Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Alright, alright, Doyle Alive from Philly. It's the Polly and
- 0:10Speaker 1: Tony Foolsco Show. Yo, as always, Polly Foolsco here with
- 0:16Speaker 1: Tony Foolsco and Tony Huge Show today. You know, first,
- 0:22Speaker 1: you know, people out there, they want us to comment
- 0:25Speaker 1: on the Phillies quote unquote loss to the Houston Astros
- 0:29Speaker 1: in the World Series. Yeah, don't worry people, We'll get
- 0:32Speaker 1: to that, all right, hold your horses. Yeah, we're also
- 0:35Speaker 1: gonna get into the Colts firing Frank Reich and hiring
- 0:39Speaker 1: Jeff Saturday, which, despite what all these idiot talking heads
- 0:43Speaker 1: out there, I want to tell you, is clearly a
- 0:45Speaker 1: very smart move, very smart. And on that note, we
- 0:50Speaker 1: have on our show today one of those talking heads
- 0:53Speaker 1: who apparently disagrees with us because he knows absolutely nothing
- 0:57Speaker 1: about head coaching in the NFL. Former Not Good jets
- 1:01Speaker 1: and Brown's head coach and now fs won NFL analyst
- 1:05Speaker 1: Eric Mangini jets and Brown's Wow, what a sparkling resume. Yeah, exactly. Well,
- 1:12Speaker 1: before we get in all that people, you know, our
- 1:14Speaker 1: long time listeners out there are millions of you. You know,
- 1:16Speaker 1: you're probably sitting there wondering why this show is suddenly
- 1:20Speaker 1: on a different podcast feed after we've been absolutely dominating
- 1:24Speaker 1: Philly Sports Talk for twenty three years and counting. As
- 1:27Speaker 1: you well know, well, h we have a huge announcement,
- 1:30Speaker 1: don't we don't it we should though we are here
- 1:35Speaker 1: had door announced after several months of tense negotiations that
- 1:39Speaker 1: we one hundred one we have arranged a partnership with
- 1:43Speaker 1: I Heart Radio, Premier Network, and Fox Sports Radio to
- 1:47Speaker 1: distribute this show right here. As they say in the business,
- 1:51Speaker 1: if you can't beat them, join them. And that's why
- 1:54Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio and I Heart have given in to
- 1:57Speaker 1: our many demands and partnered with us to gain access
- 2:01Speaker 1: to our huge audience. Yeah. Clearly they wanted to cash
- 2:05Speaker 1: in on Philly Sports right now because it's so hot
- 2:07Speaker 1: and obviously you know, we are the trusted and authenticated
- 2:10Speaker 1: voices of Philly sports for twenty three years and counting
- 2:13Speaker 1: almost twenty four. Yeah, we are one hundred percent originals.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Don't listen to those other phonies out there, yeah, exactly. Anyway,
- 2:21Speaker 1: now that we have an even more massive reach, companies
- 2:24Speaker 1: have been lightened up our phones seven, begging us to
- 2:28Speaker 1: do ad reads on this show, basically throwing money at us.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So luge sums of money. Yeah, huge. So right now
- 2:36Speaker 1: we're gonna do a little business and do an ad
- 2:38Speaker 1: read for our good friends at red Box. Do you
- 2:43Speaker 1: stream movies online? What do you lose a hermit or something? Yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 1: get out of the house, weirdo. Red Box available at
- 2:52Speaker 1: some CVS locations. All titles subject to availability. Okay, well,
- 2:57Speaker 1: now that we got that business out of the way, Tony,
- 2:59Speaker 1: it's time to get new top segment here. You know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: on other shows, the host they don't know anything about sports,
- 3:04Speaker 1: so they're constantly telling you what they got wrong. Not us.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We are always one percent on the money. So that's
- 3:11Speaker 1: why right now we're gonna do one of the most
- 3:13Speaker 1: populous segments where Polly and Tony were right? Where were right?
- 3:20Speaker 1: All right? First out of the gate, here we go.
- 3:22Speaker 1: You know a few idiots out there this week, Tony,
- 3:25Speaker 1: they're coming up to us and saying that was somehow
- 3:28Speaker 1: wrong because last week we said that the Phillies were
- 3:31Speaker 1: a lock to win the World Series. Well now they're saying, oh, well,
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Phillies lost quote unquote to the Astros. Hold on, people,
- 3:39Speaker 1: you'll do realize we're talking about the Houston Astros here
- 3:44Speaker 1: known Cheetahs. This series isn't close to over yet. You know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: we're only in the opening stage, is he? You know,
- 3:52Speaker 1: next spot comes the lawsuits, right then the trial. You know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: we have to carefully review all the film, all the
- 3:59Speaker 1: dugout foot and then litigate the entire series in a
- 4:02Speaker 1: court of law. It's the only fair thing to do, right, Tony. Absolutely,
- 4:08Speaker 1: As I recall, in the Rules of Baseball it clearly
- 4:11Speaker 1: says in Statue sixteen point four point five point seven
- 4:15Speaker 1: f B that if a team is suspected to be cheating,
- 4:19Speaker 1: that is enough to delay certifying the results of the
- 4:21Speaker 1: series until a proper investigation is completed. So until then,
- 4:27Speaker 1: trust us, the Phillies will win the series in a
- 4:30Speaker 1: court of law around the year seven. Great insight, Tony,
- 4:36Speaker 1: so valuable, and that the ego people, that's what we
- 4:39Speaker 1: call research. So until then you can quit your whinding.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Where Pauli and Tony were right. As we mentioned up
- 4:47Speaker 1: top earlier this week, the Colts fired head coach Frank Reich, who,
- 4:51Speaker 1: like most people, was good in Philly but sucked everywhere else.
- 4:55Speaker 1: But now that the cults, they rushed to hire a
- 4:58Speaker 1: new coach, and this somehow took a lot of people
- 5:00Speaker 1: by surprise, but not us. I mean the moment we
- 5:04Speaker 1: heard that the Courts were looking for a new coach,
- 5:06Speaker 1: Tony and I we turned to each other simultaneously and said, Jeff,
- 5:10Speaker 1: Jeff Saturday, we're going. You know, now, people, this this
- 5:14Speaker 1: is not a good higher because Jeff Saturday has zero
- 5:18Speaker 1: professional coaching experience. But that doesn't matter one bit, right Tony.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Of course, not think about it. When NFL teams draft
- 5:27Speaker 1: players out of college, do they have professional experience? If
- 5:32Speaker 1: you wanted all your players to have professional experience, then
- 5:36Speaker 1: you wouldn't ever be able to have any players. Great point, Tony.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And you know, even Jim Ersay, the owner of the Colts,
- 5:44Speaker 1: he agrees with us to He said this about Jeff Saturday.
- 5:48Speaker 1: This is what he said. I am glad he doesn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: have any NFL experience. I'm glad he hasn't learned the
- 5:56Speaker 1: fear that's in this league and has a real good
- 5:59Speaker 1: point here, doesn't eat Tony. Yeah, look at the most
- 6:02Speaker 1: dominant coaches right now. They're young, Nick Sirianni, Sean McVeigh,
- 6:08Speaker 1: Mark McDaniel. The old coaches like Bill Belichick and love E. Smith.
- 6:13Speaker 1: They're losing. Why Because they have too much experience, They
- 6:18Speaker 1: know way too many plays. It gets confusing for them
- 6:22Speaker 1: and their play is what you want is a coach
- 6:26Speaker 1: who doesn't know that many plays. Terrific analysis that Tony.
- 6:31Speaker 1: You know, in the NFL, you have to think fast.
- 6:33Speaker 1: That clock is ticking. And if you're thinking back to
- 6:36Speaker 1: all the many Super Bowls you've been in and all
- 6:38Speaker 1: the plays you ran and called, you're gonna be there
- 6:41Speaker 1: all day. Clock is gonna pick to zero. But if
- 6:44Speaker 1: you know you know just three or four plays, well,
- 6:46Speaker 1: then you can make those decisions much quicker. Yeah, too
- 6:50Speaker 1: many coaches overthink. Wouldn't it be better to have a
- 6:54Speaker 1: coach who underthinks so well? Said Dony. We're Pauli and Dony,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you were right. Finally, on the subject of Bill Belichick,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, we've said for years that he's a degenerate
- 7:06Speaker 1: cheatah and you know, people, it's taken a while here,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but Bill Belichick is finally admitting it. You know, the
- 7:13Speaker 1: other day he told reporters he said that opposing defenses
- 7:17Speaker 1: are jumping plays and reading his defenses do well, and
- 7:21Speaker 1: he's saying it's because the Patriots offensive players are tipping
- 7:25Speaker 1: the plays, making moves and giving away which play they're
- 7:28Speaker 1: gonna call. And Tony, this is a clear admission of
- 7:32Speaker 1: guilt by Bill Belichick, isn't it? Absolutely? Now, while it
- 7:37Speaker 1: might not sound to you like an open admission, we
- 7:40Speaker 1: have to rely on the principle of he who smelt
- 7:44Speaker 1: it felt it. If you extend that principle to football,
- 7:48Speaker 1: then he who smelt the cheating felt the cheating. Great point, Tony,
- 7:54Speaker 1: And you know this is just another sign that Bill
- 7:56Speaker 1: Belichick has been in the league way too long. He's
- 7:59Speaker 1: no longer good at his best skill cheating. Yeah, he's
- 8:03Speaker 1: getting out cheated by other teams. Clear sign that it's
- 8:08Speaker 1: time to hang it up. Well, speaking of Belichick, we
- 8:11Speaker 1: got one of his former assistants coming on the line
- 8:14Speaker 1: who worked for him in New England and also went
- 8:16Speaker 1: out the head coach. The Jets and Browns are the
- 8:19Speaker 1: very reputable football organizations there. Anyway, let's just go ahead
- 8:24Speaker 1: and bring him on the FUSCO satellite network. Alright, now,
- 8:30Speaker 1: our guessed on the line. Apparently he wants to educate
- 8:33Speaker 1: us about head coaching in the NFL, like he knows anything.
- 8:37Speaker 1: He's a former fired coach from both the Jets, in
- 8:40Speaker 1: two thousand eight and Browns, So that tells you everything. Now,
- 8:44Speaker 1: he does weekdays First Things First on Fox, which comes
- 8:48Speaker 1: on at three o'clock. Now for some reason then they
- 8:50Speaker 1: haven't even retitled the show, so who knows what's going
- 8:52Speaker 1: on there. Anyway, let's bring him in. Eric Mangini, Welcome
- 8:56Speaker 1: to the show. Uh it is. It is such an
- 9:00Speaker 1: honor to be here with you guys. I know this
- 9:02Speaker 1: is your your first show on a on a bigger
- 9:06Speaker 1: and a bigger stage, and you guys are technically it's
- 9:09Speaker 1: the same size you know them, Yeah, exactly. You like
- 9:16Speaker 1: the Eagles, you know what I mean. You're you're undefeated,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you're doing great things that I'm just so to be here. Wow,
- 9:24Speaker 1: what a great open. See that's how you be at
- 9:30Speaker 1: Thank you, Mr Main Yeah all right, so you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: let's look at the news. Eric, coach you'd like to
- 9:36Speaker 1: be called coach? Eric? What do you like to be called?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Whatever you guys feel comfortable with? All right, we'll do both,
- 9:42Speaker 1: all right. You know, people are up in arms over
- 9:44Speaker 1: the Colts hiring Jeff Saturday even though he has no
- 9:48Speaker 1: professional coaching experience. But don't you think that coaching experience
- 9:53Speaker 1: is overrated. Yeah, I mean absolutely, I totally think that way,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and I think that way about a lot of profession
- 10:00Speaker 1: You know, oftentimes I choose my doctors by how little
- 10:03Speaker 1: experience they have. Sarcastic started off. He started off with
- 10:10Speaker 1: that nice welcome, and he's behaving battle switch. You can
- 10:14Speaker 1: just tell us how you really think that if I
- 10:18Speaker 1: could be on the air with a couple of podcasts
- 10:20Speaker 1: very little experience in football, knowlogy? You know I always
- 10:23Speaker 1: embraced his name. Are you taking said anything? Yeah, well
- 10:27Speaker 1: the executives at Fox Sports Radio disagree with you. Yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 1: I think it's a good, good decision. It's a good decision. Okay,
- 10:35Speaker 1: the gloves are off, alright, but hold on, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I can tell you being sarchistic, but you know, teams
- 10:40Speaker 1: draft players out of college all the time. I have
- 10:43Speaker 1: no professional experience, So why can't get coaches without professional experience?
- 10:48Speaker 1: Isn't that why the double standard? Well, typically those guys
- 10:53Speaker 1: so have played college football, so so they have that
- 10:56Speaker 1: that basis. And and look with Jeff, he played for
- 10:59Speaker 1: a long time, and there's been some other examples of
- 11:01Speaker 1: guys going from from the broadcast booth to coaching. I
- 11:06Speaker 1: would think that either one of you two guys. If
- 11:09Speaker 1: how Howie Roseman ever leaves, could probably take over the Eagles,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you know, with your wealth of experience. So this guy
- 11:16Speaker 1: thinks he's at the last Lasset boulevard over there. No,
- 11:24Speaker 1: but guess what we could do the job he's doing.
- 11:27Speaker 1: He's got to be a comic because head coaching didn't
- 11:29Speaker 1: work out. Yeah, exactly, he's opening up for Carrot Top.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I think I'm going to buy podcasting Brian Heart Radio.
- 11:39Speaker 1: That's my next. Now on the line with Galagha, I mean, hey,
- 11:43Speaker 1: don't forget to take your waitress seriously, please, let's get serious.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Don't you think there is something you know? Jim Marrisay
- 11:52Speaker 1: said that it's bad for coaches to have too much experience.
- 11:56Speaker 1: You know, they become scared in this league after a
- 11:59Speaker 1: few years, And frankly, you know, we looked at your history.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Doesn't that seem to apply to you, Like, you know,
- 12:04Speaker 1: when you were coaching the Browns that season it was terrible?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Was that because you were scared of making all the
- 12:10Speaker 1: same mistakes that you made with the Jets. Yeah, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you do get scared in situations like that. I remember
- 12:15Speaker 1: when we were beating the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
- 12:18Speaker 1: You know, there were moments where we were scared. Oh,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you're going back to the time the pain. I'm just
- 12:22Speaker 1: saying specifically, we were talking about the Browns. You a
- 12:30Speaker 1: super bowler quarterback Jake the lawn, and then you didn't
- 12:33Speaker 1: do anything with him because you were scared. Okay. I
- 12:37Speaker 1: think it's I think it's one of those situations where
- 12:39Speaker 1: you can get into a little bit of group think
- 12:42Speaker 1: because you've been in the industry for a long time
- 12:44Speaker 1: and that there's some value with bringing new ideas in,
- 12:47Speaker 1: fresh perspectives in And I think it's a lot like
- 12:51Speaker 1: like broadcasting sometimes people who have no ability to comment
- 12:56Speaker 1: on the quality of coaches. Again, he's going off tangent.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Come out, come out and make a good point every
- 13:03Speaker 1: now and many writers because it's clearly not enough, it's
- 13:07Speaker 1: clearly not exactly alright. Before we wrap your set here,
- 13:13Speaker 1: you know, we'll give you another chance to get things right.
- 13:16Speaker 1: You know you you did as you wanted to, shoeing
- 13:18Speaker 1: into the conversation. You were on the Patriots when they
- 13:21Speaker 1: won those Super Bowls, which you apparently want to take
- 13:23Speaker 1: credit for, even though you deserve about point zero to
- 13:26Speaker 1: a percent of it. But you know, uh, Bill Belichick
- 13:29Speaker 1: admitted that defenses are picking up on his plays because
- 13:32Speaker 1: the players are tipping them. But Tony, Tony, tell him
- 13:35Speaker 1: your perspective, You're a very smart perspective. Listen to this, coach, Eric.
- 13:39Speaker 1: If we follow the principle of he who smelt it
- 13:44Speaker 1: dealt it, then we have to surmise that he who
- 13:48Speaker 1: smelt the cheating the cheating. Isn't this an admission to
- 13:53Speaker 1: guilt from Bill Belichick? Yeah? Again, another great point by you, guys,
- 13:59Speaker 1: um and and insightful too. I don't I don't think
- 14:03Speaker 1: that's necessarily the case he's talking about. He's talking about
- 14:08Speaker 1: his team and something they're doing, and the the the
- 14:12Speaker 1: idea that maybe they're being too predictable, and and I
- 14:16Speaker 1: don't think he's addressing it from a cheating perspective. I
- 14:19Speaker 1: think he's addressing it from a we need to do
- 14:21Speaker 1: at your very predictably. Are you? Are you asked? You
- 14:29Speaker 1: want him to hire you back? There's nothing I'm not
- 14:33Speaker 1: sticking up for anybody. I'm trying to give you some
- 14:36Speaker 1: insight into what I think he's trying to share their Okay,
- 14:40Speaker 1: you know what, let me this is the worst on
- 14:45Speaker 1: the show and I smelled how bad you? Uh? And
- 14:48Speaker 1: now I'm gonna, you know, start over. Is he off
- 15:07Speaker 1: the line? Jay, hang up the phone. You know that's
- 15:10Speaker 1: what they call in the business. A terrible booking. Should
- 15:12Speaker 1: have never been on the show. Horrible. Yeah, absolutely terrible
- 15:16Speaker 1: way for Fox Sports Radio to start off their partnership
- 15:19Speaker 1: with us. But you know, we're gonna need to talk
- 15:21Speaker 1: to somebody about getting better guests. You know, it was
- 15:24Speaker 1: a great show otherwise by us, So let's go out
- 15:27Speaker 1: on a positive note. Then, of course, thank our good
- 15:29Speaker 1: friends who have paid huge numbers for that ad read
- 15:32Speaker 1: our friends at red Box. Yeah, you know someone who
- 15:38Speaker 1: isn't tough friends, producer Jay? What corrections? What look? Number one?
- 15:46Speaker 1: You said, there's a baseball statute that says the MLB
- 15:50Speaker 1: can't certify the World Series if the Astros are suspected
- 15:52Speaker 1: of cheating. Yeah, yeah, trust me, no rule like that
- 15:58Speaker 1: has ever existed. Oh yeah, well I wish you never existed. Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I'd like to rule you out of planet Earth. Yeah,
- 16:10Speaker 1: that's it. Normal. Second, what you said, older, more experienced
- 16:15Speaker 1: coaches in the NFL are losing Yeah, the dinosaurs, Yeah, embarrassing. No,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Bill Belichick has a winning record this season, and Pete
- 16:25Speaker 1: Carroll is seventy and has the Seahawks in the first place.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You guys are just way off again. Oh yeah, well
- 16:34Speaker 1: I hope you drive way off a cliff. Yeah, I'm
- 16:38Speaker 1: going to rip your head way off. Yeah. What of
- 16:46Speaker 1: that other thing up you called the Dolphins coach Mark McDaniel. Yeah, no,
- 16:54Speaker 1: his name is Mike McDaniel, not Mark. Oh yeah, will
- 17:00Speaker 1: mark my words, I'm going to beat you. Yeah, I'm
- 17:05Speaker 1: going to leave a huge mark on your forehead when
- 17:09Speaker 1: we're done. Now, terrific. He's dead. He's as dead as
- 17:15Speaker 1: looks with experience. Yeah, he's like an NFL head coach
- 17:19Speaker 1: who's been in the league too long. Scar Alright, well, look,
- 17:23Speaker 1: here's a positive note to go out on. Tony just
- 17:26Speaker 1: booked for our next show. Looks like Fox Sports Radio
- 17:28Speaker 1: got the memo booked on the show next week. Super
- 17:32Speaker 1: Bowl hero Eagles legend Nick fallsway to that. Until then, remember, subscribe.
- 17:39Speaker 1: You know we got all our huge social platform subscribe
- 17:42Speaker 1: on them all. Ticktock Instagram. We're huge everywhere and Tony,
- 17:47Speaker 1: great job as always, same to you pay another foolish show.
- 17:53Speaker 1: There you go. We'll see if people next week, see
- 17:55Speaker 1: you
