- 0:04Speaker 1: Big Week, Big big Week. We're getting consistent moves flowing through,
- 0:09Speaker 1: including over the past twenty four hours. It's not the
- 0:12Speaker 1: world's biggest names, but they are names that are going
- 0:14Speaker 1: to be impactful, especially in the bullpen, so we're about
- 0:17Speaker 1: to get into that. I do still think that we
- 0:20Speaker 1: will have some major moves in the pipe over the
- 0:23Speaker 1: next few days. I think one or two big boy
- 0:26Speaker 1: free agents like on the top ten could sign before
- 0:29Speaker 1: the holidays, and then Todd Father. We have a bunch
- 0:33Speaker 1: of posting deadlines, so there's no signing deadline for anyone
- 0:36Speaker 1: except the Japanese talent or international talent in general. I
- 0:40Speaker 1: should say with a posting fee, if you're tied to
- 0:42Speaker 1: a posting fee, you have a window to do something.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And Morikami, for example, has to sign by Monday night.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So I think that one will go down and that
- 0:52Speaker 1: will be interesting to see where he ends up. I
- 0:54Speaker 1: think the market is funky, we went over it the
- 0:57Speaker 1: other day. But also for more Kami, I think that
- 1:01Speaker 1: he could end up on a variety of clubs. We
- 1:03Speaker 1: often see the Japanese players coming over to the same
- 1:06Speaker 1: place like La and a few others in contention. You know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: for a while it was Seattle, now New York. The
- 1:14Speaker 1: Mets have gotten Sanga, the Cubs have gotten seas Azuki
- 1:17Speaker 1: and the Managa. But I think Mark Commy could end
- 1:19Speaker 1: up in a kind of more random market that doesn't
- 1:23Speaker 1: usually recruit Japanese talent as much.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Let me ask you this question.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I always find it amazing, Well, not a question I'll
- 1:32Speaker 3: ask you after, but I always find it amazing how
- 1:34Speaker 3: the numbers seem to always be around the same, like
- 1:37Speaker 3: somebody wants for these Japanese talent, Like somebody has to
- 1:42Speaker 3: talk because you're not going to get a team that
- 1:44Speaker 3: comes in that says three years twenty million, and then
- 1:47Speaker 3: you got ten teams that say five years, one hundred
- 1:50Speaker 3: and fifteen million, Like how do how does it always
- 1:53Speaker 3: come around the same, Like, oh, well.
- 1:55Speaker 2: You know the Yankees didn't get him.
- 1:56Speaker 3: They were they were about a million off in it,
- 1:58Speaker 3: Like it seems like they're all really so close to
- 2:01Speaker 3: the price payment. So that's that's one question I would
- 2:04Speaker 3: love to ask owners and everybody else.
- 2:06Speaker 2: But yeah, I can answer for you. Go ahead, what
- 2:09Speaker 2: do you got? Well?
- 2:09Speaker 1: Because this is interesting. This is going to play right
- 2:12Speaker 1: into our first topic coming up in a moment, But
- 2:15Speaker 1: You'll see two players sign within minutes and get the
- 2:19Speaker 1: same offer, and you can look at it innocently and say, well,
- 2:24Speaker 1: they just saw that signing, they took it to teams
- 2:27Speaker 1: and said we'll sign for the same thing. Or you
- 2:29Speaker 1: could flip it and say the teams called and all
- 2:32Speaker 1: outfered the same thing. We have had many players on
- 2:35Speaker 1: this show appear and say they get calls at the
- 2:38Speaker 1: same time with the same rates. Technically, that's what. Yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 1: that's happened to you. Wait, tell me the story real quick,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and then we'll get into these signings.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I forget what year it was it was, and then
- 2:52Speaker 2: I think I signed with.
- 2:55Speaker 3: The Rangers. It was either the Rangers or yeah, the
- 2:57Speaker 3: Rangers year. But two teams came to me with the
- 3:00Speaker 3: and then you know, a day or two and said
- 3:01Speaker 3: like it was like one year, three million. And then
- 3:06Speaker 3: my agent calls me, You're not gonna believe this. This
- 3:07Speaker 3: team said the same thing. I'm like, oh, weird, how
- 3:12Speaker 3: much people are talking.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I guess, so, yeah, that's that's basically what happened.
- 3:17Speaker 1: You know what's funny, Todd is they're actually not allowed
- 3:19Speaker 1: to talk. There's a there's a word for that. It's
- 3:22Speaker 1: called collusion. You're not allowed to call other teams and say, hey,
- 3:26Speaker 1: let's all offer this guy the same thing. There have
- 3:28Speaker 1: been cases and settlements and everything, right, but Seeligue oversaw
- 3:34Speaker 1: that at one point. It's really Kratz's favorite thing. Kratz
- 3:37Speaker 1: loves when players all get phone calls with the same
- 3:39Speaker 1: offer at the same time.
- 3:42Speaker 4: It irritates me and I would love it if your
- 3:44Speaker 4: number was like three point one five million and they
- 3:49Speaker 4: both offered the exact same number, because I've heard I've
- 3:52Speaker 4: heard countless going all the way back to twenty twelve
- 3:56Speaker 4: where my buddy got offered two years, one point nine
- 4:00Speaker 4: million dollars the same afternoon from two teams completely different
- 4:07Speaker 4: points in their I mean both playoff contending teams, but
- 4:11Speaker 4: one on the East coast, one on the West coast.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Come on one point nine million for two years, call
- 4:17Speaker 4: in the same afternoon, and we're supposed to sit back
- 4:19Speaker 4: and say.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Well, we're investigating collusion.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Stop. They don't even have to call each other anymore,
- 4:25Speaker 4: because we just talked about it yesterday. They're centralizing all
- 4:28Speaker 4: of the data. Well, that's easy. Centralize it and just
- 4:33Speaker 4: plug in, plug in the number that you want to
- 4:36Speaker 4: pay for the guy, and that's an easy way to
- 4:39Speaker 4: lower everybody's value. You're never going to figure it out
- 4:42Speaker 4: for the superstars, But who cares. That doesn't cost teams
- 4:46Speaker 4: a lot. It's the eighty five percent of the guys
- 4:48Speaker 4: that they pay, like Todd Fraser three million dollars. If
- 4:51Speaker 4: they can lower that by half a million, huh, they're
- 4:54Speaker 4: saving millions. Now.
- 4:58Speaker 1: This is the stuff that no other show talks about,
- 5:01Speaker 1: or maybe some doing I'm missing them, but I just
- 5:03Speaker 1: think it's an important piece of the puzzle, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I mean, Todd Father. There's a lot of former players
- 5:09Speaker 1: that are on this show. There's no doubt about that,
- 5:11Speaker 1: although we do have former gms and managers and all that.
- 5:14Speaker 1: But I do think it's worth pointing things like this
- 5:16Speaker 1: out when someone looks and they're like, Wow, two guys
- 5:20Speaker 1: signed at the same time for the same money. It's
- 5:23Speaker 1: amazing how that works the chances. Kratz, did you like
- 5:27Speaker 1: my example I gave you when we talked about this earlier.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Was that relevant enough to bring up on the show?
- 5:33Speaker 1: It is? Okay the jelly beans? Yeah, absolutely, okay, So
- 5:38Speaker 1: Todd Father, I don't know if they still do this
- 5:42Speaker 1: with the kiddos anywhere I'm not affair or at schools. Okay,
- 5:45Speaker 1: they do this, so Todd father, right, you got the
- 5:47Speaker 1: kiddos and they go up to the jelly bean jar
- 5:50Speaker 1: and they're going to guess the number, and whoever guess
- 5:53Speaker 1: is closest to the number wins the jelly bean jar. Sure,
- 5:55Speaker 1: it'd be weird. What if you open up each piece
- 6:00Speaker 1: of paper that was put into the hat every number
- 6:03Speaker 1: is the same. Yeah, what are the chances everybody's getting
- 6:07Speaker 1: the same phone call at the same time with the
- 6:08Speaker 1: same numbers. How does that work?
- 6:11Speaker 2: I know that would That would be collusion.
- 6:14Speaker 1: That would be collusion, and that is how you teach
- 6:17Speaker 1: kids collusion. Anyway, let's get to some of those collusion deals.
- 6:21Speaker 1: We can say whatever we want. Listen, it can't be proven.
- 6:25Speaker 1: There are very smart people that are able to put
- 6:27Speaker 1: programs together and you can make phone calls. It would
- 6:30Speaker 1: take a lot to do it. But when everyone's getting
- 6:32Speaker 1: the same not everyone, When guys like mid level and
- 6:35Speaker 1: lower level free agents quote according to the list, not
- 6:38Speaker 1: a listers are getting the same call with the same offers.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Do the math for all the parents out there with
- 6:44Speaker 1: teenagers like crats, we know life's a little crazy.

- 7:48Speaker 1: Two years twenty two million bucks for Luke Weaver as
- 7:52Speaker 1: Bob nightingale ft Insider and USA Today Insider reports he'll
- 7:57Speaker 1: follow Devin Williams and depart the Yankees for the Mets.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It was first reported by Joel Sherman. Also Brad Keller
- 8:03Speaker 1: received the same deal, which we'll get to second here.
- 8:07Speaker 1: But let's start with the Metropolitans. Todd Father, they've had
- 8:10Speaker 1: to pick up the pieces. It's been a tough week
- 8:14Speaker 1: and change for them publicly. But the night is young,
- 8:19Speaker 1: the off season is young, and now it's Devin Williams
- 8:22Speaker 1: and Luke Weaver for high leverage at the back end
- 8:24Speaker 1: of the bullpen. I'll actually start with my first comment here.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I thought Devin Williams definitely had good stuff last year,
- 8:30Speaker 1: but I didn't see a full season of proving that
- 8:33Speaker 1: he can handle the big city. So I think when
- 8:35Speaker 1: you look at his deal relative to Robert Suarez and
- 8:39Speaker 1: to Edwin Diaz, they're in a similar enough range that
- 8:41Speaker 1: I rank him, say third out of those three. On
- 8:44Speaker 1: the opposite end of the spectrum, I think Luke Weaver
- 8:47Speaker 1: at two years, twenty two million is a steal for
- 8:50Speaker 1: the Mets. I think he could end up being the
- 8:52Speaker 1: better reliever in the ninth any guy for the Metropolitans.
- 8:55Speaker 1: So I really like this deal for them.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I agree totally. I do.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You know, he gave up some big hits, but ultimately,
- 9:03Speaker 3: the guy's been very consistent. He's developed a couple of
- 9:06Speaker 3: different pitches. He's a he's a stopper, I call him.
- 9:10Speaker 3: And whenever the Yankees need him last year to kind
- 9:12Speaker 3: of you know, take the fire out a little bit
- 9:15Speaker 3: of a big inning, he came in and did his job. Yeah,
- 9:19Speaker 3: he wonders like if that was what it would take,
- 9:21Speaker 3: you wonder why the Yankees didn't. Maybe I don't know,
- 9:23Speaker 3: maybe they gave a shot too, Maybe the offer just
- 9:25Speaker 3: wasn't there.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Maybe he wanted to change the scenery. But he's going
- 9:29Speaker 2: from one New York team to the next.
- 9:30Speaker 3: And this is the Mets, and these fans they've been dying,
- 9:35Speaker 3: you know, for a playoff team, for a World Series team.
- 9:37Speaker 3: So if he's not he's not producing, they're gonna be
- 9:41Speaker 3: on him early and off and just like what happened
- 9:43Speaker 3: at Yankee Stadium all the time. But again, this is
- 9:47Speaker 3: a guy, this is the true reliever that you really want.
- 9:49Speaker 3: He could be a closer, he could be a long guy.
- 9:51Speaker 3: He could be a set up guy. So good pick
- 9:53Speaker 3: up right there. I think that's the best pickup that
- 9:55Speaker 3: the Mets had recently, and hopefully it'll go up and
- 9:59Speaker 3: up for the Mets.
- 9:59Speaker 4: With their signings a little bit of a drop and
- 10:02Speaker 4: his strikeout rate after he made the change to not
- 10:06Speaker 4: a quick pitch for Luke Weaver, but it was more
- 10:08Speaker 4: like he went to the slidestep and it kind of
- 10:11Speaker 4: got on guys. I think he went over a hundred
- 10:14Speaker 4: strikeouts the first season that he made that change, when
- 10:18Speaker 4: he was a full season with the Yankees, like eighty
- 10:20Speaker 4: some innings, a little bit less innings, dealt with a
- 10:24Speaker 4: little bit of injury, the strikeouts went down a little bit.
- 10:27Speaker 4: I like this signing. I don't necessarily like Luke Weaver
- 10:30Speaker 4: in a ninth inning consistently, so I think that combination
- 10:34Speaker 4: of those two good for the Mets. The Mets have
- 10:38Speaker 4: just been ravaged in the bullpen and you lose your
- 10:41Speaker 4: your only consistent piece in Edwin Diaz. They have to
- 10:45Speaker 4: keep adding and these I think this is a great
- 10:48Speaker 4: This is a great one to two punch for the
- 10:49Speaker 4: back of their back of their bullpen.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And I wouldn't be surprised if they go after yet
- 10:54Speaker 1: another high leverage guy. Those are two high leverage pickups.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They are well aware at how much they have to
- 10:59Speaker 1: make Cup four, not just with Edwin Diez, but with
- 11:01Speaker 1: their pitching staff in general. Their bullpen was falling apart,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and I think it's important for them to probably add
- 11:09Speaker 1: one more in this realm. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 11:11Speaker 1: they still go after someone like Pete Fairbanks right now,
- 11:14Speaker 1: but we'll see next up. Brad Keller Kratz two years,
- 11:20Speaker 1: wait for it, twenty two million dollars and they signed
- 11:25Speaker 1: minutes apart. He goes to the Phillies. Your thoughts on
- 11:28Speaker 1: how this helps the Phills. Brad Keller really emerged. I
- 11:31Speaker 1: mean you look at Weaver to make the comp weavers
- 11:34Speaker 1: breakout season was twenty four. He still was solid in
- 11:36Speaker 1: twenty five. Brad Keller's breakout season was just now.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Very similar in since they're both starters, you know, that's
- 11:43Speaker 4: what relievers are, failed starters. But I think brad Keller's
- 11:49Speaker 4: just sheer size and you look at that and you're like, Okay,
- 11:54Speaker 4: can he sustain it? You'd think he could sustain it.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Luke Weavers stayed hell for the most part. That's really
- 12:01Speaker 4: gonna be the biggest thing with Brad Keller because he
- 12:03Speaker 4: has definitely settled into this relieving role. My fear is
- 12:07Speaker 4: he only did it for one year, so I hope
- 12:10Speaker 4: you look at all the metrics because he was a
- 12:13Speaker 4: non roster invite last year to the Cubs, like non roster,
- 12:16Speaker 4: not a big league invite, and became a huge piece
- 12:18Speaker 4: of that bullpen. Can he sustain it? If it was
- 12:22Speaker 4: three years, I'd be like, eh, I don't like this.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Two years. I'll be interested to see where Pete Fairbanks,
- 12:28Speaker 4: what Pete Fairbanks ends up getting, because I thought he
- 12:31Speaker 4: was like a two year, twenty two million kind of
- 12:33Speaker 4: guy too, So it'll be interesting.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Yeah, And ultimately this is great non roster guy. All
- 12:40Speaker 3: of a sudden, now he's a big piece. It goes
- 12:43Speaker 3: to show you that you keep working your butt off,
- 12:45Speaker 3: you keep working your tail off, good things will happen.
- 12:48Speaker 3: And he had an opportunity, took with it, and now
- 12:50Speaker 3: to make twenty two million dollars in two years, he's
- 12:52Speaker 3: got to be sitting back happy as a clam. Got
- 12:55Speaker 3: holidays coming up, and he's going to go out there
- 12:57Speaker 3: and help the team try and strive to get back
- 12:59Speaker 3: to the playoffs.
- 13:00Speaker 2: And you know when so we'll see, we'll see what happens.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it was dynamite with the results this year RA
- 13:10Speaker 1: plus and we know, I mean they're advanced numbers too
- 13:13Speaker 1: that people liked. It wasn't crazy swing and miss Kratz.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It was almost a strikeout burning for a reliever. That's fine,
- 13:21Speaker 1: that's not elite. But the RA was low twos.
- 13:24Speaker 2: And you're right.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I mean, this is the first time that it really
- 13:26Speaker 1: all came together for him in this role. I know
- 13:29Speaker 1: there were some whispers towards the end of last season, like, oh,
- 13:32Speaker 1: will he turn back into a starter? Oh no, I
- 13:35Speaker 1: mean I would want to ride this out a little
- 13:36Speaker 1: bit and see what it looks like and guess what
- 13:38Speaker 1: not going to happen for him. There's not gonna be
- 13:40Speaker 1: that question Mark and Philly they have plenty of starting
- 13:42Speaker 1: pitching talent. It would take a lot for the Phillies
- 13:44Speaker 1: to fall apart and need someone like this to transition
- 13:47Speaker 1: to that role. Let's get into the taptuya in my market.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Francis Ramires done a nice job breaking some stories the
- 14:00Speaker 1: last few years, including this offseason. He said, around five
- 14:03Speaker 1: MLB teams have shown real interest in the twenty seven
- 14:06Speaker 1: year old Ace. Per industry sources, he expects the Yankees
- 14:11Speaker 1: and the Cubs to be finalists to sign Amy out
- 14:15Speaker 1: of the five that he's got in his head or
- 14:18Speaker 1: that he's hearing from industry sources. Okay, what do we
- 14:23Speaker 1: think of those two? Todd father For me, they both
- 14:27Speaker 1: make sense. The Cubs have Imanaga and they had more
- 14:31Speaker 1: success with them two years ago than they did this
- 14:33Speaker 1: past season. But I still think that signing has been
- 14:35Speaker 1: a success. There is a pipeline to Japan that the
- 14:38Speaker 1: Cubs have built. They were just there this past season
- 14:42Speaker 1: to begin the year. They have both a Managa and
- 14:45Speaker 1: SAOs Azuki, So you've got friends. Not that in Mike cares, right,
- 14:49Speaker 1: he doesn't necessarily care, although it's I mean, he's a talker,
- 14:51Speaker 1: which I like, But it sounds like he's down for
- 14:53Speaker 1: the Cubs and he's not down for the Dodgers, not
- 14:56Speaker 1: that they necessarily want him either, but it sounds like
- 14:58Speaker 1: he wants to beat up on you know, Show Hayes
- 15:01Speaker 1: little dream team of the Monstars, and then the Yankees
- 15:04Speaker 1: you can speak to really well because they're gonna be
- 15:07Speaker 1: missing some guys at the start of the year.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think that would be the best choice
- 15:13Speaker 3: for him for the Yankees to have this guy here.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Am I really good pitcher.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Understandably has been in the spotlight for a long time.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Now know what it's all about. I love what he said.
- 15:24Speaker 3: He said, of course, I'd love to play with show
- 15:26Speaker 3: Hey and Yamamoto and all those guys in Tasaki. But
- 15:30Speaker 3: at the same token, I'm not afraid to go up
- 15:32Speaker 3: against the beast.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 15:33Speaker 3: So yeah, these two teams are perfect match for him.
- 15:37Speaker 3: He would suit well with both of them. But the
- 15:39Speaker 3: Yankees are much need of a starting pitcher right now
- 15:42Speaker 3: and this can only help them out too, So we'll
- 15:45Speaker 3: see pretty soon.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I'd love to see. I'd love to see the Yankees
- 15:50Speaker 4: go after am I because he solidifies that first April May,
- 15:56Speaker 4: before Rodin and Cole come back, and even when they
- 15:59Speaker 4: come back, you never know. We saw a lot of
- 16:02Speaker 4: especially with Cole, we saw guys come back and maybe
- 16:05Speaker 4: weren't necessarily their best self throughout the entire season. They'll
- 16:11Speaker 4: probably be able to lock it in during during the postseason.
- 16:14Speaker 4: But of my signing, I think could also then free
- 16:20Speaker 4: up somebody like a Luis Hill that could maybe pry
- 16:24Speaker 4: Byron Buxton away from the Twins, Like if you have
- 16:28Speaker 4: young starting pitching, young girls starting pitching, and I get it,
- 16:31Speaker 4: Heels getting up there in service time because of some
- 16:34Speaker 4: of his some of his injury time. I just see,
- 16:39Speaker 4: maybe there's a little bit different way to go about it.
- 16:42Speaker 4: And what have the Yankees done the last two off seasons?
- 16:45Speaker 4: The best starting pitchers available, I'm sorry, last three off seasons.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Ro Don was available, got him. Cole was available, got him.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Max Freed. You could debate was he the best available?
- 16:57Speaker 4: You know, but they went after their guy and got him.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Wait, why is Max Freed catching strays right now?
- 17:03Speaker 2: You know if I don't think he was.
- 17:06Speaker 1: It was him and Corbyn Burns, right, they were the
- 17:08Speaker 1: two best free agents available.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Right, and Corbin Burns. I mean Corbin Burns was better,
- 17:13Speaker 4: Max Freed was. Max Freed was the best lefty available
- 17:16Speaker 4: unless you say Garrett Crochet was available, and the Yankees
- 17:19Speaker 4: never got in on that.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So if you want to track there, you're saying the
- 17:23Speaker 1: best starting pitching talent per offseason. For most of the
- 17:28Speaker 1: last half decade they're involved, and they're grabbing them results
- 17:32Speaker 1: or results afterward. But in terms of what you're looking at,
- 17:35Speaker 1: you have to be pleased if you're a Yankee fan,
- 17:37Speaker 1: they're going out to my big fish.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I'm just more talking about who they're in on who
- 17:42Speaker 4: they like. I talked to one guy who a seen
- 17:45Speaker 4: of my over in Japan. I was talking about a
- 17:50Speaker 4: lot of the Japanese guys, and I know, I know
- 17:53Speaker 4: that Yankees really like what they see. It's just a
- 17:55Speaker 4: matter of you know, what does that what does that
- 17:58Speaker 4: price look like? But also how how strict is how
- 18:02Speaker 4: gonna be how Steinbrenner and you know, this whole luxury
- 18:07Speaker 4: tax threshold thing, the soft salary cap. We'll see.
- 18:12Speaker 2: That's that's the big question. Yeah, they talked about Cashman
- 18:18Speaker 2: talked about.
- 18:18Speaker 3: You know, a little not much in his you know
- 18:21Speaker 3: when he was talking reporters and everything else. But I've
- 18:23Speaker 3: heard he was talking a lot about who he wants
- 18:25Speaker 3: to go after and what might happen on the side.
- 18:28Speaker 2: So we'll see how this all, you know.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Spells out, because there hasn't really been much going on,
- 18:35Speaker 3: you know, a couple here and there. But yeah, I'm
- 18:38Speaker 3: excited to see what the Yankees doing where where they're
- 18:40Speaker 3: gonna get after because they need another starting pitcher, at
- 18:44Speaker 3: least one.
- 18:47Speaker 1: In my opinion, this is the best guy on the market.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Mhm.
- 18:52Speaker 4: And so they're gonna they're gonna make a push. This
- 18:54Speaker 4: isn't this isn't like some other teams. Oh, they're in
- 18:56Speaker 4: on them. They're gonna make a push because of the
- 18:58Speaker 4: evaluations I've seen him, because of what we've seen Yamamoto
- 19:02Speaker 4: do when he came over. He's they're going to make
- 19:07Speaker 4: a push. If the Cubs are really the one that's like, hey,
- 19:09Speaker 4: we're the most serious, the Yankees are going to push them.
- 19:13Speaker 4: And I'm wondering what the view of Japanese players is
- 19:17Speaker 4: of going to Chicago, if we're just saying Chicago or
- 19:21Speaker 4: New York, what the view is, because I know I've
- 19:24Speaker 4: said it here a ton of times. Masa here at
- 19:26Speaker 4: Tanaka said the Yankees were the team that you wanted
- 19:31Speaker 4: to go play for when you were a kid coming
- 19:32Speaker 4: up through you through grade school through high school, you
- 19:37Speaker 4: wanted to go and play for the Yankees. And he said,
- 19:39Speaker 4: I will only play for the Yankees. I think he's
- 19:42Speaker 4: unique in that sense. But there's still a lore. There's
- 19:45Speaker 4: still the Yankee lore, and I think that you I
- 19:50Speaker 4: think it gives the Yankees an advantage, But again, are
- 19:52Speaker 4: they willing to push that soft salary cap number, which
- 19:56Speaker 4: they've said they're not, and does it inhibit them from
- 20:00Speaker 4: getting that center field first base Cody Bellinger type.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I don't hate your idea, Hey, Ballenger's getting pricey for us,
- 20:11Speaker 1: sign of my for a similar number or less, and
- 20:16Speaker 1: then we could have a surplus and trade from that
- 20:19Speaker 1: to try and acquire a center fielder. The only thing is,
- 20:23Speaker 1: I don't know who is available, and the name you
- 20:26Speaker 1: brought up seems like he's not available. Sure, you can
- 20:30Speaker 1: be talked into anything, but it does appear as if
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Twins are not going to trade away their talent.
- 20:36Speaker 1: That doesn't just hurt the center field market with Byron
- 20:39Speaker 1: buckst and it also hurts the starting pitching market. There
- 20:41Speaker 1: were teams that were banking on a Joe Ryan acquisition
- 20:45Speaker 1: or maybe a Pablo Lopez ad and it took a
- 20:47Speaker 1: little bit of leverage away. Right teams are looking like, hey,
- 20:50Speaker 1: this starting pitching market's too expensive. I'll just go give
- 20:53Speaker 1: up a lot and prospect talent and grab Joe Ryan.
- 20:56Speaker 1: But it appears as if the Twins are still going
- 20:58Speaker 1: to be on their track. Maybe I'm wrong on that
- 21:00Speaker 1: cratz as it's been a winding road even for the
- 21:02Speaker 1: Twins front office, right Derek Falve has talked about it publicly.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It's like, we don't know where we stand. Here comes
- 21:08Speaker 1: the minority investors, all that kind of deal. So anyway,
- 21:11Speaker 1: we're looking at some comments as we're talking about it.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Neil said, I thought of my wanted to be the
- 21:16Speaker 1: only Japanese player on the team. I think that was misconstrued.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It sounded more like fun, playful shots at the Dodgers,
- 21:25Speaker 1: specifically that he doesn't need to go to the team
- 21:27Speaker 1: that has three Japanese players already and has developed this
- 21:31Speaker 1: super strong pipeline and dominance in the Japanese market. So
- 21:38Speaker 1: I think that's more of what you're looking at with
- 21:41Speaker 1: someone like Ami. And at this point it doesn't appear
- 21:44Speaker 1: as if the Dodgers are in on him anyway. So
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's a fun thing to say, like, Hey, I'm different
- 21:50Speaker 1: teams look at me. I want to beat the Dodgers.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Many owners are jealous of them right now. I would
- 21:54Speaker 1: love to join your ball club and knock them down
- 21:58Speaker 1: a notch.
- 22:00Speaker 4: To be like Rokie knew where he was going, am
- 22:03Speaker 4: I knew that the Dodgers weren't in on him. And
- 22:06Speaker 4: so was his opportunity to take a free shots. I mean,
- 22:10Speaker 4: it's a free shot, and I love that.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I love that for him real quick. Lance Lynn on
- 22:15Speaker 1: Cardinal Territory, and that show's blown up, So I advise
- 22:18Speaker 1: you to check it out, even if you're not a
- 22:20Speaker 1: Cardinals fan. They cover a lot of topics that we
- 22:22Speaker 1: cover too. Kyle Gibson att Holiday, et cetera. Here's Lance
- 22:26Speaker 1: on the specifics of a no trade clause, because I
- 22:28Speaker 1: think that can often get misconstrued. It's not like, oh,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I just hate all these teams their strategy to this,
- 22:32Speaker 1: and I thought Lance was very insightful here on how
- 22:35Speaker 1: he dealt with this.
- 22:37Speaker 5: My note trade was full of teams that I thought
- 22:39Speaker 5: would trade for me so I can control things, maybe
- 22:41Speaker 5: even get into contract. Like there was more said than that.
- 22:44Speaker 5: I didn't put teams there on there were bad because
- 22:47Speaker 5: I didn't plan on pitching, and bad enough to where
- 22:49Speaker 5: I would get traded to those teams. And I was
- 22:51Speaker 5: making too much money for those teams to even take me.
- 22:54Speaker 5: So my thought was, all right, and we'll put all
- 22:56Speaker 5: the teams on there that I know that we'll be
- 22:59Speaker 5: looking to add of veteran starter and aren't afraid of
- 23:01Speaker 5: the money, and then I can control the market on
- 23:04Speaker 5: where I'm going to go and what I can do.
- 23:06Speaker 5: And that was my mindset and the no trade, and
- 23:10Speaker 5: then I lifted it to LA. There's I would say
- 23:14Speaker 5: most every team on my no trade a year I
- 23:16Speaker 5: left Chicago I would have went to So it was
- 23:20Speaker 5: one of those things where I had a ten team
- 23:22Speaker 5: no trade, but I picked at ten teams that I
- 23:24Speaker 5: thought were gonna be in the playoffs so I can
- 23:26Speaker 5: control where I was going to go.
- 23:28Speaker 3: He's always in control of what He's a very smart guy.
- 23:32Speaker 3: He's very he was a very good ballplayer. He's uh,
- 23:36Speaker 3: he's just a guy that his presence is felt everywhere
- 23:39Speaker 3: he goes good, better and different. I love them to death.
- 23:42Speaker 3: But there's always a method to his madness, and he understood,
- 23:45Speaker 3: he understood the process, as they say, So he's no
- 23:48Speaker 3: dumby when it comes to this stuff.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not just oh I hate these teams. I'm
- 23:51Speaker 1: putting them on my limited no trade list because many
- 23:54Speaker 1: of those teams are not going to be the team
- 23:57Speaker 1: you end up with. You know what we have to do? Actually,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I just remember this. It's always one of my favorite stories.
- 24:02Speaker 1: When Matt Holliday signed and I don't remember where he
- 24:05Speaker 1: got a one team no trade in there, and I
- 24:08Speaker 1: think it was the A's. I got to go back
- 24:11Speaker 1: and check all that. But I remember now that Matt's
- 24:13Speaker 1: part of our crew. So maybe we can spark that
- 24:15Speaker 1: conversation back up where he was just seven seventeen Shank
- 24:19Speaker 1: Street in this place like a dump ah that might
- 24:23Speaker 1: have been where he's like, yo, I just don't want
- 24:25Speaker 1: to end up there. The owner doesn't give a crap
- 24:28Speaker 1: about the team, and the facilities are falling apart.
- 24:32Speaker 4: I think I think sometime when Matt comes on or
- 24:35Speaker 4: they could, they should talk about with the Cardinals, I
- 24:38Speaker 4: think everybody would find it interesting to find out what
- 24:40Speaker 4: the other team that he was choosing between them twenty
- 24:43Speaker 4: seventeen was. And maybe and maybe it's out there, but
- 24:46Speaker 4: I think it's ironic how the twenty seventeen season ended
- 24:49Speaker 4: up where he ended up and who they signed in
- 24:53Speaker 4: place of him. So anyway, Matt Holiday story.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Matt Holiday Story, we should get him on soon,
- 24:59Speaker 1: we can promote the show. But also, yes, so he
- 25:02Speaker 1: had a one team, no trade clause in his contract
- 25:05Speaker 1: when he signed with the Yankees, and that was the
- 25:08Speaker 1: Oakland A's because he did not have a great experience
- 25:11Speaker 1: playing with them for a short period of time in
- 25:13Speaker 1: two thousand and nine before he ended up being traded
- 25:15Speaker 1: to the Cardinals and had a great experience there. Remember
- 25:18Speaker 1: he was acquired by Oakland from the Rockies late two
- 25:21Speaker 1: thousand and eight, and then mid two thousand and nine
- 25:24Speaker 1: the a sent him out to the Cardinals. Ooh wee,
- 25:34Speaker 1: let's go in the weeds. Ken Rosenthal's latest notes column
- 25:38Speaker 1: has Alex Bregman on the cover. What I'm hearing about
- 25:42Speaker 1: the Diamondbacks interest in Alex Bregman plus more offseason notes.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But let's start with that, there is this slight chance
- 25:51Speaker 1: that the Diamondbacks could be involved for Bregman, and hear
- 25:55Speaker 1: me out, it's not like the Diamondbacks are rebuilding guys.
- 25:59Speaker 1: They signed Corbyn Byrns last year and I know it
- 26:02Speaker 1: didn't work out from an injury perspective. You should be
- 26:04Speaker 1: back later this season, by the way, and he's pretty
- 26:07Speaker 1: damn good. They signed back Merril Kelly. They do have
- 26:10Speaker 1: one of the best offenses in the sport. They have
- 26:13Speaker 1: work to do on the pitching staff, but hear me out,
- 26:16Speaker 1: the beginning of the paragraph. I thought was really good
- 26:20Speaker 1: on this topic, Todd Father, I think you'd like the quote. Okay,
- 26:24Speaker 1: Ken said one rival executive told him about the Diamondbacks quote.
- 26:30Speaker 1: We have no money, we have no money, we have
- 26:33Speaker 1: no money.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Oh.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Ken Kendrick got aggressive, as in, nah, we're not playing
- 26:38Speaker 1: those waters. And then this is one of those owners
- 26:40Speaker 1: who I really like. Ken Kendrick will just come out
- 26:43Speaker 1: of the blue and say, you know what, screw it,
- 26:46Speaker 1: I'm a gun slinger. I'm going for it. I like
- 26:48Speaker 1: this guy. I don't care what my budgeting was proposed
- 26:52Speaker 1: to the front office. This is my baby, this is
- 26:55Speaker 1: my toy. This is my multi billion dollar franchise. Alex Bragman,
- 27:01Speaker 1: let's chat with him. It happened last year with Corbyn Burns.
- 27:04Speaker 1: You start to have a conversation and Todd Father, Alex
- 27:07Speaker 1: Bregman has the same agent representation as Burns. He lives
- 27:12Speaker 1: in a similar area to Corbyn and that is Phoenix,
- 27:15Speaker 1: and that is very appealing to people that live in
- 27:17Speaker 1: Arizona and can spend the entire year as their home
- 27:20Speaker 1: base in Arizona, no spring training, hopping from one home
- 27:23Speaker 1: to the next with the family, with the young kiddos,
- 27:26Speaker 1: which he also has. It sounds like, according to Ken,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I could tell Marte trade would have to happen. I
- 27:31Speaker 1: think that's going to happen anyway. It tell's a seventeen
- 27:35Speaker 1: million dollar luxury tax hit. Bragman could get about double that.
- 27:38Speaker 1: But the Diamondbacks are about seventeen mil under their payroll
- 27:42Speaker 1: from last year. So anyway, you add it all up
- 27:45Speaker 1: and it's not the craziest thing ever. Is it likely?
- 27:47Speaker 2: No?
- 27:47Speaker 1: But I don't think anybody had Corbyn Burns as their
- 27:50Speaker 1: top spot for or at Arizona as the top spot
- 27:53Speaker 1: for Corbin Burns last year, and look what happened.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Let's call leverage as a player, as an owner.
- 28:02Speaker 3: You know, why would you want to leave, Man? You
- 28:04Speaker 3: can keep your house right here. We'll give you a
- 28:06Speaker 3: certain amount of money.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Come on down. Your family doesn't have to move.
- 28:11Speaker 3: If you're a team in Florida or a team in Arizona,
- 28:14Speaker 3: well there's only one team in Arizona. Yeah, it's about leverage, man,
- 28:18Speaker 3: And I think it's a really good possibility.
- 28:20Speaker 2: I know you said it's highly unlikely. Why not? Why not?
- 28:24Speaker 3: I mean, this would be a great fit for him.
- 28:27Speaker 3: They just resigned Merrill, Kelly Back, it's a great organization.
- 28:32Speaker 3: You don't really hear much bad about him besides not
- 28:34Speaker 3: beating the Dodgers and trying to find a way to
- 28:36Speaker 3: get over the hump there. I mean, they were a
- 28:38Speaker 3: team that were in it a couple of years ago.
- 28:40Speaker 3: So this team is not going anywhere, and to them,
- 28:43Speaker 3: they have the possibility to pick up an Alec Bregman
- 28:46Speaker 3: or Alex Bergman. Yeah, you better, Dann, We'll get ready
- 28:49Speaker 3: to do that because I think he, like other people
- 28:52Speaker 3: like Burns, this stabilizing my family. I don't have to move,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I don't have to put stuff here. My wife and
- 28:58Speaker 3: kids can stay here and enjoy. They have to come
- 29:00Speaker 3: on the road anymore. There's everything plays a part.
- 29:04Speaker 4: I don't see this happening because I don't think it
- 29:07Speaker 4: makes the Diamondbacks better. I think I think a lot
- 29:10Speaker 4: of the stuff about Katel Marte getting traded could be around,
- 29:16Speaker 4: you know, some of the stuff that was going on
- 29:18Speaker 4: around the All Star break and some of the rumblings
- 29:20Speaker 4: that you heard from players like maybe kateel Marte doesn't
- 29:24Speaker 4: quite fit in the clubhouse. You know what fits Ku
- 29:28Speaker 4: tell Marte's bat from both sides in that lineup. You're
- 29:32Speaker 4: talking about a dude that in the last three years
- 29:34Speaker 4: has gone ops plus A one twenty seven, one fifty four,
- 29:38Speaker 4: one five two MVP seasons. One he was top, he
- 29:45Speaker 4: was third, another one he was twenty second this past year. Sorry,
- 29:50Speaker 4: Alex Bregman, great player, third base, super important position. You're
- 29:54Speaker 4: gonna pay Alex Bregman more per year. You're gonna get
- 29:59Speaker 4: rid of kateel Marte bat and you're not upgrading that
- 30:02Speaker 4: with what he bring. What Bregman brings, And if you're
- 30:07Speaker 4: looking for a leader, okay, you know that's a huge upgrade,
- 30:11Speaker 4: but you're talking about a larger contract, most likely more
- 30:15Speaker 4: per year. And to me, I think it's more of
- 30:18Speaker 4: just a ploy. Look, I'm always about the players getting
- 30:21Speaker 4: all their money. Feels like more of a ploy to
- 30:25Speaker 4: make the Red Sox pay the full price that Bregman wants.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Right, You're looking at the market, and I know we've
- 30:34Speaker 1: seen reports about the Cubs. I don't know if I'm
- 30:37Speaker 1: buying that. I can I can buy the Tigers. Remember
- 30:41Speaker 1: I kind of took an l on that one, but
- 30:43Speaker 1: I was like, no way, the Tigers are going to
- 30:45Speaker 1: engage with him. But I do think that it's possible.
- 30:48Speaker 1: After more conversations behind the scenes, I can see the
- 30:51Speaker 1: Tigers saying, all right, but try it again.
- 30:54Speaker 2: And who's the best, say Tigers?
- 30:56Speaker 4: Say, what if the Tigers say one hundred and fifty
- 30:59Speaker 4: million the Red Sox. Obviously we already talked about collusion today.
- 31:03Speaker 4: The Red Sox aren't gonna be like what I just
- 31:06Speaker 4: found out the Tigers only offered one hundred and fifty million. No,
- 31:09Speaker 4: they know exactly what they offered. They're gonna know exactly
- 31:13Speaker 4: what everybody offered. The Red Sox are like, Hey, if
- 31:15Speaker 4: I got to pay one to eighty for Bregman, that's cool.
- 31:17Speaker 4: But if no one else is even close to one seventy,
- 31:20Speaker 4: we'll offer one sixty five. Like, I don't know where
- 31:23Speaker 4: those numbers are, and obviously we'll never know, but you
- 31:27Speaker 4: gotta get other suitors in. Would he be good on
- 31:30Speaker 4: the Diamondbacks. Absolutely. If you're the Diamondbacks and you're getting
- 31:33Speaker 4: rid of a seventeen million dollar a year player, you
- 31:36Speaker 4: better backfill him with a due that's gonna backfill with
- 31:40Speaker 4: the exact same offensive production. I know it's a different position,
- 31:44Speaker 4: and I know there's leadership stuff with Bregman, that is
- 31:47Speaker 4: off the charts. But Cotel Marte is going to help
- 31:52Speaker 4: any team immensely, sliding into a two, three or four
- 31:56Speaker 4: spot as soon as he goes to another team, and
- 31:59Speaker 4: the Diamondbacks have to backfill that and that's tough to do.
- 32:02Speaker 1: It is still weird. You look at Marte and you're like,
- 32:05Speaker 1: this is a superstar player and he's not expensive given
- 32:10Speaker 1: the market, why trade him. I'm with you on that one.
- 32:14Speaker 1: I thought it was a great call. You laid it
- 32:16Speaker 1: out well. And for Bregman, the best fit is Boston
- 32:20Speaker 1: according to both his interest and the team. It's not
- 32:24Speaker 1: like they're the only team involved, like we said, but
- 32:26Speaker 1: are they the only team involved at that price range? Hey?
- 32:30Speaker 1: Things change. It didn't seem like Boston was going to
- 32:33Speaker 1: be the spot for Bregman, and I heard with strong
- 32:36Speaker 1: confidence that they made a pretty late push and upward
- 32:40Speaker 1: movement of their offer, And it took influential Red Sox
- 32:46Speaker 1: people outside of the front office to make phone calls
- 32:50Speaker 1: to ownership and say, Hey, this can get done. This
- 32:54Speaker 1: guy wants to be here. You're low balling compared to
- 32:57Speaker 1: the market. Figure it out if you really want him.
- 33:02Speaker 2: That happened.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I have one thing before we get to our next guest. Yeah,
- 33:06Speaker 4: if you're the Red Sox, who would you rather have
- 33:09Speaker 4: put into your lineup right now? To Tell Marte or
- 33:12Speaker 4: Alex Bregman.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Mm hmm into the Red Sox lineup?
- 33:16Speaker 4: Yes, I know, I'm not I'm just saying. I'm just saying,
- 33:19Speaker 4: based on why other teams would want either one of
- 33:23Speaker 4: these guys, why the Diamondbacks would I get, I get
- 33:26Speaker 4: the leadership stuff. I'm just saying the Red Sox are
- 33:29Speaker 4: more of a nickel and dime team than what you
- 33:33Speaker 4: know they would they would put themselves out as Yeah.
- 33:36Speaker 1: See, this is where it gets really hard to value
- 33:38Speaker 1: a player that contributes like this. I would say, could
- 33:43Speaker 1: tell Marte technically, could tell Marte player profile wise, I
- 33:48Speaker 1: think on a free agent market, would command more money.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I mean and and deservedly so. I think he's worth
- 33:57Speaker 1: a lot. Bregman's worth a lot too. But yeah, there's
- 34:00Speaker 1: the defense involved, there's the impact off the field. They're
- 34:02Speaker 1: both great players. But yeah, that's why I look at this.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I'm like, Damn, any team that's looking at Katl Marte
- 34:08Speaker 1: should go after him and give up the prospects to
- 34:10Speaker 1: do it. You sign him into what looks like pretty
- 34:13Speaker 1: affordable options for a number of years. That's me, So
- 34:17Speaker 1: we'll see. And actually, if you really get yourself in
- 34:19Speaker 1: a bad situation again you want to trade him, I
- 34:21Speaker 1: think the five to ten rights that give him no
- 34:23Speaker 1: trade rights would reset, so then you would have the
- 34:26Speaker 1: ability to trade him again in the future. Super fascinating case. Here,
- 34:37Speaker 1: let'sh bet MGM futures so World Series named the finalists
- 34:44Speaker 1: Yankees Dodgers plus eleven hundred. This is a category that
- 34:50Speaker 1: I struggle with. Help me out. Do you guys feel
- 34:57Speaker 1: like there's a spot in this category that you would
- 34:59Speaker 1: feel comfortable with. This category is better than it used
- 35:03Speaker 1: to be because of the dominanta of the Dodgers lately.
- 35:06Speaker 1: So if you're one of those people that's like, hey,
- 35:08Speaker 1: the Dodgers are just going to go on this dynasty run,
- 35:10Speaker 1: then you already accomplish one side of it. And it
- 35:13Speaker 1: does give you insurance that the Dodgers are not necessarily
- 35:16Speaker 1: winning the World Series every time, but they are at
- 35:18Speaker 1: least taking you to the World Series. So even this
- 35:21Speaker 1: past season, you would have been a little less nervous
- 35:24Speaker 1: if you had the Dodgers matching up against the Blue Jays.
- 35:27Speaker 1: You also would have been crazy lucky because not or
- 35:29Speaker 1: just crazy smart. Not many people had that matchup. But
- 35:32Speaker 1: Todd Father, do you like this or would you rather
- 35:35Speaker 1: just focus on something a little more specific, like just
- 35:40Speaker 1: one team and then represent the NL or winning the
- 35:42Speaker 1: World Series.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I do like it. I like it a lot. This
- 35:46Speaker 3: was my pick last year. It didn't come in a fruition,
- 35:49Speaker 3: but I do. I do like it. I think I
- 35:53Speaker 3: would any sane person would put a little bit on
- 35:57Speaker 3: this knowing that LA is the best team in the world,
- 36:01Speaker 3: and the Yankees always have an opportunity to make a
- 36:03Speaker 3: run if their guys are healthy and they find ways
- 36:07Speaker 3: to beat the Blue Jays Sola, New York. In LA,
- 36:10Speaker 3: I could see the Blue Jays getting back in there.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 3: I mean there's not many, in my humble opinion, not
- 36:17Speaker 3: many American League teams that right now besides the Blue
- 36:21Speaker 3: Jays and Yankees I see getting to the World Series
- 36:24Speaker 3: as of now. Not saying day one I'll change my mind,
- 36:28Speaker 3: but yeah, I'd like this pick a lot.
- 36:33Speaker 4: I mean, I'm going through the rest of them here,
- 36:34Speaker 4: and if you're only sticking with the Dodgers, there's a
- 36:38Speaker 4: lot of there's a lot of fun numbers here. I
- 36:41Speaker 4: just feel like, I feel like, you know you have
- 36:45Speaker 4: Red Sox and Dodgers are coming out at twenty five
- 36:48Speaker 4: to one. I like that number way better Orioles and
- 36:52Speaker 4: Dodgers coming out at twenty five to one. Like if
- 36:56Speaker 4: you're like, okay, I'm stuck on the Dodgers making it,
- 36:59Speaker 4: then it's just a matter of who you think is
- 37:00Speaker 4: coming out of the American League. And I'm sorry, I'm
- 37:02Speaker 4: not taking eleven to one on it being the Yankees.
- 37:06Speaker 4: I'm taking I mean, shoot, you can, hey, White Sox
- 37:10Speaker 4: and Dodgers are one hundred and twenty five to one.
- 37:13Speaker 4: If you if you have White Sox, like, what about
- 37:16Speaker 4: the I think there are teams.
- 37:19Speaker 1: For where the Mariners on there you haven't pulled out.
- 37:22Speaker 4: That's That's what I'm trying to get down to. Okay,
- 37:25Speaker 4: I'll get back to you.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you could.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Think about Mariners hard. I wouldn't touch the Tigers right
- 37:33Speaker 1: now because there's still a chance that they trade schoople
- 37:36Speaker 1: and if they don't, are they pushing chips in. I
- 37:41Speaker 1: don't know how comfortable I feel, But for me, Todd Father,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I think there's a vibe in Seattle. I mean, I've
- 37:46Speaker 1: been on them and then kind of eased off this
- 37:48Speaker 1: past season, of course, where they finally did put a
- 37:50Speaker 1: lot more together and do the adding that they needed
- 37:53Speaker 1: to do at the deadline, I think they kind of
- 37:55Speaker 1: learned that it only takes a little bit more aggressiveness
- 38:00Speaker 1: to separate yourself from a fringe playoff team and an
- 38:05Speaker 1: ALCS appearance. To me, I feel like they've learned a
- 38:09Speaker 1: little bit about that. It doesn't come from the GM,
- 38:12Speaker 1: it's coming from ownership. So I had to give them
- 38:14Speaker 1: a little more leeway at this trade deadline to pick
- 38:17Speaker 1: up two significant impact players. One was much more impactful
- 38:22Speaker 1: than the other. Naylor was much better down the stretch
- 38:24Speaker 1: and in the playoffs than Gino Suarez, but both were
- 38:27Speaker 1: definitely upgrades. So I could see Seattle rolling that out.
- 38:31Speaker 1: It's tough to roll out the same names that just
- 38:34Speaker 1: went through the slog of a postseason and have them
- 38:37Speaker 1: not deal with some fatigue and hangover effect. But I
- 38:41Speaker 1: do think Seattle's got something special and they continue to
- 38:45Speaker 1: nurture and take more care of their lineup than they
- 38:48Speaker 1: did for a while.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you're not wrong by that at all.
- 38:53Speaker 3: They just got a hit They've been known for their pitching.
- 38:55Speaker 3: They just need more clutch hitting to get over the hump. Now,
- 39:00Speaker 3: you saw a couple guys step up. Big Roriguez stepped
- 39:03Speaker 3: up huge in the playoffs and came on strong at
- 39:06Speaker 3: the end.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Hopefully he keeps that going.
- 39:08Speaker 3: And they just got to solidify a few spots, and
- 39:11Speaker 3: you know they'll be right there in the talks for sure.
- 39:16Speaker 4: I'd take I mean the Mariners, the Mariners and Dodgers,
- 39:19Speaker 4: all right, seventeen fifty plus seventeen fifty. I still don't
- 39:22Speaker 4: like that number, but I like the Mariners and Phillies
- 39:25Speaker 4: at thirty five to one, thirty five hundred Mariners Phillies,
- 39:29Speaker 4: two teams that didn't quite get the full barrage of it.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Maybe could be up there. You know this is this
- 39:36Speaker 4: is a fun exercise. I like this. I like this,
- 39:38Speaker 4: but I need if I'm picking the two exact teams
- 39:43Speaker 4: that are winning the National League and the American League
- 39:45Speaker 4: pennant and meeting in the World Series, I need more
- 39:48Speaker 4: than eleven to one. Sorry, Yankees and Dodgers.
- 39:53Speaker 1: He's greedy, todd Father. He doesn't want to eleven X's money.
- 39:56Speaker 1: But I get what you're saying.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I mean it is crazy.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It is it's hard to pick both seats. But if
- 40:02Speaker 1: you're looking for something right now, there's a pro Football
- 40:06Speaker 1: no Sweat token. You can check that out applied on
- 40:08Speaker 1: any no any pro football bet. Use the token and
- 40:12Speaker 1: add that bet on an event to your bet slip,
- 40:14Speaker 1: and then you activate the token, and then you get
- 40:16Speaker 1: bonus bets if that bet was made with the token
- 40:21Speaker 1: and it loses. So gambling problem or concern called one
- 40:23Speaker 1: eight hundred gambler. Hey, we do have a sale. The
- 40:41Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Penguins are being sold from Fenway Sports Group. Why
- 40:44Speaker 1: is this relevant, Well, Fenway Sports Group also owns the
- 40:47Speaker 1: Red Sox, so they sold the team to the Hoffman's
- 40:51Speaker 1: wherever they are for one point seven billion dollars. This
- 40:55Speaker 1: according to Elliott Friedman, he's a super duper insider. He's
- 40:58Speaker 1: like the Ken Rosenthal the NHL so one point sevan
- 41:02Speaker 1: bill into the portfolio of the group that owns the
- 41:07Speaker 1: Red Sox. It does not work where you take that
- 41:11Speaker 1: and you just spend it on the major league team.
- 41:13Speaker 1: But good for them making some cash through the process.
- 41:17Speaker 1: And now Red Sox fans can point to that number
- 41:21Speaker 1: all off season long if they miss out on free agents.
- 41:26Speaker 1: That's what happens anyway, Kratz, hat's what you got.
- 41:31Speaker 4: They're gonna put it in air. Soccer team. Sam Blom is
- 41:34Speaker 4: doing amazing work. If you want to have a real
- 41:37Speaker 4: life saga. I know Sam was just on go read
- 41:40Speaker 4: all the stuff that he's been following with this with
- 41:43Speaker 4: the trial, the Tyler Skaggs civil suit, and so I
- 41:47Speaker 4: had to wear my Angels hat for guys. Sam coming
- 41:50Speaker 4: on today.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Sam's great.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Hey.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Guest list tomorrow. FT insider Robert Murray also from Fansideed,
- 41:57Speaker 1: but new to the party as a regular with us.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Zach Rosenthal, former Rockies VP and assistant GM of Baseball Operations,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and he was their GM for five minutes, and it'll
- 42:07Speaker 1: be interesting to hear his thoughts on what he experienced
- 42:10Speaker 1: there in Colorado and what he thinks this new group
- 42:13Speaker 1: can bring to try and get them into a I
- 42:16Speaker 1: don't know better situation for lack of better terms. Also
- 42:21Speaker 1: Paul Hoynes, who's a legend in Cleveland and really amongst
- 42:25Speaker 1: many baseball writers. He was honored at the Winter meetings,
- 42:28Speaker 1: and we'll talk guardians with a great personality, So it'll
- 42:32Speaker 1: be fun. We should have more moves as we're leading
- 42:36Speaker 1: up to the holidays and Todd Father, we will see
- 42:39Speaker 1: you on Friday, right boom see you then, Bud Yeah,
