- 0:26Welcome inside the treehouse, but this is treehouse US, which means you are
- 0:33deeper inside the treehouse. Thank you for your five dollars. We appreciate it.
- 0:44Normally the treehouse is full of stupid. But I think we've we've been
- 0:50presented with a challenge today and I feel good about it. The challenge is,
- 0:57can we make Tray feel better? Can we take an almost fifty year
- 1:03old AA RP carrying man, single man suffering from anxiety, depression and a
- 1:17general malaise, if you will, can we make him feel better? Tray?
- 1:23I think it's important that we start this episode with me asking the age
- 1:26old question. Okay, no, but you did just make me laugh though,
- 1:33because you know I when you did the tray you know aa arp,
- 1:37I'm like, and I guess the tray aa a a ARP. I was
- 1:42gonna say, it's the same thing. When we're on the same page,
- 1:46I was gonna say the same thing was I thought you were just putting it
- 1:48out there off the jump it's like tray aa And I was like, okay,
- 1:51well that was a weird way to start it. And then you hit
- 1:55the RP and I'm like, okay, he didn't say the other part and
- 1:57then traded it for us, Like you know one of those doctors that have
- 2:00a bunch of letters after their names. It's just an abbreviation for fuck up
- 2:06and old. Yeah. I think if if I if I went to your
- 2:10office building and I'm walking into Trey Trenholm, Comma A A A A A
- 2:19r P. Yeah, I'm gonna look around to see if there's a different
- 2:23door, Maybe someone with with a few less letters, Maybe something with like
- 2:30a with a a picture of a of a sunny sky in the ceiling tile,
- 2:36just anything other than A A A A A r P after Trey Trenholm.
- 2:43So Alcoholics Anonymous Association of Retired People and Anxiety. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:53I I just figure there's somebody that's in A A and A ar P,
- 2:59Like that's the guy I want to advice from. I thought, I thought
- 3:02the thing that was gonna make Trey feel better is the fact that he is
- 3:06in a ARP. Therefore he's got the discounts to look forward to. It's
- 3:10what keeps him going, gets those early birds specials, that really gets him
- 3:15out of bed in the morning. I'm telling you, it's uh, I
- 3:17want to I want somebody that's an AA and AARP to be like, hey,
- 3:22here's the deal man. Don't don't over drink this, but if you
- 3:25do, here's the best place to sleep. This is the best bar bathroom
- 3:32to sleep it. Hey, I would say wedding for the AARP member.
- 3:42The best prescription drug plan I've I've had, Like, yeah, it's a
- 3:49it's better than anything. So if you want cheaper prescription drugs, it's like
- 3:53automatic twenty percent off. Yeah. But I mean, like I had,
- 3:57like it's like gold gold r X or whatever. I had the same thing.
- 4:00Yeah, and uh, it wasn't bad, but the art things better.
- 4:04Yeah. I think it's twenty percent off of like the lowest price they
- 4:09can get on like good RX. And then they not another twenty percent.
- 4:12It's fantastic. And then and you know, I knew it was I knew
- 4:15I was getting old. Like I've said this before. I was. I
- 4:18saw the magazine and Luke Perry was on it. Uh, and I was
- 4:24like, yeah, making AARP cool. Yeah, I was like, we
- 4:28I'm old. Buddy Dylan's on the cover of AARB magazine. Yeah, but
- 4:33funny funny interestingly enough, Brandon's not I know, and Andre could have been
- 4:40on it when she started the show. Yeah, I think she was an
- 4:46ARP member as she was playing a high school student. I think you're right.
- 4:48She was four years younger than the Walsh dad. I mean, but
- 4:55yeah, well that is one positive with our generation is we're fucking agent better
- 5:00than that's trade. Fifty years old. He was Wilford Brimley and flow from
- 5:04Alice. It really is an interesting time to be alive. Uh and and
- 5:14and because of that, like I said, and I'm serious when I say,
- 5:18I want to see if there's something we can do to make you feel
- 5:21better. And I don't know if that's even possible. Maybe just talking about
- 5:25some stuff, will you know, will just ease your conscience or your your
- 5:30your physical self. I don't. I don't know because for those of you,
- 5:33because I don't know how it works, Like how does it work?
- 5:38Like what is your brain telling you? Like I don't. I have anxiety,
- 5:41so I know my brain tells me I'm dying. That's what that does.
- 5:45Depression, I don't know how that works. I'll start with this.
- 5:51Uh. I vividly remember my first episode of depression. I was ten years
- 5:57old. I was in fifth grade at the sitting in the back of the
- 6:00classroom. I couldn't verbalize now, but I bet I called it, you
- 6:06know, later on, I call it the overwhelming wave of sadness. And
- 6:13you said no, I said later on, later when I could, when
- 6:16I could articulate it. Oh yeah, I just imagine the note home to
- 6:24your mom from the teacher is very eloquent, also sad. There's a little
- 6:30he's a little dark, but he's got a great vocabulary. He's gonna be
- 6:33a gifted writer, terrible drunk, gifted writer. But are all gifted writers
- 6:40terrible drugs like that. That's Stephen King drunk hit by a car. So
- 6:47that's a special talent. H And So I say this, and and and
- 6:54it's not part of it is childhood influences and everything else, but and and
- 7:01this sounds really dramatic to say, and and it, but it's it is
- 7:08the truth, which is I doubt there has been a day that has gone
- 7:12by since I was ten years old that I did not think of either killing
- 7:15myself or just my demise. Really every day every day. Wow, Okay,
- 7:23And over the last couple of weeks, it's just it's gotten bad.
- 7:29Okay, yeah, I Yeah. My heart goes out to you because I
- 7:33don't know how. That's one of those things where you friends and family,
- 7:40kid doing anything about it, right, I mean like even words of wisdom
- 7:43or reassurance or none of that would work. Right. That's so if it
- 7:48did, then this wouldn't be the problem that it is in the world.
- 7:54You know, it doesn't hurt. Yeah, to try no listen, it
- 8:00was I can. I confided this and Dan, you know, with Dan
- 8:03yesterday, and it's the first person I had I had vocalize it, to
- 8:11verbalize it, whatever you want to say, and and and it was it
- 8:13was helpful. It's it probably has started with I feel like Roy Firestone on
- 8:33ESPN, I was wondering, who's break attention? Because sorry, I got
- 8:43it. I got it. What a great reference. Thank you, You're
- 8:56welcome. That's why we do this. And I'd like to go ahead check
- 9:00off the box that it would that this is at least help me, or
- 9:03actually, maybe I shouldn't check the box that it's helping. I should check
- 9:07the box Underneathan says, well, it's not hurting. So yeah, it
- 9:11probably started a couple of weeks ago when i've i've I've started noticing, you
- 9:16know, uh days he's getting older. Yeah, h and m h it's
- 9:39yeah, I'm sorry, it's okay. Is it a combination of things or
- 9:52it was like the thinking about one of the biggest things that that hit me
- 9:56is daisies old. I said, my mom's old, My mom's old.
- 10:03Oh the family I got. Yeah, Well, if I can be so
- 10:09bold, that's not the only family. Yeah, I'm younger than you,
- 10:18so the odds are in my favor that I'll be around long after you're gone.
- 10:24How is that reassuring? That's great for you. No, it's reassuring
- 10:30me because because about his demise has me thinking about Trade's demise, and it
- 10:35also has to be thinking about my demise. Moment, that was very complimentary.
- 10:43You should never be a therapist. Yeah, there's a reason why there
- 10:46are no letters. So long after you i'm no longer by client, I'll
- 10:52still be here. I'll still be charging you. Uh No, And in
- 10:58in somewhat seriousness, I mean that, Yeah, I realized that's that's your
- 11:03only family on paper, But there are there are other family members in your
- 11:09life, and that's not always an apparent thing. It's not always every day
- 11:20type of thing. Yeah, because I'm twenty two hundred miles away. It's
- 11:24not like I can, you know, jump through your front door with a
- 11:28battering ram and give you a hug that you reluctantly accept. I can,
- 11:35Yeah, I mean, I'm not going to kick in your door. I'm
- 11:37assuming you live in a white neighborhood. So I'm just gonna I'm gonna poltelykno,
- 11:41he's he's he's yeah, he's he's he's white adjacent. Okay, don't
- 11:46worry. We know plenty of police officers that will help you kick in Trey's
- 11:50door. Yes, I want I want their help. I don't want them
- 11:52to show up as I'm doing it. So anyway, everyone's getting old year
- 11:58old dog is all yeah, and it's just it it just I think that
- 12:01is what just started. And and sometimes it is just one of those things
- 12:07that it it starts small and then it just snowballs and then it's it's just
- 12:13uh and you know, honestly, then it just it's like everything and and
- 12:20so then that leads to wow, I've made really bad decisions in my life,
- 12:26and I'm you know, it just just all of a sudden and it's
- 12:30like fuck y, and you know, and then that's what it's like and
- 12:39then it just starts of you know, ah, the real morose just of
- 12:48you know, it's probably a very sound and logical thing that you know at
- 12:54the very latest, you know, seventy five that I just killed myself because
- 12:58I'm I'm gonna be alone and uh, I figure I have like one more
- 13:05round of dogs left, and then I don't. I then I started thinking
- 13:09about the anxiety of you know, what age do you start waking up if
- 13:13you're alone, and then you you know, you worry that something could happen,
- 13:16and then you're gonna you know, no one's gonna find you for days.
- 13:18See, that's in my anxiety. That's when I that's my that's in
- 13:22my panic attacks. That's and then I think by myself, yeah that was
- 13:24my panic attacks. I'm like, they're gonna find me here. And then
- 13:28it was just crazy. I mean, crazy shit starts going through your head
- 13:31like I wouldn't and this is no bullshit. When I was telling them because
- 13:33that I would get them back to back, so I had that the rare
- 13:37uh this is before I started therapy, like I would get them because they
- 13:41last about twenty minutes, so I'd get them for twenty minutes and it would
- 13:43stop for about four minutes and I'm like, oh my attack, okay,
- 13:48yeah, and then it would start again and it would be all day long.
- 13:50So I would dress and I don't know if you've done this before,
- 13:54I would dress like if they find me, this is what I want to
- 13:56wear. What was like, are we talking like a suit or I just
- 14:03want to I just just know I I don't want to Jolas and I was
- 14:07like eight, I don't know if he just wanted to be comfortable. No,
- 14:11I just I would have like a nice you know, if I was
- 14:13living in California, it's a nice T shirt. And I would have my
- 14:18favorite blanket and I would have my jeans, I have my shoes on.
- 14:22Like this is like just because I'm I'm by myself and I'm in l A
- 14:26right, so everybody I know is here in Dallas, so you're not going
- 14:30to get to me in time. So I wanted to be like when they
- 14:33get me, like, oh, he looks great. That's like what that's
- 14:37in my head that I'm not even missing. I'm not even bullshiting in my
- 14:41head. I want to that's a good look. He's dressed well. As
- 14:46they're taking me out of the thing. So that happens to me. It's
- 14:50like, you know, I when when I was living by myself, I'm
- 14:52like, well that I don't I'm not gonna be able to call anybody,
- 14:56right because I'm I'm dead, So uh yeah, even dead I would be
- 15:01okay with. It's the what if you have a stroke and you can't move
- 15:05and you're stuck in bed for three days? That is the anxiety that just
- 15:09absolutely, you know, tears me up. Yeah, mine is uh yeah,
- 15:13mine's being dying alone? Was mine? Well, and that's you know
- 15:18that again, and that goes to the greater thing of just being alone and
- 15:22everything else. And so it's like yesterday, I'm like, I'm walking Daisy
- 15:28and then all of a sudden, I am just sitting on the curb in
- 15:30the middle of the street just sobbing and and and and really there's no catalyst
- 15:33or anything else. And then I go to work and then I get an
- 15:37anxiety attack and that lasts, you know, six hours, and I'm like,
- 15:41my brain is actively trying to kill me. And then I'm pretty sure
- 15:46that Meta is trying to kill me too, because for some reason, now
- 15:48in my algorithm, every fucking video I see is a goddamn police dog's funeral.
- 15:54Oh god, oh no, that's not right. Fucking Zuckerberg, man,
- 16:00jesus, did you post something somewhere like saying that meta or Facebook and
- 16:06Instagram are horrible? Did you? Did you say it out loud and your
- 16:10microphone picked it up. You can't say it out loud. You can't say
- 16:11it. We're all actually screwed. Now at this point, I'm probably gonna
- 16:14start getting him now. Yeah, that's a. Yeah, that's a.
- 16:21So there is there is a fix for that trade. What you have to
- 16:23do is you have to seek out opposite content porn. Yeah. So if
- 16:30you're getting too many police dog funeral stuff, which is let me go to
- 16:34pornhub, gut wrenching. You don't even need to go to pornhub, which
- 16:38is very difficult to do still in Texas, I think. So what you
- 16:41do is instead just go to your Instagram search and just just type in you
- 16:45know, uh, big ass titties, yeah, and just see what comes
- 16:48up and then click on some and then that way the algorithm thinks, oh,
- 16:52this is what he's looking for. Or it doesn't even have to be
- 16:55that. It can be cooking videos, just something besides the really sad stuff.
- 17:00I get a lot of Gordon Ramsey videos in between the dog funeral videos.
- 17:06Okay, yeah, you have to be careful because that's a The Gordon
- 17:11Ramsey thing is a double edged sword. On one hand, it could be
- 17:12fun and funny to watch him scream at people, uh for feeding him dog
- 17:17food. The downside is there's also the thing where people will send him ugly
- 17:22photos or photos of ugly food that then he criticizes. And some of those
- 17:26plates of food are so sad they may want you. They look like depression
- 17:30on a paper plate. I like that. That may not help them.
- 17:34I like the guy who they take the fast food too, and they're like,
- 17:37can you make something gourmet out of this? Wait? Which one that?
- 17:41So there's the New York deli guy or the Asian guy, the master
- 17:47chef, the Iron Chef. I can't think of his name, or deli
- 17:49guy, okay, because they also do that he was I think he was
- 17:53the original Iron chef. And I'm drawing a blank on his name. And
- 18:00he's amazing and his from only the strong. No, he's the chairman in
- 18:07my back and he does that same thing. The guy, will you know
- 18:11his kid will bring him like Chick fil A, and all of a sudden,
- 18:12yeah, thirty minutes later, you have this amazing five star meal and
- 18:17he's deep breaded the chicken and he's done. That's exactly what it always takes
- 18:19the Chick fil A off of it. What I'd like to see that guy
- 18:25do is take a plate full of tray, hand it to the chef and
- 18:29say, makes up the gourmet out of this bier ship. I did h
- 18:33when I can you just make a sandwich? Can you just make something that
- 18:42Panera would be happy to have on the menu. I'm just edible. I
- 18:48was tying these du when I went to my therapist, and I was,
- 18:53you know, it's harder to tell somebody like that's what your thoughts are,
- 18:56even though even though that's you know what I mean, even though they're a
- 19:00therapist and their license to listen to your ship. I did have my She
- 19:06was great, she was still as a dear friend. But when I was
- 19:08like, you know, I'm just worried about, you know, how they're
- 19:11gonna find me and all that, and she goes, and I couldn't dispute
- 19:15that she goes, what do you care? You'll be dead? And I
- 19:18go, yeah, but okay, yep, no, let's she fucking nailed
- 19:22it. Yeah, I mean like I can't do anything after the fact.
- 19:26That's like, that's true. And so that started to help the mindset for
- 19:30me. I'm like, Okay, fuck it, it's gonna happen, and
- 19:33uh yeah, I look good and I'm just gonna be right here and then
- 19:37that's it. That's it. And that's where I would say the where depression
- 19:45the problem is is yeah, and then your depression kicks in and said,
- 19:49fuck it, let's do it now, let's do it now. Yeah,
- 19:52I got it. That's what that's the difference, right, Yeah, Okay,
- 19:56that makes it. I mean you I don't understand tright you AA depression,
- 20:02anxiety. I don't know how you were not a comic or a novelist.
- 20:04I don't know how you. Tray went way worse. He did radio
- 20:08for about fifteen years. Yeah, entertainment. Okay, you're in entertainment for
- 20:15fifteen years. There you go. Being in radio RAJ at the level at
- 20:18which we were is very much like being a stand up comic and a novelist
- 20:22at the same time. Yeah, okay, then that's perfect. That makes
- 20:26sense. Now, like I'm just trying to get the uh, the understanding
- 20:30of the trend home. It makes so like, now you make so much
- 20:33sense to me, Like now I do want to come over and just give
- 20:34you a hug because now this makes so much more fucking sense. I'm like,
- 20:40I would see you like i would see you out and about and very
- 20:44well put together, and I'm like, that guy's got his ship together and
- 20:47everything, Like I would see it uptown Pub. You come in like to
- 20:48get some I think you guys trade it off like napkins and fucking footh surface
- 20:53stuff all the time. And so i'd see you there and he's i mean,
- 20:56always dressed really well, and I'm like, you know, got the
- 21:00g he's a GM here and he's got you know, when he had when
- 21:02you had drove all this stuff. And I'm like, man, that guy's
- 21:04got his ship together. And now I know you're a total fuck up.
- 21:07This is fantastic. Now we're gonna get along so much better. This is
- 21:14a mutual understanding, uh, mutual anxiety and mental mental health issues. It
- 21:21is it is a point of bonding for me. I would see trade uptown
- 21:23Pub and I'm like, this dude is knocking white privilege out the park.
- 21:26And he is killing the white privilege Gaate like he just and that's the thing.
- 21:32And then that's where you were wrong. It's it is actually self medicating.
- 21:34Yeah, but you know this is he wasn't drinking. He just would
- 21:37come in like they would, you know, hey, we ran out of
- 21:40this over there, can we grab this real quick? Or or he would
- 21:42bring something to them that they'd run out of. It was mostly kitchen stuff,
- 21:47but he'd walk in and he's, you know, dressed really well.
- 21:49You got the I would see like slacks and button down and all the all
- 21:53that jazz, and I was like, come in and they didn't. He
- 21:56didn't have to say a word. They knew who he was. There was
- 21:57the ship. He would stop and talk to me, make a little small
- 22:00talk, and then he was off doing the gym thing. And I'm like,
- 22:03that dude has it together. And today I've made a new a closer
- 22:10friend in Trey. We we've turned a new leaf. You are just a
- 22:15raging, fucking mess and this is great. Uh So why Embraceyly, We're
- 22:21gonna be such good friends. Now we'll go to ball games and cry together.
- 22:27I'm assuming you're in Kansas City watching a Royals game, Like yeah,
- 22:32oh yeah, and that was the fun, like the fact that you said
- 22:34that. When I went to do Kansas City last week to perform, they
- 22:38had me do Fox Morning TV or whatever, yep, and it was Opening
- 22:42Day and they're like, are you gonna join us at the Royals game?
- 22:45And on their TV, I went, well, you guys are gonna lose.
- 22:49I go, I'm from this pesky place where we just won the World
- 22:52Series, so we got to work on your PR skills when you go to
- 22:56They laughed and they went, oh, but it's true. They all agreed,
- 23:00like, but opening day is fun. I'm like, yeah, you'll
- 23:03be a dollar hot dogs tomorrow. Yeah. Everybody's full of everybody's full of
- 23:07hope on opening Day. Yeah. But no, like they'll see trying in
- 23:11the stands, like did your team lose? Like, no, we we
- 23:15won, then why are you crying? It's what we do. I feel
- 23:18like I feel like there's a Bosom Buddies reboot in here, but instead of
- 23:22it being in an apartment building that's only for women, it's had some sort
- 23:26of mental health crisis center that's not bad, Like this could be we need
- 23:30to write this down like two buddies out of work looking for somewhere to live
- 23:34for free, pretend to be and our friend ton Bell will be your doctor.
- 23:38There you go. We're gonna pitch this idea to Tone. I think
- 23:41we should. That's uh, let's at least let's at least make some money
- 23:45off you guys depression. Yeah, I mean we'll be you'll spend it because
- 23:48you'll still be alive when we're dead. Apparently, Why do you think I
- 23:51have such a good mood about it? All of a sudden, we're gonna
- 24:00get we're gonna get some email notifications from about legal zoom of your will is
- 24:04ready. Yeah, I learned a lot from the last really depressed person that
- 24:14didn't live very long and didn't didn't leave me any any of their stuff.
- 24:18Oh yeah, so I'm playing it ahead. No, yeah, that's uh.
- 24:22Yeah. You guys have training then, mostly r on the job,
- 24:29on the job training. Yeah, the I I do keep thinking about this
- 24:34though, Trey you're telling us, or Roj you're telling us about which one
- 24:37of you told U about the chef that takes the crap food and makes it
- 24:41gourmet? Me? Okay, he knew the he knew the name of the
- 24:44guy. Yeah, so you telling us about the gourmet chef that's handed fast
- 24:49food and has to turn something gourmet out of it. And then we say,
- 24:53okay, well, if this chef is handed a plate of Trey Trendholm,
- 24:57what can he do with this pile to make it gourmet? And the
- 25:02first thought in my head was, I swear to God he would turn Trey
- 25:06into an Italian grinder, because Trey said, I just want to be just
- 25:11just just just make me a sandwich, make me into a sandwich. Yeah,
