- 0:00Hebrews chapter 13. Let us pray, our Father, who is
- 0:07in heaven, holy is your name, your Kingdom come, and your will
- 0:14be done here on this earth, just as it is there in heaven.
- 0:19Give us this day Our Daily Bread, and forgive us for our
- 0:23many sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
- 0:28Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
- 0:34For yours is the power and the Kingdom and the glory, forever
- 0:40and ever and ever in Jesus Christ, holy and precious name,
- 0:45I pray, Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 0:51Let brotherly love continue. So here the writer of Hebrews,
- 0:57he's expecting that the brotherly love is going to
- 1:02continue this phileo love, friends, he is in expectation of
- 1:08it because this is seeming of a person who calls themself A
- 1:15believer. The love of Christ indwells us,
- 1:18friends. When you finally realize just
- 1:20how much you have been forgiven. When you finally realize your
- 1:25position in Christ Jesus. When you finally realize, no
- 1:29matter death or disease, no matter if we have tragedy or
- 1:33bankruptcy, no job loss, loss of limb, loss of a child, when we
- 1:40finally see it in the full of what is ours and what is
- 1:45available to us in Christ Jesus, there is no reason for us to be
- 1:50bitter. There is no reason for us to
- 1:52have strife. There is no reason for us to
- 1:55have resentment and anger and unforgiveness.
- 1:58Friends, in the light of His glory, there is nothing but
- 2:04gladness and joy. There are a lot of things that
- 2:08plague us here on this earth. There are so many things that
- 2:11could go wrong and we air whenever we focus and hyper
- 2:16fixate upon those things instead of upon Christ's face, His
- 2:21beautiful, majestic face. And when you finally get to the
- 2:24place where you realize your inheritance and everything else
- 2:30fades away. And the most important thing
- 2:33that you could ever do is to make sure that you are in
- 2:37Christ. And to make sure every single
- 2:40person that you come across, your spouse, your children, your
- 2:44friends, your family, your coworkers, your constituents,
- 2:49all of your fellow citizens in the population of the world, it
- 2:53is to make sure that they know where they're going to spend
- 2:56eternity. That is the mandate that is
- 2:58placed on every single blood bought, born again believer
- 3:02friends. And when you finally live in the
- 3:05light as he is in the light and darkness does not dwell there,
- 3:09then you will have this brotherly love, this Koinonia,
- 3:14this one anothering one another, the fellowship that is so
- 3:18pleasing to a holy God. Verse 2 Be not forgetful to
- 3:24entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels
- 3:29unaware. Can you even imagine that there
- 3:32are times in your life, even today, as you go about your
- 3:36business, your daily routine, friends, you're going to rub
- 3:40shoulders against an Angel? Angelic beings in human form,
- 3:47these strangers that come and go just as fast.
- 3:53What an idea how this changes our entire view of the world
- 4:00around us. And whenever we are too pious,
- 4:07and whenever we are judgmental, and whenever we disallow people
- 4:13to be in the congregation because of the way that they
- 4:15look or the way that they smell, friends, we have sometimes sent
- 4:23angels on their way. And what a mark against those
- 4:28who are supposed to be lovers of God, those who are supposed to
- 4:34have the mind of Christ. And if you truly understood
- 4:38God's heart, you would understand that He sends angels
- 4:43into our camp and you would know that when they are amongst you,
- 4:48they are reporting back to God Almighty the things that you are
- 4:53saying and doing. What a thought.
- 4:56This should change everything. This should change the way that
- 5:00we view people that we come across every single day.
- 5:04Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in
- 5:10by doing so, some have entertained angels along the
- 5:13way. Verse 3 Remember them that are
- 5:17in bonds as bound with them, and them which suffer adversity as
- 5:23being yourselves also in the body.
- 5:25Here Paul wants the Hebrews. And by the way, the Hebrews here
- 5:34the word Hebrew means those that have crossed over.
- 5:37And that should be our mark as well.
- 5:41That should be our identity. We have crossed over from sin to
- 5:46life. We have crossed over from
- 5:49bondage into freedom, friends. And here Paul is wanting, or the
- 5:57writer of Hebrews is wanting to remind his readers that they
- 6:04should not forget those that are in prison.
- 6:06As Paul was accustomed to being in prison many times and
- 6:10persecuted with affliction for the faith, he stirred up the
- 6:15readers in the remembrance of showing hospitality to even
- 6:21those that are wrongfully incarcerated.
- 6:26And if you are imprisoned for doing wrong, there is no reward
- 6:31in that. But when you are imprisoned for
- 6:33doing the right thing, count it all as joy, for marriage is
- 6:38honorable in all and the bed undefiled.
- 6:43But whore mongers and adulterers?
- 6:45God will judge. Think about it for a second,
- 6:47friends. God instituted marriage, and God
- 6:51is the only one that can put two people together.
- 6:54That is not the government's job.
- 6:56That is not an official's job. That is not a judge's job is to
- 7:00put two people together. That is God's holy institution.
- 7:06And you can see here that it is God only who can make the
- 7:10marriage bed. Holy friends, and that does not
- 7:15just give us permission to do all kinds of disgusting things
- 7:22within the marriage bed. That does not what this text is
- 7:25talking about, but it is holy and it is honorable when 2
- 7:30become one and God is in that moment and we need to invite God
- 7:36into the marriage bed, friends and that is a foreign idea to
- 7:41most people and that is the devil's playground.
- 7:44Friends is whenever we keep God on the other side of the door
- 7:49while we engage in sexual activity, we need to invite God
- 7:54into that space, friends. He sees everything and
- 7:57everything is naked and bare before His eyes.
- 8:01Pray with your spouse. And this is a call for those who
- 8:06are cohabitating, those who are just playing house, those that
- 8:10refuse to get married. This is a call for them to leave
- 8:16their fornication, to leave their lifestyle of debaucherous
- 8:23living. God desires for you to be
- 8:27married to your partner and not just to play house and live
- 8:33together. Friends Five, let your
- 8:38conversation be without covetousness and be content with
- 8:43such things as you have. For He has said I will never
- 8:46leave you nor forsake you. You need to understand that we
- 8:51don't need more money, we need more contentment.
- 8:54So many of us think that if we could just get to another level
- 8:58of earning we would be satisfied and it never works that way.
- 9:02It is contentment friends. When God finally unlocks that in
- 9:06your life, when you finally step into the reality that God is the
- 9:10provider, He puts the OR in the earth that we value our currency
- 9:14off of. He is the one that put the
- 9:16digital threads throughout all of this creation so that we can
- 9:22have digital currency friends and it is God Almighty who
- 9:26instituted every single thing all around us.
- 9:30He put it all in to the fabric of this existence in this world
- 9:37and the universe at large. Friends and everything hangs on
- 9:41His word. And if God is for us, who can be
- 9:44against us? Friends.
- 9:45And he told us with food and clothing to be content, friends.
- 9:50And you can see that He's never going to leave us.
- 9:52He's never going to forsake us. He knows how to give good gifts
- 9:56and perfect timing. And we need to trust Him
- 9:59whenever we perceive lack. There is no lack in the Father's
- 10:02house. It is only a lesson for us to
- 10:06work on our contentment, friends.
- 10:09And that is the call for us who are consumers, for all of us who
- 10:14just want more and more and more and we're not satisfied with
- 10:19what we have and we're not taking care of what we have.
- 10:22Friends, God wants to work on your contentment.
- 10:26And you say that you need a new car, but you don't.
- 10:29You just need to take care of the car that God has given you.
- 10:33You say that you need a new pair of shoes, but you do not.
- 10:36You just need to take care of the shoes that God has given
- 10:40you. Friends and with food and
- 10:42clothing, be content. Godliness with contentment is of
- 10:51great gain, and we should not suppose that gain equals
- 10:56godliness. It does not work that way. 6 So
- 11:02that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not
- 11:07fear what man shall do unto me. Do not fear the one that can
- 11:10kill the body, but fear the one that could kill the body and
- 11:13cast your soul into hell. And that is what you need to
- 11:17understand is that God is fighting our battles.
- 11:19We are more than conquerors, we are the peacemakers.
- 11:23Friends, God goes before us. He's our rearguard and our right
- 11:26guard. Friends, He's our left guard.
- 11:28He is our light and we push towards him and we do not fear
- 11:34what man can do to us. Let fear of man fall off of you
- 11:38today. Break off fear of man friends,
- 11:42it is not from God. Fear and faith never cohabitate.
- 11:497 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken
- 11:53unto you the word of God, whose faith follow, considering the
- 11:59end of their conversation. So this is what he wants us to
- 12:03know. The writer of Hebrews here is
- 12:06telling us that those that have been put in authority over us to
- 12:10speak the truth in love whenever they are speaking the word of
- 12:15God, we obey the word of God, friends in in By doing so we
- 12:20will obey those that are in authority over us.
- 12:24This is not a blanket statement to just go along with any person
- 12:28who propagates false teaching, and this is a call for wisdom.
- 12:38Hate Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever.
- 12:43He is immutable friends, you can not wear him out.
- 12:48You can never exhaust Jesus Christ.
- 12:51It only gets better with time. And you can see here that Jesus
- 12:56Christ never changes. He said what He means and He
- 13:01means what He says. And we don't need to try to
- 13:05subtract anything from the Word of God or to add anything to the
- 13:09Word of God. It is finished to tell us die
- 13:12paid in full, friends. And from Genesis to Revelation,
- 13:17there is no error and there is no fault.
- 13:20It is congruent from beginning to end.
- 13:23And if, if we will build our entire life on the chief
- 13:27cornerstone, Jesus Christ, we will never be put to shame. 9 Be
- 13:34not carried about with diverse and strange doctrines, for it is
- 13:38good thing that the heart be established with grace, not with
- 13:43meats which have no profited them that have been occupied
- 13:47therein. So he's saying, don't worry
- 13:49about this strict dietary law, don't worry about festivals and
- 13:53new moons and all of these days of observance.
- 13:57It is grace, friends, and it is grace through faith that we are
- 14:02saved by. And He's warning us not to just
- 14:06go along with all of these false teachings, all of these false
- 14:10prophets, all of these strange doctrines, this strange fire.
- 14:15Friends, we do not need to just go along with it because they
- 14:18sprinkle Jesus's name in it, because they sprinkle God's name
- 14:22in it, because they sprinkle the Holy Spirit into their speech
- 14:26and conversation and they twist the words just like Satan did
- 14:30all the way back in the garden. Friends, we don't need to be
- 14:33carried away. We don't need to be so gullible
- 14:36and this is a call to be like the Bereans, to actually search
- 14:40the scriptures for ourselves to make sure that what is being
- 14:43taught lines up with the Holy Scriptures.
- 14:45Friends, that is the call. That is the mandate that has
- 14:48been placed on our lives. Do not just wait around and be
- 14:53spoon fed. Don't just get your doctrine in
- 14:56theology by what feels good or what is being given to you by
- 15:01short videos and sound bites. Friends.
- 15:04Actually get into to the Word of God.
- 15:06Actually fall in love with the Word of God.
- 15:09Let the Word of God be your worldview, friends.
- 15:13You'll never be put to shame. 10 We have an altar whereof they
- 15:20have no right to eat, which serve the Tabernacle.
- 15:25You are the temple of God, friends.
- 15:27And he instituted the Holy Supper, He instituted the
- 15:34breaking of bread, He instituted the drinking of the wine,
- 15:38friends, in remembrance of what he did on that cross for us.
- 15:44And they have no right to partake in that.
- 15:47The word of God is clear that if anyone takes of communion of the
- 15:53Lord's Supper and they do it in a way that they have not went in
- 16:01checked themselves, then they have brought about all kinds of
- 16:06disease upon themselves. They have no right to take the
- 16:11communion friends of the remembrance of the broken body
- 16:15of Jesus Christ and the spilled out blood for you and for me and
- 16:20it is not something that we just approach haphazardly.
- 16:25This is something that is in reverence as we take of the
- 16:29Lord's Supper. 11 For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is
- 16:35brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin are
- 16:39burned outside the camp. 12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he
- 16:46might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered outside
- 16:50the gate. He's talking about the day that
- 16:53Jesus Christ was crucified at Golgotha, friends, you can see
- 16:58that they led him out of Jerusalem and it was just like
- 17:03all of the beast for the Day of Atonement had to be slaughtered
- 17:07outside of the the temple. And then the blood brought in.
- 17:13And that is what the writer to the Hebrews is referencing, is
- 17:17that Jesus Christ lines up perfectly with the atonement for
- 17:22sin. His perfect spotless blood, the
- 17:27only one that was found worthy to open the scroll, the land
- 17:30that was slain before the foundations of the earth.
- 17:33And it pleased God to crush him. 13 Let us go forth therefore
- 17:41unto him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.
- 17:45Do not be surprised whenever you have to bear the reproach of
- 17:50Jesus Christ. He says, If they hate you,
- 17:52remember that they hated me first.
- 17:54If they persecute you, remember that they persecuted me first.
- 17:59We don't need to be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 14
- 18:06For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
- 18:12We seek new Jerusalem, friends, the city of God that will come
- 18:16down out of heaven and touch literal planet earth.
- 18:21And he is going to make sure that the gates are never shut.
- 18:25He's going to make sure that there is no unclean evil inside
- 18:29of that city. And we will be there with him,
- 18:32and he will be with us forever more. 15 By him, therefore, let
- 18:38us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually.
- 18:43That is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
- 18:47So you can see that God desires for us to enter the gates with
- 18:53praise and Thanksgiving. Far be it from us to be those
- 18:58that withhold conversation from a loving God who desires our
- 19:03communication. He desires for us to dialogue
- 19:07with Him, friends, and sometimes we go through a lot of hardships
- 19:12because He is increasing the communication between Him and
- 19:16you. You should start that when the
- 19:19chips are high. You should start that when
- 19:21things are good. You don't need to wait for
- 19:23tragedy. You don't need to wait, friends,
- 19:26for persecution and tribulation to come before you start
- 19:30speaking to ABBA 16 but to do good and to communicate.
- 19:38Forget not, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
- 19:44These are sacrifices friends. Doing good and communicating to
- 19:49God is a sacrifice that is pleasing unto Him.
- 19:53Our prayers are like incense to His nostrils.
- 19:59Friends, the prayers of the Saints is what God desires and
- 20:06you must know that the prayers of a righteous man availeth
- 20:10much. We do not need to be those that
- 20:13hold back on our prayers. If you could understand what
- 20:20your prayer does in the spiritual realm, you would pray
- 20:23a lot more. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you.
- 20:29Submit yourselves for they. Watch for your souls as they
- 20:34that must give account that they may do it with joy and not with
- 20:40grief, for that is unprofitable to you.
- 20:43So you need to understand that God puts people in your life to
- 20:46disciple you. And discipline never feels good
- 20:49in the moment, but it produces the character that God is after
- 20:54for all of eternity as He sanctifies you forever and ever.
- 21:00And when your sanctification is complete, job well done, good
- 21:04and faithful servant, you will be ushered into the presence of
- 21:08God. And he's telling us that when
- 21:12you have someone who is truly teaching God's Word, we don't
- 21:17need to be those that backbite and gossip and slander.
- 21:21We do not need to be those that try to break them down when
- 21:25they're doing God's work. And you need to know that those
- 21:28that step in to the arena of teaching the Word of God will be
- 21:32judged on a more strict basis. 18 Pray for us, for we trust we
- 21:39have a good conscience and all things willing to live honestly.
- 21:44So he is admonishing the readers of the book of Hebrews to
- 21:49continue in their prayer, and he knows that the prayer is
- 21:53effectual for so many of the breakthroughs that he has
- 21:58experienced in his ministry. Friends, that is the power of
- 22:02prayer. You need to understand that the
- 22:06prayer life of a St. is so precious to a holy God.
- 22:11You need to understand that it unlocks the angelic host and it
- 22:15sends them on mission. Friends, it unlocks prison
- 22:19doors. Friends, it cures diseases.
- 22:22Friends, it sets the captive free.
- 22:24Friends, increase your prayer life. 19 But I beg you the
- 22:31rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.
- 22:36So he's telling us to live honestly and to increase our
- 22:39prayer life. And by doing so he would be
- 22:43restored to them. It would release him from prison
- 22:47to come to them sooner. 20 Now the God of peace that brought
- 22:55again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of
- 23:01the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant.
- 23:06So God has put us into the dispensation, the age of grace.
- 23:11Friends, this is holy and this is pleasing to God, and this is
- 23:16everlasting, friends. And you need to know that we are
- 23:19a royal priesthood and we will rule and reign with him,
- 23:23friends, for 1000 years. And you need to understand that
- 23:27God is peace, and if we have a relationship with God, we will
- 23:34experience the peace and that He is able to raise us from the
- 23:40dead in the same way that He brought Jesus Christ back and
- 23:46resurrected him. 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do
- 23:52his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his
- 23:56sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever,
- 24:01Amen. So he is making us perfect.
- 24:05Friends, This is the process of sanctification.
- 24:09And there are sometimes that the good die young, and it is
- 24:13because God was done with the sanctification process of that
- 24:17person. 22 And I beg you, brothers, suffer the word of
- 24:25exhortation, for I have written a letter unto you in few words.
- 24:30He calls these 13 chapters in the book of Hebrews few words.
- 24:36I have to imagine that the writer of Hebrews had much more
- 24:43to say, but he's telling them to go ahead and start eating the
- 24:47steak dinner. This exhortation to them to do
- 24:52good and to continue on in the will of God for their lives. 23
- 24:59know you that our brother Timothy is set at liberty, with
- 25:04whom, if he comes shortly, I will see you.
- 25:08So Paul here or the writer of Hebrews here is mentioning this
- 25:13Timothy that we've seen many times throughout the New
- 25:17Testament. And he's referenced here at the
- 25:20end of the book of Hebrews, which tells us that this is
- 25:24probably Paul writing, and he's saying that Timothy has been set
- 25:30free and that if Timothy will come to them, it will be as if
- 25:35Paul is coming to them also. 24 Salute all them that have the
- 25:41rule over you and all the Saints, they of Italy salute you
- 25:46time after time after time after time.
- 25:49In this one chapter you see Paul referencing them that have the
- 25:53rule over you. This seems to be a theme of this
- 25:57chapter. And what you need to understand
- 26:01is that this 13th chapter of the book of Hebrews is a love
- 26:06chapter. And you need to know that the
- 26:0912th chapter was the faith or the IT was the hope chapter.
- 26:17And then we saw in the 11th chapter it was all about faith.
- 26:21So you have in 11-12 and 13 faith, hope and love.
- 26:26What an amazing thought. And you can see here at the very
- 26:30end, Paul is or the writer of Hebrews is intertwining all of
- 26:36it together and he's talking about those that have the rule
- 26:40over you. And he is letting you know that
- 26:43we have to respect those that God has been has put in
- 26:48authority over us. We do not need to be those that
- 26:52try to find fault all the time and try to stir the pot all the
- 26:57time and try to rally the troops against somebody that is not the
- 27:03heart of God. We'll end on 25.
- 27:07Grace be with you all. Amen.
- 27:11How amazing is our God that He could inspire the writer of
- 27:15Hebrews to give us all of these eternal words, friends, that we
- 27:21can sit and meditate upon for a lifetime.
- 27:26This entire book of the of Hebrews has been a wonderful
- 27:30discourse where we can go back and we can look at each little
- 27:36highlight and we can see so much theology being unraveled that we
- 27:42can view the rest of Scripture off of.
- 27:46And we are eternally blessed by the inspiration of the Holy
- 27:52Spirit to speak and to have it pinned down and preserved for
- 27:58our edification. I hope you've been blessed by
- 28:01this amazing chapter in God's Word.
- 28:03I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 28:07of you. I love you.
- 28:11We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 28:13God bless you.
