversed a little bit
- 42:33online. But yeah, it was good to
- 42:35actually meet him in person as he was getting ready to head
- 42:37over to the arena much earlier than I did.
- 42:41I had to get another beer. Why wouldn't you?
- 42:42Oh, absolutely. You're there for fun, not.
- 42:45For work I had to get revved up. Yeah, primed up and away you
- 42:49went. Good stuff.
- 42:50We'll take a time. I will come back and finish out
- 42:52our hour. What?
- 42:52What is going on with live golf? If you've been paying attention
- 42:55to this story at all, it's hard to miss it if you're on Twitter
- 42:58as much as I am. I mean, one, one guy I read
- 43:00they're folding up shop. They're still entertaining what
- 43:03to do. The players have no ID if
- 43:05they're coming or going. They're supposed to have an
- 43:07event. I believe it's in Mexico, Mexico
- 43:09City this week. They don't know if they're going
- 43:11to get started, but all that money behind them tried to buy a
- 43:14league for a while like in my, but it certainly did.
- 43:17Not I never believed. No, it was, it's, it's so hard,
- 43:21right? It's it's like that God forsaken
- 43:23thing that they're trying to do in football.
- 43:25But the Spring League. Whatever it is, and they've got
- 43:28some bad, I mean, right, Mike Ripoli owns this league for
- 43:31essentially owns St. John's, you love that.
- 43:33Guy I just do because I love his stories.
- 43:35I mean, puts a little something in water, calls it vitamin
- 43:39Water, makes billions. Good for him.
- 43:41Miller and Condon, Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 43:58Hi Miller Condon final couple of minutes first hour of our
- 44:02program. David Kaplan kicks off the
- 44:05second hour of Chicago sports in the spotlight with CAPPY every
- 44:09Wednesday at 1:00. Most Wednesday sometimes joins
- 44:12us a different day, but CAPPY sponsored by Centurion Stone of
- 44:16Iowa. So Fast forward to Saturday for
- 44:18for sports fans in the Twin Cities, we know they're not
- 44:22going to the ballpark middle of the afternoon.
- 44:25They can watch the Nuggets go up against the Wolves.
- 44:30So T Wolves on the road in Denver, 2:30 in the afternoon.
- 44:34At the same time, the Stars will be hosting the Minnesota Wild.
- 44:40It's the state of hockey self. Proclaimed.
- 44:42Self-proclaimed, and I agree with them by the.
- 44:44Way. Yeah, there's probably not
- 44:45another North Dakota Navy. I can't think of which one would
- 44:49Michigan. Michigan.
- 44:50A lot of good hockey there. Yeah, but no, it's Minnesota.
- 44:52It's Minnesota, yeah, but I just like to give people hard times
- 44:56when they self-proclaimed themselves things like the
- 44:58Minnesotans do. It's hockey.
- 45:00It is the Timberwolves. It's been a nice story,
- 45:04obviously built up. They've gone through an
- 45:05ownership change and that has definitely, I think, helped the
- 45:08relations with the fan base. But it's about the wild.
- 45:11If they win a series again, the Timberwolves get to the second
- 45:15round, I think that'll build up again.
- 45:17But yeah, it's the wild there, and you've told me they got a
- 45:20real shot. They do.
- 45:21They gotta get by. They get by the stars.
- 45:23They think they can win it all. And by the way, Joe O'Donnell,
- 45:25the voice of the Wild will join me as Trent's off tomorrow and
- 45:28Friday will join me in the first hour of the program to more to
- 45:32preview Wild stars and and the rest of the playoffs for you NHL
- 45:35fans out there. What are you most excited to see
- 45:38that game? That that that series?
- 45:40Yeah. Buffalo getting in.
- 45:42That's a great story. Yeah.
- 45:43Great story but if I could only watch one series it's it's
- 45:46Dallas and Minnesota. The good thing is.
- 45:48You don't have. To you don't have to.
- 45:49We both know you will not only watch one series, oh heck no,
- 45:53you will be watching it all. It's such a great time of year
- 45:55for me. Love it, love it, love it.
- 45:57Stanley Cup playoffs, We'll talk to Joe O'Donnell tomorrow.
- 46:00Stars and the Wild, they collide Saturday afternoon, same time
- 46:04the Nuggets and the T Wolves put the ball in the air.
- 46:07We'll head to Chicago next at the Kansas City with Nick Gathan
- 46:11on the Chiefs. They have two first round picks.
- 46:13We'll start to focus in on some of our regional NFL teams.
- 46:16Trent will make some picks. Circus Sports sponsor those.
- 46:18Hour 2 is next, Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 46:22Network.
