- 1:12Speaker 14: hour of hell.
- 1:33Speaker 2: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown's Attack of the
- 1:36Speaker 2: Killers soundtrack. I'm Brian.
- 1:38Speaker 6: I'm Marlena.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I am Matthew. And we are coming to you live
- 1:41Speaker 2: via digital recording. Do you have a name for this place?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Everybody else has their own weird name for their abode.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I feel like I.
- 1:49Speaker 6: Did name it and I forgot what What did I
- 1:51Speaker 6: name it?
- 1:51Speaker 1: The Hobbit Hole?
- 1:53Speaker 6: No, that was the other house. I want to say
- 1:56Speaker 6: it was like the Black Moth Cottage.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Funky Chateau?
- 2:00Speaker 4: No.
- 2:01Speaker 6: I think it was Black Moth Cottage because we have
- 2:03Speaker 6: like a million moths in the summertime.
- 2:05Speaker 2: That's not black mold. That would explain some of the behavior.
- 2:09Speaker 1: That was the last place. It's a million moth.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It was also my last place.
- 2:13Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So live via digital recording from the Black Moth Cottage.
- 2:19Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Alrighty then.
- 2:21Speaker 6: That sounds like way darker than... I don't know. It
- 2:25Speaker 6: sounded cooler in my head. When you say it out loud,
- 2:27Speaker 6: it sounds really lame. I'll think about it. I'll think
- 2:30Speaker 6: about it for next time.
- 2:31Speaker 2: All right. I mean, you're just going to have to
- 2:33Speaker 2: get more moths.
- 2:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 6: Oh, no, we have plenty.
- 2:38Speaker 16: Really.
- 2:38Speaker 6: I mean, there's so many moths that there's just a
- 2:42Speaker 6: million spiders. Like, there were 30 spiders around the door,
- 2:46Speaker 6: and I had to name them all, and it was
- 2:47Speaker 6: really hard because each name had to be a pun.
- 2:51Speaker 2: What kind of.
- 2:53Speaker 6: They were orb weavers, so it was like Kevin Sorbo,
- 2:57Speaker 6: Roy Orbison, Orbson Wells, Orbville Redenbacher.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I'm sorry, people.
- 3:04Speaker 6: That's all I remember.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Apologies for the puns. I don't encourage puns on this show. So,
- 3:13Speaker 2: it's been a while. I've been trying to drag the
- 3:16Speaker 2: old gang out of retirement, so it's been a long time.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I've worked a few of the other ones in recently,
- 3:22Speaker 2: so it's been a while for you. Have you done
- 3:24Speaker 2: anything interesting in the last year or however long it's been?
- 3:30Speaker 2: Fun tales from the world of Marlene.
- 3:31Speaker 6: I don't know. I mean, we've traveled a lot. Like,
- 3:38Speaker 6: we went to, the most recently we went to Salem,
- 3:41Speaker 6: Massachusetts for Halloween, and that was super cool. Before that,
- 3:45Speaker 6: where did we go before that?
- 3:47Speaker 17: Gatlinburg?
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:48Speaker 6: Went to Gatlinburg and stayed in some cabins, or a cabin,
- 3:54Speaker 6: not some cabins, plural. We do not say in multiple cabins.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Just some random cabin.
- 3:58Speaker 6: In a cabin in the woods.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You didn't tell people you were coming. You just showed
- 4:01Speaker 2: up and stayed in their cabin.
- 4:02Speaker 6: And we watched Cabin in the Woods. Or no, we
- 4:04Speaker 6: watched Cabin Fever. We watched Cabin Fever. It's in the water.
- 4:09Speaker 6: And then before that, we went to Switzerland, Italy.
- 4:12Speaker 2: That's a much further drive than Gatlinburg.
- 4:15Speaker 6: Yeah, a little bit. So, I mean, that's pretty much
- 4:19Speaker 6: the only exciting thing that I've done in the last
- 4:22Speaker 6: year because I work all the time.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I don't go anywhere that doesn't involve a convention. Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And I can't be back within, like, a day. Because, yeah. So,
- 4:33Speaker 2: once again, this is why we're very confined in our...
- 4:35Speaker 2: I'm working on that. We're working on the funding to
- 4:38Speaker 2: spread out and go to Switzerland and do an episode.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But we'll see how that pans out.
- 4:43Speaker 6: I mean... There's probably, like, good acoustics there.
- 4:49Speaker 2: In the Alps? Yeah. I would think kind of echo here. Ricola.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Ricola.
- 4:57Speaker 6: I think that's supposed to be, like, I don't know,
- 5:00Speaker 6: Bavaria or something. Where is Ricola? Is it, like, the
- 5:04Speaker 6: Swiss Alps?
- 5:04Speaker 1: I think it's Swiss.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Can you at least do the Swiss Miss, girl?
- 5:08Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 5:10Speaker 6: I think so.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Swiss Miss chocolate pudding. All right, so... As we roll
- 5:15Speaker 2: into the music this week, I think it was the
- 5:18Speaker 2: last music episode that I brought up that I've actually
- 5:22Speaker 2: the last couple of times we've talked. I've mentioned I've
- 5:25Speaker 2: bought way too many soundtracks in the last year. I mean,
- 5:29Speaker 2: not that I didn't already have a lot, but it's again,
- 5:33Speaker 2: they're CDs now and nobody cares about CDs. So they're
- 5:35Speaker 2: just giving them away. So every time we're out looking
- 5:38Speaker 2: at books, I don't want to look at books because
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't know how to read. So I'm overlooking at CDs.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And I'm just like, I don't have this soundtrack. I
- 5:45Speaker 2: don't have this soundtrack. I've only bought duplicates a couple
- 5:48Speaker 2: of times. I need to start cataloging them is the
- 5:50Speaker 2: sad thing. It's gotten to that point now. But yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 2: I've just loaded up on so many. And I think
- 5:56Speaker 2: I also mentioned on that last music episode, again, it's CDs.
- 6:00Speaker 2: So when was the heyday of CDs?
- 6:02Speaker 11: The 90s.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And then as I started listening, I was like, oh,
- 6:06Speaker 2: there is such a 90s sound. And I don't think
- 6:09Speaker 2: I realized it when I was knee deep in it.
- 6:11Speaker 2: But now you got a little... little time behind you
- 6:14Speaker 2: and it's just wow these are all very 90s-esque so
- 6:20Speaker 2: I decided we need to put together this music episode
- 6:23Speaker 2: entitled could this be more 90s I think that's the
- 6:28Speaker 2: best way to encapsulate all right so I'm gonna start
- 6:33Speaker 2: things off with the soundtrack that gave me the idea
- 6:37Speaker 2: the one that made me think as I specifically put
- 6:41Speaker 2: it in the CD player and went oh wow I
- 6:43Speaker 2: forgot about this sound, these bands, all of the above.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Empire Records.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 6: We watched that not that long ago.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I don't know if I'd say it holds up, because
- 6:57Speaker 2: I remember even at the time going, this is far
- 7:00Speaker 2: from a perfect movie. It's got such high points that
- 7:04Speaker 2: it makes up for some of the shoddy stuff along
- 7:07Speaker 2: the way.
- 7:08Speaker 6: I feel like that was all movies in the 90s, though.
- 7:10Speaker 6: All indie movies, they didn't quite... Like, indie movie was just, like,
- 7:15Speaker 6: a bad comedy, basically. That's all indie movies were.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Well, it was indie because they couldn't afford a budget
- 7:21Speaker 2: to do, like, a giant sci-fi space adventure. But, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 2: standing around talking to a bunch of idiots, you know,
- 7:27Speaker 2: that's pretty cheap, so.
- 7:28Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I don't know. This one I feel like was pretty
- 7:30Speaker 2: well financed for, I mean, it had a semi-recognizable cast,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and one or two of them got much bigger as
- 7:36Speaker 2: time went on, but.
- 7:38Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. I figured this one, we'd kick
- 7:41Speaker 2: it off with, Again, very quintessential 90s. The Gin Blossoms.
- 7:46Speaker 6: I knew.
- 7:52Speaker 14: You were going to say.
- 8:05Speaker 18: That.
- 8:05Speaker 19: I didn't ask, you shouldn't have told me. First I'd
- 8:10Speaker 19: laugh but now It's sinking in fast Whatever's on me
- 8:17Speaker 19: Well baby I don't wanna take advice from fools I'll.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Just figure everything is.
- 8:25Speaker 14: Cool Until I hear it from you.
- 8:36Speaker 20: It gets hard The memories fade in.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Who gets what they say?
- 8:43Speaker 19: It's likely they're just jealous and cheated. Maybe I don't
- 8:49Speaker 19: want to take advice from fools. I just think everything
- 8:55Speaker 19: is cool until I hear it from you.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Until I hear it.
- 9:05Speaker 5: From you.
- 9:14Speaker 19: I can't let it get me up Or break up
- 9:18Speaker 19: my train of thought.
- 9:21Speaker 20: As far as I know nothing's wrong Until I hear.
- 9:27Speaker 4: It from you guitar solo.
- 9:52Speaker 19: Still thinking about not living without it Outside looking in
- 10:00Speaker 19: Till we're talking about Not stepping around.
- 10:04Speaker 20: It Maybe I don't wanna take advice from fools I
- 10:13Speaker 20: just figure everything.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Is cool Until I.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Hear it from.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Damn the man!
- 11:28Speaker 2: Save the empire!
- 11:29Speaker 6: Did Philip tell you that he went to a random
- 11:32Speaker 6: Oktoberfest and the Gin Blossoms just happened to be playing?
- 11:36Speaker 2: As they should. I would like them to just turn
- 11:38Speaker 2: up at anything that I, you know, any random event,
- 11:41Speaker 2: any trip to the grocery. I'd like just the Gin Blossoms.
- 11:43Speaker 6: And then that happened to him again. Like, they went
- 11:45Speaker 6: somewhere else. Who was it that played the second time
- 11:47Speaker 6: they went somewhere? It was like a random show.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Oh.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Third Eye Blind?
- 11:50Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I don't know. Which is on several of these soundtracks
- 11:54Speaker 2: I have in front of me here.
- 11:56Speaker 19: But.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I might not go down that road. I listened
- 11:59Speaker 2: to some Third Eye Blind and I remembered why I
- 12:01Speaker 2: was never into Third Eye Blind.
- 12:02Speaker 6: I like that one song, the Ledge Jumper song, a
- 12:05Speaker 6: whole lot.
- 12:08Speaker 2: But for now, we're sticking with the Jim Blathoms.
- 12:12Speaker 6: That's a good one, but Hey Jealousy is really my favorite.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Hey Jealousy is kind of badass, but actually if you
- 12:18Speaker 2: look at the inside sleeve of that album, the Hey
- 12:25Speaker 2: Jealousy album, Whatever the hell. I have that somewhere. I'm
- 12:28Speaker 2: trying to remember what the name of it was. But
- 12:31Speaker 2: the inside sleeve, there's a picture of them in the
- 12:33Speaker 2: parking lot of a CD shop in Louisville, Kentucky. Oh.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Fun fact. Are they from Louisville?
- 12:40Speaker 8: No.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 12:41Speaker 2: And I don't think they had any... They were just
- 12:43Speaker 2: coming through town back before they... Again, they were... They
- 12:46Speaker 2: maybe even put another album out before that one. But
- 12:49Speaker 2: before they got signed to the big label, they then
- 12:51Speaker 2: put out the big album that they became known for
- 12:54Speaker 2: for the rest of their lives. They were just touring
- 12:56Speaker 2: through town like the six months before that. And they're
- 13:00Speaker 2: in that parking lot, which is now a coffee shop,
- 13:02Speaker 2: of course, with a bumper sticker of the CD shop
- 13:07Speaker 2: in their mouth. And it's on the inside of the CD.
- 13:11Speaker 6: So you're ecstasy?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 10: Oh, okay.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I'd plug them, but they're bankrupt now, like all former
- 13:16Speaker 2: CD shops.
- 13:17Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. No, because it's funny because all CD and
- 13:21Speaker 6: record shops closed only to come back again.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Well, all music stores closed down because they had CDs
- 13:29Speaker 2: in them. And then two years later, all of a
- 13:32Speaker 2: sudden it became super cool to have records. Because that's
- 13:36Speaker 2: what happened to that one. We went to the Vinyl
- 13:41Speaker 2: Fest thing a couple of years ago. And the guy
- 13:43Speaker 2: who ran that CD shop was there. And they were like,
- 13:47Speaker 2: it is kind of weird now that there's all these
- 13:49Speaker 2: record shops, you know. A couple of years after you
- 13:51Speaker 2: went bankrupt, all of a sudden all these new record
- 13:53Speaker 2: shops popped up around town. And he's like, ah, it's okay.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I think he was just ready. He's another one of
- 13:59Speaker 2: those business owners that you've done it for 20, 25 years.
- 14:02Speaker 2: He's just like, I was ready. I was okay with it.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Kind of exactly how Todd was about Wild and Wooly closing.
- 14:11Speaker 2: The local video store, which went through pretty much the
- 14:13Speaker 2: same scenario.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like it doesn't matter if CDs and... And
- 14:17Speaker 6: VHS tapes come back full force. Like, I don't want
- 14:19Speaker 6: to do this anymore.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I think he did though. I still, I see Todd
- 14:24Speaker 2: a couple of times, maybe about once a week now.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And like, he's, I still feel like it's like, it's
- 14:30Speaker 2: a whole, like, I think he was so, I think
- 14:32Speaker 2: he loved that lifestyle that they built. And like those
- 14:36Speaker 2: people were some really amazing people and they'd worked there
- 14:39Speaker 2: for so long. So I think, I think that one's
- 14:41Speaker 2: a little different just because he had such a nice
- 14:44Speaker 2: little scenario built around that store and that, the whole
- 14:48Speaker 2: movie lifestyle and like it had a good run and
- 14:52Speaker 2: it's it kind of sucks like there is a weird
- 14:54Speaker 2: i even saw something yesterday that was a post on
- 14:57Speaker 2: facebook about like sort of a resurgence in video stores
- 15:01Speaker 2: and i don't know if new ones were opening but
- 15:03Speaker 2: they were pinning down like the ones that are still
- 15:05Speaker 2: around and still fighting and so i'm like again it's
- 15:09Speaker 2: a weird world we live in i mean nobody would
- 15:11Speaker 2: have ever expected the record thing as it is now
- 15:14Speaker 2: so maybe it's crazy The VHS collector's market will get
- 15:18Speaker 2: so overwhelming that they'll have to bring back rental stores
- 15:21Speaker 2: with VHS tapes.
- 15:23Speaker 6: I don't see that happening. Everything comes back around.
- 15:26Speaker 2: You never know. Maybe you'll have to go to the
- 15:30Speaker 2: store to pick out what you want to go stream
- 15:31Speaker 2: at home.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Is that going to happen?
- 15:35Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 15:36Speaker 2: That seems very complicated and inconvenient.
- 15:40Speaker 6: I get the ease and convenience of ordering stuff online,
- 15:43Speaker 6: but I just like I don't like staying in the
- 15:48Speaker 6: house all the time. I don't go to Target because
- 15:51Speaker 6: I need stuff. I go because I'm bored. That's 99%
- 15:56Speaker 6: of the time that I go to a store. It's
- 15:57Speaker 6: just because I'm bored. And I enjoy shopping and looking
- 16:02Speaker 6: at stuff and feeling something in my hand before I
- 16:04Speaker 6: buy it. I don't know. Online shopping is not fun
- 16:08Speaker 6: for me.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I just like the loitering around, especially in video stores.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I just used to go there. Like there was one
- 16:16Speaker 2: when I, one of my first jobs, I was like
- 16:19Speaker 2: a parking lot over was a, it was a boring
- 16:22Speaker 2: chain video store, but they had a decent little cult section.
- 16:26Speaker 2: And I remember like on my lunch, I usually was
- 16:29Speaker 2: broke and I didn't have money to eat. So I
- 16:31Speaker 2: would like, most days of the week would go over
- 16:34Speaker 2: to that video store and just loiter around for like
- 16:38Speaker 2: a half hour and be like, oh, look at this one.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I don't think I've seen this one before.
- 16:41Speaker 6: And they're like, it's that fucking weird guy from next
- 16:43Speaker 6: door who never rents anything.
- 16:43Speaker 2: And I never rent anything because I had to go
- 16:45Speaker 2: back to work and I had to be back up
- 16:46Speaker 2: and back at work the next morning. So it's like,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I rarely would rent anything until I got to like
- 16:51Speaker 2: the weekend. But the other four or five days of
- 16:53Speaker 2: the week, I'd be like, yeah, look at this one.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And they're like, oh my God, rent something, you idiot.
- 16:59Speaker 2: But again, it was just the loitering around the video
- 17:01Speaker 2: store and like, geeks like to do their homework and
- 17:04Speaker 2: like you're just like oh look at this one there's
- 17:06Speaker 2: another I've never seen the evil Jed I'll have to
- 17:09Speaker 2: rent that someday little did you know you know so
- 17:13Speaker 2: look at these weird John Waters movies what the hell
- 17:15Speaker 2: are these so it's like it's only that kind of
- 17:18Speaker 2: well again now I guess you can fall down whatever
- 17:20Speaker 2: rabbit hole on the internet and find your way there
- 17:22Speaker 2: but like back in the day it took like hanging
- 17:24Speaker 2: out in a weird video store in like a record
- 17:27Speaker 2: shop kind of thing to discover your weird little niche stuff.
- 17:30Speaker 6: And I remember those days. Like, I was on the
- 17:34Speaker 6: cusp of that, really. But, like, I mean, I remember
- 17:38Speaker 6: when I was a teenager and there was a Hollywood
- 17:40Speaker 6: video next door to my apartment. And I would go
- 17:42Speaker 6: and they had, like, a weird cult section, like you said.
- 17:45Speaker 6: And that's where I discovered, like, Metropolis and Eating Raoul
- 17:48Speaker 6: and Cecil B. Demented, which, like, led me down a
- 17:51Speaker 6: John Waters rabbit hole myself.
- 17:54Speaker 21: And I.
- 17:56Speaker 6: Don't even remember all the weird things I rented. But
- 17:58Speaker 6: I rented, like, all the weird movies, like.
- 18:00Speaker 2: We had a couple of them that had a really good, again,
- 18:03Speaker 2: there was one that I think technically was a chain,
- 18:06Speaker 2: but like it had been run independently by people like
- 18:10Speaker 2: for years. So like they built up this massive cult
- 18:13Speaker 2: section that like to this day, I think of some
- 18:17Speaker 2: of the stuff I was like, I mean, they had
- 18:19Speaker 2: a copy of necromaniac just sitting on the shelf in
- 18:22Speaker 2: the middle of this strip mall. You know, it was like,
- 18:24Speaker 2: it was the most boring area of the world, but
- 18:26Speaker 2: like they had the weirdest cult stuff in there. And
- 18:29Speaker 2: I'm just like, That was their fan base. People used
- 18:32Speaker 2: to come there just for that kind of stuff, basically.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Moving on in time. Back to the 90s. Okay, so
- 18:43Speaker 2: we can't not. I mean, the tagline on Reality Bites
- 18:47Speaker 2: is a comedy about love in the 90s. It says
- 18:52Speaker 2: 90s on the poster, which was another weird thing I remember.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Remember how everything was like, hey, it's the 90s. I
- 19:00Speaker 2: don't even really remember people saying that in the 80s.
- 19:02Speaker 2: You certainly didn't say.
- 19:04Speaker 6: It's the aughts, yo. The 90s were so self-aware. When
- 19:07Speaker 6: people lived in the 2000s, they weren't just like, it's
- 19:11Speaker 6: the 2000s. And I only heard the word aughts recently.
- 19:15Speaker 6: I've only recently heard people start referring to it.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I always called it the zeros myself.
- 19:19Speaker 6: Yeah, people were like, what do we call this weird decade?
- 19:21Speaker 2: It's a whole bunch of zeros. Whatever I'm saying. So
- 19:26Speaker 2: I was thinking, though, I was like, this one, it
- 19:29Speaker 2: had a lot of big hits and a superstar that
- 19:32Speaker 2: might have been on this very show. We won't play her, though.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I was like, we already had a bit.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Janine Garofalo?
- 19:38Speaker 2: I wish. I've tried. If I can get Janine, she
- 19:40Speaker 2: is free to come on the show anytime.
- 19:43Speaker 4: Lisa Love, though.
- 19:44Speaker 6: Oh, Lisa Love was on the show?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, cool. We're super cool.
- 19:48Speaker 6: Yeah. I mean, Jennifer Lawrence was on the show. I mean,
- 19:54Speaker 6: Gilmore Girls, the new Gilmore Girls, they're like, we need
- 19:56Speaker 6: to bag Jennifer Lawrence! And I was just like, movie meltdown?
- 20:00Speaker 4: Did.
- 20:00Speaker 2: We already did that.
- 20:01Speaker 6: In your face, Gilmores.
- 20:04Speaker 2: But if either of the Rorys would like to come
- 20:06Speaker 2: on the show, they're also invited.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I will take either.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I don't even remember the soundtrack of reality bites, but
- 20:13Speaker 6: it's again.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And that's the thing. The, the one that my go-to,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I can't hear it now and not, you know, think
- 20:20Speaker 2: about dancing around in a gas station, but I'm not
- 20:23Speaker 2: going to go to it. Cause that, that isn't even
- 20:25Speaker 2: from the nineties. That's an older song. And so I
- 20:27Speaker 2: was trying to find like, cause we already played like
- 20:29Speaker 2: a band. So the more I looked at these, I
- 20:30Speaker 2: was like, there's a lot of bands that are just like,
- 20:34Speaker 2: 90s bands and they really didn't expand much out of
- 20:36Speaker 2: the 90s and this was one that they're still around
- 20:40Speaker 2: but I didn't come in contact with them until the
- 20:43Speaker 2: 90s came along and this is a song by Dinosaur Jr. Which, again,
- 20:48Speaker 2: I was not familiar with, but I swear I think
- 20:50Speaker 2: they just toured here in this past year.
- 20:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 2: So they're still out there.
- 20:54Speaker 6: I know the name and I know I know their songs,
- 20:56Speaker 6: but it's not ringing any bells in my mind.
- 20:58Speaker 2: This one won't either. I think this was like a
- 21:00Speaker 2: weird bonus track that they weren't using on their album
- 21:03Speaker 2: that got thrown onto the soundtrack, which is how they
- 21:05Speaker 2: usually do soundtracks. So this is Turnip Farm.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely not ringing a bell.
- 21:10Speaker 2: By Dinosaur Jr.
- 21:59Speaker 14: Come on with me and tell me all about it
- 22:01Speaker 14: I'm the heat and the feel, you're the brand, hold me.
- 22:04Speaker 11: On Oh, come on with me.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Tell me now. Tell me now. I'm needing to feel you.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Tell me now. Tell me now. Just come on.
- 23:30Speaker 6: Tell me all about it Come with me Tell me
- 23:32Speaker 6: all about it.
- 23:53Speaker 14: Please don't leave me.
- 24:01Speaker 11: Not like this.
- 24:02Speaker 14: What about all that you've done?
- 24:08Speaker 4: Done it all and what a waste. I don't want.
- 24:14Speaker 14: This rage in this place.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Please don't leave me not.
- 24:22Speaker 22: Cause it's brutal, can't forget Nothing else we could have
- 24:32Speaker 22: done Still it's killing me.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Tell me all about it. I need it to feel you, but.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I won't get on without it.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Come on with me.
- 25:20Speaker 5: Tell me all about it. Thank you.
- 25:59Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 26:56Speaker 11: You see, Lainey, this is all we need.
- 27:01Speaker 17: A couple of smokes, a cup of coffee, and a
- 27:05Speaker 17: little bit of conversation.
- 27:08Speaker 2: You and me and five bucks.
- 27:10Speaker 4: You got it.

- 28:31Speaker 13: products they have to offer.
- 28:35Speaker 6: You better have the crow soundtracked in that bag.
- 28:37Speaker 2: That's a very different vibe. And not that I haven't
- 28:41Speaker 2: used it on several. We've already played at least.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Two, maybe three songs off that soundtrack in previous episodes.
- 28:49Speaker 17: I love that soundtrack.
- 28:49Speaker 2: But this is like, again, because there were one or
- 28:52Speaker 2: two other ones that I was like, we're going to,
- 28:54Speaker 2: I think we're going to get, I want to at
- 28:56Speaker 2: least spell that out because people are just going to
- 28:58Speaker 2: be like, oh, but you didn't play. And I'm like, okay,
- 29:00Speaker 2: there's so many other weird little avenues that I'm not
- 29:02Speaker 2: going to go down.
- 29:03Speaker 6: Like, again, this was like the light, not necessarily lighthearted
- 29:06Speaker 6: because I wouldn't call reality bites lighthearted, but like weird
- 29:09Speaker 6: coming of age kind of like comedy, sad comedies.
- 29:15Speaker 2: There's also like you can go down the massive hole
- 29:20Speaker 2: that is, you know, the grunge thing. There was plenty
- 29:24Speaker 2: of that that came in. There was also a much
- 29:27Speaker 2: heavier end that came. So I was like, those are
- 29:30Speaker 2: all in one or two of them I'm actually going
- 29:32Speaker 2: to do separate. There's plenty of rap and hip-hop that
- 29:37Speaker 2: came out in the 90s. That's its own episode. Don't
- 29:40Speaker 2: you worry. I'm working on a special episode for those, too.
- 29:45Speaker 2: There's several of them I might not hit. You're like,
- 29:47Speaker 2: how the hell did you not play this? It's all
- 29:49Speaker 2: in the works. Don't worry. I also got to that
- 29:54Speaker 2: same thing with the cable guy today. That is a
- 29:58Speaker 2: heavy soundtrack for a I'm using air quotes here.
- 30:02Speaker 6: The one with Jim Carrey?
- 30:03Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Well, I mean, it's a dark comedy.
- 30:05Speaker 6: I've never seen it.
- 30:06Speaker 2: It took a lot of heat at the time for
- 30:08Speaker 2: being as dark and weird as it was.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And the soundtrack is equally as much. I'm like, it's
- 30:14Speaker 2: a weird, dark soundtrack. So I'm just like. I'm going
- 30:17Speaker 2: to work that in, but that's a different mode. I'm
- 30:20Speaker 2: saving that one for later.
- 30:21Speaker 6: So I don't think I, I just thought cable guy
- 30:23Speaker 6: was like dumb. I thought it was like Ace Ventura.
- 30:25Speaker 6: I never bothered.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Like, I mean, yes. And yeah, it's actually a little bit,
- 30:30Speaker 2: speaking of reality bites, it's directed by Ben Stiller. And
- 30:33Speaker 2: he's like, I realized over the years, he's actually a
- 30:36Speaker 2: good director. Like he's as an actor taking some really
- 30:40Speaker 2: super mainstream stuff. And like, I don't like a lot
- 30:43Speaker 2: of it, but like the handful of stuff he's directed or,
- 30:47Speaker 2: pretty good actually i.
- 30:48Speaker 6: Mean that's how i feel about jim carrey he's a
- 30:50Speaker 6: brilliant like deep dark movie actor you know like.
- 30:55Speaker 2: He wants to be more deep and dark than he
- 30:57Speaker 2: probably is like he just wants to be taken seriously
- 31:01Speaker 2: so much.
- 31:02Speaker 6: I mean eternal sunshine the spotless mind was so good
- 31:05Speaker 6: and so was the truman show and yeah.
- 31:07Speaker 2: He's a great actor but again it's like It went
- 31:09Speaker 2: through that era of he was just so dying to
- 31:12Speaker 2: get an Oscar.
- 31:13Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 2: And I don't know, maybe he's gotten out of that
- 31:15Speaker 2: now because it's been so long. Maybe the novelty's worn off.
- 31:18Speaker 6: Did he ever get one?
- 31:20Speaker 2: No. Not so far. Maybe he's still waiting to turn
- 31:23Speaker 2: in that amazing performance. But If I Love You, Philip
- 31:27Speaker 2: Morris didn't do it, which is really good, by the way.
- 31:30Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 31:31Speaker 2: He's really good at that.
- 31:32Speaker 11: We saw that.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Ewan McGregor's even better, really. He's really good at it.
- 31:37Speaker 11: All right.
- 31:37Speaker 2: What have we got? Cruel Intentions. This is another one
- 31:43Speaker 2: I got, and just because I remember, I really like
- 31:47Speaker 2: the movie. For all its tawdry soap opera bullshit, it's
- 31:53Speaker 2: pretty damn fun. It knows what it is, and it's
- 31:56Speaker 2: supposed to be that cheesy. But then I started playing
- 31:59Speaker 2: the soundtrack, and I'm like, wow, this is just knee-deep 90s.
- 32:03Speaker 2: There's no two ways about it. There's some Marcy's Playground
- 32:07Speaker 2: on here. Oh, my God.
- 32:08Speaker 6: I love Marcy's Playground.
- 32:10Speaker 2: You can't get more 90s. But, yeah, this one kicks
- 32:15Speaker 2: off with Placebo, which is pretty damn good. I'm going
- 32:19Speaker 2: with this is Every You, Every Me, parentheses, single mix.
- 32:25Speaker 13: I've got to specify.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Don't want to mix that up.
- 32:27Speaker 9: Whoa.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Whoa.
- 32:43Speaker 24: Sucker, love is heaven sent You pucker up our passion
- 32:49Speaker 24: spent My heart's a tart, your body's rent My body's broken,
- 32:55Speaker 24: yours is bent Carve your name into my arm Instead
- 33:01Speaker 24: of stressed, I lie here charmed.
- 33:03Speaker 25: Cause there's nothing else to do Every me.
- 33:10Speaker 24: And every you Sucker love, a box.
- 33:14Speaker 7: I choose No other box I choose to use Another
- 33:20Speaker 7: love I would abuse No circumstances could excuse In the.
- 33:27Speaker 8: Shape of things to come Too much poison come undone
- 33:34Speaker 8: Cause there's nothing else to do Every me and every
- 33:43Speaker 8: you Every me and.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Every you Every me.
- 33:47Speaker 24: Sucker love who's known to swing Prone to cling and
- 33:53Speaker 24: waste these things.
- 33:55Speaker 7: Hook her up for heaven's sake There's never been so
- 34:00Speaker 7: much at stake.
- 34:02Speaker 26: I serve my head up on a plate It's only
- 34:07Speaker 26: comfort calling late Cause there's nothing else to do Every
- 34:14Speaker 26: me and every you Every.
- 34:17Speaker 25: Me And every you, every me, me Every me and
- 34:26Speaker 25: every you, every me.
- 34:30Speaker 8: Me Like the naked leads the blind I know I'm selfish,
- 34:37Speaker 8: I'm unkind.
- 34:38Speaker 24: Sucker love, I always find someone to breathe.
- 34:46Speaker 27: All alone in space and time There's nothing here but
- 34:53Speaker 27: what here's mine Something borrowed, something.
- 34:58Speaker 16: Blue Every me and every you Every me and every
- 35:06Speaker 16: you Every me Every me and every you Every me
- 35:16Speaker 16: Every me and every you Every me and every you
- 35:27Speaker 16: Every me and every you.
- 35:33Speaker 14: Every me and every.
- 35:39Speaker 6: You I would listen to Marcy's Playground right now if
- 35:58Speaker 6: I could.
- 35:59Speaker 2: You just like candy.
- 36:00Speaker 6: No, that's not even a song that I like that much.
- 36:02Speaker 6: I mean, I do like that song. That's a great song, but....
- 36:06Speaker 2: There's so many bands, and I brought this up on
- 36:08Speaker 2: a recent episode. There's so many bands that I know
- 36:11Speaker 2: specifically because they will just hit a run of soundtracks. Yeah. And, like,
- 36:15Speaker 2: this is a bunch of the... I mean, it's... blur
- 36:18Speaker 2: and the verb like all these like and amy man
- 36:22Speaker 2: back when she was still still trying to break out
- 36:24Speaker 2: as a solo artist oh all right what else have
- 36:27Speaker 2: we got here oh this one i figured you would
- 36:30Speaker 2: like this one specifically because it's got everybody's everybody's favorite
- 36:34Speaker 2: america sweetheart melissa joan hart in drive me.
- 36:39Speaker 6: Crazy oh my gosh i don't even remember that Nobody does.
- 36:44Speaker 2: What's sad is probably, and that's why I thought it
- 36:47Speaker 2: was funny, probably the biggest thing about this was they
- 36:50Speaker 2: tied it in with the, at the time, new single,
- 36:56Speaker 2: Drive Me Crazy, from Miss Britney Spears. Don't worry, guys.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I'm not going to play that one. But it's funny.
- 37:02Speaker 2: That video was probably way bigger than this movie, which
- 37:06Speaker 2: is where it came from. I think she even had
- 37:09Speaker 2: a little cameo at the end of the video. They
- 37:10Speaker 2: worked in- All these little crossover, and sadly, okay, now
- 37:15Speaker 2: I'm also remembering a Britney Spears special guest appearance on
- 37:19Speaker 2: Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Really?
- 37:20Speaker 2: So they were really working this hard as their big
- 37:23Speaker 2: crossover event of the year, and yeah, nobody remembers this movie.
- 37:28Speaker 2: This poor bastard.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Mm-mm.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Isn't he on the- Entourage? Yeah, he's on Entourage now.
- 37:33Speaker 2: He's Mr. Entourage superstar now.
- 37:35Speaker 6: Well, not now, because Entourage has been over for forever,
- 37:38Speaker 6: except for that movie that came out, but- No, I
- 37:41Speaker 6: didn't either.
- 37:42Speaker 2: It's another one of those shows I'm like, yeah, I
- 37:43Speaker 2: hear a lot about. I'll get to it later.
- 37:45Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 2: But yeah, looking down the line here, I was just like, again,
- 37:49Speaker 2: here's another. Jars of Clay. How often do you hear
- 37:51Speaker 2: that these days?
- 37:52Speaker 6: I forgot about Jars of Clay. Aren't they like a
- 37:53Speaker 6: Christian band or am I imagining that?
- 37:55Speaker 2: It might have been another one of those. They came
- 37:57Speaker 2: from that and then they went, oh, we can make
- 37:59Speaker 2: more money being a little more mainstream. Let's do that.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Like what's that other popular Christian band?
- 38:04Speaker 2: The Lifehouse was like that.
- 38:05Speaker 17: Skillet.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Skillet, yeah.
- 38:07Speaker 6: Skillet Heads. I remember reading about skillet heads, and this
- 38:11Speaker 6: is how old I am, in my Young and Modern magazine,
- 38:15Speaker 6: my YM.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Y & Ms? Yeah. I get a subscription to that now.
- 38:20Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 38:22Speaker 6: No, I'm pretty sure it's been out of publication for
- 38:24Speaker 6: the last 20 years, but good try.
- 38:26Speaker 2: I get mine at the library.
- 38:28Speaker 17: It's okay, guys.
- 38:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:31Speaker 2: So, yeah, I was rolling down the names here, and
- 38:33Speaker 2: I was like, Plum. I kind of remember that. Not
- 38:37Speaker 2: Eve's Plum. That was a different name.
- 38:38Speaker 6: I was going to say, I remember Eve's Plum.
- 38:40Speaker 2: That was sort of a 2000-esque band.
- 38:43Speaker 6: Are you confusing them with Eve's Six?
- 38:45Speaker 2: No, another band. There's a little of everything going on there.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Didn't you see Eve's Six play once? I did.
- 38:52Speaker 6: Matt saw Eve's Six play once.
- 38:53Speaker 1: They're pretty damn good.
- 38:55Speaker 2: What? I'm trying to remember the Eve's Six one.
- 38:58Speaker 6: They're a little heavier, aren't they? Swallow my doubt, turn
- 39:04Speaker 6: it inside out. Find nothing but faith in nothing. Want
- 39:08Speaker 6: to put my tender heart in a blender. Watch it
- 39:11Speaker 6: spin around to a beautiful oblivion.
- 39:13Speaker 12: That song.
- 39:15Speaker 2: That's one of those, because I complain about this, it's
- 39:18Speaker 2: sort of our, probably the best local radio station we have,
- 39:21Speaker 2: but I have a lot of issues with them lately,
- 39:23Speaker 2: because that is one of those, like, they don't fall
- 39:26Speaker 2: into the thing of, like, super mainstream, like, regular radio
- 39:30Speaker 2: rock where they have 10 songs that they play over
- 39:32Speaker 2: and over. But they still have about 50 songs and
- 39:35Speaker 2: they play those same 50 songs every day. And that's
- 39:37Speaker 2: still one that they play almost daily.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Really?
- 39:41Speaker 6: That is so weird.
- 39:42Speaker 2: And it was one of those, like, I know that song,
- 39:44Speaker 2: and I couldn't have told you that that was the
- 39:46Speaker 2: band that did it.
- 39:46Speaker 6: No one, I mean, no one in 2016 is like, oh, man,
- 39:50Speaker 6: I can't wait to hear that Eve Six song.
- 39:52Speaker 2: That's what I don't understand, though. Like, they have, like,
- 39:54Speaker 2: so many songs that are like that, that are like...
- 39:57Speaker 2: You don't know the band or they only had the
- 40:00Speaker 2: one song and like they will play it every day.
- 40:02Speaker 2: And I'm like, really? Are people really dying to hear
- 40:05Speaker 2: this again?
- 40:06Speaker 6: Maybe like once a year on the lead singer's birthday
- 40:08Speaker 6: or something.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but they have such a handful of like, I
- 40:13Speaker 2: guess their favorites. And they just like, all right, we're
- 40:15Speaker 2: going to rock this out again today.
- 40:17Speaker 6: I bet Sean Cannon has something to do with that.
- 40:20Speaker 2: We'll blame him either way.
- 40:21Speaker 6: I don't even know if he works there still.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Let's blame him anyway.
- 40:25Speaker 6: Sean Cannon, it's your fault.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Oh, but none of those are this plum. That's the
- 40:32Speaker 2: other one we needed to work in. There was a
- 40:33Speaker 2: nice like surgence of girl rock coming into the 90s there.
- 40:39Speaker 4: L7.
- 40:39Speaker 2: No, not that. Again, that's more of the hard end.
- 40:44Speaker 2: I think they might have been on one of those
- 40:46Speaker 2: other ones earlier. So, yeah, we definitely have that coming in.
- 40:49Speaker 2: But this was like the like sort of stemming out
- 40:52Speaker 2: of the acoustic girl. Again, back to Lisa. But like
- 40:55Speaker 2: then you get a band because I think this is
- 40:57Speaker 2: like a girl that's fronting it. But she's got some
- 40:59Speaker 2: other guys with her. But it's coming out of like
- 41:01Speaker 2: the 80s. We had like the resurgence of the girl groups.
- 41:04Speaker 2: And then it was kind of cool to have a
- 41:05Speaker 2: girl group. And then by the 90s, it was like
- 41:07Speaker 2: it was just cool to have a girl in your group.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So, girls, it was safe to be in a rock
- 41:11Speaker 2: band all of a sudden.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:13Speaker 2: It's okay, girls. We encourage girls.
- 41:14Speaker 6: That's the female bass player phenomenon.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I've said that before, I believe. It's like, come on, girls,
- 41:21Speaker 2: learn to play drums or guitar or something.
- 41:23Speaker 6: Do other things. And then Meg White came along in
- 41:25Speaker 6: the late 90s and played drums. And then everybody just.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Bitched about her. Like, finally, we have a girl.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Oh, no, no.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Just get rid of her. People just complained about her
- 41:34Speaker 2: from day one. Poor Meg. I don't know where she
- 41:37Speaker 2: is these days.
- 41:38Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 41:38Speaker 6: Jack White's doing all right, though.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I hope he's still sending her checks or something.
- 41:43Speaker 6: Probably.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Here, just stay home and read your Y & Ms.
- 41:51Speaker 6: She probably has all of them from her youth.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Cataloged. So this is Plum with Stranded.
- 41:58Speaker 10: You know it only breaks my heart To see you
- 42:04Speaker 10: standing in the dark alone waiting there for me to
- 42:12Speaker 10: come back i'm too afraid to show it's coming over
- 42:16Speaker 10: you it's coming over me i'm crashing like.
- 42:18Speaker 14: A tire with the tracks we have to see and
- 42:21Speaker 14: i wanna.
- 42:23Speaker 10: Be with you you wanna.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Be with me i'm crashing.
- 42:29Speaker 4: Like a tire with the tracks we have to see.
- 42:39Speaker 14: Stranded, stranded, stranded, stranded, stranded, stranded.
- 42:50Speaker 10: Well, I can only take so much. These tears are
- 42:56Speaker 10: turning me to rust. I know you're waiting there for
- 43:03Speaker 10: me to come back. I'm too afraid to show.
- 43:09Speaker 24: It's coming over you.
- 43:11Speaker 14: Like it's coming over me.
- 43:13Speaker 4: I'm crashing like a tire. It drives me out to sea.
- 43:19Speaker 4: And I want to be with you. You want to
- 43:23Speaker 4: be with me. I'm crashing like a tire with you.
- 43:33Speaker 4: I miss you, I need you Without you, I'm stranded
- 43:35Speaker 4: I love you So come back, I'm not afraid to show.
- 44:03Speaker 10: It's coming over me, crashing like a tidal wave.
- 44:09Speaker 4: It drags me up to sea. I want to be
- 44:12Speaker 4: with you. You want to be with me. I'm crashing
- 44:15Speaker 4: like a tidal wave.
- 44:16Speaker 2: I don't want to be stranded.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I don't want to be stranded. Stand up. Stand up.
- 44:26Speaker 4: Stand up. Stand up. Stand up. Stand up. Stand up.
- 44:28Speaker 4: Stand up. Stand up. Stand up. So.
- 45:31Speaker 9: She makes me feel kind of funny.
- 45:33Speaker 11: Like when we used to climb the rope in gym class.
- 45:36Speaker 2: This is another one of those I got specifically because
- 45:38Speaker 2: it had just a bunch of random songs on it.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Still haven't seen this movie because I really don't care
- 45:44Speaker 2: about cheesy comedies or Drew Barrymore. In Never Been Kissed.
- 45:48Speaker 6: Drew Barrymore was so cool in the 90s.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Obviously, because she was in damn near every movie that
- 45:54Speaker 2: came out.
- 45:55Speaker 6: Like Crazy or Mad Love, I think maybe. Mad Love.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Riding Cars with Boys.
- 46:01Speaker 2: We might get to one of those in a minute. Anyway,
- 46:03Speaker 2: this one though.
- 46:04Speaker 6: Is this the one where she pretends to go back
- 46:06Speaker 6: to high school?
- 46:07Speaker 2: Even though she's like 48. Yes. And somehow nobody noticed.
- 46:11Speaker 6: I love movies like this.
- 46:12Speaker 2: The logic of comedies.
- 46:15Speaker 6: It's such a ridiculous.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Okay, 21 Jump Street. I'm sure nobody will know.
- 46:19Speaker 6: It's such a ridiculous plot, but it's so common. Give
- 46:23Speaker 6: it a year and there'll be another movie where it's
- 46:25Speaker 6: just like, all right, you've got to go back to school.
- 46:28Speaker 6: You've got to go back to high school.
- 46:31Speaker 2: So again, the bands that only existed in the 90s.
- 46:35Speaker 2: This is Never You Mind from Semisonic.
- 47:02Speaker 28: All night in a cat fight with the only one
- 47:06Speaker 28: who can make me cry. Open the blind and the
- 47:11Speaker 28: world is in rotation. Shaking my mind like an ad
- 47:16Speaker 28: just got to racing.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Sunshine, you were bad.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I'm still mad.
- 47:22Speaker 28: But I can't remember why.
- 47:25Speaker 14: I believe you know me well.
- 47:35Speaker 4: Bye.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Bye.
- 48:04Speaker 15: I believe you know me well I react like you're
- 48:09Speaker 15: ringing a bell Are you sorry that you treat me unkind?
- 48:19Speaker 15: Never you mind I believe I've got you.
- 48:24Speaker 28: Down You react like anybody else.
- 48:28Speaker 4: Around Some days it takes all.
- 48:41Speaker 12: My time guessing why I can't figure it out Some
- 48:50Speaker 12: days it takes all my energy just to.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Forget about All the memories that.
- 48:59Speaker 4: I'd be better off without.
- 49:05Speaker 3: I believe you know me well.
- 49:12Speaker 28: Switch on the box. Mr.
- 49:13Speaker 2: Spock is on the table.
- 49:20Speaker 28: Brain sweating and straining well it.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Seems so simple at the time.
- 49:26Speaker 14: I believe you know me well i react like you're ringing.
- 49:33Speaker 4: A bell are you sorry You react like anybody else around.
- 49:50Speaker 14: Are you sorry that we wasted our time?
- 49:55Speaker 3: Never you mind. Never you mind. Are you sorry? Never
- 50:04Speaker 3: you mind.
- 50:05Speaker 4: Are you sorry? Never you mind.
- 50:35Speaker 6: I feel like I had a CD by them at
- 50:37Speaker 6: one point, but I don't... Probably. I feel like I
- 50:39Speaker 6: maybe got it from the library because I meant to
- 50:42Speaker 6: get Sonic Youth instead.
- 50:44Speaker 2: It's kind of a different mode. Yeah.
- 50:47Speaker 6: Because I was like 12 and I was like, I'm
- 50:49Speaker 6: going to discover new music. And they had like... How'd
- 50:52Speaker 6: that work out for you? I mean, I got Marilyn
- 50:55Speaker 6: Manson's Antichrist Superstar from the library.
- 50:58Speaker 4: We're sorry.
- 50:59Speaker 6: No, actually, that's a good CD. I'll stand by that. Like,
- 51:02Speaker 6: I don't like.
- 51:04Speaker 6: Loudly and proudly like Marilyn Manson's music from the 90s
- 51:07Speaker 6: but I definitely did at the time and like I
- 51:10Speaker 6: still like feel a sense of nostalgia for it like.
- 51:13Speaker 2: I've gone several in the back in the day early
- 51:17Speaker 2: on for him I was kind of annoyed by him
- 51:19Speaker 2: because he was trying to be like he was just trying.
- 51:22Speaker 6: So hard to be weird yeah.
- 51:24Speaker 2: And I'm like I kind of call bullshit and then
- 51:27Speaker 2: it like it kind of got to a point of
- 51:29Speaker 2: like once I'm like okay wait this is a big
- 51:33Speaker 2: show Brian which is his name and I'm like so
- 51:38Speaker 2: when he finally like would get on talk shows and
- 51:40Speaker 2: be like a super dork which he is I'm just
- 51:43Speaker 2: like okay I'm kind of like it's almost 180 degree
- 51:47Speaker 2: like Alice Cooper turn where you realize oh Alice Cooper
- 51:49Speaker 2: is just a dude that plays golf and he's really
- 51:52Speaker 2: good at putting on this gothy show and I'm like
- 51:54Speaker 2: alright I might give you so like I've seen Marilyn
- 51:57Speaker 2: Manson live he did put on a good show so
- 52:00Speaker 2: I'm like alright I'll let it slide you're kind of
- 52:02Speaker 2: cool again And then he kind of ruined it all
- 52:05Speaker 2: the last couple of years when he showed up on
- 52:07Speaker 2: Talking Dead. And he was just out of it. He
- 52:10Speaker 2: was at best stoned.
- 52:12Speaker 6: Yeah, he's always messed up on drugs.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Maybe drunk, maybe on hardcore drugs. I don't know what all.
- 52:17Speaker 2: But he was annoying and obnoxious. And like, all right,
- 52:21Speaker 2: whatever cool points I gave you, I'm kind of taking back.
- 52:23Speaker 2: You're back to just being an idiot now. So he's
- 52:27Speaker 2: got to climb back out of the hole again.
- 52:28Speaker 6: Speaking of music-related... things from the 90s can we all
- 52:34Speaker 6: just take a second to appreciate that Chris Hardwick still
- 52:38Speaker 6: has like such a booming career.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Not only still has has gone from nothing like yeah
- 52:44Speaker 2: I wouldn't even say like I would say he would
- 52:46Speaker 2: even say he didn't have a real career in the
- 52:49Speaker 2: 90s yeah he was recognizable to a bunch of like
- 52:53Speaker 2: 14 to 22 year olds yeah but other than that
- 52:56Speaker 2: like he really wasn't a household name no And he
- 53:01Speaker 2: had the bad hair drapes.
- 53:02Speaker 6: But it was so in style.
- 53:06Speaker 2: As every cast member of Boy Meets World could prove
- 53:10Speaker 2: to us.
- 53:12Speaker 6: Except for the main characters.
- 53:16Speaker 2: What's his face?
- 53:17Speaker 6: The ones who have curly Jewish afros who couldn't.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Ben Savage.
- 53:23Speaker 6: Ben and Fred Savage were the curly Jewish afros who
- 53:25Speaker 6: could never have.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Fred's wasn't so bad. Ben's is pretty bad. To this day,
- 53:29Speaker 2: Ben's is still pretty bad.
- 53:29Speaker 6: Yeah, who could never have the floppy middle part thing.
- 53:33Speaker 6: I mean, I'm pretty sure you had that haircut at
- 53:35Speaker 6: one point. Something similar.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Mine was way too much product in it. So it
- 53:43Speaker 2: never actually laid enough to do that. It was always
- 53:46Speaker 2: too slick back. At some point, the guy I worked with,
- 53:50Speaker 2: his friend was convinced I was a vampire.
- 53:53Speaker 4: Why?
- 53:53Speaker 6: Because your hair never moved?
- 53:55Speaker 2: Yeah, because it was just like, it was a little
- 53:58Speaker 2: too slicked back, I guess, at that point. Thankfully, I
- 54:00Speaker 2: just shaved it all off now. I don't care.
- 54:02Speaker 6: That's one of the classic signs of a vampire.
- 54:05Speaker 2: That's a vampire move. You know, it's, yeah, you slick
- 54:08Speaker 2: your hair back, you are the undead. I mean, I
- 54:11Speaker 2: could have saved Marilyn a couple steps if he just
- 54:13Speaker 2: would have slicked his hair back. You're creepy, dude. But no,
- 54:16Speaker 2: we had to cut himself and drink blood and whatever
- 54:21Speaker 2: else he did on stage anyway so I don't remember
- 54:25Speaker 2: how we got to this point oh you were having
- 54:28Speaker 2: the Chris Hardwick flashback so yeah I will totally give
- 54:31Speaker 2: him credit that he has completely turned his life around
- 54:35Speaker 2: and I'll go ahead and say most of it is due.
- 54:39Speaker 6: To podcasting yeah yeah definitely and it kind of.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Pisses me off because I remember listening to his first
- 54:44Speaker 2: episode several years into my podcasting career so chris you
- 54:50Speaker 2: kind of i i'm a little.
- 54:51Speaker 6: Pissed i'm just and also it probably doesn't help that
- 54:53Speaker 6: he married a.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Well now he's now he doesn't have to worry.
- 54:57Speaker 6: Yeah now he's and it's also hilarious that he married
- 55:02Speaker 6: patty hearst's daughter like i love.
- 55:05Speaker 2: That heir to the fortune that owns most of his
- 55:08Speaker 2: country at this point yeah and always has really so Yeah, Lydia,
- 55:12Speaker 2: she seems pretty awesome too. So now that also makes
- 55:15Speaker 2: me kind of annoyed. I'm like, if at least she
- 55:17Speaker 2: wasn't even cool, she was like the lame, boring daughter
- 55:20Speaker 2: of the family. But now she's pretty damn cool.
- 55:22Speaker 6: Her mom is like a batshit insane. Like she has
- 55:25Speaker 6: to be a little bit like weird.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Maybe not. Sometimes you go entirely the opposite direction just
- 55:32Speaker 2: to get away from your weird parents. So she might
- 55:36Speaker 2: just be super cool.
- 55:38Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 55:39Speaker 2: So Lydia is pretty cool, I'm just saying.
- 55:41Speaker 6: Well, everyone named Lydia is. I only know one person
- 55:44Speaker 6: named Lydia, but she's my favorite person in the world.
- 55:49Speaker 2: All right. So the tangent from our congratulations to Chris Hardwick.
- 55:54Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 55:54Speaker 2: Back to your favorite gal. Here's your mad love soundtrack.
- 55:59Speaker 6: I don't remember the soundtrack. I just remember she was crazy. And, like, unstable,
- 56:03Speaker 6: and I thought that was so cool, and I just
- 56:05Speaker 6: wanted to be crazy and unstable, too.
- 56:07Speaker 5: You know this?
- 56:07Speaker 2: She played that in a lot of movies.
- 56:09Speaker 29: Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Maybe she wasn't acting so much.
- 56:12Speaker 6: No, she wasn't. I mean, I feel like she's very
- 56:16Speaker 6: grounded now, but she definitely was, like, a fucking insane
- 56:19Speaker 6: drug addict for.
- 56:20Speaker 3: A long time.
- 56:20Speaker 4: No, really.
- 56:21Speaker 2: As a child, she was, like. Literally. Yeah. She's like
- 56:25Speaker 2: eight doing cocaine in the back room of a party
- 56:29Speaker 2: doing God knows what else.
- 56:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 56:30Speaker 2: So yeah, she had a rough childhood. I'll let that part,
- 56:34Speaker 2: you know, I'll give her a break there. But yeah,
- 56:36Speaker 2: by the 90s, she was just like annoying girl in
- 56:39Speaker 2: so many movies.
- 56:40Speaker 6: I liked her in most movies. Like I thought she
- 56:43Speaker 6: was cute. I liked her look. Like I loved her
- 56:45Speaker 6: like thin eyebrows and her curly like yellow orange hair.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Again, at this point, it's the short, spiky look half
- 56:52Speaker 2: the time. She started doing that quite a bit.
- 56:54Speaker 6: That's true.
- 56:55Speaker 2: She was in a little too much of everything for
- 56:57Speaker 2: a while there. But, doesn't mean we can't find something
- 57:01Speaker 2: useful on this soundtrack.
- 57:03Speaker 6: I mean, everybody goes through that. As an actor, I
- 57:05Speaker 6: feel like there comes a time when people literally can't
- 57:07Speaker 6: make a movie without you. Natalie Portman, Jessica Chastain, Jude Law,
- 57:11Speaker 6: Jennifer Lawrence, like anybody.
- 57:14Speaker 2: You hit your little runs. And then, ten years will
- 57:17Speaker 2: go by and you'll be like, oh, remember when I
- 57:19Speaker 2: was the hot actress? I'm like, damn, that's over with.
- 57:22Speaker 2: That happens pretty quick. Does not take long.
- 57:26Speaker 6: I mean, no one wants to watch a coming-of-age story
- 57:30Speaker 6: about a 40-year-old lady.
- 57:32Speaker 10: You know?
- 57:33Speaker 2: Hey, you leave Bridget Jones out of this.
- 57:35Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know. I really want to see
- 57:36Speaker 6: that movie with Sally Fields and the guy from New Girl.
- 57:40Speaker 6: I keep meaning to watch that.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Doris.
- 57:43Speaker 6: Doris, yeah.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I hear she's really good at it.
- 57:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 57:46Speaker 2: So again, you can play that. You just got to
- 57:48Speaker 2: find the right script. It's all about top quality product
- 57:52Speaker 2: and not just hacky nonsense. Speaking of which.
- 57:58Speaker 6: So what song is on this one?
- 58:00Speaker 2: Oh, we'll skip the rocket from the crypt. We'll go
- 58:04Speaker 2: up here to, oh, here we go. Another girl rock
- 58:09Speaker 2: action here. This is Matter Rose with Ultra Anxiety.
- 58:15Speaker 6: I literally have no idea what that one is.
- 58:17Speaker 17: Oh, wait.
- 58:18Speaker 2: Parentheses. Teenage style.
- 58:21Speaker 6: Oh, teenage style anxiety. pick yourself up catch your trailer
- 58:51Speaker 6: to my wagon talking.
- 58:53Speaker 4: At least just be.
- 58:54Speaker 14: Bragging while away till all's forgiven everything comes down for
- 59:02Speaker 14: a little while Just to see you smile Everything's alright.
- 59:12Speaker 4: Only for a while Just to see you smile Got
- 59:14Speaker 4: your sweetheart at all stages.
- 59:48Speaker 14: Just to see you smile.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Everything comes down for.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: A little while. Just to see you smile.
- 1:00:36Speaker 18: Everything's alright, only for a while.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: Just to see you smile. Just to see you smile.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: Are you mad?
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much. We've got to
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: do this thing right now.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: Yeah, holding one little spot. Are you ready?
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: This is John Spencer, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:01:52Speaker 21: You've got to use what you've got to get what
- 1:01:55Speaker 21: you've got to.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: Let the hammer drop. License and registration, please.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: We'll throw it out there just to see what happens.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Because I know you love Leonardo DiCaprio. In the basketball diaries.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Does he do a terrible accent in this movie?
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: He's a fine actor with good accents. Well, again, speaking
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: of you can't make a movie with a male lead
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: in it and not cast him. even if it doesn't
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: make sense, even if he still looks like he's like
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: 14 and he's supposed to be playing a 35 year old,
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: they didn't care.
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: He's finally almost supposed to be 35 years old in
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: that movie.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: But I'm saying like for years there, he just didn't
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: age into his career. Like he still should have been
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: playing like five to seven years younger than they kept
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: casting him. Cause he didn't, he just didn't look it
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: like he never grew up enough to play. And they
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: were like, well, he's a big name. I guess we
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: have to cast him in this role. And like, Like,
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: but he doesn't seem like he finally has gotten to
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: the point. Like, he's in the last five years.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: Yeah, he just looks like an old man with a
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: weird little pudgy baby face.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like he finally got at least to the
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: point where I'm like, all right, I'll let him play
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: these roles now. But there was that middle run where
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I'm like, this is just not the right casting. Like,
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: and don't get me wrong, there's some good performances in there,
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: but it's just, it's odd casting because he still looks
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: like he's 14. Like, he just did not age for
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: about 10 years straight there, so. The first of which
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: was this album. All right, let's go with, again, I'm
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: trying to pick just random bands of the time. How
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: about Green Apple Quick Step with Dizzy?
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: Like, maybe if I heard the song, I would know.
- 1:03:44Speaker 17: No, you wouldn't.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: Oh, okay. I don't know.
- 1:04:02Speaker 30: From time to time there's a Camaro restaurant that all my.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: Best friends drive in take home a delighting.
- 1:04:28Speaker 21: Can you smell the summer air?
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Take me where they left the light on. Getting close,
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: almost there.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: If I fall into.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: A bed, don't read a thing.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: My head's dizzy and I can't get away. I'm good today.
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: My head's dizzy and I.
- 1:04:59Speaker 14: Can't get away I'm good today.
- 1:05:04Speaker 30: There's a laugh and a look Like something in a storybook.
- 1:05:11Speaker 21: I cut the eye of an electro woman.
- 1:05:15Speaker 30: In dynamite I blow up snow Like a sinner I
- 1:05:21Speaker 30: figure it out Wrote a book and Jesus was in it.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Tried to make the world stop spinning.
- 1:05:30Speaker 30: Or maybe just pretend for a while.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: Can you smell the summer air?
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: Take me where they left the light on.
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: Getting close, almost there.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: If that fuzzy super badge don't.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: Leave the light on Leave the light on Leave the.
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: Light on My head is dizzy I can't get away My.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: Head is dizzy I can't.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Get All right, so the era of the Farley brothers
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: kicks in, and you've got Kingpin here.
- 1:06:54Speaker 6: Farley brothers?
- 1:06:56Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: Who's the other brother?
- 1:06:58Speaker 17: Farley and Farley.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: Not Chris Farley.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: Oh, okay, never mind.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: The other Farley brothers. Chris probably had a brother, too.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: All right, where are we going on this one? Let's see.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Because a lot of these, I'm just like, yeah, normal, normal.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Stuff that turns up on a lot of soundtracks. But
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: I figure the only place you're going to get Super
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Deluxe is in the 90s. This is She Came On.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: This feels weird.
- 1:07:27Speaker 11: Are you sure this is legal? I don't know.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: It's fun though, isn't it?
- 1:07:31Speaker 31: She came on like a storm From the fun side
- 1:07:36Speaker 31: of the mountain Tapping warm, let me see silk on
- 1:07:40Speaker 31: the shore.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: It was her.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: World that I needed, but I.
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: Left her for someone I wanted more. Always using.
- 1:08:04Speaker 23: In the ignorance of youth Still I believe in my
- 1:08:10Speaker 23: illusions All realities within the future I accept the consequences For.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: My life of innocence She goes.
- 1:08:21Speaker 9: Wrong, sunshine bright Running game, rare.
- 1:08:24Speaker 19: Situations Guarded with, always answering Just because.
- 1:08:33Speaker 32: I say I'm a.
- 1:08:34Speaker 9: Screech Waking up from perfect dreaming.
- 1:08:38Speaker 23: When I realize I want what never.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Was Always using clever words to hide the.
- 1:08:50Speaker 23: Truth Communicating in the ignorance of you Still.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I believe that my delusion are realities within confusion i
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: accept the consequences for my lack of innocence.
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: Like a storm.
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: From the blind side of a memory soft and warm
- 1:10:05Speaker 9: left me seasick on the shore yes she believed she
- 1:10:12Speaker 9: could prove it was.
- 1:10:14Speaker 10: The world that i needed but.
- 1:10:16Speaker 23: I left her for someone i wanted more.
- 1:10:28Speaker 32: I remember at the time you wanted to be super deluxe.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: That's crazy. Was disturbing behavior in the 90s?
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: I feel like it was late 90s.
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: I remember that's probably like the last soundtrack I was
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: really excited about.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Do you remember what song?
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: The Harvey, the flagpole song.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Oh, flagpole. Yeah.
- 1:10:56Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Harvey Danger.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Would you like to work that in?
- 1:10:59Speaker 17: We should.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Because it is kind of one of my favorites.
- 1:11:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: And it's very heavily featured in that soundtrack. Because they're
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: just blaring it as they're running down the hallway there
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: towards the end of the movie. So, yeah, that's actually
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: not a bad album as a whole. No, it's not.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: I got it because of that song. And then I
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: also have the soundtrack. But then, yeah, there's two or
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: three others on there that are really, really good.
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: I remember.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: And the whole thing's pretty solid. Yeah, I listen to
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: that a lot, actually, for something that, even now, I
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: think I pulled it out not that long ago.
- 1:11:30Speaker 17: It's just beautiful.
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: Visions I was in them I was looking into.
- 1:11:48Speaker 14: The mirror to see a little bit clearer the rottenness
- 1:11:54Speaker 14: and evil in me fingertips and memories my can't forget
- 1:12:00Speaker 14: the curves of your body and.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: When I feel a bit naughty.
- 1:12:05Speaker 29: I rhyme it up with like we'll see who.
- 1:12:09Speaker 15: Still looks but no one ever does I'm not.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: Sick but I'm not well Cause I'm in.
- 1:12:21Speaker 14: Time Been around the world and found that only stupid
- 1:12:27Speaker 14: people are breeding The cretins cloning and feeding And I
- 1:12:33Speaker 14: don't even own a TV.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: Put me in the hospital for nerves and then they
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: had to commit me. You told them all I was crazy.
- 1:12:46Speaker 15: They cut off my legs, now I'm an amputee.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: God damn you.
- 1:12:50Speaker 14: I'm not sick, but I'm not well. Cause I'm in.
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: Hell.
- 1:13:06Speaker 14: I'm not sick, but I'm not well.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: And it's a sin to look so well.
- 1:13:23Speaker 14: And rage against machines.
- 1:13:27Speaker 7: I want to pierce my tongue It doesn't hurt, it
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: feels good.
- 1:14:02Speaker 14: To say you never met me I'm running.
- 1:14:06Speaker 15: Underground with the most in holes Hear.
- 1:14:12Speaker 19: The voices in my head I swear to God it
- 1:14:15Speaker 19: sounds like they're snoring But if you're born then you're pouring.
- 1:14:21Speaker 14: The agony and the irony They're killing me.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: I'm not sick but I'm not well Gavin Strick. Appointed live.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Reconstruction.
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: Were you an Angus fan? I, my ex-fiance was, like,
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: obsessed with that movie. Like, everyone in his family had
- 1:15:20Speaker 6: this weird thing where they would, like, watch the same
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: movie every single day for, like, a year. And Angus
- 1:15:27Speaker 6: was the movie he watched. Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: Dead was the movie his sister watched.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: All right, well, she's got pretty good taste.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: Yeah, and then.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: It's a classic movie.
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: Braveheart for a long time for his dad, and then
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: it was The 13th Warrior that has Antonio Banderas.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: And you were rounding things out with Beating the Beast?
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, I watched Beating the Beast every day.
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: As a child, though, these were like.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: These were just very special adults. These were like.
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: Late teenagers and then a 40-year-old man. I think it's normal.
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: Kids like repetitive watching of things. Up until I was
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: eight or nine. The only movie I consistently re-watch... And
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: I mean, not even like once a month or like
- 1:16:09Speaker 6: maybe like once a year or twice a year is
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: Ghost World. It's like the only movie I watch like
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: over Angus.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: So yeah, this, when I listened to this, I was like,
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: this is like the Clerks one and a half soundtrack.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Like it's almost the same vibe, which that's, yeah, that's
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: another one for the list. I can do a whole
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: episode of just like Kevin Smith movies. Obviously Tarantino is
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: easy to do. So it's like a lot of those
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: I may just subsection off in their own thing, but.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: This was like that same, because that first, you know,
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Clerks soundtrack was amazing. And like, this is just, it's
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: a handful of crossover bands, but it's just that vibe again. Like,
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: it's so that era of music. And it was an
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: excuse to play the Muffs.
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: The Muffs.
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: The Muffs.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: Again, more girl rock. This is Funny Face from the Muffs.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: Bye. Bye.
- 1:18:06Speaker 10: What's wrong with you anyway?
- 1:18:09Speaker 14: Funny face, what do I get? I could But now
- 1:18:53Speaker 14: I'll just forget it Funny face What's.
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: Wrong with you? Funny face Why do I care?
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: Oh There's also, like, Weezer, Smoking Popes, Love Spit Love. Like,
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: there's shit that just I only know from soundtracks in
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: the 90s.
- 1:20:26Speaker 14: My name is Julie Dawn Cole, but you may know
- 1:20:29Speaker 14: me as Brooke Assault, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:20:32Speaker 10: I see there is Neither loose nor tight Neither is neither.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: Black nor white.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Do you have any other ones you would like to work?
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: I don't know, Matt, can you think of any?
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Are you having more flashes?
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: I mean, like, this is the Space Jam soundtrack.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I have that. Are there any specifics that fit kind
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: of our jam we've got going on?
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: Not particularly on that soundtrack, but.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: I don't know. What was the first Schumacher Batman movie?
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Was that Forever?
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: Batman Forever is the first one, and then Batman and
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Robin's the Silverstone one.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: If you go back and revisit that Batman Forever soundtrack.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Which is sitting at home right now. Don't worry. I
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: also picked that up recently.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: It's odd, like, the bands that he got for that.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: Well, again, it's like it turned that corner. Like, they
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: sort of ramped things up so much with those Tim
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: Burton ones, and they got kind of popular, even though
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: most people didn't respond that well to Batman Returns. but
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: I think it had a decent enough turnout and they
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: had all the merchandising rolling at that point. So it's like,
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: it was just a machine. It was just Warner brothers,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: like throwing money into the machine. And I think that
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: was it. I think it got to that point because
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: the other ones didn't like, there's not, well, no, I
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: guess from the beginning, I mean, shit, the whole first
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: one is Prince.
- 1:21:58Speaker 29: Yeah.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: So you're already like, they, they already were trying to
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: tie in the soundtrack with like pretty big names. The
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: second one went mostly score. but I think Susie and
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: the Banshees did it, which another nice, timely reference has
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: a song at the end of the Batman returns. But yeah,
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: you get to the third one and it's just you too,
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: you know, it's just smashing pumpkins. It's seal at the
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: height of his sealness. And like, it's just, they really
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: did kind of like knock out some huge names for,
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: you know, again, you get those rare soundtracks that kind
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: of like are the big thing of the year. And like,
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: Half the songs on there became singles.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: At that point.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: You want to work some U2 in, don't you?
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: No.
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Everyone loves U2.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: That was the opposite of what I was trying to
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: pull off with that comment.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: I'm trying to think what else was on there that
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: was lesser known. We can Google it up if we
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: need to. PJ Harvey. Which was on another one earlier, too.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: I was like, but I like PJ Harvey too much.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: I don't want to put her in with these cheesy bands.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: These one-off songs. I'm like, PJ Arby's badass. Massive Attack.
- 1:23:11Speaker 14: Oh, yeah.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: Oh, Mazzy Star.
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: I was thinking that before you come over. I was like, yeah,
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: Mazzy Star, like, fade into you, which was, like, on
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: every soundtrack, basically.
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: And the only song ever from, that's another one of
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: those from, like, that local channel that shall remain nameless.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: I swear I hear Fade Into You every damn day.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: And I'm like, first of all, how old is that song?
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Second of all, they had no other song. Like, that's
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: the only thing I ever heard on the radio. They
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: had one hit, and that was it. And I'm like,
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: I know it's off an album. Are those other 9
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: to 11 tracks terrible? Like, you can't play anything else
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: from them?
- 1:23:48Speaker 6: I like there's Nick Cave on there, and then Michael Hutchins.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: And Method Man.
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: And then Sunny Day Real Estate. So it's all over
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: the place.
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: Are you leaning towards Sunny Day?
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: A little bit, yeah.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Number eight, which is oddly enough not track number eight.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Number eight from Sunny Day Real Estate.
- 1:24:26Speaker 18: It's beautiful, my dear Oh, what kind Oh, what kind.
- 1:25:02Speaker 14: It's a beautiful mind, yeah, where the love that comes
- 1:25:14Speaker 14: drives me.
- 1:25:40Speaker 28: A setting stone to split the night.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: That I breathe.
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: Would it work to these? Would it work to these?
- 1:26:43Speaker 14: Which lie do you earn when lines divide?
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: I walked away, blazing sun sets high.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: The battle cry all over Bye.
- 1:28:10Speaker 18: Bye.
- 1:28:11Speaker 17: Bye.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: Bye. holy rusted metal batman huh.
- 1:29:33Speaker 31: You're grown it's all metal it's full of holes you
- 1:29:36Speaker 31: know holy.
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: Oh oh brandy oh my gosh i mean brandy is
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: the track after pj harvey this is a weird soundtrack
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: oh massive attack and the offspring this is a weird soundtrack.
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: Oh my gosh r kelly That's what I'm saying.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: It's one thing if you get a cool vibe that
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: kind of flows through the whole soundtrack. And then there's
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: other times, and it's usually the ones where the studio
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: just throws money and is like, get every name from
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: every genre, from every type of music, and let's cram
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: them all in one soundtrack. And then none of them
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: will be Kiss from a Rose.
- 1:30:18Speaker 10: I know.
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: Not every song can be, though.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: Oh, Seal. He's still out there fighting the good fight.
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: With Heidi Klum?
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: No, not with Heidi Klum.
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: No, I mean like.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Fighting with Heidi Klum?
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: No, not like fighting together. Fighting against each other.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Fighting Heidi Klum.
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: In court somewhere right now. Yeah, he's pulling up the
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: Men in Black soundtrack. Who can forget all those Will
- 1:30:45Speaker 6: Smith songs that came out in the 90s?
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: I mean, I was going to say that for the
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: hardcore gangster rap album. Because you know nobody's more hardcore
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: than Will Smith. right? We can do a whole episode
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: of hardcore acts like Will Smith and Hammer. That Addams
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: Family rap is pretty hardcore. What does this story teach us?
- 1:31:09Speaker 29: Kill the hare.
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: Skin it.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: Boil it. Put the tortoise on the highway.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: During rush hour.
- 1:31:15Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: We will survive. I figure we can kind of round
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: it out with the end of the 90s. And the
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: return of the bad sex comedy, American Pie.
- 1:31:28Speaker 11: Oh, God.
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: Now, this, they brought in a lot.
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: That's my generation.
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: Well, again, it was a staple of the 80s, you know,
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: trip to the video store. There was a huge section
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: of nothing but really bad sex comedies. And it was
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: the only way you could see girls' boobs. You didn't
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: have the internet, damn it. It was the only thing.
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: You had to go rent a terrible movie. And sit
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: there for an hour and a half, or thank God
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: they made a fast-forward button. And then, like, it's, you know,
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: it changed people's lives. Mostly the pause button. But anyway,
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: that aside, it kind of died off. And you had
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: that whole run for a long time where people made
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: actual movies. I guess they were focusing more on, like,
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: your dumb indie comedy kind of a thing. Or rom-coms
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: or whatever crap came along. And then American Pie showed up.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: And it spawned its own 40 sequels. And on top
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: of that, like, it kind of, like, it was the
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: green light. Like, oh, we can do that again?
- 1:32:25Speaker 17: Okay.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: And this, like, onslaught of bad sex comedies came out.
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: And National Lampoon was back.
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: And, yeah.
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: So, a whole new generation of dumb movies. But the
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: soundtrack is odd and, like, super line up of mainstream
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: bands of the day.
- 1:32:45Speaker 16: And, like, I.
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: I remember the name Dishwalla, but I don't really remember.
- 1:32:49Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: Aren't they Johnny Blue Cars?
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: I don't know. I think that's what we're going with, though,
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: because that was one of those. I had a Tonic album.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: Their singles were good, and all the money went into, oh, no,
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: we're picking this song and this song, and then everything
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: else on that album is the most forgettable thing ever.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: And this one was not, this was like the other one.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: There's like two big singles that came off of that album.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: I'm sure they have other albums, but there was that album.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: In all practicality, it was all one album that they
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: were ever known for. And there's two great songs on
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: that album. I will still stand by those songs. And
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: then this one's not bad. So just be glad you
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: don't have to listen to the Third Eye Blind that's
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: right above that because that one does not hold up.
- 1:33:39Speaker 11: But, all right.
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: I'm a little disappointed there was no Chumbawumba on any
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: of these soundtracks.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: That wasn't by accident. Actually, I think they are on
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: one of the Batmans. It might be the Batman and Robin, maybe.
- 1:33:52Speaker 6: That song that they got famous for is annoying, but
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: the rest of their stuff isn't terrible. I mean, they're
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: like a weird anarchist.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: I was just sort of oblivious to the song, but
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: then I saw that I think they were on Bill
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: Maher one night. And she was kind of an idiot. Again,
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: they were preaching the anarchy thing, but they don't understand it.
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: They were doing it like a dumb teenager would.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: That's literally most people who talk about anarchy.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: No, let's go into this. And then they had nothing
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: to back it up because they were kind of idiots.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: From that point, I was like, as if I wasn't
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: done with you for your name, now I'm really kind
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: of done with you.
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: As a band.
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: They had a good song, though. It was called Whatever
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: Happened to Mary. It was really good. It was on
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: the Stigmata.
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: She gets back up again.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: It was on the Stigmata soundtrack, which may have been
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: like 2000, so it's probably over the cusp.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: Maybe you just put that one in your pocket. Yeah.
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: Come back later. For another time.
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: Come back later when we're doing weird sort of horror
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: movie soundtracks.
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: Or.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: bands from the 90s that sounded like.
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: Oh i have a new offshoot of like oz bands
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: that i'm like we went a lot of weird directions
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: in the in the early 2000s and because that's the
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: other era it's like everything i've gotten is like 90s
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: and then like 2000 to 2008 and there's It veers
- 1:35:26Speaker 2: into a couple of different directions, and one of them
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: is not a good direction. So I'm trying to find
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: a way to just spare people from that and not
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: have to play a lot of that crap that came
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: out in that era. I'll try to find some good
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: stuff that came out in the zeros, but you've got
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: to wade through a lot of stuff. Anything else you'd
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: like to pass along to the peoples?
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: No. I mean, they heard me sing like multiple times.
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: I don't know if you're going to edit that out
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: or not.
- 1:35:59Speaker 11: Oh, no.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: We might loop it back in for a second round.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: I don't care. If you'd like an encore.
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: I have no shame. When it comes to singing, at least.
- 1:36:06Speaker 6: There's a lot of other areas where I have shame.
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: Take us out with some Mazzy Star. Bust out some Blink-182,
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: which is also on the soundtrack.
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: I only know one Blink-182 song.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Or Goldfinger. Or the Atomic Fireballs.
- 1:36:21Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: Doesn't ring a bell. I took her out. It was
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: a Friday night. I walk alone to get to feeling right.
- 1:36:29Speaker 6: We started making out and she took off my pants
- 1:36:32Speaker 6: and then I turned on the TV. That's about all
- 1:36:35Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: They were a drastically different band depending on who decided
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: to sing that day. Because most of them fell on
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: that dude.
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: What?
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: And he was like the funny one and he had
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: a weird nasally kind of a sound.
- 1:36:47Speaker 6: Did other people sing in Blink-182?
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: Really? There was like the.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Martin Tom.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like didn't like the Adam song was the
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: other dude. And it's like the super serious one. And
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: then like, oh, you're like, oh, they're not dumb all
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: the time. Like, and don't get me wrong. They were fine.
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: But like, they didn't take themselves seriously. Like a very
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: evident in their videos. Like they were kind of that nice, refreshing.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: We're not a boy band. Let's make fun of them.
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: Kind of a thing at that point. We needed that.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: So they were fun and silly, but then they'd change
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: mics and be like, oh, this is a totally different
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: band now. It's like they'd hand it off to the
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: other guy and be like, all right, thank God Travis
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: is back.
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: Oh, this is unrelated, but this is just a movie
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: that we watched recently that was really good. Have you
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: seen Green Room?
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: Yes. It's awesome. Speaking of bands, it does have a
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: musical tie-in. And it just... that more than anything made
- 1:37:41Speaker 2: me sad about the Anton situation.
- 1:37:44Speaker 15: I know.
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: Because I'm like, he's so good in that. I'm like,
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: you can watch Star Trek, you don't even notice him
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: in that. He doesn't, he's, and that was well before
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: it happened, but like, he's barely in that last Star
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: Trek movie. But like, Green Room, he is so good in.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: I'm like, that sucks, man. I mean, granted, he has
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: like eight more movies waiting to be released. He had
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: done a ton of stuff that hadn't come out yet,
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: but still, I'm like, we could have gotten to see
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: him be like, middle aged actor and like turn in
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: these old guy performances and now we get none of that.
- 1:38:15Speaker 6: That's sad. I liked Imogene Poots and that she was
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: my favorite.
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: I just like saying Imogene Poots.
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: I mean I do too obviously that's why I said
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: it but yeah she was amazing.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: That was one of those like I don't know that
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: I even recognized her until the end of the movie.
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: I don't really know what else she's in, but.
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: Well, no, I know them together. Like, she's his co-star
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: slash girlfriend role in the Fright Night remake.
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: And, like, so it was funny. Like, obviously, they're friends?
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: Or somebody knew them and cast them again together? And, like, so... But, yeah,
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: I'm so used to seeing her, like, normal... American, you know,
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: kind of school girl. And now that is a very
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: different role for her when you get to a green room.
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: Like a weird, spacey, punk rock girl.
- 1:38:59Speaker 11: Skinhead.
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: Weird Chelsea girl. I mean, I feel like, I don't know.
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: Most movies that like deal with like punk music and
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: stuff like that get it so wrong. And it bothers me.
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: Like most movies that deal with subcultures get it very,
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: very wrong. You know, and obviously not all skinheads are
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: white nationalists or anything like that, but some of them are,
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: and that was about that particular group. I feel like
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: they really got the punk scene right, which is so
- 1:39:35Speaker 6: rare in a movie.
- 1:39:36Speaker 33: The super ghetto punk, like the backwoods bar that's barely
- 1:39:41Speaker 33: even a bar punk scene, which I'm like, that's... Yeah,
- 1:39:44Speaker 33: there's a lot of bands that have hit those venues,
- 1:39:46Speaker 33: if you want.
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: To call it that. Oh, I mean, I've been with
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: friends and bands who accidentally played with racist skinheads that
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: you just weren't aware. It's just a punk band that
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: you booked with, and then a bunch of dudes with
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: boots and braces show up, and most of those guys
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: are fine. And then sometimes there's a weird vein of crazy... violent,
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: racist ones.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: That's why I think that movie is so good is
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: because it doesn't try to, like, paint the picture of, like,
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: all bands are like this. All punks are like this.
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: And all skinheads. It's just so specific that, like, this
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: is this weird little band. This is this bar they
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: ended up in. This is the strain of weird neo-Nazis
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: that came along.
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: That's what I like about it because, like, anytime you
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: talk about, anytime you have, like, the oi scene or
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: like anybody that looks like that with the tight jeans
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: and the, and the suspenders and the boots and you know,
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: like everyone looks at them and just assumes. And it's
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: like really easy to just like do the negative stereotype.
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: But I feel like in that movie, you know, like
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: the first person they met that was like the cousin,
- 1:40:54Speaker 6: you know, like they made it, they made it a
- 1:41:01Speaker 6: point to be like, this isn't everybody in the scene.
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: this is just a small group in this scene without, like,
- 1:41:10Speaker 6: spelling it out for you.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: But it also feels like it's one of those, like,
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: you see the other people that are, like, adjacent to
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: that band, and, like, maybe they weren't into that. Or
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: maybe they didn't start off being into it. But it is, like,
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: a weird thing that, like, you don't immediately get to
- 1:41:26Speaker 2: the hardcore end of it. Like, you get to the
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: part of, like, oh, I'm just in a band, and
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: they play with this other band. And, like, you're slowly
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: sliding into this, like, horrible situation that like it's just
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: yeah it doesn't immediately present itself as oh god get
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: out and just turn around it's just enough of like
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: it's uncomfortable but I guess we'll make this work and
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: that just continues to just domino out of control very
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: quickly but yeah it's it's really well made yeah and
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: one more reason to love Patrick's God damn he's good
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: in that even if again To be like the most
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: beloved characters of all geekery and then to turn around
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: and play that role. And I'm like, that's again, like
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: he's an amazing actor that usually doesn't get credit because
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: he's busy playing dorky, you know, superheroes basically, literally sometimes.
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: But yeah, it's interesting to see him do something outside
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: of that realm and is serious and understated. Again, that's
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: one that could very easily be over-the-top scenery chewing, ha-ha,
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: I'm a Nazi! But, like, it's so subtle, the way
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: that he plays everything, and, like, still pretty damn evil.
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: So it's, yeah.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: Well, I mean, according to Ann Coulter, like, not bad
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: at all. Like, what have the Nazis ever done to anybody?
- 1:42:48Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think that's gonna be a long episode,
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: so we'll just cap it right there.
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: We'll save that for our spinoff history podcast.
- 1:42:59Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:43:01Speaker 29: Right.
- 1:43:01Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: Anything else to pass?
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: No, that's pretty much everything about the 90s.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Well, thank you guys for joining me and kicking in
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: some along the way. And we will finalize this deal
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: from American Pie. Round it out with You Wanted More
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: from Tonic. With that, I will remind you, Get a
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: Life will provide the soundtrack.
- 1:43:36Speaker 29: I don't know when I got bitter.
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: But love is.
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: Give more than I could handle For a life that.
- 1:44:15Speaker 14: I can't live You wanted more More than I could
- 1:44:20Speaker 14: bear More than I could.
- 1:44:22Speaker 21: Offer For love that isn't there.
- 1:44:39Speaker 29: Love is color, love is love, love is never saying
- 1:44:43Speaker 29: you're too proud.
- 1:44:49Speaker 24: Love is trusting, love is honest, love is not a.
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: Hand to hold you.
- 1:44:54Speaker 21: Down More than I could handle In a life that.
- 1:45:17Speaker 14: I can't live You wanted more More than I could
- 1:45:23Speaker 14: bear More.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: Than I could offer In the love.
- 1:45:29Speaker 14: That is in there I gotta.
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: Pick me up when I am down.
- 1:46:20Speaker 14: .
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: .
- 1:46:47Speaker 14: Thank you.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: Wait, which Rocket from the Crypt song is on there?
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: On this one? Glazed? Do you need an extra bonus
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: track of Rocket.
- 1:47:23Speaker 9: From the Crypt?
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: No, I'm fine. I'm just curious.
