Speaker 4: But that Southern wadge is gonna bring ice with it then,
• 1:52
Speaker 4: so it ain't. It ain't gonna be pretty our big

• 2:06
Speaker 4: going to be joining us Charleston City councilman. And you
• 2:08
Speaker 4: heard on Daniel's newscaster. There's a lot of big news
• 2:11
Speaker 4: coming out of Charleston here asqual particularly in the Caaanas
• 2:13
Speaker 4: City area. Emmittt serves as at large council members, so
• 2:16
Speaker 4: he's going to join us a little bit later on
• 2:17
Speaker 4: in the show. And uh so we'll find out also
• 2:20
Speaker 4: if he's going to be running for reelection for a
• 2:22
Speaker 4: city council seat, So that's coming up a little bit
• 2:23
Speaker 4: later on. As always, your calls and Texter welcome, big Ley,

Speaker 4: heard the lovely golden tones of one Roberts q reel.
• 2:39
Speaker 2: Yes, Robert's the middle name.
• 2:40
Speaker 6: Okay, I know, and I'm not gonna I'm not going
• 2:43
Speaker 6: to share what the first name is because the only
• 2:46
Speaker 6: people who addressed me by my first name want money.
• 2:50
  Speaker 5: So okay.
• 2:51
Speaker 6: It's actually a really good barometer for the screening phone calls.
• 2:54
Speaker 4: If somebody calls and says, yes, I want to speak
• 2:56
Speaker 4: to Ferdinand, which by the way, is your real name, maybe.
• 2:58
Speaker 2: We speak to Cornelius. I know you may not, he's
• 3:00
  Speaker 2: not here.
• 3:01
Speaker 4: I'm just making that up. I make it up everything.
• 3:03
Speaker 4: He has a different first name every time I'm here.
• 3:05
Speaker 4: So Robrial from a sister station ninety six to one
• 3:08
Speaker 4: KWS is here and to bring a little you know,
• 3:12
Speaker 4: common sense in the program, Jason Quintrell, Co Minnion Mission
• 3:15
Speaker 4: is here as well. Morning Jason, how are you doing?
• 3:16
  Speaker 5: I'm doing fine?
• 3:17
  Speaker 2: How are you?
• 3:18
  Speaker 5: I'm doing great?
• 3:18
Speaker 4: Of course, you guys are here for the third annual
• 3:21
Speaker 4: WVRC Media Charleston Sock Drop kicked it off at seven
• 3:25
Speaker 4: a m. This morning, going till six o'clock tonight panhandle
• 3:28
Speaker 4: cleaning and restoration, making it possible appreciate those folks.
• 3:31
Speaker 5: Rob, how's it gone so far?
• 3:33
Speaker 6: We are flirting with eight hundred pairs so far, we're
• 3:36
Speaker 6: off to a great start. I want to give a
• 3:39
Speaker 6: specific shout out to Green Valley Church of God. She
• 3:42
Speaker 6: showed up with three hundred pairs just on her own
• 3:45
Speaker 6: in the middy, eight hundred pairs. Apparently they heard what
• 3:49
Speaker 6: we had planned and they started collecting as a congregation
• 3:53
Speaker 6: in a community and friends and such, and showed up
• 3:56
Speaker 6: with three hundred pair this morning.
• 3:57
Speaker 2: So we're off to a great start.
• 4:00
Speaker 6: But as you know, in West Virginia, it's going to
• 4:01
Speaker 6: be a long winter, so it's going to be a
• 4:03
Speaker 6: long day for us until six pm. Whether it's a
• 4:06
  Speaker 6: pair or a package, a bag, a box, a bin
• 4:09
Speaker 6: full of socks, whatever your budget and your heart will allow.
• 4:14
Speaker 6: You know, maybe you team up at work and you
• 4:16
Speaker 6: take a collection and you can bring us cash or
• 4:18
Speaker 6: check donation for union mission. Absolutely, that would work great.
• 4:21
Speaker 6: I know you all got great bulk buying power with that.
• 4:24
Speaker 6: If you know, if you want to swing through the
• 4:25
Speaker 6: store and buy a bunch with that collection, that works too.
• 4:30
Speaker 6: But come see us eleven eleven Virginia Street East before
• 4:33
Speaker 6: six o'clock to see.
• 4:34
Speaker 4: And of course everybody's going to be out and about buying,
• 4:36
Speaker 4: as Rob calls it to Jason, their French toast kits,
• 4:39
Speaker 4: you know, the eggs, the milk and the bread.
• 4:41
  Speaker 7: Yes.
• 4:42
Speaker 4: Actually I was getting text to the show, to the
• 4:44
Speaker 4: midday show yesterday. There was one person that text the
• 4:46
Speaker 4: show and he said, just want to let you know
• 4:48
Speaker 4: my girlfriend works at Walmart. And I don't know what
• 4:50
Speaker 4: city they were calling front or texting from, but yeah,
• 4:53
Speaker 4: it was a madhouse there yesterday.
• 4:55
Speaker 5: And it's only going to and I only.
• 4:56
Speaker 4: Say that to say chances are preparing for snow again
• 5:00
Speaker 4: this weekend. People are going to be out and about
• 5:02
Speaker 4: any way. So if you get done with your fist
• 5:05
Speaker 4: fights over you know, the forty eight loaves of bread
• 5:07
Speaker 4: that you think that you needed your local Kroger store,
• 5:09
Speaker 4: swing on odor over to the Big Lots or the
• 5:11
Speaker 4: Dollar Tree or the Dollar Store, whatever, whatever your favorite
• 5:14
Speaker 4: story is, to pick up some socks.
• 5:15
Speaker 8: Absolutely, we got many guys that are shelter that could
• 5:18
Speaker 8: use them. We will share them all over with folks
• 5:22
Speaker 8: and other shelters. And it's a great opportunity to help
• 5:27
Speaker 8: your folks in need.
• 5:28
Speaker 4: And that's one of the things I wanted because people,
• 5:30
Speaker 4: you know, we've given us a lot of coverage on
• 5:32
Speaker 4: our network show in the afternoon as well, and people
• 5:34
Speaker 4: have said, well, you know that's a that's a Charleston thing,
• 5:37
Speaker 4: and that's all well and good, But you guys work
• 5:40
Speaker 4: with a lot that we saw it during the flood recovery.
• 5:43
Speaker 5: I mean, we don't stop at borders, absolutely not.
• 5:46
Speaker 8: We just like our Thanksgiving and Christmas, we we handled
• 5:50
Speaker 8: fifteen different counties around us with food. Anywhere from seventy
• 5:53
Speaker 8: to eighty thousand pounds of food goes out of our warehouse.
• 5:56
  Speaker 8: A month, and no, it's it's we do a lot
• 5:59
Speaker 8: in Kanau Valley, but we also do a lot in
• 6:00
  Speaker 8: West Virginia.
• 6:01
  Speaker 2: Union Mission.
• 6:02
  Speaker 6: It's it's kind of a two layer organization. They're doing
• 6:04
Speaker 6: all of those local things and then also working as
• 6:08
Speaker 6: a clearing house when you think of when you think
• 6:11
Speaker 6: of organizations like the United Way that connect people with
• 6:14
Speaker 6: all sorts of different services. That's a lot of what
• 6:17
Speaker 6: Union is Mission. Union Mission is doing region wide and statewide.
• 6:21
Speaker 6: So even if you're in Bluefield or Bridgeports, you are
• 6:26
Speaker 6: still going to be helping folks in your area when
• 6:28
Speaker 6: you help with Union Mission and help with.
• 6:30
  Speaker 2: Drop your socks.
• 6:31
Speaker 4: To and Jason talk about the need for the socks,
• 6:34
Speaker 4: and Rob has talked about it, but let's talk about
• 6:37
  Speaker 4: why socks.
• 6:38
Speaker 8: Well, I mean just a just a simple need. We
• 6:41
Speaker 8: don't really think about it much. We get up in
• 6:43
Speaker 8: the morning, we jump in the shower, we get out,
• 6:45
Speaker 8: and we put socks on and get dressed and come
• 6:47
  Speaker 8: to work.
• 6:48
Speaker 5: But and sometimes pants well that's optional.
• 6:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, but yeah, check your local listings.
• 6:52
Speaker 8: Yes, but yeah, I mean, we don't think much about it,
• 6:55
Speaker 8: but there are people out there that they are in
• 6:57
Speaker 8: genuine need for socks. They're in genuine need for just
• 7:02
Speaker 8: basic items in life, and that's definitely a big part
• 7:05
Speaker 8: of it, and we want to be a part of that.
• 7:07
Speaker 8: And we take our hats off salute you guys for
• 7:10
Speaker 8: having a burden for people that are in need for
• 7:13
  Speaker 8: those things.
• 7:13
Speaker 5: So shout out to you guys.
• 7:15
Speaker 8: Thank you so much for doing this, and it gives
• 7:17
Speaker 8: us an opportunity to help folks in need.
• 7:19
Speaker 4: And we had rob before we even started this thing
• 7:22
Speaker 4: at seven o'clock. We had people throughout the week stopping by, Yes,
• 7:25
Speaker 4: our office is here and saying, you know, I can't
• 7:27
Speaker 4: make it on Thursday. They've reached out to us on
• 7:30
Speaker 4: social media saying, hey, I'm going to can I drop
• 7:32
Speaker 4: When we first started talking about this a month ago,
• 7:35
Speaker 4: immediately people said, well, I don't know if I'm to
• 7:37
Speaker 4: be able to make it that day, or maybe they
• 7:38
Speaker 4: didn't know what the weather was going to be and
• 7:40
Speaker 4: they just dropped off bags of socks.
• 7:43
Speaker 6: I think our early morning steak was one hundred and
• 7:45
Speaker 6: fifty when we got rolled in this morning.
• 7:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, when we opened to.
• 7:49
Speaker 6: The parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Street East closest Cross Street,
• 7:52
Speaker 6: Lee on Sullivan, we had one hundred and fifty to
• 7:56
Speaker 6: get going this morning. So folks were on board from
• 8:00
Speaker 6: the very very beginning, and so it's not unbearably cold
• 8:05
Speaker 6: this morning, but that wind is really cutting through you,
• 8:07
Speaker 6: and it's it's a reminder for me that when my
• 8:10
Speaker 6: feet get cold, other parts of my body, particularly my brain,
• 8:13
Speaker 6: starts shutting down. I lose fifty IQ points if my
• 8:16
Speaker 6: feet are cold, and I can't afford.
• 8:18
Speaker 5: To lose people in radio can't afford to lose that.
• 8:20
Speaker 6: You know, at this point, I'm a talking monkey, so
• 8:24
Speaker 6: and I'm somebody who can I can come in here
• 8:26
Speaker 6: to the studio at a space heater right by my desk,
• 8:28
Speaker 6: I can heat myself back up. I live a couple
• 8:30
Speaker 6: of blocks away. I can go home, change clothes, put
• 8:32
Speaker 6: on more clothes. There are so many folks who don't
• 8:35
Speaker 6: have that wherewithal it's not it is but not only
• 8:39
Speaker 6: the displaced persons that you see around town. It is
• 8:42
Speaker 6: also maybe that family who left a domestic violent situation
• 8:46
Speaker 6: in the middle of the night with literally nothing but
• 8:48
  Speaker 6: the clothes.
• 8:48
  Speaker 2: On their back.
• 8:49
Speaker 6: Maybe it's somebody who is living out of his or
• 8:51
Speaker 6: her vehicle that is technically a displaced person, but not
• 8:54
Speaker 6: somebody you're seeing on the street. Maybe it's somebody who's CouchSurfing.
• 8:58
Speaker 6: There are so many folks. I think the number in
• 9:01
Speaker 6: West Virginia is one out of three folks are right
• 9:05
Speaker 6: around the poverty line or worse, and about half of
• 9:08
Speaker 6: those are living in deep poverty. So it is is
• 9:11
Speaker 6: such a little thing we can be doing to make
• 9:15
Speaker 6: the lives better, one tiny need we can fulfill to
• 9:18
Speaker 6: maybe help that person get the next step.
• 9:20
Speaker 8: And please don't think, well, you've got eight hundred pair,
• 9:23
Speaker 8: you're doing great, you don't need me.
• 9:25
  Speaker 5: That's not true.
• 9:26
  Speaker 9: Me.
• 9:27
Speaker 5: Certainly, we're gonna be doing this till six o'clock this evening.
• 9:30
Speaker 5: Please come by. Eight hundreds not enough, we can use
• 9:33
  Speaker 5: two thousand.
• 9:33
Speaker 4: Right, how many, roughly, Rob, do you remember how many
• 9:36
Speaker 4: we did last year? I'm just a rough estimate.
• 9:38
Speaker 6: I remember we were kind of keeping track in terms
• 9:40
Speaker 6: of like fifty five gallon barrels the first year, and
• 9:43
Speaker 6: we did almost four of those. And then last year
• 9:47
Speaker 6: you've got kind of that big watermelon box in the
• 9:49
Speaker 6: back of the truck that kind of fills up the truck.
• 9:51
Speaker 6: We filled the truck what two or three times last year.
• 9:54
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm thinking it was twenty two hundred, twenty one
• 9:56
Speaker 5: twenty something like that, and we're already off to a
• 9:58
  Speaker 5: good start.
• 9:59
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm saying my early morning goal is to have
• 10:03
Speaker 6: have you have to run the truck back before lunch
• 10:06
Speaker 6: to unload and fill it again.
• 10:08
Speaker 2: So I love your goals.
• 10:11
Speaker 6: I would love to do that before before the barbecue,
• 10:13
Speaker 6: before Rolling Smoke shows.
• 10:14
Speaker 4: Up, and talk about that here in a couple of
• 10:16
Speaker 4: moments to Dave Alan Show on five. Any Line brought
• 10:17
Speaker 4: to you apart by Live Healthy West Virginia presented by
• 10:20
Speaker 4: WVU Medisine, a podcast We're roading healthier lifestyles and to
• 10:23
Speaker 4: beyond the stage. Check have of latest episodes wv metronews
• 10:25
Speaker 4: dot com under the podcast mean You. And I want
• 10:27
Speaker 4: to give a big shout out to the folks at
• 10:29
Speaker 4: Rolling Smoke Barbecue because they follow our stations on social media.
• 10:33
Speaker 4: They heard us talking about on all of our stations,
• 10:36
Speaker 4: and the folks that Rolling Smoke said, we want to
• 10:38
Speaker 4: help out. We want to provide you guys with lunch
• 10:41
Speaker 4: because you guys are out there you and again, this
• 10:43
Speaker 4: is something all of our stations are involved in. This
• 10:46
Speaker 4: is Rob's baby, but all of our stations jumped in
• 10:48
Speaker 4: on this. We'll have the sales weasels out there. We'll
• 10:51
Speaker 4: have the office staff, we'll have anybody that we can
• 10:54
  Speaker 4: get sales. Yeah, we'll get that's a loving term. We'll
• 10:57
Speaker 4: get everybody out there from the news department. We'll be
• 11:00
Speaker 4: out there as well, all of us out there. And
• 11:01
Speaker 4: the folks at Rolling Smoke reached out and they said,
• 11:03
Speaker 4: we want to provide you lunch. Let me just tell
• 11:05
Speaker 4: you a little something about Rolling Smoke voted by Southern
• 11:08
Speaker 4: Living West Virginia as the best barbecue. Uh. They are
• 11:11
Speaker 4: participating in Restaurant Week. There'll be a first time participant
• 11:16
  Speaker 4: in that.
• 11:16
  Speaker 2: Of course.
• 11:16
Speaker 4: Restaurant Week runs in Charleston next week. Three courses for
• 11:20
  Speaker 4: twenty five bucks.
• 11:23
Speaker 5: And uh, and I'm.
• 11:23
Speaker 4: Always rob you're a world traveler. Uh. Is it pronounced
• 11:28
Speaker 4: wag you or wagu wag you wag you wag you
• 11:31
  Speaker 4: slow smoke briskets.
• 11:33
Speaker 6: That's that's the Japanese beef, the high falut and Jackpannese.
• 11:37
Speaker 4: Yes, with the pork butt barbecue. And of course you
• 11:40
Speaker 4: can dine in there. You can pick up they do
• 11:42
Speaker 4: catering as well. Three zero four nine six five zero
• 11:45
Speaker 4: eight zero eight three zero four nine six five zero
• 11:48
Speaker 4: eight zero eight. So I want to give a big
• 11:49
Speaker 4: shout out to them as well.
• 11:50
Speaker 6: You put you put a plate of that wag you
• 11:52
Speaker 6: brisket on top of your head, your tongue, beat your
• 11:54
Speaker 6: brains out trying to get to it.
• 11:56
Speaker 5: All right, that's good stuff. That's good stuff. It is
• 11:58
  Speaker 5: very good stuff.
• 11:58
Speaker 4: We appreciate for reaching out because again they we didn't ask.
• 12:03
Speaker 4: They contacted us and they said, hey, we want to
• 12:05
Speaker 4: provide lunch for your crew, and so we said, we'll
• 12:07
  Speaker 4: take it.
• 12:07
Speaker 6: Well, and it's in each according to our gifts. Sort
• 12:10
Speaker 6: of a situation. We're not gonna we WVRC media. We
• 12:14
Speaker 6: don't try to sort and distribute the socks. That's why
• 12:16
Speaker 6: we bring in Union mission. You are the experts at this.
• 12:19
Speaker 6: We are the experts at motivating, at using the big
• 12:23
Speaker 6: mouths and big microphones, rolling smoke. They're not going to
• 12:26
Speaker 6: collect socks, they're not going to market it. They're the
• 12:28
Speaker 6: experts at food. How do we how do we get
• 12:30
Speaker 6: involved in this? We make food to keep the people
• 12:32
Speaker 6: fed so that they can do all the work on
• 12:34
  Speaker 6: the parking lot.
• 12:35
  Speaker 2: Pretty cool.
• 12:37
Speaker 6: It's amazing to me and yet never surprising the way
• 12:41
Speaker 6: West Virginians come through for West Virginians.
• 12:43
Speaker 2: Each according to our gifts.
• 12:45
Speaker 5: Always take care of each other.
• 12:46
Speaker 4: Indeed, we had a text here is there a venmo
• 12:49
Speaker 4: for sock money for those not in Charleston.
• 12:51
Speaker 8: No, but you can go to we feed people dot
• 12:53
Speaker 8: com and you can click the donate now button and
• 12:56
Speaker 8: you can mark that four socks and we will sure
• 12:59
Speaker 8: to go buy socks for you.
• 13:01
Speaker 4: We feed people dot Com. And Rob has brought this
• 13:03
Speaker 4: up ever since we've been talking about Jason. We appreciate
• 13:06
Speaker 4: the donations of socks and we don't care as long

• 13:49
Speaker 4: for getting involved with this problem.
• 13:51
Speaker 6: They're gonna come in handy, I think for somebody with
• 13:52
Speaker 6: this winter storm that's gonna come through, because eventually it's
• 13:55
Speaker 6: all gonna melt. Yeah, And you know, I think about
• 13:59
Speaker 6: the we're only good be in for a couple of days.
• 14:01

• 14:05
Speaker 6: be trapped. You don't need forty eight loaves of bread.
• 14:08
Speaker 6: But uh, you know, some folks are gonna they're gonna
• 14:12
Speaker 6: lose power, They're gonna have pipes freeze, things are gonna bust,
• 14:16
Speaker 6: and Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration can come in and help
• 14:18

• 18:28
  Speaker 4: It's good stuff, man, I mean I've had they, They've
• 18:31
Speaker 4: catered a couple of events here for us before. And
• 18:34
Speaker 4: you don't hear me say this a lot when it
• 18:38
Speaker 4: comes to barbecue or any restaurant.
• 18:40
Speaker 5: Their sides are as good as the meats.
• 18:42
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and because to me quality barbecue restaurants, I
• 18:46
Speaker 4: judge you on the sides as well. The meats are
• 18:48
Speaker 4: always good, and that's what I like, but I like
• 18:49
Speaker 4: the side and their side dishes are incredible.
• 18:51
Speaker 10: Well, as I was a vegetarian for a while, and
• 18:54
Speaker 10: so you know, I got this. The barbecue restaurants were
• 18:57
Speaker 10: only sides for me for a long time.
• 18:58
Speaker 2: So I have a good appreciation too.
• 19:00
Speaker 4: So you were a vegetarian for a while, yeah, well
• 19:02
Speaker 4: it's pescatarian, so you know, okay, what's a pest fish
• 19:06
  Speaker 4: and nothing?
• 19:07
  Speaker 2: No other meat?
• 19:07
Speaker 4: Okay, because there's various and this is not why there's
• 19:11
Speaker 4: various things. I mean you have people that are you know,
• 19:14
Speaker 4: don't use animal products at all, and no eggs, no cheese, no, no, nothing,
• 19:19
  Speaker 4: they're a communist.
• 19:20
  Speaker 2: I'm kidding.
• 19:21
  Speaker 1: Uh.
• 19:21
Speaker 4: And then there's those that just don't eat red meat,
• 19:24
Speaker 4: and this shows that don't eat meat, meat the vegetables.
• 19:26
Speaker 2: So you were pescatarian, I was, I was.
• 19:28
Speaker 10: Yeah, but at the church it's next door to that
• 19:30
Speaker 10: straight yeah, yeah, pescatarian Presbyteria.
• 19:33
  Speaker 11: Yeah.
• 19:33
Speaker 4: Okay, I got it, I got it, I got it.
• 19:35
Speaker 4: So all right, so you're running for reelection? Are you
• 19:37
Speaker 4: running for relation? I should ask? I am, and some
• 19:40
  Speaker 4: anno make.
• 19:41
  Speaker 5: The official statement.
• 19:43
Speaker 2: Now, guys upstairs, hit record, Emmitt Pepper.
• 19:48
Speaker 10: I'm running for the at large city councils, one of
• 19:51
Speaker 10: six at large city council seats.
• 19:53
Speaker 5: All right, So and how many terms have you, sir?
• 19:55
Speaker 2: One? Uh? One and change? Okay, so this will be
• 19:58
Speaker 2: your second the full term. I get second, full, third,
• 20:01
Speaker 2: you know, third term. You know I came in under
• 20:03
Speaker 2: you know, sad circumstances. I was an appointed after John Kennedy, Billy.
• 20:06
Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, yeah, and what a great what a great
• 20:08
Speaker 4: gentleman he was absolutely and was a great loss for
• 20:10
Speaker 4: the Charleston area. And you're in an at large seat, so
• 20:13
Speaker 4: that means you get to hear from everybody, right.
• 20:14
  Speaker 2: That's right.
• 20:15
Speaker 4: And I mean, to be fair, all members of city
• 20:18
Speaker 4: councils still here from everybody, no matter what what you
• 20:21
Speaker 4: can contact to, you know, whether it's your reward or not.
• 20:24
Speaker 2: Right, that's that. I think that that definitely happens. Yeah, yeah,
• 20:27
  Speaker 2: for sure.
• 20:27
Speaker 10: But I think the at large, you know, there's sometimes
• 20:29
Speaker 10: we get copied on everything, okay, Yeah, So I mean
• 20:32
Speaker 10: this is an opportunity for us, you know, to keep
• 20:34
Speaker 10: the momentum going that we've that we've had and that
• 20:36
Speaker 10: I've been working on for the last few seventh.
• 20:38
Speaker 4: I'm going to talk about that momentum, yeah, in the
• 20:40
Speaker 4: city of Charleston right now, because over the last couple
• 20:42
Speaker 4: of years, I mean, there have been a lot of
• 20:44
Speaker 4: great things have come. There's been business openings. The restaurants
• 20:48
Speaker 4: that have come here are you know, unbelievable, and of
• 20:49
Speaker 4: course the return of Regatta and things of that nature.
• 20:52
Speaker 4: And there's always something going on in Charleston, especially as
• 20:56
Speaker 4: we get to the warm weather months. I mean, there's
• 20:58
Speaker 4: always a fun at the Dome, or there's always something
• 21:02
Speaker 4: going on in the West End, or there's something going on,
• 21:04
Speaker 4: and there's always something going on in Charleston.
• 21:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And I think that that is.
• 21:10
Speaker 10: I mean, so we you know, the goal I think
• 21:12
Speaker 10: is to make this a place where you know, the
• 21:13
Speaker 10: sit in the population which our state, our city has
• 21:16
Speaker 10: been losing population for our entire lifetimes, you know, and
• 21:19
Speaker 10: so we really need to reverse that trend. My friend
• 21:22
Speaker 10: Jennifer Farre also at Large, you know, she says we
• 21:24
Speaker 10: want to have add ten thousand and twenty thousand people.
• 21:27
Speaker 10: I'd be happy with flat you know stuff, just not
• 21:29
Speaker 10: to lose that's right. The way that we're going to
• 21:32
Speaker 10: do that is, you know, a few thinks that one
• 21:34
Speaker 10: is going to be jobs. People live in a place
• 21:35
Speaker 10: because they have a job. People live in a place
• 21:37
Speaker 10: because they have connections, family, friends, that kind of thing,
• 21:41
Speaker 10: and they live in a place because they like it.
• 21:43
Speaker 10: And so you know, so having you know, we can't
• 21:46
Speaker 10: mean we have to. We can do everything we can
• 21:48
Speaker 10: to help make it so that job creators folks can
• 21:51
Speaker 10: can make it work here.
• 21:53
  Speaker 2: But we can't.
• 21:53
Speaker 10: You know, we can't create the jobs ourselves through government,
• 21:56
Speaker 10: but we can make it easier for folks to survive.
• 21:59
Speaker 10: We can make it so that there are more of
• 22:01
Speaker 10: those third spaces and make which which also plays into
• 22:04
Speaker 10: you know, both having the connections, having uh, friends and
• 22:07
Speaker 10: family and also making it a place you want to live.
• 22:10
Speaker 5: What was it? Now, are you a native Charlestonian?
• 22:13
Speaker 2: I yes, I was born and raised here.
• 22:15
Speaker 5: Okay, all right? But what made you stay? Because here's
• 22:17
Speaker 5: the here's the problem.
• 22:18
Speaker 4: And when we talk about this a lot with various guests,
• 22:21
Speaker 4: we have a real problem in West Virginia with getting
• 22:23
Speaker 4: people to want to stay here, especially people that go
• 22:28
Speaker 4: away to college, which you did, you know, of course,
• 22:31
Speaker 4: but want to come back here. What was it about
• 22:33
Speaker 4: Charleston that made Emmitt Pepper and family decide we want
• 22:38
  Speaker 4: to be here.
• 22:38
  Speaker 7: Yeah?
• 22:39
Speaker 10: Well, I mean I moved away actually, so I'm you know,
• 22:40
Speaker 10: one of the people. I moved away for quite some time.
• 22:42
Speaker 10: I lived in the Northeast for about nine years, and
• 22:47
Speaker 10: in between undergrad and law school, I was in DC
• 22:49
  Speaker 10: for law school.
• 22:50
Speaker 2: So and then I moved back.
• 22:51
Speaker 10: I mean, and you know, frankly, I mean the things
• 22:53
Speaker 10: that move made me want to move back here were
• 22:56
Speaker 10: family and my still have family in the area and
• 22:58
Speaker 10: uh and I got a job here.
• 23:00
  Speaker 13: Uh.
• 23:00
Speaker 10: And so you know, those are the things that that
• 23:02
Speaker 10: that brought me back here. And I think that's what
• 23:04
Speaker 10: brings people to a place, is that they have a connection,
• 23:07
Speaker 10: and so you know, all the all the folks who
• 23:09
Speaker 10: have moved away want to make it easier for them
• 23:10
Speaker 10: to get back. But we also want to be attracting
• 23:13
  Speaker 10: people who don't necessarily have a connection to Here's a
• 23:15
Speaker 10: lot of some of my favorite West Virginias are the
• 23:17
Speaker 10: ones who have just moved here and they, uh, they
• 23:19
Speaker 10: like it. And you know, from what I've heard, the
• 23:22
Speaker 10: folks who have been visiting our city, uh, they just
• 23:24
Speaker 10: have a great time here and they enjoy it.
• 23:27
Speaker 2: But they just need to know that it's here.
• 23:28
Speaker 5: What can we do to uh?
• 23:30
Speaker 4: And and again we have we have great folks from
• 23:33
Speaker 4: like the CVB and and and Charleston Urban Works of course,
• 23:36
Speaker 4: with the with the Mayor's office and others and the
• 23:39
Speaker 4: County Commission. So many people work together to try to
• 23:42
Speaker 4: advertise uh, the city of Charleston, Kanawa County and and
• 23:46
Speaker 4: all the West Virginia to the rest of the world.
• 23:48
Speaker 5: What do we need to do more of?
• 23:49
Speaker 10: In your opinion, yeah, I mean I think it is
• 23:51
Speaker 10: just more of the same, you know, so we we
• 23:53
Speaker 10: have been well, not more of the same for the
• 23:55
Speaker 10: long term, but I do I do think there are
• 23:57
Speaker 10: some things that we that I have personally working on
• 23:59
Speaker 10: and this administration's been working on that. I think we
• 24:01
Speaker 10: need to do more of. We need to be doing
• 24:03
Speaker 10: more to kind of redevelop find you know, there's been
• 24:06
Speaker 10: a lot of dilapidated properties that we have been demolished,
• 24:09
Speaker 10: but now we're also working turning the corner and working
• 24:12
Speaker 10: to get new construction. We've tripled more than tripled the
• 24:15
Speaker 10: amount of new builds in the city just in the
• 24:18
Speaker 10: through an incidentive program that we initiated, and we're about
• 24:20
Speaker 10: to do a second round of that in the coming months.
• 24:24
Speaker 10: You know, we need to be doing more of those
• 24:26
Speaker 10: third spaces that I was talking about.
• 24:28
Speaker 2: You know, the the city.
• 24:30
Speaker 10: Center Sleck Plaza has truly transformed our downtown. We need
• 24:34
Speaker 10: to also be investing into having a lot more parks
• 24:38
Speaker 10: in our neighborhoods. I mean, that's one of the you know,
• 24:41
Speaker 10: policies that I think is really important is to that
• 24:43
Speaker 10: I was able to get through setting some goals for
• 24:46
Speaker 10: having parks within walking distance of people's homes. Having seventy
• 24:50
Speaker 10: five percent of our city live within a half while
• 24:52
Speaker 10: walk of a home of a park. That is something
• 24:56
Speaker 10: that helps people's way of life. It's not something that
• 24:58
Speaker 10: people are calling me up to get, but they it
• 25:01
Speaker 10: really makes their way of life better.
• 25:03
Speaker 4: Well, And if you're going to attract young people, which
• 25:05
Speaker 4: is what we want to do in West Virginia, we
• 25:07
Speaker 4: want to attract younger people, and we want to attract families,
• 25:10
Speaker 4: you know, we want to attract people that are going
• 25:12
Speaker 4: to come here on the odd chance that maybe their
• 25:14
Speaker 4: kids are going to want to stay here, and you're
• 25:16
Speaker 4: going to give their kids something to do. Because you
• 25:18
Speaker 4: talked about the jobs, and I agree with you on
• 25:21
Speaker 4: that one hundred percent. But people only work so many
• 25:23
Speaker 4: hours a day, you know. I mean people only work
• 25:25
Speaker 4: in theory seven or eight hours a day. I remember
• 25:28
Speaker 4: my first part time job too, but in theory. And
• 25:32
Speaker 4: maybe they get a day off, they get weekends off.
• 25:34
Speaker 4: So the job alone, I have always said, is not
• 25:37
Speaker 4: It may attract you here, but you're not always at work,
• 25:40
Speaker 4: you know. And the ability to work remotely, the ability
• 25:43
Speaker 4: to have parks, to have recreation. This younger generation, statistically saying,
• 25:48
Speaker 4: you know, it's statistically proven, are more about experiences. They
• 25:52
Speaker 4: love the outdoors. I'm a fan of the great indoors, okay,
• 25:56
Speaker 4: but they like the outdoors. They want to be able
• 25:58
Speaker 4: and we're not Charleston.
• 25:59
  Speaker 5: We're not far.
• 26:00
Speaker 4: I mean, you talk about the parks in the communities,
• 26:03
Speaker 4: we're not far from the New River Gorge. Thinks we're
• 26:06
Speaker 4: not far from some of these other places. Well, when
• 26:08
  Speaker 4: they're not working.
• 26:09
  Speaker 2: That's right.
• 26:09
Speaker 10: And you know, as somebody, I mean, I have young kids.
• 26:11
Speaker 10: I have a two year old and a seven year old,
• 26:13
Speaker 10: and during COVID, the seven year old, it was crucial
• 26:17
Speaker 10: for us to have We happen to live near a
• 26:18
Speaker 10: park a half block away from us, and we were
• 26:21
Speaker 10: able to just go to that. That was such a
• 26:23
Speaker 10: life sent for us during that time. And it makes
• 26:26
Speaker 10: just a big difference even past COVID, but certainly especially
• 26:30
Speaker 10: during that time. But having parks in your community makes
• 26:32
Speaker 10: a big difference for folks. And we have a great
• 26:35
Speaker 10: new park in our city, the Jones Woodlands Trails up
• 26:39
Speaker 10: in South Hills, and we have some existing parks that
• 26:41
Speaker 10: have been cato and a lot of others that are
• 26:44
Speaker 10: really great places to spend some time, to kind of
• 26:46
Speaker 10: get out and to you know, joy your community.
• 26:48
Speaker 2: Have a place to walk.
• 26:49
Speaker 10: That's nice, you see birds and all that kind of stuff,
• 26:52
Speaker 10: and it it really improves your way of life.
• 26:54
Speaker 4: Talking to Charleston City Councilman Emmitt Pepper twenty six minutes

• 27:04
Speaker 4: with the weather we're going to have the next couple days.
• 27:06
Speaker 4: Get ourselves over to go Mark Ballpark, get season tickets,
• 27:09
Speaker 4: merchandise and more at dirtybirds baseball dot com. They're also
• 27:11
Speaker 4: going to be doing some special thing for Valentine's Day.
• 27:14
Speaker 4: We give any more information on that as we get
• 27:16
Speaker 4: a little bit closer. I got to ask you something
• 27:19
Speaker 4: that's been a lot of buzz the last couple of
• 27:21
Speaker 4: weeks here, and that's the Town Center. We all remember,
• 27:24
Speaker 4: and I am not an native Charlestontonian, but I remember,
• 27:29
Speaker 4: you know, as a teenager and a young guy coming
• 27:31
Speaker 4: up from Logan County and the Town Center and all
• 27:34
Speaker 4: that went with it was everything. Everybody wants the Charlestontown
• 27:38
Speaker 4: Center to be what it was in nineteen eighty eight. Okay,
• 27:40
Speaker 4: it's not going to be that. It's never going to
• 27:43
Speaker 4: be that in the way we remember it. Nothing ever
• 27:45
Speaker 4: is as Paul Simon said, everything looks good in black
• 27:49
Speaker 4: and white. Okay, just keep that in mind, and there's
• 27:52
Speaker 4: not going to be one store. People have blown up
• 27:55
Speaker 4: our text lines and social media said, well, if you
• 27:57
Speaker 4: just put this in here, not gonna happen. Would you
• 28:00
Speaker 4: ideally like to see happened with the Charleston town Send man?
• 28:04
Speaker 10: You know, uh, you know the fact that there's a
• 28:06
Speaker 10: possibility that the city might end up in you know, ownership,
• 28:09
Speaker 10: and that's above my pay grade. I'm not, you know,
• 28:11
Speaker 10: involved in those conversations or anything. We have a large
• 28:13
Speaker 10: city council. But but you know, I think there has
• 28:17
Speaker 10: to be some amount of mixed use. I think, you know,
• 28:19
Speaker 10: some residential is something that've it's been working in places
• 28:22
Speaker 10: for decades now at this point. I mean, you know,
• 28:24
Speaker 10: it's not even a new thing to have residential with
• 28:27
Speaker 10: a mall, that kind of thing. I mean, I worked
• 28:29
Speaker 10: when I worked in the Northeast. I think it was
• 28:31
Speaker 10: a Trump Tower that was like I'm built on top
• 28:34
Speaker 10: of a mall in the tower where I lived in
• 28:36
Speaker 10: and or worked in, and and and that worked great,
• 28:39
Speaker 10: you know, And so I think there's opportunities to do
• 28:42
Speaker 10: things like that where we have some residential. We have
• 28:45
Speaker 10: some office base, we have you know, some recreation, and
• 28:48
Speaker 10: we have some stores.
• 28:49
Speaker 2: I mean, but ultimately, look, you know, you know, in.
• 28:51
Speaker 10: The past several years, this issue comes up and people
• 28:54
Speaker 10: complains that city needs to do something about the mall.
• 28:56
Speaker 2: It's like, we don't, you know, we don't own it.
• 28:58
Speaker 10: But if we do own it, you know, I don't
• 29:00
Speaker 10: think we're we're going to be the ones that are
• 29:02
Speaker 10: going to be the developers of it. You have to
• 29:04
Speaker 10: find someone to do.
• 29:04
Speaker 4: People I think forget that sometimes. And it's this is
• 29:07
Speaker 4: not exclusive to Charleston. I mean it happens in every
• 29:10
Speaker 4: town I read about on social media. Well, the city
• 29:12
Speaker 4: of Blank, you all need to put in a restaurant.
• 29:14
Speaker 4: Well that's not what cities do. You know, you don't
• 29:17
Speaker 4: put in restaurants. You don't put in things like this. Now,
• 29:20
Speaker 4: if you get in agreement with the whole group where
• 29:22
Speaker 4: maybe the city does take over it, then but you're
• 29:25
Speaker 4: still not going to be the one to put restaurants in.
• 29:27
Speaker 4: I mean that's you can go out and you can
• 29:29
Speaker 4: have you can say, hey, bring your place here, but
• 29:31
Speaker 4: it's not it's not the city diner so to speak,
• 29:34
Speaker 4: or whatever. And I think I'm I'm all on board
• 29:37
Speaker 4: with this multi use thing. I mean, I really really am,
• 29:39
Speaker 4: because it's worked so many other places.
• 29:41
Speaker 5: And it's not to say that.
• 29:43
Speaker 4: You couldn't have a nice restaurant there. It's not to
• 29:46
Speaker 4: say that you couldn't have a store or too. But
• 29:48
Speaker 4: to be whatever the town Center was in its peak,
• 29:51
Speaker 4: forty whatever it was, I don't know, forty five to
• 29:53
Speaker 4: seventy stores, whatever is there. That's not the that's not
• 29:56
Speaker 4: the future going forward.
• 29:58
  Speaker 2: I don't think so.
• 29:59
Speaker 10: And you know, I have ideas about things that we
• 30:02
Speaker 10: can put in there, but I'm not Look, I'm not
• 30:03
Speaker 10: a developer, you know. I don't have the metrics on this.
• 30:06
Speaker 10: I'm not that we need to find the folks who do,
• 30:09
Speaker 10: but I do think it has to have some kind
• 30:10
Speaker 10: of a mixed use.
• 30:11
Speaker 4: All right, So if you are going to be elected
• 30:15
Speaker 4: as a as an at large member of city council,
• 30:18
Speaker 4: we talked about a few of the things, but are
• 30:20
Speaker 4: there anything else that is kind of on your wish
• 30:22
Speaker 4: list for the city of Charleston going forward? Yeah?
• 30:24
Speaker 10: And I really I really think we just we really
• 30:26
Speaker 10: need to focus on ways that we can make redevelop
• 30:30
Speaker 10: get more people to stay here, and redevelop the land
• 30:33
Speaker 10: that we have, you know, and and create those third spaces.
• 30:36
Speaker 4: All right, Emma Pepper at large City councilman is running
• 30:40

Speaker 5: In San Diego where I'm angry.
• 34:40
  Speaker 4: No, are you telling me I can't I can't get

Speaker 4: does that I'm not sure.
• 35:24
Speaker 2: She's actually running the show.
• 35:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, the comments are are absolutely hilarious. I love the

  Speaker 4: and it said.
• 35:32
  Speaker 5: Which means old.
• 35:33
Speaker 4: You know, all right, so let's get serious here for Yeah,
• 35:37
  Speaker 4: now let's don't.
• 35:39
  Speaker 2: It's more fun.
• 35:40
Speaker 4: We got we got what's what are we looking at
• 35:43
Speaker 4: as we speak right now? Because right now we got
• 35:45
Speaker 4: our sock drop going on? Considering it's January the twenty second,
• 35:50
Speaker 4: not too terribly bad. Today, Tomorrow looks good. What do
• 35:54
Speaker 4: we got coming in Saturday, Sunday and into Monday and
• 35:56
Speaker 4: really all of next week?
• 35:58
Speaker 13: So uh, more than anything, the messaging has been there.
• 36:04
Speaker 13: Ari Sarsalari, who is with Foxweather, very good friend of mine.
• 36:08
Speaker 13: You know, as he said he said last night, he goes,
• 36:11
  Speaker 13: you know, we haven't had a storm, and I've I've
• 36:15
Speaker 13: said this as well, we haven't had a storm that
• 36:17
Speaker 13: has had this much advertisement this far ahead in a
• 36:21
Speaker 13: long time, especially in this digital age. And when I
• 36:25
Speaker 13: say digital age, digital age actually kicked off about fifteen
• 36:27
Speaker 13: twenty years ago really, but the new digital age where
• 36:30
Speaker 13: we have literally forecast models, all of them right at
• 36:34
Speaker 13: our fingertips, and we can go through and analyze every
• 36:37
Speaker 13: single one of them as they come in. But this
• 36:40
Speaker 13: storm has been well advertised. You know, there's this storm coming.
• 36:43
Speaker 13: Everybody from New Mexico to the East coast. You know
• 36:47
  Speaker 13: there's a storm coming.
• 36:48
Speaker 2: That's about sixteen hundred miles worth of winter storm watches
• 36:52
Speaker 2: that were all issued at the exact same time yesterday
• 36:55
Speaker 2: and once the last time that happened.
• 36:57
Speaker 13: We haven't had one like that, especially with the coordination,
• 37:00
Speaker 13: and it takes it literally took the National Weather Service
• 37:03
Speaker 13: as a collective hole of say, we're issuing this winter
• 37:05
Speaker 13: storm watch, even though some of it was outside of
• 37:07
Speaker 13: the parameters for when they normally would, We're issuing this
• 37:11
Speaker 13: winter storm watch for everybody across the country at once
• 37:14
Speaker 13: because this is so impactful and the message needs to
• 37:17
Speaker 13: be cohesive, and that is we've got a major impacting
• 37:21
Speaker 13: storm that is going to cross the country and on
• 37:24
Speaker 13: the far southern side there's gonna be ice.
• 37:27
Speaker 2: There's a chance that in southern West Virginia and maybe
• 37:29
  Speaker 2: southeast Kentucky.
• 37:30
Speaker 13: We do get some sweet and maybe some freezing rain
• 37:34
Speaker 13: mixing in. We've talked about it before, the warm wedge
• 37:37
Speaker 13: the storm system is incredibly powerful, and the fact that
• 37:42
Speaker 13: it can draw the warm air up from you know,
• 37:45
Speaker 13: the deep South, literally Alabama, Georgia, back up across parts
• 37:49
Speaker 13: of you know, North Carolina, Tennessee, and right up the
• 37:53
Speaker 13: centrally corridor g from you know, right there from Pikeville Juice,
• 37:57
Speaker 13: all the way of cord Or g and even up
• 37:59
Speaker 13: to as far as maybe flat woods, as far as Clarksburg.
• 38:04
Speaker 13: It might even get there. And that's going to cut
• 38:07
Speaker 13: some snow totals back. But do you go north of there,
• 38:09
Speaker 13: Holy smokes, the Ohio River a foot of snow and
• 38:14
Speaker 13: into the mountains a foot to maybe even eighteen inches
• 38:17
Speaker 13: worth of snow. But you know, forecast models as of now,
• 38:21
Speaker 13: so we've talked about this, the national blend of models
• 38:25
Speaker 13: has any has spikeful around four to five inches worth
• 38:29
Speaker 13: of snow right now. Beckley could be on order of
• 38:33
Speaker 13: about six inches of snow. Charleston could be anywhere from
• 38:38
Speaker 13: six to eight inches of snow if the warm wedge
• 38:42
Speaker 13: wins out. But last night the forecast models started to
• 38:47
Speaker 13: trend back south. Wasn't a lot, but it was enough
• 38:50
Speaker 13: that it was it was substantial that we go, Okay,
• 38:52
Speaker 13: there's the trend. There's what we call a windshill wiper
• 38:56
Speaker 13: effect where it goes back and forth, back and forth,
• 38:58
Speaker 13: And we still do expect probably by this afternoon a
• 39:01
Speaker 13: little bit touched further south.
• 39:03
Speaker 2: But for here the Charleston metro area.
• 39:06
Speaker 13: How critical is that it's very critical because if the
• 39:09
Speaker 13: models just trend just far enough south, it's a difference
• 39:12
Speaker 13: from us having anywhere from a six inch snow to
• 39:15
  Speaker 13: a foot.
• 39:16
Speaker 5: Okay, And when might we know if that's the case.
• 39:22
Speaker 13: I really it's going to be this afternoon into this
• 39:24
Speaker 13: evening tonight, okay, because because I mean we're still snow
• 39:28
Speaker 13: didn't start till Saturday, Yeah, and here it is Thursday.
• 39:31
Speaker 13: We obviously we know that in the forecast. I think
• 39:35
Speaker 13: you saw the posts that had this morning. You know,
• 39:37
Speaker 13: the forecast from the National Weather Service this morning was
• 39:40
Speaker 13: that we would have the possibility and mind you, it
• 39:43
Speaker 13: is a wide range, but we have an eight to
• 39:46
Speaker 13: twelve inch potential for snow, and that would be if
• 39:50
Speaker 13: the warm wedge does not win.
• 39:53
Speaker 2: And this is what I have.
• 39:54
Speaker 4: Been seeing from a lot of folks online. They're saying, well,
• 39:56
Speaker 4: and we hear about that warm wedge. It kind of protects,
• 39:59
Speaker 4: you know, from some time Huntings and Charleston.
• 40:01
Speaker 5: Maybe that this good.
• 40:02
Speaker 4: But what you're saying is is even if the warm
• 40:04
Speaker 4: wedge comes in, it doesn't mean that, oh, we're not
• 40:06
Speaker 4: going to get any snow at all. Everybody is going
• 40:08
Speaker 4: to get a lot of snow regardless of what went right.
• 40:11
Speaker 13: I mean, you think about it. Four inches of snow,
• 40:13
Speaker 13: that's your shoveling stuff. Two to four inches is when
• 40:17
Speaker 13: you start pulling the shovels out and the snowblowers. Four
• 40:19
Speaker 13: inches there are a lot of folks that bring snow
• 40:21
Speaker 13: blowers out even for that, but especially once you get
• 40:23
Speaker 13: to six inches, which I firmly believe we are going
• 40:26
Speaker 13: to be at least six inches here right now as
• 40:29
Speaker 13: we speak, right now, six inches of snow in the
• 40:32
Speaker 13: Charles the metro area.
• 40:33
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 40:33
Speaker 4: And but even my point is is even if that
• 40:36
Speaker 4: warm wedge that we always talk about does went out
• 40:39
Speaker 4: or takes the upper hand, or what analogy you want
• 40:42
Speaker 4: to use, that doesn't mean we're not going to get snow.
• 40:44
Speaker 4: Because I saw people post and say, oh, we're just
• 40:46
Speaker 4: gonna get rain for here. No, no, no, that's not
• 40:48
Speaker 4: gonna happen. No, No, it's that that's a joke. Could
• 40:51
Speaker 4: that mix in later, yes, But here's the here's the
• 40:53
Speaker 4: bigger problem. And this is where uh, this is where
• 40:56
Speaker 4: my discussions with h you know, municipal leaders and UCH
• 41:00
Speaker 4: comes in, is that we're going to start think about
• 41:03
  Speaker 4: this Saturday.
• 41:04
Speaker 2: We're barely going to get above twenty degrees. That's okay.
• 41:08
Speaker 13: We've set the stage beginning Friday evening and night going
• 41:13
Speaker 13: into Saturday morning that we're cooling the ground up off significantly.
• 41:18
Speaker 13: So everything that falls going into Saturday evening will most
• 41:23
Speaker 13: Saturday afternoon, even though it's only going to be a
• 41:25
Speaker 13: half inch an inch maybe two inches by the time
• 41:27
Speaker 13: sunset hits probably a round an inch by sunset. That
• 41:31
Speaker 13: is there, and you have this coating that is keeping
• 41:35
Speaker 13: the ground so cold. If the warm wedge moves in,
• 41:38
Speaker 13: then you put ice on top of it, and then
• 41:41
Speaker 13: you know, that's and even if we do briefly get
• 41:44
Speaker 13: some very cold rain, still that becomes a layer of ice,
• 41:47
Speaker 13: and then there's snow that comes into this sunstude.
• 41:49
Speaker 4: And this kind of reminds me last year around January
• 41:52
Speaker 4: sixth or whatever, we had a similar situation.
• 41:54
Speaker 5: It was on a weekend.
• 41:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, I've started on Sunday, we had snow and then
• 41:58
Speaker 4: we had freezing rain. On top of that, and then
• 42:00
Speaker 4: we had more snow on.
• 42:01
Speaker 2: Top of it, and the cold settled in and he
• 42:03
  Speaker 2: could and.
• 42:03
Speaker 5: The snow stuck around for a long time, and.
• 42:05
Speaker 13: Everyone in Kanas City complained, like you wouldn't believe because.
• 42:09
Speaker 2: Nobody touched our streets. You live in the flats, of
• 42:12
Speaker 2: course they're not going to get touched.
• 42:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, Now that's just I mean, that's the hills when
• 42:16
Speaker 4: you when I mean the area that I live in
• 42:18
Speaker 4: in Putnam County, uh Tays Valley Road, they do a
• 42:21
Speaker 4: decent job on it. The subdivision that I live in,
• 42:24
Speaker 4: we have a guy that comes in and scrapes, okay,
• 42:27
Speaker 4: but he's not going to do it that off because
• 42:29
Speaker 4: he's doing fifty five other subdivisions exactly. So that's just
• 42:32
  Speaker 4: part of you.
• 42:32
Speaker 5: You choose we live, and you think about things like this.
• 42:35
Speaker 4: You know, I chose my wife and I chose our
• 42:37
Speaker 4: house because when I when we were living in Logan,
• 42:39
Speaker 4: I lived on a hill and one winter my vehicle
• 42:43
Speaker 4: was parked at the bottom of the hill the entire winter,
• 42:45
Speaker 4: and I said, I'm not doing this again. When we
• 42:47
Speaker 4: went to a real estate agent, I said, flat that's
• 42:50
  Speaker 4: what I want.
• 42:51
Speaker 5: Flat land, no more hills. No more, no more hills.
• 42:54
Speaker 13: And so so that's so that is the that is
• 42:57
Speaker 13: the concern amongst state county city leaders is if we
• 43:03
Speaker 13: get the eyes, that's the worst problem, because you know
• 43:06
Speaker 13: they're gonna be the city, the city streets that you
• 43:08
  Speaker 13: can't touch.
• 43:08
Speaker 2: It's gonna have layer of eyes. And then you've got
• 43:10
Speaker 2: you've got to take care of the people that live
• 43:12
Speaker 2: in the hills. They're the first priority. But I cannot
• 43:16
Speaker 2: stress this enough. It is going to be so cold
• 43:20
Speaker 2: right before and right after all next week, not get
• 43:24
Speaker 2: enough freezing. Matter of fact, we've got a couple of
• 43:26
Speaker 2: shots where we will probably have second half of next week,
• 43:29
Speaker 2: big time cold that moves back in another chance of snow,
• 43:32
Speaker 2: another chance of snow. Now think about this.
• 43:34
Speaker 13: Ten years ago today we were reeling from the sixteen
• 43:38
Speaker 13: inches of snow that we had ten years ago at
• 43:40
  Speaker 13: this time.
• 43:41
Speaker 2: That's what shut down the West Virginia Auto Show. And
• 43:43
Speaker 2: probably yesterday all your pictures in Facebook started showing up
• 43:47
Speaker 2: of remember this from ten years I have.
• 43:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, But I will tell you the honety and Fishing
• 43:52
Speaker 4: show is going on because we had Glenn Gerrel on yesterday.
• 43:55
Speaker 2: And you're doing the snow you hunt in the snow.
• 43:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, and so my fish. Can you hang out with
• 43:59

• 47:06
Speaker 4: late today, is what you're.
• 47:08
Speaker 13: Saying, late today tomorrow morning. Yes, we're gonna have it
• 47:11
Speaker 13: all buttoned up for the most part. All right, you
• 47:13
Speaker 13: know there's still forecast models that come in. And believe me,
• 47:16
Speaker 13: it was a game of mine yesterday afternoon evening last night.
• 47:19
  Speaker 13: I think I'm I've been every single person's Facebook bead
• 47:23
Speaker 13: in West Virginia and Kentucky and Tennessee and Virginia.
• 47:28
Speaker 4: Explain to people though, because people will say a lot
• 47:31
Speaker 4: of people have said, well, you know, I look at
• 47:34
Speaker 4: this weather person and they say this, or I look
• 47:36
Speaker 4: at this service and they say that. And just like
• 47:38
Speaker 4: everything in life, there's going to people are going to
• 47:40
Speaker 4: look at things and see disagreements.
• 47:42
Speaker 2: Right there, Absolutely is.
• 47:44
  Speaker 13: I mean, as I as I've said, I've been doing
• 47:46
Speaker 13: this well over twenty five years, and you know there's
• 47:49
Speaker 13: pattern recognition. I know the biases of forecast models, and
• 47:53
Speaker 13: I look at some of that as as you know,
• 47:56
Speaker 13: an absolute experience. When I know the biases, I know
• 47:59
Speaker 13: I know what things perform a little bit better. And listen,
• 48:02
Speaker 13: we're all listening to each other to some degree, We're
• 48:04
Speaker 13: all listening. Listen to one thing this that the other.
• 48:07
Speaker 13: I won't listen to Jim ken Toy, very good friend
• 48:09
Speaker 13: of mine. I don't know that he's coming to Charleston.
• 48:12
Speaker 2: If he does, i'll let you. If he does, he'll
• 48:14
Speaker 2: call me and he'll let you know. But not as yet.
• 48:16
Speaker 2: But I listened to what everybody's thinking. Because somebody finds
• 48:19
Speaker 2: something there like hey, this blah blah blah, check this out,
• 48:22
Speaker 2: and then you go, oh, look at that. Yeah, so
• 48:24
Speaker 2: there you you absorb so much, but then it's time
• 48:27
Speaker 2: to regurgitate it and tell people what she and it
• 48:29
  Speaker 2: could all.
• 48:30
Speaker 4: It could all change, right But as we stand right
• 48:34
Speaker 4: at a store, as we stand right now, give us
• 48:40
Speaker 4: a timeline as as and it may all change tomorrow,
• 48:42
Speaker 4: but as it stands right now, because people are playning,
• 48:44
Speaker 4: there's high school basketball and so on and so forth. Uh,
• 48:48
Speaker 4: give us a timeline. We're fine tomorrow and Friday. Tomorrow, Friday,
• 48:51
  Speaker 4: we're fine.
• 48:52
Speaker 5: And what point Saturday should we start getting concerned.
• 48:54
Speaker 2: On Saturday, we will be cold. Temperatures are going to
• 48:57
Speaker 2: have a hard time getting out of the teens. We're
• 48:59
Speaker 2: going to a few spots. Will we get to the
• 49:01
  Speaker 2: low twenties.
• 49:02
Speaker 13: But as we go into the midday, well, some light
• 49:04
Speaker 13: flurries that'll start, then some light snow showers. By the
• 49:07
Speaker 13: time we get the sunset, there'll probably be an inch,
• 49:10
Speaker 13: maybe up to two inches. As we go into Saturday night, though,
• 49:13
Speaker 13: this snow will ramp up significantly. Now there is a
• 49:17
Speaker 13: possibility that in the overnight hours, as that snow is
• 49:20
Speaker 13: starting to as that snow is starting to ramp up,
• 49:23
Speaker 13: that we will have some winterry mix that maybe some
• 49:26
Speaker 13: sleep freezing rate that mixes in in that warm wedge
• 49:28
Speaker 13: along one nineteen quarter or g. And then after that
• 49:31
Speaker 13: the snow comes back in, it takes does.
• 49:33
Speaker 5: That melt any of the snow that's.
• 49:35
Speaker 2: There, It will melt some of it, but not all.
• 49:38
Speaker 5: And then the snow and then we're all in the
• 49:39
  Speaker 5: snow again.
• 49:40
Speaker 13: Sunday all back to snow and then it is going
• 49:42
Speaker 13: to be cold, and the snow will wrap up on
• 49:44
Speaker 13: on Monday. But Monday it'll be flurries and most of
• 49:46
Speaker 13: that will be happening the mountains of West vidg All.
• 49:48
Speaker 5: Right, and morning commute on Monday looking rough.
• 49:50
Speaker 13: It doesn't look good at all. Matter of fact, I
• 49:52
  Speaker 13: don't think there's gonna be a lot of events. I
• 49:55
Speaker 13: believe probably almost all fifty five counties West Virginia will
• 49:58
Speaker 13: be out of school on Monday.
• 49:59
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 49:59
Speaker 4: That's that's you know, that's where we are right now. Yes,
• 50:02
Speaker 4: and high school basketball Saturday night. Because I know a
• 50:04
Speaker 4: lot of folks are listening to you. You think most
• 50:07
Speaker 4: of it will be canceled.
• 50:08
Speaker 2: You they need to move them up to the midday
• 50:10
Speaker 2: or go ahead and cancel.
• 50:11
Speaker 4: We've got a big concert over and that's not going
• 50:13
Speaker 4: to cancel the Jason Alden Show. I mean that they're
• 50:15
Speaker 4: going to do that no matter what.
• 50:16
Speaker 2: Jason Aldin may be spending Sunday in parts of Monday
• 50:20
  Speaker 2: in West Virginia.
• 50:21
Speaker 4: All right, Jason's a regular listening to the show.
• 50:24
Speaker 13: By the way, well listen, Jason, have a concert come
• 50:27
Speaker 13: on in Monday morning right here?
• 50:29
  Speaker 5: All right?
• 50:30
Speaker 4: All right, Meteorologist Brian Hughes, I appreciate you, buddy. Follow
• 50:33
Speaker 4: this gun on Facebook if you will, because he's he's
• 50:35
Speaker 4: doing great things. Appreciate you being here, man.
• 50:36
  Speaker 2: Thanks.
• 50:37
Speaker 4: Let's hang out with me here one second. Let's go
• 50:39
Speaker 4: to the Capitol and let's see. We got Wilson Meadows
• 50:42
Speaker 4: coming up with talk line today morning. Fellas, how we
• 50:45
Speaker 4: doing We don't have them I thought, well, oh now
• 50:50
Speaker 4: we have them. How are we doing, guys? Okay, well
• 50:55
Speaker 4: they were there, Well.
• 50:56
Speaker 13: They are there. There are a bunch of monkeys that
• 50:59
Speaker 13: are spending place down there. They got they got to
• 51:02
Speaker 13: get the one more plate on there.
• 51:03
Speaker 4: All right, all right, all right, so they they got
• 51:07
Speaker 4: called away. Yeah, apparently it happens.
• 51:10
Speaker 5: All right, Are are you there?
• 51:11
  Speaker 2: Boys?
• 51:13
  Speaker 12: Dad?
• 51:13
  Speaker 2: Good morning?
• 51:14
