- 16:17a bunch of stock brokers catalogs and a waste basket full of scribbled figures.
- 16:21Nothing more in the house. Missus Ripken and two cats says she hasn't seen
- 16:26husband who holds her in a week, and I don't think she cares if

- 18:40were you at Walter Rifkin's apartment tonight since I saw you? I mean no,
- 18:45sure, I'm positive you weren't in the neighborhood. I wasn't live in
- 18:48a mail of a neighborhood. One of my men says different, and time
- 18:52to ask for a pension. He's going going, look, mister Kean,
- 18:55you luck, mister cop. When I left here, I like with a
- 18:57Broadmoor balling. I never moved out of it until I came back here and
- 19:03test in case you don't get around like the Broadmoor is on Lancaster and East
- 19:07thirty nine. A couple of fat miles from East sixtieth and Chelsea. Now
- 19:11anything else then if they'll get award and arrest me. Uh, I'm very
- 19:15tired. Here we are, lieutenant, the next corners sixtieth and Chelsea Garage.
- 19:37You're making a lot of diples from an apartment house. Okay, back
- 19:40here here SiGe and grabbing out drive the apartment house first, and that should
- 19:44be a comment. Yeah, so then you huh, that's Edith to Roupa.
- 19:49Do you think she'd chip pop lifting? I should do, but I
- 19:55had the hotel desk refusal on our sideline. If she asked for one and
- 19:57I called in for a squad kind of pick her up, she won't be
- 20:00in the way. Well, let me see how this is a mail boxes
- 20:07are away. Then there's not a little boy. I hope you gentlemen,
- 20:11we're in the police department as mister water Ripkin have an apartment here? Yes,
- 20:15really cuttingly does three d oh yeah, I guess you don't want to
- 20:21be announced though. Huh why do you guess that? In any trouble,
- 20:23Oh, not exactly trouble. What happens, nothing much. It was just
- 20:27a girl. I think he called her Margaret, or maybe it was Margie.
- 20:30Anyhow, she ran out of here a little while ago, came down
- 20:33the steps and got my cab out time mister Ripkin was after her, but
- 20:38she got away. Ripken went back up. The win was this, how
- 20:41about ten minutes ago? You want to go up? I think we're better.
- 20:48Well yeah, but you fellas squat on plenty of change cases h at
- 20:55all hours. I mean good to you, right, thanks? Going back
- 21:03downstairs? Then yes, cover on me man right the police, mister Ripken,
- 21:15lieutenan guffin, Well I'll kill him. What brings you here? Mister
- 21:21Roker was very helpful, mister Rifken. She said she didn't want to be
- 21:25mixed up in a murder. Mister Ripken, May we come in? Why
- 21:29sure? I love? I'd love him to hide living a little straight ahead.
- 21:33Now this is far enough, mister Rifkin. Why the lieutenant means that
- 21:37pocket book on the table there? Oh that well, it's always do a
- 21:41lot of time, mister Rifken. The pocketbook isn't that important. We know
- 21:44what happened. The elevator boy told us about Margaret ken Lan running out of
- 21:48here. The police officer you sept at Miss ken Lan's apartment got a good
- 21:51look at you first. I'll look loll tell it. What I told you
- 21:53before was the note? All of it? You didn't tell us about Edith
- 21:56to Roka being your girlfriend. She fit in well, we we were working
- 22:03together. I wanted Larry Zimmerman's files, his contacts, names and numbers.
- 22:07I wanted the inside track that he had. I'd know what to do with
- 22:11it. Getting all that was Edith's job. What about Margaret Tinlan? Where
- 22:14did you bring her up here? Because I think she kills Immerman and whoever
- 22:17kills Zimmerman must have gotten the money that was supposed to be returned to me.
- 22:19Did you find it on her? No? No, she got away
- 22:22from me before I could search her. You've looked through a purse there,
- 22:26looked ten times. It's not there. What is their lieutenant convinced me,
- 22:32I've got the right party. What do you mean hand me the first man?
- 22:34I mean that I found a receipt in that potet. Look for a
- 22:37pair of earrings, a pair of top has ellings. What do you know
- 22:41about her? All I know is what I heard a cop say over at
- 22:44Zimmerman's place. But one Topa's earring was filed on the rug under the body.
- 22:48Right, Yeah, let's see what's immam? Yeah, compact lipstick wallet,
- 22:56back of my savers. Another lipstick and he received made out to miss
- 23:00Margaret kin line for one part Peggiri sawt face saw boy man may mistake,
- 23:08mister Rifkin, does Margaret Kinland know that you've seen this receipt? We low?
- 23:14I didn't go through a stuff until after she ran Verdon. Maybe she
- 23:17didn't run too far then, Yeah, her partner's place, Lloyd Spees monro
- 23:21aven or forty one eleven. Say if if you failed her and she still
- 23:23has my money, I'll get it, probably, mister Rifken, But exactly
- 23:27what you'll do with it for a while, I don't know. What do
- 23:30you love? The lieutenant means that you're under arrest for assaulting an officer,
- 23:34among other things. Oh, Ben, do you want to have a second
- 23:37look at any of this dinner? I don't think so? Or seats enough
- 23:40for me? Matt, I'm sorry, man, look at it is?
- 23:44What do you set again? Yeah? Read it carefully, man, Then
- 23:48take mister Rifken in William. I'll see it the morning. Rne up.
- 24:11What why lieutenant guests? I didn't expect to see her again tonight? We
- 24:15can thanks to speeds as Margaret here, I know she had well not snad
- 24:22I mean, do you care for as inter speed? Yes, we didn't.
- 24:27She was here, wasn't he? Oh? No? No? She
- 24:32Oh, well, what difference does it mean? Yes, she was here
- 24:34about twenty minutes ago she killed Larry, Lieutenant, she said that, Yes,
- 24:40that's what I meant to be. What you said was simon gentleman's apartment.
- 24:42She stopped trying to hide things. She admitted other thing. Wasn't it
- 24:48nice to hear? Jealousy was her motor an I'll take that drink now,
- 24:53mister Speeds. Jealous It was jealousy, Lieutenant, uh huh? And when
- 24:57she left, you give you any idea where she was heading? No,
- 25:02she didn't. Attendant, no place at all was what she said when I
- 25:04asked it. What are you looking for? A lieutenant? No place at
- 25:08all? Could be suicide, Speeds. I know, I know that she's
- 25:12a murderous lieutenant. I didn't try to stop her. Should I have?
- 25:18Could you have stoptor stopped her and turned her over to me? Could you've
- 25:25done that? Speece for of course I suppose. So why not they go?
- 25:30For one good reason? Your life Speeds, you see, I think
- 25:33you murdered Larry's a moment. Oh, no, no, no, no,
- 25:38it was Margaret. I told you that. Yes I know, but
- 25:41I don't believe you. I even think Margaret's still here someplace in this house.
- 25:45You haven't had time to take a no place at all. But was
- 25:48at They important? Don't they care? Sure? They don't sure? More
- 25:52than anything else, well than you know. I have a receipt for those
- 25:56hearings, a receipt without to Margaret. Is right, Come Margaret for a
- 26:00pair of top Fans earrings which she rent in for one of the models in
- 26:07tonight's fashion show. No doubt the fashion show, Speees that you ran because
- 26:11Margaret wasn't going and you were, so it was you who had the earrings,
- 26:15not Margaret, and you who dropped one of them at Larry's Emmerman again,
- 26:18not Margaret. Now where is she? Speees And I don't know she's
- 26:22here. I don't be room. Yes, side up, she's all right.
- 26:32I wasn't going to do anything until later. I had to kill Zimmerman.
- 26:37Why spies that you invest with him? Two was only two thousand dollars
- 26:41whatevers? Everything I hadn't the world. I lost my money. I just
- 26:45went out of my mind. Yes, and water Reskin's money, the twenty

- 30:02much the same as for males, except for some differences, of course,
- 30:07the use of matrons. Someone interesting story behind that in some parts of the

- 30:21tell you more about that when we get to her, was the first head
- 30:26of policewomen anywhere in the country, and one thing she tried to do was
- 30:33to get rid of the title of police matron, because the matrons actually earned
- 30:41less money than the male police officers and they had a worse pension. So
- 30:45her effort was, you abolished that role and everyone gets paid the same as
- 30:51a patrolman. And I've actually had the idea too of having the listeners because
- 30:56that lineup scripts the same. I've actually got it at Great Detectors Net.
