- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode seventy five of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as always
- 0:22Speaker 1: by my very good friend Jeremy Burr, also from rasball.
- 0:26Speaker 2: How you doing tonight, buddy, doing fantastic and join the
- 0:29Speaker 2: polar vortex. We've got an actual global warming going on
- 0:32Speaker 2: here in central Illinois. Up thirty degrees compared to the
- 0:34Speaker 2: last few days, so it's nice to be in the twenties.
- 0:37Speaker 2: But I'm excited. I think we should start talking about
- 0:39Speaker 2: spring training to warm things up. So I'm ready to go,
- 0:42Speaker 2: and we are hitting one of my favorite parts of
- 0:44Speaker 2: the off season here. I won't ruin it. I will
- 0:47Speaker 2: bear the lead. I'll let you do the introductions where
- 0:49Speaker 2: we're going tonight. But I am thrilled and excited.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yes I am too, because we are kicking off our
- 0:55Speaker 1: seasonal preview for twenty twenty five here, and we do
- 0:59Speaker 1: it a little differently here. We actually go by division,
- 1:02Speaker 1: so we're starting with the Al East this week, and
- 1:05Speaker 1: we couldn't discuss Al East and the East Coast Baseball
- 1:09Speaker 1: without our brethren from the North. Matt Frank aka Marmo's
- 1:13Speaker 1: Dad from rasball writes the weekly Top one hundred Pitchers
- 1:17Speaker 1: just had his first Top one hundred piece for twenty
- 1:19Speaker 1: twenty five drop this week on Monday. Make sure to
- 1:22Speaker 1: go check it out. Ras Ball Matt, How are you
- 1:24Speaker 1: doing tonight, buddy, gentlemen?
- 1:26Speaker 3: I am so excited to be here, really really pumped
- 1:30Speaker 3: for spring training, and yeah, there's no better spot to
- 1:34Speaker 3: start than the Al East with our blue Jays up here,
- 1:38Speaker 3: made a little bit of noise this winter, not as
- 1:41Speaker 3: much as they wanted them to or the fans wanted
- 1:43Speaker 3: them to, But we'll get to that. But yeah, I'm
- 1:45Speaker 3: pretty pumped, really excited to talk about some of these
- 1:49Speaker 3: names and buys and sells and things like that. So yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 3: I'm really really excited to see you guys, and hoping,
- 1:55Speaker 3: like Bruce said, warms up a little bit. It's pretty
- 1:58Speaker 3: frosty up here, so yeah, I'll take as much sun
- 2:01Speaker 3: as we can get.
- 2:03Speaker 1: All right, Well, yeah, maybe we can also make ourselves
- 2:05Speaker 1: all warm by just filling our rooms with hot air
- 2:08Speaker 1: as we talk about the baseball happenings here this week.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Let's hit some of that the news and notes this
- 2:13Speaker 1: week before we get into that Al East preview, because
- 2:16Speaker 1: this is a pretty serendipitous set of news and notes
- 2:19Speaker 1: considering that you're on this week, Matt, between being a Canadian,
- 2:24Speaker 1: a Blue Jays fan, and also being our top one
- 2:28Speaker 1: hundred pitchers writer. So I'm going to kick off with
- 2:30Speaker 1: the big one as we have. The Dodgers really just
- 2:34Speaker 1: I think maybe the only team in all of baseball
- 2:36Speaker 1: that has any money to spend, and at this point
- 2:39Speaker 1: they're totally out of roster spots, so every time they're
- 2:41Speaker 1: making one of these moves, they're having to move somebody
- 2:44Speaker 1: off of the forty man with the trade or off
- 2:46Speaker 1: of the twenty six man. So it's been I'm just
- 2:49Speaker 1: surprised that other teams are willing to let them do that,
- 2:52Speaker 1: But I'll guess we'll see how the rest of this
- 2:55Speaker 1: winter works out for them. I'm gonna start with the
- 2:58Speaker 1: two minor ones first, just because I don't think we'll
- 3:00Speaker 1: have as much chatter there. But they Dodgers did boost
- 3:03Speaker 1: their bullpen by going out and signing Tanner Scott and
- 3:06Speaker 1: Kirby Yates to bring to fortify the back end of
- 3:09Speaker 1: that bullpen. Does sound like Michael Kopek might have a
- 3:12Speaker 1: bit of an elbow issue, so certainly that'll make a
- 3:16Speaker 1: good buying opportunity on Yates and Scott. But let's get
- 3:19Speaker 1: to the big one here, Roki Sasaki signing with the Dodgers.
- 3:22Speaker 1: We could have recorded this maybe back in November when
- 3:25Speaker 1: Sasaki said he was gonna come over, because this was
- 3:28Speaker 1: the odds on favorite that the Dodgers only had to
- 3:31Speaker 1: use international signing money to bring Sasaki in, which puts
- 3:35Speaker 1: him on a minor league deal. Technically, if you looked
- 3:38Speaker 1: at the actual like MLB transactions today, technically he was
- 3:42Speaker 1: assigned to Oklahoma City Sasaki was, so he has to
- 3:45Speaker 1: come up through that minor league system quote unquote because
- 3:48Speaker 1: of the international free agency. And so this sets up
- 3:52Speaker 1: that he's going to start the beginning of his career
- 3:54Speaker 1: with the Dodgers. Gives the Dodgers an insane rotation. But Matt,
- 3:59Speaker 1: since you're here, I'll kick it over to you to
- 4:01Speaker 1: talk about one. Obviously, the Blue Jays were one of
- 4:05Speaker 1: the three finalists here along with the Padres, probably a
- 4:09Speaker 1: very distant third place given the way that the Blue
- 4:12Speaker 1: Jays have constantly been losing out on these free agents
- 4:14Speaker 1: over the past couple of years. So I'll give you
- 4:16Speaker 1: some space to talk to us about the sadness of
- 4:20Speaker 1: being a Blue Jays fan. But then also if you
- 4:22Speaker 1: want to transition in from there, like give us your
- 4:25Speaker 1: your outlook for Sousaki going into twenty twenty five as
- 4:28Speaker 1: our pitching expert.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Oh yeah, there's a lot there. And believe me, I
- 4:33Speaker 3: could go on and on. Yes, the kids in my
- 4:35Speaker 3: classroom they'll tell you how you go on and on.
- 4:37Speaker 3: So I'll try and not keep it too long. But yeah, oh,
- 4:42Speaker 3: I feel like I had the same exact conversation with
- 4:44Speaker 3: you guys at boat show hey last year when it
- 4:46Speaker 3: was all the buzz and last winter I said, oh,
- 4:50Speaker 3: he's gonna end up with the Dodgers. And then that
- 4:53Speaker 3: one day where he said, oh, he's on the plane,
- 4:55Speaker 3: and I thought, nah, there's no way I bit on
- 4:59Speaker 3: that too. So goodness, there was no airplanes involved with
- 5:01Speaker 3: Roki Susaki this year. I don't know. It's when you're
- 5:06Speaker 3: down to three teams left number wise, it sounds pretty
- 5:09Speaker 3: darn good. And then actually they had said I believe
- 5:13Speaker 3: it was his camp that said the Padres were out,
- 5:16Speaker 3: I think a day before he announced. So it was
- 5:19Speaker 3: down to Toronto and the Dodgers and of course all
- 5:22Speaker 3: the fans up here were we're getting all flappy and excited,
- 5:26Speaker 3: and I mean for a good reason if there actually
- 5:29Speaker 3: was a shot. But I think I said it a
- 5:32Speaker 3: couple of times in my article this week. Feels like
- 5:36Speaker 3: the Charlie Brown trying to kick the football yet again
- 5:39Speaker 3: and getting it yanked out. I don't even know if
- 5:40Speaker 3: the football was honestly there, because I think everybody knew
- 5:44Speaker 3: that he'd end up in La anyway. But it's one
- 5:47Speaker 3: of those things where if you look at it optimistically,
- 5:49Speaker 3: it's nice to be mentioned in those conversations. But yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 3: it's I think we all kind of knew that it
- 5:57Speaker 3: would be that Bride's made, never the bride I type
- 6:01Speaker 3: ending that we've grown so accustomed to seeing. It was
- 6:05Speaker 3: Otani first, Soto. I mentioned the Corbyn Burns thing too.
- 6:10Speaker 3: They ran on Corbyn Burns, and the running joke up
- 6:12Speaker 3: here is every single time there's a free agent article
- 6:15Speaker 3: on the one app that people read up here, a
- 6:17Speaker 3: lot people comment all the Blue Jays are interested in
- 6:20Speaker 3: Toronto's interested in Toronto's interested on everybody. But I did
- 6:25Speaker 3: say about the Burns thing, at least it sounded like
- 6:27Speaker 3: he was signing in Arizona just to be closer to family.
- 6:30Speaker 3: So I said, I can't really fault the player or
- 6:33Speaker 3: the team if if that's the case. But the Roki thing,
- 6:37Speaker 3: it's rough because, like you said, it's not like people
- 6:40Speaker 3: could back up the Brinks truck and put hundreds of
- 6:44Speaker 3: millions of dollars out there, whether it's deferred or not.
- 6:47Speaker 3: And still he ended up going to the free agent
- 6:52Speaker 3: All Star team over there.
- 6:55Speaker 1: On the West Coast. And I mean, I guess the
- 6:57Speaker 1: one shining star here is you did get my ill
- 7:00Speaker 1: straw on that trade with the Guardians for the International
- 7:03Speaker 1: space that it looked like Blue Jays needed to be
- 7:06Speaker 1: able to bring in Sasaki. But what do you think
- 7:09Speaker 1: that this means for Susaki? Where do you think you're
- 7:11Speaker 1: going to be placing him in your top one hundred.
- 7:14Speaker 3: He's going to be there, for sure, he'll be I
- 7:19Speaker 3: don't know. I don't want to throw a number directly
- 7:21Speaker 3: at it, but just looking at some of the ADPs,
- 7:26Speaker 3: he is going pretty high. I don't want to get
- 7:29Speaker 3: into too much because there's a few guys in here
- 7:30Speaker 3: as well that I'd mentioned, but that I'll mention a
- 7:34Speaker 3: little bit later. But I can't see him being too
- 7:40Speaker 3: much further down than like top twenty at the very least,
- 7:45Speaker 3: Like I looking at some of the guys ahead of
- 7:49Speaker 3: him and FBC, it's pretty low right now, Like just
- 7:52Speaker 3: looking at him, he's behind Hunter Green and Luis Castillo
- 7:57Speaker 3: and he's just above Tanner Beebe and Spencer Schwellem. So
- 8:00Speaker 3: I mean I'm taking him all day over those guys.
- 8:05Speaker 3: And I mean, if you go up a little bit further,
- 8:07Speaker 3: you're getting to the Aaron Nola Bailey over Robert Well yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 3: Bryce Miller, Yeah, yeah, I could see that, And I
- 8:17Speaker 3: mean you could go into all of the old cliches
- 8:19Speaker 3: where it all depends on health end and how's he
- 8:23Speaker 3: going to transition over? But I think he'll be one
- 8:25Speaker 3: of those guys that hits the ground running, and as
- 8:29Speaker 3: cheesy as it might sound, like he's got he's got
- 8:32Speaker 3: guys from the home country there that he's familiar with,
- 8:36Speaker 3: and I think learning from Shohei and Yoshi Yamamoto there,
- 8:41Speaker 3: they've already transitioned over. So I think that's gonna be
- 8:43Speaker 3: huge for him.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree. And brew I hinted at
- 8:48Speaker 1: this a little bit with just that huge all star
- 8:51Speaker 1: rotation that the Dodgers have in terms of, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: adding to Yamamoto, adding to glass Snow, adding to Blake
- 8:59Speaker 1: Snell to I'm missing more and more like but then
- 9:03Speaker 1: you could land a knack on the back end and
- 9:06Speaker 1: things like that. I guess maybe it does sound like
- 9:10Speaker 1: a high ranking there for Matt in terms of top twenty.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Any concerns with that ranking between not only Sasaki's injury
- 9:18Speaker 1: history from last year where he had the decline in
- 9:21Speaker 1: his fastball velocity and even when he was going around
- 9:24Speaker 1: in interviewing teams, one of the things he was forcing
- 9:27Speaker 1: them to do was to give a pitch on how
- 9:30Speaker 1: they would increase his fastball velocity and being able to
- 9:33Speaker 1: leverage that information from all of them. And so do
- 9:37Speaker 1: you think that there is an injury concern with Susaki
- 9:39Speaker 1: or even like an outside remote chance that he might
- 9:43Speaker 1: have to spend some time in the minor leagues being
- 9:45Speaker 1: able to work himself up.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I think those those are fair concerns. You know,
- 9:50Speaker 2: I think I'd be more concerned with the injury risk
- 9:53Speaker 2: with Susaki than anything. He did have a little bit
- 9:56Speaker 2: of a down year last year and has had a
- 9:58Speaker 2: few hiccups over before he came over with those injuries,
- 10:03Speaker 2: and the Dodgers are deep. They are absolutely deep. They
- 10:07Speaker 2: still haven't signed Clayton Kershay yet, which we know is
- 10:09Speaker 2: gonna happen, so like you know, those things are gonna happen,
- 10:13Speaker 2: and he's like I have a time arguing with Max
- 10:16Speaker 2: because I was kind of looking at Adp myself and
- 10:18Speaker 2: like that. I kind of put him in that like
- 10:20Speaker 2: that Michael King Bailey over Pablo Lopez type area because
- 10:25Speaker 2: the upside there is more upside than some some of
- 10:28Speaker 2: those guys. But he's also kind of one of those
- 10:31Speaker 2: that you don't want to anchor rotation because the Dodgers
- 10:34Speaker 2: might go with a six man rotation. They're gonna probably
- 10:37Speaker 2: try to get him through five or six innings. You
- 10:39Speaker 2: can see them already loading up on that bullpen, like
- 10:41Speaker 2: he is a prized possession for the for the next
- 10:44Speaker 2: you know, six seven years. I would not be shocked
- 10:47Speaker 2: that he gets an extension relatively midway through the season.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Hush hush, wink wink type situation here. So like I
- 10:55Speaker 2: I think that you have to keep your expectations in reason.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yamamoto Imonaga like that kind of level we had last year,
- 11:04Speaker 2: Like I think you got to be happy if that's
- 11:06Speaker 2: what you get out of Rokie, and don't go for
- 11:09Speaker 2: too much more. Don't think he's going to be a
- 11:11Speaker 2: top ten pitcher. He's probably not, and that's just based
- 11:15Speaker 2: on volume. So I think there's some a few red flags.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But he's still the best pitcher that has come over
- 11:21Speaker 2: from Japan in many, many years. He is absolutely outstanding,
- 11:27Speaker 2: and the fact that he was willing to come over
- 11:29Speaker 2: without waiting for the money either tells you he's already
- 11:31Speaker 2: hurt or more likely that, like he is a fierce,
- 11:35Speaker 2: fearce competitor. So I think he's gonna be absolutely fun
- 11:37Speaker 2: to watch. But I like most of these guys, at
- 11:41Speaker 2: least for me, I never end up owning them. That
- 11:43Speaker 2: the helium's too much, the Dodger tax is too much.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I mean, hey, if there's one team, I would love
- 11:51Speaker 2: to just own the entire team and just let it
- 11:53Speaker 2: ride from a fantasy roster. This is it. I don't
- 11:56Speaker 2: know if you can actually even physically draft the Dodgers team.
- 12:00Speaker 2: If you like, hey, cool your white soft, you can
- 12:02Speaker 2: draft them all day. You don't have to show up
- 12:03Speaker 2: in the twentieth round. But it's gonna be fun to watch,
- 12:08Speaker 2: but yeah, there's some red flags that I'm putting like
- 12:11Speaker 2: the smallest of cold water cups on this one.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Well that's the thing. If you look at it and
- 12:16Speaker 3: you're thinking, okay, well he's with an unbelievable, offensively talented
- 12:21Speaker 3: juggernaut there, so any of those cap dinings, if he
- 12:25Speaker 3: does have a captainning cap, they're going to be great.
- 12:29Speaker 3: But like you say, it all comes down to volume.
- 12:33Speaker 3: No matter how much talent these guys have. If he's
- 12:35Speaker 3: only throwing a certain I don't say one hundred and
- 12:38Speaker 3: twenty at the most hundred innings, then I mean that
- 12:41Speaker 3: that's going to cut off any chance you have if
- 12:44Speaker 3: you're still rolling with winds and strikeouts and things like that.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Anything that's accounting stat that you're going to need, Yeah,
- 12:49Speaker 3: it puts a little bit of a damper on it.
- 12:52Speaker 3: A few of my things that I said in my
- 12:54Speaker 3: list here, not to give too much away, but you
- 12:56Speaker 3: mentioned draft day price is huge for a lot of
- 12:59Speaker 3: guys my red sox sell give you a little bit
- 13:03Speaker 3: of a teaser. That's one of them too. I love
- 13:07Speaker 3: the player, but it's one of those ones where Gray
- 13:10Speaker 3: I'll say it all the time too, those guys that
- 13:12Speaker 3: maybe last year would have been a good little sleeper
- 13:14Speaker 3: to kind of sit on now have launched into the
- 13:18Speaker 3: stratosphere where everybody knows them and they're picking them up
- 13:21Speaker 3: in the first or second round. So it's like, all right, well,
- 13:24Speaker 3: I guess I'm probably not going to pay up for
- 13:25Speaker 3: that because I'm firmly in the middle of the Bible
- 13:28Speaker 3: of rasball wait on those starting pitchers. So yeah, I
- 13:33Speaker 3: don't know. I don't think Roki is going to drop
- 13:35Speaker 3: into the zone that I'm comfortable taking him. It'll be
- 13:38Speaker 3: awesome to watch, but for right now, like you say,
- 13:41Speaker 3: there's so much helium boosting him that there's other guys
- 13:44Speaker 3: that I would prefer to take a little bit later,
- 13:46Speaker 3: and I'll load up on some hitters in that zone. Probably.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm right locking step with you. And
- 13:53Speaker 1: even like even in auction drafts, where sometimes I can
- 13:56Speaker 1: come away with these players a lot of like what
- 13:58Speaker 1: you said, I think keeps me from spending that extra
- 14:01Speaker 1: dollar or two to go above somebody in an auction,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and like push yourself beyond the values that your sheet says,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and even the legal room you gave yourself on the
- 14:10Speaker 1: sheet when you're in the heat of the auction and
- 14:12Speaker 1: really want rookie Sasaki. There are just too many questions
- 14:16Speaker 1: I think to go there, not that he's not going
- 14:20Speaker 1: to be a great pitcher, and I don't have faith
- 14:21Speaker 1: in what he's doing. Obviously, if you have a first
- 14:24Speaker 1: year player, draft, dynasty situation, keeper situation, he becomes an
- 14:29Speaker 1: automatic huge piece in that. And you know in your
- 14:33Speaker 1: if you're especially if you're in a league where you
- 14:34Speaker 1: know you're able to keep him before he came over
- 14:37Speaker 1: or something like that, that's absolutely a heist. But I would
- 14:41Speaker 1: say it's somebody where I won't be acquiring it in
- 14:44Speaker 1: the initial year here, but maybe next year it's very possible,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, as the price becomes more solidified and we
- 14:50Speaker 1: actually get to see what Susaki has in that arsenal
- 14:53Speaker 1: in front of all of Major League picked uh batters
- 14:56Speaker 1: and stadiums and everything. Okay, well, let's move on to
- 15:00Speaker 1: the next bit of news. And happier than Miles Straw
- 15:04Speaker 1: coming to Toronto, Matt you also, I.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Don't know if it gets any happier than that. Come on.
- 15:10Speaker 1: They did spend some of the cash that they had
- 15:13Speaker 1: allotted for Soto and Sasaki and at all that they
- 15:18Speaker 1: convinced Anthony Santander to come up there and he signed
- 15:21Speaker 1: four five million and ninety two and a half or
- 15:24Speaker 1: five years ninety two and a half million. There's lots
- 15:28Speaker 1: of opt outs in all sorts of weird decision trees
- 15:33Speaker 1: that I'm not even sure I fully understand or if
- 15:35Speaker 1: anybody understands. But this is a great landing spot I
- 15:39Speaker 1: think for Santander because he should walk in immediately be
- 15:43Speaker 1: the three or four hitter in UH top heavy Toronto lineup.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I would say, you know, there are some bats there
- 15:49Speaker 1: that could start to develop and come through, but certainly
- 15:52Speaker 1: this is a little bit of a It's a make
- 15:55Speaker 1: or break year for the Toronto Blue Jays, so they
- 15:56Speaker 1: had to bring in Santander. He had a fantastic season
- 16:01Speaker 1: for the Blue Jays. Hit forty four bombs with one
- 16:04Speaker 1: hundred and two RBIs two thirty five three or eight
- 16:07Speaker 1: five h six slash line. You don't see a five
- 16:10Speaker 1: hundred slug very often. That was good for a one
- 16:12Speaker 1: to twenty nine WRC plus coming into his age thirty
- 16:15Speaker 1: season with the Blue Jays. What do you think about
- 16:18Speaker 1: this get for your Toronto club?
- 16:20Speaker 3: At UH, there's a few things there. Number One, nobody
- 16:24Speaker 3: can complain about the Dodgers, uh deferring money if they're
- 16:27Speaker 3: a Jas fan now, because there's quite a bit deferred
- 16:29Speaker 3: with the Santander deals. So it's I mean, it's one
- 16:33Speaker 3: of those if you can't beat them, join them, I think.
- 16:35Speaker 3: But I'd said this back in November. It made sense.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Last year. I was saying it hoping that Cody Bellinger
- 16:41Speaker 3: would land in Toronto because they have so many right
- 16:45Speaker 3: handed bats that are a core part of that lineup.
- 16:48Speaker 3: They needed to mix it up a little bit with
- 16:50Speaker 3: a lefty or someone that does switch. So when we're
- 16:56Speaker 3: looking through all of the free agents that were available,
- 16:59Speaker 3: I thought, okay, well they don't land a Soto or
- 17:01Speaker 3: one of the big fish out there. Santander made sense.
- 17:05Speaker 3: He's a power bat. You could slot him in for
- 17:07Speaker 3: some protection around Vlad. You can break up the righty's
- 17:12Speaker 3: in that middle of the lineup. Like you said, I
- 17:15Speaker 3: think he slotted in as a cleanup hitter, if not
- 17:18Speaker 3: maybe a three bat, And that was the most proven
- 17:25Speaker 3: power bat outside of someone like Pete Alonzo. But if
- 17:29Speaker 3: you've got someone like Vlad playing first for the majority
- 17:32Speaker 3: of the time or DH I know he played a
- 17:34Speaker 3: little third last year. I don't know if they go
- 17:37Speaker 3: after a peede alonzo, So it made sense for Santander
- 17:40Speaker 3: from a I guess a position eligibility standpoint. They just
- 17:45Speaker 3: ditched my guessessions. They dipped use Spencer Horowitz as a
- 17:50Speaker 3: piece of trade fodder to pull andres him and is in.
- 17:55Speaker 3: So that was another guy that had a little bit
- 17:58Speaker 3: of a field time that they've lost. So yeah, I
- 18:01Speaker 3: think he slots into right field and a switch hitting
- 18:04Speaker 3: bat in the middle of that order is something that
- 18:05Speaker 3: they needed, especially with a big power boost, so hopefully
- 18:09Speaker 3: it works out.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and then so brew the this is such a
- 18:15Speaker 1: veteran player that this is one of those ones where
- 18:18Speaker 1: like the projection systems all look like they were copying
- 18:22Speaker 1: each other's work in math class, that pretty much all
- 18:25Speaker 1: of them have him between like thirty two to thirty
- 18:27Speaker 1: four homers, mid two forties batting average, somewhere around mid
- 18:33Speaker 1: eighties runs, and then like upper nineties RBI, are you
- 18:36Speaker 1: buying that line? And what do you think about his
- 18:38Speaker 1: price right now in drafts in the NFBC.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm one hundred percent by that line. I was
- 18:43Speaker 2: actually kind of thinking, hey, what might line be if
- 18:45Speaker 2: I if I didn't and you know, looking at fangrafts here,
- 18:47Speaker 2: I actually just look down, but I didn't, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 2: and I you know, I would have put pegged in
- 18:52Speaker 2: mid thirty thirty five through six homers, probably about a
- 18:55Speaker 2: two forty five average hundred ribies. That's right where he
- 18:58Speaker 2: was in my mind. Now look at the the projections. Yeah,
- 19:01Speaker 2: I'm pretty much exactly the same thing. And what I
- 19:04Speaker 2: think is interesting here is that he's actually really affordable
- 19:08Speaker 2: in drafts still. I mean, he's going in that kind
- 19:10Speaker 2: of sayas a zu Kie Ryan Reynolds, Riley Green area
- 19:13Speaker 2: right right before pick one hundred, and I'm taking him
- 19:17Speaker 2: all day over those kind of guys. He has a
- 19:19Speaker 2: little bit of an upside on the average. His last
- 19:21Speaker 2: year he did hit two thirty five, but his baby
- 19:23Speaker 2: it was two twenty five. He's not a high baby
- 19:26Speaker 2: guy by any means, but like that was low over low,
- 19:28Speaker 2: So you know, there's a little bit of a rebound there.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So I think he's because to your point, he's got
- 19:35Speaker 2: that older age. He's never been the first fiddle pretty
- 19:39Speaker 2: much anywhere he's been, but he just has produced and
- 19:42Speaker 2: he's done it for three years now, you could argue
- 19:46Speaker 2: almost four years. With the twenty twenty one season, he
- 19:50Speaker 2: only got one hundred and ten games, and he's been
- 19:52Speaker 2: basically the same guy the entire time. Now, that could change,
- 19:56Speaker 2: Like you all, Anthony Rendon On us go to a
- 19:59Speaker 2: new location and just not su show up. But that
- 20:02Speaker 2: I don't see that, Sorry, Matt, I don't see that happening.
- 20:06Speaker 2: So I'm I think he's a great price right now,
- 20:10Speaker 2: and I'd probably take him a few rounds earlier than
- 20:12Speaker 2: where he's going.
- 20:13Speaker 3: If he shows up with his glove, that's one step
- 20:16Speaker 3: ahead of Anthony, because I think leaves his gear at
- 20:19Speaker 3: home because he doesn't want to play.
- 20:21Speaker 2: So yeah, some very true.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Okay. Then the last bit of news we have. I
- 20:29Speaker 1: thought this would just kind of be a fun story.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It's not going to be something that we actually will
- 20:35Speaker 1: have an effect on our fantasy game here for a
- 20:38Speaker 1: long time. But we have Shotaro Mori from Japan. He
- 20:43Speaker 1: is an eighteen year old coming over and he signed
- 20:46Speaker 1: with the Oakland caught myself the Just Athletics Baseball Club
- 20:52Speaker 1: the ABC this week as he's totally bypassing the system
- 20:56Speaker 1: that Sasaki went through that Yamamoto went through, and Otani
- 20:59Speaker 1: went through, and even Sasaki and Otani, you know, bypassed
- 21:03Speaker 1: the system a little bit coming through an MPB where
- 21:05Speaker 1: they work their way out of the contracts that they
- 21:08Speaker 1: had early. And usually most players come over in the
- 21:14Speaker 1: same way that Yamamoto did, where they play through their
- 21:18Speaker 1: entire commitment to their club that drafts them and the
- 21:25Speaker 1: rights there. I think it goes like nine years instead
- 21:27Speaker 1: of like six or seven the way it does in MLB,
- 21:30Speaker 1: so it is quite the commitment. Morey decided that he's
- 21:33Speaker 1: going to totally bypass that system and sign directly with
- 21:36Speaker 1: the A's as an international free agent this week. So
- 21:40Speaker 1: Brew do you think this is something that we'll see
- 21:42Speaker 1: more of and what do you think that like this
- 21:46Speaker 1: could mean for some of your investments in Japanese baseball
- 21:49Speaker 1: cards and an MPB overall.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely think this is something we will see
- 21:55Speaker 2: more of, and I think it's going to be a
- 21:56Speaker 2: collective bargaining a discussion coming up not too in the
- 22:00Speaker 2: distant future, because Mario was projected to be kind of
- 22:02Speaker 2: a top ten draft pick in the NPB draft and
- 22:06Speaker 2: for him just come over get one point five million
- 22:09Speaker 2: sign on the dotted line he said he hopes to
- 22:11Speaker 2: be in the majors in three years. I mean, hey,
- 22:13Speaker 2: we'll see. But like that's just I mean, think of
- 22:16Speaker 2: Sasaki had done that, Like he would have already been
- 22:19Speaker 2: up for the last three or four years. He'd be
- 22:21Speaker 2: in arbitration, he'd be making great money, and you know,
- 22:24Speaker 2: he would have had his choice of landing spot. So
- 22:27Speaker 2: I think this is going to start to work around
- 22:29Speaker 2: that system a little bit more as some of these
- 22:32Speaker 2: top high school names can get paid pretty gush charting
- 22:35Speaker 2: good money, probably better than once they're going to make
- 22:38Speaker 2: an MPB just skipping right over here. So leave it
- 22:41Speaker 2: to the to the a's to be the trailblazer here
- 22:43Speaker 2: and trying something like this out. But I think it's
- 22:46Speaker 2: it's gonna be a thing. And to your second part there,
- 22:50Speaker 2: it's going to really mess with my investments in MPB
- 22:52Speaker 2: baseball cards because my scouting has not got to the
- 22:56Speaker 2: high school level yet. I'm still kind of in the
- 22:59Speaker 2: early uh in the high miners type of type of
- 23:02Speaker 2: deal here at best. Uh, that rookie Sasaki guy, I
- 23:06Speaker 2: could see him coming for a few years away. But
- 23:08Speaker 2: that's about my my MPB A depth at this point.
- 23:11Speaker 2: So it's really gonna gonna hamper my attempt to find
- 23:14Speaker 2: the next rookie Sasaki. Uh but don't don't worry. Still,
- 23:19Speaker 2: next year, move to Taka Murakami. Put it down, he's common,
- 23:23Speaker 2: he'll be here.
- 23:24Speaker 3: That's a that's an MLB. The show card too, that
- 23:27Speaker 3: a lot of players like to use too. Well, here's
- 23:29Speaker 3: a masher.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, So don't don't you worry. The investments have
- 23:33Speaker 2: already started. Coolly. I I've got I got the stack
- 23:36Speaker 2: right here by me.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I love it. I can't speak to the the high
- 23:39Speaker 3: school prospects. I coached uh an eleven U baseball team
- 23:42Speaker 3: last year, and my kids got a pretty good little
- 23:44Speaker 3: fastball and a two seamer, and he started fiddling around
- 23:47Speaker 3: with a knuckleball. So that's about as far as I
- 23:49Speaker 3: go for prospects.
- 23:50Speaker 2: But usually years from that one with the open days,
- 23:54Speaker 2: just keep.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Them on the keep him on the program, I guess.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Or all those open Dynasty like Universe players out
- 24:01Speaker 1: there that you know they roster people's like ten year
- 24:04Speaker 1: olds and stuff like those are crazy leagues.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Well, there's gonna be people that are dropped in showcase
- 24:09Speaker 3: kid probably next year.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So it's true that's a good point.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Hey, when you're still measuring a month, so we'll see
- 24:15Speaker 3: how she goes.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, uh well, yeah, you hinted a little bit
- 24:20Speaker 1: at the baseball cards there, Brew and I'll hit it
- 24:22Speaker 1: on the schedule here real fast. You can see these
- 24:26Speaker 1: releases in our show notes along with anything else that
- 24:28Speaker 1: we're talking about. I'll have links to the news and
- 24:32Speaker 1: other information that we just discussed, as well as all
- 24:36Speaker 1: of the details for who we're going to pick here
- 24:38Speaker 1: for our ale lease preview, and then you can also
- 24:41Speaker 1: check out rasball dot com for the corresponding post that
- 24:44Speaker 1: goes with this podcast for the baseball card calendar. If
- 24:48Speaker 1: you're in those show notes, you'll notice that the this
- 24:51Speaker 1: week as we're speaking here, on January twenty second, we've
- 24:54Speaker 1: got Tops Transcendent coming out, and then on the twenty fifth,
- 24:56Speaker 1: we've got Tops Diamond Icons, two sets that I will
- 25:00Speaker 1: never ever touch in my life because they're like thousands
- 25:03Speaker 1: of dollars a box that they're really high end stuff.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I've been watching some of the Transcendent get opened today
- 25:09Speaker 1: and it's been their magnificent, their beautiful cards, but it's
- 25:13Speaker 1: totally out of anybody's price range. That's going to be
- 25:15Speaker 1: on the ras Ball podcast, that's for sure, And so
- 25:19Speaker 1: I guess I shouldn't presume, Matt, but I assumed that
- 25:24Speaker 1: you'd be working at a better shop than Rasball if
- 25:26Speaker 1: you for these types of breaks.
- 25:30Speaker 3: I'm not retired anytime soon.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Then we also have on February twelfth, Panini three
- 25:38Speaker 1: and two coming out that will actually be the twenty
- 25:40Speaker 1: twenty four set, and then in twenty twenty five sets
- 25:44Speaker 1: are going to start dropping. On February fifteenth, we've got
- 25:48Speaker 1: the set date for Top Series one. BRU. You missed
- 25:51Speaker 1: out on our discussion last week on the design. I'll
- 25:55Speaker 1: check in just see like what your initial thoughts were,
- 25:57Speaker 1: because I'm digging twenty twenty five.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I'm lukewarm. I'm lukewarm. I was so and you heard
- 26:04Speaker 2: we talked about two weeks ago. I was so in
- 26:06Speaker 2: for a full color picture, bordered border kind of a
- 26:10Speaker 2: lot seventeen twenty eighteen. I was looking forward to that.
- 26:13Speaker 2: I thought we were going to get it, and then
- 26:14Speaker 2: we got borders again. It's better than twenty four. I
- 26:18Speaker 2: will definitely give you that. As much as I tried
- 26:20Speaker 2: to defend twenty four tops, but I saw I'm lukewarm.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I'm giving them a B to a B minus on
- 26:29Speaker 2: the design this year because they still missed the boat
- 26:32Speaker 2: and going back to the full color days or just
- 26:36Speaker 2: going straight to the eighties for fun.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and then, Matt, what about you you playing to
- 26:41Speaker 1: RiPP any of this series one when it comes out
- 26:43Speaker 1: on February fifteenth. I don't know how many cards you're
- 26:45Speaker 1: you're normally ripping or what are any other thoughts you
- 26:48Speaker 1: have here on this tops new release.
- 26:50Speaker 3: My dad's the baseball card guy. He's gotten binders and
- 26:53Speaker 3: binders and binders. But I can totally get what you're
- 26:56Speaker 3: saying about having a little bit of a better graphic
- 26:59Speaker 3: and those eighties cards. I think it was DVR last
- 27:02Speaker 3: week was when he was talking to you. I think
- 27:04Speaker 3: he said his favorite one was that Griffy Rookie card.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Was it?
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yes, the eighty nine upper deck.
- 27:08Speaker 3: It's such a good card and things. I mean, if
- 27:11Speaker 3: if they go back to things like that, as far
- 27:13Speaker 3: as they're the way they've set it up. The graphic itself,
- 27:16Speaker 3: I mean, that's those are lovely. I like those, but
- 27:19Speaker 3: the more color the better. Yes, ask my kids, they'll
- 27:21Speaker 3: be the same way. Yeah, or any of those anime
- 27:24Speaker 3: ones too that you've seen those. They love those ones.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and yeah. So Rookie Sasaki won't be in
- 27:32Speaker 1: Series one, but I'm sure he'll be in Series two
- 27:34Speaker 1: at this point. So that's going to be a pretty
- 27:37Speaker 1: big chase as we get into twenty twenty five tops.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll have lots of more news as we
- 27:42Speaker 1: get closer and closer to February fifteenth. So with that,
- 27:46Speaker 1: I think we should turn the corner now into our
- 27:48Speaker 1: Ale East preview. So this is our second straight year
- 27:50Speaker 1: of doing divisional previews. What we're gonna do is we're
- 27:54Speaker 1: going to go through team by team in alphabet order
- 27:58Speaker 1: by city name, which is how I sort all of
- 28:01Speaker 1: my baseball cards. That's how I came through and decided
- 28:04Speaker 1: that this would be the method to the badness. We
- 28:07Speaker 1: do have Matt here to help us out with all
- 28:09Speaker 1: the insights because he watches so much a lease baseball
- 28:12Speaker 1: with his Toronto Blue Jays. But what we're gonna do
- 28:15Speaker 1: is we're going to pick from each team for each
- 28:18Speaker 1: person a buy in a cell, which is pretty straightforward.
- 28:22Speaker 1: We're going to just look at the ADP data from NFBCS.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I'll have mindset to beginning of January through today. So
- 28:31Speaker 1: if you're doing different, you can just let me know.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I don't think they've shifted too much, except for maybe
- 28:35Speaker 1: like Sasaki and the Santanderus have probably started to move around,
- 28:39Speaker 1: But there haven't been any really other significant injuries or
- 28:43Speaker 1: anything that have happened since, you know, especially the big
- 28:47Speaker 1: draft started kicking off. But we'll do the buy and
- 28:50Speaker 1: sell from each team just at their price, and then
- 28:53Speaker 1: what we're also going to do this is new this
- 28:55Speaker 1: year is just kind of like a quote unquote prospect
- 28:57Speaker 1: pick to click that it doesn't necessarily have to be
- 29:00Speaker 1: somebody who is in the minors, but you know, a
- 29:03Speaker 1: younger player who is up and coming in his career
- 29:07Speaker 1: that we're looking to make a leap in value for
- 29:10Speaker 1: keeper in dynasty situations that you want to get in
- 29:13Speaker 1: on the ground floor. That's the type of kind that's
- 29:15Speaker 1: the type of player that working at So anything from yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 1: somebody that just signed, like you know, Roki Sasaki or
- 29:23Speaker 1: Shatara Moorri all the way up to somebody who's you know,
- 29:27Speaker 1: a twenty six year old and triple A waiting for
- 29:29Speaker 1: his shot to come. So we're gonna kick it off
- 29:32Speaker 1: here with the Baltimore Orioles, who had a disappointing twenty
- 29:36Speaker 1: twenty four. I would say they still were not able
- 29:38Speaker 1: to win a playoff series. And I would say a
- 29:42Speaker 1: pretty disappointing off season two considering that they've lost Corbyn Burns,
- 29:46Speaker 1: really haven't shored up anything after that. You know, did
- 29:50Speaker 1: sign Charlie Morton, but nothing else really too much going on.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Still the same logjam that we ran into last year
- 29:57Speaker 1: on this team in terms of lots of pro bats
- 30:01Speaker 1: on the corners and the outfield that don't have a
- 30:03Speaker 1: place to play, and we've got lots of other guys
- 30:08Speaker 1: coming through the system between is a Jackson Holiday's time
- 30:11Speaker 1: to shine? Is Samuel Bossaio gonna make it a jump?
- 30:14Speaker 1: And then they've got just a crop of other young
- 30:18Speaker 1: bats coming through the system. Pretty barren on arms. So
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's gonna be an interesting season for the Baltimore Orioles.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Should probably be a playoff team or project to be
- 30:29Speaker 1: a playoff team again. But we're focused here on the
- 30:32Speaker 1: fantasy side. So Matt, I'm gonna kick it over you
- 30:35Speaker 1: first to see who is your buye from the Baltimore Orioles.
- 30:38Speaker 3: All Right, I'm gonna start right off with the national
- 30:42Speaker 3: bias here and go right and I don't mean the
- 30:46Speaker 3: Nationals team bias.
- 30:48Speaker 1: But the good old bias.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah, the old red and white maple leaf. We're gonna
- 30:55Speaker 3: go with a gentleman who is a brand new oriole
- 31:00Speaker 3: right handed bat that hit over thirty bombs last year,
- 31:03Speaker 3: and he was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. And if
- 31:08Speaker 3: I get him anywhere, I'm praying that he stays healthy.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Mister Tyler O'Neill, I think would be my buy. There's
- 31:17Speaker 3: tons of stuff that I think. I mean, number one,
- 31:20Speaker 3: if he's healthy, A lot of things they're pointing in
- 31:23Speaker 3: the good direction for him. That left field walls coming in,
- 31:26Speaker 3: which means it's probably almost as much fun for him
- 31:29Speaker 3: to aim at that as it was aiming at the
- 31:31Speaker 3: Green Monster last year. It looks like he's in the
- 31:35Speaker 3: one eighty to one ninety overall range. I'll gamble that
- 31:41Speaker 3: on that power all day. In a fifteen team league
- 31:43Speaker 3: as a third outfielder, yeah, I'd be all over that.
- 31:47Speaker 3: He might even chip in a half dozen steals because
- 31:50Speaker 3: he does have a little bit of wheels providing, like
- 31:52Speaker 3: I said, providing he's coming in healthy. The hard hit
- 31:56Speaker 3: rates are through the roof, I think as ninety eight
- 31:58Speaker 3: percent tile and hard hit rates. Unfortunately, with a basher
- 32:03Speaker 3: like that, the strikeout percentage and the whiff rates are
- 32:06Speaker 3: probably what you'd expect, like pretty ugly, but he's a
- 32:12Speaker 3: classic banger. He's on the right side of thirty barely
- 32:15Speaker 3: twenty nine. And you said it. That line up so
- 32:20Speaker 3: many good players there, whether you're going with the younger
- 32:23Speaker 3: ones or the ones that have been around a while.
- 32:26Speaker 3: So I think he'll be insulated in a lineup like that,
- 32:29Speaker 3: probably back close to the middle around your gunner Henderson's
- 32:32Speaker 3: and another guy that catches that might be showing up
- 32:36Speaker 3: on my list in a couple of minutes.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. That this
- 32:43Speaker 1: is a great landing spot I think for Tyler O'Neal
- 32:46Speaker 1: in terms of team situation. And I mean he was
- 32:50Speaker 1: in this division last year, so he has some familiarity
- 32:52Speaker 1: with kind of the travel schedule and the ins and outs.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I mean, I think all players are now, but like
- 32:57Speaker 1: it certainly does help to be able to stay in
- 33:00Speaker 1: division and just know your opponents you're going to be
- 33:02Speaker 1: seeing all the time. So this was a great pick, right,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I think in the range where it is somebody who
- 33:08Speaker 1: you can see jumping up significantly considering he came off
- 33:13Speaker 1: of a year of thirty one bombs. Brew is what
- 33:17Speaker 1: do you think about Tyler O'Neal here, I'm gonna try
- 33:21Speaker 1: my best and not let my.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Bias come into this one. But there's one stat with
- 33:26Speaker 2: Tyler O'Neal I always want to watch, and it's the
- 33:28Speaker 2: first pitch swinging percentage, which was almost a career best
- 33:33Speaker 2: last year. Because when Tyler O'Neill's is good, he's not
- 33:37Speaker 2: swinging it literally everything that comes at him, and when
- 33:40Speaker 2: he's bad, he's swinging it. Literally everything comes back like
- 33:43Speaker 2: and if you look at his like good seasons, bad
- 33:45Speaker 2: seas like literally that's the only stat that changes. And
- 33:48Speaker 2: so I think Tyler O'Neill, if he's comfortable, he's fantastic,
- 33:51Speaker 2: he's he's scary, he can do all those things. If
- 33:54Speaker 2: Tyler O'Neal's not comfortable in for a long year, and
- 33:57Speaker 2: that's I think the ADP has that that uncertainty built
- 34:01Speaker 2: into him, he can be like one of the few
- 34:04Speaker 2: guys that strikes out a third of the time and
- 34:06Speaker 2: is incredibly productive because he whiffs it all the bad thing.
- 34:09Speaker 2: He chases things like crazy, but also doesn't hit them,
- 34:13Speaker 2: and so like, it doesn't matter how hard you hit
- 34:16Speaker 2: the ball if you can't if you can't hit it,
- 34:18Speaker 2: as long as you're just hitting the one in the
- 34:19Speaker 2: middle of the plate. So I think O'Neill is exciting.
- 34:22Speaker 2: I think he is a good value right now. He's
- 34:26Speaker 2: also a roller coaster and you just I'll be watching
- 34:29Speaker 2: that first month of the season and if he is
- 34:30Speaker 2: swinging at that first pitch way too much, I'm shipping
- 34:33Speaker 2: him out. If he is patient, I'm buying.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Yeah. The thing that the hell thing I'd be the
- 34:38Speaker 3: most worried about is he he's one of those guys
- 34:40Speaker 3: that will go after it out in the outfield. So
- 34:43Speaker 3: maybe with Santandera being gone, that's one last guy that
- 34:46Speaker 3: they're trying to slide into the DH rolls. So hopefully
- 34:50Speaker 3: he doesn't die for a ball and end up coming
- 34:52Speaker 3: up with bones and wrong places.
- 34:54Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, okay, brew who is your pick here
- 34:59Speaker 1: for Baltimore?
- 35:00Speaker 2: Well, Matt gave me the perfect perfect transition there. I'm
- 35:04Speaker 2: picking the guy. I think he is not in the
- 35:07Speaker 2: starting lineup right now. But because of the outfield, I
- 35:09Speaker 2: think he's got to be uh Heston Kerstad is the
- 35:12Speaker 2: guy I'm going with here. He he his ADP is
- 35:17Speaker 2: so low, he's free. It's a three sixty three and
- 35:21Speaker 2: I'm not doing the math to figure out what size
- 35:23Speaker 2: the league you have to be to actually draft him.
- 35:26Speaker 2: But the kid raked in the miners like you can
- 35:29Speaker 2: never see it. He never spent like a full season
- 35:31Speaker 2: anywhere in the miners. He was always just jumping around
- 35:34Speaker 2: between double A, triple A the majors like he was
- 35:37Speaker 2: just bouncing around. But when he had a full season,
- 35:40Speaker 2: I mean, he was a twenty five to thirty power bat.
- 35:42Speaker 2: He consistently hit three hundred, and he just hasn't gotten
- 35:47Speaker 2: an opportunity to play consistently at the major league level.
- 35:50Speaker 2: That's what it takes for a number of these guys.
- 35:52Speaker 2: So I think he's gonna be one of those that
- 35:55Speaker 2: finds the spot. There's gonna be injured, lets him in.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Even if not, I think he's gonna be up in
- 35:59Speaker 2: that one of those kind of super utility outfield roles.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Maybe a little time at first base DH but then
- 36:04Speaker 2: he's gonna kind of play across the outfield. So I
- 36:06Speaker 2: think he's gonna play five or six days of the
- 36:08Speaker 2: week because if you look at their bench, like he
- 36:10Speaker 2: is by far the best hitter on that bench, nobody
- 36:13Speaker 2: else on that bench can't hit. And that's saying, you know,
- 36:17Speaker 2: like I could hit, but that doesn't matter. So I'm
- 36:21Speaker 2: really interested in Heston Carestadt. I'll own him in quite
- 36:24Speaker 2: a few spots because I think he's gonna be a
- 36:25Speaker 2: sneaky value and he's definitely that kind of like snake
- 36:28Speaker 2: draft at the end of the end of the draft
- 36:30Speaker 2: or first guy off the free agent pile that I
- 36:33Speaker 2: would not be shocked if you if we're talking about
- 36:36Speaker 2: top one hundred hitter next year, because it's just a
- 36:38Speaker 2: matter of playing time and kind of figuring things out,
- 36:41Speaker 2: which he's done the same thing the miners. He's figured
- 36:43Speaker 2: it out, and really it's just that crowded outfield. So
- 36:46Speaker 2: Heston Karstad and you heard it here.
- 36:48Speaker 1: First, Yeah, I think this is a great pick, going
- 36:51Speaker 1: three point thirty seven on average three thirty nine. It
- 36:54Speaker 1: looks like in the current draft champions, I clearly can't
- 36:57Speaker 1: read it ADP data, so yeah, but I mean I
- 37:00Speaker 1: think that like it's a great spot because that is where,
- 37:05Speaker 1: like if you've been drafting a lot of consistency and
- 37:08Speaker 1: you need an upside play, you can see the guys
- 37:11Speaker 1: around him are all just kind of like those boring
- 37:13Speaker 1: like Isaiah Kiner for Leffa Jose Miranda, where you're trying
- 37:17Speaker 1: to plug a spot as opposed to playing upside, and
- 37:20Speaker 1: that's great I think for kurs Ed there, I'm just
- 37:24Speaker 1: going to get into to my buy, which we've covered
- 37:27Speaker 1: an entire outfield here. I'm going with Cedric Mullens as
- 37:29Speaker 1: my ye mostly because he's actually going right in that
- 37:32Speaker 1: range of Tyre O'Neal maybe like twenty five ish picks later,
- 37:36Speaker 1: like two twenty five. But a reason that I really
- 37:39Speaker 1: picked it up to is that, like when you look
- 37:41Speaker 1: around that group of who they're both going around, it's
- 37:44Speaker 1: just like injury question marks or guys who are you know, fading,
- 37:50Speaker 1: or guys who have platoon issues players like Kerry Carpenter
- 37:58Speaker 1: Helio Ramos is in that you've got Nick Cassianos in
- 38:03Speaker 1: that range. And so what I like about Cedric Mullens
- 38:06Speaker 1: is that he provides a really good floor for stolen bases.
- 38:10Speaker 1: He's currently rated about like eight or nine dollars and
- 38:14Speaker 1: a twelve teamer on our RAS ball Player Raider, And
- 38:17Speaker 1: so I think it's also like you can see the
- 38:20Speaker 1: pathway to where he can find more value between boosting
- 38:24Speaker 1: the average a little bit, which he should be able
- 38:27Speaker 1: to do with the speed, and you know, creating a
- 38:31Speaker 1: little more value with homers. But like he's pretty much
- 38:34Speaker 1: a lock at this point for fifteen and thirty. If
- 38:36Speaker 1: you're just kind of draggon in homers, he can pull
- 38:39Speaker 1: it together for you from that draft spot. And on
- 38:42Speaker 1: top of it all is this feels like the first
- 38:44Speaker 1: year in a couple of years where there aren't questions
- 38:46Speaker 1: about what his role is going to be on the Orioles.
- 38:49Speaker 1: There's no other center fielder on this roster except for
- 38:52Speaker 1: Tyler O'Neil, and I don't think the Orioles want to
- 38:56Speaker 1: send him out to center field after spending all that
- 38:58Speaker 1: money on him. So he's got the playing time to himself.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Ross Resource currently has him in a strong side put tomb,
- 39:05Speaker 1: but I mean he's been facing more lefties and his
- 39:08Speaker 1: platoon partner is either Ramon Urias or Daz Cameron. So
- 39:13Speaker 1: I'm not terribly worried about Mullens being able to possibly
- 39:16Speaker 1: outperform them.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna dissent here just because I'm done with
- 39:22Speaker 2: Cedric Mullens because there's been like three years in a
- 39:23Speaker 2: row that I've thought it's worthwhile, and just purely out
- 39:28Speaker 2: of principle, I just can't do it anymore. It doesn't
- 39:30Speaker 2: mean you're wrong by any analysis. This is just pure
- 39:33Speaker 2: I'm done. I can't take it anymore. But you're right whether
- 39:38Speaker 2: there's a floor. He's that kind of guy that if
- 39:40Speaker 2: you've drafted average early, he's the kind of guy that
- 39:43Speaker 2: you can you can dip into. If you did not
- 39:45Speaker 2: draft average early, you are gonna regret it with Cedric
- 39:49Speaker 2: Mullens because he's gonna hit two thirty and fill out
- 39:51Speaker 2: those counting stats. So I think Cedric Mullens has a
- 39:56Speaker 2: place if you've drafted a certain way, but that's not
- 39:59Speaker 2: gonna be on my team just because I'm over it. Yeah,
- 40:04Speaker 2: Centric Mullans and Michael Harris, I'm just over them after
- 40:06Speaker 2: the last like two three years of like it's gonna happen,
- 40:08Speaker 2: it's gonna be there. So previewing Atlanta in the East here,
- 40:14Speaker 2: I'm selling Michael Harris already.
- 40:16Speaker 3: I always fall on that trap. Like you said, though,
- 40:18Speaker 3: like if you've got a little bit of power, you've
- 40:19Speaker 3: proven it and you've got some stolen base. When you
- 40:22Speaker 3: get into those that area that you're talking about in
- 40:25Speaker 3: those two hundreds, it's like, Okay, well there's this guy
- 40:28Speaker 3: that's that'll be good in RBIs and home owns, but
- 40:32Speaker 3: nothing else. Or there's this guy that will hit for
- 40:34Speaker 3: high average but nothing else. So at least you know
- 40:37Speaker 3: you're getting I mean, you don't want to say twenty
- 40:40Speaker 3: twenty for sure, but you're gonna be getting fifteen to
- 40:42Speaker 3: fifteen probably, which is better than a lot of those
- 40:44Speaker 3: guys down there. But I, like you said, I guess
- 40:46Speaker 3: it depends on the build and if you have faith,
- 40:49Speaker 3: or if you ever did have faith.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I guess you had too much faith in the past.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's still some cine marks where I've
- 40:57Speaker 3: been burned a few times by some guys too, and
- 40:58Speaker 3: I'm exactly the same way. So don't worry.
- 41:02Speaker 1: All right, Well, we picked three different players, so we're
- 41:04Speaker 1: on we're on pace for forty five different picks here.
- 41:07Speaker 1: But I know, I don't know if it will keep up.
- 41:09Speaker 1: But brew is mullent your cell or do you have
- 41:13Speaker 1: a different one.
- 41:14Speaker 2: You would think, so with with that reaction, but it's
- 41:18Speaker 2: this one's gonna hurt you more than Ecentric Fallin's. I'm
- 41:21Speaker 2: selling Felix Bautista.
- 41:22Speaker 1: That's mine.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Oh no, okay, because you've loved that guy in the past.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I have, So I'm selling Felix Bautista. Pretty pretty easy,
- 41:31Speaker 2: easy reason why he's this year's Edwin Tsuh coming back
- 41:35Speaker 2: from injury gave you a heart attack the entire season.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Wasn't quite sure what's gonna happen, uh with with the results.
- 41:41Speaker 2: And so the thing that I look at with with
- 41:45Speaker 2: him is he has a pretty high walk rate. He's
- 41:49Speaker 2: like creating around like that for walk per nine and
- 41:54Speaker 2: his best pitch is one hundred mile an hour fastball.
- 41:57Speaker 2: And you're coming back from that surgery. It's gonna take time.
- 42:00Speaker 2: It's gonna take time for that to create back. And
- 42:02Speaker 2: if that steps down, then the slider steps down, and
- 42:05Speaker 2: then everything's hittable. And then he's trying to work around
- 42:07Speaker 2: the edges and he's walking and everybody like it's a
- 42:09Speaker 2: snowball effect. He's going he's the eighth closure off the board,
- 42:13Speaker 2: and I will I was taking out like this fifteenth
- 42:15Speaker 2: closure off the board. I will not own him anywhere,
- 42:18Speaker 2: And it's nothing against the talent. It's just coming back
- 42:21Speaker 2: from that injury. He needs a ramp up, and I'm
- 42:25Speaker 2: I'm worried about this more from a reliever than a starter,
- 42:27Speaker 2: because you have one inning. You have to come in
- 42:29Speaker 2: full bore, and that's that's gonna be tough. So I'm
- 42:34Speaker 2: selling Phillipspatiste. Did I seal all of your talking points?
- 42:37Speaker 1: No? Actually you didn't that. Like one of it is
- 42:41Speaker 1: the price, like he's costing the fifty seventh pick right now,
- 42:44Speaker 1: which is absurd coming off of a Tommy John surgery.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Didn't even really make it back at all. Last year.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Before he went down at the Tommy John surgery, the
- 42:53Speaker 1: walk rate was alrighty trending up at eleven percent. So
- 42:56Speaker 1: that's the last thing that comes back for TJ returners
- 42:59Speaker 1: is that control. And then on top of it, the
- 43:02Speaker 1: really kind of nail in the coffin for me is
- 43:05Speaker 1: there's a pretty solid bullpen behind him between Sir Anthony Dominguez,
- 43:09Speaker 1: Yen your Cano, Greg Risoto, Andrew Kiddridge have all had
- 43:13Speaker 1: closing experience. So if things don't look right with Bautista.
- 43:17Speaker 1: They can pull that rug out real quickly.
- 43:20Speaker 2: In Baltimore, we we agreed for the first time in
- 43:25Speaker 2: like a month on a player. So hey, they're going.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Yet, Yeah, you guys are on the same page. I'm
- 43:32Speaker 3: just sitting back and off. I'm gonna make some hardcore
- 43:38Speaker 3: Baltimore fans not too happy right now. But I will
- 43:40Speaker 3: with your also say that there's nothing not that. I
- 43:44Speaker 3: don't think he's going to be listening to this, but
- 43:47Speaker 3: if he does, I apologize to Athley Rutchman because that's
- 43:51Speaker 3: my cell No. But I like a great player, don't
- 43:55Speaker 3: get me wrong, and I had him in our whole
- 43:58Speaker 3: mixt league last years. Is there such a thing as
- 44:03Speaker 3: catcher value? I mean, this guy's going You said fifty seven?
- 44:08Speaker 3: Did you say for Batista Rutchman's sixty? First, overall, I
- 44:14Speaker 3: don't want to take a catcher that high. Twenty homers
- 44:17Speaker 3: projected seven yarbis that's nice. A two sixty average is
- 44:21Speaker 3: nice ish, depending on what other to ten average guys
- 44:25Speaker 3: you're looking at. But it's that again. I don't want
- 44:29Speaker 3: to sound like a broken record because I think I
- 44:30Speaker 3: say it again a little bit later too. But there's
- 44:32Speaker 3: certain areas of that draft. If we're doing a straight
- 44:35Speaker 3: draft where I don't want to touch a catcher in
- 44:39Speaker 3: the first hundred picks overall for sure, So sixty first
- 44:44Speaker 3: overall is a little too steep for my blood. But yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 3: like the age is good, but I'll go after other
- 44:52Speaker 3: quieter guys that might surprise the contact or power that
- 44:55Speaker 3: I can get one hundred and fifty picks later that
- 44:57Speaker 3: might come close to at least the homers and and
- 45:00Speaker 3: maybe not necessarily the average, but those other counting stats.
- 45:04Speaker 3: I mean, for one hundred and fifty picks later, I'll
- 45:07Speaker 3: take somebody else.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think the struggle with with with Adleie
- 45:11Speaker 2: is he if you look at all catchers in the league,
- 45:13Speaker 2: he is the one that has the best pure swing
- 45:16Speaker 2: and best pure upside that he could put it all together.
- 45:20Speaker 2: And you know, if if he went three hundred and
- 45:23Speaker 2: thirty ten steals one hundred rubies, I would not be shocked.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Like he has the skill set to do that. But
- 45:30Speaker 2: I think we're paying the draft price like he's gonna
- 45:33Speaker 2: do that. And that's where it breaks down because like
- 45:35Speaker 2: he's kind of taking a step back. He took a
- 45:37Speaker 2: step back last year compared to twenty three from some
- 45:40Speaker 2: of the underlying metrics, and so I think I think
- 45:42Speaker 2: you're right, Like it's you're just paying and Catcher's gotten deep.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Relatively speaking, we're not. We're not back in the Jonathan
- 45:49Speaker 2: Lucroy days, as I would like to call him. But
- 45:51Speaker 2: it's it's definitely there's a lot a lot more out
- 45:54Speaker 2: there that if you if you invest in Catcher early,
- 45:57Speaker 2: you've skipped something that you're gonna regret later.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Matt, I'm going to kick it over
- 46:03Speaker 1: to you for your prospect pick to click.
- 46:06Speaker 3: All right, it's funny. I'm glad you said that it
- 46:09Speaker 3: was like a younger player or the prospect guy, because
- 46:13Speaker 3: I put a lot that were like minor league guys.
- 46:14Speaker 3: But then this one, I figured you guys would go
- 46:17Speaker 3: Kobe Mayos, so I stayed away from him. I like
- 46:20Speaker 3: Chase McDermott as well, starting pitcher in that system. I
- 46:24Speaker 3: think I wrote him up one of the early things preseason,
- 46:26Speaker 3: but I went with Jordan Westburg for my young kid
- 46:31Speaker 3: to click. Looks like an everyday job. He's twenty five.
- 46:36Speaker 3: That means I think it still means twenty six to
- 46:39Speaker 3: twenty eight, your prime years as a hitter, so he's
- 46:41Speaker 3: headed in there that direction. Again, I don't want to
- 46:45Speaker 3: show you the rest of my test here, but he's
- 46:48Speaker 3: been being drafted right in the same area as Mark
- 46:51Speaker 3: Biento's mister Junior kem and narrow in that pocket. So
- 46:57Speaker 3: I mean it's in that area where there's a lot
- 46:59Speaker 3: of good third baseman being drafted in that little area.
- 47:03Speaker 3: And I mean it's everything else we've said. Right. If
- 47:08Speaker 3: he can hold off someone like Mayo pushing him for time,
- 47:11Speaker 3: he can play multiple positions. I don't think he's playing
- 47:14Speaker 3: short because they've got Gunner there, but second or third,
- 47:18Speaker 3: depending on like what Mike said about it, does Halliday
- 47:21Speaker 3: stay there and does he hit the ground running the
- 47:26Speaker 3: sprint speeds there. I don't know why he hasn't stolen
- 47:28Speaker 3: basest a major league level. I'm assuming because Baltimore says,
- 47:31Speaker 3: don't run unless your last name rhymes with schmullins. But
- 47:35Speaker 3: I mean it's yeah, I don't know why he hasn't
- 47:38Speaker 3: been stealing bags. I looked it up. Twenty plus stolen
- 47:42Speaker 3: bases twice the miners, and he's been fewer than ten
- 47:47Speaker 3: twice so far in Major league baseball. So I think
- 47:50Speaker 3: he'll be all right. I think he's on his way.
- 47:52Speaker 3: And again, like if he can hold off, if say
- 47:54Speaker 3: Kobe Mayo comes out Gangbusters, it might be an issue.
- 47:57Speaker 3: You might get knocked into a utility and field utility role.
- 48:00Speaker 3: But I think he's primed to have a good season
- 48:03Speaker 3: in twenty twenty five.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. He's I
- 48:07Speaker 1: think one of the if I had to like pick
- 48:09Speaker 1: one player in the entire player pool, where you're just like,
- 48:12Speaker 1: how did we not see this, like third round value
- 48:14Speaker 1: coming a little bit in the way of like Jared
- 48:16Speaker 1: Duran last year. I think Westburg's in that that range.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Great hard hit rate, great barrel rate, one twenty plus
- 48:24Speaker 1: WRC plus all the numbers. He was on pace for
- 48:28Speaker 1: like a high twenties homer total last year until he
- 48:30Speaker 1: broke his hand. That like he's second and third base eligible.
- 48:34Speaker 1: I think this is a great, great fantasy player. That
- 48:37Speaker 1: stats is crazy. It's read all the way up to
- 48:40Speaker 1: the swing speed and it was not so good.
- 48:42Speaker 2: But this is a fun, fun pod. When you bring
- 48:46Speaker 2: Matt and myself together, you get the top one hundred
- 48:48Speaker 2: pictures and top one hundred hitters guys here and I
- 48:52Speaker 2: I was looking at my notes because you know, Matt's
- 48:54Speaker 2: already been posting and I'll start posting this weekend, and
- 48:58Speaker 2: I was going to start with, uh, sleepers or breakouts.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I couldn't decide which, and I'm like, I feel like
- 49:03Speaker 2: I've got this. I looked at my breakouts list, is like,
- 49:05Speaker 2: the first name on the breakouts that's gonna be written
- 49:07Speaker 2: up was Jordan Westburn, So, uh, he didn't make my
- 49:10Speaker 2: prospect list because I'm like, he's he's He's going like
- 49:13Speaker 2: I I've got big, big things for him, So absolutely absolutely.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Are Yeah, who's your pick to click?
- 49:19Speaker 2: Then?
- 49:20Speaker 1: Group?
- 49:21Speaker 2: Well, I went the other way I did. I did
- 49:24Speaker 2: the exact same thing as mad. I'm not talking about
- 49:26Speaker 2: Kobe Mayo because that was the easy one, and so
- 49:29Speaker 2: I I went to, like, what's the what's a prospect
- 49:31Speaker 2: that's kind of fringy. We don't really talk about right now,
- 49:34Speaker 2: but like this time next year we could definitely be
- 49:37Speaker 2: talking about, like he why didn't we see this coming?
- 49:40Speaker 2: And I'm going with Dylan Beaver's no, we don't. We
- 49:45Speaker 2: can't do this again. I'm going with Dylan Beavers, but
- 49:48Speaker 2: top ten ish in the system. He is a toolsy
- 49:52Speaker 2: first round guy. He's got all kinds of things about him. Uh,
- 49:56Speaker 2: if you look at his profile, what he's done, he's
- 49:59Speaker 2: the kind of hitter I love in the minors. He
- 50:00Speaker 2: can do a little thing all over the board. He
- 50:02Speaker 2: can hit for power, hip for speed, hit for average,
- 50:05Speaker 2: not amazing at any of them. But he also is
- 50:08Speaker 2: patient for plate and it seems like he's still growing
- 50:11Speaker 2: into the player he can become. So I think there's
- 50:15Speaker 2: sneaky value here in dynasty leagues, not redraft leagues, but
- 50:19Speaker 2: anything like that. But I think Beavers is definitely a
- 50:23Speaker 2: big part of discussion next year. And I'm taking from
- 50:25Speaker 2: that reaction. I'm not the only one.
- 50:28Speaker 1: No, Yeah, this was my pick too, because honestly, I'm
- 50:32Speaker 1: not a Kobe Mao guy in terms of like the
- 50:35Speaker 1: I think there's something going on to where Baltimore didn't
- 50:39Speaker 1: give him that chance last year because like they didn't
- 50:42Speaker 1: just they did not ever give him a good fair
- 50:44Speaker 1: shake at a job. And I think that there's something
- 50:47Speaker 1: they don't like in the profile. And then maybe he's
- 50:50Speaker 1: got a hole in his swing or something. And I
- 50:52Speaker 1: do think that some of the walk rate stats that
- 50:56Speaker 1: he's put up in Triple A are inflated. By that
- 50:59Speaker 1: aud matic zone a little bit, and I'm just afraid
- 51:02Speaker 1: of maybe the swing and miss in Mayo's game that
- 51:05Speaker 1: I'm not a huge fan of his going forward. I
- 51:08Speaker 1: think the batting average the floor is pretty floory, like
- 51:12Speaker 1: it really kind of goes down. But yeah, I love
- 51:15Speaker 1: Dylan Beaver's. This is the guy who I think is
- 51:17Speaker 1: not talked about enough in our fantasy game that like
- 51:20Speaker 1: he I mean hearkening back right back to Jaron Durant,
- 51:23Speaker 1: I think that's exactly who you're looking at here. Somebody
- 51:26Speaker 1: who can pop twenty homers, steal thirty bases, got the
- 51:29Speaker 1: great pedigree. His last name is Beavers.
- 51:34Speaker 3: Hey, that qualifies as does it not. I don't know
- 51:38Speaker 3: are we close enough there or.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Close enough all right, but I totally agree that I
- 51:44Speaker 1: think this is somebody who it's now is the time
- 51:47Speaker 1: to be picking up him up in Dynasty, because if
- 51:50Speaker 1: there is anybody who starts pushing Bowlin's for the discussion
- 51:53Speaker 1: of trades next offseason, it will be Beavers. I think, Okay,
- 51:59Speaker 1: well you can go.
- 52:00Speaker 2: You can go first with the next team, because I
- 52:02Speaker 2: just I just stole years and we've been spending too
- 52:05Speaker 2: much time together over the last like almost forty years,
- 52:07Speaker 2: but we.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Took a week off and we found the wavelength still together.
- 52:11Speaker 1: So that's that's amazing.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I'll keep skipping around over, over and under and all
- 52:16Speaker 3: of them.
- 52:16Speaker 2: We appreciate a massive This was a really boring podcast
- 52:20Speaker 2: that that's all good.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I got you.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Okay, Well, we're gonna move over to the Boston Red Sox,
- 52:25Speaker 1: who are coming off of a season in which they
- 52:28Speaker 1: went exactly five hundred eighty one and eighty one, made
- 52:32Speaker 1: the huge offseason trade for Garrett Crochet and still in
- 52:37Speaker 1: the market maybe for just other pieces to be able
- 52:41Speaker 1: to add because part of it is that they don't
- 52:45Speaker 1: have Kenley Jansen their closing so right now it's a
- 52:48Speaker 1: split between Liam Hendricks and the world as Chapman, who
- 52:51Speaker 1: is new but in being town it's looking as well
- 52:55Speaker 1: as I mean, they picked up Walker Beeler too. I
- 52:57Speaker 1: guess I should bring that up because that's certainly the
- 53:00Speaker 1: other big signing that they had, and if anything, it's
- 53:03Speaker 1: a little bit almost reminiscent of where the Orioles were
- 53:07Speaker 1: last year too, in terms of there's a bit of
- 53:09Speaker 1: a logjam between lots of prospects coming up through the
- 53:12Speaker 1: Boston system. They've figured out something in terms of being
- 53:15Speaker 1: able to develop hitting the same way that Baltimore did.
- 53:18Speaker 1: I think because we've seen big gains from Roman Anthony
- 53:22Speaker 1: and Christian Campbell here and lots of other players that
- 53:25Speaker 1: are starting to come through this system. So it'll be interesting,
- 53:28Speaker 1: I think, to see how the back end of this
- 53:30Speaker 1: lineup shakes out. But Matt, I'm gonna kick it over
- 53:33Speaker 1: to you to see what year by for is on
- 53:37Speaker 1: this Red Sox team.
- 53:39Speaker 3: All right, well, kind of say the bad news is
- 53:41Speaker 3: it's not Von Grison again. I think, yeah. But getting
- 53:51Speaker 3: back to what you said about the kids coming up,
- 53:55Speaker 3: I didn't take one of the kids, well, I guess
- 53:57Speaker 3: it kind of a he is a kid, but I went, well,
- 53:59Speaker 3: you're a brak you and that's number one. As far
- 54:02Speaker 3: as my caveat. It's dangerous because you've got two very
- 54:09Speaker 3: highly ranked outfield prospects. If those kids impressed in spring training,
- 54:13Speaker 3: I'm thinking at least one is going to make a team,
- 54:15Speaker 3: But you have so many outfielders that can move around
- 54:19Speaker 3: there that it might be tough for him to get
- 54:21Speaker 3: some time. I don't think Yoshida plays the outfield at all.
- 54:26Speaker 3: It sounds like he's mostly going to DH but I mean,
- 54:29Speaker 3: you've got Sedaine out there, You've got Duran out there.
- 54:33Speaker 3: If von Grissom plays left field, that's one spot that
- 54:37Speaker 3: gets taken out there. But yeah, if a bray you
- 54:42Speaker 3: is going to get the bats, I mean, in a
- 54:45Speaker 3: perfect world he gets five hundred and fifty at bats
- 54:47Speaker 3: that he goes twenty twenty with the decent average. But
- 54:51Speaker 3: I'm hoping that those skills kind of shine through. But
- 54:54Speaker 3: it's going to take playing time for him to actually
- 54:58Speaker 3: kind of get it going. And I don't know, maybe
- 55:01Speaker 3: that kind of lights a fire under him, knowing that
- 55:03Speaker 3: those kids are looking for playing time behind him.
- 55:05Speaker 1: So yeah, no, I think this is a great pick.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You put up a one fourteen WRC plus last year
- 55:11Speaker 1: a little bit like Westburg, where not exactly a full season.
- 55:14Speaker 1: In those hundred and thirty two games, only four and
- 55:16Speaker 1: forty seven played appearances. All the projections only have him
- 55:19Speaker 1: for like four sixty to four eighty, So if he
- 55:23Speaker 1: gets in a full season, he'll definitely overshoot any of
- 55:26Speaker 1: the projections. So I think that's a great pick. Brew.
- 55:31Speaker 1: What do you think about Will You're a brave mister?
- 55:32Speaker 1: Top one hundred hitter.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he's always one I've kind of struggled with because
- 55:37Speaker 2: you look at the profile, like he's Like, I don't
- 55:40Speaker 2: why I feel like Will Will You're a brave should
- 55:42Speaker 2: be like a speedster. I don't know why I feel
- 55:44Speaker 2: that way because he's not. He's kind of moral plotter
- 55:47Speaker 2: and he fits in more of that Juno Suarez type,
- 55:51Speaker 2: Gary Sanchez Suzuki and just reading the baseball Savan comparisons,
- 55:55Speaker 2: uh type type of guy, And like that's where I struggles,
- 55:59Speaker 2: Like I'm like, I mean, it doesn't light the world
- 56:01Speaker 2: on fire, but that kind of production hitting like two
- 56:04Speaker 2: fifty two sixty with popping twenty twenty five homers is
- 56:08Speaker 2: actually pretty valuable later in the draft because you're usually
- 56:12Speaker 2: trading off like a two twenty for a thirty homer guy. Like,
- 56:15Speaker 2: so I think it's a it's a it's a wise pick.
- 56:17Speaker 2: It's a great value pick. He's not gonna light the
- 56:20Speaker 2: world on fire, but you're not gonna be disappointed either.
- 56:22Speaker 2: So I think it's an absolutely good, good call.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it reminds me actually a little bit of like
- 56:27Speaker 1: what Lortis Gurriel kind of sunk to a few years
- 56:29Speaker 1: ago in terms of like this is just a corner
- 56:32Speaker 1: outfielder who plays every day. And sure it's not gonna
- 56:35Speaker 1: like the ceiling's not going to be super huge, but
- 56:37Speaker 1: this is the type of player where you saw the
- 56:39Speaker 1: man as your fourth fifth outfield, set it and forget
- 56:42Speaker 1: it all year it plays.
- 56:44Speaker 3: And part of it was his age too. I think
- 56:46Speaker 3: he's twenty five. Yeah, so it's like it looks like
- 56:48Speaker 3: they're gonna hopefully, I mean, hopefully they don't just bounce
- 56:52Speaker 3: him out. He's not huge, he's not one of these
- 56:54Speaker 3: big six six guys rolling in, but twenty five's I mean,
- 56:58Speaker 3: it's a pretty darn good age as far as leading
- 57:00Speaker 3: into his prime years. So hopefully you get see the.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Bouts brew who's hereby Yeah, I this is gonna be
- 57:08Speaker 2: a hypocritical that I wasn't like really really excited for
- 57:10Speaker 2: WILLI or Bray you, And then I'm gonna go with
- 57:11Speaker 2: somebody to be like, really, I'm going to go with
- 57:15Speaker 2: the guy that was once a first round value. I
- 57:17Speaker 2: remember at one point putting his number one hitter overall
- 57:20Speaker 2: my columns, and that is Trevor's story. I'm going with
- 57:25Speaker 2: Trevor story because he is so undervalued for what he
- 57:29Speaker 2: is going to provide. When you talk about Cedric Bullens,
- 57:32Speaker 2: Trevor story is Cedric Mullins just like one hundred picks later.
- 57:37Speaker 2: And that's that's what I think is exciting about him.
- 57:39Speaker 2: He's been so hurt, he's had so much time to recover.
- 57:42Speaker 2: How can he not be healthy? And for those who
- 57:45Speaker 2: listen to the pod, coolly knows this. I have a
- 57:47Speaker 2: problem with drafting what could be out of injured guys,
- 57:50Speaker 2: not so much on the pitching side of the more
- 57:51Speaker 2: on the hitting side. But you know, he looked pretty
- 57:55Speaker 2: gosh darn good in the limited amount of time he
- 57:57Speaker 2: had last year. He like looked like there was an
- 57:59Speaker 2: extra spring in his step. They hadn't been there for
- 58:01Speaker 2: a few years. Like the limelight's gone on a big contract.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Nobody seems to be focusing on him, and he's the
- 58:07Speaker 2: twenty fifth short stuff off the board, Like you're talking
- 58:11Speaker 2: like Jose Cavallero, Dylan Moore, Jordan Lawler type of territory here.
- 58:16Speaker 2: And so if you look back into the season and
- 58:19Speaker 2: he goes fifteen, fifteen, twenty, twenty, hits, hits two forty,
- 58:24Speaker 2: I don't think you're shocked because the talent's definitely there.
- 58:27Speaker 2: The talent's there. Does he stay healthy? That lineup's a
- 58:31Speaker 2: little not as great as it has been in the past.
- 58:33Speaker 2: I don't know, but I will throw that dart for
- 58:36Speaker 2: a two fifty eightyp all day, and if I'm wrong,
- 58:39Speaker 2: I cut him. It's not a big deal. So I
- 58:42Speaker 2: think Trevor story is a bye just because he's so
- 58:44Speaker 2: low and we know it's in there. We know it's
- 58:46Speaker 2: in there. And if you try to add up the
- 58:49Speaker 2: last three seasons when he had about a full season combined,
- 58:53Speaker 2: he hit basically twenty bombs and stole thirty bases. Now
- 59:00Speaker 2: does he get to get that much playing time? Yeah,
- 59:02Speaker 2: well time will tell, But I'll take those restats all day.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I think this is a great pick. He's only
- 59:08Speaker 1: thirty two, like he's been around forever, and I love thirty.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Two going on Troy to Lwitski's thirty seven.
- 59:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 59:15Speaker 1: I do love that he got back from that shoulder
- 59:18Speaker 1: injury last That's a big thing for me. That's it's
- 59:20Speaker 1: crazy he was supposed to be out for a season
- 59:22Speaker 1: and made it back. That that shows a different level
- 59:25Speaker 1: of like working through it and just like preparedness going
- 59:29Speaker 1: to twenty twenty five.
- 59:31Speaker 3: It's like the anti Anthony Rendome.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Yeah a little bit. Who thought we'd mentioned Anthony Rendon
- 59:37Speaker 2: more than at all on the pot.
- 59:40Speaker 3: I don't think he even did.
- 59:41Speaker 1: So, Yeah, this is gonna be more than we mention
- 59:43Speaker 1: him on the Al West Probably.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Yeah, he's my prospect. Click to pick Cooley, where you go?
- 59:49Speaker 2: What was your who's your pot?
- 59:52Speaker 3: That's great?
- 59:52Speaker 1: I am going with somebody else who's kind of going
- 59:55Speaker 1: in the range of Trevor story. Just a couple of
- 59:57Speaker 1: picks before because I can't quit him. Connor Wong, the
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: catcher here for the Red Sox that he's coming off of,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: just like a very underrated great season for a catcher.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: It was thirteen homers, eight stolen bases, two eighty three
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: thirty three four twenty five. In terms of the slash line,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: that was a one to ten WRC plus. It's also
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: like nobody's coming for this job. The job is all his.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: The backup catcher right now on the Red Sox is
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Carlos Narvayas, and obviously they got rid of Teal in
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the offseason. They have Blake Sable and Sebbi Zavala in TRIPAA,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: so they've shown a lot of faith here, I think
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: in Connor Wong in Boston. I think that they like
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: what he just kind of gives them. And if you're
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: just looking for a peer just volume play for catcher
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: this late, I think he's probably like the last guy
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: where if you're really desperate for a C one, Connor
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Wong can be that just because he's playing five times
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: a week and he can provide a little on bases,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: a little bit of power, and on top of it all,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: like the batting average looks inflated by the Babbitt, but
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: he runs well. He knocks it off the monster a lot.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: That that's what's inflating it more so than anything else.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: That he's just a solid baseball player kind of entering
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: his prime right here. That I love Connor Wong as
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: as a catcher Dart.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's one of those interesting ones, especially for a
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: two catcher league where like it's the floor more than
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: the ceiling. Yeah, And that's what's interesting about Wong is
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: like to your point, he's got the job, he's gonna
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: get some stats Like this is the kind of guy
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: I love in those leagues, Like I love to fill
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: my two catcher leagues with like back of the barrel
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: type guys are going to hit two sixty and hit
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: sixty RBIs because like they don't help me, they don't
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: hurt me, and I paid a block like so I
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: think Connor Wong is definitely an interesting one. So I'll
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: buy it with you. I'll buy it with you here.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Well, thank you, well, thank you. Okay, well let's get
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: onto some cells. Matt, who you got for the cell
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: here on the red Sox?
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: All right. I actually wrote this one because I had
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: a feeling when I was gonna say Trevor's story, I said,
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: what's the opposite of the never ending stories? That like
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: the impending ending story? I guess he does. I don't know,
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: but I went with someone else, similar to what I
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: said about mister Rutchmand there in Baltimore, Like I love
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: this guy, but the price is way, way way too
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: much for my blood. Garrett Crochet. He is the fifth
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: overall starting picture as far as NFBC rankings or ADP
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: goes thirty second overall. Again, I've said it once, I'll
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: say it again. I'm not taking a starting picture that
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: high ever, really, and I love the guy, but I
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: said I think I said it in my article on Monday.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Do you remember the last time the White Sox traded
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: a skinny, little left handed starter with a lethal slider
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: to the Red Sox. Yeah, that happened once before. So
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: I don't think the strikeouts will be awesome. But I
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: think you guys I listened to one of the ones
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: either last week or sorry, two weeks ago, I think,
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: and you guys were talking about Crochet a bit and
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: I was not in the whole time. It's the increase
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: in innings. They really babied him, like you know in Chicago.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: And it was funny because I think it might have
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: been the Perts League last year that I had him.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I can't remember where I had him, but I had him,
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: and I was I was right at like a projected
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: inning cap where I wouldn't get any more stats. So
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: I thought, oh, I need somebody that will give me
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: strikeouts but like not a lot of innings, and I
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: was thinking relievers, and I somehow somebody dropped Crochet. I
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: can't remember if it was Perts or not, but but
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: it was. Was it you?
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I dropped them because I couldn't, like I need the wins.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and I was the opposite. I needed like no innings,
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: but I needed strikeouts. So it actually worked out well
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: for me in that league because he was going three
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: point two four four point one innings and striking out
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: eight guys a game, and it actually helped me because
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: I was getting the strikeouts but not really pushing that
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: innings cap. Now, I don't know how much Boston's going
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: to take the leash off of him and say just go,
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: but at thirty two overall, I went three above three
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: below in that ADP. Three people above him were Jackson, Merrill,
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Austin Riley, and Raphael Devers, and then behind him Matt Olson,
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: Manny Machado, Carbon Burns, and Emmanuel Class They were there too,
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: So I mean the starting picture thing, I'm not taking
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Burns there either, but I think I'm taking Meryl Devers
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Olson over him, just because there's that can his arm
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: hold up to that increase in innings that I'm assuming
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: is coming and he throws that well, you know how
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: throw you? How hard he throws it?
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Yeah? All effort? What about like in an auction league
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: versus like the snake league? Are you more interested in
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: crochet in that situation in an auction.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: So it's funny because I've been in the same American
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: league auction for this gives away my oldness, but ninety
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: one was when we started that one, so it's been around. Yeah,
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: it was. It was crazy. We used to do the
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: Baseball America What the heck was it called? Sorry, Baseball
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: Weekly stats out of the back, and guys would like
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: I could go on and on with that league, but yeah,
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: that's how we did it for the first few years,
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: where basically we had to wait for someone to go
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: over to Buffalo to pick up a Baseball Weekly and
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: then do all the stats in the back and crunch
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: all that. But in an auction same kind of thing.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Ours is a keeper league, which I'm sure a lot
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: of people have the same kind of setup, and it's
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: a lot of the old school kind of rotal rules.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: So Crochet is fairly cheap in that league right now
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: because he just held over and not a lot of
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: people been on him last year. I think my pitching
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: spots were all filled in before his name came up,
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: but I'd throw a little bit on him, but I'm
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: sure somebody else in an auction, if it was like
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: a starting day one auction would be throwing more auction
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: dollars than I would, because I'm just worried about that health.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: It's just like the potential health you don't want. I mean,
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: it's the same thing with hitters. Brew you probably say
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: the same thing where you don't want to throw too
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: much of your your bank at one person because if
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: they go down, it's rough. I mean you've got your
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: Otani's and things like that, where yeah, sure I'll throw
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: thirty forty at least at them, depending on the auction
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: purse that you get that you're starting out with. But
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: with Crochet, I don't know as far as auction goes,
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: maybe like fifteen bucks somewhere around there. But every room
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: is going to have someone that's going to go even higher.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah all right, Brew, who's your cell
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: here on the right, sox.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so let's let's keep it in the rotation, because
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: why not, that's where we want to be.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I'm going to go down this year unfortunately.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: Well yeah, I mean I I I could, I really
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: wanted to, and so actually I'm gonna go Nick Peta.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: I'm no kidding aside because you know, yeah, I'm going Nick,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: yeah yeah, but I got a final place to to
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: put him. So I'm I'm putting him as a red
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: sock and I'm thunder like, yeah, you stole my thunder
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: completely and I had to look like did he sign
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: all of a sudden and I and I didn't, didn't
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: catch everything. But yeah, I'm going with him because you know,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: he rejected the qualifying offer, but he's still like per
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: you know an FBC data, He's still the red sock there,
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: but going with you know, he's his career high and
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: wins his ten His best year A in his career
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: is four point oh four. He's never been in the
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: threes eight seasons, but yet we're treating him like a
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: number four or five starter in the in the fantasy league.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Like he's going before guys like he's going right with
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: like Nathan Yuvalde, McKenzie Gore, going before like some one
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: of our favorite Suspenser Raghetti, Uh you know his his
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: quasi quote unquote teammate Taane or how Brandon Woodruff coming
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: back from injury. You go down the list, Nicoladolo, Ranger,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Suarez Cutter, Crawford, Kumar Rocker, Like there's all kinds of
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: guys there that Coveta has all this crazy skills. He's
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: like Yadi Diaz on the mound where you hope for
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: the best and then just nothing never happens, like it
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: just it just doesn't happen. So you stole my thunder.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: I'm putting Nick Paveetta back on the Red Sox because
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: I can, and I'm then taking him back out because
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: I don't want them. So Nick Movetta is my myself.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Don't put him on the j's please please, he'st Canadian too.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: There's been whispers, but no, no, no, thank you, no thank
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: you no.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Yeah, now with a with a comp pick attached to him,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I'm still surprised he turned that down because we're talking
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: about that.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: I'm like, how in the world, with that profile, how
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: in the world you turn this down?
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. Okay, Well my cell is Saddan Rafaela
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: and so it's partly priced. So like right now, he's
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: going like one hundred and seventy five range, so part
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: of is like around him, You've also got like Dansby Swanson,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: Bryson Stott, Tommy Edmond Middland fielders that actually provide you
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: a pretty good floor where Raffella I think last year,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: even though he did put up a really nice season
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: for you where he went fifteen homers and nineteen stolen bases.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: I think that might end up being his career year.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: He just doesn't impact the ball very well. He doesn't walk.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: He put up a seventy nine WRC plus, currently slated
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: to hit ninth for the Red Sox. And when you
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: just kind of see and read the tea leaves of
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: who's gonna get squeezed out of this lineup when they
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: need to bring up Roman Anthony, they need to bring
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: up Christian Campbell, Raffella is the easy guy to squeez
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: him out of center field, put him on the bench
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: so they can become a utility player. That it's gonna be.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: I think the floor here could be really really significant
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: in terms of like something like five and ten with
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: like just really minimal stats that especially if you're in
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: any draft and hole situation, it's really risky to go
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: with Rafella. And yeah, it's just a lot of capitally
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: investing in him that I don't see how he comes
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: anywhere near what he put up last year.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted I wanted to. I was trying to
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: look at the stats here. I wanted to call him
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: like diet Alberto MONDESSI just because Gray would not appreciate
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: that to a degree. I remember, I still I think
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: it was one of my first years right in the
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: site when Gray was like putting modesty on a pedestal
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: and I was like putting him in all my bus columns.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: I've not brought that one up since because he busted.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: But you look at it behind the scenes, like the
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: only thing he does well is run, and he just
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: ended up giving a little lucky in the power and
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: so there's just nothing else there. So I think you're
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: right like this it was probably a career year, but
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: because he's young, he's kind of it was kind of
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: exciting to watch play. I think people expect growth, but
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: if you look into the covers that like, uh, there's
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: nothing here. What is comp on baseball Savant uh Mundo.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: So yeah, that's court, Like.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: That's what I mean. I'm passing over like one of
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: your boys in Addison Barger Barger here and you know, see, yes,
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: like some of the guys, but like it's it's pretty questionable,
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: uh pretty questionable here, uh with with what you get there.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: So that the only thing I saw with him was
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: like a what if situation which you're not gonna like
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: to hear brew But so what if just maybe Trevor
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: Story gets hurt, that's what it takes and they have
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: to move him back to short and but that but
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: I mean, even if that happens and you open up
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: a spot in the outfield for the other guys, then
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: that might be enough to just open it up and
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: have him totally tank, like Mike saying, So, I mean,
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: sometimes opportunity shows you the true colors. So I don't know,
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: hopefully if he does have those plate appearances he actually
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: does does Okay.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, who are you gonna go with per year
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: prospect pic to click there? Group?
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: Well, I really wanted to to really completely abuse the concept,
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: So I was gonna go with guy on the team,
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: free agent and the guy that was traded. But we'll
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: wait to talk about Kyle Teal later.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: So I'm mean I'm gonna we didn't talk about Kobe
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Mayo on the Oriels, but I'm gonna go there. I'm
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: gonna go there with Christian Campbell, uh for the Red Sox.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: I don't think you can because that he has had
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: such a meteoric rise and like it, it's one of
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: those that he he was that that toolsy guy had
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: like all the talent in the world. And then he
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: made a change and he started to actually put the
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: ball in the air, get some lift, and actually put
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: a little muscle behind it. And the results are starting
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: to come, and he's got that body for it. Like
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: all the things are starting to click and you can
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: start to dream on the guy and that's what's exciting.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: It's not the number he's putting up. And he kind
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: of reminds me, and this is a stretch of a
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: comp that I'll explain it why he kind of reminds
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: me of Francisco Lindor back in the day when he
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: came up. When you looked kind of at the stats
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: of Lindor and the miners, they didn't like jump off
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: the page. It wasn't like he was doing things, but
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: it was the way he was doing it. It was
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: the way he was conducting himself and the way he
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: was growing and figuring things out. That's what it kind
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: of feels like with Campbell here. And so I think
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: that they're you know, if I'm gonna go back to
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: my Trevor story comment, I think the bigger problem for
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Trevor story is a guy like this, figuring things out
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: and forcing his way. And so I think this is
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: the guy that he's gonna have so much helium. I'm
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: probably not for going to own him, but you can't
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: argue why he has that helium. So I like to
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: go deep. I like to go outside the edges. Gives
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: better to pod content. But I can't not talk about
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: Christian Campbell.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: Was this your pick, too, Matt, I'm inside the edge
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: on that one too. Yeah, he was my pick. I
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: figure like the easy ones Roman Anthony, but this one's
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: easy part two. I mean, for every reason that you said,
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: I said, like the kids twenty two, he's top ten
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: overall in the entire league as far as prospect rankings
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: by MLB dot Com. So and I think, I mean,
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: it's not like you're catching anyone anymore unaware of some
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: of these names, like the way it used to be
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: when we were reading Baseball Weekly. But Steamers only got
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: him projected for three hundred and sixty eight at bats
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: and ten homers and nine steals. So if there's anybody
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: that just looks at projections like that, they might be thinking, Okay,
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: well maybe that guy's not worth my time. But it's
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: it's wild. I said, fifty five hit tool, fifty five power,
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: So it sounds like that. I think you should leave
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: skip fifty five burgers, fifty five hot dogs, fifty five nochals,
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: fifty five hit tool fifty five power, not fifty five
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: speed because it's sixty. And I'll take that all day.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: If it's a keeper league or dynasty league, he's likely
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: already gone and that's gold. But I mean, if you
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: have a deeper league, redraft, I would not be opposed
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: to throwing him down as a reserve outfielder unless he
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: makes the team. Then if he makes a team, you
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: guys know what's going to happen with that ADP. It's
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: just gonna, yeah, light a fire on the bottom and
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: just watch it pop like a bottle rocket, like it's
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: gonna go.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely. Okay, Well, I'm gonna go a little deeper
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: into the minor leagues here. I'm going to go with
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: outfielder Nelly Taylor. So he's coming off his first professional
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: season after getting drafted in twenty twenty three in the
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: eleventh round, small college guy out of Polk State College
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. Across two levels of a ball, he
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: put up one thirteen WRC plus with eight homers and
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: thirty three stolen bases over four hundred and seventy five
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: played appearances. This just kind of goes back to a
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: little bit of what I was talking about with the
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Red Sox have I think found something in terms of
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: being able to get a little extra out of bats,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: And I think this is a guy who honestly reminds
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: me a lot of like a Cedric Mullens kind of
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: mold maybe a little bit worse defender, because I think
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: he's a little bit taller. Let me see his height.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: It is six foot, so actually he's just a smidge
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: taller than Mullins. And so it's a profile of where
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: like I think the peak here is going to be
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: something like fifteen and thirty the way he kind of
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: like almost put that up last year, if not maybe
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: even up more on the stolen bases, where the average
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: is going to be a little middling. But it's kind
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: of like the classic player where in dynasty and keeper situations,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: if you're looking for that guy who can provide a
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: little bit of like a ten dollars value at peak
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: but not have to pay very much for him. It
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: this is I like this type of player because he
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: just becomes really valuable to rounding out your entire dynasty
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: roster when you're trying to make the big moves and
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: make sure that you have like the biggest prospects. Sometimes
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: guys like this, where they just produce consistent value, can
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: be really valuable. Only twenty two and I think another
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: year or two of seasoning in the Boston system, Nelly
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Taylor can really pop coming through because he's just gonna
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: I think he's gonna put up crazy stolen base numbers
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: here coming into twenty twenty five.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's always fun to those those stolen based guys.
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: I feel like it's an addictive thing, like who's gonna
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: be that next stole like the next Scott Patsdnik type thing.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Who's gonna hit well enough? Sorry I had to go
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: to the White Sox.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: I like it.
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: Something, but like who's gonna be that guy that's gonna
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: hit good enough at like two to eighty, steal the
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: bases and do just enough elsewhere? Like those are so tempting.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: So I hope you're right because that'll be fun. That'll
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: be fun.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw you. You're just like in our leagues
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: adding him into all your watch lists.
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: So hey, hey, hey, I mean I've got a big
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: monitor over here. I've got to use it.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: You guys are right in the same waves. See that's
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: how it works.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well, let's move on to the Evil Empire.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: The New York Inkees, coming off of a World Series
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: appearance and another MVP for Aaron Judge, have lost Juan Soto,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: but I think I've done actually a pretty admirable job
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: of filling it in between trading for Jazz Chisholm last year,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: adding Paul Goldschmid, adding Cody Bellinger, and then of course
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: the big signing here is Max Freed coming in on
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: the largest contract ever for a southpaw. Also have Devin
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Williams now anchoring the back of this bullpen, so they're
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: reloaded and ready to go for probably I would say
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: odds on favorite right now for another division champion in
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: the Al East, just given the lack of movement in Baltimore.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: But Matt who's here by here for the Yankees?
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: Well, I hope I don't drop the ball on this one.
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: A little little shot of the Yankees there. I like
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: that fifth thing that we watched. That was nice but
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with I know I said the thing
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: about Retchman and not wanting to pay up for a catcher,
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: but if I'm going to look at Austin Wells, I'm
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: not necessarily paying up for that catcher. He's rolling out
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: around to two hundred overall. I was going to say Jazz,
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: but guy's top twenty five ADP. I don't know. And
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: it's like I said, a couple of these things, I
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: gonna sound like a broken record, but some of these
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: guys i'd be worried about health. Jazz is one that's
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: been hurt a few times before. So I'm going to
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: go right back to Wells and just say, if I'm
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: obligated to draft a Yankee, if I have, that's the
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: guy I'm going to take as maybe not in a
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: one catcher league because there's so much available, but in
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: a two catcher league, I'm looking at that at two hundred.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: All day long, they picked up other players, so he's
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: probably not going to be cleaning up like he was
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: originally projected way back in November. But he was a
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: first round pick. He doesn't have a whole lot of
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: competition for playing time. He's twenty four years old with
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: a bit of power. His walk rate, what eleven point
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: four walk right, that's eighty nine percentile. I'll take that.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: I mean, if you're getting on base in that kind
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: of lineup with all those bashers around you, your scoring
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: runs and there's going to be people on in front
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: of you. So yeah, two hundred overall I would. I'm
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: going to look in at Austin Wells.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. Great second half. I think he's
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: going to be a streaky hitter. But when it's all
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: said and done at the end of season, slid catcher.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't argue since Austin Wells is my bye
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: as well for thee when you have to when when
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: you have to go there, to go there. And the
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: only thing I'll add, because I agree with everything that
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: you said, the backup is Alex Jackson. This is the
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Connor Wong argument we just had and so it's it's
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: the same thing. So I can't agree more. He's that
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: perfect guy in the two catcher league and even in
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: a one catcher league if you just want to bail,
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: like grab a guy like him at the end, like
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: you're not going to be too disappointed. Like it's that's
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: kind of what like Tyler Stevenson was last year, Like
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: you just throw him at the end and end up
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: very happy. So I think Wells is a great pick there,
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: especially because I agreed with it and picked him two.
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: Make it three, Make it three, Mike, let's go. No.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: I did consider Austin Wells, but I'm going with the
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: pitcher here. I'm actually gonna go with Clark Schmidt. So
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: he's going around to twelve in the a DP right now.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: I think he's just going to be underrated because the
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: overall projections. I'm not sure if they're just like dinging
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: him too much for the old home run like rate
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: that he used to have or what's going on, but
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: it is I think not quite picking up the production
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: that he did last year because he limited hard contact
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: really really well. I don't know if it's just like
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: he was leaning more on that slider and just has
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: found more of his groove. I mean, the slider did
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: increase by stuff plus year over year as well. And
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I think on top of it too, the concern with
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: Clark Schmid has always been if he's a tweenyer in
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: terms of how long he can pitch, how many innings
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: he can pitch. Is he in the bullpen or in
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: the starting rotation? They should have a six man rotation
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: in New York that I think that's going to go
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: a long way for Clark Schmidt going forward, even if
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: you get like the one hundred and forty innings out
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: of him that the projections have him slated for. OOPSI
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: has him had a three fifty six er right now,
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: which I think it's probably right in the ballpark. This
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: is a guy who's coming off of a two eighty
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: five era, a three fifty eight FIP. He's really rounded
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: into a great pitcher. And especially it is really hard
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: picking up strikeouts late in drafts, after like the first
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Tennish rounds or so. And I don't know if you
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: get a better opportunity right now than Clark Schmidt to
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: be able to add somebody who can punch out nine
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: to ten per nine.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is a good pick. And just
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: even look at him right now as you talk about it, like, yeah,
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: I think he looks even more interesting than I originally thought.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: And I think the biggest tell is that the Yankees
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: were trying to get rid of Marcus Stroman. They clearly
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: believe in Clark Schmidt more than Marcus stroman part of
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: my bit and payroll. But either either way, like they
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: clearly believe in him. He's still that right age, you know,
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: there's no reason to hold him back for and first
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: round or all those things kind of kind of click.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: And so he's relatively reasonably priced, Like that's that kind
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: of the deal, kind of guy that's going to be workhorse,
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: give you innians and not gonna hurt you anywhere on
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: the back back in and I don't he's not kind
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: of be blowing up on you either, Like that's that's
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: really ideal for that late late starter in your your draft.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: Well, and his innings were pretty suppressed last year because
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: of like a long long term injury, but it was
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: a lot. It wasn't like it was his arm, so
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: that almost works in his favor. It was what one
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: fifty eight is that what it was two years ago?
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: Thirty threw one and only eighty five innings last year,
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: So I mean it's like I said, it's not an
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: arm issue. So and he came back September and it
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: looked like he was fine. So I mean that's I
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: think that's a great pick.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: All right. Well, let's get into some cells. So, Matt,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: who are you picking for your cell in New York?
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: I was gonna be mean, and I was gonna say
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with Anthony Rizzo again because I remember
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: how much flak I got last year. Because I know
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: you guys are Antony, or at least one of you
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: is an Anthony.
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: River one of us.
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: Yes, it didn't work out.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: It's hot now if you go after Goldie weren't.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how a territory around this podcast.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: I got a younger kid that will hopefully be going
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: after gold gold Spit at some point, but we'll get
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: to him after. Yeah. I said to sell Jazz as
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: far as the draft castles, that's all it is. I
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: get it. If volpe Flops is a leadoff guy, maybe
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: you could end up with Jazz at the top of
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: that lineup. And me saying sell him is not smart
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: because maybe he absolutely does everything and he stays healthy
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: and the speed's there and he could make an absolute
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: mess at the top of that Yankee lineup if that's
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: how it went. And twenty five looks like a bargain,
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: But I'm just conservative on that one because of the
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: injury risk. I looked at some names there you've if
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: you're looking around twenty fifth overall, that's Freddie Freeman, Jared Duran,
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: and a guy named Ronald Lacuna. So I'm gonna go
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: there instead. I think, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: So I'm just gonna take this segment off because Matt's
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: said taking two picks of line, and he just I
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: think he's gonna take my third as well. So good job, Matt.
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: I'm so glad you're here. It'll be a year before
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: you come back. Now you're out.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: Mentioning Anthony Rizzlo next year again too, So don't worry.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: You're absolutely right. Jazz is just not worth it. The
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: guy's only he's five major league seasons. You don't really
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: count twenty twenty. He's had sixty games, he's had one
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: hundred and forty seven games. He the guy's gonna probably
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: play eighty ninety games, and that's what it is, and
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: it's just not worth it. It's not worth it. Early round,
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: you gotta go floor, you gotta go floor, and you
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: called it Freddy Freeman like something like that. Ronald Acunya.
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: I mean, there's upside double what you're expecting from jezz Chisolm.
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: I'm not saying Akunya is going forty seventy again, but
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: I mean been there before. So anyway, great pick. We'll
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: just skip me cooly on you.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, uh mine. Actually we talked about when he got
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: moved here in the off season a little bit. Devin
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Williams is my cell. I mean, I know that the
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: ADP data that we're looking at is a little skewed
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: because in NFBC Draft champions you need to get a
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: closer early. So he's currently going right around fortieth off
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: the board, which is woof that is rich. That's you know,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: late second round. He's coming that back injury scares the
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Bejesus out of me, and I don't think it's gonna
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: heal up well. It never seemed to like kind of
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: work in his favor only through twenty one and two
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: thirds innings last year. The Yankees ride their bullpen hard,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: and especially not only physically but mentally. Pitching in the Bronx,
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: I just don't know. It's so different than pitching in Milwaukee.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: It worries me. The pressure that he's going to be under.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: It kind of is a little bit like Feux Bautista,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: where if Devin Williams runs into any bumps boom. Luke
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: Weavers right in there, Tommy Kainley's right in there. They're
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: gonna figure something out that they don't have time for
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: Devin Williams to figure it out in the Bronx.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: I love Devin Williams, but I think Luke Weaver might
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: be the better pick in the Bronx is here, Yeah,
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: considering draft price, I think so.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Yeah, And I thought about him too, But like you
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: said it, you look at fortieth overall and it's not
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: Holy smokes, like, no way not if there's that many
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: question marks, He's so such a good picture. I think
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: Grace had it a few years ago. I can't remember
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: who it was that he was talking about, but he's like,
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: back injuries are the one thing that don't really go away. Yeah,
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: they'll stick with you for a long time. And it's
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: not like he's a younger guy either, So take it
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: from someone who's had some injuries as an older dude.
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: It's they don't just disappear. Yeah, So I think, like
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: you said, there's too many, too many question marks in
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: the boxes there for for a fortieth overall pick.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, who's your prospect pick click Matt Well.
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: I I think all three of us probably didn't go
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: with Jason Domingez because that was the easy one. Maybe
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: one of you did, I don't know, So I just
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: went with the left handed version of Tyler O'Neal, which
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: is Spencer Jones. Like I said, I would pick Dominga's
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: any day if it was between the two of them,
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: but the outfield eligibility might work against them. They've got
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: a pretty solid three out there with Bellinger, Judge and
- 1:29:31Speaker 3: Jason Dominguez Jazz. I'm assuming he's gonna play third. I
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: don't really know if you make a lot of room
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: for Trent Grisham, but he's getting paid quite a good
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: chunk of money, so he'll see some outfield time toos.
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: But just meaning that I don't think Spencer Jones breaks camp.
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: But something that I thought was kind of funny, I
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: was looking at Steamer. I don't know if you guys
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: looked at his projection and Steamer. The good news is
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: Steamer is the only projection that has projections for him.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: The bad news is it's one plate appearance with pretty
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: nasty walk crate and strikeout right.
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but how's it? Project him for a two to
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: fifteen average, though, that's what I want to know.
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: Yeah, with one plate appearance, I don't know what's going
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: on there, but I think if he gets called up,
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: I think he gets more than one plate appearance. I'll
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: lag my head on that one. But yeah, Jason's the
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: redraft pick for sure. But in keeper leagues, I'm still
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: a believer. He's a big dude. He's athletic. He's not
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: just a big, huge mass that just kind of twists
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: his hips like well, I guess gen Carlo does a
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: little bit more than twisting his hips as far as
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: hitting home runs. But yeah, that's fifty five power grade
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: with athleticism. Those guys aren't like a dime a dozen
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: and the steals are there in the minor leagues too,
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: So hey, gold Schmid's on a one year deal, so
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: if he's gone, maybe that opens up space. I don't
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: want to say what first basement they might pursue in
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: free agency, because there might be one from a city
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: that is near where I am that I wouldn't be
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: too happy to see. But we'll cross that bridge later. Yeah.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: No, I think this is a solid pick considering where
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: his price has probably fallen in dynasty leagues that if
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: there's any time to buy Spencer Jones, it is probably now. Actually,
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: VP I think had them outside their top one hundred
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: prospects overall, because I think that's also going to help
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: you here too, that I don't know if the fielding
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: is going to be great from Jones, but the bat
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: I think can still be there. And as long as
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: you don't need the batting average and you can kind
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: of go with the Adam Dunn of this profile, then
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: it's usable.
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: Yeah, like I thought Joey Gallo too, like it if
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: in Bottom's out, it bottoms out like, yeah, not good.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: But ye, I traded in a keeper sty league this
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: this offseason, threading away and it's just because that, like
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: the range of outcomes and I had other miners guys,
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: that's probably one of the bigger parts of it. But
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: like the range of outcomes here on Sincer Jones is
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: like Aaron Judge to Joey Gallo type of thing here,
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: and that's like that's just fun to invest in. But
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: also the roller coaster I'm just not quite sure I'm
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: ready to go with. But like into this year, he
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: will not be the same rating it'll be worse or
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: better by a significant amount.
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: And it's almost you you almost want a guy that
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: goes the opposite way, that has the contact already, but
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: maybe not the power that you're hoping he'll grow into.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: You don't really grow into contact. It's either it takes
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: a little bit more to kind of work at that.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: I think. So, yeah, you're totally right. It's either going
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: way up or he's going to disappear way down.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, brew, who's your pick to click here?
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: Matt did not sweep me, Thank goodness, because when he
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: said first space, then that's where I got a little
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: concerned because I'm going with our good boy Rice ranks
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: and it's and it's I said, we shouldn't despare pull
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: gold spit, but I am is that. You know, I'm
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: the health for for Goldie. I'm just not sure how
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: Well's can hold in there. I feel like he's been
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: hurt for a while trying to work through some things.
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: And Ben Rice, is that really just solid all around player,
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: especially if you're an on base OBP league, like absolutely phenomenal.
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: Like the guy walks like high teens percent of the time. Uh,
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: he walks almost more than he strikes out, he's got
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: mid level power. He's gonna he's probably the kind of
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: guy who's gonna pop twenty twenty five homers, steal five
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: to ten bags, he's gonna hit two ninety, and then
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: you're gonnaut him in the Yankees lineup and so like.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: If he gets that top playing time and gets it consistently,
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: I think you can be really happy with him. And
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: I did not look at his ADP, but I'm guessing
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: it's doesn't exist. Yeah, ben Rice ADP six ninety. Uh So,
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: I'm not suggesting that you go out and draft ben right,
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: but I think he's one of those guys that is
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: going to be in the minors and then as soon
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: as there's an injury where they need a guy that's
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: going from a month or two, I think Ben Rice
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: has a good shot taking that role. So I like him.
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: I like him better on a team where he has
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: lit more playing time because he is now getting up
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: there a little bit for a prospect. He is twenty
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: five for another month, he'll be twenty six when the
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: season opens. Uh So, you know, I expect him to
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: be spending more time on the bench this year and
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: then taking advantaged opportunities, but I could see him running
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: with the job if he gets the opportunity.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great pick that, especially if
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: he can maybe pick up ketral about eligibility again, then
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: be yeah, so much.
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: He said there's a pass.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: Yeah, just going to say that. Do you think he'd
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: catch it all this year? That American League al only
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: that we're in. It's a one game eligibility, yeah, het
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: ga And okay, let's go. This is way back. I
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: remember Jermaine Die played short for one game and there
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: was a dude in our league that tom it short
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: for like three months. So hey, if Ben Rice plays
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: one or two games a catcher, he.
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: Had had one inning he had won.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: It counts counts tell you that. Yep.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: All right, I'm gonna go into triple A here. I'm
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: gonna go with Yorbert Vivas, who came over actually last
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: off season in the trade for Trey Sweeney and so
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: mostly because like he was coming over and was a
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: little bit of like a sleeper going into last year.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: But Vivs actually took a pitch off of the face
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: suffered an oralfacture early in the season, and I think
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: it just created a total washed out season. That you know,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: this is a guy who is known for his hit tool.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: It's got a fifty five future grade on it on Fangrafts,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: but only hit two twenty five and the miners last year,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: but did manage to swipe twenty one bags, pop nine homers.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: No Caleb Durban in front of anymore in front of
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: him anymore now in the Yankee system. So I think
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: if anything happens with the infield up at the major
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: league level and you can't count on DJ Lemayhew kind
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: of like taking things over, or as Waldo Carbert struggles
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: at third base, I think Vivas comes up pretty quickly
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: left handed, so gives a good shot at being able
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: to pop some easy Yankee Stadium home runs. And so
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: I think, yeah, this is a guy who probably got
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: kind of lost in the shuffle over the twenty twenty
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: four season, but he is entering his age twenty four season.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: That Vivas, I think is somebody who can pop a
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: little bit going into dynasty this year.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: The only thing that I want to call the Vivas is,
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: you know, he only reasons with the Yankees is because
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: the Dodger signed show hey with Tani, So that's why
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: they traded him to clear roster space. So useless information,
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: that's all I'm here for. But'll it's it's it's fun nonetheless,
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: So I think it's an interesting call. He is a
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: really small guy. He's I wish I was just in
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: the shouting range at least with the one seventy one
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: I got him a Hi, don't worry. But so it's
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: I think you're right, he's gonna be one of those
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: that kind of bounces back and forth and it could
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: provide some sneaky value. It's kind of like I talk
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: about Ben Rice like it's it just is it gonna
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: get the opportunity to make it happen, and the skills
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: are there to be useful, all right.
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: And it's not like he has two huge all stars
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: ahead of him either in positionally like you've got guys
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: like Oswaldo or those guys in front of them.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: That's yeah, Okay, Well let's move on to the Tampa
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Bay Rays. Who I mean, they'll still be in Tampa Bay,
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: but they won't be at the Trap this season. So
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: it is going to be I think a fascinating draft season.
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: As we're all kind of adjusting for that. You know,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: they're going to be playing at Steinberner Field down in Tampa,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: which has the same shape to it as Yankee Stadium,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: so should boost left hand and then just kind of
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: boost the overall offense because the trop I think there's
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: something about the lighting inside at the trap that is
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: really just messed with hitters over the years that you
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: can see it in like the Willie Damas numbers when
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: he got out of Tampa Bay and he even like
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: commented on it. I think when players go and visit
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: it is part of the reason why, like the Rays
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: have always had such great pitching is not only their development,
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: but also that stadium has helped them as well. So
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: it's gonna be a little bit of like a I
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: don't know, it's tough to toggle like what we're going
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: to be doing with pitchers and batters here in Tampa.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: Because on top of it all too like if anybody's
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: kind of been down to spring training down there in Florida,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: like the wind at all the outdoor stadiums is bananas,
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: and so I think that that's going to play a
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: big part here for the Rays going forward to that
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: there's gonna be days that they're going to be a
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: great team for DFS hunting if the wind is blowing
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: one way or the other to be able to maxim
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: the pitching or the hitting. But even with all that,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: let's try to focus a little bit here on what
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: we got for standard five by five rodo for the
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Rays going into twenty twenty five. Here, Matt, who is
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: your pick for the buye?
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: His name came up earlier and I got a little
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: bit excited there. I'm going to tell you a full disclosure.
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: I use the Baseball Forecaster quite a bit for my
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: prep stuff, and it is floating around somewhere in the
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: region right now. There it is that's not mine, though
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: I got a different copy that's somewhere around here, but
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: it hasn't. I was supposed to be here a week ago,
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: so I was like, oh, perfect, I'll have plenty of
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: time to look through it. And it's still not here yet.
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: So I'm like, I don't know what's going on. Stop
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: for the border. Probably a twenty five percent tier of company.
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: You're out there hearing us wrong handler, find friend's copy
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: of Come on Baseball Forecaster.
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: I'll meet you at the bridge at Buffalo. So but
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: I went to Stagcast and Steamer for a lot of
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: this stuff because I didn't have the other one too
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: to look at. And oh my goodness, I didn't realize
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: how hot Pepper red and Andy Diaz's stackcast page is. Wow,
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: you said it already. In a new park that maybe
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: offensively boosting a guy that has that kind of hard
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: hit rate gets on base, the average is going to
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: be there. I've said it before about a couple other ones.
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: He's he might lead off in front of some pretty
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: big bangers. I think that he could have not just
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: a repeat of his good years, but I mean he
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: might add on some more homers in a park like that.
- 1:40:47Speaker 3: That's that's what i'd look to as far as price,
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: But also like it always seems like he's underrated to
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: a degree. I mean, maybe maybe not after the first
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: couple of weeks of spring training, but we'll see. But yeah, anyway,
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: that's that's who I would say. As far as a
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: bye goes.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great choice, especially because if
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: he's leading off again, the order got a little bit.
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: Better behind him.
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: If Kiman Near is getting an entire season to play
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: third base there, so I think that's a great pick.
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: Brew.
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: Who's your arby here in Tampa?
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: Yeah, Tampa, I'm going to the rotation taking Taj Bradley.
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: Taj is definitely one of those guys. You know, he
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: dealt with some injury issues and so he missed some time,
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: but he came back and more or less looked like himself,
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: which was really encouraging since he there was questions of
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: how healthy he would be. What I love about Bradley
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: is he's he's got kind of all the pieces working together.
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: Little Homer issue which is concerned to me a little
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: bit more this this season, but he gets the strikeouts.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: He's a ten or eleven K for nine guy. He's
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: a three low threees walk for nine guy, a general
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: keeps the ball on the ground, So all of those
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: things to add up, and he's going pretty gosh darn
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: late in drafts. If I can find where his one
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: ninety nine round it to two hundred and EIGHTYP. He's
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: a sandwich between Zach Effln and Louise Heal like he's
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: he's way back there in the draft and the one
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: last thing I'll throw and Mike knows that I love
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: my stat cast comps. Love going through those the similar
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: pitchers to Todd Bradley based on his velocia movement. Yeah,
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: I'm a moto Garrett Cole, Jared Jones, justin Verlander. I'll
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: I'll kind of let the last one slide, Nick Pavetta.
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: Uh but but you just look at that and like
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: young TODZ Bradley is already comparing to Verlander and Cole
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: and those guys, And I get that they're on their
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: down side of their career, but it's the shape of
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: those pitches is just fantastic. So I think him getting
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: a full season, he's they're not going to hold him
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: back anymore. I think there's a lot that can be
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: coming from him in top forty pitcher, top thirty pitcher.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: I don't have any calms talking about him next year
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: that way.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great breakout picture pick what
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: do you? What do you think, mister top one hundred pitching?
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: I feel like it would be a viscerrated Yea, I'm
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: just like a little nervous Todd Bradley.
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: Are we going on to ourselves already? Or yeah he
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: was myself. Yeah, but it's not it's not all bad.
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: He the talent. But you said it the talent's there.
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: It's there somewhere. But there was a few times where
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: he was one of those guys along with a guy
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: like Mackenzie Gore or Mitch Keller, where every time I
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: would say, okay, yeah, you know what, it's time he's comment.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: There was a few people in the comments early that
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: absolutely roasted me at the beginning of the season, saying,
- 1:43:55Speaker 3: why isn't he up He's got to be up top
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: thirty blah blah blah blah. And then every time i'd
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: move him up a bit, he'd get absolutely torched, and
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: then i'd move him back down and he'd have a
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: he'd rip off like you say, he'd rip off a
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: ten strikeout outing and say, okay, well maybe he's got
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: it figured out. I mean, you don't figure it out
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: in one start. But there was a lot of yo
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: yo ing there for a little bit. He's only twenty three.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: I'm not cutting him in keeper leagues or ditchingham in
- 1:44:20Speaker 3: dynasty leagues at all. If he's cheap, sure, But like
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: you said one ninety two, overall, there are other arms
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: around there that I think I'm probably going to lean towards.
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: But in a keeper league like that's that's gold as well,
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: because I think a kid like that with the strikeout potential,
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: I mean, he's you think he's got to figure it out.
- 1:44:42Speaker 3: He's only twenty three, so I mean I'm talking myself
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: out of making him cell I guess. But based on
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: what you see there, it's funny that he's close to
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: Louis Heel because Louis Heel is another guy that has
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: a huge strikeout right. But the I think I said
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: it my Christmas post there, like the four case per
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: or four balks per nine is it's a pretty nasty
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: rate when you're even if you're dealing with eleven or
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: twelve strikeout right. Yeah.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: And you know the thing that I I do like
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: is it's Tampa. Yeah, if there's if there's somebody that's
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: gonna maybe second to Cleveland, uh, that's is gonna get
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: the most out of it. I think it's Tampa and
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: the fact that they've stuck with them. I like that.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: But you're right, like, I wouldn't be shocked if either
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: of us is right.
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: But I think I think I got out my nose
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: out a joint because I actually made him one of
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: my leads the one week and I've did the whole
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: rise of taj graphic that I so expertly photo shops.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: It's okay, I put Trevor story is number one hitter
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: over all one point. We all make mistakes.
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: I'm just gonna say, it'll be like Gray with with
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: on the Shields or or any of those guys too. Yeah,
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: oh Mond, one of these years it's gonna click. So
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: but this year I'm gonna stay away. So that's the
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: year he's gonna pop for fifteen wins and three hundreds. Right,
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: Yeah, makes sense. That's great.
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: All right, Well we'll go back a little bit to
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: bias because I still gotta make mine. I'm gonna go
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: with Christopher Morel here, mostly because it's it's the price.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: He's going like two hundred and seventy fifth overall that
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: at that price, it's the only other guy who's like
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: down there and might be able to give you like
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty twenty twenty five, going like right next to
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: our boy Joe Adell down there, and so like it's
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: the same sort of profile where like and maybe it
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: is like a weakness in just the way I approach fantasy.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: But also like when this is the cost for Christopher
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Morel compared to last year, Like it cost a draft
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: capital to bring Christopher Morel in because there was so
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: much excitement around him coming off of that twenty twenty
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: three season in which you know, he popped twenty six
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: homers and hit two forty seven. People forgot that pretty quickly.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: And the change of scenery I think it was detrimental
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: to him last year could be beneficial now. Going four
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: much better ballpark to hit in than hitting in the trap.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: That he's second and third base eligible. Should also pick
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: up outfield because he's playing plenty of outfields. So if
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: he's eligible through positions, can maybe give you twenty twenty,
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: can get back to like a two forty ish batting average.
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: That's an extremely useful player to kind of fill in
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: the gaps and can move up in this Tampa Bay lineup.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: You know, right now slotted to hit sixth, but in
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: front of him are Danny Jansen and Josh Low so
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: those aren't world beaters. I think that there's a lot
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: of opportunity here for Morell, who's you know, just turned
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: twenty five, so it's gonna be like his age twenty five,
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: twenty six you know season, I think there's a lot
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: of just great up arrows and certainly, you know, maybe
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: a little more risk in like a draft and hold situation.
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: But given the price, like, it's not gonna kill you,
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: I don't think, and especially at that price in like
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: twelve teamers, if he doesn't perform, you just cut him.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: So I think that it's just it's a great time
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: to get in the Christopher Morel train and then see
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: kind of where you can take off to.
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and a guy with that kind of eligibility, you
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: know how Kevin Cash likes to mix it up and
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: move people around. Any kind of additional eligibility you guy's got,
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: or if he feels comfortable playing him in different spots,
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: that only plays in this favor. So that's a great,
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: great pick. I totally forgot he was there to be
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: honest with you, and yeah, huge power and if he's
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: moving around, I mean that's yeah, at that price, it's
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: it's a really good call.
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: I personally looked at Morella's cell or buy and I
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: couldn't figure out which one it was because I can't
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: figure out what that profile like. He's one of those
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: kind of guys that feels like there's there's a lot
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: of talent there, and the question is can he harness it?
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: And I'm like, I just couldn't figure out, like which
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: one's gonna show up, and so I just left him
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: off the list all together. But there's definitely a lot
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: to look at there and be like, yeah, you can
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: see see where that's going to go. But I think
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: there's a pretty big variation in potential outcomes from rel
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: So it'll be fun to see if Tampa can can
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: harness it.
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, well who is your cell here then? Bert?
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: So I'm gonna stick in the in the rotation and
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: going Ryan Pepio, And it's it's kind of the inverse
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: argument of TODs Bradley. He's going about twenty picks earlier.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: Is Pepio likes to put the ball in the air.
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: Not a good place to have, especially with with what
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: we talked about earlier with the ballpark concerns, and he
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: has no control like I else to put it like.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: He had probably one of his best years last year
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: with a three point three walks per nine, and he
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: consistently throughout his minor league career he was like a
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: four or five walk per nine guy and so it
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: seems like he kind of got the best of what
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: he could. He had a pretty low babe hop last year.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: I just feel like he got kind of lucky. And
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: then his FIP, his ex fIF they're almost more round four.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: It just seems like you're you're projecting. He had somewhat
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: of a prospect pedigree when he's with the Dodgers, and
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: I haven't seen the skill change. I haven't seen that
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: enough in the limited time that he's he's had with
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: with Tampa. So I'm I'm shading away from Pepio because
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: I just don't see the upside to it. I mainly
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: see like you're paying for what you hope that he
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: can do, and you're there's none of the downside baked
- 1:50:27Speaker 2: into the draft price. And so that that's where I'm
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: a little concerned with him. So, Matt, I want your
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: your feedback on this one. Yeah, you worn't quite with
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: beyond tage. You were I'll give you. I'll say that
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: you were against me, but we're well, Pepio, where were
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: you at there?
- 1:50:42Speaker 3: I'm on team brew for that one for sure. He
- 1:50:45Speaker 3: was like my one A one B with Taj. I
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: said it in my thing on Monday. Tampa's rotation, they've
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: got six starters in house, even after they sent Jeffrey
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: Springs to the Sacramento Athletics of Sacramento or whatever they are.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: You've got health questions with McClanahan and Rasmussen. You've got
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: some command issues with Todz even though he throws firebolts,
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: and with Pepiot two it's stamina concerns too. I can't
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: remember exactly what it was. I don't have it in
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: front of me, but I don't think he pitched past
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: seven innings. Maybe once or twice in the last ten starts.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: I think it was.
- 1:51:24Speaker 3: It was something like that when I was looking at
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: the actual numbers and I thought, Okay, it's exactly what
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: you said, Like what you want this guy to be
- 1:51:33Speaker 3: is not what he is right now. So it's I no,
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: I'm not going to go anywhere near that. It's tough
- 1:51:40Speaker 3: because that Tampa rotation is like feast or famine, risk reward,
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: whatever you want to call it. But yeah, like you
- 1:51:48Speaker 3: just you can look at Pepiot. I've got it up now.
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: From May to September, his highest innings total was six
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: point zero.
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: He didn't get an out of the seventh anyone.
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: No, So I don't know. I'm gonna steer clear of that.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: All right, I'll take that. I'll take the confirmation, even
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: if it's biased or not, I don't care. I'll take it.
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: So and if he has a great year, you and
- 1:52:14Speaker 3: I forget that we had this conversation, absolutely.
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: All right, COOLi where yet we're well, I'm gonna round
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: this out and take another member of the rotation. I'm
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: gonna go with Shane McClanahan just because the price coming
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: off the Tommy John surgery is just it's a little
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: too rich for my blood. That like, not only are
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: you looking at somebody who didn't get back on a
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: mound in like any fashion last year, but also in
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: twenty twenty three went down like late in the year.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: So like, it's just there's a lot of variables where
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: I don't like the way that it lines up in
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: terms of he hasn't seen game action again, you know, know,
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: wasn't getting back into my league action last year. The
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: projections are all putting him around one hundred and sixty innings,
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: which his career high before the TJ was one sixty six.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Not exactly like a huge workhorse to begin with, and
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: then even in the off season, the front office was
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: saying maybe one hundred and fifty is innings for Shane McClanahan.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: I would even take that down to maybe like one
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: forty one thirty, and then at that point, just where
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: he's going, he's gone just after pick one hundred. But
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: I mean, I'd rather be just taking bats there instead
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: of having to waste any of my draft capital on
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: Shane McClanahan.
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I personally love Shane McClanahan, but I think you
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: have the rights to be concerned, Like the talent is
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: through the roof, like and that's the thing, and that's
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: what you're you're begging on here, and it seems like
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: you know, he he's got I was looking the variation
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: of that ADP at that point you expect to be
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: pretty tight. It's like almost one hundred and fifty pick range.
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: Like it's it's just divisive. And so I McLanahan could
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: be a top five pitcher, he could be a top
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: fifty pitcher. I'm and I'm hoping for more of the
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: top five because I belie I love when he is
- 1:54:01Speaker 2: that picture, but you're right, like there's a lot of
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: risk there.
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent the same thing, exactly what you're saying.
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: I love him as a player, but it's one of
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: those ones where are you willing to take a jump?
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: I mean, the game we play, you have to take
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: calculated risks and everything because you never know. But if
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: there's all these arrows pointing to maybe not, yeah, I
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: don't think I'm spending that kind of draft capital on
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: him either, even in auction.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: All right, well, let's get into our prospect pick to
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: clicks here, because we got a pretty big system, pretty
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: deep system, Matt, who's your pick to quick.
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: I went with the easy out here and went with
- 1:54:43Speaker 3: our buddy Junior Cam and narrow. Yeah. I think that's
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: the easy choice I was hoping. I said, you know what,
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: I'll go steer clear of the big names for the
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: other ones and then jump in on this one. For here,
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: he should be up right from the get go. I think, Mike,
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: you said it. He's supposed to be cleaning up in
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: that order that different park, maybe not new park, but
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: different park new for them, should be offensively kind of
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: geared Steamer out of all the projections, they have him
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: projected for six hundred and forty three played appearances, so
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: it doesn't get much better than that. He's in the
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: top one hundred overall as far as ADP for NFPC,
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: he's the eighth ranked third baseman and in that ninety
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: two to one twenty block overall. I thought this was
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: kind of neat. You've got five third basement so I
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: don't know what who you guys would take out of
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: these five, but it goes Mark Vantos, Jorton Westberg, Junior, Camerennaro, Royce,
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: Lewis shake Berger. So if you're a rookie Hound and
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: you like the up and coming players and you want
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: to plant your flag on camon Aro in that pocket,
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: yeah yeah, I mean I might still go after a
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: Westberger of Vantos there instead anyway, But that's a pretty
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: good pocket to be sitting right in the middle of
- 1:56:06Speaker 3: the steamer protections have him at just shy of thirty hundred.
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: I think it's twenty nine homers ninety one RBIs two
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: sixty five average. I thought, who's kind of close to that?
- 1:56:19Speaker 3: Do you want to take cam and Arow at like
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: one hundred, or do you want to take someone that's
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: projected for thirty homers ninety seven RBIs in the two
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: sixty eight average, and that's Manny Machado and that's Cam
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: and Arrow's forty picks later.
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: I think, so, yeah, I think common Aro had a
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: little bit of the prospect shine from last year has
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: come off, but he hasn't changed. And so yeah, I did.
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: I didn't go there because it was kind of the
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: Kobe Mayo thing. I had to go there, even though
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: I did it on the Red Sox. But yeah, I
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: can't disagree with you.
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and good thing. I think we're recording this in
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: January because I think he's going to keep rising, that
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: caman Arra's price is gonna keep steadily rising. The Oopsie
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: projection has them for thirty three bombs and a two
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: seventy one average, Like that's like a third rounder.
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: So like it's wild. I just can't stop giggling every
- 1:57:13Speaker 3: time someone says oopsif with a projection, it's like, yeah,
- 1:57:18Speaker 3: it is great.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: But like these projections, I think the bad X is
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: going to come in this in a similar spot that
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: they're gonna be kind of bonkers. And I think, yeah,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: if you're drafting now and you get a chance at
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: Cam and Arrow that late that I think you gotta
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: take it because the upside, I think is when you're
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: looking at kind of like everything he's putting together, like
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: it's almost like vlag Guerrero Junior asque maybe like, well.
- 1:57:43Speaker 3: There is so much hype, and like Bruce said it,
- 1:57:45Speaker 3: like I think a lot of it had to do
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: with just the opportunity, wasn't there.
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, Brew, who's your pick to click here?
- 1:57:53Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna go a little deeper into the rankings
- 1:57:57Speaker 2: here and we're gonna go with Aiden Smith for the Rays,
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: And so I'm trying to look up how far down
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: the list Aiden really is. Aiden MLB Pipeline is the
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: number nine prospect for the Raise and he is a
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: nineteen year old in Single A. He was a number
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: four pick of the Mariners in twenty three. He came
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: over from the Randy Rose Arena deal. First of all,
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: you always get to bump up my list when the
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: Rays once you. That always helps. And second of all,
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: he is kind of what we talked about earlier with
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: speed and average. In twenty twenty four, across to the
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: single A with Seattle and Tampa, he had eleven homers,
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: forty one steals and we got caught six times hit
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: two eighty eight and he walked about fourteen fifteen percent
- 1:58:50Speaker 2: of the time, only struck out twenty three percent of
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: the time, so very very solid, not much lucky in that.
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: So he's very toolsy guy, definitely young for even the level,
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: but still a very projectable body type. He's six two
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: one ninety so you know, being just twenty years old,
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: twenty and a half, there's just a lot more projection
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: you can see with a guy like Aiden Smith. So
- 1:59:15Speaker 2: he's again one of those is across the board really good.
- 1:59:19Speaker 2: I think the power grows, I think the speed slows
- 1:59:22Speaker 2: to a degree, but you know, he's he's gonna definitely
- 1:59:26Speaker 2: end up being one of those ideal kind of Tampa
- 1:59:29Speaker 2: guys over the time of like just really good at
- 1:59:32Speaker 2: a lot of things, which makes him a really really
- 1:59:35Speaker 2: valuable player. So Aidan Smith, I think is going to
- 1:59:38Speaker 2: jump up prospect ranks come into next year. He's not
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: gonna make any difference this year in the fantasy game,
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: but he's probably you're probably looking at a twenty twenty
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: seven kind of ETA here on Smith, but if you're
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: talking Dynasty leagues, he's definitely a guy to be targeting.
- 1:59:56Speaker 3: What's funny. I just called him up too, and it
- 1:59:58Speaker 3: looks like he's got you say, eleven homers and forty
- 2:00:01Speaker 3: one steals last year. And I looked the picture. That
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: looks like Carl Crawford a little bit too. So yeah,
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: he smokes like if that's that kind of guy. They Yeah,
- 2:00:10Speaker 3: he's a pretty darn good player in Tampa for a while.
- 2:00:13Speaker 2: Yep, not too chevy. I was a little deep there.
- 2:00:18Speaker 2: I hadn't done that for a while. So coolly round
- 2:00:21Speaker 2: us out.
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: Stick on that pipeline MLB pipeline top race prospects, and
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: scroll down a little bit. Number twenty one Colton led Better,
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: outfielder and second round pick out of Mississippi State. This
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: dude absolutely annihilated high A last year as a twenty
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: two year old, hit two seventy three, three thirty nine
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: forty four for one thirty WSC plus with sixteen homers
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: and thirty four stolen bases. This I think this is
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: a great profile for somebody who came out of college
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: and could really climb. I think pretty quickly through this
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: system he should open and double and if he opens hot,
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: especially where you look at where the rays are in
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: this division, and just kind of in there, you know,
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: win expectancy curve and what they're trying to do. If
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: he plays hot, I don't see why they can't open
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: up a space for him even all the way up
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: to the major league level going to this year. I
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: don't think he's on a lot of kind of like
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: radars and lists, and there is a little bit of
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: a swing and miss in his game, but like he's
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: a forty future value but value prospect on fangrafts, and
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: that comes with a forty future hit tool, good speed.
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: I think this is just kind of like a classic
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: really quick riser through a system who's kind of just
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: gotten buried within all the bay rays of it. That
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: if he'd done this with another organization, he would be
- 2:01:45Speaker 1: in the top ten prospects lists and would really be
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: on a lot more radars.
- 2:01:51Speaker 3: He said led better. I was gonna ask you if
- 2:01:52Speaker 3: that was a player, if it was a Pearl jam song,
- 2:01:57Speaker 3: that's another outfielder that I gonna have to write these
- 2:01:59Speaker 3: guys down for American League. That's yeah, he's looking pretty good.
- 2:02:03Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, this list goes deep. I could have
- 2:02:07Speaker 1: There's lots of other arms that I like, and lots
- 2:02:10Speaker 1: of other outfielders that it's it's a crazy, crazy prospect
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: like capital that they've got down in Tampa right now,
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: what they're doing.
- 2:02:17Speaker 2: I thought you were going to go with Jackson Baumeister there.
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: I was thinking about it.
- 2:02:21Speaker 2: I thought you were to go there, but you didn't.
- 2:02:23Speaker 2: Come on. But both Bowling Green guys.
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: So yes, Okay, Well, last but not least the Toronto
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: Blue Jays. We've made it here, Matt. We've made it
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: to gree Jays down at the bottom of the division alphabetically,
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: coming off of a last place finish though unfortunately, and
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: it was a tough year, but they're kind of trying
- 2:02:45Speaker 1: to run it back see if they can make another
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: run at the playoffs. I do feel bad because if
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: this team wasn't in the Ale East, like if they
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: were in the Central, this would be like a ninety
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: win team. You're and you're out just dominating. It's a
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: tough sledding out in the East. But we covered a
- 2:02:59Speaker 1: little bit of like where they're going to twenty twenty
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: five early on, so I think we can just dive
- 2:03:05Speaker 1: right into the bye here. Who is your bye on
- 2:03:08Speaker 1: your Toronto Blue days, Matt.
- 2:03:10Speaker 3: So it's gonna be the same one as I had
- 2:03:12Speaker 3: last year. I picked up these two lovely players because
- 2:03:17Speaker 3: I don't want to call them ding dongs everywhere. One
- 2:03:22Speaker 3: of them hit huge, the other one we're not going
- 2:03:24Speaker 3: to talk about because it's beat On's best buddy. But
- 2:03:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna save it for my bye. I'm going to
- 2:03:30Speaker 3: go with old Ladiito there, mister Guerrero Junior. Yeah, we
- 2:03:36Speaker 3: could have an hour, loud long pot on this one alone.
- 2:03:40Speaker 3: I'm sure a lot of people out there. No, he
- 2:03:41Speaker 3: avoided arbitration, signed for twenty eight and a half million dollars,
- 2:03:45Speaker 3: which is great, but it was only for the one year.
- 2:03:49Speaker 3: So I mean, I said it to friends of mine
- 2:03:52Speaker 3: because there's a lot of people talking about it up here. Obviously,
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: I said, I assumed that that number starts at five
- 2:03:58Speaker 3: hundred for him, especially with what Sodo got and what
- 2:04:02Speaker 3: Otani got. I don't know why you don't just maybe
- 2:04:08Speaker 3: not give the guy a blank check by any means,
- 2:04:10Speaker 3: But what do you want and how do we get there? Basically,
- 2:04:16Speaker 3: there's so much talk about the front office up here,
- 2:04:20Speaker 3: a lot of people not too happy, which is I
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: think is part of the reason why they pushed the
- 2:04:25Speaker 3: Santander thing over the line. And again, I don't want
- 2:04:28Speaker 3: to make it all about the front office, but because
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: it is more about Vladen what he can do. But
- 2:04:33Speaker 3: I think a lot of it has to do with him.
- 2:04:37Speaker 3: He's going to be he's a pending free agent if
- 2:04:39Speaker 3: they don't extend him. I don't know. You can talk
- 2:04:43Speaker 3: all about chasing O'tana, you can talk all about chasing Sodo,
- 2:04:47Speaker 3: but signed your own, sign, your own superstar. Send a
- 2:04:50Speaker 3: message to the free agents that you're going to take
- 2:04:53Speaker 3: care of your own and you want to build with
- 2:04:55Speaker 3: that kid. Fantasy wise, thirty home ers one hundred plus
- 2:04:59Speaker 3: RBIs three twenty three average last year, even a couple
- 2:05:02Speaker 3: of stolen bases. I'm going to take that like every
- 2:05:08Speaker 3: time it's available for me in the first or second round.
- 2:05:11Speaker 3: I know, first base without the steals there is probably
- 2:05:15Speaker 3: not the greatest pick in the first couple of rounds
- 2:05:17Speaker 3: because you want to try and get those five category guys.
- 2:05:19Speaker 3: But I'm still gonna go after Vlad, especially if he
- 2:05:24Speaker 3: slips into the second round and I have a pick
- 2:05:25Speaker 3: somewhere around there that it looks good.
- 2:05:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think it's a I think it
- 2:05:32Speaker 1: is like a great pick, just because like, as he's
- 2:05:35Speaker 1: going into his free agency year two, I wouldn't be
- 2:05:39Speaker 1: surprised if he pushes the stolen bases just a tick,
- 2:05:41Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like if he pushes it
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: to ten, it doesn't kill you compared to what some
- 2:05:46Speaker 1: of those other first rounders give you. But mister top
- 2:05:49Speaker 1: one hundred hitters, what do you think about Vlad Guerro
- 2:05:52Speaker 1: going into twenty twenty five?
- 2:05:54Speaker 2: Yeah? What you love about Vlad, Like he's multiple deviations
- 2:05:59Speaker 2: from the meme in multiple things, right, Uh, the average
- 2:06:03Speaker 2: is just unbelievable, Like you can take that to the bank. Yeah,
- 2:06:07Speaker 2: he pitches a few steals, you don't really care about that.
- 2:06:10Speaker 2: He's gonna fill up the stat sheet in the counting stats.
- 2:06:12Speaker 2: And if there's one guy you can look at the
- 2:06:13Speaker 2: basors and say, I just want you to make one
- 2:06:15Speaker 2: change and you're gonna hit sixty bombs. It's flat like
- 2:06:20Speaker 2: he just he And I don't think he's gonna do
- 2:06:22Speaker 2: it because it's he just needs to change the launch angle,
- 2:06:25Speaker 2: but he's too pure of a hitter to actually do that.
- 2:06:28Speaker 2: But just get a little luck on that, and he's
- 2:06:31Speaker 2: got forty or forty five and he's hitting three twenty five,
- 2:06:34Speaker 2: Like that's unbelievable, and that puts you in probably the
- 2:06:38Speaker 2: six to nine uh pick range in that first round
- 2:06:41Speaker 2: if you're doing that, because it's hard to break into
- 2:06:43Speaker 2: the fall without the speed. But so I think Vlad's
- 2:06:47Speaker 2: got a ton of upside. I also think over over
- 2:06:49Speaker 2: the last few years, like everybody thought he was gonna
- 2:06:52Speaker 2: do bore and when he just hit two seventy to sixty,
- 2:06:54Speaker 2: like just couldn't kind of figure those things out. That's
- 2:06:57Speaker 2: really kind of depressed his I mean depressed his saying
- 2:07:00Speaker 2: one thing when he's still going like second round. But
- 2:07:04Speaker 2: like I think it's pushed him down below a few
- 2:07:06Speaker 2: guys that he should go be going before. So I
- 2:07:09Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be hard to grab Lad. I
- 2:07:12Speaker 2: think a lot of people are gonna be in on him,
- 2:07:13Speaker 2: especially the contract year. There's all kinds of things you
- 2:07:15Speaker 2: can go down. You're right. There's an hour long podcast
- 2:07:18Speaker 2: on blag Greer Jr.
- 2:07:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I think, Yeah, I think. And it's great
- 2:07:22Speaker 1: because first base is super thin this year. That like
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: if you can get for a space done with and
- 2:07:27Speaker 1: not have to worry about it, I like that too.
- 2:07:30Speaker 1: So especially yeah, if you're sitting around that turn and
- 2:07:32Speaker 1: can do something like Vlad lind'or or like you know,
- 2:07:35Speaker 1: find somewhere to get your steals. With Flad, you can
- 2:07:38Speaker 1: do a lot of really interesting things. Okay, Brew, who
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: are you gonna go with for your bye?
- 2:07:44Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna go a little little deeper here with
- 2:07:46Speaker 2: with the J's and uh I'm gonna go with their
- 2:07:49Speaker 2: projected d h U for for the season Will Wagner,
- 2:07:55Speaker 2: And I'm I'm gonna, like I said, going a little
- 2:07:57Speaker 2: deeper and uh not because he's gonna set the world
- 2:08:01Speaker 2: on fire, but just because he's gonna be really really
- 2:08:05Speaker 2: solid and you can kind of plug him, plug him
- 2:08:07Speaker 2: in in your middle infield there and not be shocked
- 2:08:11Speaker 2: that you get a three hundred average. You get call
- 2:08:14Speaker 2: it ten to fifteen home runs, maybe ten steals, but
- 2:08:19Speaker 2: really really good counting stats, like for a guy that's
- 2:08:22Speaker 2: what's his ADP, like five thousand, six and four and
- 2:08:27Speaker 2: so like there's just very little downside for a guy
- 2:08:30Speaker 2: that should have an everyday role with with the Blue Jason.
- 2:08:33Speaker 2: So I don't see why he's so far down in
- 2:08:36Speaker 2: that ADP. Yeah, maybe it's the Wagner name. People were
- 2:08:41Speaker 2: looking elsewhere on Hall of Fame ballots. But I really
- 2:08:46Speaker 2: like Will Wagner late in a draft, because you're not
- 2:08:49Speaker 2: gonna find a guy that gives you average and doesn't
- 2:08:52Speaker 2: hurt you like it actually slightly helps you in other
- 2:08:54Speaker 2: areas late that late in the draft, it just won't
- 2:08:57Speaker 2: be there. So Will Wagner's a sneaky value in my opinion.
- 2:09:01Speaker 3: That's a great call. He's the kind of guy I
- 2:09:04Speaker 3: think the Jays looked at him and Barger and said,
- 2:09:08Speaker 3: you know what, we have Horowitz too, so we can
- 2:09:10Speaker 3: afford to move a guy like Horowitz out because we've
- 2:09:13Speaker 3: got two other kids that are similar. I mean, Wagner
- 2:09:15Speaker 3: was one of those pieces they got for Kakuchi from Houston,
- 2:09:18Speaker 3: him low Perfido, and I think it was Jake Bloss,
- 2:09:21Speaker 3: the starting Shawnie pitcher. That's a pretty good haul. Especially
- 2:09:26Speaker 3: I didn't think they'd call him up right away, but yeah,
- 2:09:29Speaker 3: they shuffled him right in the lineup and he did
- 2:09:30Speaker 3: not disappoint.
- 2:09:32Speaker 2: That's a great I'm just excited. We talked about Joey
- 2:09:34Speaker 2: Loberfdo in the podcast because he's a favorite of this podcast.
- 2:09:37Speaker 3: I like that guy too.
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Coolly, where are you at my boy's
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: kind of in the similar like vein of yours, and
- 2:09:46Speaker 1: my guy is going like three hundred and sixties. It
- 2:09:50Speaker 1: is Ernie Clement, partly because like a lot of like
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: the reason he's going so late is that the projections
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: right now all only have for like three hundred and
- 2:10:03Speaker 1: forty plate appearances, which last year he put up four
- 2:10:07Speaker 1: hundred and fifty. I just don't see how he doesn't
- 2:10:10Speaker 1: get to like five hundred plate appearances on this Jay's team,
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: because I think they're pretty much done making maneuvers. And
- 2:10:17Speaker 1: even if you know they do bring somebody else in,
- 2:10:20Speaker 1: I don't know if Clement's spot is really gonna be
- 2:10:23Speaker 1: too in too much of a worry, just because he's
- 2:10:26Speaker 1: such a great utility player. We've talked about this a
- 2:10:28Speaker 1: little bit in terms of like when you were looking
- 2:10:31Speaker 1: at like Josh Rojas, like this is a better version
- 2:10:34Speaker 1: of Josh Rojas, because he's a batting average asset in
- 2:10:37Speaker 1: Ernie Clement makes great contact and you know, when you
- 2:10:40Speaker 1: paste it out to five hundred dish plate appearances, you're
- 2:10:44Speaker 1: looking at a guy who's gonna be like mid teens
- 2:10:47Speaker 1: Helmer's and mid teens Stolen bases with runs. RBIs currently
- 2:10:53Speaker 1: qualifies at shortstop and third base to be able to
- 2:10:55Speaker 1: just patch over the holes in your roster honestly could
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: pick up second base, I think pretty easily too. And yeah,
- 2:11:03Speaker 1: there's just I think a lot that I like in
- 2:11:04Speaker 1: terms of this type of utility player, where especially like
- 2:11:07Speaker 1: he's never going to be a super sexy pick because
- 2:11:10Speaker 1: the savant page outside of like contact rates is pretty blue.
- 2:11:14Speaker 1: But like he's a good, real life baseball player who's
- 2:11:17Speaker 1: going to play every day, hit for like a two
- 2:11:20Speaker 1: sixty two seventy average, and just give you the volume
- 2:11:24Speaker 1: that you need at some crucial positions when you're battling injuries.
- 2:11:28Speaker 3: I think that makes sense, especially when you're saying the
- 2:11:32Speaker 3: the versatility is huge. If anything, they might play your
- 2:11:36Speaker 3: both your guys, they might they might play off of
- 2:11:38Speaker 3: each other depending on what they do at third base.
- 2:11:41Speaker 3: I don't think they're signing Bregman. Bregman to Detroit makes
- 2:11:45Speaker 3: so much more sense for both of them, like for
- 2:11:48Speaker 3: the team and for the player. I mean, so I
- 2:11:50Speaker 3: don't think they're signing Bragmant. The only thing I would
- 2:11:52Speaker 3: say about uh Clement or Wagner's playing time is if
- 2:11:56Speaker 3: Aurelvis uh Martinez gets called up. I know, I don't
- 2:11:59Speaker 3: want to go too much into the young kid names,
- 2:12:03Speaker 3: but that's one where if he comes up early ish
- 2:12:08Speaker 3: he could push people around. You've got Clement and Barger
- 2:12:12Speaker 3: and Wagner looking for it bat So that's the only
- 2:12:14Speaker 3: thing I would say about those guys that, like you said,
- 2:12:16Speaker 3: he's got a good hit tool. At least he's got
- 2:12:19Speaker 3: multiple eligibility so you can move him around a little
- 2:12:21Speaker 3: bit more.
- 2:12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, Well let's get into some cells. Matt
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: who you can go with from the cell on your team.
- 2:12:29Speaker 3: Oh, this one's rough because he just seems I mean,
- 2:12:33Speaker 3: we've never really had a coffee or anything together, but
- 2:12:36Speaker 3: he seems like a really nice guy. So it kind
- 2:12:39Speaker 3: of stinks. I want to say, Boba Schet so the
- 2:12:41Speaker 3: beat on I can be best friends forever. But I'm
- 2:12:44Speaker 3: gonna say George Springer. I love the player. The story's great,
- 2:12:49Speaker 3: he's won a title, so he's got that like veteran
- 2:12:53Speaker 3: presence there that they need. But the health risk is
- 2:12:56Speaker 3: so obvious. He'll still give you fifteen fifteen if he's healthy,
- 2:13:00Speaker 3: but he's thirty five years old. Yeah, I don't know,
- 2:13:05Speaker 3: I think he wasn't hurt at all last year. If
- 2:13:09Speaker 3: if other than just little things here and there, I
- 2:13:13Speaker 3: can't see him playing a full season again. It's just
- 2:13:17Speaker 3: one of those things where it looks like he'll be
- 2:13:20Speaker 3: like Bruce said, Will Wagner's dhing. I think Springer gets
- 2:13:24Speaker 3: a lot of DH time there too, providing he is healthy.
- 2:13:28Speaker 3: But I don't think that he's going to stay healthy.
- 2:13:31Speaker 3: I mean that's the one big thing. Thirty five years old,
- 2:13:36Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't think he stays as healthy
- 2:13:38Speaker 3: as he could. And the batting average is just kind
- 2:13:41Speaker 3: of bottoming out. He was at about two sixty for
- 2:13:44Speaker 3: a few years there, ended up at two twenty last year.
- 2:13:48Speaker 3: So the ball doesn't really get faster, our eyes just
- 2:13:53Speaker 3: slow down a little bit. So I think that's probably
- 2:13:55Speaker 3: what's going on with him.
- 2:13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. It's the batting average. Can you
- 2:14:00Speaker 1: can see it. It could be in the two hundred range,
- 2:14:04Speaker 1: and once that happens, it's a total negative assets. So
- 2:14:08Speaker 1: I think that's a that's a fair one.
- 2:14:10Speaker 2: Yeah. I think he's one of those like it's just
- 2:14:12Speaker 2: broken down. Like he he's always played full out every
- 2:14:16Speaker 2: day and you just look at it. It's just like
- 2:14:20Speaker 2: he's not for lack of trying type of thing, right,
- 2:14:22Speaker 2: It's not lack of adjusting, is just his body's not
- 2:14:24Speaker 2: doing it like it used to. And I actually kind
- 2:14:28Speaker 2: of like Springer for the fact, like I feel like
- 2:14:31Speaker 2: you should get him for evaluating the drafts and still
- 2:14:33Speaker 2: get be able to squeeze out your fifteen fifteen. But
- 2:14:34Speaker 2: then you look at the ADP and it's not really there,
- 2:14:37Speaker 2: like it should be baked in more than what it is,
- 2:14:39Speaker 2: And so I'm actually surprised that he's not a better value.
- 2:14:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's more so the name.
- 2:14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, in all those postseason games too,
- 2:14:48Speaker 1: Like it doesn't show up in like the wear and
- 2:14:50Speaker 1: tear in his regular season line. That he's just is
- 2:14:53Speaker 1: putting so much extra work in the off season to
- 2:14:55Speaker 1: be able to get through every postseason that he did
- 2:14:58Speaker 1: with Houston. Okay, brew, who is your cell from Toronto?
- 2:15:03Speaker 2: Well, I'm sorry, Matt to throw cold water in your
- 2:15:06Speaker 2: new second basement here, but address him Andez is a sell,
- 2:15:12Speaker 2: and it's an easy sell for me. There's just not
- 2:15:15Speaker 2: much much here for the price, especially you look at
- 2:15:18Speaker 2: the second base just landscape this year it's it's really odd.
- 2:15:22Speaker 2: If you look at me, it's like like the top
- 2:15:23Speaker 2: five or six you're like, yeah, I love them, and
- 2:15:25Speaker 2: then like ignore the next fifteen and then get back
- 2:15:28Speaker 2: in in the twenties. Like that's kind of where it's at.
- 2:15:31Speaker 2: And the thing with him and Az is like there's
- 2:15:33Speaker 2: just no power. Like the nine homers hit last year
- 2:15:35Speaker 2: feels like an overachievement and all he can do is run.
- 2:15:39Speaker 2: And he came from a Guardian's team which was like
- 2:15:41Speaker 2: top five and steals is going to like a bottom
- 2:15:44Speaker 2: five seven steals. I get something that's like who's there.
- 2:15:48Speaker 2: But Toronto does not run nearly as much as a
- 2:15:51Speaker 2: lot of other teams, and so you have to think
- 2:15:53Speaker 2: the thirty that he had last year's capped. So if
- 2:15:56Speaker 2: we're talking about a guy that conceivably could go five,
- 2:15:59Speaker 2: twenty and two point fifty and he's going off arguably
- 2:16:03Speaker 2: as a starting and second base from the fantasy game,
- 2:16:06Speaker 2: it just doesn't feel right to me. And like I said,
- 2:16:10Speaker 2: Andres Himenez going one to seventy three and ADP, I
- 2:16:13Speaker 2: will wait and take Colet Keith or Christopher Morel or
- 2:16:18Speaker 2: Jonathan India, Jake cronin Worth and feel like I got
- 2:16:20Speaker 2: pretty much the same thing, like one hundred or more
- 2:16:22Speaker 2: picks later, So uh, throwing cold water and andres Himenez
- 2:16:26Speaker 2: here and uh, I think he probably even gets a
- 2:16:30Speaker 2: boost in the draft rankings because of the new home
- 2:16:34Speaker 2: and new location, which so I'm totally out not gonna
- 2:16:38Speaker 2: be anywhere near my top one hundred.
- 2:16:39Speaker 3: Yeah, totally. I totally get that. We don't track defense
- 2:16:43Speaker 3: in our rotal leagues over here, so I mean that's
- 2:16:47Speaker 3: it's almost like the Dalton Varshow is an outfielder, like
- 2:16:49Speaker 3: he's quick, but he's very great defensively, but that doesn't
- 2:16:54Speaker 3: really count for us. So I absolutely get it. I
- 2:16:57Speaker 3: think honestly, a lot of it is, like you said,
- 2:16:59Speaker 3: him being in a new place, and he was an
- 2:17:01Speaker 3: All Star before, so people are probably going, oh, yeah,
- 2:17:03Speaker 3: I know that name, and then it pushes him up.
- 2:17:06Speaker 3: Uh yeah, I totally get it. They need guys that
- 2:17:10Speaker 3: can get on base and steel bags. But if that's
- 2:17:13Speaker 3: all you're getting with no power and potentially a pretty
- 2:17:18Speaker 3: rough contact rate, yeah yeah, I'm not gonna argue that one.
- 2:17:23Speaker 1: Yeah. And uh, on top of it all too, like
- 2:17:28Speaker 1: where Jim Inez is going, it's definitely like you can
- 2:17:30Speaker 1: see it in the ADP. It's a it's a it's
- 2:17:33Speaker 1: a oh crap, like I forgot to get steals and
- 2:17:37Speaker 1: so they like it. Don't get yourself boxed into that corner,
- 2:17:41Speaker 1: like make sure you're drafting steals before you have to
- 2:17:43Speaker 1: end up with andre h Minez.
- 2:17:45Speaker 2: It's like the weird back to back of like Louise
- 2:17:47Speaker 2: Rison on hundred seven as at that point in the
- 2:17:49Speaker 2: draft of like one Trick Ponies. It's like I didn't
- 2:17:53Speaker 2: eat my second basement and I clearly forgot to do
- 2:17:55Speaker 2: something early in the draft.
- 2:17:57Speaker 3: So like you said, which which oh crap is it?
- 2:17:59Speaker 3: Is it? This winter is at the one?
- 2:18:00Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, you bold up these guys together to make
- 2:18:03Speaker 2: an all star, but if use five of them, that's
- 2:18:05Speaker 2: not gonna work.
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: Exactly, Okay, Well mine is Uh it's unfortunately another new player, uh,
- 2:18:12Speaker 1: this one you signed though, and I'm super brought it
- 2:18:15Speaker 1: up in terms of like the other signings they'd made.
- 2:18:17Speaker 1: But mister Jeff Hoffman, the closer going yeah, going right
- 2:18:23Speaker 1: around picked two hundred uh, was turned down by multiple
- 2:18:27Speaker 1: teams for his shoulder issue on his medical and no,
- 2:18:32Speaker 1: thank you, I don't know if I need to go
- 2:18:34Speaker 1: much further than that. And it's also it follows the
- 2:18:37Speaker 1: other kind of trends of Felix Bautista and Devin Williams.
- 2:18:40Speaker 1: I picked here where it's a pretty solid bullpen behind
- 2:18:44Speaker 1: Jeff Hoffman in terms of other options they have for saves,
- 2:18:47Speaker 1: in terms of Chad Green, Jimmy Mark Garcia, Eric Swanson,
- 2:18:53Speaker 1: maybe even a little bit of like Zach Popp that
- 2:18:56Speaker 1: they've got options to go to. And if Hoffman is
- 2:19:00Speaker 1: showing any sort of issues with that shoulder, given the
- 2:19:04Speaker 1: contract that they gave him, it's not something where they
- 2:19:07Speaker 1: can go out there and just kind of burn through them.
- 2:19:10Speaker 1: That they've got to think about the long term maintenance
- 2:19:11Speaker 1: of Jeff Hoffman's shoulder.
- 2:19:13Speaker 3: Yeah, the physical thing was the one that got me,
- 2:19:16Speaker 3: Like I before, when we were talking about free agents,
- 2:19:18Speaker 3: it was one of those ones where I thought, you
- 2:19:19Speaker 3: know what, maybe somebody signs him and gives him a
- 2:19:22Speaker 3: shot in the rotation. They try and build them back
- 2:19:25Speaker 3: up and make them a starter again. But then when
- 2:19:27Speaker 3: he signed with Toronto, I thought, okay, well there's that's
- 2:19:30Speaker 3: their closer. Probably, like I know, they're going to try
- 2:19:33Speaker 3: and slide him into the rotation. The only thing that
- 2:19:36Speaker 3: was I mean, it was the thinnest silver lining was.
- 2:19:39Speaker 3: They said, oh, well, when he failed or when they
- 2:19:42Speaker 3: had issues with the physical, I guess didn't really fail it.
- 2:19:44Speaker 3: Baltimore said, well, we were still interested in signing you,
- 2:19:47Speaker 3: but we want to sign you for less money, and
- 2:19:49Speaker 3: I guess the Jay said, well, we'll give you this,
- 2:19:51Speaker 3: and he said, okay, I've always wanted to play there,
- 2:19:53Speaker 3: which is funny because that's where he started, right and
- 2:19:56Speaker 3: they got flipped out. I think it was a Tuluwitzky deal.
- 2:19:58Speaker 3: He got sent to Colorado. I say, so, it's kind
- 2:20:01Speaker 3: of full circle there. But yeah, I totally get that.
- 2:20:05Speaker 3: I mean, it's another one that I really love, and
- 2:20:07Speaker 3: I'm like, if he's healthy, that's a great, great pickup.
- 2:20:11Speaker 3: But if he's healthy is in bold giant font with
- 2:20:16Speaker 3: a few of these guys, So yeah, I can't argue
- 2:20:18Speaker 3: that one either.
- 2:20:20Speaker 1: All right, let's get into our prospect to click. So, Matt,
- 2:20:25Speaker 1: who is yours here? From the Blue Jays?
- 2:20:28Speaker 3: There was a few in there that I looked through,
- 2:20:32Speaker 3: but I'm going all the way down past number two
- 2:20:34Speaker 3: eighteen overall, and I'm going to start picking some starting
- 2:20:39Speaker 3: pictures and one that I really like down there is
- 2:20:42Speaker 3: a guy named Bowden Francis. I had to have written
- 2:20:49Speaker 3: him up at least four or five times throughout the
- 2:20:50Speaker 3: season with weekly notes and stuff like that, like I
- 2:20:54Speaker 3: love him as a sleepy kind of arm Yeah, I'll
- 2:20:58Speaker 3: take that to eighteen overall, I was gonna lift list
- 2:21:04Speaker 3: the starting pitchers off above him, below him, But I mean,
- 2:21:07Speaker 3: there's a nice pocket down there all the way through.
- 2:21:11Speaker 3: There's injury risk with a lot of those guys. But
- 2:21:13Speaker 3: like some of the names around there, you mentioned a
- 2:21:14Speaker 3: few of them already, Spencer, Raghetti, Tanner, Houck, You, Darvish,
- 2:21:18Speaker 3: Clark Schmidt, Jose Barrios is behind him too, but like
- 2:21:22Speaker 3: right in that pocket, I might take Burrios there anyway.
- 2:21:26Speaker 3: But I mean, I Bowden Francis had a great end
- 2:21:31Speaker 3: of the season. Took him a while age going, and
- 2:21:33Speaker 3: then he was hurt for a bit. But the last
- 2:21:37Speaker 3: I think it was the last month or two fifty
- 2:21:41Speaker 3: four innings pitched in eight starts. He walked six guys
- 2:21:46Speaker 3: in fifty four innings. He's got a respectable eight point
- 2:21:50Speaker 3: one seven K per nine. I mean, I'm okay with
- 2:21:54Speaker 3: taking him down there, and I think Steamer sells him
- 2:21:57Speaker 3: short too, he's around a five hundred record with a
- 2:22:00Speaker 3: low eight k for nine and they have them between
- 2:22:02Speaker 3: one fifty six one sixty innings. Yeah, I think he
- 2:22:08Speaker 3: probably could end up with a few more wins, but yeah,
- 2:22:10Speaker 3: I'm going with him right around that area.
- 2:22:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I think it is he's being underrated too,
- 2:22:17Speaker 1: just because, like I know that the ground ball rate
- 2:22:20Speaker 1: isn't great, but he does something with the soft contact
- 2:22:23Speaker 1: in terms of like what he can induce there that
- 2:22:26Speaker 1: I think that like his profile is not being picked
- 2:22:30Speaker 1: up correctly in the projections that I think there is
- 2:22:33Speaker 1: a little more meat on the bone for Baden Francis.
- 2:22:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I have to be the dissenter on this one.
- 2:22:38Speaker 2: I get you know me, it's I get Bryce Elder
- 2:22:41Speaker 2: vibes all over the placement out of Francis, Like, you know,
- 2:22:47Speaker 2: lots of luck in the profile does doesn't keep the
- 2:22:49Speaker 2: ball on the ground. And I have a personal principle
- 2:22:53Speaker 2: if you don't strike out at least eight and a
- 2:22:55Speaker 2: half guys for for nine, I just can't go after you.
- 2:22:59Speaker 2: You got at least sniff eight. He was a seven
- 2:23:02Speaker 2: nine nine for the season last year. I get as
- 2:23:04Speaker 2: a starter he was better, but like there's just enough
- 2:23:06Speaker 2: things for me there, like like I'm trusting too much projection,
- 2:23:10Speaker 2: so there's enough downside to me that I'm probably gonna
- 2:23:12Speaker 2: pas some For instance, that said, I feel like the
- 2:23:14Speaker 2: guy's a bulldog. So it's kind of one of those
- 2:23:16Speaker 2: interesting things where you know, he seems to get more
- 2:23:20Speaker 2: out of it, and so when you look at the numbers,
- 2:23:21Speaker 2: you're like, yeah, but he kind of does some of
- 2:23:25Speaker 2: that himself, like he's gonna grit through some of it,
- 2:23:28Speaker 2: so I can't I can't completely throw a cold water
- 2:23:31Speaker 2: on it, but like I look at some of the numbers,
- 2:23:32Speaker 2: I'm like, I just get some vibes here that he
- 2:23:35Speaker 2: could the train could come off the tracks pretty quickly,
- 2:23:37Speaker 2: or or could just he could just keep keep it
- 2:23:40Speaker 2: rolling the whole time. I don't know which it's gonna be.
- 2:23:42Speaker 3: I think part of it is the hope too, that
- 2:23:44Speaker 3: like there's finally a young Jay's Pitcher that's gonna stick around.
- 2:23:47Speaker 3: And I don't want to say the swear word of
- 2:23:51Speaker 3: Alec Manoa here, but that's one. And then Ricky Tiedeman's
- 2:23:56Speaker 3: arm is maybe still attached. I don't know, so I
- 2:23:59Speaker 3: think that's part of it, and people like Jay's fans
- 2:24:01Speaker 3: are like, oh, this is a young kid coming up.
- 2:24:03Speaker 3: He was really successful at the end. Hopefully he takes
- 2:24:06Speaker 3: that next step. So there's like optimism there quite a bit.
- 2:24:09Speaker 3: But but yeah, that would I think a lot of
- 2:24:12Speaker 3: us up here just hoping that this one sticks for
- 2:24:14Speaker 3: a bit.
- 2:24:15Speaker 1: Yeah that's fair enough. Brew who is here? Pick a quick?
- 2:24:19Speaker 3: Uh?
- 2:24:20Speaker 2: So Matt just named him, and now I feel like
- 2:24:23Speaker 2: an idiot. You're going back, No, I'm I'm I'm going. Yeah,
- 2:24:28Speaker 2: I'm going back to the well of And it's it's
- 2:24:32Speaker 2: a real long shot here. I'm going with Teeta Man
- 2:24:35Speaker 2: and hear me out, hear me out. He's this is
- 2:24:39Speaker 2: a guy that has needed the time off. He has
- 2:24:42Speaker 2: been on the precipice of the majors for so gosh
- 2:24:46Speaker 2: darn long with such a high expectations that it just
- 2:24:51Speaker 2: it was almost like he was tearing himself apart trying
- 2:24:53Speaker 2: to get there. And I almost feel like the the
- 2:24:57Speaker 2: year and a half off with the surgery is the
- 2:25:00Speaker 2: the best possible thing that can happen to him. And
- 2:25:02Speaker 2: I feel like he's gonna get back for the last
- 2:25:03Speaker 2: like two months of the season and then he's gonna
- 2:25:05Speaker 2: go to fall ball. The Arizona Fall League or something,
- 2:25:08Speaker 2: and he's just gonna tear it up, Like I feel
- 2:25:11Speaker 2: like that's what's gonna happen with team, and then all
- 2:25:12Speaker 2: of a sudden, we'll be like, but like, he just
- 2:25:15Speaker 2: he was injured the entire time, So we're gonna give
- 2:25:18Speaker 2: him the past everybody used to at least one free
- 2:25:20Speaker 2: time of John, and then all of a sudden next time,
- 2:25:24Speaker 2: this time next year, we're gonna talk about, like, look
- 2:25:26Speaker 2: how dominant he was. He's back. He's the top five,
- 2:25:29Speaker 2: you know, starter in the minors. Like I'm projecting, it's
- 2:25:33Speaker 2: probably unrealistic, but the talent is there to do that.
- 2:25:37Speaker 2: And I've got this outside hope that that reset is
- 2:25:40Speaker 2: something that's gonna do him good because it's happened for others.
- 2:25:43Speaker 2: It's happened for other young pictures before that they come
- 2:25:45Speaker 2: back from that, they actually take their time, they work
- 2:25:48Speaker 2: on the mechanics, and they become better for it. Teeman's
- 2:25:52Speaker 2: got a chance for that, and he's young enough that
- 2:25:53Speaker 2: could happen. So that's it's it's maybe a hope and
- 2:25:57Speaker 2: a wish and a dream. But as soon as I
- 2:26:00Speaker 2: start throwing water onto the Arizona Fall League as my
- 2:26:03Speaker 2: hope that might be a little a little digging deep.
- 2:26:07Speaker 3: It's not just your dream. We're we're hoping for a
- 2:26:09Speaker 3: big bounce back. It's twenty two years old too, so
- 2:26:11Speaker 3: there's been a lot of young guys like that that
- 2:26:13Speaker 3: got their arm entirely reconstructed and it's like, all right,
- 2:26:17Speaker 3: time to go and air it out again. But yeah,
- 2:26:19Speaker 3: I wrote him up early too, before he kind of
- 2:26:21Speaker 3: fell apart t for the Tetaman. It was a little
- 2:26:24Speaker 3: Cat Stevens photoshop there for you guys. But yeah, hopefully
- 2:26:28Speaker 3: wouldn't I would be lovely if those two and he
- 2:26:32Speaker 3: who shall not be named comes back to that would
- 2:26:35Speaker 3: be awesome. But I don't know. I think that's a
- 2:26:36Speaker 3: little too optimistic.
- 2:26:38Speaker 1: But yeah, you can make people get two out of three. Yeah, okay, Well,
- 2:26:44Speaker 1: I think my pick to click here is actually I mean,
- 2:26:48Speaker 1: he was a first round pick just the other year,
- 2:26:50Speaker 1: but it's our June Namala, mostly because I think there's
- 2:26:56Speaker 1: a good chance in dynasty situations that there's people who
- 2:26:59Speaker 1: totally gave up on him. Last year. He was a
- 2:27:02Speaker 1: little bit of like an unknown quantity coming out of
- 2:27:06Speaker 1: high school as a prep bat and went in the
- 2:27:09Speaker 1: first round in twenty twenty three, but he was so underage.
- 2:27:13Speaker 1: He wasn't even eighteen yet when he got drafted, he
- 2:27:15Speaker 1: was still seventeen. He was like the year behind kind
- 2:27:18Speaker 1: of were like, I love, you know, going after this
- 2:27:22Speaker 1: type of player in dynasty leagues because statistically there have
- 2:27:27Speaker 1: been studies on these guys where they just do produce
- 2:27:31Speaker 1: better because they got to such a high level at
- 2:27:33Speaker 1: such a quick age. Carls Korea is in this bucket too,
- 2:27:37Speaker 1: where he was drafted like a year earlier than everybody else.
- 2:27:41Speaker 1: But last year, in his first twenty nine games down
- 2:27:44Speaker 1: at single A, Namala really struggled. He only hit one
- 2:27:48Speaker 1: sixty seven with a thirty four point four percent k
- 2:27:51Speaker 1: rate seventy four WRC plus. They noticed that, you know,
- 2:27:56Speaker 1: things were off mechanically. They sent him back down to
- 2:27:58Speaker 1: the Complex League of refound his stroke there. When he
- 2:28:03Speaker 1: returned back from the Complex League, came back to a
- 2:28:07Speaker 1: ball rest of the way. Fifty three games, hit two
- 2:28:10Speaker 1: sixty five, lowered the k rate to twenty nine point
- 2:28:13Speaker 1: seven six WRC plus. He's big, he's got great hands.
- 2:28:18Speaker 1: He's gonna stick at shortstop. I think, and honestly, I
- 2:28:23Speaker 1: think the Carlos career comp here is what I'm looking at. That, Like,
- 2:28:27Speaker 1: I think that we're going to see a pretty meteoric
- 2:28:30Speaker 1: rise from Namala going through dynasty lists this year. As
- 2:28:34Speaker 1: you know, I think he's probably gonna he could open
- 2:28:37Speaker 1: at double A, but most likely high A and you know,
- 2:28:41Speaker 1: reach double A and then, like you're looking at twenty
- 2:28:44Speaker 1: twenty six, he's got a shot to make the big leagues,
- 2:28:47Speaker 1: and so this is a I think he's a really
- 2:28:49Speaker 1: special talent. I think that the the scouting here for
- 2:28:53Speaker 1: the Blue Jays worked out well, and it's just kind
- 2:28:56Speaker 1: of a matter of getting the reps for Namala and
- 2:28:58Speaker 1: making sure that he can handle the pitching well.
- 2:29:02Speaker 3: And I think it sounds like Boba Schet's on his
- 2:29:05Speaker 3: way out. I don't think he wants to stick around.
- 2:29:07Speaker 3: There's not been a lot of talk about extending him.
- 2:29:10Speaker 3: So that opens that spot up. You might move Jim
- 2:29:13Speaker 3: Andes over to short because of the defensive plus there,
- 2:29:16Speaker 3: but that opens up a spot at second base for
- 2:29:20Speaker 3: Will Wagner or a kid like this coming up. So yeah,
- 2:29:23Speaker 3: I don't think twenty twenty six is is all too early. Yeah,
- 2:29:27Speaker 3: and the powers there, like you said, that's that's a
- 2:29:31Speaker 3: good deeper dive.
- 2:29:32Speaker 4: I think, yeah, absolutely, and I think anybody listening to
- 2:29:35Speaker 4: this pod has seen this one coming, because we all
- 2:29:38Speaker 4: know Mike's favorite thing is underaged players at higher levels
- 2:29:43Speaker 4: than the miners.
- 2:29:44Speaker 3: Nice.
- 2:29:44Speaker 2: So you just have to you sort by age at
- 2:29:47Speaker 2: different levels and you find that the youngest guy performing
- 2:29:51Speaker 2: with WRC plus of like one fifteen higher. It's on
- 2:29:54Speaker 2: every one of the coolies lists.
- 2:29:56Speaker 3: Bold star, bold star, bold star. Yeah.
- 2:30:00Speaker 1: I like it. All right, Well we made it. We've
- 2:30:05Speaker 1: previewed here the AL East real quick, I'm gonna go
- 2:30:08Speaker 1: around the horn. Who's your AL E East pick to
- 2:30:11Speaker 1: win the division?
- 2:30:12Speaker 3: Matt, Oh, don't make me say it. That's I'm not
- 2:30:18Speaker 3: gonna say it from the heart. I'm gonna say it
- 2:30:20Speaker 3: from the head. And I think it's gonna be the
- 2:30:22Speaker 3: Yankees that that walk that dog, probably by a few
- 2:30:27Speaker 3: more than a few games. But I think you do
- 2:30:30Speaker 3: get at least one wild card out of the East.
- 2:30:33Speaker 3: But I'm gonna say that the Yankees take that division.
- 2:30:37Speaker 2: I hate to agree, I hate to agree, but I
- 2:30:39Speaker 2: will agree. I really want to see the Orioles do it,
- 2:30:44Speaker 2: but they just didn't do enough this offseason to make
- 2:30:47Speaker 2: the take advantage of the youth that they have. If anything,
- 2:30:50Speaker 2: mid mid year last year, they started to fall apart.
- 2:30:52Speaker 2: Uh a kind of the managerial GM type of decision
- 2:30:57Speaker 2: making process. Uh So, I think I would rather talk
- 2:31:01Speaker 2: about Connor Norby in new segment than anybody else. But
- 2:31:04Speaker 2: I'll go with the Yankees and do it begrudgingly.
- 2:31:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you. Yeah, I think I'm in the
- 2:31:11Speaker 1: same boat. But I do think that the Red Sox
- 2:31:13Speaker 1: really kind of enter this race a lot more than
- 2:31:16Speaker 1: they have over the past couple of years. That the
- 2:31:18Speaker 1: Red Sox pushed the Yankees a little bit. I think
- 2:31:20Speaker 1: that the rotation comes through. I think you see some
- 2:31:23Speaker 1: breakouts from those Bats between Roman Anthony and Christian Campbell
- 2:31:27Speaker 1: and you know, maybe even others that I think the
- 2:31:30Speaker 1: Red Sox got a lot of have a lot of
- 2:31:31Speaker 1: great pieces as those him Bloom, you know, scouted players
- 2:31:36Speaker 1: start making their way through the system and coming to fruition.
- 2:31:40Speaker 1: All right, well, let's wrap it up here for this
- 2:31:44Speaker 1: nice little preview pod to kick it all off, Matt,
- 2:31:47Speaker 1: let everybody know where they can find you on socials
- 2:31:49Speaker 1: and read your work.
