- 0:10What does the nanny do? OK, so we're done.
- 0:13Goodbye. You shut it off.
- 0:17Do not twist my words. Do not.
- 0:19Make me a victim, sweetie. Just look at the mountain.
- 0:22That's what you saw that day. Just the knife in the kidneys
- 0:27over all these years and the sacrifices that I made to love
- 0:32you. Hello listeners, welcome back to
- 0:50my Sister Wives podcast, A new year and a new season.
- 0:54Season 4 of this delightfully trashy rewatch show where we
- 1:00rewatch Sister Wives starting out this new year with the new
- 1:04season and we have an update on our Deadbeat Loser crew.
- 1:09So exciting. Allie will not be joining us on
- 1:12this season of My Sister Eyes podcast.
- 1:14We wish her well and maybe one day she'll be back here on the
- 1:17microphone with us. Who knows, but for the time
- 1:20being, I'm happy to introduce my good friend that I've known for
- 1:23many, many years, Kimber. Hello, Kimber.
- 1:26Hello. Hi, now for those of you on
- 1:30Patreon who have joined us, you've probably heard of Kimber
- 1:33already. We've done a conversations
- 1:34piece. We have another show starting
- 1:37this month called Am I the Asshole where we review Am I the
- 1:41Asshole? Post on Reddit and Kimber is
- 1:43joining me for my Sister Wives podcast season 4.
- 1:48Oh my gosh. Let's do a little overview of
- 1:51what you know of Sister Wives. OK OK, now Kimber and I have a
- 1:57shared. We've both existed in the world
- 2:01of TLC in this weird way, and I think if I'm correct in saying
- 2:06you have watched primarily up until now with Sister Wives and
- 2:12are somewhat familiar with where the family goes, give us some
- 2:17details. Yes I watched back when it first
- 2:22aired. The first few seasons I watched
- 2:25and then my upkeep with the Browns has been basically what I
- 2:33see on TikTok or other social media.
- 2:39You know, people trash talking or showing clips or just little
- 2:46like tidbits about them, Yeah. Which is funny because no one
- 2:49trash talks to Brown family. They're they're America's
- 2:53family. Right.
- 2:55I'm very excited to be here with you and to be doing this and
- 2:58talking sister wives together. Oh my gosh, you're going to be
- 3:02bringing your boundless insights.
- 3:04About the Browns. About the Browns.
- 3:06Browns boundless insights. Yes, yes, there's a whole
- 3:12spectrum from shit stained a mustard seed, my favorite
- 3:17comments and people are like, why do they talk about shit
- 3:19stains and mustard seeds? And I'm like, Oh my gosh, you
- 3:21have to listen to more than one episode or just, you know,
- 3:24logical deduction. But yeah, yeah, who am I to
- 3:26judge? That's the only reason I'm here
- 3:29is to judge. On this episode, we open at
- 3:31Robyn's house and the bottom third says that it's October
- 3:352011, where we're doing our flashback footage to Robyn
- 3:38giving her very silent birth. It was very, very quiet.
- 3:43She didn't have much to say. Oh my gosh.
- 3:46Weirdly quiet and way too many people joining in on things way
- 3:52too soon after. You pointed out when we were
- 3:55watching the episode together, Stepdaddy, Uncle, whatever his
- 3:59name is, her stepdad in the room with the camera.
- 4:03And I was reiterating that sometimes the senior members of
- 4:07the family are there to give blessings, the men, because only
- 4:09men can of course, get blessings because it's a cult.
- 4:12So why was Robyn's mom not there?
- 4:15Still don't know. Where was Robyn's mom?
- 4:17No idea. But her stepdaddy could be
- 4:20there, which was so nice. And you were saying something
- 4:24like, there's a lot of stuff that happens with birth A.
- 4:27Lot of stuff, it's messy. Yeah, and I said, well, they put
- 4:31down a pee pad and you were like, right.
- 4:34Yeah, they literally do that at hospital too, except for you're
- 4:38at a hospital and you're not on your own sheets so.
- 4:41Yeah, yeah. There was a lot of family
- 4:43members around, a lot of people. Well, during the birth it was
- 4:47pretty much Kody, midwife, midwife's assistant.
- 4:51The girls came in and out, but there was at least one or two
- 4:54camp like production crew in the room, so that's interesting.
- 4:59Robyn seemed pretty comfortable with just pushing that baby out
- 5:04and that was that. I mean, she was in her zone.
- 5:08She probably wasn't really too worried about everyone else
- 5:11around her, so, you know. That makes sense.
- 5:14They give us a flashback to everyone coming to visit the
- 5:16baby, all of the kids and all of the other wives.
- 5:20Literally right after she had the baby and it's like, oh, call
- 5:24everyone to come here and she probably still hasn't even
- 5:26birthed the placenta. Let's bring them on in.
- 5:29Bring them on in, bring them all in.
- 5:32They do do a cutaway to the kids on the couch.
- 5:34And Aspen said that Solomon looks like Hunter, which I
- 5:37thought was pretty cute because there was that moment of Hunter
- 5:40holding Solomon at the end of the last episode in season 3.
- 5:44And I found it to be a touching moment because you know,
- 5:47Hunters, they'll bit, you know, teenage boy.
- 5:50And Robyn has a big sensitivity to like, he doesn't seem to like
- 5:54me. And it's like, OK, bitch.
- 5:55Like so the 13 year old boy doesn't like you like, get a
- 5:57grip. But then when he's holding Saul,
- 5:59it's like, oh, little heartwarming moment.
- 6:02At least it warmed to my frigid heart.
- 6:05We get an update from Kody where he says that Solomon is 2 months
- 6:08old. And they do another flashback to
- 6:10Robyn offering Meri to be a surrogate, which was a big thing
- 6:16at the end of last season because obviously it's a big
- 6:20gesture, a little weird. I think based on some of the
- 6:24comments that I was reading online, people were generally on
- 6:28the side of this is creepy, this is strange, This is not going to
- 6:32work out well. There's no way it would.
- 6:34Yeah, I, you know, my initial reaction was like, I don't know,
- 6:38I had a sister-in-law offer surrogacy to me and it was
- 6:42really touching. So I didn't really jump to that
- 6:44conclusion. But then after hearing that from
- 6:47others, I was like, oh, totally. Because it's like you're going
- 6:51to carry your husband's other wives baby and then like that's
- 6:57a whole mess, whole complicated bit A.
- 7:00Little self-serving too, probably.
- 7:02Yeah, and when Robyn, Robyn was talking about it, I noticed that
- 7:06when she was having her spotlight moment, she actually
- 7:08had her hair and makeup. Did her hair looked like someone
- 7:11else did it for her? Which was perhaps the first
- 7:15time, other than, like, television appearances where
- 7:17I've noted one of the wives looking like, well, she doesn't
- 7:21look awful. So that was interesting.
- 7:27Yes. And Robyn lets us know that Meri
- 7:28is thinking it over. You know, Robyn had to point out
- 7:31that, you know, Solomon has to be old enough so that I can have
- 7:34another baby and blah, blah, blah.
- 7:35And it was like, shut up, bitch. Like, no one cares.
- 7:37No one cares. Like give me a year for my womb
- 7:40to heal and then I'm ready for you, Meri.
- 7:43I'm ready for you, Meri. Oh boy.
- 7:45Yeah. Oh.
- 7:46My God, I just had a visual of Robyn with her like legs spread,
- 7:49being like, I'm ready before you marry.
- 7:51You're like, oh God, no, no, it's not right.
- 7:55Kody says that the family is busy.
- 7:57They have a new child, They're trying to get new homes, they're
- 8:01starting businesses. They are just all over the
- 8:03place, these Browns. Starting businesses, real
- 8:06estate, and they're big old real estate thing.
- 8:10They're going to be real estate moguls, they're going to open a
- 8:12gym. They're just going to be so
- 8:14busy. At this point, all we've heard
- 8:17from Robyn is some rumblings and mumblings of things that she
- 8:20wants to do. By the end of this episode,
- 8:23we'll hear about what her ambitions are.
- 8:24Yeah. While they're on the couch, they
- 8:27talk about how the family has rented A10 bedroom house to
- 8:30celebrate Christmas, their first Christmas in Las Vegas.
- 8:34And what do they call it? The Christmas they.
- 8:36Call it literally the Christmas vacation home.
- 8:41Very clever title. Yeah.
- 8:44I mean, it is what it is. It's a Christmas vacation home.
- 8:47Christmas. Vacation home.
- 8:48I wonder how far out of town it was or whatever because I don't
- 8:52know. They made it seem like it was in
- 8:54town and it is in town but I don't know.
- 8:57The house was also odd, like it was a weird house.
- 9:00They gave it its own lower third too, like as they were cutting
- 9:03to the Christmas house and it said that'll cross the bottom.
- 9:07I'm like, Oh my God. It's it's a very special place,
- 9:09many beautiful memories made. With weird statues There were
- 9:14like some odd statues throughout the.
- 9:16House. Oh God, we'll get to the
- 9:18interior in a second. They cut to all the adults
- 9:21meeting Mona to look at properties.
- 9:23Now, you know, this show, the editing is all over the place.
- 9:27So it's like, OK, all of a sudden we're going to go look at
- 9:29properties. And there's like option A,
- 9:32option B and option C Option A we did see at the end of last
- 9:36season, which was the cul-de-sac properties where Kody thinks
- 9:41that he can envision all four of his wives in each home.
- 9:45And Robyn can yell, is Aurora over there?
- 9:48Can you spare me a cup of milk and I could shove her face into
- 9:53the curb? Kody says that the biggest
- 9:57challenge with Property A is the price, Of course, because of
- 10:02course it has to be expensive. Yep.
- 10:04When they go to option B, they discuss how it's out of the
- 10:07school zones for elementary and middle school.
- 10:09At least Meri's pretty sure that it's not.
- 10:11The middle school is not there and whatever.
- 10:14And I don't even remember what was that option B like.
- 10:16Maybe there was one house and they were like you could build
- 10:18the other. Three, there was one 2800 square
- 10:23foot home that already existed there.
- 10:27When they could have horses and chickens and whatever.
- 10:30And so I don't remember his Christine was like all the
- 10:32chickens. Because it's like, you know,
- 10:34Kody fancies himself a ranch hand.
- 10:36So he, you know, typical man, too, Like, let's have all these
- 10:38animals so that someone else will take care of them because,
- 10:40like, what? Kody's going to be out there,
- 10:42like taking care of the chickens.
- 10:43Yeah. Give me a break.
- 10:45Yeah, they are. It's not easy.
- 10:47Anytime a friend is like chickens, I'm like shoot it.
- 10:50No stop, stop. Don't do it now.
- 10:53If you do it and you love it, congratulations.
- 10:55The average person is probably going to be like this is too
- 10:58much work. Yeah, you do it and you spend
- 11:01all that money and make a chicken coop and get the
- 11:03chickens, and then you're like, oh, crap.
- 11:06Yeah, yeah. And I have to clean their coop
- 11:08every single day. No, thank you.
- 11:10Now, Kimber, I could see you out there on your hands and knees
- 11:12cleaning a chicken coop. Do you think so?
- 11:15The only reason I would like chickens.
- 11:18Just being honest here. Yeah, they eat bugs.
- 11:21So. If you let them roam in your
- 11:23yard, they would eat bugs out of your yard that you like.
- 11:27Don't want? Well.
- 11:28That would be good. And now I'm imagining, you know,
- 11:30like, the English countryside with, like, you know, very
- 11:33Madonna when she was with Guy Ritchie, like, oh, I feed the
- 11:35chickens and whatever. But it's like this.
- 11:38That's not what's happening in the, like, Dead End St. in
- 11:40Vegas. Yeah.
- 11:41That's not where my dead end St. here.
- 11:43Like hello boys would be chasing those chickens.
- 11:46Those chickens all around. Imagine all those kids too with
- 11:49chickens chasing those poor chickens around.
- 11:52Those chickens would be like constantly fearing for their
- 11:54life just because of all of the brown children all.
- 11:58Of the children everywhere yes while they're discussing their
- 12:01potential homes that they would build here on option B,
- 12:05Christine says that she wants a wrestling room now this is
- 12:08because you know Kody is a wrestling star he was like
- 12:11Allstate blah blah blah he really knows how to wear a
- 12:14singlet he really loves to wear a singlet oh.
- 12:17My. God, yeah, that man.
- 12:19And he likes to smell other sweaty men and, like, wrestle
- 12:23them to the ground. He's really into that, and
- 12:26Christine refers to this wrestling room as her anger room
- 12:29where everyone can just get out their aggression, which I love.
- 12:33Yeah, wrestling room for the boys to get their aggression
- 12:36out. Yeah.
- 12:37And she would just send them up there and be like, go to the
- 12:40wrestling room or the anger room.
- 12:42The anger room, Yeah, Which is funny because, I mean, you have
- 12:46two young boys and I think you could enjoy a wrestling room if
- 12:50it meant, like, go in that padded room.
- 12:51If it was padded, I was going to say if it was fully padded, we
- 12:54don't need any heads going through walls either like.
- 12:57Exactly. Exactly.
- 12:57I don't know if you want that confined to a room either.
- 13:01Oh, and the room would smell great.
- 13:02Yeah, it would smell 1 you. Could you wouldn't have any time
- 13:05to work. You'd have to split your time
- 13:07between the chicken coop and picking up all the poop and then
- 13:09bleaching the shit out of the wrestling.
- 13:11Lots of ringworm would be going around the house I feel like if
- 13:14you had a wrestling. That's all the brown needs is
- 13:17more diseases. The Brown family, you know, just
- 13:19like, shit around everywhere. Ring where Amanda Athlete's
- 13:22foot. Yeah, Oh, beautiful, beautiful
- 13:25option. CI Think it was Janelle that
- 13:28said it had tumbleweeds. And I was like, OK, it was like
- 13:32up by the hills and the mountains.
- 13:33It was a little far out of town, had a view of the city where I
- 13:36think Robyn trash talked the view, making it like, why would
- 13:40you want to see the view of the city?
- 13:41And it's like, well, most cities are attractive at night, like
- 13:45the lights. I mean, I don't know that Vegas
- 13:47is necessarily Uber beautiful at night, but I don't think it
- 13:50would be ugly. Yeah, that was a weird comment.
- 13:52I suppose some people would prefer just to look out at
- 13:56wildlife in nature, but we're city folks, so we get the city
- 14:01view thing. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:03Also, while they were on this Option C and discussing the
- 14:06tumbleweeds, there was country music playing in the background.
- 14:09And I was like, sometimes I love the production on this show
- 14:13because they'll be so literal, Like, let's play honky tonk
- 14:16music with the tumbleweed discussion.
- 14:18Like, all right. They cut back to the couch and
- 14:22all the adults agree that option A is their favorite option.
- 14:26And they kind of have a celebratory moment where they're
- 14:28like, we all agree on something. And it's like, OK, like.
- 14:31Ding Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding. Finally, we all agree on
- 14:34something and they're like so overly excited about it because
- 14:38that never happens. When in all reality, it's like,
- 14:39well, of course this is the option.
- 14:41Like, what was someone going to be like?
- 14:42No, I want the tumbleweeds or I want the one where my kids can't
- 14:45go to the same school. Like, I don't know.
- 14:46I want the one where it has the one house built and whoever gets
- 14:50stuck with the old house and not the new ones going to be so
- 14:53happy. And Janelle would probably be
- 14:55like, I'll take the current one, like it doesn't matter which is
- 14:58just yeah, I hate saying that because Janelle doesn't deserve
- 15:01to have the old. Shitty.
- 15:02No, she doesn't. She's the one that works the
- 15:04hardest out of the, like, everybody, Yeah.
- 15:06But all the other wives would be like, well, I'm not taking the
- 15:08shitty old house. And it's like, Oh my gosh, the
- 15:11shitty old house. It's probably not even shitty,
- 15:13but we're going to call it the shitty.
- 15:15The shitty old. House After this consensus is
- 15:19made that option A is the best. Then we get Christmas music
- 15:23playing because it's the holidays now, a time of
- 15:27recording. This is pretty funny because
- 15:30Christmas just happened for us in real time.
- 15:33And in the show Christmas is just a few days away.
- 15:36They let us know. So it's like we're reliving the
- 15:39holidays now in the year of our Lord, 2026 currently right now,
- 15:44but 2025 Christmas is what just passed.
- 15:47And it was like the year of influenza, like everyone was
- 15:51sick everywhere. And so my Christmas was full of
- 15:56sick. It was not pleasant.
- 15:59I was ill. How was your Christmas, darling?
- 16:01The same sick kids, sick husband.
- 16:06And I thought I had avoided it, and I was so happy that I had
- 16:10avoided the plague. And then Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope.
- 16:13It came for me too. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:15I was just the last of the horde to get it.
- 16:18Oh, of course, Of course. Yeah.
- 16:20Well, and I was having flashbacks to the brown
- 16:23Christmas when they go to the cabin and everyone's sick and
- 16:26they're all coughing the entire time and I'm like, Oh my God.
- 16:29Like, horrible. Gross.
- 16:30Can you imagine being the crew, like the camera crew that was
- 16:33there and in that little house in space with them?
- 16:36Yeah, yeah, that'd be nasty. Because it's like unavoidable,
- 16:41Like it's just going to happen. Like you're going to get sick.
- 16:44Like it is what it is. Yeah, and it's not even your own
- 16:47family. So like you're.
- 16:48Yeah, yeah, sharing it with. Go film these polygamous
- 16:52celebrating Christmas and they're all sick.
- 16:54And it was probably right before the holidays.
- 16:56So it's like, great, now I get to go home and not be sick for
- 16:59my holiday. Meri and Robyn go shopping for
- 17:02gifts for the other sister wives and they love shopping and
- 17:07they're showing them looking at rings and talking about the
- 17:10things. And then we get a lovely voice
- 17:12over from Christine where she says she doesn't like shopping
- 17:15with Meri and Robyn. And then she makes fun of them
- 17:18for how they choose things. And it's kind of funny because
- 17:21then there's a moment where she's like, just because there's
- 17:23four sister wives doesn't mean we have to do everything
- 17:26together. And then there was like a pause,
- 17:28and then they all start laughing.
- 17:29And it was pretty silly. She obviously was like, yeah, I
- 17:32can't stand shopping with them. But then they they were like
- 17:35cutting to clips of them doing that.
- 17:37Yeah, they were. That's what she was making fun
- 17:38of them for. Looking at those big ass ugly
- 17:41old necklaces. Sorry, yes, those necklaces were
- 17:44so popular during that time period and I had quite a few
- 17:48large necklace like that myself and I just can't even imagine
- 17:52wearing something like that now and just like the heaviness of
- 17:55it. I know I watched.
- 17:56There was some podcast that I was listening to where a drag
- 17:59queen was talking about how she has all of these statement
- 18:01necklaces and she's like, I still wear them because I'm a
- 18:03drag queen, but like no one, no one else wears them.
- 18:05Nobody all swears them anymore. I mean, we shouldn't say that.
- 18:09There's probably people that are still stuck in that.
- 18:12Wearing them right now. Yeah, like I'm wearing my big
- 18:14necklace. It's like rattling in the
- 18:15background as they're listening to the podcast.
- 18:17It's like. Well, honey, just take a look at
- 18:21current trends and, you know, evaluate.
- 18:23Evaluate. Yeah, it'll put them in a box.
- 18:25They'll come back in 10-15 years.
- 18:27It'll be popular again. I mean, if you're dressing like
- 18:29the Sister Wives circa 20/11/2012, you got a fucking
- 18:34problem. OK, you got a problem.
- 18:36This yes, this necklace really accentuates my spaghetti strap
- 18:40over my tank top. My long.
- 18:41Sleeve high neck shirt. Yeah.
- 18:44My tank top, yeah. Oh, the Sister Wives fashion.
- 18:47Oh, that's a good idea. We we could do a little spread
- 18:50of our Sister Wives fashion. Yes, all.
- 18:52The Halloween costumes, my God. God, Halloween costumes of them.
- 18:58I'll be Janelle. Oh my gosh, I don't even know
- 19:01who I would be. You can be Robyn.
- 19:03I can be merry because then I would be able to wear a fun wig.
- 19:07And you'd be able to burn the shit out of your hair
- 19:09straightening. Oh well, cuz you'd wear a wig.
- 19:11Yeah, and. Flip it.
- 19:12Oh. My gosh, so good.
- 19:15Fried dad and laid to the side. That's.
- 19:18Meri. Yep, that's Meri.
- 19:20We cut to the family celebrating Hanukkah, which I love because
- 19:25Kody, you know, he loves other cultures.
- 19:28He's a very cultured man. He's very worldly.
- 19:31That Kody Brown. He's been a lot of places, seen
- 19:34a lot of faces. Hell, he even fucks with
- 19:36different races. Just kidding.
- 19:37Gosh, it's so great because we're like, OK, so we're
- 19:40watching them, you know, light candles and sit around a table.
- 19:44And then there's like this Jewish Hebrew music playing,
- 19:48which is so amazing. Once again, they have to be
- 19:51doing the thing. And all I thought was we're
- 19:53missing the blonde chick from the Holiday Hoarder special, the
- 19:56one who was trying to fawn off on a con her the on her
- 20:00daughters. Yes, But you know, and Kody and
- 20:04all of his infinite wisdom has to let us know.
- 20:07I believe this is a direct quote.
- 20:09A remembering of the festival of dedication.
- 20:13Yeah, whatever the hell that meant.
- 20:15He didn't even know what he was saying.
- 20:17Right. And this is what I'm going like.
- 20:18What does that mean? No, he said like 5 words in a
- 20:21row trying to explain what he thought they were doing.
- 20:25Yeah he had. No, he had no fucking clue with
- 20:27right. Because like a remembering of
- 20:29the festival of dedication. Yeah, festival of dedication.
- 20:33What? I don't know what that means.
- 20:35You could tell he was confused as to what he was going to say.
- 20:39Yes, he just was talking out of his ass trying to make it seem
- 20:42OK that they were like appropriating another religion.
- 20:47Yes, yes. Holiday, yeah.
- 20:49Well, he does. He loves to like pull in another
- 20:51culture and have another. He likes to have a party.
- 20:54So you could also just say, I don't know, I really love to
- 20:56have a party. You don't have to say it's.
- 20:59Themed. It's a remembering of the
- 21:01festival of dedication now. By the way, please leave me a
- 21:05comment if I'm wrong. If if if really what it is is a
- 21:07remembrance of a festival of dedication.
- 21:10Beautiful. I honestly don't know.
- 21:12I just thought that maybe I would learn a little bit more
- 21:14about Hanukkah from the Brown family and turns out I think I
- 21:17learned less. I think I know less now than I
- 21:19did before this. Well, they were completely.
- 21:21Yeah, wrong. And Christine saying it's
- 21:25shining within yourself. Yes, this is to shine within
- 21:29ourselves. Like what?
- 21:31When they're lighting each other, they're passing the, the,
- 21:34the candle to light their own candles, right?
- 21:36So you're lighting all these lights.
- 21:38And Christine, let your light shine.
- 21:40Letting your light shine. What does that mean to you?
- 21:43To the children? Which was so great it might have
- 21:47been Isabel that said something like be nice.
- 21:50Like being nice. And.
- 21:51She was like, that's a great example of what letting your
- 21:54light shine means. And I'm like, Oh my God.
- 21:56I mean, I guess we're supposed to encourage the children, but
- 21:59could we maybe also point them in a direction that's not just
- 22:02being nice? And is that I don't know.
- 22:05I don't know. I don't think Hanukkah is about
- 22:07being nice. Not that it's not about being
- 22:08nice, but I just don't. I don't get it.
- 22:10I don't get it at all. They totally just used Hanukkah
- 22:13as the theme without even knowing what Hanukkah is and
- 22:18they just like did this weird lighting of their candles
- 22:21ceremony and not even a menorah or anything it was just.
- 22:25A lot of blue single candles, Yeah, with the Hanukkah music in
- 22:30the background. And I thought someone was going
- 22:32to bring out a dreidel and someone was going to start
- 22:35bringing, like, putting on the little hat on the top of the
- 22:37head. And I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 22:39no. Don't do it.
- 22:39Don't do it. Yeah.
- 22:41And then we get a quick cut to Christine wrapping gifts on her
- 22:44bed. This came out of nowhere.
- 22:46She's wrapping gifts on her bed. She says her and Kody are not
- 22:50working on their relationship. And I was like, OK, cool.
- 22:55Can we cut to the fact that they got into like a little argument
- 23:00about what they used to celebrate?
- 23:03They talk about how Christine's family used to celebrate Joseph
- 23:09Smith's birthday. Right.
- 23:11And Kody didn't like that because people think that, you
- 23:16know, they worship Joseph's Joseph Smith and their religion,
- 23:20that Mormons worship him. So he thought it was weird to
- 23:23celebrate his birthday, and he didn't want to do that anymore.
- 23:27So he broke her family tradition for her that she threw for
- 23:33everyone. It wasn't like she made all the
- 23:36other sister wives like get in and do it with her.
- 23:40No, it was like her own little thing that she did, but he
- 23:43didn't like it, so it stopped. Yeah.
- 23:45And she was like, you could tell when they cut to the interviewer
- 23:49that she was kind of heartbroken about it.
- 23:51And she was like, no, I really enjoyed doing that.
- 23:54That was. Weird.
- 23:55Yeah. I think Meri might have been the
- 23:56one that stood up for her a bit in the sense of being like,
- 23:59well, it was her family tradition and it was kind of
- 24:01like harmless or whatever, you know?
- 24:04But I can also see the perspective of being like, I
- 24:06don't really, it's weird because if it's just a family thing that
- 24:09you do, that's not necessarily advocating for anything, right?
- 24:13Like I know why you would be like if you are Mormon,
- 24:19particularly fundamentalist Mormon, being like, well, I
- 24:22don't need anybody else to be confused about what our faith
- 24:24is. You and I had discussions where
- 24:26we were like, are they Christian?
- 24:28And it's like, no, turns out they are like Jesus Christ of
- 24:31Latter Day Saints. Like they are Christian.
- 24:34So yeah. Then to celebrate the birth of
- 24:37some guy who found some tablets in a forest, like, obviously
- 24:40made-up bullshit. Which is it?
- 24:43All made of bullshit? Yes.
- 24:44But yeah, you know, it is weird. I don't know.
- 24:48I think it's weird, but part of me thinks that maybe the reason
- 24:51he wanted them to stop was because he didn't want that
- 24:56being shown on TV. But then why did they even bring
- 24:58it up? Yeah.
- 25:00That was weird. That is weird.
- 25:02It was like bringing attention to it and it didn't need.
- 25:04To It didn't need to be. Yeah.
- 25:06But it kind of goes to show in that moment too.
- 25:09Like Christine is saying that Kody and her aren't doing well
- 25:12while she's wrapping the gifts. And they did just have this
- 25:14like, weird interaction about him putting the kibosh on her
- 25:19family's holiday thing. So on their tradition, and Kody
- 25:24says Christina's changed a lot and we have a lot to work on.
- 25:29We have to work on our stuff, which that was put things so
- 25:32well. We have to work on our stuff
- 25:35well, doesn't everybody? Kody Brown And then we get to
- 25:38hear from Meri, which is always weird.
- 25:40Meri seems to always have an opinion about Christine and what
- 25:44Christine should be doing because Meri's been through the
- 25:47ringer with with Kody. She's had hard times with Kody.
- 25:50And you know, she says the only person that you can change is
- 25:54you. You can't make anybody.
- 25:56And she of course, she says it in her own stupid merry way
- 25:58where she's like, you know, you can't change nobody else no
- 26:00matter what. And it's like, OK, what you're
- 26:04saying is true, you know? Really, though, the only work
- 26:08you can really own is your work. That doesn't mean that you
- 26:12can't, as a couple, go in and address things together and
- 26:16unearth things together and work on things together.
- 26:20Yeah, and that you can't expect your partner to grow and learn.
- 26:24And if something's really bothering you that your partner
- 26:26does, they should be willing to reflect on that themselves and
- 26:31grow and learn with you. Yes.
- 26:33Yeah, it's very strange. And it always makes me think
- 26:36about how unhappy and alone Meri was for so many years.
- 26:42And she has this like rationale about her, this way of being
- 26:46like, well, I know, I know. What you need to do is, you
- 26:49know, the only person you're going to change Christine is
- 26:51you. You can't change Kody.
- 26:52So you need to make yourself happy.
- 26:53And it's like there's an element of truth to that.
- 26:56But also, you're a person who's going to live alone and
- 26:59miserable for a very long time because you are under the
- 27:03impression that Kody can't be changed.
- 27:06Kody's not going to change. And it's my responsibility to
- 27:08change myself. Yeah, but you're in a marriage.
- 27:11Like, it just doesn't work. And Meri totally does this
- 27:15projection thing where she thinks everyone else is supposed
- 27:17to know the same thing she knows, be on the same journey
- 27:19she is, you know, learn the same lessons she learns.
- 27:22And it's a bit like, OK, Meri, like not one thing with me.
- 27:26I have a complicated relationship with Meri.
- 27:29I'm not a fan. But then I find myself defending
- 27:32her a lot. So it's complicated.
- 27:34I have a complicated relationship with Barry Brown.
- 27:37Yes, so far I still like her. Yeah, I, I don't know, that
- 27:44could change. I've spent so much time putting
- 27:47her down but then giving her mustard seeds because I'm like
- 27:49Meri's right? Or Meri.
- 27:50I like Meri or like I feel bad for Meri.
- 27:52There's so many times where I feel bad for her.
- 27:54Like this family just runs of her over and it's ridiculous.
- 27:58Did you notice that during the meal too?
- 28:03Sorry to bring this up randomly, but during the meal that they
- 28:07are like having this nice meal and all these beautiful candles
- 28:11and they were eating off of paper plates.
- 28:13Girl, I have brought up, I know that this family loves a
- 28:17landfill. This family loves a landfill.
- 28:20And I've gotten some hate from listeners being like, you don't
- 28:22know what it's like to have all these people and whatever.
- 28:24And I'm like, I just don't think that that's the case.
- 28:27Like we're talking about a Hanukkah.
- 28:28You're eating a family meal to celebrate a holiday, and you're
- 28:31eating off of paper plates. Like this is supposed to be a
- 28:33nice thing. And then what do they do after
- 28:37their family meal though, Chris? What did they do?
- 28:40They take the opportunity to go caroling.
- 28:43Yes, Caroling. Unsolicited Caroling to the
- 28:46neighbors unsolicited. In the desert.
- 28:51Oh God. Now, luckily, the only people we
- 28:53see them harassing is the grandma lady neighbor from last
- 28:58season who was like, I'm going to tell your kids to stay off
- 29:01the street. And they're all like, we love
- 29:03this grandma lady. And it's like, OK, she's a bit
- 29:05of a like, old and young bag. Yeah.
- 29:09So they go over and she's like standing in the door, like, oh,
- 29:12and I'm like, I wonder how many benzos or how many drinks she's
- 29:15on. She's just like, this is great.
- 29:17And it's like, they're terrible. They're all off key.
- 29:19They're singing different songs. Yeah, they're not even actually
- 29:22caroling. It was like, what the fuck are
- 29:24you doing? If you're going to waste
- 29:25people's time and make them open their damn door and stare at you
- 29:29and listen to you for however long you're going to sing in
- 29:32their faces, you better be damn good at it or I'm slamming the
- 29:35door on your face. I'm sorry.
- 29:37We were all off key and it was very strange.
- 29:39It was so. Weird.
- 29:40It looked, felt a bit like a production bit, but like, why
- 29:44would you even do it? Like I would be like, no, we're
- 29:45not doing that. It's like very strange, very
- 29:47strange. So they go from doing Hanukkah
- 29:50to going to singing Christmas. Carols at the neighbor grandma's
- 29:54house, who's like now for every tooth I've missed, I've kicked a
- 29:57child in the tooth That was so bad, that was so bad.
- 30:02Pretend I said something funny there.
- 30:04Everybody OK. Tooth I'm missing I'm getting a
- 30:08child. The tooth.
- 30:11Oh no, I'm the tooth. Fairy now, yeah Grandma tooth
- 30:15kicker like good Lord not right, not right you're.
- 30:21Killing me over. Here, Bob Ross.
- 30:24Happy accidents. Happy accidents.
- 30:26Oh my God, now we're going to cut to the family going to a ski
- 30:30resort out of town to cut down their own Christmas tree.
- 30:33Oh. They love they love a live tree.
- 30:36Now this family loves a live tree.
- 30:37No hate on a live tree. No, my family never went to the
- 30:43ski resort and cut down a tree. But that's because I grew up
- 30:46like poor. And I don't know if being poor
- 30:49has anything to do with cutting down a tree, but it just seemed
- 30:51like a lot to do. Like my parents were like, we're
- 30:54setting up the same tree we set up every year with the blue
- 30:56lights and the whatever. Like that was my family
- 30:58Christmas. Yeah, we never had a real tree.
- 31:01Ever. And love my friends who are
- 31:04like, I've a real tree every year and I'm like, it smells
- 31:07great and you have to water it every day.
- 31:08Actually, I go to your house and water it because you're on
- 31:10vacation and the needles are everywhere.
- 31:13And then you ask me to help you throw it away and I'm like, why
- 31:15did you even get this? You're not even God.
- 31:17A tree in my house is my worst nightmare because we had a bunch
- 31:22of pine trees in our front yard. It was literally the man of my
- 31:25existence. Those pine needles were
- 31:28everywhere all the time. They get tracked into your car,
- 31:30they get tracked into your house, and you'll be walking
- 31:32barefoot through your own house that you vacuumed 100 times and
- 31:35get a dry pine needle jammed into your toe.
- 31:39And so I can't imagine bringing that into my house on purpose,
- 31:42but that's just me. Well, I don't think you should
- 31:44blame the tree, Honey. You're lying.
- 31:46You only vacuum 99 times and you needed to see it.
- 31:50But we cut all those trees down. Yeah, Because I was like.
- 31:53So easy to it yes that's I encourage cutting down those
- 31:57trees I. Cut those trees to the ground.
- 32:00I like that old lady from himself, Yeah, from Golden Girls
- 32:03who's like, cut down the tree. I don't want the tree.
- 32:06And it's like, OK, but it's really like, no big, old ugly
- 32:09pine trees. Get them, go bye bye.
- 32:11Yeah, they were Jack Pines too. And Jack Pines are sparse and
- 32:14ugly looking, so. Bye bye, bye bye bye, bye, bye
- 32:17bye. Bye teeth, bye.
- 32:20Bye. Bye pine trees, bye bye.
- 32:22Bye. Bye.
- 32:23I'm gonna kick you in the tooth and pull down your pine tree.
- 32:26My God. Ridiculous.
- 32:29So of course, you know, as they're going through this ski
- 32:32resort hillside, they find a tree and Christine says it's
- 32:36gorgeous. And I'm like Christine.
- 32:39She is such a like, I wish I was a theater girl.
- 32:43And it's like, God girl. Oh my God.
- 32:45She's just, she's a lot. I can't deal with Christine.
- 32:49I can't deal with Christine. Now they do cut down a tree.
- 32:53It takes several attempts. I feel like they were counting
- 32:56the chops. They were all the boys were
- 32:58getting a whack in there. All those boys were whacking.
- 33:01They were whacking. They totally were.
- 33:04They're whack. Well, at least Kody, Hunter and
- 33:07Logan, yeah, were whacking. Yep, they did get the tree to a
- 33:11point where Logan went and pushed it over.
- 33:13Or Hunter, one of the boys, yeah, pushed the tree over.
- 33:16And they were joking about how he pushed it in between two
- 33:20other trees instead of the direction back towards where
- 33:22they were, where it would have been easier.
- 33:24And then it was like missing a bunch of branches because it.
- 33:27So they're like dragging it out of there and then bringing it
- 33:30back to the car and it's like, oh, it's missing all of these
- 33:32branches and it looks a little like Charlie.
- 33:35Yeah. Charlie Brown's Christmas tree.
- 33:38Then we have a disturbance. Janelle tells us of a
- 33:41disturbance. She says I have a disturbance.
- 33:46I have a disturbance. And she's telling us that
- 33:49Gabriel said something to Garrison, and then Garrison said
- 33:52something to Gabriel, and then Gabriel punched Garrison in the
- 33:55face. And now Garrison has a bloody
- 33:57nose. And they cut to this footage of
- 33:59Garrison standing there with, like, blood dripping out of his
- 34:02nose. And it's like, okay, like, yeah,
- 34:05all right. So the boys are beating each
- 34:07other up and Janelle says this is the bane of my existence.
- 34:11These boys are always fighting. And I immediately thought of
- 34:14you, 'cause I was like, oh, Kimber's got two young boys and
- 34:17they are fighting and this is what happens.
- 34:20I grew up with two younger brothers.
- 34:21We were always fighting. This is what it is.
- 34:23I mean it, it's just constant fighting.
- 34:25It is. Yeah, I mean, the one Gabriel,
- 34:28the one that did the punch to the nose, Oh my gosh.
- 34:33He was seething. Yes, you could see he was like
- 34:36shaking and he was just standing.
- 34:38Back early, he was. So mad, Yeah.
- 34:41And it does make you wonder. Yeah.
- 34:42Like what was said, what is so important to this like little
- 34:46boy that he is that worked up right now?
- 34:50Well, it's like when I would try to physically harm my brother
- 34:53Tony, it's because he would follow me around like singing
- 34:55off key and like doing things to bother me.
- 34:58And I'd be like, he won't stop. And my mom's like, the only
- 35:00reason he does it is because it makes you upset.
- 35:02And I'm like. Well, no shit.
- 35:04That's I know, but like, why? Oh my God, Like what?
- 35:07What do you need a PhD to recognize that this is a
- 35:09problem? Like it's a problem.
- 35:11I try to separate the kids before it gets to that point,
- 35:15but then there's just days where it's like they're just at each
- 35:19other's throats. And my kids are little, so
- 35:21they're not to the point where they're, like, fully punching
- 35:24yet. But it's almost worse because,
- 35:26like, toys are involved, right? And it's like that corner of the
- 35:29car kept you the wrong way. And by golly, you could lose an
- 35:34eyeball. Well, I told you I I can't
- 35:36remember if I've shared this on the show, but my mom, my, my,
- 35:40I'm the oldest of three boys and my middle brother Tony still to
- 35:44this day shares the story about how he learned when to not piss
- 35:47my mom off because I took a hot wheel.
- 35:50My brother was tormenting me. I took a hot wheel and I threw
- 35:53it in his face and it hit like right next to his eye.
- 35:56And he went upstairs and told my mom and she was like, Oh my
- 35:58gosh, it's bleeding by his eye. He could have gone blind.
- 36:01I was like, good, I hope he goes blind.
- 36:03Like, what are you talking about?
- 36:04Like I was trying to harm. Like I was literally trying to
- 36:06hurt. I was trying to hurt.
- 36:07I was trying to fuck with his face.
- 36:08Like, Oh my God, he won't leave me alone.
- 36:10And she was like, he could have gone blind, you son of a bitch.
- 36:14And I started laughing because I was like 12.
- 36:16And I'm like, you're calling yourself a bitch.
- 36:19And she, because I was laughing, she slapped me across the face.
- 36:21And my brother was like, Oh my God.
- 36:24And that's when he learned to not laugh at my mom when she was
- 36:27mad. Yeah.
- 36:28And, you know, I look back at it now and it's a funny story.
- 36:31It was even a funny. I was laughing at the time like
- 36:33it was funny. Yeah.
- 36:35Oh my gosh, sometimes it's so funny when people get angry.
- 36:38And then also it's because you're a kid and that's an
- 36:41awkward situation, so you might be having just awkward laughter
- 36:45and then that makes it worse. Yes, Yeah, Yeah.
- 36:47Oh, yeah. We've talked about that, Yeah.
- 36:50And Gabe says, well, I was gently kicking Garrison.
- 36:54It's. Like gently kicking.
- 36:56I was gently kicking Garrison. Yeah, like, like what was gentle
- 37:00kicking? I love that the idea of gentle
- 37:03kicking. Not genome with your tootsies,
- 37:05yeah. Well, I was just tapping them on
- 37:07the toe. Yeah, like, right.
- 37:09Right. Gosh, so good, Love.
- 37:11A little violence between brothers.
- 37:13Not not all the time. I understand your mom and your
- 37:16but as someone who survived 2 younger brothers I can say that
- 37:19brother my brother violence can be OK.
- 37:22As long as mine figure out someday to stop using their
- 37:25heads as weapons, that would be. Great.
- 37:28My oldest digs his head into his little brother and like, like a
- 37:32dinosaur. Like, what are those dinosaurs
- 37:35that use their heads to like, headbutt each other?
- 37:38He does that and I'm like, let's protect our noggin a little bit,
- 37:41please. Sir, what are you doing?
- 37:43Eventually, he'll learn to use his his fists and his feet and
- 37:47Hot Wheels. Yes.
- 37:50Then we have Kody taking Isabel, Aurora, Brianna and Savannah to
- 37:56buy gifts for their moms and their designated gift
- 37:59recipients. So we learned that all of the
- 38:01kids pick one other kids name and get them a gift, which
- 38:05totally makes sense because when you have like 27,000 children,
- 38:08you know you can only get so many things.
- 38:11And while they're at the store, you know, it's a little bit like
- 38:15dad takes the daughters to the store.
- 38:17Like they might as well have had circus music playing in the
- 38:19background. And why the hell did he take him
- 38:21to like a Pier One Imports or some shit like that?
- 38:25One, but with even narrower aisles.
- 38:26Yeah, why were they not stores I?
- 38:29Know it's like he was like let's go to the overpriced Knick knack
- 38:33horde store. Yeah, to pick stuff for
- 38:35children, Other children. What?
- 38:38And Tarney. And for the moms and for the
- 38:40mom. And for the mom?
- 38:41But yeah, it was definitely like, why aren't you going to
- 38:43like Target or Kmart or something like that?
- 38:45Like the one girl picked out a globe.
- 38:48Person. And I was like, wait, like a
- 38:51tiny little globe figurine thing.
- 38:54And I was like, oh God. Well, we both got a chuckle out
- 38:57of one point where Kody picks up what looks to be 4 sealed little
- 39:02Baggies of potpourri esque things.
- 39:07Like these pouches of like potpourri that he's like getting
- 39:10and he holds up four of them and he's like, I think that they
- 39:13would like these or I hope that they would like these like.
- 39:17And we I think they're potpourri because he did smell them, but
- 39:20they look like shit. You just put in a bowl, right?
- 39:22Like on a table. And it's like, oh God, like is
- 39:26this really what you're getting your wives?
- 39:28Like what's happening you? Probably didn't even get a bowl
- 39:30for them to put the potpourri. In well, I'm sure they've got
- 39:32something like, yeah, they're like plastic serving plate,
- 39:36their paper plate from their dinner.
- 39:37I'll put some potpourri in my paper plate.
- 39:40Or put them in their underwear drawers.
- 39:41Oh, such a great gift. Now I have smelly nice
- 39:44underwear. Like what?
- 39:47Do people even use potpourri anymore?
- 39:49I feel like that's an old like thing that I know.
- 39:51No I don't. Way, way old.
- 39:53Yeah, like from before my time. Doesn't even smell good, ever.
- 39:57No, and it only smells for like a little bit, but whatever.
- 40:01So he's like eyeing these 4 bags of potpourri miscellaneous and
- 40:04whatnot for his wives. And it was classic like oh
- 40:08you're so dumb. Like just stop.
- 40:10Like don't do it. Don't do.
- 40:11It it was so cringy. At this point, we learned that
- 40:14the wives decided to get something for Kody together,
- 40:17that Christine and Robyn planned and executed this gift, but we
- 40:20don't know what the gift is, but they're working on something
- 40:23special for Kody Brown. And then we cut to everyone
- 40:27packing up bags and gifts to get ready to go to the Christmas
- 40:31rental. You know, the Brown chaos.
- 40:33Everyone's doing all their things, packing up their cars,
- 40:36getting things ready. The teenage boys at some point,
- 40:40Hunter and Logan specifically, maybe Peyton, go over to help
- 40:44Robyn pack because she's like, oh, I don't know what I can.
- 40:47I'm barely able to function. My name is Robyn.
- 40:52No, she has young children. She's a newborn.
- 40:55Yeah. You know, packing up a car to go
- 40:57to the Christmas rental. And mind you, they're in the
- 40:59same town. Why can't someone just go leave
- 41:01to pick up more paper plates if they're we?
- 41:04Have more paper plates and paper towels.
- 41:07Paper towels, more disposable products, and I love that
- 41:11because they probably don't use paper ones.
- 41:12They're probably like, no, I like the Styrofoam.
- 41:14Get me Styrofoam napkins, get me Styrofoam everything.
- 41:18Oh boy. Oh.
- 41:20My God, as these boys are helping Robyn with her whatnot,
- 41:24Meri, you know, lets us know that she was all alone as usual.
- 41:29And I thought it was funny because she's like putting all
- 41:32these totes in her car and she was being like workhorse Meri,
- 41:35like how she is. She's just like, I've got the
- 41:37totes ready, I've got the shit ready.
- 41:39She's packing up her car. She seems to be like a one
- 41:42person militia getting all the shit done.
- 41:44But full blown totes. Literally.
- 41:47Totes. It looks like she had packed in
- 41:49the back of the car. I'm like, what are you doing
- 41:51with full totes? I mean they are large family,
- 41:54but I was like what the hell is that?
- 41:57And see, Meri's got her one child, but Meri, I think, also
- 42:01likes to take ownership of a lot of things.
- 42:03So she's probably like, I've got all the decorations and I've got
- 42:06all this stuff. And it's like, Oh my God, Meri.
- 42:08I think she was packing the food too.
- 42:10She had like all the food going into her car it looked like.
- 42:13She had all, yeah, like the things of bottles of water and
- 42:16all that. So she had a bunch of shit that
- 42:18she was packing up and her whole thing was, you know, that she
- 42:21would have loved to have had some help like she would have
- 42:24had when they were all together, when they were all in one home.
- 42:27She also makes the comment that the reason that she doesn't have
- 42:31a bunch of help is because she doesn't have a bunch of her own
- 42:34kids to help move things for her.
- 42:36But aren't these all your kids? Aren't these like communal
- 42:40children? Right.
- 42:41Like, well, and it's there is an element of that where.
- 42:46OK, let's take a step back. Kody thinks, let me bring the
- 42:51teenage boys over to help Robyn. Does he think that about Meri?
- 42:55No. No, he definitely thought of it
- 42:57for Robyn and he even like said as he dropped the kids off
- 43:01there, he's like I brought the boys so I thought you could use
- 43:03some help. Like he says that to her and
- 43:06then he gets his little ass over to Meri and asks her when
- 43:10they're supposed to be leaving or something and she's like
- 43:13struggling to do stuff on her own and.
- 43:15Yep, Yep. Yeah.
- 43:17See, Meri's got to get it done no matter what, and she's always
- 43:20all alone. And that's Meri's struggle in
- 43:23life. Everyone arrives at the
- 43:26Christmas rental and their wives are deciding which rooms they
- 43:29want to have. And they're like, standing in
- 43:31the entryway. You know, the kids are running
- 43:33around the house being like, oh, God, look, there's a window air
- 43:36conditioner in this room. Like, oh, my God, on the beds,
- 43:39jumping on the beds. I said they needed to have a
- 43:42huge security deposit. Whoever owned that house, like
- 43:45my God. And Kody tries to jump in while
- 43:48the wives are discussing rooms because there's something about
- 43:50like Janelle's, like, you know, I like to get up early.
- 43:52I make noise. I don't, if I can be away from
- 43:54the other wives. It's like probably a respect
- 43:56thing. Like, I just don't want to
- 43:57disrupt people. They, like all, agree.
- 43:59And they're all like, yeah, well, because they've all
- 44:01everyone but Robyn's lived with Janelle.
- 44:02And I'm sure they're like, yeah, we're sick and tired of hearing
- 44:05you clanging pots and pans at 5:00 in the morning, which like,
- 44:07seriously. And so they're like, yeah,
- 44:09that's fine. And blah, blah, blah.
- 44:10And then there's something about the priMeri.
- 44:12There's two primaries, There's whatever.
- 44:13And Kody's trying to jump in to orchestrate.
- 44:17And the wives are like, we've got this Kody, like, stop.
- 44:20And he's like, I guess I just, you know, just got to take a
- 44:23step back. Right.
- 44:24Like let them pick the rooms that they want to stay in.
- 44:28Doesn't involve you. Yeah.
- 44:30And it looked like they were just going about the process,
- 44:32like discussing which rooms and whatever there.
- 44:34It didn't seem contentious. There didn't seem to be anything
- 44:36going on. No.
- 44:38But you know, Kody's got to step in and be the man and they're
- 44:41like, back down, little boy. Kody says they have the rental
- 44:46house for a week. And it's cute because then they
- 44:48cut to a shot of Janelle playing tennis with the kids outside.
- 44:52And she talks about how their family success has come from the
- 44:55kids being living in such a close proximity that they are
- 44:59like, actual siblings and not separated like a lot of other
- 45:03polygamist families. And that is a big part of their
- 45:07family Ness, was that they raised them all together in this
- 45:11house and that even though there are separate wives and separate
- 45:15residences within the home, that they literally were all together
- 45:19all the time acting as a family. I mean, it could be completely
- 45:23both ways, right? You could have that and have
- 45:26everybody having shared space and like, growing up together.
- 45:29Or you could be like, Nope, my separate wives means like these
- 45:32are separate families for me. Which is yeah, odd.
- 45:37And it seems like for them, I mean, and that was something
- 45:39when you and I were discussing previous seasons, even like the
- 45:43Janelle vibes, how she above all the other wives, at least in
- 45:47what she says. And I, I do think in her actions
- 45:52as well, has always put the family 1st.
- 45:55And so hearing her being outside playing tennis with the kids and
- 45:59having an interview moment where she's like, what really was
- 46:02successful for our family was that we acted as one unit as a
- 46:07family. And I think that's like a really
- 46:09important thing to her, to knowing who she is, to her
- 46:13history and her part in the family.
- 46:17There are points where I think she comes across as maybe a bit
- 46:20emotionally detached, non reactive, not caring.
- 46:24But when you boil it down like she's the one that's generally
- 46:28like family 1st 100% of the time, you know?
- 46:31I feel like she's the glue in that sense, like kind of the
- 46:35reminding, like force sometimes with that stuff.
- 46:40For sure, yeah. Now we get to start with Leon
- 46:45directing the Christmas Nativity play.
- 46:47It's. Going.
- 46:48So, well, it's going so well, absolutely.
- 46:52When running the rehearsals, Leon seems to be getting a
- 46:57little frustrated with how things are going.
- 47:01Yes. Imagine that now.
- 47:03Were you ever the director, producer of plays while you were
- 47:07a child? No, I was the star.
- 47:09No, you weren't the star. You were the star.
- 47:12Of the. Show of course you would have
- 47:15played the baby Jesus. Totally, I just imagine like
- 47:20having a little nativity thing set up and then like a hole to
- 47:25push my head up through so I could play the baby no matter
- 47:28how old I got. You're like 17 and your head
- 47:32pops up out of the Manger. Still the baby Jesus.
- 47:37Oh my God, I'm the. Star so good, it's so great
- 47:43'cause at one point after there's some discussion about
- 47:46lines or whatever and then they're all sitting around and
- 47:49Leon's like OK, anyone do you have any questions?
- 47:51And Peyton goes, why are we doing this?
- 47:54Why are? We doing this I.
- 47:56Was like, Oh my God, this is what it's like having siblings
- 48:00and trying. Now I'm sure you can imagine I
- 48:02was a director, producer as. A Oh yes of.
- 48:05Course, if you weren't going to play along, frustrations might
- 48:10have grown. You know, I might have been a
- 48:12little challenging to work with. I can only imagine it sounds
- 48:16like a young Oh my God putting on a show.
- 48:19Young me being like, no, no, no, no.
- 48:22Oh, boy. And Leon looks like, you know,
- 48:24they're ready to give up. And I completely understand.
- 48:27You know, they're like, why am I even doing this?
- 48:29It's like, yeah, well, why are you even doing this?
- 48:31But we all need our creative outlets, and I understand.
- 48:35Leon almost gave up for sure. Yeah, totally.
- 48:37Like what the fuck? And now we're gonna set up the
- 48:40tree. Tree the Tree Charlie Brown Tree
- 48:43the. Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
- 48:45Yeah, in the Christmas rental. Charlie Brown Tree for the
- 48:48Browns. Yes, yes.
- 48:50Logan is a senior in high school.
- 48:52They let us know. So they're showing Logan trying
- 48:55to put the lights at the top. And now mind you, this tree is.
- 48:58Sparse. Sparse.
- 48:59Very sparse, tall. So it's in like a two floor room
- 49:03or whatever and Logan's up on a ladder like trying to figure out
- 49:07how to get the lights all the way to the top.
- 49:08Tony cuts the top off. Didn't you notice Kody when you
- 49:11cut the very top of the tree off?
- 49:13He did, which is so great. And in the discussion about
- 49:17Logan being a senior, they start talking about how it might be
- 49:19his last Christmas with the family.
- 49:22And all the adults start talking about what it means for the
- 49:25other kids to be leaving so quickly in the sense of they had
- 49:29the 1st 5 like all kind of in a bunch.
- 49:31They were like the five, the first five, and now the first
- 49:34five are going to be moving on to different parts of their
- 49:37lives. I had a little bit of a feel, a
- 49:40little bit of a moment being like, oh, like being a parent
- 49:43and coming to that time of being like, Oh my gosh.
- 49:45Because also parents always say it goes so fast too.
- 49:48Like when you get to this point, all of a sudden you're like,
- 49:50what happened, you know? Yeah, then the mass exodus of
- 49:54that many kids at once and that many helping kids and able
- 49:59bodied older children. Everyone but Meri's going to
- 50:02miss them. Yeah, right.
- 50:04Oh my God. That's so terrible.
- 50:06That's so terrible. Yeah, They finally light the
- 50:09tree and it's a bit sad, but it's cute.
- 50:14It does end up being cute. I was actually shocked that I
- 50:17thought it looked cute because I was like, this is really
- 50:21awkward. First of all, it's not even the
- 50:22type of tree that would be a Christmas tree.
- 50:25It kind of reminded me of like a Jack pine, which are just like
- 50:28sparse and like, what in the hell are you doing it?
- 50:32Definitely didn't have the traditional, like, Christmas
- 50:34tree look, but when they lit it up and they had all the other,
- 50:38well, they turned all the lights off in the house and then turned
- 50:40on the tree and it was cute. It was like, oh, OK.
- 50:44Like if that was in my house, I would be like, look what US
- 50:46idiots did. Like, we did a good job, you
- 50:48know, Right? Good story.
- 50:50Yeah, good story. Maybe not a good picture, yeah,
- 50:54but a good story. And then we cut to Leon
- 50:57narrating the nativity play. Yeah, so it did come together.
- 51:01And they're all the kids are wearing like towels.
- 51:04And they're wearing towels, yeah.
- 51:06As their outfits, their costumes.
- 51:08One of the boys was a donkey and had Meri riding on the back of
- 51:13them. Yes, and.
- 51:15There was at one point, I don't remember what the voice over was
- 51:17or what was happening, but they show Gwendolyn coming in and
- 51:21she's like bouncing around and making crazy faces.
- 51:23And it's like, OK, so all the kids are acting their parts,
- 51:27which is beautiful. Kudos to Leon for being a
- 51:30successful director of a beautiful play, I'm sure.
- 51:33And of course, baby Solomon played Jesus.
- 51:35Baby Jesus, you must have been so jealous.
- 51:39Yeah, Oh my gosh. Like move over a newborn.
- 51:43Move over a newborn. This is a part for a real *.
- 51:47Yes. Who do you think you are?
- 51:50And this is a part, Kimber, where I had to, I was pondering,
- 51:54I had a question for you. Oh, yeah.
- 51:56How many wise men are in your nativity scene?
- 51:59Look, don't. No, I can't remember again
- 52:04because you just asked me out of nowhere.
- 52:06Yes. Now, the reason I'm bringing
- 52:08this up everyone is because earlier in the season Kimber was
- 52:12pulling out some of her Christmas decorations and she
- 52:15was like, oh, and look, here's the wise men with the baby
- 52:18Jesus. And I went over and looked and
- 52:20it was Meri and Joseph with the vein shirt.
- 52:23I was like, honey, There were three wise men.
- 52:26That's Meri and Joseph, God. And it was so funny.
- 52:30It was ridiculous because I also was raised very Catholic and
- 52:34went to church twice a week and was super into.
- 52:40Well, you said your Hail Meris. You said plenty of Hail Meris.
- 52:42You said plenty of Hail Meris, yes.
- 52:44You did, and so I got to chuckle out of your two wise men, and
- 52:48I'm not sure that I'll ever let that story go.
- 52:50Probably not. That's all right.
- 52:52That's on me. And now it's Christmas morning.
- 52:58Christmas morning. The gift exchange has begun and
- 53:02the kids are opening their gifts, which is wonderful.
- 53:05We do get one special gift that gets some attention from
- 53:09Savannah to Leon and we were we had we had to pause and go back
- 53:16to see what this really was. Yeah.
- 53:19It's a box. I don't know if it was a shoe
- 53:21box. It looked like a shoe box.
- 53:23Yeah. Shoe box type thing.
- 53:25And there was a drawing, a piece of paper taped on the top that
- 53:29had four houses and like the four quadrants, Yeah, with roads
- 53:33in the middle and some cars drawn on it and apparently some
- 53:38crap in the box. We don't know what was in the
- 53:41box. Like rocks or something, and
- 53:43when when Leon would shake it, it would make the noise of sound
- 53:48of cars going by on the road. And then driving from home to
- 53:52home, yes, so interesting symbolism for the family because
- 53:56they're in four separate homes, but they're still so close.
- 53:59They're just a car right away. I can't stand it.
- 54:02I can't stand I don't you were like to give.
- 54:05Her a box and I'm like I don't know.
- 54:07I hope they got Leon a real. Gift Well, let's on top of that,
- 54:12yes, because. What in.
- 54:14Come on, what in tarnation? In tarnation.
- 54:17That's not fair. Yeah.
- 54:19But see, Leon is wise and sophisticated.
- 54:22And so Leon's an older sibling and just supposed to take it and
- 54:26take this happy homemade gift from a little sibling and just
- 54:30like, eat it, OK? I know it's like 3 months later
- 54:33and Leon's like look what I got for Christmas.
- 54:35It's like rocking the box back and forth that it's like rocks
- 54:38making noise in a box. Like OK, as as a parent, that's
- 54:42cute, fine, let them give their homemade gift.
- 54:45But also, they better have spent some money on Leon and gotten a
- 54:49real gift because that is a little ridiculous for them to
- 54:53have gotten this box. Like come on, at least a pair of
- 54:57socks or something please. Yeah, it was.
- 55:00It was like, it's cute, but yeah, yeah.
- 55:04What are you do with some box of rocks?
- 55:06Right end up in the trash. Sorry, little girl.
- 55:09Yep. Sorry, Sorry Savannah, your gift
- 55:12is trash. Well, even with my my kids, I'm
- 55:16like, how long do I have to keep their art in quotations for like
- 55:20at this point in their life when they're like so young and
- 55:24they're gluing cotton balls on Santa Claus's face.
- 55:28And yeah, it's cute. I hang it up for the season.
- 55:30But I'm not the mom that's going to be like, I have 5 totes of
- 55:34all of my kids, things that they've made me over the years.
- 55:37I mean, yeah, yeah, some people are like that.
- 55:40Eventually you do have to throw away the crafts.
- 55:42I would assume. Yes.
- 55:45Kody gave Meri some jewelry. Wasn't quite sure what that was
- 55:49or what it meant, but there was some jewelry.
- 55:51I think it was a necklace of some sort.
- 55:53Some sort, some stones on that necklace.
- 55:57Kody gave Robyn a guitar. She's been wanting a guitar for
- 56:00like a decade. Yeah, apparently.
- 56:03You know what do your kids need a crib or do you need a guitar?
- 56:06Well, she said, she said neither I my kids can sleep on the floor
- 56:12and I can't play them any music. My baby Jesus can sleep inside
- 56:16of this guitar. Guitar case, The guitar case All
- 56:20in the guitar case. Perfect.
- 56:23Beautiful. It's a Christmas miracle.
- 56:26Kody gave Christine a ring. She said that she had pointed it
- 56:29out. She'd asked for that ring.
- 56:30It was very nice. Well, that's great.
- 56:33We don't get told what Janelle gets, do we?
- 56:36No, no. We don't.
- 56:38It doesn't even get pointed out at.
- 56:39All she got another box of rocks.
- 56:41She got a box of rocks as well. Janelle's like, well, as long as
- 56:45the family's happy. Yeah, she'd be totally fine with
- 56:48it. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:49Oh my gosh, lump of coal for Janelle for all she does.
- 56:53For all she does, yeah, she's the backbone of the family.
- 56:56Here's your lump of coal. Yep.
- 56:57She'll be like, oh, OK, don't worry, I can write on a
- 57:00chalkboard with that. The kids can play with it.
- 57:03We could use it for kindling when we go on our camping trips
- 57:08and need a burger. Yeah, she's like, I can cook my
- 57:11one piece of food that I have for myself with this one coal.
- 57:15She's like using it in the camper.
- 57:17In the future when she lives out on Coyote Pass, she's like, I'm
- 57:19keeping warm with my piece of coal.
- 57:22Oh God, Janelle, this is where we learn that the wives give
- 57:25Kody a gun. I don't even know what it means.
- 57:29I don't know anything about guns.
- 57:30It definitely was not a gun you just buy Willy nilly.
- 57:34So they must have scrimped and saved for this gun.
- 57:37It was a fun gun. It wasn't one that you'd go
- 57:41hunting with, it was one you'd go to the range with and.
- 57:45It looked like designer gun or something.
- 57:48That type of like, oh, OK, yeah, like you don't need that.
- 57:52Yeah, I grew up with plenty of gun in my house with my father
- 57:59and they were well taken care of and locked up.
- 58:03And so I appreciate that Kody does make sure he mentions that
- 58:07they have their guns, you know, in a safe spot and locked up and
- 58:11whatever. I'm like, good, you know, better
- 58:13with all those kids around. Jesus.
- 58:15He says that he takes gun safety very seriously and so do all of
- 58:19the wives. I was like, well thank God you
- 58:21clarified that. Well, yeah, because God forbid
- 58:23one of them decides to kill you all of a sudden.
- 58:25You better have the key to that Safe, Tony.
- 58:28Oh my God, I was just going to crack a joke about how it's
- 58:31always the people you want to have guns that have guns, but
- 58:33then I realized sometimes that is true, so I don't really know.
- 58:37Yeah, I mean. Guns are guns.
- 58:40I know. We won't get into that.
- 58:41I know I'm like I'm not anti gun, but I'm a little anti like
- 58:45I don't want a gun like well we'll see.
- 58:48I wouldn't mind doing guns training and like learning how
- 58:51to shoot a gun. Well, like, what if I could do
- 58:53that? I just scared everybody.
- 58:55I would I would go and do it with you.
- 58:57It's been a long time since I've shot a gun.
- 58:59Oh my gosh. I probably would just be really
- 59:01bad at aiming and this would be my whole thing.
- 59:03Like when thinking about defense for guns, like having a gun in
- 59:06the home. The reason that I've never been
- 59:08like I should do that is because I always feel like I would be
- 59:11the one that would be a statistic like I shot myself
- 59:15like. Foot or the kneecap.
- 59:17I capped my neck. I capped my damn self.
- 59:20I was trying to kick him in the tooth like it'd be a whole
- 59:23thing. I would.
- 59:24I would totally try to scare someone and then I'd end up
- 59:26shooting myself. And would be.
- 59:27Like wow, should I just let them take your precious jewelry?
- 59:31Well, yeah. And like the instance of like
- 59:35the chance of you getting shot by a gun go up because the gun
- 59:38is in your house, like the chance of an intruder getting
- 59:41the gun away from you are very, very high, right so.
- 59:45I wouldn't mind having a paintball gun, so I'm gonna give
- 59:47away my whole defense system here, which is a paintball gun.
- 59:50And I told this to someone once I was like, what if I just had a
- 59:53pellet gun or something that shot that isn't, like, deadly,
- 59:56right? And they were like, well, if it
- 59:58explodes, just make sure it's red so that if they see it and
- 1:00:01they think it's blood and they're shocked that they run.
- 1:00:03Yeah. And I was like, OK, so I did
- 1:00:05learn that. I don't know what that means,
- 1:00:08but you know. I had a marshmallow gun when I
- 1:00:10was a child and I shot my mom in the eye with it once, so that
- 1:00:13was really fun. I got in a lot of trouble for
- 1:00:15that. Did it have like a high like a
- 1:00:18little thingy that make? I don't even know what those are
- 1:00:21called though. It was made out of what are the
- 1:00:25white pipes? PVC it was made.
- 1:00:28Out of PVC, I got it like at a craft fair and it was like, you
- 1:00:32know, just like a punch to the thing you put the marshmallow in
- 1:00:35and you like. Punch it.
- 1:00:36It was almost like AI don't know, it reminded me of like a
- 1:00:39water gun type of thing that you pump.
- 1:00:42Yeah, shot my mom in the face with that and I was like a
- 1:00:44teenager at the time, so. You shot your mom in the face.
- 1:00:48With a marshmallow in the eye. This is going to become part of
- 1:00:52the lore. You know you shot your mom in
- 1:00:54the face. Yeah.
- 1:00:55OK. One tip, 1 safety tip.
- 1:00:58I saw that you have a bat. I do have a.
- 1:01:01Bat. Now I'm going to tell everybody
- 1:01:03out there, if you're not savvy in the protecting yourself,
- 1:01:08yeah, you have to put a sock on the end of your bat.
- 1:01:13Because if you go to hit somebody with the bat, they grab
- 1:01:16the bat from you and they can pull it back and get it away
- 1:01:18from you. But if you have a sock on the
- 1:01:20end of your bat, they go to grab the bat and the sock comes off
- 1:01:23and then you get a chance to really give them a good old
- 1:01:25whack. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:27So some good advice. That's my safety tip for
- 1:01:29everybody. One day when I get a third sock,
- 1:01:32I'm going to put it on the end of my back.
- 1:01:34When Dobby gets his sock, he'll put it on his back.
- 1:01:37I only have two socks right now. No one gave me any socks for
- 1:01:40Christmas. I know this is also where we get
- 1:01:45a special introduction to a part of Sister Wives culture.
- 1:01:49Now Sister Wives culture. Wow, that was a lot.
- 1:01:52My Sister Wives podcast is named lovingly after a store, a retail
- 1:02:00store started by Robyn or I'm not sure.
- 1:02:02I'm not sure we'd call it a store.
- 1:02:05My sister wives closet and this is the first time we get to see
- 1:02:10some of Robbins designs being given to the other wives.
- 1:02:14I believe it's a necklace. Necklace.
- 1:02:17With some charms, yes, of some sort.
- 1:02:20It looked big and cheap. Yeah.
- 1:02:25And so that's our first extra special glimpse into my sister
- 1:02:28wife's closet. Yeah, it looked like something
- 1:02:31that you would have gotten from Claire's, like a friendship
- 1:02:34necklace on like a one of those beaded chains that people also
- 1:02:38use for key chains or something. Like it just looked chintzy.
- 1:02:42It looked definitely not like something you spend hundreds of
- 1:02:45dollars on. No.
- 1:02:47Let alone 9995, which is probably what she was like.
- 1:02:50We can retail everything for 9995 and it's like honey, this
- 1:02:53is like $12.00 at the mall. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:02:57It's a big moment for us Sister Wives fans.
- 1:02:59We get our first Robyn jewelry in this episode.
- 1:03:03Season 4, Episode 1. Thank you, Robyn.
- 1:03:07Now we get one of those random cuts that this fucking
- 1:03:09production company loves to do where Kody and Christine are
- 1:03:12sitting in a bedroom that looks like it has like 2 twin beds or
- 1:03:15something. Like they're both sitting on a
- 1:03:16bed and Kody's like, am I? Am I out of the doghouse?
- 1:03:20And it's like, Oh my God. For this ring.
- 1:03:23Yes. And Christine's, you know, like,
- 1:03:26well, you come over as late as you can and you leave as early
- 1:03:28as you can. And it's like, Oh my God, like,
- 1:03:31oh, things are not going well. They are not communicating well.
- 1:03:35Even this little bit is totally rushed through.
- 1:03:37Like I was like, I didn't surmise anything from it other
- 1:03:40than they're not communicating well and they're not even hiding
- 1:03:44it. I kind of feel like he's just
- 1:03:46trying to brush over, brush through.
- 1:03:49I don't know if it's like if you would say minimizing her, but
- 1:03:52kind of like, oh, are we OK now and whatever.
- 1:03:56Yeah, that's for sure what he was doing.
- 1:03:57Like I bought you something that you wanted.
- 1:03:59That makes this better, right? Right.
- 1:04:01Total man thing. And meanwhile, she's like, no,
- 1:04:05like, we're not OK and things aren't good.
- 1:04:08But I didn't learn anything from this exchange.
- 1:04:09Was did anything stand out to you?
- 1:04:11No, I think it was just probably the producers trying to do a
- 1:04:14drawback to the beginning of the episode where they're struggling
- 1:04:17with their relationship, so they have to tie it up at the end
- 1:04:20that Nope, they're still struggling.
- 1:04:21They're still struggling like they have been from the
- 1:04:23beginning. Yes, and this was something too,
- 1:04:26with looking up stuff about Sister Wives.
- 1:04:28People say, oh, but after the third season, there's all these
- 1:04:32dull seasons and there's these things that not nothing matters.
- 1:04:36And then other people are saying, no, no, no, no.
- 1:04:38This is where you really get to see the shit falling apart.
- 1:04:42And so while we have seen and heard from Christine and others
- 1:04:45about the problems in their family, even in this episode,
- 1:04:49like Christine seems unhappy like the entire time.
- 1:04:53I mean, other than when she's being, you know, like it's hold
- 1:04:55of God, I'm being Christine. She's just like, I don't know.
- 1:04:58I'm not happy in my marriage. Things aren't going well.
- 1:05:01I'm I'm not who I used to be. You took my God damn holiday.
- 1:05:05Yeah, yeah, pissing me off. It's totally weird.
- 1:05:09And this is the thing about this show.
- 1:05:12It's like, so we're not going to actually dive into that.
- 1:05:15Like we're not going to really spend time on that in this
- 1:05:17episode. We're going to show all this
- 1:05:19other shit, but yet it's part of the episode, so it's kind of
- 1:05:23weird. And it is showing a little bit
- 1:05:25of the dissolution of the like, rose colored glasses, you know,
- 1:05:31that they put on the first few seasons.
- 1:05:33Like, I mean, they always touch on the problems in the marriages
- 1:05:37and how they have to work on their relationships and
- 1:05:40whatever. But I feel like this was very
- 1:05:43pointed of the producers to bring it back and like show this
- 1:05:46like kind of meaningless scene between them.
- 1:05:49They're trying to show the cracks.
- 1:05:52Yeah. I don't know.
- 1:05:54It's like they they're showing, but then they're not really
- 1:05:56telling, you know what I mean? Like they're not really giving
- 1:05:59us much. Yeah, that's.
- 1:06:00True. It's, it's a weird thing with
- 1:06:03the show because they're like painting this picture of a
- 1:06:07picture of this polygamist family and everything's great
- 1:06:12and everything's fine. And oh, sure, there's some
- 1:06:15struggles along the way and there's some bumps in the road.
- 1:06:17But look, we're having Christmas and it's like Meri was basically
- 1:06:22talking about how she's not supported and she has to do
- 1:06:24everything alone. Janelle got a lump of coal for
- 1:06:27Christmas. Christine's like, I'm unhappy
- 1:06:30and I've been unhappy and nothing's changing and it just
- 1:06:32doesn't seem to be getting any better.
- 1:06:34And Robyn's like, I got a guitar, like, you know,
- 1:06:38whatever. In her own little world, getting
- 1:06:40the men sent to her place to help her and.
- 1:06:43Yeah, yeah, yeah, extra special, Robyn and then Kody tells the
- 1:06:47family that they found property that they're interested in.
- 1:06:50Oh, and they'd like to get this property because then they could
- 1:06:53have 4 houses all by each other. So they all drive to the
- 1:06:57cul-de-sac option A, which we discussed earlier.
- 1:07:00They convoy to the cul-de-sac. They convoy to the cul-de-sac.
- 1:07:04Yes, they do. They're opening boxes.
- 1:07:06You don't really know what's going on.
- 1:07:07And then maybe Robyn says something about like, oh, we're
- 1:07:10getting some. These are some special kites.
- 1:07:12These aren't normal kites. These are special kites.
- 1:07:15They're white kites, like snowflakes.
- 1:07:18Yeah. Which and then when they took
- 1:07:21them out, I was like, oh, the kites are kind of cute because
- 1:07:23they were like the big snowflakes or whatever.
- 1:07:25They were like, you know. They were pretty, but then yeah,
- 1:07:28they have all of their kids flying the white kites through
- 1:07:31the cul-de-sac. Like they didn't even say that
- 1:07:34they purchased the property yet and they're getting these kids
- 1:07:37hopes up. This is something they do to
- 1:07:39these kids all the time. Over promise and like under
- 1:07:45deliver to these kids and make decisions for the betterment of
- 1:07:51the family, but they're not even full blown decisions or thought
- 1:07:55out processes yet. And the kids are getting like
- 1:07:59thrown into it and it's like, why do you get these kids hopes
- 1:08:03up? And they're like involvement in
- 1:08:06some of these things. It's just kind of inappropriate
- 1:08:10and weird to me. Like, oh, let's go fly these
- 1:08:13beautiful white kites by our potential new home spot.
- 1:08:18I mean, I feel like I wouldn't do something like that unless I
- 1:08:20owned the property. Right.
- 1:08:23I also grew up with a parent that was like, oh, I don't know,
- 1:08:26I've been looking at property by Lake Havasu in Arizona.
- 1:08:29I think it'd be kind of fun if we all moved there.
- 1:08:32Well then I'm in 3rd grade going to school, being like, we're
- 1:08:33going to move to Lake Havasu, which we never did because my
- 1:08:36parents still live in the same house.
- 1:08:38My dad doesn't change anything, They don't do anything.
- 1:08:41So it was like this talk of things, which is weird when
- 1:08:44you're too young to conceptualize that talking about
- 1:08:47a plan isn't the same as making enough steps happen where it's
- 1:08:51confirmed and it's concreted. It is weird.
- 1:08:55Yeah. And it also gives an element of,
- 1:08:57like, for the show, they get to have this moment of the kids
- 1:09:00running down the street with the kites and, like, hope and
- 1:09:03promise and look at all the unknown.
- 1:09:05What's going to be so beautiful? Yeah.
- 1:09:07Well, hopefully it fucking works out.
- 1:09:09Right. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:09:11As a kid, that was moved a lot when I was younger and not
- 1:09:14because my dad was in the military.
- 1:09:15Everyone always thinks that with how many times we moved, it is
- 1:09:18like devastating to move. And it's a lot of work.
- 1:09:22And they put these kids through it so many times and then try to
- 1:09:27try to sell it to them each time about how great it's going to be
- 1:09:30and wonderful. And then they're never happy.
- 1:09:33Nothing's ever perfect. It's like, oh, we're too far
- 1:09:36away from each other now. And we're, you know, it's like,
- 1:09:40Oh my. Gosh, well, it's the hottest
- 1:09:41heels of the last season or them moving to Vegas.
- 1:09:45And we were discussing this about season 3.
- 1:09:48The older children are clearly unhappy with things and like
- 1:09:53they're they've been picked up from their old life and
- 1:09:55everything they knew moved to a new city.
- 1:09:58Some of them do seem to be making some inroads.
- 1:10:01And things will change over this next season.
- 1:10:03And as we know, like people adapt and teenagers will make
- 1:10:06new friends and things will happen.
- 1:10:08But yeah, hot off the heels of moving them to this new town,
- 1:10:10they're all in different rentals, not living together,
- 1:10:13which they have for their entire life.
- 1:10:16Bring in this new woman, have a child with her, and everyone's
- 1:10:20supposed to be like, it's amazing.
- 1:10:22Solomon's amazing. Meanwhile, maybe they feel like
- 1:10:25that a little bit, but they don't have to feel like it's a
- 1:10:29solve for everything. Yeah, and they're allowed to be
- 1:10:32upset. Well, and now to be like, we're
- 1:10:34going to maybe move here like. And it might not be in the
- 1:10:37school district that you're supposed to be.
- 1:10:39Yeah. Like, those are decisions.
- 1:10:41Those are things that you should know when the school district
- 1:10:44thing came up. And they're like unsure of what
- 1:10:46school district it was in and if it's the one their kids are in.
- 1:10:49I'm like you idiots. Like I was still pregnant when
- 1:10:53we were looking at houses. And that's like the first thing
- 1:10:56that you ask is about the school district for your kids sake.
- 1:11:00Like it should be about that first and foremost, as opposed
- 1:11:03to like, I don't know. Yeah, like secondary or
- 1:11:07tertiary. Yeah, it's just weird.
- 1:11:09It'll be interesting to take note as we move forward the
- 1:11:12promise versus delivery on certain things because while
- 1:11:17Kody didn't say we're moving here next week, it's, you know,
- 1:11:22so I don't know that it was a promise, but that's not what
- 1:11:24it's like when you're a kid. Kids don't have a concept of
- 1:11:26time, so you're getting their hopes up over this thing that is
- 1:11:30still a complete farce at this point.
- 1:11:34It's a thing that you're, you know, dreaming about and hoping
- 1:11:37for, but it's not a picture in reality yet.
- 1:11:42Like, really? Yeah, but they're out there
- 1:11:44flying kites. Snowflake kites.
- 1:11:46And kids don't understand how long stuff like that takes to
- 1:11:48like build homes and what not too.
- 1:11:51And when did the vision change from them sharing one large home
- 1:11:57to the four separate homes? I think, yeah, in the last
- 1:11:59season when they were looking at properties, it became more
- 1:12:02apparent that having like a four unit dwelling in a city, it has
- 1:12:06to be zoned in a place where like it could be a town home
- 1:12:09situation and it has to look like townhomes.
- 1:12:11Like you can't have four dwellings where it looks like a
- 1:12:14single family residence. Like there's issues with that.
- 1:12:18So I think the finding the four homes also did satiate some of
- 1:12:22the wives wanting a little bit more autonomy and wanting to be
- 1:12:27more individual while also being next to each other.
- 1:12:29What's funny is we find out in the future that, for example,
- 1:12:33Meri and Janelle would be taking out the garbage on the
- 1:12:38cul-de-sac and they wouldn't even, like, acknowledge each
- 1:12:40other. Oh my gosh.
- 1:12:42So, yeah, you're close. But yeah, that doesn't, you
- 1:12:46know, there's all sorts of things.
- 1:12:47Yeah. They've romanticized the idea of
- 1:12:49having the four houses next to each other.
- 1:12:51And I can see why. I can see why you would want to
- 1:12:54do that in this situation. I don't know if it's like, why
- 1:12:57if they lived out of city limits, they could just build
- 1:12:59the property that they want, like a big fourplex house.
- 1:13:02Like, I don't really get that. And they don't really get too
- 1:13:04into the weeds about it. Yeah, but.
- 1:13:08I cannot even imagine sharing like in a huge home like that
- 1:13:12with all of the kids in one spot.
- 1:13:15There would be a lot of like, infighting and like, it would be
- 1:13:21chaos with the kids, I would think.
- 1:13:22Yeah, well, we talked about with the book in Becoming Sister
- 1:13:25Wives. And then I think maybe even in
- 1:13:27Christine's recent book talks of how when they were in the Lehigh
- 1:13:31home, how Meri had the like connecting unit where like you
- 1:13:35could go from Janelle's to Christine's through Meri's.
- 1:13:38And at some point she kind of just put her foot down and was
- 1:13:40like, I don't need my apartment to be the go through.
- 1:13:44And the back of the house was like it was a split level and a
- 1:13:46walkout. So it was like, just go outside
- 1:13:48to go from place to place. Well, it is Utah in the winter.
- 1:13:52Do you want to go outside to go from house to house?
- 1:13:53Probably not. But also like, well, why is Meri
- 1:13:57get to be pigeonholed the bitch? Because she doesn't want her
- 1:14:00apartment to function as a hallway for 12 kids to be
- 1:14:04running back and forth. I would hate it would drive me
- 1:14:06nuts. I would never be able to do
- 1:14:08that. So it's like, yeah, the there's
- 1:14:12never going to be the perfect solution.
- 1:14:14Kody does try to build the perfect solution in the future
- 1:14:17and they all find reasons to tear it apart basically, except
- 1:14:20for Janelle, because Janelle once again is family first.
- 1:14:24Family first. Yeah, Yep.
- 1:14:26So when they're wrapping up the episode, we do get a voice over
- 1:14:29from Kody talking about how he's looking forward to the next
- 1:14:32year. So, you know, it's holiday end.
- 1:14:34Great things are coming to the Brown family.
- 1:14:36White kites, white flags floating in the air.
- 1:14:40When you said white kites, I was like, Oh my God, what's she
- 1:14:42going to say? What's happening?
- 1:14:43Sounded a little like, oh God, what's happening?
- 1:14:45White kites. White Kites.
- 1:14:48I mean, it's a little like, and it's a little weird too, yeah,
- 1:14:51but. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:14:54So just like the Browns, we are going into a new year.
- 1:14:57It's a new year for us. It's a new year for the Browns.
- 1:15:00We will not be building 4 houses on a cul-de-sac.
- 1:15:02Why not? But maybe the Browns will be so
- 1:15:06darling. We're coming to the point of the
- 1:15:08episode where we do mustard seed and shit stain.
- 1:15:11Our highs and lows are Rose and Thorn of the episode.
- 1:15:14Now, do you have anybody that's speaking to you as a mustard
- 1:15:17seed or a shit stain in this episode?
- 1:15:19Because we can start with either one.
- 1:15:22Mustard seed would be Meri. OK, OK.
- 1:15:28Back in that car. By yourself.
- 1:15:30By her damn self. Being a boss bitch.
- 1:15:33Getting the work done, son without the sons.
- 1:15:37Yes. Without any sons.
- 1:15:38Absolutely. Yep.
- 1:15:40So your mustard seed is Meri. Totally deserving.
- 1:15:42I've given Meri a mustard seed to Meri, and sometimes
- 1:15:45begrudgingly because there are those episodes where I'm like
- 1:15:49fucking Meri, but then I'm like, gotta give it to Meri.
- 1:15:52I think my mustard seed this episode, I would say would go to
- 1:15:57Janelle because I do. It was a good reminder to chat
- 1:16:02with you about how Janelle always puts family 1st.
- 1:16:05And I liked that when they were in the rental, she was out
- 1:16:08playing tennis with the kids. Yeah.
- 1:16:10And we didn't see what she got for a gift, which probably means
- 1:16:14she didn't get a great gift I'm assuming.
- 1:16:16She got the potpourri. She got all four of the
- 1:16:18potpourri potions 4. Of them, one for each drawer in
- 1:16:21her dresser to make her knickers smell good.
- 1:16:23Oh, Janelle's knickers, Janelle's knickers smelling like
- 1:16:27potpourri. So I'm going to give my mustard
- 1:16:30seed to Janelle, which is not a common thing for me.
- 1:16:33I, you know, Janelle, I'll give it to Janelle for sure.
- 1:16:37Now shit stain. Shit stain is a whole other
- 1:16:40story. Now what do you think for shit
- 1:16:43stain? Oh boy, there's a few things in
- 1:16:46that episode that like just irked me.
- 1:16:51My shit stains got to go to Kody for the potpourri and taking
- 1:16:55those kids to that store, Like, what was he thinking?
- 1:16:59That was not a store to take kids to, to pick gifts out at.
- 1:17:03That was a very odd choice. It definitely was an odd choice.
- 1:17:07And of course Kody has received many a shit stains on this.
- 1:17:11I mean, he is a A smear. Yeah, he is a shit stain on
- 1:17:15society, as we all know. My shit stain.
- 1:17:20I think I'm going to give my shit stain to Christine because
- 1:17:25she does this thing where it's like I'm unhappy, things are
- 1:17:29terrible, blah blah blah. But I don't think she.
- 1:17:33I don't know if I can blame her for not having the vocabulary or
- 1:17:36I don't even know if it's a lack of vocabulary, but like she does
- 1:17:40that thing where she's like, I'm going to be OK, everything's
- 1:17:43fine. I'm Christine.
- 1:17:44She's very Disney Princess. Everything's great.
- 1:17:46When in all reality she's like tortured and miserable and
- 1:17:48whatever. I'm like, I don't know, girl.
- 1:17:50Like pick a lane. This one is a little tough for
- 1:17:54me and no one really stood out to me as too awful or too great.
- 1:17:57So an odd one for me, but I'm going to give my shit stained to
- 1:18:00Christine. Sorry, Christine.
- 1:18:02I mean, I would totally. If we weren't giving our shit
- 1:18:05stains to a person, my shit stain would be that gift.
- 1:18:07Oh yes you can. Horrible if you were giving my
- 1:18:11shit stain to Savannah, the little like 8 year old girl for
- 1:18:15giving her that gift. Girl, Oh my God.
- 1:18:19We have been known to give a mustard seed to a child.
- 1:18:22I don't know if we've given a shit stain to a child on this
- 1:18:24show yet. So there, there's there's room
- 1:18:26for that because that was a first.
- 1:18:29Our keep sweet moment this week comes to us from Azory.
