- 0:00Speaker 1: Mike Chris Baynell joined by Jim Pender's up here in
- 0:02Speaker 1: our broadcast booth. And this one you took advantage of
- 0:05Speaker 1: nine walks. I mean, when when the other team has
- 0:07Speaker 1: given you free passes, you got to take advantage, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: tonight you did that.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they I thought our guys were patient at the plate.
- 0:13Speaker 2: We weren't getting a ton of stuff to hit. And yeah,
- 0:16Speaker 2: we only had eight hits, you know, but when they
- 0:18Speaker 2: give you nine, you know, it's like giving you twenty
- 0:20Speaker 2: seven bases. So I'm sorry, math's a little off seventeen bases,
- 0:25Speaker 2: but took it. You know, we were able to score
- 0:27Speaker 2: on what they gave us. I mean, I thought Biller's
- 0:29Speaker 2: at bat in the first was huge. You know, we
- 0:31Speaker 2: have Tyler bounces out uncharacteristically in a big spot early there.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We get three straight walks and he doesn't get his
- 0:38Speaker 2: best swing off, and you know, there's a little bit
- 0:40Speaker 2: of momentum in the other dugout all of a sudden,
- 0:42Speaker 2: It's like, okay, we got through three four without anything
- 0:45Speaker 2: on the board and three walks, and then and then
- 0:47Speaker 2: Biller goes down two and then fights to stay in
- 0:51Speaker 2: the count, lays off some tough pitches and walks, and
- 0:54Speaker 2: that was that kind of broke the ice. And then
- 0:56Speaker 2: Dougherty with a big knock to follow that up, and
- 0:59Speaker 2: then it was off to the rate. After that, I
- 1:00Speaker 2: thought we did a really nice job offensively, and then
- 1:04Speaker 2: it made some nice plays defensively too. Biller had a
- 1:07Speaker 2: nice one the outfield, Daniels had a really nice diving play,
- 1:13Speaker 2: Tyler had a nice uh three six double play. So,
- 1:18Speaker 2: you know, some good things. And Budvar was on a
- 1:21Speaker 2: strict pitch count today. And Shaw picked up his buddy
- 1:24Speaker 2: from Manhattan College and ate a lot of innings. He
- 1:26Speaker 2: didn't have his best stuff, but we just needed all
- 1:28Speaker 2: those innings eating and he did exactly what we needed.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Shaw was a little up and down. He gave
- 1:33Speaker 1: up four runs, four hits, he walked three. But it
- 1:36Speaker 1: looked like to me, you were gonna leave him in there.
- 1:38Speaker 1: You're gonna make You're gonna work it out because this
- 1:40Speaker 1: is the deal. We lead, keep the lead, let's get
- 1:43Speaker 1: something fixed or whatever. You know, I'm thinking in your
- 1:46Speaker 1: mind what you might be thinking.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we didn't want to show them anybody else either.
- 1:50Speaker 2: You know, we had a decent lead. If they could
- 1:53Speaker 2: you know, we had Hutchinson ready, but you know, we
- 1:56Speaker 2: just we really wanted to just stay with the one
- 1:58Speaker 2: guy if we could, if we could get away with it,
- 2:00Speaker 2: and then the opportunity presented itself, you know, when we
- 2:02Speaker 2: don't get the mercy role in the bottom of the eighth,
- 2:04Speaker 2: the ten run role and it stays nine runs. You
- 2:07Speaker 2: got two guys that haven't been in a game in
- 2:09Speaker 2: a long time, and I thought, there's stuff looked great.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I thought Evan Hamburger's slider looked good. He was downhill
- 2:14Speaker 2: through an eighty nine mile hour fastball. You know, got
- 2:17Speaker 2: a good result. And I thought cam Cam looked really
- 2:20Speaker 2: good too. Mayor at his stuff working. And you know,
- 2:23Speaker 2: we may need those guys at Prasco and beyond, so
- 2:27Speaker 2: it was good to see them get back on the beam.
- 2:29Speaker 1: How much confidence does that give you as the as
- 2:31Speaker 1: the head coach when you see a couple of guys
- 2:33Speaker 1: mug even just get an out or two who you
- 2:36Speaker 1: haven't seen in a three or four weeks, can you
- 2:38Speaker 1: can you get a positive feeling from that and then
- 2:41Speaker 1: take that with you next week if you need it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Sure, Yeah, it's more important that they had the positive feeling, right,
- 2:45Speaker 2: And you know, you want to simulate. You don't want
- 2:48Speaker 2: to simulate a nine run lead. You know, in their minds,
- 2:51Speaker 2: it's got to be a tie score there or we're
- 2:53Speaker 2: down one or up one and do the job and
- 2:56Speaker 2: so that you can be better prepared for the next
- 2:59Speaker 2: time you pay, which probably not gonna be a nine
- 3:01Speaker 2: run lead, and we're gonna need you to do something
- 3:03Speaker 2: a little bit more special. So but I thought they
- 3:05Speaker 2: both looked like they can look, and we haven't seen
- 3:08Speaker 2: those two guys look like they can look in a
- 3:11Speaker 2: long long time. So that was that was important. Josh
- 3:14Speaker 2: came to me in the seventh or eighth and said, hey,
- 3:16Speaker 2: I'm thinking this this and you know what, Yeah, let's
- 3:17Speaker 2: do it. Let's do it. Let's get shot off the
- 3:19Speaker 2: mount in the ninth and if we have that big
- 3:21Speaker 2: a lead, let's you know, we can we can play
- 3:23Speaker 2: a little bit and see if they can get get
- 3:25Speaker 2: a couple of guys out.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And how much better is the bottom of the third order. Again,
- 3:29Speaker 1: when you got Grant MacArthur hitting seventh, does your DH
- 3:31Speaker 1: he gets a couple of knocks, knocks in a run.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Connor Land got a nice ground ball up the middle.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It has scored a run on the seventh plus that
- 3:38Speaker 1: sack fly and the first hit thing. I mean, it
- 3:40Speaker 1: really lengthens this lineup. But you got six three hundred
- 3:42Speaker 1: hitters there in a row, and then the bottom third
- 3:45Speaker 1: delivering a little bit for you.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, very much so MacArthur. You know, he's got ten homers,
- 3:50Speaker 2: and I mean, for it's a luxury to have a
- 3:52Speaker 2: seven hitter. And I'm looking at our averages on the board,
- 3:55Speaker 2: like you know, those are those are as high as
- 3:57Speaker 2: they've been all year. I mean, it's pretty it's pretty good.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It's it's got some The lineup certainly has some length.
- 4:02Speaker 2: We also have guys in the bench. I mean, I
- 4:03Speaker 2: got bow Root, who's you know, hitting over three hundred
- 4:05Speaker 2: that I can't get in there, you know, but I
- 4:08Speaker 2: love having It's a luxury because he's he's so good
- 4:10Speaker 2: off the bench too, and he can run. And so
- 4:13Speaker 2: we got some good answers. I think offensively gonna you know,
- 4:16Speaker 2: hopefully have a good day tomorrow with throwing strikes. And
- 4:19Speaker 2: they have a very good starting pitching, and I thought
- 4:23Speaker 2: we did a nice job getting to their starter tonight.
- 4:25Speaker 2: But we're gonna have another test tomorrow and hopefully we'll
- 4:28Speaker 2: have a good crowd tomorrow night on a Friday, last
- 4:30Speaker 2: Friday night in stores.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yeah, midweather was great, great baseball weather. One final thing
- 4:34Speaker 1: on biller. At one point I was looking at his numbers.
- 4:37Speaker 1: He was hitting about two oh nine at one point
- 4:38Speaker 1: in the season, he would not hit it. And then
- 4:41Speaker 1: he has been hitting much better over the last twenty
- 4:45Speaker 1: games or so. What are you seeing with him?
- 4:46Speaker 2: I mean, you got to be confident now in what
- 4:48Speaker 2: he's doing. Yeah, I thought he was kind of cutting
- 4:50Speaker 2: himself off early in the season, but it's kind of
- 4:52Speaker 2: how his swing works anyway. It really wasn't a mechanical,
- 4:54Speaker 2: mechanical thing. I think he was really getting in his
- 4:56Speaker 2: own way. He's such a people pleaser. He's such a
- 4:59Speaker 2: good young person and just a great personality. Really cares
- 5:04Speaker 2: about others. He's a great teammate, and I think he
- 5:08Speaker 2: was just so caught up in what everybody else was thinking,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you know, like he was putting too much weight on
- 5:14Speaker 2: his shoulders and and we moved him down in the order.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Was like, man, this guy should be hitting a lot
- 5:21Speaker 2: better than he is. And finally he just kind of
- 5:23Speaker 2: stuck with He always works, but I think he just
- 5:26Speaker 2: you know, these guys come in. They come here like
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna get drafted, I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna
- 5:30Speaker 2: do If you start thinking about that stuff, it's going
- 5:31Speaker 2: to get in the way. And I think he's just
- 5:33Speaker 2: playing for for himself now. He's not worried about anybody else.
- 5:37Speaker 2: He's he if this is it, if this is his
- 5:39Speaker 2: last time playing baseball, he doesn't want to have any regrets.
- 5:42Speaker 2: And the irony is, you know, he's he's starting to
- 5:44Speaker 2: draw some attention of scouts as a result. So you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: it's funny when you focus on what you can control,
- 5:50Speaker 2: what you're capable of, and uh, he's showing that he's
- 5:53Speaker 2: capable of an awful lot. He's a lot of fun
- 5:55Speaker 2: to watch. I mean, boy, that that line drive Homer
- 5:57Speaker 2: was special too. I mean that was that was another
- 5:59Speaker 2: moment swing. I thought, you know, they scored whatever it
- 6:02Speaker 2: was three on or Menzila, the RBI and the two
- 6:05Speaker 2: RBIs and Shaw's walking a couple of people, the momentum
- 6:08Speaker 2: shifting to their dugout. They get two quick outs, two
- 6:11Speaker 2: of our best hitters, and and Daniels and Minnick and
- 6:13Speaker 2: then boom, you know, Biller puts up a solo shot
- 6:16Speaker 2: and at least we answer with something in that inning.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So he got the game ball tonight. I just think
- 6:20Speaker 2: it was impressive what he was able to do in
- 6:22Speaker 2: those and just in those two at bats and in
- 6:24Speaker 2: the catch in the outfield. But he's a good baseball player,
- 6:27Speaker 2: really good, and we're really glad he's here.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun to watch. He really is that California thing.
- 6:32Speaker 1: The basketball team did that pretty well last couple of years,
- 6:35Speaker 1: Joey kal Katera coming in and win a national championship.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And now I got Sam Biller, who knows, who knows what
- 6:40Speaker 1: these Cali guys can do.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, they seem to fit in really well.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You know, it's it's we haven't had a bad one yet.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I mean really, they fit in great. And they're really
- 6:51Speaker 2: good baseball players, you know. They they they are playing
- 6:53Speaker 2: outside since their little kid a year round in many cases,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and they have the actions. They have the mental cuity
- 7:01Speaker 2: for it too. They really have good feel for when
- 7:04Speaker 2: to bunt, when not to bunt. What you know, what
- 7:06Speaker 2: the situation is, they just play. They play a lot
- 7:08Speaker 2: more baseball than we do out here at a younger age.
- 7:11Speaker 2: So they've they've they've really been a you know, I'm
- 7:15Speaker 2: thinking back twenty years now. We've been very successful bringing
- 7:18Speaker 2: in guys from the West coast. Yeah, Graham MacArthur's another one. Right,
- 7:21Speaker 2: all right, coach, you appreciate it. Tomorrow, let's go get them.
- 7:24Speaker 2: You got it, Thanks, Mike.
- 7:25Speaker 1: That's Jimpenders.
