- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey friends, before we get started, this is a Girls
- 0:02Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark Rewind episode, which means you're about to hear
- 0:05Speaker 1: us revisit an episode we've already aired. Maybe the movie
- 0:08Speaker 1: is airing again, maybe we just loved this episode that much.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Either way, we think it's worth another listen. Enjoy! Welcome
- 0:26Speaker 1: to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark Review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy. I'm
- 0:33Speaker 1: a former Hallmark hater. Today we're discussing Pumpkin Pie Wars
- 0:37Speaker 1: as part of our fall fan favorite movie review series.
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's the podcast over, and you still want more Megan
- 0:46Speaker 1: and Wendy, please follow us on Instagram, girlsgonehallmark. Calling all Hallmark.com.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Facebook fans, jump into our Facebook group. I was wondering
- 0:55Speaker 1: if people are like, another Facebook group. Actually, I feel
- 0:58Speaker 1: like that Facebook group over there, they are invested. They
- 1:02Speaker 1: watch all the movies. It's a really high quality Facebook group.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's not just like posting memes. People say thoughtful things.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What I love about this group too is last weekend
- 1:13Speaker 1: there was two Hallmark movies. Yes. A Friday and a Saturday. Okay.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We chose to watch one here to review for the podcast. Yes.
- 1:20Speaker 1: What I love is that the group is talking about
- 1:23Speaker 1: the other movie amongst themselves. Love it. And I was like,
- 1:26Speaker 1: I think I have to watch that movie now. I know.
- 1:28Speaker 1: We're going to just jump right into Pumpkin Pie Wars here.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Let's hear a synopsis. Okay. It's a long one. I
- 1:34Speaker 1: pulled it from Hallmark. Are you ready? Ten years ago,
- 1:39Speaker 1: Faye and Lydia each opened their own bakeries after a
- 1:42Speaker 1: personal and professional fallout during a local pumpkin pie contest.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Now their children, Casey and Sam, are set to carry
- 1:52Speaker 1: out the rivalry as they go head to head in
- 1:55Speaker 1: the same contest. The only problem for these two people
- 1:58Speaker 1: who are supposed to hate each other, they start to
- 2:01Speaker 1: fall in love. Oh my gosh. It is a complicated
- 2:04Speaker 1: synopsis for a story that is a little bit complicated.
- 2:07Speaker 1: You think it's complicated? It had a lot of moving parts. Okay, fair.
- 2:12Speaker 1: This movie originally premiered on October 15th, 2016. Have you
- 2:20Speaker 1: seen this movie before? Never. No. I know your husband
- 2:24Speaker 1: likes to watch the fall movies. He watched this with
- 2:26Speaker 1: me last night. Had he seen it before? No. Did
- 2:29Speaker 1: he enjoy it? No. Really? When I think about your husband,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I think that he likes the Hallmark movies of yore.
- 2:41Speaker 1: He does. He had some complaints. Oh. Are you willing
- 2:44Speaker 1: to share them? Sure. Okay. Okay. This movie stars Julie Gonzalo.
- 2:49Speaker 1: She plays Casey. She has 48 acting credits, including the
- 2:53Speaker 1: upcoming three bed, two bath, one ghost, which I cannot
- 2:57Speaker 1: wait to watch. Me too. I think it looks great. Fan-freaking-tastic.
- 3:01Speaker 1: She was also recently in Cut Color Murder, Jingle Bell Bride,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Flip That Romance, and Falling for Vermont. And I would
- 3:10Speaker 1: like to add a side note here. Several listeners have
- 3:13Speaker 1: DM'd us about not reviewing Falling for Vermont in our
- 3:18Speaker 1: fan-favorite lineup here. Yes. And honestly, I think the only
- 3:23Speaker 1: reason we didn't choose that one is because they both
- 3:25Speaker 1: starred Julie Gonzalo. And we're like, well, let's just pick
- 3:28Speaker 1: this one. Oh, they DM'd us asking, like, why we
- 3:33Speaker 1: weren't not to do it, but they wanted it done.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They were like, why are you doing Falling for Vermont?
- 3:37Speaker 1: It's such a good movie. There's only so many weeks
- 3:41Speaker 1: in September and October, y'all. Maybe next year. Maybe next year.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Jingle Bell Bride has the distinction of being the very
- 3:46Speaker 1: first review ever done for Girls Gone Homework. I was
- 3:48Speaker 1: trying to remember if that was it. You read my notes.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It was there. Megan thinks she's funny with the backstory
- 3:54Speaker 1: here that she did the notes for this movie like
- 3:58Speaker 1: a week ago and I had forgotten and did my
- 4:00Speaker 1: own and shared them with her. And so I'm old.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I also, this, can I add this? Julie
- 4:10Speaker 1: Gonzalo also starred in A Cinderella Story from 2004. A
- 4:15Speaker 1: movie I really like. Is that a Lizzie McGuire Cinderella story? No,
- 4:19Speaker 1: Chad Michael Murray. And yeah, I guess it is Lizzie McGuire.
- 4:22Speaker 1: What's her real name? Hilarita. Yes. I love that movie.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I've never seen it. What? You should watch it. Okay.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I like it. Also, she was in a movie that
- 4:33Speaker 1: cemented my hate for Christmas movies. Okay. And it is
- 4:38Speaker 1: called Christmas with the Cranks. I saw it in the
- 4:41Speaker 1: movie theater. Theater. Who am I? I remember City. This
- 4:46Speaker 1: was from 2004 or 2. And I was like, ugh,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I hate this movie. I hate Christmas. What am I
- 4:52Speaker 1: doing here? Have you ever seen that movie? Oh, yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It's terrible. Have you ever seen that movie? Oh, yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It's terrible. I don't enjoy it. It's terrible. I read
- 5:03Speaker 1: the book. The book is sad. There's a book? It's
- 5:06Speaker 1: called Skipping Christmas. Oh, God. And then they made the movie,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and I feel like changing the title to Christmas with
- 5:12Speaker 1: the Cranks just tells you everything you need to know
- 5:14Speaker 1: about the movie. She plays the daughter of Tim Allen
- 5:18Speaker 1: and Jamie Lee Curtis in this movie? Yeah. Anyway, Tim Allen,
- 5:21Speaker 1: why are you doing a Christmas movie outside of the
- 5:24Speaker 1: Santa Claus? That should be in your contract. Okay. Moving on.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Rico Aragon, formerly known as Eric Aragon, plays Sam. He
- 5:33Speaker 1: has 34 acting credits, but it looks like this movie
- 5:36Speaker 1: was his last role for Hallmark. Have you seen a
- 5:38Speaker 1: recent photo of this man? He looks so different. zowie
- 5:43Speaker 1: alert wowie zowie alert yes i saw it on his
- 5:47Speaker 1: imdb oh my gosh i went through his instagram yesterday
- 5:50Speaker 1: like a freaking stalker he has a beautiful family and
- 5:54Speaker 1: he is on the right side of things if you
- 5:56Speaker 1: know what i mean no the left side of things
- 6:00Speaker 1: he's on the left side of things if you know
- 6:01Speaker 1: what i mean smoking hot this movie was written by
- 6:05Speaker 1: nina weinman she has 31 writing credits including the recent
- 6:09Speaker 1: napa ever after just one kiss which reminded me much
- 6:13Speaker 1: I loved that movie. Yeah. And also Flip That Romance,
- 6:16Speaker 1: which also starred Julie Gonzalo. And Tyler Hines, I think, right?
- 6:21Speaker 1: I've never seen Flip That Romance. Oh, boy. Stephen R.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Monroe directed. He has 56 other directing credits, including Hallmark's
- 6:28Speaker 1: Caribbean Summer, A Winter Getaway, and USS Christmas. Michelle Scarabelli,
- 6:35Speaker 1: she plays Casey's mom, Faye. And Jennifer Juniper Angeli plays
- 6:40Speaker 1: Sam's mom, Lydia. I just thought they needed to be noted.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I didn't look up their specific... Did you? For this movie?
- 6:47Speaker 1: I looked up something else about them. We'll discuss later. Oh, okay.
- 6:51Speaker 1: The IMD readings for this movie are 6.6 out of
- 6:54Speaker 1: 10 average. I read a number of the reviews, and
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you right now, I was surprised
- 7:01Speaker 1: by some of the glowing reviews this movie received, and
- 7:04Speaker 1: it made me feel like Pickens must have been slim
- 7:07Speaker 1: in 2016. Oh, maybe. Are you ready for first impressions?
- 7:11Speaker 1: Are you telling me you didn't like this movie? Oh,
- 7:14Speaker 1: my God. What is your first impression? I want to
- 7:16Speaker 1: bake some pumpkin bread. Oh, my gosh. Megan made this?
- 7:20Speaker 1: Some bomb banana bread last week when I was over here.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I almost made it again today. I just ran out
- 7:25Speaker 1: of time this morning. And then I was last night
- 7:27Speaker 1: watching this. I'm like, maybe I'll make pumpkin bread instead.
- 7:29Speaker 1: With that streusel that you put on top. You want
- 7:33Speaker 1: the streusel on the pumpkin bread too? Oh, so good.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So good. My first impression is, please put me out
- 7:40Speaker 1: of my misery if I ever act like Faye or Lydia.
- 7:44Speaker 1: For 10 years? 10 years. I was like, let it go.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Let it go. I was trying to think. I was like, okay,
- 7:49Speaker 1: two women who are competing against each other. I was like,
- 7:52Speaker 1: could I apply this to my life at all? Mean you.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And I was like, no, because we're not technically competing
- 7:57Speaker 1: against each other here. But if you launched your own
- 7:59Speaker 1: Hallmark podcast, how long are you going to be mad?
- 8:02Speaker 1: How long if we launch competing podcasts, how long are
- 8:05Speaker 1: you going to be mad about that? Not very long.
- 8:07Speaker 1: We run into each other on the streets and they'll
- 8:09Speaker 1: be like, oh, you. No, never. If I saw you
- 8:12Speaker 1: in Target, I would turn and walk the other way.
- 8:13Speaker 1: That's how I handle it. Don't you ever run into
- 8:17Speaker 1: someone that you don't want to see and you turn
- 8:19Speaker 1: and walk the other way? Yes, always. I'd probably do that.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I don't like to make small chit chat with people
- 8:24Speaker 1: I see in the streets. Unless you're a listener of
- 8:26Speaker 1: the podcast, please come up. Oh, absolutely. Anytime. Talk your
- 8:29Speaker 1: ear off. Anytime. Yeah. Look, I'm so conflict averse that
- 8:34Speaker 1: I would just be like, I would, I just don't
- 8:36Speaker 1: hold it on to it for that long. Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 1: But these women were miserable. No, please. Somebody. Somebody. Like
- 8:46Speaker 1: if I ever acted that way, right? Oh, gross. I'm
- 8:49Speaker 1: going to answer your question right now. Okay. I struggled
- 8:54Speaker 1: to come up with things that I liked about this
- 8:56Speaker 1: movie because watching it, it just felt like background noise.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Now let me set the scene for you just so
- 9:03Speaker 1: everyone's really clear. Yesterday I watched two Hallmark movies. In
- 9:08Speaker 1: the morning I watched Guiding Emily. I watched it on
- 9:11Speaker 1: my phone because I started watching it at 5.30 a.m.
- 9:13Speaker 1: and I didn't want to turn on the television to
- 9:14Speaker 1: wake up my family. And I was wrapped, like the
- 9:18Speaker 1: entire time, fully engaged with that movie. Last night, my
- 9:21Speaker 1: husband and I sat down to watch Pumpkin Pie Wars.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And I will be honest, sometimes I watch these movies
- 9:27Speaker 1: and I got a lot of stuff going on. Like
- 9:28Speaker 1: I'm cleaning the kitchen. No, we were on the couch.
- 9:31Speaker 1: The dog was asleep. It was a date night. We
- 9:34Speaker 1: were hanging out, had a snack. I was in the
- 9:37Speaker 1: right mood. And in the right mood, but the wrong movie? Yes. Wow.
- 9:44Speaker 1: So did you like anything about it? I did. I
- 9:46Speaker 1: loved all the baked goods. I thought that was really
- 9:48Speaker 1: fun to watch. Okay. All right. And as much as
- 9:53Speaker 1: I thought the feud was overblown, I did like the
- 9:55Speaker 1: way they made it trickle down to affect the family,
- 9:58Speaker 1: especially like the The dads. The dads. The BFF dads
- 10:01Speaker 1: and their secret golfing outing. I enjoyed that. That's all. Wow. Okay.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I have... A big list. Let's hear them. This movie
- 10:13Speaker 1: was 100% all fall vibes. Yes. And we don't get
- 10:17Speaker 1: a ton of fall themed movies. So I was here
- 10:20Speaker 1: for it. Yes. We got leaves, pumpkins, fall colors, baked goods, carnivals.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So pleasingly interesting. Aesthetically, those words don't go together. It's
- 10:31Speaker 1: got a flip. Aesthetically pleasing. Thank you. It just made
- 10:35Speaker 1: me yearn for a fall festival. Yeah. I was like, please,
- 10:38Speaker 1: if there are any listeners in the Southern California area
- 10:41Speaker 1: and there's like a great fall festival, I need to
- 10:46Speaker 1: know what it is because I want to go to it.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I just want like those feelings. And this movie did
- 10:51Speaker 1: that for me. I really enjoyed Julie Gonzalo. Loved her.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I agree. She was the absolute highlight of this movie.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I just learned that she and Chris McNally are a
- 11:04Speaker 1: real life couple. What? And they just had a baby.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Did not know that. And the both of them are
- 11:10Speaker 1: in three bed, two bath. Oh, I'm even more excited
- 11:13Speaker 1: about that movie. Yes. I didn't know that they were together.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I just, somebody came in the DMs the other day
- 11:19Speaker 1: and was like, hey, did you know that? Love it.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I was like, awesome. She's not in nearly enough Hallmark
- 11:26Speaker 1: movies for me. I didn't see Color Cut whatever. It
- 11:30Speaker 1: was called Color Cut Murder. That's from this year, I believe. Maybe.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Maybe last year. Really? I don't know. Can you look
- 11:39Speaker 1: it up? Yeah, keep telling me what else you liked.
- 11:41Speaker 1: All right. Rico slash Eric. I think he's so good looking.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I already established that. I really enjoyed them together as
- 11:49Speaker 1: a pair. I thought they... What is that face? I
- 11:54Speaker 1: thought they truly cared for each other. It was totally believable. Now,
- 12:00Speaker 1: the enemies to a lover trope, I didn't think they
- 12:05Speaker 1: leaned too heavily into it. Nina wrote a really nice
- 12:08Speaker 1: job in the script of making these characters think they
- 12:13Speaker 1: had to not like each other, but then... They were
- 12:17Speaker 1: adult enough to realize that they could have a relationship
- 12:20Speaker 1: even though their families didn't get along. I agree with
- 12:23Speaker 1: you there. I have been complaining a lot about this
- 12:27Speaker 1: enemies to lovers nonsense and it goes too hard. And
- 12:30Speaker 1: I think you're exactly right. They knew they weren't supposed
- 12:32Speaker 1: to be friends and they bantered a little bit. I
- 12:34Speaker 1: thought it was very tongue in cheek. Mean spirited. Yes.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Agree with you 100%. Cut Color Murder is from 2022. Okay.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Thank you. Yeah. I thought their enemy portion of the
- 12:44Speaker 1: movie was very, okay, we're going to play along when
- 12:47Speaker 1: we are not supposed to get along with each other. Yes. Okay. Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I agree with that. But you didn't like them together
- 12:53Speaker 1: as a couple? I thought he was so caring. Like,
- 12:57Speaker 1: they both was a little transactional. I can help you
- 13:00Speaker 1: with your budget. Was it a budget? No, business plan. Oh,
- 13:05Speaker 1: business plan. I can help you with your business plan.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You can help me bake. I liked that. I thought...
- 13:15Speaker 1: Julie Gonzalo was a significantly stronger actor than Rico Aragon. Oh, okay.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Still hot. I thought he was very sweet. I did
- 13:29Speaker 1: that they helped each other out. Okay. All right. We
- 13:32Speaker 1: mentioned this earlier. I like the dads and their relationship.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I thought that was very sweet. I enjoyed the twist
- 13:41Speaker 1: at the end. I wasn't sure how they were going
- 13:43Speaker 1: to wrap it up because one of them needed to lose. Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 1: When she went into the bakery and goes to the bathroom,
- 13:48Speaker 1: she's like, oh, just kidding. I got to go. Did
- 13:50Speaker 1: you think something was up with that lady? No, I
- 13:52Speaker 1: felt bad for that lady because she had been like,
- 13:56Speaker 1: she had just told Casey like, I'm lonely or something
- 14:01Speaker 1: like that. Like she was missing her friend Faye. Because
- 14:07Speaker 1: Faye wasn't in the bakery that day. I don't know.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I felt bad for her. And I thought it was
- 14:11Speaker 1: just some side storyline. I didn't even put the two
- 14:14Speaker 1: and two together that this lady was going to steal
- 14:15Speaker 1: some recipe. I knew something was up, but I didn't
- 14:17Speaker 1: know what she had done when she, like, went to
- 14:19Speaker 1: the bathroom and came back and she leaves out her scone. Yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 1: You know when things happen in movies that don't seem relevant?
- 14:25Speaker 1: You just let it go. Yeah. That's how I felt.
- 14:27Speaker 1: But I did like that they threw in this third-party
- 14:31Speaker 1: disruption because there would have been consequences to one of
- 14:35Speaker 1: them losing. Yeah. So my husband and I were watching
- 14:38Speaker 1: it and he kept guessing like there was a moment
- 14:40Speaker 1: where she's on the ladder and he's like, oh, she's
- 14:42Speaker 1: going to fall and he's going to catch her. And
- 14:43Speaker 1: of course she falls and he catches her. Yeah. I
- 14:45Speaker 1: hate that stuff. And so I was like, hey, what
- 14:47Speaker 1: do you think the conflict is going to be? Because
- 14:49Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I think like the mothers are
- 14:51Speaker 1: going to find out and then they're going to work
- 14:54Speaker 1: to keep them apart. I thought the way they made
- 14:56Speaker 1: that conflict work was nice. That's great writing on Nina
- 15:00Speaker 1: Weinman's part. I agree. Yeah. While I didn't love Faye
- 15:04Speaker 1: and Lydia, I did appreciate the conversation they finally have
- 15:08Speaker 1: at the end where they, like, lay all their cards
- 15:10Speaker 1: on the table. They tell each other how they felt
- 15:13Speaker 1: and how it got messy. And prior to seeing this scene, like,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I hate a woman-on-woman storyline. I remember you and I
- 15:21Speaker 1: went to a conference a long time ago, and it
- 15:22Speaker 1: was like, all boats rise if we help each other, right?
- 15:27Speaker 1: And I hate to see, like, women pitted against each other.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I just can't stand it. If anybody saw the Barbie
- 15:34Speaker 1: movie this summer, like, we had enough shit women go through. Stop. Sure.
- 15:40Speaker 1: So anyway, I was glad that they had this meeting
- 15:43Speaker 1: of minds. Yeah. So that made me happy. Finally, I
- 15:46Speaker 1: love the Kelsey Ballerini song at the beginning. Yeah. It's
- 15:49Speaker 1: called Peter Pan. Not sure how it's relevant to this movie, though,
- 15:53Speaker 1: because that song Peter Pan is like about a dude
- 15:56Speaker 1: who doesn't grow up. It has nothing to do with
- 15:58Speaker 1: this movie. No, it just set the scene with the
- 16:00Speaker 1: vibe of the song. Sure. But the lyrics don't. You
- 16:03Speaker 1: ready to talk what you wished for? Sure. Look, I
- 16:06Speaker 1: refuse to believe the daughter of a baker is this
- 16:08Speaker 1: inept in the kitchen. Doesn't know how to turn the
- 16:11Speaker 1: mixer on. Doesn't know how to turn it from not
- 16:13Speaker 1: to turn it on 12. From 1 to 12. Come on. No,
- 16:17Speaker 1: in that whole scene, the mom was like, I said mix,
- 16:20Speaker 1: not stir. And I was like. Hmm, that's new news
- 16:24Speaker 1: to me. If I'm making, not from scratch, but like
- 16:28Speaker 1: a box of brownies and it says mix, I'm still
- 16:31Speaker 1: stirring it with a spoon. I'm not getting the mixer
- 16:34Speaker 1: out to mix the brownies. Yeah, I don't think you
- 16:36Speaker 1: would ever use a mixer for brownies, to be quite honest.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So is that real baking terminology then? I don't know,
- 16:42Speaker 1: baker's way in. Stir versus mix? Yes, please send us
- 16:45Speaker 1: your emails, jump into our Facebook group. I thought that
- 16:48Speaker 1: was so weird. I wanted more heat. We had heat
- 16:53Speaker 1: in the kitchen. Not enough between the stars. I agree.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I agree. Like I said earlier, I thought they were
- 16:59Speaker 1: a little bit transactional. I just, I thought they were
- 17:03Speaker 1: like sweet together. There was no heat though. Agree. Okay.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Is that it? That's all you wished for? Yeah. Okay.
- 17:10Speaker 1: So Faye and Lydia were so over the top in
- 17:13Speaker 1: this movie with their hatred for each other. Like, why
- 17:16Speaker 1: are you living like that? Like, with so much hate
- 17:18Speaker 1: in your heart. Yes. Forgiveness is for you, not for
- 17:22Speaker 1: the other person. That's what a therapist will tell you. Ugh.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And then I just thought they were so unlikable. For example,
- 17:29Speaker 1: Lydia was so incredibly unsupportive of her son Sam's ambition. Yes.
- 17:35Speaker 1: The dude went to... Le Cordon Bleu. I don't know.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I don't know if they actually even mentioned it, but
- 17:40Speaker 1: he went away to learn how to be a chef. Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And now he's just going to come back and work
- 17:45Speaker 1: in like the family bakery. And she says to him,
- 17:49Speaker 1: this bakery is your legacy. I'm like, no, it's not. Parents,
- 17:54Speaker 1: don't do that to your children. Yeah. Let them have
- 17:56Speaker 1: their own lives. Yes. And then... Faye puts so much
- 18:03Speaker 1: pressure on Casey to basically save the dwindling business. She's,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you're now like, they even said the face of the bakery.
- 18:12Speaker 1: So she's out at the hotels trying to get like
- 18:14Speaker 1: more business for her. I'm like the face of the bakery.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Doesn't she do the books? She went to Wharton and
- 18:22Speaker 1: is doing the freaking bookkeeping for this bakery now. But
- 18:26Speaker 1: now she's transitioning into being the face. Like she's the
- 18:29Speaker 1: baker of the bakery now. Yeah. Make it make sense
- 18:31Speaker 1: for me. I can't. To me, a person who goes
- 18:36Speaker 1: to Wharton and has a business degree should be making
- 18:40Speaker 1: real dollars somewhere. I didn't like this part of the
- 18:42Speaker 1: movie about that. Yeah, because she says, oh, I own
- 18:45Speaker 1: a bakery. So for some reason, she co-owns this bakery
- 18:47Speaker 1: with her mother. Since when? That was your dream to
- 18:49Speaker 1: come home and run the family business? Yeah, I don't
- 18:51Speaker 1: get it. You didn't go to business school to be
- 18:53Speaker 1: able to do that. No. No. I've got did you
- 18:56Speaker 1: see that. Okay, I'm ready for it. Okay. I have
- 18:58Speaker 1: a few too, but go ahead. One is according to IMDb.
- 19:02Speaker 1: The fields in the opening shot are full of CGI pumpkins.
- 19:05Speaker 1: If you pause, this is from IMDb, pausing the action
- 19:09Speaker 1: reveals that there are only a handful of pumpkin images
- 19:12Speaker 1: that have been copy and pasted over and over, made
- 19:14Speaker 1: to look different by flipping, resizing, and mirroring In many spots,
- 19:18Speaker 1: several of an identical image are even bunched together with
- 19:20Speaker 1: no effort made to differentiate between them. How quick is
- 19:23Speaker 1: the opening scene, though? Are they just like fast? They're
- 19:27Speaker 1: like panning over a field of pumpkins. But I read
- 19:30Speaker 1: this before I watched the movie and I was like,
- 19:32Speaker 1: it was a little rough. Oh, I'm going to have
- 19:34Speaker 1: to go back and see that. Sam is teaching Casey
- 19:37Speaker 1: to bake. And they're in the bakery and they've just
- 19:39Speaker 1: mixed something. And she's, yeah, I need to call it
- 19:42Speaker 1: a night. And they take off their aprons. They hang
- 19:45Speaker 1: them up. There's literally batter in her mixing bowl. All
- 19:48Speaker 1: of the ingredients, including butter. Well, that doesn't make any
- 19:41Speaker 1: sense to me. They didn't bake anything. They didn't clean up.
- 19:57Speaker 1: They leave batter full of ingredients that are going to
- 19:59Speaker 1: go bad on the counter. Yeah. Like, I imagine, like,
- 20:02Speaker 1: the bakers who arrive at 4 a.m. tomorrow morning are
- 20:04Speaker 1: going to be like, what the hell happened here? Well,
- 20:06Speaker 1: that was another scene. There's a moment when they stay
- 20:08Speaker 1: overnight in the bakery, and they're coming outside. It's light.
- 20:11Speaker 1: People are on the streets. Like, they're running into their
- 20:13Speaker 1: dads coming back from golfing, which, what time is it?
- 20:16Speaker 1: Some people golf at, like, early tea times, but... Earlier
- 20:20Speaker 1: than 6? No. It takes three hours to golf. It
- 20:22Speaker 1: has to be at least 9 a.m. at that point.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It doesn't make sense. But... They're leaving, let's say, at
- 20:26Speaker 1: 6 a.m. As you mentioned, someone would have had to
- 20:29Speaker 1: come in and do all of the overnight baking and
- 20:31Speaker 1: would have caught them in the bakery. Yeah. In the
- 20:34Speaker 1: first round of the bake-off, not in the very beginning,
- 20:37Speaker 1: but with Sam and Casey baking, they all bake bread.
- 20:41Speaker 1: They have one hour. It takes a full hour for
- 20:46Speaker 1: a loaf of bread like that to bake. Okay. They
- 20:48Speaker 1: have one hour start to finish. You cannot mix the bread,
- 20:51Speaker 1: get it in the oven, get it cool enough to
- 20:53Speaker 1: slice in one hour. It's going to be raw in
- 20:55Speaker 1: the middle? Yes. They should have made muffins or mini
- 20:58Speaker 1: loaves or something that would take like 20 minutes. You
- 21:00Speaker 1: still need a lot of cooling time for something like that.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I got to say, I don't ever recall seeing an
- 21:05Speaker 1: oven at the bake-off. No, they did. They had those big,
- 21:09Speaker 1: they had oven, like double door ovens behind them, which
- 21:11Speaker 1: I thought was How did they get them there? They
- 21:14Speaker 1: were like industrial ovens, so they wheeled them from their bakery?
- 21:16Speaker 1: I don't know. Where was the bake-off happening at? It
- 21:19Speaker 1: looked in like some town square because there was all
- 21:20Speaker 1: that seating. Yeah. Okay. All right. I'd like to talk
- 21:24Speaker 1: about a few characters in this movie. Okay. And the
- 21:27Speaker 1: actors who play them. Okay. Jennifer Jupiter Angelli. Yes. Plays Lydia.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Sam's mom. Sam's mom. At one point, my husband goes,
- 21:38Speaker 1: she was like eight years old when she had him,
- 21:40Speaker 1: which led me to... This Google search. Jennifer Jupiter Angelli
- 21:45Speaker 1: is 50 years old today. Oh, wow. Eric slash Rico
- 21:49Speaker 1: Aragon is 40 today. She literally was 10 years old.
- 21:54Speaker 1: That's funny. Michelle Scarabelli is 68. Okay. This is one
- 21:59Speaker 1: of those things where we've taken any woman over the
- 22:01Speaker 1: age of 40 and we're like, you're the grandma role.
- 22:03Speaker 1: You're old. You're old. Yeah. I have one. Okay. And
- 22:08Speaker 1: it's mostly a complaint. Why can't Faye... Bake sitting down. Okay.
- 22:15Speaker 1: She's got like a broken what? Ankle laid what? Get
- 22:18Speaker 1: her a chair so she can at least. You can
- 22:20Speaker 1: still stir sitting down. Yes. Have your daughter put it
- 22:24Speaker 1: in the oven for you. She could supervise. She could stir.
- 22:27Speaker 1: She could be present. I didn't get it. And also,
- 22:31Speaker 1: she was someone who was supposed to be resting and
- 22:33Speaker 1: off her feet. The woman is up and on crutches
- 22:36Speaker 1: a lot. And they're constantly yelling at her about it. Yes.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Put her in a scooter. Yes. A knee scooter. Something. Yeah.
- 22:44Speaker 1: What are those sit-down ones? Something. A rascal? A rascal.
- 22:49Speaker 1: That's all. All right. Let's rate Pumpkin Pie Wars. My
- 22:52Speaker 1: note here says, really enjoy this one. I give it
- 22:55Speaker 1: four stars. I liked it. I have to lift my
- 22:59Speaker 1: head up from the table. 2.5. You guys, please weigh
- 23:05Speaker 1: in and let us know if you are team Megan
- 23:09Speaker 1: with 2.5 stars or team Wendy with 4.5 stars. They're

- 23:22Speaker 1: baking some bread. Wow. Okay. Sorry. All right. Whether you're
