- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Alright, we're doing this works out.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: It's like cool to it.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's fine.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: It's not it's not late.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: You're not like it's it's currently 3 30 in the morning.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Um it's not been crazy.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: No, this works out for me.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Like it's yeah, as long as it's not too early for you as well.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: That's the only thing.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: No, no, it's not bad.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm okay.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I've been I've been up working.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: I watched the movie this morning.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Oh uh, and that was that's commitment.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: That was oh my goodness.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: This move I I loved this movie growing up.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Loved it.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: So, you know, any to any excuse to watch it, I'm like, oh yeah.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I'll watch Last Action Hero.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you picked Last Action Hero.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Um, what's your history with it?
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, I saw it, I I believe I saw it in theaters, if I if I remember correctly.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Um, and I loved it.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: I thought it was so funny.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: I think I thought I got more of the jokes than you know what I mean.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Like I think I thought I understood the parody element of it.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I I I don't know.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: I used to uh the 555 joke in it like stuck out to me as a as a as a kid.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Um all of the like references to like that wasn't Stallone, that was you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Like that's great.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: I love all of that stuff.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Um and wanted it to happen to me.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Like, I wanted to be able to uh go into an action movie and hang out with Arnold Schwarzenegger on the TARP.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So yeah, wait, when what year did it come out?
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Uh then sometime in the 90s.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, not to age you.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: I'm just trying to work out the city.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: No, please age me, actually.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: It's totally fine.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Um okay, yeah, 93.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: So oh my god.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Is this pre Yeah, okay, same year as Jurassic Park.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Wow, for very formidable year for me.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Well, I'll tell you this.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Apparently it came out uh uh a week after Jurassic Park.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: A week after?
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Wow, what a year that was.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: That was the best year of my life, I think.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: But they people say that's why it bombed because it like because it came out a week after that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: It's sort of like it there's no way it can stand against something like that.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, like Jurassic Park is just it was it sort of changed all movies forever.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: So that is your favorite movie, is it?
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: It is, it's my absolute favorite movie of all time.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Um the two I hear you talk about the most are that and Hancock's.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Which is the you know, we don't know whether or not Hancock's good, you know.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know if hang we don't know yet, you know.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: We're trying to figure that out.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Still too it's still it's still too young.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it's too new.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: You know, not enough time, you know.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Let it let's see in like another 20 years, and we'll we'll know if it's if it's if it's any good, maybe by then.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: So how many times have you seen this, do you think?
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: I I mean it doesn't compare to the number of times I've seen like m my favorite movies, but um yeah, I've maybe seen this I don't know, four times probably four, four or five.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I which I understand is a lot.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Like people don't often I only just realized that returning to a movie is a weird thing.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't know yeah, I didn't know that that I don't see that as a bad thing.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: People always say that to me.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: They're like, why would you rewatch something?
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I don't like it.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Of course I'm gonna re-watch it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: But four to me is not a lot of times to re-watch something.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Like four is like, oh yeah, like four times.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Like I've seen a movie.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Well, I had Frank Garcia Hale on here uh recently, and he'd he's seen uh Wet Hot American Summer over a hundred times, he estimated.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean that I mean, and for for it to be and he probably loves that movie, right?
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, if you love a movie, you're gonna see it forever.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Why like why not ri watch it again and again?
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: I know new movies keep coming out, but that movie's still really good.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: So uh I guess you first came across it because just it just came out and you went to see it.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean you're a big Arnie fan at the time.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: I was a f uh, yeah.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I I don't think I had seen the first Terminator.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: I think like my introduction to him had to be like Terminator 2.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Um and but like yeah, like like I had loved him in that.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know when I gotta see what the timeline of movies I had seen him in.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Because I knew him as Arnold Schwarzenegger when I like I knew who he was.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Like twins, maybe the jokes, yeah.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: It's like was twins out?
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what I'm looking up.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Like, was was kindergarten what not kindergarten cop was um oh no, that's the one that he's in.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Is kindergarten cop was that out?
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Like like was which was Jingle all the way out?
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know yet.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: No, no, Jingle all the way was later because I saw that.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, it was much later.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, so let's see.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, so by night, yeah, Twins was already out, total recall, kindergarten cop, uh, Terminator 2.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so like I I was like, you know, like holy shit, Arnold Schwarzenegger comes out of the movie theater?
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Like it comes out of the I was That's the thing, it's a great premise.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a really good premise.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Don't say that like that means the movie's bad into the sc goes into the screen and he becomes part of an action movie.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: And like I guess like your way when you were that age, it's it's like the height of like it's exactly what you want to see.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: And and you know, like and the him being smarter than him, like the the the the fact that like he comes in and he has more knowledge than him, it's like it's very much geared at like a child, like at a boy that age.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Like a boy that kid's age, that's who this movie is for.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: It's not for it's not for anyone else.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: That's the thing, it's like I so I'd only seen it for the first time uh like two days ago.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, four days I'd never seen it before.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Okay, um and but I I that I just remember from like childhood that poster being like so memorable.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: It's just the the the poster with Arnie and everything around there.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I I remember that from childhood.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: I'd never I just I don't know why I never watched it.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, you know, it I saw it because it was an event, like it was an event for me.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh, that's an art of sports.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: It was probably like to my mom or whoever ended up taking me, like, oh, this is a movie I can take him to.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: You know, like it's this is a movie, like I didn't see there's no way, you know, at four years old I saw Total Recall in the theater or anything like that, you know, like or whatever, but like, oh I really hope not.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Can't imagine my mom was like, I guess I'm taking him to Total Recall.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: This four-year-old child.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was four when Jurassic Park came out, and I wasn't allowed to watch that.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was uh seven, I want to say, and I and like I could I can't even because that feels young to me, I can't even imagine someone being too young to have seen Jurassic Park.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Like, like, oh, like wasn't everyone allowed to see that?
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Like, couldn't couldn't you just all any age, you know?
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: I know toddler, three, you know, like every age should have been able to go see that.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, the movie itself, it's just it's a kid who gets given a ticket at a movie theatre, like a rundown uh Times Square movie theatre.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: So this is like pre-Disney Times Square.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: This is like real rundown Times Square.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: And it's um he gets given a ticket that Houdini had given to the uh projectionist as a kid.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: And then he they tears the ticket off, ends up in an uh Arnold Schwarzenegger movie called uh what is it called?
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Jack Slater.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Jack Slater 4 is the one that he goes into.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: And it's and it's every stereotype of an action movie, of an Arnie action movie specifically, that you could think of.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: So it opens and there's like a there's all police helicopters, uh, there it's Christmas, there's a shootout, uh Tina Turner is the mayor for some reason.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: It's it's great that the chief is like the chief is saying every cliche what a day to what a day to spin Christmas.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Jack, don't you go in there, Jack?
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: We got wait for the real negotiator, and he's like I loved it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: That was so it was so dumb, and I I I love that I love any kind of like satire or spoof of a movie.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: I'm a big fan of those, so I was fully on board.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: His entrance is he's he's stepping on the hoods of all the cop car, like he's he's walking, effortlessly walking from car to car on the hood, but walking like lengthwise across the car, so like he's able to step from the top of one car all the way to the top of the other car somehow.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: But like it's uh one thing I wrote down is the CGI is so bad.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: The CGI is terrible in this movie, but it's it's but see, but that's back when you know.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously Jurassic Park came out the week before, so so it's like what do you hold it up?
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: What can you hold it?
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Even total recall.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Right, even total recall is better than but I think that's part of the charm, that's like part of the appeal.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: It's like you can every time you very clearly see a stunt actor in the in the movie, it's like it's like, yeah, it's supposed to look that way.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: It's supposed to be I guess I'm okay with it when it's in the movie itself, but when it's in the real world, then there's then I'm like, no, no, it's supposed to be real.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: No, it's okay, it's okay, because it's sort of it's an extension, you know, it's an extension of the on-screen life happening in the real.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I I buy it.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: Of course you do, you're a seven.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, so Arnie is uh in the movie, and then so this kid goes into the movie and it's Jack Slater 4.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Um he finds and then because he goes into it because he knows T he finds TNT coming flying out the screen, and that's when he first Right, and he gets and he basically gets blown into like he's running forward and gets blown into it to it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: Like he wasn't trying he he his thought process wasn't let me go into this movie.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: He's like, let me run away from this explosion that throws him into the backseat of Jack Slater's car.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: And without missing a beat, Jack's just like, Who are you?
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Alright, whatever, get down.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: You are now my partner.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Like we are going everywhere.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna question it.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: And that's when you get like a ton of coke product placement.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Which I'm okay with because you see the movie, it's it's dumb, it's funny.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: The Coke product product placement, the Baskin Robbins, uh, very clear, like 31 flip, like you see, there's like so much ice cream, and then suddenly they're just like Baskin Robbins, and you're like, A guy gets hit in the back of the head with an ice cream cone, and they're like, Yeah, Baskin Robinson.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: He tells him like when when he's when he's like talking about being with him, he's like, uh, you're gonna you're too young for this, you've got to go through all the all the proper things.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: You'll go through acne, shaving, premature ejaculation.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: And your first divorce.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: And your first divorce.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: What a thing to tell a t like a little kid.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it's like, what are the things in act like what's the thing an action star remembers about growing up?
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: And like it's like not uh you're gonna remember your first cigarette burn.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Like it's like it's all the like the nonsense stuff of life.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And then they uh what is it they have?
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: What happens?
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, there's an animated cat.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: There's a fucking animated cat in this movie.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: Voiced by Danny DeVito, which which I didn't realize until it came round again.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: I don't think I noticed it as a kid at all.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't I don't think I realized it until adulthood, until maybe this watch of it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: I was like, holy shit, that's Danny DeVito.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I didn't think I was because initially when I uh was starting to watch the movie, I looked up the cast and everything.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Must have missed Danny DeVito completely.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: I got like focused on all the cameos that were gonna be in it, but I guess.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: And then any kind of thing.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, he probably was credited way later, also.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so there's like a joke about Stallone being in Terminator in this movie, which is just very funny to me.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know what that was, but it works.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: That's that's my level of humor.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Just because if it wasn't Arnold, it would have been Stallone.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: There was like it wasn't gonna be um Jean-Claude Van Damme who is in this movie.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Yes, you know, like if it's not because he has his own, uh you know, I think he's like he's Universal Soldier or whatever, you know.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it would have definitely been Stallone.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: But I think like also it's Stallone on top of it because they like they re- this is Planet Hollywood time and they reference it in the movie.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Like so that's like another thing that they were like, oh let's get Stallone in it to get like that connection there.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: But they uh yeah, oh, so there's uh Whitney who is uh what's her name?
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: It's Bridget Yes Um Whitney is played.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Bridget Sampras.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: I can't remember her actual name.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I think she goes by oh no, she does.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Bri Brid Whitney plays Meredith.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: She's credited as Bridget Wilson in the movie.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: Bridget Wilson, yes.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: That's the one.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: Oh no, no, no, sorry, you're looking at a different person.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: No, Whitney, right?
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Bridget Whitney, his daughter.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Oh right, alright.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Bridget Wilson.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: But her but her, well, because what was confusing to me um as a kid watching it was it was like, oh, if he if he's Arnold Schwarzenegger playing Oh right, then like, oh, did they do something where it's like Whitney who plays Bridget who plays Meredith who plays Whitney.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Like what are the levels of inception that they're that they're doing?
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's there's so many layers to this movie.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Because F.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Murray Abraham, was he did he play F.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Murray Abraham?
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: Like it's like he did because they referen they reference that because they they say uh it's uh thing from uh oh they reference his character from uh the uh Mozart thing.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Amadeus, yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: And it's like what are the they could have done that for everybody, but instead they were like, no, like he's these two.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: He's someone.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Uh Bridge is playing Meredith, who's playing like Meredith.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: But the the the weirdest thing is like they go to they go to his house, she opens the door, immediately kisses Danny full on the lips.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: The little kid.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but at the time she would have been what?
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: She would have been like in college.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: In college, yeah, college age.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: A little kid on the mouth, it's fine.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: She's college aged.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be your quote.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's when I go down, they're gonna be like, well, he's the one who said it was fine.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: But there's uh yeah, they find there's a son who died, uh, so it's only the daughter left.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Right, and I think that I think the son is like the kids hit the kid's age, right?
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: And I misremembered this.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: Uh like I thought that we saw the kid die in that opening scene.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Like, I thought we saw him get pulled in that opening scene, and that it's something that like I ended up being like, Oh, that's a cool thing that they did.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: Like, the fact that they left that out, but I don't understand the point of not showing us that that's how that ends in that moment.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Like, what like it doesn't matter.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what is the point of covering it up just to show it later?
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: But for us to be like, we don't this doesn't mean anything.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: This it's a character in a movie, it me doesn't mean anything.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: That's true as well.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a character in another movie, it doesn't matter at all.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: It does like we we see flashbacks, but after Danny has gone into the movie, so then where is Danny when we see the flashbacks?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Like, if if we're in the movie from Danny's POV, why do we cut to a flashback?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: So you just like uh it just doesn't make I don't get the rendering of that.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Like, why does it happen that way?
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: I guess it's like what I have I do have issues with this movie, and it's how dare you! The movie's perfect.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: This movie's perfect.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: It's movie seen four times and not since childhood.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Whatever, it's perfect.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, so the the this is when the villain showed up, and it's played he's played by Tywin Lannister from Game of Thrones.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and honestly, this was my no well I know he's in um this actor's in Golden Child, but I don't think I had seen Golden Child until after I had seen this.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: So this movie was my introduction to him, and every time I see him, he's terrifying.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Like oh yeah, he's always terrifying.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Always no, there are some movies.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, hold on, I gotta see I gotta pull up because there are some movies that he's in where it's like, oh no, he's like supposed to be like a a charming, like I'll tell you one that he's not, it's Ali G in the house.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, right.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: No, not not Ally G in the house.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: What's the I just saw him in something though, where he's like, Oh, in Godzilla King of Monsters, he's like, he's you think he's a villain, and then he's like not the villain.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Like they the purpose is like for you to be like, oh, he's you they cast him because they know that when you look at him, he looks evil.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: You know, and then by the by the middle of it, you're like, no, this guy's like he's we're supposed to be rooting for him.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: There was there was someone that was supposed to be cast.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, it was Alan Rickman was supposed to be the villain.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Perfect.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: And he got uh but he asked for too much money, and that's why this guy got cast.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Well, of course, though, because like it's like you can't cast Alan Rickman in this part unless you give him like unless you give him an exorbitant amount of money because he's already done the like for him to lampoon it, he has to at least get exactly what Arnold's getting, which you which you know is a ton, you know, but they probably tried to lowball him.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: They you know they definitely lowball him.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: They were like, no, we'll give you a couple hundred thousand.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: And it's like, how dare you?
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: But he wasn't.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Wait, Golden Child was before this then.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: So I'm trying to work out how to do that.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I want to say how yes.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: I think that Golden Child was before this because it's an editor.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to work out how big he was at the time.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: I don't think he was that big.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: So I think that's why.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Exactly exactly.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: It's like that they can they're like, okay, fine, we can get him.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: We'll get Charles Dance.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: We can't.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: That's his name, Charles Dance.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 86.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: So several years before this.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: But I hadn't seen it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: But yeah, he's the so he's the villain in this, and he's just He's a perfect villain for this, though.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: I think he's really good in it.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Because he also sort of effortlessly plays this part.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Like, like when he goes to the real world, you sort of still believe him as like a Yeah, 100%.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Like he's not as cartoony of a character.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Which I also think though is part of the problem.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Not to I haven't said anything bad about the movie yet, but I think that's part part of the problem with the movie is like sort of like it's supposed to be for kids, but some of the like some of the actual action movie sequences are like I had visceral memories of like when his his uncle dies or whatever that character was, you know, like all of those things like were heavy to me.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: It was like it was a little too much for me to see.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Very heavy.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: You know, and like and he was like kind of like he was such a big he would like just shoot he when he got to the real world, just shoot people in cold blood.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: And like it's a tough balance when you're like supposed to be in this real otherwise hokey movie.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: I think there's like there's like that one scene that's really dark where um uh the Danny goes to leave the apartment and he opens the door, closes it, opens it again, and then that guy breaks in.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: And that's really dark.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Especially because you know that he just got beat up in the real world, sort of in a similar way.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: And that didn't hit me before until now.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Like, he opened the door and there was a guy there.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: You know, like it was like the same thing happened to him, but now in this action movie scenario.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's very dark.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: And then like, um yeah, so this is where Arnie shows up and he like um he saves, he does all the saving stuff, uh, he chases after, he catches the the red eye.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, he says it's like I'm gonna catch you've got to catch the red eye or something just to make a pun on.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: You must the guy's got the red eye glass eye.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: It's got multiple glass eyes that he switches in and out.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Uh one of them happens to be a bomb at a later point.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Um then there's a there's like a spoof of E.T.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: where the Danny rides a bike through the air.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: It doesn't context.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: There's no context for it.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: This movie is not a it's an action movie, so they could have found something to parody.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: Like some action movie to parody, but instead they were like, no, it'll be E.T.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: The bike's gonna fly for no reason.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: And never referenced again.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: It's just that is what it is.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, then Artie gets fired, of course, because because he because he's done the bad job.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: So he gets fired by the This was great.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: One of the I wrote this down.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: One of the one of the things the chief says while he's yelling at him is for no reason at all, all male production of Diary of Anne Frank.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: That's just one of course you did.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: And the line right after it is Arnold leans over to um to Danny and says, Did you catch any of that?
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: And I never caught any of it, but I put I put captions on and he goes, I gotta all male production of Diary of Ant Frank.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: And then and then and then actual gibberish, but for some reason very clearly says that.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: What do you reckon they just say to him, say what you want?
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Right, that wasn't in the script.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: There was nothing was scripted.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: He just said gibberish and then all male production.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: Just what's the context?
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Like why uh that's the thing with everything in this.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: What is the context for everything that's happening?
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: He goes back to his yeah, he goes back to his apartment and he like opens the closet and he's got the same clothes.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is just the same clothes, he has like 12 pistols.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: There's a guy hanging in there's a guy in the closet before he gets in there.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: He has to just shoot the closet.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: How'd you know there was a guy in there?
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: There's always a guy in there.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: There's always a guy in there.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, and this is when I found out about the character of Fart.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Was that the character's name?
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: The character's called Fart.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: As and they put a bomb in his gut.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Fart is the bomb.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: And they say Fart is gonna pass gas one last time.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Wait, and this this extended action sequence stayed in my mind since childhood.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Like, I thought, as a kid, this is me as a kid.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: I thought it was so cool that he was in that elevator, he falls out of the elevator, he hangs on.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: I the image of him holding the the beam and then letting it go, and then having the beam flip in the air and then fall down, that has been imprinted in my brain since '93.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: What did you think?
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I thought it was hey, still cool.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Don't do this to me.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: It was still cool.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: And then he falls and and lands on the oh, it was great.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: In the tar pit.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: It was great.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: And then when it blews.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: And then he says it's silent but deadly.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah No.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: But it was but it's it's purposefully lame, and it and it all pays off.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: It all pays off later, which I don't want to skip ahead, but it all pays off late.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: All of these cheesy all of these cheesy one-liners pay off.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: They do.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: So like Benedict uh Benedict the villain, he goes and kills uh Vivaldi, who is the other guy.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Um Vivaldi is uh Anthony Quinn, I think.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see, I have it here.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: It's like a massive, massive star from the like the 50s.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: It is a nothing role for him.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: Well, but you know, like, it's sort of like you just do it.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: It's like I have a I have a day.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: I can I can work a day on last action.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's definitely a day roll.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like I'll do I'll do it.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: You know, he ch he changed costumes once, right?
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I mean like it's like I bet you got paid more than Charles Dance as well.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: That's very likely.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Wait, he he's gone.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: He's out of the film anyway.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: He's like, he doesn't really do anything in this.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Um then there's and then Arnie drives a monster truck into the house.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: Straight into the house, which is great.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Perfectly lands directly behind him.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Like per Yeah, of course.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Also, what was the plot of this movie going to be?
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Because the boy clearly is throwing all kinds of wrenches in this game.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Like, what was the I I think this every time I watch the movie, and I know it doesn't matter, but what was the movie supposed to be?
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: I didn't even think about that.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: Cause he's because it they because they also do this thing where because there's no way the cartoon cat is a part of the Jack Slater.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: There's no way like that cartoon cat is like from another move, like has his own series of movies.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: But why is he in the Jack Slater universe?
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: It doesn't make like the the actual logic of like what's a movie and like what is this what is this action hero universe?
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Like what it doesn't actually make sense and they never they never try to make sense.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: But it has to it has to be part the thing is it has to be part of the Jack Slater universe because he's in the police uh station.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: And he knows Jack, like very they know each other.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: So what are these movies in the in the real world?
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: What are these movies?
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: Right, because like if in the same world where the stakes are super high and his and his kid is pulled off a building, in that world, there isn't a cartoon cat.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: You know what I'm saying?
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: Like they're just there isn't a cartoon cat.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: There aren't like latex clad women, you know, like head-to-toe bodysuit.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: They they are not in this world.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: They're in a different, they're in another movie, but for whatever reason, the the police station was the like it felt like the police station was like, oh, that's where the crossover happens.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, because there's also like it's like a Hasidic Jewish person that's like just as wonderfully as a partner.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: And it's like it's like you can you can look at the at the background and see like, oh, these are the premises to all the other these are all those other movies.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, right?
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Like that's clearly what they were trying to do.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: It's it's such a weird It's also I feel like it's just them cashing in on uh it's like a reverse uh Roger Rabbit or something.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: Right, right, exactly.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: It's just that time period where they're like, oh let's get a cartoon in it and let's show we can mix them.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: But they Yeah, this is when but this this this is the point where they uh uh what's his name?
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Uh Benedice goes into the real world.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Yes, and the and they play the the he happens to be watching the Twilight Zone when that happens, and we hear the Twilight Zone theme for no reason.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Um this scared me to no end though as a kid.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: I can imagine, yeah.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: It seems a lot darker there.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: That's the point where it like it really shifts.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because like him him come going out into the real world, him like we see him circling Dracula and like other other um other horror movies, and it's like even though I still had this feeling watching it again.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I know they bring out the the slayer character, rip the Ripper character, and death comes out later.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: But in but in my mind, and in in my memory, even on this watch, I was like, right, and doesn't he get out like the wolf man and you know like my thought was that like he got all of those people out.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, that would have been really good if they'd done that.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I but right because they sort of they hint at it so much, but then but then they don't they end up not doing it.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: But I guess that's that's one of my issues with the movie that is that they hint at a lot of stuff and it never quite reaches the potential that it could.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: That's my issue with it.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: It's just like it's such a good premise for something.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: And they just never quite make it there.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: It not not doing well, cause it because I didn't I didn't read this as as a setup for a sequel when I when I first saw it, but on this rewatch, when when the Ripper says I'll be back as he dies, and then and then of course Arnold has another one-liner after that of like no you won't or whatever, or um, like that actually the way that they that they push in on him when he says I'll be back, I think is like a yeah, he'll be fighting him again in the sequel if this movie does well, you know, and it ended up not doing well, but right?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the ripper's a good character though.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: I like the ripper.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, very frightening.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Very so frightening, yeah.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Even now, like even watching him now, he was so creepy.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: He reminded me of something that like I was trying to place him for the longest time, and I don't think I could like he looked so familiar.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: But like that, not like when he was in the in the Ripper makeup, yeah.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and but when when they cut to him at the premiere and he was like the real person that I didn't recognize him.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: He does have that he had that forehead though.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: And I mean, and of course, Tom Noonan is a I mean he's he's you know he's in everything.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: Is he?
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: He's literally in he's in everything.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: He's Frankenstein.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: That's probably why I recognize it.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Have you seen the Monster Squad or No Um Because he's he's Frankenstein's monster in that, and that would make sense as to why the makeup you know what I mean?
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: As to why the makeup would No, I haven't seen that though.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: I've probably just seen him in other things and just and for some reason remind Unless he's on the poster and that's what I remember.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: But yeah, they're in the real world.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Uh they go straight through the movie screen.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Um and they chase they chase after uh um Benedict.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And all of the stuff all of the stuff happens, you know.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: He's like he's like, you know, you can't shoot, he's like, here's another explosion for your movie, and it's like, no, you're not gonna be able to you're not gonna be able to blow him up this time, you know.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Like you're it's not gonna work out for you.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: Um he plays chicken and gets and gets hurt and yes great.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: All of I love all of this.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Well, I the one thing that I I love and it's also like terrifying, is when uh Benedict just goes and like starts shooting someone, he just kills them, and he goes and he just like screams out, he's like, I've just shot somebody, I did it on purpose.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: I want to confess, and like nobody comes, yeah, they're just standing around watching him.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: The way the movie shoots itself in the foot to use a bad pun there, but the way that the movie shoots itself in the foot is that they it they they button that scene with be quiet, like in a very like movie New York way, and instead of it being like that, just it would take a long time for the cops to come, you know.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: People might not come out to check, people might not, but but I've just shot someone, and I want to confess, would not be met with be quiet, you know.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Hey, shut up down there, you know, like a cartoon character suddenly responds.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: But I also think like that was the New York perception at the time.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Exactly, but that's what I mean.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Like that's the that's the like for it to not be what happens in an action movie, I fully get it.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: The response would be super sl slow.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: Maybe no one's gonna you know, but like immediately after he shoots someone, a cab just casually drives by.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: It's like it's just very like movie New York, yeah, instead of like, you know, they could have they could have grounded it more.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: But then yeah, so um Arnie discovers classical music at this point from his from uh uh what is his name?
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Kids.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: From Mozart, it's Mozart from his from his mother, yeah.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: His mother plays the um and this is great too because he's he's like sex attention.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: I've never talked to a woman before.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: That that line didn't hit me until watching it now as an adult.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: Like I I appreciate this this the way this movie showed what like how women are portrayed in action movies.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: You know, like the car breaks, but you know, bursts into a room that just happens to be with a bunch of like women in lingerie, you know, like like like and it's very much played for like for the laugh of that for the you know um completely.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Um but then like you know, then he's he has this line where he's like, I've never talked to a woman.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: It's like, yeah, he's never like not even then you start to go, not even the wife in the world of this movie did he ever have a real conversation.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Not even his daughter, right?
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Not his of course not.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: He's never talked to her.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: She did she didn't exist before this movie.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: This is Jack Slater 4.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: There was never a daughter.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: She's she didn't exist before, and now they're like, hey, now with you with an even hotter child, you know, like that's sort of but that's what it's what it is, it really is.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: But yeah, like Arnie walks on all the cabs in this one as well, which is great.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in the real world, yeah.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: But he slips and he falls and he gets hit, and he like like he tries to do all that stuff, but he can't do it nearly as well.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: And then okay, so this is the other issue, too.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Of like then it sort of kind of ends on this thing of like, you have to believe in me.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Like, he needs to believe in him in order for it to like you know what I mean.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: I I yeah, I didn't quite get that, like because he could just believing in him, he could do everything that he could do in the movie in the real world, and it's like, well, no, right?
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Like he should he should actually fail, like he shouldn't be able to to succeed.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: He should have dropped Dan Danny.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Should have dropped, you know what I mean?
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: And Danny should have learned the harsh reality of like the I don't know, there was something convoluted about the this whole ending of like death coming out and like believe in believe in me.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: The death thing was really weird.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like what because then because then death was like Death had real world people on his list, like yeah, only real world people, only real world people.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: He literally kills someone, like he touches the guy, like it's that guy's time, but according to the logic of this, like you're not on my list, you die at grandpa, right?
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Like it is that guy's time, but also you're a fictional character from a 50 Swedish movie, right?
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: Sir Ian McKellen, though.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: It was Sir Ian McKellen, which was Yes, I was gonna say, did you realize as a kid at all?
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: It never occurred to me that it was him.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: I don't think I knew who he was at that time.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, why would you at that age?
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: Um, right.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: But a main like I was super, especially after because it comes in a scene where after we had seen all those cameos, like we had seen a million cameos, yeah, and then it's like, oh, and Sur Ian McKellen's in this, but it's but but I guess that wouldn't have been like my that wasn't supposed to be the reaction of the kids watching it, like of course not.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: But you also he has like one line in this, yeah, yeah.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: He's just wandering around for like 10 minutes.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Uh it's it's strange, I don't know what he's doing.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: But the like the other cameos have got Little Richard, yes, Maria Shriver, obviously, uh James Belushi, Chevy Chase, Damon Wayans, MC Hammer.
- 42:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: MC Hammer, who has a lot.
- 42:58SPEAKER_01: It's who they gave lines to and who didn't.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Like Damon Wayans says nothing.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: That's wild.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: MC Hammer, though.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: What about the soundtrack?
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: That's how big MC Hammer was.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: MC Hammer was so big he needed to be the guy saying, what about the soundtrack though?
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: How is this also?
- 43:18SPEAKER_02: This is like a few years beyond MC Hammer.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: I feel like this is this feels dated.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: No, I think this was because let's see, when did when was the Adams Family movie?
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: When he did the when he did the music for that, that was like the last time.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Oh no, Adams Family was before this.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Never mind.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: This this may have been past this time.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: That felt like the height of MC Hammer to me.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: Like 90 91, 92.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: It's so like this movie coming out in 913.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Like, oh we don't like him anymore.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of people like James Belushi and Chevy Chase also kind of feel like
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: No, not in the nine, not in the nineties, though.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Not in the early nineties.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: For those two.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: I was already wrong about MC hours.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: In my memory, everyone was always huge, and then they weren't.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: You know, and then it dropped off.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:21SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't know what little Richard's doing in this.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, he wouldn't miss it for the world, he said.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: That's what he was doing.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: He was he said he loved it.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: He loved it.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: That's what he was doing.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: That's what Little Richard was doing in the.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: Jim Bel James Bellucci gets the just like gets the uh misogynistic.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Of course he does.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Of course he does.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: It was it was like the perfect line for him.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Jeremy Chase does the Pratt fall.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just and then Damon Wayans is just there.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: He says, no, he's literally just there.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: I think he had a hat on that said Damon.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: Did his hats say Damon?
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: That sounds like Damon Wayans.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: He's like, okay, I can only do this if I can promote my name.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: I can only do it.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: Unless his show Damon had come out at that point and he was actually trying to promote that show.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: Like he was like, I can only do it if I can wear a hat for my show.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: When did that show come out?
- 45:25SPEAKER_01: Or a studio show.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: No, it didn't come out for.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: We should make a show called Damon.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: The show was the hat was pitching the show.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that show didn't come out for like five years after that.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: I didn't even know what Damon is.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: He had a show for like it was it lasted a season where he was a cop and he would he as a cop he would like play all of his characters, like go undercover, like as all of his like in living color, broad, like it wasn't like he was smoothly going in and out of these scenarios.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: It was like being like, come on man, what you doing, man?
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Like you're like, who is this?
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: Who's this person?
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: This is a cartoon character you're playing.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: And you say it only lasted one season?
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: Uh on only one if you can believe it, only one season.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: He's yeah, strange person.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: To say the least.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, this is where so back into the movie theater, they they're having the premiere of Jack Slater 4.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: All these character all these like people have cameos in it.
- 46:46SPEAKER_02: Um the f uh Jack Slater shows up and Arnie shows up as well.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: And so this is where you see both of them at the same time.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Um Jack tries to stop uh the uh the Reaper, and that's when he that's when Arnie stops him.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: And he starts trying to pitch him about being his like body body double and getting like work.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: He's like, you're one of the best celebrity look-alikes I've ever seen.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Also, okay, not to fully derail this again, but my goodness, the guy that wrote the story the guy that co-wrote the story for this went on to write, well, Inspector Gadget, but Behind Enemy Lines, the story for X2, uh, Electra, uh, X-Men the Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk, Avengers.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: He wrote the story to Avengers.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: He wrote up until Avengers, you we're not selling it.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: No, but I'm saying, well, okay, alright, fine.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: Those movies all were trash.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: But the fact that, like, the fact that he still like he his introduction to the scene as a writer is the story for this movie that's like a meta movie about action movies, and then he went on to write actual action movies.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: That's like wild to me.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: Maybe he wrote the the the movie side of it and then not the real one.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: Right, yeah.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Or like one of the other way around.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously he didn't.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: But the story to Avengers?
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: The story to Avengers?
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: That's so crazy to me.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: That's huge.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: Is that's one of the other one of the other writers is Shane Black.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, of this one.
- 48:48unknown: Yeah.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: Of last section here.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Well, that's I mean, of course.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, of course, perfect.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Did he do and he wrote he co-wrote the actual script, right?
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: I accept all of this.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: You need Shane Black to go in and be like, this is a hell of a you know, like, oh, what a Christmas this is.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say he wrote the Christmas line.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: He wrote all the one-liners.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: He probably did.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: I I I bet he did.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he has to be.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: And then that's why Damon Wains is in it as well.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, no, of course.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: Alright, who who who wrote it?
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, alright, I'll do it.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: I'll go.
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: But they uh yeah, so like they this is the thing you're talking about where Danny starts hanging and this is your like the scene you love.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, honestly, it just is like, how dare you do this?
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Like, he can't catch him.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: He's he's he's not this like they made it impossible.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: Like, it's not that he caught him just as he was about to go over.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: I would buy something like that, right?
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: Like they're still on the same maybe, right?
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: They're still on the same platform.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, he didn't go over.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: He he he he got there just in time.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: Oh good.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: But this is like he's he has one foot.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: Arnold has one foot on the thing he's standing on.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: His other foot is so slippery.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: It's raining.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: The rain is coming down, he's holding with one hand and is like, I will catch a hundred and ten-pound boy, like however, I'll catch you.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: You're slippery as what you're and he does it, and it makes me he's so far away from it.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Because he flings him onto the room.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: He not only he grabs him and then in one motion flings him onto the roof, and then he says, This is probably one of the worst this this hero things has its limits.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Oh it's yeah.
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: And that's the real world.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: But then uh Jack gets uh shot.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: Which I'm not against this.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: I'm not against him getting shot, right?
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: No, I'm fine with that.
- 51:18SPEAKER_01: Like, that's okay.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: But death.
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: What you think he Death they should have What do you mean though?
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: Oh death coming along.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Like Yeah, like he should have just he like he gets shot.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: For some reason we have the boy hold up everyone in hold up the EMTs.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: And then drive the ambulance.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: And then he drives the ambulance.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Which again, I I get it, right?
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Because he's like, I've been watching you drive, and like, and now this is what I've learned from you, right?
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Like it's supposed to be that.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: They're just the movie ended 15 times.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: There were like 15 endings to do it.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Then Ian McKenna shows up, says it's not his time, uh knows things about the real world.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: You're gonna die.
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: He's like, I'm just curious.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: What are you talking about?
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: And then does that mean that he's not gonna die?
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: He wasn't he was never going to die.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: Like he's not gonna die in the real world either?
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Like Yeah, that's what it sounds like.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: What?
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: But he tells him to but it's all set up for death to tell him to check the other side of the ticket.
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: Right, yeah, yeah.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Which so he goes back, then Jack mails Jack's able to go back.
- 52:45SPEAKER_02: Um he says, like, you're the comment relief, I'm the hero.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: And then and then and then he's uh Oh yeah.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: Then the uh the guy in the movie theater says to to uh Oh, I keep forgetting his name.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Danny.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: He keeps saying he says to Danny, like, oh keep the ticket, it's yours.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: I think the magic was yours as well.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which it like it this wasn't a part of it.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Like it just it just wasn't like whose magic is it?
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: And where like no, Houdini imbued this with magic.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: Like that's yeah, that's what happened.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: So the magic is everybody's so like like the last time we saw this character, he was like, I can't wait to go see Gone with the Wind, and I can't wait to like he'd like he like rattles off all these things he wants to do, and then he just decides not to.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, while also all of the movie characters have used the ticket, so obviously it works on other people.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: Like at least four other movie theater characters have used this ticket, and he's like, Nope, no one else.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: The magic is yours, and then for some reason Arnie drives off into the sunset and like puts his arm up, like yeah, yeah.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: And then that's the end of the movie because because that's the the end question mark, really.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: Like what's gonna happen for before I didn't mean that as a pun.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: I didn't mean it as a reference and it came up.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: There it is.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Uh Arnie.
- 54:31SPEAKER_02: So what is it that you uh love about the movie itself?
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I really do think I love all of the like I referential humor is like my favorite.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: Like references to things is I just really love that.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: And like this maybe even is was my introduction to stuff like that.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: Like I may not have ever Oh wow, you know what I mean?
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, I know it's unfortunate that this was that, but you know, like what would I have seen before this, you know, that would have been anything like that.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: No, I think like this was my introduction to like, you know, all those things that are like this that you love?
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Well, this is us making fun of it, you know.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: Um and so I don't know.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: Like, I I think that that stuff's fun.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: I think that the like the boy going on on an adventure of it is fun.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: He gets he gets kissed by the hot college chick.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: No, so bring it up.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: I know it's like, why did I I could have let that go, but I didn't need to say it again, but I did um you know, like all of that stuff.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: I I just it you know is is I think that that is fun for all of its flaws, because it really does have many.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: I couldn't when you told me that this had a 40%, I was like, how?
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: I I couldn't I couldn't believe it.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: But then now this has 36.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, it has 30, yeah, uh less than 40 percent.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, less than 40, yeah, yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: Um like I was like, how, no way, that movie's great.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: It's I love this movie, and like now it's like, oh no, there's a lot wrong with it.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: That's it has too many problems to name, honestly.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: We only we barely cracked the surface.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's just I just feel like it's it just doesn't live up to the potential.
- 56:12SPEAKER_02: Like I'm saying, I just think it has a great premise and just never quite reaches it.
- 56:15SPEAKER_02: I think it just gets a bit lost along the way.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: And loses its focus.
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: Like I wanted to see more in the real world, and I feel like they spend way too much time in in the the fake uh Jack Slater.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you know, I mean, when they get to the real world, it's there's another 40 minutes left of the movie.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: There is still time, there's like time, but they don't they don't do much.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: A lot of it is like him sitting around at home and like you know, and like isn't it harder to find like isn't it harder to find people now?
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: Like it's like it almost is like you you swap it, you make you make an hour and 20 minutes of the movie in the real world and you spend 40 minutes in the in the fake movie.
- 57:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: That's the other thing, it's really long.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a really long movie.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: It's two hours and ten minutes.
- 57:07SPEAKER_01: That's so crazy.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: What?
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: It's so long.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: I couldn't believe it was that long.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: I thought it was gonna be like a tight 90 minutes or something.
- 57:20SPEAKER_02: So uh, okay, so let's talk about uh let's move on from that and talk about do you have a I'm sure you do have something for this.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: Do you have a a movie that is considered great that you think is bad?
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: Considered great that I think is bad.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: One that's reviewed well.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: That's actually a a good question.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: Pro honestly, probably not.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, I will I will say, no, I the movie I will choose to talk about because I've talked about this um on uh Black Man Can't Jump is I didn't like Arrival.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: Oh um and like I I I really didn't like it.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: And like what sucks about it is like like I know that so many people loved it, and like I'm a big like sci-fi, like time like this movie has aliens and time travel in it, or time, you know, not necessarily time travel, but it but it uses time, time is a language, right?
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: And so that it uses time in an interesting way.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Um and I love that's like my shit, like my exact shit is is aliens and and and manipulating time.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Um and like and it's just and I think it's just because like I I consume so much of that stuff that like when the tr the trailers were all like the you won't believe the ending.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: So like I'm already sort of going like, well, what could the ending be?
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: What could it, you know, and like this is like a you would see something like this like in a Doctor Who episode or in a you know, like like the exact same thing.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: So because of that, I was underwhelmed by it, you know, and like I don't think that that means that the movie is bad, right?
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Like, of course not so many people love it, but like, like just because sincerely, just because I saw one TV spot that was like, you won't believe the ending.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: I was like, all right, I better not believe this ending, you know.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: I better be no, this makes sense.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was just all like, well, yeah, no, they set all this up.
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: Like, all of this is it's not a twist.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: None of this is, you know what I mean?
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: Like it didn't feel like a twist, it didn't feel like a surprise, it didn't feel you know.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: So something interesting that's come up.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: So uh I've made like 12 of these so far, or something like that.
- 59:41SPEAKER_02: You're the second person that's brought up a rival.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, there it is.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: So be that person, where did they say they probably didn't say a similar reason, or was it the same?
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: No, completely different reason just basically like they didn't uh they hated uh what they they hated the characters, they hated uh they didn't believe Jeremy Renault was a scientist.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_01: And like since I I and I will also say this ten minutes into the movie, I had this actual thought, this is gonna be my new favorite movie.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Ten minutes in, I was because they treat it with such like like it feels like they're like this is gonna be a high art alien film.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: Like you're about to watch, you know.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I and I and I was I there's like a scene where they just when when they're where they're introducing us to Amy Adams still and we're they're kind of like it's like slowly pushes in on her house, and it's they're like it's like just focused on the ceiling or something, and I was like, this looks beautiful, like yeah, and the the looming uh uh crescent spaceship, like all of that stuff, like was I was like, Oh, this is so cool, yeah.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: And then I don't know, and then I was just like, Well, I don't care.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, another reason actually, another reason they gave was that they said, like, why does Jeremy Renner get to be the one to save the day as well?
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: Amy Adams does all the work and then it's just him at the end.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: Uh basically, they were like, Man, fuck Jeremy Renner.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: Like, they were like, Yeah.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, to be to be honest, yeah, fuck Jeremy Renner.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_02: I don't like him.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's fair.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, that was great.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: Uh just to end things, uh, how can we uh find you?
