- 0:00Speaker 1: Down, it's only May. Did they perhaps looking back, I
- 0:03Speaker 1: know hindsight is perfect, but did they perhaps wait too long?
- 0:07Speaker 1: And maybe the injury is going to be a little
- 0:10Speaker 1: longer recovery now because they let him grind through and
- 0:13Speaker 1: play through that oblique for another week.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Well, in retrospect, I think you look at it now
- 0:19Speaker 2: that he's re injured himself and say, well, you know,
- 0:21Speaker 2: if you put him on the aisle right away, maybe
- 0:25Speaker 2: you get a week or a week.
- 0:26Speaker 3: And a half back or something like that.
- 0:28Speaker 1: But he was.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Catching through it and playing through it and it wasn't
- 0:32Speaker 2: until it grabbed him. So yeah, I think it's a
- 0:35Speaker 2: it's an easy thing to say now that they should
- 0:37Speaker 2: have done something differently because it didn't work out. But
- 0:41Speaker 2: you know, with the info at the time and the
- 0:45Speaker 2: fact that he was catching every day led me to
- 0:48Speaker 2: think that it wasn't you know, it wasn't an issue
- 0:50Speaker 2: that kept him from performing, and who knows, like that
- 0:54Speaker 2: was kind of an awkward movement too that got him,
- 0:56Speaker 2: So that doesn't happen.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Injuries are so right because it's always hard to know exactly, well,
- 1:04Speaker 2: what if we would have done this differently or this differently,
- 1:06Speaker 2: and it's like, yeah, maybe it would have changed it,
- 1:08Speaker 2: maybe it wouldn't have no idea.
- 1:10Speaker 3: But the awkward movement kind of got him.
- 1:11Speaker 2: If that doesn't happen, who knows what happens, right, I
- 1:15Speaker 2: just hope now that it's not very long. We'll find
- 1:18Speaker 2: out more when we go to the ballpark today. And
- 1:21Speaker 2: then you hope, I think, if you're kind of silver
- 1:24Speaker 2: lining this thing, you hope that he comes back and
- 1:26Speaker 2: just kind of has a reset because we haven't really
- 1:29Speaker 2: seen the cow at the plate all season that you're
- 1:32Speaker 2: hoping for, and you just hope that the Mariners can
- 1:35Speaker 2: find a way and play well in the stretch and
- 1:37Speaker 2: score runs in the stretch and get the col Rawley
- 1:41Speaker 2: back in the middle of the order and he starts
- 1:43Speaker 2: thundering homers the rest of the way. That's kind of
- 1:46Speaker 2: I think what you're hoping for at this point.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Somewhat under overlooked in all of this. Mitch Garver, he's
- 1:53Speaker 1: been okay more than okay, and he's really good at
- 1:58Speaker 1: challenging pitches. I mean, I know if he's missed one yet,
- 2:01Speaker 1: would you say Mitch Garver's maybe a little unsung hero
- 2:04Speaker 1: of this whole thing.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You know, he is excellent at that. It's funny. We
- 2:09Speaker 2: were just talking to him about challenging pitches. It was
- 2:12Speaker 2: really interesting to hear him talk about it because he
- 2:15Speaker 2: has worked really hard at framing, but there's certain pitches
- 2:20Speaker 2: that he knows that he missed, like he's taken it
- 2:25Speaker 2: out of the zone kind of thing, and he knows this.
- 2:27Speaker 2: He's worked hard at it, but he knows there's times
- 2:31Speaker 2: where he takes it out of the zone. He feels
- 2:34Speaker 2: like ABS is a way to get those back, which
- 2:37Speaker 2: I think is super interesting. So, you know, as much
- 2:41Speaker 2: as he's worked at framing, he's like, oh, now I
- 2:43Speaker 2: have this other tool. I know it's a strike, I
- 2:46Speaker 2: took it out of the zone. I can get it back,
- 2:48Speaker 2: which I think is really interesting. And he's it's also
- 2:53Speaker 2: interesting to hear him talk about as a hitter and catcher.
- 2:56Speaker 2: He feels like it's easier to do it as a
- 2:58Speaker 2: catcher in terms of just steel of the strike zone
- 3:01Speaker 2: as opposed to a hitter, which I thought was super interesting.
- 3:04Speaker 3: But he's like the perfect.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Backup catcher, I think, because he knows the staff, he
- 3:10Speaker 2: can come.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Into a game and pop a homer like he did
- 3:13Speaker 3: last game.
- 3:14Speaker 2: He's just the perfect guy as a backup, and then
- 3:16Speaker 2: if you need him for a couple of weeks to
- 3:17Speaker 2: play a little bit more.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You feel comfortable with doing that.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And I also say he's been pretty productive against lefties
- 3:23Speaker 2: and that's kind of where they spotted him. So he's
- 3:26Speaker 2: going to take on some extra here in the next
- 3:28Speaker 2: little bit. But it's good to have, especially when you
- 3:32Speaker 2: kind of survey the catching landscape in Major League Baseball,
- 3:36Speaker 2: like not every team has a capable backup to stand
- 3:41Speaker 2: in and just handle a staff, because that's basically what
- 3:44Speaker 2: you're asking. Hey, handle a staff and you can run
- 3:47Speaker 2: into one, you know, every now and again. Great, but
- 3:50Speaker 2: really handling the staff and performing defensively is the most
- 3:53Speaker 2: important part.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I think in this stretch without.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Cal Mitch garverg took a lot of heat in this
- 3:58Speaker 1: market last year, and good for him for this offseason
- 4:01Speaker 1: he's off to This is, of course, a familiar voice
- 4:03Speaker 1: of Gary Hill, Junior Marrin's broadcaster on the Beacon Plumbing
- 4:06Speaker 1: Hotline on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Gary this stretch without cow could it reveal whether the
- 4:12Speaker 4: Mariners offense is actually deep enough to be a real
- 4:17Speaker 4: playoff contender.
- 4:18Speaker 1: You think.
- 4:20Speaker 3: It's a good question.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It's gonna be hard, There's no question, because he is
- 4:24Speaker 2: a bat in the middle of the lineup and everything
- 4:27Speaker 2: he did last year, this is not going to be
- 4:28Speaker 2: an easy stretch. What I have found interesting if you
- 4:32Speaker 2: look at the last month, for example, and it's a
- 4:35Speaker 2: month where Cal has struggled. It's not like he has
- 4:38Speaker 2: hit a dozen homers in the past month, right He's
- 4:42Speaker 2: he's scuffled, he's been hurt. And through that, the Mariners
- 4:46Speaker 2: top ten batting average in Baseball, top ten on base
- 4:50Speaker 2: top ten slugging. They're actually fifth in home runs in
- 4:53Speaker 2: the past month. They're just outside of the top ten
- 4:56Speaker 2: and runs scored. And I think that gives you optimism
- 5:00Speaker 2: in this stretch without Cal, because you there are still
- 5:04Speaker 2: guys in the lineup, like Julio has been excellent, he's
- 5:07Speaker 2: off to the best start in his career. Donovan is
- 5:09Speaker 2: back and he makes an enormous difference for this lineup,
- 5:14Speaker 2: you know, and Naylor and Randy and Raley JP.
- 5:16Speaker 3: They're all capable guys.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So I think certainly they can survive this stretch without Cal,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and maybe even better than survive, like if they're hanging
- 5:26Speaker 2: around top ten. That's gonna work, especially with their pitching
- 5:31Speaker 2: getting more healthy in the back end of the bullpen.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So I think it's a good question. It's not gonna
- 5:37Speaker 2: be easy, but I think it's possible for them to
- 5:40Speaker 2: still be good offensively in this stretch.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Well, let's talk a little bit about those Astros, because
- 5:46Speaker 4: the Mariners, they.
- 5:47Speaker 1: They've had some dominance over them.
- 5:49Speaker 4: And I think, well, let me ask you, does it
- 5:52Speaker 4: say more about the Mariners improving mentally just getting over
- 5:55Speaker 4: that hump in that rivalry, or more about maybe the
- 5:57Speaker 4: Astros on the decline because they are not what they
- 6:01Speaker 4: used to be.
- 6:03Speaker 2: You know, it's funny when you kind of look at
- 6:05Speaker 2: how this series has played out between the two teams,
- 6:09Speaker 2: because really you start to look at started.
- 6:12Speaker 3: In twenty three.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The Mariners took the season series that year from the Astros.
- 6:18Speaker 2: They did it again in twenty four, they did it
- 6:20Speaker 2: again last year.
- 6:20Speaker 3: This is a fourth year running.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I mean, the Mariners have already secured the season series
- 6:25Speaker 2: against the Astros. This is a fourth year running the
- 6:27Speaker 2: Mariners have taken the season series from Houston. Now, they
- 6:30Speaker 2: didn't take the division until last year, but just head
- 6:34Speaker 2: to head, it's really turned the last few years. And
- 6:39Speaker 2: I gotta say it was a lot of fun being
- 6:41Speaker 2: in that building the last few days because there are
- 6:46Speaker 2: some bad memories that go along with that building.
- 6:49Speaker 3: And as we know, these teams have had a lot
- 6:51Speaker 3: of battles. But you know, they took three or four.
- 6:54Speaker 2: They didn't sweep it, but it was pretty dominant in
- 6:57Speaker 2: those four games. You kind of look game by games.
- 6:59Speaker 2: The Astros literally led for half an inning in that
- 7:03Speaker 2: entire series, right, and they won one of the game.
- 7:07Speaker 2: You know, they they walked one of them off, but
- 7:09Speaker 2: they led in the bottom of the eighth. In that series,
- 7:11Speaker 2: the Mariners tied it in the ninth and then they
- 7:13Speaker 2: walked it off, like they led for half an inning.
- 7:17Speaker 2: You watch those games play out head to head, and
- 7:19Speaker 2: the Mariners just look like a much better team. And
- 7:22Speaker 2: I know the Astros are beat up, but I was
- 7:25Speaker 2: thinking about them. You know, it's just a couple of
- 7:27Speaker 2: years ago. There were twelve games below five hundred and May,
- 7:31Speaker 2: and they stormed back. They won the division, They passed
- 7:35Speaker 2: the Mariners. They won eighty eight games. But that Astros
- 7:39Speaker 2: team felt like a good team just not playing well.
- 7:42Speaker 2: All their stars were still there, you know, Tucker, all
- 7:44Speaker 2: those guys. I look at this Astros team and they
- 7:47Speaker 2: have problems. Even when Hater comes back and Penya comes
- 7:50Speaker 2: back and some of these guys get healthy, this looks
- 7:53Speaker 2: like a team that has problems. And I gotta say this,
- 7:56Speaker 2: Mariner's run against them has been super funn enjoy this.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So it was so quiet on the broadcast at times,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think you could probably hear some trash cans getting
- 8:08Speaker 1: banged out of the dugout. I don't know.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It was so quiet, very different because that building is
- 8:13Speaker 2: always so loud. You know, it's it's enclosed, it's loud.
- 8:17Speaker 2: They're pumping up the noise and the music and the
- 8:21Speaker 2: sound and all that stuff and the crowd and everything else.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And that was not the case in the last four
- 8:26Speaker 2: games for sure.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Gary Luis Castilla yesterday only one run allowed while he
- 8:30Speaker 1: was in the game and a couple more tech done
- 8:32Speaker 1: after he left, got into the sixth inning, allowing only
- 8:34Speaker 1: four hits. Did walk three more and that's been a problem.
- 8:37Speaker 1: But do you think he quitted himself well to continue
- 8:40Speaker 1: this six man rotation. I don't see that they're at
- 8:42Speaker 1: a decision point yet on whether they what they do with.
- 8:45Speaker 2: That I thought he was really good yesterday. And the context, too,
- 8:50Speaker 2: I think is really important because there was some pressure
- 8:53Speaker 2: on him to go deep in the game, probably more
- 8:56Speaker 2: pressure than any starter has had in a game this season, because.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You know, Farrera wasn't there. They had to activate him.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Because of rules, and he wasn't there. And good on
- 9:05Speaker 2: the Mariners because you know, he just had a baby
- 9:09Speaker 2: to red eye him for a day game in Houston
- 9:13Speaker 2: and then fly right back to Seattle after a newborn.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I'm glad they didn't ask him to do that. I'm
- 9:17Speaker 2: glad he stayed home just as a person, right, and
- 9:20Speaker 2: he's someone that's he's taken the ball for the Mariners
- 9:23Speaker 2: at times three games in a row, like he's doing
- 9:26Speaker 2: his part. I'm glad they didn't bring him out to Houston,
- 9:29Speaker 2: even though they had to activate.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Him, so they were short there.
- 9:33Speaker 2: The Hoppy had pitched a couple in a row, Bizarro
- 9:36Speaker 2: had pitched three or four, so you were wondering going
- 9:39Speaker 2: into the game, like, man, if this thing's close, or
- 9:41Speaker 2: if Castile gets blown up, what are they gonna do?
- 9:44Speaker 2: And in the context, I thought he pitched really well and.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Two of those walks came early.
- 9:49Speaker 2: You know he threw quite twenty four pitches I think
- 9:52Speaker 2: in the first, so a lot of pitches the first,
- 9:54Speaker 2: but I really thought he settled in after that. It's
- 9:57Speaker 2: unfortunate that double off the Crawford box wall all score
- 10:01Speaker 2: two in the six, because I think his final line
- 10:03Speaker 2: was actually not as good as he pitched like we
- 10:06Speaker 2: saw it ninety eight. We saw in ninety seven, we
- 10:10Speaker 2: saw the high fastball.
- 10:11Speaker 3: He mixed things up well.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I thought it was a really good outing, especially the context,
- 10:15Speaker 2: and I think something to build from moving forward to
- 10:18Speaker 2: and Miller pitched well like Miller his first time out.
- 10:21Speaker 2: He looked good, So I think the context is pretty funny.
- 10:24Speaker 2: As you know, the Astro is just desperate to get
- 10:28Speaker 2: a starter in there that can give them anything like
- 10:32Speaker 2: four or five six innings, and here the Mariners are
- 10:34Speaker 2: trying to figure out, what are we going to do
- 10:36Speaker 2: with six guys. The contrast was just right in your
- 10:38Speaker 2: face in that series.
- 10:41Speaker 1: You know what, I was appreciated the Mariners. What he
- 10:42Speaker 1: did with for is missus Forrer. I mean that, yeah,
- 10:46Speaker 1: pretty cool for dad to be on a newborn. Absolutely,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna get you.
- 10:51Speaker 4: I want to get your thoughts on Randy because he's
- 10:53Speaker 4: always been I don't want to say streaky, but he's
- 10:57Speaker 4: been a productive player this season. What differences are you
- 10:59Speaker 4: seeing and has approached so far this year? And that's
- 11:03Speaker 4: allowed to be so consistent.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, consistent is the perfect word. That is
- 11:10Speaker 2: what has been striking I think for Randy because he's
- 11:13Speaker 2: a guy that he's he can kind of ride the wave,
- 11:16Speaker 2: like he'll get super hot and be really good and
- 11:19Speaker 2: then kind of hit a valley, you know, that sort
- 11:21Speaker 2: of thing. But the consistency has really stood out to me.
- 11:25Speaker 3: So far this year.
- 11:26Speaker 2: And you know, they on base percentage, it's climbing to
- 11:29Speaker 2: three ninety at this point. I mean that's great, and
- 11:33Speaker 2: you know, four homers but eleven doubles, So it's not
- 11:36Speaker 2: like the slug hasn't been there either.
- 11:38Speaker 3: He's just been good all the way around.
- 11:39Speaker 2: He's rated well as an outfielder defensively and left field,
- 11:43Speaker 2: and in a lineup where they had so many guys
- 11:46Speaker 2: struggling for so much of the season, he's really been
- 11:50Speaker 2: somebody the Mariners have been able to count on all
- 11:53Speaker 2: season long.
- 11:54Speaker 3: He's already guy too.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I feel like he doesn't get enough credit for this,
- 11:56Speaker 2: but he posts like He plays every single day, even
- 12:00Speaker 2: when he's banged up, he plays through it.
- 12:03Speaker 3: He finds a way to make it happen.
- 12:05Speaker 2: And I've just really appreciated what he's done this year
- 12:09Speaker 2: and just how solid he's been, just every single day.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Getting on base.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Of course, he gets hit by pitches all the time
- 12:16Speaker 2: because that's what he does. That's one of his skill
- 12:20Speaker 2: sets he's proven over time. But he has been so
- 12:23Speaker 2: valuable to the Mariners.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Gary, I want to ask you an off your question.
- 12:27Speaker 1: What it's been like this year to travel with your
- 12:29Speaker 1: great friend Rickriz and the cities you're going to. I
- 12:33Speaker 1: saw Chicago, the White Sox fitted him and his final
- 12:36Speaker 1: season after forty one years of broadcasting with the Mariners.
- 12:39Speaker 1: What that experience in what you've watched and witness.
- 12:42Speaker 3: It's been great.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yesterday in Houston they had a big cake for him.
- 12:48Speaker 2: They put him on the video board. Yeah, and you know,
- 12:51Speaker 2: we get to know, especially the other broadcasters really well,
- 12:54Speaker 2: especially the ones in the division. We all become friends
- 12:57Speaker 2: because we see each other, you know, so many times
- 13:00Speaker 2: in the course of the year, and it's just really
- 13:02Speaker 2: fun to see all the appreciation. And it started in
- 13:05Speaker 2: spring training. It was some of my favorite memories of
- 13:08Speaker 2: the season so far. You know, in spring, our booth
- 13:12Speaker 2: is lower, kind of in the stands, and so after games,
- 13:15Speaker 2: we'd have Mariner fans just kinda walk up after games
- 13:18Speaker 2: and get a ball signed by Rake and a picture
- 13:21Speaker 2: taken and a hat sign that sort of thing, because
- 13:24Speaker 2: everyone was right there and it's been that sort of
- 13:27Speaker 2: celebration all season long. Chicago was really special for him too.
- 13:32Speaker 2: He got a chance to go back home and you know,
- 13:35Speaker 2: walk around and kind of knowing it's going to be
- 13:38Speaker 2: his last time broadcasting at that ballpark, you know, right
- 13:41Speaker 2: across the street from where he grew up watching ballgames.
- 13:44Speaker 3: And he actually went on White Sox radio too for
- 13:47Speaker 3: half an inning.
- 13:48Speaker 2: So just he got a chance to call his hometown
- 13:52Speaker 2: team on radio for half an inning while we were there,
- 13:54Speaker 2: which I think is super cool. But to see the
- 13:57Speaker 2: celebration and I appreciate I think even more as someone
- 14:01Speaker 2: who grew up listening to him, Like Rick and Dave,
- 14:04Speaker 2: they're the ones that sparked us. For me, I would
- 14:07Speaker 2: not be here without listening to them growing up. And
- 14:10Speaker 2: you know, just to be a small part of this
- 14:12Speaker 2: journey at the end, I'm just so thankful for I'm
- 14:15Speaker 2: so happy to be along for the ride.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Well said, so you do a hell of a job
- 14:18Speaker 1: as well, and that's great for you to be the
- 14:20Speaker 1: witness to all of this. We appreciate you coming on, Gary,
- 14:23Speaker 1: enjoy the weekend series with the dads. It's a good
- 14:26Speaker 1: Potterys team coming into town. And we'll catch up with you,
- 14:29Speaker 1: saying we do appreciate your time as always, Thanks.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Gerry, anytime. Fun as always, talk to you soon.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Thank you. Gary Hill, Junior Mariners broadcaster, partnering with Rick
- 14:38Speaker 1: Riz and Rizz's final forty first and final season as
- 14:41Speaker 1: the Mariners radio broadcaster, and that's cool insight to hear
- 14:44Speaker 1: what he's witnessing Rick Riz out, that's Baul, you know
- 14:48Speaker 1: what I mean. That's what it's about, right, you know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: it's fun to do it. But like you said, relationships, yes, yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 1: it's that's ball. And as much as they're on the road,
- 14:56Speaker 1: as much as they're together, as much as many games
- 14:58Speaker 1: they have, I mean just Houston last night, Chicago before that,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and then tonight they're home against the Padres and over
- 15:04Speaker 1: the weekend and then they go on. Yeah, it's that's
- 15:07Speaker 1: cool part of baseball. The Seahawks dropped a photo.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I don't know if you saw it, and it says
- 15:12Speaker 4: the signature scent of a Champion We did not care?
- 15:16Speaker 4: Available do I'm kidding It's not available, But you know
- 15:19Speaker 4: what somebo betty get after that, they might be able
- 15:21Speaker 4: to slang that. I know a lot of Seahawks fans
- 15:23Speaker 4: will buy it. They might not ever spray it, but
- 15:26Speaker 4: they will put that up in their room or man cave,
- 15:31Speaker 4: you name it.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I just retweeted.
- 15:33Speaker 4: So if everyone's running what the hell I'm talking about,
- 15:35Speaker 4: go to nine go to KJR on Twitter nine three
- 15:38Speaker 4: three three nine three three excuse me, KJR, and I
- 15:41Speaker 4: just retweeted the picture we did not care the signature
- 15:44Speaker 4: scent of a Champion.
- 15:45Speaker 1: God, that sounds good. They also have the trash Talks
- 15:49Speaker 1: fragrant from Nick even worry that he was hawking yesterday.
- 15:53Speaker 1: The Skips keeps getting better. The new fragrance from the
- 15:56Speaker 1: best secondary in footballs with the Seahawks are calling it.
- 16:00Speaker 1: But yes, the signature sent of a champion Seahawks based
- 16:03Speaker 1: on their schedule. Yeah, there's Chris Man of the people.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Good job, Odae Grad. Hey, you know I'll try next.
- 16:11Speaker 1: You'll be part of the show. As you are every day.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I'm having thirty because they're going to read back your
- 16:14Speaker 1: text at four nine four five one under the Comatad
- 16:16Speaker 1: text line. On ninety three point three kJ r f M.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Welcome back Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd On ninety
- 16:31Speaker 1: three point three kJ r f M. Remember Trek Scoogle,
- 16:36Speaker 1: the two time Signing On Award winner, having that surgery
- 16:39Speaker 1: shoulder surgery, Seattle use Trek scouble Well, he's lightly throwing cat,
- 16:44Speaker 1: playing catch, tossing the ball just two weeks after he
- 16:47Speaker 1: had that surgery to remove a bone chip from his elbow.
- 16:51Speaker 1: ESPN's Buster Only reporting that Scott Boras Schooble's agent, was
- 16:56Speaker 1: telling this podcast that they had a different kind of surgery,
- 17:00Speaker 1: a nanoscope on his shoulder. He's believed to be the
- 17:03Speaker 1: first major league pitcher to have this type of surgery
- 17:06Speaker 1: instead of an arthroscopic surgery to remove things loose bodies
- 17:10Speaker 1: as they call it, in a pitching shoulder. There's talk
- 17:13Speaker 1: Only says of the Tiger's perhaps getting him back in
- 17:16Speaker 1: a month down the mount pitching when it looked like
- 17:20Speaker 1: he might be out for the entire season. Trek Scoogel
- 17:22Speaker 1: with the nanoscope in his shoulder. You know what it means.
- 17:25Speaker 1: The music is time for reading back your text and
- 17:28Speaker 1: it's coming out to text line four nine, four or
- 17:30Speaker 1: five to one.
- 17:32Speaker 4: All right, let's get thing rolland here Greg from the
- 17:35Speaker 4: four two five. How many times have people texted you
- 17:39Speaker 4: and asked why you called the Padres the dads?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Is that a really legitimate question if people not know
- 17:46Speaker 1: Spanish at all, not even Spanglish. Oh wow, the word
- 17:50Speaker 1: is I didn't even think of that.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I know what, I know what the I know what
- 17:54Speaker 4: pot andre and Spanish means father.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Wow. Colloquially often called dadda San Francisco, dads San Diego.
- 18:04Speaker 1: But excuse me, but yeah, I thought that was just common.
- 18:08Speaker 4: I think people just didn't realize obviously it's Spanish and
- 18:11Speaker 4: just was like padres padres.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Didn't think like I lived in California for a while
- 18:17Speaker 1: and no one's ever been like, maybe changed the name.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I guess not. Well, they're so close to the Mexican
- 18:22Speaker 1: border that a lot of their fans are in Mexico,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and a lot of their fans are Spanish speaking and
- 18:28Speaker 1: interesting padres. This is stretch.
- 18:32Speaker 4: There's probably people like dug but at the same time,
- 18:35Speaker 4: never thought of it like that.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Wow, I'm really my son last when I.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Now I get it because I was like, why does
- 18:44Speaker 4: big calm the dad? But I just never asked because
- 18:46Speaker 4: I'm like, it's not that serious.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I thought that was four two five.
- 18:49Speaker 4: You're not alone. Dad's trash can is obvious. So maybe
- 18:53Speaker 4: not they cheated unless you didn't watch baseball at all. Sure,
- 19:00Speaker 4: all right, here we go from the two o six
- 19:02Speaker 4: true story. I have a bottle of Supersonic cologne at home.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Never used it, but it's still cool. And that's in
- 19:07Speaker 4: reference to me talking about the Seahawks dropping their new
- 19:10Speaker 4: line of cologne.
- 19:12Speaker 1: When was that the SuperSonics colone? Was that back when
- 19:17Speaker 1: Sean Camp and Gary Payton six? Can you tell us
- 19:22Speaker 1: a year?
- 19:22Speaker 4: You give us some insight here on this cologne you
- 19:25Speaker 4: got there?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Because Greg and I are curious. That'd be some vintage
- 19:28Speaker 1: seventy nine championship cologne. That'd be some vintage stuff.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Hey, I my son at you know high is bitter,
- 19:35Speaker 4: it smells fresh.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Four two five chicken frige taking Papa gous Is in
- 19:43Speaker 1: Houston always a great choice. That might be the only
- 19:45Speaker 1: thing good in Houston at one time. Was covering the
- 19:49Speaker 1: A's my esteem. Nick Peters, a Baseball Hall of Fame
- 19:52Speaker 1: writer for the Second One to Be, was a long
- 19:54Speaker 1: time beat writer for the Giants, wrote books on the Giants.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Revered figure in the Giants, Nick Peters said, Greg, we're swinging.
- 20:03Speaker 1: It was my first year on the beat. He said, Greg,
- 20:04Speaker 1: we're switching. You're going to I'm going to New York
- 20:08Speaker 1: and Chicago with the A's, two of his favorite city,
- 20:11Speaker 1: two of the best cities in sports to travel to.
- 20:13Speaker 1: This was in mid July. By the way, Greg, You're
- 20:16Speaker 1: going to Houston and Saint Louis with the Giants. Houston
- 20:21Speaker 1: and Saint Louis in mid July. The first night in
- 20:24Speaker 1: Saint Louis, I'm covering the Giants in Barry Bonds was
- 20:30Speaker 1: back for a fly ball and loses it in moths.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It was so humid in Saint Louis that night there
- 20:35Speaker 1: were moths overtaking the stadium. There was an outdoor press
- 20:38Speaker 1: box in Bush Stadium, then the old Bush Stadium, and
- 20:41Speaker 1: he lost the ball in the moth. It went off
- 20:44Speaker 1: of Barry Bonds's head and went over the wall. It
- 20:47Speaker 1: was the only time after a game that I ever
- 20:48Speaker 1: spoke to Barry Bonds at his locker, and he was
- 20:50Speaker 1: jovial and joking about it. He was laughing about it.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And then I went to Houston. It was like four
- 20:57Speaker 1: hundred degrees in three hundred percent you made I was
- 21:00Speaker 1: trying to run this younger late twenties. I was running
- 21:03Speaker 1: outside in the morning and people were honking their horns
- 21:07Speaker 1: and pointing at me. People in Houston don't go outside
- 21:10Speaker 1: in the summer, especially it's air conditioning and cement. That's Houston.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And when it's four hundred degrees outside. If you've been
- 21:17Speaker 1: to Houston in July and August, you know what I'm
- 21:18Speaker 1: talking about. No thank you, No thank you. From the
- 21:23Speaker 1: three to six to so Joe from Kitsap. I'm not
- 21:26Speaker 1: a huge soccer fan, but it being in Seattle, I'd
- 21:29Speaker 1: be open to going for the experience, but I only
- 21:31Speaker 1: want to see the US team, and ticket prices would
- 21:34Speaker 1: need to come down to around one hundred dollars to
- 21:36Speaker 1: see the value. Yeah, I get that, I do a
- 21:40Speaker 1: lot of If you're not a true soccer fan, one
- 21:42Speaker 1: hundred and fifty bucks is too expensive right watch it
- 21:46Speaker 1: on TV. I understand that now there will be free
- 21:49Speaker 1: fan fest sites including a barge floating in Elliott Bay
- 21:52Speaker 1: off of one of the piers that you can partake
- 21:55Speaker 1: in this without having to pay a week's worth of
- 21:58Speaker 1: wages to get your family in. Get it so there,
- 22:01Speaker 1: But there will be opportunities to get downtown and be
- 22:04Speaker 1: part of it, and they'll be live broadcast from the
- 22:06Speaker 1: FanFest sites and so you can check that out. It's
- 22:10Speaker 1: not totally you can only pay to get any type
- 22:12Speaker 1: of deal. But yeah, right, no, I totally get it.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I totally get it.
- 22:16Speaker 4: From the two oh six, Downtown Seattle will be a
- 22:18Speaker 4: mad house for World Cup traffic, parking, et cetera, in
- 22:21Speaker 4: competition with Mariners.
- 22:22Speaker 1: No thanks the two oh six. The market system is
- 22:27Speaker 1: what bringing is bringing World Cup prices down. Please save
- 22:31Speaker 1: your whiny socialist sermons for your loser's affinity. Gave thank
- 22:37Speaker 1: you for the laugh that socialist A former Army officer
- 22:42Speaker 1: West Point cras to be a socialist.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Yes, sir, please know of what you speak? Okay, from
- 22:51Speaker 4: the two oh six. I think actually you already read that.
- 22:55Speaker 4: My apologies. This is from the two six and nineteen
- 22:57Speaker 4: ninety four. My brother and I said we had to
- 22:59Speaker 4: go to a World Cup at CALLI we did it
- 23:01Speaker 4: and it was awesome. I have no desire to go
- 23:03Speaker 4: to the ones here in Seattle and pay an exuberant
- 23:06Speaker 4: amount of money. I will watch it on TV.
- 23:09Speaker 1: YEP, I get it ninety seven to one. I would
- 23:12Speaker 1: love to go. I've been a Sounders fan since the
- 23:14Speaker 1: beginning in seventy four and I was looking forward to this.
- 23:17Speaker 1: But hell to the no, in these prices, I'll be
- 23:21Speaker 1: with Chris watching on TV. Dan seven Moregan originally West Seattle.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Thanks Dan. All right?
- 23:28Speaker 4: Uh here we go from the two to six. Any
- 23:32Speaker 4: rumors on they want to sell the team and give
- 23:33Speaker 4: the proceeds to charity, but they want five hundred dollars
- 23:37Speaker 4: for seats to the game.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Not interested? We talking about the Seahawks. No, I believe
- 23:44Speaker 1: that could be m Sounders. No, the Seahawks are selling
- 23:48Speaker 1: their team with the proceeds Paul g Allen's trust mandated
- 23:53Speaker 1: five hundred bucks for a Seahawk game.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Though that sounds about reasonable, especially considering they're a Super
- 23:57Speaker 4: Bowl champ, that is not reasonable.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Okay, never mind, if you take a family of four,
- 24:01Speaker 1: that's two thousand dollars.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Depends on where you're sitting though, right doesn't matter that's crazy.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Well they don't think it like that.
- 24:07Speaker 1: That is crazy. Super Bowl tickets thirty nine hundred dollars
- 24:11Speaker 1: face value. You better be, you better bringing in some
- 24:15Speaker 1: serious you know that. I know season ticket holders who
- 24:18Speaker 1: were glad they didn't win the lottery last year. Well yeah,
- 24:21Speaker 1: because okay, yeah, because they didn't want to be in
- 24:23Speaker 1: a position of turning down winning the lottery for nine
- 24:26Speaker 1: thousand dollars for themselves and their wife or one of
- 24:28Speaker 1: their kids. Going got the note on the super Sonic
- 24:31Speaker 1: cologne from the Tuo side came out in seventy seven. Damn.
- 24:36Speaker 1: So that is vintage.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Glass bottle shaped like a trophy with the Sonics logo
- 24:40Speaker 4: on it.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Hey man, really yeah? Seventy seven? It says came on
- 24:45Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy seven, forty nine years ago. He's got
- 24:48Speaker 1: colonne from forty nine years. If he ever used that,
- 24:51Speaker 1: I'm assuming it's he.
- 24:53Speaker 5: If he ever used that, that would be either that
- 24:55Speaker 5: would be the most attractive Colonne ever or the most
- 24:59Speaker 5: repulsive of rancid forty nine years spoiled.
- 25:04Speaker 1: What would that? I guess that would be great? Huh vintage?
- 25:07Speaker 1: Is it like wine? The longer you wait? Oh, I
- 25:10Speaker 1: don't know.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Okay, you know what, that's really cool? Yeah, in for me,
- 25:15Speaker 4: last one for me, because this also could this also
- 25:18Speaker 4: is true. You're kind of correct. Padres and Spanish is dead,
- 25:21Speaker 4: but I'm pretty sure it means the priest. We call
- 25:23Speaker 4: it padre a priest in Spanish.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Yes, it is also known as father in Cathariny. You
- 25:29Speaker 1: forgot all about. Yes, but it also is colloquial. Those
- 25:33Speaker 1: friends I have that speak Spanish that padres de madre
- 25:35Speaker 1: and padre so the priest are whooping behind on and
- 25:39Speaker 1: you know that. Yeah, well do you know what? The
- 25:41Speaker 1: logo and the mascot of a Friar are called the
- 25:45Speaker 1: Friars in San Diego, and in fact it's a priest
- 25:49Speaker 1: in a brown hood cape. That is the logo the mascot.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Now I want to do a deep dive on every
- 25:55Speaker 4: single team. Now, yeah, trash can is easy. You don't
- 25:58Speaker 4: have to have to worry on that one. We know what,
- 26:01Speaker 4: you know, you got a couple more to go, but
- 26:02Speaker 4: it's all good.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Wow, all right about that? Duh? Yeah, the Friars insane Ago,
- 26:09Speaker 1: they're known as the Friars. Listen here two six. I
- 26:11Speaker 1: did learn some Spanish. I just stopped out for Spanish too.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I should have continued the four two five. Wants to
- 26:18Speaker 1: know if I'm willing on that bet, saying that Kyle
- 26:22Speaker 1: Rawy could miss two months and I'm willing to bet
- 26:24Speaker 1: the Mariners will be within three games of first place.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Willing to bet you have to wear a Navy hat
- 26:30Speaker 1: or shirt on camera if you lose. That's a great deal, man.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Well that's but see, that's a multi prong bet because one,
- 26:36Speaker 1: Kyle Rawley has to be out for two months, and
- 26:39Speaker 1: two then the Mariners would have to be within three games.
- 26:42Speaker 1: You said it, and the listeners are saying, yeah, Greg,
- 26:44Speaker 1: all right, so what if they what if it is true?
- 26:47Speaker 1: What is what does the listener have to do? How
- 26:50Speaker 1: about one hundred push ups in the studio? We got
- 26:52Speaker 1: to bring him in here. He's got to do He
- 26:54Speaker 1: and I do one hundred push ups? Geez? How many
- 26:56Speaker 1: reps can you get out before you get tired? Sixty?
- 26:58Speaker 1: I can get to seventy. Take a break. Dang, that's
- 27:02Speaker 1: clickerboard in the military. You know what a clickerboard is.
- 27:05Speaker 1: But how about that? All right? Four two five, I'll
- 27:09Speaker 1: take you on your bet, because this is all predicated
- 27:11Speaker 1: on Rawley's gonna have to miss two months, that's about right.
- 27:15Speaker 1: But if he does and they are within three games
- 27:18Speaker 1: on July fifteenth, the first place, if they are within
- 27:21Speaker 1: three games, four two five has to come into the
- 27:23Speaker 1: studio and do one hundred push ups with me on
- 27:26Speaker 1: live on YouTube.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Is there a time limit to get this done? Under
- 27:29Speaker 4: two minutes? In my APF T days it was two minutes.
- 27:33Speaker 4: I could do that, but that would suck.
- 27:35Speaker 1: But I I can do about seventy uninterrupted without stopping,
- 27:39Speaker 1: and then I have to stop and breaking. But if
- 27:42Speaker 1: I if they don't, if they're not within three games,
- 27:45Speaker 1: the first place, with cal Rawley being out for two months,
- 27:47Speaker 1: all right, I'll wear some squid gear. Got him calling
- 27:52Speaker 1: a squid gear.
- 27:54Speaker 4: I'm sorry for all the Navy folks that are like,
- 27:56Speaker 4: who is this Greg Bell talking about squid gear.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'll come up, dude. Yeah, Oh that was good. Three
- 28:02Speaker 1: six So Seahawks travel miles with relatively good comparison to
- 28:05Speaker 1: the Ram. That is true. The Rams have thirty four thousand,
- 28:08Speaker 1: the forty nine ers have thirty five thousand. The Seahawks
- 28:11Speaker 1: usually over thirty. They're only in twenty two thousand and
- 28:13Speaker 1: ninth most, but the forty nine Ers and Rams of
- 28:16Speaker 1: course have thirty five and thirty four thousand because they're
- 28:18Speaker 1: going all the way across the other side of globe
- 28:20Speaker 1: and back to Australia for the first game. The forty
- 28:22Speaker 1: nine Ers had had the longest streak of not having
- 28:24Speaker 1: any international games. I think it was eleven or twelve years,
- 28:26Speaker 1: So hell with them. They haven't gone anywhere for as
- 28:31Speaker 1: far fun as they are supposedly are, it's really fun
- 28:33Speaker 1: to listen to Baltimore, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago writers complain about
- 28:38Speaker 1: travel when they go about four thousand and five thousand
- 28:41Speaker 1: miles a year. The Sea Hawks are these Steelers. Some
- 28:45Speaker 1: of their games are bus ride to Cleveland. It's like
- 28:48Speaker 1: a two hour bus ride and they take a bus.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Philadelphia takes trains to New York for games. The players.
- 28:54Speaker 1: That's happened before. Yeah, that's you got a little what
- 28:57Speaker 1: the quickest trip is two and a half three hours. Oh,
- 28:59Speaker 1: but we live in Seattle. We don't live in Cleveland,
- 29:01Speaker 1: so that's good. You're kind of Oh, you got that already,
- 29:06Speaker 1: all right. I think it's either Anderson Hurst or Ian Finness.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I never know who's coming in next. On ninety three
- 29:10Speaker 1: point three KJRFM, Welcome back Greg Mell Show with Christopher Kid.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Chris and I just had an interesting discussion on baseball
- 29:21Speaker 1: mascots and the origins of them. And someone asked me,
- 29:24Speaker 1: I'm glad they did about the A's and why there
- 29:27Speaker 1: is an elephant standing on top of a baseball for
- 29:29Speaker 1: the Yeah, where did the elephant come from? I covered
- 29:31Speaker 1: the A's, so I know this story. It dates to
- 29:34Speaker 1: the early nineteen hundred, nineteen oh two. Yeahcus, no the
- 29:40Speaker 1: Hall of Fame or the Hall of Fame. Manager John
- 29:43Speaker 1: McGraw of the New York Giants made public comments about
- 29:47Speaker 1: how he thought the A's were getting in Philadelphia Athletics
- 29:51Speaker 1: at the time. We're getting an unfair advantage on buying
- 29:53Speaker 1: all the best players in the league. And he said
- 29:57Speaker 1: that the Asis have changed. Yeah, exactly, funny how that comes, right?
- 30:03Speaker 1: And John McGrath said that he the Philadelphia A's owner
- 30:07Speaker 1: must have a white elephant on it, probably has a
- 30:09Speaker 1: white elephant on his hands, meaning a burden. And so
- 30:14Speaker 1: Connie Mack, another Hall of Fame right, Philadelphia A's manager
- 30:17Speaker 1: of the time, said, Aha, We're going to make a
- 30:20Speaker 1: white elephant our mascot. I leaned into it. Let's go,
- 30:23Speaker 1: and now the white elephant has become Stomper. That's the
- 30:26Speaker 1: name of the A's mascot. My kids have Stomper dolls
- 30:30Speaker 1: still to this day from when we were they were
- 30:31Speaker 1: babies and I was covering the A's stomper. Yes, but
- 30:35Speaker 1: that's the origin is that John McGraw called the A's
- 30:38Speaker 1: owner having a white elephant, and Connie Max said, Oh,
- 30:40Speaker 1: that's going to be our mascot. So now you know,
- 30:42Speaker 1: thanks for asking. On the text line, that's the voice
- 30:45Speaker 1: of Anderson Hurst. He's going to be in on Monday
- 30:47Speaker 1: for me. He's gonna be on the show next.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Let's see if Anderson knows this, because I was a
- 30:52Speaker 4: good question. So someone on the text line was like, Yo,
- 30:57Speaker 4: why does Greg call the San Diego padres the dad's.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Know that one.
- 31:02Speaker 6: It's really it's because married ar padre translated to English
- 31:07Speaker 6: is dad or father?
- 31:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that that backfire. A lot of people in the
- 31:13Speaker 1: Texas didn't know that really well, we didn't put we
- 31:16Speaker 1: we knew what the Spanish word meant, we just didn't
- 31:19Speaker 1: put it together. We just were like, why is he
- 31:21Speaker 1: calling them dad's dads? Exactly. The trash cans.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Well, that was simple, really simple. I guess I could
- 31:29Speaker 4: be wrong on both.
- 31:30Speaker 6: Ends, but hey, I do love when you're talking about mascots.
- 31:32Speaker 6: The Friar, Yes, as the Padre. That's that's really cool.
- 31:36Speaker 1: They are And in San Diego they're known as the Friars.
- 31:39Speaker 1: That's what they're called. And in fact, the old Qualcomm Stadium,
- 31:43Speaker 1: the road, the main road street to get into Qualcombe
- 31:47Speaker 1: Stadium was called Friar's Drive Drive. It was a I
- 31:50Speaker 1: covered a Super Bowl off Friar's Drive Stadium.
- 31:53Speaker 6: I've heard really good things about now pet Co Park.
- 31:55Speaker 6: It's one of the best stadiums.
- 31:56Speaker 1: In Garry Hill Junior. Just on what the Scenarigo said,
- 31:58Speaker 1: that's his favorite part. A lot of people like it.
- 32:01Speaker 1: It's and the location is unbelievable. Gaslin District of San Diego.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Anderson Hurst is going to be in pinchionting for me
- 32:07Speaker 1: on Monday. I am going to be at a military ball.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I was just mentioning I'm going to be in a tuxedo,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and Anderson looked at up. When the last time you
- 32:16Speaker 1: were in a tuxedo? And I started thinking, I don't
- 32:18Speaker 1: think I've ever been in a tuxedo. This don't mean
- 32:20Speaker 1: my first time ever, because when I got married, I'm
- 32:23Speaker 1: for prom I don't think I think I wore a suit.
- 32:26Speaker 1: And maybe I wore a tuxedo for prompt. This was
- 32:28Speaker 1: nineteen eighty eight eighty nine, so I probably had a
- 32:31Speaker 1: everyone tuxes during the time. Chris, Chris is just a gast.
- 32:40Speaker 1: I don't have a cane. I did walk in under
- 32:42Speaker 1: my own power. This is the man that can do
- 32:44Speaker 1: fifty seventy push ups in a row. So there's no
- 32:46Speaker 1: shade here. No shade. But I don't think you're right, Andrews.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I probably wore it for my senior year prom in
- 32:51Speaker 1: nineteen eighty nine and Stuben of Ohio big red. But
- 32:56Speaker 1: my wedding I wore my army whites. That's one of
- 33:01Speaker 1: my favorite traditions, by the way, and I was a
- 33:03Speaker 1: captain at the time and my mom insisted I wanted
- 33:06Speaker 1: to wear a tuxedo. My mom said, no, you're wearing
- 33:08Speaker 1: dress whites, a military your dressiest military uniform. I didn't
- 33:11Speaker 1: have it because we didn't have it for duty. So
- 33:13Speaker 1: I had the special order it from Baltimore Wow, and
- 33:16Speaker 1: I ordered it cost a few hundred dollars, maybe close
- 33:19Speaker 1: to one thousand back then, cheaper than tuxedos. Probably that's true.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I just ran into tuxedo in a store here that
- 33:28Speaker 1: it's actually a man's warehouse that's right outside of my
- 33:30Speaker 1: daughter's place in Connecticut. It costs three hundred dollars one
- 33:34Speaker 1: for one night. I'm wearing the Sean Connery double seventy
- 33:38Speaker 1: eight fat bow tie nineteen sixty franc sinop. Not the
- 33:43Speaker 1: clip on, no, not the skinny no, no no, I'm
- 33:46Speaker 1: wearing bring it on, tear drop. Let's go. So that's
- 33:49Speaker 1: what I'll be doing Monday. Should we call in on
- 33:51Speaker 1: Greg during the show? Do that? Like check in on
- 33:53Speaker 1: him so you be all right?
- 33:55Speaker 4: And when he doesn't answer, exactly answer if you guys
- 33:58Speaker 4: call there's a lot of pressure Greg. I know, we
- 34:01Speaker 4: don't know when we could be called. Well, actually we
- 34:03Speaker 4: do know, but timing might not think. You might not
- 34:06Speaker 4: think the time will work.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Until you get down you're like, oh, yeah, I'm going
- 34:08Speaker 1: to be on a golf course at the Mohegan Sun
- 34:10Speaker 1: on Monday morning at that at the time the show's
- 34:13Speaker 1: going on, because we're going to have a golf tournament
- 34:15Speaker 1: with the cadets, My daughter and I and her best
- 34:17Speaker 1: friend and her father from Boston. We're all gonna I've
- 34:21Speaker 1: got a Seahawks gag. You're a golf guy. I'm not, Oh,
- 34:24Speaker 1: but I'm becoming one. Okay. I golfed before my kids
- 34:27Speaker 1: are born, and as you now know as a dad,
- 34:29Speaker 1: once the kids are born, your wife goes. You ain't
- 34:31Speaker 1: hitting golf ball for six hours much get these kids
- 34:34Speaker 1: much less time to do that. My golf game stopped
- 34:36Speaker 1: when I had two kids, and they really haven't picked
- 34:38Speaker 1: it up since. What are you got going today? We
- 34:40Speaker 1: got to talk to Danny O'Neill.
- 34:42Speaker 6: I'm excited because one of his best friends, Jess McIntyre
- 34:45Speaker 6: is is producing today and co hosting as well.
- 34:48Speaker 1: We got were wearing all the hats today is the
- 34:51Speaker 1: Infernes will give Danny a dutifully hard time. I know
- 34:54Speaker 1: she will.
- 34:54Speaker 6: Oh, And I'm excited for and I'm here for and
- 34:56Speaker 6: I'm going to take a backseat to that conversation. So
- 34:58Speaker 6: I can't wait to talk to him and see what
- 35:00Speaker 6: his thoughts are. We got Tighten Gonzalez from Lockdown Mariners
- 35:02Speaker 6: coming on at two o'clock. I'm gonna ask him about
- 35:04Speaker 6: the cal Rawley situation, the six man rotation, if it's
- 35:07Speaker 6: the right move and kind of, you know, looking forward,
- 35:10Speaker 6: how how confident is he that Mitch Garver's gonna kind
- 35:14Speaker 6: of fill the role or is he, like, as we
- 35:17Speaker 6: talked about yesterday, at this current version of cal Rawley,
- 35:20Speaker 6: is Mitch Garver a better option right now? So I'm
- 35:22Speaker 6: excited to kind of pick his brain on that one
- 35:25Speaker 6: as him and I work together with lockdown Mariners.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Garryhill Junior told us a little about forty five minutes
- 35:29Speaker 1: ago that he thinks, yeah, we could to cal Rawley.
- 35:33Speaker 1: First of all, was probably they kept him too long.
- 35:35Speaker 6: Yeah, they did well, And it's one of those things
- 35:37Speaker 6: where you know, a lot of people like to trash
- 35:40Speaker 6: on Mitch Garver, But I still think he's a much,
- 35:42Speaker 6: very capable backup catcher and probably one of the best
- 35:45Speaker 6: backup catchers in baseball if you really think about it
- 35:48Speaker 6: and look across the league at the different situations. But
- 35:51Speaker 6: I think, and he proved it yesterday with a nice
- 35:53Speaker 6: home run in a big moment. I think he's gonna
- 35:55Speaker 6: have a little bit of a run here. As you know,
- 35:57Speaker 6: an everyday player, a lot of people like routine He's
- 35:59Speaker 6: probably will be one of those guys. So I'm excited
- 36:01Speaker 6: for him to get a couple opportunities here. Yeah, and
- 36:04Speaker 6: after he endured a lot of crap. Yes he did,
- 36:07Speaker 6: Yes he did. It would be so poetic for him
- 36:10Speaker 6: to just go on an absolute tear as an everyday
- 36:13Speaker 6: catcher while cal Rawly is out.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So not that we're.
- 36:16Speaker 6: Saying we expect him to be better than calrawl in
- 36:18Speaker 6: the long term or anything like that, but you have
- 36:20Speaker 6: a good option to fill the gap.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I have a bet with the listener that if Cara
- 36:24Speaker 1: missed two months that the Mariners will still be within
- 36:26Speaker 1: three games of first place. You say no, I said, yes,
- 36:29Speaker 1: I agree. I think maybe in first place. I think
- 36:31Speaker 1: they will still be in first place. Yeah, but we
- 36:33Speaker 1: have a bet. I mean, that's it.
- 36:34Speaker 6: If he misses two months, that's right, He's on a
- 36:37Speaker 6: ten day I l but we all know about obleaques.
- 36:38Speaker 6: They can take quite a bit of time.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Luke Raley should have been on the IR he was.
- 36:43Speaker 1: It was a bleak. Never got better last year. Last year, No,
- 36:46Speaker 1: it did not. We saw what happened to Bryce Miller too.
- 36:48Speaker 1: That's what happened. Jesson's given me ego and think I
- 36:51Speaker 1: gotta get out of here, all right, that's my fault,
- 36:52Speaker 1: jess I'm sorry, Thank you both, Thank you all for
- 36:55Speaker 1: listening to Chris Kid and I. I will be back
- 36:57Speaker 1: on Friday of next week and my daughter will be
- 36:59Speaker 1: an Insign Coast Guard by then. Thanks to Anderson Hurst
- 37:02Speaker 1: and Jessamin mcintye. They're up next on ninety three point
- 37:05Speaker 1: three KJRFM
