- 0:59Speaker 2: How are you?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Happy Monday. I'm doing well. Thank you.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Chris, it's hard to believe we have reached the end
- 1:05Speaker 3: of the first month. And, you know, I'm a big
- 1:09Speaker 3: efficiency guy. That's just for me when I start looking
- 1:12Speaker 3: at numbers and teams. And, you know, some of the
- 1:16Speaker 3: data will show you that, hey, look, if you're not
- 1:18Speaker 3: in the top 15 in offensive and defensive scoring efficiency
- 1:21Speaker 3: since the beginning of the BCS, you probably aren't going
- 1:24Speaker 3: to play for a national title. The only teams through
- 1:26Speaker 3: one month that are living in that space is Georgia,
- 1:30Speaker 3: Notre Dame, Miami, Alabama, and Ohio State.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Just a quick overview before we get into some specifics here.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Is it fair to say that those teams are probably
- 1:41Speaker 3: playing the best complete football, Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, Alabama,
- 1:45Speaker 3: and Ohio State?
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I would, despite the fact that they haven't played
- 1:52Speaker 1: anybody all that good. I really am comfortable in saying
- 1:57Speaker 1: that when they do, They will perform very efficiently, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: I think that they're one of the elite teams. What
- 2:04Speaker 1: I like about what I've seen with Texas is their
- 2:07Speaker 1: ability to do multiple things well and to win in
- 2:10Speaker 1: different ways. I like that. I think that's important. I
- 2:14Speaker 1: think that if you are over-relying on one area, that's
- 2:19Speaker 1: going to cost you the deeper you get. So that's
- 2:22Speaker 1: been impressive. I think Notre Dame's good. I think Miami
- 2:24Speaker 1: is good. I think Ohio State is good. I would
- 2:29Speaker 1: agree that other teams are flawed. You know, I don't
- 2:36Speaker 1: know anybody outside of that that I would want to
- 2:38Speaker 1: put in there. I love, I mean, I absolutely love
- 2:41Speaker 1: what Florida's doing right now. I just don't think that
- 2:44Speaker 1: they have enough to, you know, be the type of
- 2:48Speaker 1: team that could go as far as maybe their fan
- 2:51Speaker 1: base thinks right now because some of them think this
- 2:54Speaker 1: year's Indiana sucks. coming out of nowhere and winning it all.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I don't see that, particularly not coming from the SEC.
- 3:01Speaker 1: But I would agree with you, and I am more
- 3:05Speaker 1: than willing to open the door for anybody else to
- 3:10Speaker 1: penetrate that group and prove that they belong with that group,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and I'll be glad to point them out when I
- 3:15Speaker 1: see them. But I see some good teams outside of those.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I don't know that I would jump on the table
- 3:21Speaker 1: for any of them to– be a serious national championship contender.
- 3:27Speaker 3: You mentioned florida we'll start right there um 52 to
- 3:29Speaker 3: 28 omis just could not stop their run game and
- 3:33Speaker 3: i i think omis has some problems on that side
- 3:35Speaker 3: of the ball they'll have a week to work it
- 3:37Speaker 3: out uh you know you look at omis right now
- 3:41Speaker 3: and there's somewhere you know button up on 75th in
- 3:46Speaker 3: defensive scoring efficiency just kind of your take now florida's
- 3:49Speaker 3: got to go to missouri this week and we'll talk
- 3:51Speaker 3: mississippi state missouri but Your thoughts on both teams, Florida
- 3:54Speaker 3: and Ole Miss, and then Florida going off and taking
- 3:56Speaker 3: on Missouri this week.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Love Florida. Love how they're playing. They're physical. Their line
- 4:03Speaker 1: of scrimmage is good. They run the football with intensity.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They're physical on the defensive side of the ball. They've
- 4:10Speaker 1: got that attitude and that mentality. I expect them to win.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't think there are many teams that can beat them.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I think Georgia can, but I don't think many teams can.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Ole Miss is just not as good. It's all about
- 4:26Speaker 1: the quarterback. The quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss, doesn't light it up.
- 4:30Speaker 1: They don't have much of a chance. Their defense is
- 4:33Speaker 1: not very good. I just don't think they're particularly well coached.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I thought they won with a lot of emotion last week. And, look,
- 4:43Speaker 1: I think they'll win games, but I think everybody, again,
- 4:48Speaker 1: jumped the gun as they did with LSU after they
- 4:50Speaker 1: beat Clemson. Let's let it settle. Ole Miss is the
- 4:55Speaker 1: best team. They're not a playoff team. I never thought
- 4:58Speaker 1: they were a playoff team. I didn't think they were
- 5:00Speaker 1: a playoff team after they beat LSU. I just don't
- 5:03Speaker 1: think they're that good. Now, I do recognize that not
- 5:06Speaker 1: everybody's going to be able to bottle up the quarterback.
- 5:09Speaker 1: The quarterback is capable of keeping them in any game.
- 5:12Speaker 1: But I just don't think the team is overall anywhere
- 5:17Speaker 1: near as good as they were last year.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Chris Landry on your radio. And, of course, you can
- 5:21Speaker 3: get him at LandryFootball.com. Make sure you get the podcast
- 5:24Speaker 3: on YouTube and more. All right, Mississippi State, one of
- 5:26Speaker 3: the things we do know is they'll battle. They'll battle
- 5:28Speaker 3: you four quarters. And, you know, two weeks ago at
- 5:31Speaker 3: South Carolina, they went down early, came back and won.
- 5:33Speaker 3: This past week, they went up early, came back and won.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Your thoughts on Mississippi State as they get ready to
- 5:38Speaker 3: host Alabama this weekend?
- 5:41Speaker 1: Well, I like the team for the reasons that you mentioned.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I like their fight. I love the quarterback play. I
- 5:47Speaker 1: love the playmakers that they do have. I think you're
- 5:51Speaker 1: starting to see the fruits of what Jeff has tried
- 5:53Speaker 1: to put together, start to come in, to focus. I
- 5:58Speaker 1: hope everybody is optimistic about this weekend, their fan base,
- 6:03Speaker 1: but measured. Do I expect them to beat Alabama? I don't,
- 6:08Speaker 1: but I wouldn't be shocked if they did. In other words,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I think that they're going to give them a fight.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I think they're going to play hard. I think they're
- 6:16Speaker 1: going to play well. I don't know. If they can
- 6:19Speaker 1: put it together for four quarters, if they can, they
- 6:22Speaker 1: got a good shot. They really do. Because I think
- 6:25Speaker 1: Alabama leaves plays on the field too. But Alabama's got
- 6:29Speaker 1: more overall talent. They've got a quarterback that's dynamic as well. So, look,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I'm saying something that I would not have said in August.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Mississippi State, Alabama, boy, I'm really looking forward to that game.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It's going to be hopping in Starkville. There's no question
- 6:51Speaker 1: about it. And rightly so. I think Alabama is going
- 6:54Speaker 1: to get all it wants and have their hands full,
- 6:58Speaker 1: even though I think they're the more talented team.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Chris, what is going on with John Mateer?
- 7:06Speaker 1: Well, the guy's never been a good enough passer. They
- 7:09Speaker 1: don't have a good passing game around them. And if
- 7:12Speaker 1: they can't run the football well enough, they've got no chance.
- 7:15Speaker 1: The defense is not playing well. That's not up to
- 7:18Speaker 1: their standards. So what happens is when they get behind,
- 7:21Speaker 1: because their defense is not anywhere near elite, they got
- 7:25Speaker 1: to abandon the run. And they're not great at running
- 7:28Speaker 1: it to begin with, but if you become pass first,
- 7:32Speaker 1: they're a lower-level SEC-caliber team, and that's what we're seeing
- 7:35Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, it's largely Mateer and his limitations as
- 7:41Speaker 1: a passer, but it's more than that. It's not like
- 7:45Speaker 1: this is a really good team. If they had a
- 7:47Speaker 1: good quarterback, look out. This team is just not really good. And, again,
- 7:51Speaker 1: it's one of the things I always shake my head
- 7:53Speaker 1: when people, oh, man, look out, Oklahoma's a sleeper. I mean,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I don't know what people think. This team is not
- 8:02Speaker 1: nearly as good as people thought. So, therefore, it's like, oh,
- 8:06Speaker 1: my goodness, what's going on? Well, what's going on is
- 8:08Speaker 1: they're not really good and they're getting exposed.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Same question. Texas A & M, did you expect them
- 8:14Speaker 3: to kind of fall off the way they have?
- 8:16Speaker 5: No.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Now, this is a little bit more surprising. They look
- 8:19Speaker 1: like they have lost a lot of fight, a lot
- 8:23Speaker 1: of attitude. Now, the quarterback is not a passer, but
- 8:26Speaker 1: I thought the defense would play better. Look, this team
- 8:34Speaker 1: is in a lot of hurt. It's in a world
- 8:37Speaker 1: of hurt. I mean, they're in a game this week
- 8:40Speaker 1: that is a– maybe get-right type of game for them,
- 8:44Speaker 1: but it's also a game in which they can get embarrassed.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I think Arkansas is really bad. Good win at Tulsa
- 8:53Speaker 1: last week, but can you imagine if Arkansas comes in
- 8:56Speaker 1: and pulls the upset in College Station? I mean, they
- 8:59Speaker 1: are fit to be tied there. They've got that battered
- 9:04Speaker 1: Aggie syndrome thing they talk about a lot. That thing
- 9:08Speaker 1: looks like it's completely... gone off the rails and I'm
- 9:13Speaker 1: just really surprised that they've gone that far down that quickly.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Quarterback play, nonewithstanding, it's the other part that just, I mean,
- 9:25Speaker 1: they were absolutely humiliated against LSU. They had nothing. They
- 9:30Speaker 1: had no answer for anything that was going on. They
- 9:34Speaker 1: had the deer in the headlights look from the beginning
- 9:37Speaker 1: and it just got progressively worse.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Were you surprised, and.
- 9:41Speaker 3: We're visiting with Chris Landry, LandryFootball.com is where you can
- 9:45Speaker 3: find him, and of course on X at Landry Football,
- 9:47Speaker 3: that USC, or Oregon rather, behind a backup quarterback in
- 9:52Speaker 3: Dylan Raiola was able to put up the numbers that
- 9:55Speaker 3: they did and kind of wake up this weekend.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Yeah, how about that? as an important move? We talk
- 10:03Speaker 1: about it in the NFL, backup quarterback, the importance. How
- 10:07Speaker 1: about that as a backup quarterback? They started to pummel
- 10:11Speaker 1: USC when Dylan got in, and obviously an unfortunate and
- 10:16Speaker 1: ugly look for USC. after the hit more than anything,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and that was embarrassing. Look, I think you always have
- 10:25Speaker 1: to be aware about a team that's talented, that maybe
- 10:29Speaker 1: starts off poorly, gets embarrassed, and let's make no mistake,
- 10:32Speaker 1: they were embarrassed in the win against Boise, certainly embarrassed
- 10:36Speaker 1: in the loss against Oklahoma State. They got challenged a lot.
- 10:40Speaker 1: They got two new coordinators that I think they really
- 10:44Speaker 1: struggled early, and I think they came back and they
- 10:47Speaker 1: showed a lot of fight. One thing about Dan Lanning's team,
- 10:49Speaker 1: these teams are tough. They don't always play the smartest
- 10:54Speaker 1: in the biggest moments, but I would never question their toughness.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They were the tougher, more physical team, and they took
- 11:01Speaker 1: it to USC. It's ironic that it took basically what
- 11:06Speaker 1: amounted to a cheap shot, and I recognize that it's
- 11:09Speaker 1: tough for defenders today, but that, to me.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Had a lot of respect for how Oregon responded, and
- 11:18Speaker 1: I lost what little respect I had for Lincoln Riley
- 11:22Speaker 1: and his USC program in that game. So that's my
- 11:25Speaker 1: thoughts on that.
- 11:27Speaker 2: We're brought to you by Maristar Casino. Get out and play.

- 12:55Speaker 3: and the NFL. Go to LandryFootball, LandryFootball.com. Chris, we don't
- 12:59Speaker 3: know the answer to what I'm fixing to ask you,
- 13:01Speaker 3: but this is where my mind goes. When you see
- 13:04Speaker 3: the money that's going into these college football teams, and
- 13:08Speaker 3: then you see what happens at Oklahoma, and we see
- 13:11Speaker 3: this every year, or every year we're going to see this,
- 13:14Speaker 3: Texas A & M, you have to wonder, do buyers
- 13:18Speaker 3: get buyer fatigue eventually?
- 13:23Speaker 1: Well, think about this for a second, because it happens
- 13:27Speaker 1: all the time in the NFL. And it's going to happen.
- 13:31Speaker 1: It's the price of doing business in college. So it's,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know, when you hear numbers and they're going to
- 13:39Speaker 1: go up and up and up, I can't believe they're
- 13:41Speaker 1: paying that guy $ 5 million. That it's what it's going
- 13:46Speaker 1: to cost you to get any quarterback. And it is
- 13:50Speaker 1: a bit of a crapshoot. You know, it may or
- 13:53Speaker 1: may not work. There's this, you know, Can't believe they
- 13:56Speaker 1: paid Sam Levitt that. Oh, well, he's good. It's back
- 14:00Speaker 1: and forth. Yeah, but I guarantee you, if you're Oklahoma
- 14:05Speaker 1: and you're going to be gun-shy paying quarterbacks, then you're
- 14:09Speaker 1: going to go through a lot of them and you're
- 14:10Speaker 1: going to be really bad. I think the key is
- 14:13Speaker 1: you've got to be careful in your evaluation process. What's
- 14:16Speaker 1: the upside? What's the ability? It's like anything else. You've
- 14:20Speaker 1: got to be careful who you're spending the money to,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but the going rate is... whoever is going to be
- 14:27Speaker 1: the quarterback is going to make that amount of money
- 14:29Speaker 1: or even more going forward at any major school. So
- 14:35Speaker 1: I think we need to understand that until things get
- 14:38Speaker 1: fixed and don't know how they're going to get fixed
- 14:40Speaker 1: at this point, but if it doesn't have a cap
- 14:43Speaker 1: and we can do that, that changes it, but that's
- 14:46Speaker 1: what it's going to cost. It's just, did you hire
- 14:50Speaker 1: the right guy? And that's, that's exactly what it is
- 14:52Speaker 1: is hiring the right guy because they're, They're paid guys
- 14:55Speaker 1: right now.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Chris, before we do a little bit on the NFL here,
- 14:59Speaker 3: and I've got a couple notes on here, thoughts on
- 15:01Speaker 3: Auburn or anybody else in the league, in the SEC?
- 15:04Speaker 1: Well, you know, Auburn's a nice win, get a win. Vanderbilt,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm curious to see this week what they're able to
- 15:13Speaker 1: do at Tennessee. I don't think they're going to fare
- 15:15Speaker 1: all that well. I see some holes in there, and
- 15:19Speaker 1: obviously– The narrative is just worse for Alex Golis when
- 15:24Speaker 1: you see John Summerall doing such a great job at Florida.
- 15:27Speaker 1: We all know that story. He kind of was interested
- 15:30Speaker 1: in the Auburn job was done. They kind of forced
- 15:33Speaker 1: DJ Durkin down his throat if he took the job.
- 15:36Speaker 1: And he said, no, his wife, the Auburn alum. So
- 15:42Speaker 1: I think Alex is doing a pretty good job. I
- 15:44Speaker 1: just don't think they're nearly as good. I think South
- 15:47Speaker 1: Carolina is a mess. I think the coaching change is
- 15:50Speaker 1: inevitable there. I love what Kentucky continues to do. Their attitude,
- 15:55Speaker 1: their play is impressive. So that kind of bears watching. Again,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I look at the teams that are really bad in
- 16:05Speaker 1: South Carolina, directionless. Arkansas concerns me because it's more administrative.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's a first-year head coach. And then just at the
- 16:16Speaker 1: top of the list, The league, I'm looking to see
- 16:18Speaker 1: that settle a little bit with a couple more games
- 16:21Speaker 1: under our belt.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Chris, looking at the NFL, first, any thoughts on J.J.
- 16:25Speaker 3: McCarthy being moved from Minnesota to New York.
- 16:27Speaker 2: The Giants?
- 16:28Speaker 1: I love it. Look, I mean, everybody's giving up on him,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and I get it. When he was drafted, probably overdrafted,
- 16:38Speaker 1: but it's about his potential and his ability. And the
- 16:41Speaker 1: biggest problem we have with these quarterbacks is the lack
- 16:44Speaker 1: of development. So we'll see if they can develop him.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I don't think they're going to want to play him soon.
- 16:51Speaker 1: But I love it because there's very little risk there.
- 16:54Speaker 1: There's upside potential. They have their starting quarterback on their team.
- 17:01Speaker 1: This guy may end up coming in, performing well. And listen,
- 17:06Speaker 1: if he does, think about it like flipping a house.
- 17:10Speaker 1: They could turn around and trade him. It gives them insurance.
- 17:15Speaker 1: They've got a few years to kind of work with
- 17:18Speaker 1: him and Jackson Dart on rookie contracts. I like it
- 17:22Speaker 1: a lot, and I think he can bring some of
- 17:23Speaker 1: the same qualities. He's just not as developed. He certainly
- 17:27Speaker 1: didn't have the same level of coaching in the passing
- 17:31Speaker 1: game in college that Jackson Dart had. So I think
- 17:34Speaker 1: it's a very low-risk move, and it makes a lot
- 17:37Speaker 1: of sense. I thought it was going to happen. I'm
- 17:40Speaker 1: surprised it took as long as it did.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Chris, I found this funny but also sad. Dolphins head
- 17:47Speaker 3: coach Jeff Hatley was stunned by the lack of reporters
- 17:50Speaker 3: at his press conference today. They said a majority of
- 17:52Speaker 3: the media was attending the Miami Heat's media day, and
- 17:54Speaker 3: Halfley said, hey, quote, is this everyone that's coming?
- 17:57Speaker 2: I don't know what it was. How many? Two, three?
- 18:00Speaker 3: But it looks like even the reporters have checked out
- 18:02Speaker 3: on Miami down in South Beach.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Well, I missed that. That's interesting. Yeah, this team's really bad.
- 18:08Speaker 1: It's a rebuilding situation. It's going to be a long season. And, oh,
- 18:14Speaker 1: by the way, the Chiefs come in the town. I mean,
- 18:16Speaker 1: the Chiefs leave town with a win. And now you've
- 18:20Speaker 1: got to end up and go week in and week out,
- 18:23Speaker 1: go to Minnesota this week. It doesn't get easier. It
- 18:26Speaker 1: really doesn't. It's a bad-looking football team that's going nowhere. And, yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: that's a bit of a front-runner. No question about it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Like Los Angeles.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And how about the Raiders sitting at 3-0 with the
- 18:37Speaker 2: Chiefs and the Bills?
- 18:39Speaker 1: Love it. They're playing well. They're playing hard. I'm impressed
- 18:42Speaker 1: with the fact that playing with a lot of energy
- 18:44Speaker 1: and confidence, I've got a couple of playmakers stepping up. Look,
- 18:49Speaker 1: they've got a veteran quarterback that allows them good balance,
- 18:52Speaker 1: running the football, throwing it. Yeah, you can see the improvement.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Not ready to get overly excited yet, but look at
- 18:59Speaker 1: the improvement at this stage. I would not have thought
- 19:02Speaker 1: we'd be talking about them as unbeaten.
- 19:05Speaker 3: And a couple more questions here as far as the NFL.
- 19:09Speaker 3: What else sticks out to you in the NFL today?
- 19:11Speaker 3: It can be either side, the NFC or the AFC
- 19:13Speaker 3: as we move into another week.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Dallas's defense is still a mess in terms of schematic.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Green Bay's looking really bad. I like this Jacksonville team
- 19:24Speaker 1: a lot. You know, the Rams, I still think are
- 19:27Speaker 1: going to find their footing, but right now they look
- 19:31Speaker 1: like the third best team in their own division for
- 19:33Speaker 1: a team that everyone thought might go unbeaten and is
- 19:36Speaker 1: the best team in the league by far. That goes
- 19:38Speaker 1: to show you how quickly you can go and Man,
- 19:41Speaker 1: is New England falling off the map. They go to
- 19:43Speaker 1: Buffalo this week. The quarterback's really struggling. The Jets are
- 19:47Speaker 1: playing better. Big win for Baltimore. Minnesota's defense is really good,
- 19:52Speaker 1: but is that going to be enough? Denver, San Francisco, wow.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Can't wait for that one this week. It's going to
- 19:58Speaker 1: be really good. And Chiefs-Raiders, a long time since we've
- 20:01Speaker 1: talked about that as being a really good matchup.
- 20:04Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it. Hey, one final question. Let's
- 20:07Speaker 2: go back to college. I've got a few minutes here.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Oklahoma State.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Are you surprised at what they're doing, and have they
- 20:12Speaker 3: inserted themselves in this Big 12 race?
- 20:15Speaker 2: I know it's early.
- 20:15Speaker 3: They lost first game of the season, come back and
- 20:18Speaker 3: beat Oregon. They have not lost since week one.
- 20:21Speaker 1: No, and I tell you what, they've really done a
- 20:24Speaker 1: good job. I mean, they play hard. For the most part,
- 20:28Speaker 1: they play smart. I don't know that I'm ready to
- 20:30Speaker 1: put them in that chase in the Big 12, but
- 20:34Speaker 1: I can tell you this, they're no joke. I mean,
- 20:36Speaker 1: you're going to have to play well to beat them.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I mean, let's call it what it is. Oregon was
- 20:41Speaker 1: completely out of sorts in that game. But Oklahoma State
- 20:46Speaker 1: kind of took it to them once the opening was there. So, yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I'm very impressed. Very pleasantly surprised with what I've seen there.
- 20:55Speaker 1: In my mind, I just got that old school of
- 20:57Speaker 1: thinking that it's going to take a little while. Man,
- 21:00Speaker 1: that attitude changed. I mean, it's not the same level
- 21:02Speaker 1: of what Florida is, but look at the difference of
- 21:05Speaker 1: Florida and their attitude and their culture and their style
- 21:09Speaker 1: on a lower level. Same thing with Oklahoma State. They
- 21:12Speaker 1: were just wandering in the Neverlands, and now all of
- 21:16Speaker 1: a sudden they are a physical-looking team that no one
- 21:19Speaker 1: wants to play.

- 23:08Speaker 3: All right, JC says that Chris Landry is also seeing
- 23:13Speaker 3: the board clear. Propaganda-free zone. He says that RezDog is
- 23:16Speaker 3: a propaganda-free zone. DX says your yard looks a little high.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Just saying.
- 23:20Speaker 3: So I got Churro and DX hanging out down there
- 23:23Speaker 3: checking my yard out. I do want to get into
- 23:25Speaker 3: these rankings going into high school football for this week.
- 23:28Speaker 3: But first, The Athletic did a piece. I thought this
- 23:31Speaker 3: was creative. How many times Rocky Top has played during
- 23:34Speaker 3: a game? And I did a cross comparison through Beaver's
- 23:39Speaker 3: best friend, Grok, on other things. So first off, Rocky
- 23:46Speaker 3: Top is played on average 30 to 50 times per ballgame.
- 23:53Speaker 3: One track to season, it was played 438 times across
- 23:56Speaker 3: 13 games, about 34 times a game.
- 23:59Speaker 2: It's a lot.
- 24:01Speaker 3: South Carolina does the Rooster Crow plus Sandstorm. Remember the
- 24:04Speaker 3: old Sandstorm? They do that about nine times a ballgame.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Depends on how good they're doing. And by the way,
- 24:11Speaker 3: Shane Beamer's in trouble. And we got an update on
- 24:14Speaker 3: Dylan Stewart. Mississippi State with the Cowbells says the effect
- 24:18Speaker 3: in a big ball game is constant clanging rather than
- 24:20Speaker 3: 30 to 50 distinct performances. And look, the Cowbells don't
- 24:26Speaker 3: bother me. Do they bother you? I know some people
- 24:29Speaker 3: they do. Like our boss says he can't stand the
- 24:32Speaker 3: sound of them. But it does depend on where you're
- 24:35Speaker 3: at in the stadium. For instance, if you're on field level,
- 24:39Speaker 3: it's just an ambiance of noise. If you're in, you know,
- 24:44Speaker 3: like Media Row, the press area, it's an ambiance of noise.
- 24:48Speaker 3: If you're in the crowd, it is a little Klanga-ish.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Where are you on the Cowbells?
- 24:55Speaker 4: I'm okay with them, but I also have not been
- 24:58Speaker 4: to a game in Starkville since 2003. So I don't remember.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Stadium has changed since then, from what I know, and
- 25:08Speaker 4: I'm sure it's much louder now.
- 25:11Speaker 6: So.
- 25:12Speaker 4: I don't remember how loud they actually get. I'm sure
- 25:15Speaker 4: it's plenty loud, but you know, just sitting from here,
- 25:18Speaker 4: I have no problem with the cowbell.
- 25:20Speaker 3: You know, what's funny about the cowbells is you never
- 25:22Speaker 3: hear the sec speak of the cowbells anymore. Remember it
- 25:26Speaker 3: was a problem in the nineties, especially when state got good,
- 25:29Speaker 3: when Cheryl was there and it was times where it
- 25:32Speaker 3: was a problem with mullet and they would throw up
- 25:33Speaker 3: the thing and they still may throw it up there,
- 25:36Speaker 3: ring responsibly.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Well, nobody's ringing responsibly, right? Nobody.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Um, Alabama's Dixieland Delight is played at least once between
- 25:46Speaker 3: the third and fourth quarters, occasionally twice in a blowout.
- 25:50Speaker 3: LSU's Calling Baton Rouge is played twice a ballgame, once
- 25:54Speaker 3: before kickoff and once heading into the fourth quarter. Wisconsin
- 25:58Speaker 3: does jump around once at the end of the third quarter,
- 26:02Speaker 3: but they hit about two minutes and 30 seconds of
- 26:04Speaker 3: that thing. Enter Sandman, of course, is played before kickoff.
- 26:08Speaker 2: That's a signature for Virginia Tech. Michigan, Mr.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Brightside, once near the end of the third quarter, fans
- 26:15Speaker 3: often keep singing after the speaker cuts out. Oregon does
- 26:19Speaker 3: shout once between the third and fourth quarter. So all
- 26:22Speaker 3: this to say is everybody has their deals. I would
- 26:27Speaker 3: be curious. Let me see.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Let me look.
- 26:34Speaker 3: I wonder if Ole Miss' hottie-tottie cheer is said more
- 26:38Speaker 3: than Tennessee playing Rocky top. And I just put that
- 26:43Speaker 3: in the system to see, you think it is?
- 26:45Speaker 4: Oh, I'm sure it's close.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Let's see. There's not an official track count on this. Um, yeah, it's,
- 26:58Speaker 3: but it's not system systematically played 30 to 50 times.
- 27:01Speaker 3: So there's not an official track count on this. DX says,
- 27:05Speaker 3: let's go to a game, be even state. So he
- 27:07Speaker 3: wants you to go with him to state done.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Is that an official invite?
- 27:11Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 27:12Speaker 4: I remember the last, you know, my stupid rain brain.
- 27:16Speaker 4: I remember the last time I was there. It was,
- 27:19Speaker 4: so it was 2003 and that was Jackie Cheryl's last year.
- 27:24Speaker 4: So they were real terrible and they were playing LSU
- 27:28Speaker 4: and they just got disgustingly destroyed and it was disgustingly
- 27:34Speaker 4: hot outside and everything about it was just disgusting.
- 27:40Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 27:41Speaker 2: And which game was that?
- 27:43Speaker 4: It was LSU.
- 27:44Speaker 2: 2000, and they got killed. Yeah, 2003. That wasn't that
- 27:49Speaker 2: Thursday night game, was it? No, it was a Saturday.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Because they had the Michael Hennig Thursday night. What was it,
- 27:56Speaker 3: like six interceptions? Hell, it could have been nine.
- 28:00Speaker 2: You remember that?
- 28:00Speaker 6: I don't.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Oh, Hennig was just throwing it to him. Somebody brought
- 28:05Speaker 3: up the Vandy Wessler. I think it was three-hump camel.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I'd rather listen to the Vandy Wessler than that rooster.
- 28:10Speaker 3: So I wonder how many times in a baseball game
- 28:12Speaker 3: that Vandy Whistler.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Probably more than Rocky Top.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah, let's see. It's not official stadium tradition, like Rocky Top.
- 28:21Speaker 2: It's two to see. Yeah, Preacher Franklin and Jeff Pack. Yeah,
- 28:27Speaker 2: I can't give you an exact number on that.
- 28:29Speaker 3: All right, the SEC in South Carolina has come out.
- 28:32Speaker 3: They are reprimanding Dylan Stewart. The SEC feels so strongly
- 28:36Speaker 3: about this. They have put out a statement about this. Uh,
- 28:39Speaker 3: the sec and South Carolina have announced a joint one
- 28:41Speaker 3: game suspension for star edge rusher, Dylan Stewart, uh, for
- 28:45Speaker 3: throwing a punch at an Alabama player quote, such action
- 28:50Speaker 3: against an opponent carries a serious risk of injury and
- 28:52Speaker 3: has no place in our conference competition. Greg Sankey said,
- 28:55Speaker 3: South Carolina is going to keep him in indefinite suspension. So, uh,
- 28:58Speaker 3: this is, this is not good for him. Uh, this
- 29:01Speaker 3: is not good for you. Oh, and DX wants you
- 29:02Speaker 3: to take the pig as well. So how about that?
- 29:05Speaker 3: All right.
- 29:07Speaker 2: And let's see.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Um, Looking quickly at Mississippi Gridiron going into the week
- 29:14Speaker 3: because we're about to get to the point where.
- 29:17Speaker 6: We are.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Region play is happening starting this week, and the MAIS
- 29:21Speaker 3: has already started. So we'll start to see some separation
- 29:25Speaker 3: in high school football around the state as teams jockey
- 29:28Speaker 3: for playoff positioning. Tupelo is still number one, no surprise.
- 29:32Speaker 3: They beat West Point 34-6 over the weekend. They're 5-0.
- 29:36Speaker 3: They'll play at Hartfield Academy.
- 29:39Speaker 2: This week.
- 29:39Speaker 3: So Hartfield went up there last year. They're coming back
- 29:43Speaker 3: down here this year. So if you want to see
- 29:45Speaker 3: Tupelo in person, they'll be at Hartfield on Friday night.
- 29:49Speaker 3: And I have no doubt that Hartfield will play extremely hard,
- 29:52Speaker 3: but Tupelo has just rolled everybody. And I don't know
- 29:55Speaker 3: that anybody beats Tupelo this year. They may go perfect again. Pedal, 5-0.
- 30:00Speaker 3: They beat Clinton 42-28. They'll play at West Jones. Watch
- 30:04Speaker 3: West Jones this week. Pedal is a sneaky 5-0. They're
- 30:08Speaker 3: not bad. But they haven't really played anybody. Well, they
- 30:12Speaker 3: beat Gulfport. But I was told they beat them in overtime.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Gulfport turned it over five times. They still beat them.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Watch West Jones. They could sneak up on Pedal on
- 30:19Speaker 3: Friday night. Brandon has moved to No. 3. They are 4-1.
- 30:23Speaker 3: They beat Starkville 38-31 in double overtime. They'll play Northwest Rankin.
- 30:26Speaker 3: They'll get North Brandon on Friday night down at Brandon
- 30:30Speaker 3: as they open region play.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Starville at 4-1. They move to No. 4. They are open.
- 30:34Speaker 2: They are off.
- 30:35Speaker 3: As a lot of off weeks are starting to happen
- 30:37Speaker 3: as well. And let's see here. Goldport at No. 5.
- 30:44Speaker 3: They beat Pascagoula 41-7. And they play Ocean Springs coming
- 30:48Speaker 3: up this weekend. Let's see. I just missed this. JC,
- 30:56Speaker 3: was Jake scared to say this? Tells me he doesn't
- 30:59Speaker 3: want B to get a raise. No, see, JC, I
- 31:01Speaker 3: would call this propaganda on your side.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I missed it.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Is the boss that hates the cowbells the same one
- 31:06Speaker 3: that won't give B a raise? If so, his opinion
- 31:09Speaker 3: is irrelevant. Also, no one ever talks about cowbells till
- 31:12Speaker 3: state is good. The last part of that is absolutely true. B,
- 31:17Speaker 3: we are trying to get you that raise, though.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I don't buy it. We're trying. We're trying. There ain't
- 31:23Speaker 2: a whole lot of raises in this building, though.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Nope.
- 31:27Speaker 4: Nope.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Nope.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Never has been.
- 31:29Speaker 3: That's across the board. Even for people that want 65.
- 31:32Speaker 3: There's just not a whole lot of raises. But no,
- 31:34Speaker 3: JC's right. The Cowbells never come up until State is good.
- 31:37Speaker 3: That's when the Cowbells become a problem. If State is bad,
- 31:40Speaker 3: nobody speaks of the Cowbells. If State is good, people
- 31:43Speaker 3: start speaking of the Cowbell.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Oxford at No. 6. They're 4-1.
- 31:47Speaker 3: They beat Grenada this past week, 23-7. They'll play Madison
- 31:50Speaker 3: Central in a region game on Friday. Oak Grove is 3-1.
- 31:53Speaker 3: They beat Laurel 42-20 at No. 7. They play at Houston,
- 31:57Speaker 3: Tennessee this weekend. Warren Central is No. 8. They're 5-0.
- 32:01Speaker 3: They beat Madison Central 42-21. They'll take a bye week
- 32:03Speaker 3: this week. Brookhaven 5-0. They beat Northwest Rankin 41-28. They'll
- 32:08Speaker 3: take a bye week as well. The Iberville is 5-0.
- 32:10Speaker 3: They beat Harrison Central 42-7. They'll take on West Harrison Friday.
- 32:15Speaker 3: 7A rankings courtesy of Mississippi Gridiron, Tupelo, Petal, Brandon. Gulfport, Oxford,

- 34:43Speaker 3: Maloney's text line. DX says you should parlay your salary.
- 34:46Speaker 3: I should parlay my salary to Beav. So he's wanting
- 34:49Speaker 3: me to basically just forfeit my money to you.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Well, Jake, let's go back then. Last segment, you said
- 34:56Speaker 4: you were trying to get me a raise. So how
- 34:59Speaker 4: bad do you want me to have a raise? How
- 35:01Speaker 4: bad do you want me to have more money?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Well, I would love for you to have more money,
- 35:05Speaker 2: but the conventional way. I don't know. That's conventional.
- 35:08Speaker 4: There's some sort of, there's some sort of thing that
- 35:13Speaker 4: seems like it's been tried before is where we all
- 35:16Speaker 4: share money. What I don't have you give me. And
- 35:20Speaker 4: it seems to have always worked out in the past
- 35:22Speaker 4: before throughout the world.
- 35:25Speaker 6: Right.
- 35:26Speaker 4: So let's try that again.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Let me see if we can set that up. Let
- 35:29Speaker 3: me see if we can set that up for you. Um,
- 35:36Speaker 3: through Camario Taylor's first run as a quarterback. And we're
- 35:40Speaker 3: talking about a little bit last year plus this year.
- 35:42Speaker 3: If you compare Dak Prescott at this time through his career,
- 35:47Speaker 3: it looks like Taylor is, and we're looking at, you know,
- 35:51Speaker 3: is it fair to say Dak's the, is Dak the
- 35:52Speaker 3: best quarterback State's ever had? Obviously he's the most popular
- 35:55Speaker 3: for sure. I think he's the best that they've ever had.
- 35:58Speaker 3: And of course you look at what he's continued.
- 35:59Speaker 2: To do in the NFL.
- 36:00Speaker 3: At the same time in their careers at Mississippi State,
- 36:04Speaker 3: Prescott was completing 56% of his passes.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Taylor, 64%. Taylor, 1,821 yards in the same number of games. Dak, 670.
- 36:13Speaker 3: I don't think this touchdown number's right, but Taylor's still
- 36:18Speaker 3: out in front. Rushing Taylor out in front, 643 to 280.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Total offense, Taylor out in front as well. It's different eras.
- 36:28Speaker 3: It's different offense, but his trajectory is extremely high.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Is it not?
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it's funny because I think it was either just
- 36:36Speaker 4: last week or the week before when Jason and Flagstaff
- 36:41Speaker 4: was talking about Camario being a better passer at this
- 36:46Speaker 4: stage in his career than Dak Prescott. And we didn't
- 36:52Speaker 4: know because we didn't have the numbers. So now you've
- 36:54Speaker 4: got the numbers. So it sounds like Jason was right.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Well, I will say this, no doubt. I mean, look,
- 36:59Speaker 3: and Dak did. so much at Mississippi state. And he
- 37:02Speaker 3: was a heck of a quarterback still is a heck
- 37:04Speaker 3: of a quarterback. Taylor throws it at a different level though.
- 37:09Speaker 3: I mean, his accuracy with the deep ball and his
- 37:13Speaker 3: accuracy to be able to put the football in holes is,
- 37:16Speaker 3: is fun to watch. There's not a lot of guys
- 37:18Speaker 3: around the country that can do that. I mean, he
- 37:20Speaker 3: throws a better ball than Arch Manning.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Is that fair?
- 37:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
- 37:26Speaker 2: He throws a better ball than Arch Manning. Let's see here.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Dog tired, Florence. Let's see. What is he? Dog tired's favor.
- 37:36Speaker 2: That's called communism, I think. What is he talking about?
- 37:39Speaker 4: That's what I was getting at when I said we've
- 37:42Speaker 4: tried some things in the world before where whatever I
- 37:45Speaker 4: don't have, you just give me part of what you have.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Okay. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ready, set, go.
- 37:53Speaker 3: If we're going on strength of character, Matt Wyatt is
- 37:55Speaker 3: my choice for best quarterback of all time at Mississippi State.
- 37:59Speaker 3: So he just voted for Matt Wyatt.
- 38:00Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 38:04Speaker 2: You're not giving Matt Wyatt your vote?
- 38:06Speaker 4: Well, strength of character isn't really going to win you
- 38:09Speaker 4: a game. Of course, Matt Wyatt at quarterback isn't going
- 38:13Speaker 4: to win you a game either, but I'm not going
- 38:16Speaker 4: to go by that stat.
- 38:18Speaker 3: And Texas coach Steve Sarkeesian made comments when asked about
- 38:24Speaker 3: Florida and Mississippi State this week in his press conference.
- 38:26Speaker 3: He said, they, Florida, were on my card. I tried
- 38:29Speaker 3: to tell you guys about Florida last year. Of course,
- 38:31Speaker 3: Texas went down there and lost. No one wanted me
- 38:33Speaker 3: to believe me. They got real players in Gainesville and
- 38:37Speaker 3: they got a good football team and they've kind of
- 38:40Speaker 3: figured it out. So we'll worry about that when that
- 38:43Speaker 3: one comes in Mississippi state. I knew about Camario Taylor
- 38:45Speaker 3: a year ago. They just didn't play him a lot.
- 38:48Speaker 3: They put him in our game. He threw a touchdown pass.
- 38:51Speaker 3: So they've got, they've gotten real. This league is no joke.
- 38:55Speaker 3: And he is absolutely correct. The league is absolutely no joke.
- 39:01Speaker 3: And you know, So are you more surprised that Mississippi
- 39:04Speaker 3: State is 4-0 or more surprised that Oklahoma and Texas
- 39:11Speaker 3: A & M, after one month, are bottom feeders in
- 39:14Speaker 3: the league?
- 39:20Speaker 4: I'm surprised that Mississippi State is 4-0, but those two
- 39:25Speaker 4: teams being at the bottom bottom, yeah, I'd say that's
- 39:29Speaker 4: a little surprising. more surprising. I thought Oklahoma was going
- 39:33Speaker 4: to have a good year this year.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Oh, I did too. I did too.
- 39:39Speaker 4: And I've been fooled by Oklahoma before, so I was,
- 39:42Speaker 4: you know, I feel like I know better, but coming
- 39:46Speaker 4: into this year, I thought it was different. I thought
- 39:49Speaker 4: they were going to be good. I thought Mateer was
- 39:52Speaker 4: going to be a year better.
- 39:53Speaker 6: Yep.
- 39:55Speaker 4: And Mateer is like four years worse. He has regressed.
- 40:01Speaker 2: No, he really has.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sitting here looking at some of these highlights.
- 40:06Speaker 3: They're still popping up on X on John Mateer over
- 40:10Speaker 3: the weekend. And look, some people have said, well, let's wait.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Mississippi State was 4-0 last year. That's a different 4-0.
- 40:19Speaker 6: Isn't it?
- 40:20Speaker 3: That's a different 4-0. First off, the schedule was not,
- 40:23Speaker 3: you didn't go on the road and beat two power
- 40:26Speaker 3: four teams. State went on the road this year and
- 40:28Speaker 3: beat Minnesota and South Carolina. Last year, you were playing,
- 40:31Speaker 3: you know, directional U for several weeks, and then you
- 40:35Speaker 3: beat Arizona State at home. This year, you beat a
- 40:39Speaker 3: top 25 team in Missouri for the first time since 2014.
- 40:41Speaker 2: I think this 4-0 is totally different.
- 40:43Speaker 1: St.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Louis Vic, Pete Golding, had that defeated expression on his
- 40:48Speaker 3: face as Ole Miss and Florida were trading TDs in
- 40:50Speaker 3: the fourth. That phrase, when you have two QBs, you
- 40:54Speaker 3: have none, came to mind with him pulling double duty
- 40:57Speaker 3: as DC and head coach. Should he go strictly as
- 41:00Speaker 3: a head coach? It's interesting, Vic, you bring that up.
- 41:03Speaker 3: I thought about that this weekend. Because that Ole Miss
- 41:06Speaker 3: defense should not be that bad right now. And I
- 41:11Speaker 3: think Golding is going to have to make a decision
- 41:13Speaker 3: at some point. Like, am I going to be the
- 41:15Speaker 3: head coach? Obviously, he's going to be the head coach.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Or do I need to pull a D.C. in next year,
- 41:20Speaker 3: like a true D.C.? And that will be I did
- 41:23Speaker 3: think about that this weekend.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Possibly.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Joe, appreciate the show today. Joe, we appreciate you. You
- 41:28Speaker 3: think he's fixing to go have dinner with J.C.
- 41:31Speaker 2: And Resdog?
- 41:32Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 41:34Speaker 4: I don't know about that. I don't think it's going
- 41:35Speaker 4: to go that far.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Hey, do we have any Aaron Rodgers news?
- 41:40Speaker 4: No, Aaron Rodgers, he's probably pleased after that performance yesterday. Steelers,
- 41:46Speaker 4: where did you come from? First two weeks, you had
- 41:49Speaker 4: one touchdown drive offensively, and then yesterday you pop up
- 41:54Speaker 4: and you are running all over an improved Bengals defense,
- 41:58Speaker 4: or we thought was greatly improved. So now I think
- 42:01Speaker 4: he's pleased, so maybe he's not throwing anyone under the
- 42:04Speaker 4: bus this week.
- 42:07Speaker 2: And Brown Horner, how about this, Jake?
- 42:09Speaker 3: The surprise is that people are talking more about when
- 42:11Speaker 3: the Heisman mentioning Taylor more than they're mentioning Mateer, who
- 42:14Speaker 3: was on the preseason list. Yeah, you always have those
- 42:17Speaker 3: couple that are on the preseason list that don't show
- 42:19Speaker 3: up on the preseason list, and then you have some
- 42:21Speaker 3: that show up on the real list as the season
- 42:25Speaker 3: moves on.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Mendoza was that guy last year. Wasn't on the list?
- 42:29Speaker 1: On the list.
- 42:29Speaker 2: And how about this?
- 42:30Speaker 3: Mississippi State now, courtesy of ESPN, FPI, and all the
- 42:35Speaker 3: stuff that they do, The playoff predictor, State has moved
- 42:39Speaker 3: into a 25% chance to make the playoff now. They're
- 42:42Speaker 3: at like less than 1% to start the season. 25%.
- 42:46Speaker 3: If they beat Bama, you can start talking. I mean,
- 42:50Speaker 3: you can at least have the conversation. Well, hey, if X, Y,
- 42:53Speaker 3: and Z fall, they may be in the conversation in
- 42:56Speaker 3: the SEC because some teams are dropping out. Oklahoma, Texas,
- 43:00Speaker 3: A & M, out. They're not going to make the playoff.
- 43:03Speaker 3: And both of those teams made the playoff last year.
- 43:06Speaker 3: So who replaces them? Is State one of those? They've
- 43:08Speaker 3: got to beat Bama this weekend. It's crazy how the
- 43:11Speaker 3: narratives change. Said before the year, for Jeff Levy to survive,
- 43:14Speaker 3: they need to at least go 2-2 or 3-1.
- 43:17Speaker 2: 3-1, more likely 4-0 would be awesome. They've gone 4-0.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Now you've got a quarterback that's getting a little Heisman buzz.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Your team has a 25% chance to make the playoff.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Winning cures a lot of things. Thanks to David Murray.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Thanks to Chris Landry. Appreciate you guys out there in Radioland.
