- 0:01Hello, Welcome to He's Hot, But something's off with me.
- 0:03Just Joey Tea. It is officially fall in Los
- 0:08Angeles. I mentioned The Weather, The
- 0:10Kickoff, last week's podcast, but it's gone to the point where
- 0:15you know when the weather gets cold and you get the sniffles.
- 0:18Not because you're sick, just because the temperature
- 0:21differences. Like when you go from indoors to
- 0:24outdoors, when you're exercising or walking around or whatever.
- 0:27And I already have sniffles, kind of sort of.
- 0:31Usually I have allergies. I've got hay fever for pollen
- 0:35when it's like most of the year. Now you think pollen's only in
- 0:39the springtime for like 3 months.
- 0:41That is not true. There's pollen from like all
- 0:44sorts of different things from like flowers and grass and from
- 0:48trees. So my hay fever season runs from
- 0:54February to September. So most of the year I have to be
- 0:59taking like a nose spray or some sort of allergy medication.
- 1:02So the winter time is usually when I don't need to do that.
- 1:07But I did recently have some sort of like a cold or flu or
- 1:11something. It's very mild.
- 1:12Maybe it's like a mild cold. And one of the side effects
- 1:17though, after you've kind of sort of gone over the cold for I
- 1:20know it was like four or five days or whatever, but afterwards
- 1:23for like 2 weeks, you just keep having a runny nose.
- 1:27So that's what I had. And it's not that annoying when
- 1:32I'm at home where I'm, I live alone and I'm by myself.
- 1:35I'm not on like conference calls all the time.
- 1:38I can blow my nose whenever I want, but when I'm at the gym it
- 1:43was very annoying because I'd be exercising, obviously, and your
- 1:49body gets warm, which only makes the mucus more runny than usual.
- 1:54So when you have a runny nose and you exercise, your body
- 1:56warms up, you're breathing heavily.
- 1:58That's like the worst environment for a runny nose.
- 2:02And I'm working out, I'm warming up, I'm breathing heavily and
- 2:06it's like so difficult and so annoying at the same time to
- 2:11work at in that state. I wasn't sick because I was like
- 2:13over the cold or whatever it was.
- 2:15But a lot of the times after I've gone over a cold for like a
- 2:19couple weeks, I still have the runny nose and I kind of sort of
- 2:22still have that now and then with the cold weather kicking
- 2:25in. It's like when you go from cold
- 2:27weather to like warm weather and all that.
- 2:29Anyways, there's some scientific medical explanation for all that
- 2:33stuff, but this is a very like, this is a very roundabout way to
- 2:39say that I've got the sniffles. Basically, I can turn any story
- 2:43into a story that's like way, way too long.
- 2:46My friends have basically started saying, yeah, you're
- 2:49kind of meant to do a podcast, aren't you?
- 2:51Because you like talking, but we don't want to hear it.
- 2:55Anyways, Yeah, so it's gone pretty close.
- 2:58Dipped into I was telling my Aussie friends this week is
- 3:01dipped into the single digits on the Celsius scale.
- 3:05It's going to go to like high 40s Fahrenheit.
- 3:09But anyways, last week was Thanksgiving, last Thursday US
- 3:14Thanksgiving, and I went to a friend's place for a
- 3:17Friendsgiving and that's kind of popular within like the queer
- 3:22community. A lot of the times we're not
- 3:25necessarily going home to family that celebrates Thanksgiving.
- 3:29For me, it's not because I have any beef for my family, but my
- 3:31family is a Chinese background and they live in Canada and
- 3:35Thanksgiving in November is US specific thing that doesn't
- 3:40exist anywhere. It's only for Americans and
- 3:42people that like live in the US. So Canadians have their
- 3:46Thanksgiving in October, which like, obviously no one in the US
- 3:49is aware of because Americans. But I went to a friend, have a
- 3:55friends giving because they weren't going to visit their
- 3:58families either. A lot of well, not a lot.
- 4:02But yeah, maybe a lot of queer people in the queer community
- 4:06don't necessarily go back to their blood family.
- 4:09They might just hang out with friends or their chosen family,
- 4:11if you will. So we did a Friendsgiving.
- 4:14It's really, really, really nice.
- 4:15My friends just bought a new place in LA, so they have like
- 4:19the Super nice house to host a bunch of friends and that was
- 4:22pretty fun. We did do that thing where we
- 4:26kind of went around to everyone and everyone said what they were
- 4:29thankful for, which is I feel like a bit of a tradition for
- 4:32people that gather for Thanksgiving, You know, just
- 4:35regardless of who's there or you know, why you all gathered.
- 4:39There are two things I said that I was thankful for.
- 4:42The 1st is my health. And it's one of those things
- 4:46where most people that are in goodish health where there's not
- 4:50like anything obviously wrong with you or whatever.
- 4:53We always kind of take our health a little bit for granted.
- 4:56You know, as you get older, you might feel like, oh, sometimes
- 4:59my, I don't know, knee hurts a little bit or like, I'm not as
- 5:03flexible as before, you know. But by and large, for people
- 5:08that don't have any, like, serious disease or serious
- 5:12condition that impairs their like, day-to-day, most people, I
- 5:18feel like, tend to take their health for granted.
- 5:21And like, I've been in that boat.
- 5:22It's when everything is mostly working and nothing's really
- 5:25wrong. You don't really think about
- 5:26your body. You don't think about, you know,
- 5:28your health. You don't think about, like,
- 5:30what foods you're, you know, putting in your body.
- 5:33You don't think about, like, all how many drinks you're having at
- 5:36the bar, that kind of stuff. But yeah, I think it's kind of
- 5:40nice that, you know, at least once in a while you do a reality
- 5:44check like, oh, like, you know, I'm in pretty good health and
- 5:47that's something to be thankful for and not to, like, really
- 5:50take it for granted. So that's the first thing that I
- 5:52said. The other thing that I was
- 5:54thankful for was, well, I'm about 11 months into this quote
- 5:57UN quote career break, and it hasn't ruined me financially
- 6:00yet. So I'm thankful for that.
- 6:04So on that topic, though, I go really back and forth on whether
- 6:11I should go back to the 9:00 to 5:00.
- 6:13This is a topic we've explored at least a few times on this
- 6:15podcast as time has gone by with doing this podcast for six or
- 6:20seven months now. So obviously, you know, over
- 6:22time my feelings on it kind of sort of change.
- 6:26And on the one hand I'm thinking, well, I've got, I
- 6:31don't want to call them side hustles anymore.
- 6:33I think normal people would consider what I'm doing a side
- 6:36hustle the other ways I'm making money because they're not like
- 6:39typical quote UN quote main sources of income or quote UN
- 6:42quote day jobs. But it's a day job for me now.
- 6:45You know, all the time I spend working, and it's not like I get
- 6:48up at 8:00 and I start working at 9:00 and I stop working at
- 6:525:00. And it's taking me a while to
- 6:53wrap my head around. Just because you're not working
- 6:579:00 to 12:00 having lecture from 12:00 to 1:00, then work
- 6:59from 1:00 to 5:00 doesn't mean you're not doing anything right,
- 7:03Because that nine to five is so ingrained in my head ever since
- 7:07I was like a little kid, right? It was 9 to 5.
- 7:10Get a paycheck. Do that to your retire.
- 7:13And then that was it. I was never, like, taught
- 7:16anything else. Obviously nowadays I, you know,
- 7:18but you know, old habits die hard, right?
- 7:20And you kind of live with a lot of the things you were taught or
- 7:26thought was just the norm for everyone when you were young,
- 7:28right? So there's that.
- 7:30But on the other hand, I won't. I won't say that I'm making
- 7:36enough money to pay my bills and I'm not broke by any means, but
- 7:43definitely I'm not. I'm not technically making
- 7:45enough money from like cash flow point of view to pay all my
- 7:49bills. And that sounds kind of
- 7:53horrible. This society has taught us, you
- 7:57know, like we don't have money. You're kind of sort of less
- 8:01than, but if you have, you know, like the more money you have,
- 8:04the more the the more. Like, socially acceptable it is.
- 8:08Society looks down on people that don't make a lot of money.
- 8:11Maybe not in an explicit way, right?
- 8:14But you know it. It's never like a good feeling.
- 8:16I think you know it's not a good feeling.
- 8:19Like, for example, if you know you go out to eat with your
- 8:24friends and your friends want to go to like a slightly nicer,
- 8:27fancier, pricier place. And then you're sitting down
- 8:31looking at the menu and you're like, I'm not going to pay
- 8:33$30.00 for an entree because like I don't want or can't pay
- 8:39that type of money for food. So yeah, it's when I told the
- 8:45career break, I didn't think it would last this long.
- 8:49So there's a part of me that's like, well, you are working on
- 8:53things and it is bring in money and my revenue is going up like
- 8:57every single month. But then the other side of me is
- 8:59thinking, girl, go, go get AFM job.
- 9:03Because like, if you don't have no money coming in every single
- 9:06month to pay your bills, hey, that money has to come from
- 9:10somewhere and it has to come from like your savings or your
- 9:12investments or like whatever it is.
- 9:15This year I've done a pretty decent job not digging much into
- 9:20my savings at all. Part of it is luck, but I got a
- 9:24huge tax refund that that came out of nowhere.
- 9:28I still can't tell you why I got such a massive tax refund back
- 9:31in like March or April whenever it was.
- 9:35So that was that. And the second thing is I sold a
- 9:38few big ticket items, which I sold my car, So I owned my car
- 9:43outright before it was a used car that I bought for it.
- 9:47It it, it wasn't like a Fiat or like a Pinto.
- 9:50It was like a slightly nice car. So I was like, well, that's just
- 9:53like a chunk of money sitting there depreciating.
- 9:56So I decided sell the car, pocket the cash and I leased a
- 10:01different car, which I can already hear Susie Orman saying.
- 10:05No, no, no, you're not to lease a car.
- 10:07Hey, but but but for me, for my situation, I feel like it makes
- 10:09sense. I'm not here to say I'm making
- 10:13all the best or smartest or whatever financial decisions
- 10:18according to like, Susie Orman. Now that I'm listening to her
- 10:20podcast, I can just hear her voice in my head.
- 10:21It's like, no, why are you leasing a car?
- 10:24But for me and my situation, I was going to sell that car, the
- 10:29old car that I owned outright and take that money and
- 10:33basically invest into the business that I'm starting and
- 10:36we've hit some milestones there. So I just signed the statement
- 10:40of work with a vendor, A manufacturer for the business
- 10:45that I'm trying to kick off. And like the deposit is in like
- 10:50it's real now, like it's real real.
- 10:52There's a part of me that thinks you've never started a business
- 10:57before and like, you don't seem to be, like, researching things
- 11:01that much. And it's like, are you really
- 11:03going to be able to get this off the ground?
- 11:05But then I have this other side of me that I'm really rooting
- 11:08for, which is being almost delusionally optimistic about
- 11:15this being successful. Like, you have to believe in
- 11:18yourself. Like if you think negatively,
- 11:20that of course is going to, like blow up in your face and not be
- 11:23successful. So I have appreciation for
- 11:26anyone who's ever started their own business and has made it
- 11:30successful on like a somewhat consistent basis.
- 11:34Because I feel like it must take so much self-confidence and
- 11:39determination and just being like optimistic through like all
- 11:43the ups and downs. Because starting a business,
- 11:45it's not easy. It's not.
- 11:47Anyone can just go out tomorrow and like start a business.
- 11:50Like a lot of people have started from nothing and built
- 11:52like something awesome for themselves.
- 11:55But statistically the odds are not in your favor.
- 11:59I think they said something like only like a third or something
- 12:02like that of small businesses end up being like successful in
- 12:08like I don't know what time frame we're using.
- 12:10But yeah, it's like conflicting thoughts is kind of sort of
- 12:14like, I feel like I'm not trying super, super hard to start up
- 12:19the business, but I feel like I'm not putting in 40 hours
- 12:23every week of every month to like do stuff for the business.
- 12:28But on the other hand, I'm also thinking like you just need to
- 12:32like believe in yourself more. You just believe.
- 12:34You just need to like as be almost almost delusionally
- 12:39optimistic and be your biggest cheerleader and not have that
- 12:44negative mindset. So getting the 9:00 to 5:00 is
- 12:48not out of the picture. But this is the logical thing
- 12:55that I keep coming back to that's held me grounded is I am
- 12:59looking for jobs. I I'll go on LinkedIn every
- 13:01single day. It's not as many job openings
- 13:03for what I want to do from like the IT stuff that I was doing
- 13:06before for the 9:00 to 5:00 as I would like.
- 13:09But you know, if there's a decent job out there, you know
- 13:14that once that is out there that I'll apply.
- 13:17I'll apply to like four or five jobs this week, actually.
- 13:20But in the meantime, while I'm applying for jobs and looking
- 13:22for jobs, I'm going to keep chipping away at those other
- 13:26sources of income. I don't want to call it a side
- 13:28hustle anymore because it's not, it's not on the side.
- 13:31It is the main thing. And I don't like the word
- 13:34hustle. I never really liked the word
- 13:37hustle. Like, I don't like this slang of
- 13:41like, people saying, oh, you have to hustle, you have to
- 13:43hustle, you have to hustle. I'm always thinking, why didn't
- 13:45you work a little smarter? Like there's a difference
- 13:48between like when I someone, when someone says hustle.
- 13:52My mental image of that is someone who's doing a lot of
- 13:57manual labor or something that's like doing a lot of work
- 14:03physically or spending a lot of time working for maybe not a ton
- 14:08of pay, Which I know it's not like the technical definition of
- 14:12hustle, but it has that, like it has that.
- 14:17It gives me that impression, if you will, right?
- 14:20Typical side hustles are like, you know, if you like drive or
- 14:22for like Uber or Lyft or if you. I don't know, I don't know what
- 14:26typical side hustles are freelance or do a blog or
- 14:29something like that. But I don't like the word hustle
- 14:31for that reason, because I feel like you can do like difficult,
- 14:36like hard to do things to make extra money.
- 14:39Or you could try to look for things that are not as difficult
- 14:44physically, maybe or doesn't take as much of your time, but
- 14:46has a greater return on your investment, Your investment
- 14:50being your time and your energy, right?
- 14:53It's just better value. So that's like the way I see it.
- 14:55Hustling to me means like grinding your nose to the stone
- 14:58or the pavement or whatever and just doing whatever to earn the
- 15:01extra dollar. And these are not hustles for
- 15:04me. I don't I don't feel like
- 15:07they're like work work. It's not like I don't know when
- 15:10when you're when you're younger in your career and you're just
- 15:12like entering into the to whatever career you've chosen
- 15:16and you do like the most manual kind of things.
- 15:17Like I'm in IT and a lot of people start off in Technical
- 15:21Support in IT and it's doing lots of tickets lots of phone
- 15:24calls lots of whatever. And that's a lot of work that is
- 15:28like work work and but as you get you know higher up in the
- 15:31career ladder you you stop doing that type of for like a better
- 15:35term, low level work and you're you get to be like a manager or
- 15:39director all that kind of stuff. But anyways this is not a very
- 15:43round about waste. This is why my friends think
- 15:45it's so great that I have the podcast that I'll talk on my
- 15:47podcast and they don't have to listen to it.
- 15:49But I'm happy with where I am. I mean, I I do have these like
- 15:55thoughts about like, you know, maybe you I do need to make a
- 15:59little bit more money for sure. And I can't, I can't be in this
- 16:03state forever. So it's like, yes, I am looking
- 16:06for jobs. I am looking at job openings
- 16:08every single day I'm applying to stuff.
- 16:10But I'm not just going to take any job.
- 16:15I'm not at that level because I know that would just bring me
- 16:18back to last December when I just like, hated my day job and
- 16:23all I can think of. It's quitting.
- 16:25And that was not a happy time for me.
- 16:27And it's not that much use to spend my time and energy putting
- 16:32myself in that kind of situation for like 40 hours a week when
- 16:36that 40 hours a week can be so much better spent building up
- 16:40the businesses that I have running my other current streams
- 16:45of income. And I much rather invest in
- 16:47that. Maybe that's like the best way
- 16:48to think about it. If you're not charitable, you
- 16:51can say, bitch, get off your lazy ass and go find a job.
- 16:54But hey, to each their own anyways.
- 16:57Changed the topic completely. I pulled my hamstring.
- 17:00So this happened this past weekend and it's kind of sort of
- 17:06in a way. That's nice.
- 17:08I go to the gym a lot and you go to the gym a lot.
- 17:11Eventually you will hurt yourself in some way, shape or
- 17:13form. Never intentional, obviously,
- 17:15but I was on one of the lake machines and I was just going
- 17:19too fast, too furious. Basically on this machine I was
- 17:23channeling some rage into my exercises, which usually helps
- 17:27to, you know, get like a good pump.
- 17:29But I was going a little too fast and a little too heavy on
- 17:32this machine and I was doing my reps and then my right
- 17:36hamstring, it it didn't snap, but like there was like a
- 17:40feeling in it, like a tendon type feeling.
- 17:42So I stopped right away. So I've been laying off my right
- 17:44foot and I've been just resting it and icing it.
- 17:48But today I did go back to the gym.
- 17:52All I did was just like upper body stuff and and that was
- 17:54fine. Yeah, that's always fun when I'm
- 17:57at the gym. What impressed me?
- 18:00What impressed me the most when I'm at the gym?
- 18:02Not that you should be comparing yourself to other people is so
- 18:06when people are courteous that it's a public space that you
- 18:11have to share with others. I was with some friends on our
- 18:15Friendsgiving last Thursday and they said they were.
- 18:20They were at the 24 Hour gym in Hollywood and the 24 hour gym is
- 18:25not a it's lower end gym. Like I was perfectly fine with
- 18:30the 24 hour gym that used to be in West Hollywood before they
- 18:33closed down. They still have to like
- 18:35Hollywood location. They've got locations everywhere
- 18:37actually. It's not like a super expensive
- 18:39high end place, it's more like a regular run-of-the-mill place.
- 18:43However, they were used to Equinox because that that's the
- 18:46regular gym. I don't know why they were at
- 18:48Equinox for like so many months or years and now they went to
- 18:53the 24 hour. I think they just wanted to try
- 18:55it out because they just moved and it was like close by and in
- 18:57the area and they're going back to the Equinox, but they're just
- 19:01used to the Equinox. But they did remark that at the
- 19:0424 hour people don't put their weights back.
- 19:07So you get dumbbells like the free weights and there's always
- 19:11a rack for all the dumbbells and you know people don't put them
- 19:14back where it's supposed to be like the on the rack it's
- 19:17labeled, oh, the 5 LB dumbbells go here, the 10 lbs all you
- 19:20know, the rack has labels of which weights go where.
- 19:24So and they said at Equinox people do a pretty good job put
- 19:27in the weights back and at the 24 hour people don't care.
- 19:31So I wouldn't pay like 2-2 hundred and something dollars a
- 19:35month just because people put their weights back versus people
- 19:38not putting their weights back. But when people don't put the
- 19:41weights back, it is annoying. Basically it's like a bigger gym
- 19:43and the weights you want are not where they're supposed to be on
- 19:46the rack. You now go on like a treasure
- 19:49hunt throughout the gym, and the bigger the gym is, the more
- 19:52annoying it is and the less that people care to put the weights
- 19:55back, the harder the treasure hunt is.
- 19:57You basically go around the gym looking for the weights that you
- 20:00need, which is like a little bit annoying but.
- 20:04I'm kind of, sort of used to it. And if the gym is not like super
- 20:07big physically, then it's not like that hard to just like do a
- 20:10quick loop around. Yeah, but I'm never going to pay
- 20:14$270 for a gym. Are you kidding me?
- 20:17I yeah, I just don't have that kind of money.
- 20:19Even if I have that kind of money I felt like I would spend,
- 20:24I would spend that money. I I will pay like $50.00 a month
- 20:28for a gym. I'll take the other $200.00 and
- 20:30it's better. Not something else, but not in
- 20:32the gym. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:35What impressed me the most is when people respect the put
- 20:39their weights back. It's it's a public place and you
- 20:41know you are all sure the equipment.
- 20:44You would think someone who like can lift a lot of weights is
- 20:47impressive at the gym. To me that's like that's great
- 20:51for you. But if I was, if I ever get to
- 20:54be like a personal trainer, I would want to tell all my
- 20:57clients. Don't compare yourself at the
- 21:00gym to how heavy a weight or how much weights that other people
- 21:07are lifting, or how many reps they're doing or what type of
- 21:10exercise they're doing. But everyone's fitness goals and
- 21:14what they're trying to do at the gym is different.
- 21:17Some people go to the gym to workout for endurance reasons,
- 21:20so they go like higher reps or like they do more like the
- 21:22aerobic machines, right? Some people are trying to live
- 21:25like the heaviest way possible. Maybe someones doing like a
- 21:28fitness competition and training for that.
- 21:29Someone that's training for like a marathon.
- 21:31Someone else is just there for general fitness.
- 21:33They're not trying to go for crazy heavyweights.
- 21:35So you know, it's sometimes not great to be in the gym and you
- 21:40know, you've got like these super big, muscular guys that
- 21:44look like, you know, they've been lifting forever.
- 21:46Sometimes it could feel kind of intimidating.
- 21:50I imagine for someone who's like newer to working out with
- 21:54weight, someone who is newer to like going to the gym, that's
- 21:58the best advice I can give. For a newbie though, it's
- 22:00everybody starts from like everybody starts from kind of
- 22:04like nothing. I just everyone's got like their
- 22:06first time at the gym. And yeah, like don't be, don't
- 22:11compare yourself to other people that are like lifting however
- 22:14many weights they're lifting or doing some crazy looking
- 22:17exercise or you know like they just look like they know what
- 22:21they're doing. You'd be surprised how this is
- 22:26partially in my head and just this partially shady, but you'd
- 22:29be surprised how often I see someone that they look like
- 22:32they've got a decent physique. And at a glance on paper you
- 22:36would think they look like the type of person that knows what
- 22:40they're doing at the gym. And then I'll see them doing the
- 22:42exercise. And I'm thinking, I don't think
- 22:46they're supposed to do that exercise like that.
- 22:48But I don't say anything because hey, maybe they are a
- 22:50professional fitness trainer and that is a legit exercise.
- 22:56So, like, I'm not, I'm not a professional trainer at all.
- 23:00So like, I don't ever know better.
- 23:03But there is a shady part of my head that's like, I don't think
- 23:06you're supposed to swing your weights like that and use that
- 23:09much momentum to get the weights up.
- 23:13But yeah, I mean, I I, I keep my thoughts on my shelf.
- 23:16I am a shady bitch in my head. At least you know I'm not going
- 23:19to go to a stranger and be like, Are you sure you know what
- 23:22you're doing? That'd be hilarious.
- 23:23But I'm not gonna say that. Yeah, you go to the gym enough
- 23:26times you're gonna hurt yourself.
- 23:28And for me, I have this thing where if I take like 2 days off
- 23:32at the gym or three days off, I feel like I'm not doing
- 23:35anything. But when I take days off at the
- 23:37gym, I'm just like in the house. And that feels like, weird.
- 23:40When you go to the gym regularly and you get injured and you have
- 23:43to not go for a while, that feels weird.
- 23:45When I travel, though, that's different.
- 23:47I'm traveling for a reason. I'm going to something.
- 23:50I visit a family or like I'm going to an event, So I'm doing
- 23:53something, at least I'm like, out and about.
- 23:55And when I travel, I don't go to the gym.
- 23:57Like, it's it's rare for me to be traveling and going to the
- 24:02gym because that's. I just don't.
- 24:05So when I travel, I just don't. But why?
- 24:06I'm at home? I it's so much of my routine
- 24:09when I'm at home that when I am injured I need to be sidelined
- 24:13for like a few days or like a week.
- 24:16It feels like I need to be back at the gym.
- 24:21So I did take a couple of days off.
- 24:22I went back today, just did some upper body stuff, didn't push
- 24:25super hard, made sure I wasn't stressing my legs and and it was
- 24:30fine. So it was fine.
- 24:31And yeah, I need this leg to heal pretty fast so I'm a bit
- 24:35icing it. So apparently if you pull muscle
- 24:39you're supposed to rest. They call it the rice method.
- 24:44Rest, ice, compress, elevate. It's hard to elevate my leg like
- 24:50that so I I'm not doing that. I don't have anything to like
- 24:54compress with so I don't I'm so lazy, but I am resting my leg
- 24:58and I I am icing it. Thank God I have the ice machine
- 25:02so I can ice my leg or it'd just be like packs of vegetables.
- 25:05But yeah, I'm just going to enjoy not having to go to the
- 25:10gym so much. I'm just not going to beat
- 25:12myself up about it. Today was actually a good day at
- 25:14the gym, just doing upper body stuff.
- 25:17But OK, there are a couple of people at the gym that I don't
- 25:21like because again, I respect people that understand the gym
- 25:26is a public space to be shared by all.
- 25:29And you know, you need to have a certain level of, like
- 25:34courteousness and awareness of their surroundings.
- 25:37There are some people that just don't.
- 25:38There's like a couple people that are definitely, I'm a
- 25:41shitless at the gym, but I was like, OK, today is like the gym
- 25:46is pretty. I went a little early and then,
- 25:47you know, the gym is pretty light.
- 25:48And I had some Uber Eats credits that is going to expire at the
- 25:53end of the month. So after gym I was like, OK, I'm
- 25:57going to get some. I went to get Boba, so I drove
- 26:00to the Boba place. I picked up the Boba and drove
- 26:03home. And we're going to get into it.
- 26:06We're going to get into my living situation because I'm
- 26:10going to vent for a bit. So I live in a condo, it's an
- 26:13apartment and there's a a parking garage at the at the
- 26:18ground level and everyone has like their own spot, right?
- 26:22And one of the things that is annoying for me is a pet peeve.
- 26:27I think most people wouldn't care that much is when I when I
- 26:30came home today after I got the from the gym, the car next to
- 26:34me, and I don't even know who's, you don't know who that person
- 26:37is. They had parked very close to
- 26:40the line, like in their parking spot, which made it difficult
- 26:44for me to park the way I usually park.
- 26:46So I usually back into my spot and I had to pull forward
- 26:49because if I backed in and they were parked that close, I
- 26:51couldn't open my door to get out the car, so I had to like pull
- 26:54in. This sounds like nothing to most
- 26:55people, right? It's for me, it's annoying.
- 26:59So it's like the can normal people understand that this is
- 27:07annoying? I think I think most people
- 27:09would be like, dude, just park your car and like just whatever
- 27:12and just get over it. But it was annoying for me
- 27:14because they they do it once in a while and I know they don't
- 27:17intend to do it. But I feel like if you can't
- 27:20park your car, get a smaller car.
- 27:23Now sometimes you have these like big giant SU VS that can't
- 27:25stay in their own lane on the road.
- 27:27And I'm always thinking if you can't drive a big SUV, don't
- 27:31drive a big SUV. If you can't drive such a big
- 27:33car, got a smaller car. But like this car or like
- 27:36whoever parks in that spot, like once in a while they park like
- 27:41close to the line on my side. That makes it difficult for me.
- 27:45And OK, this is like a super, like, this is not what I
- 27:49recommend. It's not the most mature thing
- 27:51to do, but and I'll say I did it, I parked just as close to
- 27:56the line within my spot that they are to the same line in
- 28:00their spot. Just to basically say, you know
- 28:04what? If you're going to make it
- 28:05difficult for me to park in my spot, I want to make it
- 28:07difficult for you to park in your spot.
- 28:09And we're equally as close to the line and we're both on our
- 28:12own sides to the line. So we're not doing anything
- 28:14wrong, are we? But yeah, next time you have to
- 28:16pull your car and park it back in.
- 28:19I hope you realize how difficult it is to park in your spot when
- 28:23I'm that close to the line as you are to that side of the line
- 28:27that you are today. So that's like, that's like the
- 28:33part of me that's like, I want to get you back.
- 28:35So annoying. So I don't know.
- 28:37I have this thing. I have this pet peeve about like
- 28:40people not being very courteous in in public spaces, like or
- 28:49like people, they're not aware of their surroundings.
- 28:52There was this completely different, It was like months
- 28:55ago. And I was like walking back home
- 28:59to the gym and I was like in front of my apartment building.
- 29:03And I noticed that there was this car that was waiting for
- 29:09another car in a parking spot to leave.
- 29:11A car was parked. They were going to leave.
- 29:12This truck had the signal turned on so that they were going to,
- 29:15like park in the spot after the car that was leaving was gone.
- 29:19And then I don't know where this SUV comes in and just like swoop
- 29:24and takes the spot, which is like, you know, maybe they
- 29:30didn't see that this truck was like waiting.
- 29:32This truck had this. I was walking on the sidewalk
- 29:34and I saw this truck had to turn on.
- 29:35So it's like the car, as it turns it on, they're probably
- 29:38waiting for a spot, right? They're doing something, this
- 29:41SUV, I don't know where swoops and takes the spot.
- 29:44And I was about to, like, enter my building, but like, I was
- 29:46outside and there was some workers or like landscapers or
- 29:49gardeners or they were just like chilling, taking a break, like
- 29:52outside of the building. And then this chick gets out of
- 29:56this SUV and looks around and sees that the guy is like the
- 30:01truck was waiting for that spot. And she's like, she's she's
- 30:04walking away from the car. She's like, oh, sorry, it just
- 30:07walks away that that kind of stuff is so annoying.
- 30:13It's like, it's one thing to like like this car that's parked
- 30:18beside me in the garage. They don't, I know they don't
- 30:21intend to park close to that line because like, why would
- 30:24they? It's, I mean, intention matters.
- 30:28They didn't tend to park close to the line.
- 30:29Maybe they were in a hurry. Or like, hey, not everyone is
- 30:33that particular about their parking, as I am, I'm sure,
- 30:36because I'm a little fastidious about it.
- 30:38But this chick just, like, swooped in, stole this guy's
- 30:41spot. And when even when she knew that
- 30:44she had stolen someone's spot, she's like, sorry.
- 30:46Like, that is like the fakest story in the world.
- 30:48Like, you don't mean it. You just walked away.
- 30:50It's like, if you're really sorry and I said this out loud,
- 30:53I remember, like not yelling, but like I said out loud as I
- 30:57was entering the building. But it's like all these
- 30:59landscape gardener people saw it and was like, what the fuck?
- 31:03Remember saying this? I said, well, if you were really
- 31:05sorry, you would move your car. It's people like that that is
- 31:09annoying to me because you are intentionally not caring that
- 31:13your actions are making someone else's day worse.
- 31:17It's like life is hard enough that we don't need to do that to
- 31:23each other, you know, we don't need to take other people's
- 31:25parking spots. Just 'cause you had a bad day
- 31:29that that does not give you any sort of a pass to make someone
- 31:33else's day worse because you're in a bad mood.
- 31:36If you're in a bad way, that's on you.
- 31:38Like, don't be like making someone else's day worse for it.
- 31:43I say this after I told you I parked super close line, but
- 31:45other cars parked close to the line.
- 31:47And I'm not saying that was the most mature thing to do, but my
- 31:53two points completely cancelled each other with dinner today.
- 31:56I don't know. Yeah, I don't like my neighbor
- 31:59who parks their car close to the line, but it made me difficult
- 32:01for me. And also don't like this shake
- 32:03that still this trucks parking spot.
- 32:06I don't know where I'm really going with this, but yeah, like
- 32:08stuff like that. It's annoying when like people
- 32:10don't have this like awareness that their actions have a effect
- 32:17on other people. Like if you if you intentionally
- 32:20go to steal someone's spot, I mean come on like you're you're
- 32:23you're just making someone else's day worse, honestly.
- 32:25And like, you don't need to make someone else's day worse.
- 32:28Maybe I should go move my car or parking less close.
- 32:30I just want this car beside me to understand that, hey, if you
- 32:35park close to your if you park close to the line that separates
- 32:39our two parking spots, it makes it difficult for the other
- 32:42person to park there. Oh my God.
- 32:45Anyways, let's end this podcast on a more positive note.
- 32:50So this coming weekend I'm actually going to Austin is one
- 32:54of my good friend's birthday. It says 40th birthday, actually,
- 32:58and that's why he's having like a little bit of a thing.
- 33:02They live in Austin, so I'm going to take a short trip to
- 33:06Austin this weekend for that. And we used to be a roommate in
- 33:11San Francisco, so we have a bunch of San Francisco friends
- 33:15when we were all living there. And some of those San Francisco
- 33:17friends, some of whom I haven't seen in a while, I think some of
- 33:22them now I've seen even since before the pandemic, since the,
- 33:26yeah, for like a few years now. They're going as well.
- 33:29So yeah, that'll be a fun little weekend.
- 33:32And hopefully when I get back from the airport on Sunday, my
- 33:36neighbor would not be parked so close to the line in our parking
- 33:39garage. Let's just edit there.
- 33:42Bye, guys. I'll see you next week.
