- 0:32Speaker 3: Right into it. Cold open, Yeah, cold open, all right,
- 0:35Speaker 3: Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here at Jillette Stadium.
- 0:40Speaker 3: It's Paul and myself. We'll be joined later by Deuce
- 0:43Speaker 3: and Evan, who'll be back from the locker room. And
- 0:46Speaker 3: we have a special surprise when oh we do, when
- 0:48Speaker 3: Deuce gets back from the locker room.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Oh, I'm looking forward to that.
- 0:51Speaker 6: I am.
- 0:52Speaker 4: I am unawares myself. We did have there's some activity
- 0:56Speaker 4: around the building today and we're getting into as we
- 0:59Speaker 4: like to say, it's turned the page day. It's onto
- 1:03Speaker 4: the opponent. We're onto Jacksonville, and in the Patriots case,
- 1:06Speaker 4: it's on to London because that's where we're headed. So
- 1:08Speaker 4: that's where a lot of the focus was today with
- 1:11Speaker 4: Gered Mayo, and then we heard from Hunter, Henry Dietrich
- 1:16Speaker 4: Wise and a Drake may I didn't get a chance
- 1:18Speaker 4: to listen to may because I wanted to be here
- 1:20Speaker 4: at the start of the show, but a lot of
- 1:22Speaker 4: London flavor in the questions and whatnot.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I was today, what do you have to say?
- 1:27Speaker 4: So some interesting stuff from the coach. You know, this
- 1:31Speaker 4: is back to you know, sort of the differences with
- 1:33Speaker 4: Bill Belichick and and Girod Mayo, the transparency a little bit.
- 1:37Speaker 4: So there was some focus on the discipline, the lack
- 1:39Speaker 4: of discipline, the penalties, the repeat defenders and whatnot. And
- 1:44Speaker 4: Girard pretty adamantly and sternly said, yeah, no, there's going
- 1:48Speaker 4: to be changes this week. Didn't say what they were,
- 1:53Speaker 4: didn't say what they're going to be, but the inference was,
- 1:57Speaker 4: without question, there will be changes. He was asked, all defense,
- 2:01Speaker 4: starting lineup, in the starting lineup, I think we're talking
- 2:04Speaker 4: about a lot of things, but offensive line. Yeah, I
- 2:09Speaker 4: mean you're almost assured they're going to get your what
- 2:11Speaker 4: is this game the seventh game, your seventh line combination,
- 2:16Speaker 4: you know, in this game. And he was asked about
- 2:19Speaker 4: some of those penalties, so he kind of hinted at
- 2:21Speaker 4: maybe changes in the offensive line. I think those are
- 2:24Speaker 4: coming anyway, because of necessities are expected. But yeah, I
- 2:29Speaker 4: would think that you might see some.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Talking about discipline and mistakes, and then he says there's
- 2:34Speaker 3: going to be changes. My thought immediately goes to the defense.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah. See, because I think it's more than just about penalties.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I agree with you, Fred, I think you know when
- 2:43Speaker 4: you're listening to Devon Gotchaw, now like three weeks in
- 2:46Speaker 4: a row, talk about lack of focus, lack of discipline,
- 2:49Speaker 4: lack of doing your job. You know you're doing you
- 2:51Speaker 4: know you're not being where you're supposed to be. And
- 2:54Speaker 4: there was a lot of focus on three bad plays,
- 2:57Speaker 4: the three big plays in the run game, and they were.
- 3:00Speaker 4: There are a lot of other bad players too that
- 3:01Speaker 4: are getting glossed over, but the big plays aren't really unexcited.
- 3:05Speaker 4: You can't allow fifty plus yard runs. They allowed two
- 3:08Speaker 4: fifty plus yard runs. That's like college stuff, right, So
- 3:13Speaker 4: I agree with you. I wouldn't be surprised to see
- 3:15Speaker 4: some changes in the front seven.
- 3:16Speaker 3: If you were de Marcus Covington or Gerond Male, what
- 3:20Speaker 3: changes would you make?
- 3:21Speaker 4: So I'll tell you a guy who is really as
- 3:24Speaker 4: under the radar as probably any member of that roster
- 3:27Speaker 4: is Jacquelin Roy. I don't know a whole lot about him,
- 3:30Speaker 4: But every time he's on the field the last two weeks,
- 3:33Speaker 4: I noticed him. He's a big guy. That might be
- 3:35Speaker 4: part of it.
- 3:35Speaker 3: But he's making a sack or pressure or whatever.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Does he going a defensive tackle for Keon White? Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 4: you know, I if this is like a discipline thing
- 3:43Speaker 4: or something like that, or for Daniel w Aqualae, you know,
- 3:47Speaker 4: one of these guys. And again I'm not putting all
- 3:50Speaker 4: of this on some of these players. Jeremiah Farms is
- 3:53Speaker 4: I think kind of tailed off in his playtime a
- 3:55Speaker 4: little bit, you know, the last few weeks. But this
- 3:57Speaker 4: isn't on those guys. These guys are being put in
- 4:00Speaker 4: positions that they probably the coaching staff probably didn't end
- 4:03Speaker 4: be front line, right, So I wonder if it's less
- 4:06Speaker 4: a demotion quote unquote as it is. We got to
- 4:10Speaker 4: get some bigger bodies up front and try to handle
- 4:13Speaker 4: this role. We can't be allowing one hundred and ninety
- 4:15Speaker 4: two hundred and ninety three yards the last two games
- 4:17Speaker 4: on the ground. What about some changes in that front?
- 4:20Speaker 3: You know, what about the use of Marty Mapoo.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Like So, I don't know what else they can do
- 4:26Speaker 4: with them other than what they have been. You know,
- 4:27Speaker 4: sort of the the versatile linebacker safety hybrid. I think
- 4:33Speaker 4: if you play him full time linebacker and you ask
- 4:35Speaker 4: him to be the guy who's stuffing the run, that's
- 4:38Speaker 4: asking for trouble. Yeah, I don't, you know. I love
- 4:40Speaker 4: the idea of an athletic linebacker, but not necessarily on
- 4:43Speaker 4: an every down basis, like taking on guards, fill and gap.
- 4:47Speaker 4: He's not as big as Juwan Bentley, no, you know,
- 4:50Speaker 4: so like ray Kwan McMillan has struggled, but he's two
- 4:53Speaker 4: hundred and fifty pounds. You know what. Mapoo I think
- 4:55Speaker 4: would have a hard time holding up on a on
- 4:58Speaker 4: a down to down basis if you asked him to
- 5:00Speaker 4: do that some some of that stuff. He had a
- 5:02Speaker 4: play early in the game where he shot a gap.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I think he hit Mixing in the backfield, like you know,
- 5:08Speaker 4: really just strong contact and Mixing just bounced off of him. Now,
- 5:12Speaker 4: the play didn't result in much. Mapoo made the play,
- 5:14Speaker 4: but he missed the tacking down and that's the play
- 5:17Speaker 4: that ended up hurting I think. I I mean from Afar,
- 5:21Speaker 4: I did a Brian moriy medical diagnosis from the press box.
- 5:25Speaker 4: I called it a stinger.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I remember that play.
- 5:29Speaker 4: It was a good play by Mapo.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I knew he got hurt on it.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yeah, as soon as he hit he kind of recoiled.
- 5:35Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean I think any of that stuff.
- 5:37Speaker 3: But the problem is not a lot of like Ben's
- 5:40Speaker 3: strength to deal with because you're already dealing with the bench,
- 5:44Speaker 3: you know, like and.
- 5:45Speaker 4: He had mentioned, you know, we get a penalty on
- 5:47Speaker 4: the first play of the game. You know, so that's
- 5:49Speaker 4: talking about Taki taki on the kickoff, I would assume.
- 5:52Speaker 4: So there's been a lot of you know, unfocused bad football.
- 5:57Speaker 4: So I think anything's on the table.
- 5:59Speaker 3: You think the why receiver group will remain the same
- 6:02Speaker 3: where you have, Well, maybe Polk is a guy.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I wonder if Burn. I wonder if Bourne gets more
- 6:08Speaker 4: more snaps right, you know, as he can. I think
- 6:10Speaker 4: he said the first week that he figured, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 4: in two or three weeks he'll feel a little bit
- 6:15Speaker 4: more comfortable. You know, it's been two games.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Maybe the top three is now pop Born and Booty
- 6:21Speaker 3: you know.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, So I mean Hooper and Henry are pretty much.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah, the tight ends, But like you have to, I mean,
- 6:30Speaker 4: I don't know if it'll be I wouldn't be surprised
- 6:33Speaker 4: to see Bourne take some of the snaps that we're
- 6:35Speaker 4: going to Polk And.
- 6:36Speaker 3: We don't know Stevenson's status right.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Not yet. No, So I don't think anybody asked them.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I mean, sometimes it's hard to hear the questions from
- 6:43Speaker 4: way up front, Yeah, in the and I kind of
- 6:46Speaker 4: go back and I look. I hear the answers obviously,
- 6:48Speaker 4: but I don't always know who he's talking about. A
- 6:52Speaker 4: lot to think about, No, But I just I thought
- 6:54Speaker 4: that was interesting off the top that Garad said, no,
- 6:56Speaker 4: there's going to be changes this week.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Well, I mean, they have to look at this game
- 7:01Speaker 3: as you know, it's not like they should win it,
- 7:03Speaker 3: but it's win a.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Bawl absolutely, yeah, yeah, and both teams are one and five.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Both teams should be looking at this game as listen,
- 7:11Speaker 4: this is an opportunity for us to get in the
- 7:13Speaker 4: win column. Yeah, you know, we got to put our
- 7:14Speaker 4: best put forward. We all know about the problems that
- 7:17Speaker 4: Jacksonville's had on defense. Patriots have had a hard time
- 7:21Speaker 4: consistently generating offense. Who wins that battle?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Yep?
- 7:25Speaker 4: Does the defense play better than it has? Does the
- 7:27Speaker 4: Patriots offense play better than it has. Whichever one of
- 7:30Speaker 4: those things happens will probably be the winner.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Okay. And then for coaching, like some people will say, oh,
- 7:39Speaker 3: Ben mcadows should be given a chance to call plays,
- 7:41Speaker 3: I don't think that they're anywhere near something like that.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Because I couldn't tell you.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Frankly, I like, I don't like. Again, I always say
- 7:48Speaker 3: this about play calling. I don't know if it's a
- 7:50Speaker 3: good play or bad play. I just know when it
- 7:52Speaker 3: looks bad, you know, and that could be execution. Yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 3: I didn't have any problem with the play calling.
- 7:58Speaker 4: I don't have to like almost and I said this yesterday.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I almost never have a problem specifically with the play
- 8:03Speaker 4: calling as a whole. You know, I'm not talking to
- 8:06Speaker 4: every individual play, but I do think there's an argument
- 8:09Speaker 4: to be made that what they do offensively the system itself.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I don't love. And I didn't love it before I
- 8:17Speaker 4: already even saw it, right, just were listening to them
- 8:19Speaker 4: talk about what they wanted to do, right, I didn't
- 8:21Speaker 4: like it. So like as an example, you know, and
- 8:26Speaker 4: I was listening to Greg Bdard talk about this on
- 8:28Speaker 4: my show yesterday. You know that the West Coast, the
- 8:33Speaker 4: traditional West Coast offense wants to send all five guys
- 8:36Speaker 4: out all the time and passes, and I just think
- 8:39Speaker 4: you need to be able to adjust a little bit
- 8:40Speaker 4: to the situation that you're dealing with right now with
- 8:42Speaker 4: the offensive line. And Greg was very critical of Van
- 8:46Speaker 4: Pelt's lack of willingness to keep a tight end into
- 8:49Speaker 4: double team and help a guy like Zach Thomas at
- 8:53Speaker 4: left tackle. They don't chip a whole lot on these guys.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I think Mike re said Hunter Henry about you know,
- 9:01Speaker 4: if you're lined up in line as tight end, is
- 9:03Speaker 4: that something that you can just you know, like you
- 9:05Speaker 4: look and you say this is not a good matchup?
- 9:07Speaker 4: Can I chip them here? Should I stay in and chip?
- 9:09Speaker 4: And you know, Henry rightly said, you know, you need
- 9:13Speaker 4: to do what the play is, right, Like you can't
- 9:15Speaker 4: just sort of free lance and say, I think this
- 9:17Speaker 4: guy is going to need some help here. So I
- 9:20Speaker 4: think that Van Pelt some of those criticisms that Greg
- 9:23Speaker 4: had yesterday, I think with Felgrim as a valid I
- 9:27Speaker 4: think when you're dealing with constant problems protecting, you need
- 9:30Speaker 4: to do something different to help. And I don't think
- 9:33Speaker 4: they've done enough of that well, I think, But that's
- 9:35Speaker 4: not play calling, you know what I mean, that's not
- 9:37Speaker 4: the same.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Right, right, that's right, that's strategy, and I think that's
- 9:41Speaker 3: where the head coach needs to help out too.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Yeah, And you know we had was it Mark in
- 9:46Speaker 4: Connecticut yesterday? Who wants the big guy off the practice squad?
- 9:49Speaker 6: Right?
- 9:50Speaker 4: Like to Mark and I, you know, I just want
- 9:52Speaker 4: to you know, hopefully Mark's listening, Like, I'm open to
- 9:56Speaker 4: all suggestions with with these guys. But I say, if
- 10:00Speaker 4: he doesn't get a call up or at least consideration
- 10:03Speaker 4: for a call up this week, then he's really not
- 10:05Speaker 4: in the mix because they're at dire straits at this point.
- 10:08Speaker 4: If Darian Lowe, we'll see when everything comes back from practice.
- 10:11Speaker 4: If Vadarian Lowe's out there, that didn't look great to me.
- 10:15Speaker 4: He's already banged up that he looked like he got
- 10:17Speaker 4: rolled up on pretty good on that play. I don't
- 10:21Speaker 4: know where you go for tackle depth.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Well, that's the thing. It's like, you know, we were
- 10:25Speaker 3: talking about it before the show, and you know a
- 10:27Speaker 3: couple of big trades just this week, you know, Davonte
- 10:30Speaker 3: Adams and Amari Cooper and UH receivers. It can happen because.
- 10:37Speaker 4: But because they tend to be more disgruntled.
- 10:39Speaker 3: They're disgruntled, and you know, teams are willing to get
- 10:41Speaker 3: rid of them.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Cooper's a little different because that's a team that reinvested
- 10:45Speaker 4: in Cooper. They thought they were going to be good
- 10:48Speaker 4: and they're not. So they know they're said, even when
- 10:51Speaker 4: you're not good. But Adams is obviously even.
- 10:53Speaker 3: When you're not good. In your sellers, you don't sell
- 10:56Speaker 3: your good tackle. You keep that person well if.
- 10:58Speaker 4: You Yeah, see it depends what the situation is.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Unless he's like, you know, thirty years old and he's
- 11:03Speaker 3: at the end of his contract, right, like.
- 11:04Speaker 4: You could do a DeVante Adams yeah version of Like
- 11:07Speaker 4: if San Francisco wasn't very good right now, I think
- 11:10Speaker 4: they'd look into selling Trent Williams. Yeah, you know, he
- 11:14Speaker 4: just he just held out. They gave him more money.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Now they're really good, They're not going to get rid
- 11:18Speaker 4: of a good left tackle, right But that's the kind
- 11:21Speaker 4: of situation that you got to fall into. But I
- 11:23Speaker 4: joked you talked about the trade deadline. I joked with
- 11:25Speaker 4: you before the show. I really like the best move,
- 11:28Speaker 4: in my opinion, that Elliott Wolf has made so far
- 11:31Speaker 4: was that Matthew Judon trade. I think that was an
- 11:33Speaker 4: excellent move. You get a third round pick for a
- 11:35Speaker 4: guy who's probably not going to factor into your future plans,
- 11:38Speaker 4: but to play, you know, armchair GM here for a second,
- 11:44Speaker 4: I was a proponent of giving him a little more
- 11:46Speaker 4: money getting him back on the field. This is how
- 11:49Speaker 4: what we talked to remember during training camp. I'm not
- 11:51Speaker 4: making anything up, and I said, why not give him
- 11:54Speaker 4: a little bit more play the first you know, half
- 11:57Speaker 4: dozen or so games with him, see if he can
- 12:00Speaker 4: help your front seven as a veteran guy, how he plays,
- 12:03Speaker 4: he could be very attractive on at the trade dead
- 12:06Speaker 4: right right now, I say, like, what would the Detroit
- 12:10Speaker 4: Lions be willing to give the Patriots for Matthew Judon
- 12:13Speaker 4: after the Aiighten hudgets and injury and probably the same
- 12:18Speaker 4: as you got, Probably, but I don't know. Maybe they
- 12:21Speaker 4: would have been desperate and given you a two. Yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 4: I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility.
- 12:27Speaker 4: So I'm not I don't want to make this. I'm
- 12:29Speaker 4: not criticizing the move. I think it was a good
- 12:31Speaker 4: trade by Elliott Wolf. That's the kind of trade I
- 12:34Speaker 4: think teams that are rebuilding should look to make and
- 12:37Speaker 4: they made it, and I like the move, but I
- 12:39Speaker 4: just wonder if they were a little bit more patient
- 12:41Speaker 4: and waited two months, if Detroit would give him a
- 12:44Speaker 4: little bit more right now, maybe they could have gotten
- 12:47Speaker 4: a three and a future pick or something.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Patient would have required giving him that money.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but that I mean, they had the money.
- 12:54Speaker 4: That wasn't It was like, I wonder, if you know,
- 12:57Speaker 4: the whole Hassan Redic thing with the Jet, if the
- 13:00Speaker 4: Jets would say, like, listen, we're gonna have to give
- 13:02Speaker 4: Philadelphia a second round pick anyway, Let's see if we
- 13:04Speaker 4: can get that pick back yep, you know, and trade
- 13:08Speaker 4: him to Detroit. He hasn't played for the Jets yet.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I know, he just changed agents and now he's got
- 13:13Speaker 4: Drew Rosenhaus so maybe he'll resign. Maybe he'll come in
- 13:16Speaker 4: and help them out. They got Adams. If they get
- 13:18Speaker 4: Riddick back, maybe they get little reinvigorated at two and
- 13:21Speaker 4: four and see if they can turn it around.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Sticking on the NFL for just a second, do you
- 13:26Speaker 3: hear about Jerry Jones what he did on his radio station.
- 13:29Speaker 3: So it made me think, like.
- 13:30Speaker 4: This is the kind of stuff like, never have we
- 13:33Speaker 4: ever had to even contemplate Robert Kraft coming in and
- 13:36Speaker 4: telling us something like that, right, right, And Robert Kraft,
- 13:40Speaker 4: we're a little he signed our.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Checks, he does, but he doesn't sign that person's check
- 13:45Speaker 3: that he was yelling at.
- 13:46Speaker 4: No, that was like neither does Jerry Jones.
- 13:47Speaker 3: But that would have been the same as if Robert
- 13:50Speaker 3: Craft yelled at ninety eight point five and yelled at Felger,
- 13:53Speaker 3: or if he was doing it like but our owner
- 13:56Speaker 3: doesn't do a weekly interview because he's not the GM,
- 13:58Speaker 3: but if well, but if he was the GM and
- 14:02Speaker 3: he did an interview with our flagship station, it would
- 14:04Speaker 3: be ninety eight point five, and it would be like.
- 14:06Speaker 4: If Jonathan's been on ninety eight five in the past.
- 14:09Speaker 4: He doesn't do it, he doesn't do it regularly anymore.
- 14:11Speaker 4: But Jonathan, you know, wouldn't take exception to a Mike
- 14:14Speaker 4: Felger question, right, I mean, Mike Felger and Jonathan Craft
- 14:17Speaker 4: have had back and forth. Not like you are back
- 14:21Speaker 4: John John, but you know, Jonathan would never say, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 4: I'll have you, I'll have your job, right.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I don't need you to be I'm sure he'll think it.
- 14:29Speaker 4: He's never done it.
- 14:30Speaker 3: No, you know, I think Jerry's getting a little impatient.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I think he lost it a little bit. I think
- 14:35Speaker 3: he probably read saying that. But it was a bad
- 14:37Speaker 3: look for Jerry Jones. Absolutely a terrible look for Jerry Jones. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 3: but he was just thinking about that.
- 14:42Speaker 4: The stuff we deal with. Yeah, people like you have,
- 14:45Speaker 4: we have a responsibility.
- 14:46Speaker 3: You couldn't possibly Most teams have a flagship station, and
- 14:50Speaker 3: you know, once you get the deal, the flagship station
- 14:53Speaker 3: is the one that pays the team. The team doesn't
- 14:55Speaker 3: pay them. Now, yes, do you have say like, I'm
- 14:59Speaker 3: sure if the Crafts didn't like Scott Zolac, they could
- 15:02Speaker 3: ask for another color guy. You know, I'm just saying,
- 15:05Speaker 3: you know, not that they don't, but I'm sure they
- 15:08Speaker 3: have some input into.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Who is some input.
- 15:10Speaker 3: But but it's the station.
- 15:12Speaker 4: The Lions tried to do it. Did you hear Fred
- 15:15Speaker 4: talking about it this morning? Yeah, So the Lions tried
- 15:18Speaker 4: to do it. They try to get rid of a
- 15:20Speaker 4: Felger type in Detroit who was on their flagstip ship
- 15:23Speaker 4: station who was very popular like Felger is, and they
- 15:26Speaker 4: said you got to get rid of him or we're
- 15:28Speaker 4: going elsewhere with the games, and they said, they say bye, yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 4: and now the Lions games are on a different channel
- 15:33Speaker 4: and the Lions stuck by I mean the radio station
- 15:36Speaker 4: stuck by their guy.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean there used to be an old saying
- 15:39Speaker 3: back when there were newspapers, you don't pick fights with
- 15:42Speaker 3: people who print, who buy in by the barrel barrel.
- 15:46Speaker 3: That's kind of like the radio stations. They they you know,
- 15:49Speaker 3: these terrestrial radio stations that are popular still have a
- 15:51Speaker 3: lot of influence.
- 15:53Speaker 4: You know, it's it's dying, but yeah, they still they're
- 15:55Speaker 4: still pretty influential.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Yeah. So I thought that was a lot of stuff.
- 16:00Speaker 4: You know, going on. We heard Wise, Dietrich Wise, here's
- 16:04Speaker 4: another one I want to I want to tell I
- 16:05Speaker 4: want to ask you your opinion. I'm going to set
- 16:07Speaker 4: this up and you tell me what your opinion is.
- 16:09Speaker 4: So it was one of the I think it was
- 16:11Speaker 4: the first question that Wise received was about the slow
- 16:14Speaker 4: starts and what do you need to do to get
- 16:19Speaker 4: off to better starts? And Wise's answer was to be
- 16:24Speaker 4: more prepared. So you had the same eyebrow raise that
- 16:28Speaker 4: I did. I looked at Deuce, I was sitting next to.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Not being prepared was never an issue at least that
- 16:34Speaker 3: we know of.
- 16:34Speaker 4: And how do you take a long time, you know,
- 16:36Speaker 4: how do you take not being prepared? What do you
- 16:38Speaker 4: think that falls.
- 16:39Speaker 3: On like today, Wednesday?
- 16:43Speaker 4: But but everything, Like to me, that's like, yeah, it's
- 16:45Speaker 4: on the players for not being ready to go, but like, no.
- 16:48Speaker 3: It's on the coaching.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Correct, That's what I was thinking that. I was like,
- 16:52Speaker 4: these are these are bad signs? These little comments like
- 16:57Speaker 4: I didn't like when Girard, you know, after the.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Usually a player we just need to play better, they
- 17:03Speaker 3: don't mention we need to be prepared.
- 17:04Speaker 4: I totally agree with you, Fred, and like these these
- 17:06Speaker 4: are the little thread to say that that that sort
- 17:09Speaker 4: of worries me a little bit. Like after the game
- 17:11Speaker 4: the other day, Drake May's debut starting debut, you know,
- 17:16Speaker 4: we need to do a better job of supporting Drake.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Like and I'm not saying listen, we fall into the
- 17:23Speaker 4: trap because we were around here for twenty years of dominance, right,
- 17:26Speaker 4: so we compare everything to Bill and Tom and I
- 17:28Speaker 4: know that's not fair. It is the two of the
- 17:31Speaker 4: very best that ever did what they do it right.
- 17:34Speaker 4: But Bill, I thought, to a fault, did an unbelievable
- 17:39Speaker 4: job of never making this the Tom Brady show, right yep,
- 17:44Speaker 4: And in one game we're kind of turning it into
- 17:46Speaker 4: the Drake May show, Like we need to do a
- 17:48Speaker 4: better job of supporting Drake May. No, you don't, derod.
- 17:51Speaker 4: You need to do a better job of being a
- 17:52Speaker 4: better team. You need to be more focused, you need
- 17:55Speaker 4: to be more disciplined, you need to avoid the penalties.
- 17:58Speaker 3: You need to play better football.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Not doing it it's not for Drake May, you know
- 18:02Speaker 4: what I mean. And then like I do, and now
- 18:04Speaker 4: one of the players is like, what do you need
- 18:06Speaker 4: to do to get out to a faster start? We
- 18:07Speaker 4: need to be more prepared. Like that's like, to me,
- 18:11Speaker 4: that's a pretty pointed shot at the defensive coaching staff
- 18:15Speaker 4: when already at the start of these games we're not
- 18:18Speaker 4: being put in the best position. So little things to
- 18:21Speaker 4: keep an eye on and hopefully they'll get better. Hopefully
- 18:24Speaker 4: it's all growing pains, you know, with a largely a
- 18:27Speaker 4: first time staff. It's not just a first time head coach,
- 18:31Speaker 4: you know, it's there's a lot of guys in roles
- 18:33Speaker 4: that they've never been in before.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I mean, well, Pellegrino has been there and obviously Brian
- 18:38Speaker 3: Belichick coming was.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Never a defensive coordinator. Van Pelt has never called plays.
- 18:44Speaker 4: There's a lot of guys in a role that they've
- 18:46Speaker 4: never really been in.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, that's something to watch, you know, in
- 18:51Speaker 3: terms of preparedness, you know a lot of teams, even
- 18:54Speaker 3: like not very good teams, that first drive it's scripted,
- 18:58Speaker 3: and sometimes they have success. You see that ah NFL games,
- 19:01Speaker 3: But then it happens the second time.
- 19:03Speaker 4: But happened when it's when it's scripted and it works.
- 19:05Speaker 4: What does that mean? It means your preparation was better
- 19:08Speaker 4: than the other teams because the the other like on defense,
- 19:14Speaker 4: your whole game plan, as you said on Wednesday, today
- 19:18Speaker 4: it starts today. You're trying to identify what the other
- 19:22Speaker 4: team is going to want to do on Sunday and
- 19:24Speaker 4: how they're gonna do it, and what can we do
- 19:27Speaker 4: to to best.
- 19:29Speaker 3: For the problems? How do we deal with them?
- 19:31Speaker 4: We think Jacksonville is gonna come out with a lot
- 19:34Speaker 4: of eleven personnel and they're gonna throw a lot of
- 19:38Speaker 4: a lot of passes outside the numbers, and they're gonna
- 19:41Speaker 4: mix in Tank Bigsby and throw the ball to the
- 19:43Speaker 4: tight ends. That's how we think they're gonna.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Come out, tendencies.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Right. Well, if that's not how they come out and
- 19:50Speaker 4: the other team goes right down the field, that means
- 19:52Speaker 4: you weren't prepared for whatever they did. Let's just say
- 19:54Speaker 4: they came out with two tight end looks and they
- 19:57Speaker 4: pounded Bigsby between the tackles all the way down the field. Well,
- 20:00Speaker 4: you were ready for eleven personnel and throwing outside the numbers.
- 20:03Speaker 4: So you guessed wrong, and that is what I I
- 20:07Speaker 4: interpret We weren't prepared. That's what I interpret that as.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Our game plan wasn't best suited for what we saw.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Ye now maybe quickly.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Maybe, And of course, you know and crack media, no
- 20:21Speaker 4: one asked to follow up to that answer, Like, are
- 20:24Speaker 4: you saying that you don't feel like you have good
- 20:25Speaker 4: game plans? Because my guess is would have walked that back.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, you know what I mean, even the chance, right, So,
- 20:33Speaker 3: but like, how many times did you hear from a
- 20:36Speaker 3: player we need to be better prepared?
- 20:40Speaker 4: No, not very often, and how many times the opposite? Well,
- 20:44Speaker 4: you know, we felt like we had a you know,
- 20:46Speaker 4: a really good week of practice, really strong game plan.
- 20:48Speaker 4: If you hear that.
- 20:49Speaker 3: All the time. You just didn't execute.
- 20:52Speaker 4: So like again Cincinnati and the opener, they come out
- 20:57Speaker 4: three and out. Bang, the Patriots are running the foot
- 21:00Speaker 4: ball effectively on offense. I know they didn't score a
- 21:02Speaker 4: lot of points, but they did run the ball really well.
- 21:05Speaker 4: So you're like, we were prepared today. We had a
- 21:08Speaker 4: good game plan against what we saw and it worked,
- 21:12Speaker 4: you know, and we haven't seen enough of that since.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Tough stuff.
- 21:19Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean it is You're right, there's an opportunity.
- 21:22Speaker 4: It's a winnable game. I didn't think Sunday was winnable
- 21:25Speaker 4: against Houston, you know, regardless of May's debut. I just
- 21:30Speaker 4: thought Houston was that wet match that much better talent wise,
- 21:34Speaker 4: that I didn't really anticipate that game being overly competitive.
- 21:40Speaker 4: I'd be surprised that this game turns out the same way. Yeah.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I really think that being overseas for two weeks can
- 21:48Speaker 3: wear on guys. I think, I know a lot of
- 21:50Speaker 3: people say that they'll have an advantage because they didn't
- 21:53Speaker 3: have to travel.
- 21:54Speaker 4: If they want to play, they will have an advantage.
- 21:57Speaker 4: I don't know if they want to play, to your point, right,
- 21:59Speaker 4: they might just be sick of it and want to
- 22:01Speaker 4: go home.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I think so they're looking at a valid home.
- 22:04Speaker 4: It's a valid excuse, valid line of thought. I would
- 22:07Speaker 4: rather be there than have to fly six or whatever
- 22:12Speaker 4: seven hours. Yeah, you know, like we made such a
- 22:15Speaker 4: big deal of Seattle in week two. Seattle's got to
- 22:17Speaker 4: come all the way. It's a ten o'clock you know.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Like if it's a big deal for West Coast teams
- 22:22Speaker 4: coming to the East Coast, it's gotta be a big
- 22:24Speaker 4: big deal to go to London when the other team's
- 22:26Speaker 4: already there.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, right, Yeah, it's you know, a three hour difference
- 22:31Speaker 3: is different than a five hour difference that those two hours, but.
- 22:34Speaker 4: It's it's worse.
- 22:35Speaker 3: But but here, like when you go to Seattle, you
- 22:39Speaker 3: leave right and either way if I know, if they're
- 22:43Speaker 3: coming here, the clock goes ahead, but you get in
- 22:46Speaker 3: at a reasonable hour and it's not a red eye.
- 22:49Speaker 3: You're not taking a red eye. That's what I think
- 22:53Speaker 3: sucks about going to Europe, is you take that red eye.
- 22:56Speaker 4: So do you think they shouldn't have taken a red eye?
- 22:57Speaker 3: I don't think so. They practice, So that's the problem.
- 23:01Speaker 3: That's the trade off. If you go during the day.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Then you lose the day of practice. So you know,
- 23:07Speaker 3: all the teams would rather have that day of practice.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Take the reddite. But then you get in We're going
- 23:11Speaker 3: to get to the hotel at nine in the morning
- 23:14Speaker 3: and then you're right right into the day. So you
- 23:16Speaker 3: better sleep on that plane, right.
- 23:18Speaker 4: So that's what they're looking for is to make it
- 23:20Speaker 4: a regular day on Friday. Yeah, get your work in.
- 23:24Speaker 4: When you're done with your work, now you sleep, right.
- 23:26Speaker 3: You know, Now you're regular, right, you know, Like you say, well,
- 23:29Speaker 3: why don't they leave, you know, Tuesday, Thursday morning. Well, then,
- 23:32Speaker 3: like I said, you lose that day of practice on Thursday.
- 23:36Speaker 3: You're right, So you can't win. You just got to
- 23:39Speaker 3: make sure that the guys sleep.
- 23:41Speaker 4: You're sick of being in Europe for two weeks. Theory
- 23:45Speaker 4: is arguably the key to the game, you think, So, yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 4: Like if if I think that, I think being in
- 23:53Speaker 4: a hotel, I think there's a chance that Jacksonville is
- 23:55Speaker 4: going to have no interest in this game. I think
- 23:57Speaker 4: they hate their coach. There's still time to steal Tom
- 24:01Speaker 4: Jackson's old phrase way back when. I think that they're
- 24:05Speaker 4: kind of tired of Doug Peterson and they look like
- 24:08Speaker 4: a very disjointed team. That's not that. You know, there's
- 24:13Speaker 4: a lot of teams that Patriots have had over the
- 24:15Speaker 4: years where you know the sum was greater than the total.
- 24:18Speaker 4: You know that the total was greater than the some
- 24:19Speaker 4: of the parts. That's the phrase, right, it's the opposite.
- 24:23Speaker 4: I think they have great parts, but they don't come
- 24:26Speaker 4: together as a as a strong total like the Jets.
- 24:31Speaker 4: They're not as talented as the Jets. Then, I mean, like,
- 24:34Speaker 4: I think Jacksonville's better than one and five, but they're not.
- 24:38Speaker 4: They're not as talented as the Jets. The Jets are
- 24:40Speaker 4: really being undone by by two main factors, and one
- 24:43Speaker 4: of them is really really bad coaching and really really
- 24:48Speaker 4: cranky quarterback. Like I think that's permeating the entire organization.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Like he's such an unlikable guy when people look at
- 24:59Speaker 4: it and say, well, Peyton Manning lifted Denver when he
- 25:02Speaker 4: got there, Tom Brady lifted Tampa when he got there.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Why isn't Aaron Rodgers. That's my biggest reason why I
- 25:08Speaker 4: think he can still play. I saw enough of the
- 25:10Speaker 4: game against the Patriots on the Thursday night, and I
- 25:13Speaker 4: watched the game Monday. He could still throw, he can
- 25:15Speaker 4: still do things physically. He's not what he once was,
- 25:18Speaker 4: but he's good enough. You know. He certainly has a
- 25:21Speaker 4: lot more left right now than Peyton Manning did when
- 25:23Speaker 4: he won a Super Bowl. Oh yeah, noodle arm, you know.
- 25:26Speaker 4: But it's everything else that he lacks, and he doesn't
- 25:29Speaker 4: have what Peyton man He doesn't have what Peyton Manning
- 25:32Speaker 4: and Tom Brady had, and that to me is the
- 25:35Speaker 4: biggest thing. Like, they have a lot of talent, the Jets,
- 25:38Speaker 4: but my guess is they're going to end up finishing
- 25:40Speaker 4: like nine and eight.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Speaking of Tom Brady, what do you think about him
- 25:45Speaker 3: being officially approved as an owner of the Raider minority owner?
- 25:51Speaker 4: I don't. I don't really. This is not really something
- 25:54Speaker 4: that I have a tremendous amount of interest in, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 4: just in general. But I will say I had no
- 26:01Speaker 4: idea about the Richard Seymour part of this. Did that
- 26:03Speaker 4: sneak on you?
- 26:04Speaker 3: Yes? I had no id You didn't get interested.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I just figured it was one of those deals that
- 26:08Speaker 4: everybody knew about me. But evidently Seymour's one of these minority.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Part Does he have his own stake or is he
- 26:14Speaker 3: part of Brady's team.
- 26:16Speaker 4: It's a great question. Yeah, I don't know.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Because I heard like I like, I was saying, you know,
- 26:21Speaker 3: how does Seymour get all this money? And somebody said, no,
- 26:25Speaker 3: these guys are getting back by these financial guys.
- 26:29Speaker 4: So they're the front. Yeah, they're the face. It's like
- 26:31Speaker 4: when didn't the Dolphins do that one year with Stephen Ross.
- 26:35Speaker 4: They had a bunch like j Low, They had a
- 26:37Speaker 4: bunch of like.
- 26:38Speaker 3: High they did, and I don't know how that.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Was just kind of like faces of the money, right,
- 26:43Speaker 4: I mean obviously.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And so these equity groups are buying a piece of
- 26:49Speaker 3: the team, which I'm not sure is going to end
- 26:53Speaker 3: up well, because if you're buying a piece of the
- 26:55Speaker 3: team at market value, you want to return on your investment.
- 27:01Speaker 3: And the only way you get a return on that investment, obviously,
- 27:04Speaker 3: is if the value of the team goes up and
- 27:07Speaker 3: then you go then you want to sell it to
- 27:09Speaker 3: get your return. So, like all this churning of ownerships
- 27:13Speaker 3: and and all this in the you know, I know
- 27:16Speaker 3: they've always been a there's been pressure to make more
- 27:19Speaker 3: money in the NFL, But now if they get into
- 27:21Speaker 3: this whole game with the equity firms, the pressure to
- 27:25Speaker 3: just make more money year after year after year. I
- 27:28Speaker 3: think maybe a negative for for the game.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Yeah, the game. That's interesting. You know a lot more
- 27:34Speaker 4: about this, I don't know anything.
- 27:36Speaker 3: I'm just you know, surmising.
- 27:37Speaker 4: I just look at it, you know, from you know,
- 27:40Speaker 4: a fan perspective, Like with all of those restrictions that
- 27:45Speaker 4: would now be officially placed on Brady as a broadcaster,
- 27:48Speaker 4: I don't see how he can do the job. I
- 27:49Speaker 4: don't see how he continue to be a broadcaster. To me,
- 27:52Speaker 4: it's such a conflict of interest. Yeah, like I think
- 27:55Speaker 4: he should star now. It might be a perfect out
- 27:57Speaker 4: for him, because I don't think he's very good at it.
- 27:59Speaker 4: I know a lot of people have said he's he's improving.
- 28:02Speaker 4: I haven't really seen it, and I don't watch as
- 28:05Speaker 4: much as the regular fans do. But with the clips
- 28:08Speaker 4: that I've heard, he just is very benign, very basic.
- 28:12Speaker 4: He says what virtually any of us could do. Now
- 28:16Speaker 4: they watched the replay, Oh that was a good play
- 28:17Speaker 4: by that guy. You know, yeah, I saw that too,
- 28:19Speaker 4: But why did it happen? I wonder if it's an
- 28:23Speaker 4: easy out for him, like I'm gonna not fulfill my
- 28:27Speaker 4: contract with Fox because I have this conflict of interest
- 28:29Speaker 4: with my minority ownership. I mean, what do you think
- 28:33Speaker 4: you think he'll try to do both?
- 28:35Speaker 3: I do it for a while, I do. I think
- 28:37Speaker 3: he's going to try to do both.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean obviously he's got to finish out this year. Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 4: but I wouldn't be surprised if we're hearing something you
- 28:44Speaker 4: know in March that you know, Tom Brady not going
- 28:46Speaker 4: to be an announcer.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Of next year. But like again, like you, you have
- 28:50Speaker 3: made an investment, or the people behind you have made
- 28:53Speaker 3: an investment, so you have a fiduciary responsibility to that investment,
- 28:59Speaker 3: and that is hoping that the Raiders are as good
- 29:02Speaker 3: as they can be to raise the value of the team.
- 29:05Speaker 3: So how can you honestly give assessments of all these
- 29:08Speaker 3: other teams? Conflict of interest? Yeah, like, because everything affects everything.
- 29:13Speaker 3: So like a team that may not be in the Raiders' division,
- 29:16Speaker 3: but they're in the AFC. And let's say the Raiders
- 29:18Speaker 3: were contenders, which they're not, but let's say they were
- 29:21Speaker 3: contending for a playoff spot. You could be broadcasting a
- 29:25Speaker 3: game that has you know, an impact on that playoff spot,
- 29:29Speaker 3: even if it's not the Raiders in the game.
- 29:31Speaker 4: You don't to talk about like the conflict stuff. You know.
- 29:34Speaker 4: On Saturdays, you know they do on ESPN, they do
- 29:38Speaker 4: you know, the College Game Day, right every Saturday morning
- 29:41Speaker 4: and they pick a bunch of games and it's, uh,
- 29:44Speaker 4: you know the whole panel. Desmond Howard McAfee's on that. Now,
- 29:48Speaker 4: Kirk Herbstreet, well, Herbstreet does one of the games. He
- 29:51Speaker 4: always like it's kind of like a little shtick they have.
- 29:55Speaker 4: He's there a game day in the morning, and then
- 29:57Speaker 4: he gets on a plane and he goes wherever the
- 30:00Speaker 4: game is that he's covering, and when they make the picks,
- 30:03Speaker 4: he doesn't make a pick on the game he's he's doing.
- 30:05Speaker 4: He's broadcasting, right, Well, I think you should do that.
- 30:08Speaker 4: That's why, right, because you don't want to be broadcasting
- 30:11Speaker 4: a game where it appears that you have right, well
- 30:14Speaker 4: we're doing Texas. O call Homer and you just picked
- 30:16Speaker 4: Texas and now you're announcing the game and it's all
- 30:19Speaker 4: pro Texas, right. You know, somebody's hearing that and they're like, well,
- 30:22Speaker 4: you know it's silly as well.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Football Joe Buck and Aikman don't pick the game right.
- 30:29Speaker 4: And it's kind of silly because what impact is that, Like, okay,
- 30:34Speaker 4: so yeah, I picked it.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Now I'm talking what at least the illusion of neutrality
- 30:38Speaker 3: from the announcers.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I understand, Like I get it, I get why they
- 30:41Speaker 4: do it. I just think it's kind of you know,
- 30:43Speaker 4: it's kind of silly. But like if they're not going
- 30:45Speaker 4: to do something as benign is make a pick on
- 30:48Speaker 4: a game, your things are much more, much more serious, Like.
- 30:53Speaker 3: This is hundreds of millions of dollars we're talking about.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Think about it. They're like, okay, so let's just say.
- 30:59Speaker 4: You know, Tom Brady, he is he's a pretty respected
- 31:01Speaker 4: voice now, you know, like this is the most successful
- 31:04Speaker 4: quarterback in the history of the NFL, and he's broadcasting games.
- 31:07Speaker 4: If I'm some owner or some GM of another team
- 31:11Speaker 4: and I hear Tom Brady talking about Fred kirsch Is,
- 31:14Speaker 4: he's a really gifted linebacker. He could he could do
- 31:17Speaker 4: a lot of different things. Well, is he saying that
- 31:20Speaker 4: because he thinks that or because he wants him on.
- 31:22Speaker 3: His team or tampering or is.
- 31:25Speaker 6: It like.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I'll do the opposite. I'm going to say this. You know,
- 31:30Speaker 4: Fred kursh is really good, But I'm going to downplay him.
- 31:32Speaker 4: He's he's entering a contract. I wouldn't pay him, you know,
- 31:35Speaker 4: I know he's going to be looking for a lot
- 31:36Speaker 4: of money. I wouldn't pay him the money when in reality,
- 31:39Speaker 4: he wants the guy to hit the market so the
- 31:41Speaker 4: Raiders can sign them, and they know like that, and
- 31:43Speaker 4: these things could happen.
- 31:45Speaker 3: And then you can say, well, he should just avoid
- 31:47Speaker 3: those conversations. Well then he's limited. Right, then you've cut
- 31:50Speaker 3: off his you know what, in his job.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Right, you should be able to freely discuss personnel up
- 31:59Speaker 4: and down the wrong.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like
- 32:02Speaker 3: it for so many reasons. Those and plus the fact
- 32:05Speaker 3: if he's going to be a minority of owner, if
- 32:07Speaker 3: any team, it should be the Patriots. So I don't
- 32:09Speaker 3: like it. I don't like it.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Yeah, fair, all right. My guess is we're not going
- 32:13Speaker 4: to have a lot of listeners that like it either.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Let's go to the TPX phone lines. While we wait
- 32:18Speaker 3: for Evan and Deuce to come back from the locker room,
- 32:22Speaker 3: we'll go to Eric in New Jersey. First.
- 32:24Speaker 7: What's up, Eric, Hey, prey, hey, Paul, I got a
- 32:28Speaker 7: suggestion when a little great what you said with this
- 32:32Speaker 7: past post game, but pipe just to put my GM had.
- 32:35Speaker 8: Off, I'm Elliott wolf up just looking here at the landscape.
- 32:38Speaker 8: I think we got something here with Drake. May I
- 32:41Speaker 8: really be pushing out at the Seahawks, are you know,
- 32:43Speaker 8: three and three and kind of going through it and
- 32:45Speaker 8: deep Kate teams little disgruntled. I would definitely be looking at,
- 32:49Speaker 8: you know, trying to get a third off this year
- 32:51Speaker 8: and I mean coming drafting, maybe a third to next year.
- 32:54Speaker 8: And I think it just really would open up the
- 32:55Speaker 8: passing game and then you know, we'll kind of take
- 32:57Speaker 8: away just that, you know, taking away to Mario Douglas.
- 33:00Speaker 8: Think that just enhances everybody from the offensive perspective and
- 33:04Speaker 8: just kind of get in jettison that that that learning process,
- 33:07Speaker 8: especially with a quarterback that does have some you know,
- 33:09Speaker 8: accuracy issues, just a bigger catch radius. If that's a possible,
- 33:14Speaker 8: I think he really should be put in there. But
- 33:15Speaker 8: one of the things that you said this past postgame
- 33:18Speaker 8: that I took you know, you know, you said that
- 33:21Speaker 8: you know you owe it to the players on the
- 33:22Speaker 8: roster to win games.
- 33:24Speaker 7: Uh.
- 33:24Speaker 8: I mean, let's just be honest A bunch of the
- 33:26Speaker 8: guys that we got here, I mean K. J. Osborne
- 33:28Speaker 8: is impart of the plan. And then the guys that
- 33:30Speaker 8: we drafted, they're here for the long haul. And the
- 33:32Speaker 8: free agents that you signed here for the long haul.
- 33:34Speaker 8: If they you know, I believe you know that they
- 33:37Speaker 8: had a realistic expectation that this teams are rebuilding team
- 33:40Speaker 8: and it's going to take that. You know, it's just
- 33:41Speaker 8: not a one year process. So you know, the plan is,
- 33:44Speaker 8: you know, the plan should be and their expectations should
- 33:46Speaker 8: be moving forward is to you know, we're gonna take
- 33:48Speaker 8: our lumps there, but you know, the plan is to grow.
- 33:51Speaker 8: You know, these guys, the journeymans that they have, I mean,
- 33:53Speaker 8: it's really you're you're here.
- 33:55Speaker 7: You're here just you're just.
- 33:56Speaker 8: A contractor essentially, and I think they understood that they're
- 33:58Speaker 8: just here trying to reset their value. Put the good tape,
- 34:00Speaker 8: and you know, whatever the cards may be. But you know,
- 34:03Speaker 8: I think if you owe it to the program, you owe.
- 34:05Speaker 9: It to the guys.
- 34:06Speaker 8: And again obviously not putting just drinks may ahead of
- 34:08Speaker 8: you know, everybody else and the rest of the team,
- 34:10Speaker 8: but you know, this is a passing league, This is
- 34:12Speaker 8: a quarterback heavy driven league.
- 34:14Speaker 10: We have to get that part.
- 34:15Speaker 8: We have to get that part figured out as well.
- 34:17Speaker 8: And then just the one suggestion that I would say,
- 34:21Speaker 8: you know, I'm with Paulie here. Let's you know, the
- 34:23Speaker 8: newsletter is cool, but you know, can we get maybe
- 34:25Speaker 8: you know two, you know, half season and at the
- 34:28Speaker 8: end of the season PMW paper that out there. I
- 34:31Speaker 8: think that'd be great and I take it off the
- 34:33Speaker 8: way back.
- 34:34Speaker 4: That's not happening.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Thanks, Eric, I just got to check the speaker. I'm
- 34:38Speaker 3: want to move it all right.
- 34:40Speaker 4: So there was a lot. Eric had a lot there.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I remember when we talked about like it wasn't like
- 34:49Speaker 4: you have a responsibility to win. You have a responsibility
- 34:53Speaker 4: to do the best you can to put teams to
- 34:57Speaker 4: put the team in position to win. We all understand
- 35:00Speaker 4: in as Geradas said many times, they're going to take
- 35:03Speaker 4: some lumps.
- 35:03Speaker 3: The players understand that. But I think where this issue
- 35:06Speaker 3: has come up it's you know, Drake may or Jacoby Brissett,
- 35:09Speaker 3: but they expect the best players to play.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Right and they are like, who's not like you could
- 35:16Speaker 4: make an argument and I think Mike did this perfect
- 35:20Speaker 4: that Mike just comes in from the locker room. But
- 35:23Speaker 4: you could make an argument that maybe a couple of
- 35:25Speaker 4: the young guys like Jayvon Baker jahem Bell I think
- 35:29Speaker 4: is one that Mike has talked about. Okay, we haven't
- 35:30Speaker 4: seen anything from them yet, but it's to Mario Douglas
- 35:37Speaker 4: year two, it's Jalen Polk year one, like okay, so
- 35:44Speaker 4: you want a different it's Kasehan Boody year two. Those
- 35:46Speaker 4: are those are the guys getting a lot of snaps
- 35:49Speaker 4: as receiver. kJ Osborne didn't get any snaps last he
- 35:52Speaker 4: was inactive of the week before. They're making that transition
- 35:55Speaker 4: to say, I think.
- 35:56Speaker 3: The only discussion this came up was with Jacoby and Drake.
- 35:59Speaker 3: But right, but Deuce is here and he's back from
- 36:03Speaker 3: the locker book.
- 36:03Speaker 8: Who's back from the locker room?
- 36:06Speaker 11: What was the mood where the player's friendly to that
- 36:08Speaker 11: none of them look.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Like Devik, Henry Hay, Mike, what was it like in
- 36:14Speaker 2: the locker room?
- 36:16Speaker 12: Halke?
- 36:17Speaker 3: What was it like in the locker rooms?
- 36:22Speaker 12: That's the first time I heard that.
- 36:24Speaker 4: It was yo, that was my first. I just did
- 36:27Speaker 4: the Billy Crystal White Man over by.
- 36:29Speaker 12: It was nice. It wasn't too much. You know, sometimes
- 36:30Speaker 12: Evan's like practiced on a little too much for me.
- 36:32Speaker 12: You know, it's Evan of it all. But I'm just joking.
- 36:36Speaker 12: But actually I didn't even go into the locker room today.
- 36:38Speaker 12: I was just in the video interview.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Yes, no, that is the video. So you didn't see
- 36:42Speaker 4: any Derek Henley Henry like anatomy.
- 36:45Speaker 12: No, No, I know, And I would never. I would never. God,
- 36:47Speaker 12: Paul good, were you guys just uh you were speaking
- 36:50Speaker 12: about talking about there were gonna be some changes.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Is that what you were talking about?
- 36:53Speaker 12: We talked about that.
- 36:54Speaker 4: I want to get your take on that a little bit.
- 36:55Speaker 4: But no, we just got a call about sort of
- 37:00Speaker 4: playing young guys over Vett and I think that they
- 37:02Speaker 4: I think they've done that.
- 37:03Speaker 12: I know. That's well, that's what the defense I was thinking.
- 37:05Speaker 12: I'm like, you don't really have anywhere to go. There's
- 37:07Speaker 12: nobody like waiting.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Let's get back. Let's get back to the girod comment
- 37:10Speaker 4: about there will be definitive changes, right, So we said,
- 37:14Speaker 4: you know, like, obviously there's gonna be changes in the
- 37:16Speaker 4: offensive line because it almost has to be the seventh
- 37:19Speaker 4: combination just by definition, right right, Because I don't think
- 37:23Speaker 4: Vederian we'll see when everything comes from practice. But Vederian
- 37:25Speaker 4: low Like, I can't imagine they're going to start Vederian Lowe,
- 37:29Speaker 4: Michael Jordan, Ben Brown, mica Oh Wentho, and Trey Jacobs.
- 37:34Speaker 4: I can't imagine that's the group that started last game.
- 37:36Speaker 4: I can't imagine all five of those guys are healthy
- 37:39Speaker 4: enough to start this game. So I think you're going
- 37:40Speaker 4: to get the fifth the seventh combination. But beyond that, Mike,
- 37:44Speaker 4: what do you think he might have been alluding to.
- 37:46Speaker 12: That's a great question, Paul, And that's where my brain
- 37:48Speaker 12: was going when I when he said that, And I'm
- 37:50Speaker 12: just I'm trying to think, like, who are you pulling out?
- 37:54Speaker 12: Who are you putting in? Like you mentioned Jaane Bell,
- 37:57Speaker 12: but like you're not pulling Hunter Henry out. I mean
- 37:59Speaker 12: maybe maybe you could say Austin Hoover fumbled it, but
- 38:01Speaker 12: I think that's an overreaction to that.
- 38:03Speaker 4: So I think defensively, Mike, Fred and I sort of
- 38:06Speaker 4: focused on the front, Yeah, and the amount of attention
- 38:10Speaker 4: to lack of discipline and devon Godchaw continuing to call
- 38:13Speaker 4: these guys out for not doing their jobs, and I
- 38:16Speaker 4: wonder does a keyon White lose sometime, does a Daniel
- 38:20Speaker 4: Aquale lose some time, and maybe maybe Mike we get
- 38:24Speaker 4: Jaquelin Roy more time. Like, I think the guy has
- 38:27Speaker 4: been in the game a little bit. I'm not telling
- 38:29Speaker 4: you this is a budding Chris Jones that we've all
- 38:32Speaker 4: been sleeping on. But no, he's I mean he's gotten
- 38:34Speaker 4: spot duty the last two weeks and showing up. I
- 38:37Speaker 4: think he's shown up in both of those games. I
- 38:39Speaker 4: wonder if they look at him. He's big guy, maybe
- 38:42Speaker 4: he could give him a little bit more beef upfront
- 38:45Speaker 4: against the run so they're not allowing one hundred and
- 38:46Speaker 4: ninety plus a game.
- 38:47Speaker 12: I'm jealous of this take, Paul. I mean, I think
- 38:49Speaker 12: that that might be the thing. I mean, you know,
- 38:51Speaker 12: I don't. I'm not gonna point all the fingers at
- 38:53Speaker 12: Daniel Aqualay, but that's one move that that could potentially
- 38:56Speaker 12: make sense. I think you're right or that Eric Johnson sugges.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Just to be like completely clear, Fred and I were like, look,
- 39:02Speaker 4: this is not on Keon White, this is not on
- 39:03Speaker 4: DANIELI quality, this is not on Jeremiah Farm.
- 39:06Speaker 12: Got to shake it up a little bit.
- 39:07Speaker 4: These guys have been asked to do something that I
- 39:10Speaker 4: would assume even the coaches didn't envision for them. Yeah,
- 39:13Speaker 4: they've been playing a lot more so this isn't on that.
- 39:16Speaker 4: This is by no means, but I'm just talking about discipline.
- 39:20Speaker 4: It's one thing if you're if you're not big enough
- 39:22Speaker 4: or talented enough to hold up at the point of attack.
- 39:25Speaker 4: It's another thing if you're consistently putting yourself out of
- 39:28Speaker 4: the play. Yeah, instead of operating the way you're supposed to.
- 39:32Speaker 4: And it sounds like the latter is happening too often.
- 39:34Speaker 12: Yeah, No, that's all really good stuff, Paul. I think
- 39:36Speaker 12: you're you're right. I would say maybe Taki takes some
- 39:40Speaker 12: snaps from Rayquon McMillan. Maybe, you know, we just heard
- 39:43Speaker 12: from Julanie to Vai. Uh in the locker room adjacent
- 39:45Speaker 12: it's the Rev's locker rooms. I guess it's still the
- 39:47Speaker 12: lockerlocker im Jason, but he's still pretty pissed and uh,
- 39:50Speaker 12: you know, pointed again to just consistency. He's like, you know,
- 39:54Speaker 12: we had and I think we'd agree with when we
- 39:56Speaker 12: were watching the game, it was, you know, they had
- 39:57Speaker 12: some snaps where they snuffed out the run and one
- 40:00Speaker 12: won the battle up front, and then.
- 40:02Speaker 4: The run defense was not as bad as the numbers
- 40:04Speaker 4: this week.
- 40:06Speaker 12: But but you're not quite gonna go three plays was
- 40:08Speaker 12: the difference in the game.
- 40:09Speaker 4: Well, no, especially when one of the plays led to
- 40:11Speaker 4: no points. Yeah, the sixty yard run they missed the
- 40:14Speaker 4: field goal.
- 40:14Speaker 12: Yeah yeah, right now, So I'm not.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Gonna say you give up forty one points because you
- 40:18Speaker 4: gave up three big plays when half of the big
- 40:21Speaker 4: you know, like I think two of the three big
- 40:22Speaker 4: plays led to three total points.
- 40:24Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, I know that's that doesn't necessarily ring true
- 40:27Speaker 12: to me when when why said that today?
- 40:29Speaker 4: But yeah, I just may have said it a lot too.
- 40:32Speaker 12: Yeah, I wish the three wish that there was like
- 40:34Speaker 12: an obvious one of like we've ben waiting, you know, like.
- 40:36Speaker 3: If anything, it gets your offense out in the field faster.
- 40:39Speaker 12: And I don't know that's what we kept saying. We're like,
- 40:41Speaker 12: well at these drakes getting more red.
- 40:44Speaker 4: It's like people were talking about, well, the time of
- 40:46Speaker 4: possession was even, like yeah, because it took the Texans
- 40:49Speaker 4: a blink to score.
- 40:50Speaker 12: Right, No, I I mean I think that the roy thing.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I hate stats when it comes to football. You have
- 40:55Speaker 3: to watch the game.
- 40:57Speaker 4: No, that's why we have to put the stats in
- 40:59Speaker 4: cond text.
- 41:01Speaker 12: You know, I know you watch the balls and I
- 41:03Speaker 12: mean you remember everything and you're able to put a
- 41:05Speaker 12: lot in context, and I think it's incredibly, incredibly valuable.
- 41:09Speaker 12: But you know, they've just their depth has been completely
- 41:11Speaker 12: crushed and they don't really have like a page to
- 41:13Speaker 12: turn to, whereas if it was last year, maybe you're saying, oh,
- 41:16Speaker 12: we get Marty Mapho back back in there, and maybe
- 41:18Speaker 12: Mapho playing more in you know, my linebacker.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Freds more wondering more of a full time but but replacement.
- 41:26Speaker 12: For you're kind of grasping because you're not going to
- 41:28Speaker 12: bench Gonzales, that's the thing.
- 41:30Speaker 3: But he says that we can change is like, what
- 41:31Speaker 3: are the I know, I know the offensive line, which
- 41:34Speaker 3: we know changes on a weekly basis.
- 41:36Speaker 4: We're going to write a sternly worded letter.
- 41:38Speaker 12: Seven lines for seven brothers, right, I mean, and you know,
- 41:41Speaker 12: and the receivers are all you want to see those
- 41:43Speaker 12: guys stand there.
- 41:43Speaker 4: I got that. You like that, No, but I got
- 41:45Speaker 4: it old musical, right, seven Brides for seven Brothers.
- 41:49Speaker 12: I don't know was that a song that that was
- 41:50Speaker 12: an actual music.
- 41:51Speaker 4: I'm surprised that you're being just as you are. I'm
- 41:55Speaker 4: surprised you didn't jump.
- 41:56Speaker 3: I didn't take you weren't in a production of it
- 41:58Speaker 3: at n eighth grade.
- 42:00Speaker 12: I wasn't good. I was kind of I had enough
- 42:02Speaker 12: credits at Holy Cross to be a music minor, and
- 42:04Speaker 12: I did take American Musical theater.
- 42:07Speaker 4: I think was one of the classes I learned today,
- 42:09Speaker 4: well not today, but just in general. And Duce has
- 42:12Speaker 4: an uncanny knack of impersonating singers. Oh yeah, like he
- 42:16Speaker 4: first of all, he can carry a tune.
- 42:17Speaker 12: Well who did I?
- 42:18Speaker 4: Who did who? Today? He was doing.
- 42:21Speaker 12: I hit those high notes, I got the high rate.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Like it was very good. I couldn't carry a tune
- 42:27Speaker 4: if I had a handle on it, I.
- 42:28Speaker 12: Told, I told Paul, I was in the Velvet Tones
- 42:30Speaker 12: in seventh grade. It was the district chorus. It was
- 42:33Speaker 12: in Altel and uh, yeah, I just undiscovered talent singing.
- 42:36Speaker 12: You're welcome, Jill, call me, I'll come on, I'll come
- 42:39Speaker 12: down to Nashville. You can you know we could do
- 42:40Speaker 12: do maybe? But uh anyway back to the locker room,
- 42:44Speaker 12: her from you know Douglas again to who still big
- 42:48Speaker 12: smile on his face. He's Jacksonville hometown guys, so he's
- 42:50Speaker 12: excited to do against Jacks.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Did he do any of that?
- 42:54Speaker 12: No, no, fortunately, But although Tamara, which I should have gotten, Yeah,
- 42:58Speaker 12: she'sn't like Jags wear it. She's got like she's some
- 43:01Speaker 12: kind of like is it a jaguar print a leopard print?
- 43:04Speaker 12: I can't tell what's the difference between a leopard and jaguar.
- 43:06Speaker 12: But yeah, she looked like she was here from from
- 43:09Speaker 12: the Jags report.
- 43:09Speaker 4: She was embarrassed.
- 43:10Speaker 12: She realized it too, were like you look like it
- 43:12Speaker 12: for the Jacks, and she's like, oh my god, I
- 43:14Speaker 12: can't believe it. So maybe even get a picture of.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Hey, if you're the production crew going into this game,
- 43:21Speaker 3: is it a CBS game? I forget?
- 43:22Speaker 4: NFL network?
- 43:23Speaker 3: Oh, NFL network, do you request Mac Jones for your
- 43:26Speaker 3: production meeting? Oh? Lordy, I wouldn't know.
- 43:31Speaker 4: And unless it's like stories that he's gonna play, yeah,
- 43:34Speaker 4: and I haven't seen that.
- 43:36Speaker 12: It was a fake account, y, fake account try to
- 43:38Speaker 12: give us.
- 43:39Speaker 4: I get you.
- 43:40Speaker 12: No.
- 43:40Speaker 4: I was like my wife, No, Max gonna play some day.
- 43:43Speaker 12: I go No, just because you put something on a
- 43:45Speaker 12: graphic doesn't mean it's true, right, but yeah, I mean
- 43:50Speaker 12: he sounds like he's excited. I mean we heard from
- 43:52Speaker 12: Hunter Henry to those guys excited to get overseas. But
- 43:55Speaker 12: I think the bottom line, everybody realizes like they need
- 43:58Speaker 12: to win, and I think they need you know, the
- 44:00Speaker 12: good start was a big part of it. They talked
- 44:01Speaker 12: about starting will in practice say that was another thing
- 44:03Speaker 12: I like from Girods That was interesting to me, where
- 44:05Speaker 12: they said we just start and we kind of have
- 44:06Speaker 12: a competitive period where it's you know, today they're going
- 44:09Speaker 12: to be in the red zone, but just trying to
- 44:10Speaker 12: work on getting right out there and you know, having
- 44:13Speaker 12: some competition. So they all talked about starting fast. What
- 44:16Speaker 12: was tetrich wises, how do you start fast?
- 44:19Speaker 4: What is it this? I already shared this with what
- 44:22Speaker 4: is what is the key to starting fast? Be prepared?
- 44:25Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 44:26Speaker 3: What did you think about that comment? Yeah?
- 44:30Speaker 12: Well, I just I mean I think to me, it's
- 44:32Speaker 12: it's as much preparation, but it's just being ready to play.
- 44:35Speaker 12: And I mean, I don't know if those are exactly
- 44:36Speaker 12: the same thing.
- 44:37Speaker 3: To me, it's well, when if he was given a chance,
- 44:40Speaker 3: he would probably walk it back that way. I raised
- 44:42Speaker 3: my eyebrow, so.
- 44:44Speaker 4: I said you know again, Mike, we're sitting in the
- 44:47Speaker 4: back because you know, good looking PF you members are
- 44:51Speaker 4: to be seen and not heard, right, so you and
- 44:54Speaker 4: I are sitting in the back. That answer comes out
- 44:58Speaker 4: and not even a sniff of a fallollow up question. Well,
- 45:01Speaker 4: when you say more prepared, I mean, is that like
- 45:04Speaker 4: a game plan thing? You guys don't feel like you're
- 45:07Speaker 4: ready to play at the start? The intensity levels, Like.
- 45:09Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 45:11Speaker 12: I love when you flex your big J muscle on
- 45:13Speaker 12: the on the crowd. I think you need to be
- 45:15Speaker 12: up there like spring.
- 45:15Speaker 4: I know it's easy, and I know that that opens
- 45:18Speaker 4: me up to criticism, and it's valid criticism because I'm
- 45:21Speaker 4: allowed to ask questions, and I generally, because I work here,
- 45:25Speaker 4: I generally step back and let the Capitol j journalists
- 45:29Speaker 4: do their job. Like That's how I've done it for
- 45:31Speaker 4: a long time now. So it's an easy Well, you know,
- 45:35Speaker 4: big tough guy, why don't you that's not a hard
- 45:38Speaker 4: that's not a hard follow up question.
- 45:39Speaker 3: No, it's just you're looking for clarification.
- 45:41Speaker 4: I'm just looking. He just said something. He's a big boy.
- 45:43Speaker 4: He knows what he said. What he said, like, he
- 45:45Speaker 4: just said something. Ask him to clarify it. Just like
- 45:48Speaker 4: two weeks ago when Girod said, you know, winning the
- 45:51Speaker 4: way we did against Cincinnati was not sustainable.
- 45:55Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Someone asked him a follow up and said, what what
- 45:59Speaker 4: did you mean as what is exactly wasn't sustainable? And
- 46:02Speaker 4: he clarified, you can't win games scoring sixteen points. We
- 46:06Speaker 4: don't didn't generate enough offense.
- 46:08Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like someone should have asked teachers wise what
- 46:12Speaker 4: exactly he meant by that. Yeah.
- 46:14Speaker 12: Now I'm curious to see what team comes out in London.
- 46:16Speaker 12: That's for sure. They seem like they're they're hearing everything
- 46:19Speaker 12: and they understand where they're at. But they got to
- 46:21Speaker 12: go out. They need they need to play well, especially
- 46:23Speaker 12: the defense.
- 46:24Speaker 3: All right, let's get back to the tpx heutline. Justine
- 46:29Speaker 3: is in North Carolina. What's up, Justine?
- 46:31Speaker 11: Hie Hi?
- 46:33Speaker 3: It's what? Yeah? You get talking to the end to
- 46:38Speaker 3: your phone?
- 46:39Speaker 4: Ye hold it like a pizza.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's not you're not talking. Keep going, Okay, I.
- 46:46Speaker 11: Have three things to bring up. I am so so
- 46:50Speaker 11: happy that finally we got to my taru he I did.
- 47:00Speaker 11: I think whenever what needs to happen? And I agree
- 47:05Speaker 11: and when m Gerard's dead, we need to take care
- 47:09Speaker 11: of him. That's the first thing I thought, because he
- 47:12Speaker 11: cannot get hit like he was hit, and most of
- 47:15Speaker 11: the quarterback they're not the team. The line is not
- 47:19Speaker 11: letting them get hit, you know, they're protecting them at
- 47:23Speaker 11: all calls. And I think that's probably what he meant
- 47:27Speaker 11: about making changes. He needs to get somebody up there
- 47:30Speaker 11: that's gonna protect the quarterback at all time.
- 47:33Speaker 3: But Justine, that's going to be easier said than done
- 47:36Speaker 3: given the injury situation and then just the overall lack
- 47:40Speaker 3: of talent on offensive line. I think he meant more
- 47:43Speaker 3: just support in terms of defense as well. Keep keep
- 47:47Speaker 3: the game competitive so that you know, when we score
- 47:50Speaker 3: twenty one points, we don't lose by twenty Yep. You know, yeah,
- 47:55Speaker 3: I hear you. But thanks for the call, Tar Heels, go,
- 47:58Speaker 3: tar heels. Yep. Joseph New Hampshire, what's up, Joe?
- 48:03Speaker 13: Hey, guys, I was gonna ask. I know part of
- 48:09Speaker 13: its reminder Stevenson's not healthy right now, but do you
- 48:11Speaker 13: think there's a chance that the running game can improve
- 48:14Speaker 13: this season with Stevenson coming back? Or is the offensive
- 48:18Speaker 13: line just two injured too.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Well, even with the offensive line. I think overall, the
- 48:27Speaker 3: running game's been decent and obviously.
- 48:29Speaker 12: If it can be good enough, yeah, it can be
- 48:31Speaker 12: good enough.
- 48:31Speaker 4: I mean, I think the run game is the least
- 48:34Speaker 4: of the problem. Day they couldn't run the ball.
- 48:36Speaker 3: No, no, but but he's without But assuming he comes back,
- 48:39Speaker 3: running game isn't what we're worried about right now.
- 48:41Speaker 13: No, right, but pretty much you think the running game
- 48:44Speaker 13: improving with Stevenson coming back, that'll open up even more
- 48:48Speaker 13: play action.
- 48:48Speaker 3: It should if they do it right.
- 48:50Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Well, do you mean even with Drake May?
- 48:54Speaker 4: No, I don't. I think that they need to have
- 48:58Speaker 4: more weapons to get a better Yeah. I think the
- 49:01Speaker 4: teams are going to sort of start playing a little
- 49:03Speaker 4: bit differently against May than they did present. We'll see.
- 49:08Speaker 4: But no, I think the teams are going to be
- 49:11Speaker 4: very content to allow you to run the ball all
- 49:13Speaker 4: you want.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Well, okay, we should take.
- 49:16Speaker 4: There's very few Baltimore's out there high powered rushing attacks.
- 49:19Speaker 12: I just I just need to not I just need
- 49:21Speaker 12: some production and some balance to the offense. That's that's
- 49:23Speaker 12: more of what it is. You're not gonna win with
- 49:25Speaker 12: the with the running game. But I think it goes
- 49:27Speaker 12: back to the conversation we had yesterday of you know,
- 49:29Speaker 12: if Drake is able to start hitting some of these
- 49:31Speaker 12: deep passes. I mean, I just I can't tell you
- 49:33Speaker 12: how much it means to me, because it's you have
- 49:35Speaker 12: to make the defense respect easy to defend, and the
- 49:39Speaker 12: hardest thing to defend is when you have a team
- 49:41Speaker 12: that can hit the deep ball, or at least have
- 49:43Speaker 12: the threat of it.
- 49:44Speaker 3: You know.
- 49:45Speaker 12: And I think they talked about some plays being left
- 49:47Speaker 12: on the field too again Evan said it. I saw
- 49:49Speaker 12: it again today. I mean, Jacksonville's gonna play a lot
- 49:51Speaker 12: of too high safety, so you know, you shouldn't have
- 49:54Speaker 12: these stack boxes. So hopefully Ramondre is out there, you know.
- 49:58Speaker 12: I mean, this is one of these weeks.
- 50:00Speaker 4: I wait, I think they'll run the ball better on
- 50:02Speaker 4: Sunday than they did certainly last week. But you know
- 50:07Speaker 4: what you have to hope is the production increased as
- 50:11Speaker 4: the game went on. You have to hope that's because
- 50:14Speaker 4: Drake may got more comfortable as the game went on,
- 50:16Speaker 4: got better as the game went on, and made more
- 50:18Speaker 4: good plays than bad as the game went on, as
- 50:21Speaker 4: opposed to he threw for one hundred and eleven yards
- 50:23Speaker 4: when they were down twenty seven to seven, right right,
- 50:27Speaker 4: and sixty of those came on one drive at the
- 50:29Speaker 4: end of the first half in a two minute drill.
- 50:31Speaker 4: So what you have to hope is it wasn't circumstantial
- 50:35Speaker 4: increase in production because I want to say, through three
- 50:39Speaker 4: and a half quarters he had thrown for one hundred
- 50:41Speaker 4: and eleven yards, and then he got another one hundred,
- 50:45Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty one hundred and thirty.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Yeah, when the game's still a game.
- 50:49Speaker 4: The last couple of drives that were you know, it's
- 50:52Speaker 4: kind of game set match by that point. So did
- 50:56Speaker 4: that production, you know, did that come because Drake May
- 50:59Speaker 4: was getting Well, that's kind of what I think. I
- 51:02Speaker 4: think Drake May got more comfortable, he settled down a
- 51:04Speaker 4: little bit. Unfortunately it was too late at that time.
- 51:08Speaker 4: But I think maybe this week you could say he's
- 51:11Speaker 4: got those jitters out of him. He's going to open
- 51:13Speaker 4: the game the way he closed it. Yeah, you know,
- 51:16Speaker 4: playing against a lesser defense, like I think there's reason
- 51:18Speaker 4: for optimism for all that.
- 51:20Speaker 12: I liked what he had to say today just about
- 51:22Speaker 12: understanding what defenses are doing. And also you know, he
- 51:24Speaker 12: said in himself explicitly, like, I know they're going to
- 51:26Speaker 12: start to throw some different stuff at us, but he
- 51:29Speaker 12: seems acutely aware of like who he is as a
- 51:31Speaker 12: rookie quarterback, what they're trying to do to him, you know,
- 51:34Speaker 12: And now he's starting to learn how NFL defenses really
- 51:37Speaker 12: start to throw curveballs at you.
- 51:39Speaker 3: You know.
- 51:39Speaker 12: One other thing I would just say with the running
- 51:41Speaker 12: game is we heard all summer about this wide zone
- 51:43Speaker 12: and how much it's about being in sync and everybody
- 51:46Speaker 12: taking that step together.
- 51:47Speaker 4: And all that kind of how it could possibly be
- 51:49Speaker 4: in sync.
- 51:50Speaker 12: Well, how could you possibly be in sync with you know,
- 51:51Speaker 12: Ben Brown, who's been there for three days, you know,
- 51:54Speaker 12: and a left tackle who is you know, kind of
- 51:56Speaker 12: a journeyman, practice squad guy, so hopefully practice this week again.
- 52:00Speaker 12: I was just trying to make the point of I'm
- 52:02Speaker 12: so curious to see when Evan comes back. Who's out there,
- 52:04Speaker 12: Stevenson out there? You know, is Vaderian Lowe out there?
- 52:06Speaker 12: I mean, and you know, for as much as we
- 52:08Speaker 12: want to crap on the offensive line, I mean, Vaderian
- 52:09Speaker 12: Lowe did okay a couple of weeks ago, it was okay,
- 52:12Speaker 12: you know, and he's been out there a lot, he's
- 52:14Speaker 12: gotten a lot of experience. If they can get back
- 52:16Speaker 12: to that group, then you know, maybe they have a
- 52:18Speaker 12: little bit. It's a sad state because you're right, like
- 52:22Speaker 12: we said, like, where are the changes gonna come? Who's
- 52:24Speaker 12: you know, who's going in, who's going out? Yeah, I
- 52:27Speaker 12: don't know.
- 52:27Speaker 4: You already are dealing with the backups, right. The backups
- 52:30Speaker 4: are the guys that you're hoping can play Valerian low.
- 52:33Speaker 12: Right well with the offensive line too. It's like you
- 52:36Speaker 12: can either choose to play city so or you can
- 52:39Speaker 12: choose the new center that they just signed off of
- 52:41Speaker 12: somebody's practice squad. I mean they're raiding practice squads right
- 52:44Speaker 12: now for centers. Those are talked about that too.
- 52:47Speaker 4: I didn't mention that, Budet, do you have the name?
- 52:50Speaker 4: So unfortunately we will no longer be hearing from sincere
- 52:53Speaker 4: anything here.
- 52:55Speaker 12: But shoot, I didn't. I didn't grab my ro So.
- 52:57Speaker 4: They signed another are off of someone's practice squad. Love
- 53:02Speaker 4: was lovidious. Let's say that's it something like that. Ye,
- 53:09Speaker 4: I can't vetus.
- 53:11Speaker 12: Levetass just put the pronunciation. I should have brought my.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Sheet, so I'll have to look it up now.
- 53:19Speaker 12: That's the state they're at right now.
- 53:20Speaker 4: And they signed another center for the practice squad and
- 53:23Speaker 4: they swat. They made a practice squad swat.
- 53:26Speaker 12: I'm talking as well as a cornerback. But that's you know,
- 53:28Speaker 12: that's where they're at right now. They're rating practice squads,
- 53:30Speaker 12: trying to find depth at center. And you know, I'm
- 53:33Speaker 12: always of the mind of maybe maybe there's a diamond
- 53:35Speaker 12: in the rough. You know, I kind of have a
- 53:37Speaker 12: positive outle like at first Paul. Paul's beaten most of
- 53:39Speaker 12: it out of me with like practice squad guys, but
- 53:42Speaker 12: I still have you know, you give a guy like
- 53:44Speaker 12: Ben Brown a chance, and he's been a journeyman, and
- 53:46Speaker 12: you know, this is his opportunity, this is his Tom Brady,
- 53:48Speaker 12: you might not get another one kind of a chance.
- 53:50Speaker 12: And every now and then, it's not common, it's certainly
- 53:53Speaker 12: not the rule, but every now and then those guys
- 53:55Speaker 12: get an opportunity and they just start to click and
- 53:57Speaker 12: they get it, and all of a sudden, we're going
- 53:59Speaker 12: into the off season with like, hey, we found this
- 54:01Speaker 12: Ben Brown kid. So if Andrews can't come back, we
- 54:03Speaker 12: feel pretty good about him.
- 54:04Speaker 3: I mean, David Andrews himself was undrafted, right.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Ye, undrafted. It's not the same as getting signed off
- 54:10Speaker 4: as someone's practice squad. No, he was undrafted, came here,
- 54:14Speaker 4: made the team out of camp, and was the starter
- 54:16Speaker 4: on day one.
- 54:16Speaker 3: Okay, because we didn't have anybody good, but that's all right, Nope, but.
- 54:20Speaker 4: He was good and earned the starting job.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Well, maybe maybe this guy can too.
- 54:25Speaker 4: And again when I you know, Mike is teasing me
- 54:28Speaker 4: and I get that, it's Lasidas Smith Smith. Forget Smith
- 54:35Speaker 4: Smith from Green Bay's practice squad. They also signed Miles
- 54:39Speaker 4: Battle to the practice squad and released Hansworth, so it
- 54:43Speaker 4: wasn't the center on the practice squad as a cornerback
- 54:46Speaker 4: for a center on the practice squad. My thing isn't
- 54:49Speaker 4: to sort of beat that out of anybody like that.
- 54:52Speaker 4: I'm just saying it's I don't ever think that signing
- 54:56Speaker 4: someone else's practice squad cast off is you know, has
- 55:01Speaker 4: any more than like a lottery ticket, right, I'm not
- 55:04Speaker 4: telling you they never work. Yes, the odds of that slim.
- 55:14Speaker 12: I just thought of one more quick. I know we're
- 55:15Speaker 12: gonna go to break here in a second, but another
- 55:17Speaker 12: like potential move christianellis maybe maybe he gets a little
- 55:20Speaker 12: bit more time. He's been kind of a dime linebacker
- 55:23Speaker 12: subpackages kind of thing. Maybe they give him a shot
- 55:26Speaker 12: at one of those, at one of those possible.
- 55:28Speaker 3: All right, we will take a break. We'll get back
- 55:30Speaker 3: to more of your emails at podcasts at Patriots dot com.
- 55:34Speaker 3: Although I have one email from Mike and Connecticut. He asked,

- 57:29Speaker 15: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 57:33Speaker 15: Now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 57:38Speaker 6: Scoring are doing start number two?
- 57:49Speaker 16: Yeah, I think the first off is pricked the football.
- 57:52Speaker 16: Our defense put them some bad spots, but that we
- 57:55Speaker 16: have some stuff to build on, stuff build on film.
- 57:58Speaker 16: I'll get her on the football and I'll help. And
- 58:00Speaker 16: then for me, just I feel like I was seeing
- 58:03Speaker 16: it pretty well. Just you know, missed that first one
- 58:05Speaker 16: across the middle of pop and then kind of kind
- 58:08Speaker 16: of kind of groove later on the pop. But we
- 58:10Speaker 16: got some guys in the huddle, I can make some
- 58:12Speaker 16: plays and my jobs to get to them and let
- 58:14Speaker 16: them do their thing. What is it like hitting and.
- 58:17Speaker 6: Keeps work with?
- 58:18Speaker 4: What are some things with him that you don't necessarily have.
- 58:22Speaker 6: To consider when they come different?
- 58:24Speaker 16: Yeah, you know you can't. You can't garden in a
- 58:26Speaker 16: phone booth. He's a tough to garden, you know, man coverage,
- 58:29Speaker 16: and he's got an act to find his own. So
- 58:31Speaker 16: he's a He's a great, great guy to have out there,
- 58:34Speaker 16: and it makes my job a little easier. And anytime
- 58:37Speaker 16: you see a man match up, you know, Pop is
- 58:39Speaker 16: somebody that you want to go to. And we have
- 58:41Speaker 16: guys on the outside. I can make players that he's
- 58:43Speaker 16: saw them on Sunday as well, So we looking forward
- 58:46Speaker 16: to you know what the guys we got and also
- 58:48Speaker 16: with our tight end group, we got some some mismatches,
- 58:51Speaker 16: so we've got a lot of stuff that makes it
- 58:53Speaker 16: tough on the defense. Just gotta kind of find the
- 58:55Speaker 16: right way to do it and do my part.
- 58:59Speaker 7: Here.
- 59:00Speaker 4: He had mentioned after the game, he said that.
- 59:01Speaker 1: He's got that spot I run through a wall for now.
- 59:04Speaker 17: What's it like to have that kind of support one
- 59:07Speaker 17: of year receiver?
- 59:07Speaker 16: Yeah, I think it means the world, and you know,
- 59:09Speaker 16: gives me confidence. I think those guys do a great
- 59:11Speaker 16: job of pumping me up. They're putting me up throughout this,
- 59:13Speaker 16: throughout the game, on the sideline, before the game, in
- 59:16Speaker 16: the huddle, they do a great job. And you know,
- 59:18Speaker 16: I think the wide receivers you know they got they
- 59:20Speaker 16: always got the most slags are guys. You always got
- 59:22Speaker 16: some slag. So uh, you know, it's it's good. It's
- 59:25Speaker 16: nice to hear something like that and just know for
- 59:27Speaker 16: those those guys and try to do the same for them.
- 59:31Speaker 17: Do you do you see the offense evolving around.
- 59:35Speaker 12: You when you're skill set?
- 59:38Speaker 16: I think yeah, anytime, you know, with the quarterback, I
- 59:40Speaker 16: think kind of the offense kind of is tailored towards
- 59:43Speaker 16: you know, who's who's under center and who's.
- 59:45Speaker 6: You know, getting snaps and getting the ball all your play.
- 59:47Speaker 16: So I think a VP, he's done done a nice
- 59:50Speaker 16: job asking me what I like and what you know,
- 59:51Speaker 16: what I don't like, and what I feel comfortable with,
- 59:53Speaker 16: and I think they'll continue to grow is the weeks
- 59:55Speaker 16: go by.
- 59:56Speaker 6: So that's something that we're kind of trying to figure out.
- 59:58Speaker 16: And at the same time as some than that, I
- 1:00:00Speaker 16: think can make it tough on the defense because I
- 1:00:02Speaker 16: feel like we can do a lot different things and
- 1:00:05Speaker 16: I can kind of make it hard for the defense
- 1:00:07Speaker 16: doing some different stuff that.
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: Your confidence gives them confidence and curs your confidence.
- 1:00:13Speaker 16: Yeah, my confidence comes from I think, uh, just moving football,
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: moving football and just finding completions. I think any quarterback
- 1:00:20Speaker 16: you kind of get more confident, you know, getting first downs,
- 1:00:23Speaker 16: find completions, making a good throw or making you know,
- 1:00:26Speaker 16: the right throw. That's the best biggest thing, making the
- 1:00:28Speaker 16: right throw. And at the same time you get confidence
- 1:00:31Speaker 16: from from others. And it's just like in I want
- 1:00:33Speaker 16: to get pumped up and I try to remind myself
- 1:00:34Speaker 16: on the sideline kind of be the voice of pumps
- 1:00:36Speaker 16: some guys up and other than that, just try to
- 1:00:39Speaker 16: kind of build my role as a leadership role each
- 1:00:41Speaker 16: and every week as I try to earn the guys
- 1:00:43Speaker 16: respect for your interest.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: So playing goods a little easier as the game long
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: than you.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Would expected because you're making money a little a little harder.
- 1:00:59Speaker 16: Yeah, I think kind of obviously the first game of
- 1:01:01Speaker 16: the Texans, you kind of you can see kind of
- 1:01:03Speaker 16: we call the flavor of the day, what do the
- 1:01:05Speaker 16: Textans want to do, you know, they want to kind
- 1:01:06Speaker 16: of heat us up, play man kind of what these
- 1:01:08Speaker 16: defense are trying to do to us that day. I
- 1:01:10Speaker 16: think it's kind of easier to kind of get a
- 1:01:11Speaker 16: picture of what they want to do on specific where
- 1:01:14Speaker 16: it's down down distance or certain guys what they want
- 1:01:16Speaker 16: to do, or hey, they want to you know, kind
- 1:01:19Speaker 16: of put a spy on me what they want to
- 1:01:20Speaker 16: do kind of defensively, I think it's kind of it
- 1:01:22Speaker 16: was easier for me to kind of see what Textans
- 1:01:24Speaker 16: trying to do to us as we got kind of
- 1:01:26Speaker 16: down the road in the game. And I'm sure some
- 1:01:28Speaker 16: teams will trying to mix it up down the road,
- 1:01:29Speaker 16: but kind of easier for me as the game went along. Hey,
- 1:01:32Speaker 16: they're trying to do this, we can exploit them these ways.
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: It's been a live product of confidence you have. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah,
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: and I pad helps too.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: So is having been through a league, having seen the
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: game now at NFL speed, been through it done there,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: had some success.
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: Does that give you more confidence this week now as
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: you prepare for your second game?
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: No?
- 1:01:53Speaker 16: No, I think it just you know, as a week
- 1:01:55Speaker 16: go on, I think get more more confident, especially you
- 1:01:57Speaker 16: know with the game plan stuff. And I'll be a
- 1:01:59Speaker 16: little different this week going over overseas, but I had
- 1:02:01Speaker 16: to figure that that out. But at the same time
- 1:02:03Speaker 16: going out there and I understand the plan and understanding. Hey,
- 1:02:07Speaker 16: I like to you know, studying this you know last
- 1:02:08Speaker 16: week and can can carry that on or hey, I
- 1:02:11Speaker 16: asked TC to do something different in the quarterback room
- 1:02:13Speaker 16: so we can get on the same page with with
- 1:02:15Speaker 16: different looks.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Have you ever been out of the country.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: I have you.
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: I had some family.
- 1:02:19Speaker 16: I lived in London, my uncle did and me and
- 1:02:22Speaker 16: my family went to the Olympics in twenty twelve.
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: Out there, just.
- 1:02:25Speaker 9: Taking your second start on the international stage.
- 1:02:28Speaker 16: Yeah, I think, you know, helps getting that first one,
- 1:02:30Speaker 16: you know, last week, you know, going overseas to a
- 1:02:32Speaker 16: you know, to London to play in front of a
- 1:02:35Speaker 16: you know, a big crowd out there. It would be
- 1:02:36Speaker 16: pretty cool to you know, see the NFL you know
- 1:02:38Speaker 16: side of it playing overseas. So excited to go over
- 1:02:40Speaker 16: there and they've got a chance to get a win
- 1:02:43Speaker 16: and hopefully kind of start stacking them.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Who lived in who lived in Love still there?
- 1:02:50Speaker 9: Uh?
- 1:02:50Speaker 16: Yeah, they've brigally moved to the California so they play basketball. Yeah,
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: he plays in Japan. It's far away from London on Sunday. Yeah,
- 1:03:00Speaker 16: these days out he does does a nice job of support.
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: So I'm just curious, when you've reviewed your first game
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: from the other day, were there moments or were their
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: plays that you looked at He's and you maybe look
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: back now and say yourself, I'm not sure I would
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: have been able to do that had I started week won.
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: Were there moments like that for you where you know,
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: the time that you had to sort of sit and
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: watch behind the scenes really helped you out in a
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: in a certain moment that game.
- 1:03:26Speaker 16: Yeah, I think you know, the biggest thing is kind
- 1:03:27Speaker 16: of you know, the run checks and them, you know,
- 1:03:30Speaker 16: different looks to get us in the best run. I
- 1:03:32Speaker 16: think that's the biggest thing of you know, watching Jacoby
- 1:03:35Speaker 16: do it and watching how he does it and you'll
- 1:03:36Speaker 16: bring in guys that block the right guys. I feel
- 1:03:38Speaker 16: that's kind of the thing that I didn't really you know,
- 1:03:42Speaker 16: kind of really look at until I look at the film, like, hey,
- 1:03:45Speaker 16: you know, I feel like, you know, in the run game,
- 1:03:46Speaker 16: I did mostly everything that that asked and you know,
- 1:03:50Speaker 16: the right execution. So I think that was the biggest
- 1:03:52Speaker 16: kind of sigh relief of seeing all different run looks
- 1:03:55Speaker 16: under center, seeing you know, seeing it and getting the
- 1:03:57Speaker 16: guys blocked up. So just got to continue to do that.
- 1:04:00Speaker 16: And I think the passing game, like I'll see it well,
- 1:04:02Speaker 16: just got to make some better throws.
- 1:04:04Speaker 18: Your first completion was under center play action mood.
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: You had pressure right away.
- 1:04:08Speaker 18: That's something new relevant to what you're doing in college
- 1:04:10Speaker 18: under center turning around, how comfortable have you been in
- 1:04:13Speaker 18: those settings? Understanding sometimes when you do turn your back
- 1:04:16Speaker 18: to the defense, the picture could change from what you
- 1:04:18Speaker 18: saw recent.
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: You know. I think that's that's something that in practice
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: that you get up.
- 1:04:22Speaker 16: We've done a nice job of getting some under center
- 1:04:25Speaker 16: reps of a play action, and you know our defense
- 1:04:27Speaker 16: is a good job of you know, flipping up the
- 1:04:28Speaker 16: coverages and changing the picture post snap and that's something
- 1:04:31Speaker 16: that you know, really is starting to kind of understand
- 1:04:34Speaker 16: and learn of the picture. I'm seeing you when I
- 1:04:37Speaker 16: first get the snap verse, when I turn my back
- 1:04:38Speaker 16: and look at it, maybe different. So just trying to,
- 1:04:40Speaker 16: you know, find my checkdowns or find an outlet and
- 1:04:43Speaker 16: that'll be something that I'll kind of build towards, and
- 1:04:46Speaker 16: then other than that, try to exploit them with matchups.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: Thank you, Thank you, And now great moments in history.
- 1:05:00Speaker 12: I allowed to call out other PEW listeners slash callers
- 1:05:02Speaker 12: if so, I would like to call out Todd in
- 1:05:04Speaker 12: North Carolina for being a fraud whoa a week or
- 1:05:07Speaker 12: two ago, you called him out for all the background
- 1:05:09Speaker 12: noise when he called into the show. He claimed he
- 1:05:11Speaker 12: didn't know why there was so much noise, and then
- 1:05:13Speaker 12: he might have been doing dishes or something. I have
- 1:05:15Speaker 12: a hard time believing this story. Why would he know well,
- 1:05:18Speaker 12: why would he not know what he was doing when
- 1:05:20Speaker 12: he called him the show? It seems like something you remember,
- 1:05:23Speaker 12: Love you Todd, just having fun and then he calls
- 1:05:27Speaker 12: us out for our background noise.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: So let's go to Todd, North Carolina. Todd, if you
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: called it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: Perfect, if you did that on purpose, mate, that was good,
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: well done, my friend. No, I don't think you did
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: it on purpose. All right, that's another great moment. All right.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: Many of those little things that you completely forget and
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: as soon as you hear it, you're like, oh, I
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: remember that.
- 1:05:55Speaker 12: We do a lot of talking.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Yeah, we do. Back here on Patriots Unfiltered A five
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: to five pass five hundred is the TPX hotline podcast
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: at Patriots dot Com. It's Paul Duson Fred Evan will
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: be coming by later. Can we play that song one time?
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: I just want to give people another Listen to that
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: song I've never had before ny groove.
- 1:06:14Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, was the mood?
- 1:06:19Speaker 8: Look, who's back from the locker room?
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: What was the mood?
- 1:06:23Speaker 17: Where the players friendly to that?
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: None of them look like Devin Henry, Hey, Mike, what
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: was it like in the locker room?
- 1:06:33Speaker 12: Like?
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: What was it like in locker room? Stuff?
- 1:06:39Speaker 12: Just right right to the point, short, sweet, Yeah, I ideal,
- 1:06:42Speaker 12: great job, Joe, great, way better than Evan's song, way
- 1:06:45Speaker 12: better and way better than I a I think Matt did,
- 1:06:48Speaker 12: which I think he was working on an AI song
- 1:06:50Speaker 12: for you.
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: Paul. Yeah, I don't need that now, I don't need that.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Brian and Ireland right saying he says, I'm heading to
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: London for the game. I'm not on Facebook, so I
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: couldn't get a ticket for the Patriots meet up in
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: the Greenwood Pub Saturday night. Is there any other meetups
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: as I would love to buy you all beers as
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: a small token of appreciation for all the hours of
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: great content. Well, I know I was told by Warren
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: Ladd of the UK Patriots that on game day they're
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: meeting up at a place called the green Man Pub,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: which is at Wembley. It's not in the stadium, but
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: it's right by the stadium. There's no tailgating in England,
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: so you know, people usually get there by trains.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Because you have to drive on the.
- 1:07:32Speaker 12: Steering like maybe, but I don't.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Most people take public transportation to get to the game
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: and then they just go in, but they do their
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: partying beforehand in pubs or whatever. So the green Man
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Pub is where the UK Patriots will be the morning
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: of the game.
- 1:07:48Speaker 12: So they're charging tickets to meet kersh.
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: No, No, there's no cost, it's just limited.
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: You'll receive total consciousness, right.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: Yeah, no, but it's just I think the ven the Whold,
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: like seven hundred people or something already sold out. So
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: I just have that day, ChRI, I have.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: A word from overseas.
- 1:08:07Speaker 12: I just I just heard from you know, coming out
- 1:08:10Speaker 12: of a head.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: We're going to you know, Matt, Matt you know the
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: Yeah Smith. I don't know you think noolog his interim
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: pre and postgame show hosts Matt Smith.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: Uh, you just standing in the party. Know it's talk.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: And I was like, like second. So I just texted
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: him because he asked me, you know, if we had
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: a special guest host for the weekend. I said, yes,
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: we do. He is, he's coming back, and uh, you're
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: on thin ice because I wanted to see if I
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: could get on the.
- 1:08:47Speaker 12: Glasses started the same.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: But he did tell me like my people. So I
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: was texting back and forth to Matt and Matt is
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: with Warren and Chris Fred, you know, some of our
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: UK regulars, and then they saw my name pop up
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: on Matt's phone and maybe it's Matt quote Matt, because
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: it was like it was Tom Brady.
- 1:09:07Speaker 12: Do you think that's kind of like when people like
- 1:09:09Speaker 12: like the nerds go to like a Game of Thrones
- 1:09:11Speaker 12: convention and they're all excited and they get like and
- 1:09:13Speaker 12: this was the guy who played dragon Holder number three,
- 1:09:15Speaker 12: Like when they see Matt and Matt, you know, like
- 1:09:16Speaker 12: they're all excited, it's just you know, poor Matt. Matt's man,
- 1:09:20Speaker 12: oh oh, show host. Where's they're They're not here? Thank
- 1:09:30Speaker 12: you please.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: That's good.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: I'm telling you. By the time Fred gets there on
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: like Friday, Matt's gonna be like in the feudal position
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: of a pub.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: You Matt, you know a lot of people are excited
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: about Hardy coming on the show.
- 1:09:47Speaker 12: Yeah, well yes, he talked about it this morning. You
- 1:09:49Speaker 12: asked me a little little hit and told him we
- 1:09:51Speaker 12: were very excited. He asked about the breaks, you know, like, well,
- 1:09:54Speaker 12: it's only a poower goes, he.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: Goes, So can I assume we'll get one break in
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: that two hour boats?
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: I heard him?
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: We are two in there, right? I think we take
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: two breaks in the post game, do we not?
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: We're not?
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: You tell them we're doing three hours after?
- 1:10:08Speaker 12: We know we should we should, we should keep keep
- 1:10:11Speaker 12: mp it up.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: You know what.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: I'll wait till he gets here because I don't want
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: to back up.
- 1:10:14Speaker 12: Right, we had that, We took the first hour from
- 1:10:16Speaker 12: the pregame pre doing that on them.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: We got to get we got to get it all
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: right to my red zone time.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: Louis from Switzerland rights In says, why did I have
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: to see Drake as a guest on EEI in what
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: looked like your studio. If there's a Patriots podcast that
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: should If there's a Patriots podcast that should get him
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: as a guest, it should be you guys. I know
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: Paul hates player interviews, but hearing Drake and Evan talk
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: x's and o's one on one would be pure porn
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: for all the ball knowers and ps. I'll be in
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: London for the game. Let me know which five guys
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: are McDonald's. You guys will be having lunch at so
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: you can privately show me all the emails you got
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: for Bill when you said something wrong during the show.
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: Man, I would just say I, and I say this
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: with no hyperbole at all. I can't think of anything
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: I would rather listen.
- 1:11:04Speaker 12: To less than Evan and Drake talking all.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: But yes, that is that's not a guest. Drake May
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: is not a guest on w E I contracts tractual
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: paid appearance. The starting quarterback appears with and it is you.
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: You were right, it is our studio that they do that.
- 1:11:23Speaker 12: I get a little jealous when I see those things
- 1:11:24Speaker 12: when they're when EI set up in here, and I
- 1:11:27Speaker 12: understand that I'd have to listen to it to be
- 1:11:31Speaker 12: jealous of it. You know, we should have morele have
- 1:11:33Speaker 12: no interest in that at all. Get like some just
- 1:11:34Speaker 12: print like the you know e I like just prints
- 1:11:37Speaker 12: and just like you know, hang it up over so
- 1:11:38Speaker 12: it looks like yeah, but we.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: Would have felt I felt really bad Andy. Andy texted
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: me Monday. It was probably about eight o'clock or so.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: He's like, did you did you listen to the Drake
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: May inter your I go, no, why what happened? I
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: mean we thought Andy did something stupid, Like I just yeah,
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: you know, I'm pretty consistent. Every once in a while,
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: a play like Kurt Schilling back in the day for
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: the Redstocks. You used to say some ridiculous, like outrageous things,
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: and he was worth listening to because you never knew
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: what stupid thing he was gonna stay The next week right,
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: I will forfeit that guy, that one guy that's interesting
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: to not have to listen to the hundreds and hundreds
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: of other guys that just give me, Well, we just
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: got you know, we just gotta execute better. We gotta
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: play that. And this is no disrespect to Drake. Mate.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: We had him on our show the day after he
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: was drafted and it was great. I loved I loved
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: getting to meet him. I thought he was a really
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: cool guy.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: But like I think these interviews a lot of it
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: has to do with the interview were I mean, some
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: people are better at.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: It, everybody's really bad at it. There being the interview world.
- 1:12:43Speaker 12: It would just be hard every week having to come
- 1:12:44Speaker 12: up with new questions and all we got with Drake coming.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: Up and already really hard.
- 1:12:51Speaker 12: And you want to try to provide insight. But and
- 1:12:54Speaker 12: it's also just always weird to me when you have
- 1:12:56Speaker 12: two radio show hosts who have been on the radio
- 1:12:58Speaker 12: for an hour, like tearing the tea a part of it,
- 1:13:00Speaker 12: and here's Drake. So Drake, how's it going? You know,
- 1:13:02Speaker 12: Like we weren't just talking when.
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: They had him, they were literally saying, geez, I hope
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: he doesn't walk in in the middle of me saying that.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: It's kind of like when we do the good, the bad,
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: and the injury after a win, we have a player
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: and we're in the middle of the bad list, and
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: then all of a sudden joining us right now, Brandon Bolden,
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: Who the joke there is? Brandon Bolden was the post
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: game guest after a lot of wins.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: All right, Eldred's on the line. What's up, Eldred? Hey?
- 1:13:30Speaker 9: Both, are y'all doing today?
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Hey?
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: Hey Mike?
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:13:36Speaker 12: Thanks man? I well, thank Joe?
- 1:13:39Speaker 9: Hey, can ask you all questions? Sending a lot of
- 1:13:41Speaker 9: trade going down. Do you think mister Wolf can just
- 1:13:46Speaker 9: try to get a third bow left tackle, you know,
- 1:13:49Speaker 9: get the wide receiver part, which I wouldn't mind having
- 1:13:51Speaker 9: that egg, but you need to tackle the hip that quarterback.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: I'm sure if there was somebody out there that was available,
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: he would be burning up that phone line.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: I like, I wouldn't be stunned if they acquired a
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: left tackle. I would be stunned if it was a
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: left tackle. Who's going to solve your left tackle problems?
- 1:14:08Speaker 11: Right?
- 1:14:09Speaker 12: That's right, It's gonna be one of these kind of
- 1:14:10Speaker 12: practice squad.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: It's got to be just the right situation a team
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: that's not in it, or that has a tackle that's
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: disgruntled or you know, yeah, it has to be just
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: the right situation because.
- 1:14:20Speaker 9: No one's maybe maybe Cleveland, you know, because they like
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: I said, I didn't know hop Tunes or a Marii
- 1:14:26Speaker 9: Cooper or that there because nobody never did them. But
- 1:14:30Speaker 9: teams made trades and they got him.
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: Yep, you know, well Amari Cooper held out in the
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: that one didn't. Yeah, Amari Cooper held out all summer.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: Like that's the epitome of a disgruntled player, veteran that
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: could be available. Yeah, when it doesn't go well.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: And then when you start losing, right because they gave.
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: Him some money and then you start losing. Cleveland is
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: kind of like Jacksonville. Cleveland was a playoff team last year, right,
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: they thought they would be good. They've been terrible.
- 1:14:57Speaker 12: They liked I like that move for Buffalo.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: It's a great move for Buffalo, but like, that's not
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: a great move for the Patriots.
- 1:15:02Speaker 12: No, I just real quick, you know, someone had suggested
- 1:15:05Speaker 12: because we're playing the Jags, as they wrote in I
- 1:15:06Speaker 12: think the walker little third tackle, second round pick from
- 1:15:09Speaker 12: a couple of years ago with the Jags, as you know,
- 1:15:13Speaker 12: potential kind of trade candidate those are you know, that's
- 1:15:15Speaker 12: kind of people suggesting is he on his rookie contract? Yeah,
- 1:15:19Speaker 12: there'll be a free agent this year. Yeah, so like,
- 1:15:21Speaker 12: so what's the point? Get them?
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: Get them in free just sign them in free agency?
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: James is in England? What's up? James?
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: Have things?
- 1:15:31Speaker 8: Guys?
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: Is this James pettigrews the most interesting Patriots fans?
- 1:15:37Speaker 12: Well, you better live up to the moniker because he's
- 1:15:39Speaker 12: been saying this.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: But Mike, you've never met this man, and I want
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: you to pay attention.
- 1:15:44Speaker 10: I'm on I'm on the wait list for the party,
- 1:15:46Speaker 10: So if any other listeners then not take it. Meet
- 1:15:49Speaker 10: me outside. We're going to bum rush the event. Patriots.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: I have no doubt that you have several ways of
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: entering that party.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: I have a feeling this is going to turn out
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: to be like that World Cup game in Miami.
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: Oh now, I'm glad.
- 1:16:03Speaker 10: I'm not going to be like if a handful of
- 1:16:06Speaker 10: guys can like bum rush Congress and like start passing doors,
- 1:16:10Speaker 10: we can bum rush a like pub in England. It
- 1:16:12Speaker 10: shouldn't be too difficult.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: Here's a very specific set of skills.
- 1:16:15Speaker 12: Yeah, those miss money penny apparently.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: So what else, James? Is that all you want to
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: tell us to warn us that you'll be doing nothing much?
- 1:16:21Speaker 10: I shall, hopefully if if you can swing me a tickets, Bread, great,
- 1:16:25Speaker 10: If not, I'm on the wait list. But I know
- 1:16:27Speaker 10: you guys finished. The event finishes at ten, so if
- 1:16:30Speaker 10: we have to start after.
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: Ten, so be it.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: Don't worry. I'll take care of you.
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: James. You'll still be there.
- 1:16:36Speaker 10: Very very good, Bread. I look forward to it.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: Okay, I'll see you Saturday night.
- 1:16:41Speaker 10: Very good, guys, looking forward to seeing everyone again and
- 1:16:44Speaker 10: catching up.
- 1:16:44Speaker 12: All right, thanks James, I got a little fomo now,
- 1:16:46Speaker 12: a little a little fear missing out, so I will
- 1:16:49Speaker 12: That sounds like it's.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: Gonna I will say, and I've you know, I always
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: did that. I did that.
- 1:16:54Speaker 12: This is cool.
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: I would absolutely love to be at that party.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: This is going to be wild.
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: I would love to be at that if for nothing else,
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: to heckel Fred who's hosting it? Right? That would be
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: fun me and you could just be Oh, I'd.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: Be bringing you up on stage, believe me, you would.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: You would not be just watching how many mill of
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: lights would I've had by that time a lot? So
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: an alcoholic the other day and I wasn't happy. I didn't.
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: I didn't take too kind to that. No, someone on
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Twitter said, it's a sure sign of an alcoholic.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: What was your sign?
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: I don't know. Just there was a clip of us
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: talking about my centers.
- 1:17:28Speaker 12: That was on Oh, that was great clip, that was
- 1:17:30Speaker 12: really fun.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: I didn't like that. No, Like, you know, we joke
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: around about like mill of lights and stuff, but like
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: I have, I have like two mill of lights a month.
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: Yeah, but when you partake, you're good.
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: I'm a happy drunk. You have to admit that.
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: Oh, absolutely, I've never seen you angry when you're drunk.
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: No, it's all the other times.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it's when you're not. You need to be drunk,
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: is what was what you need? Especially when you go shopping,
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: you know, when you're interacting with people, you need to
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: be drunk.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: If I go shop, that's a great idea. Although Beth
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: doesn't make me go shopping anymore. No, she buys your
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: Do you get tired when you shop?
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:18:10Speaker 12: I know what I want.
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: I go in again, and when I immediately get tired,
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: I hear you that's how much I dislike the whole.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Oh my mother would remember when you were little, Your
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: mother would take your clothes shopping and your legs would
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: just collapse. It's like you you you had no interest
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: in It's like.
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: I was more, I was a fifty two year old.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: I just I immediately get tired if I even look
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: at them all. Yeah, I can't.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: I pretend they fainted at midnight Mass once because I
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: just wanted to get the hell of midnight mass.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: That is such bad karma.
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: I pretended.
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: Let's just go on, Let's see. Jake writes the completely
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: agree with Paul about Draw should not be making it
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: the Drake may show. This team needs to be unified
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: right now. We talked earlier about you know, Mike.
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: That was in reference to though we need to do
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: more to support Drake. Yeah, you know, like we need
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: to be a better team. Right, It's not about one guy.
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: We didn't need to do any more to support Drake
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: than we did to support Jacoby in the first five games, right, Tom,
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: they need to play better.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Yeah, with all of Poke's struggles as of late, I'm
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: curious what you guys thought of a d Mitchell during
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: the draft process, great route runner from Texas, four to
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: three speed, bigger than pok had some criticism about taking
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: plays off, but I don't get how he fell to
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: the end of the second not exactly lighting it up
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: in Indie, but he was always but he's always open.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: We had it was some off field stuff for him.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: He dropped like a stone in the draft.
- 1:19:40Speaker 12: Yeah, I lost track of him.
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: He's been just okay, but they've also had a mess.
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: Well you know, they lost Rick Richardson and they flats
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: like it's been a little uneven there. Yeah.
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: I'm not giving up on Poke by any means, but
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: he doesn't really have the traits for me to be
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: super hopeful for his ceiling. Thought he had insane hands
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: in college, but but he's showing the opposite of that
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: right now. No, I think that the hands will come back.
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: Just one game. I'm not worried about the hands.
- 1:20:06Speaker 12: I think so too.
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: I mean that.
- 1:20:07Speaker 12: So they asked Douglas about in the locker room, do
- 1:20:10Speaker 12: you think you're going to get more attention this week?
- 1:20:12Speaker 12: And he's like, well, if they do, it's gonna open
- 1:20:13Speaker 12: some stuff up for some other guys. So it'd be
- 1:20:16Speaker 12: great to see maybe Polk have a little bit of
- 1:20:19Speaker 12: a game, you know, get some confidence. I mean, I
- 1:20:21Speaker 12: think too, maybe I wonder if that whole touchdown that
- 1:20:24Speaker 12: wasn't affected him mentally a little bit, you know. It
- 1:20:27Speaker 12: just he's had a lot of like ups and downs
- 1:20:30Speaker 12: and kind of riding the wave of I just caught
- 1:20:31Speaker 12: a game when he touched down my first touchdown and like,
- 1:20:33Speaker 12: actually it didn't and he's confused about it, and you know,
- 1:20:36Speaker 12: I think that might be part of the mental block
- 1:20:38Speaker 12: that Jara talked about with him, is you know, hit
- 1:20:40Speaker 12: the reset button and get back in there what you
- 1:20:43Speaker 12: did all summer.
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: Next, next game. Lucas writes in I cannot hear another
- 1:20:48Speaker 3: person say that the line needs to do whatever it
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: takes to protect May. The line is not good, not talented,
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: not disciplined. They try to protect him. Obviously we averaged
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: like three holds a drive. They're trying to bend the
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: rules to help him out, but obviously you can't do that.
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: It's a lack of talent. There's just not much starting
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: caliber players that can do at this point unless we're
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: playing the damage Miami defense. May's a tough kid and
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: takes pride in being tough. It's football. Injuries happen. Hopefully
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: nothing happens, but patience. Everyone love the Drake or hate
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: the Drake, just know that they are trying.
- 1:21:27Speaker 12: I mean, I agree with the general sentiment. I just
- 1:21:30Speaker 12: like to give them the same clove guys for a
- 1:21:32Speaker 12: few weeks and just, you know, let them continue to develop.
- 1:21:35Speaker 12: Because I do think, regardless of how talented or not
- 1:21:37Speaker 12: you are, when a bunch of five offensive linemen play
- 1:21:41Speaker 12: together week in week out, for you know, going back
- 1:21:43Speaker 12: to the summer, and you're able to get and rhythm
- 1:21:45Speaker 12: and sync together, that it can be better. I don't
- 1:21:48Speaker 12: expect it to be great, and I think there'll always
- 1:21:50Speaker 12: be some breakdowns and some issues here and there. They
- 1:21:52Speaker 12: just have to survive this year with this line, and
- 1:21:54Speaker 12: then it has to has.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: To have I agree with you to the extent of
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: the little sense, like it's been so bad that it
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: can be better, Like you like, you should reasonably be
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: able to expect to give up pressure less than half
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: the time, which is almost what they've done through six games. Right,
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: it's like forty eight something for that and they're in
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: the thirties, like they're at the bottom of the league,
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: you know, and I know that maybe not dead last,
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: but they're in that neighborhood. Yeah, like you can reasonably
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: expect to be better than that. But I don't think
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: you can reasonably expect to be good, not with what
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: the personnel that they have. I agree with the email.
- 1:22:32Speaker 12: It might be able to get the serviceable.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: Maybe I don't know. I don't know.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: Pats and Agawama on the TPX outline. What's up pat?
- 1:22:41Speaker 19: Heyfternoon?
- 1:22:41Speaker 12: Everyone.
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: Hey.
- 1:22:44Speaker 19: I got a couple questions, one for PAULI and then
- 1:22:46Speaker 19: one for the group. Paul Drake may as far as
- 1:22:49Speaker 19: like your top five favorite Patriots drafts of all time?
- 1:22:53Speaker 19: Does he land in the top five? Because I know
- 1:22:56Speaker 19: Drew You're number one?
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: I hope so, I mean, but like, can I see
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: him play before I make that determination.
- 1:23:03Speaker 19: I just mean like in terms of, like, you know,
- 1:23:07Speaker 19: when they drafted Drew and I was the same way
- 1:23:09Speaker 19: in ninety three when they took him, I was like
- 1:23:10Speaker 19: excited because it was a new era. I felt like
- 1:23:13Speaker 19: when they drafted Drake, this this was kind of I
- 1:23:17Speaker 19: didn't have the same excitement because I was a lot
- 1:23:19Speaker 19: younger back then and that was probably more fanatical.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: But now I am I am excited about Drake may I.
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: I like the skill set, I like the idea of
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: what they looked at and uh, they're going to try
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: to develop. But yeah, I can't put him in top
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: five drafts until he plays.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: Yeah, no, but I get what my top five. Yeah,
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: I get what Patty's saying. Like, I think what he's
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: saying is, at the time of the draft, we're like, oh,
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: I'm so glad they took that guy. Like at that time,
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: you know, I haven't been excited about anyone really like that.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: I'm trying to think.
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: I mean, Gronk, I was gonna sayn Gronk was one
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: of those for me, I mean more so for Andy.
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: Andy really really and was a big But I like
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: that when I really like Chandler Jones when they drafted him. Yeah, sorry,
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: Chandler obviously drew pat Patty brings out to think of
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: some other ones. Yeah, I really like Gonzales when they
- 1:24:16Speaker 4: drafted We're all like really excited about that Picky when
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: they when they picked him.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: I'll tell you who I was excited about at the
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: time they drafted him, and shortly later, you know, my
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: excitement Wayne was Lawrence Maroney. Yeah. I remember when they
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: drafted him, was like, all right, we got this running
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: back dynamic.
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: You know, I do you think I reacted to that pick?
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: Get him on your own time?
- 1:24:36Speaker 12: That probably, but you probably, like Chad.
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: Jackson I did. That's another one. That's another one I
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: was very excited about. Yeah, see, like that's good. I'm
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: glad you bring that up because I don't want it
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: to sound like, oh wow, Yeah, Paul was really excited
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: when they drafted the greatest tight end who's ever played.
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: I also was very excited when they drafted a wide
- 1:24:53Speaker 4: receiver who absolutely couldn't play.
- 1:24:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:24:55Speaker 12: I mean speaking speaking strictly about like I mean, I
- 1:24:58Speaker 12: didn't watch them draft Tom Brady I and like, you know,
- 1:25:00Speaker 12: like that, but for ones that I specifically watched, especially
- 1:25:03Speaker 12: when I was so embedded in it with Gronk where
- 1:25:06Speaker 12: coming off of that lost to Baltimore and he put
- 1:25:09Speaker 12: that helmet on and was sell like it was just
- 1:25:10Speaker 12: like this is what this team needs right now, just
- 1:25:13Speaker 12: an influx of personality and life and you know, just
- 1:25:17Speaker 12: you could tell that he was just going to be
- 1:25:19Speaker 12: a force out there and that was I mean that
- 1:25:21Speaker 12: to me in terms of like blogging, you know, being
- 1:25:24Speaker 12: watching the draft and taking it in every second. I
- 1:25:26Speaker 12: think Gronk would.
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: I remember when they had the number one pick. This
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: is when I was really young, probably just in high school,
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: when they had the number one pick and they took
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: Kenneth Simms. The at the time, Will McDonald was the
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: guy like he had all the information, and I remember
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: there was constant speculation number one pick, who they're going
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: to take, and Will McDonough had like all these capsules
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: of guys and obviously Kenneth Sims was one of them,
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: but Tippett was also in that. And I really when
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: they ended up getting tipp It in the second round.
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: I remember people thinking of him as a possible ability
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: in the first round, and I was like, in the
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: second round, they got this guy that everybody was talking about.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: I think it was more of like if they traded
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: down like tip it could be a target. And I
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: remember being really excited about that second round pick in
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: tipp It again Hall of Famer. You know, I got
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: it easy, but only because of how people were talking
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: about him leading into it. I didn't, you know, as
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: a high I was that like eighty four, eighty no,
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: eighty two, maybe eighty two. I think it was eighty two.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: So I was, like I was entering my freshman year
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: of high school. I didn't watch Iowa football, right, I
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: didn't know Andre Tippet. I just was reading about him
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: and getting excited, you know.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Experience out of us.
- 1:26:47Speaker 12: Because I was I was a capital, but like I
- 1:26:50Speaker 12: knew his name and he was kind of the face
- 1:26:51Speaker 12: of big defensive college football at that time. And Ted
- 1:26:55Speaker 12: Johnson too. I remember when they drafted Ted Johnson being
- 1:26:57Speaker 12: I was like linebackers, and I thought that was, you know,
- 1:26:59Speaker 12: my favorite position, and he just that Teddy J.
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: Just ty Law, Ted Johnson, Curtis Martin.
- 1:27:06Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, it's weird. I remember that draft, like, and
- 1:27:10Speaker 12: it was Tyler looked like such the prototypical I love
- 1:27:13Speaker 12: my Meg friend, such the prototypical cornerback. Like to me,
- 1:27:18Speaker 12: was he up there twenty four something? I mean, just
- 1:27:20Speaker 12: look at him like he is. That that's just like
- 1:27:22Speaker 12: if you want to design what a cornerbacksually look like
- 1:27:24Speaker 12: that I really I really liked.
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: And Teddy J.
- 1:27:26Speaker 12: Was the same way as a linebacker, like just this big,
- 1:27:29Speaker 12: giant guy. And then I remember Curtis Martin being like
- 1:27:32Speaker 12: third rounder like this for some reason that draft. Really
- 1:27:35Speaker 12: he had the same.
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: That's why he was the third round. And then I
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: remember watching the year before that Freddie brought up was
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: considered to be like that kind of all around linebacker. Yeah,
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: there was excitement on me plus about USC.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: Is anyone wearing fifty five these days? I don't think so.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: I was watching the game. I didn't anyone.
- 1:27:53Speaker 12: I thought it isn't that their number.
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: That they retired? But did they retire it because of Junior?
- 1:27:57Speaker 17: Say?
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: I was death? Oh, I don't know.
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: I don't either, I don't, but I know that if
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: you've got to wear fifty.
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: Five and where the guy that's forty four with Syracuse? Yeah,
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: what else you's got eighteen?
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: Yeah, So I can't I think in honor of say Oh,
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: you would keep it out there.
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: I just speculating if you didn't see it, I'm wondering
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: if sure.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: We have a USC fan out we have everything else? Yeah,
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: John Wright saying, he says, I want to apologize to
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: Paul Freddie read my email about defending poke in more
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: of an angry tone. Shot. I know Polke's comment about
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: the media was during training camp. I'm just a fan
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: of the guy and feel he will bounce back, which
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: you guys stated after I emailed in.
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and I said that beforehand. That's the only thing
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: that I took exception to it.
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: He said, I am leader of die PEPSI on him.
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: I am not out on Polk, And I said that
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: before like I was, I'm disappointed in Polk. That's not
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: you know, it's I sound like a father, like it's
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: not the same thing. I'm not out on Polk like
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: I just I and I think that there's some of
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: some of the problems that I've seen so far aren't
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: about ability. Yeah, it's about sort of a mindset. Yeah,
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: you know, I got to get more focused, not getting
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: thrown off, like Girod said today, like you know which,
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: but more discipline.
- 1:29:18Speaker 12: More which which makes it more interesting him trying to
- 1:29:20Speaker 12: snap out of it because you feel.
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: Like it might be you know, like I said, I
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: wouldn't to see him catch five balls on Sunday for
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: like seventy five yards. I wouldn't shock me at all.
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: I'm not calling for it, but I yep, you know,
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: I can. I can see Fred Collen in the post game.
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: We do you think a pulk now?
- 1:29:37Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: Alec and Berlin. Fred did the shorts come off on
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: the first, second or third touchdown.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: No, it was shirt sure and he lost a button,
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: but he didn't really say. I mean they went down
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: twenty at the time, so he didn't really go off.
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: I was showing clean, but I didn't I didn't go
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: all out.
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: It was really the kid in the front row of
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: the press box that on the pants off on the
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: pick market Jones's interception.
- 1:30:01Speaker 12: He was like, whoa, I haven't seen that before. Arms
- 1:30:03Speaker 12: going up in the air.
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: Young fella.
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: My great for Drake a solid B, but I could
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: go as high as an A minus. He threw three touchdown.
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: Pass ignored all the bad place you could do that.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: He threw three touchdown passes behind a Patrick O' line
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: that would make Betsy Ross blush. Badard has seen no
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: change between North Carolina Drake and his current development. Isn't
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: he the same guy who thought nothing of Gronk?
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: That is correct, But I would agree with that assessment.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: Everything that I saw Sunday I saw in North Carolina.
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: That's what I don't understand. Why so many people, why is.
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: That a bad thing? He was drafted three overall.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: Thank you, Fred Kirsh. You know, like people ask me
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: like Did he exceed your expectations? Did he fall short?
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: I was like, no, like he was. That's I saw
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: this all summer, right. I know we can run around.
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: I know we could throw the ball downfield. I know
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: sometimes he sprays it a little bit, like we saw
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: it all.
- 1:30:55Speaker 12: I'd say one thing, and and I said, on the
- 1:30:57Speaker 12: rad of this morning, we didn't really see the huh
- 1:30:59Speaker 12: huh the double pump like that. And I thought that
- 1:31:02Speaker 12: was something the summer that was pretty consistent.
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: I think you saw that on the strip, Sack.
- 1:31:07Speaker 12: I have to look at it again.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: The only thing, the only difference is it's not training camp.
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: So someone hit a hit on the double pump. Evan
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: actually brought that up yesterday. But no, I would agree
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: with you, like I saw a lot of good things
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: that there's a Fred just nailed it.
- 1:31:21Speaker 12: Like that's why is the third old bit?
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: Saying that he looked like the North Carolina Drake May
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: is not an insult. The North Carolina Drake May allowed
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: him to be the third overall pick in.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: The draft, exactly right.
- 1:31:32Speaker 12: And if you didn't, and I don't take that of
- 1:31:33Speaker 12: an insult, right.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: I thought he made a lot of really good plays
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: at North Carolina and there were some things that he
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: needs to work on because he tries to do too much.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: But you know, I listened to that. Why I heard
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: snippets of the Badard thing on your show, Paul.
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: I missed this.
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: Evan had twelve positive plays and nine negative plays for May,
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: but Dard had eleven seventeen negative, but eleven positive, eleven positive.
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks for listening yesterday. Yeah, when I gave those numbers,
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: so you did, and that's why I was curious to
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: see what Evan had for negatives. He only had nine
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: non negative nine yeah. Yeah, So I think there's probably
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: somewhere in the middle of that. Seventeen seems high nineteens.
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: What's what's the positive and what's the negative play?
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: That's a subjective, but they were both basically the eleven twelve.
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: They were both basically the same on positive. That's a
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: pretty big gap on negative. Yeah, So my guess is
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: it was somewhere in between. And my guess is Evan
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: didn't count them all.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: And my guess is, but you know, his eyes went
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: left and they should have went right. Correct put too
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: much on him. Yeah, Market Fall, River Rights and I
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: was away this weekend, didn't get to watch the game live.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: I tried my best to not read or see too
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: much about Drake's performance before I was able to watch
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: the game last night, so my opinion wasn't influenced by
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: what others were saying. The few things I saw were
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: very complimentary of may imagine my surprise when I actually
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: watched the game. It's okay, I thought to myself, I'll
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: listen to the postgame show for some good analysis. It
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: took about forty three minutes, but Paul finally showed up.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: I'm in general agreement that there were some positives, but
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: you would have thought the guy just had a great game.
- 1:33:15Speaker 3: Judging by the local reaction. I'm as excited as everyone else,
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: but I'm also appreciative that I can turn to Patriots
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: dot com and get level headed analysis and occasionally Fred
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: being a homer.
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: So do I get any points for going forty three minutes?
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: That's pretty good for me. That's pretty good for me.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: But I would say that the local react. I think
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: he's right about the local reaction, but I don't really
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: care about that. I only care about how I thought
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: Drake may looked, and I am really excited about how
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: he looked I saw a lot of bad stuff too,
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: but I'm really excited about the good stuff I have that.
- 1:33:49Speaker 12: Fair, Yeah, I think it's fair. I mean it's a
- 1:33:52Speaker 12: rookie quarterback, the position you need most, the thing you've
- 1:33:55Speaker 12: been searching for all your life, you know here since
- 1:33:57Speaker 12: Tom Brady left, and you come out of that and
- 1:34:00Speaker 12: you like, forget about the game. You just my feeling
- 1:34:03Speaker 12: is we might have the guy. We might have the guy,
- 1:34:06Speaker 12: And that, to me was the biggest takeaway.
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: But do you feel like better that you might have
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: the guy than you did before the game, because I don't.
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: I feel exactly the same.
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: I'm I am. I was just relieved that it wasn't
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: a disaster.
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: See I didn't. I must be overlooking. Maybe I'm guilty
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: of whistling past the graveyard, but which I often accuse
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: everybody else. Listen, I did not think that was even
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: going to be a remote chance.
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: No, But but I listened. I shouldn't be swayed by
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: what I hear. But like I had six weeks of
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: telling of people telling us you can't start.
- 1:34:41Speaker 12: Up this year.
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: He was gonna get killed, blah blah blah, and it
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: was anything but that. And I was just relieved to
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: see that.
- 1:34:50Speaker 12: You know, it was that proof of concept.
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: I shouldn't listen to all I shouldn't have listened all
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: that crap, because again, I was someone who wanted him
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: to start Week one.
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but you know, I shouldn't say like
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: I had Zi, like I had like like one percent
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: like it. It can always be a disaster, Like the
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: first half of the game was kind of a disaster.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: Well but it was, yeah, but right, I mean, they
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: weren't producing, but you.
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: Know, and he wasn't producing, like don't turn this into
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: like he's the quarterback of the offense at it. And
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: they didn't move the ball really at all until it
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: was twenty seven to seven. They had one drive when
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: it was twenty seven, you know, thus the seven. But
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: I again, I think it's fair to say he was
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: getting his feet wet, he settled himself down. I think
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: listening to him and Mike was there, but I listened
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: to him during our break, Yeah, like responding to adversity.
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: You know, I missed Pop on the early play. You know,
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: those are positive signs. I think he got better as
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: the game went on. Yeah, I think that you can say,
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: like I wasn't overly surprised with how you know, how
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: he performed. It can come off as a negative. I
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: said this to Mike when we tap we taped all Access.
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: I said it to Mike Reese. We were asked that
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: better and I was like, no, it's about what I thought.
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: He goes to me he exceeded expectations, and I interrupted him.
- 1:36:10Speaker 4: I said, but you obviously didn't think as much of
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: him as I did. That's why he didn't exceed my expectations.
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: Well for the Irish game, three touches, I didn't think
- 1:36:19Speaker 3: in his first game he'd had three touches.
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: Can we not get lost with the three touchdowns? No,
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: I think like when two of them were when they
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: were down by twenty point.
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: Where when they happened he threw for three touchdown.
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: But what I'm saying is he threw for two hundred
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: and forty yards. The offense really didn't move the ball
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: consistently at all during the game. That's what young quarterbacks do.
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: Like that was a Gardner Minshew performance.
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: I know, but it was his first game coming in
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: in Week six.
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: All the negative eye, I'm just think I think more
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: of them than a lot of other people do. I
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: would have taken him over Jayden Daniels. I've said that
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: at the time, I say it now and I still
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: and I still say it. I think more of May
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: than some other people that thought he was going to
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: go out there and turn the ball over seven times,
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: because I didn't think that was going to happen.
- 1:37:02Speaker 12: I don't think that you think more of him than
- 1:37:04Speaker 12: me than you.
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: I well, not than you, you know.
- 1:37:07Speaker 12: And I know it's an interesting question though when you asked,
- 1:37:09Speaker 12: because I've really I've been thinking about here for the
- 1:37:11Speaker 12: last second, like did I what did I think? And
- 1:37:13Speaker 12: I honestly just think I needed to see it in
- 1:37:15Speaker 12: a game to truly believe it. That's fair, you know,
- 1:37:17Speaker 12: That's That's what I knew. It was there, and we
- 1:37:20Speaker 12: saw it a lot. But I've also seen some guys
- 1:37:22Speaker 12: pop out on the practice fields and training camp fields
- 1:37:24Speaker 12: and you get onto the game.
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: Field, and you know what else I think could happen? Mike,
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: you know, And I think Mike and I are pretty
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: much aligned with with Drake May. Evan is on Planet Zippy.
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: He doesn't like Mike and I I think are in
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: a different level than than than Evan. But I don't
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: rule out that game that you're talking about. I don't
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: you know, I don't know if it's probably gonna happen
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: in one of these eleven games, Like we're like, oh
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: my god, Like he just turned around and through it
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: right to the guy, like some of that stuff.
- 1:37:55Speaker 12: They all do it right, the right defensive coordinator gets
- 1:37:58Speaker 12: a beat on what they're doing and step ahead.
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: And like Paul said, they're going to start playing him differently.
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: They're gonna but and he's not gonna play as well
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: in one of these games, you know, like that. I
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: I just think, I think this guy is really talented.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: And I'm not trying to say I'm the only one.
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: A lot of people think he's really good. A lot
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: of people just think he needs time to develop. And
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: I am in that camp too, And.
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: The development started on Sunday.
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: And that's why I think it was the right move
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: to play him, and it will be the right move
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: to continue to play him. But I'm not like deceiving
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: myself into thinking it's only going to get better every game. No,
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: there's gonna be there's gonna.
- 1:38:35Speaker 12: Be peaks and valleys getting over.
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: But Caleb Williams, you know, the first game he played
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: was not really good. They won, but he did just
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: enough to win the game, and mostly it was defense
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: and special teams and stuff. But you watch him six
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: weeks later, and he looks like a whole different guy.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: Right, And that's what you hope, progression, that's what you
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: hope because he's.
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: Like incredibly talented.
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Calabuoyant.
- 1:39:01Speaker 12: I think that's why I'm excited this week. Just I've
- 1:39:03Speaker 12: been re energized with watching the rest of the season
- 1:39:05Speaker 12: and it's.
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: Just me too. You know.
- 1:39:06Speaker 12: The old offense, it was like here we go get
- 1:39:08Speaker 12: you know, the same kind of thing. But now it's
- 1:39:10Speaker 12: anything's on the table, and even if the game ain't
- 1:39:12Speaker 12: going great, like you know that there's always a chance
- 1:39:14Speaker 12: that he's going to make a play all of a
- 1:39:15Speaker 12: sudden that makes you you know.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: We have a vested interest in the game now, yeah,
- 1:39:20Speaker 3: you know, like there's something that tangible that we need
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: to monitor.
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: But I do think, like you know, back to the
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: email's original point, and I like Mark Bertrand who I love,
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: you know, and I do like pregame shows with him,
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: The Beatle on one of my shows, you know, he
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: took like a victory lap on Monday, Like I told
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: you I told you, like you told me what you
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: told me that they could lose by twenty points if
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: they put the rookie. You told me that they could
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: turn the ball over four times if they put the rookie. Like,
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: don't just tell me that he could throw a forty
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: yard touchdown pass. Yeah, Like, that's not all that happened
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: on Sunday. Like to the emailer's point, that's what it
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: kind of sounds like. But listening to the analysis around here,
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: it's funny. But except for my show that I'm gonna
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: go and do in about an hour, where Felger is
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: just like completely pulling a Fred Kurt. He's taken. He's
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: not only moved the goalposts, he's disassembling them and putting
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: him in another stadium. Now, this is not what this
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: is not. This is what you people want it. You
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: just want the quarterback to go out there and play.
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: It doesn't matter if you lose by twenty boo, who Like,
- 1:40:27Speaker 4: why did Mike Felger become the person who taught us
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: all that we should want to win and not lose?
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: Right Like you talk about the straw man argument, he's
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: arguing with people, Oh, I can't wait for this afternoon,
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: trying to pretend that we're happy that they lost forty
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: one to twenty one. Like, see, this is what happens.
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: This is you'd be one of those teams draft being about,
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: you know, tank draft, tank draft. That's what we want,
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: That's what everybody's looking for. No one wants to win
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: any games except for Mike Felger. That's great, who understands
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: the importance of trying to win.
- 1:41:04Speaker 12: You use this, You should use this on the show.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: John and La writes in I was one of the
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: fans who came away happy from Sunday's twenty point loss
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: to the Texans. This season is about development, and while
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: May's performance can't be called great, the moments of greatness
- 1:41:21Speaker 3: were really encouraging. Watching him learn the craft of quarterback
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: play is exciting and I look forward to more, while
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: acknowledging that there will also be more frustrating rookie moments
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: as well. One more quick thing, I assume that there
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: was a time in the NFL's past where a quarterback's
- 1:41:37Speaker 3: willingness or even desire to run around and make plays
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: off platform as opposed to staying in the pocket and
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: on script led to teams not drafting the player or
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: coaching it out of him, or simply not playing it.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: If that's true, can you think of any former NFL
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: quarterbacks who were perhaps ahead of their time or had
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: a skill set that was deemed not disciplined enough for
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: the league. If so, can someone at Patriots dot com
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: write an article on it, Michael Bishop.
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: I'm going to pass on the writing the article on it.
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: But Roger Staubach, Tom Landry despised him when he got there,
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: and that's why he kept splitting him with Craig Morton.
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: You can't do it that way. You got to run
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: the play, stay in the pocket, blah blah blah blah blah.
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: And then finally he was just so good.
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: That was Frank talking to them.
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: They moved on. I don't know if he got the
- 1:42:26Speaker 4: pushback from Bud Grant like Tom Landry gave Stabach, But possibly.
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: Was Michael Vick ahead of his time or was he
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: there were a lot of other guys like that kind
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: of I don't know. What about Randall Cunningham's a good question.
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: I think Cunningham would be like Michael Vick, and he
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: was before Vick.
- 1:42:44Speaker 12: Yeah, I said, Michael Bishop, I was joking.
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: We heard you the first time. I ignored it.
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: But it's a good question, a little bit of a scase.
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: There probably was a time where you know, I'm telling you,
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: guy leaving the pocket was frowned upon.
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: Early seventies Cowboys. Landry was adamantly on Stabuch for not
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: doing what he's supposed to do, and that's why he
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: was reluctant to turn the offense overall. And then finally
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: he was just so good that they just said, Okay,
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: we're gonna have to live with some of this unconventional play.
- 1:43:14Speaker 12: What was the contrast like when you guys were watched
- 1:43:16Speaker 12: practice between Bledsoe and Michael Bishop.
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: Michael Bishop was never a factor.
- 1:43:20Speaker 12: No, he never like he never like even like never
- 1:43:21Speaker 12: a factor as a Patriots It was back when I
- 1:43:25Speaker 12: was a casual.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: Yeah, he ran around. There was a brief second early
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: in the two thousand season that Belichick used him in
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: a third like a red zone, in a third and
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: short package to colossal failure. I remember the Monday night
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: game Week two at New York. But you remember that
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: he kept coming in and he kept failing, and then
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: Bill stopped.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: Doing him of the game. They brought him in to
- 1:43:52Speaker 3: throw the hail Mary.
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: And he threw a duck. I do remember that that
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: was Christmas Eve against Miami. Jed Weaver came out of
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: the locker room and howl.
- 1:44:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: They thought the game was over and they called everybody back.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: It was like Jed Wavers got flip the towel thirteen degrees.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: He's out on the field.
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: The only thing between him and the game being censored
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: was just a stiff wind.
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: That's not all that was stiff. Uh.
- 1:44:17Speaker 12: But who's working blue? Now let's go to well.
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: What's up William thry Bred?
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: How you doing all right?
- 1:44:26Speaker 13: All right?
- 1:44:27Speaker 8: Well, how you doing Paul?
- 1:44:28Speaker 4: And uh, well, what's up?
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: Appreciate you all right?
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Now question football, Paul, do you agree with the fact
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: that with all the neees that the page's knee you know,
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: as far as offensive line, I know, wide receiver just
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: the main, but an edge rusher too. But do you
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: also put maybe running back and sneaking corner is definitely
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: they need another corner and also free stafety too. Do
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: you agree with the assessment.
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: I would say corner definitely.
- 1:44:58Speaker 12: J Jones the free agent, yeah, and my big.
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: On the edge rusher, I agree with that. Free safety
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: kind of a sneaky need. I don't really think they
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: have anybody that feels that.
- 1:45:06Speaker 11: Now.
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: I think they're fine with Douggers, Dugger and Peppers, but
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: who knows about Pepper's future, Like, I don't know how
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: that's going to unfold. So I don't think running back
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: is a sneaky need. I think that they just resigned.
- 1:45:20Speaker 12: Three year deal.
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: I think that they could they could add to the
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: room a little bit so they have more options. So
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: if one guy gets hurt, you're not kind of stuck
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: like you were on Sunday.
- 1:45:29Speaker 12: But we like our guy too, tryl Jennings, so maybe he,
- 1:45:31Speaker 12: you know, sticks around for another year and develops a
- 1:45:34Speaker 12: little bit. Sure, I wouldn't put running back a top
- 1:45:36Speaker 12: the list.
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: No' well, I mean behind all those other spots.
- 1:45:39Speaker 12: I mean a lot of the offense is going to
- 1:45:40Speaker 12: come back. I mean that's you know, they I think
- 1:45:42Speaker 12: that the offense is just select left tackle, big, you know,
- 1:45:46Speaker 12: explosive X receiver, those two pieces and every just about
- 1:45:49Speaker 12: anything else.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: I think it's tight end. I think is in need.
- 1:45:51Speaker 12: Yeah, I think you can hunter, you know, mostly with you.
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: Get another year or so out of hendry. I don't
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: know what you're going to get out of Hooper finally
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: beyond this year, he's one year deal.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: Okay, I just had one more and that's it.
- 1:46:05Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: And this is this is to Elliot Wolf and uh,
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: the scouts and everybody. This might be a little controversial,
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: but I really don't care. I know this is a
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: I know this is Ellie Wolf first, this first season.
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: I get it, you know, but at some point y'all
- 1:46:22Speaker 2: knew y'all was drafting the quarterback and I just I
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: don't know. I never was feeling free agency. I mean,
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: as far as the off season, I just just the
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: rebuild and everything, and you know, and like you just
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: always say every year, you gotta build through the draft.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: You gotta hit on these players, you know what I mean.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: And this build is taking so long.
- 1:46:41Speaker 9: You know, I guess we'll build.
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: It took a couple of years with it, and now
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: you got Ellien Wolf. But I just want to say, like, look,
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: y'all gotta do better this offseason because you stink, seriously
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: and you're kind of pissing me off. Serious, And I
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: watched this every year. It's the thing induced be telling
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: y'all got to bill through the draft. You got him
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: the players and free in Cy too. You definitely have
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: to There's nothing wrong with maybe two three plays. That's it.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: I'm not saying go Blomkers and feet, but you know,
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: just something better than Austin Hooper and kJ Owa. I
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: mean no dispect to those guys, but man, look you
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: need some more.
- 1:47:18Speaker 9: So you need some some some dogs up in here.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: You know you need to need better. You just need
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: you just need better, you.
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: Know than William. I will get the message up to Elliott.
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: Thank you well, Im and Philip. I'm happy.
- 1:47:31Speaker 12: I just say real quick, I mean, at this particular
- 1:47:33Speaker 12: moment in time, and it definitely can change the draft class.
- 1:47:36Speaker 12: After Drake doesn't look great, it doesn't look great. It's early,
- 1:47:39Speaker 12: but at this particular moment in time, folks kind of down.
- 1:47:41Speaker 12: Wallace is hurt, Robinson played and now is not playing.
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: And I have to be fair, Baker can't get on
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: a lot of times that these things that guys play
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: right away and draft classes, you know, vault into oh
- 1:47:53Speaker 4: what a great draft, and I'm like, they've played like
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: five games. Can we wait a couple of years right
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: before we assess it? Which same thing when it doesn't
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: look great? Yeah, I like to be consistent, like, yeah,
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: we haven't seen really anything out of anybody in the
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: draft class yet, but that doesn't mean you won't.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: All right, Evan is back from practice.
- 1:48:14Speaker 11: Evan has returned practice. Evan has returned, has returned from practice.
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: So a lot of people like Mike's song.
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: I got a new song that Mike's got a song
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: Mike Mike's trashing.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: One person still likes Evan's song better, but Mike's song
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: I think is really going to catch up. You didn't
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: hear the New Order. I need to hear it.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: I think they're both excellent.
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, Evan, what happened?
- 1:48:43Speaker 17: Well Patriots?
- 1:48:44Speaker 12: I'm interested. I'm very interested right now, hanging on every word.
- 1:48:48Speaker 12: I don't know. I haven't looked at Twitter. I don't people,
- 1:48:51Speaker 12: I'm not at all. No, I literally not. I just
- 1:48:53Speaker 12: like sometimes you come in and we kind of know
- 1:48:54Speaker 12: what it's gonna be, but I'm com coming.
- 1:48:56Speaker 17: So there are three players missing from Patriots practicing right
- 1:48:59Speaker 17: to the chain. Remandra Stevenson still not practicing, Vaderian Low
- 1:49:05Speaker 17: not out at practice with an ankle injury, and Marcus Jones,
- 1:49:09Speaker 17: who we are a little uncertain.
- 1:49:11Speaker 12: About battling a groin injury.
- 1:49:14Speaker 17: Yeah, maybe that's what it is, but yeah, no, Remandre
- 1:49:17Speaker 17: still did see him in the locker room but didn't
- 1:49:19Speaker 17: see him out at practice, and Vaderian Low DMEO said
- 1:49:24Speaker 17: on Monday he was getting an MRI on the ankle.
- 1:49:27Speaker 17: Mike Gilardi has reported that it's more Yeah, it's not
- 1:49:30Speaker 17: like a severe injury, they don't think. But at this point,
- 1:49:34Speaker 17: and I I've liked what I've seen from Vaderian Low
- 1:49:37Speaker 17: when he plays, but he doesn't play very often, so
- 1:49:42Speaker 17: that's becoming an issue for him, is staying healthy and
- 1:49:45Speaker 17: staying available.
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: So leaving tomorrow tomorrow night.
- 1:49:50Speaker 12: Yeah, so forget it, Just forget it. He's not playing
- 1:49:55Speaker 12: you and I with him sneaky to talk about that later.
- 1:49:58Speaker 17: I think it's because of the defense. You know, his
- 1:50:00Speaker 17: defense isn't playing well. It's just gonna.
- 1:50:02Speaker 12: Imagine and don't bring it up.
- 1:50:06Speaker 3: So I know you don't get to watch a lot. Yes,
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: any indication of who the line, what it would look like.
- 1:50:14Speaker 17: No, they had it in a blender again today, which
- 1:50:17Speaker 17: I think is for us, to be honest with you,
- 1:50:19Speaker 17: I think they're trying to play things a little bit
- 1:50:21Speaker 17: close to the vest. But based off of what we
- 1:50:25Speaker 17: saw at the end of the game, and I would
- 1:50:26Speaker 17: expect that Zach Thomas is probably in line to start
- 1:50:29Speaker 17: at left tackle if assuming Venderien Lowe is going to
- 1:50:33Speaker 17: be out at least this week. That's the way it's
- 1:50:36Speaker 17: it's trending. I guess they could always flip Trey Jacobs
- 1:50:38Speaker 17: back to left tackle and kick on when who back
- 1:50:41Speaker 17: outside to write or you know whatever you know formula
- 1:50:45Speaker 17: you want to get to in that way. But that
- 1:50:47Speaker 17: would be my guess as of today, but it's early
- 1:50:50Speaker 17: in the week.
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: Maybe you move so into one of the guard spots.
- 1:50:54Speaker 12: And I mean, they're an argument to be made though,
- 1:50:57Speaker 12: keep them when you inside, keep the pressure up the middle.
- 1:51:00Speaker 12: I know we can help the edges, but they can't
- 1:51:02Speaker 12: really help the guards. I don't know that just speculator.
- 1:51:05Speaker 3: I think there was an argument to be made for
- 1:51:07Speaker 3: that Drake May second week as the starting quarterback. In practice,
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: you notice a change in his demeanor.
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: Was there an aura around him?
- 1:51:17Speaker 17: Yeah, there's always got around him. I mean he's just
- 1:51:20Speaker 17: got that.
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: Pads today, right, Okay, strong risk game. So they didn't
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: have like stickers that said play for May or anything
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: like that.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: They did not.
- 1:51:30Speaker 12: They did not all the way.
- 1:51:32Speaker 17: May I think The interesting thing with him to me
- 1:51:35Speaker 17: is he's he's pretty hard on himself, you know, like
- 1:51:40Speaker 17: you can tell that he's kind of got that.
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: You know, he's got all you guys to just gloss
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: over the problems.
- 1:51:47Speaker 12: Yeah, seventeen negative plays or nine, Yeah, but.
- 1:51:52Speaker 17: Like you try to, you know, we do try to
- 1:51:55Speaker 17: accentuate the good things. But a lot of the things
- 1:51:57Speaker 17: that he said this morning and continues to say, I
- 1:51:59Speaker 17: feel like, is about the things that didn't go so well.
- 1:52:02Speaker 17: Like he's more focused on that than he is on
- 1:52:05Speaker 17: you know that that touchdown past the Keshan Boodie.
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:52:08Speaker 17: So I thought that I do like that as well,
- 1:52:11Speaker 17: like le us do the gloating for you and you,
- 1:52:14Speaker 17: you know, let him focus on getting better.
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so London, you know, they'll be leaving for London.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: Would you say that Gerd had the demeanor of headmaster
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: today or was he more of a coach?
- 1:52:28Speaker 17: Well might go to Hogwarts, right, so you know, might
- 1:52:32Speaker 17: see that.
- 1:52:33Speaker 4: No, I I do think it.
- 1:52:36Speaker 17: Guess it's kind of good that he was here for
- 1:52:38Speaker 17: Germany last year and understands the travel and the routine
- 1:52:42Speaker 17: and the time change and all that kind of stuff,
- 1:52:44Speaker 17: because I do think that you have some young guys
- 1:52:47Speaker 17: that are in key spots, especially obviously the quarterback, and
- 1:52:51Speaker 17: that can that can be a problem, like you know
- 1:52:53Speaker 17: if he's uh, you know, thrown off by the time
- 1:52:56Speaker 17: change or his routine or whatever. So it's seems like
- 1:53:00Speaker 17: that's a big focus.
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: And uh, you said they were in pads, so we
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: got that. In terms of the media, yes, have they
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: come down from the euphoria from Sunday yet or are
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: they still the twenty? Are they still a glow?
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: But it's so.
- 1:53:18Speaker 17: I would say that the media contingent is still pretty large.
- 1:53:22Speaker 17: It was large again today for Mayo National Folk. I
- 1:53:26Speaker 17: didn't see any National Folk.
- 1:53:28Speaker 12: Uh BBC was the BBC there?
- 1:53:30Speaker 17: Yeah, no NFL networkers. Maybe tomorrow or Friday, you know,
- 1:53:33Speaker 17: when we're already in London. But I would say that
- 1:53:37Speaker 17: a lot of people are are pretty excited, okay, a
- 1:53:40Speaker 17: lot of you know, the contingent has seemed to grow
- 1:53:44Speaker 17: since they named him the starter.
- 1:53:46Speaker 12: And I wasn't sure after you saw the performance, Yes,
- 1:53:50Speaker 12: I wasn't sure.
- 1:53:51Speaker 4: I beg your pardon.
- 1:53:52Speaker 17: I wasn't sure if today I knew what he was
- 1:53:54Speaker 17: doing I wasn't sure if today was going to be
- 1:53:56Speaker 17: the same as last week. Last week's the first presser.
- 1:53:58Speaker 17: You name him the starter, But there is a good
- 1:54:01Speaker 17: amount of people of the contingent.
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: How many would you say, have their own podcast.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: That's good and do anything else?
- 1:54:12Speaker 17: All multiple they all have the podcasts.
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: And why don't any of them do it in the
- 1:54:18Speaker 3: same room. Why are they all on zoom? This is
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: I can't stand.
- 1:54:22Speaker 4: I don't know, you've done a deep time.
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: Our guy Hardy. I agree with him one hundred percent.
- 1:54:29Speaker 3: He went on a rant about TV shows. You know,
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: whether it's ESPN, Manning, the Manning Cast, they're just still
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: doing these zoom calls. I've had it with Zoom for
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: TV shows. If you're going to do a TV show,
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: let's get the production value, get him in the same room,
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: or at least make the zoom call flawless.
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: I would percent agree. I think the Manning Cast is
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: a little different. But like NFL Live, all of these
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: shows that they do on ESPN, there's no reason for
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: these guys not to be in the student right and
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: I don't really understand it. Yeah enough love enough, Like
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: the Manning Cast, I get it, like they're you know
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: they're going to do it, so they're obviously doing it
- 1:55:08Speaker 4: from their homes. Peyton and Eli doing it from their homes,
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: and if they're going to get guests every week, it's
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: kind of hard to ask, you know, can you come
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: to my house so we're all in the same place.
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: You know, like, I get it.
- 1:55:18Speaker 17: That's a little that's a little bit about like that's
- 1:55:20Speaker 17: like you're like hanging out with the Mannings and watching
- 1:55:22Speaker 17: the game.
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: You know what else has happened to that since someone
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: has become a regular guest on it, no one watches it.
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's getting boring.
- 1:55:31Speaker 17: I thought because they put Belichick on it.
- 1:55:34Speaker 12: I just wanted to get can I get Evans to
- 1:55:35Speaker 12: take real quick on the on the male thing? There
- 1:55:37Speaker 12: will be changes this week. We kind of talked about that.
- 1:55:39Speaker 12: Kind of hard to see what the changes are. Just
- 1:55:41Speaker 12: curious your thoughts on that.
- 1:55:43Speaker 17: It's a good point, and you know, obviously the thought
- 1:55:48Speaker 17: talk about I look you there's some guys that it's
- 1:55:53Speaker 17: maybe an easy cop out to say the offensive line
- 1:55:55Speaker 17: is going to change. It's going to be changed.
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: Because we know we're going to get a seventh combination.
- 1:55:58Speaker 17: So it's gonna mean it's gonna change by default. I
- 1:56:03Speaker 17: do wonder if there's a mental break coming for Jalen Polk.
- 1:56:06Speaker 17: You know, I'm not saying that he doesn't play at all,
- 1:56:09Speaker 17: but yeah, but maybe he's reduced until later in the
- 1:56:15Speaker 17: game where if it's you know, more comfortable one way
- 1:56:18Speaker 17: or the other, then maybe he plays. Then I do
- 1:56:22Speaker 17: wonder a little bit about Raykwa McMillan and just the
- 1:56:24Speaker 17: linebacker position in general, Like if ony Taki Talkie is
- 1:56:28Speaker 17: ready to play a little bit more this week, maybe
- 1:56:31Speaker 17: they give him a look there at linebacker. Maybe it's
- 1:56:34Speaker 17: even like a Joe Giles Harris from the practice squad,
- 1:56:36Speaker 17: like they have to at some point. I understand it's
- 1:56:39Speaker 17: you've got the guys that you got, but you have
- 1:56:41Speaker 17: some other options and you got to make some changes.
- 1:56:44Speaker 17: If you're giving up, you know, to sixty yard runs,
- 1:56:46Speaker 17: like you have to do something about that. So I
- 1:56:49Speaker 17: would look there as well as another spot that possibly
- 1:56:54Speaker 17: they could do that with. And just in general, like
- 1:56:58Speaker 17: the early down defense, I think could see some changes.
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: We're all on board. Well, I was just looking at
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: a guy like Jacquelin Roy, who I know nothing about.
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: He's played, he's played two games limited snaps in both games.
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: I noticed him and it's not just because he's so big,
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: So I wondered, maybe do they try to get some
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: more beef, give some help to Godchild up front, who's
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: been really critical of his teammates last couple of weeks.
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: He's been excellent, he's been really good. So maybe you're
- 1:57:28Speaker 4: taking a Quale or a Keon White and you say, listen,
- 1:57:31Speaker 4: you guys are good players, but if you're not going
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: to play disciplined, because we're talking about discipline, that's what
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: Gerardmeo keeps talking about, that's what the run game is like.
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: Maybe maybe it's something like that, But we really brought
- 1:57:43Speaker 4: up Taki Taki, Mike mentioned him, Fred mentioned, you know,
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: maybe more Mapu just strictly linebacker as a possibility. Obviously,
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: we talked about us, We talked about Yeah, Mike brought
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: up Christian Ellis as a linebacker. Possibly, we brought up
- 1:57:56Speaker 4: the whole thing with Born and Polk. Maybe that's the
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: NAT because Born, I think said two weeks ago, it's
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: gonna be a ramp up. It's gonna be a ramp
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: up ya. Maybe he's more ready now. Anyway, regardless of
- 1:58:07Speaker 4: the way Polk has played, maybe Bourne is more ready.
- 1:58:09Speaker 14: Well.
- 1:58:10Speaker 17: His snaps too with Kendrick Bourne had been first week
- 1:58:14Speaker 17: it was twenty five percent. Last week it was fifty.
- 1:58:16Speaker 17: So there's like a clear build up going on there
- 1:58:19Speaker 17: in terms of his snapcounts. But I like to Jacquelin
- 1:58:22Speaker 17: Roy shout because I think he's been really solid and
- 1:58:24Speaker 17: he can play a little bit of nose. So you
- 1:58:26Speaker 17: allowed gotcha to play a little end, you know, in
- 1:58:28Speaker 17: those base fronts too. They've done that. They've kind of
- 1:58:31Speaker 17: swapped those guys in, you know where they're at. And
- 1:58:34Speaker 17: he's been a problem for Keon White handing the dirt
- 1:58:37Speaker 17: defensive end, you know, on first down, it's just not
- 1:58:40Speaker 17: his game. Uh, he's got to play outside the tackle,
- 1:58:43Speaker 17: and you know that also has had some issues for
- 1:58:46Speaker 17: the team in general. So I look at Keon White
- 1:58:49Speaker 17: as a potential guy that we know he's a game wrecker.
- 1:58:52Speaker 17: We know he's disruptive, especially on passing downs, but early
- 1:58:56Speaker 17: down run defense has been a concern for him too.
- 1:58:58Speaker 17: It feels like all their big runs that they've loud,
- 1:59:00Speaker 17: Kean White and ray Kwa McMillan are always on the scene,
- 1:59:04Speaker 17: Like those two guys are always somewhere within the vicinity
- 1:59:07Speaker 17: of where the run hits, and so they got to
- 1:59:09Speaker 17: do something about that.
- 1:59:10Speaker 3: Chris with a T I a n right, Sin, Mike
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: looks like a Bond villain today with his black Nike
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: Nike quarter Zip. Do you expect me to talk, mister Bond?
- 1:59:20Speaker 3: Expect you to die? Like rip the flesh off Felger's
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: bones today, Polly, That's what he says.
- 1:59:26Speaker 12: That's what's fun. It must must.
- 1:59:28Speaker 17: I listening to your shows on the way home yesterday,
- 1:59:31Speaker 17: I didn't care for it.
- 1:59:32Speaker 12: No.
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: Oh, I can only imagine how that was bothering you.
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: I said, so Mike and I both we were talking.
- 1:59:38Speaker 4: I said, Mike and I are pretty similar on Drake May.
- 1:59:40Speaker 4: We both really really like Drake May. I go Evan,
- 1:59:42Speaker 4: on the other hand, is on planet Zippy when it
- 1:59:44Speaker 4: comes to Drake May like it's our admiration for May
- 1:59:48Speaker 4: does not really even come into your realms. Well, I
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: think I can only imagine how Felger was bothering you.
- 1:59:53Speaker 17: For somebody that and I'm not saying you guys don't
- 1:59:55Speaker 17: watch the games either, but for somebody that pours over
- 1:59:58Speaker 17: the tape every single Monday from these games to have
- 2:00:01Speaker 17: to watch a quarterback where I actually feel like he is,
- 2:00:04Speaker 17: you know, actually go ahead quarterback. I'm just like, this
- 2:00:08Speaker 17: is a breath of fresh air. And I'm sorry to
- 2:00:10Speaker 17: Felger and everybody else that the fans are actually excited
- 2:00:14Speaker 17: that they have a promising young player on the team.
- 2:00:17Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 2:00:17Speaker 17: Like, I know he's not perfect. I know he made mistakes,
- 2:00:20Speaker 17: but we're all excited and that's okay. We're allowed to be.
- 2:00:23Speaker 3: And we still want to win. Can you tell him?
- 2:00:27Speaker 4: Let him know that, you know, well, Mike invented the
- 2:00:29Speaker 4: idea that if you're a fan of a team, you
- 2:00:31Speaker 4: should want it to win, not lose. I just I
- 2:00:35Speaker 4: just want to make sure I credit Mike Felger with that,
- 2:00:37Speaker 4: because I'd never heard that from anybody else before. He'll
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: get mad when I say it.
- 2:00:42Speaker 12: Like that fight fight, all right.
- 2:00:45Speaker 3: That's going to be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
