Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, Nicky Westcott's
- 0:13Speaker 1: refreshing pregnancy reveal, Kayla Edsinas' surprising business empire, and the
- 0:18Speaker 1: Wild Ones poke fun at the Jackie Alexander, Gabby Sullivan feud.
- 0:23Speaker 1: But first, I'm coming to you with an update on
- 0:25Speaker 1: the biting pandemic at Molly May's daughter's daycare. So last
- 0:30Speaker 1: month we discussed how Molly May consulted ChatGPT for parenting
- 0:34Speaker 1: advice after she got a call from Bambi's daycare saying
- 0:37Speaker 1: she'd bitten another child. At the time, Molly was torn
- 0:40Speaker 1: about whether to take Bambi for their planned ice cream date. Now,
- 0:45Speaker 1: in Molly's recent YouTube, she provided an update on the situation,
- 0:49Speaker 1: sharing a clip of Bambi listing people she wanted to bite.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Let's take a listen.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I've got to bite someone.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Oh, no, no.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I'm going to bite your way. No, we don't use
- 1:03Speaker 2: our mouth to bite, do we? What do we use
- 1:06Speaker 2: our mouth for?
- 1:06Speaker 3: For food.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for food, for eating.
- 1:11Speaker 3: We bite our food. Don't bite anyone.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:15Speaker 2: We bite Emily.
- 1:18Speaker 5: No.
- 1:20Speaker 2: We bite this way.
- 1:23Speaker 5: No.
- 1:23Speaker 2: No, I don't know why I'm laughing at that. We
- 1:28Speaker 2: bite croissants.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 2: We bite pasta.
- 1:32Speaker 5: No.
- 1:33Speaker 2: We bite pizza.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Hats off to Molly. I think this was great parenting
- 1:36Speaker 1: from her because she really tried hard to discourage the behaviour.
- 1:40Speaker 1: At one point, she nearly lost it. I also loved
- 1:43Speaker 1: her pronunciation of croissant. We bite croissants. I wonder how
- 1:47Speaker 1: the parents of Emily and Dora are feeling watching Molly's vlog.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Are they like contemplating ripping the kids out of the
- 1:53Speaker 1: daycare centre? Or is this like Emily and Dora's payday?
- 1:55Speaker 1: Like Molly Mae's kid has bitten us. We are going
- 1:57Speaker 1: to sue. I mean, it's on record that she was
- 1:59Speaker 1: planning it. I think the comment section was almost as
- 2:02Speaker 1: funny as the clip of Bambi. So someone wrote underneath,
- 2:05Speaker 1: her listing the victims is sending me. And that comment
- 2:08Speaker 1: got over 235,000 likes. Someone else said, yeah, she defo
- 2:13Speaker 1: shouldn't have got the ice cream. And other people were
- 2:17Speaker 1: joking that Bambi's grandfather, John Fury, already had her in training.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So he, of course, is Tommy's boxing trainer. It is
- 2:24Speaker 1: crazy how quickly these snippets from Molly's YouTubes go up
- 2:27Speaker 1: on TikTok and suddenly gain like hundreds of thousands of lives.
- 2:31Speaker 1: There was one I saw the other day and it
- 2:33Speaker 1: was Molly outside a Tesco. So she'd arrived with Bambi
- 2:36Speaker 1: and the Tesco wasn't opened and it was her people watching.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Oh no, that was the saddest thing I've ever seen.
- 2:42Speaker 2: That was the saddest thing I've ever seen. He's not
- 2:44Speaker 2: even that old, but I've just seen an elderly man
- 2:48Speaker 2: go up to the door at Tesco and realise that
- 2:49Speaker 2: it's closed. And he literally just did this motion. Oh,
- 2:54Speaker 2: I'm watching him walk away with his head down.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well, I know the feeling, but oh, there's another one
- 2:59Speaker 2: walking up now. Doors closed, looking in. Oh, this is
- 3:03Speaker 2: pure heartbreak.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I could have watched her commentating that for hours. Like
- 3:09Speaker 1: it was hilarious. Like the thought of Molly May watching
- 3:13Speaker 1: these people. I wonder if she gets annoyed that people
- 3:16Speaker 1: make these edits of her YouTube video and then gain
- 3:19Speaker 1: all of the likes. I wonder if it will get
- 3:20Speaker 1: to a point where an influencer's manager will cut up
- 3:24Speaker 1: the clips that they know will go viral. In saying
- 3:26Speaker 1: that though, I think the clips go viral because people
- 3:30Speaker 1: just want to have a bitch about what the influencer
- 3:32Speaker 1: has done. So maybe they don't want that attention on them.
- 3:35Speaker 1: It's free promotion. It's like they're doing the advertising for her.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But TikTok's almost turned into Tattle Life where a clip
- 3:42Speaker 1: will go up and people will just go absolutely ham.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And often the influencer who's in the clip will see it.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Not putting too much pressure on it and, you know,
- 3:51Speaker 5: being completely vulnerable and honest at the fact that, yeah, fuck,
- 3:55Speaker 5: I am freaking out.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 5: I probably don't know what I'm doing. I've dodged every
- 3:58Speaker 5: nappy change in my life and I've got three nieces
- 4:00Speaker 5: and nephews.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Nikki Westcott has opened up about her pregnancy news. The
- 4:06Speaker 1: fashion label founder admitted on her podcast this week that
- 4:09Speaker 1: she's been left freaking out after falling pregnant by surprise.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I think this has to be one of the most
- 4:14Speaker 1: refreshing influencer pregnancy announcement stories I've listened to. Since Nikki
- 4:19Speaker 1: announced last week that she and her husband, Ollie Frost,
- 4:22Speaker 1: were pregnant with their first child, I have been desperate
- 4:25Speaker 1: to know more. Particularly because Nikki is a bit of
- 4:28Speaker 1: a party girl. I mean, she's known as one half
- 4:30Speaker 1: of the wild ones with her best friend, Lucy Jackson.
- 4:34Speaker 1: They've even named their podcast live to a party girl.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So when I saw the news, I was like, wow,
- 4:39Speaker 1: that is going to be a big lifestyle change. So
- 4:42Speaker 1: I presume that it must have been a planned pregnancy
- 4:44Speaker 1: because she got married last year. So when I saw
- 4:47Speaker 1: the podcast episode pop up and it teased Nikki would
- 4:49Speaker 1: explain how she told her husband, Ollie, and her best friend, Lucy,
- 4:53Speaker 1: I just expected your typical influencer story. I even imagined
- 4:56Speaker 1: the curated surprise video that would soon be posted on
- 4:59Speaker 1: social media. But that's not what we got instead. It
- 5:03Speaker 1: was this role reversal and Nikki was the one that
- 5:06Speaker 1: was taken by surprise. Yeah, so Nikki was actually at
- 5:09Speaker 1: the doctor for a pap smear and she mentioned to
- 5:11Speaker 1: the doctor that she was a day late for her period,
- 5:14Speaker 1: but she said it wasn't anything new because she'd been
- 5:16Speaker 1: having really a regular period since going off the pill.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I think normally when you hear someone has gone
- 5:21Speaker 1: off the pill, you think they must have been trying
- 5:23Speaker 1: for a baby. But Nikki explained that her decision to
- 5:26Speaker 1: go off the pill was actually motivated by fellow influencer
- 5:29Speaker 1: M Davies. Apparently it took Em around a year to
- 5:32Speaker 1: get her period back after going off the pill. So
- 5:35Speaker 1: Nikki was worried that the same thing might happen to
- 5:37Speaker 1: her because she'd been on the pill for 16 years.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So she decided after a wedding, she'd give her body
- 5:43Speaker 1: a break from it. I mean, I did the exact
- 5:44Speaker 1: same thing. I was like, I was so worried about it.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Like it really gets into your head when you've been
- 5:49Speaker 1: on it for a long time. But there's so much
- 5:50Speaker 1: talk about the pill being bad for you as well. Yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And I suppose a lot of people go, oh, once
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm married, like if I do fall pregnant, it might
- 5:57Speaker 1: not be planned, but I'm not going to freak out
- 5:59Speaker 1: as much about it.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 1: So after the pap smear, Nikki said that she spoke
- 6:02Speaker 1: to her doctor about wanting to freeze her eggs at
- 6:05Speaker 1: the end of the year once her cycle had settled down.
- 6:08Speaker 1: So the doctor said, well, we may as well run
- 6:10Speaker 1: some tests. And as a precaution, I'll get you to
- 6:12Speaker 1: do a pregnancy test. Let's listen to Nikki retell the
- 6:15Speaker 1: moment she found out she was pregnant.
- 6:18Speaker 5: She takes it. She goes, thank you. And she's like,
- 6:20Speaker 5: wait in the room. And then she comes back in
- 6:22Speaker 5: and she closes the door. And I just looked at
- 6:24Speaker 5: her and I was like, oh my God.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And she goes, okay, you're pregnant.
- 6:27Speaker 5: I can even imagine the way she said it. The blood,
- 6:30Speaker 5: just no joke, like rushed from my face. And I
- 6:33Speaker 5: was just like, sorry, what? She's like, yeah, you're pregnant.
- 6:39Speaker 1: God, listening to that, I felt the blood rush from
- 6:42Speaker 1: my own face. Like I could just imagine what that
- 6:45Speaker 1: moment would have been like. And she said she ended
- 6:48Speaker 1: up leaving the doctors in such a daze, so much
- 6:51Speaker 1: so that she actually left her scan referral forms at reception.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And on the way home, she called her husband, Ollie,
- 6:57Speaker 1: and said that she had news for him. And the
- 6:59Speaker 1: moment she came through the door, she burst into tears
- 7:02Speaker 1: and told him what had happened. I think a lot
- 7:04Speaker 1: of people might have been confused by this reaction because
- 7:07Speaker 1: you think, oh, well, they're married and They were talking
- 7:09Speaker 1: about potentially freezing their eggs. You know, they obviously want children,
- 7:14Speaker 1: but even when you have planned to have a baby,
- 7:17Speaker 1: like for example, when Dale, I decided, yes, we want
- 7:20Speaker 1: to have a baby. When I did that pregnancy test,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I was still freaked out. Like, oh my God, am
- 7:25Speaker 1: I actually ready for this? Like I completely have planned this.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Like this is the right timing we want. And still
- 7:30Speaker 1: you're just left with this really odd feeling because it
- 7:32Speaker 1: is such a huge responsibility. Yeah, well, I think it
- 7:35Speaker 1: was really brave for her to share all of this
- 7:37Speaker 1: because there's a lot of pressure on women to be
- 7:39Speaker 1: grateful when they fall pregnant, even if it's not something
- 7:42Speaker 1: that they've planned. I mean, again, with me, I was
- 7:46Speaker 1: open to falling pregnant. Like I wasn't on the pill anymore.
- 7:49Speaker 1: My partner and I were like, trying but not actively
- 7:52Speaker 1: trying and I knew you know you just know like
- 7:54Speaker 1: and I'd been feeling nauseous and I was like I've
- 7:57Speaker 1: got to go get the test like I and you
- 7:59Speaker 1: know I took the test by myself because I wanted
- 8:01Speaker 1: to do one of those surprises for my husband which
- 8:03Speaker 1: actually ended up going balls up anyway and I still
- 8:05Speaker 1: remember going to the supermarket and feeling like I was
- 8:08Speaker 1: like a teen mum buying the pregnancy test and having
- 8:11Speaker 1: to hide it from people and then just the shock
- 8:14Speaker 1: of like it was the first pregnancy test I've ever
- 8:16Speaker 1: opened and I'm like oh my god this is so
- 8:18Speaker 1: weird like I thought it was really funny because Nikki
- 8:21Speaker 1: referenced how she'd seen this really cool way that Laura
- 8:23Speaker 1: Henshaw had told Steph Clare Smith how she was pregnant,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but because her situation was so different, she didn't plan
- 8:29Speaker 1: anything like that. And I kind of love that she
- 8:31Speaker 1: didn't because one, it actually is so on brand for
- 8:36Speaker 1: Nikki to reveal her pregnancy in this way. Like they
- 8:38Speaker 1: even joked about it saying these stories just literally happened
- 8:41Speaker 1: for us for the podcast. Well, in terms of the
- 8:43Speaker 1: way she broke the news to Lucy, it was really
- 8:45Speaker 1: early on in her pregnancy. So She found out she
- 8:48Speaker 1: was pregnant at the doctor and she ended up having
- 8:51Speaker 1: to go back to work, but she didn't say anything
- 8:53Speaker 1: and she seemed really withdrawn. And Lucy was worried that
- 8:57Speaker 1: maybe something had gone wrong. She knew she was getting
- 8:59Speaker 1: a pap smear and she kind of left her. Over
- 9:00Speaker 1: the weekend, she was like, I'll leave her to it.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And Lucy said that Nikki was really quiet and she
- 9:06Speaker 1: was in this great mood because she'd hooked up with
- 9:08Speaker 1: this guy on the weekend and she drove up to
- 9:10Speaker 1: Nikki and Nikki jumped in her car and literally burst
- 9:14Speaker 1: out crying and And we're saying, oh, my God, something
- 9:16Speaker 1: terrible has happened. And Lucy was like, what? And then
- 9:20Speaker 1: when she told her she was pregnant, she's like, oh,
- 9:22Speaker 1: thank God. I thought your dog had died. I mean,
- 9:24Speaker 1: we can deal with this. Well, funnily enough, it turns
- 9:28Speaker 1: out that Lucy had a premonition about Nikki's pregnancy. So
- 9:32Speaker 1: they did an episode of Happy Hour where they brought
- 9:35Speaker 1: in a tarot reader. And based on the cards that
- 9:37Speaker 1: Nikki pulled out, she guessed Nikki was pregnant. And this
- 9:40Speaker 1: was before Nikki even knew that she was pregnant. How
- 9:43Speaker 1: about how Lucy said she was sitting on the toilet
- 9:46Speaker 1: and all of a sudden she got this urge to
- 9:47Speaker 1: confront Nikki about being pregnant and she said she ran
- 9:50Speaker 1: off the toilet with her pants down saying, you're pregnant.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And again, Nikki was like, I'm not because she thought
- 9:55Speaker 1: she wasn't pregnant. Do you think Lucy and Nikki were
- 9:58Speaker 1: nervous about putting this episode out? out? Because anytime you
- 10:01Speaker 1: touch on pregnancy, it is a difficult topic because as
- 10:04Speaker 1: you said, you have to be so grateful that you've
- 10:06Speaker 1: fallen pregnant and they weren't really talking about it in
- 10:10Speaker 1: the way we're so used to hearing women celebrate their pregnancies. Well,
- 10:14Speaker 1: that's why it resonated with a lot of people because
- 10:17Speaker 1: everyone's pregnancy stories are different. And sadly, there are a
- 10:20Speaker 1: lot of people that struggle with their fertility. And it's
- 10:23Speaker 1: great now that we have platforms where people can share
- 10:25Speaker 1: those stories. And I think that we should have space
- 10:28Speaker 1: for other people to share their stories about, you know,
- 10:31Speaker 1: feeling a bit uneasy about the fact that you've had
- 10:34Speaker 1: an unplanned pregnancy and being brave enough to actually put
- 10:38Speaker 1: that out on the record. Because, I mean, it's so
- 10:40Speaker 1: difficult when you are pregnant and you second guess everything
- 10:44Speaker 1: you say if you have a platform like a podcast
- 10:47Speaker 1: or if you have a following because, you know, you're
- 10:50Speaker 1: worried that your child may hear this and get upset.
- 10:53Speaker 1: So I think it was really brave and she would
- 10:56Speaker 1: have helped a lot of people by sharing how she felt. Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 1: and I feel like even the discussion around almost like
- 11:02Speaker 1: mourning your old life because you can tell that she's
- 11:04Speaker 1: freaking out because, as you said, she has this very
- 11:08Speaker 1: much party girl image. Having a baby is going to
- 11:10Speaker 1: change her life. a lot, whether she likes it or not.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So it kind of, you know, as someone who has
- 11:16Speaker 1: a baby now, I enjoyed listening to it because I
- 11:19Speaker 1: recall going through some of those thoughts like, fuck, what
- 11:21Speaker 1: am I going to do? Like, this is going to
- 11:23Speaker 1: be really different. And as you said, sometimes you just
- 11:26Speaker 1: want to hear the real discussions behind it. I think
- 11:28Speaker 1: one of the things that took me aback was finding
- 11:31Speaker 1: out just how far along Nikki is. So she's 20
- 11:34Speaker 1: weeks pregnant. She's due in February, which means that she's
- 11:37Speaker 1: going to be around 30 plus weeks pregnant at her
- 11:40Speaker 1: live shows. It's crazy how quickly other people's pregnancies go.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Like when you're not the person that's pregnant, you're like, wow,
- 11:47Speaker 1: that has really flown by. Yeah, I followed Beck Lomas
- 11:50Speaker 1: and she posted something about, oh, I'm giving birth in
- 11:53Speaker 1: eight weeks time. And I was like, what? You've only
- 11:55Speaker 1: just announced that you're pregnant, but when it's you. drags on.
- 11:59Speaker 4: And you're going to ask me what I make. I'm
- 12:01Speaker 4: not too comfortable saying what I make. No, that's fine.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Kayla Etzinas has given an insight into the depths of
- 12:08Speaker 1: her business empire. The fitness entrepreneur has long been touted
- 12:12Speaker 1: as one of Australia's richest influencers. And now we know why.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Funnily enough, this admission came during an interview on the
- 12:19Speaker 1: Get Ahead TikTok. For those not familiar with the account,
- 12:23Speaker 1: interviewers stop people on the street and ask them what
- 12:25Speaker 1: they do and how much money they make. Now, the
- 12:28Speaker 1: interviewer who spoke to Kayla really played up that he
- 12:31Speaker 1: didn't know who she was. I mean, it's fairly obvious
- 12:33Speaker 1: that he did. And she went along with it. Let's
- 12:36Speaker 1: take a listen to some of what she said. What
- 12:39Speaker 1: do you do?
- 12:39Speaker 5: How much do you make?
- 12:40Speaker 4: I am most known for the Sweat app, which is
- 12:42Speaker 4: a women's training app. I also have a dog app
- 12:44Speaker 4: called Dog It, which is a dog training app for dogs.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I have commercial real estate, things like petrol stations, medical centers,
- 12:51Speaker 4: residential stuff, and also getting into supplements as well. So
- 12:55Speaker 4: a lot of things.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Now, a lot of people in the comment section were
- 12:58Speaker 1: surprised that Kayla's empire was now so diversified. Were you surprised, Amy?
- 13:03Speaker 1: I actually wasn't because So For My Business has worked
- 13:06Speaker 1: with a company that was connected to Toby Pierce. And
- 13:08Speaker 1: I know he's got a lot of fingers in different
- 13:10Speaker 1: pies in terms of different businesses he works with. So
- 13:13Speaker 1: it doesn't surprise me that Kayla is also like that.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I mean, well, they haven't been together for a long time.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And I think the surprise from people comes from the
- 13:21Speaker 1: fact that Toby has always been kind of touted as
- 13:24Speaker 1: the brains behind the business. And there's this untrue rhetoric
- 13:27Speaker 1: that's been pushed that Kayla was just along for the
- 13:29Speaker 1: ride and the face of the company where it's clearly
- 13:32Speaker 1: not true. I think it also has a lot to
- 13:34Speaker 1: do with how Kayla has marketed herself until fairly recently,
- 13:38Speaker 1: because she's only just been doing podcast interviews on business podcasts.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And even then she still goes, Oh, I'm just a
- 13:46Speaker 1: personal trainer. Like that's my core business. No, you're actually
- 13:50Speaker 1: a businesswoman. I think it's only now that she's comfortable saying, yes,
- 13:53Speaker 1: I am a very successful businesswoman. Look at all of
- 13:55Speaker 1: these ventures I've got going. I think some of the
- 13:57Speaker 1: ventures would surprise people though, like the fact that she's
- 14:00Speaker 1: involved in commercial real estate because petrol stations and medical centers,
- 14:04Speaker 1: they don't sound that exciting compared to what she does
- 14:07Speaker 1: with sweat. Yeah, I think with fitness influencers, we expect
- 14:10Speaker 1: that they may get a supplement brand, which Kayla is
- 14:12Speaker 1: looking into, but active wear, a gym, like those sorts
- 14:17Speaker 1: of things we're not really expecting. But it just shows
- 14:19Speaker 1: that she's doing the right things with her money because,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I mean, we actually don't know how much she is worth.
- 14:26Speaker 1: She did rank at number 34 on the Australian Financial
- 14:29Speaker 1: Review's Young Rich List last year, just behind Margot Robbie,
- 14:33Speaker 1: with an estimated net worth of $ 165 million. But again,
- 14:37Speaker 1: those are just based on guesstimates. I think she would
- 14:40Speaker 1: be worth way more One thing I do like is
- 14:43Speaker 1: that Kayla didn't actually say how much she was worth
- 14:45Speaker 1: in this interview. She said she wasn't comfortable disclosing how
- 14:48Speaker 1: much she made. I love how those interviewers, they always
- 14:51Speaker 1: just happen to stumble across these extremely famous people. Oh,
- 14:55Speaker 1: what are you doing out walking, Kayla? Just as I've
- 14:58Speaker 1: got this shop perfectly set up to capture you.
- 15:02Speaker 3: I would be keeping that shit offline.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Lucy Jackson and Nikki Westcott have seemingly poked fun at
- 15:10Speaker 1: the feud between Jackie Alexander and Gabby Sullivan. Now, it's
- 15:14Speaker 1: not the first time the Wild Ones have commented on
- 15:17Speaker 1: the friendship bust up. At the start of the year,
- 15:19Speaker 1: they dropped on their podcast that two of their friends
- 15:22Speaker 1: had unfollowed each other after being competitive over their weddings.
- 15:25Speaker 1: This led to speculation that Jackie and Gabby's friendship was over.
- 15:29Speaker 1: which was confirmed last week. Now, Kate, can you tell
- 15:31Speaker 1: us more? So Lucy and Nikki uploaded this very amusing TikTok,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and in it they danced to Destiny's Child's Survivor with
- 15:39Speaker 1: text on the screen that said, the last standing best
- 15:41Speaker 1: friends on the internet. And they captioned the video, not
- 15:45Speaker 1: for the faint-hearted, hashtag no shade though, hashtag but for real. Now,
- 15:49Speaker 1: influencers were quick to comment. Katia Milan wrote, proud of
- 15:53Speaker 1: you guys, the OGs, while Indie Clinton added, you know,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I only found out last week you guys weren't twin sisters.
- 16:00Speaker 1: That comment got 1.5 thousand likes and Lucy replied, sorry, what?
- 16:05Speaker 1: And M Davies chimed in, ha ha ha ha ha.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Now a follower asked in the comments if they had
- 16:09Speaker 1: ever done a podcast about what is crucial for a
- 16:12Speaker 1: longstanding friendship and the girls replied, we just really like
- 16:15Speaker 1: each other. I can see why Indy Clinton might have
- 16:17Speaker 1: thought they were sisters because they do say it how
- 16:20Speaker 1: it is to each other. Yeah, they don't hold back.
- 16:22Speaker 1: They kind of look very similar too. Like when I
- 16:24Speaker 1: watched the TikTok, I was like, oh, okay, I can
- 16:26Speaker 1: see it. You know, dark hair, both very slim. I mean,
- 16:28Speaker 1: the fact that they have different last names kind of
- 16:30Speaker 1: gives it away. Well, they, you know, could be married
- 16:32Speaker 1: names that you never know. Now, Lucy backed up the
- 16:35Speaker 1: TikTok by sharing more of her thoughts on the topic.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to some of what she said.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Okay, guys, I have one thing to say. And that
- 16:44Speaker 3: is if me and my best friend were having a
- 16:47Speaker 3: falling out, let's say Nikki, for example, I would be
- 16:53Speaker 3: keeping that shit offline because she knows so much about me,
- 17:00Speaker 3: she could ruin my life in a matter of two seconds.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Done.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I'd be done.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Exiled.
- 17:07Speaker 3: And I also, like, love and respect her. So if
- 17:09Speaker 3: we ever did have a falling out, I'd definitely, like,
- 17:11Speaker 3: just be keeping it between her and I. But all
- 17:16Speaker 3: of these public best friend falling outs and stuff, I'm
- 17:20Speaker 3: just like, fuck, you guys are playing with fire. It's entertaining,
- 17:24Speaker 3: I guess, for everyone else, for sure. But I would be.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Fucking way too scared.
- 17:31Speaker 1: This just made me think about our friendship, Amy, because
- 17:34Speaker 1: we're best friends, you, me and Sophie. We're also sisters,
- 17:36Speaker 1: so I feel like there's an added safety net there.
- 17:39Speaker 1: But the fear I would have if we somehow had
- 17:42Speaker 1: some massive falling out and never spoke to each other again,
- 17:45Speaker 1: the dirt we have on each other, even from just
- 17:47Speaker 1: a personal level. Yeah, like are you really best friends
- 17:50Speaker 1: with somebody if you don't have information that could destroy
- 17:53Speaker 1: their life, really?
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So, I mean, people really are playing with fire. Now,
- 17:57Speaker 1: M Davies weighed in on Lucy's post. She wrote, Some
- 18:00Speaker 1: people need to take a leaf out of your book,
- 18:02Speaker 1: I reckon, CISO. It was quite interesting because someone added
- 18:06Speaker 1: a comment saying that public friendship feuds are now just
- 18:08Speaker 1: the norm. And rather than talking privately with friends about
- 18:11Speaker 1: the fallout, people are now seeking validation online from strangers.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And Lucy ended up responding to that comment with another TikTok.
- 18:19Speaker 1: And in the video, she conceded that influencers know what
- 18:22Speaker 1: they're doing when they publicize friendship bust-ups. Let's take a
- 18:25Speaker 1: listen to some of what she said.
- 18:27Speaker 3: People know that if they go online and share this stuff,
- 18:30Speaker 3: especially where there's another person involved that is in the
- 18:33Speaker 3: content community, you're going to gain a lot of traction.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Lucy then admitted that she thinks it's a content strategy
- 18:40Speaker 1: based on giving people what they want. Here's more of
- 18:43Speaker 1: what she said. The world we live.
- 18:45Speaker 3: In now, realistically, like the more that you share, and
- 18:50Speaker 3: especially when it's traumatic, like it's negative, like it's hardships, breakups,
- 18:56Speaker 3: friendship falling out, financial dramas, like those are the kinds
- 19:01Speaker 3: of things that you guys as the viewers and the
- 19:05Speaker 3: listeners and as the followers or like the subscribers or
- 19:10Speaker 3: whatever want to see and you want.
- 19:11Speaker 5: To hear about that stuff.
- 19:13Speaker 1: She then went on to say she understands why people
- 19:15Speaker 1: talk about it online. but she just personally couldn't do it.
- 19:18Speaker 1: She's got such a good point because it's like all
- 19:20Speaker 1: those American hype houses in the US. They create all
- 19:23Speaker 1: this fake drama in order to get new followers. Oh,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I think we're seeing it in Australia very much so
- 19:29Speaker 1: as well. Like it's not just American thing anymore. Everyone
- 19:32Speaker 1: knows to stay relevant online, you need to have drama
- 19:36Speaker 1: around you. I mean, look at Australia's biggest influencer, Tammy Hembrough.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Her life has been a series of dramatic events that
- 19:42Speaker 1: people love following along at home. And influencers are taking
- 19:47Speaker 1: note and they know that that's what we're interested in.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I mean, on our subs episode, we were talking about
- 19:51Speaker 1: how Katia Milan was saying that she's sick of having
- 19:54Speaker 1: to try and perform and work with TikTok's algorithm. And
- 19:58Speaker 1: when it comes to content creation, she said that she
- 20:00Speaker 1: just likes sharing her life organically online. She had the
- 20:03Speaker 1: best opportunity to get eyeballs on her content when she
- 20:06Speaker 1: had a friendship bust up with her podcast co-host and
- 20:09Speaker 1: former best friend Ashton Wood. She needed to take the
- 20:11Speaker 1: opportunity with both hands. Early on when we released our podcast,
- 20:15Speaker 1: we had beef with another podcast. I remember we were
- 20:17Speaker 1: freaking out being like, I just don't want to be
- 20:19Speaker 1: involved in this. And our younger cousin was like, no,
- 20:22Speaker 1: this is the best thing ever. This is what happens.
- 20:24Speaker 1: People have beef and then they find your podcast and
- 20:26Speaker 1: then they're going to like it. I mean, obviously our
- 20:29Speaker 1: podcast was small at the time and that is a
- 20:31Speaker 1: way to generate eyeballs towards you. But it is interesting
- 20:35Speaker 1: when there's two influencers say, Jackie Alexander and Gabby Sullivan,
- 20:38Speaker 1: who have an equal kind of standing in the influencer space.
- 20:41Speaker 1: They've got a similar amount of followers on Instagram and TikTok. And,
- 20:45Speaker 1: you know, you look at them and you're like, oh, well,
- 20:46Speaker 1: they don't really need the extra followers, but they do
- 20:50Speaker 1: need the engagement because they're now competing with these algorithms.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And in order to get your content viewed, you have
- 20:56Speaker 1: to have a lot of comments on videos. You have
- 20:57Speaker 1: to have a lot of likes, a lot of send-ons.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I mean, you can see it. Jackie Alexander made that
- 21:02Speaker 1: TikTok where she threw shade at Gabby Sullivan. That got
- 21:05Speaker 1: everyone talking. Gabby Sullivan's gone back and done her own one.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And then every video that Jackie has subsequently shared, people
- 21:11Speaker 1: are like, give us the tea. We want to know more.
- 21:13Speaker 1: You know, you stoke the flames and you build that
- 21:15Speaker 1: interest in what's going on in your life. When I
- 21:18Speaker 1: was watching Lucy's video, I was thinking to myself, is
- 21:21Speaker 1: she going to address the elephant in the room? Because
- 21:23Speaker 1: she called out her ex-boyfriend publicly on TikTok for cheating
- 21:27Speaker 1: on her. Well, it was kind of two elephants in
- 21:29Speaker 1: the room because she also had a friendship fall out
- 21:31Speaker 1: with fellow influencer Lily Browne. Yes, they weren't best friends,
- 21:34Speaker 1: but they were in a friendship circle together. And I'm glad.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Hats off to her. She explained in terms of the
- 21:40Speaker 1: ex that she's an oversharer. And in that situation, she
- 21:44Speaker 1: decided that she was going to use it as content
- 21:46Speaker 1: because she knew that they were never getting back together.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And she also revealed that it ended up working very
- 21:52Speaker 1: well as a content piece because her breakup episode is
- 21:55Speaker 1: still her and Nikki's highest downloaded episode by a mile,
- 21:59Speaker 1: she said. In terms of her friendship breakdown with Lily Brown,
- 22:02Speaker 1: this is what she said.
- 22:03Speaker 3: I've had a falling out with a friend online. You know,
- 22:06Speaker 3: Nikki and I had a falling out with Lil a
- 22:08Speaker 3: few years ago. And like Nikki and I made a very,
- 22:12Speaker 3: very strong decision that we weren't going to speak about that.
- 22:15Speaker 3: And if we were, it was going to be only
- 22:17Speaker 3: very matter of fact. And just pretty much we were
- 22:20Speaker 3: never going to go on and say nasty things about
- 22:23Speaker 3: our old friend. And thank gosh, because now years down
- 22:27Speaker 3: the track, it's less left space for us to you know,
- 22:30Speaker 3: reconcile and still be really friendly. And now it's so
- 22:33Speaker 3: nice because we get to be at the same places
- 22:35Speaker 3: and still, you know, love seeing her, happy days.
- 22:38Speaker 1: It's not like burnt bridges, burnt bridges, burnt bridges, burnt bridges.
- 22:42Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I don't know. It is a weird time, guys. It's
- 22:46Speaker 3: very Black Mirror. Sometimes, like, I think the world of
- 22:50Speaker 3: social media and content creation can kind of be a
- 22:53Speaker 3: little bit like reality TV, how there's, like, producers who
- 22:57Speaker 3: go in and, like, I don't think there's fake drama
- 23:00Speaker 3: per se. Like I don't think there's anything that isn't
- 23:02Speaker 3: actually factual drama, but I think there's a lot of
- 23:06Speaker 3: things that then become bigger dramas because it gains views
- 23:10Speaker 3: and traction and.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Follows and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It's interesting that
- 23:14Speaker 1: they're putting this content out there now because I thought
- 23:16Speaker 1: that they were both friends with Jackie and Gabby. Yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 1: I was wondering how deep their friendship was because I've
- 23:21Speaker 1: seen it bandied around, oh, you know, they're friends. I
- 23:24Speaker 1: did some research and I know that Jackie appeared on
- 23:26Speaker 1: an episode of the Happy Hour podcast back in 2020
- 23:29Speaker 1: and I listened to a little bit of it and
- 23:30Speaker 1: it seemed like they were kind of friends in the
- 23:32Speaker 1: sense of they've been to events together, they know of
- 23:35Speaker 1: each other, they follow each other. But I don't think
- 23:37Speaker 1: it's that deep. Let's get into our Friday debrief. And Amy,
- 23:41Speaker 1: we are in late September, which means it's officially time
- 23:44Speaker 1: to start celebrating Christmas. Cotton On's Christmas campaign has been
- 23:48Speaker 1: out for a couple of weeks now. I can't believe
- 23:50Speaker 1: we didn't even talk about it. Martha Kalafatidis' family are
- 23:52Speaker 1: the face of it this year. Yeah, because last year
- 23:54Speaker 1: it was Indy Clinton and her family. I actually liked
- 23:57Speaker 1: Indy's range better. Like we bought them, we rushed out.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I'm not a big fan of them this year. I
- 24:01Speaker 1: just don't think you can start celebrating Christmas until Halloween's over.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And I've been trying to encourage you and Sophie to
- 24:07Speaker 1: go and get your Halloween costumes organized because I want
- 24:09Speaker 1: to have a small party here. Look, I'm not going
- 24:10Speaker 1: to put my tree up until November, but I am
- 24:12Speaker 1: going to get excited about it. And I've already started
- 24:14Speaker 1: planning Jack's December 1st box. I thought you were the
- 24:17Speaker 1: biggest saddo last year making this box and you were
- 24:20Speaker 1: part of some Facebook group with all these mums talking
- 24:23Speaker 1: about Christmas. That's the best group. Yeah, I did join it.
- 24:26Speaker 1: But now I'm totally into it. I'm trying to think,
- 24:28Speaker 1: what am I going to put in Harry's box? It's
- 24:30Speaker 1: so much fun. And something arrived for the box that
- 24:32Speaker 1: I was so excited about. So our parents always read
- 24:36Speaker 1: us this particular Night Before Christmas book. And it's so cute.
- 24:39Speaker 1: It's like a lift the flap book. And at the end,
- 24:41Speaker 1: it has a pop-up of Santa in his sleigh with
- 24:44Speaker 1: all of the reindeers. And I had to search far
- 24:46Speaker 1: and wide online for this. Someone was selling the book
- 24:49Speaker 1: for $ 500 and I was like, I am not paying $ 500.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I then found it on eBay for like seven US dollars. Anyway,
- 24:56Speaker 1: after all the conversions and postage, it cost me like $ 38.
- 24:59Speaker 1: It took four weeks to get here. When it arrived,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I was like, oh my God, I'm so excited. But
- 25:05Speaker 1: I was nervous because it said like in good condition.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I mean, this book is 30 years old and I
- 25:09Speaker 1: was flipping through the pages and I was so smug.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I was like, oh my God, the lift, the flaps
- 25:14Speaker 1: are perfect mint condition. I got to the last page
- 25:17Speaker 1: and opened it no pop-up it's just been completely ripped
- 25:21Speaker 1: out you sent me this snapchat it was just like
- 25:23Speaker 1: two empty white pages like this is arguably the best
- 25:26Speaker 1: part of the book this is the whole storyline is
- 25:29Speaker 1: building up to this pop-up of santa's sleigh and it's
- 25:32Speaker 1: just gone like i would have complained have you messaged
- 25:35Speaker 1: the person on ebay no i haven't yet but i
- 25:38Speaker 1: thought maybe some outspoken listeners could help me because i'm
- 25:41Speaker 1: like i'm just gonna add my own pop-up at the
- 25:44Speaker 1: end page shit We need to take a photo and
- 25:46Speaker 1: put it on Instagram, what the actual pop-up should look like,
- 25:49Speaker 1: because this is the most disappointing thing ever. Yeah. Talking
- 25:52Speaker 1: about Christmas books, this is a recommendation for parents as
- 25:55Speaker 1: well as big kids at heart, because before I had Harry,
- 25:58Speaker 1: I actually bought a book from the comedians behind Auntie Donna.
- 26:02Speaker 1: So they've got a book called Always Room for Christmas Pud,
- 26:05Speaker 1: and it was after that viral video they did of
- 26:07Speaker 1: them eating Christmas pudding and vomiting. It is The best book.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I find myself reading it every night to Harry. I
- 26:13Speaker 1: don't have it. Oh, it's so beautifully illustrated. I have
- 26:17Speaker 1: a Christmas put. Oh, maybe a little bit of put then.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I'm coming to you with a recommendation this Friday, and
- 26:24Speaker 1: it is to watch Sophie Jane Miller's Hindu retreat vlog.
- 26:29Speaker 1: This is the craziest thing that's.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Happened to me.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So she is a Brisbane influencer, and Amy, I think... Sophie,
- 26:37Speaker 1: along with her friends, Rachel and Georgia, are your number
- 26:41Speaker 1: one influencers to follow up with. You love their vlogs.
- 26:43Speaker 1: They're my relaxing people to watch. Your comfort YouTubers. Yes,
- 26:46Speaker 1: my comfort YouTubers. That's a great term. They definitely are.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And I enjoyed every minute of this 27-minute vlog. So
- 26:53Speaker 1: Sophie obviously took viewers along for her hen's party and
- 26:57Speaker 1: her friends went above and beyond. Oh, they pulled their
- 26:59Speaker 1: fingers out, didn't they? They were away for like two
- 27:02Speaker 1: nights at this absolutely incredible place accommodation. There was like
- 27:06Speaker 1: a pool, a sauna, a gym. And the theme was
- 27:09Speaker 1: a brand event. Well, it was called Tripping with Soph
- 27:11Speaker 1: and Georgia Richards and her dad made all of the merch,
- 27:15Speaker 1: the t-shirts. They even branded up water bottles. I loved
- 27:18Speaker 1: the logo. It was really cool. Well, Sophie's friend, Rachel,
- 27:21Speaker 1: she was a real MVP on this trip because her
- 27:24Speaker 1: and Sophie's manager, Lang, they did all the groundwork, putting
- 27:27Speaker 1: most of the stuff together. Like it was absolutely incredible.
- 27:30Speaker 1: They even had cameras that had specific decals on them
- 27:34Speaker 1: that had tripping with soap. Like they had to peel
- 27:36Speaker 1: it off. They had to individually cut out all these stickers.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Thank God they had one of those cricket machines. Well,
- 27:41Speaker 1: not to mention the fact that they obviously set up
- 27:43Speaker 1: a lot of brand deals because everyone on the trip
- 27:46Speaker 1: got new Lululemons. And Sophie's recently been working with the brand.
- 27:49Speaker 1: It was pretty clever because the whole thing really was
- 27:51Speaker 1: like an influencer event. They had yoga in the morning.
- 27:54Speaker 1: They had all these different events on at the hens
- 27:58Speaker 1: do that required them to be wearing different clothing. And
- 28:00Speaker 1: I wonder if we're going to see more of this
- 28:02Speaker 1: where brands just piggyback on the back of people's hens parties.
- 28:05Speaker 1: It did make it feel a lot more organic. I mean,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it would be interesting to know how they actually use
- 28:10Speaker 1: the partnership money. Like does Sophie get paid it or
- 28:13Speaker 1: did they put the money towards the trip? I think
- 28:16Speaker 1: it was gifted stuff. I think it was all gifted.
- 28:18Speaker 1: My favorite part of the vlog though was when Sophie
- 28:20Speaker 1: gave viewers a bit of a reality check and basically said,
- 28:23Speaker 1: She got a bit of IBS at the end of
- 28:25Speaker 1: the night. And I like that she shared that because
- 28:29Speaker 1: it kind of made it a bit more real because
- 28:31Speaker 1: everything was so glamorous. It made me feel nostalgic watching
- 28:35Speaker 1: it back because my hens party was nearly three years
- 28:37Speaker 1: ago now, if you can believe that. It just made
- 28:40Speaker 1: me wish I'd gone away. Soph and I were both saying, oh,
- 28:42Speaker 1: we wish we'd gone away for our hens rather than
- 28:44Speaker 1: just doing a one night thing. Well, I went away
- 28:46Speaker 1: for mine and it was really good. And I think
- 28:47Speaker 1: that's why you guys were like, oh, we feel like
- 28:49Speaker 1: we're asking too much of people. But Everyone wants an
- 28:52Speaker 1: excuse to go on a girl's trip. Well, after seeing
- 28:54Speaker 1: this vlog, I was like, wow, we really weren't asking
- 28:56Speaker 1: that much of our friends to come along for one
- 28:59Speaker 1: night somewhere.
- 28:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:00Speaker 1: All I just wanted to know was like, how much
- 29:02Speaker 1: should everyone chip in? Because that house was incredible. Well,
- 29:06Speaker 1: that could have been sponsored too. Lang, if you are
- 29:07Speaker 1: listening to the podcast, this is the girls manager. Let
- 29:10Speaker 1: us know. We're very nosy. Also, I just wonder how
- 29:13Speaker 1: it works because as we said, Sophie Jane Miller already
- 29:16Speaker 1: has a longstanding partnership with Lululemon. So her manager and
- 29:20Speaker 1: her friends going, oh, can you give us some free
- 29:22Speaker 1: Align tights to wear on the trip? And then Sophie's
- 29:26Speaker 1: going to feature them in her vlog. Does Sophie then
- 29:28Speaker 1: be like, well, usually I'd get a bit of a
- 29:29Speaker 1: kickback for that or is she just happy to go?
- 29:31Speaker 1: Like I just wonder how that all works. Yeah. Well,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I think because it's a longstanding partnership, it works in
- 29:36Speaker 1: everyone's favor. Yeah. Well, that is where we're going to
- 29:39Speaker 1: leave things today. If you do want to hear more
- 29:41Speaker 1: from us, we drop a subscriber only episode every Thursday.
- 29:45Speaker 1: This week, we spoke about how Molly May has been
- 29:49Speaker 1: absolutely copying it over the fact that her docu-series was
- 29:52Speaker 1: awarded the best authored documentary in the UK. We also
- 29:57Speaker 1: had a bit more Love Island goss. We were talking
- 29:58Speaker 1: about Millie and Liam from Series 7, their big breakup
- 30:02Speaker 1: or rumoured breakup, I should say. People are really worried
- 30:05Speaker 1: about what's going to happen to their podcast. You included, Amy,
- 30:07Speaker 1: because you're a big fan of it. It's a huge
- 30:10Speaker 1: podcast in the UK. And we also spoke about how
- 30:13Speaker 1: Cartier Milan is fed up with the influencer space. She
- 30:16Speaker 1: feels like everyone is asking too much of her. We
- 30:18Speaker 1: really got into that one.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Didn't we, Amy?
- 30:19Speaker 1: That was a good topic. Yeah, make sure you go
- 30:22Speaker 1: listen to that if you're a subscriber or... If you're
- 30:24Speaker 1: looking for more content, please feel free to sign up. Yeah,
- 30:26Speaker 1: Outspoken Plus is now available on Apple and Spotify. It's
- 30:29Speaker 1: all integrated into your feed, so very easy to listen to.
- 30:33Speaker 1: This podcast was recorded on the traditional land of the
- 30:35Speaker 1: Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to
- 30:38Speaker 1: elders past and present.
