Speaker 2: Today's guest is Rebecca Corey. Rebecca is a comic actress, writer,
• 0:38
Speaker 2: and advocate. She's the founder of the Stand Up for
• 0:40
Speaker 2: Pitts Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to educating, advocating, and saving
• 0:44
Speaker 2: the lives of pitbull type dogs. She's also one of
• 0:47
Speaker 2: the women who spoke out against Luisak in twenty seventeen.
• 0:51
Speaker 3: But so, how did you two get reconnected?
• 0:53
Speaker 4: Oh, I'll tell you.
• 0:55
Speaker 5: Why don't you tell the story? Yeah? Tell the story.
• 0:59
Speaker 4: Well, first I tell you I'm really proud of you, Chelsea,
• 1:02
Speaker 4: because I have to tell you, like, I'm not easy.
• 1:05
Speaker 5: I know that that's okay, okay, And.
• 1:08
  Speaker 4: I'm older than you. I'm a senior too, I'm fifty
• 1:10
Speaker 4: five years old. So I have lost all patients for
• 1:15
Speaker 4: humanity and everything they stand for.
• 1:17
Speaker 1: What do you why do you say you're so you're
• 1:20
Speaker 1: not easy? Why do you say that? Well, historically, Sai,
• 1:25
  Speaker 1: I said, I know, because I know that's what you
• 1:27
Speaker 1: think of yourself, and you've said that. I watched your
• 1:30
Speaker 1: documentary and you did watch my documentary, Yeah, Saving Jones.
• 1:34
Speaker 5: Yeah it was really it was.
• 1:35
Speaker 1: Yes, Yes, there were parts of it that I had to,
• 1:37
Speaker 1: you know, look away because I can't very sensitive with
• 1:40
Speaker 1: animals as you are, as well as many of us are.
• 1:42
Speaker 1: But yes, of course, yes, I wanted to prepare and
• 1:45
Speaker 1: and understand what you've been up to during this whole
• 1:47
Speaker 1: time because I knew you years ago doing stand up.
• 1:51
Speaker 5: We should stand up together. Twenty twenty five years ago.
• 1:54
Speaker 4: I moved here in ninety nine. I actually, I think
• 1:58
Speaker 4: the first time I ever did stand up was and
• 2:00
Speaker 4: I auditioned for the New Faces for the Montreal Comedy Festival,
• 2:04
Speaker 4: and I actually went me and Kevin Hart were in
• 2:06
Speaker 4: there were in new faces together.
• 2:08
Speaker 5: Were you were you taller than him? Then?
• 2:11
Speaker 4: At that he is approximately about a quarter inch taller. Oh,
• 2:14
Speaker 4: but if I had to take him, you know you could,
• 2:17
  Speaker 4: I could.
• 2:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he could easily be taken by a woman.
• 2:20
Speaker 1: And nobody can dispute that.
• 2:22
  Speaker 5: I'm sure.
• 2:22
Speaker 4: So then after that two thousand and one, I did
• 2:26
Speaker 4: stand up and then yes, you and I did several
• 2:28
Speaker 4: shows together at the improv. Yeah. Yeah. But then and
• 2:33
Speaker 4: and you know, then, you know, I did the stuff
• 2:36
Speaker 4: I did the career, did the did the stuff. And
• 2:39
Speaker 4: then then a you know, dog came into my life.
• 2:42
Speaker 3: And and Angel was the dog that sort of like
• 2:44
  Speaker 3: changed the trajectory.
• 2:45
Speaker 4: And right, is that the dog on the shirt?
• 2:47
Speaker 5: Yes, tell us a little bit about that.
• 2:51
Speaker 4: She came into my life. And then I started learning
• 2:52
Speaker 4: about how they're so discriminated against and how everyone fears
• 2:55
Speaker 4: them people, yes, piple tip dogs, and and I just
• 2:59
Speaker 4: could not belie leave that people were so horrified by
• 3:04
Speaker 4: them and so willing to hate them and want them
• 3:08
Speaker 4: all dead and to victimize them. And they're the most
• 3:10
Speaker 4: abused and tortured dogs on the planet, and like, you know,
• 3:14
Speaker 4: eighty five percent of them are like, you know, make
• 3:16
Speaker 4: up what's in shelters, and so I just couldn't believe it.
• 3:21
Speaker 4: You know, I'd be walking down the street, people be
• 3:22
Speaker 4: bolting to the other side and like, you know, saying,
• 3:25
Speaker 4: I hope that dog kills you, like crazy stuff, where
• 3:27
Speaker 4: I was like, this is crazy, what it's happening? Yeah,
• 3:30
Speaker 4: And she was just nothing but love, you know. She
• 3:33
Speaker 4: was just born inherently good and changed everything. And then
• 3:36
Speaker 4: I when I realized like how voiceless they were and
• 3:39
Speaker 4: how victimized they were and how mistreated they were, I
• 3:43
Speaker 4: just was like it was just knowledge. Once I had,
• 3:46
Speaker 4: I was like I can never I cannot just move along.
• 3:52
Speaker 4: I have to do something. And so then I, you know,
• 3:54
Speaker 4: I started doing live events before I became a charity.
• 3:56
Speaker 4: I never wanted to become a charity, and you know,
• 3:59
Speaker 4: just in biting my stand up comedy friends to perform,
• 4:02
Speaker 4: and it became bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger
• 4:04
Speaker 4: and bigger. And then I organized a march on Washington
• 4:07
Speaker 4: and that was amazing and just it really just solidified
• 4:12
Speaker 4: that that's what I need to be doing. So after
• 4:13
Speaker 4: about six years, I just chose, like, you know, is
• 4:17
Speaker 4: this something that I really want to do for my life?
• 4:20
Speaker 5: Or would just run a charity.
• 4:23
Speaker 4: And do this my job? This is my job?
• 4:25
  Speaker 5: Wow?
• 4:26
Speaker 4: Or do I want to you know, and earn in
• 4:29
Speaker 4: a year what sometimes it would take me a week
• 4:32
Speaker 4: to earn? Choose that life? Do I want to choose
• 4:35
Speaker 4: that life? Or what do I want to do? And
• 4:38
  Speaker 4: that's what I chose?
• 4:39
  Speaker 5: Wow?
• 4:40
  Speaker 4: Yeah, it sucks.
• 4:42
Speaker 1: So when you say you're a lot, why do you
• 4:44
Speaker 1: say that? When you say you're not easy? Why do
• 4:47
Speaker 1: you say that? I say that when I'm dating in person,
• 4:50
  Speaker 1: I'm like, listen, I'm a lot.
• 4:51
Speaker 5: So you might not be able to handle this.
• 4:53
  Speaker 4: I could see that, Yeah, I'm a lot because I
• 4:57
Speaker 4: really really really really really don't give a fuck, and
• 5:00
Speaker 4: I really really will say and do what I feel,
• 5:04
Speaker 4: even if I know that there is severe professional or
• 5:07
  Speaker 4: personal consequences.
• 5:09
  Speaker 5: I will.
• 5:10
Speaker 4: And So when you and I were having our banter online,
• 5:14
Speaker 4: the reason that I said that to you was because
• 5:17
Speaker 4: I had posted a comment on your page. My comment
• 5:20
Speaker 4: was restricted on your page, and I was like, unrestrict
• 5:24
  Speaker 4: the comment.
• 5:24
Speaker 1: I want people to see the comment restricted. I wouldn't
• 5:27
Speaker 1: even know how to restrict something.
• 5:28
Speaker 4: That someone must have, and it wasn't rude. I don't
• 5:31
Speaker 4: even think I said.
• 5:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, right, because that's weird and it wouldn't be
• 5:35
Speaker 1: like I have so many negative comments on my.
• 5:40
Speaker 4: That's why I was so frustrated. Was like, that's not
• 5:42
Speaker 4: like her to do that. So anyways, that's how our
• 5:45
Speaker 4: banter started. But then it was later where I was like,
• 5:49
Speaker 4: I posted the Luis y k right right, right right
• 5:53
Speaker 4: the thing, and that enrages me. That enrages me to
• 5:56
Speaker 4: this day because there's so much about that that is
• 6:01
Speaker 4: so insane that people don't know, not even a clue,
• 6:05
Speaker 4: Like they don't even have a clue. So what angers
• 6:08
Speaker 4: me about it is that it's just like this narrative
• 6:11
Speaker 4: that there was this power being wielded over me. I'm
• 6:13
Speaker 4: not speaking for the other women. I'm speaking for me.
• 6:15
Speaker 4: There was this power, you know, this power that was
• 6:18
Speaker 4: wielded and that we succumb to it because of the power.
• 6:21
Speaker 4: It's not the case, and in my case, I'm speaking
• 6:24
Speaker 4: for me, that was not the case. I was a
• 6:26
Speaker 4: creator and a writer and a series regular on a
• 6:29
Speaker 4: television show that I sold with Courtney Cox a David Arquette,
• 6:32
Speaker 4: and he was a cast member that was hired for
• 6:35
Speaker 4: that day to shoot the pilot Luis c. K correct,
• 6:38
Speaker 4: But it was not. It was there was.
• 6:40
Speaker 5: No power dynamic from his.
• 6:42
Speaker 4: The only from his stamp from no, the only power
• 6:45
Speaker 4: dynamic would be I was his boss, essentially right. And
• 6:48
Speaker 4: every time the guy farts in a certain direction, like
• 6:51
Speaker 4: I am drug through hell like I am, just like constantly,
• 6:57
Speaker 4: it's drudged back up. You're an unfunny you know, cunt, midget,
• 7:02
Speaker 4: hack loser, you got paid? What'd you you need? Attention? Like,
• 7:06
Speaker 4: all of this stuff comes up and I'm drug through
• 7:09
Speaker 4: it over and over and it's just endless publicity about
• 7:12
Speaker 4: what he's doing. And he's entitled to do whatever the
• 7:14
Speaker 4: fuck he wants. He is, he can go do whatever
• 7:18
Speaker 4: he wants, and that's fine. It does not affect my
• 7:21
Speaker 4: life in any way, shape or form.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: So what bothers you about that narrative that makes it
• 7:27
Speaker 1: so much that it was a hielding power or wielding
• 7:31
  Speaker 1: power for me?
• 7:33
Speaker 4: And again I say that because I don't ever want
• 7:35
Speaker 4: to speak on behalf of any of the other women
• 7:38
  Speaker 4: I was, you know, I was. I sold a television
• 7:42
Speaker 4: show that was legitimate that he was hired to be
• 7:45
Speaker 4: on for a day, and he chose to do the
• 7:47
Speaker 4: behavior that he did, and I chose to not shut
• 7:50
Speaker 4: down production. I chose to keep going because everyone else
• 7:53
Speaker 4: was there working doing their job, and you know how
• 7:56
Speaker 4: hearted is to sell a show. I just chose to not
• 8:00
Speaker 4: do that. That was my choice. I was given the choice
• 8:02
Speaker 4: what I wanted to do in that moment, and I
• 8:04
Speaker 4: chose not to do it. I stand by that choice.
• 8:07
Speaker 4: But I just can't stand the narrative that it's just
• 8:11
Speaker 4: like I was this victim. It's just that when it's
• 8:14
Speaker 4: constantly said over and over and over in all of
• 8:18
Speaker 4: the press and on all of these huge podcasts with
• 8:21
Speaker 4: you know, all of his homies and stuff, and they're
• 8:23
Speaker 4: all just perpetuating this narrative that it's like, you know,
• 8:25
Speaker 4: it's just you know, it was just this thing and
• 8:28
Speaker 4: like no big deal, NBD, and like these bitches just
• 8:32
Speaker 4: you know, are climbers and they were weak and they
• 8:34
Speaker 4: just wanted something. It's like, that's not the case. That
• 8:38
Speaker 4: for me, that is not the case. I was just
• 8:40
Speaker 4: doing I was working on a television show, doing my job,
• 8:43
Speaker 4: and what happened. I was walking to set, I was
• 8:47
Speaker 4: I was miked, and I was walking to set to
• 8:49
Speaker 4: shoot my scene, and he walked up to me and
• 8:52
Speaker 4: asked if he could jerk off in front of me
• 8:53
Speaker 4: and in my dressing room, and I said, in the moment,
• 8:57
Speaker 4: I said, abs a fucking lutely, not your face out
• 9:00
Speaker 4: of my face. That's super fucked up. No, that's all
• 9:04
Speaker 4: it was. And and then production found out and shut
• 9:10
Speaker 4: it down, and we added a lot of long talk
• 9:11
Speaker 4: about it, and then they gave me the choice, like,
• 9:14
Speaker 4: you know, do you what do you want to do
• 9:15
  Speaker 4: in this moment?
• 9:17
Speaker 1: You know, did you know him at all before that? No,
• 9:21
Speaker 1: like through comedy stand up.
• 9:23
Speaker 4: I'm I'm very close with Dan and Julia, the other
• 9:26
Speaker 4: two women who had a different experience with him up
• 9:29
Speaker 4: in Aspen. They're they're they're in my documentary. You probably
• 9:35
Speaker 4: saw them. I wrote a piece about it during the
• 9:38
Speaker 4: whole thing that you know, it just puts you in
• 9:40
Speaker 4: a lose lose situation when someone does that to you,
• 9:43
Speaker 4: you are immediately involved in that realm and you can
• 9:47
Speaker 4: never get out, right, You are sucked into the vortex
• 9:49
Speaker 4: of that bullshit and you will never get out through
• 9:52
Speaker 4: no choice of your own. There is a hundred percent.
• 9:55
Speaker 1: And also every guy like that will be like.
• 9:59
  Speaker 5: Well, yes, mission, that's what they'll that's what they'll.
• 10:03
Speaker 1: Say, you know, hearing this or having heard and with me,
• 10:07
Speaker 1: he did, but I am not.
• 10:09
Speaker 4: The other women and other people have a lot of
• 10:11
Speaker 4: other stories and I but for me, he did, And
• 10:16
Speaker 4: in that moment, I was like, absolutely fucking not. It's disgusting.
• 10:21
Speaker 4: What the fuck imagine walking to say? It's just I
• 10:26
Speaker 4: and you know what, it's it's gone. You know, it
• 10:29
Speaker 4: was a long long time ago. And the reasons that
• 10:32
Speaker 4: I spoke were for a lot of reasons. People don't understand.
• 10:36
Speaker 4: They would never even comprehend why I did. I spoke
• 10:39
Speaker 4: when I spoke, but I did. I have my reasons,
• 10:42
  Speaker 4: they're justified. I wouldn't change it.
• 10:44
Speaker 1: Do you want to talk about that? What your reasons are?
• 10:47
Speaker 1: Do you feel like you've already said that I never
• 10:49
Speaker 1: have said it. Do you want to say it? What
• 10:55
Speaker 1: are your reasons first speaking up?
• 10:57
  Speaker 5: When you did?
• 10:58
Speaker 4: I was invited to the Jane Goodall premiere to see
• 11:01
Speaker 4: her documentary, which I love Jane Goodall and I've had
• 11:05
Speaker 4: the privilege of meeting her a few times, which is like, right,
• 11:09
  Speaker 4: you know what I mean, it's a good one. I
• 11:11
Speaker 4: was at her premiere and was doing the carpet and
• 11:13
Speaker 4: stuff like that. And at the time, there was another
• 11:18
Speaker 4: comedian who was being very outspoken about about Louis and
• 11:22
Speaker 4: his behaviors and stuff like that, and that person is
• 11:26
Speaker 4: a friend of mine and she was being very vocal
• 11:29
Speaker 4: about or whatever. But I just I, for you know,
• 11:32
Speaker 4: was doing what I had done for years, which is
• 11:34
Speaker 4: just ignore it, just move on and just keep it moving,
• 11:38
Speaker 4: like keep it moving. I did not have the experience
• 11:40
Speaker 4: as other people had, so for me, just wanted to
• 11:43
Speaker 4: keep it moving, right. So I went to this premiere
• 11:46
Speaker 4: and a person that is of you know, that is
• 11:49
Speaker 4: very close with him, was really really nasty to me,
• 11:53
Speaker 4: like humiliatingly nasty. And I thought, so, what was that
• 11:58
Speaker 4: all about? And why is that necessary? And it was
• 12:00
Speaker 4: in front of a bunch of people, a bunch of
• 12:02
Speaker 4: mutual people and stuff like that. It was very blatant,
• 12:05
Speaker 4: very obvious and really nasty. And I thought, well, I'm
• 12:11
Speaker 4: losing no matter what, whether I'm quiet or not, I'm losing.
• 12:18
Speaker 4: Like I'm fucked. I'm clearly on the radar, I'm clearly
• 12:21
Speaker 4: on some sort of list. So I'm here just trying
• 12:25
Speaker 4: to see, you know, meet Jane Goodall and see her documentary,
• 12:29
Speaker 4: support her work, and I'm being treated like shit by
• 12:33
Speaker 4: a complete asshole. So I went home that night and
• 12:39
Speaker 4: like I cried. I'm not a big crier. It takes
• 12:41
Speaker 4: a lot to get me to do that, but I
• 12:44
Speaker 4: cried and was like this is so fucked up, and
• 12:46
Speaker 4: like I'm just trying to like move on. I don't
• 12:50
Speaker 4: deserve that shit. I've not done anything, I've not said anything.
• 12:53
Speaker 4: It wasn't my fault, like just like fucking leave me
• 12:56
Speaker 4: alone kind of thing. And so I told my friend
• 13:00
Speaker 4: friend who was being very vocal about everything, and I was,
• 13:04
Speaker 4: and I said, I'll go on record and I'll use
• 13:06
Speaker 4: my name, and she and I at that time, I
• 13:09
Speaker 4: was the only one. And she was like, you're going
• 13:12
Speaker 4: to use your name and I said yeah, because it
• 13:15
  Speaker 4: doesn't matter. Doesn't fucking matter. I'm losing anyway, Like, don't
• 13:19
Speaker 4: say anything. I'm a piece of shit. Say something, I'm
• 13:21
Speaker 4: a piece of shit. It doesn't matter. So at the
• 13:24
Speaker 4: time I spoke to New York Times and and they
• 13:28
Speaker 4: were like, Okay, you're the only one. I was like,
• 13:32
  Speaker 4: that's fine, and they I don't know what I'm allowed
• 13:36
Speaker 4: to say or not allowed to say, But I was
• 13:38
Speaker 4: the only one, and then as some time went on,
• 13:41
Speaker 4: then there was four other women. And that's it. I
• 13:45
Speaker 4: told my told my bit, told my told the truth,
• 13:49
Speaker 4: told the story Courtney David corroborated and others, and I
• 13:55
Speaker 4: stand by it. Like I said, I don't regret it,
• 13:57
Speaker 4: but it doesn't go away. And you know, it's the
• 14:01
Speaker 4: consequences of of that. And just when you and I
• 14:06
Speaker 4: going back to our post on communicating on Instagram, it's
• 14:09
Speaker 4: like it's just hearing a false narrative repeatedly for almost
• 14:13
Speaker 4: a decade. It's just fucking infuriating. And so when you
• 14:17
Speaker 4: were like, well, you know, how can I support you?
• 14:19
Speaker 4: Because literally, ultimately there was no support, zero support from
• 14:25
Speaker 4: the comedy community, zero support from women. I lost friends
• 14:30
Speaker 4: because of it. I you know, people distanced themselves. They're like,
• 14:34
Speaker 4: I don't want to be around you. You you called
• 14:36
Speaker 4: out one of the most powerful people in comedy, or
• 14:38
Speaker 4: you know you're done, you know you're out, You're done.
• 14:42
Speaker 4: I'm sorry, and I'm gonna say something that might shock you.
• 14:46
Speaker 4: But the most support I got, when any support came,
• 14:51
Speaker 4: was from men. It was you know, John Mulaney, it
• 14:55
Speaker 4: was Pete Lee, it was Judah Friedlander, it was Mark Marin,
• 15:02
Speaker 4: Patton Oswald. People reached out and were cool guys. Women
• 15:08
Speaker 4: not so much. It was very much there was fake,
• 15:12
Speaker 4: fake women who were like Rob Rossis Kumbala and we
• 15:14
Speaker 4: put on my pink pussy hat and stand with you
• 15:16
Speaker 4: in the moment. But it wasn't It wasn't real. It
• 15:20
Speaker 4: wasn't real at all. And the next moment they got
• 15:23
Speaker 4: to be in the boys club, they went right right
• 15:26
Speaker 4: to it. They kissed the ring and do whatever they
• 15:28
Speaker 4: can't just And here's the thing too, I understand that
• 15:32
Speaker 4: it put everyone in a really bad situation. I understand that,
• 15:36
Speaker 4: so I kind of have grace for some people. But
• 15:41
Speaker 4: you asked me, you know, when I sat down, what
• 15:43
Speaker 4: is it that bothers you the most? It is the
• 15:45
Speaker 4: false narrative that I You know that we're all, all
• 15:49
Speaker 4: of the women who went on record, we all have separate,
• 15:52
Speaker 4: different stories. We are all different individual human beings. I
• 15:55
Speaker 4: don't know the other two women. I very much know
• 15:58
Speaker 4: Dan and Julia. They're very special to me. They're good
• 16:01
Speaker 4: friends to me. I don't know the other women. But
• 16:05
Speaker 4: you know, we we had our experiences. We handled it
• 16:09
Speaker 4: in the way that we handled it, but we shouldn't
• 16:11
Speaker 4: be lumped into one group like booo, the little you know,
• 16:17
Speaker 4: that's the part that enrages me. And it's just not
• 16:20
Speaker 4: anything I'm ever going to be able to get away from.
• 16:23
Speaker 4: Aside from that, everything's good and everything's good. So that's
• 16:30
Speaker 4: how we got to answer your question. That's how we
• 16:32
Speaker 4: started talking. And then Chelsea was like pulled up her
• 16:35
Speaker 4: big girl pants and said, what do you want me
• 16:37
Speaker 4: to do to support you? And I go have me
• 16:40
Speaker 4: on your podcast and she said, great, my people will
• 16:43
Speaker 4: reach out to you. And I just thought they will not.
• 16:46
Speaker 4: They will not, and they did, and you did look
• 16:49
Speaker 4: at us, like, look at us. We're gonna get low
• 16:50
Speaker 4: backed tats after this.
• 16:53
Speaker 5: Did you bring one over?
• 16:55
  Speaker 3: No?
• 16:55
Speaker 1: I can't actually do tattoos a tattoo artist.
• 16:58
Speaker 4: Oh my god, you should see the one I have.
• 17:00
Speaker 5: I was back. Did you cover it up?
• 17:01
  Speaker 4: Seriously?
• 17:02
  Speaker 5: Could you?
• 17:03
Speaker 4: We'll talk about that lak yeah, but no. So thank you, Chelsea.
• 17:06
  Speaker 5: I'm proud of.
• 17:07
Speaker 1: You, Like, oh well, I mean, I'm glad to hear
• 17:11
Speaker 1: this all, even though it's unpleasant. I know it's unpleasant,
• 17:15
Speaker 1: but I'm glad for you to be able to talk
• 17:18
Speaker 1: about it in this way and to create I what
• 17:23
Speaker 1: you know, hopefully some distance from this and him and
• 17:26
  Speaker 1: not narrative.
• 17:28
Speaker 4: Well, it's a bit concerning talking about it to you,
• 17:31
Speaker 4: because this will get you have a gazillion people who
• 17:34
Speaker 4: pay attention to what you say and do, and this
• 17:38
Speaker 4: will air and it will start all over. And I
• 17:41
Speaker 4: had to shut my Twitter account down. I was getting
• 17:43
Speaker 4: death threats for two years, people showing up at my
• 17:45
Speaker 4: charity events telling me that they were going to rape
• 17:47
Speaker 4: me to death, like crazy shit. Yeah, so it's a
• 17:50
Speaker 4: double edged sword. I can talk to you about it.
• 17:52
Speaker 4: I am talking to you about it. I'm giving you
• 17:53
Speaker 4: consent to talk about it. I don't really talk about
• 17:56
Speaker 4: it that often, but it's what brought us together, so
• 17:59
Speaker 4: I feel like it's worth talking about. But at the
• 18:02
Speaker 4: same time, I'm fully aware of what this is going
• 18:04
Speaker 4: to do, and it is not going to be cute.
• 18:06
Speaker 4: But everyone can fucking suck it.
• 18:10
  Speaker 5: I don't care.
• 18:11
Speaker 1: I kind of feel that way about the world in general,
• 18:15
Speaker 1: you know, right now, I think a lot of women
• 18:19
Speaker 1: have come to this conclusion.
• 18:24
Speaker 5: The collusion that gives a fuck, you know what I mean.
• 18:26
  Speaker 4: I mean, I don't have.
• 18:27
Speaker 1: To for everyone, and everyone's the tenor the way that
• 18:34
Speaker 1: men are allowed to talk and treat women in this
• 18:37
Speaker 1: country has gotten to such a place that I really
• 18:39
Speaker 1: don't care about like pleasing them or making them happy.
• 18:45
Speaker 1: It's about making men aware, and we're not going to
• 18:48
Speaker 1: do it on this podcast. There's not tons of straight
• 18:50
Speaker 1: guys watching me, you know, either they I represent you
• 18:54
Speaker 1: know what a lot of those guys from the manosphere hate,
• 18:57
Speaker 1: which is an independent woman, woman who doesn't isn't looking
• 18:59
Speaker 1: for a man or doesn't need a man, and they
• 19:01
  Speaker 1: don't like that.
• 19:02
  Speaker 5: But I think a lot of women, I know a
• 19:06
Speaker 5: lot of women are just sick of it.
• 19:07
Speaker 1: We've all had it. It's just exhausting. And every time
• 19:10
Speaker 1: you meet a nice guy, you're like, oh my god,
• 19:12
Speaker 1: what a pleasure, and you're like over yeah, it's like
• 19:16
Speaker 1: a good dad. You're like, oh my god, you're such
• 19:18
Speaker 1: a good dad because you're with your kid right right,
• 19:21
Speaker 1: And you're like, oh my god, these guys you're getting
• 19:23
Speaker 1: rewarded just for being not rapist or not disgusting.
• 19:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, Like one of the easiest things in the world
• 19:29
Speaker 4: to not do is jerk off at someone someone, But
• 19:31
Speaker 4: it seems like one of them in a workplace. But
• 19:34
Speaker 4: it just seems like, that's just such a task. And
• 19:37
Speaker 4: I guess if one good thing has come out of
• 19:39
Speaker 4: the past ten years of that experience, this is good
• 19:43
Speaker 4: because I appreciate it, and I appreciate you taking the
• 19:45
Speaker 4: time to do it, and also you know, taking the
• 19:49
Speaker 4: time to watch my documentary and having a little bit
• 19:52
Speaker 4: of an understanding about what I'm up against when it
• 19:54
Speaker 4: comes to the city and like trying to end this.
• 19:57
Speaker 3: Horrible crisis because you have a lawsuit against this Los Angeles.
• 20:00
Speaker 4: Right, I have a lawsuit against everybody, all of the excellence. Yeah,
• 20:05
  Speaker 4: all of them.
• 20:08
Speaker 3: And tell me what is the like goal, purpose and
• 20:11
Speaker 3: goal of Like if you could wave a magic want
• 20:13
Speaker 3: to get your wish, what.
• 20:14
  Speaker 5: Is the results?
• 20:15
Speaker 4: Okay, that's a great question. Thank you, Thank you, Catherine.
• 20:20
Speaker 4: My dream would be like I started my charity sixteen
• 20:24
Speaker 4: years ago, and I loved it because I was still
• 20:27
Speaker 4: doing stand up when I was touring with my charity
• 20:29
Speaker 4: and got to do all that still, but also but
• 20:32
Speaker 4: doing it in a positive way was saving all these
• 20:34
Speaker 4: dogs and everything. But in my brain, I was like, oh,
• 20:36
Speaker 4: this is not going to last long. I got this charity,
• 20:38
Speaker 4: You'll be around for like a few years and then
• 20:40
Speaker 4: I'll have to shut it down because there's no need
• 20:41
Speaker 4: for it. And then I can go back to, you know,
• 20:44
Speaker 4: if I'm hirable, you know, going back to trying to
• 20:48
Speaker 4: have my career that I worked on, you know that
• 20:50
Speaker 4: I wanted and had, and it just turns out there's
• 20:54
Speaker 4: no end in sight, and not even in my lifetime
• 20:57
Speaker 4: will there be. But I'm a national charity but based
• 21:00
Speaker 4: in Los Angeles. But my dream is that is that
• 21:04
Speaker 4: animals in Los Angeles will stop being killed in no
• 21:07
Speaker 4: kill shelters. They call the shelters no kill when they're
• 21:10
Speaker 4: killing dogs every single day. Best Friends Animal Society calls
• 21:14
Speaker 4: it no kill LA. It's their thing, and I don't
• 21:17
Speaker 4: agree with it, because how can you call something How
• 21:21
Speaker 4: can you call something no kill when killing is happening
• 21:23
Speaker 4: every day. These are adoptable, lovable dogs. It's just batshit
• 21:28
Speaker 4: And so I'm firmly against that, and I'm also firmly
• 21:31
Speaker 4: against animals being I'm sorry, this is a real nose
• 21:34
Speaker 4: dive into the dark, but just go. We'll go with there,
• 21:37
Speaker 4: for I'll get us back out. I'll take us out.
• 21:40
Speaker 4: When dogs are being starved, infected, crammed in wire crates
• 21:43
Speaker 4: they're given to them by La City Shelters and called support.
• 21:47
Speaker 4: It's insane, and it's all happening in plain sight, like
• 21:50
Speaker 4: none of it is secret. This is all real life,
• 21:53
Speaker 4: like no one's making it up. It's not a theory.
• 21:56
Speaker 4: This is real life. So when I first found out
• 21:59
Speaker 4: about this about three years yars ago, I'd lived here
• 22:01
Speaker 4: for a very long time, and I'm ashamed to say
• 22:02
Speaker 4: I didn't really know what was going on on skid
• 22:04
Speaker 4: Row and all over the city. I didn't know, and
• 22:08
Speaker 4: a lot of times it's easy to not know. So
• 22:10
Speaker 4: when I found out about it, it was sort of
• 22:12
Speaker 4: the Angel thing where I was like, holy shit, this
• 22:14
Speaker 4: is insanity. This is and I'm a national organization, so
• 22:17
Speaker 4: I know what's going on around the country, but I
• 22:19
Speaker 4: was like, holy crap, this is like the fourth largest economy,
• 22:21
Speaker 4: that one of the largest cities in the world. This
• 22:23
Speaker 4: is a place of privilege and power, and animals are
• 22:26
Speaker 4: enduring things that you cannot you cannot fathom, you cannot fathom,
• 22:34
Speaker 4: and so I thought, Nope, that's gonna be wrapped up.
• 22:41
Speaker 4: We're gonna wrap that up. So I started offering services
• 22:44
Speaker 4: and resources and funding to span neuter piple type dogs
• 22:47
Speaker 4: on skid row and brought people in from blood Sport
• 22:50
Speaker 4: and all because they're fighting dogs and stuff from HSUS
• 22:53
Speaker 4: that they're now Humane World for Animals, and they had
• 22:55
Speaker 4: offered to do a sweep of the streets and pull
• 22:58
Speaker 4: the dogs who were being abused. Because not all just
• 23:01
Speaker 4: everyone knows, not all unhoused people abuse animals. There's many
• 23:06
Speaker 4: unhoused people who love their animals and give them what
• 23:09
Speaker 4: they need, just like not all people with houses abuse animals,
• 23:14
Speaker 4: but also people with houses abuse animals. So let's just
• 23:17
Speaker 4: clear that up so that the comments aren't you're going
• 23:19
Speaker 4: after home and we're not going after unhoused people. We
• 23:22
Speaker 4: are going after animal abusers, and they're doing it in
• 23:26
Speaker 4: plain sight. There's no excuse for it. So when I
• 23:28
Speaker 4: found that out, I just thought, no, no, I cannot
• 23:31
Speaker 4: live in this city. I cannot do what I do.
• 23:34
Speaker 4: I cannot have the mission maturity has and know that
• 23:38
Speaker 4: that's happening seven miles from my apartment. It's not happening.
• 23:43
Speaker 4: So I started doing I wasn't just crying and yelling
• 23:46
Speaker 4: and posting, and I was offering solutions, bringing in outside resources,
• 23:50
Speaker 4: and they were all just like, suck it sideways, lady.
• 23:54
Speaker 4: We don't want to hear what you have to say.
• 23:55
Speaker 4: We're not doing anything. And that has been consistent from
• 23:58
Speaker 4: Karen Bass to City Council Nitya, to all of La
• 24:02
Speaker 4: Animal Services, to Stacy Danes, Brenda Barnett, all of the GMS,
• 24:08
Speaker 4: all of it. They have just literally been like, no,
• 24:13
Speaker 4: we don't care what you have to say, and we're
• 24:15
Speaker 4: not solving it and we're not taking care of it.
• 24:18
Speaker 4: So after I exhausted everything for three years, I've been
• 24:21
Speaker 4: on every news show, done every interview, done everything I
• 24:25
Speaker 4: could possibly do to try to help end this, I
• 24:28
Speaker 4: decided that I would sue them all. And so I am.
• 24:33
  Speaker 4: And it's a historical, unprecedented lawsuit, and I have a
• 24:37
Speaker 4: really good legal team, Mark Garrigos and his firm, our attorneys,
• 24:42
Speaker 4: and we're fighting. We're still fighting and so on. The
• 24:46
Speaker 4: goal is to get it through to court so then
• 24:48
Speaker 4: we can get depositions and we can interview them and
• 24:51
Speaker 4: they have to be held accountable for what they're allowing
• 24:53
Speaker 4: to happen. And the dogs and the shelters are enduring
• 24:56
Speaker 4: excruciating circumstances. Some dogs are not even getting out of
• 24:59
Speaker 4: their kennels for six months, you know, what I mean,
• 25:02
Speaker 4: So I want this is all fixable stuff. I do
• 25:05
Speaker 4: believe that it can be fixed.
• 25:11
Speaker 1: Is there a place or a city that you know
• 25:13
Speaker 1: of where their system is a good beta test for
• 25:17
Speaker 1: ours or like blueprint not.
• 25:20
Speaker 4: That's a great question. But not in America. Other countries. Yeah,
• 25:23
Speaker 4: there's always going to be psychos who abused animals and
• 25:26
Speaker 4: do shitty things, but for the most part, they have
• 25:29
Speaker 4: great responses and great outcomes, and they control their population
• 25:33
Speaker 4: and they you know, it's a very A lot of
• 25:36
Speaker 4: other countries have things great under control, and I know
• 25:40
Speaker 4: we can do the same thing. In America not so much.
• 25:43
Speaker 4: Right now, we're in a total state of emergency. Like honestly,
• 25:47
Speaker 4: and especially LA, we are in a severe crisis.
• 25:50
Speaker 1: Let's tell people how they can help, what they can do.
• 25:53
Speaker 1: And we've got tons of animal lovers that listen to
• 25:56
Speaker 1: this show, So what can people do to contribute? Where
• 25:59
Speaker 1: can people see your documentary and yeah, people want to
• 26:03
Speaker 1: help dogs. Let's figure out what we can do, Okay.
• 26:06
Speaker 3: And also put a link to your documentary in the
• 26:09
Speaker 3: description for this episode too.
• 26:11
Speaker 4: I have a documentary short and the feature length. Those
• 26:13
Speaker 4: are both available at standard for Pitts dot US and
• 26:17
Speaker 4: there's a link there to go to kinema dot com.
• 26:19
Speaker 4: It's where you can rent it for now. That's where
• 26:21
Speaker 4: it's available. And then how people can help is if
• 26:25
Speaker 4: you are able to foster a dog, just open your home,
• 26:28
Speaker 4: you know, become a foster for a reputable rescue and
• 26:35
Speaker 4: open your home to try to adopt if you want
• 26:37
Speaker 4: to help the situation, the crisis. Volunteers are always needed,
• 26:41
Speaker 4: shelter volunteers, and they're always desperately hurting, especially Lancaster, Palmdale,
• 26:47
Speaker 4: not so much Palmdale, Lancaster that's a county shelter, not
• 26:50
Speaker 4: a city shelter, but all the shelters, city and county
• 26:52
Speaker 4: shelters desperately need volunteers. Donate if you can, but people don't.
• 26:56
Speaker 4: A lot of people don't have money. That's okay. You
• 26:58
Speaker 4: can still help and be effective and make an impact
• 27:00
Speaker 4: without having to donate. I always you know, I'm better
• 27:04
Speaker 4: at asking for money as a charity, but I always am.
• 27:07
Speaker 4: I think what's more powerful is empowering people to do something.
• 27:11
Speaker 4: If I, as a dipshit comedian who's never had anything
• 27:15
Speaker 4: to do with animal welfare, can accomplish what my charity
• 27:19
Speaker 4: has been able to accomplish. Anyone can do it. You
• 27:21
Speaker 4: just have to want to do it. So find what
• 27:25
Speaker 4: pulls at your heart, whether it's volunteering, fostering, donating, dropping
• 27:29
Speaker 4: off supplies to shelters, going down to skid row to
• 27:33
Speaker 4: feed the dogs and give the dogs water when it's hot,
• 27:36
Speaker 4: bring people it's dangerous, be careful. Whatever you can do
• 27:41
Speaker 4: to help, even just one act to help one dog matters.
• 27:46
Speaker 4: So that's what I would say. There's no real real form,
• 27:50
Speaker 4: there's no real answer. It's just find out what is
• 27:53
Speaker 4: important to you, what you want to see change, and
• 27:56
Speaker 4: try to be a part of that change in whatever
• 27:57
Speaker 4: way you can. It's really that simple.
• 28:01
Speaker 1: Well, I like that you're channeling your anger and rage
• 28:03
  Speaker 1: in this way.
• 28:04
Speaker 5: Thank you. This is important what you're doing.
• 28:07
Speaker 4: Thank you. Yeah, it's a lot of rage. I have
• 28:09
Speaker 4: an enormous amount of rage.
• 28:11
Speaker 5: There's a lot of rage to be had, I understand.
• 28:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, but thank you. Yeah. There's nothing more powerful than
• 28:16
Speaker 4: a pissed off woman.
• 28:18
Speaker 5: We get a lot done. Yeah.
• 28:19
Speaker 4: And my dream, just to answer your question fully, is
• 28:23
Speaker 4: that it just stops. I want to shut my charity down.
• 28:27
  Speaker 4: I don't like this. I I honestly would love to
• 28:30
Speaker 4: work at Trader Joe's and live in upstate New York.
• 28:34
  Speaker 4: That's my dream. That's where I'm at. I'm probably gonna
• 28:38
Speaker 4: die at sixty. I'm really hopeful. There's no wood. I'm
• 28:41
Speaker 4: hoping that I do.
• 28:41
Speaker 5: There's wood right behind you.
• 28:43
Speaker 4: I just I have small arms, Chelsea. I can't reach shit. Yeah,
• 28:46
  Speaker 4: thank you.
• 28:47
Speaker 5: I couldn't even knock on the wood.
• 28:48
  Speaker 4: No, it's fine, it's fine.
• 28:50
  Speaker 5: I wouldn't mind doing a group euthanasia.
• 28:53
  Speaker 1: Do you?
• 28:53
Speaker 5: Does that sound like something? Of course, they euthanize dogs.
• 28:58
Speaker 5: Why can't they euthanize us.
• 29:01
Speaker 1: It's kind of a conflict, actually, because we're talking about
• 29:04
Speaker 1: not euthanizing dogs, and then we want to but we
• 29:07
Speaker 1: get you because I'm kind of I feel like I
• 29:10
  Speaker 1: want to.
• 29:10
Speaker 5: Wrap things up soon, to.
• 29:12
Speaker 4: Wrap it up. Okay, Well, when you're ready, let me
• 29:14
Speaker 4: know and I'll go wherever you go.
• 29:16
Speaker 1: You might, I might be wrapping it up whatever you
• 29:20
  Speaker 1: want to happen.
• 29:20
Speaker 5: I see it happening for you. You do, because yes.
• 29:23
Speaker 1: Because you are fueled by anger and rage and you're
• 29:25
Speaker 1: going to accomplish something with this, even more than you
• 29:29
Speaker 1: already have, like whether it's this lawsuit or you know,
• 29:32
  Speaker 1: however that happens.
• 29:34
  Speaker 5: I do see.
• 29:35
Speaker 1: You can't put this much effort into something and not
• 29:38
  Speaker 1: see a result.
• 29:39
Speaker 5: You just can't. It will happen. It just doesn't happen
• 29:42
Speaker 5: whenever you want it to happen.
• 29:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, I really hope you're right.
• 29:46
