- 0:00Final segment here from ubs Serena, but involves Chris Daily, associated coach of
- 0:04the Huskies, after Yukon's win today over Saint John's And I'll start it.
- 0:08How about that defense today led by number ten? She was terrific, Nika.
- 0:14I think the kid you need. Drake made the first shot of the
- 0:17game with a bang shot, and I don't. She made one other bucket
- 0:20and Nico was terrific. And that start, I mean, that starts it
- 0:23because she, uh, Drake averages nineteen points a game. You let her
- 0:27get going early, you have a problem the whole game, and Nica just
- 0:30took her out of the game. We couldn't even think about taking giving Nico
- 0:33a breather in the first half, just because she was doing it, playing
- 0:36so well and really controlled the game defensively and conversely the offensive pace. You
- 0:41just kept trying to push pace and knocked some shots down early. They made
- 0:44a little run late first, but you kept at it and then off you
- 0:47went it. Yeah. You know, if you looked at the stats the
- 0:49first quarter SATs. If you're Saint John's and you shot seventy percent from the
- 0:53floor, sixty some from the three point line, you're still down six.
- 0:57I think you're concerned, like that's kind of an unbelievable statu you think if
- 1:00you're shooting seventy percent. But we created a lot of turnovers. I thought
- 1:04our defense was terrific. I thought our game plan was good. I thought
- 1:07that we executed the game plan. And that's been pretty much. I think
- 1:12the difference in some of you know, why we've played well the last few
- 1:15games, not counting Providence because we didn't really play great against them, But
- 1:19I think, you know, we've really locked into things, and I think
- 1:23everyone at each player has the better understanding of what we need them to do
- 1:27and what their teammates need them to do, and what are for us to
- 1:30have success. So I think we're building on that. And you mentioned the
- 1:34defense, it was it was as a unit, so being led by Nika.
- 1:38It was when the ball was picked up, everybody was in de Now.
- 1:42It wasn't like one loose link that ed, you know, let them
- 1:45get an easy escape. It just seemed that the rotation was there and they
- 1:48just locked in together. Well, we had made, you know, some
- 1:51decisions defensively that what we were willing to give up and what we weren't and
- 1:56we didn't want to put them on the free throw line. Thought we did
- 1:57a pretty good job with that. We didn't want to we wanted to win
- 2:00the rebounding battle, because the last two games we did not win the rebound
- 2:05rebounding battle, and we did that tonight. So I think overall, we
- 2:09came in and we just really set the tone early and the pace of the
- 2:14game. It's important for us to push the pace and for us to get
- 2:17out and create those opportunities people in our league packed the lane, and then
- 2:23for us to be able to kick it out and knock in some open threes.
- 2:24Untiday, we shot the ball better from the three, and I thought
- 2:28the threes came within ball movement, where the other day it felt like we
- 2:32were just shooting when because we were wide open, you know, and not
- 2:35that there's anything wrong with shooting when you're right open, but within the framework
- 2:39of what you're trying to get done. Changing the sides of the floor and
- 2:43creating mismatches and just making things difficult on the imposing defense. I think that's
- 2:49part of how we're gonna we're going to be successful. I think sometimes when
- 2:53a team wants to purposely slow it down, go to three second of the
- 2:55shack load. It can be hard to keep that temple up, but they
- 2:59had that. It didn't matter. They still you pushed it. Within two
- 3:01shots. They had the shot you wanted. They control the They try to
- 3:05control the tempo of the game because they ran the They run their stuff.
- 3:07I'll tell you what. He runs some great offense and they run it,
- 3:12and they run it for thirty seconds and they make you defend them all the
- 3:15way to the end of the thirty second clock, and it's difficult. And
- 3:20I thought today we kept our concentration and we really did a good job with
- 3:23that. So they that's one way you can control the pace of the game.
- 3:27You can control the pace of the game by running your offense for thirty
- 3:30seconds. You can control the pace of the game by pushing it the way
- 3:32we've tried to do and speed the game up. So we were able to
- 3:36speed the game up and create opportunities for ourselves. And a season, I
- 3:39sixty four percent for the field and it was nice to see Ice get off
- 3:43this night today. Yeah. From an offensive standpoint, well, you know,
- 3:46it's funny. We made a Saint John's is a good team and they
- 3:49just beat Marquette within their last two games. They so we made them look
- 3:53I think worse than they are, you know, I think we were The
- 3:57things that we did well made them look not as good. So feel really
- 4:02good about this. It's been a long trip. I mean, we had
- 4:04a long week last week, we had a long trip this weekend. We
- 4:08still have one more road game before we get a chance to come back to
- 4:11gamble. So we're gonna enjoy this one. Get on the bus, eat
- 4:14some New York style pizza, excellent, whatever. Well, you know what,
- 4:17I had a New York bagel yesterday. It was amazing. Oh my
- 4:21gosh, I haven't had a bagel in a long time. It was it
- 4:26was awesome. So we've had a lot. We've had a good time.
- 4:28The kids are getting ready to go back to school, and that certainly helps,
- 4:31you know, at least we'll know what day it is. Right now,
- 4:33we have no idea what day it is, you know, So we're
- 4:38looking forward to it. I'm happy for the players, looking forward to getting
- 4:41back home. And aren't you glad we're already done going to Omaha frigid there?
- 4:46Oh really? Oh yeah wow? Oh yeah, we lucked out,
- 4:50you know, I guess this year we're going to get cold weather no matter
- 4:54what. So we're supposed to get a storm Tuesday, heading into Wednesday,
- 4:57and we're heading down to Seaton Hall. And then I heard again next week
- 5:00Week, Friday and Saturday. So all the last three years are we've not
- 5:02had any snow. Now we're getting within the next two weeks. I will
- 5:05make up for it. We will, we will.
