- 0:23you, I've left a link in the show notes.
- 0:26Now let's dive into today's quote from an unknown author.
- 0:31But it may be one of the most quietly liberating things that
- 0:35you're going to hear this week. Someone, somewhere may have once
- 0:41said you are not responsible for the version of you that exists
- 0:46in someone else's mind. Wow.
- 0:51Read that one again. You are not responsible for the
- 0:55version of you that exists in someone else's mind.
- 1:00Think about how much energy most of us been doing exactly the
- 1:04opposite of that. Managing perceptions, explaining
- 1:08ourselves, correcting misunderstandings, Worrying
- 1:13about what someone thinks of us based on a conversation we had
- 1:17three years ago, A decision they misread, a moment they witnessed
- 1:22out of context. We carry the weight of other
- 1:25people's versions of us, versions we didn't author and
- 1:29can't control, as if they're our responsibility to fix.
- 1:35Here's the truth this quote is pointing at.
- 1:39Every person who has ever met you has built their own internal
- 1:44version of you, filtered through their experiences, their own
- 1:48wounds, their own assumptions, and their own limited
- 1:52information. That version isn't you.
- 1:56It's a construct, A portrait painted by someone else with
- 2:00their own brushes and their own palette.
- 2:03And no matter how carefully you live, how clearly you
- 2:08communicate, or how consistently you show up, you cannot fully
- 2:13control what that portrait looks like, because people will
- 2:18misread you. They'll remember you wrong.
- 2:22They'll hold a version of you that's outdated, incomplete, or
- 2:26simply inaccurate. That is not a problem you
- 2:30created, and it certainly is not a problem you can solve.
- 2:36What you are responsible for is the version of you that you're
- 2:40actively creating through your choices, your actions, your
- 2:44integrity, and how you treat people.
- 2:47That version belongs to you. The rest belongs to them.
- 2:54So here's the question. Whose version of you are you
- 2:58currently carrying that was never yours to manage in the 1st
- 3:02place? Because you can set it down
- 3:06right now. You are not the portrait someone
- 3:09else painted of you. You are the person standing in
- 3:12front of that canvas, choosing who to be next.
- 3:17That version, That one's yours detected.
- 3:22Build it and let the rest of them go.
- 3:27That's it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
- 3:30for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:34Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
