- 0:15Speaker 1: She's going to be alone in a big, dark house
- 0:17Speaker 1: out in the middle of nowhere. How perfect can you get?
- 0:22Speaker 1: The second attacker responded with, I'm horny just thinking about it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: We'll scare the shit out of them and kill them
- 0:31Speaker 1: one by fucking one. Why one by one? Why can't
- 0:36Speaker 1: it be a slaughterhouse two by two and three by
- 0:40Speaker 1: three because we've got to keep it glassy. This is
- 0:44Speaker 1: the tragic story of Cassie Joe Stardt's murder.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm Nicole, I'm Ben, and this is Wicked and Grim.
- 0:54Speaker 1: A true crime podcast.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Good morning podcast.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Cemeterial listener question that much?
- 1:26Speaker 1: How's it going?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Welcome back to twenty twenty.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Three, Welcome back, Welcome back, Well.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Welcome, welcome back to the podcast.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And it's now twenty and it's now twenty.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Twenty three, New year. I don't have a little like
- 1:42Speaker 2: kazoot Oh.
- 1:43Speaker 1: That would have been super fun. We should have been prepared.
- 1:45Speaker 2: We should have just imagine there's one. Imagine there's one.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Was that accurate that? I don't know? How good was that?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Was it good visual.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Four to ten? I mean, I'll take it. I'll take it.
- 1:59Speaker 1: How everyone's New Year? I hope it was super fun.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Ours was pretty chill. We actually steered clear of social
- 2:05Speaker 2: media quite a bit for the last few days. Yeah, relaxed,
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah it was. It was nice.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, chilled, watch movies, snow shoot.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It was a good time.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Trying to enjoy this thing called winter a little bit
- 2:18Speaker 1: more so. I've been snowshoeing a lot.
- 2:20Speaker 2: We've had a pretty decent December, at least a last
- 2:23Speaker 2: couple of weeks.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Well when was that cold snap? Was it not in December?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Beginning of December? I think the last couple of weeks
- 2:29Speaker 2: was good.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, like, yeah, it looks pretty outside because we kind
- 2:33Speaker 1: of get a little bit of fresh snow, like small
- 2:36Speaker 1: dump like not a dump, but small sprinkles.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I mean we probably had like, I don't know, maybe
- 2:41Speaker 2: a foot and a half of snow right now in total.
- 2:44Speaker 2: So January is usually are heavy snow.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Month, but it was it just snowing like a little
- 2:48Speaker 1: bit of time. So it makes everything look kind of pretty.
- 2:50Speaker 2: It looks fucking gorgeous, is what you're trying to say.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And it's warm out pretty warm relatively speaking. I know
- 2:57Speaker 1: some people were like, that's not one, like.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Minus eight celsius.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So I go outside in that and I'm like, oh,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I don't need a cope.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah. I was out there and a teacher today, so
- 3:06Speaker 2: it was good. Hopefully you guys had a good New
- 3:08Speaker 2: Year too. I don't know if anyone has any like
- 3:10Speaker 2: New Year's resolutions or what. Our resolution is just to
- 3:15Speaker 2: keep doing ourselves, maybe get a little healthier and of
- 3:18Speaker 2: course rocking the podcast absolutely.
- 3:21Speaker 1: But we're firm believers that you can set goals at
- 3:23Speaker 1: any time, one hundred percent.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Set those goals, do those things, make those accomplishments. We
- 3:29Speaker 2: believe in you.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You got this.
- 3:32Speaker 2: This PSA brought to you by Wicked and Grim no kidding.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Also brought to you by a Wakening Graham is our Patreon.
- 3:39Speaker 2: We had a couple of people signed up on Patreon
- 3:41Speaker 2: this week. Again, as always, got more people to thank.
- 3:44Speaker 2: So we have Lindsey Ray and Rebecca Ryan who both
- 3:48Speaker 2: signed up this week over on Patreon, Thank you so much,
- 3:51Speaker 2: and they are treating themselves to all behind the scenes
- 3:54Speaker 2: content back there, including if you sign up for the
- 3:56Speaker 2: all access Patron tier. Guess what we.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Just put out a episode on December thirty first, a.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Whole nother episode. You can go check out and there's
- 4:06Speaker 2: a there's a library building on Patreon. Now there's probably
- 4:09Speaker 2: I don't know how many, there's probably like fifteen, probably
- 4:12Speaker 2: probably more. It's probably close to twenty.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Episodes to count them up.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so if you want to sign up for Patreon,
- 4:18Speaker 2: we appreciate that. If you want to just listen, we
- 4:20Speaker 2: appreciate that too, because, yeah, awesome.
- 4:23Speaker 1: What was the case you just put out? Do you remember?
- 4:25Speaker 2: I am only going to give a little tidbit of
- 4:29Speaker 2: information on it, so maybe tease it.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It was a probably because you can't remember.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I can remember. It was a Florida man who woke
- 4:38Speaker 2: up with a headache and was rushed to the hospital
- 4:42Speaker 2: and there was a severe discovery that was found.
- 4:49Speaker 1: It was quite severe. I'll give you that.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I'll tell you guys what it was because it's not
- 4:54Speaker 2: too much of a shocker and it's pretty.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Don't tell no that gives it too much away.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Okay, okay, I say, I won't say a word. But
- 5:01Speaker 2: buddy woke up with a very bad headache, went to
- 5:04Speaker 2: the hospital and there was a wild discovery about a condition.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah it was, and then really well and a lot
- 5:10Speaker 1: of other wild stuff after that.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, the rabbit hole that ensued. So that's what we
- 5:14Speaker 2: released on Patreon this week or not this ball the
- 5:17Speaker 2: last day of the month, which is our release.
- 5:19Speaker 1: We released that last year.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Dude, Wow, did you really just pull that on me? Holy?
- 5:26Speaker 2: All right, I'm done with you. Just get on with
- 5:28Speaker 2: the episode.
- 5:29Speaker 1: That was bad, that was good that I approve of
- 5:32Speaker 1: that message you approve of course. Okay, So I'm jumping
- 5:36Speaker 1: back to that little lah transcript I read at the
- 5:40Speaker 1: beginning there gotcha, gotcha of basically two complete dumb asses.
- 5:45Speaker 1: If you didn't gather that douche canoes discussing how they
- 5:50Speaker 1: found their victim. And I don't know if you're anything
- 5:53Speaker 1: like me, it pretty much like made me sick, like
- 5:56Speaker 1: a feeling of just like nausea. So their way, it
- 6:01Speaker 1: didn't make you feel warm and fuzzy.
- 6:02Speaker 2: No.
- 6:03Speaker 1: And the brutal truth is that was a real transcript,
- 6:07Speaker 1: a real conversation between friends who were sixteen years old.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I was about to say it sounds like some idiotic adolescents,
- 6:16Speaker 2: children who just don't quite grasp what they're even talking about.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You know what, I mean, yeah, so that's grade eleven
- 6:24Speaker 1: and they were psyching themselves up to kill their first victim. Jesus,
- 6:29Speaker 1: Like that's almost enough, Like should we even carry on?
- 6:34Speaker 2: I want to slap these children basically, oh, snack some
- 6:37Speaker 2: sense into them. Yeah, not that I promote child abuse,
- 6:40Speaker 2: don't get me wrong there, but smack on the head, like,
- 6:42Speaker 2: don't kill people. I'm pretty sure that might be.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they need some sort of lesson here.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So in September of two thousand and six, Cassie Joe Startart,
- 6:51Speaker 1: a classmate of the two I already mentioned, was a
- 6:54Speaker 1: sixteen year old girl living in Bannett County, Idaho. Though
- 6:58Speaker 1: her parents were still in the picture, Cassie was living
- 7:01Speaker 1: with her grandparents. She was a sweet girl who had
- 7:05Speaker 1: loads of friends. She took school very seriously and had
- 7:09Speaker 1: amazing grades to show of it. Like I'm pretty sure
- 7:12Speaker 1: she was straight A student, which is amazing, because that's
- 7:16Speaker 1: not easy.
- 7:16Speaker 2: No, I've tried, and I was not successful at that.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I know I was not either.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I was mid tier. I was like C minuses and
- 7:24Speaker 2: then in gym I got like an A in that
- 7:26Speaker 2: because I was athletic. But that's it. Not athletic.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Now, usually I was like a's or b's. But then
- 7:33Speaker 1: I would get math. Usually I was like a sea
- 7:37Speaker 1: of sorts. Math is hard. So she also stayed out
- 7:41Speaker 1: of trouble. She was a responsible girl and described as
- 7:44Speaker 1: being destined for greatness, like I was at sixteen year old,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I was described as that.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I don't think anyone has ever described me as that, honestly,
- 7:55Speaker 2: not even sixteen to thirty four. Where I'm at now, Okay.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, someone needs to describe been being destined for greatness.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So she was in the process of saving up to
- 8:06Speaker 1: buy herself a car. I literally remember that age like
- 8:09Speaker 1: that's I don't know. I can remember that feeling of like,
- 8:11Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I'm.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Going to a good a car.
- 8:13Speaker 1: She usually made money by babysitting for her aunt and uncle,
- 8:17Speaker 1: but her aunt and uncle had an upcoming trip that
- 8:20Speaker 1: would take them out of town for a few days,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and they asked Cassie if she would house it for
- 8:24Speaker 1: them while they were away. This was an opportunity she
- 8:28Speaker 1: couldn't pass up. It wasn't going to be a long trip,
- 8:31Speaker 1: and there wasn't a lot of work involved. She basically
- 8:34Speaker 1: had to, you know, water the plants, feed the pets,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and then she could pretty much do whatever she wanted
- 8:40Speaker 1: for the rest of the time that she was there, gotcha,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Regardless of the man of work involved, it was a
- 8:46Speaker 1: lot of responsibility for a sixteen year old, and some
- 8:50Speaker 1: sixteen year olds given this kind of opportunity may abuse
- 8:54Speaker 1: it and say.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Let's have a party, throw a party.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, he wasn't like that. She actually just
- 9:02Speaker 1: planned to have a movie night by herself. So she's
- 9:05Speaker 1: my kind of girl.
- 9:06Speaker 2: She's altay more grown up than I am.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But the house was big and a little bit out
- 9:11Speaker 1: of town with few neighbors close by, and Cassie got
- 9:14Speaker 1: a bit spooped. She figured she could have her boyfriend
- 9:17Speaker 1: over to watch movies with her, and just to show
- 9:20Speaker 1: exactly how responsible she was. Instead of just inviting him over,
- 9:25Speaker 1: she actually went about asking her aunt for permission. That's good,
- 9:29Speaker 1: like super respectful.
- 9:30Speaker 2: That is I mean, honestly, that's what she should do.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Absolutely the fact she did perfect.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Yeah, like she's I think that she's just an amazing
- 9:37Speaker 1: sixteen year old. Her aunt said that that would be fine,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and Cassie's boyfriend, Matt Beckham, made his way over. When
- 9:45Speaker 1: he arrived, he maybe didn't exactly get what Cassie had
- 9:48Speaker 1: been naming for because he brought two of his friends
- 9:52Speaker 1: with him. Oh really, So I'm not certain if like
- 9:54Speaker 1: he arrived with them or they came later or what.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But two friends, Ryan Draper and Tory Adamchick. So Cassie
- 10:03Speaker 1: also knew these boys, right, being that they were all
- 10:06Speaker 1: in the same grade and the same.
- 10:08Speaker 2: School friends circle. Probably even I mean, they're dating, so
- 10:12Speaker 2: she's probably hanging out with his friends and vice versa
- 10:14Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I don't think like it was. They were
- 10:17Speaker 1: more Matt's friends, and there is rumors that one or
- 10:21Speaker 1: both of them had like a crush on Cassie, gotcha.
- 10:25Speaker 1: So I don't know if she felt like super comfortable
- 10:27Speaker 1: with them. Maybe she didn't know.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I don't know even still though, I just do want
- 10:30Speaker 2: to like point this out. If your girlfriend at the
- 10:34Speaker 2: age of sixteen is house sitting for someone, she's home alone,
- 10:38Speaker 2: and she's like, hey, you want to come over. You
- 10:40Speaker 2: don't bring your fucking friends? What the hell is wrong
- 10:43Speaker 2: with him?
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah? That really have a weird move. Hey, unless they
- 10:49Speaker 1: they somehow just weaseled their way in, which wouldn't totally
- 10:54Speaker 1: surprise me with what's going to happen and with the
- 10:57Speaker 1: face and stuff.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I mean, his friends are just like, they're definitely not
- 11:01Speaker 2: very good wing men.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Then yeah, they should have just been let him be.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But they had expectations that Cassie was throwing a party.
- 11:09Speaker 1: So I don't know if Matt necessarily did, but the
- 11:11Speaker 1: two friends did.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Huh. Interesting.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Cassie was a bit upset about this, rightfully, so yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 1: she only invited Matt over and hadn't been expecting Brian
- 11:21Speaker 1: and Tory to show up with him, and was definitely
- 11:25Speaker 1: not throwing a party. But she was holding her ground
- 11:28Speaker 1: and sticking to her plan and went about putting on
- 11:31Speaker 1: a movie for them all to enjoy them on put
- 11:34Speaker 1: a foot down. Eventually, Brian and Tory realized that Cassie
- 11:38Speaker 1: was serious about this and there would be no party,
- 11:41Speaker 1: so they decided to leave head back into town and
- 11:45Speaker 1: catch a movie at the local theater instead. Okay, good, Yeah, Like,
- 11:49Speaker 1: apparently the movie she was playing wasn't good enough for them.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It was probably like The Notebook or something.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I can't I feel like one report I actually read.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think it was a scary movie. Oh but I
- 12:01Speaker 1: can't remember. I'm pretty sure it was though.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You had me at scary movie.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So Cassie and Matt didn't think much about this. They
- 12:09Speaker 1: said their goodbyes, and then the two of them continued
- 12:12Speaker 1: back to the couch to watch their movie. But not
- 12:15Speaker 1: too long later, the power would go out, which I
- 12:18Speaker 1: don't think is completely abnormal, especially when you're living out
- 12:21Speaker 1: of town, right.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's how every horror movie starts. Yeah, you're
- 12:25Speaker 2: in a house on the outskirts of town. There's not
- 12:27Speaker 2: really many neighbors around your house, sitting it's not even
- 12:31Speaker 2: your home. Your boyfriend's there with you on the couch.
- 12:35Speaker 2: The lights are low, the evening is getting dim. The
- 12:38Speaker 2: power goes out. Yeah, you don't know your way around.
- 12:41Speaker 2: What happens next?
- 12:42Speaker 1: You're in an unfamiliar home. Yeah, you pretty much just
- 12:44Speaker 1: nailed it there.
- 12:45Speaker 2: That's a horror movie right there, and I.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Feel like, look up my next line. But of course,
- 12:50Speaker 1: not being home and in a relatively large house on
- 12:53Speaker 1: your own, that would be a scary situation. Cassie of
- 12:57Speaker 1: course got scared and kept turning to me asking him
- 13:00Speaker 1: what they should do. But with Matt only being sixteen
- 13:04Speaker 1: himself and even in an even more unfamiliar home, didn't
- 13:08Speaker 1: really know what to do either, so he just did
- 13:11Speaker 1: his best and tried to calm Cassie down. He told
- 13:15Speaker 1: her that it was just a power outage and everything
- 13:17Speaker 1: would be fine. They just had to kind of wait
- 13:19Speaker 1: it out until the power came back on and not
- 13:22Speaker 1: to worry about it.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And he ended up being right because at some point
- 13:26Speaker 1: some of the power, not all of the power, but
- 13:29Speaker 1: some of the power did come back on, and this
- 13:32Speaker 1: let Cassie kind of calm down for a little bit.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Some of the power came back.
- 13:36Speaker 1: On, apparently not all of it.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Okay, if some of the power came back on, but
- 13:39Speaker 2: not all, and that's a problem at your house.
- 13:41Speaker 1: That's a problem.
- 13:42Speaker 2: That's a problem at the house. That's not a problem
- 13:44Speaker 2: with a power source.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, yep. But something else that was making them
- 13:50Speaker 1: a little uneasy was what was going on with one
- 13:53Speaker 1: of the dogs. So the dog kept going up to
- 13:58Speaker 1: the door of the basement and sometimes it would just
- 14:02Speaker 1: stare at the door, almost like it was listening to
- 14:04Speaker 1: something on the other side, and at other times it
- 14:07Speaker 1: would bark or make a noise. Both Cassie and Matt
- 14:11Speaker 1: thought this was really strange, but they also thought that
- 14:14Speaker 1: they were just maybe being a bit paranoid because of
- 14:16Speaker 1: the recent power outage and then being an unfamiliar home,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and Matt had just put them on edge.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Well, I know the exact direction this is fucking going,
- 14:24Speaker 2: but Jesus.
- 14:26Speaker 1: By this point, it was getting a bit late and
- 14:29Speaker 1: Matt would have to be heading home soon, but the
- 14:31Speaker 1: thought of Lee being Cassie alone had him call his
- 14:34Speaker 1: mom to see if he could spend the night with her.
- 14:37Speaker 1: His mom unfortunately said no, but not really any judgment there,
- 14:42Speaker 1: Like they were only sixteen, right.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I can totally understand that.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I think she was just being a good mom and
- 14:47Speaker 1: wasn't about to let two teenagers spend the night together unsupervised,
- 14:51Speaker 1: so she went to go and pick up her son.
- 14:54Speaker 1: When she arrived, Cassie was still pretty freaked out, and
- 14:57Speaker 1: Matt once again tried to convince his mom to let
- 15:00Speaker 1: him stay the night, but she again said no. She did, however,
- 15:04Speaker 1: seem to realize that this wasn't just two teenagers trying
- 15:07Speaker 1: to get away with something and that Cassie was like
- 15:10Speaker 1: genuinely scared, so she kindly offered for Cassie to come
- 15:14Speaker 1: stay the night at their house and they'd give her
- 15:16Speaker 1: a ride back in the morning.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Awesome, That's what I was hoping was going to happen,
- 15:20Speaker 2: that she would offer that, because like, you can't just
- 15:22Speaker 2: like let this fucking teene be scared in this unfamiliar
- 15:25Speaker 2: house alone like that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah. So her offering that, like, she seems like a
- 15:29Speaker 1: good person, right.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but I have a feeling the offer was declined.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Yes, okay, so yeah, So basically the mom was making
- 15:40Speaker 1: sure that she wasn't gonna be left alone, but that
- 15:42Speaker 1: they would still be in a supervis situation. So this
- 15:45Speaker 1: was a good compromise. But Cassie did turn the offer down.
- 15:50Speaker 1: She said that her aunt and uncle were paying her
- 15:52Speaker 1: to watch the house and take care of the animals,
- 15:55Speaker 1: so that was what she had to do, and if
- 15:57Speaker 1: she had to stay in a house that was scaring
- 15:59Speaker 1: her to do that, that was what she was going
- 16:02Speaker 1: to do.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I get it. But also, safety's kind of priority, right,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I know. But you also don't ever think that, oh,
- 16:11Speaker 2: I'm just gonna stay in this house and get murdered tonight.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Yeah you don't.
- 16:15Speaker 4: You don't.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I don't think her head would have gone that way. No,
- 16:19Speaker 1: So Matt and his mother said goodbye, to Cassie. Matt
- 16:23Speaker 1: ended up calling Brian and Tory to see what they
- 16:25Speaker 1: ended up getting up to, but couldn't make out what
- 16:28Speaker 1: Tory was saying as he was whispering on the other
- 16:31Speaker 1: end of the phone. He just assumed they really had
- 16:34Speaker 1: gone to the movies, and Tory was trying not to
- 16:37Speaker 1: get caught on the phone like in the movie theater, right, yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 1: So he hung up and let the night be. Cassie
- 16:43Speaker 1: in the meantime, was sticking to her plan. She went
- 16:46Speaker 1: back to the coach, put another movie on him, probably
- 16:50Speaker 1: trying not to think too hard about everything that had
- 16:52Speaker 1: happened so far that evening.
- 16:54Speaker 2: God, this is killing me.
- 16:55Speaker 1: But once again the power went out.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Fucking course it did. Those jackasses are in the fucking basement.
- 17:03Speaker 1: So honestly, even at my age and her situation, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: would be fucking scared.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I would be shitting myself. Yeah, guaranteed.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I mean this time she didn't have Matt there to
- 17:15Speaker 1: calm her down. But being that Cassie didn't really know
- 17:18Speaker 1: what to do or even what she should do when
- 17:21Speaker 1: something like this happened, she stayed put on the coach
- 17:24Speaker 1: and again intended to just wait it out it came
- 17:29Speaker 1: on before, so why wouldn't come back on again? Right? Yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 1: But I find that part interesting because I feel like
- 17:36Speaker 1: if no matter how scared I was, I think I
- 17:40Speaker 1: would still go check it out. Because the other thing
- 17:43Speaker 1: that I haven't said yet is there was noises too
- 17:47Speaker 1: coming from the basement.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Oh there was, you would go check that shit out.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I would either go check it out or I would leave, Like,
- 17:55Speaker 1: I don't think I would just like hunker down on
- 17:57Speaker 1: the couch and stay there like I would do one
- 17:59Speaker 1: or the other. I don't think I could just like
- 18:02Speaker 1: I would be I would have to do something like
- 18:04Speaker 1: I couldn't just stay there, like I'd be freaking out.
- 18:07Speaker 2: See, I would be like trying to get a hold
- 18:09Speaker 2: of neighbors, contacting neighbors, asking them about.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Their power, but she might not have had their numbers.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Go for a walk.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I think I would probably take myself out of the house.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I would be.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Or I would call like my parents or something and
- 18:22Speaker 1: be like I need someone here with me.
- 18:25Speaker 2: One way or another. I would be finding out about
- 18:27Speaker 2: the power in the surrounding.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Neighborhood, especially with how the dog was acting, because that that,
- 18:32Speaker 1: to me, would scare the shit out of mere percent.
- 18:35Speaker 2: You gotta trust the fucking dogs. Maybe always, always trust
- 18:39Speaker 2: the dogs.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe she hadn't had experience like with dogs.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Maybe she didn't really know how to read their behavior.
- 18:47Speaker 1: That's kind of what I was thinking.
- 18:48Speaker 2: That's true. I don't know. I think priority you need
- 18:52Speaker 2: to figure out if the power situation right yea. The
- 18:54Speaker 2: best way is to check the neighborhood that you're in
- 18:56Speaker 2: because if your powers out, their power should be out.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So if you if their power's not out, you can
- 19:01Speaker 2: identify that it's problem at the home.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Yeah. Because I'm just gonna say this little tidbit there
- 19:08Speaker 1: later on in the crime scene because I don't have
- 19:10Speaker 1: it in here, but there was broken ass trays found downstairs.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So those were some of the sounds that were being made, gotcha.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So I think when I heard something like that, I'd
- 19:19Speaker 1: be the fuck out of there, like they're like they're
- 19:21Speaker 1: just gone. I would probably go to sleep under a
- 19:24Speaker 1: tree at that point outside peace out. So it's too
- 19:28Speaker 1: bad Cassie didn't leave the situation because she had no
- 19:31Speaker 1: idea how much danger she actually was in. God, when
- 19:37Speaker 1: cassis aunt and uncle came back home, a couple days later,
- 19:41Speaker 1: so they left on the Friday. They came back on
- 19:44Speaker 1: the Sunday. Their thirteen year old daughter headed into the
- 19:47Speaker 1: house first. She was probably excited to be greeted by
- 19:50Speaker 1: Cassie or their pets, but instead she was greeted by
- 19:54Speaker 1: something so horrific and unexpected. She found her cousin lying
- 19:59Speaker 1: in a pool of her own blood on the living
- 20:01Speaker 1: room floor. Her scream caused her parents to rush into
- 20:05Speaker 1: the house to see what was wrong, and again they
- 20:08Speaker 1: were stopped in their tracks, their sweet cousin and niece
- 20:12Speaker 1: the target of some sort of attack that didn't make
- 20:15Speaker 1: any sense at all. They managed to keep it together
- 20:18Speaker 1: long enough to call the police, and when the investigators arrived,
- 20:22Speaker 1: it was obvious that Cassie did not die of natural
- 20:25Speaker 1: causes and was left in the state for a couple
- 20:28Speaker 1: of days.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Jeez, these pieces of shit. I guarantee you it's those
- 20:33Speaker 2: fucking two that went to the movies. Guarantee, there's no
- 20:36Speaker 2: question about it.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Really, and not Matt.
- 20:40Speaker 2: And not Matt Garon fucking Really Yes, Okay, Matt's mom
- 20:45Speaker 2: came picked him up. He was at home. He has
- 20:47Speaker 2: an alibi. His mummy was there.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Oh my god, So Cassie she'd been stabbed thirty times Jesus,
- 20:57Speaker 1: with twelve of those wounds being potentially fake. Whoa, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 1: that is.
- 21:03Speaker 2: A significantly high number for fatal stab Wow.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Cassie had stood no chance of getting out of her
- 21:10Speaker 1: situation alive unless she had decided to leave the house.
- 21:15Speaker 1: No one could figure out why someone would want to
- 21:17Speaker 1: do something this horrible to someone as nice as Cassie,
- 21:20Speaker 1: but the investigators were determined to find out. The home
- 21:24Speaker 1: showed no sign of fourth century, there was nothing valuable
- 21:28Speaker 1: missing from the property, and the knives Cassie had been
- 21:31Speaker 1: stabbed with did not appear to be from the house itself.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Oh no, really, this suggested to the investigations, Yeah, that
- 21:39Speaker 1: she'd been killed by someone who'd been planning to kill her,
- 21:42Speaker 1: and they more than likely knew who Cassie was before
- 21:45Speaker 1: they targeted her. This sent the investigators back to the
- 21:49Speaker 1: person who last saw Cassie alive, and that was, of course,
- 21:53Speaker 1: her boyfriend Matt. It's always like this significant other first, right,
- 21:57Speaker 1: it always.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Well, I mean they are usually suspecting one right out
- 22:00Speaker 2: of the gate.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Only because I think they're the posts to the situation.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Really, yeah, and rightfully so I mean, of course they're
- 22:08Speaker 2: gonna be asked. They should know, even if they don't
- 22:10Speaker 2: or aren't involved, they should know something.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Yeah, So they brought him in for questioning and broke
- 22:17Speaker 1: the news to him that his girlfriend had been murdered,
- 22:19Speaker 1: and Matt apparently just went blank. He didn't seem to
- 22:23Speaker 1: react at all, and he didn't show any emotion. He
- 22:25Speaker 1: just shut down. And this kind of made the investigators
- 22:28Speaker 1: want to put more pressure on him shock, but I
- 22:31Speaker 1: think it was kind of more of a shock thing,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and probably in his mind he's like, oh my gosh,
- 22:36Speaker 1: like if I just had forced Cassie to come to
- 22:39Speaker 1: my house, right, Yeah. So they were looking for a confession,
- 22:43Speaker 1: but what they got was a description of that evening
- 22:45Speaker 1: right up until the point where Matt's mom came and
- 22:48Speaker 1: picked him up, and that was that. Matt didn't say
- 22:51Speaker 1: anything else, only really that he'd been hanging with Brian
- 22:54Speaker 1: and Tory for the rest of the weekend, and then
- 22:56Speaker 1: he tried to reach Cassie many times or their weekend,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but she hadn't answered any of his phone calls. The
- 23:03Speaker 1: investigators didn't really believe him, but he gave them two
- 23:07Speaker 1: more leads to chase up, so they brought in Brian
- 23:10Speaker 1: and Tory. Brian and Tory told almost the exact same story,
- 23:15Speaker 1: except there's ended with them leaving early and going to
- 23:17Speaker 1: the movies, and they even had the tickets to prove
- 23:20Speaker 1: that they'd gone and watch a film.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you can buy a ticket, then fucking leave.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Yeah, they said they'd gone to the movie holes. Do
- 23:29Speaker 1: you know what it's like a Disney movie? Oh, I
- 23:32Speaker 1: feel like I've seen it a long time ago. I
- 23:34Speaker 1: think it's older.
- 23:35Speaker 2: It sounds like an it would.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Be older if it was yeah, in the theaters at
- 23:38Speaker 1: this time.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it sounds like an adult film. Oh wow, it does.
- 23:44Speaker 2: It really does.
- 23:45Speaker 1: And the tickets through the investigators for a moment, but
- 23:50Speaker 1: then they asked Brian to tell them a bit more
- 23:52Speaker 1: about the movie, and he simply couldn't. He said he
- 23:56Speaker 1: first said that it was a scary movie, but it
- 23:59Speaker 1: was really bad and boring, so he couldn't remember anything
- 24:01Speaker 1: about it. This didn't sit right with the investigators, but
- 24:05Speaker 1: they had three suspects on their hands, and Matt was
- 24:08Speaker 1: the only one really to them at the time that
- 24:10Speaker 1: was acting strangely, so they let Brian and Tory go
- 24:15Speaker 1: and brought Matt back in for a polygraph test, thinking
- 24:19Speaker 1: that that would catch him in a lie and they
- 24:21Speaker 1: could use it to get him to confess that he
- 24:23Speaker 1: murdered his girlfriend. Yeah, but Matt might do it. Much
- 24:28Speaker 1: to their amazement, he passed that test with flying.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Color, totally surprised.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Here, my god, you're just like you have it all.
- 24:38Speaker 1: You just know exactly what happened.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Eh.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Yeah, basically, Oh my goodness, what I needed a sip
- 24:45Speaker 1: of tea there. Okay, So they moved back to Brian
- 24:48Speaker 1: and Tory, and by this point Brian changed his tune
- 24:53Speaker 1: and he had a bit more to say.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Oh did he now?
- 24:56Speaker 1: He confessed? Oh, he confessed not to killing Cat, but
- 25:01Speaker 1: to wanting to play a prank on her and Matt.
- 25:03Speaker 1: He said that he and Tory had brought some knives,
- 25:06Speaker 1: some black clothes, and mask masks based on the movie
- 25:10Speaker 1: Scream with them scream, Yes, that kind of fast. I
- 25:15Speaker 1: haven't watched any of those.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I don't know they've never seen any of a Scream movie.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I should probably not mid on your what I know,
- 25:22Speaker 1: Let's watch them? Are they all good or some like
- 25:25Speaker 1: of them? Shitty? I looked them up. There's a lot
- 25:26Speaker 1: of them there is.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I mean a lot of them are. There's some that
- 25:30Speaker 2: are better than others. Let's put it that way.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Okay, So they just brought the shit, he said, to
- 25:36Speaker 1: just scare them. To scare the pair, the plan was
- 25:39Speaker 1: to unlock the back door while they were still in
- 25:41Speaker 1: the house, pretend to leave and go to the movies,
- 25:45Speaker 1: dress up in their costumes, grab the knives, and then
- 25:48Speaker 1: sneak back into the house to pull a prank on them.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Then Brian and Torrey found out that the fuse box
- 25:55Speaker 1: was in the basement, so they were the ones that
- 25:57Speaker 1: had turned the power out that night, trying to scare
- 26:02Speaker 1: Cassie and Matt. But it was only after they heard
- 26:05Speaker 1: Matt leave that they decided to take it up a notch.
- 26:09Speaker 1: They killed the lights again, and then they snuck upstairs
- 26:13Speaker 1: and slammed a closet door, thinking that this would make
- 26:17Speaker 1: Cassie come and investigate around the house, right, but she
- 26:20Speaker 1: stayed put like that's fucking terrifying. I have no idea
- 26:26Speaker 1: how she did not run out of the house screaming, oh.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, if a power goes out in the door slams
- 26:31Speaker 2: No kidding. Now, that's if he's telling the truth in
- 26:34Speaker 2: this situation.
- 26:35Speaker 1: That's if and I mean they're the only they're the
- 26:37Speaker 1: only ones that are gonna know.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 1: So then Brian went one step further or sorry, then
- 26:44Speaker 1: Tory went one step further and began stabbing Cassie. Brian
- 26:49Speaker 1: said he never meant to harm Cassie and had only
- 26:52Speaker 1: thought that all of this was just a prank, but
- 26:54Speaker 1: that all change when Tory started attacking and actually killed Cassie.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Jesus, that escalated fucking quickly.
- 27:01Speaker 1: He said all of this had been an accident, an accident,
- 27:06Speaker 1: which is that's fucked Hoell the fuck is that an accident?
- 27:09Speaker 1: Stabbing someone thirty times is an accident? No shit, twelve
- 27:14Speaker 1: of them being fatal.
- 27:16Speaker 2: And then even if Devil's advocate here, even if everything
- 27:21Speaker 2: he says is true, he was just playing a prank
- 27:24Speaker 2: and it was the other individual, Tory, that went too
- 27:27Speaker 2: far with it. Yeah, okay, say that's the situation. Now
- 27:31Speaker 2: what you don't do anything? Yeah, you leave her there
- 27:35Speaker 2: because he don't report him.
- 27:36Speaker 1: He was also hanging out with the boyfriend the whole weekend. Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: who was trying to contact Cassie.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so what kind of fucking individual are you? Then
- 27:46Speaker 2: you just let this happen.
- 27:47Speaker 1: And something I'd even read is apparently like because they
- 27:49Speaker 1: don't think Matt like had a car, or he didn't
- 27:51Speaker 1: drive or something he had asked them to like drive
- 27:54Speaker 1: him to check on Cassie. Yeah, they wouldn't. Well, of
- 27:58Speaker 1: course it was so like it's it makes me like
- 28:00Speaker 1: literally sick of my stomach.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I don't believe his story whatsoever. But even if I
- 28:04Speaker 2: were to believe it, he's still a piece of shit.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Oh, these guys, they're just like idiots. Yeah, like literally
- 28:11Speaker 1: they should be in the freakin Dictionary under the definition.
- 28:15Speaker 2: It's just a picture of them.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Like it's disgusting.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Actually, I'm honestly really curious on where we get this
- 28:21Speaker 2: transcript from their conversation from. So I'm looking forward to
- 28:24Speaker 2: you telling us about that.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Okay. So then he offered to the investigators to take
- 28:29Speaker 1: them where they'd stash the murder weapon to prove that
- 28:31Speaker 1: he was telling the truth. He did lead them to
- 28:34Speaker 1: where they buried their stash of masks and knives, and
- 28:37Speaker 1: even the clothes they had been wearing that night, but
- 28:40Speaker 1: he also led them straight to something that blew the
- 28:43Speaker 1: case wide open. The investigators found a tape buried with
- 28:48Speaker 1: the rest of the teenager's equipment, and when they played it,
- 28:52Speaker 1: they realized that the story Brian had just told them
- 28:54Speaker 1: had all been a lot Wait.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Wait wait wait wait, This wasn't like a conversation they
- 28:59Speaker 2: pulled from like cell phone records from a fucking tower
- 29:02Speaker 2: or something. They literally just recorded themselves.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Yeah, because they were I can't remember which one one
- 29:07Speaker 1: of them was into like filmmaking, and so they have
- 29:10Speaker 1: oodles of like their filming. And I think that the
- 29:14Speaker 1: boys had tried to light the shit on fire, but
- 29:19Speaker 1: like they must have did the world's shittiest job because
- 29:23Speaker 1: they were still able to like get the shit off
- 29:26Speaker 1: the tape.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Wow.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So the two of them had filmed themselves Okay, Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: had filmed themselves in the days leading up to the
- 29:38Speaker 1: attack talking about their plans to murder Cassie. They even
- 29:42Speaker 1: filmed themselves when they'd snuck out of class and went
- 29:44Speaker 1: to write a list of all the people they planned
- 29:46Speaker 1: on killing afterwards, including Matt, who'd been one of their
- 29:50Speaker 1: closest friends. Brian compared them to be murders like Ted Bundy,
- 29:56Speaker 1: the Hillside Strangler, Zodiac Killer, but Torri said those killers
- 30:01Speaker 1: were amateurs compared to what they were going to be
- 30:04Speaker 1: and compared themselves to Ed Gain.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, okay, there's a whole lot to unpack in
- 30:13Speaker 2: that there.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Oh and we're going to be getting into more here,
- 30:16Speaker 1: like like you're going to really see these people's treat
- 30:19Speaker 1: true colors. It's disturbing.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I do just want to point out though, on the
- 30:23Speaker 2: one fact, on popularizing individuals like Ted Bundy, for example,
- 30:29Speaker 2: you have people who actually idolize these individuals and it's sickening,
- 30:33Speaker 2: absolutely like they.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Think that they're pretty much a celebrity.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Yeah, which points to the Japanese guy, the Isaiah Sagawa,
- 30:42Speaker 2: Japanese celebrity murdered cannibal. Dude.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it's.
- 30:46Speaker 2: It's no different people idolizing people who literally kill. It's gross.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And you know, I wasn't gonna throw this in here.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Am I going to be able to find this now?
- 30:56Speaker 1: But I should say it. Brian, I think it was Brian.
- 31:01Speaker 1: He was actually enthralled with one of the high school
- 31:04Speaker 1: shootings that had happened Columbine. Yeah wow, and he literally
- 31:09Speaker 1: like admired those two wowers and apparently shit, he was
- 31:13Speaker 1: plotting a similar attack to for his own school.
- 31:16Speaker 2: What a piece of fucking shit.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Like these people, they're disgusting, Like it almost makes me
- 31:23Speaker 1: like my blood feels like it's like boiling right now
- 31:25Speaker 1: because it's that they're that bad, they're that brutal, and
- 31:28Speaker 1: at sixteen years old. It's the fact that you can
- 31:32Speaker 1: be that evil at that age blows my mind.
- 31:36Speaker 2: It is holy shit.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Okay, we have a little bit more to get through here.
- 31:41Speaker 1: You're going to be able to do it before we do.
- 31:43Speaker 2: I just want to say one more thing. I'm going
- 31:45Speaker 2: to get off the topic of how much a piece
- 31:47Speaker 2: of shit these two are.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I don't think you'll ever get off, No, I'm.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Not, but I'm going to try and talk about another
- 31:52Speaker 2: little aspect here. They're saying that those guys were amateurs
- 31:56Speaker 2: compared to what they're going to do. Right, yet they
- 31:58Speaker 2: recorded their entire your conversations. Yeah, are you what? Do
- 32:04Speaker 2: they not know what evidence is?
- 32:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 32:07Speaker 2: Like, are you fucking joking me?
- 32:09Speaker 1: Like, I don't know. They have these high hopes of
- 32:11Speaker 1: what they would be, but they're just too they're stupid
- 32:14Speaker 1: as fuck.
- 32:15Speaker 2: There's there's a lot of cases we cover where I
- 32:17Speaker 2: try and play devil's advocate and I try and get
- 32:19Speaker 2: in their mind what they're thinking about, and I'm like, okay,
- 32:22Speaker 2: like imagine this and put yourself in these shoes. I
- 32:25Speaker 2: can see how something like that could unfold. Not that
- 32:28Speaker 2: it's right, but it could happen, right.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Especially if you're kind of like you're with some you
- 32:33Speaker 1: find someone maybe with similar intress, and you're kind of
- 32:36Speaker 1: like feeding each other's fuel.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Right, yeah, or maybe you're suffering from maybe it's a
- 32:41Speaker 2: mental illness or something like that. However, these guys, I
- 32:47Speaker 2: no way do I even want to think about putting
- 32:49Speaker 2: myself in their shoes. They are garbage yeh, fucking people,
- 32:53Speaker 2: oh fuck.
- 32:54Speaker 1: From nothing that I even read, like, it doesn't sound
- 32:57Speaker 1: like any of them even have really any trauma in
- 32:59Speaker 1: their back background either, Like they seem like they're like
- 33:02Speaker 1: even in their investigator or their interrogation and stuff, like
- 33:05Speaker 1: their parents are in their room and stuff that's pretty
- 33:07Speaker 1: supportive parents.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Yeah. It's just pure evil for the sake of entertainment. Yeah,
- 33:15Speaker 2: and apparently, by the sounds of it, potential fame.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that they did want to be famous from this
- 33:23Speaker 1: for sure. So on September twenty first, two thousand and six,
- 33:27Speaker 1: this is the day before Cassie's murder. The conversation between
- 33:31Speaker 1: the boys went as follows. Brian, hopefully this will go
- 33:36Speaker 1: smoothly and we can get our first kill done and
- 33:38Speaker 1: then keep going toy for you serial killers watching this tape.
- 33:44Speaker 1: They both laugh. Tory says, I don't know what to say.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Brian goes, it's like he stutters, Tory, good luck with that.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Brian says, good luck. Tory said, hopefully you don't have
- 33:56Speaker 1: like eight or nine failures like we have. Brian goes, Yeah,
- 34:00Speaker 1: we probably tried maybe ten times, but they've never been
- 34:03Speaker 1: home alone, so Tori goes, or when they have, their
- 34:08Speaker 1: parents end up showing up. Brian says, as long as
- 34:12Speaker 1: you're patient, you know. And we were patient, and now
- 34:15Speaker 1: we're getting paid off because our victim's home alone. So
- 34:18Speaker 1: we got her, our plan all worked out. Now I'm sorry.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I'm sorry Cassie's family, but she has to be the
- 34:24Speaker 1: one we have to stick with this plan, and she's perfect,
- 34:28Speaker 1: so she's gonna die.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Holy fuck.
- 34:31Speaker 1: M H.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I hope these guys rot yeah or like either wow, okay, wow.
- 34:39Speaker 1: So the next clip is just before the murder, and
- 34:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna actually play the audio for this one, so
- 34:45Speaker 1: you ready all.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Right, let's hear it.
- 34:48Speaker 3: We're here in his car. The time is nine fifty
- 34:56Speaker 3: September twenty second, two thousand and six. Unfortunately, we have
- 35:02Speaker 3: the grueling task of killing our two friends.
- 35:07Speaker 4: And they are right in a house just down the street.
- 35:11Speaker 4: We just talked to them. We were there for an hour.
- 35:15Speaker 4: We checked out the whole house.
- 35:17Speaker 3: We know there's lots of doors, there's lots of places
- 35:20Speaker 3: to hide.
- 35:22Speaker 4: I locked the back doors. That's all a lot.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Now we just gotta wait, and we're.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Really nervous right now. You know, we're ready. We're listening
- 35:32Speaker 4: to the Grain as Rock. We wait for this for
- 35:34Speaker 4: a long time, Floyd, before we commit the ultimate crime
- 35:38Speaker 4: of murder. We wait for this for a long time,
- 35:40Speaker 4: a long time. We'll stay tuned.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Fuck them, I know, it's quite disturbing.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Hey, there's so much a lot about it.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yeah, like they're excited and like nervous and shiit, but
- 35:58Speaker 1: like they really it's almost like they do kind of
- 36:01Speaker 1: realize it's wrong, but it's like it's amp and them.
- 36:03Speaker 1: They got to do this, like this is what they're
- 36:05Speaker 1: meant to do.
- 36:05Speaker 2: They don't sound nervous to me, No, they sound just excited.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Like they do sound like they're not taking it seriously.
- 36:12Speaker 1: I almost wonder if they're they fully realize what the
- 36:16Speaker 1: fuck like they're about to do.
- 36:18Speaker 2: I don't think they do, because like they sound excited,
- 36:21Speaker 2: but they don't sound like adrenaline excited, like you think
- 36:25Speaker 2: that someone like that would be. There's no I don't
- 36:27Speaker 2: hear a rush in their voice. I just hear like, Oh,
- 36:32Speaker 2: I'm gonna go get my favorite pizza tonight excited. You know.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I don't feel like they fully realize the extent of
- 36:40Speaker 1: what their consequences are going to be.
- 36:42Speaker 2: So wow.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Yeah, And I should say like they initially did feel
- 36:47Speaker 1: there's other tapes and stuff, So at one point I
- 36:50Speaker 1: think they thought this was going to be kind of
- 36:51Speaker 1: like a party. So they're going to be killing like
- 36:53Speaker 1: Cassie and all her friends, and then Matt was just there,
- 36:56Speaker 1: so they're also going to be killing Matt. Yeah, and
- 36:59Speaker 1: then kind of when they were already in the basement,
- 37:01Speaker 1: like Matt leaves right, so then he's not a victim.
- 37:05Speaker 1: So now the next audio clip, I think this is
- 37:07Speaker 1: the last one we have. This is right after the murder.
- 37:11Speaker 3: I just killed Cassie. We just left her house. This
- 37:14Speaker 3: is not a fucking joke. I stabbed her and I
- 37:18Speaker 3: saw her life was body just disappeared. Dude killed cassieh
- 37:25Speaker 3: fuck that felt like will I mean I so bad?
- 37:30Speaker 4: Fuck up? We gotta get our app shaped Okay.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Wow yeah see there you can hear that adrenaline pumping.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but mostly only in Brian, who's the one that
- 37:44Speaker 1: says it's true, that's true. That one's kind of like
- 37:47Speaker 1: we got like, fuck, shut up, we gotta get our
- 37:49Speaker 1: ship together. Yeah, because there was a little bit more
- 37:52Speaker 1: after that, but it was like kind of not really audible.
- 37:56Speaker 1: So Brian had said that it's okay, okay, we just
- 38:00Speaker 1: have to go buy movie tickets now, like this that's
- 38:03Speaker 1: going to solve all this, and then they were like bye,
- 38:07Speaker 1: and that's the end of that.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Hotly fuck.
- 38:11Speaker 1: So the police arrested them both and Brian changed his
- 38:14Speaker 1: story again.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Oh again.
- 38:16Speaker 1: This time he admitted, admitted that he had actually stabbed Cassie,
- 38:20Speaker 1: but he'd only done it because Tory had forced him to.
- 38:23Speaker 1: But again the camera said otherwise. It was actually Brian
- 38:27Speaker 1: seen in the footage after the killing bragging about how
- 38:30Speaker 1: he'd just killed Cassie, not Tory. In fact, Tory never
- 38:34Speaker 1: once said anything about what he'd done to Cassie, not
- 38:37Speaker 1: even using the word we to suggest that he'd done
- 38:40Speaker 1: any of the stabbing himself in any of the videos.
- 38:44Speaker 1: So this was enough for Tory's defense to claim that
- 38:47Speaker 1: he'd actually played no part in it, only that he'd
- 38:50Speaker 1: been the one to have the cards flipped on him
- 38:52Speaker 1: when Brian had taken this from being a prank to
- 38:55Speaker 1: a murder. But the prosecution had that tape and both
- 39:00Speaker 1: of the boys and it looked excited and eager when
- 39:03Speaker 1: they talked about who they're going to kill and how
- 39:06Speaker 1: many people they wanted to do this to. Both of
- 39:09Speaker 1: them were found guilty of first sery murder and conspiracy
- 39:13Speaker 1: to commit murder, landing them with life sentences without the
- 39:17Speaker 1: possibility of parole. Good They both tried to appeal, but
- 39:23Speaker 1: their appeals were rejected and that seemed to be the
- 39:26Speaker 1: end of it. Their sentences weren't going to bring Cassie back,
- 39:30Speaker 1: but the boys would at least spend the rest of
- 39:31Speaker 1: their lives behind bars until a ban of life sentences
- 39:35Speaker 1: for miners was placed on all convictions in Idaho. But thankfully,
- 39:41Speaker 1: their sentences were again upheld. And so there's a lot
- 39:45Speaker 1: of things we're going to discuss. The first one, Should
- 39:48Speaker 1: teenagers who commit a crime be locked up for the
- 39:51Speaker 1: rest of their lives? Do they really know what they're
- 39:54Speaker 1: doing when they commit these crimes. Do they have a
- 39:57Speaker 1: higher chance of being rehabilitated and going on to live
- 40:00Speaker 1: normal lives later? What do you think of that?
- 40:04Speaker 2: I might not have everyone on the same wavelength, is
- 40:09Speaker 2: what I think for this, But I'm pretty sure that
- 40:14Speaker 2: when you kill someone intentionally, you take a life, that
- 40:19Speaker 2: life is never going to come back. Oh no, And like,
- 40:22Speaker 2: whether you're sixteen.
- 40:23Speaker 1: She had a lot of potential with that life.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Yeah, whether you're sixteen or sixty, that life is never
- 40:28Speaker 2: going to come back, and you intentionally took that life.
- 40:32Speaker 2: So I think you should be treated as such, regardless
- 40:35Speaker 2: of your age when it comes to that.
- 40:38Speaker 1: I mean, the only thing I think about with the
- 40:40Speaker 1: rehabilitation is that you're younger, so maybe have a bit
- 40:45Speaker 1: more time, Maybe you're a bit more influential to be rehabilitated.
- 40:50Speaker 1: But in like extense, like this case, maybe they could
- 40:55Speaker 1: be rehabilitated, but their crime was so horrible that like
- 41:01Speaker 1: they did an adult crime, so they should probably serve
- 41:04Speaker 1: as an adult, right, Yeah, I don't now.
- 41:08Speaker 2: I do want to say one more thing though, I
- 41:10Speaker 2: want to backtrack just slightly with those tapes.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, we're gonna we have some more stuff to
- 41:14Speaker 1: discuss here.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Tory never you said, he never said anything incriminating really
- 41:20Speaker 2: on himself, and those tapes did he He did?
- 41:22Speaker 1: So this is this is something I wanted to discuss.
- 41:25Speaker 1: So Tory, in a lot of incidences, comes across a
- 41:29Speaker 1: lot of people think that he's like the the controlling
- 41:33Speaker 1: one almost.
- 41:34Speaker 2: That's what I was leaning towards.
- 41:35Speaker 1: And that Brian's kind of the follower.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But so there's another documentary that I watch. It's called
- 41:42Speaker 1: it's actually interesting. I'm gonna link it. It's Lost for Life,
- 41:45Speaker 1: and it's a documentary about youth who are serving life
- 41:48Speaker 1: in prison and so Brian, So this is I think
- 41:53Speaker 1: the documentary was like six years after the murder, and
- 41:58Speaker 1: so Brian has done a lot of work. He really
- 42:01Speaker 1: admits that he's guilty, like he seems like he shows remorse.
- 42:06Speaker 1: But then I also wonder something he said in there
- 42:10Speaker 1: was that like you kind of almost have to be
- 42:14Speaker 1: this way if you want to like kind of ever
- 42:18Speaker 1: maybe get released. So I'm like, is he playing a game,
- 42:20Speaker 1: but he did seem remorseful, whereas Tory toris in this
- 42:25Speaker 1: documentary with his parents and none of them admit that
- 42:29Speaker 1: he did this. Still really like his mom says that
- 42:33Speaker 1: he's a kind boy.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm sure he is.
- 42:37Speaker 1: And that he and the dad is like, yeah, you're innocent,
- 42:40Speaker 1: Like this must be hard for you, Like you're in prison,
- 42:43Speaker 1: serving time and you're innocent. But like he's all in
- 42:47Speaker 1: all of these recordings and like planning these murders. The
- 42:52Speaker 1: only one that kind of makes Brian seem more guilty,
- 42:58Speaker 1: I guess is that final taper is like I just
- 43:00Speaker 1: killed Cassie.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Yeah. See. I do think that Tory was more the
- 43:05Speaker 2: puppet master, the manipulator in the situation. I think because
- 43:09Speaker 2: usually in a situation like this, when you do have
- 43:11Speaker 2: younger individuals, there's someone who sparks that idea, someone who
- 43:16Speaker 2: initiates the thought of we're gonna kill someone. We're gonna
- 43:19Speaker 2: take this person, they're gonna be our victim. I think
- 43:21Speaker 2: that's Tory. Even in that tape where he's like, calm down,
- 43:25Speaker 2: we gotta get our story straight. He's thinking straight. He's
- 43:28Speaker 2: in my head, thinking like a serial killer.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Yeah, like we gotta like figure this one out so
- 43:35Speaker 1: we can do our next one.
- 43:36Speaker 2: Yes, exactly, He's he's thinking ahead.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Now, he was young enough that he didn't cover all
- 43:42Speaker 2: his bases with the filmmaking and stuff. But he didn't
- 43:44Speaker 2: even say on that tape like I killed her. He
- 43:46Speaker 2: might have been thinking not to say that on tape
- 43:50Speaker 2: on purpose.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he could. And even in that I should show
- 43:54Speaker 1: you the one clip of the documentary because the dad's
- 43:56Speaker 1: kind of like, like you're innocent, and like.
- 44:00Speaker 2: His dad's a dumb ass.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Well, even the way that Tory kind of just like
- 44:04Speaker 1: looks at them and then like looks down like I
- 44:08Speaker 1: I don't know his parents. I'm sorry, but like there's
- 44:12Speaker 1: I get sticking with your kid and like and supporting them,
- 44:17Speaker 1: but he's a monster, and like he actually should probably
- 44:20Speaker 1: be working on how to get help.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I think if Tory had it his way, he
- 44:26Speaker 2: would not have or so none of that stuff would
- 44:30Speaker 2: have been found. The evidence would get buried, and then
- 44:33Speaker 2: Matt would have said those two were with me that
- 44:35Speaker 2: night and he would have ended up pinning it on Brian.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Tory would have got a wastecott free I think Brian
- 44:42Speaker 2: he brought him into it as his scapegoat.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Well, yeah, because Brian was the one that ended up
- 44:47Speaker 1: cracking right and and and showed the investigators where they buried.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Shit.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Tory probably would have been closed, lip tight lip.
- 44:55Speaker 1: I don't know the same.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah whatever.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Okay, So Cassie's entire family had undoubtfully does that how
- 45:05Speaker 1: you say that? Undoubtfully and doubtfully suffered from grief as
- 45:09Speaker 1: a result of this terrible loss. Her aunt and uncle
- 45:13Speaker 1: and cousin who discovered Cassie's murdered body in their own
- 45:17Speaker 1: home when they were returned from their trip, had been
- 45:21Speaker 1: greatly impacted. They left their house that day and they
- 45:25Speaker 1: never went back. The local sheriff's office helped with temper
- 45:29Speaker 1: housing for them and cleaning up of the crime scene,
- 45:31Speaker 1: but the family could never bring themselves to go back.
- 45:35Speaker 1: The cousin who was the one to discover Cassie's body
- 45:39Speaker 1: suffered a breakdown and apparently attempted suicide.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Wow.
- 45:44Speaker 1: So it just kind of shows you people's actions, like
- 45:49Speaker 1: it's now affecting how many people.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Every action has a reaction. It goes down the line.
- 45:52Speaker 2: It's not just an immediate Yeah, the butterfly effect right.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's the story of Cassie.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Wow, those two individuals. I'm glad they're behind bars for life.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I really am. I'm sorry if people disagree with me,
- 46:09Speaker 2: but I really do think that they should be behind bars.
- 46:11Speaker 2: I don't care if they're sixteen. They intentionally did this.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Honestly, this case took me a water research and I
- 46:17Speaker 1: think it was just because it's so heavy and so disturbing.
- 46:20Speaker 2: It is very disturbing.
- 46:21Speaker 1: That it's almost like and the amount of documentaries I
- 46:24Speaker 1: watched and I'm going to I think that you should
- 46:26Speaker 1: watch parts of that one. We are going to link
- 46:29Speaker 1: it because the one where it shows them years later,
- 46:32Speaker 1: it had other people in the documentary as well, and
- 46:34Speaker 1: it just is like kind of interesting.
- 46:37Speaker 2: So all I know is those two are fucked up. Yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 2: I like wow very much. This is gonna be one
- 46:43Speaker 2: of those ones on the top list that really bother me.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you're very antsy right now, you're very agitated.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Well, the always I need reasons, I need why, I
- 46:53Speaker 2: need to understand logic. There's no logic to this, zero, nothing,
- 46:59Speaker 2: not at all, and those piss me off.
- 47:02Speaker 1: I honestly think though, if these two boys did not
- 47:04Speaker 1: find each other or become friends or become close or
- 47:08Speaker 1: whatever that this probably wouldn't have happened. I don't think
- 47:12Speaker 1: one of them would have done it.
- 47:13Speaker 2: I think Tory would have found a way another day
- 47:16Speaker 2: to murder someone. I think it was rooted in Tory.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I think he was going to do it one day somehow.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh shoot, because one of them, I think it
- 47:28Speaker 1: was Tory had one of them, I think, Yeah, I'm
- 47:33Speaker 1: pretty sure it was Tory had like child pornography and
- 47:37Speaker 1: animal abuse. Oh really stuff on their laptop. But their
- 47:42Speaker 1: laptop I think was not actually supposed to be like
- 47:44Speaker 1: seized or something, so it wasn't able to be held.
- 47:47Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm pretty sure like one of them was
- 47:49Speaker 1: literally like a serial killer in the making. Witch.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and was it Tory that you said idolized the
- 47:54Speaker 2: individuals from the col of Mine show? No, No, it
- 47:56Speaker 2: wasn't Brian Ryan.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah, but I don't know Brian. He did seem like
- 48:04Speaker 1: both of them actually didn't have like the characteristics necessarily
- 48:07Speaker 1: of being quite weird in high school, like they had friends.
- 48:09Speaker 1: They seemed like pretty normal, especially Brian. And I don't know.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Sometimes I think kids at age just say shit when
- 48:17Speaker 1: they don't really mean it either, you know, yeah, fair enough.
- 48:20Speaker 2: So wow, thank you for that absolutely disturbingly heavy case.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Appreciate that one.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm here for.
- 48:27Speaker 2: And that's what you're here for. Hey wow. Okay, Well,
