- 0:11Thank you, priest him for that powerful worship, and now we
- 0:15worship in the hearing of God's word.
- 0:17Meet me in first Samuel 22 please.
- 0:23As we conclude this chapter together.
- 0:32It never fails. That when I personally study the
- 0:38word, it's almost overwhelming of how much God can say and some
- 0:42obscure passages. And I hope you've learned that
- 0:44over the years that surely all of God's word is god-breathed.
- 0:49It is not wasted, it is not just historical data.
- 0:52It is God's voice that the man of God, may be complete and
- 0:58furnished and Polished unto righteousness and reflection of
- 1:02the person of Jesus Christ. And we come here in 1st Samuel,
- 1:0622. We are at verse 6 as we heard
- 1:10last week, the first five verses focused on David's point of view
- 1:17as a fugitive as an outcast it was completely dedicated to his
- 1:23experience in this in the scene. But now as we come to verse 6,
- 1:29there is a shift that's about to take place, but before we come
- 1:32to this shift, we've learned Just in five verses about how
- 1:38the righteous are a direct blessing from God.
- 1:42To his righteous that as they are surrounded and supported by
- 1:48those who fear, God, that is surely a gift from God.
- 1:52And if you have people that you can identify as those who love
- 1:55Christ, and are there for you and are praying for you, in our
- 1:58counseling, you know, that you have something of a gift from
- 2:04God himself. And we also saw David suffering
- 2:07personally in a very overwhelming fashion, but at the
- 2:09same time we learned that this man honored Duties in the midst
- 2:13of his difficulties and he exemplified that by taking care
- 2:18of his parents, when he was looking over his own shoulder
- 2:22because he could have been killed at any moment.
- 2:25And we also saw David graduate in his faith.
- 2:29The man was consumed with fear and chapter 21 and a very
- 2:33dishonorable way. But we see here in chapter 22
- 2:37that is repentance in those psalms proved, to be genuine
- 2:40because he is now showing Owing more trust in God.
- 2:45It's going to find it. So encouraging, that God can
- 2:48tell us that. David was a man after his own
- 2:51heart, even though David wasn't totally mature in his faith, God
- 2:56can declare that over somebody while they're learning while
- 2:59they're growing, while they're being stretched.
- 3:02Surely he's merciful. but what we've learned from David, Is
- 3:07sufficient in this chapter because now we come to learn
- 3:10from Saul and will still learn from David, but we're going to
- 3:13see mainly what the Holy Spirit has to say about not the prey
- 3:17but the Predator the unruly King named Saul.
- 3:24And if David graduated in his faith, in this chapter, we're
- 3:27going to see Saul intensify in his rage and his jealousy, and
- 3:34his Envy. See you and I are either growing
- 3:37in One Direction or the other. We either growing in Christ or a
- 3:40growing in the flesh. We're either maturing
- 3:43spiritually or we are maturing in our old man.
- 3:48There is no Center, there's no neutrality and unfortunately
- 3:51Saul is consumed with sin and it's going to show as we read
- 3:56here in verse 6. Now, Saul heard that David was
- 4:02discovered and the men who were with him saw was sitting at
- 4:07gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the height with his spear in
- 4:12his hand. And all his servants were
- 4:15standing about him and saw said, to his servants, who stood about
- 4:19him here. Now, people of Benjamin, will
- 4:23the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and Vineyards.
- 4:28Will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of
- 4:31hundreds that all of you have conspired against me?
- 4:35No one discloses to me when my son makes a covenant with the
- 4:39son of Jesse none of you is sorry for me or discloses to me
- 4:43that my Son has stirred up. My servant against me to lie in.
- 4:47Wait, As at this day. Will continue to read in a
- 4:53moment, but there's so much already here.
- 4:56We read. Now, as the scene turns over to
- 4:59Saul that Saul is now surrounded with his servants contrasting.
- 5:05David as we heard last week who was supported by four hundred
- 5:08men in a cave and it's in this verse that we read.
- 5:13The reason for this conference Saul calls his servants because
- 5:19he learned the whereabouts of David and he also learned surely
- 5:23the piercing news that 400 of his own have abandoned him and
- 5:28I've joined his enemy and indirectly are saying, we
- 5:32believe that David is King, not, you saw And this is clearly
- 5:38disturbing to the man. And so we read now Vision it and
- 5:42vision. It, he's sitting there
- 5:43underneath a tree. But he has something in his
- 5:47hand. What is it?
- 5:50A spear that should raise a flag because this is not the first
- 5:53time that we've seen this madman in such a position.
- 5:59You. And I have studied saw long
- 6:01enough to realize that whenever this person has a weapon in his
- 6:05hand, and he's in a bad mood, something is not going to be
- 6:09pleasant in a moment. This is disturbing.
- 6:13Because he is thrown that spear at David many times.
- 6:16He's even thrown a spear at his own son, and here he is.
- 6:21In the presence of his other servants.
- 6:24Clearly shaken and he has a spear in his hand.
- 6:30I think that we can read that and realize that saw was as a
- 6:33particular type of leader. He was a leader that rained and
- 6:36controlled with fear and intimidation He bullied people
- 6:41he caused him to have an unhealthy sense of reverence
- 6:44towards him so that he can get them to do what he wanted them
- 6:48to do. And that is a leadership that
- 6:51will never be honored by men and will not have longevity as
- 6:54you're going to find out about Saul.
- 6:58But this verse already teaches us something.
- 7:00The first verse verse 6, already teaches us something.
- 7:03So wonderful about God as it connects to our concluding
- 7:07thought from last week. Last week, we concluded with the
- 7:11observation that as David is hiding in a stronghold.
- 7:14God sends a prophet named God. And this man, God tells David
- 7:20get up and go and not just continue to flee, but I'm
- 7:23telling you to go into the territory of Judah.
- 7:27Now, why? Is that a concerning command?
- 7:30Does anybody remember Saul is governing that land.
- 7:38So God is asking Saul rather David to come into a territory
- 7:42where he's more vulnerable to solve spies and to Saul himself.
- 7:47It seems like a contradiction, it doesn't seem reasonable.
- 7:51But when you come to verse 6, we now see by the holy spirit's
- 7:56commentary, why it is that God sent God to David and told him
- 8:00to get up and go. Why is it Because Saul, what?
- 8:06He discovered where he was saw, learned the location of David
- 8:12and these men and God seen what saw learn speaks to his prophet
- 8:18and the Prophet. This messenger comes and tells
- 8:21David get up and go in a certain direction.
- 8:25And here's the wonderful thing David obeyed, even though he
- 8:29didn't have all the answers because he knew that God had the
- 8:31answer. It's as simple as that.
- 8:35You read verse six. And you and I are supposed to
- 8:38understand that, we as the people of God, do not need all
- 8:43of the answers to his leadership in our lives.
- 8:48If you and I think that we inherit a supernatural peace,
- 8:52because we have this unlimited access to every answer to every
- 8:57step in our lives. We are setting ourselves up for
- 9:00disappointment, the piece and the trust that you.
- 9:03And I have as God navigates and leads and Shepherd us through
- 9:06life, is not the fact that we have every answer before it
- 9:09comes. It comes by the truth of his
- 9:13character. It comes in a knowledge of who
- 9:17he is and based on the knowledge of who he is, regardless of how
- 9:22he leads us. If you are rightly walking with
- 9:25him, you can trust his Direction.
- 9:30So why be flustered with with delays in life?
- 9:35And why be consumed with anxiety.
- 9:38When you are now being directed to a destination that you didn't
- 9:42plan for in your life when you and I are supposed to just trust
- 9:47him and trust that he has the answers, and if it's in his
- 9:50wisdom to reveal that answer in this lifetime or not, it's not
- 9:54up to us. It's not up to us.
- 9:58There are many times as we're going to see that, God tells
- 10:01David specifically why he's about to do something.
- 10:05And there are other times, like, what we just see here, where he
- 10:08doesn't And we just got to trust that when God keeps us in the
- 10:12dark, it is more profitable for us than if he had given us every
- 10:17answer. And David shows that as you
- 10:23departed and went toward Judah and it's you, and I who have the
- 10:27opportunity to read, verse 6, & Co look at the wisdom of God.
- 10:32David didn't understand and God didn't find the need to explain.
- 10:36And you and I have the word of God that must be applied in so
- 10:40many situations that might be unique.
- 10:42But at the same time, though they may not make sense in a
- 10:44moment. God is calling us to trust his
- 10:48wisdom and not our own ideas. And when Providence leads us in
- 10:52a certain way, that might cause turbulence to our comfort or to
- 10:58our plans and our desires, what will we do?
- 11:02We must trust trust and Obey for.
- 11:05There's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey,
- 11:09David does this? because David had a revelation
- 11:13I'm sure that you and I must have on a basic level and it's
- 11:16this that no matter how God orchestrates, our life, he has
- 11:20his glory primarily in mind And the good of his people that
- 11:26every season of life, even if you're Afflicted, God is doing
- 11:30many things, he is providing for us, he is protecting us and
- 11:33surely his polishing us. To reflect the image of his son,
- 11:37which is his Ultimate Will for your life, no matter what kind
- 11:40of 925 you have. No matter what kind of spouse
- 11:43you have, if you're in Christ, you're predestined to Christ
- 11:48likeness in this life. And so we read that in verse 6.
- 11:52So encouraging, but much more to learn.
- 11:56And verse 7, we see something else.
- 11:59Saul said to his servants who stood about him here?
- 12:02Now people have Benjamin, will the son of Jesse give everyone
- 12:04of you fields and Vineyards and he goes on Bible study questions
- 12:08examinations do you have your Bibles tonight?
- 12:10I hope so. Look at your Bibles and verse 7.
- 12:13And would you share what stands out to you with the details of
- 12:16Paul a rather Saul's conversation with these men?
- 12:20What stands out to you? What are some details?
- 12:22That should be highlighted. Causing the son of Jesse.
- 12:33That's one that's really good. Yes.
- 12:35Again he refers to him as a son of Jesse.
- 12:37There's something even before that though.
- 12:40Yes, the people of Benjamin are those who are surrounding him,
- 12:44there's 11 tribes missing, but why is this interesting where
- 12:48was Saul from that same tribe. And so saw as being very
- 12:53political here, this is tribalism.
- 12:57This is Saul trying to win the support of those who share his
- 13:02lineage, because he thinks it will be more likely remember the
- 13:05whole nation, adored David. And so he's playing.
- 13:07He's playing tricks here by wooing.
- 13:10Those from his own race, though, it's the same race.
- 13:12His own tribe better word winning those, from those who
- 13:17share his same background and he's trying to convince him to
- 13:20be on his side. It's a sad, reminder of how many
- 13:24people will pledge allegiance to family to culture.
- 13:30To nationality to safety to opportunity over that, which is
- 13:34right. And that's not just things that
- 13:37happen in the world. That happens within Christendom
- 13:41that, you have people who will Elevate these things over that,
- 13:45which is true, and holy, And saw is that kind of, man.
- 13:51But secondly, we see, as our sister said that he is further
- 13:55proving his political manipulation by referring to
- 13:59David in a certain way. We heard this before, but this
- 14:03man calls him, the son of Jesse, he would not dare attribute, any
- 14:07kind of success to David or anything of his faithful
- 14:11character? What he's trying to do is
- 14:13highlight the lowliest part of who he is. in the presence of
- 14:19these men that he's trying to woo and convince Proving to us
- 14:24that this men's jealousy is still at a feverish pitch, this
- 14:28man is consumed. This man can't even mention his
- 14:31name because bitterness and envy and unforgiveness can reach such
- 14:36a height in the soul. That even the mere mention of
- 14:40someone's name, whether they've offended us or they are the
- 14:42object of our Envy can surge when that us all these evil
- 14:47emotions. The guys, so sensitive, he's so
- 14:53Infected with this sin that he can't even say David.
- 14:58So, he calls him, the son of Jesse, and it's a reminder of
- 15:01how jealousy can manifest itself jealousy, when it reaches a
- 15:05certain point can be so ferocious, and so ugly that it
- 15:11attempts to belittle and humiliate the person that we
- 15:15might have these things towards so that we can, at least plant
- 15:19the seed of Suspicion and their hearts.
- 15:22And that's what he's trying to do.
- 15:24Now let's examine his speech, Let's examine examine what he's
- 15:27trying to say to these people. He realizes that 400 of his men
- 15:32just left, right? And he doesn't want that to
- 15:34continue to happen. He's now feeling what he is
- 15:37feared that people will join David and David will become
- 15:42king. Nevermind, God said that it
- 15:43would happen. He will even fight against God.
- 15:46And so what he's trying to do here is discredit David To these
- 15:52men. And the summary of the verses
- 15:55that we read is simply this, who is the son of Jesse?
- 15:59What can he actually offer you? For you to even consider joining
- 16:04him. What, what does he have?
- 16:08What, look at him hiding in a cave.
- 16:12Is this someone that you really want to to join and to link arms
- 16:18with it's pathetic. It's so sad, it's so low.
- 16:22But this is a carnal man that uses carnal means to persuade
- 16:25people. And so he's doing it here and
- 16:28you heard it last week that the enemy of souls uses, very
- 16:33similar Persuasions when there are people who are standing Are
- 16:38standing at the gap between the decision of joining, the kingdom
- 16:41of God, or choosing to stay with the kingdom of darkness.
- 16:47And people here all the time. Who is Jesus Christ?
- 16:53What does this Jesus actually have to offer you in this life?
- 16:56What is a life surrender to this Messiah actually benefit for you
- 17:01in this life? Are you sure that you want to
- 17:06put your promotion in life at risk?
- 17:11Because you'll be recognized as a bible-believing, Christian in
- 17:14this kind of society, are you sure you really, would?
- 17:16You really want to make that public?
- 17:19What kind of possessions can you really claim as your own?
- 17:22What kind of things can you grow in?
- 17:24If you are going to now pledge yourself to a sacrificial life
- 17:29for Jesus Christ, you really want to do that.
- 17:32And here's the point, I read this and I thought to myself, if
- 17:34there's anyone who should question the incentives of
- 17:38anybody else, it's the child of God when he is tempted with
- 17:42worldliness. Can I show you one of my
- 17:45personal favorite verses concerning sin?
- 17:51Yes, Jesus Christ died for sin. That's wonderful.
- 17:54That is the nothing can triumph over that, but I want to show
- 17:58you a practical verse a practical verse that will
- 18:03transform the way you face Temptation.
- 18:05If you just apply it by faith, it's found in the book of
- 18:08Romans, it's in chapter 6, and it's in verse 21.
- 18:13Look how Paul calls the Christians to put sin into
- 18:18question to put their old life into question.
- 18:28But, what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of
- 18:32which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is
- 18:36death. I love that.
- 18:39I love that. Is it a Roman Christians?
- 18:43Just pause for a moment and think about your former life and
- 18:49asked, what benefit, what fruit was I really getting from me
- 18:55pursuing, the desires of My Flesh to me submitting to every
- 19:00impulse of my body and my thoughts are my fantasies.
- 19:04What actually came out of that? And if you really think long and
- 19:10hard, if you actually discipline yourself because what Temptation
- 19:14does is it presents to you? The Sensation that satisfies and
- 19:19the Bible is very honest. The Bible doesn't lie to us and
- 19:22say sin doesn't feel good. Or else, where's the power and
- 19:26Temptation? Scripture tells us in Hebrews
- 19:29that sin has pleasure, but it's fleeting pleasure, so examine
- 19:36your life. Now, this will be extremely
- 19:38difficult if you've never been truly converted, If you've never
- 19:43tasted the goodness of Jesus Christ, if you've never, if
- 19:46you've never known what it's like to experientially, be
- 19:49satisfied in your salvation. You know why?
- 19:51Because you have nothing to compare it to, you have nothing
- 19:54to compare your sin, which which is the Ecstasy of those who are
- 19:59outside of Christ, you have nothing to say.
- 20:02This is the contrast But if you're in Christ, this verse
- 20:06gives you license to say, where was I before this?
- 20:11What I'm houses even a persuasion, how is this, even a
- 20:13suggestion? Okay, so you live out in your
- 20:16flesh, do you remember the shame?
- 20:18The remember the guilt. Do you remember the regret?
- 20:20The remember, the hollowness. Do you remember laying at night
- 20:23wondering, why you even exist? What's your purpose in life?
- 20:26You remember that kind of Torment.
- 20:29Think Beyond The Mirage of the Oasis of sin and realized that
- 20:34you were actually eating sand before you came to the living
- 20:37water in Christ. And so if there's anybody that's
- 20:41going to question anything, if there's anybody that's going to
- 20:43say, what is, what is what have to offer?
- 20:45It's the believer, when Satan and the flesh.
- 20:48Say Hey you really want to move forward, you have nothing to
- 20:51offer me. I've been there done that.
- 20:55Got the t-shirt and in Christ clothed me with his
- 20:58righteousness, I'm done. I'm done.
- 21:03And I believe the reason why you have people within the church
- 21:06that are so defeated by sin at least in part is because they
- 21:09have not tasted that. The Lord is good, they've not
- 21:12seen that the Lord is good. They got some emotional thing
- 21:15that happened at one point in their lives.
- 21:17What you're going to hear this Sunday by the way?
- 21:20And they weren't really born again.
- 21:23And so they just they live in this defeated Christian Life and
- 21:28and partly many of the cases because they haven't come from
- 21:32Death to life to even begin with.
- 21:35But for the converted, for those who have truly been born again,
- 21:37they can say compared to this. I'm not going back to that so we
- 21:45come back to the first Samuel 22 now.
- 21:47Look at verse 8. This is amazing. like, if you
- 21:51are frustrated with Saul up to now, get ready for another level
- 21:55of frustration, Look what he says that all of you have
- 21:59conspired against me. No one discloses it to me.
- 22:03When my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse.
- 22:05None of you sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has
- 22:08stirred up. My servant against me to lie in,
- 22:11wait, as is this day? So this is what Sol is doing.
- 22:14He moves to win his affections from the place of false promises
- 22:19because as he's criticizing David, he's implying I have
- 22:22these things to offer you He goes from false promises to
- 22:26self-pity. I'm sure we are all convinced
- 22:33about saw that. He is a person who is completely
- 22:36consumed with selfish ambition. Like Everett ever since near his
- 22:42introduction, this man has proven to be totally motivated
- 22:46by self. And it's in this verse that some
- 22:50of the properties of a selfish attitude show themselves if you
- 22:56want to see how a selfish or self-centered person.
- 23:01Can climax in their attitude towards others.
- 23:03Here are some ingredients first. They manipulate the emotions of
- 23:08others to get what they want. And so another way of putting it
- 23:13is that they Heap guilt on those who are not in wrong in order to
- 23:20steer them to satisfy. Usually sinful means in simple
- 23:25goals and that's what he's doing here.
- 23:27He's not righteously rebuking these men.
- 23:29He has now taken his imagination and placed it on them and he's
- 23:34saying you guys are all conspiring against me.
- 23:37You guys are all playing against me.
- 23:38That's what's really going on here.
- 23:40These are baseless claims, they makes no sense whatsoever.
- 23:46He's saying that you've concealed, what Jesse and the
- 23:48son of Jesse and my son are doing.
- 23:50You've concealed the plan that they're trying to kill me.
- 23:54The guy's lying. The guy's lying and that it
- 23:58should be no surprise he's lied before but it can also mean that
- 24:02his jealousy became so obsessive that.
- 24:05He's now hallucinating. He's now reading into things
- 24:09that don't exist. He's now coming up with ideas
- 24:13that are not real. And that's what selfish is can
- 24:16do in a person, they begin to now.
- 24:19Try to put strings on people and make them puppets in order to
- 24:22satisfy their selfish goals and sometimes that selfish girl can
- 24:27simply be for praise for recognition for affection, but a
- 24:34second trait of a person who is dominated by selfishness not
- 24:38selflessness. Selfishness is that they have
- 24:41this wonderful ability? They have the art Of coming off
- 24:47as the victim and everything. Even when the mess that they're
- 24:51in was caused by them, none of you is sorry for me, are you
- 24:57serious? Have you lost it?
- 25:01After all the trouble that you've caused in the Kingdom up
- 25:03to this point. After all, the trouble, you've
- 25:04caused in the family, after all the trouble, you caused for your
- 25:06son, for your most faithful servant you were still able to
- 25:10make this about you. And this individual here is
- 25:15exemplifying to us that a selfish person can barely admit
- 25:20that they are ever wrong. No way.
- 25:25Because in their mind, this is what they think.
- 25:28If I admit that, I'm wrong. Then I forfeit my right to
- 25:33demand. If I, if I confess that I've
- 25:38done something that might have been off, then I discredit
- 25:41myself from having the authority.
- 25:46To make baseless and shameful request.
- 25:51This is pride and in their pride, like saw as long as they
- 25:55are in the right or believe that they're in the right or convince
- 25:57others that they are in the right.
- 25:59They maintain the prerogative to make claims on others or to
- 26:04behave in a certain way. That's why I'm very careful
- 26:08though. People have gone through
- 26:10traumatic past. I'm very careful.
- 26:14And you should be as well because there are people who can
- 26:16use their past trauma as an excuse to be a certain way.
- 26:21If you're a Christian filled with the Holy Spirit, if you're
- 26:25a Christian has been born again. Yeah, you might have had some
- 26:27past experience but Christ in you dominates the flesh.
- 26:32And so there are people that know how to say it, right?
- 26:36And two. Point at everything and
- 26:39everybody else. That's what modern you've heard
- 26:41me say before. And I'm telling you for a reason
- 26:42over and over again. Modern counseling especially out
- 26:47there in the world that doesn't use the scriptures to counsel
- 26:50the issue with modern counseling and modern psychology is that
- 26:54they will blame everything. But the person who is receiving
- 26:57help, it's everybody else's fault except the person who's
- 27:01wounded and whatever patterns are habits that have been
- 27:04adopted, that might be self-destructive or destructive
- 27:07as it has to be the way you grew up.
- 27:09It has to be your parents. It has to be this and can it
- 27:12contribute sure. But if we're Christians Christ
- 27:17has the power to overcome all wounds and to lead you into,
- 27:22he'll you. It might not be instantaneous
- 27:24though, it could be but we cannot stop at.
- 27:27Well, that's just the way they are because that's what they
- 27:29experienced in the past. Where is the gospel?
- 27:32Where's the power? The healing power of Jesus
- 27:34Christ. What I'm afraid of is that if we
- 27:38introduce too much counseling within the church, we can strip
- 27:43the supernatural from the gospel.
- 27:46And we make everything about this and that and nurture versus
- 27:50nature. No, no, do not forget that.
- 27:53We have a supernatural God. Who can Doom wonderful things in
- 27:58people's lives. Is he practical?
- 28:00Yes. Is their wisdom?
- 28:02Sure. Is there things that we have to
- 28:04give instruction for it? Yes.
- 28:05Do we have to talk through things up from the past?
- 28:07Absolutely but the solution comes down to the spirit.
- 28:13You might disagree with me. But just go to the book and see
- 28:17for yourself. So this is what this man is
- 28:20doing. He's, it's so childish and after
- 28:23his childish Spiel, The Silence of the crowd is all for sudden
- 28:29broken because somebody speaks up.
- 28:33And that man is found in verse 9.
- 28:35Look in your Bibles, with me then.
- 28:37Answer doeg the Edomite who stood by the Servants of Saul.
- 28:43I saw the son of Jesse coming to Knob to Hema, like the son of a
- 28:48table and he inquired of the Lord for him and gave him
- 28:52provisions and gave him the sword of Goliath.
- 28:54The Philistine. Oh, This is the first time that
- 28:59we've seen doeg in our Bibles know, we have.
- 29:02We seen it before. 21:7. Now look what it says in chapter
- 29:0821 verse 7. This is when David went to the
- 29:12Tabernacle. He went to the priest and he
- 29:15says here, now, a certain man of the Servants of Saul was there
- 29:17that day detained before the Lord, his name was doe, eyed the
- 29:21eat of my, the chief of Saul's herdsman.
- 29:26Now I'm going to ask you, what are some things that should be
- 29:29noted from this verse? What are some details?
- 29:34About doeg. Detained before the Lord.
- 29:40Now we don't know why he was detained before the Lord.
- 29:43There are some different speculations.
- 29:44It's not told. And really the reason given is
- 29:48not important. If there was a reason, it would
- 29:51be there but it could be that he was, he was ceremonially unclean
- 29:57and he was going through a purification process.
- 29:59Some say that he was being converted to the Jewish faith.
- 30:02So he was going through a process and not as well.
- 30:04We don't know, but he was detained.
- 30:06All we do know is He was in proximity of God's house being
- 30:10ministered to by God's priests, which is more important than the
- 30:14reason. Good observation any other
- 30:17observation. Edomite.
- 30:21Not an Israelite Edomite. Who are the edomites?
- 30:26Esau, brother of who Jacob, Jacob assu Israel, very good.
- 30:33So Esau who is also known as Edom.
- 30:36The edomites are descendants of Esau question where they
- 30:40friendly towards the Israelites. Were they were they favorable
- 30:46towards them with a gracious towards them or is their
- 30:49hostility and animosity? Yes, absolutely.
- 30:54So generally speaking, anybody from Edom had a certain kind of
- 31:00feeling and mindset toward the chosen people of God.
- 31:05So the fact that we're told that dog was an Edomite.
- 31:08Should raise a flag, it should raise a flag.
- 31:12What else concerning do? Egg?
- 31:19Very good. He was the chief of Saul's
- 31:22herdsman. That is not a lowly position,
- 31:24that's a manager position. That's a position of authority.
- 31:29That is something that's all. Allowed him to operate in.
- 31:35Which shows us not just a concern.
- 31:38Concerning do egg. But a concern towards Saul's
- 31:42deficient character. What do I mean by that?
- 31:46How is Saul able to have within his inner circle?
- 31:50Someone who comes from a people who do not honor, God and do not
- 31:56honor the people of God. How's that possible?
- 32:01And if you're not convinced that dog has that disposition, you're
- 32:04going to see it very, very soon. You want to know the simple
- 32:09answer? Because Saul himself was someone
- 32:12who did not honor, God and did not honor Those whom God has
- 32:16chosen. And so saw easily could have
- 32:22fellowship with somebody who is from Edom, because Saul share
- 32:26the same values. The same attitudes, And the
- 32:31absence of the things that would make somebody righteous are in
- 32:35Saul and therefore he can easily commune with somebody like doeg,
- 32:39you know what I find? So disturbing.
- 32:43Isn't it strange that Saul was able to attack David?
- 32:46Who is a true worshiper of God? But at the same time he was able
- 32:50to maintain a relationship with do a who is an enemy of God.
- 32:58Really. I have to tell you this and I've
- 32:59said it and many different instances before but I'll say it
- 33:02again who you fellowship with him with who you have
- 33:06relationships with reveals where you stand with God to a certain
- 33:09degree they're just no ifs and ands about.
- 33:12If you fellowship with a certain type of people that reveals
- 33:15something about you, the psalmist said in the first song
- 33:18that he does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.
- 33:22And he does not stand among the scoffers.
- 33:24Does not sit with sinners. I don't walk with them, I don't
- 33:29stand with them, I don't sit with them.
- 33:31That's the first thing you read from the book of Psalms.
- 33:35So the whole book which is about worship, it starts out with.
- 33:38I want to tell you who I don't fellowship with and that's
- 33:42fascinating. And notice as we come back here
- 33:47that do I Echoes Saul in the way that he refers to David.
- 33:53What does he say? In verse 9, I saw who the son of
- 33:57Jesse Hey, David rather saw how you feel about David.
- 34:02I feel about David. I saw the son of Jesse and what
- 34:07he tells them is, I was there that day where I saw him come to
- 34:12the Tabernacle and the priest helped him the priest.
- 34:16Help David. Now here's a question and you
- 34:19can answer it. If you have, if you feel like
- 34:21you have the answer, why is, do I doing this?
- 34:24Why, why is he stepping up? And why is he calling saw to the
- 34:29attention of the Betrayal of David and the priest?
- 34:33I am a lake. Any idea.
- 34:37To make it worse. But and that's true.
- 34:39But why, why is he trying to make it worse?
- 34:43What does that have to do with him?
- 34:49Okay, so promotion in mind, that's one reason.
- 34:53So just finished saying, can he give you Vineyards?
- 34:56And can he make you commanders and dogs going?
- 35:02so, Let me tell you where David and what David did actually, let
- 35:08me tell you who is conspiring with David.
- 35:13Because clearly he is persuaded by some kind of indirect promise
- 35:18from Saul. And this is, this is doeg
- 35:21proving that this man cared so much about his comfort and his
- 35:25safety and his Prosperity that he was willing to throw anybody
- 35:30under the bus. In order to arrive there, he was
- 35:33willing to step on anything even the truth itself in order for
- 35:37him to advance in this life and it's a sad sight, indeed.
- 35:41That's one reason any Reason. Very good point.
- 36:06Could it? Be that what he had learned all
- 36:08his life as an Edomite? Of how that inheritance was
- 36:12taken from Jacob, from Esau, from Jake by Jacob and all these
- 36:16things, all these deep-rooted thoughts and hatred are.
- 36:19Now, here's my chance to bring division within Israel.
- 36:22Absolutely. That could be one reason as
- 36:23well, which is scary. But it's possible any other
- 36:28reasons. Why is do I doing this?
- 36:38Why is he stepping up? And why is he pointing Saul's
- 36:41attention towards a? He melek?
- 36:43And Alive a conspiracy. Well, let me let me help you
- 36:48remember what it's all doing at this point.
- 36:50He's sitting and what does he have in his hand?
- 36:53Okay. so at any moment, I'm sure do.
- 36:59I felt it in his bones and sold the other men at any moment
- 37:01that's pure can go flying at any moment.
- 37:05As he's just finished accusing these men of conspiring against
- 37:09him. Things can become very, very
- 37:12dangerous. So this is not just about
- 37:13promotions about preservation. This is what a man saying I want
- 37:18to avoid my life being lost and I want to now turn any
- 37:24conspiracy away from us to the Ministers of God.
- 37:29And so he's diverting Saul's anger and his blind jealousy and
- 37:34his Insanity in a completely different direction.
- 37:38Hey Saul look over there and not only is he going to preserve
- 37:42himself, but he's also potentially going to be promoted
- 37:45out of this. All in all it's really a sad
- 37:48side of a person who is motivated by self and how
- 37:52they're willing to do harm to others, even those who Minister
- 37:55and serve God as the priest did. And this is sad.
- 38:01This is sad. Concerning the character of
- 38:02Dwight, but you know what's amazing?
- 38:04David wasn't surprised when he heard about it.
- 38:07David was not surprised one bit when he heard about it.
- 38:10How do you know go down to verse 22 at the author.
- 38:13One of the priests escapes. And told tells David and David
- 38:18said, the Abbe, Arthur I knew on that day.
- 38:21When doeg the Edomite was there? That he would surely tell Saul?
- 38:25I have occasion to death of all the persons of your father's
- 38:28house. What a statement So when David
- 38:32came in chapter 21 to the priest and in his peripheral, he sees,
- 38:36dog, they're detained. I don't know how he looked his
- 38:37somewhere. They're detained.
- 38:39He goes on. This guy's going to cause
- 38:41trouble. He knew it.
- 38:43Here's our question. How did he know it?
- 38:45Anybody have an idea of how he knew it.
- 38:51Uh-huh. Very good point David.
- 38:53Before he was a fugitive was top-ranked in the palace.
- 38:58Even in the early stages, he was the worshipper that was
- 39:01counseling Saul. He was the armour-bearer of
- 39:05Saul. So he was not only familiar with
- 39:07the courts, he was familiar with the employees with the people
- 39:10and so surely he came into contact with.
- 39:12Do I got some point but David was Discerning enough to know
- 39:17something about doeg, then that would lead to this before.
- 39:20There is any personal attack against David, David studied
- 39:24dog. Enough to know, I'm not
- 39:26surprised. I'm not surprised.
- 39:30Isn't it sad? That someone's evil can be
- 39:33predicted because of a present lack of the fear of God.
- 39:38Isn't it a sad thing that somebody can be.
- 39:40So, so void of spirituality? That in their language and their
- 39:49in the way they do things that they're predictable.
- 39:53In the evil that they can do. That was doeg.
- 40:00He was a Godless man, an Unholy man and David when he heard
- 40:04about it, long enough, after even a period of time, studying
- 40:08him long enough rather said, I'm not surprised that dog did this.
- 40:13So notice what do I tell? Saul and verse 10?
- 40:18He inquired of the Lord foreman gave him provisions and gave him
- 40:21the sword of Goliath. The Philistine.
- 40:23What's problematic about this report in verse 10.
- 40:29What's problematic here? What's that?
- 40:36Glides, sure, but even before that, there's three charges
- 40:39here. What's concerning about these
- 40:41charges? It has to do with one of them.
- 40:48Yes, very good. He tells Saul that the priest
- 40:53sought God on his behalf. We learned that that was in the
- 40:56case. We saw in chapter 21 that when
- 40:59David comes to the priest, he does everything.
- 41:02But inquire of God, In fact, when he had the chance to he
- 41:07instead put his trust in Goliath's sword and runs off and
- 41:11we saw the fruit of a man who did not stop and ask God for
- 41:15guidance and Direction. So doeg lies.
- 41:23Doh, egg is not observing something that actually occurred
- 41:26and if there's any doubt within us that do, I might be telling
- 41:30the truth and he's adding more light to the story.
- 41:32All you have to do is go to a portion of scripture where David
- 41:36dedicates an entire Psalm to do egg.
- 41:39Did you know that there's an entire Psalm dedicated to do
- 41:43egg? Would you like to know where it
- 41:44is? Go to Psalm 52 And it's in this
- 41:50scripture that you will see that.
- 41:52Do I in fact was lying. Was lying.
- 41:58Psalm 50 to look at verse 12, the choirmaster mass scale of
- 42:03David. When doeg the Edomite came and
- 42:07told saw David as come to the house of I'm Alec.
- 42:10So this Psalm, can you imagine a worship song?
- 42:14Written in light of somebody's betrayal and their deception.
- 42:18And look at the first four, verses why do you boast of evil
- 42:22Almighty, man? The steadfast love of God
- 42:25indoors all the day. Your tongue plots destruction.
- 42:30Like a sharp razor you worker of Deceit.
- 42:36You love evil more than good and lying more than speaking what is
- 42:40right? Say la.
- 42:41You love all words that devour old deceitful tongue?
- 42:47So, there's no truth. And what he's saying to solve,
- 42:52but is there. Is there truth in what he said
- 42:56to Saul? Yeah, two-thirds of the charges
- 43:02were legitimate. But you see the song doesn't say
- 43:08that dog was a liar. Remember what I said earlier?
- 43:12Do you want to protect yourself from much harm in this life?
- 43:15I would I would highly recommend paying attention right now.
- 43:20It doesn't say that dog was a liar.
- 43:23What did he say? He was a what a deceiver?
- 43:26That's different. The severs are much more crafty.
- 43:31They're much more much more tricky.
- 43:36And dog was a master of deception.
- 43:40And what was the deception? That one third of his charge was
- 43:45a lie whereas two-thirds of it was actually right.
- 43:53I want you to realize how deception works because we live
- 43:58this life with someone who is a Great Deceiver. and if you can
- 44:04find someone or some people to deceive, that is one of his main
- 44:08tools to Bringing pain in your life and praying in the body of
- 44:13Christ, I want you and I to grow in our discernment.
- 44:21And here's how you and I can grow in our discernment and to
- 44:24be shielded to protect your heart and to protect you from
- 44:27doing damage to other people's lives of understanding how
- 44:32deceivers operate here. It is do I didn't completely
- 44:36lie. But his lie was blended with
- 44:40truth because when a targeted audience is presented with
- 44:45something that can be agreed upon as valid that disarms them.
- 44:51that disarms them and a once they have let their guard down
- 44:55then Ally can slip in and also be digested.
- 45:02Do I hear reflects the character of Satan?
- 45:06Because Satan doesn't just go around in this world lying to
- 45:10people about the word of God. Satan goes around lying to
- 45:13people with the word of God. There's a difference.
- 45:18There are some that he's convincing to not even entertain
- 45:20believing that this is truth and there are others who believe
- 45:23that this is to be true. And so he will use the truth.
- 45:28With a pill of the LIE. And he'll let you swallow,
- 45:32whatever is true while also indulging in poison.
- 45:38And those who do the devil's work, those who are deceivers,
- 45:43they will come to present a lie, but they know, they know that
- 45:47will be more effective. Is that if they can believe, if
- 45:50they can win your trust, if they can win your agreement upon
- 45:54something, so that when you come and receive the LIE, there will
- 45:58be less suspicion about it. We need the holy spirit of God.
- 46:07I am astounded by the lack of the sermon with people.
- 46:10It's, it's dumbfounding actually.
- 46:16When you have the scriptures, you have prayer, you have Godly
- 46:19men and women in your life and you have the Holy Spirit living
- 46:21inside of you. We should be a people who are
- 46:25shielded from deception the most. an unfortunate that is not
- 46:29the case because Many a fall in the Trap that do a presents
- 46:34year. Some truth enough to convince
- 46:41you of a lie that is slipped in there and that lie is powerful
- 46:46enough to bring so much destruction as we're going to
- 46:48see in a moment. So look at here in verse 12,
- 46:53rather verse 11, then the king sent to summon.
- 46:56He met like the priest, the son of a, hey, tub and all his
- 46:59father's house, the priests who were at knob and all of them
- 47:02came to the king. And saw said here, now, son of a
- 47:07hijab and he answered Here, I Am My Lord like your heart breaks.
- 47:10This guy has no idea what he's walking into.
- 47:13He is pure and heart. Remember, David did not disclose
- 47:17why, he was really running away. So he just thinks he's being
- 47:19called in for some, maybe he's going to be summoned to
- 47:21something here, I am my Lord. And Saul said to him, why have
- 47:28you conspired against me? You and the son of Jesse and
- 47:31that you have given him bread and a sword and have inquired of
- 47:34God for him, so that he has risen against me to lie in wait
- 47:38as that this day. So you had hope that when saw
- 47:43called the priest to come, that he was going to exercise in some
- 47:46kind of wisdom and do some examination and some
- 47:50investigation before laying any kind of charge, but he just goes
- 47:53right for the jugular, why have you not is this true but why
- 47:58have you and really we don't have time to get into the priest
- 48:03answer to this, but all you need to know is that no matter how he
- 48:07answered, which is quite fascinating, because he defends
- 48:10David, And then he defends himself, but none of that
- 48:14mattered because Saul was out for blood and that thirst was
- 48:18going to be quenched, no matter what.
- 48:21And so, he makes the charge after the priest declares his
- 48:25innocence. In verse 16 and the King said,
- 48:30You shall surely die. Hey Malik, you and all your
- 48:34father's house. And the King said to the guard
- 48:38who stood about him turn and killed the priests of the Lord,
- 48:42because their hand also is with David and they knew that he fled
- 48:45and did not disclose it to me. This is like obsessive language.
- 48:49Like, he keeps repeating himself.
- 48:52Kill him. Imagine here's the high priest
- 48:57with 84 others and he looks at his servants, the service that
- 49:01have been quiet this whole time and he goes kill them now, get
- 49:05rid of them. What's going to happen?
- 49:10And it says here, but the Servants of the king would not
- 49:13put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord.
- 49:17I love that. Like how embarrassing for this
- 49:22King? Here's a man who's supposed to
- 49:26have authority and win the respect of those who claim to
- 49:29serve him and he can't even get him to do this one thing.
- 49:32But it's because the servants have something that he doesn't
- 49:34have. And that's the fear of God.
- 49:37These servants, though, they are servants, though.
- 49:40In society, they are lesser than the king.
- 49:43They are higher because they have something that the king
- 49:45lacks and that's wisdom. Would you rather be a king?
- 49:50Who lacks sense? Or would you rather be a servant
- 49:52who possesses knowledge? There's an amazing verse that
- 49:57touched my life that inspired my life.
- 49:59Among many verses I want to read it to you.
- 50:01In fact, I would highlight it in my Bible.
- 50:04If you do that with your Bible, it's in the book of Ecclesiastes
- 50:07that wonderful book of wisdom and it's in 4:13.
- 50:11It's an observation that Solomon makes and he says, this better
- 50:15is a poor and wise child than an old and foolish King.
- 50:22Who will no more be admonished another transition, say who will
- 50:26no longer take advice? You want to know if somebody
- 50:28lacks wisdom? You want to know if you lack
- 50:31wisdom? Here's one evidence of it.
- 50:34You don't ask people for advice. That's what the Bible says.
- 50:39A person who refuses to be admonished to be corrected to
- 50:43receive some kind of consultation that person.
- 50:46According to this verse lacks wisdom or is moved away from the
- 50:51way of wisdom. You know what I see in this
- 50:54verse that it's possible to be a child and to possess wisdom
- 50:58wisdom is not limited to. The Aged wisdom is not only
- 51:02acquired by experience. You can be a young person and be
- 51:07wiser than a seasoned person. And it says, in fact, you're
- 51:13better to be poor, you're better to be young, you're better to be
- 51:19a servant. With wisdom than a king who
- 51:23doesn't know how to take advice. So I look at these men and I
- 51:30admire them even though they don't have a throne to their
- 51:33name, there's something better and you and I will do really
- 51:39really, really well in life for the glory of God, if we put more
- 51:45energy in seeking wisdom that in seeking status wealth or power.
- 51:52because the Bible tells you, so, and when it comes to situations
- 51:57like this, that's when we see the benefit of wisdom, they
- 52:00would not dare to do it. They were willing to die
- 52:02themselves. I'm sure.
- 52:04So what is saw do? Well, there is one who is
- 52:06already proven that he is like him.
- 52:07So, in verse 18, the king said to do, I turn you turn and
- 52:11strike the priest and doeg the Edomite turn and struck down the
- 52:15priest, and he killed on that day. 85 persons who wore the
- 52:19linen, ephod, 85 priest, man, And you know what, some 52 tells
- 52:28us. It doesn't tell us that the
- 52:31sharpness of his sword brought about destruction.
- 52:33It says the sharp razor of his tongue.
- 52:38Do you know people can use their tongue in the same way?
- 52:41Someone would use a sword? Oh, you only think that swords
- 52:45can kill 85 people. Now, I can tell you about people
- 52:47who use their tongues to create massacres.
- 52:51You don't need a bomb. James says that this tongue can
- 52:55cause wildfires. You don't need a gun.
- 52:59All you have to do is whisper one thing to the wrong person
- 53:03who has the right Authority and things can get ugly really
- 53:06quick. No man can tame the tongue.
- 53:10The Bible says, except the God man.
- 53:14And so the only way that this thing, this unruly thing, this
- 53:16thing that can lead to chaos into Havoc, is of the Holy
- 53:19Spirit, guards, your mouth and mind.
- 53:25But it doesn't just do that. This, when I read this, I read
- 53:28this tonight in verse 19. I was like, I was going to fall
- 53:30out of my seat. Look at verse 19.
- 53:34And knob the city of the priest, he put to the sword, both, man
- 53:39and woman, child and infant Ox donkey and sheep.
- 53:43He put to the sword. So it wasn't enough that he
- 53:46killed the priest. And remember, if there's anybody
- 53:49who was at fault here, who's not really at fault, but if there's
- 53:53anybody who's being accused, it was just the high priest.
- 53:55It was a hey Malik, why kill the other priests?
- 53:57They weren't involved. And not only that.
- 54:01Do I get to the green light to go to Knob the city of the
- 54:03priests, at the slaughter, the children, and the ox, and the
- 54:07farms, and the houses, and to create a mini genocide.
- 54:11For those who represent the kingdom of God at that time in
- 54:14that Covenant. That's disturbing and itself,
- 54:19but read deeper, can you tell me why?
- 54:23This is even more disturbing than on the surface level?
- 54:26Anybody see it the only way you're going to see this, if you
- 54:30remember, A Bible study a few chapters ago.
- 54:37I'm going to read it again. Yeah, go ahead.
- 54:39Do you have the answer? Yes, did you guys hear the
- 54:47answer when it came to God. Instructing Saul to destroy all
- 54:51the amalekites. He disobeyed.
- 54:55To go into that region and to destroy all the amalekites and
- 54:59their ox and their sheep. Because of their generational
- 55:04sin, Saul did not come through. But when it came to killing all
- 55:09the priests, he exterminated them That's disturbing.
- 55:14That's actually frightening. so when God says, to do something,
- 55:20You hesitate. But when your flesh says to do
- 55:23something, You do it without hesitation.
- 55:29And the point is this, that if he hasn't proven to already saw
- 55:33has shown us here that satisfying self is worthy of
- 55:37more diligence than pleasing God.
- 55:41The greater sacrifices were made for selfish Pursuits than for
- 55:46God's purposes and many are like that today.
- 55:50They don't make, they might not be killing cities, but they're
- 55:53pursuing their ambition, they're building their Kingdom, and
- 55:57they're putting their sweat, and they're putting their tears.
- 56:00And when you compare that to how they are participating with
- 56:05God's program for the ages. Yeah.
- 56:10This is so heartbreaking to see. I wonder how God felt about this
- 56:15as you looked from heaven. And saw a king who is willing to
- 56:20destroy his servants without cause.
- 56:22But when it came to the unrighteous who were supposed to
- 56:24be punished and him being the agent, he did not obey.
- 56:28Surely, the judge of the earth will do.
- 56:30Right? I'm surprised.
- 56:32God didn't strike him down here. I mean Lord, we just started
- 56:36with this Exile and he's already killing priests and their
- 56:40families and you haven't intervened yet, behold the mercy
- 56:43of God. Behold the mercy of God.
- 56:48Whenever I come to text like this and I learned something new
- 56:52about the mercy of God, I get more and more offended when
- 56:56people come up to me and say, why is the god of the Old
- 56:59Testament? So angry?
- 57:00And Jesus is so nice. That when somebody says I say
- 57:06this, with all due respect, when somebody says that proves that
- 57:08they have not read their Bibles, it's as simple as that.
- 57:11And that's maybe you're not there yet, maybe you haven't
- 57:13Journey Through It. But what offends me something
- 57:16when somebody comes arrogantly, like, as though they have
- 57:18studied the Old Testament can make such an accusation.
- 57:22I'm thinking here Lord. Why have the heavens not opened?
- 57:27It's because he's merciful. And we read here in verse 20,
- 57:31the one of the sons of Adam Alec this son of a he tub named.
- 57:34Abby, Arthur escaped and fled after David.
- 57:39And I be author told David that solid killed the priests of the
- 57:41Lord. And David said, the Abbe, Arthur
- 57:43I knew on that day. When do I get the Edomite?
- 57:45Was there that he would surely tell Saul?
- 57:48I have occasioned the death of all the persons of your father's
- 57:51house. Stay with me.
- 57:55Do not be afraid for he. Who seeks my life.
- 57:57Seeks your life with me. You shall be in safe.
- 58:00Keeping what an interesting statement that that David makes.
- 58:04He says this is my fault. This is my fault.
- 58:10Now you can read that one and two ways you can read it in this
- 58:12way, where this is self-imposed guilt of something that is
- 58:16outside of David's control because David showed up that day
- 58:20and asked for help. He makes the connection if I had
- 58:22not gone that gone that day and have not said anything without
- 58:25ask for help, then this probably wouldn't have happened.
- 58:29And you have many believers who live in guilt even today.
- 58:36Who hold things against themselves though?
- 58:37It doesn't make sense. And there are more people prone
- 58:40to that than others that that have this introspection about
- 58:44themselves in which they they easily gravitate towards shame
- 58:49and regret though. There's no evidence for it.
- 58:53And that's a tactic of the enemy.
- 58:54He can really, really cause people to be paralyzed because
- 58:58of thoughts like this. But is there another possibility
- 59:03of why David said this? Any idea.
- 59:18Yeah. Yeah.
- 59:20And so this can be pure humility.
- 59:22This can be pure humility and saying, you know.
- 59:25Yeah, there's something about my participation in this and he
- 59:29admits, he admits some wrong done.
- 59:32This is, this is what's really hard about narratives in the old
- 59:35test and because it's not like there's a commentary with every
- 59:38verse. You see what I'm saying?
- 59:40It's not like and what David said here was because of this
- 59:42and it was wrong, he shouldn't have thought like that.
- 59:44It does not as clear in the office.
- 59:46Would be very careful being dogmatic when it comes to
- 59:49narratives and that's why some people are scared to teach from
- 59:51the Old Testament all together because it's hard to distinct.
- 59:54Why is he saying this? Unless you have another verse or
- 59:57verses to back it up I'll give you one more conclusion before
- 1:00:00we closed. some would say that the reason why David is as
- 1:00:03confessing this Is because he lied.
- 1:00:09To the priest. Do you remember that?
- 1:00:14Remember, when he came before I came out.
- 1:00:15Like, and I am Alex, is what are you doing here alone?
- 1:00:18Yeah, the Kings is called me to do something, but I got it's a
- 1:00:22hasty thing. So can you help me out here and
- 1:00:24he lies again? And I wonder if David's
- 1:00:27conscience is pricked thinking to himself.
- 1:00:32If I had just told the truth maybe I could have helped the
- 1:00:35priest be on guard to be careful of Sol's rage and his blind
- 1:00:41anger and rage if that is true. The new and I've been presented
- 1:00:48another illustration among so many illustrations of how our
- 1:00:52personal sins that we think we can conceal.
- 1:00:55We can conceal them can reach people in ways and affect
- 1:00:59people's lives that we could never have imagined. if I just
- 1:01:03told the truth, right? If that is the case here, then
- 1:01:10what would have hurt more for David to say the truth or for
- 1:01:14him to lied? And the moment he probably
- 1:01:17thought Mi I worked, he probably thought Mi I was harmless.
- 1:01:23Mi, I helped me a just evade a situation that that could have
- 1:01:28caused me to be in trouble. And when he looks back, he
- 1:01:31realizes, if that is the interpretation.
- 1:01:35My like killed this guy. I had a duty to warn him.
- 1:01:41And you know, this that in the New Testament, there is place
- 1:01:43for us to warn people about other people when they are of
- 1:01:47great danger and threats. I hope today that on this Friday
- 1:01:52night, you've acquired greater wisdom from the word of God.
- 1:01:56Wisdom for you, not just to have a better life, a life free from
- 1:01:59pain, but a life that would glorify Jesus Christ by avoiding
- 1:02:04pitfalls that the undiscerning fall into or avoiding decisions
- 1:02:09that we think. In our own wisdom can work.
- 1:02:13When in fact the word of God says do not trust in the arm of
- 1:02:15the flesh. You and I have come to an
- 1:02:18important part of the Bible. Because things are really going
- 1:02:24to take another turn in chapter 23.
- 1:02:28Let's pray. Louis, thank you.
- 1:02:49That today, we had school. Today, we felt as though we were
- 1:02:54students sitting at the feet. Of you being an ultimate
- 1:03:02teacher. And this word being the book of
- 1:03:06books. This word being the blueprint
- 1:03:13for salvation and for a life. That can help us live in a way
- 1:03:19in which we most glorify Our God and no much more joy and safety
- 1:03:25and prosperity. But we just ask that you would
- 1:03:30help us be wise. Lord.
- 1:03:32If there's any application that we've heard is that there are
- 1:03:34different scenarios that beg us as the Book of Proverbs, does to
- 1:03:39acquire wisdom. Lord, make us a wise people Help
- 1:03:45us trust in your word. And Lord, perhaps even tonight
- 1:03:50there are many who are hearing The Whispers of the enemy that
- 1:03:53is trying to convince him, that there's something better out
- 1:03:56there maybe even Lord tonight, there is even one soul that
- 1:04:00cannot seem to give their whole heart to Christ.
- 1:04:04Because they've heard the same Persuasions, that's all brought
- 1:04:07to his men, who is the son of Jesse.
- 1:04:11What's the big deal of Jesus? Will you really give up your One
- 1:04:16Life to serve a God that you cannot see?
- 1:04:21But oh God we pray that you would blast through every lie
- 1:04:25and that you would clear the fog and that even this Bible study
- 1:04:29tonight would present a facet of your beauty.
- 1:04:32And at the heart that is not given themselves to Christ with
- 1:04:35surrender at this moment. Lord, may your Holy Spirit do
- 1:04:39what only he can do. Invicta world of
- 1:04:43unrighteousness. Lord tonight, we feel rich.
- 1:04:48We feel privileged that our eyes have been opened.
- 1:04:51But we thank you that this Friday night.
- 1:04:53We have gone that much deeper in the knowledge of who you are.
- 1:04:56And for this we are grateful and so Heavenly.
- 1:04:59Father, we Rejoice, Lord. We rejoice and we asked, oh,
- 1:05:02God, that as we have, studied the ugliness of being selfish of
- 1:05:06being self-centered, oh, Lord, we die to ourselves.
- 1:05:10And we ask that Christ would live in us and that we would
- 1:05:13live for his interests and the good of other.
- 1:05:16Word kill South tonight in a deeper way.
- 1:05:22Lord, we worship you because we have access to the truth and we
- 1:05:26can fellowship with you in a deeper way because of these
- 1:05:28truths. Blessed.
- 1:05:30Be the name of the Lord, in Jesus name, we pray.
- 1:05:33Amen. Let's stand and Worship the Lord
- 1:05:35Of Glory together.
