- 0:18also for us. Of course, the journey that
- 0:19we're on and the lessons, the wisdom that we're gaining as
- 0:22well is second to none. And this today in Charlotte will
- 0:26be another episode, another example as to why this content
- 0:29is so important. So we ask you to keep
- 0:31subscribing, keep supporting and comment below your thoughts on
- 0:34today's episode. We're going to be talking about
- 0:36purpose today and some of the goals we have in our life.
- 0:40What drives our purpose? How do we find who we are truly
- 0:43meant to be if that's preordained or perhaps something
- 0:46that we have control over ourselves as well?
- 0:49And as you can probably tell, I'm not joined by Said Ali,
- 0:52rather we today because unfortunately he's not in town.
- 0:54But I have someone who's just as good as Said Ali and that is
- 0:58none other than my dear brother Muhammad Ali Saw Ali the first
- 1:13time I've done a Co host. Yeah, yeah, I think I've done
- 1:17one with, said Ali. Obviously, I hope this one is
- 1:20just as good. Yeah, and I think this is my
- 1:22first podcast without him. I know he's done a few without
- 1:25me, so And Charlotte will be able to fill his shoes sharply.
- 1:30Bro how you doing? Hams are all good, All good.
- 1:32How's your weekend? Yeah, yeah, it was OK.
- 1:35I mean, today's Thursday. Well, by the time you guys are
- 1:37listening, it's it's Thursday. But yeah, it was good.
- 1:42I'm the lover. So listen, guys, we wanted to
- 1:45bring on someone who we feel is the right person for this topic.
- 1:49And we, we believe we found the right person.
- 1:51This person's flown in for after motherboard, just perhaps by
- 1:55chance happens to be in town. And that's none other than my
- 1:57dear brother, our friend Sadiq Domani.
- 2:00Sanwalekum. Bro.
- 2:01How's it going? Well, good.
- 2:02How are you? OK.
- 2:03I'm the love. I'm the love.
- 2:05I believe you guys know each other from.
- 2:07We go. We go way back, back in the day,
- 2:09We go way back. What's the history there?
- 2:11That's our staff, Marshall, our teacher.
- 2:14That's when a madrasa hasn't got any teachers and you've got an
- 2:17arrogant kid who wants to teach. That's that's all that happened.
- 2:19We all went through that, but we were all students and then we
- 2:22kind of got promoted. And then he had to deal with me
- 2:24just making stuff off on the spot.
- 2:26How was he done? What's the question?
- 2:27No comments. No, no.
- 2:28Honestly, you know, it's, it's weird, right?
- 2:31I I, I actually, I remember when said Zafar Abbas, actually he
- 2:35mentioned to me like, Oh yeah, there's this guy Muhammad Ali,
- 2:38you know, Marshall lies. He's Arabic strong and he's
- 2:40going incineration. I think you're translating stuff
- 2:42in Urdu in English or whatever. I was like, OK, Muhammad Ali
- 2:45could be anyone in the world. There's a good few thousands and
- 2:49he's like, no, no, but he's like guy from Stanwood, you know, You
- 2:51know, then I saw the picture. I was like, what?
- 2:55And part of him was like, maybe I taught him well, but no.
- 2:57It was definitely, I think he was the first teacher in
- 3:00workshop to start like giving us the importance of Arabic.
- 3:04And you gave us these CDs and stuff that he told us to.
- 3:06But I actually, yeah, I remember.
- 3:08Yeah, you did. Actually, the girlfriend do.
- 3:10You know what the impact that you that you leave even I have
- 3:15ex students of mine who listens to the podcast now and they will
- 3:19still come up to me and tell me about lessons we had back in the
- 3:22day and certain discussions we had and Hamdullah now they
- 3:26listen to the podcast. But the impact that that you
- 3:28leave on on kids or students at that age is crazy.
- 3:32You just hope it's a good impact.
- 3:33Yes, the worry, Charlotte, because when you realize how
- 3:35much you didn't know back then. Yeah, the worry.
- 3:37Yeah. Yeah, I wish that.
- 3:39I mean, I was teaching myself at 21 and I think even now I'm I'm
- 3:44nowhere near where I should be. But that was so many years ago,
- 3:47so it's crazy. So listen.
- 3:48For those who don't know, Sadiq is born and raised here in
- 3:52London. He as, as Muhammad Ali said,
- 3:54he's like a teacher to us. I, I live from Sadiq and uni.
- 3:57A few years ago he left the UK and moved to Oman.
- 4:00I hope you don't mind me sharing.
- 4:02And he's been on a journey ever since and Alhamdulillah has come
- 4:05back to the UK to enlighten us and our communities as well.
- 4:09Before we kind of get into the discussion, I want to know for
- 4:12you how it's been there. And I'm going to do this by
- 4:15asking you to name three things you miss about London when
- 4:19you're in Oman, and three things you miss about Oman when you're
- 4:22in London. Wow OK, things that I miss when
- 4:29I'm in Oman about London family for sure.
- 4:35Access to Shia E institutes we have in Armand plenty, don't get
- 4:42me wrong, but I guess the depth of relationships I have with the
- 4:44ones in London is much greater at the moment.
- 4:46Charlotte, that'll improve in Armand.
- 4:49So I think, yeah, I think that's a, that's a big one.
- 4:52That's in the last two weeks I've been back and I'm going
- 4:55back in Charlotte in a couple of days.
- 4:56I'm going to miss that for sure. Another thing I've missed about
- 4:59London. This is where I get exposed
- 5:03because this is a bit difficult for me.
- 5:05What about the food? No, you've got plenty.
- 5:08You've got everything there. I wouldn't say everything, but
- 5:10when you can get Mishkaki for like 40 P, like what's what's
- 5:14the big deal? I think things work here, like
- 5:21logistically things work in Armand.
- 5:24I think in the East, generally something you'd assume to just
- 5:28work like clockwork doesn't. And there'll be a million and
- 5:31one different reasons, like top of the list will be, sorry, the
- 5:33system isn't working today. Now, what does that even mean?
- 5:36Right, whereas here, like it's a lot more dependable.
- 5:39Rules are clear. Rules don't change overnight.
- 5:42Rules don't get regressed after five days.
- 5:44It just I think things just flow.
- 5:46So I think that that is also nice when you're trying to get
- 5:48stuff sorted. And I think when I'm here, what
- 5:50I miss about Roman, wow, I miss the mountains.
- 5:53I think seeing the nature of Allah always is mega Armand is
- 5:58bound by mountains and the sea. So you're constantly seeing
- 6:01both. And that's that's just special.
- 6:04I miss the slowness. I think having, as you said,
- 6:08born and raised here, right, London's quick, really quick.
- 6:13And everyone would tell you, right, you know, meet family in
- 6:15Peterborough and they're like, oh, London's too quick.
- 6:18Like in Peterborough's just slow and not to out people in
- 6:20Peterborough. You know what I mean?
- 6:21Right. And I think then obviously when
- 6:23you leave the UK, people like, wow, it's much slower than than
- 6:26the UK. The UK is very quick.
- 6:27But Armand, it's like you have time.
- 6:30You have time to breathe, you have time to think, you have
- 6:32time to reflect. Whereas here I feel you're just
- 6:34like stuck constantly chasing one, one thing to the next thing
- 6:38to the next thing. 40 minute drive, 30 minute drive, 40
- 6:40minute drive. So I think time is another one.
- 6:44My cop out would also be like the sun.
- 6:46I think like honestly, waking up like with the sun is really
- 6:51special and just always having a bright day.
- 6:54It's gloomy today, man. So you definitely don't miss the
- 6:57weather. No, I woke up so miserable this
- 6:59morning. It's just 'cause it was cloudy
- 7:00like. It's been quite hot here as
- 7:02well, so. Like when I call my parents,
- 7:09like Sally, you know, it's it's 21.
- 7:11It's so hot. I'm like, Dad, it's 7:00 PM,
- 7:12It's 43, but we've doubled you and it's 7:00 PM.
- 7:15Like so I think. I think the sun though.
- 7:17I don't miss the heat, but I miss the sun.
- 7:19Fair enough, fair enough. So good to have you back, I miss
- 7:23you a lot. Also, you got made it happen.
- 7:25Habibi, so listen, I know this is a topic that means a lot to
- 7:29you. Why is this so important to talk
- 7:31about and and do you want to tell us more about what you
- 7:33want, what we want to get into as well?
- 7:35Yeah, sure. So I guess, I guess a bit of
- 7:38context, right, Alhamdin Love, we were brought up in Stanmore,
- 7:43three of us, right. So we had access to a community
- 7:46of a large community which had a variety of opinions from first
- 7:51day. I think obviously we've had
- 7:53friends and acquaintances even in the community over the last
- 7:5730 years or whatever that we've been alive for that you tap
- 8:00into, tap out of, and you realize there are different
- 8:02groups, there are different interests.
- 8:04And then when you get to travel a bit within the UK, different
- 8:08cultures abroad, you start to see patterns.
- 8:13And I think in the recent time I've had the opportunity to
- 8:15visit different communities, the patterns start to become quite
- 8:19consistent. And people say, oh, you're
- 8:22judging people. No, you just see patterns of
- 8:23groups. That's just the nature of it,
- 8:25right? Some people like sports, some
- 8:26people don't like sports. It's not judgement.
- 8:27That's just seeing patterns. And I think the more communities
- 8:31that have had to visit, the more I've seen like a real growing
- 8:34issue. And some of them that I've
- 8:36spoken to have spoken to me about this as well, which is for
- 8:41some reason, this generation see like us and younger, maybe even
- 8:46a bit older, has a gap in their life.
- 8:50And the issue is that gap is massive because this gap, and
- 8:53I'll mention it in a second, is the core reason for why you
- 8:57should exist. And without it, you're lost.
- 9:01But you don't know you're lost. You only find out you're lost
- 9:03until the car crash happens spiritually or physically, and
- 9:07then you have to wake up and go and find it.
- 9:09And that gap, everyone wants to fill it.
- 9:13Capitalists want to fill it. Consumerism, materialism wants
- 9:17to fill it. Religion wants to fill it.
- 9:19Politics wants to fill it. Different ideologies within
- 9:22politics wants to fill it. Everyone is after that gap
- 9:24because if they grab it from you, in essence, it controls
- 9:28you. And not only have we not got
- 9:30people filling that gap, but they actually don't care about
- 9:33filling that gap anymore, which is even more concerning
- 9:36actually. And that gap is purpose.
- 9:38And I think why it's so pertinent is that, and no matter
- 9:44which community I go to and wherever they are in the world,
- 9:47it's consistent, implying that the source of where people fill
- 9:52this purpose is from a consistent place, which back in
- 9:55the day wasn't the case because you were limited to your centre,
- 9:59you're limited to your home, you're limited to your city.
- 10:01Naturally, access to information is through the roof thanks to
- 10:03technology which has good and bad.
- 10:05One of the bad things is that access to the most dominant
- 10:08thing becomes the thing that fills people's purpose.
- 10:11So where you had to travel to get the American Dream, you now
- 10:15get this dream, whatever it is, consumer dream, celebrity dream,
- 10:19influencer dream. I don't know what it is, but you
- 10:21get it constantly and you get it in your house.
- 10:23You don't even have to go and travel for it anymore.
- 10:26And I've seen it's destroyed communities, like destroyed
- 10:29communities and rotting communities.
- 10:32And I think if we solve this issue of what is your purpose,
- 10:36especially when you're in your 20s when massive decisions are
- 10:39flying your way left, right and centre, who you're going to wake
- 10:42up to every morning, big decision, what kind of job are
- 10:46you going to get into? Big decision, Where are you
- 10:49going to live when you leave your family home, for example,
- 10:51big decision, so on and so on and so on.
- 10:54If that purpose isn't in place properly prior to those
- 10:57decisions, you're going to have a massive U-turn.
- 11:00So you need. To so you specifically mean
- 11:02individual purpose. Individual purpose which
- 11:04contributes to collective purpose, which collects, yeah,
- 11:07societal purpose and so on, so. I I was speaking to to Muhammad
- 11:10Ali earlier and the question which I I mentioned to him on
- 11:13the phone is, are we not a given purpose by Allah?
- 11:19In the Holy Quran he says I've created managing except nothing
- 11:23except but to worship me and beyond that as well.
- 11:27Does that mean that purpose is preordained by Allah?
- 11:30Is it set in stone or is it something which is determined by
- 11:33us? Do life events shape purpose or
- 11:36does our purpose shape our life events?
- 11:38These are questions that I have and and beyond that as well.
- 11:40Just one more level or layer to add before I give it to you is
- 11:45in terms of us being followers of the Ahlebeta Hema Salaam.
- 11:48Following the Holy of Quran is our purpose as individuals and
- 11:52as a collective different to everyone else's.
- 11:55Yeah. Just what I mean.
- 11:57Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anything to add?
- 11:58Yeah. I think when we look at like,
- 12:00the creation of the human being, it's clear that Allah does have
- 12:04a purpose for us. Yeah.
- 12:05And it's clear that He's given us the free will to go and try
- 12:07and find and fulfill that purpose.
- 12:09Obviously if we choose to do that, one not is our own choice
- 12:13and our own kind of prerogative. In terms of us having the same
- 12:17purpose as as creation, I would argue from what I understand
- 12:21that all of creation does have one purpose.
- 12:24It all goes towards top. Heed all towards Allah, but what
- 12:28that means and what are the mechanisms to get to that are
- 12:31obviously what people will disagree about.
- 12:33Regardless of which religion we're in, regards of which sect
- 12:36you're in, Even within the sect, there will be different ideas
- 12:38about how we actually reach that.
- 12:40So heed and how do we reach that godless, that God God centrism,
- 12:46right? And yeah, I think that is even
- 12:49reflected with regards to non living beings.
- 12:52When Allah speaks about non living beings in the Quran, he
- 12:55speaks about them making to spear towards him, right?
- 12:57So all of the creations and everything is going towards that
- 13:01specific centric point, which is God.
- 13:04The question is how right and that's basically.
- 13:08But I'm, I'm not even at all concerned with how I'm concerned
- 13:13with people realizing this is the purpose.
- 13:16That's alright. That's what I'm worried about.
- 13:18Yeah. I think the how is, is dare I
- 13:21say the easier part because there's a like Islam, like, OK.
- 13:27But prior to that is people being stuck and like feeling
- 13:31stagnant and not knowing why they feel stagnant.
- 13:34And then, you know, typically, let me, let me, let me let's
- 13:37like make this a bit more like practical.
- 13:39Yeah, I'll go to different people and, and they'll, they'll
- 13:42say like you and they'll usually start with their problem, OK,
- 13:45which is like, oh, you know, I'm praying and I'm just not feeling
- 13:47it. That's a standard one, right?
- 13:48And you're like, great. It's, it's good that you're
- 13:50praying. It's still a positive.
- 13:51Or they'll be like, you know, I go to most democracy and I just
- 13:54same thing every year. They always start with this kind
- 13:56of problem or it could be much more extreme.
- 13:58And it will be like, you know, I'm feeling super depressed.
- 14:00I'm feeling very anxious, feeling very nervous.
- 14:04I'm worried about how people perceive me and how they judge
- 14:06me and whatever you're like, OK, what's what's actually beneath
- 14:09this? And once you crank it down,
- 14:11crank it down, crank it down, a lot of them will be like, OK, so
- 14:14to solve this, I'm trying to read like books to get me down.
- 14:17OK, tell me what books you're reading.
- 14:19And suddenly I'm like, I'm filled with hope.
- 14:20Maybe we're going in a good direction.
- 14:22They're like, there's like this Rohit Sharma guy.
- 14:25I'm like, you mean the monk. OK, fine.
- 14:29Or like not so monk guy. I don't know what he is anymore.
- 14:32And they start listing you off all of these self help books.
- 14:34I'm like, OK, so my hypothesis is that you've got a lack of
- 14:39purpose, OK? Because if your purpose is
- 14:41solid, you're not going to worry about a lot of these things, and
- 14:43a lot of those things will be in much better place.
- 14:45So my hypothesis is that you've got a lack of purpose, OK?
- 14:49You're telling me that you're reading books about how to help
- 14:53yourself written by individuals who don't believe in a creator,
- 15:00which is actually the whole purpose of your creation.
- 15:04That's never going to reconcile. So you're going to have like
- 15:07this. Nice ten week period where you
- 15:11followed this guy's mantra reflect and whatever Islamic
- 15:15concepts, no doubt, but without, as you said, God centricity at
- 15:19the core of it, just like nice exercises.
- 15:23You know, it's the standard argument.
- 15:24Then we're like, oh, you know, we do Salaam, but you know, it's
- 15:26good to also do these bodily movements.
- 15:27I'll just do yoga instead. And it's reflection, right?
- 15:29There's an interesting Salaam and yoga and a big part of it is
- 15:32what's at the core of this thing, right.
- 15:34And I think that that's my worry that I see people stuck at this
- 15:37early stage. And I think I don't know about
- 15:38you guys. I was stuck there, man, when
- 15:40when I was younger. You know, you make every mistake
- 15:44under the sun, but you're going to mosque every week.
- 15:47You know, we're working the ELC every week and we're, we're,
- 15:49we're, we're hours at mosque is amazing.
- 15:52I count. But we're just a bit like, OK,
- 15:55what's this doing? I think a big moment for people
- 15:58in their 20s. And that's what I really wanted
- 15:59to focus on, right? Because 20 is when you make
- 16:01those big decisions. And a big telling moment is
- 16:04number one, do you even want to get married?
- 16:06Which in recent time, the interest in marriage has
- 16:09regressed massively. I remember being sat with the
- 16:12community. I was about 20 guys and that's
- 16:14usually my icebreaker just to get them going.
- 16:16But how many if you want to get married, 0 first time ever 0
- 16:21usually you'd expect a handful, right?
- 16:23Because everyone's some people have higher a bit shy, whatever.
- 16:26Zero. I was like, why like this?
- 16:30I wasn't expecting this to be like, I wasn't ready for this
- 16:33part of the discussion, right. So you think what's what's
- 16:36happening here? What's the gap?
- 16:39Where's the lack of purpose? So that's if you don't want to
- 16:41get, you know, hopefully they do want to get married.
- 16:43If they do want to get married, a great moment to see if they've
- 16:45got a good purpose or not within them and within ourselves is who
- 16:49do you want to marry? Tell me the values of that
- 16:51person. And then they're like he like,
- 16:55no, write it down. No, no, I know.
- 16:57Write it down. Like genuinely get a pen.
- 16:59And anyone that asks me for help on this, I'm like write it down
- 17:02and then write down who you are that that journey scares people.
- 17:06I think that, I think that's what you're saying there is like
- 17:09it's a good litmus test because even for those of us, and I
- 17:13speak for myself first and foremost, that may even have
- 17:17read a little bit about Sohid, try and understand Sohid on a
- 17:20theoretical level. The question is in our
- 17:24day-to-day lives, like when I'm, for example, working my job
- 17:27while I'm doing this data analysis, or as I'm doing all of
- 17:30the things that I do in my day, is it actually that I've got God
- 17:36on my mind while I'm doing it? Or is it that it's only in that
- 17:39moment where it's now solar time that I'm like, OK, cool.
- 17:42I need to put work to the side and focus on God rather than go
- 17:47from focusing on God to focusing on God, which is how it should
- 17:51be, right? So that that kind of
- 17:53categorization of purpose in your day, I think that's a great
- 17:56litmus test when you're thinking about marriage, are you thinking
- 17:59of marriage as something that is a practical thing that is
- 18:02separate from religion and my relationship with God?
- 18:05Or are you thinking of this as something as this is part of my
- 18:08relationship? As part of half of your
- 18:10religion. Yeah, exactly.
- 18:12Exactly. Right.
- 18:13And I say it's an amazing litmus test.
- 18:17And I think when I, when I see, you know, if, if you go for like
- 18:20typical person's journey, right, 18 to 21 uni or some kind of
- 18:24like education, perhaps going on or first steps into the working
- 18:27world, there's some degree of like, OK, how godly is your
- 18:31choice in your job? Maybe just like things that are
- 18:35Haram get emitted. But that's not probably the
- 18:37biggest litmus test, right? But it's a big moment
- 18:39nonetheless. But what is a big moment is
- 18:41you've just started your career. What do you do on Thursday
- 18:44nights when everyone goes out to the pub?
- 18:46What are you going to, what are you going to do in this moment?
- 18:48That's a decent limit test, right?
- 18:50Then you start talking about marriage.
- 18:51We've just seen that and the impact of the wrong decision
- 18:55there. So a decision that you make
- 18:56about marriage that is not filled with the correct purpose,
- 19:01it's going to stop you from finding your purpose.
- 19:05It's very rare that people are able to then with their spouse
- 19:08who also doesn't think that Torrid and Korba tended Allah is
- 19:12at the core of what they need to do for them to realize it later
- 19:15down the path, right? What's probably going to happen
- 19:17is one of them realizes it, the other one doesn't.
- 19:20And there's a challenge that's a tough U-turn.
- 19:23And you make that decision when you're in your late teens, early
- 19:2720s, which is scary. Like it's, it's, I guess by
- 19:35Islamic standards, you're well equipped to make this decision
- 19:38by this age, you're both. But by modern day standards, the
- 19:4418/19/2021 year old is baffled. Is doesn't know what's going on
- 19:49Half the time. I'm like, that was us at some
- 19:53point, but how can we stop that from happening right?
- 19:56Then you look at where you choose to live and which do you
- 19:59attend Majalis? Do you not attend Majalis?
- 20:00Do you set when you have a child?
- 20:03I'm going to, I'm going to say it.
- 20:04What do you name your child? So people were just talking
- 20:07about it, right? What do you name your child?
- 20:10That's another litmus test. Where are you at?
- 20:12And the scary thing is, for example, when you name your
- 20:14child, you look at the rights of the child and even the rights of
- 20:19the father. 1 of it is that you give your child a good name.
- 20:22OK, we've, we've turned names into a joke.
- 20:27Now you know let's be creative rather than godly lack of
- 20:32purpose, right? Kind of scaling back a bit,
- 20:36because obviously I, I, I appreciate that we, we have
- 20:39listeners of different ages, of all ages.
- 20:41So we've got those who are approaching their 20s, those in
- 20:44the middle, in their 20s now, you know, in the thick of it.
- 20:47And then obviously those who have passed that stage as well.
- 20:49So people at different stages will feel aimlessness,
- 20:54purposelessness, that kind of directionless sludge in their
- 21:02life. Yeah.
- 21:02You know, I, I don't know what I'm doing.
- 21:04I get up, I go to work, I come home, I eat my dinner, I go to
- 21:07bed in the middle of slot Salah here and there when I have a
- 21:10chance. Because obviously not everyone
- 21:12is at the same level of practice, sure, as each other.
- 21:16But the point being is that there's definitely a mental
- 21:19health element to this. And I think that there's there
- 21:22has to be a correlation between how we feel mentally and
- 21:26physically and obviously our spiritual health at the same
- 21:28time as well. I know for men at least, we
- 21:31definitely struggle with purpose.
- 21:34And I think society contributes to that because we have a lot of
- 21:37pressure. This is obviously why the red
- 21:39pill movement is just booming because of the fact that there's
- 21:42the expectations on men are so high, so high.
- 21:46So there's the expectation to provide.
- 21:48There's the expectation to be physically fit, to be a leader,
- 21:51to be masculine, whatever the Western standards or western
- 21:54definition of masculinity means the expectation to be a hard man
- 21:58and to talk tough and look tough and and all of that stuff.
- 22:02Drive a certain car and have a certain facade on social media.
- 22:05And then obviously on on the flip side, we are perhaps raised
- 22:09as children of a generation of people who have had to learn
- 22:13things the hard way, many of which were immigrants themselves
- 22:18and and had to learn kind of by getting their hands dirty and
- 22:21getting stuck in. So all of that has contributed
- 22:24towards a big conflict inside, especially for men, in my
- 22:28opinion, where we're trying to identify where to go from here.
- 22:33And at some point in our lives, and we may be so deep into it
- 22:37where we don't know what we're doing and we're just kind of
- 22:40hoping tomorrow goes OK. We may be in our late 20s like I
- 22:44am, or we may be way past that in our 30s or 40s or whatnot.
- 22:48And realize that that stage, like up until now, everything
- 22:52I've done has purely been by the grace of the last planet Isla,
- 22:56and nothing else, the mercy of God.
- 22:58I haven't had an active purpose in my day today and I haven't
- 23:02had something which is basically a guiding light for me in terms
- 23:06of the way I act. The question I have is
- 23:09specifically in terms of the purpose.
- 23:12Is that a purpose which is like you, you mentioned earlier about
- 23:15writing down, Is that something which is literally visible,
- 23:18written, concrete, something I'm looking at, I'm actively working
- 23:21towards? How do I get to the stage where
- 23:23I know that this is the right purpose to have?
- 23:27Can I refine it? Do I refine it as years go by
- 23:29and I'll keep going on, But if things happen in my life, So for
- 23:32example, you've moved country, does that refine your purpose?
- 23:35If someone in your life passes away, if you have kids who enter
- 23:39the picture, if you go through financial loss or financial
- 23:41gain, how does that affect your your purpose?
- 23:45I think something you just touched on and I'll and I'll
- 23:48come to your point was someone without purpose who has still
- 23:51had all of these achievements inverted commas is just through
- 23:55the vodka for last final time. And they've not even
- 23:57acknowledged him. And that's that's unbelievable
- 23:59when you think about it. Like a lot's kept you going for
- 24:02the last 30 years. You've not even realized what
- 24:05this was all about. And he's still giving you more
- 24:08fuel in the tank just from his baraka.
- 24:10You haven't done anything to get closer to him.
- 24:12It's incredible how merciful it was and how much of a chance he
- 24:16gives us. Yeah.
- 24:17It's having this whole narrative that like he's ready to take you
- 24:20down is very, very, you know, naive.
- 24:22But look, our opinion matters for nothing, right?
- 24:27What matters is is what says in Quran and and and and the hadith
- 24:30of that is basically him. Salam Hamdulilli mentioned you
- 24:33mentioned you haven't I haven't created Jin and man, except that
- 24:38they let me worship me be in a constant state of or Bodhi.
- 24:42It's in like the present tense, which and it's a verb.
- 24:44It's it's time, it's movement, right.
- 24:46Muhammad, you said the verse, I think sort of everything in this
- 24:52world, all of the creation is doing to spear for last panel to
- 24:57Allah. So the Quran is quite clear like
- 24:58in terms of purpose. It's about this glorification
- 25:02and orbudi of a last panel to Allah to look at hadith first
- 25:07narration of al kafi. Should I put you on the spot?
- 25:12About Apple, right? Go on.
- 25:13I can't. I can't remember.
- 25:15Come on bro, I can't. Remember, this is your.
- 25:17We should cut it and come back and then you can.
- 25:19Oh yeah, I remember. It Yeah, yeah, no, the fire, Jay
- 25:21inside the fire. I'm just pitching for this.
- 25:24That was all the creation of yes, exactly.
- 25:27I can't. Remember the exact wording, but
- 25:29there's a few narrations in the chapter.
- 25:31And they they do get repeated. Yeah.
- 25:32It's beautiful, though. Yeah.
- 25:34And I really like I think this is where we need to be
- 25:36encouraging album and sisters like get into the words of Al
- 25:40Muhammad. It's it's not just a side thing,
- 25:44it's an essential thing. First narration.
- 25:47And he discusses this exactly thing, this exact thing.
- 25:52Let me take a step back, right? What separates man from anything
- 25:55else in creation of Allah? What makes man greater than the
- 25:57mountain? It's Aklad.
- 25:58We all know that it's the one thing that differentiates us
- 26:00from angels to anything else. It's Aklad fine.
- 26:03Aklad is the USP clear. What is the purpose of Aklad?
- 26:08Now you can either go to some random guy and ask for his
- 26:11opinion, get some opinion, or you go to the creator of the
- 26:15apple himself. A last one, Tyler Fine, go to
- 26:18his one of his great divine leaders.
- 26:20He then tells us, and I'm just going to paraphrase it, Allah
- 26:23let's the Athen speak and then he tells Athen go forward.
- 26:28What does the apple do? Goes forward, tells the apple
- 26:32come back. What does the apple do?
- 26:34Goes back and then also a last round Isla Basie says I've not
- 26:39created something more beloved to me than this, and I'm going
- 26:42to perfect it in those whom I love.
- 26:46Like what is Rasul Allah without his Athol, right?
- 26:49That is, that is Rasul Allah, right?
- 26:51That's everything captured there, right?
- 26:55And then he goes on to say this Athol.
- 26:57And again, I'm paraphrasing. I'm going to reward it when it
- 27:00obeys me, and I'm going to hold it to account when it disobeys
- 27:04me. The point is clear.
- 27:06The imagery is clear. Athle, go forward, goes forward.
- 27:08Athle, come back, goes back. What's the whole point of this?
- 27:11Your USP, your whole essence of creation is to obey.
- 27:16Your last panel, Tyler, that is your USP.
- 27:18The moment man goes, you know what?
- 27:21I'm going to disobey Allah. You've lost, your business is
- 27:25over, your USP is finished, Amazon doesn't have same day
- 27:28delivery anymore, it's done right, you've got no stock,
- 27:30what's the point? Amazon goes from being something
- 27:32to nothing. Man goes to nothing and gets
- 27:35humbled by the mountain as soon as it disobeys.
- 27:38On last parameter it's clear cut.
- 27:41So the purpose remains constant regardless of context,
- 27:46regardless of decision, regardless of situation.
- 27:49Your prime element is to go, how do I keep my intellect, which is
- 27:54what differentiates me to always obey Allah and always stay away
- 27:59from that which he prohibits. Simple.
- 28:03And actually, when you then go back and think, you know, OK,
- 28:06let's say after mother, I'm going to pick on you guys for a
- 28:08bit, right? Let's say you guys were doing
- 28:11this podcast horror button to your own soul, right?
- 28:15It's all about me, all about Ahmed, all about Ali Ali Wassen,
- 28:19all about Mahmed, right? I don't know, you guys aren't
- 28:21doing much greater purpose behind it, right?
- 28:24But I think we've all been there.
- 28:25We've all had projects that we thought were religious and kind
- 28:28and we were doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it.
- 28:30And you're like, this is a bit it's a bit aimless at some
- 28:34point, right? You got the hype, you got the
- 28:35followers, you got the invite, you got the this, you know, all
- 28:39right, that's, that's basically it, right?
- 28:40Similar to career, right? You get the salary rise, salary
- 28:43rise, salary rise, OK, You get the house, the bigger house,
- 28:45whatever, even whatever, you get engaged.
- 28:48And back in hour, there was Facebook likes, right?
- 28:50That was that was, that was that was the, that was the you got
- 28:54rankings, you know, that was the ranking.
- 28:56You get engaged, you know, OK, say, if all the likes have come
- 29:00now what? And if you're devoid of that
- 29:04purpose, it's nothing. It literally just folds in days,
- 29:09right? Yeah.
- 29:10You then have those parts by Shekhar Basu Khan, me with with
- 29:14his books without a genuine, if I'm not mistaken.
- 29:16It's like no one knows that it was him that was behind it.
- 29:18Like he wanted to keep it secret, secret, secret, secret
- 29:21secrets. Just me and a lot me and a lot
- 29:22me and a lot me and a lot. The amount of purpose in that
- 29:26kind of context is night and day, right?
- 29:30One sentence that you write that may inspire someone that no one
- 29:34knows it was you. It could be way better than 1000
- 29:38majorities that you give that you've plastered your name.
- 29:40Can I ask you if you don't mind, sorry to interrupt, but because
- 29:44you've referenced obviously a lot of amazing books, different
- 29:47scholars versus the Holy Quran. And we know there's a wealth of
- 29:51knowledge out there. But for someone out there who's
- 29:53reading self help books or listening to podcasts, not like
- 29:57after muggle, but something which is, you know, the secular
- 30:00maybe. Or, you know, there's a lot of,
- 30:01like you said, these kind of new era, like woke, you know,
- 30:07liberal podcast or whatever, where, you know, people are
- 30:10doing different things, dieting and yoga and all that stuff to
- 30:13try and find a higher purpose. You know, that's the thing,
- 30:16right? And I, I had that face as well.
- 30:17I remember I was probably 18 and Russell Brand, I don't know if
- 30:21you remember at that time. Yeah, he was on that.
- 30:24He was he was on a weird. It came out from nowhere.
- 30:27Yeah, yeah. It came out from nowhere and he
- 30:29was on a on a wave and I loved it.
- 30:30I was all for it at the time. So I felt empowered by that.
- 30:34And then I realized after 2-3 months, So what am I listed to
- 30:38just like complete random vocabulary and just all sorts
- 30:42his? Vocab is good.
- 30:43Yeah, it's very good. Yeah.
- 30:45I wish I paid a bit more attention to that, to be honest.
- 30:47But but what I will say is that there are people who are are are
- 30:51saying, well, look, at least I'm trying.
- 30:52I'm following something. I listen to for example, some of
- 30:55myself, I listen to an audio book to help me in my business,
- 30:59Dale Carnegie, How to win Friends and Influence People,
- 31:01Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow rich.
- 31:02These are self help books obviously for business, granted.
- 31:07But is there a, is there not a benefit in that?
- 31:09And B is OK, fine if I'm not listening to that.
- 31:11And if Sonic tells me don't listen to that, is there an
- 31:14equivalent? Equivalent, sure.
- 31:16OK, nice. So let's go a little bit
- 31:18businessy for a second. So I like the fact you brought
- 31:19that up, right. Simon Sinek is one of the big
- 31:23guys in that in that game, in the business game.
- 31:27I found this super ironic because during my like journey
- 31:29of trying to reestablish my purpose and, and, and it almost
- 31:33like not even intentionally doing it, just kind of through
- 31:36reading and whatever. And that's probably one of the
- 31:38points I mentioned later about what we need to do more of.
- 31:41I tell our Hate's book on principles of faith was the game
- 31:44changer. Like hands down, if, if, if at
- 31:48all, a last round tile that allows me to enter heaven.
- 31:50Like I tell our hate is to credit because that is the game
- 31:54changer and it's anyone listening to this now principles
- 31:57of faith and just put Khorasani or Waheed.
- 32:00You'll come up on Ed Islam and it'll come up on his PDF on his
- 32:03site. Read it with friends you and
- 32:05don't don't read it with like a forgive me for saying it a lame.
- 32:10I'm reading religion and that's it.
- 32:11Mind read it with the lens that you're reading one of your
- 32:14university textbooks. I put your brain to it.
- 32:16That's that's actually put the level of engagement we put to
- 32:19our academics to something more important than our academics,
- 32:22which is our life right. The way he does this each us all
- 32:27intellectual proof, Quran proof, Hadith proof next and repeats
- 32:32the site, It's unbelievable. It's like 200 pages.
- 32:35OK, but go through it page by page.
- 32:37Anyway, come back to Simon Sinek, right?
- 32:39So whilst I was like going through this, like figuring out
- 32:41thinking whatever, a few years later I came across his one of
- 32:44his books called the infinite Game.
- 32:47And the idea is, is that when you build a business, you
- 32:50shouldn't have a short term goal in mind.
- 32:53It shouldn't just be profit driven.
- 32:56It needs to be something greater, which he described as
- 32:59value driven, which he described as the infinite game.
- 33:01So you've got to find your business's infinite game.
- 33:04And sure, I'm sure he's just chosen that as a title for it to
- 33:06like catch. But just for a moment, let's
- 33:08just say intellectually look at it, right?
- 33:11Infinity. In essence, as soon as you have
- 33:14two infinite things, they're both limited, right?
- 33:17That's one of the arguments we have in Tohid, right?
- 33:19Proof Tohid, if you have two of them, there's no nothing
- 33:22infinite. So when he's saying go and find
- 33:24your company's infinite game, he's actually contradicting his
- 33:29entire theory because No2 businesses can have an infinite
- 33:34goal, but there's actually a lot of value in its title.
- 33:38The infinite game. It implies singularity.
- 33:41If you don't read the book, it implies singularity.
- 33:43There can only be one infinite thing.
- 33:46Make your business focused on a lot.
- 33:49That's the infinite game. It's not improving healthcare.
- 33:51That's great, but it's finite, right?
- 33:54It's not about stopping war. It's great, but it's finite.
- 33:57The only infinite thing that can exist is a lost finanality.
- 34:00Even in business, you create your business with the mindset
- 34:04of what about turn it a lot and you've made it an infinite game.
- 34:07Now the wave and for example, when you get your first
- 34:09management position and maybe again, listeners are in their
- 34:12like mid 20s, late 20s, right? And maybe in and around there,
- 34:15they will become a manager at some point.
- 34:17Your subordinates, there's not really a nicer word to call
- 34:20them. That's what's funny.
- 34:20This is why I haven't found a nicer word.
- 34:22Your subordinate, the person that works with you that you're
- 34:24managing is going to mess up at some point.
- 34:26They're going to trash an e-mail to a client and cause massive
- 34:29issues. That's your moment to test your
- 34:31bottle. What is my purpose?
- 34:33How am I going to react in that moment?
- 34:35That's that's your moment to go. Infinite game.
- 34:37Let's go. You can win a client if you lie
- 34:40to them. OK, time to do it.
- 34:41You can snake someone to get the client time to go.
- 34:43Let's see how you do this, right.
- 34:45Your friends just turned up to be hired for a position and
- 34:48you've got someone way better qualified.
- 34:49Who are you going to go for infinite game time?
- 34:51This is infinite game, right? And I think we've we've kind of
- 34:55just gone. Let me take all of these books
- 34:58and podcasts which which have valuable things.
- 35:02I'm not denying they have valuable things, but devoid off
- 35:06the infinite game, devoid of devoid of Yousef is finite, is
- 35:15aimless and it's going to crumble at some point and it's
- 35:18as simple as that, right? So then we've got to go, OK, how
- 35:23can I find these self help arenas that are safe and Tahiti?
- 35:28Sure, you can find have a Tahiti court and then go read these
- 35:31things and come back to it. I'm like, dude, it's not like
- 35:35Allah left you in the lurch without leaders that know how to
- 35:41perfect themselves and therefore yourselves, right?
- 35:45And so it's a drama, The Prophet's told that, of this
- 35:47concept of teskia, right? It's purification and betterment
- 35:51of the soul. We have hadith telling us that
- 35:54if you don't do self reflection at the end of each tale, you're
- 35:57not even from among us. Do we know how much exists of
- 36:02self help, genuine self help and IE.
- 36:05And let me now challenge it a little bit more.
- 36:08If you look at Rasala's first rasala of Imam Sajad is the
- 36:13herkuk of Allah, then it's the herkuk of the self.
- 36:17The one of Allah is that he. The first sign is what about you
- 36:19worship Allah is that he is to be worshipped.
- 36:21Sorry. And the whole goal of the self
- 36:24is that you use your entire self to worship Allah.
- 36:26Subhanaw ta'ala, there's no self.
- 36:28So the concept of self help is not an Islamic principle because
- 36:31there's no self. You're completely absorbed into
- 36:34our last panel. Ta'ala.
- 36:35If there was a concept of the self, then I asked the question
- 36:39in Ziara ta'ala, why is the first line not as Salaam Alaiki
- 36:42Ahmarpasen? What's the title we give him in
- 36:45that first line? In the most honorific Ziara of
- 36:48Salaam, he's an Abdif Allah, he has no identity.
- 36:52He's completely absorbed in Allah.
- 36:53There's no self in that. When you go towards them, what
- 36:56did they say? Labakia, Dari Allah callers unto
- 36:59Allah. They don't want an identity.
- 37:02They're they're nothing without a last panel to under.
- 37:06So this and then this is when when I gripe on self help ends.
- 37:08By the way, I did tell you guys I'm going to probably go on a
- 37:10run at some point. Self help as a concept is
- 37:16already anti Tahiti in its name. It should be nearness to Allah.
- 37:22Identify yourself as Allah creatively.
- 37:25That's where you humble and ground yourself completely.
- 37:29Because the intellect was told obey, it obeyed.
- 37:33That's all you're doing. And I think when you have that,
- 37:36the crux and you then got to rewrite what kind of person am I
- 37:39looking for for marriage? And then what kind of person am
- 37:42I today? It's going to look very
- 37:45different. So before you have this as the
- 37:47core of your purpose, otherwise you'll be like, yeah, you know,
- 37:49Ahmed, find me, you know, find me a woman that's like, nice and
- 37:53kind and, you know, be good to my parents.
- 37:55You know, this is all nonsense. Without a law, even the rights
- 37:59of the parent is dependent on the rights of Allah being
- 38:01fulfilled. It's a completely different
- 38:04view. I really liked what you said and
- 38:07how you linked this to intellect.
- 38:09Even when you look at some of the other hadith with regards to
- 38:12apple, apple is always referred to as a norb, as a light that is
- 38:16gifted to the believer. Apple is defined in one of the
- 38:20narrations, it says an Akulu Mayo Abedobi Rahman.
- 38:23The intellect by definition is the medium through which you
- 38:28worship a last panel to Allah. And the opposite of that is not
- 38:32worshipping or going away from a last panel to Allah.
- 38:34And another important thing, or I wanted to reiterate something
- 38:37you mentioned is, is very, very important that when we're
- 38:41thinking about religion, unfortunately in the Western
- 38:43world, we might go on to do amazing stuff in our academics.
- 38:47We might get to masters level, PhD level, become a professor,
- 38:52and still somehow think that now religion is out of my reach.
- 38:57Yeah, I'm gonna leave it to the scholars.
- 38:59And so on and so forth. That's very.
- 39:01True to to go and look into, but you're a professor.
- 39:04You're you're you're somebody that's gone into the depths of
- 39:07physics and rocket science. You don't even have to be that
- 39:10like, like Sonic said, you can be in a junior level management
- 39:13position. We don't apply.
- 39:15We don't apply that the the skills that we use in our
- 39:18vocational world. Yeah, to to God and Religion
- 39:20100. Percent and then the and then.
- 39:22The carrot and stick thing, like we don't, we don't apply that to
- 39:25ourselves. And then on top of that, the way
- 39:27that intellect is thought of even in the modern world and in
- 39:30terms of business, when we think about intellect, it's about or
- 39:34even in a business, in in a business context, people will
- 39:37think, how can I get to the next position?
- 39:40Do I do that by snaking this guy?
- 39:43Do I do that by taking the dominant role in this position
- 39:47or showing that guy down or, And that all fundamentally goes
- 39:51against the definition of intellect that is given to us by
- 39:53Al Bait. And on top of that, we have
- 39:55narrations like Sadat said. I had I seen a book, I think it
- 39:58was by. If I'm not mistaken it's by.
- 40:01I told Rey Shahry and he wrote about Economics and Business and
- 40:06stuff like some generations of the albeit.
- 40:08And there's another book I had about morals and conduct, just
- 40:12narrations of I think it was Imam Ali Ali Salaam.
- 40:15And the whole book is just about morals and conduct.
- 40:18It's about there's a narrations about how to do business, how to
- 40:21be in a work environment, how to be like, how, how should your
- 40:25morals be in life? Like there's a whole, there's
- 40:27literally a whole guide. Like it's like, here it is.
- 40:30Just take it from me. Like the mom's literally telling
- 40:32you, I've told you it all come and take it from me.
- 40:35And instead of reading that, you've gone to be like, you know
- 40:38what? My friend is listening to this
- 40:40podcast and he's a big businessman.
- 40:43So now if I listen to that, I'm going to be like my friend
- 40:46instead of and Mama Ali was the most successful worshipper ever,
- 40:50can I? Can I just add, can I just add
- 40:52this? I know you want to mention
- 40:53something, but I'm also very curious to know and I don't want
- 40:56to go on a tangent what you feel about the LinkedIn world, just
- 41:01what I mean. So the reason why I say this is
- 41:03especially when you say like, it just came to my mind when you
- 41:05said like, my friend listens to this and he's successful.
- 41:08So maybe I should follow that metric, but do you know, there's
- 41:10like it just I was on LinkedIn today because someone messaged
- 41:13me and I, I saw it. So, but I was like, it just
- 41:16drives me insane. The ChatGPT nature of how humans
- 41:21have liked just so repetitive lying, lying, full stop lying,
- 41:24full stop emoji, lying, full stop selfie like, you know, and
- 41:28everything become I bought coffee today.
- 41:30Here's what I learned about dealing with people over there.
- 41:33It's just too much. And that kind of thing is it's,
- 41:36it's becoming cheesy and it's become, like you said, devoid of
- 41:39God. And we have a very unique
- 41:42position. I've always known you of course
- 41:43side because we've, we've been with each other since since like
- 41:46uni days or whatnot. Earlier we were studying
- 41:49business and economics and stuff at the same time in the same
- 41:51place. And not not the same place.
- 41:53Say that again, not the same. Place, yeah, but we we do.
- 41:58You know what bro? We've I'm never going to let you
- 42:00go. We've we've, we've, we've
- 42:03basically been on a bit of a journey like in, in the same
- 42:07generation. I've always been fascinated how
- 42:10you've been able to advance in your professional career
- 42:13Mashallah, but also be able to work on your family, your soul,
- 42:16your community at the same time. I'm the sorry, I don't know what
- 42:24to say. You know, when it clicks, it
- 42:32clicks. And I was actually speaking to a
- 42:37mutual friend of ours the other day at Jumha, Sorry, not Jumha,
- 42:41IMA has some shahada just the other day.
- 42:45And he said this far shazar like this, This measures what I'm
- 42:49saying, Ali Salaam, no matter if you go this way, that way, this
- 42:53way, that way, this way, that way, up, down, up, down, up,
- 42:55even if you ascend like mad and will or will our regress that
- 42:59much less if Allah has given you that baraka, we'll always be
- 43:02there and we land back on it. I think I'll have that our
- 43:05parents. I know your mum, especially the
- 43:08mum, My Lum, she was she. Was.
- 43:10That's the chief, right? I just remember her constantly
- 43:13trying to teach me or do I was like Auntie, it's not going to
- 43:15happen. Did it have happened?
- 43:17Absolutely not. But that wasn't on her fault.
- 43:19That was all me being some coconut guy, you know, we all
- 43:21know it's true. So, but I think our parents
- 43:24pushing us back there, no matter what bad we did privately,
- 43:28publicly grounds us. And I think what's really sad is
- 43:35that without having the actual understanding from our Hussein
- 43:41Ali Salaam and the end of it Ali Salaam, those majalis can be
- 43:45nothing for us. Yeah.
- 43:48But we were lucky enough to be surrounded by good guys, you
- 43:50know, that we could look up to who'd be like, since I like, I
- 43:54know what you're doing on the side.
- 43:55We need to get that sorted. You know what?
- 43:56You know what that post you just put up, Let's take it down.
- 43:59It's not the right thing. We actually had like, social
- 44:02police, not least your brother to me, my brother to you.
- 44:06I don't know that we we had like the brothers would would help
- 44:09you. Yeah.
- 44:10And keep those red lines even US 2, right.
- 44:12We had a conversation about it. Ali Abbas Habib in our class as
- 44:16well, right. You you grow up and you look out
- 44:18for each other. What am I trying to get out
- 44:19here? I'm trying to say that it's all
- 44:22well and good attending these majalis and hoping it's going to
- 44:26help you, but if you're attending majalis of where?
- 44:31Where the where? What's being shared is not
- 44:35actually what Imam Hussein Ali Salaam stood for.
- 44:38Said. You're stuck and you won't be
- 44:40able to balance your professional life, your personal
- 44:43life, your family life, your parents life, so on and so on.
- 44:46You won't get the answer. You'll be like, but I'm
- 44:48listening to this lecturer, but nothing's happening.
- 44:53I'm like, was that his opinion or was that the opinion of
- 44:56Allah? And are they enacting it?
- 45:00Because if they're not, you're going to get a limited sample of
- 45:02it as well. And Alhamdad, I think we were
- 45:05blessed to have individuals who were, in their talk and action,
- 45:09completely aligned. And this was, you know, I said
- 45:12at the beginning about London having access to these guys.
- 45:14These are relationships over like 20 years, right?
- 45:17Where they've looked out for you and you get to spend time and
- 45:19they get to guide you. I think that's the thing that
- 45:22changes US. One book in particular that like
- 45:25followed by principles of faith. That was very theoretical, but I
- 45:29was like, and I didn't know this concept was self help at the
- 45:32time. But I always had these questions
- 45:33like, OK, if the EMA Ali Muslim are here to show us a perfect
- 45:37way of living as per the teachers of Rasul Allah, let me
- 45:40see it. Where can I see it?
- 45:43Which then made me realize oh OK Hadith is a thing.
- 45:46Okay so now side point, those who are trying to cut off or
- 45:50deprioritize the necessity of hadith from our community are
- 45:54taking away oxygen from our community as well right?
- 45:57It's nonsensical when a last parameter Allah flips it in the
- 46:00Quran and says if you obey the profit, you've obeyed me.
- 46:05How do you obey the Prophet? You need to see what he said.
- 46:07How do you see what he said or did you need to go to narration.
- 46:09So if you cut off that lifeline with very basic understanding of
- 46:13a little hadith being like, oh, all I care about is chain of
- 46:15narrators, please. I said I Waheed to an extent in
- 46:18Ziata. I sure are says the veracity of
- 46:20this Ziata is so strong from all of these accounts that I don't
- 46:23even need to refer to the chain of narrators.
- 46:25If that's a ferry and one of the best ferry in this world's ever
- 46:28seen is saying chain rates to one side.
- 46:31It's an illustration. There's many criteria Roman
- 46:33hadith you need to consider, right?
- 46:34So which book did I end up grabbing Credits?
- 46:36100 bookshop again, accessibility, Mizan and Hikmah.
- 46:40Great book, right? Classic collection of a hadith
- 46:44Sheikh like Shahari I think again, right?
- 46:45Imagine we mentioned his name twice.
- 46:47Amazing scholar and it's just like I remember going through
- 46:51it. It's like how hadith on brushing
- 46:53your teeth. Wow, this is legit.
- 46:56This is actually like on level like hadith on finding friends.
- 46:59And I remember at that point I was going through like a bit of
- 47:01a weird situation with the community.
- 47:03Like am I called you? Am I not called, you know,
- 47:04identity crisis and all that kind of stuff.
- 47:06So how to choose good friends, what friends to be mindful of
- 47:10what constitutes a brother? And if you want, I'm not going
- 47:14to call it any more self help. So that's the last time I say
- 47:16it. If you want inaction, guidance
- 47:19on inaction to get closer towards a line or facets of your
- 47:22life, go to the narrations art environment, because anything
- 47:26they say is a living, breathing version of the Quran.
- 47:30Nothing they say goes against the Quran, right?
- 47:32Nothing. It's immersion and you have
- 47:35answers there. So those anything coming back to
- 47:37your point when you're saying like, what should people read or
- 47:40access instead of that word that I won't mention any more of that
- 47:43phrase, go to the narrations of Ali Muhammad.
- 47:46And sure, some narrations are mega, mega, mega, mega, mega
- 47:50complicated, right? You don't need to go read the
- 47:52read the the laws of Hajj from them all the time.
- 47:56They're a bit difficult. Go read how to choose a brother
- 48:00and sit with your brothers. I remember we actually had a
- 48:01session with one of our mutual friends and I was like, look,
- 48:05I'm bringing Mesan. Let's just open it.
- 48:07I mean, let's just open it. And we we went through it go
- 48:11through, for example, the chapter and what good brothers
- 48:12look like look each other in the eye.
- 48:14Yeah, raise the conversations, man fine.
- 48:17Speak about Watford beating MK Don's five nil, which we just
- 48:20did. All right, congratulations.
- 48:22I mean, I care when I see a good result and then I then I leave
- 48:24it yesterday and I've got family in MK so I'm just giving them
- 48:28grief and that we don't care anymore.
- 48:29OK, convenient. Like, OK, have your chill chats.
- 48:33I'm not saying that you need to suddenly become, you know, 24/7
- 48:36religion, religion, religion, but actually you should because
- 48:38everything is religion. But spend those time and read
- 48:41with your brothers. And I think this is something
- 48:43that we've stopped doing. Like reading as a culture is
- 48:46dead, dead. Only business reading and the
- 48:50other thing reading, that's the only thing that exists in
- 48:52English. And if you look at the
- 48:54narrations and even verses of Quran when it comes to
- 48:57knowledge, right, the the taste of the hadith is always
- 49:01proactive. It's never passive.
- 49:04For example, the narrations that say go travel as far as some say
- 49:07China or whatever, go travel far to seek knowledge.
- 49:09My my Shia will go through the depths of the toughest seas in
- 49:13order to go find knowledge. Even they'll drown whatever.
- 49:16That's not passive, right? So this passive consumption of
- 49:20information of individuals personal opinions about the
- 49:25religion is useless. I sent.
- 49:28Right, if that individual is not saying Quran, hadith.
- 49:32And here's the analysis of a senior scholar, Sacket, like
- 49:36frankly, Sackett. And we need to raise the game
- 49:38because coming back to this point on purpose, there is no
- 49:41way. There is no way that this cancer
- 49:44in our community of purposelessness and all of its
- 49:48impacts could have come about if we had stuck to the real
- 49:52understandings of Doralemma's inference from what Anil Bait
- 49:55and Koran was saying. No way.
- 49:58Because I said his book's been around for how long?
- 50:00And I'm sure he's not the first person to read, write about
- 50:02Torahid like this either, right? And I think this is a this is an
- 50:06issue we've put on ourselves and we're now facing the
- 50:09consequences. I just hope that, sorry, I, I
- 50:11know you all say something, but I just hope that regardless of
- 50:14however old you are, if you're listening to this, that it
- 50:17doesn't feel too high level and that you hear, you know, books
- 50:21like Mizan and Hekma and I feel I hate and you're like, I've
- 50:24never heard of these people or these books, but they're still
- 50:27attainable. And even if they're not there,
- 50:28there are summaries online, there's YouTube videos, I'm sure
- 50:31people are talking about them and there's always starting
- 50:33points as well. One thing I just want to add is
- 50:36I know, obviously we, these last couple of months, we've been
- 50:39focusing a lot on our connection to, about the law, Aless Salaam
- 50:43and, and the sort of connection we have with him.
- 50:45And it reminds me of Arbayeen. A couple of years ago, I had the
- 50:48pleasure to spend time with your cousin, Shekharan Darmani, who's
- 50:52a teacher to me and to all of us at Hamdallah.
- 50:54And he's one-of-a-kind. And I was his his soul audience.
- 50:57I told you, right? For a couple of weeks, I got all
- 50:59of the gems of wisdom from him. And I remember I asked him in
- 51:02Najaf, sorry, in Karbala, I think it was Yomal Arbayan.
- 51:06I said to him, if there was one thing which I can take with me,
- 51:11because obviously there's the noise, the sound, the vibrancy
- 51:14of Arbayan. I said, if there's one thing I
- 51:16can take home with me, this was two years ago.
- 51:18I said, what would that lesson be?
- 51:21He said to me, remember that you are here with a purpose and
- 51:26you're not coming here to seek help for yourself.
- 51:28This is what he told me. He said so for example, people
- 51:30go to Arbayan or they go Majala says I want to improve my Salah
- 51:33and stop listening to music and you know stop lying and XY and
- 51:37said he said you are here with the purpose and that purpose is
- 51:40towards God and specifically towards the amount of your time.
- 51:44Hundreds after we. Purpose. 100.
- 51:46Percent at this kind of juncture I want to kind of bring that as
- 51:49part of the conversation I I yeah, anything you want yeah, I
- 51:51just. Wanted to take us back to the
- 51:53importance of going into the narrations and the importance of
- 51:57us going to them in in a world with so many different
- 52:00ideologies trying to pull us in so many different directions.
- 52:02There's a hadith of Mamasada Salaam, he says, that teach your
- 52:07children our hadith before the Moji get to them.
- 52:09Yeah. And at that time, amazing the
- 52:12Moji ideologies that were trying to confuse like all of the
- 52:15Muslims coming up with different questions, philosophical
- 52:18questions. And I'm Sadiq is telling them
- 52:20before they get to your children make sure you teach them how a
- 52:22hadith because it will make them firm and grounded.
- 52:24And that's relevant in all ages. Ages 100%.
- 52:27And I'm Sadiq again. He says if I find a shab, a
- 52:30youth from my Shia that doesn't want to seek knowledge, I'll
- 52:33strike him on his head. Yeah, that's the that's the
- 52:35level of importance that Mama has given to it.
- 52:37So like, you know, with regards to the narrations, those are
- 52:40literally our shining light. And that's what we say is our
- 52:43jam. How we say Kalam kumnor, your
- 52:45words are light. Literally is giving me in in the
- 52:49darkness. I'm saying in this is the light
- 52:51and this is the guidance I'm going to follow.
- 52:53I, I, I guarantee, I guarantee, I guarantee, right.
- 52:56Anyone who's going through a rough situation, which we've all
- 52:59had and I think you put a poll out right.
- 53:01And then one of the things is that have you found like
- 53:02purpose, purposelessness and lack of?
- 53:05Yeah, we've all been through it. And I'm sure we'll all go
- 53:07through it at some point again in the future.
- 53:09And it's it happens, right? Just spend time with the words
- 53:13of a lot in Quran, words that have Bates and a hadith.
- 53:17And when you just recalibrate and recalibrate and recalibrate,
- 53:21your mind changes. And I'm telling you, if you do
- 53:25this in the morning before people wake up, right, you're a
- 53:30thing. When you wake up, how much noise
- 53:32goes into your head? Whatsapps da da, da da da.
- 53:35Before you do that, you finish yourself a pleasure.
- 53:39Just spend time in the words of Allah and elevate our name
- 53:42Salaam and you just recalibrate that lens.
- 53:46You're not going to see the same problem as you would have
- 53:50otherwise. It won't panic you as much
- 53:53because when you rationalize it, you're like OK I lost 50K deal.
- 53:59The risk comes from Allah. OK, safe.
- 54:03It can. Logically, it's actually as
- 54:05simple as that. What's attached to it is the
- 54:08emotional faculties that are within us.
- 54:10But if you train your intellect and that lens, it's like an
- 54:12optician, right? You go to the optician, they
- 54:14train that lens and train that lens until it's perfect, till
- 54:17you get 2020 back. We need to recalibrate these
- 54:19lenses to go, OK, when I lose 50K, I'm not going, how do I get
- 54:24it? How do I get it?
- 54:24What do I need to do back? I need to take from him.
- 54:26I need to take from him. No, you're not.
- 54:27OK Lost 50K riskman. Allah riskless from Allah.
- 54:31Sustenance is from Allah. He promises it.
- 54:34The hadith is telling me that if you go and do your bit, thumbs
- 54:37up. Don't be excessive either.
- 54:39Okay, so I'm not going to burn myself out and mess up my family
- 54:41in the process because I have absolute conviction of lies
- 54:43there. I'm going to approach this
- 54:45problem differently to how I otherwise would have done it,
- 54:47right? And this is where bringing it to
- 54:49your point on the Mr. And this is vital, vital, vital, right?
- 54:53When the last parameter when we said about your purpose and your
- 54:56USP as per that first narration of the coffee is to obey and you
- 55:00obey. Then you see this beautiful line
- 55:02in Quran Athlete Allah athlete all Rasul Olil Emery Lincoln
- 55:09obey Allah, obey the messenger and those in authority from
- 55:12amongst you. So if you're intellect if the
- 55:15USPF it is to obey Allah and Allah and the Quran commands you
- 55:19obey me, obey the prophet and obey those in authority on form
- 55:23mocks you. What is your job with the Imam
- 55:26right? We don't need to go into the all
- 55:28the federations that we have about.
- 55:29If you go for Hajj, give Homs, give us a card, do ABCDEFG and
- 55:35you don't recognize the Imam of your time or you don't have
- 55:38Mara. If you're Imam that none of this
- 55:40is helpful, it's all there and we can bring that up at another
- 55:43point that this obedience to your Imam, given that he is the
- 55:48Khalifa of Allah on earth, is direct obedience that lost
- 55:53Pramatan. Go and read what the Imam had to
- 55:57say. We have a number of different
- 55:59daws that we have for him. See how he acts, see how he
- 56:01thinks. Go and look at and again to my
- 56:04dear one sisters said Munir al Kabbaz has a phenomenal book
- 56:08called The Mehdi, an understanding the awaited 1 and
- 56:12essential. I don't the organization that we
- 56:13work with to try and bring these books to life and trying to get
- 56:16people back to thinking and reading and whatever we've got.
- 56:21We've got discussions on this book by Said Munir, and when you
- 56:24just read how the Renema understand Alkaim, it's unreal.
- 56:33Unreal. A lot of us, I think when we
- 56:36were growing up, we were thinking, you know, Oh yeah,
- 56:38it's just going to be like swords and spades and we're
- 56:40going to hit each other. And then that's like the end of
- 56:42the Imam. And time's done, man.
- 56:45The civilization that the Imam is going to bring is outrageous.
- 56:50We have a one hour discussion. If anyone wants to get it, we
- 56:52can, we can share it. And it's just incredible.
- 56:55And you'll see how said Munir, a scholar of that level, a student
- 56:58of ISIL, where he's a student of Isilah Sistani, a student of
- 57:01Isilah Tabrizi, one of the leading teachers of
- 57:04Brattleharage and Najaf and previously in Qom.
- 57:06Like up there, how he, dare I say dances between Quran,
- 57:11Hadith, Quran, Hadith, Quran, Hadith and strict logic the
- 57:15whole way through and you're like what?
- 57:17That's a scholar. If we had that on our pulpits
- 57:20week in week out or people doing just saying what he was saying
- 57:24in his lectures week in week out on pulpits, this community will
- 57:28look so different. And I've seen it with my own
- 57:32eyes. 6070 year old men, after I read a narration from Isa
- 57:36Rahid's book on principles of faith on Imama.
- 57:39There's beautiful hadith from Salih, basically like a almost
- 57:41like Zarajama. You feel like you're reading
- 57:43Zarajama and this uncle came up to me afterwards, 70 years old
- 57:47from a Pakistani community in East London.
- 57:49He's like, I've I've never heard anyone say this about the Imam
- 57:56like no where is this from? And this is one of those
- 57:58Pakistani uncles who like definitely is 24/7 at every much
- 58:02list that you can get just glued to it.
- 58:05Is it that numeration that that Imam's like a shining sun?
- 58:09And what's the full thing? It's about 8 minutes.
- 58:13OK, cool. It's the solid, it's the solid
- 58:151. And but you see that that moment
- 58:18of knowledge that reaches him and he's like, can I have the
- 58:21book? OK, fine.
- 58:22And that's just when you spend time with V, not because they
- 58:28think they're something, but they've just worked super hard
- 58:31to take you towards, a way to take you towards.
- 58:33It's as simple as. That and the centricity of the
- 58:37obedience to the Imam is something that is spoken about
- 58:39in so many narrations that it shows you the emphasis and the
- 58:43importance of it, that that is the only way you're going to be
- 58:46able to obey Allah. If there's there's just just a
- 58:49quote, one desolation in, I believe it's in Al Kafi as well.
- 58:53The Imam says Thorwatul Emery was Sanam who were Mifta who
- 59:00were. He says that the essence of the
- 59:06matter, it's key. It's like everything to do with
- 59:11the matter, the Amor of the religion and the pleasure of God
- 59:15and the door to all things. It is obedience to the Imam
- 59:19after having recognized him. Literally like everything you.
- 59:22Want. Is in the obedience to the Imam
- 59:24and. I think a.
- 59:26Lot summarizes a lot of people when.
- 59:30They hear that they'll be like, oh, this is this is extreme
- 59:32because it's the new term that they're hearing now.
- 59:34And it's like a nice, nice new buzz when you understand Imama.
- 59:39And people then say that these individuals are listen, Allah
- 59:43are the tongues of Allah. It's kalam Allah.
- 59:46These are the words of Allah. And then they're like, Oh my
- 59:48God, no, I'm still shaking. I'm still shaking.
- 59:50Well, why does the last parents either say in the Quran about
- 59:52the prophet when the Prophet asks for pebbles to throw a
- 59:55Quraish? Yeah, he's like, that's not
- 59:57that. You who threw?
- 59:58I threw. Like in the.
- 1:00:00Runner right you'd and then after that you didn't kill it
- 1:00:04was me. If you think these narrations
- 1:00:07are Hulu, tell me that the Quran is all at the same breath right.
- 1:00:12It's your lack of understanding of Imama that's causing you to
- 1:00:16get worried about this. Why do you have a lack of
- 1:00:18understanding for Imama? Could be a few reasons.
- 1:00:20Maybe you're sat consuming information in lectures.
- 1:00:25You're not studying and seeking knowledge and you're not going
- 1:00:29to the right individuals and you can tell the right individuals.
- 1:00:32And I, I hate to press on this point, but until each of us
- 1:00:37wakes up and goes to the real LMR, we're going to be stuck.
- 1:00:40And this purposelessness is just going to continue to continue
- 1:00:44and continue because you see these guys and we even mentioned
- 1:00:48it, right? Like you said, Imran, one person
- 1:00:50audience, right? You see, Olama, they don't care
- 1:00:53about this concept. Audience followers, WhatsApp
- 1:00:57states are showing me do this, that and the other.
- 1:00:59They don't care. Sheikh, you know, you mentioned
- 1:01:03somewhere, I'm not going to say who because you wouldn't like
- 1:01:04it, but I was sat with him the other night.
- 1:01:06He was like, sorry that you know, this community Marshall
- 1:01:08was so nice to me, but they were saying, you know, Sheikh,
- 1:01:11whatever, I'm not a Sheikh. OK, we'll give you this other
- 1:01:14type of no, no, I'm not Hajj. No, I'm not Hajj.
- 1:01:17OK, brother, he goes, why do you need to put brother?
- 1:01:20They know that I'm a male. Just put my name even at that.
- 1:01:24When you've got a name like for example, or Ahmed or Muhammed,
- 1:01:28we can't even live up to this. Why am I going to add another
- 1:01:31title before it? Can you imagine?
- 1:01:35But then we've got in other scenarios, no, I need to give
- 1:01:38myself the pomp. And all I want to say is just be
- 1:01:41careful because that is self help.
- 1:01:45That's not God centricity. I know you are on time limits,
- 1:01:49so I think we'll wrap up. The last question I just want to
- 1:01:52ask you is if there's anyone at home who is feeling at the
- 1:02:00lowest of the low at the moment, Anyone who's going through a
- 1:02:03real difficulty and even if they don't realize it, so maybe just
- 1:02:08struggling, even if nothing evident has happened to them,
- 1:02:11but they just feel completely lost and purposeless at the
- 1:02:16moment. What would be one thing you
- 1:02:19would say to them to help them and make this night or this day
- 1:02:22when they're listening a life changing day for them?
- 1:02:27And that's a big one. I'm, I'm going to, I'm going to
- 1:02:31go a bit left field. I'm going to assume, for
- 1:02:33example, like prey is the far etcetera.
- 1:02:37Is all that OK? So I'm going to give something.
- 1:02:40The thing that did for me, and I still remember them very vividly
- 1:02:44in my head was reading Principles of Faith by Ayatollah
- 1:02:48Wahid because the way he introduces the concepts of Las
- 1:02:52Panmata Allah was like, I've never, ever, ever seen before.
- 1:02:58OK, if that's too heavy and it could be.
- 1:03:02Ayatollah Nasir Makaramshirazi has a book called 50 Lectures on
- 1:03:06the Principles of Faith for the Youth.
- 1:03:07And what's really jokes about it is that in the cover he says
- 1:03:10that I've designed this for high school students.
- 1:03:12I've given lectures from this book and you've got adults like
- 1:03:14this is so, like, intense on the head, you know, it's just for
- 1:03:17high school, for high school students.
- 1:03:19But the way he introduces the concept of Allah and if I can
- 1:03:22just give a taste of it. Yeah, of course.
- 1:03:24Summary of one of the first parts, it says every single
- 1:03:27person within themselves wants to be thankful.
- 1:03:32He'd be weird if someone was watching that.
- 1:03:34I've come to your guys studio and after we finished this
- 1:03:37podcast, I just walk out and I don't say thank you.
- 1:03:39They'd be like, sorry, that's rude.
- 1:03:40Why? Because every human has an
- 1:03:41innate level of saying thanks. It's just natural.
- 1:03:44He gave me some water. Thanks for giving me water.
- 1:03:47What's greater, the water that you've given me that I should
- 1:03:50say thanks to you or the banquet that Allah has laid out?
- 1:03:55Why is it that man can go through life with parents,
- 1:03:58health money? And I think a lot of people
- 1:04:01listening to this podcast will have many of these items that
- 1:04:05people in Gaza don't have. And we don't say thanks.
- 1:04:09And when we say thanks, we say thanks the way we want to say
- 1:04:13thanks. If I say you're a Liverpool
- 1:04:15sport, right? If I say if I say thanks to you,
- 1:04:17Here's a United shirt, you'd probably intensely slapped me on
- 1:04:20the face and told me to leave even more, right?
- 1:04:21It's finished. It's over, right.
- 1:04:23OK, well, so we go. You know what?
- 1:04:24I want to thank the way that I want to thank you.
- 1:04:26That doesn't make sense. You thank someone in the way
- 1:04:28that they. Don't want to be thanked?
- 1:04:31How does Allah want to be thanked?
- 1:04:32He doesn't want to be thanked. This is the mercy of it.
- 1:04:35It's not about Allah. He doesn't need to be thanked.
- 1:04:37He's just saying I've created you to obey and that obedience
- 1:04:40is going to help you. So I think when we keep in the
- 1:04:43top of our head that I need to be thankful to the one that gave
- 1:04:46me a banquet because that's what's inside of me.
- 1:04:48How so I go through without being thankful.
- 1:04:51Then when that clocks go read Mona Jade Shakiri.
- 1:04:55I see This is how you go between and.
- 1:05:00Just keep keep keep keep going. Was the wisdom of. 100 percent,
- 1:05:05100%. I've really enjoyed this one
- 1:05:06man. Hummed a lot.
- 1:05:07Probably I've enjoyed this one the most, in fact.
- 1:05:10Yeah. Oh, really?
- 1:05:11I'm not gonna lie. But you know what?
- 1:05:12That you said you've only done one of these ones?
- 1:05:14No. So it's yeah.
- 1:05:14Two of you, I've done a few of them.
- 1:05:16Other ones I feel like this is. But you know what?
- 1:05:191 I feel like this is hummed a lot for me.
- 1:05:22It's been something which I feel like I needed to hear on a
- 1:05:25personal level. Yeah.
- 1:05:28And I feel like in many ways, we all need to hear different
- 1:05:31elements of it, if not the whole thing and, and apply to our
- 1:05:34lives. But this age, the, the 20's, the
- 1:05:37young age, the transitional phase from becoming, from being
- 1:05:42a teenager and kind of learning the ropes of life and then
- 1:05:45getting thrown into the deep end of, of employment and, and
- 1:05:49motherhood or fatherhood. And, you know, having to wear
- 1:05:52that hat of being an, an adult grown up, it's very tasking.
- 1:05:58And I think it's, it's important sometimes to reflect on how
- 1:06:01we're doing and also where we're going.
- 1:06:04And I think that's in Charlotte, what people can take away from
- 1:06:06today. So bro, thank you so much.
- 1:06:08Thank you. Thank you guys enjoyed it.
- 1:06:10I I. Really hope you you'll be back
- 1:06:12soon so we can have you on a kit come over Charlotte.
- 1:06:15Why not? I think half the community is
- 1:06:18going to move there anyway. Do one on the beach.
- 1:06:20Hello beaches, I'd love it there.
- 1:06:22It'd be amazing I think. Nice beaches.

- 1:06:26room. Online I love that bring it 2025

- 1:06:45leave in the comments? Green heart something.
- 1:06:49Yeah, Green Heart will do. Yeah.
- 1:06:50Green heart. Leave a green heart in the
- 1:06:51comments so we know that you've made it this far.
