- 3:24Speaker 5: like on the first day of school. I am so
- 3:26Speaker 5: proud of this little girl. She's sitting up there and
- 3:29Speaker 5: she's taking it all in. She's going to another charter
- 3:33Speaker 5: school down here in Charlston, which is it was ranked
- 3:35Speaker 5: number ten in South Carolina for public charter schools. She
- 3:45Speaker 5: is excited and I just to look on her eyes
- 3:48Speaker 5: today it was like, okay, all right, my baby's getting older,
- 3:54Speaker 5: which you mean I'm getting older? I can tell by
- 3:57Speaker 5: the great Head of y'all can see, boy, the great
- 3:59Speaker 5: head is a great. But tonight I have a wonderful,
- 4:03Speaker 5: beautiful lady who's gonna talk about her survival. Okay, I
- 4:08Speaker 5: want you guys to join me as I bring up
- 4:11Speaker 5: author Charlotte Gillespie. Come on up, girly.
- 4:16Speaker 7: Okay, how are you? I'm good?
- 4:20Speaker 6: Are I am good? I am good?
- 4:25Speaker 5: So before we go any further, tell us a little
- 4:31Speaker 5: bit about yourself.
- 4:34Speaker 7: My name is Charlotte Gillespie.
- 4:35Speaker 8: I am from Olive, French, Mississippi born and raised. I
- 4:40Speaker 8: am thirty three years old.
- 4:42Speaker 7: I am an author.
- 4:44Speaker 8: I am a certified childcare director. I am now getting
- 4:47Speaker 8: my license to be a knife and health insurance agent.
- 4:53Speaker 8: My goal has always been to help people. I am
- 4:56Speaker 8: a Christian, I belong to the High Place. I'm a
- 5:00Speaker 8: Mount Pistol Baptist Church and I'm French.
- 5:03Speaker 7: And I just love being the young lady that I am.
- 5:10Speaker 5: Okay, I can't I see you. You have all these
- 5:15Speaker 5: things going on and you have time to write a book.
- 5:21Speaker 5: One means you want to become an author.
- 5:27Speaker 8: My life story, My life story is what made me
- 5:31Speaker 8: write my first book, which is entitled I Survived.
- 5:36Speaker 6: How many books do you have out there right now?
- 5:39Speaker 8: So I have I Survived, which released in twenty twenty one.
- 5:46Speaker 8: I release three just this year June twenty fifth, on
- 5:51Speaker 8: my birthday, I released as Survived Journal. I release Beauty
- 5:56Speaker 8: from Brokenness, which is a journal, and I really yas
- 6:02Speaker 8: be from Survival to Purpose, which is another book. Those
- 6:07Speaker 8: three were leased on June twenty fifth.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Of this shit, ooh, I loved that title from Survival
- 6:14Speaker 6: the Purpose. How did you come up with a title
- 6:18Speaker 6: like that?
- 6:22Speaker 7: So that title, it came from a book I survived.
- 6:28Speaker 8: And I always believed that I had a purpose of surviving,
- 6:35Speaker 8: that I had a I I had.
- 6:37Speaker 7: A reason to survive. I had a purpose to survive.
- 6:43Speaker 8: There was no other way that God kept me here
- 6:49Speaker 8: other than to grant a me a purpose of being here.
- 6:54Speaker 8: So I wanted people to know the shift from just
- 6:59Speaker 8: survi to surviving with they purpose.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Mm, how do you do that?
- 7:08Speaker 6: Cause I've never heard that the shift from surviving to
- 7:13Speaker 6: surviving with a purpose. Tell us a little bit about that.
- 7:21Speaker 9: Well s, you have some people that just survive.
- 7:26Speaker 8: I mean they're just here on earth. They have no purpose.
- 7:30Speaker 8: They just believe they are here just because they are here.
- 7:36Speaker 8: But in life, you have a purpose. There's a purpose
- 7:39Speaker 8: to everything. You have a purpose to be someone. You
- 7:45Speaker 8: have a purpose to achieve your dream or achieve your goal.
- 7:51Speaker 8: You have a purpose even just for people. God gives
- 7:55Speaker 8: you a purpose for everything. So I believe out of
- 8:01Speaker 8: coming out of a moment of just surviving, just being here,
- 8:05Speaker 8: just saying I'm Charlotte, you know all of that to
- 8:10Speaker 8: having a purpose of being here, I have a purpose
- 8:13Speaker 8: to encourage people. I have a purpose to help people.
- 8:18Speaker 8: I have a purpose to help children. I have a purpose.
- 8:21Speaker 8: So I have a purpose for all this matter. So
- 8:26Speaker 8: it's more on earth than just surviving. God gave you
- 8:30Speaker 8: more than just surviving. He gave you a reason to survive.
- 8:34Speaker 8: So your reason to survive is your purpose here on earth.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Now, if you guys can catch that, I don't know
- 8:42Speaker 5: what you're looking at, because she just said your reason
- 8:45Speaker 5: to survive is a reason for the purpose. That's so
- 8:49Speaker 5: much that is said in that one statement. But there
- 8:53Speaker 5: might be a viewer tonight who wants to know, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 5: how do I find out my purpose? Can you tell
- 8:58Speaker 5: us a little bit of how you have your purpose?
- 9:02Speaker 8: I found my purpose in my life. And what I
- 9:08Speaker 8: mean by that, your testimony can find your purpose your
- 9:16Speaker 8: Maybe grief finds your purpose, Maybe illness finds your purpose,
- 9:22Speaker 8: Maybe trauma finds your purpose.
- 9:25Speaker 7: It may be something you just go through.
- 9:28Speaker 8: In life that gives you a purpose or help you
- 9:32Speaker 8: find that purpose. And that is what when I do
- 9:37Speaker 8: when I talk about my book I Survive, that will
- 9:41Speaker 8: explain my purpose.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Okay, so we have this beautiful book cover up here,
- 9:50Speaker 5: tell us a little bit about the eye survived book.
- 9:53Speaker 6: What if a reader opens up your book? What would
- 9:56Speaker 6: they find inside?
- 9:59Speaker 7: So I Survived is a personal testimony.
- 10:04Speaker 8: It's a personal testimony, personal encourage, encouragement, personal maybe take away,
- 10:12Speaker 8: or as I call it, a personal survival God. When
- 10:17Speaker 8: I was born, I was born as what you call
- 10:21Speaker 8: an ECHMO baby. If MO babies either they pass away
- 10:26Speaker 8: as a baby or they don't.
- 10:28Speaker 7: They only live up to five years old. As I
- 10:31Speaker 7: said in the beginning. I'm thirty three.
- 10:36Speaker 8: That's the That's why I gave the title I survived.
- 10:40Speaker 8: A Nikmo baby is a baby that so I was
- 10:44Speaker 8: born later than I was supposed to be, and I
- 10:51Speaker 8: actually formed a bowel movement while inside my mother's womb
- 10:57Speaker 8: uh which calls it to back into my lungs because
- 11:01Speaker 8: I wasn't born yet, which UHM, basically messed up my bloodstreak.
- 11:08Speaker 8: So they put me on uh an ecmo machine. Before
- 11:13Speaker 8: putting me on an ecmo machine, I couldn't breathe on
- 11:17Speaker 8: my own.
- 11:18Speaker 7: All of that nothing was, you know, working.
- 11:21Speaker 8: So they told my mother, my grandmother, my aunt, my
- 11:25Speaker 8: grandfather come see her for the last time. This is
- 11:29Speaker 8: probably the day or two after I was born, So
- 11:33Speaker 8: they all went down to see me. My mother wasn't
- 11:35Speaker 8: even dismissed from the hospital. They all went down to
- 11:38Speaker 8: see me, and they told them said, well, it's nothing
- 11:43Speaker 8: we can do here, even up coming to her death,
- 11:46Speaker 8: it's nothing we can do.
- 11:48Speaker 7: So what we're going to do.
- 11:50Speaker 8: We're going to out lived her to Labanna Ho Children's Hospital,
- 11:54Speaker 8: which is a hospital streakily for children in Memphis, Tennessee,
- 12:00Speaker 8: and we're going to let them do what they have
- 12:03Speaker 8: to do there until she passes. So that's what they did.
- 12:10Speaker 8: They well, they got ready to put me in there.
- 12:15Speaker 8: I started breathing on my own. I started doing everything
- 12:21Speaker 8: that a baby was supposed to do. And that's in
- 12:24Speaker 8: that timing from them telling my family up until them
- 12:28Speaker 8: getting me in the ambulance. The doctor comes a back
- 12:32Speaker 8: into the room of my where my family was and
- 12:36Speaker 8: like it's funny things. We got her in the ambulance
- 12:39Speaker 8: and she started.
- 12:40Speaker 7: Breathing on her own.
- 12:43Speaker 8: My grandmother said, look at my guid working and the
- 12:47Speaker 8: doctor said, you were praying he's She said, n ye, no,
- 12:51Speaker 8: I wasn't praying.
- 12:52Speaker 7: We were praying.
- 12:54Speaker 8: So he said, we're going to take on to Labanor
- 12:57Speaker 8: we're going to put her on the uh.
- 13:00Speaker 7: Oxygen machine.
- 13:02Speaker 8: Well, I think they did a ventilator and we're going
- 13:05Speaker 8: to put on what we call an ekmo machine. So
- 13:09Speaker 8: that's what they did. They shipped me to Lebanner. I
- 13:12Speaker 8: stayed in a banda thirty days with twobes. I had
- 13:15Speaker 8: a tube right here in my neck. I had a
- 13:18Speaker 8: tube in my wrist, I had tubes all other places.
- 13:22Speaker 8: I had a this echmo machine, which is it sucks
- 13:27Speaker 8: your blood out of your body, filter it and put
- 13:30Speaker 8: it back into your body. And it did that for
- 13:34Speaker 8: I don't know how long. So a nurse sat around
- 13:38Speaker 8: with me for twenty four hours. It was a nurse
- 13:41Speaker 8: always around me. They would take their shifts, and the
- 13:44Speaker 8: nurse stayed around me for every day all day. So
- 13:50Speaker 8: close to the end of my hospital stay, they told
- 13:53Speaker 8: my mother. They like, okay, well you come to the
- 13:56Speaker 8: hospital and stay with her one night before she goes
- 13:58Speaker 8: home so she can learn how to suck a bottle,
- 14:00Speaker 8: suck a fast, a fire, and do all this.
- 14:03Speaker 7: Uh, she didn't have to do that.
- 14:05Speaker 8: I was capable of sucking my holding my own bottle
- 14:09Speaker 8: and everything.
- 14:10Speaker 7: So that next day I went home.
- 14:14Speaker 8: I went back to my doctor every year up until
- 14:19Speaker 8: first couple of years, up until I was five, which
- 14:22Speaker 8: they said, okay, well she survived this moment.
- 14:25Speaker 7: She probably won't live up to the age of only
- 14:28Speaker 7: up to.
- 14:28Speaker 8: The age of five, I went to the doctor every
- 14:32Speaker 8: year to the age of five. After the age of five,
- 14:37Speaker 8: my doctor that actually waited on me.
- 14:40Speaker 7: He took me all.
- 14:42Speaker 8: He waited on me all the way up until I
- 14:44Speaker 8: was eighteen eighteen years old.
- 14:47Speaker 7: Every time I would go in the doctor's office.
- 14:49Speaker 8: He would smile and shake his head because he said
- 14:53Speaker 8: he'd never seen an echmobb live that long after supping.
- 14:59Speaker 8: Going to him, I'm now thirty three and I'll still
- 15:03Speaker 8: alive with the complicated.
- 15:08Speaker 7: So see, that's the story of my book. I survived.
- 15:12Speaker 6: See doctor, I am, I am offered doctors.
- 15:17Speaker 5: You guys do not get me wrong, but they have
- 15:21Speaker 5: to understand that they don't have the last say so.
- 15:24Speaker 5: I don't know why doctors feel like they did. You know,
- 15:29Speaker 5: God has the last say so if it is the
- 15:32Speaker 5: outcome that you want or the outcome that you don't want,
- 15:35Speaker 5: like he has the last say so, and you miss
- 15:40Speaker 5: miracle Davy, How does it feel this hell? And to
- 15:45Speaker 5: show them you didn't have my faith? My family have
- 15:51Speaker 5: my faith and I'm still here despite what your medical records,
- 15:56Speaker 5: Mas say.
- 15:57Speaker 6: How does that feel?
- 16:02Speaker 7: It feels? It feels amazing.
- 16:05Speaker 10: You know I tell people all the time, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 10: I go to church and you see me praise God,
- 16:12Speaker 10: and y you know, it's just it's n It's just
- 16:15Speaker 10: not a praising God moment.
- 16:17Speaker 8: You know, it's a moment of I don't look like
- 16:21Speaker 8: what I've been through, or it's a.
- 16:24Speaker 7: Moment of God was on my side.
- 16:28Speaker 8: You know, God, God, God was the healer in that moment.
- 16:34Speaker 8: So I don't have any other reason but to praise him,
- 16:39Speaker 8: despite what the doctor say, despite what people say, I
- 16:43Speaker 8: have a reason to praise him. So it was a
- 16:46Speaker 8: great it's a great feeling to tell my story. It's
- 16:49Speaker 8: a great feeling cause to me, my story is more
- 16:52Speaker 8: than a story.
- 16:53Speaker 7: It's more than a book. It's a testimony. It's a
- 16:57Speaker 7: moment that I can tell people.
- 17:00Speaker 8: You know, I can encourage people, you know, even through
- 17:04Speaker 8: healing process of whether they are younger than me, same
- 17:07Speaker 8: age as me, older than me. If God did it
- 17:11Speaker 8: for me, he'll do it for you. So it's a
- 17:14Speaker 8: it's a good.
- 17:15Speaker 6: Feeling girl looking at him. Look at here.
- 17:24Speaker 5: God is amazing and out of love and he proved
- 17:28Speaker 5: people wrong.
- 17:30Speaker 7: Mm hmm.
- 17:31Speaker 5: That's why he says, know that I am God. People
- 17:35Speaker 5: kind of maybe forgetting that he is Kirl look at
- 17:39Speaker 5: him some If you could say anything to your readers
- 17:46Speaker 5: before they open up your book, I'd survive. What would
- 17:50Speaker 5: you say to them, you said.
- 17:54Speaker 8: I would say before they open up my book that
- 18:02Speaker 8: to just n just view the cover. You may not
- 18:08Speaker 8: know that you're looking at a miracle on that cover.
- 18:11Speaker 8: But the title says that you're looking at a miracle.
- 18:17Speaker 8: And I know surviving comes in different ways, so I
- 18:20Speaker 8: know you wouldn't know what the survival story is until
- 18:24Speaker 8: you open the book, but just the title of it,
- 18:29Speaker 8: just seeing the book, just know that you're looking at
- 18:33Speaker 8: a miracle. Just know that there is a story to
- 18:36Speaker 8: tell once you're.
- 18:38Speaker 7: Opening this book.
- 18:40Speaker 8: And that's what I would tell readers before they open
- 18:42Speaker 8: my book. When you see that cover, just know when
- 18:47Speaker 8: you open this book, it's there's a story that that's
- 18:50Speaker 8: told in that book.
- 18:52Speaker 7: Matter of fact, there's a testimony that's told in that book.
- 18:57Speaker 5: I am very glad you ended it like that because
- 19:01Speaker 5: if you know me and you see my show, you
- 19:06Speaker 5: know I have this segment that's called the Fun Questions.
- 19:10Speaker 5: So we gonna have to put you back in the
- 19:12Speaker 5: hot seat, baby girl, and we're gonna see if you're ready. Okay, okay,
- 19:19Speaker 5: so your test some I love Lifetime over Network. And
- 19:27Speaker 5: the reason why I love Lifetime Overing Network is because
- 19:29Speaker 5: Lifetime Moving Network they like to do biopics. I love biopics.
- 19:36Speaker 5: I just got to punished. One of my favorite biopics
- 19:39Speaker 5: now is the Clark sisters. I love that bio pic.
- 19:43Speaker 5: I can look at that fifty million times. But now
- 19:46Speaker 5: we're gonna talk about your biopicments, Charlotte. So Lifetime just
- 19:52Speaker 5: called me and said, hey, you know, Charlotte, we just
- 19:54Speaker 5: read your book and we want to make it into
- 19:56Speaker 5: a movie and we want you to help us cast
- 20:00Speaker 5: members of your story. Well, michell Aleque, we want to
- 20:04Speaker 5: know who would you like to play your mother? But
- 20:07Speaker 5: this person has to be a female gospel artist. Who
- 20:14Speaker 5: would it be? And why did you chose that person.
- 20:20Speaker 7: To play my mother?
- 20:22Speaker 6: To play your mom?
- 20:25Speaker 7: It would be.
- 20:33Speaker 8: I love Tamila Man.
- 20:36Speaker 6: Okay, And why did you choose Tamila Man?
- 20:41Speaker 7: Only because her song, her songs.
- 20:45Speaker 8: Met my story and that you know, it may not
- 20:47Speaker 8: be about the song, but it's just like her songs
- 20:51Speaker 8: are so encouraging, her songs are inspiring.
- 20:54Speaker 7: And like she even have a song I survive.
- 20:57Speaker 9: So it's like.
- 20:59Speaker 7: I just feel like she would relate to what you know.
- 21:06Speaker 5: Okay, So we have Timi, a man that is playing
- 21:11Speaker 5: your mother. Now we all know that a lot of
- 21:14Speaker 5: us have those preen grandmothers.
- 21:18Speaker 6: I had two of them.
- 21:20Speaker 5: And god I miss them, but I know they praying,
- 21:24Speaker 5: who would you get to play your grandmother? And she
- 21:28Speaker 5: can be anyone you.
- 21:30Speaker 7: Would like, gospel or just anybody, anybody.
- 21:39Speaker 8: If I had to get someone to play my grandmother,
- 21:43Speaker 8: it would be one of her.
- 21:46Speaker 11: Because more than anything, okay, I would choose her sister,
- 21:53Speaker 11: that Neil next door to her, cause she was always
- 21:56Speaker 11: around and she would know her reaction.
- 21:58Speaker 8: She was even there at the hospital or always was
- 22:02Speaker 8: around when things happened.
- 22:04Speaker 5: Then so yeah, okay, so now we got Tamblaman as
- 22:11Speaker 5: your mother, and for your grandmother, we have.
- 22:14Speaker 6: One of her sisters who know her very well.
- 22:17Speaker 5: But now we have the cast, the main character you,
- 22:23Speaker 5: who would play you?
- 22:30Speaker 9: Who would play me? If I would let someone play me,
- 22:45Speaker 9: it would be.
- 22:49Speaker 7: It would probably be one of It would be my cousin.
- 22:52Speaker 6: What are your cousins?
- 22:55Speaker 7: Okay?
- 22:55Speaker 6: Why one of your cousins?
- 23:01Speaker 7: Well, because.
- 23:03Speaker 8: I guess that I would want people that really knew
- 23:06Speaker 8: me or really really knew my story, and most of
- 23:12Speaker 8: my all of my family knew the story, so.
- 23:17Speaker 6: So one of them cousins.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Okay. So if you got tamla Man for your mother,
