- 0:26into our study. Exodus chapter six.
- 0:30I've entitled the Bible study El Shaddai the all sufficient one
- 0:35as we learn of that name as God reveals himself to Moses.
- 0:40Moses first encounter, as we saw last time with Pharaoh was not
- 0:44very successful, at least not the way Moses had it planned
- 0:49out. You need to get used to this in
- 0:52your life, and I do as well, where what my plans might be.
- 0:56And my measurements of success don't always match up with God's
- 1:00measurements of success. So as we look at Moses last
- 1:04time, it seemed as if everything he did made things worse, and
- 1:10that could be concluding that it was a complete failure.
- 1:14But while things did get worse, God was fully in control and
- 1:20Moses was faithful. Instead of letting the children
- 1:24of Israel go, Pharaoh made it more difficult for them and
- 1:28increase their burdens. Not only that, as a result of
- 1:32the ministry of Moses in chapter 5, the people turned on him and
- 1:36got mad at him. They went so quickly from
- 1:39worship, as we saw, to murmuring.
- 1:41And Moses is faced with a choice When you're surrounded by this
- 1:45worship to murmuring and there's just so much pressure around
- 1:49you. Moses had a choice.
- 1:51Should I join in too? This is not what I wanted
- 1:55either. This isn't what I expected as he
- 1:58examines things with his own limbs, not with the eyes of
- 2:02faith, but with the eyes of pragmatism or the eyes of the
- 2:05flesh. It would have been easy to say
- 2:08hey, after things aren't working out the way I thought.
- 2:10This is exactly what I thought. This is why I told God I didn't
- 2:13want to serve, that I wasn't capable.
- 2:15I don't want any part of this. It would have been easy for him
- 2:18to cave into the pressure and find himself murmuring as well.
- 2:23But notice in chapter 5 and verse 22 we learned this.
- 2:27We spent a little bit of time on it last time.
- 2:29After the people turned against him, it says in verse 22, Moses
- 2:35returned to the Lord. Now he did have some hard things
- 2:40to say. Remember he said, Lord, why have
- 2:41you brought trouble on this people?
- 2:43Why is it that you've sent me? We can read all kinds of emotion
- 2:46into that, considering where he was.
- 2:48But whatever he said, it's good that he went to the Lord.
- 2:53And you can come to God with whatever's on your mind.
- 2:55You could cast what all your cares upon him, because he cares
- 2:59for you. You can come to him.
- 3:00Just come to him. Just return to him.
- 3:04In Psalm 61 and verse 3 David says you have been a shelter for
- 3:09me and a strong tower from the enemy.
- 3:13And how often I look my own life.
- 3:15How often I would have saved myself from embarrassment, from
- 3:18humiliation, or even from more discouragement if I would have
- 3:22just gone to the Lord first, I end up there eventually, but if
- 3:26I would have just gone back to the Lord first Moses was wise,
- 3:29Notice in verse one. Now in chapter 6, then the Lord
- 3:32said to Moses. Now you shall see what I will do
- 3:37to Pharaoh. For with a strong hand he will
- 3:40let them go, and with a strong hand he'll drive them out of his
- 3:46land. Let me just pause there for a
- 3:48second and repeat this for for all of us.
- 3:51He comes back to the Lord. He returns the Lord.
- 3:54He shares everything in his heart and hears God's answer to
- 3:56him. You know what, Moses?
- 3:57My word is going to come to pass.
- 4:00He's going to let you go. I know it doesn't seem that way
- 4:04right now. I know everything looks against
- 4:06what you think, but his answer was, you're going to see what
- 4:10I'm going to do. You're going to see it.
- 4:12Moses. Just hang with me.
- 4:16Just stay with me because you're going to see it.
- 4:19I love this because in his discouragement, what does God
- 4:23do? God encourages him, reminds him
- 4:27as a promise. You're going to see it, Moses.
- 4:29I I know. It's like the undertone.
- 4:31I know it doesn't look like it now, but you're going to see
- 4:33what I'm going to do to Pharaoh. I've already told you once, I'm
- 4:36telling you again, you're going to see it.
- 4:38Verse two God spoke to Moses and said, I am the Lord.
- 4:43I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty
- 4:49circle that word, that phrase God Almighty.
- 4:51This is El Shaddai, and you'll notice it is in comparison or in
- 4:56Compet, or in companionship to verse two.
- 4:59I am Yahweh, Jehovah Now, he says.
- 5:03I appear to Abraham, Isaac as El Shaddai, but by my name, Lord, I
- 5:08wasn't known to them. I have also established my
- 5:12covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan and the land
- 5:15of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers from
- 5:19discouragement is met with God's encouragement.
- 5:23And that's what you and I need. We need the word of the Lord and
- 5:25our discouragement. It's the reason why you're
- 5:28reading your Bible every day, why you have a habit of
- 5:31devotions, why you're in prayer every day.
- 5:33Why? Because when you come to the
- 5:34word of God, you're going to be encouraged.
- 5:36You're going to be reminded of His faithfulness.
- 5:39You're going to be reminded of how he has not allowed one of
- 5:42his words to fail. You're going to be reminded that
- 5:45he's brought you thus far. You're going to be reminded on
- 5:48any page. You can flip to any page and
- 5:50just be saying, oh Lord, you're so faithful, so faithful.
- 5:54I mean here I just flipped. I just flipped open in my Bible,
- 5:57Acts, chapter 10. Immediately he preached Christ
- 6:00in the synagogues that he was the Son of God.
- 6:02Then all who heard were amazed. Just the amazing work of God.
- 6:07I'm just looking at that. If I share the word of God, it
- 6:10will bring amazement. Just be faithful Moses, he says.
- 6:16Be sure of this. Pharaoh will let them go.
- 6:20Not only will he let them go, but he'll drive him out four
- 6:25times. In this section, God reminds
- 6:27Moses, I am the Lord. It's there in verse two.
- 6:31It'll be there in verse 6, verse seven and verse 8.
- 6:35He uses his covenant name, Jehovah 7 times and the Hebrew
- 6:41word here in verse 3. Now he adds and reminds Moses
- 6:46that he revealed himself as El Shaddai.
- 6:49This is used six different times in Genesis, 30 times in Job, and
- 6:57can be translated God the All Sufficient 1 or God the All
- 7:01Powerful one. And I found one in interesting
- 7:05Hebrew definition that you could also translate this Hebrew word,
- 7:10God the Nourisher. I thought that was interesting.
- 7:14That's worth a little bit of extra study, nourishing and
- 7:18taking care of you. In Genesis 17, God revealed
- 7:22himself to Abraham as El Shaddai.
- 7:25But now he's in this progressive revelation revealing himself as
- 7:29Yahweh. As we looked at the names of God
- 7:32before, it's a whole new chapter in their history.
- 7:36They'll be eyewitnesses of God in his delivering.
- 7:40They'll know him. God says he's telling Moses
- 7:42they're going to know me over the 3000 false gods.
- 7:47They're going to know me personally.
- 7:49They'll fulfill my covenant with them.
- 7:51Notice verse 5. And I have also heard the
- 7:54groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep
- 7:58in bondage. And I have remembered my
- 8:01covenant. Therefore say to the children of
- 8:04Israel, I am the Lord. I will bring you out from under
- 8:08the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their
- 8:12bondage. I will redeem you with an
- 8:15outstretched arm and with great judgments.
- 8:18I will take you as my people, and I will be your God.
- 8:24Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you
- 8:27out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
- 8:31And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to
- 8:34Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. I'll give it to you as a
- 8:37heritage. I am the Lord.
- 8:40So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel, but they
- 8:43would not heed Moses because of the anguish of spirit and the
- 8:47cruel bondage. Mark that verse 9 real quick
- 8:50because some of you are right here.
- 8:52Different reasons, same place. Anguish of spirit.
- 8:57Under the cruel bondage of sin. Under the cruel bondage of
- 9:02circumstance. Under the cruel bondage of a
- 9:05difficult home or a difficult boss or a just a difficult life.
- 9:09This is where they're at. But remember, we just read.
- 9:13It would be easy to gloss over and focus just on this verse 9.
- 9:17Just they won't listen. They're hard hearted, they're
- 9:20hurting. It's worse than it's ever been.
- 9:23But remember, remember what God said in verse five.
- 9:29I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel.
- 9:32God hears you. He hears you.
- 9:35He hears you on your bed at night.
- 9:39He hears you with your tears or some of you've cried so much
- 9:43you've run out of tears. And there is such a thing.
- 9:47He hears you when you feel alone and isolated.
- 9:50He hears you when you're confused or it's foggy and it's
- 9:54difficult. He hears you.
- 9:55Your help is not in another man. Your help is in not in more
- 10:00friendships. Your your hope is in not in any
- 10:03of the things that you might cling to, as if you could see
- 10:06something tangible in the midst of their anguage.
- 10:11God says, I hear them right where they're at.
- 10:15I meet them right there. They're going to see it.
- 10:18Moses, you're going to see it, but they're going to see it.
- 10:22And I love this. If you notice as we were reading
- 10:25through, you couldn't help but listen and hear.
- 10:27There are seven I wills that God tells him.
- 10:31Seven I wills notice. If you want to mark them with
- 10:34me, you want to come back to the text in verse 6.
- 10:37The first one is I will bring, and next to that you could
- 10:41write. God promises them salvation.
- 10:44I will bring you out. The next one is I will rescue,
- 10:48which God promises their liberation.
- 10:51The next one is I will redeem, which God promises their
- 10:54redemption. Verse 7.
- 10:56The next one is I will take you as my people.
- 10:59This is a beautiful one. This is the promise of adoption.
- 11:04This this is a group of people in English with no hope.
- 11:07They're upset with their deliverer.
- 11:09They're upset with God that they're under the heavy hand of
- 11:13the immediate difficulty. And what does God say to Moses?
- 11:16Here's what's happening. This is what's up ahead.
- 11:18They're going to be saved. They're going to be liberated.
- 11:21They're going to be redeemed. And I'm going to adopt them as
- 11:24my own kids. They're going to belong to me.
- 11:27They already do, but they're going to experience it.
- 11:29Notice the next one. It says, I will take you as my
- 11:33people. The next one, I will be your
- 11:36God. This is revelation.
- 11:38They're going to have a new revelation of who God is and how
- 11:42important he is. Notice the next one.
- 11:44He says in verse eight, I will bring you into the land which I
- 11:48swore to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- 11:51I will bring you. That's direction I'm going to
- 11:55deliver you. And then I'm going to take you
- 11:56and put you exactly where I want you.
- 11:59Which, by the way, is how the children of Israel ended up in
- 12:03Egypt. God brought them there,
- 12:06remember? He brought them there on
- 12:08purpose. Put them out there in Goshen so
- 12:11that they might multiply. And they are here, you can say
- 12:15by the will of God generationally for this time in
- 12:19this place. Not only that, notice at the end
- 12:21of verse 8. The next I will is I will give
- 12:24it to you as a heritage. This is provision case.
- 12:27You missed them all. Salvation, Liberation,
- 12:31redemption, adoption, revelation, direction,
- 12:36provision. And one thing.
- 12:39In a careful study, you'll notice that there isn't any
- 12:42conditions to be met here. There's there's no if you.
- 12:47If you do, then I will. You don't see if you before any
- 12:51of these. I will.
- 12:52I like that because this is all God working on behalf of men and
- 12:58women, and I want you to remember this church.
- 13:01It'll help you liberate you in your own worship life, in your
- 13:05own life. Following Christ in our worship,
- 13:09we worship what God has done in in our giving.
- 13:13We give in response to what God has done in our gathering, why
- 13:17we're here even now, why we're watching online or listening on
- 13:21the radio somewhere, or listening to some podcast or
- 13:24pull in some message from years ago.
- 13:25Why? It's in response to all that God
- 13:29has done, and the church seems, and perhaps a few believers
- 13:33along the way seem to have it all backwards.
- 13:36They have forgotten what God has done.
- 13:39His faithfulness. Churches today emphasize so much
- 13:43of what you must do for God. This is what you need to do.
- 13:47Do this. Don't do that.
- 13:49Here's the list. Here's the rituals.
- 13:51This is why you worship. Let's bring God down.
- 13:53And This is why you give. So you multiply and you forget
- 13:56completely. It's what God has done in your
- 14:00life. It's all in response.
- 14:03So consider us for a second. You're having a hard time in
- 14:06your worship life, let's just say in singing, because worship
- 14:08encompasses our entire life. But let's just use singing as a
- 14:11measurement. You go, well, I don't like to
- 14:13sing. That may be true, but have you
- 14:15ever considered that one of the reasons why you lack in your
- 14:19worship life is because you really don't understand all that
- 14:22God has done for you or you? You know, take this unto the
- 14:27Lord in your in your prayer closet, but maybe you just don't
- 14:29care. Maybe you're still a very
- 14:32self-sufficient person and you consider everything that you
- 14:36have and do is all you. And it's all your smarts and
- 14:39it's all your work and it's all your effort and it's all you,
- 14:43you, you. So you know there are no songs
- 14:45written for I worship me God, You know, nobody's singing that
- 14:49stuff. But maybe in your heart you are.
- 14:53You know, there's that song. It's all about you, Lord.
- 14:55Some of you sing that. It's all about me.
- 14:57God, you know it's not. It's what he has done.
- 15:01This is the essence of grace. This is what opens a channel of
- 15:05your of God's agape love overwhelming you when you
- 15:10remember. You know I don't want.
- 15:11I'm not going to forgive him. Really.
- 15:13Have you forgotten what God has forgiven you?
- 15:17Perhaps. Well, you know I'm not going to
- 15:20give. I have.
- 15:20I have no care. You know it's their fault.
- 15:22They're the ones. What?
- 15:23That's why they Have you forgotten God's salvation in
- 15:27your life? Have you forgotten you've been
- 15:31liberated from that bondage of sin?
- 15:34Have you forgotten? Is it?
- 15:35How long has it been since you've lived a life free of sin?
- 15:39And how you've gotten used to it now, because you've forgotten
- 15:42what a bondage it was. You've forgotten how heavy and
- 15:45all the consequences and all the you know, all the stuff that was
- 15:49in your head like you've forgotten.
- 15:50You've forgotten. Have you forgotten God revealing
- 15:53himself to you like you remember some of you were saved in this
- 15:57church, or in a church that you walked into as blind as blind
- 16:02could be. Literally, you could not see the
- 16:06goodness of God or understand God.
- 16:09You even tried to read the Bible.
- 16:10You couldn't understand it because you walked into a
- 16:13building similar to this. You were an alien, an enemy of
- 16:17God, and God opened your eyes. Have you forgotten that?
- 16:23Remember when you cried out to God you were in jail?
- 16:26Or you're facing some crime, or you're going through some
- 16:29difficulty and you were there all by yourself?
- 16:31God, if you Get Me Out of this, if you Get Me Out of this, I'll
- 16:35dedicate my life to following you all.
- 16:37And you did surrender your life to him.
- 16:39But then you started taking your life back because you.
- 16:41Why? You've forgotten the goodness of
- 16:43God and all that he has done and all that he's continuing to do.
- 16:47It's all grace. It doesn't just start in grace.
- 16:51It doesn't just keep you going for a couple of days.
- 16:53Starts in grace. You're kept by grace, and you're
- 16:56going to get through the finish line by grace.
- 16:59By his goodness, it's not a list.
- 17:02Although lists might help you remember things, you're not
- 17:04saved by keeping a list. You're not saved by all the acts
- 17:09and works that you present. The emphasis in the Bible is
- 17:13always what God has done. Always, not what we do.
- 17:20Let me show you. Turn over to Ephesians.
- 17:22I want to I want you to see this in Ephesians chapter one.
- 17:26I love this. This is God calling some of you
- 17:29back to your days where you remember what God has done, what
- 17:35God has done you. Some of you know by now that my
- 17:38pastor went home to be with the Lord a month and 1/2 or so ago,
- 17:42and I was contacted to put together a little video, just a
- 17:46couple few things to share at his memorial service.
- 17:49And how can you know, Even as I'm thinking about it day after
- 17:53day after day, just thinking about kind of my mind going back
- 17:56to the days 8 years I spent there and when I walked into
- 17:59that church and when I sat in the back and I didn't want
- 18:02anybody to hug and all the things we kind of laugh about
- 18:04now. But I walked into that church
- 18:06lost as lost could be. And I can't help but remember
- 18:11that I had tried to live my life.
- 18:13God said, go ahead Ed. Do whatever you want.
- 18:16Live your life. It's yours to live.
- 18:18You can live and part for me and rebellion or you can live for me
- 18:21whatever you want, like you do whatever you want.
- 18:23And that's what I did. And it led me to a life of great
- 18:26pain and anguish and difficulty and consequences and and you
- 18:30name it, it was horrific. Being in bondage to sin.
- 18:33How many anybody amends bondage to sin?
- 18:35You guys were, was it horrific? Yes.
- 18:37Hello. Anybody.
- 18:39It was horrific. Some of you guys did things and
- 18:41some of you guys said things and some of you guys, we thought we
- 18:44were just so lost and how can we not help but remember whatever
- 18:53God uses to bring to your remembrance.
- 18:56But how can we not help? How can we not but remember how
- 19:00gracious God was to invade our lives?
- 19:04It's a response to him. Notice in Ephesians chapter one.
- 19:08In Ephesians chapter one. You know, I was in that church.
- 19:11I learned how to read the Bible. I didn't.
- 19:13I knew how to read, but I don't know how to read the Bible.
- 19:15It was in that church I learned that I should memorize the
- 19:17Bible. And so it reminded me the very
- 19:19first verse I ever memorized was because my pastor told me I was
- 19:23like so eager. So, so just whatever whatever
- 19:25Pastor Jeff said, I did it. So I'm so glad that God brought
- 19:28me to that church and not some whacked out church because then
- 19:31I would be all whacked out and then I have to be UN whacked out
- 19:33to get back, right? So God brought me to the right
- 19:36place where the Bible was, where it needed to be.
- 19:38And and he he just told us that hey, you should memorize this.
- 19:40All right. How do you memorize?
- 19:43I don't. I don't have any idea.
- 19:44How do you memorize? Well, you write it down and you
- 19:46keep repeating it so you don't proverbs.
- 19:48Chapter 3, verses five and six. How would I not know?
- 19:51How would pastor jab. Now how would how would anybody
- 19:53know? That would be the verse that I
- 19:54would need to go back to a million times in my walk with
- 19:57the Lord. To trust in the Lord with all my
- 20:01heart and lean not on my own understanding, no matter how
- 20:04smart I get with the Bible. No matter how many notes are in
- 20:07here, how many highlighted verses or whatever, I need a
- 20:11trust in the Lord. I'm not going to lean on my
- 20:14understanding because it may be a different application today.
- 20:18I need to acknowledge him in all my ways and then he'll direct my
- 20:25path. I'll know where to go as I look
- 20:28to him and put Him first in my life.
- 20:30As I surrender my life to the one who searched me out.
- 20:35Sent people in my life, Knew what church I needed to be and
- 20:39knew what family I needed to be a part of.
- 20:41Knew what pastor was going to speak into my life.
- 20:44He knew. It's his initiation.
- 20:48He's the initiator. We're the responders.
- 20:50And I think I asked you to open somewhere, right?
- 20:52Ephesians, chapter one, verse three.
- 20:54Look at this. This is Paul overflowing when
- 20:57he's writing to the church in Ephesus.
- 20:59Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
- 21:03blessed us, marked this word with every spiritual blessing in
- 21:09the heavenly places in Christ. Just as He chose us in Him
- 21:15before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy
- 21:18and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to
- 21:22adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself according to what the
- 21:28good pleasure of His will not Your will.
- 21:32You and I, we are in our best place when our will is His will,
- 21:37and we're walking in unity with Him.
- 21:40Notice to the praise verse six of His of the glory of His grace
- 21:44which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.
- 21:49We've been blessed with every spiritual blessing.
- 21:51Church. Don't let these guys and pulpits
- 21:57that maybe you were in a church that taught like this, or you
- 22:00have some TV evangelist that you follow, or some new gal or guy
- 22:04on YouTube, or even on the radio in some of the stations around
- 22:08town. All you hear is you should, you
- 22:10should. You're not doing enough.
- 22:12You've got to do this. If you do this, then you'll move
- 22:15the hand of God. Look, God's hands already been
- 22:17moved, bro. It's already happened.
- 22:21You just need to follow his lead.
- 22:24Make yourself a place where you're right in the middle of
- 22:26his blessing. God's not going to use guilt to
- 22:31move you, to manipulate you, to get something from you.
- 22:36He's already giving you his all because he knows.
- 22:43He knows that in the proper response of all that God has
- 22:46done for you, we'll present ourselves living sacrifices
- 22:52wholly and acceptable to him, which is our reasonable service.
- 22:56He knows that the true emphasis of the gospel is what God has
- 23:00done for us. God doesn't come and go.
- 23:03OK. You, you, you you responded to
- 23:05me. Yes.
- 23:05You heard the message. Yes.
- 23:06You heard traveling evangelists come.
- 23:08Yes. OK, OK, Now you're ready to
- 23:10follow me? Yes.
- 23:11Circumcise yourself. No.
- 23:13No, no, no, no. Because God doesn't say that.
- 23:18That got settled in the early church, didn't it?
- 23:21It got settled that God has already done the circumcision
- 23:25for you, not of the physical outward, but of your heart.
- 23:30He's cut through your hard heart and given you a heart of flesh,
- 23:35some of you. It's a very dramatic change that
- 23:37you share with me, where all of a sudden now you just have more
- 23:42feelings than you've ever had in your life.
- 23:44That wasn't who you were. That's who you are, because God
- 23:47took out your heart of stone and replaced it with a heart of
- 23:51flesh. Only the Lord can do that.
- 23:55When you really grasp this, of how much God loves you, what God
- 23:59has done in sending his Son for you, the sacrifice the Son has
- 24:04made for you, that God has made a way in your life where there
- 24:07is no way. When you really grasp that, not
- 24:10out of guilt but out of grace, what are you going to hold back?
- 24:14What are you going to hold back from God?
- 24:21I notice Come back to Exodus. And that passage in Ephesians
- 24:24sounds a lot like this section of Exodus as God is telling me,
- 24:28you just and you you go tell them I'm going to take care of
- 24:31them. You tell them I'm God.
- 24:34I'm El Shaddai. I'm Yahweh.
- 24:36I'm Jehovah. Moses comes to him.
- 24:40Verse 9. Me.
- 24:41They're not listening to him because of the anguish of Spirit
- 24:44and cruel bondage, you know, oppression, discouragement, this
- 24:51anguish of spirit, this lack of peace.
- 24:55It has a way of causing you not to hear the word of God.
- 25:00It has a way of taking you away from hearing His voice.
- 25:06And the way out is by faith. Do you know you can have
- 25:09discouragement and faith at the same time?
- 25:13Where you open God's word and you trust God's word by faith
- 25:16until the fog passes, until the anguish of Spirit passes, until
- 25:21you find yourself in a place where you're hearing God,
- 25:24trusting him, responding to his love once again.
- 25:28This is it. You're not responding to your
- 25:30emotion, you're responding to the love of God.
- 25:33Remember in Second Corinthians in chapter 5, verse 14, it says
- 25:36for the love of Christ compels us because we judge thus that if
- 25:41one died for all, then I'll die. Paul says it's the love of God
- 25:45that moves us, that compels us. And as you see this coming back
- 25:52to Moses, you see this new covenant insight is this is the
- 25:56God of that changes. You know he's the same
- 25:59yesterday, today and forever. Notice in verse 6 there's the
- 26:03grace of God. There we are.
- 26:05I'm going to, I'm the Lord. And I'm going to bring you out
- 26:07of the burdens. I'm going to rescue you.
- 26:09I'm going to redeem you. I'm going to redeem you with an
- 26:13outstretched arm with with great judgments.
- 26:15We see grace there. I'm going to bring you off from
- 26:18your burdens. We see love there.
- 26:20I'm going to redeem you. We see in verse 7 relationship,
- 26:23I'm going to take you as my people.
- 26:25God says we see his commitment. In verse eight he says I'm going
- 26:29to bring you into the land. I'm not going to meet you just
- 26:32in Egypt, but I'm going to be with you and I'm going to
- 26:35fulfill this in your life. You will make it into the place
- 26:39I have prepared for you. And what is that to us today?
- 26:42Because some of you doubt whether you're going to make it
- 26:43to heaven or not. That's a real doubt.
- 26:47Among the body of Christ, there are people that doubt their
- 26:50salvation. There are people that doubt
- 26:51whether they're really saved or not.
- 26:53And let me just share a few things.
- 26:54First of all, if that's a real concern for you, repent and
- 26:58receive the Lord Jesus Christ. That's a real concern.
- 27:01I don't want to give you a false sense of salvation.
- 27:03If you're really not sure, you can be sure today.
- 27:06Admit that you have sinned against God, Receive the free
- 27:09gift of salvation, the washing of your sins, the cleansing of
- 27:13your life, and the newness going forward.
- 27:16That's a real deal. We'll give you a chance to do
- 27:18that in a moment. But for those of you that have
- 27:20been around the church for a while, been around Christianity
- 27:22for a while, you kind of go a little bit and you make some
- 27:25progress and then you fall back and you're not sure.
- 27:27Listen, you can be sure of your salvation.
- 27:32You can be sure of your salvation because it is what
- 27:38Jesus has done for you. And Peter would even say, and he
- 27:41knows this because he failed greatly.
- 27:42Remember what Peter said in his letter, that you and I, we are
- 27:45what kept by the power of God, We are kept by Him.
- 27:51He saved us, He keeps us. And so those of you that are
- 27:54worried about whether you're going to make it to heaven or
- 27:56not, in Christ, God promised you, you're going to make it.
- 28:01Well, then I guess if I got the promise, I can go.
- 28:03I can go live like a Sinner. That doesn't sound like a safe
- 28:06person. That sounds like an unsaved
- 28:10person. So I'm going to make it to
- 28:13heaven. I can do whatever I want.
- 28:14You have a people that are in Christ, whatever they want is
- 28:17what God wants. That's what it looks like.
- 28:21It's not your own deal. When you're living, like the way
- 28:25you want to live, that sounds like you, and you don't save
- 28:29anybody. There's no assurance of heaven
- 28:33for the self life. There's no assurance of heaven
- 28:37for the selfish life, only the surrendered life abiding in
- 28:42Christ, experiencing the power of God.
- 28:46You might have your doubts, but God has given you His word.
- 28:51Even as, as we see in verse 9, anguish of spirits so rough and
- 28:56so hard. Do you know God is going to send
- 29:00Pharaoh a message 10 times? Very dramatically, he's going to
- 29:09deal with the heart of Pharaoh. He's going to deal with the
- 29:13false worship of Pharaoh. He's going to deal with the
- 29:15pride of Pharaoh. And the thing that we learn with
- 29:18Pharaoh as we study through is that he didn't have to get it 10
- 29:25times. And I wonder how many today or
- 29:29listening to me. And you're like you I'm telling
- 29:30you you don't have to go the hard way church.
- 29:34You don't have to. God has opened your eyes.
- 29:37You can surrender turn in today. Well notice again in verse 10
- 29:43the Lord spoke to Moses saying go in and speak to Pharaoh king
- 29:46of Egypt, that he must let the children of Israel go out of his
- 29:49land. And Moses spoke before the Lord,
- 29:51saying, the children of Israel not heeded me.
- 29:54How then shall Pharaoh heed me? For I am of uncircumcised lips.
- 29:59Uh. Oh, don't go there again, Moses.
- 30:01Don't do it. Don't do it.
- 30:03We already remember the leprous arm.
- 30:05Remember the the staff. Like, what are you doing?
- 30:08But you know this is real. This is real stuff, Moses, a
- 30:10real man. You've done this before.
- 30:12I've done this before. But oh, MO, don't go.
- 30:16No, no, no. Verse 13.
- 30:18Then the Lord spoke to Moses, and Aaron gave them a command
- 30:22for the children of Israel and for Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to
- 30:24bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
- 30:29Which is so cool to me because we're reading this as Moses
- 30:33falls back a little bit into the weakness of his fear, the
- 30:36weakness of his flesh at the resistance, the pressure of the
- 30:39people, everything. Like, he's dealing with this.
- 30:41Like, I don't want to do this. I'm like, I don't, Don't I
- 30:44already tell you this, God, I told you I didn't want to do
- 30:46this. Like, he's there.
- 30:48But he's in the right place wrestling with this, right?
- 30:50He's not running away like Elijah into a cave.
- 30:53He's there. I mean, for Elijah that cave.
- 30:55God had to get his attention, give him a still small voice.
- 30:58At least Moses with the Lord right now, at least he's getting
- 31:00his direction from the Lord. But I love this with Moses.
- 31:05The I wills that he gave him for the people were for him too.
- 31:12They actually were first for him.
- 31:14Then he got to deliver them. So they were for him.
- 31:19You know, when you're reading the Bible, you Bible teachers,
- 31:22pastors, leaders. When you're in the Bible, you
- 31:25know you're in the Bible for you too.
- 31:30Parents. It's like, I've just got this,
- 31:32Got to disciple my kids. It's true.
- 31:33Got to help you disciple your kids.
- 31:35But you're in the Bible for you. You're not in the Bible for your
- 31:40wife or your husband or your kids or your boss.
- 31:46You're in the word of God for you.
- 31:48First His word comes to you first.
- 31:52Then it comes through you. It comes through us.
- 31:56It's amazing how we think of so many others in the middle of a
- 31:58Bible study. You know that if you see what I
- 32:01see up here, you see the little jabs, you see the little
- 32:04laughter, you see the little whispering.
- 32:06And it's. I almost wanted to go stop it.
- 32:08It's for you. Put your elbows away.
- 32:13And you know, if you guys really want to be crafty, bring a
- 32:15mirror and just put it up next to you.
- 32:18Says that's for you. No, it's for you.
- 32:19And then ultimately, if you're with somebody, you could say
- 32:22it's for us. The word of God is for us.
- 32:25It's for you. It's for me.
- 32:26It's for us. You know that as God gives you
- 32:31something for someone else and you're faithful and reaching out
- 32:34to them, you're faithful and texting them, emailing and
- 32:36calling them. Do you know the Lord gave it to
- 32:38you first, Gave it to you. So if you do reach out to like
- 32:4410 people in a day, just 10 quick text messages, which is
- 32:46nothing. It's nothing.
- 32:48It's nothing. Some of you text hundreds of
- 32:50times a day back and forth, then social media hundreds of times a
- 32:55day. It's nothing, 10 reaching out to
- 32:57people 10 times nothing. That means you would receive 10
- 33:01words from the Lord first as you're praying for somebody.
- 33:05It's like Lord, This got Dave Gordon on my heart.
- 33:08You know, I just, Lord, bless him and encourage him.
- 33:10And and then all of a sudden, boom, remember what God says.
- 33:13Remember what you were reading this morning.
- 33:14Yes. And you go back, You go, ah, I'm
- 33:16going to send it to him. And as you're sending it to him,
- 33:19you can hear the Holy Spirit. Good.
- 33:20Good job, daughter. Good job, son.
- 33:23And what was that verse again? And now you're in dialogue with
- 33:26God. Well, you know, Lord, I was just
- 33:31reading there in Acts and I was talking about sharing the word
- 33:33and and the amazement of your word and and you know, God, I
- 33:37haven't really been amazed at your word lately.
- 33:39And and you know what? Would you just bring amazement
- 33:41back? And all of a sudden now you
- 33:43blessed day, but you were the one that were blessed because
- 33:47God used his word in you. So you come back to God.
- 33:50I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this.
- 33:51And it's like, do you remember what you were reading this
- 33:53morning? Yes, Lord.
- 33:56It's so good. I love this.
- 33:59Jot it down. This is a great verse.
- 34:01Joshua chapter 3, verse nine. It says Joshua told the children
- 34:05of Israel, Listen. Come here and hear the words of
- 34:09the Lord your God. It's like the Lord inviting you
- 34:13when you wake up in the morning. Come here and listen to me, son.
- 34:18Listen to me. And you know, when you hear the
- 34:21word of God, you know what the next part of it is?
- 34:23Obedience. The more you hear, the more you
- 34:26obey. Just simplify it.
- 34:30Just simplify it. You might want to look up a
- 34:31Greek word. Obey it first.
- 34:34I wonder what this word is. Obey it first.
- 34:37Obey it in the English before you look it up.
- 34:41It's like that's what it says. It says right there.
- 34:43Hear me. All right.
- 34:45What was that in the Greek? No, don't worry about the Greek.
- 34:48Hear the word of the Lord. Trust in the Lord.
- 34:51Yeah, but I wonder what that word means.
- 34:53All right. Before you even know what the
- 34:55word means, do it. Trust him.
- 35:00Step out in faith on him. Hold him to his word.
- 35:05Don't talk yourself out of obedience.
- 35:10Obey quickly. The longer you wait, the more
- 35:15you'll be tempted not to obey. It's like, oh, that wasn't from
- 35:18the Lord. No, I was just, you know, I was
- 35:21what I was eating or I was just. I was in anguish of spirits.
- 35:24That's just my emotion. Yeah, but the Lord spoke to you.
- 35:28Obey it, then sort it out later. You'll be blessed that you did
- 35:32well in the section. You're wondering, how are we
- 35:34going to finish this in time, the next section from verses 14
- 35:40all the way through? Let's see, probably verse 27 ish
- 35:45is a genealogy. You know, as we come through our
- 35:48studies in the Old Testament, you're going to come across a
- 35:50lot of genealogies. You can see in verse 14, there's
- 35:53Reuben, verse 15, there's Simeon.
- 35:56In verse 16, there's Levi. This is the family tree of Moses
- 36:00and Aaron. It's presented as proof that
- 36:03they were truly God's servants, chosen by grace and grace alone.
- 36:07Genealogies are essential. Some are like these validating
- 36:11genealogies for the leadership there.
- 36:13But the genealogies that are most important are the ones that
- 36:16point to the validity of Messiah, of Messiah.
- 36:20They're important to the Jewish people as they kept track of
- 36:23families and of land allotments and of the priesthood, and how
- 36:28God affirmed the reality of generationally handing down the
- 36:33word of God. God shows off his people by
- 36:36mentioning them by name. And this one.
- 36:38This genealogy, I believe, is a reminder that God had divinely
- 36:41prepared Moses and Aaron for this work, from Jacob to Reuben,
- 36:47to Simeon to Levi to Moses and Aaron.
- 36:53And in verse 28 it says it came to pass on the day when the Lord
- 36:56spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, that the Lord spoke to
- 36:59Moses, saying, I am the Lord speak to Pharaoh, king of Egypt,
- 37:06all that I say to you. But Moses said before the Lord,
- 37:09Behold, I am uncircumcised lips. And how shall Pharaoh heed me?
- 37:16Well, this is a reminder that there are weaknesses of your
- 37:21flesh that follow you. You get victory, and then it
- 37:26shows up again. You get victory and it shows up
- 37:30again. This is a man of God used
- 37:31greatly victory, and it shows up again.
- 37:35Even though with the weakness of his flesh, Moses does do what
- 37:43God told him to do. It's no excuse because you
- 37:47wrestle with the flesh or a weakness of your flesh.
- 37:50You know who am I? Who am I?
- 37:51I'm like, you're the one that God's speaking to personally.
- 37:53That's who you are. You're the one that have us
- 37:56understanding. You're the one that God has just
- 37:58given you all these promises. You're the one that has already
- 38:01done once, even though it didn't turn out the way you thought it
- 38:04would turn out. That's not that wasn't God's
- 38:06point. God's point was for you to hear
- 38:08him and obey him. You leave the results to him.
- 38:12If it's all grace, then you leave the results to him.
- 38:15You let him sort it out. You measure it as a great
- 38:18success that's under the Lord. You measure it as a great
- 38:21failure. It's under the Lord because it's
- 38:23not just your output that matters, it's what God is doing
- 38:27in you through the process, especially you guys that have
- 38:32leadership responsibilities. We get so caught up on what the
- 38:35outcome is, and the outcome, you know, matters for sure.
- 38:38Absolutely. There's a measurement of fruit
- 38:41and we can sort that out later, but it's not the primary
- 38:44measurement. The primary measurement is how
- 38:46God has used the situation to make you more look Christ like
- 38:50and make me more Christ like. Make me more dependent, make me
- 38:55more pliable. The more pliable I am, the more
- 39:00I hear the Lord, the more reliable I become in His hands.
- 39:05So Moses is dealing with it, but just get ahead.
- 39:09Verse one of Chapter 7. And the Lord said to Moses, oh,
- 39:12never mind Moses, I know you can't do it.
- 39:14I'll go find somebody else. It's no big deal.
- 39:17Go ahead and quit. Don't worry about it.
- 39:19Yours. I mean, obviously it's not.
- 39:21That's like people's inside voice sometimes.
- 39:24And that's not what he says. I made you as God to Pharaoh.
- 39:27You shall speak verse two. It's like God says, you're going
- 39:31to do it, man. You're going to do it.
- 39:35I'm doing this work in you and you're going to do it.
- 39:37Your brother's going to do it and I'm going to.
- 39:39He just lays it all out. So read ahead.
- 39:41We'll be our next study. Lord, thank you for the
- 39:42privilege of serving you and all that you want to accomplish in
- 39:45US. Moses is that that picture.
- 39:48Lord, that revelation of the weakness of our humanity met
- 39:53with the strength of your divinity.
- 39:58Where that in this interesting world in which we live, where
- 40:02divinity meets humanity. All for your glory, Lord, Just
- 40:06like we're celebrating this weekend, the revelation of God
- 40:13and human flesh sacrificing his life for us, so Lord, we're
- 40:21desiring for you to help. Our inadequacies, reminding us
- 40:25of Your grace like things have been so complicated and so many
- 40:31different layers added to a simple walk with you for some
- 40:34Lord. Just bring them back to the
- 40:36first time they they heard the word of God.
- 40:39Bring them back to the first time they walked into a church.
- 40:43Bring them back to the first time you revealed yourself to
- 40:47them. Bring them back to the first
- 40:49time they failed and you got them back up.
- 40:53Bring them back to the first time they faced anguish of
- 40:56spirit and you got them through. It's to that very church.
- 41:00Even Jesus in Ephesus you had to tell them, remember from where
- 41:05you have fallen, repent and repeat and go back and do the
- 41:111st works. And it was because they left
- 41:15their first love and Lord fill our hearts again and afresh with
- 41:20love. That isn't dependent upon
- 41:22people's opinions, It isn't dependent upon our outcome or
- 41:28our measurements of success. It's just because of your grace
- 41:33and your goodness. And if you're here today and you
- 41:37need to surrender your life to Jesus, I want to give you that
- 41:40chance. I mentioned it earlier.
- 41:44You know, the reality is, is that although we might admit
- 41:47that we've made mistakes, we've done something far greater than
- 41:50just make a few mistakes. The Bible says that we have all
- 41:54sinned against a holy and a righteous God.
- 41:58So in our mistakes we have actually the Bible would call
- 42:02that sin, but it's more than just a little thing with our
- 42:05mouth or you know, a little trip up like to live separate from
- 42:09God is very serious. We've offended God through our
- 42:13actions. We have lived a life as enemies
- 42:16of God. You you see in the video that we
- 42:19watched today where a whole nation lives in enmity against
- 42:23God because they have believed a lie and we don't need to be in
- 42:27Thailand. So many believe a lie today, but
- 42:31God is revealing. He's opening your eyes to the
- 42:33truth. And here's the truth that God so
- 42:36loved you that he sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to
- 42:39die for you. So that if you believe in him,
- 42:44you wouldn't perish but have everlasting life.
- 42:50You wouldn't perish, spend eternity separate from God.
- 42:55The language that's very familiar to you is that apart
- 42:57from Christ, hell awaits you. I know it's easy.
- 43:05Like I believe in heaven. Everybody believes in heaven.
- 43:08What was real as heaven is how is equally real.
- 43:14And it's our hearts. Even one of the brothers praying
- 43:16in our group. You'd hear it in his voice, just
- 43:19so desirous, so hopeful for the people in Thailand to not die
- 43:25apart from Christ. Well, here we are right now.
- 43:28And God's heart, that same heart is for you.
- 43:30So if you're here today, you'd say, I'd I need to follow
- 43:33Christ. I I want the forgiveness of my
- 43:35sins. Would you just stand to your
- 43:36feet? I want to pray with you.
- 43:39And as you respond publicly, someone will come up alongside
- 43:41of you, just kind of lay a hand on you, encourage you that
- 43:45you're not alone. It's such a momentous day where
- 43:49you would come to the place where you realize God's love for
- 43:52you. Remember those things I
- 43:55mentioned? They're all available in Jesus.
- 43:58Salvation, liberation. I think of that to be liberated,
- 44:04redemption, adoption. That God wants you, that's
- 44:11amazing. He wants to show himself to you.
- 44:14Revelation, He wants to give you direction for your life.
- 44:19He wants to show you beyond. He says I'm going to give it to
- 44:22you. That's provision.
- 44:23He wants to help you. This is God's nature.
- 44:27You meet God. You get this purpose.
- 44:32Direction. Anyone here?
- 44:37Salvation. Maybe you're out on the online
- 44:48somewhere on the radio. It's amazing how God uses
- 44:52technology. You're not forgotten.
- 44:55Maybe downstairs you're not forgotten that God would bring
- 45:01about a place where you understand his love for you.
- 45:04You don't even know. Like that's the thing.
- 45:06You don't even know yet, the definition of love.
- 45:11From God's perspective, you just got this substitute thing in the
- 45:14world which isn't a good substitute, this unconditional,
- 45:21fully committed. Check this out.
- 45:24A love like he will never leave or forsake you.
- 45:31It takes time to believe it, actually.
- 45:36Those of you that have been wounded, beat up, abused, taken
- 45:42advantage of by others, even by yourself.
- 45:47The love of God transcends all that.
- 45:49And you can just ask God to forgive you of your sins.
- 45:52You can ask that now. You can ask God to enter into
- 45:57your life to become in control. You say I give you my life.
- 46:03God, I confess you. I believe you lived and died.
- 46:07And like we're going to celebrate.
- 46:09I believe you rose again from the dead.
- 46:12That's a pretty monumental claim, isn't it?
- 46:15Just say, well, you know, I rose from the dead.
- 46:16No. He was seen by hundreds and
- 46:20thousands of people. The Bible says at one time the
- 46:23resurrected Jesus Christ was seen by over 500 people at one
- 46:27time. It's validated.
- 46:34And even though we haven't seen the risen Christ ourselves, like
- 46:37with our physical eyes, we know the risen Christ.
- 46:41Here in this room, another few 100 people, we have seen Jesus
- 46:44Christ, the risen Lord enter into a relationship with us.
- 46:50So Father, I know that you're working and and drawing and
- 46:55wooing and convicting. And so we just we pray for our
- 46:59friends right now and our family members pray for our neighbors,
- 47:05our Co workers. We pray for those that we met in
- 47:08the market and at Target and Walmart, those that were in line
- 47:12at Target, at Starbucks or we. There's so many things in this
- 47:19world that is caused us to forget about people.
- 47:24So just remind us people is all that matters.
- 47:28Give us wisdom and sensitivity that as a church God we would be
- 47:34all about it. The word and people compassion
- 47:37and love, grace and mercy. First to the people closest to
- 47:42us and then to the stranger. Lord, bless your church tonight
- 47:48as we head out Jesus name. Amen.
- 47:52We pray that you've been encouraged by this Bible study
