- 0:13Speaker 1: What's good people it's your boy NIC coming to you
- 0:16Speaker 1: live and direct independent NIC where we talk New York
- 0:19Speaker 1: sports plus whatever the fuck else I feel like that
- 0:22Speaker 1: night um y'all I got my man O with me
- 0:24Speaker 1: aka Nickinator yo yes sir oh man talk to me
- 0:28Speaker 1: man long time no speak how you been.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Uh, I've been good, man. I've been busy doing a
- 0:33Speaker 2: million and one things as usual. Um, I know we've
- 0:35Speaker 2: stayed in tune and we've talked about all the different
- 0:38Speaker 2: times we can get together on a pod and I'm
- 0:40Speaker 2: glad we can finally find some time tonight to do that.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Yo, it's not easy. Listen, man, I know, you know,
- 0:45Speaker 1: you see from everything that you share on X, you
- 0:47Speaker 1: seem like one of the hardest working dudes out there, man.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You're always working, taking care of your family. You know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I know you got, got little ones too. It's hard
- 0:55Speaker 1: out here to find some time to just get together
- 0:56Speaker 1: and talk with your boy.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it is, man. I think we all
- 1:00Speaker 2: have our things, right, that we do, that we're invested in. Obviously,
- 1:04Speaker 2: family for me is important. Of course, everything I do
- 1:07Speaker 2: for my mom and all that other stuff that I
- 1:10Speaker 2: do share on my timeline. But then there's this, right?
- 1:12Speaker 2: There's just the madness that is Nick's fandom. So when
- 1:16Speaker 2: I can get in tune with you, I appreciate it
- 1:18Speaker 2: because I get the chance to have these kind of
- 1:19Speaker 2: conversations I don't have anywhere else. So it's good.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, for those of you that don't know,
- 1:24Speaker 1: when it comes to, you know, Nick's Twitter account, We
- 1:27Speaker 1: got royalty in this place here right now. You know,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I mean, put some respect on his name. You know,
- 1:31Speaker 1: he's a coach. He's a coach at the summertime game
- 1:35Speaker 1: that goes down and everything. I mean, tell me about that, man.
- 1:38Speaker 1: How was it meeting JB? Did you get a chance
- 1:40Speaker 1: to like meet JB or were you kind of just
- 1:42Speaker 1: playing the background?
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I was. I was playing the background. Something about me, man.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I just got to own it because I had the
- 1:47Speaker 2: same experience with Ben Stiller at the first Next Twitter Day.
- 1:52Speaker 2: And I had the same experience with Patrick Ewing on
- 1:55Speaker 2: vacation once. I ran into him. I literally ran into
- 1:58Speaker 2: Patrick Ewing, who's my goat. That's my idol. That's my
- 2:00Speaker 2: basketball idol, Patrick Ewing, when it comes to the Knicks.
- 2:03Speaker 2: He's the reason I'm a Knicks fan. I'm not the
- 2:06Speaker 2: type of person to interrupt people. I find that rude.
- 2:08Speaker 2: And even though this was a venue where they were
- 2:10Speaker 2: there to be with the fans, there was a crowd.
- 2:13Speaker 2: There were people pushing. And I didn't want to be
- 2:15Speaker 2: part of that madness. If I caught him on the humble,
- 2:18Speaker 2: I would absolutely say, hey, what's up, man? Pleasure to
- 2:20Speaker 2: meet you. Thank you for everything you've done for the city.
- 2:22Speaker 2: But in that moment, man, I wasn't... At one time,
- 2:24Speaker 2: I tried to... woke up to Josh Hart because Josh
- 2:27Speaker 2: Hart was there too. And, of course, it was because
- 2:29Speaker 2: he didn't have a crowd around him, and I understood
- 2:31Speaker 2: very quickly why he didn't have a crowd around him.
- 2:33Speaker 2: During that point of the tournament, they were meant to
- 2:37Speaker 2: not be bothered in that moment. They had security literally
- 2:39Speaker 2: lined up in a triangle not to interrupt them, and
- 2:41Speaker 2: I quickly found out that this was not the time
- 2:43Speaker 2: to go and say hello. But the Knicks Twitter Classic,
- 2:48Speaker 2: they renamed it originally. It was called Knicks Twitter Day.
- 2:51Speaker 2: For those that don't know, Knicks Twitter Day is a
- 2:53Speaker 2: basketball tournament for Nick's fans that Sean Geddes has put together.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Sean Geddes is the second annual basketball.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Shout out to Sean.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Again, he renamed it to Nick's Twitter Classic, but it
- 3:05Speaker 2: was originally Nick's Twitter Day. And it's just that it's
- 3:08Speaker 2: about eight teams, folks that are on Twitter, that we've
- 3:13Speaker 2: all had relationships for a long time. I was lucky
- 3:15Speaker 2: enough to be nominated as a coach and I accepted it.
- 3:18Speaker 2: And we just play ball, man. We play ball. Last year,
- 3:21Speaker 2: We were eliminated in the first round. We had a
- 3:23Speaker 2: bad showing. We had the highlight of the tournament where
- 3:25Speaker 2: one of my guys got dunked on.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yo, what a friend of the show. Somebody who's come
- 3:30Speaker 1: on with me. I mean, we all love Doug Lust.
- 3:33Speaker 1: He's very, very important. I talked to him about it
- 3:35Speaker 1: on the show. I was like, yo, my man, why
- 3:37Speaker 1: did you jump? Because he wasn't even supposed to be
- 3:40Speaker 1: the guy that should have been there and rotated. He
- 3:42Speaker 1: was really doing real hustle and effort. And unfortunately... He
- 3:47Speaker 1: was the body that got caught. I asked him about it.
- 3:50Speaker 1: He was like, man, I'm just, you know, he's that
- 3:52Speaker 1: type of guy who does the dirty work. I appreciate it.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he, you know, Sean curled, and there was supposed
- 3:57Speaker 2: to be a rotation, and nobody picked it up, and
- 3:59Speaker 2: he found himself with a clear path to the basket.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So he took off, and he and Trippie, I don't
- 4:04Speaker 2: know if you know Trippie, but Trippie decided to jump
- 4:06Speaker 2: as well, and it was just an ugly finish. You know,
- 4:08Speaker 2: Sean is 6'5 with a runaway.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He took off, and it just was a thunderous moment. Honestly,
- 4:15Speaker 2: we didn't rebound from it. We fought back to get
- 4:17Speaker 2: back in that game, but again, we were down by
- 4:19Speaker 2: probably eight when the game ended, and it took everything
- 4:22Speaker 2: we had just to make it within eight. This year,
- 4:24Speaker 2: we had a much better show, and we were able
- 4:26Speaker 2: to expand the roster a little bit. Last year, we
- 4:28Speaker 2: had some guys hurt. This year, we brought in some
- 4:29Speaker 2: new guys, guys also from the next Twitter community, and
- 4:33Speaker 2: we ended up in the finals. Great game getting up
- 4:36Speaker 2: to the finals, but by the time we were In
- 4:39Speaker 2: the finals, we lost to the NYKX team. Shout out
- 4:42Speaker 2: to Tony and that gang. They had Harris.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Yo, Harris is a real hooper, yo.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Harris is no joke, man.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Shout out to my guy, Knickerbocker Banter, a.k.a. Harris. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: He's a real, real hooper. I've seen the videos of
- 4:59Speaker 1: him and Sean playing against each other. And what I
- 5:02Speaker 1: guess is their offseason, which is like during the Knicks
- 5:04Speaker 1: season because it's the offseason of the Classic. But, yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 1: when they do that, man, you know, you can see
- 5:09Speaker 1: these guys. They're much younger than me, man. I'm too old.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I'm 42 years old. I'd have to try to come
- 5:13Speaker 1: be an assistant coach or some shit. But at the
- 5:17Speaker 1: end of the day, yo, that dude Harris, he's got
- 5:19Speaker 1: a– that legit, like, college-level jump shot is a totally
- 5:23Speaker 1: different thing when you start playing against, like, regular dudes.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It's a totally different thing.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's funny, when you experience it in real time,
- 5:30Speaker 2: obviously I know Harris, and Harris, we had spoken, because
- 5:33Speaker 2: that's Doug's boy. That's Doug's man. So Doug was trying
- 5:37Speaker 2: to get him on a team, but I think with
- 5:38Speaker 2: everything going on with me, I didn't get a chance
- 5:41Speaker 2: to have that one-on-one with him, and then Tone had
- 5:43Speaker 2: snatched him up, and he ended up being the MVP
- 5:45Speaker 2: of the tournament, man. This guy's amazing, but also a
- 5:48Speaker 2: great Knicks fan. He came to the game with me
- 5:50Speaker 2: one time. I think it was the Golden State game
- 5:51Speaker 2: that we went together. Great Knicks fan, great all-around guy,
- 5:55Speaker 2: so shout-out to him, man. Shout-out to him. But, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 2: the tournament was a blast. Just to put a bow
- 6:01Speaker 2: on that. Shout out to NYKX, they won. I didn't
- 6:03Speaker 2: get the opportunity to meet JB, but still, awesome thing
- 6:06Speaker 2: by O'Shawn to put together.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It's interesting because I'm very much that same dude when
- 6:10Speaker 1: it comes to, like, things with famous people. Like, yeah, like,
- 6:13Speaker 1: if I could catch you just, like, on some regular
- 6:15Speaker 1: type shit and say what's up to you, whatever, but
- 6:17Speaker 1: when everybody else is, you know, coming up trying to
- 6:19Speaker 1: talk to somebody, like, I'm not waiting in line to
- 6:21Speaker 1: talk to nobody. I don't care who you are. Like,
- 6:23Speaker 1: no matter how much I like you, like, I'm not
- 6:25Speaker 1: waiting in line to talk to you.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And obviously, this is the guy that brought a championship
- 6:29Speaker 2: to New York City. So obviously, I would love to
- 6:33Speaker 2: have that opportunity. But to it, it was just a
- 6:35Speaker 2: swarm of people around. It was everything you would expect
- 6:38Speaker 2: when it came to it. Yeah, it was everything you
- 6:39Speaker 2: would expect. But shout out to him for even showing up, man.
- 6:42Speaker 2: That's really big. That shows that he's in tune with
- 6:43Speaker 2: the community and supports the community. So shout out to him.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Oh, he's, listen, come on. I haven't worn a jersey
- 6:51Speaker 1: in years other than my Namath jersey. I haven't worn
- 6:54Speaker 1: a jersey in years. I have a blue and I
- 6:56Speaker 1: got a white finals one. That's the only other male's
- 6:58Speaker 1: name that I'm putting on my back. The way I
- 7:00Speaker 1: look at it, I've given my name to four people,
- 7:03Speaker 1: my wife and my three children. I don't want to
- 7:05Speaker 1: look like putting some other dude's name on my back.
- 7:07Speaker 1: JB for the king? But we're going to talk about JB.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We're going to talk about JB. And I know that
- 7:13Speaker 1: me and you, we're both Knicks fans. We're both Jets fans.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'm a Mets fan. You're a Yankees fan. We're going
- 7:19Speaker 1: to talk about the Yankees too. But if you're talking
- 7:22Speaker 1: New York sports right now, you got to start off.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You got to talk about Jackson Dart. He's done for
- 7:26Speaker 1: the rest of the season. He goes down with the knee.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Everybody is just like, yo, this, this, you know, this
- 7:31Speaker 1: looks bad, but then he's out there. He's standing up
- 7:34Speaker 1: at the end of the game with the headphones on.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He seems like he's okay. There's a little bit of
- 7:38Speaker 1: optimism comes out today. Season ending surgery is on the horizon. And,
- 7:42Speaker 1: you know, honestly, like, so I'm one of those people
- 7:44Speaker 1: that were like, I'm a Jets fan. but I don't
- 7:47Speaker 1: hate the Giants. And I'm a Mets fan. I don't
- 7:52Speaker 1: hate the Yankees. I don't revel in their failures. I
- 7:57Speaker 1: don't know. I read your tweets sometimes, like maybe some
- 7:59Speaker 1: other Yankee fans do when it comes to the Mets.
- 8:01Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, this whole Knicks
- 8:04Speaker 1: thing that just happened, which I didn't get to be
- 8:06Speaker 1: back there for when they won a championship, but I
- 8:08Speaker 1: came back for the parade and just the whole vibe
- 8:12Speaker 1: in the city. And I mean, even before that, just
- 8:14Speaker 1: watching the videos, you know, of, you know, that night
- 8:17Speaker 1: and people singing Alicia Keys in the street and all
- 8:19Speaker 1: that shit. And then the statistics coming out where it's like, yo,
- 8:21Speaker 1: they really, like the Knicks really healed the city. Like,
- 8:25Speaker 1: it's crazy.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I don't know. It's everything you would dream as a
- 8:28Speaker 2: Knicks fan. Sometimes it's, I had, I had shared something
- 8:31Speaker 2: the other day and, and it was more like, I
- 8:34Speaker 2: almost don't want, I know it sounds crazy, but I
- 8:36Speaker 2: almost don't want the season to start because then it means,
- 8:40Speaker 2: Last season really ended now. It's over. The magic ride
- 8:43Speaker 2: is done. I hope you enjoyed it. Let's get back
- 8:45Speaker 2: to work. But it's been such an awesome summer. I
- 8:49Speaker 2: haven't been this unstressed, if that's even a word.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I haven't.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Because, you know, at one point I was going off
- 8:55Speaker 2: to Summer League. I'm in tune with the draft. And
- 8:59Speaker 2: we're selecting. You know, I don't even remember anymore. But,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you know, and this summer I was just like, whatever, man.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I can't wait for the season to get here. But
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'm so relaxed right now. I'm just chilling. Baseball, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 2: I'm a Yankee fan. I was a diehard Yankee fan.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I became a bit of a casual because I'm in
- 9:17Speaker 2: my 50s, man. And when it comes to my Yankees fandom,
- 9:20Speaker 2: I can tell you about crying in front of the
- 9:22Speaker 2: TV in 1981 or 1980. Anyway, a long time ago
- 9:27Speaker 2: when Fernando Valenzuela, right? And you may not know these names,
- 9:30Speaker 2: but he had a screwball and I was maybe eight
- 9:32Speaker 2: or six years old and I'm crying. And my dad
- 9:35Speaker 2: is like, what are you crying about? I'm like, Dad,
- 9:37Speaker 2: they lost. And that's where my fandom begins as far
- 9:40Speaker 2: as a diehard. So when you speed up to today,
- 9:43Speaker 2: and we went through the whole George era, which wasn't
- 9:45Speaker 2: as successful. The Yankees really had success when he got suspended.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But the fact that the Yankees, whenever there was talent available,
- 9:53Speaker 2: they were invested, they were putting the money up, they
- 9:55Speaker 2: were chasing those stars, and they were bringing the talent.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Never really panned out for them, but they were. invested.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Now you fast forward to the move, and I say
- 10:02Speaker 2: this to everybody, I'm going to say it proudly. The
- 10:05Speaker 2: minute they decided to play Sabermetrics, the minute they decided
- 10:09Speaker 2: to say Sonny Gray over Justin Verlander, I had tapped out.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I had tapped out because I'm like, I lived through
- 10:18Speaker 2: Carl Pavano. I lived through Ed Whitson. All these guys
- 10:21Speaker 2: that do these things on a stat sheet, it doesn't
- 10:23Speaker 2: mean they can handle New York. And I just knew
- 10:26Speaker 2: that Sonny, he was too young. You know, he was
- 10:27Speaker 2: too young. He still ended up being a fine pitcher
- 10:29Speaker 2: once he left New York. But I kind of tapped
- 10:31Speaker 2: out because I'm, oh, now we're penny pinching. Like, who
- 10:33Speaker 2: are we? Are we becoming the Mets now? Like, we're
- 10:34Speaker 2: doing some double day stuff here. Like, what is this?
- 10:36Speaker 2: So I was... You know, not WB, but what would
- 10:39Speaker 2: they call the guy? Fred Coupon or something like that?
- 10:41Speaker 2: Because he was cheap. I don't know.
- 10:42Speaker 1: The Wilpons. The Wilpons. Thank you, sir. Yeah, yeah, the Wilpons. Listen,
- 10:46Speaker 1: a lot of the things you just said are, I mean,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I feel like you just hit like 10 different points
- 10:52Speaker 1: across the entire course of the episode that we're going
- 10:54Speaker 1: to have to come back to because, you know, as
- 10:56Speaker 1: far as the Mets and the, no, no, no. We just,
- 10:59Speaker 1: don't apologize. We're just talking. I love it. So, like,
- 11:02Speaker 1: I mean, at the end of the day, to bring
- 11:05Speaker 1: it back for a second, The whole Giants thing and
- 11:08Speaker 1: seeing the Yankees win, I don't ever necessarily want to
- 11:11Speaker 1: see the Yankees win. I don't hate the Yankees like that,
- 11:13Speaker 1: but I don't want to see them win. Most of
- 11:14Speaker 1: my friends growing up are Giants and Yankees fans, and
- 11:17Speaker 1: I got to hear them, and now it's number 28,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and they, it seems to me, are more obsessed with
- 11:22Speaker 1: the Mets and their demise than they even are in
- 11:26Speaker 1: how well their team is doing sometimes. But one of
- 11:29Speaker 1: the things that I've seen is how the city was
- 11:31Speaker 1: when the Knicks won, and I can be honest about
- 11:34Speaker 1: the situation and say, other than the Knicks, as far
- 11:37Speaker 1: as teams in New York City, the next thing down
- 11:40Speaker 1: that would make the city the most happy would probably
- 11:43Speaker 1: be a Yankees World Series win.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you know, there was a run in
- 11:48Speaker 2: Boston where the Bruins were hot, the Red Sox were hot,
- 11:53Speaker 2: you know, the England was hot.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Celtics got one in there too, yep.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Right, so I was hoping that the New York Knicks
- 12:00Speaker 2: set off that kind of trend here in the city,
- 12:03Speaker 2: but The championship was awesome. Being out there that night,
- 12:07Speaker 2: being around the garden, the energy was amazing. I remember
- 12:12Speaker 2: cop cars getting broken into in front of us and
- 12:14Speaker 2: they were jumping on it. It was madness. But yeah, man,
- 12:17Speaker 2: the city was just, it was a joyful place. Crime
- 12:20Speaker 2: is down, murders are down. It was just a crazy
- 12:23Speaker 2: time in New York City. Everybody's happy, but bring it
- 12:26Speaker 2: back to, like you said, and I'm not a Giant fan,
- 12:27Speaker 2: I'm a Jets fan. The news about Jackson Dart is
- 12:31Speaker 2: devastating because Like I said, I don't hate the Giants.
- 12:35Speaker 2: I don't hate them as either, but I don't hate
- 12:36Speaker 2: the Giants. But to see them go through what they're
- 12:39Speaker 2: going through right now, this is just devastating news. So
- 12:43Speaker 2: it's tough for Big Blue right now. It's tough for
- 12:45Speaker 2: the G-Mills fans right now. I don't know where they
- 12:48Speaker 2: turn because Jameis Winston clearly ain't.
- 12:51Speaker 1: It. So you're not rocking with Jameis. You say they
- 12:53Speaker 1: need to go out and find somebody. Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 2: If they want to save the season, if they're going
- 12:58Speaker 2: to take it on the chin.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco, Mitch Trubisky. I mean, it's not,
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's not, it's not a lot of great, great options
- 13:06Speaker 1: out there. I mean, Justin Fields, maybe, maybe, uh, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: they want to come up off of Justin Fields, which
- 13:11Speaker 1: to me, Justin Fields is a glorified rugby player. I mean,
- 13:14Speaker 1: he's not an NFL quarterback. Yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Maybe I'm being hard on Jameis. Uh, it's just, I
- 13:21Speaker 2: don't know, man. I don't see it. I don't see it.
- 13:23Speaker 1: So I feel like Jameis might have something for us, man.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Jameis might get it together a little bit, but, uh, Listen,
- 13:28Speaker 1: Jameis is willing to toss that thing up there, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: at the end of the day. And with that entire
- 13:33Speaker 1: practice of him running against the ones, and they play
- 13:35Speaker 1: the Titans next week, and we know the Titans are
- 13:37Speaker 1: not very good, even though, shit, last week they, you know,
- 13:40Speaker 1: who did they take down to the wire? Somebody that
- 13:43Speaker 1: we thought they were going to beat. At the end
- 13:44Speaker 1: of the day, oh, I think the Vikings. But, yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 1: at the end of the day, like, yo, you see
- 13:50Speaker 1: this Giants team and you think, ah, you know, they
- 13:52Speaker 1: got some– They win big against the Cowboys. You think, okay,
- 13:57Speaker 1: Game 2, both the Jets and the Giants in Game 2,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I said this last week, they had a chance to
- 14:01Speaker 1: really show New York fans, their own fans, and the
- 14:04Speaker 1: entire league that they were legit. And unfortunately... That did
- 14:08Speaker 1: not happen. The Giants, they got a tough road coming forward.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But when it comes to the Jets, come on, man.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I got it. Like, yo, is Aaron Glenn? Oh, listen,
- 14:16Speaker 1: he's a brother. He's a former great, great Jet. He's a,
- 14:20Speaker 1: you know, I had my pops got the jersey with
- 14:22Speaker 1: Glenn and I'm sorry, with Coach on the back and
- 14:25Speaker 1: number one. But the original, yeah, the ones that they
- 14:29Speaker 1: won back then. He got that shit. Or to Glenn's
- 14:32Speaker 1: first game. My dad, I think he's still on the
- 14:33Speaker 1: Glenn train. We haven't talked all week, and I purposely
- 14:35Speaker 1: haven't talked to him before I did this because I
- 14:37Speaker 1: didn't want him to influence me. But the thing is,
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's like, yo, I'm sorry, man. It was a problem
- 14:42Speaker 1: last year. It's now a problem again this year. Him
- 14:46Speaker 1: not understanding clock and score and situation. And it potentially,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and I think this week you got to be pretty
- 14:54Speaker 1: clear that that it cost us a game. Is Glenn
- 14:57Speaker 1: over his head?
- 14:59Speaker 2: I wouldn't say that. I want to say that he's
- 15:01Speaker 2: on the learning curve.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I hear it. I hear it. Yo, we ain't got
- 15:04Speaker 1: time for that shit. It's the NFL, baby.
- 15:07Speaker 2: That's the thing. And that is the realest thing. The NFL,
- 15:10Speaker 2: there's no time to wait for you to catch up.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's not like back in the day where you could
- 15:13Speaker 2: take a couple of games and you get into your mode.
- 15:16Speaker 2: But I don't want to say that he's in over
- 15:18Speaker 2: his head. I think if he brought in help as
- 15:20Speaker 2: far as clock management, there are people that know how
- 15:22Speaker 2: to really experience veterans The chatter that bothers me is,
- 15:26Speaker 2: you know, Tomlin is out there, right? Tomlin is out there,
- 15:33Speaker 2: and everyone that I can hear within earshot is like,
- 15:37Speaker 2: this is the guy to go get. No one wants
- 15:39Speaker 2: to have the patience for Aaron Glenn. I'm like, listen, man. Again,
- 15:42Speaker 2: he's a defensive coordinator. This is his first job as
- 15:46Speaker 2: a head coach. Let's give him a little slack. And,
- 15:48Speaker 2: you know, like I said, he does need help, though.
- 15:50Speaker 2: You're absolutely right. He does need help. I forgot what
- 15:52Speaker 2: it was. We were up like 10.
- 15:54Speaker 1: We're up 10 points with five minutes to go.
- 15:56Speaker 2: And I, and I, I'm like, all right, I might
- 15:58Speaker 2: get to my mom. So I'm just jumping the car.
- 15:59Speaker 1: We're right.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I put it on a radio and I'm like, what
- 16:01Speaker 2: is going on? I'm in traffic. I'm like, is this
- 16:03Speaker 2: really happening right now? I'm just like, I'm just turning
- 16:06Speaker 2: this off. Cause I'm gonna get ruined the rest of
- 16:07Speaker 2: my day. I didn't even see the ending. I was
- 16:10Speaker 2: so pissed. I was like, I can't even look, man.
- 16:13Speaker 1: So there's a couple of things to look at. You got, okay.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Like you said, 10 point lead with five minutes to go.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You have the failed fourth down. Where you run it
- 16:21Speaker 1: on third down and then it's a long one. It's
- 16:24Speaker 1: a long one. You haven't been able to run all game.
- 16:27Speaker 1: You could tell that the entire game plan of the
- 16:30Speaker 1: Packers was we're going to make them throw the ball.
- 16:32Speaker 1: They want to run the ball. We are going to
- 16:34Speaker 1: blitz people into these gaps and we are going to
- 16:37Speaker 1: play like they're running. And they were getting stops. Our
- 16:40Speaker 1: offensive line is supposed to be one of our strong suits.
- 16:43Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, they were getting
- 16:45Speaker 1: beat all fucking day. All right. Membu himself, who's supposed
- 16:48Speaker 1: to be the man. Everybody's graded so well, all this stuff.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I've seen bunches of clips of him getting dominated or
- 16:54Speaker 1: just getting run around. And so, hey, once you see that,
- 16:57Speaker 1: it's the fourth quarter. We already know what time it is.
- 16:59Speaker 1: We already see what's going on. I personally think on
- 17:02Speaker 1: a long one, at that point, yo. You throw the ball,
- 17:06Speaker 1: a little play action, do something, give yourself another option, something.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I just thought that it was way too predictable. And,
- 17:13Speaker 1: you know, Frank Wright, listen, the NFL is so fucking
- 17:17Speaker 1: week to week, man. Last week, Frank Wright was the man.
- 17:20Speaker 1: He's like, oh, look at him. He's, you know, what
- 17:24Speaker 1: a great game plan. We're running the ball. We're doing
- 17:26Speaker 1: it this week. he makes some mistakes and now you
- 17:29Speaker 1: want to jump all over the guy. So I understand
- 17:31Speaker 1: sometimes that that's just us being reactionary as fans. But
- 17:34Speaker 1: to me, you have the fail fourth down, then you
- 17:37Speaker 1: have that long punt return that we gave up. That
- 17:39Speaker 1: was a killer, which our special teams is supposed to
- 17:41Speaker 1: be so good. But in that game, we end up
- 17:44Speaker 1: having two fumbles of punts that we end up recovering
- 17:49Speaker 1: and it being okay. But I think that had a
- 17:51Speaker 1: lot to do with Aaron Glenn being so sheepish at
- 17:53Speaker 1: the end of regulation and not To me, that's unexcusable.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I don't care what we're talking about. There's three things
- 18:01Speaker 1: from Aaron Glenn. The fact that he let the clock
- 18:04Speaker 1: run off. Okay. And then the fact that we didn't
- 18:10Speaker 1: kick the ball in overtime. Your defense at this point
- 18:14Speaker 1: right now is the best defense in the NFL. Number
- 18:17Speaker 1: one rated defense right now. And so at that point,
- 18:20Speaker 1: you're talking about, okay, well, we wanted to have a
- 18:23Speaker 1: long drive and run the ball down there and take
- 18:24Speaker 1: a bunch of clock. You ain't been running the ball
- 18:26Speaker 1: all game. So your best situation is to get a
- 18:30Speaker 1: punt and get one or two first downs and kick
- 18:33Speaker 1: a field goal and win the game.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and, you know, old school football in that moment
- 18:37Speaker 2: was not the way to go. The problem for me,
- 18:41Speaker 2: and I don't want to get into, like, even some
- 18:42Speaker 2: of the plays and how it all came down. There's
- 18:45Speaker 2: a saying, I forgot where I picked this up from,
- 18:46Speaker 2: but there's a saying, and it's going to kind of
- 18:48Speaker 2: back what you're saying, The fish rots from the head.
- 18:51Speaker 2: So what happens when the team finds itself in that
- 18:54Speaker 2: position and you start having those failures, it trickles down, right?
- 18:58Speaker 2: And now the players are lacking confidence. They're not going
- 19:01Speaker 2: into the situation. A play like that, he should have bootlegged.
- 19:03Speaker 2: He should have bootlegged out and either ran it or
- 19:06Speaker 2: thrown it downfield and take that shot. I actually agree
- 19:08Speaker 2: with you about that. He should have passed it. But
- 19:09Speaker 2: I think you bootleg, come out naked, and he rolls out,
- 19:12Speaker 2: and you have, you know, he can run, right? And
- 19:15Speaker 2: he has a cannon, so I'm like, all right, no.
- 19:17Speaker 2: But my point to to bringing that up is that again,
- 19:20Speaker 2: fish rocks from the head. I think the team, I
- 19:22Speaker 2: think there was some of the play calling, some of
- 19:24Speaker 2: the indecision, some of the failures. We have to learn
- 19:26Speaker 2: how to win. We have to learn how to win
- 19:28Speaker 2: in those moments. And I think this is a lesson.
- 19:30Speaker 2: This is a lesson for that team. So we'll see
- 19:32Speaker 2: where they go from here. How do they respond to this?
- 19:34Speaker 2: It's all a process. When you ask the question about
- 19:37Speaker 2: Glenn and his future as head coach, what happens from here, right?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Because everybody gets punches. How do you react?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Where is this?
- 19:42Speaker 2: Is he in the film room? Does he realize that
- 19:44Speaker 2: he understands the mistakes that were made and prevents him
- 19:46Speaker 2: the following week? Or are we going to see a
- 19:47Speaker 2: routine here? where these guys continue as an organization, as
- 19:51Speaker 2: an entire team to make these kind of mistakes? Then
- 19:53Speaker 2: your question becomes much more valid where, you know what,
- 19:56Speaker 2: maybe it's time to look elsewhere.
- 19:58Speaker 1: He definitely needs somebody in his ear talking to him
- 20:01Speaker 1: about clock situations. And basically, you know, what you just said,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and I think it is dead on, is this you know,
- 20:08Speaker 1: are we going to look back as this is just
- 20:10Speaker 1: like a bad loss or are we going to look
- 20:12Speaker 1: at it as like the beginning of proof that like
- 20:15Speaker 1: maybe Aaron Glenn's not ready to be a head coach
- 20:16Speaker 1: and the Jets are still a bad team. Every team,
- 20:19Speaker 1: remember last year after week one and that was in
- 20:24Speaker 1: a loss, you felt optimistic about the Jets. And that
- 20:27Speaker 1: was last, you know, so, so, so with this week
- 20:30Speaker 1: goes like this, we get Detroit next week and let's
- 20:32Speaker 1: say we get waxed all of a sudden it's like, damn.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yeah. It's funny because I, I don't feel, and I
- 20:39Speaker 2: look at us play whatever, I don't feel we're a
- 20:41Speaker 2: bad team now. I think that's in our past now.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I think this is a good team.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'm just saying I felt the same way this time
- 20:46Speaker 1: last year. After week one, we played well, but we
- 20:51Speaker 1: lost at the end. Then week two, we come out,
- 20:53Speaker 1: we lose. But you still kind of felt like, all right,
- 20:56Speaker 1: we saw that team that we saw week one with
- 20:58Speaker 1: Justin Fields. We could be all right. I'm just saying
- 21:00Speaker 1: that we are one week and a blowout away from
- 21:04Speaker 1: feeling like the season's fucking over. And I think we're
- 21:06Speaker 1: a better team, too. I came into this league with
- 21:09Speaker 1: a whole bunch of optimism. But when you feel like
- 21:11Speaker 1: the coach is over his head and then if you
- 21:13Speaker 1: get waxed by a Detroit team that actually hasn't even
- 21:15Speaker 1: looked at the first two weeks. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I mean, that's it. That's why his his I don't
- 21:20Speaker 2: I don't want to I don't want to make this
- 21:21Speaker 2: sound like a must win game for him.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:23Speaker 2: But honestly, it kind of feels like a must win game.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Because you're going to have all of these scenarios play
- 21:29Speaker 2: out again. You're going to have the same conversation. It's
- 21:31Speaker 2: going to feel like the same old Jets. If they're
- 21:33Speaker 2: making those mistakes, if they're not executing late.
- 21:35Speaker 1: The turnovers last week. Come on, man. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Not the turnovers. The penalties last week. And then also
- 21:44Speaker 1: the inability to recover a fumble and make a turnover.
- 21:47Speaker 1: We forced four fumbles.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, you mentioned it earlier with the number
- 21:52Speaker 2: one D. And you have to give him credit. I
- 21:55Speaker 2: think of Rob Salazar, right? These guys come over as defense.
- 21:59Speaker 2: You think of Todd Bowles, too, right? These guys come
- 22:01Speaker 2: over as defensive coordinators, and the defense is stout. The
- 22:04Speaker 2: defense gets stops, and they play well. But it's on
- 22:07Speaker 2: the offensive side of the ball where you just don't
- 22:09Speaker 2: see the organization responding the way that it should. So
- 22:12Speaker 2: maybe that's on Frank Wright, but maybe not.
- 22:16Speaker 1: At the end of the day, got to get a quarterback.
- 22:18Speaker 1: That's what it always is. To me, in my opinion,
- 22:20Speaker 1: the Jets, if they ever get to a point where
- 22:23Speaker 1: they're eliminated from the playoffs, then Klubnick has to start
- 22:26Speaker 1: every game for the rest of the season. just to
- 22:28Speaker 1: be able to see what you have in him because
- 22:29Speaker 1: you have three first round picks next year. So you
- 22:32Speaker 1: have to see if this guy is worth, you know,
- 22:33Speaker 1: if you, if you come out of this year feeling
- 22:35Speaker 1: like he could be your Jackson dart, then that's a
- 22:38Speaker 1: different situation. But if you feel like, Hey, we still
- 22:41Speaker 1: need to get the quarter to me, whenever people don't
- 22:44Speaker 1: take that chance, they should take the chance on a
- 22:45Speaker 1: quarterback every year. It's a fucking roll of the dice
- 22:48Speaker 1: every single year. If you don't have one, your first
- 22:51Speaker 1: pick should be one until you, until you get lucky
- 22:53Speaker 1: and you get the guy because nothing matters until you
- 22:55Speaker 1: get that guy.
- 22:57Speaker 2: And rejuvenated, reinvented Geno is awesome. I'm going to be honest.
- 23:01Speaker 2: I think that what he's done in his career is
- 23:02Speaker 2: great to still be giving the game this much at
- 23:05Speaker 2: a high level. So that's a lot about him. But yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 2: you're right. I mean, you have to find that guy
- 23:10Speaker 2: because he's not that guy. He's a lot of things,
- 23:11Speaker 2: but he's not that guy.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Right. He's the prototypical bridge quarterback. And I think he
- 23:17Speaker 1: knows that. And who gives a fuck how he feels
- 23:18Speaker 1: about it?
- 23:20Speaker 2: You know what you got to do.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Exactly. Exactly.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 23:24Speaker 2: He knows what time it is. Go for him. Like
- 23:26Speaker 2: I said, shout out to him, man. He's had an
- 23:28Speaker 2: amazing career, all things considered. He's had an amazing career.
- 23:30Speaker 1: All right, so back to you, Yankees, man. So Aaron Judge,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you know, yesterday your boy Aaron Boone comes out and
- 23:37Speaker 1: he says that, you know, Judge is going to be
- 23:39Speaker 1: out at least through the wild card series. It's looking
- 23:42Speaker 1: like lower leg injury. They're not saying exactly what it
- 23:45Speaker 1: is and giving details. Judge comes out today and says,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I'm playing in the wild card series. I mean, first
- 23:51Speaker 1: of all, you know, do you think he's actually going
- 23:54Speaker 1: to play And then how much are you going to
- 23:56Speaker 1: be pins and needles that at any moment it could
- 23:58Speaker 1: all go bad for him? Because it seems like he
- 23:59Speaker 1: always gets injured when he's just walking or something like that.
- 24:03Speaker 1: And then also, my question is that if he says
- 24:06Speaker 1: that he can't, if he ends up not being able
- 24:08Speaker 1: to play consistently throughout the playoffs, do the Yankees still
- 24:11Speaker 1: have any chance?
- 24:14Speaker 2: That's a tough question. So, I mean, as far as
- 24:17Speaker 2: Aaron Judge, you know, I had mentioned earlier that at
- 24:20Speaker 2: the time, the Sonny Gray thing, and that really was
- 24:23Speaker 2: the prime of his career. You know, now he's a
- 24:24Speaker 2: little older and he does get hurt kind of easily.
- 24:27Speaker 2: And when he does get hurt, he's out forever. I'm
- 24:30Speaker 2: past that point. We're walking on pins and needles over
- 24:33Speaker 2: his health. I'm really past that point. I think that
- 24:36Speaker 2: when he's in the lineup, obviously it's great because you
- 24:39Speaker 2: get some of the protection. So you'll see guys like
- 24:40Speaker 2: Garcia and Angelio and these guys get some protection. So
- 24:44Speaker 2: that's good. I think those guys are good hitters. Belly,
- 24:46Speaker 2: I think Belly's a great hitter. So, but you need protection.
- 24:49Speaker 2: You need somebody in that lineup, even if it was Stan,
- 24:51Speaker 2: even if you can get Stan back.
- 24:53Speaker 1: You mean having a young, like all time, great home
- 24:55Speaker 1: run hitter in the middle of your lineup is a
- 24:57Speaker 1: good thing. And most baseball teams should want to be
- 24:58Speaker 1: able to do that. Okay. We'll talk a little bit more.
- 25:01Speaker 1: We'll talk a little bit more about that here in
- 25:02Speaker 1: a second. Go ahead. Sorry. Yeah.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Something like that. Something like that. But so, yeah, so
- 25:06Speaker 2: just from the fact that he'd be healthy and he
- 25:08Speaker 2: provides that protection in the lineup for the other guys,
- 25:10Speaker 2: I think that would be awesome. Cause you, you, the, uh,
- 25:13Speaker 2: he was back for, I'm going to say maybe a
- 25:15Speaker 2: couple of weeks, uh, And people were being a little
- 25:17Speaker 2: bit more careful with him, knowing who he is. And
- 25:20Speaker 2: you saw Bellinger getting pitches that he probably wouldn't have
- 25:22Speaker 2: gotten if the judge wasn't there. So just from that aspect,
- 25:25Speaker 2: I'm fine. But I think if he doesn't return, it's
- 25:28Speaker 2: not the end of the world for us. It's interesting.
- 25:30Speaker 2: And what I've heard, it's a calf. I forgot where
- 25:32Speaker 2: I've heard this already, but I hear that it's a
- 25:33Speaker 2: calf injury for him. It's interesting, though, that Aaron Boone
- 25:38Speaker 2: says one thing and not 24 hours later, he's saying
- 25:40Speaker 2: something different. That's the kind of discord you usually don't
- 25:44Speaker 2: see with them. And it may be a flag to
- 25:46Speaker 2: a bigger problem there. But I don't know. Yeah, I
- 25:49Speaker 2: found that interesting when he came out and said that.
- 25:51Speaker 2: But we'll see. We'll see what actually happens.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, listen. Aaron Judge is obviously a generational force when
- 25:59Speaker 1: he's in the lineup. Now, in the playoffs, he has
- 26:02Speaker 1: not been his best. He has not been a playoff riser.
- 26:04Speaker 1: He's no Jalen Brunson, that's for sure. But, you know,
- 26:07Speaker 1: as we know, with a guy like A-Rod, all it
- 26:09Speaker 1: takes is one hot playoffs to totally change that entire
- 26:13Speaker 1: narrative about yourself. And then who knows where it goes
- 26:15Speaker 1: from there. But, yeah, if he has one hot playoffs
- 26:17Speaker 1: and brings the Yankees a World Series championship, ain't nobody
- 26:21Speaker 1: going to be talking about all these other years where
- 26:22Speaker 1: he didn't get it done. All it takes is one.
- 26:26Speaker 2: All it takes is one. All it takes is one.
- 26:29Speaker 1: And, you know, I always want everybody to be healthy
- 26:33Speaker 1: and especially, you know, great players like him. And like
- 26:37Speaker 1: I said earlier, you know, with the Knicks winning the
- 26:39Speaker 1: championship here, I know what it would do for the city. Obviously,
- 26:41Speaker 1: if the Mets were involved, I would still want that
- 26:43Speaker 1: to be, you know, that would obviously be my focus.
- 26:46Speaker 1: But at this point, you know, that season's been done
- 26:48Speaker 1: for months. So now it's interesting to see this Yankees
- 26:54Speaker 1: team as they go in because you have the whole
- 26:56Speaker 1: thing with Aaron Judge, that cloud, who knows exactly what's
- 26:59Speaker 1: going to happen there. You know, we've gotten two different
- 27:01Speaker 1: reports in two days, so who knows what it's going
- 27:02Speaker 1: to be tomorrow. But at the end of the day,
- 27:07Speaker 1: They have the pitching staff now that I feel like
- 27:10Speaker 1: they haven't had here in recent years that really gives
- 27:13Speaker 1: them a chance to shorten games. If you take your
- 27:16Speaker 1: best eight pitches or so and don't have to expand
- 27:19Speaker 1: out of much more than that, and you get some really,
- 27:21Speaker 1: really big, long innings from your best guys, now you
- 27:24Speaker 1: have a chance to, like I said, shorten series and
- 27:27Speaker 1: make that type of run. At the end of the day,
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's not usually hot hitting that wins World Series. It's
- 27:33Speaker 1: almost always... the arms getting hot at the right time,
- 27:36Speaker 1: and the Yankees this year with some new additions and,
- 27:39Speaker 1: you know, some guys being healthy have a chance to
- 27:40Speaker 1: do that.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's funny because the Yankees style of
- 27:44Speaker 2: play where it's all or nothing, home run ball or famine,
- 27:50Speaker 2: I've always thought it hurts them. It's great for the
- 27:52Speaker 2: regular season. I don't think it works in the playoffs.
- 27:54Speaker 2: And I think that's one of the things that's haunted
- 27:56Speaker 2: Aaron Judge in his career because they've played that way
- 27:59Speaker 2: since he's been a Yankee. We don't really work on
- 28:01Speaker 2: moving runners over. We don't really play small ball. It's
- 28:03Speaker 2: all or nothing with a feast of famine. But, you know,
- 28:06Speaker 2: that being said, this team can get timely hitting. This
- 28:11Speaker 2: team has the pitching rotation to shut people down. That's
- 28:15Speaker 2: what counts in the playoffs. So I am optimistic about
- 28:18Speaker 2: the playoffs. We got Jazz back. We need Jazz to
- 28:20Speaker 2: get in rhythm, obviously. Are you a Jazz guy? I mean,
- 28:24Speaker 2: we're going to lose him now. And I hate that
- 28:26Speaker 2: more than anything.
- 28:27Speaker 1: He's a very polarizing figure in Yankee land. So where
- 28:32Speaker 1: are you at with him?
- 28:33Speaker 2: I would love to keep him. It's a shame that
- 28:35Speaker 2: it got to this point. There's some things I don't
- 28:37Speaker 2: like about him where he has terrible plate discipline. He
- 28:41Speaker 2: swings at anything, man. I used to love Vladimir Guerrero.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Vladimir was the same way, but Vladimir gave you contact. Senior,
- 28:48Speaker 2: Vladdy Senior.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 2: He can golf it from his shoe.
- 28:52Speaker 1: A ball that bounces. Okay, he can hit it for
- 28:54Speaker 1: a home run. Yeah.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Vladdy was awesome, man.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Yo, I have Vladdy in a list the other day.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Somebody asked about, like, you have an outfield, and you
- 29:02Speaker 1: have a man on third with less than one out,
- 29:05Speaker 1: with one out or two outs or less than two outs,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and you want to make an outfield. Like, who would
- 29:11Speaker 1: you put out there? And I say, you know, whenever
- 29:14Speaker 1: I do lists, I don't ever put anybody that I've never,
- 29:18Speaker 1: that I didn't watch personally play. So Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I know they had great odds, but I'm not putting them.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So I threw out there, I had in center field, Griffey,
- 29:27Speaker 1: in left field, Ichiro, and in right field, Vlade. Vlade's
- 29:29Speaker 1: one of my favorite non-Mets players of all time, just
- 29:33Speaker 1: as far, I mean, the cannon, the crazy, like, wild
- 29:36Speaker 1: plate discipline, like, the way to just go opposite field.
- 29:39Speaker 1: And back in the, MLB MVP 2005, which is 2004,
- 29:45Speaker 1: which is like one of the greatest video games of
- 29:46Speaker 1: all time, Vlad Guerrero was the man in that game.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Well, I remember, you know what, I'll be honest with you, Vlad,
- 29:54Speaker 2: and I was a diehard Yankee fan. I loved Don Mattingly.
- 29:57Speaker 2: But Vladimir Guerrero was the first official baseball jersey I
- 30:01Speaker 2: ever purchased. Because like I said, five tools, man. The
- 30:05Speaker 2: guy could run. The guy had a cannon, like you
- 30:06Speaker 2: just said. And while I kind of make it seem
- 30:09Speaker 2: like a lack of play discipline, that's probably not true
- 30:12Speaker 2: because he always had contact. He always made contact. You
- 30:14Speaker 2: weren't striking him out, right? But there was no pitch
- 30:16Speaker 2: he didn't like. The problem with Jazz is he has
- 30:19Speaker 2: the same scenario, except he doesn't have contact. He has
- 30:21Speaker 2: way too many strikeouts and he bats in the low 200s.
- 30:23Speaker 1: So, None of these guys hit anymore. There's like three
- 30:26Speaker 1: guys hitting over 300 now. What happened?
- 30:28Speaker 2: I hate it, man.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I hate it. Everybody's all about launch angle, and they're
- 30:32Speaker 1: trying to pull everything.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Velo, whatever, man.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I'm sorry. And like you said, in the World Series,
- 30:37Speaker 1: when it really counts, I go to the last time
- 30:40Speaker 1: the Mets were in the World Series in 2015. They
- 30:43Speaker 1: played against the Kansas City Royals, and that was that team.
- 30:47Speaker 1: All they did was just slap hits, and they get
- 30:50Speaker 1: the ball out there and make guys make plays.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Love that team. Love that team, man. They play baseball.
- 30:54Speaker 2: The way that I grew up watching baseball, I love
- 30:57Speaker 2: that team. Yeah, but I don't know. I'm still looking
- 31:00Speaker 2: forward to the playoffs. Like I said, we'll see what
- 31:02Speaker 2: happens with judges' health. They're saying Grisham is going to
- 31:05Speaker 2: get back. That'll help. The dream would be that Grisham
- 31:10Speaker 2: gets back. Judge gets back and Stan gets back and
- 31:13Speaker 2: we're all in the lineup and then pitchers have to
- 31:15Speaker 2: deal with all of them and then we'll see where
- 31:17Speaker 2: it goes. But I'm a little disappointed with the injuries,
- 31:20Speaker 2: but I'm not down on the team.
- 31:22Speaker 1: As we know, it's health over everything. Are you an
- 31:25Speaker 1: Aaron Boone guy?
- 31:30Speaker 2: It's tough because either you believe that he's just a
- 31:34Speaker 2: mouthpiece and he's not calling plays and the numbers are
- 31:37Speaker 2: doing all the work behind the scenes and he just
- 31:39Speaker 2: does what he's told. Or he's making these bad decisions
- 31:43Speaker 2: and this and that. At this point, I've kind of
- 31:46Speaker 2: had enough of him and Cashman. If they decided it
- 31:49Speaker 2: was time to make a change, I'd make the change.
- 31:51Speaker 2: They probably would wait till after Judge retires, I think,
- 31:53Speaker 2: at this point before they go rocking the boat like
- 31:55Speaker 2: that to do anything that drastic. But we'll see. If
- 31:58Speaker 2: you're asking me if I'm an Aaron Boone guy, I'm
- 32:00Speaker 2: still rooting for him. I still want the best for him.
- 32:02Speaker 2: But I've seen enough of him.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I mean, of course you want the best for him.
- 32:05Speaker 1: He's your manager. So you want things to go good
- 32:08Speaker 1: for him. But yeah, I listen, I, you know, I
- 32:11Speaker 1: wouldn't care for Aaron Boone very much if he was
- 32:12Speaker 1: my manager, but also, you know, I also thought Carlos
- 32:15Speaker 1: Mendoza was the answer and would, and there was a
- 32:17Speaker 1: time where was singing his praises. So this can all
- 32:20Speaker 1: change in a New York minute. And at the end
- 32:22Speaker 1: of the day, you know, Hey, I hope that I listen. I,
- 32:26Speaker 1: I wish the best for the, I hope they, I
- 32:27Speaker 1: hope they can go into it and be healthy and
- 32:29Speaker 1: we can see what happens. And it ends up, you know, fall,
- 32:31Speaker 1: you know, falling that way.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I appreciate you. I got to tell you, man, I
- 32:36Speaker 2: find your Mets interesting because they remind me of that
- 32:40Speaker 2: 2021 Knicks team where there's a mixture of talent that's
- 32:45Speaker 2: in their prime and then a nice pool of young talent, right?
- 32:50Speaker 2: And there's some money available. They've given Soto all this money, obviously,
- 32:54Speaker 2: and Alomar's... Not Alomar. Hit me, Alomar. Why is his
- 32:57Speaker 2: name escaping me? The Boricua. Oh, my God. The Boricua.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Lindor.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Lindor, thank you. He said Matt. That's why his name
- 33:05Speaker 2: is escaping me. But, you know, a lot of talent.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Come on, I got to give it to you a
- 33:09Speaker 2: little bit, right? A little real bad. But there's a
- 33:12Speaker 2: lot of talent there, and it's interesting what they do
- 33:14Speaker 2: in this offseason. I think the GM probably has to go.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I think the GM probably has to go. I don't
- 33:18Speaker 2: follow him closely enough, but I think he probably has
- 33:20Speaker 2: to go. But there's a Benj, right? Benj? I forgot
- 33:24Speaker 2: how you pronounce the kid's name.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Carson Benj.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Carson Benj. Thank you. Talented, talented kid, man. I like
- 33:29Speaker 2: that kid. I think he's pretty good. Ewing is good.
- 33:32Speaker 2: I don't know, man. We'll see what they do, man.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I'm really interested in the offseason. I want to see
- 33:36Speaker 2: how they move.
- 33:37Speaker 1: You know, I'd be really excited going into this offseason
- 33:40Speaker 1: just for the fact that, you know, like you said,
- 33:42Speaker 1: we do have some really young pieces. We also found some,
- 33:45Speaker 1: you know, young arms. You know, you have Thornton who's
- 33:49Speaker 1: come in and looking like he's going to be a
- 33:50Speaker 1: part of the rotation. You know, Jonah Tong, obviously. McClain
- 33:54Speaker 1: is a young ace in the making. Right. Maybe Senga
- 33:58Speaker 1: is a guy that is better suited for the bullpen,
- 34:00Speaker 1: but I don't know. I think we might need to
- 34:01Speaker 1: move on from him. Bichette's going to be coming back.
- 34:04Speaker 1: This would all be so much better if we weren't
- 34:06Speaker 1: also just, you know, really looking for a power hitting
- 34:09Speaker 1: first baseman who was going to hit a lot of
- 34:11Speaker 1: home runs and, you know, drive in a lot of runs.
- 34:14Speaker 1: And we didn't, you know, just decide. to get rid
- 34:17Speaker 1: of him. You say that they probably got to get
- 34:19Speaker 1: rid of Stearns. They absolutely positively have to get rid
- 34:24Speaker 1: of David Stearns, that fucking nerd who's, as, as, as
- 34:29Speaker 1: Pete Alonzo said, you know, he'll be looking at his
- 34:31Speaker 1: graphs and charts when Pete Alonzo goes into the hall
- 34:33Speaker 1: of fame and in fucking Orioles hat, this shit will
- 34:37Speaker 1: never not make me in, Yo, bro. Oh, check me out, man.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I'm one of these dudes like, you know, I go
- 34:43Speaker 1: back and forth with people on Twitter, but only when
- 34:45Speaker 1: I'm still having fun with it. As soon as I
- 34:46Speaker 1: start to get a little bit angry, like feel angry,
- 34:49Speaker 1: I typically am like, I don't want to do this.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I'm not gonna put my energy into this. To this day, today,
- 34:54Speaker 1: I spent way too much time in my very busy
- 34:56Speaker 1: day going back and forth with somebody who's like, well,
- 34:58Speaker 1: Pete had, you know, every chance to come back to
- 35:01Speaker 1: the Mets. He just wanted to chase all the money.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Nobody says that Aaron Judge wanted to chase all the
- 35:06Speaker 1: money because he turned down the Yankees' initial offer, then
- 35:09Speaker 1: went out to San Francisco and talked to them and
- 35:12Speaker 1: put the squeeze on them and made them pony up
- 35:14Speaker 1: and give him all the money that he could possibly get.
- 35:17Speaker 1: That's what these guys should do when they're... This is
- 35:19Speaker 1: their job. They should be getting as much money as
- 35:21Speaker 1: they possibly can when they do their job. And so
- 35:24Speaker 1: people who get mad and say that the Knicks could
- 35:27Speaker 1: have kept him and don't realize that, first and foremost,
- 35:29Speaker 1: this is a non-salary cap sport. So therefore... Having the
- 35:33Speaker 1: richest owner who's also supposed to be a fan means
- 35:37Speaker 1: that this never happens. You talked about the Wilpons before.
- 35:40Speaker 1: We went through that. When we got Steve, we were like, yo,
- 35:42Speaker 1: this is great. Shit like this is not going to happen.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Us losing Zach Wheeler to the Phillies is not going
- 35:47Speaker 1: to happen. And this guy is over there. I'm pretty
- 35:50Speaker 1: sure he went yard again today. He's up at like
- 35:51Speaker 1: 42 dingers and 100 plus RBIs. He does it every
- 35:55Speaker 1: fucking year, yo. And you let this guy get away,
- 35:58Speaker 1: nobody will ever make it since Stearns has to go.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it never made sense to me. I actually liked Alonso.
- 36:04Speaker 2: He should have retired at Met. And again, I'm not
- 36:06Speaker 2: a Mets fan. That moment, because he needed that moment.
- 36:10Speaker 2: That moment against... And I think the guy ended up
- 36:11Speaker 2: becoming your saver. I mean, closer, but he's hurt now.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Devin Williams, yes.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Devin Williams, thank you.
- 36:16Speaker 1: He was the Yankees closer for a year, and then
- 36:19Speaker 1: now he's the Mets closer. And he hasn't been very
- 36:21Speaker 1: good in either stint, and now he's hurt.
- 36:23Speaker 2: And now he's hurt. But it's just funny to watch
- 36:26Speaker 2: it play out, because before... They laid out all of
- 36:29Speaker 2: the money that they laid out for Soto, right? It
- 36:31Speaker 2: was no holds barred. We're securing the top baseball free
- 36:34Speaker 2: agent available, and they did that. And that was great
- 36:36Speaker 2: for them. I applaud them for that. That was a
- 36:38Speaker 2: great move. You have to pony up for Alonzo in
- 36:41Speaker 2: that moment. You have to. There's no way that you don't.
- 36:44Speaker 2: And the difference between what he ended up getting from Baltimore,
- 36:48Speaker 2: now you have to live with that.
- 36:49Speaker 1: It was just years. It was just years. They were basically,
- 36:52Speaker 1: the Mets did not want, the whole Mets, the whole
- 36:54Speaker 1: thing was that we don't know what, we're talking about, well,
- 36:56Speaker 1: we project that in his, because of the type of
- 36:59Speaker 1: player he is, his size and all these other things,
- 37:01Speaker 1: in years four and five, he's not going to be
- 37:03Speaker 1: that good. And that shit is, I mean, that shit
- 37:05Speaker 1: is such a backwards way of thinking for so many reasons.
- 37:08Speaker 1: But yeah, go ahead.
- 37:09Speaker 2: But the time is now. You're a win-now team. They're
- 37:12Speaker 2: a win-now team. You're not playing for four or five years.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Soto's prime. You can't waste years of Soto's prime.
- 37:17Speaker 2: What are they doing? That was, I mean, that's probably
- 37:19Speaker 2: why he has to go alone, but I'm sure there's
- 37:21Speaker 2: more reasons than just that. But yeah, man, I was
- 37:24Speaker 2: actually hoping he ended up with the Yankees, man. That
- 37:26Speaker 2: shit would.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Have been even worse. Honestly, this whole Mets season, it
- 37:34Speaker 1: hasn't even really bothered me that much because I'm still
- 37:37Speaker 1: on that high for the Knicks. Like you said earlier.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I'm almost like, there's so many people I know that
- 37:41Speaker 1: are like, yeah, you know, that's over, but I'm already
- 37:44Speaker 1: thinking about next season. I'm not even thinking about next
- 37:46Speaker 1: season yet. I'm not worried about that. Like you said,
- 37:49Speaker 1: we got a little bit less than a month. I
- 37:51Speaker 1: want some more time to bask in this joy that
- 37:54Speaker 1: I've waited for my entire life. You know what I'm saying?
- 37:58Speaker 1: But when it comes to this Mets season, I've kind
- 38:01Speaker 1: of been like, yo, whatever, whatever. And then when Pete
- 38:03Speaker 1: came and got number 300 and threw the fucking bat
- 38:06Speaker 1: and looked and was like, he will prove you wrong. Oh,
- 38:09Speaker 1: come on, man. That shit hurt my heart. That's a moment.
- 38:13Speaker 1: During that series, my wife, who just follows the shit
- 38:17Speaker 1: because I follow it, but she's been with me for
- 38:19Speaker 1: 20 years, so she's seen Pete entire career.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Thank you. She's like, this just isn't right, man. She
- 38:29Speaker 1: looked like she had tears in her eyes. She was like,
- 38:30Speaker 1: I can't believe seeing this shit.
- 38:32Speaker 2: That's our guy. Yeah, that is a brutal moment. And
- 38:36Speaker 2: it was a necessary moment.
- 38:37Speaker 1: You give the guy the years.
- 38:38Speaker 2: What are you really arguing about? You just gave Soto
- 38:40Speaker 2: the amount of money you gave him. You gave him sweet.
- 38:42Speaker 2: You gave him, I think it was 15 years or
- 38:43Speaker 2: whatever it was they gave him. How can you come
- 38:45Speaker 2: back to a guy like Alonzo, who's a homegrown Met,
- 38:48Speaker 2: has that legacy with the fans? You kind of have
- 38:50Speaker 2: to keep a guy like that. And I don't want
- 38:52Speaker 2: to put him in a judge category, but this is
- 38:53Speaker 2: a guy that that he's with the Mets for years.
- 38:56Speaker 2: He's come up with the Mets. He's proven himself with
- 38:58Speaker 2: the Mets now. He had that moment with Williams. You
- 39:01Speaker 2: have to get that deal done. I never understood that.
- 39:03Speaker 2: And again, I was rooting for him to end up
- 39:05Speaker 2: being a Yankee because we could have really used a
- 39:07Speaker 2: guy like that at the time. But, you know, it
- 39:09Speaker 2: is what it is, man. Shout out to Pete, the
- 39:12Speaker 2: polar bear.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I'll never get over this shit, man. Shout out to
- 39:16Speaker 1: Howie Rose, who, you know, he called his last game
- 39:19Speaker 1: longtime Mets play-by-play guy. Been on the radio, done some
- 39:23Speaker 1: TV as well. Howie is the absolute best and absolute
- 39:27Speaker 1: Mets almanac. There's no game you talk about that it's
- 39:29Speaker 1: like that he doesn't. that he just can talk about it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: He was there going back to the 60s and shit.
- 39:34Speaker 1: So shout out to Howie Rose, man. Shout out to
- 39:37Speaker 1: Howie Rose. Obviously, he's going to rest, but I hope
- 39:40Speaker 1: we find a way to get him something. Get him
- 39:41Speaker 1: a weekly pop-in on a podcast somewhere, something like that.
- 39:45Speaker 1: But yeah, man.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Fire Stearns, man. Fire Stearns and then go from there.
- 39:51Speaker 1: But he's not going to fire him. He's not. I
- 39:55Speaker 1: really don't think he's not because I think that he
- 39:58Speaker 1: looks at Stearns and he says, you know, I have
- 40:00Speaker 1: to give this guy his time for his thing to
- 40:03Speaker 1: come into fruition. Look what he did with Milwaukee and
- 40:06Speaker 1: they're still sustainable and have one of the best records
- 40:08Speaker 1: in the MLB after he leaves. Now, I just don't,
- 40:11Speaker 1: to me, when, this is not Milwaukee, right? This is
- 40:15Speaker 1: New York City. And so when we get Stern, Stern's
- 40:17Speaker 1: is a New York guy who supposedly grew up, you know,
- 40:20Speaker 1: as a Mets fan. But if you know Joe Benigno,
- 40:23Speaker 1: one of the things that he says about Stern's that
- 40:25Speaker 1: is definitely true is that you could tell, you know,
- 40:28Speaker 1: I don't know if you could have a good, if
- 40:29Speaker 1: you could have a catch with David Stern's right now.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Like you could tell he's never played a sport in
- 40:34Speaker 1: his life. And so that's the thing is that, you know,
- 40:37Speaker 1: you got to have a certain pulse of the city
- 40:39Speaker 1: and understand that like this guy is important to this
- 40:43Speaker 1: team to this entire organization, to this entire fan base.
- 40:48Speaker 1: You don't let him hit home run 300 as an opponent.
- 40:54Speaker 1: You can't let that be the case. What are we doing?
- 40:59Speaker 2: Let me ask you something, just because I think about Cashman.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I'm a little fed up with Cashman too, but I
- 41:05Speaker 2: think us as fans, we've been hard on him. This year,
- 41:08Speaker 2: he's done an excellent job, I actually think, despite the injuries.
- 41:11Speaker 2: to put that staff together, to react the way that
- 41:13Speaker 2: we did after Soto decided to go elsewhere and invest
- 41:16Speaker 2: the money that they did in the arms, you see
- 41:19Speaker 2: the proof in the pudding, right? Like, yeah, okay, we
- 41:21Speaker 2: lost Soto, and maybe we're not the offensive monster that
- 41:24Speaker 2: we were before, but now we have one of the
- 41:26Speaker 2: best rotations in baseball. So we can't say that he
- 41:29Speaker 2: didn't adjust, he didn't switch in a moment and say, hey,
- 41:32Speaker 2: we're going this way, because he did. When I look
- 41:35Speaker 2: at Stearns, I don't know, man. I don't know. And
- 41:37Speaker 2: I know he hasn't been there long. Like you said,
- 41:39Speaker 2: he still has to let his plan play out. I
- 41:41Speaker 2: look at Cashman. Cashman's been here, I don't even know anymore, man.
- 41:43Speaker 2: I lost track 15, 16 years, whatever it is. As
- 41:46Speaker 2: a Met fan, how do you look at Cashman?
- 41:50Speaker 1: I think Cashman is straight up just like a talking
- 41:52Speaker 1: head for Hal Steinbrenner. I think him and Boone, the
- 41:57Speaker 1: reason that they continue to keep their jobs is because
- 42:00Speaker 1: they do whatever he says, and they don't give him
- 42:05Speaker 1: too much pushback. I think that you know, George with
- 42:09Speaker 1: some of the things, like when it comes to like
- 42:11Speaker 1: the Soto situation, like George would be rolling over in
- 42:13Speaker 1: his grave. George would have never let him, if he
- 42:16Speaker 1: was like, if he was in a Pete Alonzo situation,
- 42:18Speaker 1: he never lets a guy like Pete Alonzo get away
- 42:20Speaker 1: in that scenario. That's the thing that bothers me so
- 42:23Speaker 1: much about Cohen is that I thought that Cohen, was
- 42:26Speaker 1: coming in to be our version of Steinbrenner, the guy
- 42:29Speaker 1: with all the money who's actually really a fan of
- 42:31Speaker 1: the team, who says to the GM at that point,
- 42:35Speaker 1: says to the president of baseball operations, hey, nerd, shut
- 42:38Speaker 1: the fuck up. And, you know, I'm going to talk
- 42:40Speaker 1: to Pete directly and we're going to get this done. Pete,
- 42:43Speaker 1: you go out there and you find a deal. If
- 42:45Speaker 1: you can find a deal, you come back and you
- 42:47Speaker 1: tell me what it is and we'll match it. How
- 42:48Speaker 1: about that, Pete? but they don't even talk to this guy.
- 42:51Speaker 1: So the fact that Cashman and, and, and, and, you know,
- 42:54Speaker 1: and what he's done here recently, it's just, it's first,
- 42:57Speaker 1: they're just the Yankees, you know, all these different teams,
- 43:01Speaker 1: they're letting different ownership and private equity come in. And
- 43:04Speaker 1: at the end of the day, those people are looking
- 43:06Speaker 1: at graphs and charts.
- 43:08Speaker 2: It's crazy how the game is changing, man. How these
- 43:10Speaker 2: teams are being run. It's crazy.
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's very scary shit. The whole private equity thing getting
- 43:15Speaker 1: involved in sports. It's something that is horrible. If you
- 43:18Speaker 1: really want to listen to a real good podcast that
- 43:20Speaker 1: talks about it, Pablo Torre does his podcast, and he
- 43:24Speaker 1: does it with this dude, Stavros Halkias, who is a really,
- 43:28Speaker 1: really funny stand-up comedian, Stavi, baby. And Stavi, like, breaks
- 43:35Speaker 1: it down, like, how terrible just the overall, not just
- 43:40Speaker 1: when it comes to sports, he breaks it down even
- 43:41Speaker 1: talking about something like fast food, where, like, Wendy's sucks
- 43:45Speaker 1: now because private equity owns Wendy's. And instead of giving
- 43:48Speaker 1: you that big ass piece of lettuce, they give you
- 43:50Speaker 1: chopped up lettuce because that costs less to give you.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Instead of that great spicy chicken sandwich that had all
- 43:55Speaker 1: that good real chicken. That shit ain't the same as
- 43:57Speaker 1: it once was when it comes to a place like, well,
- 44:00Speaker 1: Wendy's is not just owned. It's not just Dave Thomas anymore.
- 44:03Speaker 1: It's private equity. So Stavi's a bigger dude. So it's
- 44:06Speaker 1: very funny for him. That's the way he describes it.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I'm going to check it out. I'm going to check
- 44:10Speaker 2: him out.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Check it out.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm definitely going to check it out, but dig
- 44:13Speaker 2: it up. Another point I want to make really quickly,
- 44:16Speaker 2: not that I want to sidetrack here, but I'm thinking
- 44:18Speaker 2: about the parallel you just made with Stearns and with
- 44:20Speaker 2: Cashman and some of the points you made about Cohen.
- 44:23Speaker 2: And it's funny because it automatically takes me to our next.
- 44:27Speaker 2: A lot of the success we've had recently is the
- 44:30Speaker 2: reverse of what you're describing for Cohen, where James Dolan
- 44:34Speaker 2: took a step back and allowed his basketball people to
- 44:37Speaker 2: make basketball decisions. In this parallel now, though, we're like,
- 44:40Speaker 2: you know what? This is a situation where Cohen needed
- 44:42Speaker 2: to step up. Now, every situation is unique. Organizations of
- 44:46Speaker 2: different sports are even different. And I get it. But
- 44:49Speaker 2: when you think about the Knicks, the Knicks got that
- 44:50Speaker 2: success when Dolan finally stepped back and let his folks
- 44:54Speaker 2: do what they do. So it's just an interesting parallel
- 44:56Speaker 2: for me. Yeah.
- 44:57Speaker 1: And when it comes to the Knicks, I mean, that's
- 44:59Speaker 1: where you and I and, you know, our relationship begins
- 45:02Speaker 1: and the place that we definitely put. I've always said, like,
- 45:06Speaker 1: I'm a very big fan of the Knicks, Mets and Jets,
- 45:08Speaker 1: but the Knicks are way above everything. I have always said, like,
- 45:11Speaker 1: you know, my pops is 20 years older than me
- 45:15Speaker 1: and he had season tickets to the Knicks for over
- 45:18Speaker 1: 15 years. I grew up in the Garden. If you
- 45:21Speaker 1: go to my ex and you go and you look
- 45:23Speaker 1: at my top picture, something that I reposted that I
- 45:28Speaker 1: put on Ben Stiller's page, it's a picture of me
- 45:30Speaker 1: in the Garden with his Ewing jersey on that probably
- 45:33Speaker 1: goes down to my knees way back in the day
- 45:36Speaker 1: as a shorty. That's awesome. I've always said, I just
- 45:42Speaker 1: need the Knicks to win a championship. And I just
- 45:45Speaker 1: want to be around my dad when it happens. And
- 45:46Speaker 1: now I'm lucky enough to, I have a 10-year-old son
- 45:50Speaker 1: who he is as invested. I mean, he knows he's
- 45:53Speaker 1: a bigger Knick fan than most people you know. And
- 45:55Speaker 1: I've got to watch him lose a couple times and,
- 45:58Speaker 1: you know, things not go our way and got him
- 46:01Speaker 1: to take his time really becoming an actual Knick fan
- 46:04Speaker 1: when it really matters. He actually broke his tibula that day.
- 46:09Speaker 1: That day, the first game of our basketball season. I mean,
- 46:12Speaker 1: he's young, so he's already back on his feet, running around,
- 46:14Speaker 1: doing his thing. But the first game of the junior
- 46:16Speaker 1: Knicks basketball season, which I coach, and he's the starting
- 46:19Speaker 1: point guard, he breaks his tibula. So that night he
- 46:22Speaker 1: was in the cast. It was the best, the best
- 46:25Speaker 1: distraction we could ever get. And for me personally, like I,
- 46:30Speaker 1: I still, there's time. I was sitting on my bed
- 46:31Speaker 1: the other day. My wife was on the other side
- 46:33Speaker 1: and I'm, you know, just on X and like, I
- 46:35Speaker 1: see some sort of highlight and I'm watching it. I
- 46:37Speaker 1: think it was like a different angle of like the
- 46:39Speaker 1: OG tip from like the lower left where like bridges there,
- 46:41Speaker 1: you see bridges get over top of them and get
- 46:43Speaker 1: all hype and shit. And like, I was just looking
- 46:46Speaker 1: off into the distance like, yo, man, we really did it.
- 46:48Speaker 1: I still feel like that sometimes right now. And I'm
- 46:52Speaker 1: not in any rush for things to get started. But
- 46:56Speaker 1: one thing that we are seeing as far as some
- 46:58Speaker 1: Knicks news coming up here today is Shams comes out
- 47:02Speaker 1: with a report, says that Knicks and Karl-Anthony Towns, the
- 47:07Speaker 1: contract talks have stalled. I did see Ian Begley come
- 47:11Speaker 1: out later and say that it's been going pretty smooth.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Do you think this is even a story or is
- 47:18Speaker 1: this a nothing burger?
- 47:20Speaker 2: For me, it's a nothing burger. I think that this
- 47:25Speaker 2: organization hasn't gone into that second apron. They've twisted themselves
- 47:31Speaker 2: into a pretzel to avoid that second apron. And that
- 47:35Speaker 2: tells me they're trying to maintain flexibility over anything. because
- 47:38Speaker 2: I think they recognize that they may have to make
- 47:41Speaker 2: a move. They may have to trade somebody. They may
- 47:43Speaker 2: have to, not that they want to, but they were
- 47:46Speaker 2: willing to let Mitch go to stay out of that
- 47:48Speaker 2: second apron. When it comes to Carl, man, Jalen is
- 47:51Speaker 2: due for a contract. The last thing you ever want
- 47:53Speaker 2: to imagine is that you're breaking up Jalen and Carl
- 47:57Speaker 2: over money, right? So I don't know. I think it's
- 48:01Speaker 2: a nothing burger, and I think they get it done
- 48:03Speaker 2: over time. I don't think that you have the success
- 48:05Speaker 2: that you've had in this city and in this organization
- 48:09Speaker 2: and let those two key pieces walk away. So I
- 48:12Speaker 2: think they get it done down the road. I don't
- 48:14Speaker 2: think it ends up being an issue. If you see
- 48:16Speaker 2: him in a blockbuster at the break, that'd be amazing, right?
- 48:19Speaker 2: Because anything is possible. But yeah, man, I think it's
- 48:22Speaker 2: a nothing burger, man. I think it's a slow, slow
- 48:24Speaker 2: news cycle for Shams and he maybe jumped the gun
- 48:28Speaker 2: on something. I don't know, but I don't think it's
- 48:29Speaker 2: anything of note long term.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Sean's been taking a few L's here recently too. So
- 48:35Speaker 1: it would be crazy if like tomorrow, like, you know,
- 48:37Speaker 1: all of a sudden like the contract got done and
- 48:39Speaker 1: it would be another Sean's L. The second apron talk.
- 48:42Speaker 1: So I think because of his, his reputation, that being Dolan,
- 48:48Speaker 1: you have a lot of people who, you know, just today,
- 48:51Speaker 1: you know, somebody who's making a conversation like, well, they're
- 48:53Speaker 1: never going to go into this. So, you know, Carl
- 48:55Speaker 1: should get everything. He, he should get all that money,
- 48:58Speaker 1: you know, fuck Dolan or whatever. And the second apron.
- 49:00Speaker 1: And I'm like, You really don't understand how the second
- 49:02Speaker 1: apron operates. It's not about Dolan saying, like, I don't
- 49:06Speaker 1: want to go in the second apron because of all
- 49:07Speaker 1: the taxes. Dolan has always shown he's been willing to
- 49:11Speaker 1: spend it. 100%. so at the end of the day
- 49:13Speaker 1: his issue was him meddling too much and getting involved
- 49:16Speaker 1: and you know you know uh superseding donnie walsh when
- 49:19Speaker 1: it comes to contract negotiations and things like that at
- 49:22Speaker 1: the end of the day dolan i'm sure he wants
- 49:26Speaker 1: to do whatever he can to keep this team together
- 49:28Speaker 1: the second apron is leon wanting to keep that flexibility
- 49:33Speaker 1: as you said nick fans please please stop making the
- 49:36Speaker 1: mistake of saying silly shit like yo The reason that,
- 49:40Speaker 1: you know, that these guys, Blunson should get all his
- 49:42Speaker 1: money and Kat should get all his money. You know,
- 49:45Speaker 1: Dolan shouldn't get a discount. No, it's about us being
- 49:48Speaker 1: able to keep them all together and then being able
- 49:51Speaker 1: to make a move like Alvarado at the deadline, which
- 49:54Speaker 1: we know was integral in our eventual winning of the championship.
- 49:58Speaker 1: We can't make that move if we're above the second apron.
- 50:02Speaker 1: People don't understand that. Yeah.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Well, I don't want to act like I'm a cap expert,
- 50:06Speaker 2: but I understand that it's incredibly prohibitive, that second neighbor.
- 50:10Speaker 2: And I do believe that we actually lose picks or
- 50:13Speaker 2: something to that effect, which hurts how you can trade
- 50:17Speaker 2: players because you need the draft capital to move these
- 50:20Speaker 2: guys around, too. You have to sweeten deals up. So
- 50:22Speaker 2: I think it's that, man. I think it's just an
- 50:24Speaker 2: incredibly restrictive, prohibitive place to be, and they're avoiding it
- 50:28Speaker 2: at all costs. Whether you want to say that it's
- 50:30Speaker 2: James Dolan, whether it's Leon Rose, it's almost indifferent to me.
- 50:34Speaker 2: The point is they don't want to go into it,
- 50:35Speaker 2: and that's all that matters at the end of the day.
- 50:37Speaker 2: But I think they get that done. We've seen people
- 50:40Speaker 2: leave some money on the table. We'll see what Josh
- 50:43Speaker 2: does because Josh is also due, I believe. So we'll
- 50:46Speaker 2: see what Josh says as well. I totally believe that
- 50:48Speaker 2: Deuce gets traded this year for that same reason, that
- 50:52Speaker 2: they want to keep their cap space and flexibility. But,
- 50:55Speaker 2: you know, we're probably looking way down the road at
- 50:56Speaker 2: this point. But, yeah, I don't know.
- 51:00Speaker 1: So, I mean, as far as Deuce, I think that
- 51:02Speaker 1: there's a lot to be seen between now and the
- 51:05Speaker 1: trade deadline. I really think that, like, at this point,
- 51:08Speaker 1: if you're going to try and trade him for, say,
- 51:10Speaker 1: like a rim-running, you know, shot-blocking young big, it's got
- 51:14Speaker 1: to be somebody pretty legit like a Diabate or something
- 51:16Speaker 1: like that because Deuce has shown to be a very
- 51:19Speaker 1: valuable player. To me, always the biggest issue with Deuce
- 51:23Speaker 1: is the fact that he can't dribble. I get in
- 51:26Speaker 1: conversations with people and they're like, I know, but look
- 51:28Speaker 1: at his stats. He's so elite at all these different things.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Having a guy who's his size who can't dribble is
- 51:34Speaker 1: just such a deficiency that hurts you so badly. Like,
- 51:37Speaker 1: that's why you had to go out and get Jose Alvarado.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Because you needed one other player other than Brunson that
- 51:41Speaker 1: you could put on the court that could bring the
- 51:42Speaker 1: ball up against pressure. And Deuce cannot do that.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I always think when it comes to Deuce, man,
- 51:48Speaker 2: and I like Deuce. I don't want to come off
- 51:49Speaker 2: the wrong way. But it's just some of his limitations....
- 51:54Speaker 1: You know what?
- 51:54Speaker 2: I think of this moment specifically. There was a game.
- 51:56Speaker 2: I can't tell you exactly the game. I could look
- 51:58Speaker 2: it up and find out and get back to you.
- 51:59Speaker 2: But there was a game late in the game where
- 52:01Speaker 2: Mike Brown had given Deuce the opportunity to take the
- 52:04Speaker 2: final shot. Jalen, I think, was hurt. I don't know
- 52:07Speaker 2: if it was an ankle or whatever, but he was hurt.
- 52:08Speaker 2: He wasn't available.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Deuce didn't even get a shot off, I don't think. Right, right.
- 52:13Speaker 2: But if you think about that game, if you look
- 52:15Speaker 2: at that huddle and you can see the moment where
- 52:18Speaker 2: Mike Brown makes the call of what they're going to do,
- 52:21Speaker 2: Cat literally rolls his eyes. Cat literally rolls his eyes like, oh.
- 52:26Speaker 2: And then when you watch what Deuce does, it's like, oh,
- 52:28Speaker 2: Jesus Christ, that was terrible. Because he's just not a
- 52:32Speaker 2: shot creator. He's going to need a screen. He's going
- 52:33Speaker 2: to need a pic. He's going to need some sort
- 52:36Speaker 2: of action to really get him free. And when you're
- 52:39Speaker 2: trying to close out a game, you need to be
- 52:40Speaker 2: able to dribble. You need to be able to create space.
- 52:42Speaker 2: You need to be able to create. And he just
- 52:44Speaker 2: doesn't have that. It's something I wish he had in
- 52:45Speaker 2: his bag, but he doesn't. So ultimately, I think that's
- 52:47Speaker 2: probably why. I would hate to see him go to
- 52:49Speaker 2: somebody like Miami. I think he would thrive in a
- 52:50Speaker 2: Miami type of environment. Um, so, so hopefully, you know,
- 52:54Speaker 2: nothing like that, but yeah, I think his days are
- 52:56Speaker 2: numbered as a Nick.
- 52:57Speaker 1: I love Deuce because he's homegrown. He's our guy. Um,
- 53:01Speaker 1: you know, I used to think that he, he was
- 53:02Speaker 1: a great defender. Now I think he's just an okay defender.
- 53:04Speaker 1: He's not as impactful as a defender as he once was. Yeah,
- 53:07Speaker 1: his inability to get to the basket. And every once
- 53:09Speaker 1: in a while, he shows you flashes. He'll get to
- 53:11Speaker 1: the basket and, like, yam on somebody. But it all
- 53:14Speaker 1: comes back to the lack of handle. It's all the
- 53:16Speaker 1: handle with him. He can't create on his own because
- 53:19Speaker 1: when Deuce starts... Look, there was a time where I
- 53:21Speaker 1: hadn't played in a while, and then I went and
- 53:23Speaker 1: I played in the men's league. And I played in
- 53:24Speaker 1: this men's league, and I was playing with a bunch
- 53:26Speaker 1: of young boys and shit. And that was one of
- 53:27Speaker 1: the first things I noticed was that beyond just, like,
- 53:29Speaker 1: you know, my inability to stop myself or land and
- 53:35Speaker 1: how much harder that was, But also, like, when I
- 53:38Speaker 1: would dribble and when cats would lie, I'd get in
- 53:40Speaker 1: any sort of traffic, cats get around me, I was just, like,
- 53:42Speaker 1: picking up my dribble immediately and trying to get rid
- 53:43Speaker 1: of it or some shit like that. When I was young,
- 53:45Speaker 1: you know, I had some hands and shit like that.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Deuce is like that. He's an NBA basketball player.
- 53:50Speaker 2: He's 6'2.
- 53:51Speaker 1: And as soon as he gets around any sort of, like,
- 53:54Speaker 1: you know, any type of traffic, he immediately picks the
- 53:58Speaker 1: ball up. And like you said, he needs to be
- 54:00Speaker 1: given an advantage to be effective. He cannot create an
- 54:02Speaker 1: advantage for himself or anybody else. He's an elite shooter.
- 54:06Speaker 1: All the metrics say that he's a really good rebounder.
- 54:09Speaker 1: All the on-off metrics, we've been hearing it for years.
- 54:11Speaker 1: When him and Jalen Brunson are on the floor at
- 54:13Speaker 1: the same time, it's just the numbers are outstanding, everything.
- 54:16Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, when you watch
- 54:18Speaker 1: him all the time, it's just like, bro, if you
- 54:20Speaker 1: say Deuce or Jose Alvarado, it's Jose Alvarado by a mile.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Yeah, just because you need that shot creation, you need
- 54:28Speaker 2: somebody on the floor that can get through that pressure,
- 54:30Speaker 2: and you need somebody that can take pressure off of Jalen.
- 54:32Speaker 2: And Deuce is not that guy. So I think he's a,
- 54:35Speaker 2: he's a combo. He's a combo guard at the end
- 54:37Speaker 2: of the day. And it just is what it is. Yeah.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Yeah. He's a guy that like, like, like you said,
- 54:41Speaker 1: he's his deal is so team friendly that if you
- 54:44Speaker 1: could move him for a piece, especially something that's young,
- 54:47Speaker 1: that's under control for a few more years that you
- 54:50Speaker 1: think can be, you know, something that is.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Right. Right. If you can make that move right now,
- 54:56Speaker 1: I think you got to make that move in a heartbeat.
- 54:58Speaker 1: The cat contract. I don't think it's a big deal. Okay,
- 55:01Speaker 1: there's a couple ways. I think it's a little bit nuanced.
- 55:04Speaker 1: I don't think it's a big deal. But you know what?
- 55:06Speaker 1: I was really looking forward to going into this season
- 55:09Speaker 1: with both Cat and Bridges having just free, cool heads.
- 55:15Speaker 1: Because those guys last year... With Bridges and all the
- 55:19Speaker 1: five picks and some of the different criticism, that clearly
- 55:22Speaker 1: bothered him. Cat last year, before the season, him being
- 55:25Speaker 1: rumored to be involved in the Giannis sweepstakes, I think
- 55:28Speaker 1: really bothered him. I think that by the end of
- 55:30Speaker 1: the season, honestly, right after the trade deadline, Cat started
- 55:33Speaker 1: playing way better on all fronts. And Cat is clearly
- 55:37Speaker 1: an emotional guy. I think that the biggest factor in
- 55:42Speaker 1: the Knicks winning their first championship in 53 years, is
- 55:47Speaker 1: the fact that Cat all of a sudden didn't just
- 55:52Speaker 1: become a serviceable defender. He became a plus impactful defender.
- 55:56Speaker 1: That's the biggest factor in us winning this championship. Jalen
- 55:59Speaker 1: been this dude, man. We know that. We know that.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Jalen been doing this for years. Other people try not
- 56:04Speaker 1: to recognize, but look at the playoff leader in fourth
- 56:07Speaker 1: quarter points the last few years. It's been Jalen. He
- 56:10Speaker 1: been that dude. So Cat, I just hope that, you know, if,
- 56:13Speaker 1: if Sean, if what Sean's saying is true and there's,
- 56:16Speaker 1: you know, some sort of discrepancy, cat's an emotional guy.
- 56:19Speaker 1: And I, I would, I would hate to go into
- 56:21Speaker 1: this season with anything over our head. I want us
- 56:24Speaker 1: to just go in just thinking about repeating and nothing else. And, um,
- 56:27Speaker 1: like I said, hopefully it gets done. If not soon, um,
- 56:30Speaker 1: definitely by the end of training camp.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Yeah. I, I don't know. I don't, I definitely, I'm
- 56:36Speaker 2: not concerned about it. I'm not, you mentioned McHale earlier. Um,
- 56:41Speaker 2: And like I said, Josh, earlier, there's a lot of,
- 56:43Speaker 2: I don't know what you call them, hanging nails. There's
- 56:46Speaker 2: a lot of little scenarios that could become a factor
- 56:49Speaker 2: when it comes to contracts and players and how players
- 56:52Speaker 2: get dealt with. Like I said, I mentioned Deuce being traded.
- 56:54Speaker 2: I absolutely see him being traded. He's still an asset.
- 56:56Speaker 2: He's in his prime, more or less. So this is
- 56:58Speaker 2: his peak. He had a poor playoff performance, right? And
- 57:01Speaker 2: I think he'll straighten that out in a regular season
- 57:03Speaker 2: and he'll get his value back up. And we should
- 57:05Speaker 2: see a trade like that. But when it comes to Carl,
- 57:07Speaker 2: you have to sign Carl, man. You have to sign Carl.
- 57:09Speaker 2: You have to keep this team together. You have to
- 57:11Speaker 2: push because this is your window. We had the conversation
- 57:13Speaker 2: earlier about the Mets, how the Mets let Pete Alonzo
- 57:17Speaker 2: get away. But this is a win-now team, and that
- 57:19Speaker 2: was a mistake for them. The Knicks are a win-now team.
- 57:22Speaker 2: So unless you're getting something back of note, which I
- 57:24Speaker 2: doubt is going to happen with Carl being who he is,
- 57:27Speaker 2: like you said, he changed his game. I was not
- 57:29Speaker 2: the biggest Carl Anthony Towns fan before he became to
- 57:32Speaker 2: the Knicks. I think he's changed as a Knick. I
- 57:34Speaker 2: think he's doing a lot of those things that you
- 57:35Speaker 2: mentioned defensively. Plus, I also think his attitude kind of changed.
- 57:38Speaker 2: I think he became more aware. And maybe it was
- 57:41Speaker 2: the trade deadline. Maybe those things do get in your
- 57:43Speaker 2: head and you're wondering how it plays out. And now
- 57:45Speaker 2: that you understand that those things are past and not
- 57:46Speaker 2: going to happen, you lock in. So maybe that is
- 57:49Speaker 2: what happened. I don't know. But who he is right now,
- 57:52Speaker 2: it would make sense if he is holding out for
- 57:55Speaker 2: more money. I just hope that that's not the case.
- 57:57Speaker 1: See, I don't see it because he's been making number
- 58:00Speaker 1: one pick money his entire career. There's nobody it seems
- 58:03Speaker 1: like being a Knick means more to other than maybe
- 58:05Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson. So to me, I think that, I don't know.
- 58:09Speaker 2: I just see it getting done.
- 58:10Speaker 1: I see it getting done. I mean, Leon Rose has
- 58:13Speaker 1: been his agent his entire life. Like, come on, man. Like,
- 58:15Speaker 1: until obviously he went into the front office. So you
- 58:18Speaker 1: already know what that's about. Like, I just, I don't
- 58:21Speaker 1: see there being any way that it doesn't happen. I
- 58:23Speaker 1: think it'll get figured out. But I really don't want it.
- 58:27Speaker 1: I don't want, like, I don't want the season to start.
- 58:29Speaker 1: And he's going, well, actually, you know what? You know,
- 58:31Speaker 1: the other factor in this is that his player option
- 58:35Speaker 1: for next year is like 60. So for him, he
- 58:37Speaker 1: might say, yeah, I'll play this year. I'll do next
- 58:40Speaker 1: year for 60, and then I'll take the discount after that.
- 58:43Speaker 1: But then if he goes for 60 next year, that
- 58:46Speaker 1: really starts to change the whole Nick equation and what
- 58:50Speaker 1: can be done. So I'm sure that, you know, the
- 58:52Speaker 1: one thing I do, one thing for me always with
- 58:55Speaker 1: any of these things is I trust Leon. Anybody who
- 58:58Speaker 1: don't trust Leon at this point, anybody who's like crying
- 59:01Speaker 1: about us not having a center or anything like that
- 59:03Speaker 1: or anything. Like, look, you might have certain feelings. I
- 59:05Speaker 1: was like, hey, why are we trading away all these
- 59:07Speaker 1: centers and these potential picks that could be center? in
- 59:10Speaker 1: the draft? At the end of the day, Leon knows
- 59:12Speaker 1: what he's doing. He's the Don. He moves in silence
- 59:15Speaker 1: like lasagna, and I trust him to do what's right.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Yeah, the other thing, too, with this team, and I
- 59:21Speaker 2: think we'll see it now, is that now they're champions,
- 59:23Speaker 2: and there's something that happens when you become a champion.
- 59:25Speaker 2: You've gone over the hump. You understand what it takes
- 59:27Speaker 2: to get over that hump. And it impacts who you
- 59:29Speaker 2: get day-to-day and game-to-game. So some of the things that
- 59:33Speaker 2: were challenges, the lack of focus, we're talking about that
- 59:36Speaker 2: streak they had. They lost maybe nine, including that one
- 59:39Speaker 2: to Dallas, where they were fielding a G League team.
- 59:43Speaker 2: And that was the last loss in that run. And
- 59:45Speaker 2: then they went on a tear after that. I don't
- 59:46Speaker 2: think you see that anymore. I think you see a
- 59:48Speaker 2: team that's locked in, that knows how to win. So
- 59:52Speaker 2: when it comes to the trade and the contracts and
- 59:53Speaker 2: all that, I'm sure something has to get played out.
- 59:55Speaker 2: But I think this team appreciates who they are and
- 59:56Speaker 2: what they are. So I'm not concerned about that.
- 59:59Speaker 1: So a question that you make me think about when
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: you talk about them being champions, and this is something
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: that I'm very interested to see going into next year,
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: do you think that Brunson and specifically Cat now get
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: a championship whistle? Or do they continue to, because, listen,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm biased. I know that I'm biased. Off
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: the top, I am biased, I know. The amount of
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: people that were watching that finals that, or not Knicks fans,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I saw Pacers fans talking about like, yo, what these
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: refs are doing to Cat is absolutely crazy. And we
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: see it all season long. I see the replay and
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, this is very clear. And they come
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: out and say the opposite. Do you think that there's
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: any chance that changes now with them being the defending champions?
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: I'm gonna say no. I'm gonna say no. And I
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: think that's probably, I think those things won't change. I
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: think that when it comes to New York, the way
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: that they call these games, Since Carmelo, since Ewing sometimes,
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: you just don't get that whistle in New York. I
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: don't know what that's about. We've never had the whistle.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: I don't know what that's about, man. I can't remember
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: any Knick that I felt had the whistle. Now that
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: they've won and it actually turns out to be that way,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: that'll be great. And we deserve it. And it should be.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: But I just don't expect it now. I don't.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Yo, Brunson.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: It's not going to change, man.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Brunson is the kid. I'm with you. I don't think
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: it's going to change either. I personally think that the
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: league specifically doesn't like Dolan.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Yeah, that's out there. That's out there.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: I've always thought that they were human, and I've always
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: thought that certain guys get whistles, and I've always thought
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: that part of Cat's issue with not getting whistles is
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: self-inflicted and is on him for certain things. We're not
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: even going to get deep into that, but I will
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: say this. I never once thought that, like, it could
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: actually be fixed. That, like, there could actually be, you know,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: plans made by the league and, you know, that are
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: put down and given to officials to do certain things
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: until I saw this finals. I mean, no one can
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: explain to me why after Wememiana threw Brunson to the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: ground by his face that afterwards when they got to
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: look at that in slow motion, they didn't say that
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: that's a flagrant foul. No one can ever explain that
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: to me.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Why you got to remind me of that right now, man?
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: That just brings anger right back to me. I got
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: the agita right now. I'm so glad we won, but
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: that really pissed me off because it was just a culmination.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: How much more do you want us to take? He's
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: literally flinging this, man.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: If you don't win game five... What they going to
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: do about Wimby stepping under Brunson's foot, clearly on purpose.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: You could tell the rest of them they fucked up
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: by how Brunson got up in his face and he
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: let that shit fly and didn't give him anything. Because, honestly, look,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: at the end of the day, my man JB, he
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: kept coming back stronger. Put up foot 45 on their
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: head in game five. And, you know, Nixon five became
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: a refrain that I will use for the rest of
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: my life. But Brunson... Brunson, the kid's becoming a superstar.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: He's about to be on Law & Order. This weekend,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: he's going to be on SNL. And I love all
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: the attention that he's getting. I love the fact that
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: he is getting this true superstar New York, you know,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: King of New York treatment that he deserves. Yes. The
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: SNL thing makes me a little bit nervous. I saw
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: a promo for it today. It was pretty good. Just because, man,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: I just, look, you know Brunson's going to prepare well, right?
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Of course. Being funny is not necessarily always an easy
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: thing to do. He's with professionals. SNL, though, overall as
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: a show, hasn't been just consistently great in a very,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: very long time. I'm just hoping my guy, you know,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: that he has a good showing for himself. Not for me.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Not for Nick. Whatever. I'm going. But I'm hoping he
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: has a good showing. You know, like I said, it
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: makes me a little bit nervous. But overall, I got
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: to have faith in the captain.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that because of the kind of guy
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: that he is, that he is so humble, that he
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: is so well-rounded, that he's grounded in who he is,
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: I think you can have a lot of fun with
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: that because of his personality. So I think they'll be
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: pretty creative. I've wondered if they would do like a skit,
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: something around social media, something around Nick's Twitter specifically. But
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: of course, that's because I'm on Nick's Twitter all day
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: and I'm corrupted by it. And I think that Nick's.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Twitter is the world. You ain't got the call in.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: They haven't had you come down and rehearse yet for
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: your cameo?
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: No, no, no. I haven't gotten into that yet. But
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I think that him in that moment, I think he's
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: going to, I think they're going to have fun with it, man.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: I think they're going to definitely do some kind of
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: law and order theme, right? I don't know if they're
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: going to do something where they read tweets or whatever,
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: but I think there'll be something social media related because
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: I don't know if people have picked up on it
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: or not. Maybe it's just me because I'm an older
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: head and this will be like common sense to you
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: younger guys. But they're definitely so in tune with social media.
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: They're so in tune in what not just the talking
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: heads are saying as much, but they're in tune with
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: what the actual fans are saying, what the actual diehards
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: are saying. So, and it's a thing for me. So
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: I'm like, if, if they found a way to incorporate
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: that in SNL, it would be hilarious. I think that
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: would be an amazing thing, but we'll see what happens, man.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: I think it'll be good though. I think they're going
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: to have a great time with it.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I want to see that. And like, I don't know,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: maybe during the monologue or at some point, Josh Hart
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: trolling him and maybe the whole like thumb situation. Oh
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: my God.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: They got material for days, man. They got material for days.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying, man. There's too much to work
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: with right now. They got the law and order thing
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: with Mariska. Uh, He's in there buying coffee and coffee
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: shops on his own. There's just a lot of ways
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: for them to go. With the Roommates podcast, they can
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: have fun with that if they were really getting creative
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: about it.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Brunson egg and cheese, no dick and balls.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: Yo, you saw that, right?
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about? Rob Markman No, I
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: haven't seen that. Rob Markman No, there's a young dude
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: who made a video that went viral where he went
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: into the bodega and he's talking to Ock and he's
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: got the phone up like this. He's like, yo, let
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: me get a bronsonega cheese. Yo, no dick and balls, aight?
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: And my dude is like, what? Yeah, y'all saw me.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Rob Markman Now I gotta go look for this, man.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: Now I gotta go look for this. Rob Markman Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: He's wildin'. He's wildin'. But yeah, listen, like you said, man.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: They got a lot to go off of. You know,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: this is, Saturday Night Live is a New York show.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: It's obviously a national show. It's crazy, right? Crazy, crazy.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I've been staying off of social media, man. I've been
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: working hard. I'm doing what I gotta do.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: What are you talking about? You're the most active person
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: on X. I know you ain't staying off of shit.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: What are you talking about? I don't count X, though, man.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Okay, that's not social. Okay, okay.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: I don't know. X is like, if I'm in between,
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: I got my screens at work, I'm having multiple calls
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: and meetings, and my phone is open. And I'll see
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: things and I'm multitasking and I'll just fire off a
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: tweet real quick. X is easy for me because I
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: can do that, right? Like I keep all my jobs going.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: I'm maintaining a conversation. I'll see some funny shit and
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: I'll comment on it quick. But it's funny that my
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: boss made a comment to me and he was like,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: hey man, what's going on with you and that phone?
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: And I'm like, what do you mean? And he was like,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: every time I come by, you're on that phone. And
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: I'm like, well, you keep coming by to give me
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: your work. So if you stop giving me your work, right?
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: All you do is send me your workbook. If he
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: would see this, he would crack up. But he knows
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: it's 100% true. Don't worry about me being on my phone, man.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Hey, it gets done. That's my biggest thing.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: I don't drop the ball, man. If the stuff gets done.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: then, hey, you know, don't ask me about what I
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: do and my time in between. That's how I stay
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: sane to be able to deal with your ass in
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: the first place. And maybe tell him, be like, yo,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: my man, like, you might not know, but I'm kind
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: of a big deal over here. Nah, never, never, never.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: You're going to be modest. You're going to be modest,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: but it's my job to be here and let them
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: know my guy at Nickinator on X. If you don't
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: know about him, if you're involved with the Knicks at all,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: you definitely know exactly who we're talking to. This is
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: royalty here. But, yeah, man, look, Nick, we're going to
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: get up out of here on this one. I got
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: one more question for you. Sure. Does Philly scare you?
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Not at all.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Too many egos, not enough basketball. I am a fan
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: of Tyrese Maxey. Jalen Brown, I love his talent, but
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: I think in between the years, he's an interesting person.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: I don't want to say anything bad, like in a
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: bad sense, but there's a lot with that individual, right?
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: As a human being, there's a lot of personality there.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: There's a lot to deal with there. his situation with Tatum,
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: I would have never broke that up, but now he's
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: in Philly, and now you're going to introduce LeBron to
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: the mix. So for me, no, they don't scare me
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: at all, man.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: It's interesting. I feel, you know, you brought up Tyrese Maxey,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: and to me, that is the point that's being lost here.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: You brought up not enough basketballs. And last year, when
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: we swept the 76ers, to me, the biggest... deficiency of
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: the six is a thing that like, as a, like
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: I looking at it from their point of view that
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: I would have been going crazy about was Maxie, not
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: being aggressive enough and a ball, just not finding him enough,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: especially in big moments. There was times in big moments
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: where I saw him hot potato on that ball. And
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, you're Maxie, bro. You need to like, like,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: let's go. We have seen when you have a guy who,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: especially a guard who handles the ball all the time,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: who can be relied on to take and make shots
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: down the stretch, what that can mean for your team and,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: And now I look at it and it's like, it's
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: not just that they have a bunch of guys who
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: score a lot. They're all ISO scores. LeBron, pick and roll.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Jalen Brown, he's an ISO guy. Maxie needs the ball
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: in his hand. He can do some transition stuff, but
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: a lot of him is ISO. Embiid, all he does
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: is ISO. It's not like those Warriors teams where everybody
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: was just, you know, catching and shooting. This is a
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: team where all of these guys are, are guys who
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: need the ball in their hand. And when LeBron is
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: running a pick and roll with Embiid, so now Jalen
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: Brown is going to be content with just like standing
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: in the corner and hoping that the ball gets passed
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: to him. I just don't see that working. I think
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: it takes time for teams to gel, and we haven't
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: seen this super team thing work in a while where
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: you just throw up and get together all these different
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: shiny parts and hope that it ends up coming out beautiful. Well,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: we haven't seen that work in a while. We've seen
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: the exact opposite work last year where you saw a
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: team that was built over time with complementary pieces and
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: were all able to come together. To me, Toronto, Miami even,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: and I actually think that Detroit, all those teams to
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: me scare me more than the Miami Heat do going
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: into next season.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: Yeah, the Miami Heat, I like Miami. I don't think
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: they have enough. I'd be more worried about Philly. The
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: issue is I don't think they figure it out. I
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: think that there's just not enough basketball. If LeBron is
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: true to his word, we're at 42 years of age
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: or however old he is now, he does feel comfortable
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: in that role where he's just a facilitator and he's
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: going to be their version of Josh Hart, I guess.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: And he's going to make sure, because his IQ is
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: basketball IQ is off the charts. He understands what's happening
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: on the court, what teams are trying to do to them.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: They could have success and they could be very dangerous.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: I just don't think that's going to happen. I think
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: that he's going to revert to who he is. Give
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: me the ball. I can do this. I'm LeBron. And
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: that's going to be the end of the end. And
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: then Jalen Brown's going to have patience for that. Cause
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: he's like, look, I came here to do my part too. And,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: I kind of expect that to implode. But I love Maxie.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I love Vijay Edgecombe. I think they were terrifying backcourt.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: And I'm kind of glad that they've introduced these other
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: guys to kind of mess that up. I was even
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: a fan of Kelly Oubre. I think Kelly Oubre off
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: the bench, bringing what he brings as far as defense.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I love Oubre's game.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: I think he's underrated.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: So a lot of- Where did Oubre go? Oubre went
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: somewhere and he stayed in the Eastern Conference, didn't he?
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Isn't he? I think he's still with Philly, isn't he?
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Nah, he went somewhere else, yo. Keep going. I'll find out,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Kelly Oubre. Yeah.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: And then- And then with Pacers.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: He went to the Pacers. Wow, did he really? Yeah.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: How the fuck I missed that? I fucking missed that.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: Yeah. You scared of the Pacers at all?
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: No. No, I think they had lightning in a bottle.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: I think Halliburton's hurt. I think he comes back. He's
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: going to be a good player, but I don't think
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: they're going to be what they had before he got hurt.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: I think the kid that's good for them is the
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: kid that they got from Boston. Is he still with them?
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: He's a swing.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Matherin. No, no, not him.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: He's gone. What is this guy's name? They was playing defense. Yeah,
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: he's a defensive dude.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: You're talking about Kelly Oubre, TJ McConnell, Jairus Walker, Larry
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Nance Jr., Jay Huff, Ben Shepard, Johnny Furphy. I never
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: heard of Johnny Furphy before. You're not talking about Nembhard,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: are you?
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: No, Nembhard I know, the Canadian kid I know, and
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: he's good. There was another kid, though. He's probably about six, five.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I guess he must've left, but he was a problem defensively.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: I felt that.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: Neesmith? Neesmith. Oh, Neesmith. I mean that, that fourth quarter
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: he had against us, man. I mean, that's, that shit is,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: I honestly, that was one of the hardest Nick losses
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: of my entire life. I haven't thought about it in
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: a long time because what happened last year, but game one,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: you know, not last season, but the season before in
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: the Eastern conference finals, one of the hardest losses of
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: my Nick's life.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: The, the, There have been duos. There have been teams
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: that I've seen, and people have a certain synergy. The
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: Lakers team that won the championship in the bubble, they
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: had Caruso and they had KCP, I believe it was.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: AD.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Very underrated, the chemistry that existed between those guys because
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: they did a lot of dirty work and they were
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: hard-nosed and they were defensive. I thought that Naismith and
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Nembhard had that kind of chemistry. I thought they were
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: all over the place. So I think they lost something there.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: It'll be interesting with Kelly Oubre. Maybe they can duplicate
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: that or not. But I'm definitely not worried about the paces.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: The teams, again, if Philly does figure it out, I
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: think Boston's going to be interesting. We'll see what happens
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: with Paul George, right? We'll see what happens with Paul George.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: But yeah, I'm definitely not. Maybe it just sounds biased,
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: but I think we can run it back. I don't
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: see why we couldn't, but.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Hey, obviously, as always, when it comes to any sport,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: it all comes down to injuries. That's the number one
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: factor for sure. The Knicks were super healthy last year.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: And so that was a big factor. And obviously, you
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: can only pray for that. And to me, yeah, like
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: I said, to me, the biggest threat is Toronto. Toronto
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: with Kawhi. If you have Kawhi healthy in the playoffs.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Do you have their roster up?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Toronto... We know they got, what's his name? We know
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: they got R.J. Barrett.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: But they don't have any bigs. They don't have any
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: big of note up there. They had the kid. I'm
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: terrible with names. I'm going to stop paying attention to
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: these guys' names.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Their centers, they got Nate Biddle is one of their centers.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I have no idea who that is. Trey Jemison, that guy.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Shout out to Trey. Yeah, shout out to Trey. He
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: got a ring. Portal is their starting center. But then,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: you know, so, yeah, you're right. They don't really have
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: anything extremely just, you know, intimidating as far as bigs
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: are concerned. But they're big everywhere else. And now when
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: you have Scott Barnes, R.J. Barrett, and Kawhi, basically those
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: are going to be your two, three, and four. You know,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: you got Kyle Anderson coming off the bench. I just
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: think that I look at that team last year and
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: what they were able to do, and then for them
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: basically to add Kawhi instead of Ingram, I think that's
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: a huge, huge upgrade. You know, that's a huge– but
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: the problem is with Kawhi is how many– first of all,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: can you– do whatever you can to be able to
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: make sure that he's healthy for the playoff run, whatever
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: that entails. Right. And then if that is like him only.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Playing 50 games, 50 games, 50.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Games, what are you going to be a 60, a 70,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: you know? So it's going to be interesting for sure,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: but a fully healthy them make me more nervous than
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: a fully healthy Philadelphia team and Philadelphia with them and
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: the whole Joel Embiid. I almost, there's a part of
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: me that thinks that they will be a better team
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: if Joel Embiid doesn't play like the less he plays.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Yeah. I think they would have to stagger Joel. as
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: far as the Madden success. But for Toronto, just to
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: close the point about Toronto, they're not beating us on
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: the boards. These teams that can't beat us on the
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: board or compete with us on the board, they're not
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: going to matter, man. Not in the playoffs. So I
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: think they'll be a good team. I think they'll be
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: fun to watch during the season. But in the playoffs,
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: they're not beating us on the boards. Joel Embiid shows
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: up on the boards, man. I know he's hurt or whatever,
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: but he's still a factor down there. So again, if
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: they can figure it out, I think they'll be competitive,
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: but I still don't think they stop us.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: The other thing about Toronto that worries me is that
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Our biggest advantage is that in the entire league, if
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: there's a player that you want to get a bucket
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: in a very, very clutch moment, we have the best guy.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: We have the best one. Kawhi's another guy that's on
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: that level. I still say we got the best guy,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: but there's nobody else in the Eastern Conference that when
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: it comes to getting a big bucket in a key
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: moment that I would fear more than a healthy Kawhi Leonard.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I'd just throw OG or McHale on him and whatever happens, happens.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: I wouldn't be worried about him. He's just not that
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: guy anymore. He's an older guy. He's been through some things.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: Kawhi was pretty nice last year. He was pretty nice.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Yeah, after sitting for I don't know how long. I
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: don't know. Plus, I know, because these guys know when
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: these things are rumbling, when the rumblings are in the background.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: He knew he was playing for a contract. He knew
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: he was playing.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: Oh, word. Oh, he played the most games in a
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: while last year because he was playing for that contract.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Uncle Dennis was like, you need to get out there
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: and get that brand, son.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: There are guys that love, I don't know, I don't
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: want to besmirch his name like this, because I do
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: feel that there are guys that play basketball for the
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: love of the game. and the craft and they invest
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: in them. And then there are guys that play because
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: of all of the things that come from the game, right?
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: And Kawhi, man, I don't know. I felt like Kawhi
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: could have been in the GOAT conversations at a point.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: I think Kawhi, and I don't know, man. I don't know,
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: that fell off track for him. And then everything he's
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: shown since then, it's just been about him. So I
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: don't know. I don't have the faith that he'll be
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: that guy, but we'll see.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: You got that two years, 115. So he might just be,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: you know, let me get this bag real quick these
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: next couple of years and let me get on up
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: out of here.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: It's hard not to think that there's a good chance
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: that Kawhi feels that way. But, you know, when you
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: make these– you're right. You're right. You're right. Because a
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: lot of times when people make these types of conversations,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: they always are, like, doing the if everything goes well.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: But sometimes you just have to factor in– like, when
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: we're talking about the Kawhis or the Embiids of the world,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: we have to factor in the fact, like, it's a
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: 50-50 chance at best that they play in the playoffs.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: I don't know how they play, but just that they
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: even play.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Most important ability. All right, man, we're going
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: to get up out of here, man.
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Thank you, man.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Hit that like, hit that subscribe. Love having you on.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: That seat is always available whenever you're ready. But yeah, man,
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: love having you on. You don't really promote yourself or
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: anything like that. It's crazy that you don't even have
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: your own shit, but that makes me lucky enough to
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: be able to have you on.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: Yeah, no, listen, and I've said this to a few
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: folks before. I have a lot going on outside with
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: work and everything else. For me, the Knicks is the
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: one thing I wouldn't want to corrupt. My fandom is
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: not something that I want to become a responsibility. If
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: someone is traded, I want to enjoy it as a fan.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: I don't want to feel obligated to come running. to
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: social media. It's not to knock anyone that does it.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: I love all of them because they give me the
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: content that I want as a fan. For me, the
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: Knicks are where I go to get away from the world.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: It would be tough to make it a responsibility. That
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: being said, I have some opportunities. I am trying to
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: do a couple of things just for the love of
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: the team and the sport. But we'll see how those
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: things play out. But thank you for having me on, man.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: And listen, when are you coming to New York, man?
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: Let's catch a game in New York, man. Come to
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: the Garden.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: Yo, man.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: I re-upped my package, man. I have my seats, man.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Let's figure something out.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Okay. Well, listen, listen. It's on wax now.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: So I'm definitely holding you to that next time I
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: get out there because we already know. Are you going
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: to open tonight?
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: Look at you, man. Good for you.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I saw you saying something about raffling off that extra ticket.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Are you still thinking about doing that?
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: You know what's funny, man? I had some people that
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: were like, I will stab you. Yo, I'm saying.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: There's got to be people in your life who are like,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: you better not take no random motherfucking of this shit. Right, right, right, right.
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Like for me, right, when the Knicks sucked and I
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: was a seed, and it was some people, and it
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: was work related. But I would say, okay, I'm going
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: to take a client to the Knicks game, right? And
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: we can talk hoop and we can talk business and
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: maybe we can find a little common ground and get
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: a deal done. And we could, you know, just business stuff.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: And I had one or two people cancel on me
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: last minute. And the Knicks weren't that good at the time, obviously. Right.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: But the money still was the money to me. And
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: I'm a diehard. You cancel on me last minute. It
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: pissed me off. And I forgot when it happened. But
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: at a point, I would go to the games with
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: different people that I met from social media. And it
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: kind of became a thing because they diehards like I'm diehards.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: And it's important to them as is important to me.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: And they're super thankful that they're actually at the Garden.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: So it was so much good energy that came back.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: to me that I enjoyed that, you know, having that,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: that opportunity with another diehard that, that became a thing
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: for me. I really enjoyed doing that. So this year,
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: you know, I got a new job and there's definitely
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: some pressures to, uh, to bring some clients to games
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: or whatever, but I'm telling you, come on out to
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: New York, man. We'll pick a game on the, I'll
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: share my schedule with you. I'll show you the seats
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: that I have and let me know what works for you, man.
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: You come out, we go to the game, man. Enjoy ourselves.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: I got, listen, I, I, I jumped out. I ran
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: out there for the, uh, for, for the parade. That was,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: that was obviously like a last second I had to
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: put together. I was just there a couple weeks ago.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: My grandfather, Southern Queens Park Association, out in Queens, it's
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: like 54 acres of land that is a community center.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: He founded that 50 years ago. So I was out
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: there for the 50-year gala with that. Yeah, man. And
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: so I had to be out there and represent for
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: the fam. And so I was out there just here recently.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: I actually, because my kids, my son said to me,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: he was like, yo, are you going to try and
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: go back for the game one when they bring up
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: the banner? Yeah. And I jokingly said it for him
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: and my wife. I was like, yo, I mean, I
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: don't know. Like, you know, tickets are like $ 1, 200 just
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: to be all up in the $ 400s. Like, it's crazy.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: But if I can make it back for that. And
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: my wife looked at me like I was fucking crazy.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: She was like, yo. She's like, you just went back
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: for this. You bought every piece of Nick's gear possible
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: since they won a championship. And now we talk about
