- 0:00Speaker 1: Want more Treehouse, check out our YouTube exclusive shows at
- 0:02Speaker 1: YouTube dot com. Slash at Treehouse on air.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It is time to believe your warriors outside and laugh
- 0:13Speaker 2: with us inside the Treehouse. I'm Daniel Matt along with
- 0:17Speaker 2: Trade Trenholm and Raj Sharma. Lots of happenings at the
- 0:25Speaker 2: Winter Olympics in Milan. It seems, I mean, people are
- 0:33Speaker 2: somewhat paying attention to it. One because of the wiener
- 0:36Speaker 2: juicing with the ski jumpers, but I don't really remember
- 0:40Speaker 2: a whole lot of PMP and circumstance as far as
- 0:43Speaker 2: you know, the opening ceremonies and stuff. It just feels
- 0:45Speaker 2: like so much other stuff is going on. It feels
- 0:48Speaker 2: like the Winter Olympics are kind of just like a
- 0:49Speaker 2: backdrop of something happening, as opposed to it usually feels
- 0:53Speaker 2: more like a forefront. Does it feel that way to you, guys?
- 0:56Speaker 3: No, I've enjoyed it.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I mean it's it's always anytime the Olympics are on
- 1:02Speaker 1: a time delay, I think I think that that affects things,
- 1:07Speaker 1: but I've actually I've enjoyed the coverage because it's just
- 1:12Speaker 1: enough of a time delay where you just kind of
- 1:14Speaker 1: get the highlights at night and especially with the technology now,
- 1:17Speaker 1: I mean you can go on Peacock or whatever and
- 1:21Speaker 1: you know, have a multi view thing and you can
- 1:23Speaker 1: be watching three four events at once.
- 1:25Speaker 3: If one looks really good, click on that and you
- 1:28Speaker 3: know it goes full screen.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But so yeah, because for a while it was you know,
- 1:33Speaker 2: before streaming really took off, you have multiple channels, like
- 1:38Speaker 2: NBC what had they'd have and it still is main okay,
- 1:41Speaker 2: still like that. So you would have like main events
- 1:43Speaker 2: on NBC, like whatever your local NBC affiliate was. Then
- 1:47Speaker 2: you would also have other events on other NBC properties USA, USA,
- 1:53Speaker 2: MSNBC C NBC CNBC, So you'd have all these and
- 1:57Speaker 2: then the schedule and then the different channels. So yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: I mean having the streaming part of it certainly helps
- 2:03Speaker 2: if you can find it all in one place. Maybe
- 2:06Speaker 2: it seemed a little lost for me just because it
- 2:09Speaker 2: started the same weekend as the Super Bowl did. And
- 2:12Speaker 2: maybe it'll pick up now that all that's over and
- 2:16Speaker 2: it gets a little more of the spotlight. I did
- 2:19Speaker 2: notice though. In addition to the ski jumping situation, the
- 2:22Speaker 2: big news of the last few days was Lindsey Vaughn
- 2:27Speaker 2: attempting skiing downhill with a ruptured ACL tendon and ligament
- 2:35Speaker 2: thank you ligament.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Sorry, I know better than that.
- 2:38Speaker 2: With a ruptured ACL, I mean it's right there, it's
- 2:41Speaker 2: the l end the thing. Yeah, my bad.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And that's on top of.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Like she had had partial replacement, but having blown in ACL.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I don't know how she thought she was gonna downhill ski.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I mean that that is.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Yeah, they just covered that on c SPAN, so uh.
- 3:06Speaker 4: That wasn't even that didn't even make network.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And that's part of the reason I wanted to bring
- 3:11Speaker 2: this up is because Trey have I know that you've
- 3:13Speaker 2: had knee problems. I've known that you've blown out your knee,
- 3:17Speaker 2: and I didn't know if it was to the same
- 3:19Speaker 2: degree that she had done hers going into skiing, but.
- 3:22Speaker 3: I it was one hundred percent blowout.
- 3:25Speaker 5: It looks like a spaghetti's partial tear ah.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Meniscus and a cluh.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Knock on wood. I have not blown out a knee.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yet, and I have a torn pcl am.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I right, well, now, you're just you know, scoreab, you're
- 3:44Speaker 4: just bragging.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Look at me.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I don't know what uh and and and and I.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Hate to say this because it's the Olympics and it's
- 3:53Speaker 5: what it is. At her age, she shouldn't be trying
- 3:57Speaker 5: to do this again.
- 3:59Speaker 2: That's the other reason why I wanted to bring this up.
- 4:01Speaker 2: One was because I know that we've got knee experience
- 4:03Speaker 2: inside the treehouse and because of the opinions flying around
- 4:07Speaker 2: about whether or not she should have been doing this
- 4:09Speaker 2: in the first place.
- 4:13Speaker 4: No, I don't know why. I don't know what the
- 4:14Speaker 4: motivation is.
- 4:17Speaker 2: One less go when yeah, that was ultimate competitor and.
- 4:22Speaker 1: She was doing great, but I have to assume they
- 4:25Speaker 1: had an alternate for the US Women's downhill skiers, and
- 4:30Speaker 1: when she popped her ACL nine days before, I don't
- 4:33Speaker 1: know why they didn't replace her, because I mean, granted,
- 4:37Speaker 1: she's a level of athlete I never was, and has
- 4:42Speaker 1: access to you know, training technology, everything else.
- 4:46Speaker 3: And I did my I blew.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I had ACL reconstruction thirty years ago, actually thirty oh god,
- 4:53Speaker 1: thirty five years ago. So I know the technology has changed,
- 4:58Speaker 1: but the structure of the has not. And the a
- 5:02Speaker 1: CL is what you know, your goes when you're doing
- 5:04Speaker 1: trying to do lateral motion left to right and when
- 5:07Speaker 1: you're on skis that that is you are stressing that
- 5:11Speaker 1: as far as possible.
- 5:13Speaker 3: So that.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I just don't know how they thought she was gonna
- 5:18Speaker 1: make it.
- 5:19Speaker 5: I mean, when you had your surgery thirty five years ago,
- 5:22Speaker 5: did they just give you whiskey and make you bite
- 5:24Speaker 5: on a stick?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Well, they did it, and they broke out the hammer
- 5:28Speaker 2: and chisel for the knee.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Well, I'll tell you one of the biggest things.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The difference is at that time, they spliced your patella tendon, yes,
- 5:37Speaker 1: to make your ACL. Where now they'll take it from
- 5:40Speaker 1: a cadac. What because one of the problems I have
- 5:44Speaker 1: still to this day, it's not the two screws, it's
- 5:48Speaker 1: the tendon itis. I will tend to get in in
- 5:50Speaker 1: the front of my knee from where they splice that tendon.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, so sure.
- 5:55Speaker 2: So this is why I mean I was curious about
- 5:58Speaker 2: it because from a physical standpoint.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, she shouldn't have been doing it.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Well no, but hang on, I mean from a physical standpoint,
- 6:05Speaker 2: my understanding was that she couldn't do any more damage
- 6:09Speaker 2: to it, right, Like it was already blown. You can't
- 6:11Speaker 2: do any more damage to that ACL, right.
- 6:14Speaker 5: I mean, you can't do any more damage to the ACL.
- 6:16Speaker 5: But there's a PCL and an MCL, right.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So That's what I'm getting at is so that was
- 6:21Speaker 2: already So what I'm wondering then, is her reasoning for
- 6:27Speaker 2: wanting to still make the attempt. Was it because I
- 6:30Speaker 2: can't do any more damage on that because it's already
- 6:33Speaker 2: blown out?
- 6:35Speaker 4: Was that?
- 6:36Speaker 1: I think it was more the fact that she's made
- 6:38Speaker 1: all this effort to make a comeback and it was
- 6:41Speaker 1: doing great. I mean, cutis to her at forty one.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You know she was kicking ass. But again, you've already
- 6:50Speaker 1: damaged things and then you've got things reconstructed, and this is.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Just gonna make it worse.
- 6:56Speaker 5: I mean, this second reconstruction is the arthritis that you're
- 7:01Speaker 5: going to get the like he was saying, the ten
- 7:04Speaker 5: of the night is that you're going to get is
- 7:06Speaker 5: just going to be awful for the rest of your life.
- 7:08Speaker 5: So there was no point to this. Some people just
- 7:13Speaker 5: want to remain relevant, that's the thing.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Well, and I don't know if it's necessarily just being
- 7:21Speaker 2: a remaining relevant conversation. Think of it in terms of
- 7:28Speaker 2: like like Michael Jordan the flu game, okay, the flu game,
- 7:36Speaker 2: had he passed out halfway through that game and didn't
- 7:40Speaker 2: finish and they lose the game and they lose that series.
- 7:44Speaker 2: People might have had a similar reaction to what they're
- 7:46Speaker 2: saying about Lindsay Vaughn, right, but he didn't. Instead, it
- 7:51Speaker 2: increased his legendary status. Happened with the MAVs with Dirk
- 7:55Speaker 2: Novinsky with when he had a sick game and had
- 7:58Speaker 2: an amazing performance. It's very difficult to tell someone who's
- 8:01Speaker 2: at the top of their game, who already has wild success.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It's not like someone who's just a really good athlete
- 8:08Speaker 2: and they're just they're trying to, you know, make their mark.
- 8:11Speaker 2: We're talking about the people that have already made their mark.
- 8:13Speaker 2: They're credible, and if they say I'm going to do this,
- 8:17Speaker 2: don't you just sort of go, all right, well it's
- 8:20Speaker 2: this person, you let him go.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Well, but it's it's not I mean, you have to understand.
- 8:24Speaker 5: It's not like you and Trey getting the flu and
- 8:28Speaker 5: me getting the flu.
- 8:29Speaker 4: They have doctors, they have medication, they have IVS.
- 8:32Speaker 5: So when he was sick uh and he was throwing
- 8:37Speaker 5: up in the in the locker room, they gave him
- 8:39Speaker 5: what he needed. They probably gave him Zoe friend. They
- 8:43Speaker 5: probably gave him a standard steroid iv UH that killed
- 8:47Speaker 5: it all and that's why he came back into that game.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Same with Dirk, same with I mean, but Lindsay Vaughan.
- 8:53Speaker 5: When you're tearing ligaments and muscles and you're actually physically
- 8:58Speaker 5: hurting your body like that's a hard comeback.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Especially for someone.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I mean, she made a name for herself because she
- 9:08Speaker 1: was borderline reckless in how she skied. That's how she
- 9:11Speaker 1: was either great or she got injured a lot.
- 9:14Speaker 5: She also took a nine iron to Tiger Woods, so
- 9:18Speaker 5: I think that's also didn't.
- 9:20Speaker 4: She Wasn't she the one that beat his ass?
- 9:22Speaker 3: No, that was his wife.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Uh? I thought it was No, that was dated after
- 9:28Speaker 4: Oh they did it after the wife.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah, much much much later.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, okay, yeah, no Elan was cheating on her
- 9:34Speaker 4: with Hooters waitresses.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Uh yeah, no Elan. Elan was first to the tea
- 9:40Speaker 2: box on Tiger when he was he was cheating on
- 9:43Speaker 2: her with all the VIP Vegas girls and the Hooters waitress. Okay,
- 9:47Speaker 2: she's the one that chased him out of the house
- 9:49Speaker 2: with you know, three wood or whatever.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I can't remember all of his white girls.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Now.
- 9:54Speaker 1: There was actually some people theorized that he did not
- 9:59Speaker 1: like the fact that she was famous.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Uh, that's why he was banging Hooters waitresses of he
- 10:08Speaker 5: didn't like anybody wanting to be more famous than him.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Uh.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Anyway, I was just curious about the Lindsay vonn thing
- 10:14Speaker 2: because it fascinated me. Here's here's here's an athlete who's
- 10:18Speaker 2: you know, made her living this way. She's done very
- 10:20Speaker 2: well for herself. She's trying to do one last hurrah,
- 10:24Speaker 2: and her her big finish ended up being air lifted
- 10:27Speaker 2: off the mountain in Italy, which, if.
- 10:28Speaker 3: We're being honest, it's not too bad.
- 10:30Speaker 4: I mean it's very special.
- 10:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's there's no such I mean, they
- 10:35Speaker 5: what they say in Hollywood, there's no such thing as
- 10:37Speaker 5: bad publicity.
- 10:38Speaker 1: M hm.
- 10:39Speaker 5: So I mean she's she's getting all the news coverage
- 10:43Speaker 5: for the Olympics, so you got to I mean.
- 10:45Speaker 1: She they mounted a campaign with this whole comeback. I
- 10:48Speaker 1: mean it was certainly marketed well and everything else. Listen,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I give her credit because once you tear your a
- 10:54Speaker 1: c l especially mentally, you know you're.
- 10:59Speaker 3: You're never the same.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It's really hard because you felt that knee, you felt
- 11:04Speaker 1: your knee, your joint give out, and it's the weirdest
- 11:07Speaker 1: feeling in the world.
- 11:08Speaker 3: And when I ever go back from that.
- 11:10Speaker 5: Feeling, when I walk down the stairs, I still hold
- 11:14Speaker 5: It doesn't matter how I'm feeling, I still hold the
- 11:17Speaker 5: railing because I'm worried that it's gonna something's gonna happen,
- 11:21Speaker 5: still till this day. And this happened when I was seventeen,
- 11:26Speaker 5: and now I'm fifty, And every time I walk down
- 11:29Speaker 5: a flight or come up a flight stairs, I'll hold
- 11:31Speaker 5: the railing like an old like an old lady, because
- 11:35Speaker 5: I'm worried that it's gonna give out again.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's where I that's where I come from
- 11:39Speaker 2: as well. When I see people say things on video,
- 11:43Speaker 2: like when I see comments on the story that Lindsay
- 11:45Speaker 2: Von crashed in the video of her crashing, people saying like, Ah,
- 11:49Speaker 2: she shouldn't have been there, she shouldn't have done that.
- 11:50Speaker 2: That's stupid, that's reckless, she shouldn't have been on that mountain.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It's like, you really want to be the person to
- 11:56Speaker 2: tell her no, Well.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Listen, it's her choice. And it's not like she was
- 12:01Speaker 1: given the spot. She earned the sport.
- 12:03Speaker 3: She she was top three. She like I said, she
- 12:06Speaker 3: was killing killing it.
- 12:08Speaker 2: But yeah, She was doing great until that gate gott
- 12:11Speaker 2: in away, and had that not happened, she might have
- 12:13Speaker 2: been fine and might have had the miracle finished she
- 12:15Speaker 2: was looking for. I just look at it and go like,
- 12:18Speaker 2: she's doing that on one leg, and she is doing
- 12:22Speaker 2: She did more on that mountain on one leg than
- 12:26Speaker 2: I'm going to do on two all month long.
- 12:33Speaker 4: What was the more poles than that? He'll get more
- 12:39Speaker 4: poles than that.
- 12:43Speaker 5: What was the name of the gymnast that the female
- 12:46Speaker 5: gymnast that had the busted leg and still took it home.
- 12:50Speaker 2: For us on her twisted ankle?
- 12:53Speaker 4: Yeah? And she, I mean she the dream man.
- 12:56Speaker 2: She she she catapulted. Yeah, Team America into the gold medal.
- 13:02Speaker 2: She's stuck the landing and got carried off by a
- 13:05Speaker 2: handsome Russian older man, as most women at the Olympics do. Yes,
- 13:12Speaker 2: which leads me question, have we seen her? Since we
- 13:16Speaker 2: have not, did you ever bring her back?

- 16:02Speaker 2: of Carrie Strug. It's been a full show already, Trey.
- 16:07Speaker 2: How was it that you actually blew out your knee.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Running with the ball and Uh. Two guys tackled me.
- 16:13Speaker 1: One came in it was my left knee, one came
- 16:16Speaker 1: in from the left, one came in on up high,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and one came in from the right down low. And
- 16:20Speaker 1: it just literally a millisecond either way. It's fine, but
- 16:25Speaker 1: they just hit it right when I was perfectly my
- 16:27Speaker 1: knee was leg was extended and it just popped and
- 16:31Speaker 1: I felt it pop. But I walked off the field,
- 16:33Speaker 1: went back in. Uh, And it was like two plays later,
- 16:36Speaker 1: I was running the ball again and then I went
- 16:38Speaker 1: to plant and I just collapsed because my knee.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Just gave way.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So it was still obviously operational. It wasn't like you
- 16:47Speaker 2: got Alvin macked in the program.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Where now I played the rest in the game, Jesus
- 16:52Speaker 5: Tray and I see adrenaline too.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I mean there's there's also the adrenaline going through your body.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Well, I mean at halftime, I was told what I
- 17:01Speaker 1: had done, and because the coaches just felt it and
- 17:04Speaker 1: they were like, yeah, to your a c L.
- 17:06Speaker 2: But it's Texas high school football and just like varsity blues.
- 17:13Speaker 3: And then give me a shot. Let's let's put a
- 17:16Speaker 3: brace on it. And played the next two games.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, mine was a I don't have that that glorious story.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Mine was in the off season.
- 17:30Speaker 5: I was off balance when I was going to do
- 17:34Speaker 5: uh uh, we're doing power trap polls, and my coach
- 17:38Speaker 5: kept saying, move your legs out, move your legs out.
- 17:42Speaker 4: I was like, I feel fine.
- 17:43Speaker 5: He's like, move your legs out, and I didn't listen
- 17:47Speaker 5: to him, and I pulled up two forty five and
- 17:52Speaker 5: same thing is when you hear that pop, and I
- 17:55Speaker 5: was like ugh, And luckily mine was just a partial
- 17:58Speaker 5: tear and double moniscus.
- 18:00Speaker 4: But I fell to the ground.
- 18:02Speaker 5: But I didn't want to tell people that I got
- 18:05Speaker 5: hurt in the off season, like that's a horrible story.
- 18:09Speaker 5: So I would tell people I was in on spring
- 18:12Speaker 5: break and I saw a lady getting attacked by a shark,
- 18:18Speaker 5: and I ran into the ocean and got her out,
- 18:23Speaker 5: but she was a bigger lady, and by the time
- 18:26Speaker 5: we got to shore, my knee popped. And I can't
- 18:30Speaker 5: tell you how many people leave that story like you're
- 18:39Speaker 5: a hero. I'm like, no, I'm not.
- 18:42Speaker 3: How I tore my PCL is a far worse story
- 18:45Speaker 3: than that.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Was it in shark invested waters next to her, saving
- 18:50Speaker 2: the fat lady.
- 18:51Speaker 4: That's all I was trying to say. I saved a
- 18:53Speaker 4: fat lady from a shark.
- 18:55Speaker 1: What I now, First of all, you have to understand
- 18:58Speaker 1: is that your PCL is a hundred times harder to
- 19:02Speaker 1: tear than your your A c L or M c L.
- 19:04Speaker 3: It's impact is.
- 19:06Speaker 2: The PCL, the one that's on the inside or the
- 19:09Speaker 2: outside of the knee.
- 19:10Speaker 3: It's a back It controls.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Back, front, and behind it.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, okay, so typically it took the side.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:20Speaker 3: And you know I tore mine because I had a
- 19:23Speaker 3: night tear.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I thought there was raccoons under my bed, and I
- 19:26Speaker 1: leapt out of the bed and I crashed on.
- 19:28Speaker 3: My leg.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And that did what to your knee?
- 19:33Speaker 3: Tore my p CL.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Because of a night terror. In your night terror, raccoons
- 19:43Speaker 2: were coming to get you.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I left out of the bed, I landed like I
- 19:48Speaker 3: was Iron Man and.
- 19:50Speaker 2: You did the Superhero landing. Huh, that's what it's just
- 19:54Speaker 2: like that says, it's really hard on the joint. It's
- 19:57Speaker 2: not a good idea.
- 20:00Speaker 5: So sorry, no, it's no I can picture it, and
- 20:04Speaker 5: I know what happens. It's gonna be so painful.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I don't currently have a membership to a AI video
- 20:15Speaker 2: making website, but I might start one today just to
- 20:18Speaker 2: see that video come to life.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Why raccoons, This is my question. Like, I don't care
- 20:28Speaker 5: how you lamed it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: My night terror is always involved some kind of almost
- 20:34Speaker 1: always wild animal, rat, possum, raccoon, snake, that were under
- 20:40Speaker 1: my bed, and I was always trying to escape them.
- 20:44Speaker 5: Interesting, I wonder why that is, Well, it was probably
- 20:48Speaker 5: living in the country didn't help.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Night terrors are one of those things. They of all things,
- 20:53Speaker 1: they cannot really explain.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Yeah, but superhero But to be to be fair, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 2: Trey did live in the country, and so I mean
- 21:05Speaker 2: critters under your bed that can't happen.
- 21:09Speaker 5: But you thought there were raccoons under the bed, so
- 21:12Speaker 5: you superhero landed.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I didn't. I wasn't trying to superhero land.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I just leapt from the bed and I ended up
- 21:18Speaker 1: super landing.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Oh okay, I thought you were making that like, ah,
- 21:22Speaker 4: I was.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I wasn't going for style points.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he was afraid of the raccoons. He wasn't accepting
- 21:29Speaker 2: the challenge. He wasn't waiting. He wasn't waiting for the
- 21:33Speaker 2: rest of his team to assemble behind his superhero landing.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I didn't think the opossums were judging.
- 21:41Speaker 4: You're ironic, man, assumes are in the tree. Wow. Okay,
- 21:51Speaker 4: and that's how you told you you tore your.
- 21:53Speaker 5: PCL, so you've had a full knee reconstruction.
- 21:57Speaker 3: The MCL is still good. So that was on my
- 22:00Speaker 3: right left leg ACL right leg PCO.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Oh boy, so you have horrific arthritis.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Uh, get in there. Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And if I remember the chart correctly in one of
- 22:12Speaker 2: my doctor's offices when I was a kid, like teenager
- 22:15Speaker 2: sports medicine stuff, the unhappy triad is when you blow
- 22:21Speaker 2: out the ACL, the pcls and the.
- 22:23Speaker 4: MCL and you meniscus.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I've lost a third of my meniscus in both.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 5: They stapled mine down like luckily that I mean not luckily,
- 22:34Speaker 5: but back then that was the procedure. Is when you
- 22:37Speaker 5: tore it, they didn't remove it. They kind of put
- 22:41Speaker 5: it because it's the butterfly, right, so they just go
- 22:44Speaker 5: in and staple it back down into this point.
- 22:47Speaker 2: It never ceases to amaze me, the orthopedic medicine and
- 22:52Speaker 2: how all the advancements in medicine and technology there have
- 22:55Speaker 2: been throughout the years and orthopedic surgeons are still you
- 23:00Speaker 2: using some of the same tools they used to torture
- 23:02Speaker 2: people in the Spanish Inquisition.
- 23:05Speaker 1: You you go look at a knee replacement and what's involved. Yeah,
- 23:09Speaker 1: and you would think it was some kind of medieval torture.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I mean the spikes and hammers.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what they call me. So not having a
- 23:17Speaker 2: major knee issue. I did have a rod inserted into
- 23:20Speaker 2: my left humorous when I was fourteen because of a
- 23:23Speaker 2: compound fracture in the middle of my upper arm. And
- 23:26Speaker 2: the first thing they tell me, because they had to
- 23:28Speaker 2: stick a surgical rod in there to set it, the
- 23:31Speaker 2: first thing they tell me when I'm in recovery and
- 23:33Speaker 2: waking up is yeah, apparently they said there's a whole
- 23:35Speaker 2: lot of hammer going on in there. At the time,
- 23:38Speaker 2: I was like coming out of and it'sta.
- 23:40Speaker 5: I'm just like, you'll be surprised how much black and
- 23:45Speaker 5: deckor is in an r Like when they go to
- 23:49Speaker 5: saw and you know, cut open your chest, uh, or
- 23:53Speaker 5: to cut open an arm like you hadn't there's a
- 23:56Speaker 5: lot of a there's a lot of saws and it's
- 23:59Speaker 5: it's up manufactured by like Pfizer.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Uh, it's from Lows.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I got you here in Mkeita bone saw.
- 24:10Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised. It makes sense.
- 24:13Speaker 2: It's the same stuff. Just have stuff that's surgical grade
- 24:16Speaker 2: and stuff that's you know, for the construction.
- 24:17Speaker 4: See.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I mean it was like the stuff that I saw.
- 24:20Speaker 5: It was very pretty. It was blackendecker, but it was
- 24:25Speaker 5: like very shiny, very pretty, very sterilized.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:29Speaker 5: And that's what they would, you know, when they cut
- 24:31Speaker 5: somebody's chest open, what do you think they're using. It's
- 24:36Speaker 5: just a it's a it's a they call it a
- 24:39Speaker 5: bone saw, yeah, but you guys call it a circular saw.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Mm hm. And and they're probably using the same lithium
- 24:47Speaker 2: battery that goes in the bone saw that's going to
- 24:50Speaker 2: go into the circular saw later. That makes good sense.
- 24:54Speaker 4: I'm just glad it was always charged.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Well, it's important to have charging stations both at home
- 25:00Speaker 2: and in the o R.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Because can you imagine going through somebody's chest and the
- 25:06Speaker 5: saw turns off like he's fucked.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Man, I didn't even get him open all the way.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I don't want to go in manual. Let's just wait
- 25:14Speaker 2: till that thing charges up. Just go get some knee.
- 25:16Speaker 5: Yeah, everyone's watching the lights, just sitting for that second
- 25:24Speaker 5: barn And started.
- 25:27Speaker 2: They all decide to turn on the pit while the
- 25:29Speaker 2: three charges and they look and go like, man, that
- 25:31Speaker 2: show is really accurate.
- 25:33Speaker 5: It, you know, And I've been watching the Pit and
- 25:35Speaker 5: it's so good and it is very accurate because I've
- 25:38Speaker 5: been watching. They had one moment the other like the
- 25:42Speaker 5: second to last episode where they asked for a certain
- 25:46Speaker 5: medication and I was like, that's not for that, Like
- 25:51Speaker 5: that's very sweet and it sounds really funny and it
- 25:54Speaker 5: sounds really medical, but that's not to treat somebody's, you know,
- 26:00Speaker 5: heart issue.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I might want to double check that, because that's one
- 26:03Speaker 2: of the things that I've seen across the board about
- 26:05Speaker 2: that show is that how medically accurate it is. Like
- 26:08Speaker 2: there was one there was just one. There's a r
- 26:12Speaker 2: doctor they brought in to just sort of consult on
- 26:14Speaker 2: the set after they had it all put together and everything,
- 26:17Speaker 2: and he said he just looking around. He's like, I
- 26:19Speaker 2: feel like I'm right back in the middle of you know,
- 26:21Speaker 2: an er and he's like he opened up a couple
- 26:23Speaker 2: of random drawers and it was the exact things that
- 26:26Speaker 2: would be in his emergency rooms, like well and the
- 26:29Speaker 2: actual stuff.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Michael Crichton, who was the creator of er Uh is
- 26:36Speaker 5: a fantastic doctor, or was a fantastic doctor that I
- 26:40Speaker 5: mean he went to Mass General.
- 26:41Speaker 4: I mean he's he's a Harvard educated Uh. And he
- 26:45Speaker 4: was wrong.
- 26:47Speaker 5: It was the only time in one episode, in one
- 26:50Speaker 5: sentence that one of the nurses said something about heart
- 26:54Speaker 5: medication and it was wrong.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Uh.
- 26:58Speaker 5: And I and I just out. I was like, no,
- 27:01Speaker 5: that's for mental health. That's like for anxiety or something
- 27:05Speaker 5: like that. But the name of it, I can't remember
- 27:08Speaker 5: what it was, but the name of it was because
- 27:10Speaker 5: it's lengthy and it's you know, it sounds fancy, so
- 27:14Speaker 5: we need that stat I'm like, but you don't. They're
- 27:19Speaker 5: having a heart attack. Other than that, I'm fascinated by
- 27:24Speaker 5: that show. And I'm so glad Noah Wiley is getting
- 27:27Speaker 5: his flowers because he never got one for er and
- 27:33Speaker 5: he's doing such a great job on the show. And
- 27:35Speaker 5: the show is really accurate. So I mean you'll notice that.
- 27:40Speaker 5: I mean people come in like same thing with like
- 27:42Speaker 5: with Trey. People will come in on that show with
- 27:45Speaker 5: you know, compound fractures like you had Dan and acl
- 27:48Speaker 5: tears and you know, they just knock it out because
- 27:50Speaker 5: they know what to do and they know what to say.
- 27:53Speaker 4: And such a fan of that show, such a fan.
- 27:59Speaker 2: The hammering and the scraping, the sawing.
- 28:06Speaker 5: Mmm, I could have done it, it was I mean.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I could have done that part of the job and
- 28:14Speaker 2: been like, I was, dude, this sounds like fun.
- 28:16Speaker 4: You could You could saw somebody's chest open.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, it's just they got in the way.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it was more of the math.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I think it's the wooden clubhouse that got in the way,
- 28:31Speaker 5: the wooden shock that he ran into. I think that's
- 28:35Speaker 5: what stopped him from being doctor O'Malley well, I.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Mean I started out that game saying I'm gonna be
- 28:41Speaker 2: a doctor when I grow.
- 28:43Speaker 4: Up, and they're like run towards that.
- 28:47Speaker 2: All right, not anymore, I'll do radio.

- 30:05Speaker 2: com slash Treehouse on Air, Trey. While you were gone
- 30:10Speaker 2: during the break, I was telling Raj about how I
- 30:12Speaker 2: broke my arms. That you guys had told how you
- 30:15Speaker 2: blew out your knees. So what had happened was so
- 30:19Speaker 2: I broke the bone mid humorous and the doctors even
- 30:22Speaker 2: said that's odd because usually it happens higher up on
- 30:25Speaker 2: the shoulder, lower down on the elbow. What had happened
- 30:29Speaker 2: that was in ninth grade. I'm covering a punt and
- 30:31Speaker 2: a guy does a crackback block on me, so he
- 30:34Speaker 2: blindsided me and so my left arm wrapped around my
- 30:38Speaker 2: rib cage and I landed on my side, on my
- 30:40Speaker 2: left side, so my left arm that humorous wrapped around
- 30:45Speaker 2: my rib cage and snapped when I landed. Yeah, and
- 30:48Speaker 2: then I knew something was bad because I felt it,
- 30:50Speaker 2: and then I'm kind of on it. So then I
- 30:52Speaker 2: try to roll and pull my arm out from behind
- 30:55Speaker 2: me around front, and that's when I felt the two
- 30:59Speaker 2: ends of the bone touch each other, and that didn't
- 31:03Speaker 2: feel good, and the bleeding and swelling and everything started immediately.
- 31:11Speaker 2: I probably it was an internal compound, so the bone
- 31:14Speaker 2: wasn't sticking out of the arm, but it was. It
- 31:16Speaker 2: was a compound.
- 31:17Speaker 5: Internal bleeding, the swelling, the bruising started almost They took
- 31:21Speaker 5: you to the hospital immediately, or did you?
- 31:24Speaker 4: They put me in the stands for a while, rubbed
- 31:29Speaker 4: some dirt on it.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Well, It's kind of like when Trey blew out his
- 31:33Speaker 2: knee and was treated like the star running back he was,
- 31:37Speaker 2: but also treated like the star running back in varsity Blues.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Trey blows out his knee and then plays not only
- 31:44Speaker 2: the rest of that game, but two more after that.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Because Texas High School football me, I have a compound
- 31:48Speaker 2: fracture in my arm, and instead of the ambulance coming
- 31:51Speaker 2: to take me to the hospital, I had to wait
- 31:53Speaker 2: for my mom to come pick me up in her Honda.
- 31:56Speaker 5: At halftime, well, at least you got to watch some
- 32:00Speaker 5: of the game. It was one of the most pathetic things.
- 32:06Speaker 2: So right after I break my arm, everyone, I'm like,
- 32:08Speaker 2: I'm on the ground, like, I'm not moving. This was bad.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I don't want to feel those two bones touched again.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And so everyone comes over it's like, oh my god,
- 32:14Speaker 2: you okay. I'm like, if I'm lying here not moving,
- 32:17Speaker 2: I'm not okay. Now this is a new school. This
- 32:19Speaker 2: is I think my third or fourth game at this
- 32:23Speaker 2: Oh wow. So no one really knew me yet, so
- 32:26Speaker 2: they didn't know that if I'm on the ground not moving,
- 32:29Speaker 2: it's bad. Yeah, they didn't know me well enough. So
- 32:33Speaker 2: one of the head coach comes over, is like.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Hey, you're probably fine, just pick him up.
- 32:38Speaker 2: And then they pick me up.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, no, no.
- 32:40Speaker 2: One of the guys that picks me up picks me
- 32:42Speaker 2: up by grabbing my broken arm like at the elbow,
- 32:45Speaker 2: trying to pick me up, and and and then I
- 32:49Speaker 2: told him not to do that again. In more colorful language,
- 32:54Speaker 2: and then the coach realizes, okay, maybe he might be hurt.
- 32:56Speaker 2: He's like, oh, you go over on the sideline. Okay, fine,
- 32:59Speaker 2: I go over the sideline. And then one of the
- 33:02Speaker 2: guys who was deemed too old to play in these games,
- 33:06Speaker 2: even though he did for the first few, he comes over.
- 33:09Speaker 2: One of the teammates comes over to help take off
- 33:11Speaker 2: my shoulder pads.
- 33:12Speaker 4: MM.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Also not a good idea. No, to this day, I
- 33:19Speaker 2: still remember punching Carrie Edwards right in the chest. And
- 33:24Speaker 2: this is a guy that was offered a Division I
- 33:26Speaker 2: scholarship to Arkansas.
- 33:29Speaker 5: I was I didn't know that. When you said Carrie Edwards,
- 33:32Speaker 5: I was like, what did she do? I attacked him.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I attacked a full blown defensive tackle Arkansas level player,
- 33:45Speaker 2: because he touched my boo boo, and he was like
- 33:49Speaker 2: that he told her. He was like, don't mess with him.
- 33:51Speaker 2: So they ended up putting me in the stands because
- 33:53Speaker 2: then I was becoming a distraction. So they stick me
- 33:54Speaker 2: in the stands by myself. As I'm now in shock,
- 33:57Speaker 2: I look like my skin looks like it's kind of
- 34:01Speaker 2: no color. And then my mom shows up and then
- 34:03Speaker 2: eventually takes me hospital.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Wow, okay, Yeah, all that.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Happened for me was.
- 34:12Speaker 5: They they did they did the like like you saw
- 34:15Speaker 5: in Varsity Blues.
- 34:16Speaker 4: They did do the shot like they gave me courtizone.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Uh, like picked up my patella and then put in
- 34:23Speaker 5: court zone.
- 34:23Speaker 4: And I'm like, I don't think this is legal. In
- 34:27Speaker 4: my head, I was like, shouldn't I be at a doctor?
- 34:32Speaker 5: No?
- 34:33Speaker 3: Uh?
- 34:33Speaker 5: And then uh, they did it twice and then I
- 34:38Speaker 5: had to go to see the doctor to get the
- 34:41Speaker 5: surgery done.
- 34:42Speaker 4: But it is Varsity Blues.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Is very authentic in that sense that they will actually
- 34:49Speaker 5: do whatever the fuck they need to do to win
- 34:53Speaker 5: a game.
- 34:54Speaker 2: The I cannot tell you how much I do not
- 34:58Speaker 2: recommend you bring making a bone and then driving a
- 35:02Speaker 2: nineteen and then your mom driving a nineteen eighty six
- 35:05Speaker 2: Honda Accord stick shift to the hospital with you and
- 35:09Speaker 2: the passenger side because there are going to be speed bumps.
- 35:14Speaker 5: Oh you felt, I mean because your bones broke. I
- 35:16Speaker 5: mean it's internal compound, so you're feeling everything on the road. Yeah,
- 35:24Speaker 5: that had to been horrific.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I was bad. And then then I got to
- 35:28Speaker 2: sit in the emergency room for like an hour and
- 35:30Speaker 2: a half before they ever gave me anything. Because I
- 35:33Speaker 2: wasn't gushing enough blood.
- 35:36Speaker 4: I would have stabbed myself.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I considered it for a while.
- 35:40Speaker 4: You're thirty sharp objects around here. I would have.
- 35:43Speaker 5: Stabbed my mom to just give me something, Just give
- 35:47Speaker 5: me something, take me to jail, or get me in
- 35:49Speaker 5: the room like that.
- 35:54Speaker 4: I've just been like, sorry, mom, h we're getting seen.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Now get a nice joint room. You always said you
- 36:06Speaker 2: want to spend more time with me, Say here you.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Go, or just a nice joint. Uh that would have
- 36:13Speaker 5: been good as well.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Well it's not all about us. Other
- 36:18Speaker 2: people on this planet have horrific injuries, including this one.
- 36:23Speaker 2: A Universal Orlando visitor died after writing Revenge of the
- 36:28Speaker 2: Mummy roller coaster. Seventy year old woman visiting Universal Orlando
- 36:36Speaker 2: died in November after riding the Revenge of the Mummy
- 36:39Speaker 2: roller coaster. The woman, who was not identified in the
- 36:42Speaker 2: Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, became unresponsive. I
- 36:47Speaker 2: love how they I love how they state this type
- 36:49Speaker 2: of stuff. Became unresponsive while riding the indoor attraction on
- 36:53Speaker 2: November twenty fifth, twenty twenty five, and later died at
- 36:56Speaker 2: a hospital. The report did not list a cause of death.
- 36:59Speaker 2: Revenge of the Mumm is an indoor roller coaster that
- 37:01Speaker 2: can reach speeds ab up to forty five miles based
- 37:04Speaker 2: off The Mummy and The Mummy Returns films. Since the
- 37:07Speaker 2: attraction opened in two thousand and four, there have been
- 37:09Speaker 2: twenty one reported incidents on the ride that range from
- 37:12Speaker 2: nausea and dizzyness to seizure and a vertebrae fracture. I
- 37:17Speaker 2: feel like they should release these stats more, like I
- 37:24Speaker 2: want to know the medical things that have happened to
- 37:26Speaker 2: people that have ridden these rides. Like I want to
- 37:28Speaker 2: see the list of symptoms that people have experienced.
- 37:35Speaker 5: You're you're not going to see a lot of brown
- 37:36Speaker 5: names are black names. It's kind of and somebody's I
- 37:41Speaker 5: know it was the Mummy turns, but somebody's Grandmummy is
- 37:45Speaker 5: not going to return.
- 37:46Speaker 4: So that's that's unfortunate.
- 37:52Speaker 5: Why you're seventy stop riding roller coasters, You've been on
- 37:57Speaker 5: one your whole life.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I think I think that's the time.
- 38:01Speaker 1: I think you get to a certain age, you know,
- 38:03Speaker 1: you take on the effic persona and go, you know,
- 38:08Speaker 1: oh no, I'm gonna die suddenly quickly and painlessly.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Okay, we don't know what it was like, but I mean,
- 38:16Speaker 5: she's gone. But what's what's the motivation for riding that ride?
- 38:28Speaker 4: You're seventy, you're a grandmama. Stay in, go get a chruro.
- 38:36Speaker 3: I don't know what to tell you.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Hold everyone's stuff, keep the purses. You're the old person.
- 38:46Speaker 2: What you're supposed to do, according to Raj, is not
- 38:48Speaker 2: have any fun whatsoever anymore. Instead, all the people that
- 38:52Speaker 2: are tall enough to ride and young enough to ride
- 38:55Speaker 2: will go do it. You are stuck holding everyone's stuff
- 38:59Speaker 2: and you have to keep an eye on the kid
- 39:01Speaker 2: or kids that are too small for the ride.
- 39:04Speaker 4: No, I'm not saying that.
- 39:05Speaker 5: I'm saying she should have let them go where they
- 39:07Speaker 5: were going, and she should have found a bar and
- 39:11Speaker 5: gotten hammered, because she'd still be alive today. But she's like,
- 39:18Speaker 5: you know what, I'm gonna ride this ride. And I'm like,
- 39:21Speaker 5: all right, well, we might kill you.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Or maybe after a day with her family, she's like,
- 39:25Speaker 1: good God, what have I done?
- 39:26Speaker 3: And jumped on the ride.
- 39:29Speaker 2: She may have just pulled depend on the safety bar. Look,
- 39:38Speaker 2: there's a sarcophagus right there. With any luck, I'll land
- 39:41Speaker 2: right in it or next to the rock, just become
- 39:46Speaker 2: part of the attaction.
- 39:51Speaker 4: She's the new ride. Grandmom returns.
- 39:59Speaker 2: That'd some seriou is fear and authenticity to her ride.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I'd be it'd be immediately the most popular ride.
- 40:05Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sure there's people that would ride it.
- 40:08Speaker 5: I don't do any of that stuff because I'm not
- 40:11Speaker 5: white and uh no, but I'm good on that.
- 40:18Speaker 3: What's you know? You either get smacked or Werthers.
- 40:24Speaker 4: I used to get both.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I'm enviously you guys, because, uh, my grandmother never had
- 40:33Speaker 2: the Werther's originals, but she had tons of the Lowden's
- 40:38Speaker 2: cough drops that she ate like candy. Oh my gosh,
- 40:41Speaker 2: my mother had jolly ranchers. Ah, that sounds that way
- 40:45Speaker 2: more fun. That's what she had. Uh and then uh
- 40:49Speaker 2: bank peppermints.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Mm hmm. You in the bowl at the bank.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Are you talking about the ones that were like the
- 40:55Speaker 2: soft that you could bite right through.
- 40:57Speaker 5: No, the ones that were hard and you had to
- 41:01Speaker 5: wait three hours before they were done.
- 41:06Speaker 4: I would watch that lady.
- 41:09Speaker 5: Withdraw ten thousand dollars and then as she's walking out,
- 41:14Speaker 5: steal the entire bowl of peppermints.
- 41:17Speaker 4: I'm like we can buy them, And my mom was like,
- 41:20Speaker 4: why would we?
- 41:22Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, that's hard to argue with.
- 41:24Speaker 2: That might be cheap, but she's got a hell of
- 41:32Speaker 2: a point.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Oh.
- 41:35Speaker 5: I remember when she passed away, We're clearing out some
- 41:38Speaker 5: of her stuff and I had all the purses were
- 41:40Speaker 5: there in her closet, and I think I counted about
- 41:44Speaker 5: one hundred and fifty red and white peppermints that I
- 41:50Speaker 5: cleared out of a bag. And I was like, how
- 41:54Speaker 5: cheap were you?
- 41:56Speaker 2: I know we're Indian, but I think the ultimate question
- 41:59Speaker 2: is did you take those and did you put them
- 42:02Speaker 2: like with her or did you keep them?
- 42:04Speaker 4: Well?
- 42:05Speaker 5: I put them in the trash because they were probably
- 42:09Speaker 5: fifteen years old.
- 42:10Speaker 4: She would have still eaten them, but they're probably still
- 42:13Speaker 4: fifteen years old. And Bros.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Caramels, Okay, yeah, yeah, See had you had you take
- 42:23Speaker 2: had you taken those mints and put those with her,
- 42:25Speaker 2: then she would have had fresh breath in the afterlife. Oh.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Trust me, what she took to the afterlife was worth
- 42:38Speaker 5: one hundred thousand dollars.
- 42:42Speaker 4: She was blinged out.
