- 1:28Speaker 3: That's so much better, right, I've never thought of that
- 1:32Speaker 3: probably because we don't.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Usually get to say that.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, no, man, it was a good day. How are you.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I'm good man, I'm out on the road. I'm in
- 1:43Speaker 2: currently in Saint Louis. Oh yeah, and today San Luis Zelli.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It was a pretty beautiful day. However, I spent all
- 1:55Speaker 2: day watching football in this hotel room. It was oneonderful.
- 2:00Speaker 2: We don't usually get Sundays.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Off, so I know that's nice.
- 2:04Speaker 2: That was really nice. But yeah, this tour, we're into
- 2:07Speaker 2: the deep tour and we're out with the Longest John's
- 2:12Speaker 2: and we've done three shows and they've been a bunch
- 2:14Speaker 2: of fun.
- 2:15Speaker 3: It looks like they're so great.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Those guys are so cool, man. I'm a big fan
- 2:20Speaker 2: of each and every one of the guys in the band.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It's a bummer because Robbie isn't able to be here.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I saw that.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for a good.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Reason, right, I mean.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, they're adding another family member, which is really nice.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But yeah, we're just having a blast so far, and
- 2:41Speaker 2: the crowds have been really fun. We could use more
- 2:45Speaker 2: people out at the shows. So if you're hearing this
- 2:47Speaker 2: and want to come on, please go to home for
- 2:50Speaker 2: Music dot com and come and check out the endo
- 2:53Speaker 2: the Deep tour, and also our album just dropped on
- 2:57Speaker 2: Friday and that was pretty fun. Yeah dude, Yeah, the
- 3:02Speaker 2: vinyl turned out really cool.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to purchase one of those. I think
- 3:05Speaker 3: I'll be in the dells if anyone wants to come,
- 3:07Speaker 3: say hi and check out that show.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, come and check it in.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, the art looks so cool. You gets are
- 3:14Speaker 3: killing it.
- 3:14Speaker 5: I love it.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It's fun.
- 3:16Speaker 6: I love it.
- 3:17Speaker 5: How Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been cool. It's been fun singing all these shanties.
- 3:21Speaker 2: It's a little different. We're still doing, uh, some of
- 3:24Speaker 2: our regular things that people are used to hearing us. Yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 2: but yeah, a lot of new stuff, man, and boy,
- 3:31Speaker 2: my brain was working so hard.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Well yeah, well I believe it because.
- 3:36Speaker 3: We're also learned, like two tours at the same time,
- 3:39Speaker 3: because after this you're doing, you know, yes, exactly whole
- 3:43Speaker 3: other thing, right.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But not only that, we're singing on like six of
- 3:47Speaker 2: their songs and like, yeah, three or four new songs.
- 3:52Speaker 2: So it's just like I was visibly thinking you could tell.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Words too, and these shanties and things, but I'm terrible
- 4:01Speaker 3: with those.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, I'm terrible with those, dude, I hear you,
- 4:05Speaker 2: I hear you. We're getting through it. It's fun though.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That's cool, buddy. Good vibes though, huh, great vibes.
- 4:12Speaker 3: They're so fun.
- 4:12Speaker 5: I love those guys.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I love them.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Nice well, very cool, buddy. Have you been watching any
- 4:17Speaker 3: films lately? I have kind of. This was one that
- 4:22Speaker 3: I actually watched on my China.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Trip, because that's dude, I logged in so many movies
- 4:27Speaker 2: on that trip.
- 4:28Speaker 3: That's a backlog. That's what we call it.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yes, but dude, I went and watched it. Was a
- 4:34Speaker 2: big movie last year called me cap Ye mee cap
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's one word. This movie was awesome. I watched it
- 4:45Speaker 2: on Netflix. It's about a real hip hop band that's
- 4:50Speaker 2: based in Ireland and the main plot is that the
- 4:53Speaker 2: schools out there are trying to stop teaching the Irish
- 4:57Speaker 2: language oh because they're just like people aren't really using it,
- 5:01Speaker 2: and so they released some songs that feature Irish and
- 5:06Speaker 2: they get pretty popular. It's surprisingly funny, the music is
- 5:12Speaker 2: really good. There's a pretty cool message in there as well.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I was surprised by how much I liked it. I
- 5:17Speaker 2: would definitely recommend checking it out. It was super like
- 5:21Speaker 2: stylized and I just felt hip watching it.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Very cool. Nice, Yeah, it was cool. I've never even
- 5:29Speaker 3: heard of this.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I don't highly highly recommend it. Love that and I
- 5:34Speaker 2: didn't know that that what I was telling Luke, our manager,
- 5:38Speaker 2: about it, and he was like, oh, is that the
- 5:40Speaker 2: Irish rap group?
- 5:41Speaker 3: And I was like, yeah, yeah, Luke get weirdo, what
- 5:45Speaker 3: are you talking about?
- 5:46Speaker 2: He knows everything about music, but yeah, every.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Once in a while I'm just like, no, I didn't
- 5:52Speaker 3: know that one piece of minutia.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I'm sorry, amazing, but he he was familiar, and I
- 5:58Speaker 2: was like, yeah, they made a movie about kind of
- 6:00Speaker 2: how they got started, and it was knowing that it
- 6:03Speaker 2: was a real thing. Yeah, infinitely cooler, So yeah, I
- 6:07Speaker 2: would check it out.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Wow, very cool. I'll have to have it.
- 6:11Speaker 2: What have you been watching?
- 6:13Speaker 3: I watched a film that I don't think I've talked about.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I can never remember, but stop me if I have,
- 6:21Speaker 3: and I'll pick a different one. But I saw the
- 6:23Speaker 3: crazy film weapons. You did not Okay? I didn't think
- 6:28Speaker 3: we talked about.
- 6:29Speaker 2: This on here, but you excuse me?
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yes, what a question?
- 6:33Speaker 7: No?
- 6:35Speaker 2: I just sneezed so hard right into the microphone.
- 6:38Speaker 3: It's all good. It's all good. Weapons, dude, this movie
- 6:43Speaker 3: is deeply uncomfortable. I did love it a lot, but
- 6:50Speaker 3: just in the worst way. I actually rented it and
- 6:56Speaker 3: watched it here at my house, and thank god because
- 7:00Speaker 3: I had to like talk to myself during it because
- 7:04Speaker 3: it was freaking me out, Like I was just like,
- 7:06Speaker 3: why are you are you doing this? I was like
- 7:09Speaker 3: the person in the horror movie that's like, don't go
- 7:11Speaker 3: in there.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Stop us.
- 7:13Speaker 3: What are you doing to me? So I was stressed out.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I was pacing at one point. I want I did
- 7:18Speaker 3: what you wanted to do when you were watching the
- 7:20Speaker 3: Adam Gems cut Gems. It is stressful. It's really well done.
- 7:26Speaker 3: It's a really cool idea. The structure of the movie
- 7:30Speaker 3: is really fun. I don't want to give away anything
- 7:32Speaker 3: because it's also it's a fun experience. But it is
- 7:36Speaker 3: absolutely a horror movie. So if that's not your thing,
- 7:40Speaker 3: I get it. I loved it though. It's really really good.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It's there for one of the best movies I've seen
- 7:47Speaker 3: this year. I mean, wow, I didn't enjoy the time done,
- 7:53Speaker 3: but it's really good.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I think I had told you before before my dad
- 7:58Speaker 2: and I saw Nobody Too. In the theater. That was
- 8:01Speaker 2: one of the previews, and my dad looked over at
- 8:06Speaker 2: me and he was like, there is no way you
- 8:09Speaker 2: could pay me to watch that movie. It was it
- 8:13Speaker 2: looked so scary. Whoever had the idea to make those
- 8:19Speaker 2: kids run with their arms out like that? Yeah, that
- 8:22Speaker 2: is the most terrifyingly creepy thing I've ever seen.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's just it's wild. It's it's crazy. But
- 8:32Speaker 3: if you can like that stuff even at all, I
- 8:34Speaker 3: think you're gonna enjoy this movie. I gave it a
- 8:38Speaker 3: nine on IMDb. I really liked it a lot.
- 8:41Speaker 2: It's Leila and Stitch material, right, but it's like, we're
- 8:44Speaker 2: right in there.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I know. I wish I could parse it out a
- 8:46Speaker 3: little more because it's not quite to that level. But
- 8:50Speaker 3: I kind of remember, never say the ratings because then
- 8:53Speaker 3: you look like an athlet. I did like this movie though.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Juliet Garner is so great in it.
- 8:59Speaker 2: From those she's the teacher.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, Josh Roan is in it. I say anyone else, because.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Don't say anyone else. Those are the two people I
- 9:09Speaker 2: saw on the trailer.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. It's wild, but it is scary and off
- 9:15Speaker 3: putting and unsettling and all these things. So do with
- 9:18Speaker 3: that what you will. But that's what I watched. Have
- 9:21Speaker 3: you been streaming anything I have?
- 9:24Speaker 2: I've been watching something much more fun involving kids.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Okay, I hope so, Okay, yes, Kels.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And I have been wanting to show our kids more
- 9:34Speaker 2: movies that we loved growing up. Oh I love that idea,
- 9:37Speaker 2: And so we went to Disney Plus and we watched
- 9:40Speaker 2: Honey I Shrunk the kids.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Oh my god, I mean this movie is a banger.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I loved it so much when I was a kid.
- 9:49Speaker 3: We would do that movie on here at some point
- 9:51Speaker 3: because I loved it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it was eighty nine, so we would just have
- 9:55Speaker 2: to like, do it.
- 9:56Speaker 3: We'll get her in there for sure.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Some of it doesn't look super real anymore. Yeah, it's,
- 10:06Speaker 2: you know, nineteen eighty nine, but it's still so much fun.
- 10:12Speaker 2: The kids really enjoyed it. There was a bit with
- 10:15Speaker 2: an ant and a scorpion that kind of bummed them out,
- 10:17Speaker 2: but overall, yeah, they were into it.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Okay, cool, that didn't scare them too much. Okay, good good.
- 10:22Speaker 2: No, it wasn't so much scary. It was more bummery,
- 10:25Speaker 2: you know, I got But yeah, when we were watching it,
- 10:30Speaker 2: Kelson and I did have the observation that so their
- 10:34Speaker 2: kids are like miniature in the yard and they just
- 10:38Speaker 2: go to sleep, and they're like, we better, we better
- 10:40Speaker 2: get some sleep. Look for them in the morning, and
- 10:44Speaker 2: then the next morning, No, the next morning, they look
- 10:48Speaker 2: for them for about two seconds and then they're like, oh,
- 10:52Speaker 2: I better have some breakfast.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I got to eat.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And that's where like the cheerio scene comes in, and
- 10:57Speaker 2: you're just like, what are these parents doing, dude? So
- 11:04Speaker 2: if we observation, I like that a lot if we
- 11:07Speaker 2: ever end up doing that one. But it was a
- 11:10Speaker 2: lot of fun, nice love it. What have you been streaming?
- 11:16Speaker 3: I rented okay, come on so many rentals, but this
- 11:19Speaker 3: wasn't streaming anywhere yet. I feel like it might be.
- 11:22Speaker 3: But I watched the classic from nineteen hundred and sixty nine,
- 11:28Speaker 3: The Summer of Love. I watched watch Cassidy and the
- 11:32Speaker 3: Sun Dance Kid in honor of Robert Redford. Yes, rip, yeah,
- 11:38Speaker 3: So I had never seen this. Upon a rewatch, I
- 11:42Speaker 3: feel like maybe my dad did watch this at some
- 11:44Speaker 3: point because parts of it looked familiar, or maybe it's
- 11:47Speaker 3: just such an old classic that I've seen little parts
- 11:50Speaker 3: of it.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Part of the man.
- 11:53Speaker 3: This movie was really fun. Those two Paul Newman and
- 11:57Speaker 3: Robert Redford. I mean, I totally got why they made
- 12:01Speaker 3: so many movies together because they are just both like
- 12:03Speaker 3: charisma bombs. In this movie, they're just really grand like that,
- 12:07Speaker 3: They're really great. They're really fun. It had way more
- 12:11Speaker 3: humor than I thought would be in it. You know,
- 12:13Speaker 3: it's a western, so I was kind of like, I
- 12:15Speaker 3: don't know what are we going to get out of this?
- 12:16Speaker 3: But I really liked it a lot. I had a
- 12:18Speaker 3: great time watching it. I recommend it, And yeah, I'm
- 12:22Speaker 3: gonna try and watch a few Robert Redford films.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, dude, I watched I watched that on a plane.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I then watched Three Days of the Condor.
- 12:32Speaker 3: That's the next time. That is that good? Should I
- 12:34Speaker 3: watch that next? Yeah?
- 12:35Speaker 2: It was really good. That was that was fun, totally great.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm sure there's some Robert Redford ones that
- 12:42Speaker 2: I've missed that I got to check out.
- 12:44Speaker 3: But yeah, at some point I have to watch The Sting,
- 12:46Speaker 3: although I have a personal bendat against that movie, so
- 12:49Speaker 3: that's gonna be hard.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But you know, Okay, the.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Music, I said is very subpar. Oh that's the one
- 12:55Speaker 3: that Marv One is oscar for. I think okay, and
- 13:01Speaker 3: you know my personal vendennas are mar and Joe Peshi.
- 13:04Speaker 3: As we learned, I get it, so no, but I
- 13:11Speaker 3: will be watching some of those.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You got to watch Sneakers because you haven't seen that
- 13:15Speaker 2: great and.
- 13:15Speaker 3: You love that one, right that one? Yeah, yeah, I
- 13:19Speaker 3: will have to do that. But yes, so you know,
- 13:22Speaker 3: I'm trying to use these. I feel like it's a
- 13:23Speaker 3: good excuse with the unfortunate news, but to kind of
- 13:27Speaker 3: celebrate their lives and watch some of these movies after
- 13:30Speaker 3: these cool sure die and yeah, so it's just been
- 13:34Speaker 3: kind of fun. But yeah, I really liked it. It
- 13:36Speaker 3: was fun, very cool. Nice. Well, what do you think
- 13:39Speaker 3: should we do if you plugs.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah, let's plug it up.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Okay, great, you guess can find us as always over

- 14:37Speaker 2: do a top five draft that pertains to the movie
- 14:40Speaker 2: we're talking about, and for this one, we decided to
- 14:43Speaker 2: do our top five favorite movies in space.
- 14:47Speaker 3: And there are so many, rob There's so so many,
- 14:51Speaker 3: so so many. I actually feel like I did. I
- 14:54Speaker 3: wrote a bunch of them down and then I didn't
- 14:57Speaker 3: get a chance to go back to it, and now
- 14:58Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, I probably missed it. But we'll see.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I got some bangers, so it'll be fun.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I believe it.
- 15:03Speaker 5: It'll be fun.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we will look forward to that, Greg, But we
- 15:07Speaker 3: are here today to talk about a great space movie.
- 15:11Speaker 3: What's a little film called Apollo thirteen from nineteen hundred
- 15:15Speaker 3: and ninety five, so it would be thirty.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I believe it's exactly right. That map is correct.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Yeah, tough for me. Super excited to talk about this film.
- 15:26Speaker 3: And we got one of our our old well he's
- 15:29Speaker 3: not our oldest pal. He's a long serving pal of ours,
- 15:33Speaker 3: that's what we've said in the past, and he loves
- 15:36Speaker 3: all things space. So, ladies and donal, let's give it
- 15:38Speaker 3: up for Pat Nelson.
- 15:41Speaker 2: What's up? Pat?
- 15:42Speaker 3: Hey?
- 15:42Speaker 2: Boys?
- 15:43Speaker 3: Oh my god, I wear.
- 15:47Speaker 6: A Delue shirt too.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Oh your shirt.
- 15:50Speaker 6: My friend gave me this. My friend gave of this
- 15:51Speaker 6: for birthday.
- 15:53Speaker 2: That's sure for the listeners. We all met in Duluth,
- 15:56Speaker 2: which did We went to school up there together.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yeah, we've just been lovers ever since decades ago. It's
- 16:04Speaker 3: been so long, dude, you were saying before we got
- 16:07Speaker 3: on here. Pat, you've been in the Greater Twin Cities
- 16:10Speaker 3: area for twenty years now.
- 16:12Speaker 6: June was June like fifth was twenty years which.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Wow, which makes sense because I don't underas a couple
- 16:19Speaker 3: of years behind you. That's wild.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I don't understand.
- 16:22Speaker 3: And we've met more than that before. So we've known
- 16:26Speaker 3: each other a minute, were saying, but it's been.
- 16:28Speaker 2: A while, and very glad that it has been. We're
- 16:30Speaker 2: back here, man, It's good to see you.
- 16:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I told you so. For people listening to this,
- 16:35Speaker 6: they you know, they'll send out a list to people
- 16:37Speaker 6: that have done it before that, and this movie was
- 16:40Speaker 6: on the list. And I said, I think I said
- 16:42Speaker 6: something like, I will threaten to end our friendship, right,
- 16:45Speaker 6: I am not considered to do this episode.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And you were, of course considered after everyone else canceled.
- 16:51Speaker 3: We did Calle so it worked.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Out the story in my life.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I'm just kidding. We were so excited that you were
- 16:57Speaker 3: interested in doing it. So great. You love this movie
- 17:02Speaker 3: and just all things Space Program basically, right, Does that
- 17:05Speaker 3: seem fair to say?
- 17:06Speaker 6: Yeah? And it was this movie that this was the movie.
- 17:09Speaker 6: It came out in what ninety five, in seventh or
- 17:12Speaker 6: eighth grade. I was in seventh or eighth grade, I
- 17:15Speaker 6: think seventh grade, and all my I still have a
- 17:19Speaker 6: couple of the day planners from school and there's just
- 17:21Speaker 6: Saturn fives drawn.
- 17:23Speaker 2: In all of that.
- 17:23Speaker 6: Wow, I just right away and I'm still still for
- 17:28Speaker 6: my birthday. Last year, my wife took me to the
- 17:32Speaker 6: Apollo Mission Control in Houston. Got a VIP tour of
- 17:35Speaker 6: mission control where they where all the Ed Harris stuff.
- 17:39Speaker 6: Is like I was in that room and I freaking
- 17:43Speaker 6: out where you cried I would, And they've redone it.
- 17:48Speaker 6: They like redid it a few years ago for the
- 17:50Speaker 6: moon landing anniversary, so it's the way they present it.
- 17:53Speaker 6: It's all restored to nineteen sixties pristine.
- 17:56Speaker 2: And it's like everything fake.
- 17:58Speaker 6: The rooms, you know, all the screens are off, and
- 18:00Speaker 6: then those screens all just slowly turned on and I was.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Like, oh, the.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Best part it was me. It was a small group.
- 18:10Speaker 6: It was me and Alyssa and then you know a
- 18:13Speaker 6: couple other couples, and it was me and this woman
- 18:16Speaker 6: who is probably about our age, and she had like, Houston,
- 18:20Speaker 6: I am. The problem is what it said on her
- 18:21Speaker 6: shirt sick. Alyssa has that shirt too, And we were
- 18:27Speaker 6: standing kind of next to each other when the screens
- 18:29Speaker 6: came on and I wiped tears out of my eyes
- 18:32Speaker 6: and looked at her.
- 18:33Speaker 3: She was like, I suppose right, You're getting people who
- 18:37Speaker 3: love this that are paying for the VX, you know, like.
- 18:40Speaker 6: Experience, and that's like mecca for this place, and that
- 18:44Speaker 6: looks exactly like it doesn't the movie, I'll talk about that.
- 18:47Speaker 2: That's so cool, sick.
- 18:49Speaker 6: So yeah, this movie, this movie generated I'm a musician
- 18:52Speaker 6: for my life full time, and this movie generated my
- 18:56Speaker 6: non biggest non music hobby that I've had.
- 18:58Speaker 3: All these You love that, I love that. Well, super fun.
- 19:03Speaker 3: We're so excited to have you so excited. Boom, I'm
- 19:06Speaker 3: so excited. I think we should get right into it.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Probab you want to hit us with a rough SYNOPSI sure.
- 19:12Speaker 2: This Hollywood drama is based on the events of the
- 19:15Speaker 2: Apollo thirteen lunar mission. Astronauts Jim Level, Fred Hayes, and
- 19:18Speaker 2: Jack Swigert find everything going according to plan after leaving
- 19:22Speaker 2: Earth's orbit. However, when an oxygen tank explodes, this scheduled
- 19:28Speaker 2: moon landing is called off. Subsequent tensions within the crew
- 19:32Speaker 2: and numerous technical problems threatened both the astronauts' survival and
- 19:37Speaker 2: their safe return to Earth.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Ooh, nice, good read good read great inflection, Thank you,
- 19:45Speaker 3: great inflection, thank you wonderful. Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes
- 19:48Speaker 3: and hear what they have to say. Critics have us
- 19:50Speaker 3: coming in at a rock solid ninety four percent gang Boom.
- 19:54Speaker 2: That is hated.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Audience members a little bit. All that at eighty seven percent.
- 20:03Speaker 2: People are they're the thirteen percent.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Or just I just wonder, like, how many of those
- 20:09Speaker 3: thirteen percent are like we never made it even close
- 20:12Speaker 3: to the moon.
- 20:13Speaker 6: If they did a breakdown, I bet the moon hoax
- 20:16Speaker 6: people would be about thirteen percent of the podcast.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that seems that seems right to me. Silly, silly people.
- 20:23Speaker 3: But let's go in and hear what we think. It's
- 20:26Speaker 3: time for our hot take.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Hot take.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Oh, that's a hot take.
- 20:31Speaker 2: That's a hot take.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Oh, spicy, the cold heat of vacuum in space.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Good?
- 20:39Speaker 3: What do you want for me? I don't know. They
- 20:40Speaker 3: got cold and that's so cold.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Well then when they're coming in, Oh, that.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Would have been so much better. That's where I thought
- 20:48Speaker 3: you were. No, Nope, I.
- 20:50Speaker 6: Didn't go there.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Your singers, huh the worst way anyhow. I barely do
- 20:58Speaker 3: that anymore. Let's my hot take. This is not a movie.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I've seen a bunch of times. I have seen it
- 21:05Speaker 3: a few but I think I saw it sort of
- 21:07Speaker 3: later in life for the first time. I was maybe
- 21:10Speaker 3: just a little bit young in ninety five. I don't
- 21:13Speaker 3: know why I didn't see it. Oh you know, actually
- 21:15Speaker 3: this was when we didn't have a movie theater in town.
- 21:17Speaker 3: That probably played pretty large to it. Anyhow, I've seen
- 21:21Speaker 3: it a few times now. I really like this movie
- 21:24Speaker 3: a lot. I think it's it's obviously from one of
- 21:27Speaker 3: in my opinion, like the most wonderful times in human
- 21:32Speaker 3: history as far as like pushing the boundaries of what
- 21:37Speaker 3: human beings can do. The US in you know, basically
- 21:41Speaker 3: just deciding, you know, and we can get into like
- 21:43Speaker 3: their motivation and all that that's maybe not as like
- 21:46Speaker 3: beautiful and wonderful, but you know, as they were battling
- 21:49Speaker 3: the Russians to get to the moon, but going from
- 21:53Speaker 3: basically learning to fly on Earth to going to the
- 21:56Speaker 3: moon and then being able to not only go to
- 21:59Speaker 3: the moon but also troubleshoot on the way back, you know,
- 22:02Speaker 3: and get people home within like fifty or sixty years
- 22:07Speaker 3: is insane to me. And I really think it's beautiful.
- 22:10Speaker 3: This movie is beautiful. As far as the shots that
- 22:14Speaker 3: they get. I can't believe they got some of this
- 22:16Speaker 3: stuff back in ninety five or like made it look
- 22:19Speaker 3: as cool as it does. That shot that we get
- 22:22Speaker 3: as the like booster is, you know, detaching from the
- 22:27Speaker 3: shuttle and we see it like through the halo of
- 22:29Speaker 3: that we see Earth Like that's so cool. I love
- 22:33Speaker 3: that shot so much. There's a great score to this movie.
- 22:37Speaker 6: Likes corner score.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Yeah, man, it really too. It made me cry a
- 22:43Speaker 3: few times, which I'm sure we'll get into at some
- 22:46Speaker 3: point or another. But yeah, just great performances. I think.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Just a terrifying thing to think about, you know, like
- 22:54Speaker 3: people being marooned so far away and so close to
- 22:59Speaker 3: imminent danger all times, and the fact that people came
- 23:02Speaker 3: together and got them back home. They used their wits
- 23:05Speaker 3: and wiles. I just love it. Yeah, big fan of
- 23:08Speaker 3: this movie. My hot take, I do believe we landed
- 23:13Speaker 3: on the Moon, despite not doing it in this particular mission.
- 23:17Speaker 3: I think we did it. And there's a time I
- 23:20Speaker 3: would have said that's not a hot take, but I
- 23:21Speaker 3: feel it's increasingly more popular to say we didn't again,
- 23:26Speaker 3: so that's a hot take.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I don't know. Well, after seeing that movie fly Me
- 23:30Speaker 2: to the Moon, did you see that, Pat, I.
- 23:32Speaker 6: Did not see that.
- 23:33Speaker 3: That's a fun movie.
- 23:35Speaker 2: It's basically them like in case they didn't get footage
- 23:40Speaker 2: of them on the moon. They did actually have like
- 23:42Speaker 2: a backup plan. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I kind of
- 23:45Speaker 2: see where people were.
- 23:47Speaker 6: But yeah, well it's like anything else, anything else, And
- 23:52Speaker 6: especially in the US, anytime any big cataclysmic cultural thing happens,
- 23:56Speaker 6: there's always yeah, ten years down the road of conspiracy.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, but I'm with you guys for sure. Hot
- 24:05Speaker 2: take buddy, but we're here. It's a take.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Such a great movie.
- 24:11Speaker 2: It was directed by Ron Howard, who's made some pretty
- 24:14Speaker 2: incredible movies over the years, and shockingly, this is only
- 24:18Speaker 2: the second film that he's a directed that we've done
- 24:21Speaker 2: an episode on. Really. Yes, the other one was Solo
- 24:28Speaker 2: the Star Wars Story. Isn't that funny?
- 24:31Speaker 3: Well, his finest film and all of his amazing films.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Shocked, that's the one that's the word. But this film.
- 24:40Speaker 2: It was up for nine Academy Awards, winning two for
- 24:43Speaker 2: Best Sound and Best Editing. It was based on the
- 24:47Speaker 2: book by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Krueger called Lost Moon,
- 24:50Speaker 2: Pat Did you ever read that one?
- 24:52Speaker 3: I did?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I knew you did.
- 24:53Speaker 3: That's a great book.
- 24:54Speaker 6: I don't have it. I have it somewhere, but it's
- 24:56Speaker 6: not on this I looked for it, but yeah, I
- 24:57Speaker 6: read it after I saw it nice well.
- 25:00Speaker 2: The screenwriters were William Broyles Junior and Al Reinert. They
- 25:04Speaker 2: did the screenplay and I thought they did a great job.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I was shocked at how well the movie held up
- 25:11Speaker 2: thirty years later. With the visuals. I thought they were
- 25:15Speaker 2: still really really intense. None of the special effects really
- 25:20Speaker 2: took me out of it, which is, you know, thirty
- 25:23Speaker 2: year old movie you would expect to be like, oh that.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I can't believe they did that so intense. Still, after
- 25:31Speaker 2: seeing it so many times, I had seen it a
- 25:35Speaker 2: bunch when I was younger, I was still very stressed
- 25:37Speaker 2: out during this rewatch. I also agree that the score
- 25:41Speaker 2: was incredible by James Horner. The cinematography was awesome, Like
- 25:46Speaker 2: you said that, acting was incredible.
- 25:49Speaker 3: So so good.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Front to back. It's not really a week. There's no week.
- 25:54Speaker 6: There's not really any week acting either.
- 25:56Speaker 3: There's a ton of people in it. Like the Tutu
- 25:59Speaker 3: is going to be length.
- 26:00Speaker 2: It'll be a lengthy to Chess. But yeah, my hot take.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I was convinced that James Horner borrowed some ideas from
- 26:12Speaker 2: this movie, okay, and I thought it was in the
- 26:16Speaker 2: Fugitive however, of course it was actually he took it
- 26:22Speaker 2: from his own score and it was in the Pelican
- 26:25Speaker 2: Brief whenever it's like really intense and it just kind
- 26:28Speaker 2: of sounds like random piano, like oh yeah, sure that
- 26:33Speaker 2: that always went to the fugitive for me. But it's
- 26:36Speaker 2: it's the Pelican Brief and he just stole it and
- 26:39Speaker 2: put it in this movie, which I that was kind
- 26:41Speaker 2: of fair.
- 26:42Speaker 3: That's hilarious for you, it's amazing mm hmmm, lazy, but
- 26:47Speaker 3: good for you. Hot take.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Pat, what you got buddy?
- 26:53Speaker 6: Oh boy, I don't know why. I think I just
- 26:57Speaker 6: went randomly with some friends or something the first time
- 26:59Speaker 6: I saw and I knew nothing about any of the
- 27:03Speaker 6: stuff at that time, and I was in seventh grade
- 27:05Speaker 6: and not a very smart person, but it absolutely left
- 27:08Speaker 6: us some sort of mark on me. Yeah, I think
- 27:13Speaker 6: the attention to detail seeing it. You know, I've seen
- 27:16Speaker 6: it one hundred thousand times and since then, I've done
- 27:20Speaker 6: a lot of I'm particularly interested in the engineering side,
- 27:23Speaker 6: so like the mission control guys, or that's what I
- 27:25Speaker 6: would have done if I would have been alive at
- 27:27Speaker 6: that time.
- 27:27Speaker 2: I would have loved to do that.
- 27:29Speaker 6: And I mean every literally every knob and switch in
- 27:33Speaker 6: the command module, in the lunar module, in mission control,
- 27:37Speaker 6: every switch, every panel is correctly labeled. They've faithfully reproduced
- 27:42Speaker 6: all of it, and I think that lends to its authenticity.
- 27:46Speaker 6: And you were talking about the effects. The effects hold
- 27:50Speaker 6: up because a lot of them, most of them are practical,
- 27:53Speaker 6: a lot of them you don't realize are practical, and
- 27:55Speaker 6: they actually they flew in the vomit comet well actual
- 28:01Speaker 6: waitless shots which you've never been done before. But the
- 28:04Speaker 6: nerd stuff aside. It's like you're saying, people are fascinated
- 28:08Speaker 6: with being marooned. So it's a survival story. It's you're marooned.
- 28:14Speaker 6: It's got that, it's got humor. There's a lot of
- 28:17Speaker 6: humor in it, and yeah, a lot of very subtle,
- 28:20Speaker 6: like laugh out loud sillyness in it. In spots, there's
- 28:26Speaker 6: a love story in it. You know, they cover there
- 28:29Speaker 6: the way they're able to cover all of it, and
- 28:32Speaker 6: then it's all packaged up in like an Oscar quality movie.
- 28:36Speaker 6: It's just all in there. It was one of those
- 28:38Speaker 6: that just everybody saw on and was like, yeah, yeah,
- 28:42Speaker 6: that's amazing, right, yeah, hot take, Yes, it's I will
- 28:49Speaker 6: say it is hard to watch as now a NASA enthusiast.
- 28:54Speaker 6: My hot take is that while the storytelling is great,
- 28:59Speaker 6: some of the historical inaccuracies can be irritating. My face
- 29:09Speaker 6: is turning red because I'm the only one that I'm
- 29:11Speaker 6: of the even smaller percentile that's like, well that's not
- 29:15Speaker 6: you say that then, Yeah, but yeah, it's really it's
- 29:19Speaker 6: a even if you're not a big space nerd like
- 29:21Speaker 6: I am, it's just a It's just one of those
- 29:24Speaker 6: movies you don't ever turn off. If you if you
- 29:26Speaker 6: come past turned.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Off, yeah, it's a classic. If you're on tour and
- 29:30Speaker 3: you come in like part way through that movie, you
- 29:33Speaker 3: have to watch the rest of it for sure. Yeah,
- 29:37Speaker 3: I guess I'm doing this for at least a little bit.
- 29:39Speaker 2: It's so funny. My dad is such a huge World
- 29:41Speaker 2: War two nut, so that if he ever watches one
- 29:44Speaker 2: of those kind of movies, if there's a historical inaccuracy,
- 29:48Speaker 2: he can't get by it.
- 29:49Speaker 3: He can't watch Its funny. What's what's the other one?
- 29:53Speaker 3: I've heard him talk, Oh JFK. He was just like,
- 29:55Speaker 3: oh my god, yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 6: It's funny because when I first thought I didn't know
- 30:01Speaker 6: any of that stuff. And then as I over the
- 30:03Speaker 6: years read some of these fine periodicals like the Apollo
- 30:07Speaker 6: thirteen Technical Manual, Norman Mailer's Moonfire, and Gene Kranz is
- 30:12Speaker 6: ed Harris's character failure.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Is not an option.
- 30:14Speaker 6: Wow, as I read, you know, over the years more
- 30:18Speaker 6: of this stuff, and then it's like, well, wait, the biggest,
- 30:19Speaker 6: the biggest one, the most glaring one for me, is
- 30:22Speaker 6: that the Kevin Bacon character Jack Schwicker. He's portrayed as
- 30:27Speaker 6: a rookie who is you know, they're not quite sure,
- 30:29Speaker 6: and it always it still kind of rubs me wrong
- 30:33Speaker 6: because the reality was, and people don't know this, is
- 30:35Speaker 6: that Jack Spiker ended up running for Congress and he
- 30:38Speaker 6: died right after he got elected. Never had any family,
- 30:42Speaker 6: he was he had been an astronaut for a long time.
- 30:44Speaker 6: He wasn't he was a rookie as far as going
- 30:46Speaker 6: to space. But he helped develop the command module and
- 30:49Speaker 6: he was the astronaut that actually helped write the checklist
- 30:52Speaker 6: for the Command module malfunction. So he is actually the
- 30:57Speaker 6: best possible guy that could have been there for that.
- 31:00Speaker 6: And the thing that rus me is that he didn't
- 31:02Speaker 6: have family really behind and he wasn't around, so they
- 31:04Speaker 6: were like, wow, we can kind of kick him under
- 31:06Speaker 6: the bus, and a little bit was the reality was
- 31:10Speaker 6: that this guy came in, you know, two days before,
- 31:12Speaker 6: which is true when Charlie Duke, when Charlie Duke got
- 31:15Speaker 6: the measles gave everybody, By the way, this is Charlie
- 31:17Speaker 6: Duke on the moon, signed photo Charlie Duke.
- 31:21Speaker 2: D But the fact that he was able.
- 31:24Speaker 6: To competently jump in two days before, I mean, that's wild.
- 31:29Speaker 2: So he was replacing I thought he was replacing Ken Maddingly.
- 31:32Speaker 6: Was that Yeah, So Charlie Duke got the measles, gave
- 31:35Speaker 6: it to Ken Maddingly, kicked Ken Maddingle off and put
- 31:41Speaker 6: in Jack Swygert.
- 31:42Speaker 2: W Flowers never bloomed in Houston.
- 31:44Speaker 6: Flowers never bloomed in Houston. But that's the only one
- 31:50Speaker 6: that's still like, oh man, I just somewhere that Jack Swikert's.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Like, come on, I wrote that.
- 31:57Speaker 6: The rest of this stuff, the rest of the stuff
- 31:59Speaker 6: is so it's so minor that doesn't bother me, which
- 32:02Speaker 6: is also pretty incredible.
- 32:04Speaker 2: You can also kind of understand why they put that
- 32:08Speaker 2: in there, and it makes it much more dramatic.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Narratively, that makes a lot of sense, right, Yeah.
- 32:13Speaker 6: And I totally get that too. And the other part
- 32:16Speaker 6: of that is that there's another astronaut who is His
- 32:19Speaker 6: name is Dave Scott.
- 32:20Speaker 2: He was on Apollo fifteen.
- 32:23Speaker 6: He was an advisor on this movie, so he was
- 32:25Speaker 6: on set like, Nope, they would.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Have held it like this. They like this. That's cool.
- 32:29Speaker 6: And his whole thing is he acknowledges there are some
- 32:32Speaker 6: things that they they fudged with, he said, but in
- 32:35Speaker 6: the long term, he said, you could show this to
- 32:37Speaker 6: somebody in a hundred years who asked what was what
- 32:41Speaker 6: was it like to be in Houston in nineteen seventy
- 32:45Speaker 6: in the middle of this era, and he said, and
- 32:47Speaker 6: everybody they've talked to about it says they watched this
- 32:50Speaker 6: movie and they said, that is exactly like the culture,
- 32:54Speaker 6: the jokes, the whole like they captured. He said, it's
- 32:57Speaker 6: like watching a time machine of that era. And so
- 33:00Speaker 6: for him, it was worth it for some of the
- 33:03Speaker 6: smaller details to really capture, like a whole movement like that.
- 33:08Speaker 6: That's really cool.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Yeah, wild, that's cool man. Well, hot takes all around, guys,
- 33:14Speaker 3: takes how much how much the tape you got This
- 33:20Speaker 3: isn't even close to as long as we went on
- 33:22Speaker 3: a hot take. Oh yeah, we've entered into like the
- 33:24Speaker 3: first hour. I think sometimes we get Benny on here.
- 33:27Speaker 3: We've gone on six tangents already.
- 33:29Speaker 2: It's crazy, the tangent king.
- 33:33Speaker 3: He really is. But that was wonderful. Let's go in
- 33:36Speaker 3: and name our favorite acting performance. Shall we name the dude?
- 33:39Speaker 2: The dude?
- 33:40Speaker 8: I'm the dude, So that's what you call me, you
- 33:43Speaker 8: know that? Or his dude or duder or you know,
- 33:49Speaker 8: el dudo reno. If you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Pat, you want to go first, who's your dude for
- 33:53Speaker 3: this movie?
- 33:54Speaker 2: The dude?
- 33:55Speaker 6: And it said on the outline that it doesn't need
- 33:57Speaker 6: to be a lead, And really really think that the
- 34:00Speaker 6: person with the most emotionally dynamic and impressive performance is
- 34:04Speaker 6: Kathleen Quinlan who played She Has. She's the one. She's
- 34:11Speaker 6: the one. You know Tom Hanks character Jim levels up,
- 34:14Speaker 6: there has to be stoic. She's the one that's actually
- 34:18Speaker 6: having the emotions while no one else can, and she
- 34:20Speaker 6: goes through all of them. And I just think it's
- 34:24Speaker 6: incredible the way that Yeah, so that's for me.
- 34:27Speaker 2: It's and she was nominated for Best Supporting Actresses. Well
- 34:31Speaker 2: she was.
- 34:33Speaker 3: She was one of the noms.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Nice it was her and Ed Harris was nominated for
- 34:38Speaker 2: Best Supporting I took the low hanging for it. I'm
- 34:44Speaker 2: going to take Tom Hanks. Yeah, he was my number two. Yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 2: I just I can't imagine anyone else beside Tom Hanks
- 34:56Speaker 2: doing this role. He is like such a leader, such
- 35:00Speaker 2: a good dude. He kept a cool head, was the
- 35:03Speaker 2: voice of reason when the other guys were kind of
- 35:06Speaker 2: losing it, Like, he is the guy that you want
- 35:08Speaker 2: in that spot.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I just thought it was the perfect casting choice.
- 35:14Speaker 6: What's great about it, too, is that Tom Hanks is
- 35:16Speaker 6: as much of a space nerd as I am, and
- 35:19Speaker 6: has been.
- 35:20Speaker 2: His whole life.
- 35:20Speaker 6: So when he found out that was happening, he's like,
- 35:23Speaker 6: I have to have this movie. Jim Lovell, when they
- 35:27Speaker 6: he got the book deal and before he even wrote
- 35:29Speaker 6: the book, someone heard he got the book deal and
- 35:31Speaker 6: he got the movie deal before you even finished.
- 35:33Speaker 2: The book, he said. He said, they said, write your
- 35:35Speaker 2: book and then we're going to make a movie out
- 35:36Speaker 2: of it. He said.
- 35:37Speaker 6: The whole time, he's he thought, I kind of thought
- 35:39Speaker 6: Kevin Costner looked like me when I was young, and
- 35:41Speaker 6: he kind of did so. He was like I always
- 35:44Speaker 6: had in my mind, Kevin Costner and they said Tom
- 35:46Speaker 6: Hanks and he said.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Well, I'm glad it ended up being time.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Okay, we'll take that. We'll take Tom Hanks. Yeah, probably
- 35:52Speaker 3: could have not as good as Tom.
- 35:55Speaker 6: I think Tom Hanks is his his true childlike enthusiasm
- 36:01Speaker 6: for all of that.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: I mean for him it.
- 36:02Speaker 6: Was like the going to the best space camp you
- 36:04Speaker 6: could imagine.
- 36:05Speaker 3: D That'd be so fun if you were into that
- 36:08Speaker 3: to like get to Yeah, that'd be amazing. Yeah, so cool.
- 36:13Speaker 3: I also took the low hanging fruit because he's a
- 36:16Speaker 3: close personal friend of my friend Rob Lonquiz from Home Free.
- 36:19Speaker 3: I chose Tom Hanks.
- 36:22Speaker 2: I go to meet him last year.
- 36:23Speaker 3: It was crazy.
- 36:24Speaker 2: It was the weirdest thing ever.
- 36:27Speaker 3: And he said I'm Tom and Rob was like, yeah,
- 36:30Speaker 3: I know, I understand.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Did you?
- 36:33Speaker 6: I mean, how did you even? How are you?
- 36:37Speaker 3: If?
- 36:37Speaker 2: He walked to us and I literally out loud went
- 36:42Speaker 2: oh my god. There were other people by us, so
- 36:46Speaker 2: it was just like, oh, I am not going to
- 36:48Speaker 2: play cool so much, and then I just play quiet.
- 36:52Speaker 6: It's funny, how you I'm going to Alyssa bought me
- 36:56Speaker 6: to take us to see.
- 36:56Speaker 2: McCartney for my birthday. Sick amazing.
- 36:59Speaker 6: And I've over my years performing, I've gotten to meet
- 37:02Speaker 6: some cool people and Rob, you guys both probably in
- 37:06Speaker 6: your time, and I'm usually pretty like it doesn't rattle me.
- 37:10Speaker 6: But if I were to meet Paul McCartney, I would,
- 37:12Speaker 6: oh my god fall yeah I don't.
- 37:15Speaker 3: And people surprised his voice.
- 37:20Speaker 6: Dude, imagine I've heard you my whole life.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Seriously, I don't got me.
- 37:26Speaker 6: I love that you did involuntarily. Oh my gosh.
- 37:31Speaker 3: I was like, I imagine Chance was next to you.
- 37:37Speaker 3: He was just like man, but yeah, I hear you, though, Rob,
- 37:45Speaker 3: I would get so quiet after that, like that's my
- 37:49Speaker 3: go to is like, well, I'm going to be well,
- 37:51Speaker 3: I'm going to try to be so cool that I'm
- 37:53Speaker 3: almost aloof that's my gor.
- 37:56Speaker 2: That's what I do. But he was just so great
- 38:00Speaker 2: and he knows he gives that off like you can
- 38:02Speaker 2: just yeah, takes control, you know, and so you don't
- 38:07Speaker 2: feel like an idiot.
- 38:08Speaker 6: That's what a gracious, what a gracious and selfless thing
- 38:11Speaker 6: to do, because you know that everywhere he goes all
- 38:14Speaker 6: the time, his whole life, he's doing that. He's got
- 38:16Speaker 6: to do that.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Do you remember, good on him for being for doing that.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Remember early COVID. When he got COVID. Let's just started sighing.
- 38:23Speaker 3: I was terrified. Not Tom.
- 38:27Speaker 2: No, that was the first that she called me. We were,
- 38:30Speaker 2: we were, I was.
- 38:31Speaker 6: I was on a recording session as they were shutting
- 38:33Speaker 6: things down, and we're like, well boy, and they then
- 38:36Speaker 6: our honeymoon got canceled, which is our six year anniversary tonight.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Wow.
- 38:41Speaker 6: And she called me. She's like, it looks like our
- 38:43Speaker 6: honeymoon's cat Like, oh my god, this's crazy. And then
- 38:45Speaker 6: we saw Tom Hanks and she called me Tom.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Eggs are away good?
- 38:50Speaker 3: She said, they can't take Tom megs. They can't can't.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Leave him.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Yeah, anyway, and I'm jealous.
- 38:59Speaker 2: That's very that's very exciting around.
- 39:01Speaker 3: So cool, so cool. But I chose him for all
- 39:04Speaker 3: the reasons you guys said. I just think he's he's
- 39:07Speaker 3: the perfect at least what I think of as sort
- 39:10Speaker 3: of that like lofty ideal of what an astronaut is
- 39:13Speaker 3: is sort of like cool under pressure. They're working the problem,
- 39:17Speaker 3: you know what I mean, Like they really go into
- 39:20Speaker 3: engineer mode, I feel like, you know, when stuff does
- 39:23Speaker 3: come up, and and they're all really smart obviously, but
- 39:26Speaker 3: they also all are really systematic in their thinking, which
- 39:30Speaker 3: I think is so important for those positions at least.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Again the tiny bit. I know, I'm not, I'm not
- 39:36Speaker 3: a ass in to it as you are, Pat for sure,
- 39:38Speaker 3: but very I just think and his what did you say?
- 39:44Speaker 3: It's a few of us, me and the lady with
- 39:46Speaker 3: the shirt. That's pretty much it. But yeah, I just
- 39:50Speaker 3: think the personality he brings to everything and getting to
- 39:54Speaker 3: see them go, you know, through all the phases from
- 39:57Speaker 3: like watching to you know, like reveling in it like
- 40:01Speaker 3: everyone else did at the time.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I think it's cool too. They're not, They're not.
- 40:05Speaker 6: They have because they had, you know, the astronauts. There
- 40:07Speaker 6: was the stoicism thing. So they're not really culturally at
- 40:12Speaker 6: that time allowed to express anything they're feeling, right, and
- 40:15Speaker 6: they and all three of them, all three was a
- 40:18Speaker 6: Bill Paxson, Kevin Bake and Tom Hanks all do a
- 40:20Speaker 6: good job of being obviously terrified while coming across is
- 40:25Speaker 6: totally chill about it.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Yeah, totally. And yeah, and that period of like masculinity,
- 40:30Speaker 3: you weren't really supposed to the show vulnerability, you know
- 40:32Speaker 3: what I mean. So yeah, I just think they portrayed
- 40:35Speaker 3: all that so well while also letting the the emotions
- 40:38Speaker 3: peek through right just enough to show us. But I
- 40:41Speaker 3: just I love him. I think he's he's the best.
- 40:45Speaker 6: Talking about that masculinity bit. When they first came up,
- 40:48Speaker 6: when they were trying to design those spacesuits they were
- 40:51Speaker 6: for the waste collection, they would put like a condom
- 40:54Speaker 6: that was attached to a bit, you know, And so
- 40:58Speaker 6: they the first time they you know, had to get
- 41:00Speaker 6: all the astronauts. They had to get the condom size,
- 41:02Speaker 6: and it was small, medium or large, and all the
- 41:04Speaker 6: astronauts said large.
- 41:05Speaker 3: I remember reading this somewhere.
- 41:07Speaker 2: They had to change it.
- 41:08Speaker 3: To large, huge, large, huge and humongous.
- 41:11Speaker 6: Otherwise they so they got so they got the paperwork
- 41:15Speaker 6: back and every astronaut wrote large on the.
- 41:20Speaker 2: That's a true story.
- 41:22Speaker 3: You have a kid size.
- 41:26Speaker 2: That was the culture that so much.
- 41:31Speaker 3: Oh that's silly. But as we said, the rest of
- 41:35Speaker 3: the cast is amazing. Should we talk about everybody else?
- 41:38Speaker 3: Shall we name the Tucci the Tucci?
- 41:43Speaker 6: This one I had ed Harris as genekrants.
- 41:47Speaker 3: A fine pick for sure, incredible.
- 41:52Speaker 2: And he nails that guy. That guy is.
- 41:54Speaker 6: I mean, like I said, I've got his that guy's
- 41:56Speaker 6: book too, and that guy was. That is how that
- 42:00Speaker 6: guy was, And to this day he's still like ninety whatever.
- 42:04Speaker 6: When Alyssa took me to Houston to go to Mission Control,
- 42:06Speaker 6: we got delayed because of weather. But we were going
- 42:08Speaker 6: to a book signing. I was going to meet him,
- 42:10Speaker 6: but we missed it because of the weather. I was
- 42:13Speaker 6: crushed because that guy ruled with an iron fist. But
- 42:18Speaker 6: they all loved him and he loved all of them.
- 42:21Speaker 6: And yeah, and Ed Harris really nails that hole the seriousness.
- 42:25Speaker 6: But then at the end, there's a famous interview of
- 42:28Speaker 6: Gene Kranz from years ago before the movie came out,
- 42:31Speaker 6: talking about it, and he's talking about when they finally
- 42:34Speaker 6: get back and they put up on the screen like
- 42:36Speaker 6: welcome home or whatever, he broke down and cried. And
- 42:39Speaker 6: in the interview he starts crying. This was like twenty
- 42:41Speaker 6: years after it happened. And Ron Howard showed that to
- 42:44Speaker 6: gene Kranz, or showed that to Ed Harris, and Ed
- 42:48Speaker 6: Harris said, you want me to kind of do some
- 42:49Speaker 6: of that and he said, yeah, So that scene at
- 42:51Speaker 6: the end. You know, he never cracks the whole time,
- 42:55Speaker 6: and then at the end he finally sits down and cries.
- 42:58Speaker 6: It's like, that's exactly how that went down.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's super cool.
- 43:01Speaker 6: So yeah, and you could tell he really you can
- 43:03Speaker 6: tell Ed Harris really put his time in on that
- 43:05Speaker 6: part too, like he really wanted to get it right.
- 43:10Speaker 3: That's a great pick.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Well, yeah, he was also nominated. That's a great pick.
- 43:14Speaker 2: I love that he titled his book Failure is Not
- 43:17Speaker 2: an Option. That's pretty great.
- 43:19Speaker 6: And it's what's funny about that is he he never
- 43:22Speaker 6: said that, and he said.
- 43:24Speaker 2: That like that was yeah, that was a he said.
- 43:26Speaker 6: But he said he was so impressed watching the movie
- 43:29Speaker 6: when he saw that scene where least his failure is
- 43:31Speaker 6: not an option.
- 43:32Speaker 2: He's like, I don't think I ever said.
- 43:34Speaker 6: That, but he was. He's like, that captured that's where
- 43:37Speaker 6: we were at so much to the point that he's
- 43:39Speaker 6: adopted it. And he says, I didn't say it, but
- 43:41Speaker 6: I'm going to name my book that because that's because
- 43:44Speaker 6: that's that's how dialed in they were on that movie.
- 43:46Speaker 6: That he saw that and was like, I didn't say that,
- 43:48Speaker 6: but I would have said that.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 3: I didn't say that, but I meant it or whatever.
- 43:52Speaker 2: That's cool, that's super cool. He would have been who
- 43:56Speaker 2: I would have picked as well as a runner up.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I would have probably picked Bill Paxton. Maybe is Fred
- 44:05Speaker 2: Hayes so great? He was pretty great in that. Man,
- 44:09Speaker 2: did they make him look ill?
- 44:12Speaker 3: They did? They really job mean.
- 44:14Speaker 2: By the end of that, You're just like, I hope
- 44:16Speaker 2: he can get some sleep because he looks horrible. You
- 44:19Speaker 2: look like, dude, he really did. But he was such
- 44:22Speaker 2: like a goofball up there, which I thought was kind
- 44:25Speaker 2: of fun. Added some some levity color, some local color. Yeah,
- 44:32Speaker 2: so I give him the runner up.
- 44:36Speaker 6: I love His pick was to Alsa is a big
- 44:39Speaker 6: Bill Paxston fish. When I was sitting here writing down,
- 44:42Speaker 6: She's like, you're not putting Bill Paxton on her.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Honorable honorable mention.
- 44:48Speaker 3: He's so good.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Uh.
- 44:49Speaker 3: So we've said I think my top three because Kathleen
- 44:53Speaker 3: Quinlan would have been number one. I think she's amazing,
- 44:56Speaker 3: Ed Harris incredible. Paxton. I loved and like you said, Rob,
- 45:00Speaker 3: I just loved the the different, the different, you know,
- 45:07Speaker 3: like he gave some shade and some color and depth
- 45:09Speaker 3: to those characters. And I think that was really fun.
- 45:12Speaker 3: And I think in extremely serious and stressful situations comedy
- 45:17Speaker 3: can be you know, or just being able to laugh
- 45:20Speaker 3: even if it's not funny is so important, or like
- 45:24Speaker 3: grief depression, you know all these things right, Like it
- 45:26Speaker 3: is such a that is such a superpower that humans have.
- 45:29Speaker 3: I think that often goes like overlooked. So I loved
- 45:32Speaker 3: it they showed that. I'm gonna say Mary Kate Shellhart
- 45:38Speaker 3: his daughter, she is such a good crier in this movie.
- 45:43Speaker 3: I really loved her in this a lot.
- 45:45Speaker 6: Wow is it Tom hanks daughter?
- 45:47Speaker 3: Yeah, Tom hanks daughter, the eldest daughter. I guess three kids, right,
- 45:53Speaker 3: I think in this movie.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got three kids.
- 45:56Speaker 3: It's like the two girls in One Boy. But anyway,
- 45:59Speaker 3: I just thought she was really really great and this
- 46:01Speaker 3: she doesn't get to do a ton, but like the
- 46:04Speaker 3: way she is terrified is I think perfect. Like I
- 46:08Speaker 3: can't imagine it could be any better other than maybe,
- 46:13Speaker 3: you know, the kids might have just been in shock
- 46:15Speaker 3: the whole time. But I just thought she was so
- 46:18Speaker 3: good and she was such a good crier. She really
- 46:20Speaker 3: nailed it. And then Kevin Bacon, I thought was amazing,
- 46:27Speaker 3: one of.
- 46:28Speaker 6: My favorite One of my favorite cuts is a Kevin
- 46:30Speaker 6: Bacon moment when he finds out that he's gonna go
- 46:34Speaker 6: and he's yeah, and he gets the phone call and
- 46:35Speaker 6: he goes.
- 46:36Speaker 2: You can immediately cuts to Gary Sonise who's.
- 46:39Speaker 3: Like, yeah, no, that ye. And speaking of Gary Snise,
- 46:44Speaker 3: I thought he was awesome in this movie. And I
- 46:47Speaker 3: see why he or why he I don't know if
- 46:50Speaker 3: he picked this part, but I see why he liked
- 46:52Speaker 3: this part because it's so great because he plays such
- 46:56Speaker 3: a huge part in the movie and the you know,
- 46:59Speaker 3: the plot.
- 46:59Speaker 6: And all, and he's another one who goes through all
- 47:01Speaker 6: the range of he's excited because he gets to go,
- 47:04Speaker 6: then he's then he's like drinks himself to sleep because
- 47:07Speaker 6: he's so depressed that he can't go. Then he's horrified
- 47:09Speaker 6: that his friends are in danger, and then he becomes
- 47:11Speaker 6: part of the prop part of the solution.
- 47:13Speaker 3: I just love that's all.
- 47:14Speaker 6: And that's all that's all true too. Ken Manning really
- 47:17Speaker 6: did go back and live in that simulator and help
- 47:20Speaker 6: figure out the re entry plans.
- 47:21Speaker 2: So that's cool.
- 47:22Speaker 6: That's how that went down.
- 47:23Speaker 3: I love it, and it just it shows I felt
- 47:26Speaker 3: like that, and then just just the general like how
- 47:29Speaker 3: many people it took to be back home to help
- 47:32Speaker 3: go through this is like, that is the collective effort
- 47:35Speaker 3: of space travel that I think is so cool and
- 47:39Speaker 3: amazing for humanity. You know, it's just like, see what
- 47:43Speaker 3: we can do when we work, you know, together with
- 47:45Speaker 3: one purpose in mind.
- 47:46Speaker 6: You know, even the Russians at that time, who were
- 47:49Speaker 6: our arch we had beat them by that point, but
- 47:51Speaker 6: there were still our arch enemies. But the Russians came
- 47:53Speaker 6: out and said, if you need because they didn't know
- 47:56Speaker 6: where they were going to get him in anything, right,
- 48:00Speaker 6: it was like, we will send a ship. If it's
- 48:02Speaker 6: close to us, we will go get them, like yeah,
- 48:04Speaker 6: the whole world. And that's what made that unique too.
- 48:06Speaker 6: The other thing I was going to mention in the
- 48:07Speaker 6: when I was talking about my opinion of it is
- 48:09Speaker 6: that all the astronauts talk about you know, this is
- 48:15Speaker 6: the first feature film made about the Apollo program and
- 48:18Speaker 6: it wasn't about.
- 48:19Speaker 2: The moon landing. Yeah, and people within And.
- 48:22Speaker 6: That's what people don't realize on the outside, people within NASA.
- 48:26Speaker 6: If you ask people in NASA what was the biggest
- 48:28Speaker 6: triumph of the Apollo program, they all say Apollo thirteen. Wow,
- 48:31Speaker 6: Because They said that demonstrated the system the best because
- 48:35Speaker 6: we were able. We had built so many failed safes
- 48:38Speaker 6: in and we built such a structure of support that
- 48:43Speaker 6: it was impossible, it was almost statistically impossible to get
- 48:45Speaker 6: him back. But they all they all banned it up
- 48:48Speaker 6: and got him back. So the guys involved with that
- 48:50Speaker 6: all say that, Yeah, Pollo thirteen was the was the
- 48:53Speaker 6: high point for sure.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Michig control.
- 48:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that's crazy, but.
- 48:57Speaker 6: Yeah, the collective effort, that's that's the other thing. You're
- 48:59Speaker 6: trying to get home, and everybody wants everybody works together
- 49:02Speaker 6: to get them.
- 49:02Speaker 3: Home, especially everyone together to get them home, knowing that
- 49:08Speaker 3: probably won't work.
- 49:09Speaker 2: You know what I mean, But they just themselves.
- 49:12Speaker 3: You know what I mean, Like everyone has to know that.
- 49:15Speaker 3: They're all very intelligent, you know, like they they just had.
- 49:18Speaker 6: One of the one of the books I read, they
- 49:20Speaker 6: talk about how they say it was they were until
- 49:24Speaker 6: they couldn't do anything, they were going to do anything. Yeah,
- 49:27Speaker 6: I love that, And they said, and so they would fit,
- 49:29Speaker 6: they would solve one problem, they'd be like, okay, we're
- 49:33Speaker 6: okay for now, and then they didn't know what was
- 49:36Speaker 6: going to happen. The margins were Slim and the chances
- 49:39Speaker 6: them getting back with Slim, But until they got there,
- 49:42Speaker 6: they were going to try and they just kept doing it. Yeah,
- 49:46Speaker 6: it's really a and when you really, as I've read
- 49:49Speaker 6: more and understand the engineering of what actually happened and
- 49:53Speaker 6: what they were up against, it is astounding that they
- 49:57Speaker 6: got back, like truly, and the more I learned a
- 50:00Speaker 6: about it, the more astounded I am that they got back.
- 50:03Speaker 6: It really is a It's a pretty wild story.
- 50:06Speaker 3: I love it. What other runners up did we have?
- 50:09Speaker 3: I feel like I've talked for a long time.
- 50:11Speaker 2: We mentioned all kind of the main actors.
- 50:13Speaker 6: Ron Howard's brother, what's his name, Clinlint He plays cy Liebergott.
- 50:20Speaker 6: Who's the guy who First, he's the guy who in
- 50:22Speaker 6: mission control. It's his system that blows up.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Oh I didn't realize that.
- 50:26Speaker 6: Okay, cool, Yeah, so he's the guy at mission control.
- 50:29Speaker 6: Whose job? But you know, all the mission control guys
- 50:32Speaker 6: have a different job. These guys calculate where they're going.
- 50:35Speaker 6: These guys execute how to do that. These guys are
- 50:37Speaker 6: looking at the lunar module. These guys are looking at
- 50:39Speaker 6: the command module electrics. These guys are worried about communications,
- 50:43Speaker 6: that's what all those dudes are doing. Clinton Howard's character
- 50:46Speaker 6: was the guy looking at the power and life support
- 50:49Speaker 6: for the command module. So when that all blew to Smithereens,
- 50:52Speaker 6: it was his screen that it came up on. And
- 50:55Speaker 6: the real guy is kind of a celebrity in the
- 50:58Speaker 6: in the Apollo nerd circle and he does a lot
- 51:00Speaker 6: of speaking engagements because he was the guy that he
- 51:04Speaker 6: just he said it's a quadruple flate. This is impossible, right,
- 51:07Speaker 6: and they're all going, well, what do we do? And
- 51:09Speaker 6: it's his job and he's like, I don't know.
- 51:12Speaker 3: We can't even come back from this kind of talk about.
- 51:15Speaker 6: The hot seat. He was in that spot. But yeah,
- 51:17Speaker 6: Clinton Howard did a good job of that on that
- 51:19Speaker 6: character to that of really of figuring that out. And
- 51:23Speaker 6: you can see the you know, the stress in his
- 51:25Speaker 6: face as he's dealing with it too.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yeah, well sweating.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I love that.
- 51:32Speaker 2: The kid Tom Hanks's son, really his name is Minko Hughes,
- 51:38Speaker 2: but did you recognize him?
- 51:39Speaker 3: Bukes Big time Kindergarten cop Baby Kindergarten.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Copht a kid that says boys have a penis, girls
- 51:47Speaker 2: have a vagina In Kindergarten Cop so good, and I
- 51:53Speaker 2: was like, but he was, he was pretty sweet. Who
- 51:56Speaker 2: was in that movie? I don't even know that was him?
- 51:58Speaker 2: Was that his son? Yeah?
- 52:00Speaker 6: Gym level military school?
- 52:02Speaker 3: No, sorry, four kids, that's right.
- 52:06Speaker 6: The kid that he's showing like on the bed, that's
- 52:08Speaker 6: his real son. See, I didn't even know.
- 52:10Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no no no. I mean he's
- 52:13Speaker 2: just an actor his name, but he was always just
- 52:16Speaker 2: saying I see what you said. He was just all
- 52:18Speaker 2: That actor was also in Kindergarten Cop and I had
- 52:22Speaker 2: to look it up. I was like, it looks like
- 52:23Speaker 2: an older version of that kid. And that kid always
- 52:26Speaker 2: cracked me up. I kindergarten.
- 52:27Speaker 3: I was like, I know this kid. I did the
- 52:31Speaker 3: same thing.
- 52:32Speaker 6: I think he did, like a cough drop commercial in
- 52:34Speaker 6: the in the nineties.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, probably.
- 52:37Speaker 2: Yeah. There were so many people in that command uh
- 52:42Speaker 2: command room, that control room. Yes that I recognized, you.
- 52:46Speaker 6: Know, yeah, later on that We're in a lot of
- 52:48Speaker 6: things later.
- 52:49Speaker 2: On, so many people and uh Rant Howard was the reverend.
- 52:53Speaker 2: That's his his.
- 52:55Speaker 3: Dad, And yeah, I didn't realize that was his dad.
- 52:57Speaker 3: I've seen him in a few things. I think it's
- 52:59Speaker 3: his mom. Jim Lovell's mom is Ron Howard's mom too.
- 53:02Speaker 2: That's cool that they did that well. And they had
- 53:06Speaker 2: Rob Ryner's daughter as Bill Paxton's wife, Tracy Ryner.
- 53:10Speaker 5: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah right.
- 53:13Speaker 3: She was good too.
- 53:13Speaker 2: I liked her, Yeah, she was really good.
- 53:16Speaker 6: I like Ron Howard movies. I like Ron Howard movies.
- 53:19Speaker 6: I like Ron Howard. Yeah, just same in general. But
- 53:22Speaker 6: I do like that it's always a family affair for him. Yeah,
- 53:24Speaker 6: that is always, and it's not just I mean, they're
- 53:27Speaker 6: bit parts, but they're like highly visible bit parts. He's
- 53:29Speaker 6: not afraid to flaunt that nepotism.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's good.
- 53:34Speaker 2: They could act, they can act a Clint Howard's always
- 53:37Speaker 2: funny and everything he puts them in, you know. But yeah,
- 53:41Speaker 2: nobody else. I really have to mention just that I
- 53:43Speaker 2: recognized a lot of people and they were all very good.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Sammy's Well, then why don't we move to our favorite
- 53:50Speaker 2: scene and let's choose the Dingus.
- 53:52Speaker 3: The Dingas sonas is quite simple, really Ingus Dingus. I
- 53:57Speaker 3: could talk about my Dingas all night long. Car, Pat,
- 54:00Speaker 3: that's your favorite scene.
- 54:02Speaker 2: I'm excited to hear what your favorite scene is.
- 54:04Speaker 6: My favorite scene is it's almost a toss up, but
- 54:08Speaker 6: it it's a it's almost a toss up between the
- 54:11Speaker 6: launch scene, yes, and the re entry splashdown scene, but
- 54:16Speaker 6: the tension build of the re entry splashdown scene and
- 54:22Speaker 6: the payoff, like when it shows the whole room cheering. Ye,
- 54:26Speaker 6: And like you guys said, I've seen this movie thousand times.
- 54:28Speaker 6: I know exactly what's going to happen, but it's still
- 54:31Speaker 6: they do it in such a way it's still you're
- 54:33Speaker 6: just like, yeah, but I yeah that I think the
- 54:37Speaker 6: re entry and splashdown and everybody cheering in them coming home.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Is that accurate? That? Yes, that there been three minutes,
- 54:46Speaker 2: but they did it more like four minutes.
- 54:48Speaker 3: Yeah, So what happened was, Yeah, that was so cool.
- 54:52Speaker 6: You know, they're able to calculate this stuff to the second.
- 54:54Speaker 6: And what they didn't realize was that on the command
- 54:57Speaker 6: module there was a little radiator on the outside to
- 54:59Speaker 6: cool their gear, and this radiator put out a little
- 55:03Speaker 6: bit of water and it was just enough water coming
- 55:05Speaker 6: out of it to change their trajectory enough that they
- 55:09Speaker 6: came in like a minute and almost a minute and
- 55:10Speaker 6: a half or two minutes later than they had calculated.
- 55:13Speaker 6: So when the clock gets to zero and he says
- 55:16Speaker 6: that's zero, and they don't hear anything that really happened,
- 55:20Speaker 6: And then another minute went by, and then another almost
- 55:22Speaker 6: another minute went by, and then they so yeah that
- 55:25Speaker 6: that's the other part why I love that scene is
- 55:28Speaker 6: like they were they all were.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Horrified.
- 55:32Speaker 6: Yeah, and they say all the accounts say it was
- 55:34Speaker 6: pin drop silence in mission control except for the guy
- 55:37Speaker 6: asking if they could if he could hear them, and
- 55:41Speaker 6: that which made them making it an't even that much
- 55:44Speaker 6: bigger than they But yeah.
- 55:45Speaker 2: No, that was that.
- 55:46Speaker 6: That was not a that was not theatrical license. That
- 55:50Speaker 6: was really how that happened.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Also, dude, like, how crazy that they can figure out, Oh,
- 55:55Speaker 3: the reason we were a minute and a half off
- 55:57Speaker 3: is because of this register, which was a little bit
- 56:00Speaker 3: of water, which you know, like that's insane. That's insane too.
- 56:04Speaker 3: All of it's just crazy the stuff that.
- 56:06Speaker 6: Also, the computer that the computer that went to the moon,
- 56:09Speaker 6: the computer on board right landed them on the moon,
- 56:13Speaker 6: was I think I just figured this out. Thirty seven No, yeah,
- 56:17Speaker 6: thirty seven k. The whole computer was thirty seven K wow,
- 56:21Speaker 6: which is just bigger than an email, probably smaller than
- 56:24Speaker 6: the email. You guys sent me the outline of the
- 56:26Speaker 6: podcast and they figure all that out. They figure that
- 56:31Speaker 6: with that and slide rules.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Crazy, it's crazyane crazy.
- 56:38Speaker 6: Yeah, that's my favorite. The splashdown is my favorite for sure.
- 56:41Speaker 2: That is a great scene. I've had that up there.
- 56:43Speaker 2: I was probably going more to the rocket launch scene
- 56:46Speaker 2: just because all of it kind of came together with
- 56:51Speaker 2: the visuals, the amazing score underneath it.
- 56:55Speaker 6: The score on launches, Oh pretty hid me goosebumps, just yeah,
- 57:03Speaker 6: you know, the actors looking pretty freaked.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Out, well they're getting buckled in and then actually you know,
- 57:10Speaker 2: going for it. But I just yeah, that whole scene
- 57:13Speaker 2: you're just kind of holding your breath. And also just
- 57:16Speaker 2: like it's just so beautifully shot. Yeah, yeah, yeah, epic.
- 57:22Speaker 3: I love that. Those two were my ones. I was
- 57:25Speaker 3: trying to decide between, so it might be a dual
- 57:27Speaker 3: Dingus situation. Uh, totally agree that. Like the triumph emotionally
- 57:33Speaker 3: at the end is my maybe my favorite part of
- 57:35Speaker 3: the movie just in general. But that launch and again
- 57:39Speaker 3: that shot we get like through the booster, the halo
- 57:42Speaker 3: of the earth and all that is just so.
- 57:45Speaker 6: Cool, which which some more nerdy for you. They that's
- 57:48Speaker 6: based off of a real shot where that you're talking
- 57:51Speaker 6: about when the ring comes off, yeah, and then spins
- 57:54Speaker 6: away to the They the first Saturn five they launched ever,
- 57:59Speaker 6: didn't have people on it, and they it was full
- 58:02Speaker 6: of cameras because they didn't know if it was going
- 58:04Speaker 6: to work totally, and it was the first time they
- 58:06Speaker 6: tried instead of trying all the parts separate, it was
- 58:08Speaker 6: a big step. They decided, let's just throw it together
- 58:10Speaker 6: and see if it works. And the first one worked
- 58:13Speaker 6: perfectly was apoll Of four and that shot and there
- 58:18Speaker 6: was cameras and instrumentations so in case anything went wrong.
- 58:21Speaker 6: But there's a that's almost a second for section reproduction
- 58:25Speaker 6: of the shot from Apollo four. Wow.
- 58:27Speaker 3: So if you look up apoll Of if you look
- 58:28Speaker 3: at that cool search.
- 58:29Speaker 6: That and look up Apollo four, you'll see the actual
- 58:32Speaker 6: shot that they took it from, which is identical to that.
- 58:35Speaker 6: And keep in mind, at that time, and that would
- 58:37Speaker 6: have been sixty six when that flu, nobody had seen that,
- 58:42Speaker 6: nobody had been to space, and so this you know,
- 58:44Speaker 6: this cameras on this this spaceship and then the camera
- 58:48Speaker 6: was in this little pod that re entered and they
- 58:49Speaker 6: went and scooped it out of the ocean and they
- 58:51Speaker 6: put the film on the projector and then that's what
- 58:53Speaker 6: they saw. No one had ever seen anything like that,
- 58:57Speaker 6: but yeah, that's a real shot.
- 59:01Speaker 3: A couple of runners up that I had, uh where
- 59:04Speaker 3: they're building the CO two filter. I think that such
- 59:08Speaker 3: a fun scene, just showing you know, the crazy stuff
- 59:14Speaker 3: they have to do, and like how great these people
- 59:17Speaker 3: are at their jobs and stuff. I just think that's
- 59:19Speaker 3: what they want.
- 59:20Speaker 6: They want a problem like that to solve, right, can
- 59:22Speaker 6: say something.
- 59:23Speaker 3: To solve because you know they loved it too, right,
- 59:25Speaker 3: They were like, yeah, you know it's a puzzle. Great.
- 59:28Speaker 6: You know, we were just watching upstairs because the new book,
- 59:33Speaker 6: the new Hunger Games book came out, the oh the
- 59:36Speaker 6: Hamage book. Alyssa just finished it. I haven't ready yet,
- 59:38Speaker 6: but she was like, I want to watch Hunger Games again.
- 59:40Speaker 6: So that's what she's doing right now.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Nice.
- 59:42Speaker 6: And she was like, they did a really good job
- 59:44Speaker 6: in this movie of you know, of taking the narration
- 59:46Speaker 6: and putting it in the dialogue. And I was saying,
- 59:48Speaker 6: I'm going to mention this on the show about Paul thirteen,
- 59:52Speaker 6: Like there's a perfect example. They build that filter and
- 59:55Speaker 6: they're showing them, and they're doing all the technical stuff,
- 59:59Speaker 6: like we got to make the thing, and it's going
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: to take scrub the co two because there's not enough
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: lithium hydroxide and it doesn't fit in the blah blah
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: blah blah blah.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: And then they did.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: This all throughout the movie. Like a little throwaway line,
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: you just hear a guy go, we got a middle filter,
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: which is the explanation for everybody who doesn't know what
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: the hell is going on. And if you watch that
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: movie again, there'll be whole strings of jargon.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: And then a guy like, wow, got to build a filter.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: Like when they talk about the power constraint and they're like, man,
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: you can't run a coffee machine on that. That's to
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: give people context all little power they have, they can't
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: run a coffee machine. And they did a really good
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: job of And I think that's why everyone that was
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: so universally like, because you didn't have to be.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Unnerd to understand.
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: What they did, but in a very subtle, like not
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: in your face way, in a very clever way.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: I did like that, and the only other one I
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: had was the manual burn sequence. Coincidentally, the title of
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: my sex tape was all so I swear I liked that.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: I liked that scene before I thought of the joke,
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: but I definitely put it.
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: That's pretty good.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Does Mississippi dry rub fit into that joke somewhere so.
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: I forgot, Yeah, manual burns, But that scene is just
- 1:01:31Speaker 9: super duper intense, and.
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: Like, I think that that's arguably arguably the most intense
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: like for pounds seeing that scene.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: Also, like the exposition that you said, would they hold
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: the flat piece of paper on the news story and
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: they're like they got what they hit? I was like,
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: thank you, that's awful, Okay, you know or whatever, like
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: that's crazy. But I just love that scene too. That's good.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Another really intense scene is just when he stirs
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: the tanks and then yes, everything's going haywire, and yeah,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: that was so intense.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: When I have a hard time in the past, if
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: I've had a hard time sleeping. The Apollo flight control
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: loop from mission control, so they're on headsets talking to
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: each other in mission control.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: That was all taped and.
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: You can go online now and listen to like you
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: can listen to the Clint. You can listen to the
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: Clint Howard character talking to his guys in the back
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: room that are like, we don't know what's going on,
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: and we got to free this out. And the gene
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: kranz Ed Harris character his loop and it has the
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: whole first three hours from the time it happens for
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: the next three hours, and it's fascinating because you listen
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: to how much they pulled. That's the other thing, like
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: as that explosion happened, the back and forth they're having
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: trying to figure out is mostly just directly pulled from
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: the transcripts of what they were saying. But they talk
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: about how you can tell in the spacecraft they were
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: a few steps ahead of the ground because they could
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: they felt it, they could feel how big it was.
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: And they said they were already moving into the lunar
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: module while the ground was still trying to figure the
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: problem out. But yeah, that they do good job of
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: that scene too, really getting the confusion, the chaos of
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: that whole thing. Can you imagine being I think there
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: were three quarters to the moon and then hearing a
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: massive explosion and then looking at your gauges in the
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: all the oxygens is zero. Then you look out the
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: window and there's just oxygen blown away.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: No, I mean, yeah, life is weird, like realizing I
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: would never be that brave.
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: Growing up, you know what I mean, Like I've never
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: gotten myself into that situation.
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: I would never be even close to that, And not
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: that anyone would want to put me there, you know,
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: but also I just couldn't.
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: That's crazy.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: And part of that too, that with they talk about
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: that failure in the tank, which you know, if we
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: had an hour, I.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: Could tell you exactly what happened.
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: But that failure in the tank was something that had
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: occurred a year or two before the actual incident that
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: caused ultimately the demise of it, and it was kind
- 1:04:06Speaker 6: of arbitrary when it was going to happen. It couldn't
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: have happened in a better time, and any a better
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: time in the mission if they had gotten to the
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: point where they'd landed, and when they land you know,
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: the lunar mogic goes down and the command module stays
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: right around. If it would have happened, then they all
- 1:04:22Speaker 6: would have died because they because the lunar mogic would
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: have been on the planet. If they would have been
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: on their way back and they had gotten rid of
- 1:04:27Speaker 6: the lunar module because after they landed that order to
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: go right, they ditch it. Yeah, it couldn't have happened.
- 1:04:34Speaker 6: It could have. They talk about it. There was the
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: margin of time they had before that would have not
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: been survivable was so slim. It could not have happened
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: at a better moment. Wow, And it all lined up
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: that way.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: It was a good thing he shared the tanks. Yeah,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: it is. Oh, it's crazy at that time.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Also, I love that scene where he's like any of
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: us could have done, you know, like where he's clearly
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: carrying that still you know a little.
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: Bit well, and bill Packs's character like, what a great shame. Yeah,
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: I don't know what it said.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: That's the way.
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, it didn't really help. Yeah, but then
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: didn't have her.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Point of Yeah, but I love.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: Is there any scenes?
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: Yeah? The only other scene I put down was I
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: loved all of the U I guess missus Lovell scenes,
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: but his mom.
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: They're so good.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: I love that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 6: It's like when Neil Armstrong and.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: Buzzled are you Boys program? Exactly?
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: He was funny, but then also she was just so
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: confident that he was going to be coming back and
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: just has a great line that I love that one.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: But anytime she came on on camera, she kind of
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: crushed it.
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Yeah, she was so great.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And I.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Love that when they go sit with her, like when
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: they're returning. That's so great.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: But if we're picking some ding guy, I think I
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: think we should do a dual ding guy and do
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the rocket launch scene and the splashdown the re entry.
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: The re entry they're both as they both pack as
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: much of a punch, but in totally different They're like book.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: They're like bookend totally the.
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: Biggest epic scenes that book and the whole thing, as
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: they should be because those are the two biggest you know, yeah.
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: I love that. I feel comfortable with that.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Good. Well, then why don't we talk about some of
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: the quotes in this and let's show me the money,
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: show me the money, show me.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: Some quotes.
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: Well, I mean, the obvious choice is not the one
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: I picked. The choice I picked was failure is not
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: an option.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: That's a great one.
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: Because of what because of what I was saying before,
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: and because that was kind of the that was really
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: the mindset they were in. It is not that is
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: not an option. I love that, and then obviously my Yeah,
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: the backup, the backup to that would be obviously, Houston,
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: we have a problem.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Of course became part of the lexicon.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, the.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Actual not quite the red line, right.
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: Houston, we've had a problem.
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: Yeah, because the.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: First guy said we have a problem, they went what
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: and he said, we've.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: Had a problem. That's pretty crazy, but that's acceptable.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: I like that, So that'll be the name of this
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: episode for sure. Yeah, there were a lot of great ones.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I love when he says, gentlemen, it's been a privileged
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: flying with you, so great. I bet somebody had a
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: boohoo or maybe a tear come down maybe or maybe
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: when he just says and he's kind of still just
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: in shock, just like we just lost the moon.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Just lost the moon.
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that one's pretty Yeah, that like immediate.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: Realization is pretty wild. Yeah.
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: Yeah, that's about as emotional as he gets on the
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: way back.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Totally realizes that.
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: And the thing people don't realize about Jim Lovell he
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: was he read a book about Goddard, who was the
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: father of rocketry. In this well totally globally, but he
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: was from the United States. He checked out a book
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: from the school library when he's in like sixth grade
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: and made it his mission right then to someday walk
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: on the moon. So like that was his sixth grade
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: childhood ambition. He was he had gone on Apollo eight
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: circled the moon for the first time.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Which is you could do a whole another thing on.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: That, right, But he was going to do it, and
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: then he got there and it broke and he couldn't go.
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: So it's like for him, I mean for him as
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: an astronaut, that's disappointing, but for jim Lovell as a
- 1:08:50Speaker 6: human being, that was incredibly devastating and he knew he
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: wasn't going to go back. Yeah, So yeah, that's a
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: good one. That's a good pick.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: That's wild.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: I also so loved them. It says Blanche level, are
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: you scared, Well, don't you worry, honey. If they could
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: I love that line.
- 1:09:12Speaker 6: So the good one is uh is uh when the
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: national management, seeing the president, wants odds right and they said,
- 1:09:22Speaker 6: I don't know, he's three to one, four to one,
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: I don't know, And gene Krantz turns around, pissed off
- 1:09:27Speaker 6: and says gentlemen, Yeah, I think this is going to
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: be our finest hour, and then kind of just stares
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: him down, like yeah, but that was the I mean,
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: that was that was how they got home. Was that
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: was the attitude like until we have a reason to
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: believe we're not, we're coming home, yep.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: And it just all worked.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: Yeah, And to me, honestly, it's it's a lot of
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: it's sort of akin to the same idea of like
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: why if you can help it. I understand we can't always,
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: but if you can help it, why worry about a
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: potential bad outcome and go through it twice? Like, yeah,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: it might happen, but you'll deal with it at that point,
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: you know, and like there's nothing we can do about it.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: An Now.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: I just love that attitude of like I until I improven,
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: otherwise I will assume this is our finest hour and
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: like almost like will it into existence. I love that.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: I think that's so guys.
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: The guys on the ship talk about how they don't
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: talk about this in the movie, Well, they talk a
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: little bit about how, you know, at the end they
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: have to power this thing back up. It was never
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: designed to be shut off, right, and they had to
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: shut it all off on the way out to the moon,
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: and then it just sat off for days and then
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: they'd turn it back on, which was just not they
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: were not Nobody knew how to do that. But they
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: didn't have much power because the thing was broken and
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: all they had were batteries, and they had to get
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: in one of the things they were trying to bargain
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: for to heat the parachutes, to heat the pyros that
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: shoot the parachutes out, and they didn't have enough power.
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: In real life, they didn't have enough power to do that,
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: and so they were like, were they tested it, you know,
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: while they were on their way back the people at
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: the factories that built it. That's another good quote where
- 1:10:58Speaker 6: he says, no, I don't want to know what these
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: things are capable. I don't want to know what these
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: things were designed to do. I want to know what
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: they're capable of doing. Which was so all the guys
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: in the factor all those factories that built every part
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: of that ship remained open twenty four to seven from
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: the time they heard about it until the time they
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: landed and asked could call the people with the parachutes
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: and say, we're not going to be able to warm
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: these things up?
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Are they going to work?
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: And they say, we'll test it, And they went somewhere and
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: got them cold and tested it and they thought it
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: was going to work. But crazy, they didn't know until
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: the parachutes came out if the parachutes were going to
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: come out. But Jim Lovell talks about in his book.
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: He's like, I couldn't. There was nothing we could do
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: about it, right, So there was no sense spending even
- 1:11:36Speaker 6: an ounce of worry on it because there's nothing.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: We can do, right yep, I'm just doing control. You know.
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: There's good lessons in life for everybody.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's great. We could all use that advice.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: I did for sure, and I didn't write it down,
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: so forget me. I don't remember the exact but when
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: he's like you're thinking of step four hundred and sixty
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: two and we're on forty two or you know whatever
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: it is right where, it's like, we got it, solve
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: this problem right out. Yeah.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Yeah. That was when Swigert was saying that they were
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: coming in too steep.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like we're coming in. You know, it's
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: like you're not wrong, but also.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: You know we're not there.
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: We're not worried about that, right, that's great. Rap, did
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: you have a few more? You go for it, You
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: go for it. I loved when he's like, they're going
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: to to like release the the p basically like to
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: have their Watsons and the constellation, the constellation you ride.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I realized that because I say, you ran all the
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: time from this I got it from this movie. I
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: love that.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: Right before that, after he's been puking, he's like, Hey,
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: I'm hungry. I could eat the ass out of dead rhinoceros.
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: I was going to bring that up when you're talking
- 1:12:47Speaker 6: about Bill Paxson before the levity.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: He brought it.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: That's so funny, and they all kind of look at
- 1:12:51Speaker 6: him like okay, cool, okay, fine.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: I guess I'm not hungry anymore.
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: Also, when they talk about and uh, Fred Hayes is
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: so sick and they're talking about I think I shared
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: because jack was actually like a woman, a bachelor astronaut. Yeah,
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: and so him joking about I think I got the class.
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: I was using old Jackson. You're into I think I
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: got the clap and he says, oh, that'll be another
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: first for our fine American space program.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: That's so good.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: He really also did not file his taxes.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: That's ane that Clinton don't get joke.
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: I think that's in the trivia. He had had some
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: actual tax problems and he like ad lipped that line.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: I guess they like they'll come after. I guess Clint
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: Howard actually had some some tax stuff. Yeah, that's pretty wild. Uh.
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: I just love when they're talking about the c O
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: two filter and they're like the square peg groundhole or whatever,
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: and Ed Harrison like, why I suggest you, gentlemen, find
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: a way to put a square bag in a round
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: hole rapidly rapidly again, just like, okay, sir, right now.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: I just love that.
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: One of the Another one that kind of sneaks by
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: is after they bring the filter into mission, controller said,
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: they tell him they got to build that, and they
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: start reading it off, and then in the background this
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: guy kind of slaps him on the back and said, boy,
- 1:14:21Speaker 6: you are a steely eyed miss. That term that is
- 1:14:28Speaker 6: the highest form of compliment. You can give it a controller.
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: One of the Michigan Control guys. If if and it's
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: not dealt out, it's not handed out. The guy who
- 1:14:38Speaker 6: played the guy who was helping maddingly. John Aaron, the
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: guy who's helping with the power. Yeah, yeah, he's that's
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: that's a real guy. And and everybody agrees in the
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: Missigan control lore that of all time, the most capable
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: guy in mission control ever was John Aaron. That's crazy,
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: and he was. He was the first one that they
- 1:14:57Speaker 6: and it was because of Apollo twelve, which that's a
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: whole other story. I get by lightning on during launch
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Apollo twelve. Guy by lightning and he knew how to
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: fix it right now, and everybody's like, how did you
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: know that? And after that they said you are a
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: steely eyed missileman. So that that was a little nod
- 1:15:11Speaker 6: to that, to that culture too, because yeah, that the
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: steely eyed missileman is that's not a compliment you hand out. Yeah,
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: you have to earn that compliment and you remember the
- 1:15:21Speaker 6: rest of your life. So I was I thought that
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: was cool that they I wrote that.
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: I wrote that quote down too, because and this will
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: come up in the future, and I swear I did
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: this before. But they also say that in the Martian
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: as well, and I didn't realize that it was like
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: a NASA thing.
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a deep cut NASA.
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Which I thought was really cool. That's fun and the
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: Martians may or may not be coming up for us.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: It's a yellow might be.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: But yeah, I love that. I loved too when Tom
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: Hanks is like, we're not going to go bounce it
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: off the walls for ten minutes and then just stand
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: up back here with the same problems figuring out how
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: to stay alive, Aquarius, this is Houston. Are we on Fox?
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: And you know what I mean?
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: Like when he's and then he's like, work.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: I love that too.
- 1:16:09Speaker 6: So that's a that's a real gym level quote. I
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: don't know if you said it on the mission, but
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: he said it in interview subsequent about how he said, well,
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: you know, we could just bounce off the wall for
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: ten minutes and we back where we started. The Vox
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: thing really happened where they get on Vox and yeah,
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: and they were swearing and somebody's like, oh, you're.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: On Vox, now, okay, when you want it on you're
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: on Vox.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: We can hear everything you're saying. No, that that really
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: was so great.
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: I also love when he's like, so let's look at
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: this from a standpoint of status. What do we have
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: on the spaceship. That's good. I'll have to get back
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: to you, Gene.
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: That is that is line for beatim verbatim rip from
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: the transcript mission, because he keeps asking him and asking
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: him and asking him, and finally he just goes, Okay, SI,
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: let's look at this thing from status. What do we
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: got on the space That's good? And in real life
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: he's like, oh, well I give you a sea Yeah,
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: hang on, Yeah, that's I.
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: Think the attention.
- 1:17:11Speaker 6: One of the things I love, especially now that I've
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: become such a nerd about it, is Yeah, the attention
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: to that's where they talk about how they captured the culture,
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: like the Steeling Musselman. They really really went in with
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: a fine tooth device to make sure they got every
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: little cultural nuance of that era. And I think that's
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: why I think that's why I translated, and I think
- 1:17:34Speaker 6: that's why people in the Apollo Moon Race enthusiast community
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: love it so much, because it really is like you
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: can show someone that and it can be equal parts
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: entertainment and like and this is also pretty much exactly
- 1:17:46Speaker 6: how it went down.
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: That's pretty cool. Uh.
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: Also, one I don't remember if I think there's trivia
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: that this was actually said too, But it's kind of
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: a when they're doing their hitting, like the gravitational pull
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: around the moon and headed back and they sort of
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: get distracted, but like that's where we're going to land, like,
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: which is such a cool scene. And then he just like, gentlemen,
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: what are your intentions? I'd like to go home? Like
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: I love that sort of like recentering of like I understand,
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: but also that's not the mission anymore, you know, Like
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: I thought that was so cool.
- 1:18:23Speaker 6: Yeah, they they got the Jim Level character Tom Hanks
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: really good. Yeah, I just nailed It's because that's that again.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: You see. I think a little bit of his pain
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: of not being able to go down. Yeah, he's not
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: even by the windows. He's on the in that shot.
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: He's like folds his arms. He's on the other side, like, yeah,
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: I've already seen it. And uh, he just died Jim
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: Level just a couple like a month ago.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: Oh really just passed man. Yeah, I must be pretty
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: old though, right, I mean he.
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: Was in his mid nineties for him, that's a good run.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: And yeah, I like I liked when he's kind of
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: doing the tour and a lady's like how do you
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: go to the bathroom in space? He says, tell you
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: it's a very complicated procedure that involves cranking down the
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: window and looking for a gas station.
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: It's great.
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: I did love that.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: That's good.
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: I'm trying to think. Alyssa made fun of me because
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: she said, are you going to watch the movie before
- 1:19:21Speaker 6: you do this?
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: It's like, I'm not sure. I'm not. I don't need
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: to know that.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: You didn't rewatch it all?
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: No, right, I mean I just I just watched it
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: like two months, right, Okay, Yeah, that's like I've always
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: recently rewatched it basically going to bed, you know, you know,
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: it is like we go to sleep with the TV on,
- 1:19:39Speaker 6: and I'm just like, if I'm not, if I'm already
- 1:19:42Speaker 6: on my way out, I'll just put that one.
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: Yeah, that's great.
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: I also like that in the beginning of the movie
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: they taught when they're landing on the moon and they're
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: at the level's house, they're having that party.
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: The whole thing about the guy who's like, all I
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: just want to thank you all for coming to my
- 1:19:57Speaker 6: rehearsal for Apollo twelve. That guy was playing pet Conrad,
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: who was that that was also a faithful reproduction of
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: that guy's character. He was just over the top. But
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: they said, who do you want to watch? And everybody's like, Walter, Walter,
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: you got to put on Walter. Walter Cronkite was also
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: unabashedly a space enthusiast while he was reporting. And so
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: if you go back and watch, you know, throughout the
- 1:20:19Speaker 6: years of as they progress getting to the moon, the
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: shot of him when they land on the moon, and
- 1:20:25Speaker 6: it shows Kronkite and takes his glasses like that really,
- 1:20:29Speaker 6: and he said, and he said, there were only one
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: other time, other than Kennedy's assassination that he was speechless
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: on the air.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: But and if you go back that and.
- 1:20:37Speaker 6: Watch that actual clip of them landing, it cuts to
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: Kronkit who's supposed to say something, and he can't. I
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: just can't say anything. So I love that they tipped
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: the cap to to Walter too.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: That's wonderful.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: I think I saw on the trivia that they actually
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: had him say some stuff.
- 1:20:55Speaker 6: At the end. I think at the end any of
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: the narrations, the voice over narration stuff, a lot of
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: that is Walter.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: Crost That's cool, yeah, yeah, and sort of speaking to that.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: I just it's early in the movie, but I'm pretty
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: sure it's Tom Hanks who says it. But he's like,
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: we now live on a planet where a man walked
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: on the Moon. It's not a miracle. We just decided
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: to just decided, like, oh man, that's wild.
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: Also when he says, what does he say, Christopher Columbus,
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: who's the other one? Oh yeah, Charles Christopher Columbus, Charles
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: Limberg and Neil arms.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: Starts laughing, My buddy, Neil, that's hilarious.
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: Who really, they couldn't have picked, from a public affairs
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: standpoint a worse person to go to the Moon first
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: than Neil Armstrong. Yeah, just reticent, dry, not a no charisma,
- 1:21:47Speaker 6: what's but he was also the guy that had the
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: right stuff, as it were.
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: That might come up later.
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, but it wasn't a quote.
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: But I always loved the the thumb bit.
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that is so when he does that from
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: the moon to from looking at the Earth, that's amazing
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: that bit.
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, same.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: Anyway, that was all the lions I had.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: I think, Yeah, yeah, let's just keep going, let's go
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: to bugs boohoo. Moments away, I picked six. I think
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: it could be upwards of ten. But these were the
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: six moments that I I thought, just that liftoff sequence
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: and Tracy Ryner crying.
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: Absolutely one, we just lost the moon. Uh yeah, let
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: me see.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: I'm sure that's a yes, but I want to mark
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: them off to make sure I'm not missing Yes, yes, correct.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: Correct, When his son asks is it the door? Oh
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: the door? Yeah?
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: That killed me.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: That kills on my list too.
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: If they could make a washing machine to fly, my
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: Jimmy could land it. Gentlemen, it's been a privileged flying
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: with you. Yeah, absolutely, yes, of course that was the
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: one I was most confident.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: I wrote basically the entire ending Okay, yeah, but.
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: On mine, I have shoots, recovery, cheering, which is that?
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: So?
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Yeah? And then just the hello Houston, this is the odyssey.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: It's good to see you again.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: Then coming back.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: So those were the six that I Do you think
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: there were any more? Boo's pat uh.
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: No, I was going to say. I was like, there's
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: no way he'll say was it the door? Was it?
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: For sure? When they get home, absolutely for sure?
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: Was it? For sure?
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Was it the door?
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: And there's a scene I think during the manual burn,
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: which you were talking about, was one of your favorite
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: scenes as that's happening. It shows Marilyn in the bedroom.
- 1:24:09Speaker 6: She takes a moment and like sits on the bed
- 1:24:11Speaker 6: by herself after it's done and just cries to herself.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: I had that. I lovezz Yeah. Absolutely, that got me
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: for sure.
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: All right, So that's seven.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: There are a couple more one two. I think four
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: more is what it is. So not only was it
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: the door, but the first time the kid brings it
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: up when he's like, did you know the astronauts that
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: were on fire? You know, I'm like sure, explains it
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: and then he's.
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: Like, can it happen again?
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: You know, Like the kid was so good at the
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: acting there because he like, did they fix it? Yeah?
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: You know, like almost scared to even ask because he
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: doesn't really want the end, you know, I don't know.
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: I just love that. I thought that was so great.
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: Speaking of the fire the book, the way the movie
- 1:24:54Speaker 6: starts with, yeah, that's the voiceover. That's the Cronkite voiceover.
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: The movie starts with him talking about the fire. It
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: was only four years ago after a fire in the
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: launch pan, we find ourselves.
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: The book starts with the fire.
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: Wow, So that was their way to tie on the
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: book in because the book starts the first chapter is
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: just a detailed explanation of the fire and how they
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: wouldn't have gone to the moon had the fire not
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: happened because the program was getting two out of control.
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: They weren't paying enough attention. The fire made everybody stop
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: and say, we got to get our together.
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: Button it up a little bit.
- 1:25:25Speaker 6: But yeah, so the movie starting talking about the fire.
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: That's that's how the schooks started too.
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: So uh, Neil, Neil, just stepping on the moon, And
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: all I wrote was I just can't help it. That
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: always get me, Like again, just humanity doing that, I
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: think is pretty wild and incredible.
- 1:25:44Speaker 6: In nineteen sixty nine. Yeah, humanity doing that in nineteen
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: sixty nine.
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: And again that timeline of like when we flew to
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: that point, like, it's ridiculous, ridiculous. So I wrote that
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: for sure, when Marilyn makes it down to the launch
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: after she has said I'm not gonna be there, like,
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: that got me for sure. I just thought it was lovely.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: You can't live without me without me?
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so cute.
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: Yeah, she said I heard it was going to be
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: a hell of a show. And he said, who told you?
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: Then? Blessome guy? I know, guy, I know. See that's
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: that love story.
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: There's a there's a couple more scenes where he's looking
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: down at the earth. I think it's when he's doing
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: the thumbta the Earth and she's in the yard looking
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: up into space like they really they'd spend a lot
- 1:26:29Speaker 6: of time on those two his relationship, which I think
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: is great.
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: Well, and that's my last one is when all the
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: like all the press is coming to their house and
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: she's like and she says, like, these people don't put
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: a single piece of equipment on my lawn. If they
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: have a problem with it, they can take it up
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: with my husband. He'll be home Friday, you know. Like
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: that again like almost echoing right, the like attitude we
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: have with Ed Harris in the entire program of just
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: like no until this happens, I'm believing, you know what
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: I mean, Like I'm not even thinking about the other
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: option right now.
- 1:27:04Speaker 8: But that got me.
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: I loved it.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: So what is that?
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: It was eleven eleven? Pretty modern?
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: It's eleven. I knew I didn't pick him enough, But
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: did you cry at all?
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, I definitely the.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Kids stuff really got me. That tends to get me
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: now a lot understood.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: I was just more just like SUPERD.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and like I was stressed out. I was really
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: stressed out in this watch. I was, especially after seeing
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: it so many times. I was shocked.
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: I get I get teared up on the launch scene
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: just because it's so much. It's just so big, real,
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: it's so much. Have you seen a launch pat Have
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: you ever been down?
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: Oh god, no, I've been.
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: No. I would love to do that. I'm not even
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: like the craziest, but I bet that's incredible to see,
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: And we're past the era I think of the you know,
- 1:27:56Speaker 6: the Saturn five a rock at that big Sure. Sure
- 1:27:59Speaker 6: they said you don't hear right as much as you
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: know when you're at the fireworks and there's those fireworks
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: that are just little white flashes, but they pound you
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: in the chest that they say you don't hear it.
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: It's just that I feel it for five minutes, just
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: constantly pounding your chest. Yeah, they say, it's really it
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: can only you can only understand it if you've seen it,
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: and no I've not.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: It's great.
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: I've been to one my aunt get this side sidebar.
- 1:28:22Speaker 6: My aunt Dinah has a charm bracelet. She's had for
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: years and years and I was since a little kid.
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: I would always look at it. And she moved and
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: I saw the little box. I said, oh God, I say,
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: your charm bracelet and she said yeah, And I hadn't
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: looked at it years and years, and I pulled it
- 1:28:37Speaker 6: out and I looked and there was a pendant.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: Of the Apollo fourteen missions. And I said, this is
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: like ten years.
- 1:28:45Speaker 6: Fifteen years ago.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: I said, why do you have this?
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: And she's like, oh, Grandpa and I were there. We
- 1:28:51Speaker 6: saw it lunch.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: I said, you watched Apollo fourteen lunch.
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: We've somehow never discussed this and she's like she's like yeah.
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: I was like what why. She's like, I can't remember why.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: They're in Florida, but they're like yeah, so dad. My
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: grandpa was like, anybody want to come with me? And no,
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: nobody else wanted to go, So him and Dinah drove over. Wow, Canaveral.
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: I was like, you saw a Saturn five launch with
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: your own eyes. She was like, yeah, do you, Dinah?
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: I feel like you didn't appreciate it as much as
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: you should have why this is and I'm upset.
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: That's really great.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: Uh yeah, okay, well there's the chemical imbalanced part of this.
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: Let's move on to some movie Cherivia. Now let's see
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: we've said a few so forgive me if I say.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Bill Paxxon, Tom Hanks, and Kevin Bacon were all very
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: proud of the fact that they weren't sick on the
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: Vombit comment and that was the plane that simulated the
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: zero gravity, which we kind of touched on earlier. The
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: cameraman apparently were not so lucky, so people were getting sick.
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: They did like six hundred dives or you would have
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: to have it something here some crazy.
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just it's not and to like look so
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: calm and happy. Also in the yeah, yeah it's crazy.
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: Let's see. In the commentary track, Maryland Level comments that
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: Tom Hanks exactly portrays Jim's mannerisms and style of movement,
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: so she's like, yeah, he nailed it too, which is
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: pretty cool. Would in some of the scenes where the
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: Earth can be seen from the windows of Apollo thirteen,
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: it is one of the photos taken by Jim and
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: Bill on the Apollo eight mission, so some of their
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: actual photos are in there.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: Surety cool. Cool.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: Let's see. Jim wore his old Navy captain's uniform in
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: the scene where he greets the astronauts aboard.
- 1:30:51Speaker 6: The USSI, tim shaking his hand.
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: When Ron Howard asked him if he'd like to be
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: in the film as the ship's admiral. He agreed, but
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: also pointed out I retired as a captain, and a
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: captain I will be, which I think is so cool.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: And also him, you know, based on what we've learned.
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: Uh we said the thing about Jack not actually being
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: you know, like this rookie, so that's a good call
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: for sure, which I love. Marilyn really did lose her
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: ring down the drain, but she eventually found it, so
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: that's that's crazy.
- 1:31:26Speaker 6: YEAHULTI, you know, whatever it was, it's real.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: Let's see. When the real Gym saw the film, he
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: found the c g I work so convincing that he
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: firmly believed that the filmmakers had uncovered some like unseen
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: NASA footage that he'd never seen, which is talk about
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: the best compliment you could get as a filmmaker. I
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: bet you know, like we nailed it. That's cool. They
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: talk about the plutonium that was in them, and they
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: you know, they ditched that and all that stuff.
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: Usually they'd leave that on the ocean. But it's in
- 1:32:06Speaker 6: the ocean somewhere in the India.
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, and apparently it's it's still just down there
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: and they, as far as I know, it's not leaking,
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: which I think is pretty wild and crazy.
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: Hopefully that remains. Yeah, there was a big brewhaha when
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: they were coming in from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that
- 1:32:22Speaker 6: were like, you have a nuclear power source on there
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: that wasn't supposed to come back, and they were coming
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: back and they were like calling out Michigan ConTroll like,
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: what do you want us to do? Okay, we can't
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: do anything like it's coming in.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: I'm sorry, sorry, it's okay. That's amazing. When Fred confesses
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: that his wife's pregnancy was an accident, Jim responds, well,
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: that has a tendency to happen in real life. Maryland
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: accidentally felt pregnant during the Gemini program, and apparently she
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: hid it from her husband for four months because she
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: was afraid it would jeopardize his spot in the gemin
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: and I rotation, which I think is atty. While uh, yeah,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: we said the thing. Ron Howard had Walter Cronkite recording
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: you audio reports to add to the movie, which is
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: so cool. According to astronaut Tom Jones, who was there
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: for part of the shooting, when it was pointed out
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: to Ron Howard that the argument between Hayes and Swiggert
- 1:33:22Speaker 3: or Swigert were never happened, and they would never It
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: wouldn't ever happen between astronauts. Basically, Howard replied, in trying
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: to show a real tense moment in a film, we
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: can only show a sweaty forehead so many times before
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: it least and I get Apparently Tom Joe's just laughed
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: and was like, all right, that's fair, you know, Okay, sure,
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: I buy that.
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: There were a lot of sweaty forethads, especially on Bill Pax.
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: Just the clammy sweaty forehead on him too. Hell uh
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: so on the on the vomit comment. Uh they did.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: They flew six hundred and twelve parabolic arcs. Each arc
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: produced twenty seconds of weightlessness. All of these flights were
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: completed in thirteen days.
- 1:34:11Speaker 6: Ah god.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: And they decommissioned that plane in nineteen ninety five, after
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: twenty two years of service, so that in those twenty
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: twenty to twenty five second first the plane, they got
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: fifty four minutes total of footage in the weightless environment,
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: which is that's insane.
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: Yeah, and how do you add there's like, I don't
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: get it. I suppose you got to get used to it.
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: Ron Howard talks about he said, you know, we were
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: talking about how do we do the weightless You know,
- 1:34:41Speaker 6: we could do platforms, we could have them just kind
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: of doing this around. He's like, there was no and
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: so they called NASA and they're like, can we build
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: our sets in there? And they said sure, yeah, which
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: he said, we kind of thought they were going to
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: say no, and they were like, oh no, now we
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: got to do this crap. Now how do we And
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: do you understand what that? What's they're doing? They're flying
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: up like this right, and then as they get to
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: the top and then pitched downwards. Yeah, it's at the
- 1:35:07Speaker 6: same they're going the same speed that you would be
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: free falling. So the plane tips over and now you're
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: just free falling in the plane with the plane as
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: it's going on.
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: In the sane.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: It's crazy that that works too.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, and then they can do a whole
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: scene like that. Yeah, you know, they'd have to do
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: a scene probably a few times in different spots, and
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: like because it's only how like twenty some seconds.
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: Every time, that would be a feather in my acting
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: cap I would think insane.
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: And none of them puked, like the camera people didn't.
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: That's wild.
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: Anyway, I would have puked.
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: I think that's incredible. I would appeke. I'll puke right
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: now just thinking about it.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Dude, I can't even look at my phone while riding
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: passenger in the car.
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: I love that. Apparently, when Tom Hanks joined the cast,
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: the Real Gym sent him Hotel leg that read Welcome
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: aboard to Paul thirteen, which I bet Tom Hanks just
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: freaked out about if he was that big of a
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: you know, space nerd.
- 1:36:09Speaker 6: Have you seen the AFI Honors for Tom Hanks? There
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: was an a F five he got like the lifetime
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: achievement and it's like kind of like this is your
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: life share and one of the present one of the
- 1:36:18Speaker 6: presenters is Jim Level.
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: Go watch that after this.
- 1:36:21Speaker 6: Okay, I've watched it a thousand times because they're sitting
- 1:36:23Speaker 6: there and then not just says, and now the commander
- 1:36:25Speaker 6: of Apollo thirteen, Captain Jim Lovell, and Tom Hanks just
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: goes oh, and you can see him going, oh my god.
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: And then Jim level comes out.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: He reacts to him the way we react to Tom Hanks. Yes, yeah, yeah,
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: I love that. That's amazing. I want to watch that immediately.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: Let's say we said that one. This is Ron Howard's
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: favorite of his own films, which is pretty cool. Let's
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: see the crawler seem moving in the background of one
- 1:37:01Speaker 3: of the scenes as Apollo thirteen is being moved from
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: the assembly building to the you know, to the launch
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: pad I think is where it's going. That's the real
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: NASA Crawler and Ron Howard actually got to drive it,
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: which is pretty cool.
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: So that's see I should I didn't.
- 1:37:15Speaker 6: I didn't think of that. Summer around here. Have got
- 1:37:17Speaker 6: a bag of rocks from the the crawler rides on rocks.
- 1:37:22Speaker 6: His uncle, Elyssa's uncle's a tugboat captain and brought some
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: SpaceX crap to Canaveral and while he was there, he
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: like scooped up a bunch of the rocks from that
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: road to bad So that's cool.
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: That's really cool.
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: Allegedly, let's see, he got a UTI we talked about.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the condom le sleeve. We talked about that.
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: They all had humongous I think was the right size.
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: According to Ed Harris, his portrayal of gene Krant's reaction
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: to the Astronauts survival almost overcome with the motion. I
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: think we said this one was inspired by that interview.
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: So Pat you did say that, which I just thought
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: was so cool. This is crazy to me. So after
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: the premiere of the film, director Ron Howard asked the
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: audience members to write reviews of the film. While most
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: of the reviews were positive, one review stated there's no
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: way the crew would have ever survived the mission, and
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: so he often talks about that, and he's like, well,
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: not everyone's gonna love everything. There's gonna be one person
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: that doesn't know it's based on a true story.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: That's hilarious. Incredible, Uh, not believable.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: Not believable. We said that Ron Howard's mom and dad
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: we said that, Oh, I thought, actually so. Garysonise did
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: get to choose his part after Tom Hanks was cast.
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: Garrisonise was free to choose his part. When I looked
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: at it, he said, I want to play that guy.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: Without him, they won't get back. So I thought that
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: was really cool and a cool, cool, cool part of
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: the movie. That was all that I had, Rob, did
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: you some.
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: I just had a couple actors up for roles and things.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: Brad Pitt turned down and offer to star in this film,
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: and he chose to star in Seven, which was a
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: good choice for him.
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's hard dark wow. Yep. Would he have been
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: Kevin Bacon's part probably in there, That's what I was.
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: That would be my guest, the younger m Yeah, and
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: I can't picture him as one of the mission control guys.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: John Cusack and Charlie Sheen were originally offered the role
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: of Fred Hayes, but they turned it down. Val Kilmer
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: was offered Jack Swygert and he turned it down to
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: do Batman Forever and The Ghost of Darkness. Also great choices,
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: but Val Kilmer would have been pretty great great. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: he would have been really great. And then it just
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: says Tom Hanks turned down Jumanji to be in this movie.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: Wo no, wow, which Williams straightened.
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: Yeah that worked out, Yeah, that worked out.
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: So that's another reason I love Tom Hanks is he
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: followed his passion on this one so great. Yeah, He's like,
- 1:40:12Speaker 6: I gotta do this movie.
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: I have to do it.
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: It's like Space and Typewriters and home Free. These are
- 1:40:17Speaker 3: three things I love. These are the three things I'd
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: love the most. That's awesome, Pat, did we say any
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: trivia that we didn't get to say that you like
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: desperately need to get in?
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: I mean there's how there's we don't. I mean, we're
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: going to be here till two in the morning.
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: I figured a lot of Okay, so I think I'm
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: comfortable with the amount that I have disclosed it.
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: But I love it.
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: Yes, will there be a sequel Judgment Day? No?
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: No fourteen?
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: No?
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: Yeah, probably no.
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: No.
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: No fourteen would be boring because it worked.
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: It's never great when it works.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: No, Well, then, do you guys want to play a game?
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: I did. I just made it the thing called the
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: plot tub time Machine, And I'm gonna give the plot
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: of a movie to you guys, and you're gonna have
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: one guest to figure out what it is. There's no
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: negative points. You can get an extra point if you
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: know what ties all of these movies together. So what
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: the theme is with all of these movies, what nice?
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: Are we?
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: Ready?
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: Later?
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: All right? Here we go Number one first, first one
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: to answer kind of a so yeah, and to yes,
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: thank you, to ring in you're gonna say your name?
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: So I know who first? Good call?
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: All right. Number one secretly is fine but thought by
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: his family to be a dull salesman. Here he is
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: tracking down nuclear missiles and mugs. True Lives, True Lives
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: is correct. I love it. I'm gonna do terrible in
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: this that one that long ago. And he also love
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: that movie, so I figured he would get that one
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: pretty quick.
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: His name is Harry Tucker. I think I think it's Taskers.
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: You're right, I'm gonna shut out. Yeah, I'm gonna cut that.
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: It wasn't Tom what's his name from UMD in that movie? Yes, Yes,
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: Tom is Tom Is Bell was the reporter on the exactly.
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: We had Benny Ella John for that episode and he
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: got to talk to So I bet all right, let's
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: go to number two. Yeah. After floating in space for
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: fifty seven years, a Lieutenant Shuttle is found by a
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: deep space salvage team. Upon arriving at LV four twenty six,
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: the Marines find only one survivor, a nine year old
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: girl named Newt. But even these battle hardened marines with
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: all the latest weaponry are no match for the hundreds
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: of aliens that have invaded the colony.
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: Wow, five bugs or aliens? That is it? Okay, okay,
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: all right, you got it. It was the sink I've
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: ever seen that. Okay that.
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: They called her Newt. I don't know why because it
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: doesn't sound threatening at all. Let's let's go to number three.
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: unit in the world is able to beat them. An
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: officer who has never seen combat is assigned to a
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: suicide mission, Pat Armageddon. That is incorrect, not about guess,
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: I'll keep going killed. Within moments, he finds himself thrown
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: into a time loop in which he relives the same
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: brutal and yes lived.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: I repeat or Edge of Tomorrow?
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: Was that the original Edge of Tomorrow is what I
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: was looking for. But one more sentence.
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: But it's good.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: You should probably get on them early, because today number
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: four eight, here we go. Three brothers have left their
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: gunslinger ways behind them to settle down and start a
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: business in a growing town.
- 1:44:17Speaker 6: Pat, I'll be your Huckleberry.
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: That is too bad. That yeah, be beautiful? Do it?
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: So?
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: Yeah, we've done True Lives, The Edge of Tomorrow, Tombstone.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: I got it. These are all Packston movies. They are
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: all movies that could make this harder easier.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 1:44:38Speaker 6: I don't know knowing that information, I don't know that's
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: gonna help me, that's gonna help me get well.
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: I'm not gonna count for me.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: Oh, I think you're gonna be fine. Let's do Number five.
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: A poor artist and a rich debutante fall in love
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: with each other while aboard an unsinkable ship.
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: However the trip takes you.
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: Got it. I tried to say it so fast? Where
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: are we after five bukes?
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: I have five one?
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: Everybody's in all right, We're all in it. Let's go
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: no shutout. Number six during the Approach. During the approach
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: of the most powerful storm in decades, a university professor
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: and an underfunded team of students prepare the prototype for
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: a groundbreaking Yes pat twister. Twister got a good one
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: tornado data gathering device called Dorothy Dorothy Dorothy? Yes, what
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: do you say, Dorothy Dorian? Oh? I always do that?
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: You do the Yeah, the Jimmy Stewart.
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: Yeah, speaking of Jimmy Stewart. I listen, I were just saying,
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: Tom Hanks is our Jimmy Stewart. Oh I love that,
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: like that, I love that, like that generation universally love
- 1:46:00Speaker 6: and he was a genuinely decent man and she brought that.
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: But I was like, I think you're right.
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: I think it's Mary, not Dorothy that I always say around, Oh.
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: Dorothy, Dorothy Mary there, Like you're you're correct, I'm incorrect.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: Number seven a couple of teen misfits designed their ideal
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: woman on a computer. A freak pat got it. Uh,
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: now I have weird science. Weird science. He got it
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: nicely done.
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: Due and Bill Paton's character in that movie is hilarious.
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: Or something.
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: Yeah, he's so awful but so funny.
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: Chat chat.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: All right, we'll do Number eight. I didn't know he
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: was in this, but Number eight, disguised as a human,
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: a cyborg assassin travels from twenty two to nineteen eighty
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: four to kill a woman sent to Protector as Kyle
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: Rees pat got it terminator.
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: That is correct.
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he's in the it's one of his first credits. Yeah, crap,
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: this is fun. That's getting so much more. I have
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: thought Pat has four so, oh my good. These next
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: two are not easy, correct, guys. Number nine, Los Angeles,
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: Denison Lewis Bloom survives by scavenging and petty theft. He
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: stumbles into a new career as a cameraman, and armed
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: with a camquarder and police scanner, begins nocturnal forays across
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: the city. Yes, Bukes, night Crawler, Night Crawlers. Correct, it's
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: a great movie, it is. I didn't remember him in it.
- 1:47:55Speaker 3: I don't remember that either. Is that Jake Jillen Hall guy?
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it's but it's so good.
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: Roby No, not Robby Mallock. It's the other guy who
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: I get confused with him? Who's the camera guy that
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: he gets He's a really good actor too.
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: It doesn't matter.
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: I can't remember it, is it? Yeah? Those two get
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: my brain. I get it, and they're both really they're
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: so good. Number ten This is a weird one. Years
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: ago Coconut Pete had a hit record, but now he
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: runs a tropical island resort where he spends his days
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: basking and hedonism with the rest of the resorts off
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: beat staff. The Paradise Coconut Pete presides over, however, becomes
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: a living hell when an unknown killer begins slaughtering the staff.
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: As the body count increases, so too does suspicion among
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: the survivors. Now it's up to Coconut Pete and what's
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: left of his staff to solve the mystery and stop
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: the bloodshed.
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: Ow I don't have any idea what this is, Coconut
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: ideas I would have got you. It was because I
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: hated this Okay, I don't know.
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: And a Conda that's a.
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: I don't know, not correct, Captain Jack, No absolute shot.
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: I thought of Catron too, but that's not it.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: It was the follow up after The Broken Lizard. Guys
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: did Super Troopers. They then did a movie called Club
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: Dread Oh, and I was all excited about. I went
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: to the theater and I was like this, Yes, wasn't it?
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: And those types of movies when they're when you're not
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: into them, are such a It was a.
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: There's no part of my brain that has any of
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: that movie, and it was no memory of that in
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: any cell of my brains.
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: Well you're better for it. But that was really close
- 1:49:58Speaker 3: close Winters to four.
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: Phil Jaxson thing helped me that helped get my Yeah, it.
- 1:50:04Speaker 3: Did not help me.
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: Do you know what one of his very first credits was,
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: And I should have put it in there, but it
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: was stripes. He was just a random really, just one
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: of the dudes, just a random guy. I don't even
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: think he was one of the main guys. I think
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: he's just kind of background.
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: Really, I did not know that. That's cool.
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: But Mugs is going to tell us how our top
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: five movies and space draft is going to go. Yeah,
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: but that's just for our patriots.

- 1:50:58Speaker 6: knows I love it, just you know how she tolerates
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: me talking about it.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: But this may be the first time in my life.
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: I'm glad we could make it happen.
