- 0:00Friends, Romans, lend us your ears.
- 0:05It has been way too long
- 0:06since you sat down on a Tuesday night
- 0:08and had a drink with your good friends.
- 0:09It's time for The Regulars.
- 0:11I'm Cody Decker.
- 0:12I'm Tanya Rae Fox,
- 0:13and I'm the reason that it's been so long.
- 0:16Oh, and we will.
- 0:17Since you've seen your friends.
- 0:17Oh, we will get into it
- 0:19because I cannot wait to hear about High School Reunion.
- 0:21I can't wait to hear about your life as a Disney adult.
- 0:24And I can't wait to just hear
- 0:26about your overall traveling escapades.
- 0:28Yeah, there's a lot going on.
- 0:29And also, I can't wait to find out
- 0:31why we can't do the show next Monday as well,
- 0:34because you're traveling again.
- 0:36So we will only be doing the show this week on Tuesday,
- 0:39Thursday, and then next week we're back on Friday.
- 0:42Yeah, right.
- 0:43And I mean, listen, it's not my fault that I'm popular.
- 0:47Right?
- 0:49It helps us all.
- 0:50You're getting popular.
- 0:51Hey, we're all doing some stuff.
- 0:53Yeah, we're doing things.
- 0:54The Regulars are doing things,
- 0:56and that's a good thing.
- 0:57But we're going to stay the regular.
- 0:58I don't know, summertime, things popping up, but-
- 1:00I can't wait to find out what this is.
- 1:02I really can't wait to find out what this is.
- 1:03I mean, I guess I don't want to make it seem
- 1:07like it's that crazy.
- 1:09I'm assuming you're going to,
- 1:10are you going to an awards ceremony?
- 1:13No.
- 1:13Are you going to a sports event?
- 1:17No.
- 1:18Are you going to, where the fuck are you going?
- 1:22There is going to be an awards type thing there,
- 1:26but not for me.
- 1:29But there will be that happening.
- 1:31Holy shit.
- 1:32I can't wait to find out.
- 1:33That's a tease, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:34Ladies and gentlemen, we will find out
- 1:35what exactly is taking place.
- 1:37But listen, it's been a wild couple of weeks.
- 1:39Obviously, we've got a lot to catch up on.
- 1:41We have a new segment today,
- 1:42which we're calling Catch-Up Quarter,
- 1:44where we actually are going to catch up
- 1:45on all the things that are taking place.
- 1:46And a lot going on with me, a lot going on with you.
- 1:49So why waste any more time?
- 1:52Let's just get right into it.
- 1:53And let's get to tonight's first headline, Tanya Ray.
- 1:57Take it away.
- 1:58The New York Knicks just played
- 2:01the most dominant 10-game stretch in NBA history.
- 2:05They are in the finals for the first time since 1999.
- 2:10And New York is ecstatic.
- 2:13Yes.
- 2:14No one predicted this in the lead-up to the post,
- 2:18to the post-season, in our leading up conversations.
- 2:21We knew that the Knicks were probably
- 2:23the best shot outside the Celtics.
- 2:26And once the Celtics went down-
- 2:27But once the Celtics went down,
- 2:28because we all thought Celtics.
- 2:31We thought a healthy-ish Celtics
- 2:33after the season that they just had.
- 2:35I thought it was, honestly, I thought it was a layup,
- 2:38considering the fact that I thought the Eastern Conference,
- 2:40let's be real clear, the Eastern Conference
- 2:42is a couple of steps below the Western Conference
- 2:45as of right now.
- 2:46So it's funny because the parody
- 2:48in the Eastern Conference is more
- 2:50because you don't have the teams like the Thunder
- 2:53and the Spurs and whatever.
- 2:55And they held their own, actually,
- 2:56against the West in head-to-head games as conferences.
- 2:58Yes, they did.
- 3:00So that was helpful, I think, in the playoff.
- 3:02Obviously, the thing is, the Knicks are hitting this,
- 3:08they're doing the exact thing we said that they had to do,
- 3:10which is take advantage of the fact
- 3:12that you have this team that is put together right now
- 3:16that works really well together
- 3:18and go on a heater against these somewhat subpar
- 3:22Eastern Conference teams.
- 3:23Not saying they're not playoff-worthy or caliber,
- 3:26but let's be real,
- 3:27there's a little bit of an easier path here.
- 3:29We've seen it and it happens.
- 3:31Let's be real, the Hawks are not the Lakers.
- 3:33No.
- 3:34The Philadelphia 76ers are not the Denver Nuggets.
- 3:38No, and it's so funny because when the Knicks were up,
- 3:42when the Knicks were playing the Sixers,
- 3:44I put out and then I was rooting for the Sixers, whatever,
- 3:46because I'm anti, I'm not gonna root for New York, right?
- 3:50I'm gonna root for the Sixers.
- 3:51I understand you're a Boston girl.
- 3:52I'll root for the Sixers and whatever.
- 3:54And then they got their asses absolutely handed to them.
- 3:56And then in this series,
- 3:57I wasn't really rooting for anybody
- 3:59because there's no way you can get me
- 4:01to root for a James Harden playoff team.
- 4:03It's not happening.
- 4:04Well, don't worry.
- 4:05Don't worry.
- 4:06He did everything he could to keep you from doing it.
- 4:08Right, but I love Cat.
- 4:10You and I both love Cat.
- 4:11I'm a huge fan of Cat.
- 4:12So I was like, I found myself rooting for Cat.
- 4:15How do you not?
- 4:16And I have, of course, so many friends from New York.
- 4:19I have way more friends from New York and Philly
- 4:21and these places than I do from Cleveland.
- 4:22Dude, I lived right up the block
- 4:23from Madison Square Garden.
- 4:25And I'm not kidding.
- 4:25When I say up the block,
- 4:26I mean, Madison Square Garden is on, what, 34th and 8th.
- 4:31I lived on 50th and 8th.
- 4:32It was a very quick 10-minute walk for me
- 4:35to go to Madison Square Garden.
- 4:36Yes, and so you start to,
- 4:38and then I start feeling myself kind of rooted for,
- 4:41and I'm like, is this happening?
- 4:42And I've been trying to track
- 4:44how people are handling the Knicks being in the finals,
- 4:47right, because it's the first time in 27 years.
- 4:48They haven't won a title since 1973, I believe.
- 4:51This is a long-suffering fan base.
- 4:54Yes, they haven't won a title since 1973
- 4:56and they've only been to two finals since then.
- 4:58Right, and no, was that the last title they won?
- 5:01And then, okay, they've only been-
- 5:02Only been to two since.
- 5:03It is, it's a long-suffering fan base
- 5:05despite the fact that they're in New York and hated.
- 5:08And for me, I'm having this weird experience
- 5:11of trying to track how people are reacting to it
- 5:13because I thought more people would be pro-Knicks,
- 5:18especially if they play the Thunder,
- 5:20but we don't know who they're gonna play yet.
- 5:22And I think people are a little bit hesitant
- 5:24to get on the Knicks bandwagon
- 5:26before we know who they're playing.
- 5:28And we're gonna get into that in our second topic,
- 5:30so I don't wanna get too far into Knicks.
- 5:31Of course.
- 5:32Into Thunder Spurs, but I do think that it's,
- 5:36I hate to say this, I really, really do.
- 5:39I'm having a hard time not rooting for the Knicks.
- 5:43Because they're fucking fun.
- 5:46They are, I love Brunson, he's fantastic.
- 5:49Yeah, and Brunson's probably my fifth favorite person
- 5:53to watch on that team right now.
- 5:54Josh Hart, you know what I think of Kat.
- 5:56Josh Hart's basketball IQ is insane.
- 5:58Some of the stuff he does is nuts.
- 5:59The fact that Brunson Hart and Mikael Bridges
- 6:01have all been together since their Nova days.
- 6:03This is, I don't know.
- 6:04I don't know how you can watch this team
- 6:05and not kind of be like, aw.
- 6:07It's not about the team.
- 6:08I'll tell you why I'm not rooting for the Knicks.
- 6:10Have you met Knicks fans?
- 6:13There you go.
- 6:13That is exactly why I'm not rooting for the team.
- 6:15I know, but that's what people say about Celtics fans.
- 6:16So it's not like I come from a-
- 6:17No, no, no, no.
- 6:18The difference between Celtics fans.
- 6:19Now keep in mind, I'm not sitting here
- 6:20pretending I love you guys either.
- 6:22No, I know.
- 6:23I do not.
- 6:24But you guys have a lot of championships
- 6:25to have your kind of guff and your attitude
- 6:27about how you do things.
- 6:28Oh, I see what you're saying, yeah.
- 6:29The balls on Knicks fans.
- 6:30The balls, the utter gall on Knicks fans.
- 6:33To walk around talking about how you guys
- 6:36know more ball than everybody else, yada, yada, yada.
- 6:38We're Knicks fans.
- 6:39We play in the street.
- 6:41I watched White Mamba absolutely dominate
- 6:44your best street ball guy like he was a child
- 6:47like three months ago.
- 6:48I can't stress this enough.
- 6:50I cannot stand Knicks fans.
- 6:52I cannot stress enough how much they drive me nuts
- 6:54considering the fact they think they're the Yankees somehow.
- 6:56You mentioned 1973?
- 6:58Yeah.
- 6:59That's a long fucking time ago.
- 7:00That's all I'm saying.
- 7:01That was two me's ago.
- 7:03Yeah, well that's-
- 7:04I'm old.
- 7:05So there are two types of Knicks fans
- 7:08and there are those ones who,
- 7:09as soon as they start winning,
- 7:11there's like that weird entitlement.
- 7:12But it comes from, I've seen this before.
- 7:14I've seen this in different fan bases.
- 7:16They are taking the Yankees
- 7:19and like the winning part of their legacy-
- 7:22And applying it to their basketball team?
- 7:23Yes, yeah, that's what they do.
- 7:26Which is really funny considering the Yankees
- 7:27haven't exactly been on a fucking heater
- 7:29in the 21st century either.
- 7:31Well, they got one title.
- 7:32Right.
- 7:33And I will also say this,
- 7:34baseball has a very specific,
- 7:36different type of parody to it now.
- 7:38Because at the time, the Yankees, the Bronx Bombers,
- 7:41they had a purse that the rest didn't have.
- 7:44They had a purse that everyone claims
- 7:45the Dodgers only have now.
- 7:47Now everybody's got the Yankees money.
- 7:49So now it's also about developmental
- 7:51and that's where things have kind of changed
- 7:53for the Yankees.
- 7:54There is, I mean, they're just always gonna be
- 7:56a little bit elitist, but it is,
- 7:58the thing that's more annoying is that
- 8:00if you talk to a Knicks fan outside of when
- 8:03they have a little bit of hope,
- 8:04they're so downtrodden.
- 8:06You'd think that they were Cleveland Browns fans.
- 8:08And so like, there's a juxtaposition of like,
- 8:11you can't be cocky now after you've been whining
- 8:13for the last three years.
- 8:14You guys wanted Mike Brown fired two months ago.
- 8:18I am exhausted.
- 8:19I know.
- 8:20I'm exhausted when you're topsy-turvy.
- 8:22You guys wanted to kill Kat, literally three weeks ago.
- 8:25That's New York sports.
- 8:26It's no different.
- 8:27I can't talk shit.
- 8:28You all owe Kat an apology.
- 8:29I cannot talk shit because Boston is just like this.
- 8:31I agree.
- 8:32They're just like this.
- 8:33Well, listen, we're pretty terrible out in LA
- 8:36about our Lakers too, but you know what?
- 8:38I gotta say, we have our issues.
- 8:41Trust me, Laker fans can be very elitist.
- 8:44Trust me, I'm one of them.
- 8:45We are elitist and we are annoying.
- 8:46Lakers fans, and Lakers fans are elitist about shit
- 8:49that's like, doesn't even make any sense.
- 8:51I agree.
- 8:52We have our things.
- 8:53We definitely have our issues like everyone else does.
- 8:56But at least Lakers fans have witnessed a shit ton
- 8:57of rings in your lifetime as Maloney.
- 8:59And also, I gotta say this.
- 9:00We really do legitimately like our team.
- 9:04Like this year, this team finished what?
- 9:06Fourth in the Western Conference?
- 9:09Yeah.
- 9:10I don't, since Kobe's last championship run,
- 9:12I have not enjoyed a Lakers season
- 9:14as much as I love this season.
- 9:15Yeah, but I will say a lot of Lakers fans also
- 9:17were just like so shitty about LeBron all season.
- 9:20Oh, they're always shitty about LeBron.
- 9:21Yeah.
- 9:22And like, it's like, all right, well,
- 9:23that was the only reason you guys made
- 9:24the fucking second round.
- 9:24So it is what it is.
- 9:25LeBron was amazing this year.
- 9:27At the end of the day, I think it's really hard
- 9:29to root against this Knicks team.
- 9:31The only way I'm, now, this is like,
- 9:34so I do wanna make it clear.
- 9:36Their run right now is actually insane.
- 9:38Not only are they, is this like the most dominant
- 9:4110 game stretch, I mean, they charted it out
- 9:43and I wish I didn't put it in the show,
- 9:46but they charted it out every single one and it's insane.
- 9:50Not only is there that, and like, listen,
- 9:52these teams have not been strong
- 9:53they've been playing against, but like,
- 9:54this is still nuts.
- 9:56That's not like a normal thing to be able to do.
- 9:58But on top of that, they are the eighth team
- 10:02in NBA history to outscore their opponents
- 10:04by more than 175 points
- 10:06through the first 14 games of the postseason.
- 10:09Now, here's the thing.
- 10:10Each of the previous seven teams that did that
- 10:12went on to win the championship.
- 10:15Of course, these correlations
- 10:18aren't always necessarily there,
- 10:19but every team who's ever outscored their opponents
- 10:21all the way to the NBA finals prior to this
- 10:23has won the championship.
- 10:25This is, that is generally because you're on a heater
- 10:29and there's a team chemistry, there's vibes,
- 10:32there's whatever.
- 10:33There's no arguing that if you're going to talk
- 10:35about the three teams still left in contention, right?
- 10:38So the Knicks are going to come out of the East
- 10:39and the two teams in the West,
- 10:40but the Knicks are the weakest team
- 10:43in terms of like odds to win the finals.
- 10:45I think that is an unquestionable thing.
- 10:47Even the most diehard Knicks fans,
- 10:50although then again, I got into a weird argument
- 10:52with them the other day about it, legitimately.
- 10:55I actually left the bar
- 10:56because I didn't want to deal with this person anymore.
- 10:59Actually, it was at O'Brien's.
- 11:00I'd be like, close me out.
- 11:01I'm not dealing with this child.
- 11:03But it was simply this, you're right about this issue.
- 11:07Like I was watching ESPN SportsCenter this morning,
- 11:09like literally 4 a.m. while I was driving into the show.
- 11:12And there was an interesting point made
- 11:14by one of the analysts.
- 11:15And I really thought your point was very good
- 11:17with the exception of one thing
- 11:19that I feel like she didn't add.
- 11:21And she was like, it's not about the what,
- 11:22just about the what, it's also been about the how.
- 11:25And she's talking about not just that this team
- 11:27has been winning, but how they've been winning
- 11:29and how dominant they are.
- 11:30She left something out
- 11:31that I thought was extremely important though.
- 11:33It's also the who.
- 11:34And the who is the thing
- 11:35that's really concerning me for the Knicks.
- 11:37The fact that the Knicks just swept the series
- 11:39and now have an eight day day off
- 11:42before they take on two teams
- 11:43that will be primed and ready to continue rolling.
- 11:47Like both of these teams that are gonna be coming in
- 11:50are going to be ready to take them on.
- 11:52And here's the thing,
- 11:53and I actually asked this about Derek Fisher
- 11:55because I said to him after game three,
- 11:57one thing and then after game four,
- 11:58we both looked at each other and said something
- 12:00and I was actually surprised we had this take.
- 12:02I initially said, if I'm a Knicks fan,
- 12:05I'm rooting for the Spurs.
- 12:06I'm rooting for the Spurs
- 12:07because the Oklahoma City Thunder
- 12:09will dismantle the Knicks, dismantle them, I thought.
- 12:13The only issue with the Spurs is that's Wembley
- 12:17and that's a problem.
- 12:19That being said, seeing what Wembley's been doing
- 12:23to the OKC, I am not certain
- 12:25they want to run into the Spurs.
- 12:27I don't think they want the smoke
- 12:29from either of these goddamn teams.
- 12:31Well, so the cool thing about the Knicks
- 12:33before we move on to the West
- 12:35is that they do want the smoke.
- 12:38That's the thing about the Knicks
- 12:39is they truly don't give a fuck.
- 12:40Oh, they don't, I love them.
- 12:41I think they're great.
- 12:42They can get swept, right?
- 12:43Like, I don't know, right?
- 12:44But they have such an air of like,
- 12:48we're out here and ready to ball.
- 12:50Part of that is a Mike Brown thing.
- 12:52He's got them passing the ball a lot.
- 12:54I thought they had that kind of last year, though, too.
- 12:56Mike Brown's got them moving the ball around a lot.
- 12:58They're passing it so much more,
- 12:59which gives them so much more freedom
- 13:01and like lightness to the way that they're playing.
- 13:04And it also gives them the opportunity
- 13:07to build on the chemistry that pre-exists
- 13:09with so many of their players.
- 13:10And so they're a very don't give a fuck team.
- 13:13And I guess, you know, listen,
- 13:16going up against one of those teams
- 13:17is going to take a matchup.
- 13:18It's going to take a lot of drawing some things up.
- 13:20It's going to take adjustments.
- 13:20It's going to take, it's going to test Mike Brown.
- 13:24But like, you know, and the rest, sure.
- 13:28The rest is definitely, that's a long time to wait.
- 13:31It's always a little bit of,
- 13:31I don't like the length in between the final,
- 13:35the Eastern Conference Finals or the Western Conference.
- 13:37By the way, I did ask Derek about this, Derek Fisher.
- 13:41And he was, I was very clear.
- 13:42I'm like, really, honestly, is this a thing?
- 13:44And he just be like, dude, it's actually a thing.
- 13:46It's the rust will be very real to them.
- 13:48And he used, and he cited this very wisely,
- 13:51game one of the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 13:53What the Knicks were in that first half of that game
- 13:55was a very massive juxtaposition
- 13:57of what they did in the second half.
- 13:59Which, okay, maybe they do start out,
- 14:01maybe they go down 0-2.
- 14:03This team is so capable of winning four games in a row.
- 14:06I agree, I agree with that.
- 14:07So it's like, so it's interesting.
- 14:09But here's the thing.
- 14:11So I'm just going to get it out
- 14:12before we go to the next topic.
- 14:14If it's the Thunder, if they are facing the Thunder,
- 14:18I'm putting on record, I'm rooting for the goddamn Knicks.
- 14:21I'm not.
- 14:22And I hate the Thunder.
- 14:23If it's the Spurs, if it's the Spurs, it's-
- 14:25I don't want to listen to New York Knicks fans
- 14:27all off season.
- 14:28I really don't.
- 14:29Yeah, I don't mind that.
- 14:31Again, like, I know that your Lakers system
- 14:36isn't built for this, but like-
- 14:37I'd rather listen to Boston fans
- 14:39celebrate all season long.
- 14:41I'd rather watch that.
- 14:43I would have rather you guys had another pet parade
- 14:45in Boston.
- 14:46You've already seen it so much.
- 14:47I have, I'm used to it.
- 14:48It's fine, I don't care.
- 14:49You're like, ah, it's old hat.
- 14:51It kind of makes me go like,
- 14:52well, now it's our turn type of thing.
- 14:55No, I don't, I don't.
- 14:56Knicks fans, also the audacity.
- 14:58And I'm actually going to not throw my friend,
- 15:01Rick, Craig Carton under the bus,
- 15:03but I'm going to cite Craig Carton.
- 15:04There's something Craig Carton always brings up
- 15:06and it's about Philly fans.
- 15:07He's like all those-
- 15:08Is he a Knicks fan?
- 15:09He's a big Knicks fan.
- 15:10He's like all those animals in Philly,
- 15:11you know, they get a celebration
- 15:12and they act like they're doing all these things.
- 15:14They had their climbing poles, embarrassing themselves.
- 15:17Craig, I watched, I saw the video
- 15:21of outside Madison Square Garden.
- 15:22There's a lot of pole climbing going on
- 15:24around Madison Square Garden.
- 15:25There's always pole climbing in these Northeastern-
- 15:27I know, but you can't get mad at Philly
- 15:29when you guys are just as culpable.
- 15:31I'm not saying it's a bad thing or a good thing.
- 15:32I'm just saying you do the exact same thing.
- 15:34Everybody in New York is like bragging about how like,
- 15:37Manhattan's going to be insane,
- 15:38New York's going to be insane,
- 15:39the city's going to be insane.
- 15:40And they are right.
- 15:41They would be nuts.
- 15:42They are right, but you can't brag about it
- 15:43and then be like, oh, but the animals in Philly.
- 15:45And to be fair, I mean, to Craig's credit,
- 15:49nobody fucks up a city like Philly.
- 15:50Like, they are weird.
- 15:51They are weird.
- 15:52Like, they get weird.
- 15:53He's not wrong.
- 15:55They party hard.
- 15:56And to be fair, Knick fans haven't had a chance to party.
- 16:00And I will say this, and I do agree with Craig
- 16:02and a lot of people when they say this,
- 16:05if the Knicks were to win the finals,
- 16:07the parade for that will be the most packed
- 16:10New York City has ever been.
- 16:11That is the quintessential Boston team.
- 16:15Yeah, it's the last one.
- 16:16But it's the quintessential New York team, sorry.
- 16:20It's like, that's their sort of like, you know,
- 16:24the Rangers and the Yankees and whoever else.
- 16:27Like, right now, the Knicks in the zeitgeist
- 16:31and sort of like how long they've been waiting,
- 16:32that's the team that they want.
- 16:33Yeah, and trust me, living in New York,
- 16:36the years I did, if you put a championship in that city,
- 16:39and that's the thing.
- 16:40Like, New York Yankees, when they win a championship,
- 16:42yeah, it's awesome, but it is up in the Bronx.
- 16:44A championship in the dead, smack dab middle of Manhattan.
- 16:48Dude, that place is going to be chaotic for like a month.
- 16:52I mean, it's already chaotic.
- 16:54Mocha just got back from there.
- 16:55Mocha, can you imagine if the Knicks win the championship?
- 16:59I'm going back.
- 17:00He's going to be a Knicks fan.
- 17:01He's switching teams.
- 17:03We had a good run with Mocha.
- 17:06It's fine, if we lose him to New York,
- 17:07I'll follow you out there.
- 17:08It's a great place to be lost.
- 17:09I love me some New York, it really is great.
- 17:11So that's it for headline number one,
- 17:13but headline number two is relatively adjacent.
- 17:15Yeah, I want to talk.
- 17:16I just do want to talk about the West a little bit
- 17:18because there's a couple of things going on.
- 17:21There's two specific things I wanted to ask you
- 17:23and talk to you about.
- 17:25The first is we have noticed,
- 17:27and everybody has noticed increasingly,
- 17:29that Shea Gilders-Alexander is falling a lot.
- 17:34Like, to the point where there are super cuts,
- 17:36massive, like crazy edits, right?
- 17:39And we know about this.
- 17:40We know about the flopping.
- 17:41This is not new.
- 17:42Everybody's complaining about it.
- 17:43But as it's gone on through the playoffs,
- 17:45it has aggravated people more and more.
- 17:48Last year, it seemed like it was like a regular
- 17:50sort of situation that we were whining about.
- 17:52It has gotten to the point where people are genuinely
- 17:54not enjoying watching the games.
- 17:55Like everybody's, it's just under people's skin.
- 17:58The numbers are there.
- 18:00He's falling a lot more in the series against the Spurs.
- 18:03Likely because they were playing more physical.
- 18:05Likely because you have the Wemby factor.
- 18:06There's a lot of reasons.
- 18:07This is clearly strategic.
- 18:08Yes, but I can't stress this enough.
- 18:12I have seen every super cut.
- 18:13Okay.
- 18:15Some of it looks really bad.
- 18:17Really bad?
- 18:18Like really.
- 18:19There are literal shots where SGA specifically
- 18:24folds up like a chair.
- 18:26Like he just folds up in like a suitcase on the ground
- 18:29as if he was shot 17 times.
- 18:32I've never.
- 18:34It's something.
- 18:35Cody, I've never seen anything like it.
- 18:36It's something.
- 18:37And I'm not, you know I'm not like that.
- 18:39I'm not hyperbolic when it comes to like anything
- 18:43an athlete is doing because realistically
- 18:45I don't put these guys on a pedestal
- 18:47as players to begin with.
- 18:48Me neither.
- 18:49I've never seen anything like what SGA does.
- 18:52And I know Thunder fans get so in their feelings about it.
- 18:56And the fact of the matter is I'm, you can,
- 18:58I'm not telling you not to fucking reform it.
- 19:00And I'm not telling you he's not a great basketball player.
- 19:02I've just never seen anything like that.
- 19:04Yeah, and by the way, Thunder fans get off your high horse
- 19:07and try to defend it.
- 19:08It's okay that he does it.
- 19:09It sucks.
- 19:10I don't like that he does it just like I'm a Luka fan.
- 19:13Lakers go Luka.
- 19:15Man, that man complains a lot.
- 19:16I'd like him to complain a lot less.
- 19:18Like, and the fact of the matter is
- 19:21Shay is going to hurt himself.
- 19:22The, the, like he lets his feet get out
- 19:24from underneath him on purpose to fall.
- 19:26Like in a way I've, it's like, dude
- 19:29you are good enough at basketball.
- 19:30I don't understand what this is.
- 19:31It's very frustrating to watch.
- 19:32And it's been increasing during this
- 19:35to the point where you can see the frustration
- 19:36with the Spurs players and whatever else.
- 19:38And I think it's, so I think it's a fascinating
- 19:42juxtaposition because the, the Thunder have been built
- 19:46incredibly well for a long time now.
- 19:49Like they are one of the best run franchises in pro sports.
- 19:54And they're not going anywhere
- 19:55because they have more draft picks coming.
- 19:57Right. Like, I mean, this is the same.
- 19:58They, I mean, they brought in, you know
- 20:00they got Katie when they were in Seattle
- 20:02but then they brought in Russell Westbrook
- 20:04James Harden, those three MVPs that this GM
- 20:06like just had under his belt.
- 20:08And then the fourth with, with SGA.
- 20:11And now they've got, this is an incredibly
- 20:12well-run franchise.
- 20:13And I think it's really fascinating to look
- 20:14at them compared to the Spurs who, you know, there's this
- 20:18this clip that I, I watched of Wemby where they ask him
- 20:23if he's tired and like, if he feels like, you know
- 20:28kind of overwhelmed by the, you know
- 20:32like the pressure of the history in, in the Spurs
- 20:35organization with, you know, pop and whatever.
- 20:38And he said, I, it makes me feel safe
- 20:41that like he feels very like supported
- 20:44and protected by that organization.
- 20:47And I have to be honest.
- 20:50And I, and this is kind of what I want to ask you is like
- 20:53you know, so pop was in there
- 20:55after game three, giving them the speech
- 20:57and apparently ripped into according to, according to Fox
- 21:00he was adamant.
- 21:01Like pop came in there was like, Oh, we're in trouble.
- 21:04Pop comes in and they just, and like the
- 21:07the adjustments for a game for insane
- 21:09which by the way, pop also did to Wemby
- 21:12in his car after the ejection, a couple of weeks
- 21:15he pulled up in front of them
- 21:16and gave him a talking to him public.
- 21:18It was like
- 21:20and then there's also the shots of pop and Tim Duncan up
- 21:24in the, in the box and they're together talking.
- 21:27And they're obviously Tim Duncan and David Robinson.
- 21:31And there's this paternal sort of the grandfather
- 21:35and the father and the like
- 21:36there's this structure around the Spurs
- 21:39that's Greg Popovich built from the ground up.
- 21:41Every player that's come through the Spurs organization
- 21:44since he was hired in 1996 until now.
- 21:46And the entire organization itself is built
- 21:49around the ethos and the morality
- 21:52and the like basketball ethic of Greg Popovich.
- 21:56And I have to, and watching Wemby function
- 21:59the way that he is in this system.
- 22:01I want to know if you feel like there is any
- 22:06modern sports culture more effective
- 22:10and more goaded at this point than Greg Popovich Spurs.
- 22:13Nope. I mean this from the bottom of my heart
- 22:15and I've talked to other NBA guys about it.
- 22:18Obviously, you know, my history
- 22:19with Michelle Beatle and what she talks about.
- 22:21She's his spouses for years, like just for years
- 22:23talk about this culture that is here.
- 22:24And it's based all around with pop and how he's done.
- 22:27And the safety that Wemby brings up is,
- 22:30I don't know what else to say.
- 22:32This is like the most real thing that exists in sports.
- 22:35I think Steve Kerr has done a decent job of, you know
- 22:38kind of manifesting a similar thing.
- 22:40Although a lot of infighting that takes place.
- 22:42So then probably a lot of that has to do
- 22:44with Draymond Green and probably, but at the end
- 22:46of the day, like, yeah, the Spurs are different.
- 22:49You know, we see these Knicks games right now.
- 22:50It's cool seeing some Knicks legends show up at the games
- 22:53but they're not there on a random Tuesday.
- 22:55You know, they're there for the playoffs.
- 22:57They're there for the runs.
- 22:58Every one of these Nick legends are, I mean
- 23:00that Spurs legends are like random Tuesday games.
- 23:03They live there.
- 23:04They are a part of this family.
- 23:05And they're not going to leave pop, right?
- 23:06So they're all there for pop.
- 23:08Tim Duncan's been helping him rehab post-stroke.
- 23:11That's like, they're like father and son.
- 23:12It's unbelievable.
- 23:13I've never seen anything like it.
- 23:14I've never seen anything like it either.
- 23:15And I feel like we don't talk about like
- 23:17that's what I'm saying.
- 23:18I think he is, I think this might be the greatest culture
- 23:21ever built by one man in any team sport.
- 23:23Yeah, like you hear heat culture.
- 23:25And I've been told that heat culture
- 23:26is a very real thing too.
- 23:27That's what Pat Riley's built.
- 23:29Pat and Spoh.
- 23:30But apparently-
- 23:31That's two people though
- 23:32because it doesn't work without Spoh.
- 23:33You're right.
- 23:34This is all pop.
- 23:35You're right.
- 23:36It's all pop.
- 23:36But like, listen, I don't, I won't say
- 23:38that I know all the inner workings of Pat Riley
- 23:40but there's also whether,
- 23:42and this is not about your politics
- 23:43but there is a, use the word morality.
- 23:46There is a morality to Greg Popovich
- 23:48that I don't think exists elsewhere.
- 23:51Right.
- 23:52And there is a wisdom to Greg Popovich
- 23:53that I don't think exists elsewhere.
- 23:55And there's just, it's like
- 23:57there has never been a better team suited
- 24:00for a leadership culture
- 24:03that has been set forth by Greg Popovich.
- 24:05Yeah.
- 24:06And seeing how the coaching staff now
- 24:08works underneath that, you know, overarching
- 24:11which others would probably see as a shadow.
- 24:13Yeah.
- 24:14But it's not, it's like a warm blanket to these guys.
- 24:18And I, it almost brings tears to my eyes
- 24:21that my Raider, my late, my, sorry,
- 24:23my Lakers culture isn't exactly like
- 24:25I love what the Lakers culture is, but it's not this.
- 24:28And this is like, it's, it's special.
- 24:30It's a legitimately special thing.
- 24:32And I want to root against the Spurs
- 24:35because I am a Laker fan.
- 24:36I find it impossible to do so.
- 24:38Like you were mentioning about the Knicks.
- 24:40That's how I'm feeling about the Spurs right now.
- 24:41Yeah. And I wouldn't be able to root against the Spurs.
- 24:42That's why the only way I can root for the Knicks
- 24:44is if they're against the Thunder
- 24:45because the Spurs really do have such a,
- 24:47it, I, everything you said is perfect.
- 24:50That's exactly what it is,
- 24:51to have a professional sports culture,
- 24:54especially men's sports,
- 24:56where there's so much open love, right?
- 25:01And care and like affection.
- 25:05Like even that phrase that he used,
- 25:06it makes me feel safe.
- 25:07That is not a word you hear from a pro athlete,
- 25:10especially a superstar pro athlete.
- 25:13Like that just said,
- 25:14like that word used in a press conference,
- 25:17like Dana White must be furious
- 25:20that someone had the gall to mention safety in the workplace.
- 25:24He should be a man and not say anything
- 25:26and go be depressed on his own.
- 25:28And that's the thing is,
- 25:29Wemby is, he says, I'm not afraid to show my emotions.
- 25:32I'm not afraid to be vulnerable.
- 25:33And I think, you know, he brought,
- 25:35it's like, how was this man drafted
- 25:38to the perfect fucking team for him?
- 25:40I don't understand.
- 25:41Because they tanked for him.
- 25:41Like, oh, I know, but like the timing of it
- 25:45was so perfect. It really was perfect.
- 25:47And for him to land there is so perfect.
- 25:49It's just a really beautiful thing.
- 25:52And while Pop is still around
- 25:55and while he's still a part of the organization,
- 25:57I hate to not appreciate it while we're seeing it
- 26:02because, you know, Pop, obviously,
- 26:05he's not gonna be around forever,
- 26:07but the culture that he's instilled,
- 26:09obviously into the, like everything,
- 26:12everything from their head coaching
- 26:13and all of it is promoted from within.
- 26:15This is a, the Spurs are kind of like
- 26:19an interesting modern example
- 26:22of something we don't have anymore.
- 26:24Like he's like Vince Lombardi, right?
- 26:26Like the Spurs are the house that Pop built.
- 26:29And I think that that culture will stand
- 26:32for the test of time.
- 26:34See, that I'll disagree with.
- 26:36Why?
- 26:37I don't think it'll last forever.
- 26:38I think it'll last years.
- 26:41You know how the Green Bay Packers
- 26:43have had the same identity our entire lives?
- 26:44Absolutely.
- 26:45And it was like that before, right?
- 26:47Like it's been going on for 70 years.
- 26:48No, I hope this does last forever.
- 26:49And it's like, regardless of who,
- 26:52like we've had turnover after turnover.
- 26:54There's something about the Green Bay Packers
- 26:56that's the same.
- 26:57You are right.
- 26:58And it's very unique.
- 27:00You are right.
- 27:01And I think that that's what happens is like,
- 27:03it's maybe it's a little bit metaphysical.
- 27:06It might be a little bit metaphysical,
- 27:07a little bit universal,
- 27:08but there's something when there is this,
- 27:11because a big thing about Vince Lombardi
- 27:13and that era was that he was also wildly progressive
- 27:17for his time.
- 27:18Yes.
- 27:19One of the only.
- 27:20And it's like these people who have a little bit extra,
- 27:23bring a little bit of extra ethic and morality
- 27:26that it might last forever.
- 27:29Maybe, but this is why I don't think
- 27:31it's gonna last forever.
- 27:32And by the way, I'm sorry that I'm seeing the darkness
- 27:35in the future at some point.
- 27:37Well, you know.
- 27:37Because someday, of course, he will pass on.
- 27:39And I think that culture will continue
- 27:40to live on for years to come.
- 27:44Someday that team will be sold.
- 27:45Private equity will eventually probably own that team.
- 27:48Oh, that's the Packers difference.
- 27:49And that's when it eventually changes.
- 27:52The Packers will never be sold.
- 27:53That's the difference.
- 27:54Someday this team will be sold to a private equity firm.
- 27:57That's because that's what it is.
- 27:59Okay, as long as it's currently under its ownership.
- 28:02Yes.
- 28:03But at some point, they're gonna sell.
- 28:06Yeah, because I was gonna say,
- 28:07you know who else really gives me the same vibe
- 28:08is the Chicago Bears.
- 28:09Again, been owned by the same family.
- 28:11You know who else gives me that vibe right now?
- 28:12The San Diego Padres just sold to a couple
- 28:15in private equity.
- 28:16The Padres don't have that.
- 28:17They don't have that aura.
- 28:19They don't have that aura, but they have that family.
- 28:21Oh, no, no, no, I know.
- 28:22But like that idea that like the.
- 28:23No, no, no.
- 28:24I can't stress enough.
- 28:25The Spurs are one of one.
- 28:27I'm just talking about like that kind of family
- 28:29type of thing.
- 28:30Now that Mr. Sadler sadly passed
- 28:33and the family sold the team to a couple
- 28:35that maintain that they are gonna continue
- 28:37the same values that Peter Sadler set.
- 28:39I hope that's the case.
- 28:41I'm inclined to not believe it's the case,
- 28:44but I'm gonna remain hopeful.
- 28:46But I've just seen what happens
- 28:47when private equity gets involved.
- 28:49Well, either way, I'm loving that we're getting
- 28:52this era of Pop ushering in the new generation
- 28:55with Wembley.
- 28:55I couldn't agree more.
- 28:56I didn't know we were gonna get it.
- 28:57It seemed like we weren't gonna get it.
- 28:59It's been amazing.
- 28:59When Pop, you know, had his issues.
- 29:01And so.
- 29:02Can I say I'm enjoying this version even more
- 29:04than Pop coaching him.
- 29:05Like seeing Pop being like this
- 29:08Gandalf figure.
- 29:10He's literally Gandalf.
- 29:12I mean, that's such a good way to put it.
- 29:13Like he disappears and he shows up
- 29:15at the last minute at Minnesota.
- 29:17And then he's got, I mean,
- 29:18and Tim Duncan, like with the gray hair
- 29:21and the like, he looks so fucking cool.
- 29:24That whole team's cool as hell.
- 29:25And then David Robinson's still around, looking great.
- 29:28Like still has the best, most defined shoulders
- 29:31in the NBA, even now.
- 29:32I don't know how.
- 29:33The whole thing is iconic.
- 29:35So yeah, we, so there we, we know we want the Spurs.
- 29:38We want the Spurs.
- 29:39We want the Spurs to win it all.
- 29:40I definitely want the Spurs.
- 29:42We definitely don't want the fucking Thunder.
- 29:43I do not want the fucking Thunder.
- 29:44I can't watch the flopping anymore.
- 29:46The game's about to begin in a few minutes
- 29:48and I hope, I hope they start beating the shit out of them.
- 29:50You know what?
- 29:52Let's see.
- 29:53All right, let's get to number three.
- 29:56And Tanya, I had actually no idea this was going on.
- 29:58I'm really glad you actually spotted this.
- 29:59You know, I'm always on it.
- 30:00Thank you.
- 30:01Thank you.
- 30:02Thank you.
- 30:03I had no idea.
- 30:04I didn't even know the Supreme Court was involved
- 30:05with this.
- 30:06So please enlighten the people.
- 30:09Headline three.
- 30:10So the Supreme Court has rejected the NFL's bid
- 30:12to move the Brian Flores bias racism claims
- 30:17into arbitration.
- 30:18So just a quick CliffsNotes,
- 30:22Brian Flores, we know about the lawsuit he filed
- 30:24against the NFL along with Steve Wilkes,
- 30:27a couple other people for racial bias,
- 30:31discrimination after he was fired from the Dolphins.
- 30:34That has been going through the court system for a minute.
- 30:38Originally, it was argued by the court
- 30:41that it had to go through arbitration.
- 30:43Certain parts of the case
- 30:44had to go through NFL arbitration.
- 30:46The Second Circuit Court of Appeals said,
- 30:49no, this can't go through NFL arbitration.
- 30:51It's a conflict of interest.
- 30:53Essentially said the NFL's arbitration is illegal.
- 30:57Like, I mean, this shit is like not,
- 30:59like you can't, no one in their right mind would say
- 31:01that this was an unbiased,
- 31:03even if you tell us there's a third party.
- 31:05The NFL appeals that.
- 31:07So it's been going up
- 31:08and now they appeal it to the Supreme Court.
- 31:10And the Supreme Court has now denied the appeal.
- 31:18Essentially now it's a question of whether or not
- 31:21this is gonna go, how many appeals?
- 31:23I don't think that there's another appeal
- 31:24that can happen after this.
- 31:26I'm about to say it was higher than the Supreme Court.
- 31:28So they've said that it cannot go to arbitration,
- 31:31which means now that this goes to open court
- 31:35as long as there's no other shenanigans that happen.
- 31:38This is a huge win, obviously for Brian Flores.
- 31:42Massive win for Brian Flores for diversity in the NFL
- 31:45and for the claims.
- 31:46Also sounds like he might have something.
- 31:48Well, I mean, he absolutely has stuff.
- 31:51No, I mean like in writing.
- 31:55Well, what do you mean?
- 31:55Because they keep denying, I mean,
- 31:57this is really just about whether or not
- 31:59any sort of lawsuit under these conditions
- 32:01are suitable for NFL arbitration.
- 32:03I don't know if they're looking specifically
- 32:05at any legitimate evidence.
- 32:07But the other interesting part of this
- 32:11is that the NFL is currently, while this has all happened,
- 32:14concurrently cooperating with the Florida Attorney General
- 32:19on their investigation into the Rooney Rule.
- 32:23They have said they're gonna cooperate.
- 32:25Of course they are.
- 32:26Right, so originally there was the investigation
- 32:30into the Rooney Rule that they said
- 32:31that they were gonna potentially launch.
- 32:32The NFL changed the wording to the Rooney Rule
- 32:35to try to appease the Attorney General.
- 32:37The Attorney General came back and said,
- 32:38now that you've changed the wording,
- 32:40we actually distrust you even more
- 32:41because this means that you actually
- 32:43were trying to do biased hiring.
- 32:45And so now we're gonna launch a full investigation
- 32:47and the NFL said that they're going to-
- 32:48How is the Rooney Rule biased hiring?
- 32:50It's ensuring that people get interviews.
- 32:53What the fuck are we talking about?
- 32:56I know.
- 32:57This is a fucking clown show.
- 32:58And it's barely doing that.
- 32:59I mean, the Rooney Rule-
- 33:00It's barely doing it.
- 33:01And I mean barely.
- 33:02Is this a fucking joke?
- 33:04Yeah.
- 33:05Like, did I just fucking take a time machine to 1946?
- 33:08Like, are we actually discussing this?
- 33:10Well, you know how this administration feels about DEI
- 33:13and they think that the Rooney Rule is DEI.
- 33:14It's an interview.
- 33:15Uh-huh, I'm aware.
- 33:17It's not saying you must hire certain,
- 33:21it means you must interview a percentage of-
- 33:25So here's the thing-
- 33:26I feel like I'm taking fucking crazy pills, Mocha.
- 33:28You can't, they would never win in court.
- 33:32It should never get to court.
- 33:34But this is the problem.
- 33:35It probably-
- 33:36This should have been an email.
- 33:37It probably won't,
- 33:38because what the Florida Attorney General really wants
- 33:41is what he's going to get,
- 33:42which is the NFL just having a reason
- 33:44to scrap the Rooney Rule altogether
- 33:46before it even gets to court.
- 33:48And that's what's going to happen,
- 33:49because guess what?
- 33:50It's not in the CBA.
- 33:51It's not contractually necessary.
- 33:55And that's what they're, it's a whole thing.
- 33:57So while that's happening, this is happening.
- 34:00These two things are contradictory, right?
- 34:03They're completely contradictory.
- 34:04Good, I hope it blows fucking everything up.
- 34:06And it is, I mean, open court, NFL and open court,
- 34:10I don't think people understand.
- 34:11That's, that's a big deal.
- 34:13I get cameras in there.
- 34:14We rarely get it.
- 34:15You better make this an OJ trial.
- 34:16We rarely get, well-
- 34:18Open, open cameras.
- 34:19I want to see everything.
- 34:19I want to see the blood.
- 34:20I want to see the, I want to see someone put on a glove.
- 34:23Meanwhile, Brian Flores is still
- 34:24the defensive coordinator of the Vikings.
- 34:26Yes, he is.
- 34:27One of the best coordinators in the league.
- 34:28Has been for years.
- 34:29Just like, this is insane.
- 34:31The whole thing is insane.
- 34:32I forgot about Wilkes and how he got done
- 34:34so dirty by Carolina.
- 34:35So, no, it was Arizona.
- 34:37Oh, Arizona too.
- 34:38Jesus, Wilkes really fucking wears it everywhere.
- 34:41He got screwed in Arizona.
- 34:43Dude, that guy's a hell of a coach.
- 34:44He got screwed in Arizona.
- 34:46I forgot about the Arizona thing.
- 34:47Bad, bad.
- 34:48So yeah, this, this is something that I'll be tracking.
- 34:52I obviously, you know, I've been staying
- 34:54on top of all of this stuff with the,
- 34:56any sort of like NFL litigation, NFLPA stuff,
- 35:00kind of a beat of mine.
- 35:02So I'll be staying on top of it.
- 35:03But I do find that these, you know,
- 35:06I just want people to understand that
- 35:07if this is a situation that does go to court,
- 35:09an NFL, a racism case against the NFL in open court,
- 35:13the last time that the NFL was sued was by,
- 35:16for something to this effect was by Colin Kaepernick
- 35:18and there was a settlement.
- 35:19So if, and it appears that Brian Flores
- 35:22ain't looking for a fucking settlement.
- 35:23No, he ain't.
- 35:25Oh man, Brian Flores might be owning a franchise
- 35:28by the end of this shit.
- 35:29You know what?
- 35:30That would be great.
- 35:31I would love this.
- 35:32That would be great.
- 35:33Oh my God.
- 35:34So yeah.
- 35:35Keep your eyes on that and let's hope this,
- 35:36let's hope the whole system just kind of burns a little bit.
- 35:39All right, let's go over to media corner
- 35:41and boy, oh boy, am I excited to talk about this
- 35:43because I've noticed a lot of keep your politics out
- 35:46of your, my sports crowd is shutting the fuck up this week.
- 35:50Oh no, I wish they were shutting up.
- 35:51Oh no, it's actually the opposite.
- 35:52They're not shutting up.
- 35:54They're talking about how great it is when they do it.
- 35:58Boomer, Jesus Boomer.
- 36:00Okay, Boomer.
- 36:01Jesus Boomer.
- 36:03Every time.
- 36:04I had a tweet a few months,
- 36:04like a month ago that went about Boomer
- 36:06where I was, he said something ridiculous
- 36:07and I think it was about the Olympics.
- 36:09And I think I wrote out old guy says old guy shit.
- 36:12Like I'm not even, I'm not even mad at Boomer.
- 36:14Why are we expecting Boomer to be anything
- 36:15but a 60 year old man?
- 36:16We talked about it on this show
- 36:18cause like there was a bunch of people
- 36:19who were going back and forth
- 36:19about the keep politics out of sports stuff.
- 36:21And then like, you know,
- 36:22Cash Patel showed up in the locker room.
- 36:24In the locker room drinking beer like a fiend.
- 36:26Oh, this is fine.
- 36:27And yeah, which leads to the story
- 36:29of the great Jackson Dart,
- 36:31who's accomplished all these things
- 36:33in the NFL doing what he did.
- 36:36Take it away, Tanya.
- 36:37Yeah, so in case you didn't know Jackson Dart,
- 36:39the quarterback of the Giants
- 36:41who is, was a rookie last season.
- 36:45They won four games, I believe last season.
- 36:46So, you know, real whatever.
- 36:49He introduced Donald Trump at a rally.
- 36:53No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 36:54I want to make this abundantly clear.
- 36:55He was pleasured to do so.
- 36:57He was pleasured to do so.
- 36:58Direct quote, his words, not mine.
- 37:00He was pleasured.
- 37:01Okay, you ever been pleasured by things?
- 37:05Never by Trump.
- 37:06No, well, he was pleasured by introducing him.
- 37:09So that's a thing to be pleasured by.
- 37:11Honestly, that sounds like something Trump would love.
- 37:13He probably, well yeah, he was pleasured.
- 37:15That's great.
- 37:15Trump loves an accidentally homoerotic phrase.
- 37:18Pleasured.
- 37:19Direct quote.
- 37:20Yeah.
- 37:21So he was pleasured to introduce Donald Trump at a rally.
- 37:24Did a try to do a go big blue chant.
- 37:26That fell kind of flat.
- 37:28It was a, very clearly he was there
- 37:31to stump for Donald Trump.
- 37:32And also for the, there was like another politician
- 37:36who was, that was actually who they were
- 37:38they're rallying for regardless.
- 37:40Who's even fucking worse somehow.
- 37:43Anyways.
- 37:44Yes.
- 37:45Abdul Carter, his teammate, defensive end
- 37:48drafted in the same year, rookie, all pro, all rookie team.
- 37:55Very good.
- 37:56Yeah, he's very good.
- 37:57He was a little thrown by this behavior
- 38:00and said, essentially, what is up with this?
- 38:02I thought this was AI.
- 38:03Like what the hell, man?
- 38:04And that caused a whole scene.
- 38:07Some people saying good for Abdul Carter
- 38:10for calling him out because he's there supporting
- 38:13Donald Trump, who's a racist among 4 million other things.
- 38:17And the people like our guy, Boomer Esiason,
- 38:21who was after all, spending all the winter Olympics.
- 38:24Boy, he was not short on, you know,
- 38:28anti-political opinions just three months ago.
- 38:31He could not stop talking about it.
- 38:32Boy, can't believe these athletes
- 38:35would say anything about politics.
- 38:37Man, they're athletes.
- 38:38Shut up and skate one.
- 38:39Why don't you?
- 38:41Just represent your country.
- 38:42Okay, well, not only did he not just,
- 38:47he could have just gone on
- 38:48and defended Jackson Dart's decision,
- 38:50but that's not what he decided to do, Cody.
- 38:52He decided to say that this was a real error
- 38:56by Abdul Carter, not on the part of Jackson Dart.
- 38:59This has been the most fascinating, gaslighting shit
- 39:04I've seen some people in the media do.
- 39:05And he's not the only one, by the way.
- 39:07There are so many people trying to take this stance
- 39:10that the clubhouse is a sacred place.
- 39:14Fuck you.
- 39:16You've never stepped foot in a clubhouse,
- 39:17the majority of you.
- 39:18I have.
- 39:19The clubhouse is not a sacred place.
- 39:21If you buy that, you're a fucking idiot.
- 39:24You're a fucking idiot.
- 39:26And when I stepped in there,
- 39:27they were also like, why are you here?
- 39:28Yes, like, you know what the clubhouse is for?
- 39:31Getting fucking dressed.
- 39:32That's what the clubhouse is for, the end.
- 39:35Yeah, but he, so he's,
- 39:37he immediately goes in on Abdul Carter
- 39:39and says it's, says it's, it's Abdul Carter's fault,
- 39:42not Jackson Dart.
- 39:44Jackson Dart was asked to introduce the president.
- 39:46How many people get that opportunity?
- 39:47A lot. Blah, blah, blah.
- 39:48You were a man who was late to meetings,
- 39:51goes in on Abdul Carter,
- 39:52takes the opportunity to lay into him.
- 39:55And here's my thing.
- 39:56Sounds about right.
- 39:57This is what I put, I post on threads,
- 39:59people talking about this.
- 40:00And I was like, you know what disrupts a locker room?
- 40:03Racism.
- 40:05Yeah.
- 40:05How are we gonna act like Abdul Carter's
- 40:08the problem here?
- 40:09First of all, this league is 70% black.
- 40:11I'm not saying all of them are liberal.
- 40:13I'm not saying everybody's like,
- 40:14there's not black, you know, MAGA voters, whatever.
- 40:17But for the most part,
- 40:18the idea of going and, and it's,
- 40:20you weren't invited to the White House.
- 40:22You are now on a one-on-one,
- 40:23I'm taking front row center stage
- 40:26to introduce Donald Trump at a rally
- 40:28as a, as a middling former,
- 40:32like you had a middling rookie year.
- 40:35Like for, you took a couple insane headshots.
- 40:38Basically said, I will not stop playing like this.
- 40:41Well, danced around in your oversized chains,
- 40:44doing, appropriating all the dances that your teammates do.
- 40:48And then like you and your dumb buddies,
- 40:51Cam Scadaboo got hurt.
- 40:53And the, the, the whole thing was a shit show.
- 40:55He's fine.
- 40:57We have no idea what he's gonna be.
- 40:58Of course he's fine.
- 40:59He's pleasured now.
- 41:00He'll probably be a backup quarterback
- 41:01in the next couple of years
- 41:02to think that you have any right
- 41:05to create a distraction like this for your team
- 41:08is fucking absurd.
- 41:09And I, as far as the media is concerned,
- 41:12I think it's really fucking funny
- 41:14that it's always, oh, when you're talking about this
- 41:17in the Olympics, it's a distraction.
- 41:19When you're Colin Kaepernick peacefully taking a knee,
- 41:21it's a distraction.
- 41:23When you're, oh, but Jackson Dart doing go big blue chant.
- 41:27So bringing the NFL to the stage
- 41:29to rally for the least popular president
- 41:31in the history of the United States, not a distraction.
- 41:34It's Abdul Carter's fault.
- 41:35Oh yeah.
- 41:36He's ruining the clubhouse.
- 41:38Oh, and he's late to meetings
- 41:40and all this other conjecture that show where's your one.
- 41:44If you're gonna say that shit, show me your proof.
- 41:45Don't, don't, don't pull that shit.
- 41:47That's, that's, that's dirty, ugly.
- 41:49Stephen A. Smith bullshit.
- 41:50I know things about you.
- 41:52That's that shit.
- 41:52Don't pull that shit.
- 41:53What are you some fucking bully?
- 41:55You're really gonna bully a rookie player?
- 41:57Right.
- 41:58Then fucking grow up.
- 41:58You're a fucking 65 year old man.
- 42:00Grow up.
- 42:01It's so, and like on top of it,
- 42:03then Abdul Carter.
- 42:04Now I, you know, as well as I do, Cody,
- 42:07Abdul Carter coming out and saying, hey,
- 42:08we talked on the phone.
- 42:09You can keep your takes, whatever.
- 42:12First of all, I find it interesting
- 42:14that Abdul Carter had to be the one.
- 42:15He had to be the one to now post the, like, we're cool.
- 42:20Jackson Dart, not on him.
- 42:21Face of the team, the quarterback, the one who went there.
- 42:24I just had enough of these people.
- 42:26So, so Abdul Carter has to put it out there.
- 42:28We know for sure, Jim Harbaugh's, John Harbaugh's MAGA,
- 42:31because he told us last year,
- 42:33we know that their owners in the Epstein files over 440 times.
- 42:37Sure is.
- 42:38So this.
- 42:39By the way, how much has Boober talked about that?
- 42:41I'm just curious.
- 42:42About zero.
- 42:42Just asking, just wondering,
- 42:44wondering when he wants to talk about that.
- 42:46Wonder if that's affecting a clubhouse.
- 42:48Is that a distraction?
- 42:50Well, no, because no one in the clubhouse
- 42:52is talking about it.
- 42:53Isn't that funny?
- 42:54Oh, it's not hurting the clubhouse.
- 42:56No, that like, so this is, this is the structure.
- 42:59So you're telling me.
- 43:00She won four games last year.
- 43:02What the fuck?
- 43:03Yeah, you're locked.
- 43:03Your locker room has got brutal, huh?
- 43:06The locker room culture is going to be disrupted.
- 43:08I don't know.
- 43:09Your quarterback is like, like being MAGA.
- 43:12Isn't like just some, like, it's not, it's not anodyne.
- 43:16Like we need to stop acting
- 43:18like these political affiliations are, have, have no,
- 43:21like, this is just the nineties.
- 43:22It's not the fucking nineties anymore.
- 43:24People are getting huge reactions.
- 43:27Listen, I, this isn't even a political thing at this point.
- 43:30Like I'm not even like, I am even borderline
- 43:33understand the idea of, you know,
- 43:35getting the opportunity to do something for a president.
- 43:38I even, fine.
- 43:41I'm, if that is where you're going on,
- 43:44I'm going to really quickly fold myself
- 43:46into a dozen pretzels and let's just,
- 43:48I'm going to live in the world that that's fine.
- 43:50Okay.
- 43:52You've won four fucking games last year.
- 43:54Well, that's why, that's why I find it so suspicious.
- 43:57It's obvious that he's just seeking out people.
- 43:59He knows our mega, because why would you give
- 44:02a rookie quarterback?
- 44:04No one gives a fuck about the opportunity
- 44:06to even introduce you, like, sorry, like.
- 44:09Followed up with the next thing
- 44:10that just is driving me insane, which always does.
- 44:13And I, I'm actually, you know, shame on me
- 44:15for feeling, getting, feeling insane about this.
- 44:16Really, and I mean that.
- 44:17Shame on me for expecting the media to do anything else.
- 44:20Shame on me for expecting certain broadcasters
- 44:22to do something else.
- 44:23Shame on me for expecting them
- 44:25to actually critically look at this
- 44:27and not immediately have the double standard of saying,
- 44:30well, this is fine, there's nothing wrong with this
- 44:32after you've spent months dying on this stupid ass hill
- 44:36that athletes shouldn't be political.
- 44:37This is exactly the same as, same as Dana White
- 44:40doing the same thing for Trump and saying,
- 44:42none of my things at the RNC have been political.
- 44:45That fucking phrase is so goddamn stupid.
- 44:48I don't know what to do with myself.
- 44:50Nothing that I said on the stage at the RNC was political.
- 44:55I want to put my head through a plate glass window
- 44:57with these idiots.
- 44:58And it's insulting to my intelligence
- 45:00and to the intelligence of every sports fan
- 45:03that allows them to placate themselves
- 45:06and allows them, dare I say, quoting Jackson Dart,
- 45:09to pleasure themselves.
- 45:11Or to be pleasured by it.
- 45:13Oh, I'm so glad he's pleasured.
- 45:16It's from Utah.
- 45:17I don't know if he's ever been pleasured.
- 45:18Well, listen, and if he has,
- 45:20he probably can't talk about it.
- 45:22Nope, not allowed.
- 45:23So we'll leave that there for now.
- 45:25I'm sure we'll be back to Boomer at some point.
- 45:27He's never too far away.
- 45:29He always says something that gets under my skin.
- 45:32We've got, we're back to a voting scandal,
- 45:36a voting controversy.
- 45:39Voter explains why he left Victor Wembenyama
- 45:42off of the 2026 All-NBA First Team.
- 45:44Victor Wembenyama came one vote, 99 out of 100,
- 45:49one vote short of a unanimous All-NBA First Team.
- 45:54One would assume that Victor Wembenyama
- 45:56would be All-NBA First Team.
- 45:58It only, that's why there's 99 out of 100.
- 46:02You always have to wonder what that one person's thinking,
- 46:04and it's almost always a guy.
- 46:06And of course, in this case, it was a guy.
- 46:09We're not the best gender.
- 46:11Well, no, you're not.
- 46:13But you're good.
- 46:14You're a decent representation.
- 46:16This guy said he, so this is, what was his name?
- 46:20Termine?
- 46:22I don't, I forget where this guy's.
- 46:23Termine?
- 46:24Termini?
- 46:25Yeah, Termini.
- 46:26You don't know Termini?
- 46:28Oh, I love Termini.
- 46:30I'm not kidding.
- 46:32Termini has been on Beetle and Decker for years.
- 46:33I love Termini.
- 46:34I don't know who this is.
- 46:35Justin Termini?
- 46:36Is that who it is?
- 46:37Yeah.
- 46:38Hold on, okay.
- 46:39Okay, you know him.
- 46:40I know Justin Termini for years.
- 46:41He's been on my shows for years.
- 46:42Okay, so this is even better.
- 46:43So now you can weigh in.
- 46:45Because his explanation is.
- 46:46Oh, I heard it.
- 46:47Oh, you know?
- 46:48Oh, I read the rundown.
- 46:51I know the stories that we're doing.
- 46:52You didn't know it was your friend.
- 46:53I did.
- 46:54I'm confused why you don't know who Justin Termini is.
- 46:57Am I supposed, isn't he just a radio guy?
- 46:59Yeah, but he's been around.
- 47:00He's been an insider for years.
- 47:01Justin Termini's a guy.
- 47:03Yeah, he's been around for a long, long time.
- 47:04I'll take your word for it.
- 47:05No, no, no, no.
- 47:07I hate to Justin.
- 47:07I'm sure he doesn't know who I am either.
- 47:09But his argument for why he didn't
- 47:11was because there was once a time
- 47:15where you had to vote positionally for this.
- 47:19And now, since the M.B. Jokic of it all,
- 47:23the NBA changed the rules where you can vote
- 47:25for multiple people at the same position.
- 47:27And so a lot of people were voting both Wemby and Jokic.
- 47:32He decided that it is unfair to the past players
- 47:37who missed votes.
- 47:38Players like, I think he was talking about.
- 47:41Patrick Ewing.
- 47:42Patrick Ewing, right?
- 47:43Yes, he was.
- 47:44That it was unfair that they missed out on these
- 47:46because they were playing at the same time
- 47:47as like Shaq or Olajuwon or whoever else.
- 47:49And now Wemby, someone like Wemby and Jokic
- 47:53will get these repeated nominations
- 47:55because of the rule change.
- 47:56So he personally just decided,
- 47:58I'm only gonna vote positionally.
- 48:01He just decided like, even though they've changed the rules,
- 48:04I'm gonna follow the old rules
- 48:06while everybody else is following the new rules.
- 48:08And I'm gonna be the one guy that doesn't vote for Wemby.
- 48:11Now, I'm gonna get your opinion on this
- 48:15as somebody who knows Justin Termini.
- 48:18So sorry, so sorry, brother.
- 48:19I'm gonna become-
- 48:21Oh, I don't care.
- 48:21You can say it.
- 48:23I'm not defending this.
- 48:24Oh no, I'm saying-
- 48:25This is fucking hilarious.
- 48:26I'm saying I'm sorry for not knowing who he was.
- 48:29Not that I'm sorry for calling him out.
- 48:31Here's my take.
- 48:32Honestly, this is my take.
- 48:33This is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard
- 48:35in my life. It's really bad.
- 48:36And I like Justin Termini so much.
- 48:38And listen, I mean-
- 48:39I'm sorry.
- 48:41There's no universe you can get me to
- 48:44even listen to the take.
- 48:46Justice for Patrick Ewing.
- 48:48Justice for Patrick Ewing is great.
- 48:50Your reasoning is because of Patrick Ewing in 1994?
- 48:55He thinks it's like the idea
- 48:57that it's like disrupting the integrity of the process.
- 48:59It's a little fucking late for that.
- 49:01I mean, listen, this isn't gonna happen across sports.
- 49:04I think it's funny.
- 49:05All of the records that are being set in the NFL right now
- 49:07are all from people with an extra game, right?
- 49:09We saw this whole conversation with Myles Garrett.
- 49:10Like stuff is gonna happen.
- 49:11There's gonna be asterisks
- 49:12if you want him to have them, whatever else.
- 49:14Are we positive this isn't a joke?
- 49:17Like, are we positive?
- 49:18That's my only question.
- 49:19Are we positive?
- 49:20Because this is so,
- 49:21this is so nuts to me.
- 49:25I would never vote on like an award in 2026
- 49:29because like Greg Vaughn was screwed out of MVP voting.
- 49:33Here's his whole explanation.
- 49:35There's your boy.
- 49:36His whole explanation.
- 49:37There's your guy right there.
- 49:40I hate to break it to you, but it's,
- 49:43and listen, I don't like when people
- 49:48in votership groups like this, right?
- 49:51I really hate when people decide
- 49:53that their personal framework
- 49:56gets to override the way that everybody else is voting.
- 49:59And like, what makes you, again, no hate,
- 50:02but you aren't exactly Bob Costas.
- 50:04Why are you acting like you are?
- 50:07Just because I've worked with him
- 50:08and I'm friendly with him
- 50:08does not mean you need to hold back.
- 50:10This is so stupid.
- 50:12I'm not saying, I'm saying like,
- 50:14I'm not trying to be rude because neither am I,
- 50:17but like, you're not Bob Costas.
- 50:19What makes you think that you can just decide?
- 50:21Oh, and by the way, if Bob Costas did this,
- 50:23I'd be like, Bob, what the fuck are you doing?
- 50:25But again, at least, but then people could be like,
- 50:27oh, well, who do you guys think you are?
- 50:29And we'd be like, fair, fair point.
- 50:30Well, he's always Bob Costas.
- 50:31Right.
- 50:32But like, you know, if you're Al Michaels
- 50:34and you called the Miracle Game,
- 50:36okay, now I understand why you have such a fucking ego.
- 50:38Where's your ego coming from that you've decided
- 50:40that the framework you need to work around
- 50:42is to make sure that Wemby isn't treated better
- 50:44than fucking Patrick Ewing?
- 50:46I'm sorry.
- 50:47Just the fact-
- 50:49Insanity.
- 50:50I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
- 50:51If this was his reasoning,
- 50:54Justin, this would have been my biggest secret.
- 50:57He's right here.
- 50:58I know, I would have taken it to the grave.
- 51:00You're acting like I-
- 51:01I would have never told anyone ever.
- 51:02Why do you keep saying if?
- 51:04Because I just, I can't, I know, I just,
- 51:07I'm hoping it turns, I'm hoping in three days
- 51:10he says it's a bit.
- 51:11Well, the vote, either way, the vote went a different way.
- 51:15I know, it's just-
- 51:16So either way, the vote did not go to Wemby.
- 51:17I did it for Patrick Ewing, it's so funny.
- 51:20Well, I mean, not specifically.
- 51:22I think it's not just Patrick Ewing.
- 51:23But no, that's, but he specified Patrick Ewing.
- 51:27And so that's what I'm paraphrasing it to.
- 51:30Yeah, but-
- 51:31For better or worse, it reminds me of that old,
- 51:33remember when Rikishi ran over the rock?
- 51:37He did kind of like-
- 51:38No, he didn't kind of, that's what he said.
- 51:41He said, because if Shaquille and Elijah
- 51:43on Patrick Ewing never got these things.
- 51:44I was hoping that he was just like using it like as like,
- 51:47there's been a bunch of Patrick Ewing's over the years,
- 51:49but no, he was like specifically hung up on Patrick Ewing.
- 51:52He really wants somehow love for Patrick.
- 51:53Is he a Knicks fan?
- 51:55I guess he is, I guess.
- 51:58I can't stress enough, this is,
- 52:01I'm hoping it's a bit.
- 52:04It's not a bit, stop.
- 52:05How can anyone do this ever?
- 52:08Like ever, like even admit, like they should,
- 52:10they honestly should take your vote away.
- 52:14Like it's insane.
- 52:15I actually think if you admit to just like,
- 52:18not voting with everybody else.
- 52:20I think if you admit to being like,
- 52:21I don't care how everybody else votes
- 52:23and I'm just going to vote the way that I feel.
- 52:26Like, I do think that if like,
- 52:27this voting gets out of control
- 52:29when people use different parameters
- 52:30and they give you such few parameters to begin with.
- 52:32Joanna in Arizona who consumes a lot of our stuff
- 52:36and a lot of the other stuff.
- 52:37She just said this and she's absolutely right.
- 52:39Does Michelle Beadle know
- 52:40that Justin didn't vote for Wemby?
- 52:42That might be, like I'm laughing,
- 52:45Michelle might get pissed.
- 52:47That's because he's been on with you and Beadle.
- 52:52Oh man, I'm not telling her.
- 52:53Joanna, you tell her.
- 52:54I'll tell her.
- 52:55You tell her.
- 52:56I'll tell her.
- 52:57I'm not saying shit.
- 52:58I'm going to save Justin Termini's life
- 52:59is what I'm going to say.
- 53:02Listen, if nothing else, it's really funny.
- 53:06It is.
- 53:07It's really funny.
- 53:08I'm glad you got a kick out of it.
- 53:09I thought it was wild.
- 53:10It's so stupid that it's the funniest thing
- 53:12I've ever heard in my life.
- 53:13It's very harmless because at the end of the day,
- 53:15like who cares about a unanimous all pro?
- 53:17It was the reasoning that was like nuts.
- 53:19Yes.
- 53:20I don't know what to tell you.
- 53:21It was so easy.
- 53:22I did it for Patrick Ewing is the funniest thing ever.
- 53:25It reminds me of 1999 WWE
- 53:29when you found out Rikishi was the one
- 53:32that ran over Stone Cold and he takes the microphone
- 53:34saying, I did it for the rock.
- 53:37That's what he's doing right now.
- 53:38I did it for, I did it for Patrick Ewing.
- 53:40Meanwhile, Patrick Ewing's like, can you not?
- 53:42Like, you know Patrick Ewing's not.
- 53:43Patrick Ewing's like, please don't.
- 53:46Yeah.
- 53:47Please don't rope me into this.
- 53:47I'm good, dude.
- 53:49The pity vote 34 years later.
- 53:51I'm stealing this and talking about this on the show tomorrow.
- 53:54I have to.
- 53:54This is too funny.
- 53:55I'm so sorry, Justin.
- 53:56Oh my God.
- 53:57This is insane.
- 53:58Lo siento.
- 53:59Oh man.
- 54:00This is how I learned who he is.
- 54:02Hey, listen.
- 54:03You know what?
- 54:04He made a name for himself.
- 54:05He's getting some play out of it as he should.
- 54:06So by the way, he's on NBA radio on Sirius XM.
- 54:09No, again, this is not me being a dick.
- 54:11I can't know everybody who's on every radio station
- 54:13in the United States.
- 54:14He's also in New York and I worked with him in New York.
- 54:16I get it.
- 54:17I wasn't making fun of you for not knowing Justin Timberlake.
- 54:21No, I know you weren't.
- 54:22I want to make it clear to other people
- 54:23that like this, that I'm not like being,
- 54:26I'm not being a dick being like,
- 54:27I don't even know who he is.
- 54:29I literally just like, this is a radio guy.
- 54:31Well, you don't listen to NBA radio on Sirius XM.
- 54:33I have a lot because I used to be employed by them.
- 54:37No longer.
- 54:38Tough look for you.
- 54:39Well, you know.
- 54:41God, NBA radio, man.
- 54:42Listen, I've never been quiet about how much I love Odyssey.
- 54:44Listen, and NBA radio, you know what's great
- 54:48is having a baseball guy and a basketball guy on mornings
- 54:52at from six to 10.
- 54:53That's, I think that's the sweet spot of radio.
- 54:55And that's what I would like to listen to.
- 54:57Well, it's funny you say that.
- 54:58It actually is a sweet spot of radio.
- 54:59Known as morning drive here in Los Angeles, California
- 55:01and everywhere else.
- 55:03Yeah, it's been, we're doing a new segment.
- 55:06Get ready for this, Mocha.
- 55:07It's called catch up corner.
- 55:08And why are we doing catch up corner?
- 55:09Quite frankly, we haven't seen each other in a few weeks.
- 55:12We've been texting, obviously,
- 55:14but she's been all over globetrotting the East coast.
- 55:17And I have now started my new gig mornings in Los Angeles
- 55:21and a brand new radio station, 97.1 The Fan LA.
- 55:25Please give it a check, check it out.
- 55:26It's the first sports radio station on FM in Los Angeles.
- 55:30And, you know, a weekend, me and Derek Fisher,
- 55:33the show's called Derek and Decker.
- 55:34It has been an absolute blast.
- 55:37I can't stress enough how much I love the energy
- 55:40of sports radio and talking to listeners
- 55:43that are calling in and we're very much into,
- 55:47thank God, Odyssey is in the modern era.
- 55:49We have a great YouTube channel.
- 55:50We're interacting with the chat a lot, which is great.
- 55:52That's awesome.
- 55:53Okay, so that you've been getting good chat stuff on YouTube.
- 55:56And a lot of our listeners here have been joining us
- 55:58over there as well.
- 55:59And it's just been great.
- 56:01It's been a phenomenal.
- 56:02You've got some loyal listeners.
- 56:03I mean, people want more Decker.
- 56:04I've been, I'm very lucky with the few that have joined me,
- 56:08like Joanna in Arizona, Jeets 22.
- 56:11You have to keep telling them
- 56:12that you want Tanya on as a guest.
- 56:15Oh, you'll be on as a guest.
- 56:16You don't even worry about that.
- 56:17You will 100% be on.
- 56:20You know what?
- 56:21I have to call in.
- 56:22You do.
- 56:23Oh my God, no, I have to call in as a fan.
- 56:24You should.
- 56:26Throw in your Boston accent.
- 56:28He's like, I don't know.
- 56:29I do think that Jalen Brown.
- 56:32Derek Fisher's like, what the fuck is going on?
- 56:34He's like, I think Brown does need to be traded.
- 56:36Yeah.
- 56:37That's what I think.
- 56:38I think he does.
- 56:39What about you, Fish?
- 56:40What do you think?
- 56:41Do you think he needs to be traded?
- 56:42I need to do this.
- 56:43Okay.
- 56:44Oh, wow.
- 56:45It might be the first time I finally get to hear
- 56:45your Boston accent.
- 56:46Yeah.
- 56:47And maybe I won't even know it's you.
- 56:48You didn't notice at all.
- 56:49And when we did our Zoom show
- 56:52that my accent had started to pop out at all.
- 56:54There was a word or two, but it wasn't much.
- 56:57It started to pop out a little bit,
- 56:58but then, yeah, you never really know,
- 57:01but I could feel it.
- 57:02And I was like, Cody would love this.
- 57:04Oh, by the way.
- 57:05This is true.
- 57:07Zion the Meek says, the show has been great.
- 57:10Been able to watch at work on YouTube
- 57:12and you are killing it.
- 57:13Also funny watching Derek Fume when you beat him in games.
- 57:16Yeah, we do a lot of trivia games
- 57:18and unfortunately I know everything.
- 57:19And so I keep winning.
- 57:20Oh, you're good at trivia.
- 57:21And he keeps losing.
- 57:23Listen, Derek Fisher is a very big sweetheart.
- 57:27Derek Fisher does not like to look.
- 57:30He has this thing.
- 57:31You guys are professional athletes.
- 57:32He puts his fist out to fist bump me
- 57:33and he just does this.
- 57:35Good job.
- 57:37And he's legitimately mad.
- 57:39That's how I would be.
- 57:40It's great.
- 57:41I'm really, I'm also deeply competitive in that way.
- 57:44And especially if it was trivia,
- 57:45oh, I'd be so pissed.
- 57:47And by the way, Derek Fisher has been fantastic,
- 57:49especially a guy who's never really done a ton of radio.
- 57:52He is just a wonderful guy on and off the air.
- 57:56And we went to the Dodger game last night.
- 57:57Those of you that watched the Dodger game,
- 57:58we were behind home plate.
- 58:00And I was rocking a very normal shirt
- 58:02that I would always wear.
- 58:04A black baby large T-shirt
- 58:09that was squeezing the life out of my body.
- 58:13Why?
- 58:14Because they gave me the shirt and they heard,
- 58:16when I said large, they heard baby gap large.
- 58:20And I had to go there suffering in this shirt
- 58:23that was cuffing off circulation,
- 58:25but it had a huge 97.1, the fan logo on it.
- 58:29So that was some good viral marketing.
- 58:31It's like I was promoting Smile 3.
- 58:33Yeah, you were your own billboard.
- 58:35Yes, I was.
- 58:36I ain't scared to do it.
- 58:36I'll pour myself out.
- 58:38I ain't scared.
- 58:39Yeah, you gotta.
- 58:40You kidding me?
- 58:41Every time they were like,
- 58:42hey, do you know anything about this product?
- 58:44And I look it up and it's just like, oh, dick pills.
- 58:46Yes.
- 58:47If not you, then who?
- 58:48Yeah.
- 58:49Why not us?
- 58:50Who is better to tell them than me?
- 58:51Yeah, you gotta do the,
- 58:56and then you gotta do the Rogaine pills
- 58:57or the, what is the hair transplant doctors in LA?
- 59:02By the way, I've suggested it to the marketing thing.
- 59:04Hey, get Bosley on board.
- 59:06Let's see if we can convince me to get a hair transplant.
- 59:08You can't, I like my bald head.
- 59:09No, and you don't need, you don't really need it.
- 59:11Like you could grow.
- 59:12You have hair.
- 59:13Would you believe it?
- 59:14No, I, yeah, but it's not like, it's like thinner here now.
- 59:16It's not great anymore.
- 59:19Your hair is like extra shiny right now.
- 59:21I did shower and shave right before we started the show.
- 59:24I wanted to, I wanted to gussy up
- 59:26for our first time together.
- 59:27Thank you for coming in looking nice.
- 59:28You're welcome.
- 59:30Little extra set of turtle wax.
- 59:32No, I actually, believe it or not,
- 59:34really like having a shaved head,
- 59:35which I was always scared of doing.
- 59:36And I'm really glad that,
- 59:38because when I chose to do it,
- 59:40I was told by my then girlfriend,
- 59:42she's like, I don't think you need to do it yet.
- 59:44And I kind of just went rogue and did it anyways.
- 59:48And then when I did it, like everyone said,
- 59:51oh yeah, this is who you look like from now on.
- 59:54I said, you don't want me to grow?
- 59:54They said, this is what you look like from now on.
- 59:56And I'm like, all right.
- 59:57And it took me a couple of days,
- 59:58but once I got used to it,
- 1:00:00I actually really like it.
- 1:00:01I can't imagine.
- 1:00:02So it's funny because when you were on Fox Sports 1,
- 1:00:06you had hair.
- 1:00:07I had hair.
- 1:00:08And I don't even remember you having hair.
- 1:00:09Like my brain has replaced you having hair
- 1:00:12with the way you look now because it's so,
- 1:00:14makes so much sense.
- 1:00:15But in like, when I think back on it,
- 1:00:18I'm like, there's no way you had hair.
- 1:00:19You're like, yes, I did.
- 1:00:20I did.
- 1:00:21I swear I had it.
- 1:00:22It wasn't great hair.
- 1:00:23And some of it might've been painted in.
- 1:00:25But like, you had it.
- 1:00:27I had a great wardrobe and makeup girl.
- 1:00:29It was just like, so what do you want to do?
- 1:00:31I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:00:32Make it look not shitty on TV.
- 1:00:34Well, luckily, like if you're, you know,
- 1:00:36if you're far away from the camera.
- 1:00:37No, I was fine.
- 1:00:38It really wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good either.
- 1:00:41It was, for me, it was time to go.
- 1:00:44Yeah.
- 1:00:45All right.
- 1:00:46So radio show.
- 1:00:47We're loving it.
- 1:00:48I'm having a blast.
- 1:00:49You know, the 4 a.m. wake up calls in Los Angeles
- 1:00:52really are not that bad.
- 1:00:53No, I mean, you don't deal with traffic.
- 1:00:54I don't deal with traffic.
- 1:00:55I can watch every game till 10 p.m.
- 1:00:57and get to sleep by 10.30.
- 1:00:59And it really is fantastic.
- 1:01:01The only thing I haven't figured out yet is the new,
- 1:01:03like, I'm still working out after the show,
- 1:01:05but man, I gotta say.
- 1:01:06The workout routine getting thrown off is so brutal.
- 1:01:09So I'm just, I'm forcing myself, obviously,
- 1:01:11but like, it's so hard after coming off the air,
- 1:01:15talking for four straight hours to go like,
- 1:01:18now I'm gonna pick up heavy shit for an hour.
- 1:01:20No.
- 1:01:21I like picking up heavy shit to start my day.
- 1:01:23You would prefer to, like, be in at, what, 3 a.m.?
- 1:01:27I honestly would love to show up at, like,
- 1:01:30be there at four, lift for 40 minutes,
- 1:01:33shower, and then walk into the studio at five.
- 1:01:36Like, that's what I would kill for.
- 1:01:37So you have to be in the studio at five, generally?
- 1:01:40Roughly.
- 1:01:41I like being in there an hour ahead of time.
- 1:01:42Well, especially right now.
- 1:01:43Yeah, I like prepping and, like, you know,
- 1:01:46I kind of have a very good workflow
- 1:01:47that I like to do before shows.
- 1:01:48I still think, I think we gotta find a way
- 1:01:50to break you into that gym.
- 1:01:52Don't tell them that I'm coming up with this plan.
- 1:01:53Please, please.
- 1:01:54I'm two weeks back into being employed again.
- 1:01:57Nobody fired you.
- 1:01:58Like, I already got cleared by HR.
- 1:01:59They did my background check.
- 1:02:00Now you're trying to play a crime.
- 1:02:01This company's already fired me, like, twice before.
- 1:02:03They don't need an excuse to do it a third time.
- 1:02:06Planning crimes on the podcast.
- 1:02:08But I, it's, it's, I'm not kidding.
- 1:02:11I've said it before.
- 1:02:12I'm gonna say it again.
- 1:02:13It's a dream job.
- 1:02:15It's a legitimate dream job that I've wanted to do
- 1:02:18since I was a little kid.
- 1:02:20You know, my father, when he died,
- 1:02:23he and I were not on great terms.
- 1:02:25And we were on great terms our entire lives.
- 1:02:26And so the fact that we weren't on great terms
- 1:02:29at the end of his life has kind of bothered me a little.
- 1:02:31And the reason why is because of,
- 1:02:34of my dreams that I had,
- 1:02:37I wouldn't say he put them on me.
- 1:02:38That's not what I'm saying, but these were his dreams.
- 1:02:41Like, his dream was to be a baseball player
- 1:02:44when he was a kid.
- 1:02:45And once he realized he had no athletic ability,
- 1:02:47he wanted to be a radio LA disc jockey.
- 1:02:49And he had some opportunities
- 1:02:51and he did do a little bit of it,
- 1:02:52but he never really did it for a living.
- 1:02:54I've had the luxury and opportunity
- 1:02:56to be a professional baseball player for 11 years
- 1:02:59and then work in this realm for the last seven.
- 1:03:03And now I am the morning radio host
- 1:03:05of a drive time FM LA talk station.
- 1:03:08I mean, I can't stress enough the,
- 1:03:11how much the responsibility comes to mind
- 1:03:14and the opportunity comes to mind
- 1:03:16and just how much he would have gotten a kick out of this.
- 1:03:20Well, he is.
- 1:03:21I know, he's still haunting your mom.
- 1:03:23But like, my mom said she's actually never had somebody
- 1:03:28this persistent.
- 1:03:29My dad really needs to just move on to the afterlife.
- 1:03:32No, that's not how it works.
- 1:03:33Stop haunting Tanya's mom, you selfish prick.
- 1:03:38No, he's fine.
- 1:03:39Jesus.
- 1:03:41He's mostly harmless.
- 1:03:42He just sits on a couch and drinks.
- 1:03:43Yeah, exactly.
- 1:03:44He's fine.
- 1:03:45Is he drinking all your mom's booze?
- 1:03:46I apologize for that.
- 1:03:47Probably.
- 1:03:48God damn it, Jay.
- 1:03:49Will you learn nothing?
- 1:03:50My dad also did a lot of that too.
- 1:03:51So you know what?
- 1:03:53Also, I was thinking, Derek Fisher,
- 1:03:56what year did he win his first ring?
- 1:03:59The first one with the Lakers.
- 1:04:00What was it?
- 1:04:012000?
- 1:04:012000, 2001?
- 1:04:02So you were a kid watching Derek Fisher win a ring.
- 1:04:05Yeah.
- 1:04:06And now you're his co-host on a radio show.
- 1:04:08It is absolutely wild.
- 1:04:10That'd be like me hosting a radio show with Kurt Schilling.
- 1:04:18We're not there yet.
- 1:04:19We're not there yet.
- 1:04:19We're not there yet.
- 1:04:20I haven't heard shit about your reunion.
- 1:04:21You went to your 20-year high school reunion.
- 1:04:23Yes.
- 1:04:24How did that feel?
- 1:04:25It honestly, like, it felt great.
- 1:04:28We're in downtown Plymouth, right on the waterfront.
- 1:04:31Saw everybody.
- 1:04:33It was a good crowd that came out.
- 1:04:34I did not realize that so many of the people there
- 1:04:37that I would be excited to see,
- 1:04:38that would be excited to see me.
- 1:04:39Everybody was very grateful
- 1:04:40that I came in from Los Angeles.
- 1:04:42I was grateful that everybody else,
- 1:04:43it was some, one of my classmates came in from Montana.
- 1:04:46I'm like, that's harder than coming in from Los Angeles.
- 1:04:48Yeah, I've seen Yellowstone.
- 1:04:49There was a little bit of drama
- 1:04:50that we're gonna keep off mic, but I did.
- 1:04:52I, you know, there's always one person
- 1:04:56that pretends that everything's cool when it's not.
- 1:04:59So we handled that.
- 1:05:02Good.
- 1:05:03As I expect you to.
- 1:05:03My best friend by the end of the night,
- 1:05:05he was arm wrestling people.
- 1:05:06Naturally, as you do.
- 1:05:08The prom king arm wrestled him on the way out,
- 1:05:11beat him and shut him up, which I loved.
- 1:05:13Good job, prom king.
- 1:05:14It's rare I root for the prom king.
- 1:05:16Yep, the hockey players came in very lit off of substances.
- 1:05:21So it was just like being back at a high school dance.
- 1:05:23Well, you know, hockey is often played in white powder.
- 1:05:25Yeah.
- 1:05:26So, you know, it was like absolutely.
- 1:05:28I'm told.
- 1:05:30Yep.
- 1:05:31So that was really fun.
- 1:05:33Then we, a day later, I flew to Disney World with my mom
- 1:05:37and my sisters, my two sisters.
- 1:05:39First girl's trip, family trip in forever.
- 1:05:42I grew up going to Disney World.
- 1:05:43My mom would take us to Disney World.
- 1:05:44That was her thing.
- 1:05:45She, you know, once she's a creature of habit.
- 1:05:47So once she found that routine of like,
- 1:05:51this is a vacation that we can go and do.
- 1:05:53Originally, we would go do it with my grandfather
- 1:05:55who lives down in Melbourne Beach.
- 1:05:57And then we just kept doing it.
- 1:05:59So we had been a ton, but as adults,
- 1:06:01I'm living across the country.
- 1:06:02When was the last time I went on a vacation
- 1:06:04with my sisters and my mom?
- 1:06:05Forever ago.
- 1:06:06How long has it actually been?
- 1:06:08I mean, the four of us?
- 1:06:09Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 1:06:10I mean, the four of us haven't been on a trip
- 1:06:13away from like outside of our weddings, right?
- 1:06:16Like, so like in forever.
- 1:06:19So like, obviously we're all together in Miami
- 1:06:21for my wedding.
- 1:06:22We were all together in, you know,
- 1:06:22whatever for Angel's wedding, but like it's,
- 1:06:25we, you know, that's a difficult thing to pull off
- 1:06:28and especially Disney.
- 1:06:30So we did five days down there, just the girls.
- 1:06:33It was epic, but Cody.
- 1:06:36But?
- 1:06:38Andy loves, Andrea loves Disney.
- 1:06:40Okay, Mama Fox loves Disney.
- 1:06:41Yes.
- 1:06:42She is a Disney adult in the way that like,
- 1:06:44she just loves, it's her like comfort place to go,
- 1:06:46but she's not, she's not one of those people
- 1:06:48that's like a creep about it.
- 1:06:50Okay.
- 1:06:52I grew up going in the early, like in the 2000s.
- 1:06:57It is not, it is like a corporate hell hole now.
- 1:07:02The reason I enjoyed it was because I was with my mom
- 1:07:04and my sisters in places that were familiar
- 1:07:07and we got to do some cool new things
- 1:07:08that they were excited to show me.
- 1:07:09The rides are obviously really great,
- 1:07:11but like every, it's not the same thing it was.
- 1:07:16Like, you don't just buy a ticket and go to the park.
- 1:07:19No, no.
- 1:07:20You, we spent more time on apps, getting lightning lanes.
- 1:07:24Dude, it's so bad, isn't it?
- 1:07:26It was so fucking bad that I was like, it was so awful.
- 1:07:30We, my mom is a, is a like annual pass holder.
- 1:07:33I'm there on a cast member pass
- 1:07:35because Chris works for ASPN, so we get,
- 1:07:38so, but like, because we're not actually paying
- 1:07:40for the, like these, the big packages,
- 1:07:43they make everything actually harder on you than,
- 1:07:46it's Cody, like.
- 1:07:48It's, it sucks.
- 1:07:49I don't understand how, like, I know why my mom does it.
- 1:07:54And I know that, that she is like, so it's like,
- 1:07:58she knows her way around.
- 1:07:59She knows all the places.
- 1:08:00She knows how to do it.
- 1:08:01She boom, boom, boom.
- 1:08:01But in terms of like, just regularly that being the spot,
- 1:08:06I get so like, I mean, a part of this is
- 1:08:08because I'm an insufferable, like jerk.
- 1:08:11And I'm like, all I can think about is like,
- 1:08:14fuck late stage capitalism.
- 1:08:16Like I can't, there's a part of me that can't escape it.
- 1:08:18Every time I'm thinking about all,
- 1:08:20like paying to get on rides that I paid to,
- 1:08:24it drives me fucking nuts.
- 1:08:26I'm like, how is this, how does this not irk you
- 1:08:28every time you step into this God's forsaken park?
- 1:08:31So I'll tell you this, part of why,
- 1:08:34and it's also Disneyland too,
- 1:08:36because last time I went to Disneyland,
- 1:08:37same thing, the only difference,
- 1:08:39and this is honestly what I've always given Disneyland
- 1:08:41over Disney World,
- 1:08:42but I also understand people have
- 1:08:43the opposite feeling towards it.
- 1:08:45Disneyland, I love because you can do everything in a day,
- 1:08:47like literally get it all done in a day.
- 1:08:48Now with this new system that they have,
- 1:08:51they sure as hell have made it harder to do everything.
- 1:08:52They've made it so much harder, you can't, impossible.
- 1:08:54It probably is impossible.
- 1:08:56Now, Disney World, you can maybe do two parks a day, maybe.
- 1:09:00It's like that difficult.
- 1:09:01You can't, like, yeah, like we did a park a day
- 1:09:04and still didn't do everything.
- 1:09:05And that's brutal, and it's just not the same anymore.
- 1:09:07And you know what, believe it or not,
- 1:09:09I'm not as big on going to theme parks as I,
- 1:09:12I used to really dig going to theme parks, I really did.
- 1:09:14I accept, you know, ones I don't like,
- 1:09:16I hate the Six Flags and just like the roller coasters.
- 1:09:19You know what I like, and this is true,
- 1:09:21and I'll freely admit this,
- 1:09:22what I like about the Disneylands of the world
- 1:09:25is that the rides that you do occasionally,
- 1:09:27they tell a story.
- 1:09:28I like being told stories,
- 1:09:30which is why actually, believe it or not,
- 1:09:32Universal Studios Hollywood is still my favorite place.
- 1:09:34If I go to a theme park, I prefer,
- 1:09:38one, really accessible, two, lot of fun stuff to do,
- 1:09:43three, if you go at like 10, you can really do everything
- 1:09:47and feasibly be out of there by three or four
- 1:09:50and have like a really full day.
- 1:09:53And I don't know, I actually kind of appreciate
- 1:09:56Universal Studios a little bit more
- 1:09:57because they've kind of like gone out of their way
- 1:10:00not to be Disneyland.
- 1:10:02That being said, I don't think they're great,
- 1:10:04it's just like, if I choose, I choose Universal Studios.
- 1:10:07That's what I'm saying is like, there is,
- 1:10:08they've taken all of the like,
- 1:10:12being able to just have the magic of being in,
- 1:10:16like, you're supposed to feel like you're in a bubble,
- 1:10:17right, you're supposed to feel like you're in a bubble
- 1:10:19of whatever, and I think my mom feels like that
- 1:10:20when she's down there, and I certainly did,
- 1:10:23but it was only because I was with my mom and my sister.
- 1:10:26That part of it was, like, I couldn't go do that
- 1:10:29under any other circumstances.
- 1:10:31Like, I couldn't just go with anybody else
- 1:10:33and have the same experience.
- 1:10:34It literally was only so cool
- 1:10:37and made me feel like a kid again
- 1:10:38because I was with my mom and my sisters, right?
- 1:10:41So like, that was the thing.
- 1:10:42I don't know how people make it a regular thing
- 1:10:45without that, and maybe lots of people have that,
- 1:10:47I'm sure a lot of people do, but yeah.
- 1:10:50So, amazing trip with mom and sisters,
- 1:10:53minimal fighting between the four girls.
- 1:10:56We did pretty well, all things considered.
- 1:10:57Great meals, I will say.
- 1:11:01The people who work there, very hardworking people
- 1:11:05who I respect very much, and yeah,
- 1:11:08the next time we go on a girls' trip,
- 1:11:10I'm, like, making them go to, like,
- 1:11:11Pelican Hill with me or something.
- 1:11:12I love it, I love it.
- 1:11:13Well, you know, this has been a lot of fun catching up,
- 1:11:17and of course, we're gonna be doing this again on Thursday,
- 1:11:19and I'm actually, because we had so much to catch up on,
- 1:11:22we didn't really get a chance to talk about Curt Chilling
- 1:11:24and the fact that he's a fraud
- 1:11:26and never at any point had blood on his sock.
- 1:11:29I mean, he did have blood on his sock.
- 1:11:32Whose blood?
- 1:11:33Not his.
- 1:11:34Whose blood was that?
- 1:11:36Well, now, wait, you've just debuted a new potential theory
- 1:11:39because I was hearing spaghetti sauce before.
- 1:11:41I've always said marinara, but you know what?
- 1:11:43Now, if you're Adam and it's blood,
- 1:11:45then whose blood was it?
- 1:11:46Because sure, shit wasn't his.
- 1:11:47Sure, shit wasn't his.
- 1:11:49And I know he didn't get into a fight,
- 1:11:50that soft-ass Curt Chilling,
- 1:11:52so who willingly gave him blood?
- 1:11:55This is an absolutely unhinged take
- 1:11:57that I'm like, I wasn't prepared for.
- 1:11:59Whose blood is crazy, Cody?
- 1:12:01Whose blood was that?
- 1:12:02I wanna know whose blood was that,
- 1:12:03and it wasn't anybody's.
- 1:12:05It was marinara.
- 1:12:05I'll tell you whose blood it was.
- 1:12:07It was probably someone who said
- 1:12:08what we always say to end this show.
- 1:12:10Fuck Curt Chilling.
- 1:12:11Fuck Curt Chilling.
