- 0:00Welcome back to the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show live at Bear Smokehouse Barbecue and Hartford
- 0:04Husky's wrapped up the first half of the season yesterday. They're not back at
- 0:08it till New Year's Eve in stores against Harvard three o'clock. National Television ESPN.
- 0:16Yeah, and I thought for a minute, well there's Bowl games.
- 0:18But wait a minute, it's a Sunday. Yeah, no bowl games.
- 0:21It's all NFL on Sunday. So nice, Jop, Are you getting an
- 0:24ESPN game against a good, good Harvard team? Well, I don't think
- 0:28I can take credit for it. I think Hockey East reached out to us
- 0:33and said would be interested in, you know, playing the game. They
- 0:38originally wanted us to play it at one o'clock, which I would have been
- 0:41fine with, but it was not fair to Harvard because I think they're playing
- 0:45Princeton the night before. So and Teddy's you know a friend I did not.
- 0:53I wasn't going to make him play that game one, but he agreed
- 0:55to play at three. He was happy with that. I'm going to play
- 0:58at three o'clock. So, because I think they are games at three or
- 1:00four o'clock on the day before okay, but yeah, that's great being able
- 1:06to be on ESPN's outstand Yeah for sure. What are the next few weeks
- 1:08look like? I know this upcoming week of the next week of exams,
- 1:11and what about the three weeks before you start half number two? What's it
- 1:15look like for the players and for the coaches as well? Yeah, well,
- 1:19I think for the players, they're still the finishing up school this week,
- 1:22this is our last full week of school, and you have finals next
- 1:26week, and then I think most of them will be going home, I
- 1:30hope, So, you know, I think it's good to get that break
- 1:33and recharge the batteries. I know it's good for coaches. We'll be doing
- 1:38a little bit more, you know, recruiting in this time. You know,
- 1:42all of us will be going out over the next couple of weeks,
- 1:46and you know then that we'll take a week off too, I think before
- 1:52Christmas, you know. Basically, I'll have the players come back. I
- 1:56think the twenty sixth, then we'll practice the twenty seventh. So from the
- 2:01you know, nineteenth, maybe I'm going out on the road. I think
- 2:05I get back to eighteenth, and uh, I'll take that week. I
- 2:08gotta get my wife something for Christmas. Everything will still be wait till the
- 2:13last minute, right, and the wife takes care of the kids, right,
- 2:16No, not necessarily. I bought my son at gift the other day.
- 2:20Good job. Yeah, that's something I thought he'd like. It's easy
- 2:23now online, you know, I get on Amazon account. Yeah. I
- 2:28already did part of my shopping in the Caymans for the missus. Go ahead
- 2:30at him. When you talk about players that are going home, so to
- 2:35internet, I mean, got the Canadian players, it's a little bit easy
- 2:38traveled. But for our Cinny going back to Russia, for Samu Finland,
- 2:42I mean, do you know kind of already like yeah, those two guys
- 2:45who have more ornerous travel, do you know if they're going to be going
- 2:50home. Yeah, Samu's definitely going home. I haven't talked to our Sinny
- 2:53yet about that last year. I know he didn't because traveling to Russia is
- 2:58a different story. So I'm glad you brought that up. That's gonna be
- 3:01a conversation we have with him tomorrow. I don't know what his plans are
- 3:05because sometimes he stayed here and gone to Florida as well, so I think
- 3:08he has some family in Florida. Oh good, he visits. So,
- 3:13Mike, do the prep schools have a big tournament around this time of your
- 3:15day to do? Yeah, they've started up, so they usually play on
- 3:20Wednesdays and Saturdays, but the tournaments start the fourteenth, fourteenth, fifteen,
- 3:27sixteenth, seventeenth. That weekend, there's a bunch of prep school tournaments and
- 3:30that's by design because they know that there's a gap in the college schedules,
- 3:35so coaches can make it. No, I don't think. I don't think
- 3:37that has anything to do with it. I think historically that they've just always
- 3:44that's weekend is the last weekend of school for them, and that's when they
- 3:49have their big prep school tournaments because they all leave to go home after those
- 3:52tournaments. All right, Well, you mentioned you're gonna go out and look
- 3:54at some players us HL versus BCHL. It seems like a ton of kids
- 4:00at the college level coming out of both those leagues. How different? How
- 4:02similar are those two leagues? Yeah, that's where I'm actually going. In
- 4:06three days, I can go see ten of our committed players. So I'm
- 4:12going to go out to h Dubuque and see a few of our players in
- 4:17that game. We've got a bunch of players on Sioux City. Then I'm
- 4:23going to go see Sue City plays Debuque, who have one player on Dubuque
- 4:26and three on Sioux City. So I can see four players in that game.
- 4:29And that's Iowa. Yeah, how do you get to flying to seedar
- 4:32Rapids? Then I'll fly into Vancouver the next day and we have let me
- 4:41see two on al Bernie and one on Langley, so I'll see three in
- 4:44that game. And then Nanaimo's playing Coquitlam and there's three game, three players
- 4:48in that game. So I'll get to see ten players in three days.
- 4:51So that's a pretty good trip. And do you make sure that they don't
- 4:55check each other in those games? Those those players say stay away from one
- 4:58another, stay out of that. I don't want no friendly fire. Yeah,
- 5:02Mike, tell me about Vancouver. I mean, I've heard a lot
- 5:05of great things about it. You've been there a ton of times. What's
- 5:09what's so special about that city? It's a beautiful city. First of all.
- 5:12I mean the mountains come right down into the ocean. Uh, it's
- 5:15just spectacular, spectacular, you know, just landscape. It really is beautiful.
- 5:24Part of the country, you know, in the in the winter,
- 5:28it's not usually as nice, just because sometimes you can get a lot of
- 5:33the rain and some gray you know clouds. But oh like Seattle, Okay,
- 5:38it's a little bit like Seattle. Yeah, but you know there's all
- 5:42other parts of the air, you know, springtime and especially the summer.
- 5:45It's it's beautiful. It's a lot of sunny days, and it's a it's
- 5:48a it's a really nice place. It's crowded though, too, Like it's
- 5:55it's it's a crowded. It's not an easy city to get around. It
- 6:00might be the only city I know where there's not a major interstate that runs
- 6:03into the city. It's like a it's like going on the Berlin Turnpike of
- 6:09the Silas Dean to get in, honest to God, to get into Vancouver,
- 6:13you know. So it takes you thirty five to forty five minutes to
- 6:16get in from the airport and you're only going eight to ten miles. It's
- 6:20wow. So's it's you know, they do have Highway one when you can't
- 6:25get on that, and that's fine when you're going out a little bit outside
- 6:29the city. But like I'm only going maybe fifteen miles from the airport to
- 6:33both games. I'm going to see and it's going to take me fifty to
- 6:36fifty minutes to an hour. Wow. So we're gonna be talking with a
- 6:44couple of guys coming up here. So Ryan Taddle is one of the guys
- 6:47that Bob talked with earlier today. What is something that has really impressed you
- 6:54about his play this year? Well, Ryan's really found an idea entity on
- 7:00this team. I just I got to give him a lot of credit because
- 7:03he was in and out of the lineup last year and even to start this
- 7:06year, he was a little bit in and out, but he really just
- 7:12focused on competing and winning his one on one battles and making I think when
- 7:18he was in and out of the lineup last year, it was because he'd
- 7:20have a you know, take a penalty unnecessary penalty, or he'd uh for
- 7:28three good plays, he'd have one turnover that was catastrophic, and he's eliminated
- 7:32that really from his game. He's eliminated that turnover. Not turnover is going
- 7:36to happen, but it's not. You know, every game he was good
- 7:41for a turnover, that's not happening anymore. He's really and he's pushed the
- 7:46pace of our team. You know, he's become a outstanding penalty killer and
- 7:50I love seeing that in players. I love seeing actually them struggle, you
- 7:56know, and find their way out of it, because you that's when I
- 7:59think you can get really good players. You know whyatt newpower was that for
- 8:01us. He was in and out of our lineup for two years, right,
- 8:05you know, when he worked through his struggles, he wound up being
- 8:07the defensive defenseman of the Year in Hockey East. Yeah, and a major
- 8:13you know, one of the better captains we've ever had here, as Gino
- 8:16said, figured out yep. Yeah. And it's so easy sometimes to just
- 8:22go somewhere else. It'll be easier somewhere else. And you know, I
- 8:24don't think he's done that, and Tristan too is it hasn't always we had
- 8:28to. You know, I sat him last year at Fenway, which I
- 8:31know wasn't easy for him, but you know, he handled it like a
- 8:33pro. And he's continued to just work, work and get better and better.
- 8:37And he's been an integral part of our team this year, no question
- 8:43about it. All Right. We will hear the interviews with mister Tattle and
- 8:45mister Fraser when we come back on the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show from dear Field
