Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Last night I heard a song and listen leaning that's
- 0:18Speaker 1: Young Broken Sound Stories.
- 0:22Speaker 2: What's up this air from I Prevail And we're here
- 0:26Speaker 2: about to do this epic run with Parkway Drive celebrating
- 0:29Speaker 2: twenty years of the legends themselves. And we just released
- 0:33Speaker 2: a new song. It's a collaboration with All Time Low
- 0:35Speaker 2: called Hate This Song. It just came out and we're
- 0:39Speaker 2: real stoked about it and I'm hanging out with my
- 0:42Speaker 2: friend Chris and let's have some fun.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Hell yeah, brother, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 0:48Speaker 3: No, so we have. I've got a couple of things
- 0:50Speaker 3: to get through.
- 0:50Speaker 4: But so we'll start off with a single which dropped
- 0:53Speaker 4: only about an hour ago. But it's called hate This Song,
- 0:56Speaker 4: and it's a collaboration with alternative pop band All Time Low.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Like doesn't the say about the typical so so from
- 1:03Speaker 4: our for bad by what they have?
- 1:04Speaker 3: That happened?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Uh yeah, yeah, I think that was the That was
- 1:07Speaker 2: the plan and the magic of it is is in
- 1:10Speaker 2: between this this last record and before we start working
- 1:13Speaker 2: on our new stuff, had some opportunities to work with
- 1:16Speaker 2: some bands, and one of them being All Time Low,
- 1:19Speaker 2: and our manager hit us up a while back and
- 1:22Speaker 2: I was like, hey, we got a we got an
- 1:24Speaker 2: email and request to do a collab with this band.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We're like, oh, who is it? Who is it? And
- 1:29Speaker 2: all time low, Oh, okay, sick. Let's hear the track,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and they set the track over and it's pretty much
- 1:36Speaker 2: what you hear, except the you know, Brian wasn't singing
- 1:39Speaker 2: the verse, and the bridge was just like this instrumental thing.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And after hearing a couple of times, listening to a
- 1:45Speaker 2: few times and trying to get our heads around it,
- 1:48Speaker 2: I knew that courses that course is a banger. It's
- 1:52Speaker 2: a ten out of ten chorus. I was like, all right, yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 2: let's do it. Now, how do we what do we do?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Do They just want us like sing the parts they
- 2:00Speaker 2: already wrote, And after some talking back and forth with them,
- 2:04Speaker 2: they're like, no, we want you to to write something
- 2:07Speaker 2: to it, like any any parts. Just take out whatever
- 2:10Speaker 2: you want and put whatever you want in. And we're
- 2:12Speaker 2: like all right. So we had we had Brian sing
- 2:14Speaker 2: sing the second verse and tweets some stuff up on it,
- 2:17Speaker 2: and then the bridge. We're like all right, Well, if
- 2:20Speaker 2: they came to us, I'm sure they just didn't want
- 2:22Speaker 2: our poppy you know melodics side. Maybe maybe they really
- 2:27Speaker 2: wanted us, Maybe they wanted to hear some uh some
- 2:30Speaker 2: riffage and and hear like our our take on like
- 2:33Speaker 2: modern metal, and and uh yeah, so we you know,
- 2:37Speaker 2: banged our heads against the wall for a few hours
- 2:40Speaker 2: and wrote this little this little bridge part and try
- 2:43Speaker 2: to make this like real abrupt left turn in the
- 2:46Speaker 2: song and and uh find a way to throw it
- 2:49Speaker 2: back to the chorus. And you know, we after a
- 2:52Speaker 2: couple of days working on it. Uh, they were actually
- 2:55Speaker 2: in our hometown in Detroit playing a show a couple
- 2:58Speaker 2: of weeks later. So I on the show and getting
- 3:01Speaker 2: a show on the person. I was like, all right,
- 3:03Speaker 2: you know, fair warning, it's that's pretty different. Played it
- 3:06Speaker 2: for him and they all were like, oh my god,
- 3:08Speaker 2: this is fick. This is so sick. So we went
- 3:12Speaker 2: back and tweeked it a little bit and here's the
- 3:14Speaker 2: song and it's it's fun. It was fun. It was
- 3:18Speaker 2: a fun writing challenge to be able to really right
- 3:23Speaker 2: outside the box of what typically I prevail is. And
- 3:27Speaker 2: same with our last collab with Hailstorm, and and it's
- 3:31Speaker 2: just a good a new tool for us to to
- 3:34Speaker 2: write stuff that's not typically I prevail and you know,
- 3:37Speaker 2: maybe it won't fit the record, but it it Maybe
- 3:39Speaker 2: we learned something out on that journey, or maybe we
- 3:42Speaker 2: have a song now to to feature a collab with
- 3:45Speaker 2: a totally different artist. Yeah, so it's it's It was
- 3:50Speaker 2: a lot of fun. It was a great experience and
- 3:54Speaker 2: really stoked about how it turned out and.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Did really good. Mind it's like, no what you'd expect,
- 3:58Speaker 3: but it's not.
- 3:59Speaker 4: It's it's good, you know, like it did's pleasant, it's good,
- 4:03Speaker 4: but it's it's sort of how did the process of.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Melting the two bands together? Guy? That it was an
- 4:10Speaker 3: easy thing to know, you Dan.
- 4:13Speaker 2: It was a challenge. It was a challenge for the
- 4:15Speaker 2: first bit when we were like all right, when we
- 4:17Speaker 2: when we were sitting down on the studio, we're like,
- 4:19Speaker 2: all right, let's uh, let's let's let's inject ourselves in
- 4:23Speaker 2: the bridge. I think that's what we should do, and
- 4:25Speaker 2: and writing. We wrote a couple of different rifts and
- 4:27Speaker 2: a couple of different parts, and we're like, okay, that
- 4:30Speaker 2: that seems a little tame. Yeah, let's let's just go
- 4:33Speaker 2: for it. Let's just go for it. Let's write a rift,
- 4:35Speaker 2: let's write something that's like very I prevail and that's
- 4:40Speaker 2: what ended up on it, and that's where where the
- 4:43Speaker 2: song ended. It was with that that decision of like
- 4:47Speaker 2: instead of just like you know, stepping around dancing around it,
- 4:50Speaker 2: let's let's just go into it right. And they came
- 4:52Speaker 2: to us, they know that we we do heavy ship,
- 4:55Speaker 2: let's uh, let's bring it. And so it wasn't it
- 4:58Speaker 2: wasn't extremely difficult. It was just trying to get our
- 5:01Speaker 2: head into the just just forget all the rules and
- 5:06Speaker 2: just write something fun. Once we did that, it came
- 5:09Speaker 2: together fairly well, fairly fairly easy.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah, now you've mentioned this a couple of jobs already, mite,
- 5:14Speaker 4: but you be spiking about a new.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Album, so you guys are in the process arriving something new.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I am not not so much as in like sitting
- 5:22Speaker 2: down and spending a bunch of time writing the record
- 5:25Speaker 2: like we have in the past. This is like the
- 5:26Speaker 2: first time that we've dabbled with like writing on the road,
- 5:29Speaker 2: like on days off or or in between tours, getting
- 5:32Speaker 2: together for a day or two and just like getting
- 5:34Speaker 2: ideas down. It's been a fit and then and that's
- 5:37Speaker 2: how a lot of these like collabs and other things
- 5:39Speaker 2: that we've done. We're just because we just had some
- 5:42Speaker 2: free time and we're just jamming and writing little ideas.
- 5:45Speaker 2: And so now now it's like, yeah, you know, we're
- 5:49Speaker 2: gonna have to have a record out eventually. Uh so
- 5:52Speaker 2: maybe we should start getting on, uh getting on to
- 5:55Speaker 2: demo and some ideas now. And I think it's been
- 5:58Speaker 2: very fun and new for us because the last few
- 6:02Speaker 2: records it's been all right, we got three months, we're
- 6:07Speaker 2: sitting at home, we're writing the record, or we got
- 6:09Speaker 2: a half a year, we're not touring for another year,
- 6:11Speaker 2: we're gonna write the record. Now it's been like, oh,
- 6:14Speaker 2: I got this idea, you know, next off day, let's
- 6:17Speaker 2: let me lay this idea down, or or Steve's got
- 6:20Speaker 2: an idea for guitar partner or anything like that. It's
- 6:23Speaker 2: or you know, playing a show and I've been doing it.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I'm not a vocal technique, but my voice has been
- 6:31Speaker 2: warmed up and I'm in I'm in prime form because
- 6:34Speaker 2: we've been on the road for three weeks. Let me
- 6:37Speaker 2: let me track that idea rather than doing it cold
- 6:40Speaker 2: after not touring or playing shows for six months, and
- 6:43Speaker 2: I'm now tracking something that doesn't feel not authentic, but
- 6:49Speaker 2: doesn't feel natural. It feels like I'm just going in
- 6:52Speaker 2: there tracking the idea. Now it feels like, well, I've
- 6:54Speaker 2: been singing and performing for the last you know, a
- 6:57Speaker 2: couple of weeks. My voice is prime right now. Let's
- 7:00Speaker 2: let's see what I can do, you know.
- 7:03Speaker 4: But as you said, the other big news is that
- 7:05Speaker 4: you kick off of Austrian trow with Parkway Drive to
- 7:08Speaker 4: go to the side and avoid a vision on September
- 7:10Speaker 4: eight eighth in Brisbane before hitting Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and
- 7:14Speaker 4: Perth mates. So you obviously landed you here, are you
- 7:17Speaker 4: ready to go?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Like?
- 7:18Speaker 4: Is it the count before the storm now or what
- 7:20Speaker 4: sort of what do you doing to get yourself ready?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Oh?
- 7:22Speaker 3: Man?
- 7:24Speaker 2: So on the last ten years of I prevailed, this
- 7:26Speaker 2: might be my favorite tour hands down. So I'm I'm
- 7:31Speaker 2: really a kid before Christmas. I'm excited. Parkway Drives was
- 7:37Speaker 2: and still is a huge inspiration for me growing up
- 7:40Speaker 2: and even now. So to be able to be asked
- 7:43Speaker 2: to come over here and celebrate twenty fucking years of
- 7:46Speaker 2: Parkway Is is honestly a huge, huge honor for us
- 7:52Speaker 2: and the other band's ghost aside, we've done a few
- 7:55Speaker 2: festivals with them, and they're another band that I like,
- 7:58Speaker 2: I listened to for better part of a decade, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: now we were lucky enough to call them friends, being
- 8:05Speaker 2: able to play a few festivals together, and now we
- 8:07Speaker 2: get to tour with them, and then void A Vision.
- 8:09Speaker 2: They were the first band I think too, there was
- 8:13Speaker 2: another band I think Voyda Vision was the first band
- 8:15Speaker 2: to play with us over in Australia. And those dudes
- 8:19Speaker 2: are awesome. Their new music rips and I haven't seen
- 8:22Speaker 2: them since that first tour with seven seven years ago,
- 8:27Speaker 2: seven and a half years ago, so really really excited
- 8:30Speaker 2: to see them again and see them rip it and
- 8:33Speaker 2: see how far they've come in the last few years. So,
- 8:36Speaker 2: like I said, this tour is just just hands down
- 8:38Speaker 2: gonna be probably hard to beat for any other tour
- 8:42Speaker 2: in the future.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 4: And there's already three of the shows that sold out
- 8:46Speaker 4: too much, so from a personal perspective of a band
- 8:49Speaker 4: coming from overseas, like leave it home knowing that you've
- 8:52Speaker 4: got at least three sold out shows to come to
- 8:55Speaker 4: and it'd have to get the fivest burden more, wouldn't it.
- 8:59Speaker 2: It's like we don't even have to worry about, like,
- 9:00Speaker 2: oh yeah, I wonder how the shows are going to do, Like,
- 9:02Speaker 2: you know, are we gonna make enough emerch like to
- 9:05Speaker 2: make this worth it. We don't have to think about
- 9:07Speaker 2: any of that. We're just coming over here and ripping
- 9:09Speaker 2: some massive gigs, just putting on the best show possible.
- 9:12Speaker 2: And all we have to do is focus on on
- 9:15Speaker 2: playing and putting on the best show that we can.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So uh yeah, really really excited, And yeah I just
- 9:25Speaker 2: keep I could just keep gushing over over how awesome
- 9:27Speaker 2: an experience and opportunity is. But uh yeah, man, yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Very killing it. You're already in the loss to destroy
- 9:34Speaker 3: effort put things last year.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Might say, it's not even really twelve months toy baby last.
- 9:38Speaker 4: So what's change with the bands and sand Oh yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 2: We did a co headliner with Hailstorm in the US
- 9:49Speaker 2: and that was about almost seven weeks those big amphitheaters,
- 9:53Speaker 2: and for us, it was some of our biggest shows
- 9:55Speaker 2: in the States that we've done as like a headliner
- 9:57Speaker 2: and learned a lot from that. Learned a lot from
- 10:02Speaker 2: a lot of amphitheaters, so a lot of seats and
- 10:04Speaker 2: not a lot of pits. Uh, a lot of I
- 10:07Speaker 2: definitely learned a lot of because I grew up in
- 10:10Speaker 2: the metal scene and the hardcore scene. So I'm going
- 10:13Speaker 2: to a show, I'm hitting, I'm punching people, I'm jumping
- 10:15Speaker 2: off the stage, and and the band's giving that energy back.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And I've always just that's always been instinctual for me
- 10:24Speaker 2: as a performer. Like going out and ripping a gig.
- 10:26Speaker 2: It's like, oh, these kids are mashing, they're singing, the
- 10:29Speaker 2: throwing shit around, they're having a good time. I'm gonna
- 10:31Speaker 2: put more into it. So when we go and play
- 10:34Speaker 2: these amphitheaters and everyone's sitting there or standing in their
- 10:37Speaker 2: seats and there's no movement. They're just phones out or
- 10:39Speaker 2: or just singing along and watching it, it was I
- 10:45Speaker 2: learned real quick, like you know, they're having fun, They're
- 10:47Speaker 2: they're just you know, you're watching, they're observing. Yeah. Yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 2: So uh learned learned to not rely on the energy
- 10:58Speaker 2: given from the crowd is how much I don't you know,
- 11:00Speaker 2: I'm putting out. I've learned to just uh not judge
- 11:05Speaker 2: the crowd their time if they're having a good time
- 11:08Speaker 2: strictly on mosh pits, you know, but it's just hot.
- 11:11Speaker 3: But I can see it.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, but now coming over here, uh and the
- 11:18Speaker 2: lineup and Parkway and and it's just metal metal fans
- 11:23Speaker 2: a big open floor. I'm hoping. I'm really excited to
- 11:28Speaker 2: get that energy back, and I think that'll just light
- 11:30Speaker 2: a spark uh in us for the fifty minutes that
- 11:34Speaker 2: will be ripping these songs on stage.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, now just say this and people cover to
- 11:39Speaker 4: the shows that I just say it's the Parkway Drive
- 11:41Speaker 4: fans and then don't really know how much you had arprobila,
- 11:44Speaker 4: give us three of your songs from the listening before
- 11:46Speaker 4: they come so they can get into your set better.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Okay, Uh, never heard of I premail on your Parkway fan, uh,
- 11:55Speaker 2: which like a down body bag and uh gasoline. We'll
- 12:03Speaker 2: go with those three. Those are some some heavy more
- 12:09Speaker 2: metal metalcore inspired tracks, and there are gonna be three
- 12:13Speaker 2: songs that I'm not gonna give too much away, but
- 12:15Speaker 2: those songs are definitely in the Sudleist.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Wait before we.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Late, you got started a new thing where I've got
- 12:22Speaker 4: a bit of time on my hand. So I've been
- 12:23Speaker 4: going through your Facebook fighters and finding a couple that
- 12:26Speaker 4: I get a shindy and I'm going.
- 12:27Speaker 3: To get issue with it. Please explain. Okay, so I
- 12:32Speaker 3: got the first one. Is it's funny. Yeah, let's gout
- 12:39Speaker 3: on there. It looks.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Let me think that was uh, I don't remember
- 12:47Speaker 2: which city, but it was our headline for True Power
- 12:52Speaker 2: with piercell Vale Fit for King Stan Atlantic and Yours
- 12:56Speaker 2: Truly and I think that show we sold out. I
- 13:00Speaker 2: think it was l A and uh yeah, they they
- 13:03Speaker 2: brought back that that little decancer there had uh had
- 13:07Speaker 2: the band's name engraved on it, and they brought us
- 13:11Speaker 2: a cake that was shaped in a guitar and uh
- 13:14Speaker 2: you can kind of see uh behind Steve, I think
- 13:17Speaker 2: it's uh High May from Pierce the Veil and there
- 13:20Speaker 2: their tour manager Cam. Uh. So it was just us
- 13:23Speaker 2: and and uh uh Pierce the Veil back there celebrating.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I think that was pretty early into the tour, so
- 13:30Speaker 2: it was like early celebration of what was to come
- 13:33Speaker 2: on that on that tour. That tour was awesome.
- 13:36Speaker 3: There's even someone rd An now for Wolf t shirt
- 13:38Speaker 3: might stay supporting.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Alf Are. They're good friends. Love those guys.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Uh.
- 13:44Speaker 2: They were just in Detroit recently. I got to go
- 13:47Speaker 2: them and they asked me to do Uh, do it
- 13:49Speaker 2: rip a song with them? So I went up and
- 13:50Speaker 2: did Acadamo with them and that was that was. I
- 13:54Speaker 2: love alp Stabia is a good good friend of mine.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I've got one, so I could be a fun mitel.
- 14:02Speaker 3: What's hap today?
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that was right after we released through Power Sore
- 14:09Speaker 2: from Detroit and Brian and I are big sports fans.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I played baseball all the way through college or university,
- 14:17Speaker 2: I think is what you guys call out over here,
- 14:19Speaker 2: and actually got I got injured and had I ended
- 14:22Speaker 2: up dropping out of college and that's when I prevail started.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So long story short, we released the record We're big
- 14:30Speaker 2: Detroit Tigers fans, our hometown baseball team, and they had
- 14:33Speaker 2: us out to throw the first pitch and that was
- 14:36Speaker 2: on the field. That's the that's the pause of the mascot,
- 14:39Speaker 2: and uh we got to go throw the ceremony ceremony
- 14:43Speaker 2: a Ford the first pitch and we got to hang
- 14:47Speaker 2: out at the game and meet some of the players
- 14:49Speaker 2: and that was really cool. It was It was funny too.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I played baseball from I was three years old till
- 14:56Speaker 2: twenty was it twenty twenty one when I got injured,
- 15:00Speaker 2: And uh, I always had dreams are going playing as
- 15:02Speaker 2: far as possible and going to you know, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 2: minor leagues if I was lucky enough. But uh, it
- 15:08Speaker 2: was funny that my parents came to the game, and
- 15:12Speaker 2: I was like, isn't it wild that I got to
- 15:15Speaker 2: go throw a first pitch and walk on the ballpark,
- 15:17Speaker 2: on the ball field through music the stuff that you
- 15:23Speaker 2: guys were like, all this screaming stuff isn't gonna go anywhere,
- 15:27Speaker 2: And here I am throwing the first pitch at a
- 15:29Speaker 2: baseball game, not because I was playing baseball, but because
- 15:32Speaker 2: I was yelling at people for the last ten years.
- 15:36Speaker 4: That's that's the story of the Yeah.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I love I love this. I love this segment. You
- 15:42Speaker 2: gotta don't don't ever get rid of this segment. This
- 15:44Speaker 2: is good.
- 15:45Speaker 4: This is good, buddy, just out of doing talking up,
- 15:47Speaker 4: I just going down really well. I love it all right, Eric, Well,

- 16:01Speaker 4: song and you gonna have to hide it because it's
- 16:03Speaker 4: pretty fucking good. Enjoy your talking about be about you

- 16:12Speaker 3: Man.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Last night I.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Heard a sonic papa call these awful feelings and never
- 16:26Speaker 1: listened longing I've been I get the meaning. Un as
- 16:30Speaker 1: you're broken like good sound you to your starry ceiling,
- 16:34Speaker 1: jack chriscape and starting over.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Is it worth repeating you sail on and still.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Call you night.

- 17:22Speaker 5: I should have been moving on, but shot mon bacle,
- 17:26Speaker 5: I burn this one a million has it?
- 17:30Speaker 6: Then you.

- 17:53Speaker 3: Sure when you hear our doors start open, makes you
- 18:03Speaker 3: sick next time singing along?
