- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for we're back to the basics and healthcare
- 0:02Speaker 1: with Balance Life Chiropractic. We're here with doctor Harley and
- 0:04Speaker 1: we're talking back to school. And I'm excited to talk
- 0:06Speaker 1: about the back to school bugs because this is something
- 0:09Speaker 1: that again, people, it's not just me. I remember every
- 0:13Speaker 1: time I'd go back to school, it seemed like I'd
- 0:14Speaker 1: come home with something new, and I would always call
- 0:17Speaker 1: it cooties. But it's not cooties, is it right?
- 0:20Speaker 2: You know, you spend all summer kind of isolated with
- 0:22Speaker 2: your family or your kids are isolated at home, and
- 0:25Speaker 2: now all of a sudden, we're back in school and
- 0:27Speaker 2: that Petrie dish is full and thriving, full of lots
- 0:31Speaker 2: of bugs and bacteria.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And for me, I was out in the fresh air
- 0:34Speaker 1: and in the sunshine. And now I think kids maybe
- 0:37Speaker 1: are not quite as much out, you know, riding their
- 0:39Speaker 1: bikes and doing the fun stuff. But if you're used
- 0:42Speaker 1: to fresh air, sunshine, and then all of a sudden
- 0:45Speaker 1: you're stuck in a classroom with a bunch of other
- 0:46Speaker 1: weird kids, all of a sudden, it's like we all
- 0:49Speaker 1: bring stuff home, right, you know.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, during the summertime, you're out running around, you're just
- 0:53Speaker 2: with your family. You know, you're sleeping maybe a little better,
- 0:56Speaker 2: less stress. And then once we get to that new
- 0:58Speaker 2: school year, rules are changing, We're waking up earlier or
- 1:03Speaker 2: more stressed out with the running around, the schedule.
- 1:06Speaker 3: All of that. So that just really attacks our immune system.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Plus adding in all of those new viruses and bugs
- 1:13Speaker 2: that are going to weaken your immune system further. So
- 1:15Speaker 2: it's really common for kids to get sick and parents
- 1:17Speaker 2: because your kids are bringing it home getting sick within
- 1:20Speaker 2: the first couple of weeks of school. But there are
- 1:22Speaker 2: things you can do to help prevent or at least
- 1:24Speaker 2: alleviate some of the major issues.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Let's talk about that. What are some of the things
- 1:27Speaker 1: you can do to avoid some of these back to
- 1:29Speaker 1: school cooties.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Well, like we talked about last week, is you know,
- 1:32Speaker 2: making sure that you're ready for the school year, getting
- 1:35Speaker 2: your nervous system check, go to the chiropractor, having your
- 1:37Speaker 2: schedule all figured out, you know, getting the kids ready
- 1:40Speaker 2: for that, doing the early morning wake ups ahead of time,
- 1:44Speaker 2: you know, even doing maybe prepping the night before the
- 1:47Speaker 2: day for school, having lunches and all that. Just making
- 1:49Speaker 2: sure that you're not scrambling and going crazy in the
- 1:52Speaker 2: morning of the school day.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And then when it comes to your health and chiropractic
- 1:57Speaker 1: in part of the mix here, just getting every thing
- 2:00Speaker 1: communicating in your body so that way you can kind
- 2:02Speaker 1: of help fight off any of this stuff too.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Right, our nervous system controls our immune system. So when
- 2:06Speaker 2: our nervous system is functioning at its best, most optimal,
- 2:09Speaker 2: our immune system is going to be functioning and working
- 2:12Speaker 2: much better, much faster as well. So if you do
- 2:14Speaker 2: get sick, because it's kind of inevitable sometimes, right, you're
- 2:17Speaker 2: able to fight it off faster because your immune system
- 2:19Speaker 2: is functioning better.
- 2:21Speaker 3: But there's other things as well.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Making sure that you're getting plenty of sleep, Drinking lots
- 2:25Speaker 2: of fluids, you know, mostly water, right, we want to
- 2:27Speaker 2: drink it like sixty four fluid ounces of water is
- 2:30Speaker 2: kind of the minimum kind of half your body weight
- 2:32Speaker 2: ounces is where we want to sit with that, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 2: trying to eat a more balanced diet, you know, for
- 2:37Speaker 2: eating fast food. Make sure that we're eating salads as well.
- 2:40Speaker 2: You know, sugar is a really big one. Trying to
- 2:43Speaker 2: lower you know, how much sugar that we're really eating.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Nice And I'm going to go back to the adjustment stuff,
- 2:50Speaker 1: because in my mind I had this perfect little picture
- 2:53Speaker 1: of what that would be. So imagine, because you're trying
- 2:56Speaker 1: to fight.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Off these bugs, right right, So.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Imagine if like your body, you've got all these soldiers
- 3:00Speaker 1: all over the body, and now you can't communicate because
- 3:03Speaker 1: something's pinched or something's blocked, or something's not working, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: they can't call in all the troops to help. But
- 3:08Speaker 1: if you get it all adjusted, you can call in
- 3:09Speaker 1: the troops, and by doing that, you have so much
- 3:12Speaker 1: more uh everything kind of working together to fight this
- 3:15Speaker 1: stuff off. I don't know if that's even Am I
- 3:17Speaker 1: a weirdo?
- 3:18Speaker 2: No?
- 3:18Speaker 3: I think that was pretty good.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:19Speaker 3: It's you should have said to look at your face.
- 3:21Speaker 1: That is not with the look at her face that
- 3:23Speaker 1: she looked at me like you are such a weirdo.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It's always like more's John going with this, and it's like, yeah, no,
- 3:27Speaker 2: I think you've learned quite a bit. You know.
- 3:29Speaker 3: We can look at our body kind of like a.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Castle fortress, and the best way to keep the bugs
- 3:34Speaker 2: and invaders out is to keep our castle fortress going strong.
- 3:38Speaker 2: But see it's inevitable they will eventually get in and
- 3:40Speaker 2: they'll find a way in. So we want to make
- 3:42Speaker 2: sure those defenders are in tip top shape ready to
- 3:45Speaker 2: fight them off.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And if we want to get everything communicating properly, one
- 3:48Speaker 1: of the best things to do is communicate with doctor Harley,
- 3:50Speaker 1: a Balanced Life Chiropractic. How do they get in touch
- 3:52Speaker 1: with you to kind of get everything set up?
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's as simple as give us a phone call.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Our phone number is six or five two one five
- 3:58Speaker 2: one seven eight five. A book online option
