- Canon Stogner: Rockytop you'll always be home sweet home to me Good old Rocky Top Rocky Andrew Wright: Woo! Canon Stogner: Top Tennessee Rocky Top Tennessee How about them volunteers, Stooby? How about How about Andrew Wright: Al ballum. How about is that is that is that Rocky Flop part two I'm hearing? Canon Stogner: Yes, it is. Let me tell you something. The University of South Carolina Gamecox, Shane Beamer led football team. Lenore Sellers led offense. Dylan Stewart, J.R. Johnson led defense, went out there and beat Tennessee Volunteers. Coming off a massive, massive upset win at home versus Alabama. Cigar smokes in the air, stormed the field, everything. Just a beautiful weekend for Tennessee. Probably felt like heaven for them fans. Little old Rocky Top's gotta travel to Columbia, South Carolina, boy. Let me tell you something. And I'll be honest with you, Stoops. I'll be really honest with you. we sat right beside right beside us, right beside our four seats, was a Tennessee fan. Great guy. Wasn't obnoxious. You wouldn't my I bet my dad who sat to the left of me didn't even know he was there. I bet this Andrew Wright: Mm. Canon Stogner: is probably the first time he's hearing about a Tennessee fan sitting beside us. Great, great guy. Leaving the game. A lot of Tennessee fans, very, very supportive and like, you know, great game guys. Like, have a great night. Blah, blah, blah. A lot of good guys. I'm Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: like, you know what? Maybe. Maybe the tide's changing a little bit for Tennessee. Maybe they understand a little bit of the SEC gauntlet you gotta go through every week to, eventually make it to wherever you you end up. Then I hop on Twitter Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and I see a lot of fans led by their quarterback, their 115 pound quarterback, who says that they had 21 points taken off the board by the referees and it was the most frustrating game he's ever played. Well, for one, George McIntyre, it was only your third collegiate game you've ever played. So you don't have a big track record. For two, two of those were your own fault. maybe not Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: his own fault, but you were the quarterback of the offense. It's kinda is your own fault. You throw a long touchdown pass, very good throw. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and you have two guys that are on the line of scrimmage right beside each other. Can't happen. Legal shift. Thrown right away. The flag's thrown immediately. And I see Tennessee fans saying, like, like that wasn't even that had nothing to do with the play, blah, blah, blah. You can't pick it up. That's not how football works, buddy. Go watch tennis. Go watch ping pong. And then the second one, the other touchdown That was called back was the receiver is literally right beside the sideline, standing next to Josh Hyper. Josh Hyper's yelling at him to get off the line of scrimmage. He doesn't. As he's going to move back, they snap the ball, referee throws the flag immediately. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And so that's two of the three. The other one was a holding. Now the holding was a little questionable, but the referees, they were bad all night. And they usually Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: are. That's what you get. That's what you get in football. They're bad referees. They're bad both ways. Really horrible for South Carolina as well, but we won, so we're not talking about it as much. We probably would be if they lost. but let me tell you what Tennessee's not saying. They had a third and goal from like the 15 or the 10, and they call a pretty like get me over hands to the face on Vicari Swain, like going to jam Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: the guy and he brushed him in the head. Didn't even grab his face, man, like literally just brushed him and they caught a flag. Automatic first down Tennessee ends up scoring. So that's seven points right there. That's a four point swing or whatever the math is for that seven points they were going to kick a field goal so be three and on the other one and I give George McIntyre a lot of credit Tennessee's quarterback he played a lot of belly tap a lot of belly tap here I'm looking at the stats Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: right here Tennessee had 50 carries for 184 yards 50 carries Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: George McIntyre had seven of those so 50 subtract seven is what injured 43 Andrew Wright: Forty three. Yep. Canon Stogner: George McIntyre Tap bellies forty three times last night. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And Deshaun Bishop goes out of the game. They have fourth and one, and George McIntyre messes up the play. All the Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: coaches and players are yelling at him, seemingly like he messed up the play. Is Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: that South Carolina's fault? Do they take points off the board for you then? Is that the referee's fault that you forgot to play on fourth and one? If you get a first down, Andrew Wright: Nope. Nope. Mm mm. Canon Stogner: they run out the clock, because we couldn't stop him. Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: So for him to go up into the press conference and blame the f the referees and say that. He was the most frustrating game he's ever played, was hideous. Now I'll give him pr credit. He played a clean game yesterday. He did exactly what he needed to until the very end. He went 16 for 23 for only 136 yards. That's how much he weighs. He threw for his weight. And he's talking blaming the referees. Dude, get out of here. And then, so, anyways, back to what I was saying. The fans, the fans, the fans. They were great all night, I thought. And Andrew Wright: Good. Good. Canon Stogner: then they come on Twitter. I'm talking about Tennessee. They come on Twitter and they're literally nitpicking. everything and I went after his name's like Admiral Schofield or something that plays bat he played basketball at Andrew Wright: Entendi. Canon Stogner: Tennessee. I went after him. I'm like, dude, he's like talking about a pass interference that they said was tipped, which it didn't get tipped, but it also wasn't even pass interference. So Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: you can complain all night. Y'all had a big pass interference called on the last drive before the sack. And then it got taken away immediately the next play with the holding. So as much as the referees were bad and like kill y'all's momentum from y'all's touchdowns, you also hurt yourself. So it's just like, what are you arguing? And that's why I say Tennessee fans are probably the worst fans in America, because they're horrible. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: so yeah, massive win for South Carolina. I will I'm I've been hard on the fans all year for South Carolina. I'm gonna kinda have a good thing to say about and a bad thing to say about good thing. I was a little hard on at the beginning of the game 'cause the whole student section and really the three sections at the top were almost empty. It was like awful. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Look, it was embarrassing. so I was kinda a little upset about that, but then I see pictures after the game, like how long it took to check in and stuff, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: probably 'cause a lot do a state fair and everybody coming at the same time. so they SideCon fans did show up. It was packed to the brim from bottom to the top. And they were loud. They stayed great. They were great all night. But boy, do they do we not know how to handle games as South Carolina fans? I I mean, was it was it's really disgusting. We don't know how to win. We don't know how to tie. Like it's fans, Andrew, fans were coming down when we got inside the 10, down seven. Andrew Wright: Yeah, that's crazy. Canon Stogner: Twenty-four-seventeen, fans were coming down, down seven. Andrew Wright: That's crazy. Canon Stogner: And then we score, we have to make an extra point. We score, Andrew Wright: Right. Canon Stogner: more fans start coming down. We make the extra point. Then the whole stadium, you the whole stadium around everywhere starts moving in. And I'm like, guys, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: they have a hundred a minute and forty six seconds left on the clock or whatever Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: it was. And at the time everybody, we thought a timeout too. So it's like, what are we doing? And then yeah, so I'm happy for us, happy for the fans. we deserve it. South Carolina fans deserve it, but we have to Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: be better. I don't have a problem with storming the field. I may have had a little bit of a problem storming the field if we won dominant, like we did last time, or similar to that. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But no problem with storming the field, especially after a game winning field goal. But yeah, South Carolina fans deserve that. The players deserve that. Shane Beamer deserved that. And I'm Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: also going to go on a little tangent again. My Facebook people have been keeping a tally on the guys who've been saying fire beamer and stuff. And one guy, I'm not gonna say his name, but we played baseball with his son. His dad has been going after Shane Beamer the whole year. Whole year. And he tweeted all night last night during the game. His last tweet till this day, I haven't looked in a couple hours, but to the time right now, he his last tweet was why are we running the ball on second and thirteen after losing three yards on the first play? Which which he d he does have a good argument there, but for you to not even ch po post anything after the crazy win that everybody on the internet's posting about, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: it seems a bit salty and just in your feelings. what are you in Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: your feelings about? every week Shane Beamer looks like a better and better coach and a dumber and dumber decision to fire. I'm not so sure if they lose out they they fire him. I don't I don't think they would. Andrew Wright: I think I think they would if they lost out 'cause that would be a couple of bad losses. You got Arkansas, that'd be a bad loss and then lose to Clemson. I th but I I think that that would be the only way he gets fired at this point would be to lose out and be embarrassed a couple of times. Canon Stogner: I yeah. I think he's at least made it through the year after last night and what he's done the last two games. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I mean just a magical run. And you know, back to what I said a couple weeks ago when we beat Florida, that South Carolina fan on the golf trip said, like, it doesn't mean anything. Well, I wonder if la did last night mean anything? 'Cause Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: I mean, it's just ridiculous to say that. But anyways, great on them. It was probably my favorite game of all time. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Of all time. I've been to some very good ones. It was at the last field storm against Tennessee. I was at the field storm against Texas AM. A lot of great games. I've been to some bangers. But last night was the most fun I've ever had. Running, running on that field stoop. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: I thought I was punt returning. I was like, I was running. I don't know if I've ever ran that fast. I was running so fast, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: and like my feet weren't even touching the ground. I was just gliding on. Andrew Wright: It's floating. Canon Stogner: I was on clouds. I was just gliding. I was I swear, if anybody got a video of me, I was probably I probably ran like a deer. I was just do, do, do, do, do. Just incredible game. We had so much fun on the field. So much fun, watching the game. We stayed in it the whole time. Just it was incredible, incredible, incredible Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: night. Night. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Re really, really happy for you boys, man. it killed me that I couldn't be there because we were we were the first one together. And so that was a little bit of FOMO not being able to be there last night. But such a big win. just for the program in general, that's a really big win against the top eleven team that they were. I could be wrong on this, and if I if I am wrong, it's not the it's hasn't happened much. I wanna say that might be the first time that we've ever come back and won an SEC game that we've trailed at the half under Beamer. I feel like I saw that earlier in the season that we had yet to win a conference game that we trot at the half since Beamer took over as head coach. So that's that's a massive weight off his shoulders to get that out of the way. we can come back and win games with him as the head coach. it is possible. Shane Beamer after the game, I love that. Really just shutting down all the conspiracy theories and all that. I I love that. I did I did, like that. Canon Stogner: It it it it Andrew Wright: It didn't prove anything, but I was glad to see him take up for people and stand up for himself in front of the fans. He caught he said it was disrespectful to us. We were there that night. It was disrespectful to us that they were accusing us of stuff. Canon Stogner: I I get it, I get it, but my problem with it is Who cares? They're Tennessee fans. We see, we saw how they reacted last night about the game. who cares? That game is four years apart. Great game. Great game. a program changing win, people would say. Or Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: people at least were saying then. That was like, who cares? And yeah, everybody keeps talking about wristbands. Dude, the the the people they were accusing of wearing wristbands is the defense. The defense gave up 38 points. Andrew Wright: Yeah. And I I did think it was hilarious that when Baymore was talking last night, he said we ha we held him to only thirty eight. Yeah, okay. Elite Elite Tennessee offense that year. No, they kept them out. We No, that was yeah, Canon Stogner: Yeah, he said we only gave up thirty-eight. Yeah. No, that was an elite that was an elite defense and we i it kept him out of the playoff. Or did they did they make the playoff year and played Ohio State? The year after was when they played Ohio State. Andrew Wright: we kept him out that year. Canon Stogner: Okay. But yeah, dude, you're you're saying the defense was cheating and we gave up thirty eight points. They Andrew Wright: Gave a four, give him forty. Canon Stogner: didn't stop. We ran out of fireworks. We ran Andrew Wright: I know. Canon Stogner: out of fireworks. How is that a cheating problem? Andrew Wright: Yeah. Yeah. But but Canon Stogner: Spencer Rattler, that that that game's probably what got Spencer Rattler drafted. Andrew Wright: A thousand percent. A thousand percent. I I thought that was great. And then the other takeaway, Lenore Sellers, probably my f second favorite run of his career, the one that tied the game. That just in just insanity. And like we all know like he's gifted and talented and like physically built like that. And he got put in some national spotlight in twenty twenty four when we kinda went on the run and won six straight. But everything since then has been negative. But it was really I thought really cool to see last night. the national college football audience, see that play and realize, holy cow, this guy was not going to let his team lose that football game and do whatever Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: it took to do that. I thought that was incredible. Just an insane run by him. I that's right under the third and sixteen run against Clemson. So yeah, really, really big win. Gotta bounce back from it now though. It's in the past. I'm glad y'all had a great time last night. Really enjoyed that, but we gotta bounce back and keep this thing going now. Canon Stogner: Yeah, a couple of things off that. One thing about Lenores is you know, people were kind of calm for his head, you know, Cutter Reps was getting cutter Cutter Woods was getting more reps a couple of weeks ago. South Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Carolina's gonna miss Lenoris Ellers so much Andrew Wright: So much. Yep. Canon Stogner: in the fact that like nobody in the country has the guy that can escape and get out of trouble like he does. But I think with the way that he plays quarterback, you can kind of deal with the passing. of the passing his passing game. He struggled. Andrew Wright: Correct. You can, yeah. Canon Stogner: He I didn't think he played that great last night. I really didn't. Andrew Wright: N from what I watched, I did not think he played that great throwing the ball. Yeah, I did not. Canon Stogner: Yeah, he's he's he's a really good deep ball thrower and he missed two or three wide open guys. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: not wide open, but had a step or two. I mean to say for he went eighteen for thirty-two with a pick, a bad pick inside the twenty, twenty five, Andrew Wright: Bad p yeah, bad pick. Canon Stogner: to win that game with the way he played, to win that game with Nick Harbor not having a single catch, to Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: win that game with Matt Fuller only having nine carries for less than thirty yards. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: that is is that it was just an incredible night. It was meant to be. 'Cause they had us. They had us beat. Andrew Wright: Yeah, it was. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: They had us. so yeah, they're they're gonna miss him so much. just in that phase of the game. But yeah, I don't know. I was horse last night and there's a couple, there's a couple and another guy or two that sits right in front of us and they always sit down. Always sit down. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: And P and Lucas will shoot me down for this, but I kept yelling, like in the fourth quarter, I was like, let's go, everybody up, everybody up, all 80,000 of us. It takes twelve. It's twelve of us out here. They finally got up. I don't know if it was me or the Norse the Norse Sailors touchdown, but they finally got up. Andrew Wright: Okay, yeah. Canon Stogner: so I'll take credit. But yeah, I'm gonna give a little hot take. That was a better run. I mean, what are some of the greatest runs ever? Like, that was a better run than Marshawn Lynch Beast Quake, I'll say it. Andrew Wright: Okay. Wow. All right. Canon Stogner: And that was a that was a better run than the one against Clemson. Andrew Wright: Okay. I'm fine. I'm I wouldn't argue that. Canon Stogner: Yeah, just spectacular. It was incredible. Andrew Wright: Yeah, it was. That's a grown man football, right? Is what that was. Canon Stogner: Incredible game. But yeah, walking off the field, I took me some grass. Andrew Wright: Okay, there you Canon Stogner: I took me some grass. We took some great pictures. I took we took a picture with AD, Jeremiah, or Jeremiah Donati. Jeremiah? Yeah, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Yeah. Jeremiah. Canon Stogner: yeah, sorry. talked to Clayton White, you know, high five Dylan Stewart. Took a picture with, or I didn't, I took the picture, I kind of got moged, but I took the picture of Lucas and P with Malik. Malik Orson, the kicker. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: got some pictures with Vicari Swain. So we really I mean, it was it couldn't have been a better night. But walking off that field, what I was saying, walking off that field on to Oklahoma. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Hey sh shout out Dylan Store by the way. Major Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: shout out to Dylan Store. He has come out with his hair on fire since he got suspended for a game. Canon Stogner: Well, I will say a lot of people probably didn't see this. I know we did, but it was right in front of us. And I don't know if they caught it on the TV copy, but late in the fourth quarter, it's probably seven or eight minutes left right before the right before the fourth and one, a couple of plays Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: before, or you could go back and watch it. it was like a run play, and it was probably two or three, maybe four seconds after the whistle, the right tackle for Tennessee is like literally pushing harbor, like or Stewart still blocking Like Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: it they're almost at the sideline. And Andrew, when I tell you Dylan Stewart threw the biggest haymaker of his career, you know, like the one against Alabama was like just kind of like a little sneak uppercut. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: This one was a swing and it grades the top of the Tennessee Lyman's head, the top of his helmet. Both of the referees, there's one right here and one right here. They're both looking at him this way. And like one of them kind of reaches for the flag and then keeps it. Andrew Wright: Wow. Canon Stogner: And so I I kept telling him, I dude, could you imagine if he got ejected again? Andrew Wright: yeah, he'd be done. Canon Stogner: Yeah, that it just can't happen. Andrew Wright: No, okay. Canon Stogner: but yeah, that's why I said it was the biggest swing and miss of all time. Andrew Wright: Geez, that's crazy. Canon Stogner: I'm it was an absolute haymaker. I s and I know Landon told us that he saw it in the student section. So but I don't know how many people like Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. I don't I don't think I don't think T V saw it. I don't remember them showing that while I was watching after the game last night. So I don't think T V caught. Canon Stogner: Yeah. It had to be on it had to be on camera though, unless they like flipped the camera right right after like the runner went down. But yeah, massive swing. I was just so glad he didn't connect. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. That's crazy. Canon Stogner: Cause I mean, it was like dominant over the one that he did at Alabama. he just didn't land. So yeah, great game. And then our guy Tony, he went with us with dad, our neighbor. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: He hasn't been to a game in twenty years, and the first game he goes to is Yeah. Andrew Wright: Wow. Shout out Tony, man. Canon Stogner: So very, very fun night. yeah, I was gonna say something. Andrew Wright: yeah, I'm like thinking said, just really really happy for y'all. Glad it kinda worked out that way. needed it, kinda had to have it. And I I'm I th I'm probably probably an idiot for kinda hanging on to the hope this way I am. But just with the Canon Stogner: No, I think er I think everybody is with the way that is falling in right now. Andrew Wright: With the way the SEC has played out this year, there is still an outside chance. And I and I said that last night to the p the people I was with. And then it's kinda funny, they popped up the SEC stand-ins after the tet Texas all missed game. we're still not even in the top ten in the SEC stand-ins dang, that lowers my confidence level a little bit. I'm I feel like I'm not crazy for thinking that's still within the realm of possibility. Canon Stogner: Yeah, but I think I think it's okay to think that because of like We're I don't want to say we're past the tough part of our schedule 'cause we're we're not. But the Alabama and Mississippi State that we played weeks ago is not the same team that we're that are that's playing now. and I think Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah. Canon Stogner: a lot of teams that are in that are ahead of us are still have still have like a lot of tough games left. Andrew Wright: The only the only downside would be that Kentucky and Alabama are both in front of us with the tiebreaker. So we're really Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: extra game behind them and Kentucky, especially with them only having one conference loss still. So we're still we're really three games behind them and not two. But it's probably Canon Stogner: Yeah. Yeah. But Andrew Wright: not going to happen, but there is still somehow a chance that it could, which would be insane. Canon Stogner: dude, if it was if it was the twenty fourteen playoff this this year. Andrew Wright: yeah, if we went out still lose one more time we'd probably be in. Canon Stogner: Yeah. So, but yeah, the only thing that sucks for South Carolina now is like we've fallen into the same trap that Tennessee did. It's like you win a big game at home, you stormed the field, you're celebrating, Andrew Wright: Gotta yeah, hit the road. Canon Stogner: and now you gotta go to Oklahoma, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: who's gonna have an elite defense. all right, last thing on South Carolina, Andrew, we're gonna start doing our Saturday slate game ball of the week. Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: Saturday slate game ball of the week. every every week after NFL games and even college now, these coaches start giving out game balls to all the guys who played, had a great game or against the team that they played. So we're gonna do a Saturday slate game ball. And my game ball is going to the entire offensive line for South Carolina. For Randy Clements to bring in a whole new five and Shane Beamer to bring in a whole new five offensive line. You've had some changes every game. the last couple of games has been the same starting five. But to block Tennessee the way that they did, I mean, I Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: think Tennessee probably only had shoot, they may have had three or four sacks, but a lot of them was like Lenores just scrambling out of bounds or getting sacked on third down, where he probably should have Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: thrown it away or at least thrown it up and try to get a catch or pass interference or something. but yeah, I can only remember them maybe giving up one or two sacks inside the pocket for Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: a Tennessee team that has been dominating. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: A lot of teams dominated T or Texas, dominated Alabama. All these teams that they're dominating. and for that offensive line to go out there and do that. And even Jordan kind of said it. He like, Yeah, nobody's talking about the offensive line this year, which is great. Cause you're not talking about the offensive line when they're blocking well. So Andrew Wright: Right. Yeah, it is. Yeah. Canon Stogner: incredible for them. do you want to give out a game ball? We have two. Andrew Wright: Yeah, I'll I'll I'll give one real quick. I'll flip it around to the other side. I'll give one to your guy, Clayton White, for holding that Tennessee offense that now it's not like the most fire powered, high volume Tennessee offense we've ever seen. It's not it doesn't even resemble the one in twenty twenty two. But just kind of the way that that first half kinda ended with giving up twenty one points and what felt like a really short amount of time to come out and hold them to three in the second half and keep your team in the game basically defensively was humongous. And Canon Stogner: Without swain. Andrew Wright: yeah, with Avicari is so huge. And I've I've thought you've always loved Clayton White that you've been very vocal about that. And I thought after the the Bama and the Kentucky, I was like, man, how much longer can we let even Mississippi State that was three straight weeks of a lot of freaking points. And I'm sitting there thinking, man, is the Clayton White magic gone? has it run its course? And then to do that to Florida last week and then that to Tennessee this week, especially in the second half, was humongous. And such a huge confidence boost for probably himself and even for me, okay. He's still got it. Clayton White is still good here. We need to keep him around as long as we can. So I'll I'll give the game ball to Clayton White. Canon Stogner: Yeah. No, I I I like briefly spoke to him last night. I glazed him, but I was like, Andrew Wright: I felt I felt very sure you did. Canon Stogner: yeah, I was like, dude, you caught a heck of a game. And I kept it moving. Kept it moving. But yeah. two more things. I know I said I was we were done about South Carolina. For one, this is gonna be very cheesy and giddy. So my dad, if you're listening, I apologize because he kinda got on us for being a little giddy during f Jordan K interview. But I was telling them last night after the game, I was like, it was it was very cool to see you could tell how much it meant to Donati and how much he cared. he Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: is a true, it felt like he's a true athletic director. he's doing all these things with around the stadium. And, you know, it was just a massive day. 3 30 kickoff and the fans stormed the field. You could just tell it meant so much to him. We asked to take a picture and he didn't even hesitate, like immediately took a picture with him. Maybe one of the greatest pictures ever I've taken. in the camera. We got absolutely mogged by him. But he's he's a Andrew Wright: Yeah, it's a it's a good one, man. Ma he's a large human. Canon Stogner: yeah, he's a very, very big guy. But yeah, very cool dude. And then the last thing I was gonna say, crap. this is like a Andrews stat right here, where if you take away all of Arch Manning's passing touchdowns, he doesn't have any this year. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Deshaun Bishop, his first two carries of the game, he had two carries for thirty-three yards. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: If you take away those two carries, he has thirty carries for ninety. He has 30 carries for 88 yards, which which puts Andrew Wright: You'll take that any day of the week. Canon Stogner: him at 2.9 a carry. So Andrew Wright: Take that any day of the week. Canon Stogner: as bad as some of those drives felt, and some how long some of those drives took for Tennessee to go score for them to only, hold him to 2.9. And even with that stat, he only rushed for 3.8 a carry. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: So massive, yeah, kind of like you said, massive credit to the defense of Clayton White. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: but yeah. all right. On to the next. we did not do our spread picks this week. Andrew Wright: Not Canon Stogner: so but there were some good games this week, or at least some close scores. I don't know. Andrew Wright: Yes. There were. Canon Stogner: We didn't obviously didn't get to watch a lot of games. We watched the LSU Auburn game before at twelve. LSU dominated that game thirty eight seventeen. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Kinda you know, kind of the same situation as Tennessee coming off a big win. And then you still have another dog coming into town. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: And LSU dominated Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: them. and I still think LSU is very good. And I honestly wouldn't put it past them, you know, making a run. cause they're starting to get healthy again too. Trade S Green came back. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. They are, yep. Canon Stogner: that final score is 38-17. SMU pooped on Cal 59 to 20. It was close game at halftime. It was like 17-17. Yeah. Andrew Wright: Cow was le Cow was leading ahead of time, yeah. Canon Stogner: And pooped on them in the second half. Northwestern kept it rolling against Rutgers. Arizona won 39-3 against Iowa State. Boise State won thirty one ten against Washington State. Wisconsin, Andrew, this is a game I'm talking to you about a bit. Wisconsin Andrew Wright: Okay. Canon Stogner: buried USC and Lincoln Riley. They are still ranked, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: but what are your thoughts on Lincoln Riley? It's it's gotta be coming to an end. Andrew Wright: Yeah, it has to be. let me check their schedule. They have a chance and it feels really unfair to Ohio State. They're about to play them with a backup quarterback. 'Cause USC is gonna have a chance in that game because of that. And that could be one of those things where like they just are Canon Stogner: They got they got Ohio State, Indiana, Maryland, UCLA. Andrew Wright: There will be beneficiaries of the circumstance probably. Should be beneficiaries next week against Ohio State. they sh I think they should win that game without having to play Julian Saiyan. But if they don't, and if it's not already over, that would be the end of Lincoln Riley. And it probably is over now. he just continues to fail. I that game really wasn't even on kinda even on my radar yesterday. I'm like US C was constant, USC's fine, they've gotten rolling again after the Oregon loss. They've bounced back and kinda won some games. And I look up last night, I'm like, holy cow, they just got embarrassed. just completely laid an egg at home. So yeah, it has to be coming to an end. I say, if they lose to Ohio State with either Fayehee or Tabian St. Clair playing, he's gotta be done. Especially with Indiana the next week, they could easily rattle off bang bang. And you go from six and one with the entire season in front of you to a three game losing streak, six and four, and you're done. So yeah, he's if he wasn't already, he's kinda in must win mode against two of what would be the best teams that he plays all year. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Just shut down the offense, especially in the second half. They didn't score. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Iowa got upset by Minnesota thirteen to ten. Andrew Wright: Yep. Canon Stogner: just usually Iowa wins those games when it's thirteen to ten. They Andrew Wright: They do. Yeah. Canon Stogner: usually win those games. PJ Fleck, I can't figure him out. He's like Andrew Wright: I can't either, man. I cannot do it. Canon Stogner: yeah, he's like the intensity Shane Beamer. Andrew Wright: Yeah, he is. Canon Stogner: Like, you know, he's gonna lose some games and fans are gonna call for him or he's gonna be on other coaching targets but he's yeah, I mean he keeps winning and I'll get into this a little bit, but I haven't looked at the slate for next week. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: But I could imagine it's a poor slate since they're going to Indiana. Andrew Wright: Game Day's going yeah, there's there's a couple. like I think the the best game to go to would have been Arizona and Texas Tech, but I just think Game Day was gonna shy away from three straight Big Twelve games. Like they've already just went to BYU in Utah, so I think they're just shying away from that. And then you have Wisconsin and Iowa could have been intriguing had Iowa not lost. Canon Stogner: Okay, but okay, but my question here is were they not at Indiana for the Ohio State game? Andrew Wright: No. Big Noon was. They were not. They were that was that was BYU Notre Dame, right? That was last week, Canon Stogner: You're right. Andrew Wright: right? Yeah. So you have you had Florida and Georgia, but that's a neutral site game, but they go set up outside of Mercedes Benz. They'll do that in four weeks when Commerce Championship Week is there. Yeah, Utah and Centsi's a decent game. Canon Stogner: It felt like honestly when I saw when I saw the announcement Andrew Wright: Yeah, really, really, really, really Canon Stogner: when I saw the announcement it felt like a North Dakota State game. Andrew Wright: So so South Dakota and South Dakota State played this week, and that's where everybody I've seen wanted them to go just for a different environment, a cool story. the only other game that even they could have considered and before they lost last night would have been Ohio State and USC. But that would also have been three straight weeks out west for game day two. I don't know if they've ever done that. So yeah. When I saw it, I Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: was like, Man, it must not be a great slate. They're going to Minnesota just for the sole fact that they think they can pull off an up six. They've done it twice already this year. Canon Stogner: Yeah. you mentioned it, but Kentucky handled Vanderbilt thirty-four seventeen. Alabama bounces back with a win over Texas AM thirty one twenty. Utah, that was the college game day. Game started eleven forty, it felt like. Andrew Wright: It was so late. Canon Stogner: they beat Houston twenty one thirteen. Score was a lot or the game was a lot closer than what the score was. I know it's one session, but crazy game. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: did you what did you think about the letting them score there? Andrew Wright: kinda feel like you don't not really had to. I don't ever know how I feel about that situation about letting somebody score 'cause you never know what can happen with a turnover or a bad snap. So I I'm always Canon Stogner: And they couldn't get a first day couldn't get a first down. That was kinda what got me. Andrew Wright: Yeah, I I'm always so torn on that. And then another thing, and this might be a crazy hot take, I've always thought this too. Utah in that spot, they score there. And before the extra point they're up seven. I've always thought go for I've Canon Stogner: Yeah, do you go for two? Andrew Wright: always thought go for two. Absolutely. I've always been on Canon Stogner: I agree. But but the only thing about that is Houston if they go for the two and don't get it and Houston scores, Houston probably goes for two. Andrew Wright: Correct, yeah. It could be like a momentum flipper type of thing. So that's the only yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: 'Cause you're on the road, yeah. I think especially with the way their defense played, holding to only thirteen, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: I think you ma force twice to get in the end zone. Andrew Wright: Yeah, it it wasn't I didn't I wasn't like, my gosh, that's the worst call I've ever seen to kick. I've just always thought hey, more teams should do that. Especially Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: especially earlier in games too, to make teams chase possessions and points a lot earlier than they want to. Canon Stogner: Yeah. UCLA handled Michigan State. UCLA's like number seven now or number eight. Crazy. Andrew Wright: Yeah, insane. Canon Stogner: They're undefeated. Bob Chesney is probably going to get the bag. but Andrew Wright: yeah. Canon Stogner: I was telling my dad last night or yesterday at t the game. I'm like, why would you leave? Because for one, you have all the momentum, which is always the biggest Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: question. Usually a hot coach has all the momentum at the previous school. you're recruiting you have a one area. Really, it's your recruiting and it's all Southern Cow Kids and Hawaii and all, that West Coast side. You're Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: competing against three schools. And well, you're competing competing against two schools. You got USC and Oregon. Especially now, if USC fires Lincoln Riley, they're gonna have a massive overhaul. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: I don't know, man. I feel like and you other than taxes, I feel like UCLA'd be a great place to live. Andrew Wright: Yeah, it would be. Canon Stogner: so yeah, I don't know. He's he'll definitely get offered to go take some money somewhere. I think Andrew Wright: yeah. Canon Stogner: him and Will Stein will be the two hottest coaching candidates. I think Will Stein leaving makes a lot more sense than Bob Chesney. Andrew Wright: Correct. Canon Stogner: so yeah, Indiana, Michigan went to overtime in an absolute snooze fest. Andrew Wright: Snoozer. Canon Stogner: Defensive showdown. I mean, both defenses are really good. but yeah, horrible game, horrible game. Michigan's so bad. Like Andrew Wright: Shit. Canon Stogner: But but they're not. Like they're Andrew Wright: They still have they they they're lacking in the most important position. And that's just it's not gonna play. Canon Stogner: Yeah. if you their defense now is probably better than the one they had when they won the championship. Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: Which same thing for Tennessee. I'm thankful Tennessee doesn't have the offense they did when they with that defense they have now. And same thing for Andrew Wright: Right, absolutely. Canon Stogner: Oklahoma. Oklahoma's defense, they had a decent offense. it's a completely different outlook on the season, but Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: BYU number two going into the weekend, upset versus UCF. UCF's First ever win against the top five team. probably that game was going on at the same time as South Carolina. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: so both of those games blew up all over the internet. I haven't seen much of it. I just saw the last couple of plays. But yeah, massive win for UCF and horrible win for BYU. Kinda like we said, fall into that trap. You have a big win, and then you have another team that you gotta come play. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. And you got and you gotta you gotta go on the road. Yep. Canon Stogner: Mm-hmm. Miami beat Pitt and then we get into Ole Miss in Texas. we did our cute little giddy stuff where Texas back and forth. Archie boy, here they come. but yeah, they did hold on to win. I didn't think he played that great. I thought they just ran the ball all over. Ole Miss's defense is horrible to. but Andrew Wright: Yeah, it is. Canon Stogner: yeah, I mean I kind of kind of thought Get the ball in Trinidad. If he's got time on the clock, he's gonna take him down the field. But Texas defense held up. Andrew Wright: We did, yeah. Canon Stogner: so massive win for them. we Andrew Wright: I I think I think every I I'm pretty sure this every single time we've done our little thing where we text about Arch. I'm like a thousand percent sure they have gone down the field and scored a touchdown the next drive. Abs I think Canon Stogner: The next drive. Yeah. Andrew Wright: it's happened every single time. But yeah, I like you said I didn't I didn't think he played well. He had three turnovers. I thought last night was the example of what we laid Texas out as before the season. there's too many playmakers to lose the game. And that's what played out last night. They just have too many guys that can show up and make plays. Canon Stogner: But I think I think they're even better than we thought because to have three turnovers, I think before the Andrew Wright: Yeah. Canon Stogner: season, if we said if he just doesn't turn the ball over, they're gonna win. But to have three turn to Andrew Wright: Yeah, if if we look at yeah, mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: have three turnovers against Trinidad and you still win the game, crazy. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Canon Stogner: they're they're they are really good. Andrew Wright: Yeah, they are. Canon Stogner: But we needed that game for a bit. Andrew Wright: We did. And then they st they still got some tough games to play. We'll s we'll I still we still don't trust the quarterback. that's that still hasn't changed. Canon Stogner: Yeah. Yeah. Andrew Wright: I still don't think he played great. And this isn't true because I we're not we're not big enough and we don't have enough people that watch us, but somewhere in my mind, I'm thinking there's a couple Texas fans that tune into us and they're just waiting on that gotcha moment. they're waiting Canon Stogner: They get. Andrew Wright: for him to go out and play one of his best games of the year, and they're gonna come after us. And I really was waiting on it last night. in my head, I was like, there is an alternate universe. Where there's these three thirty seven year olds living at home watching this Texas game and they see Arch goes out there and gets a win against Ole Miss and they just waiting to call us out for it. And I'll went back at him 'cause he played, like you said, not great. You cannot have three turnovers. And they were very fortunate to win that game, even with that. Canon Stogner: Yeah, but I know I know we've been hard on like really reaching to dog but like the whole week it was talked about like the backups getting more snaps, and then he Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: comes out and he's like acting completely different. I'm like, dude, why are you being per you're being performative right now? Like Andrew Wright: Yeah. He fell asleep. Yeah. Yeah. Canon Stogner: w it it just it all kind of seemed like an act coming from him, Andrew Wright: Yeah. Could have been. Canon Stogner: which obviously hurt my nerves. but yeah. and then also I do want to give credit It ticks me off so much, so I'm going back into it. for those fans to talk about Fire Beamer, get it get out. Clean house. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Yeah, he's not a good X's and O's guy. He can recruit pretty good. But if you look at Texas AM, they lose their game earlier this year. And it's like they haven't won a game since, I don't think, or they maybe won one game against Citadel, right? Andrew Wright: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: You look at Oklahoma, they lost a game they lost against Michigan. Their only win since then against a decent team was against Texas, which Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: Just so many of these teams are not able to keep it up every week, win or lose. And Shane Beamer goes and loses three tough games. You get blown out on the road. You get blown out in the second half against Mississippi State. You're up 16. You get beaten overtime at home against Kentucky in overtime. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: And he just keeps them coming, keeps them coming. And especially with the new day and age of college football, with the Everybody being more even because of the portal and you know, the schedule is just tougher and tougher with nine games. For him to just be able to rally up the team and get to play every week and come out and perform. I mean, this team is so much better than four and three. So much better. So much better. Andrew Wright: I agree. Somewhat. And I think I think one thing, and maybe you'll disagree. I think we've seen a lot of the SEC teams this year that have slipped up and they've lost a game they weren't supposed to. And maybe we'll see this differently. But for me, for me at least, we we were all over Mississippi State. hey, this is a serious team. we cannot play about Canon Stogner: Trap game, yeah. Andrew Wright: this team. So I thought going in Mississippi State was going to win that football game. I thought Alabama was gonna win. And then I'm sorry, I I thought South Carolina was going to actually beat Alabama, but like for the outside world, like that's the game Bama's supposed to win. And Canon Stogner: Yeah. Andrew Wright: then like even Kentucky, like we were favored, but Kentucky's the better football team, I think. And like they're a really good team. But like I d I just don't think that we've lost a game that we were so like weren't supposed to yet. That's my thing. Like I think we've beat the team. Like I think the teams that have beat us, like I think they're just better teams than us, probably. And I think that we just haven't had that slip up game yet, which is which I think has been different than the SEC. Canon Stogner: Well, real quick, Kamario Taylor's stock goes up every week because they're ter they're terrible without him. Andrew Wright: It does. It yeah, awful. Canon Stogner: I'm not I don't think these teams Alabama, I think, is the only team that's been better than us. Andrew Wright: Okay, that that that's that's fair. Canon Stogner: If you take away three plays on the season, we're probably top ten right now and we're six and one. Three plays. You have third and twenty one against Mississippi State. They throw Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: like a thirty, forty yard bomb and end zone guys wide open. Just a blown coverage. Then you have a third and fifteen against Mississippi. Guys, Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: whoa. Can you see me? Could you see me the whole time? Andrew Wright: Yeah. Yep, I gotcha. Canon Stogner: My computer just cut out. you have third and fifteen against Mississippi State, guys wide open to flat, blown coverage on the same side of the field. They Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: get a first down and extends the drive and goes down and scores. So that's two plays. And then the third play was the blown coverage against Kentucky. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: If you just can eliminate those three plays and just add them somewhere else where maybe you have a blown coverage, because it's gonna happen, but you have a blown coverage and they maybe get a first down. But those are like daunting plays. Those are back breakers on defense. Andrew Wright: Correct they and they are, yeah. Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: So yeah. But kinda like I said, it goes to my point about Shane Beamer being able to rally up the troops and get them playing every week. Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: So we did not do our spread picks this week. We'll get back on that on Thursday. Andrew, anything. Andrew Wright: real quick, shout out Virginia Tech knocking off Clemson. First time in like first time in like Canon Stogner: Yeah, double whammy this weekend. Almost had to triple whammy. Andrew Wright: almost first time in like 20 years. So shout out Canon Stogner: Almost had the triple whammy. Andrew Wright: shout out James Franklin. Love that. And then real real sorry, real real quick. I texted you about this, I think, or maybe I put it on the Twitter. I understand the the day and age we're in in college football. Okay. I get it. I know where we're at. It just really bothers me that Jesse Legree, absolute dog this year. Absolute stud. It just really irked my nerves that on his bye week, he went from Oregon State, right? You know you know we know where Oregon is on the map. He took out his little flight and he came all the way down to Florida where he's from. Canon Stogner: it was in Florida. Andrew Wright: It was at his high school in Florida, where he hosted a Decision day to announce his return to Oregon State Canon Stogner: Hmm. Andrew Wright: next year. And I I read some of the reasons. They said that he was also he was a three-star recruit out of high school. I'm like, yeah, we you went to O you went to Oregon State, doggy. You weren't a five-star. But he Canon Stogner: Yeah, that's crazy. Andrew Wright: said he felt like he didn't get a really good recruiting day, so he wanted to go back home. A really good signing day. He wanted to go back home. Canon Stogner: I can tell you why he did that. Somebody threw that bag at him. Probably the organ or Nike guy. Andrew Wright: You know who it was? Umcho Umcho He donated two million dollars to Oregon State for him for them to retain him. That dude's getting paid five million dollars next year, dog. And now he's he's a dog. He leads the country and everything right now. He's a stud. But that's I just had to get it off my chest. That really, really bothered me that we're doing this mid season. and it's not like he's a junior that might go to the draft. He's a freshman that has no choice but to come back to college next year. So yeah, that that really hurt my nerve. So yeah, that was my two things. Shout out James Franklin and Jesse Legree. Be better. That's all I got. I'm done. I'm done. Canon Stogner: All right. Andrew Wright: I also hate that the Brewers are up to on the World Series, but we're not on a baseball podcast. Canon Stogner: Yeah, not a baseball podcast. all right. congratulations to our two Saturday slate game balls receivers, recipients, Andrew Wright: Yep. Major congrats. Canon Stogner: Clayton White and Sarkon's offensive line. Maybe we'll branch out next week and get to another team. Andrew Wright: Maybe we'll see. Canon Stogner: But yeah, we'll be sending you something in the mail. hey, we have been doing very good on our last several episodes. We're averaging over Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Canon Stogner: a hundred viewers. Which means we are down like seventy subscribers. People that are watching, not subscribing. Canon Stogner: Yeah, we have five more games left for most teams. So it's kinda it's coming up quickly, but yeah. So appreciate you guys. We are the Andrew Wright: Mm-hmm. Yep. Canon Stogner: Saturday Slaters, and we'll see you next time.
