- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It is one of those times of the
- 0:22Speaker 1: week where we have a guest join us. He is
- 0:24Speaker 1: the best college football writer in America. Check him out
- 0:27Speaker 1: at Channel 6 and other places. Spencer Hall, what's going on?
- 0:31Speaker 2: What's going on, sir? There's nothing happening. I mean, I
- 0:34Speaker 2: don't know why you would have me on at this
- 0:36Speaker 2: point on December 2nd.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Hey, look, man, we got to hurry up and get
- 0:39Speaker 1: this done so we can go watch this Diddy movie
- 0:41Speaker 1: that 50 made.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I don't have any shame in admitting. I can't wait.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And it's all these people who are like, yeah, well,
- 0:49Speaker 1: he just doing this because he don't like Diddy.
- 0:52Speaker 3: The only reason I'm watching is because I don't like Diddy.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Let's go. We all have appointment viewing. You have that.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I have to go to Zach Fox's TikTok account and
- 1:01Speaker 2: just see how many times he's retweeted Kevin Gates singing
- 1:04Speaker 2: beefing with my chick while I'm in jail. I don't
- 1:06Speaker 2: know if you know this. He's retweeted it like 50
- 1:09Speaker 2: times in different variations, and I can't stop hearing Kevin
- 1:12Speaker 2: Gates in my head. So we should get to this
- 1:15Speaker 2: because we both have things to do after.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I just want to say this one thing
- 1:18Speaker 1: about 50 Cent is for all the terrible things there
- 1:20Speaker 1: are to say about him, and they are terrible, one
- 1:22Speaker 1: thing the man is not is.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Insincere, right?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Like, I watched him sit down in that interview with
- 1:27Speaker 1: the director, and you know what he's thinking?
- 1:29Speaker 3: I put this black woman on, you know.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And he's sitting there, and they're talking to Robert Roberts,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and he takes that quiet tone and talks about the
- 1:35Speaker 1: seriousness of the matter, and he was just like, look, man,
- 1:37Speaker 1: I'm just telling y'all. The man asked me if I, basically,
- 1:40Speaker 1: he's like, he asked me if I wanted to go
- 1:42Speaker 1: shopping with him, and I knew what time it was.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I knew he was trying to be, and I ain't
- 1:46Speaker 1: been cool with him ever since. So yeah, I'm making
- 1:48Speaker 1: a movie about it.
- 1:49Speaker 2: You know, there's survival instincts. You only get from surviving
- 1:53Speaker 2: a violent shooting. And I think that's, I think that's
- 1:56Speaker 2: one thing we've learned about 50 is that if he
- 1:59Speaker 2: leaves the room, it's time for you to go to. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Yep.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yep. This is what it is.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I was hanging out with somebody that some people in
- 2:06Speaker 1: this show would be familiar with. He was with his
- 2:08Speaker 1: girl and he was talking about how they was somewhere
- 2:10Speaker 1: in Atlanta and And he saw some dude walk in
- 2:12Speaker 1: and he was like, he's about to shoot up the place.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And he got out and that woman looked at him
- 2:16Speaker 1: in front of us and said, and you know, that
- 2:18Speaker 1: was the day that I realized that there was something
- 2:19Speaker 1: about you. She was, she was 100% like, yeah, this
- 2:27Speaker 1: is the kind of man I need in my life.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Just in case you're wondering what they love.
- 2:33Speaker 2: This gas station is no longer a safe space. We
- 2:35Speaker 2: got to go. Yeah. Yes. Yes.
- 2:38Speaker 3: All right, Lane Kiffin is now the coach at.
- 2:41Speaker 2: LSU, right? That happened. That happened. He's there. That did happen.
- 2:45Speaker 3: He is there.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I've heard not a
- 2:51Speaker 1: word about candidate number two.
- 2:54Speaker 2: For this job.
- 2:55Speaker 3: LSU decided that they wanted Lane.
- 2:58Speaker 1: They talked about how they was never going to give
- 3:00Speaker 1: out a contract like they gave out before. Not only
- 3:03Speaker 1: are they giving him a contract like the one before LSU,
- 3:06Speaker 1: They're going to pay him bonuses.
- 3:08Speaker 3: If Ole Miss were to win a national.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Championship, Lane Kiffin's owed a million dollars in his contract,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and LSU is going to give him the million dollars.
- 3:16Speaker 1: They have handed the keys over to him, and I
- 3:20Speaker 1: don't think anybody has really properly stopped to ask the question,
- 3:23Speaker 1: is this a good idea for LSU?
- 3:26Speaker 2: Well, first of all, let's congratulate Jeff Landry on some
- 3:29Speaker 2: extreme politicianing, some extreme politician speak by being like, we're
- 3:34Speaker 2: going to do contracts that are different. We're not going
- 3:36Speaker 2: to do all this appeasement and we're not going to
- 3:40Speaker 2: just give coaches what they want. Then Lane rolled up
- 3:42Speaker 2: and he's like, keys to the castle, baby. Yes.
- 3:46Speaker 3: For Lane.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Take them. For Lane, a guy who, if I may
- 3:51Speaker 2: remind you, has won championships as an assistant and has
- 3:57Speaker 2: won with Florida Atlantic. Yes. So we have, and yes,
- 4:03Speaker 2: Full credit to everything that happened at Ole Miss. That
- 4:06Speaker 2: is the best run at Ole Miss history. He is
- 4:08Speaker 2: the best coach in Ole Miss history. Do not throw
- 4:10Speaker 2: John Vaught in my face. Not everyone was eligible to
- 4:13Speaker 2: play those games. I didn't get to see the full
- 4:15Speaker 2: capacity of those things. His name's on the stadium. Doesn't
- 4:18Speaker 2: have to be on the statue outside. If they were
- 4:20Speaker 2: going to build one, it would be from Lane. He
- 4:22Speaker 2: is the only guy with an 11-win season there. 10, 11,
- 4:25Speaker 2: and 10. Phenomenal run there. Maybe his best work. And
- 4:29Speaker 2: I think what will be his best work because... I
- 4:32Speaker 2: think this LSU gig is now completely complicated by simply
- 4:38Speaker 2: by how he came in and by the circumstances of
- 4:42Speaker 2: the game as it exists now. So.
- 4:48Speaker 1: The Ole Miss thing is interesting because it is the
- 4:50Speaker 1: best run, and I made a mistake last show. I
- 4:52Speaker 1: said that Lane did not have a big win at
- 4:54Speaker 1: Ole Miss, and that's not true because they did beat
- 4:56Speaker 1: Georgia last year.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Listen, they beat Georgia.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Other than that, big win for Lane ever, I believe,
- 5:02Speaker 1: is the 2011 year against Oregon where they pulled one
- 5:07Speaker 1: out at the end of the year while they were
- 5:09Speaker 1: somewhat in the throes of probation.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Okay?
- 5:12Speaker 1: So my bad. He has won two games worth discussing
- 5:15Speaker 1: in the last 15 years.
- 5:17Speaker 3: My fault. My fault. I owe you an apology, Lane.
- 5:21Speaker 3: You've got those two.
- 5:22Speaker 1: However, if you are lining up the best coaches in
- 5:26Speaker 1: the SEC, just putting their names on the list, I'm
- 5:29Speaker 1: not even necessarily saying where does he stand on the list.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I'm asking you how many of those coaches can you
- 5:36Speaker 1: definitively say Lane Kiffin is a better coach than insert
- 5:42Speaker 1: name here.
- 5:43Speaker 3: And buddy, I don't know, given that.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Mississippi State's coach is actually kind of sort of the
- 5:50Speaker 1: shadow coach and the actual coach is actually a really.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Good coach, bad guy. Who you got?
- 5:58Speaker 1: I don't have anybody that I am positive in this
- 6:01Speaker 1: conference that Lane Kiffin is a better coach than.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I'm a little higher on him than you are.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Okay, but tell me positively. Is he positively better than Beamer?
- 6:11Speaker 2: Than Beamer? Yes. Okay. Okay.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Is he positively better than Hypel?
- 6:18Speaker 4: No. No.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And I will say this, too. I think Hypel's a
- 6:22Speaker 2: better org guy. I think that is underrated, the gig
- 6:28Speaker 2: that he has done at Tennessee and the culture that
- 6:29Speaker 2: he has built. Because when was the last time, I'll
- 6:32Speaker 2: make this brief, when was the last time you heard, man,
- 6:34Speaker 2: Tennessee's got a problem player, or Tennessee has a culture? Nope. Nope.
- 6:39Speaker 2: That is a kumbaya group that gets results at a
- 6:41Speaker 2: place that is harder to succeed at than people think
- 6:43Speaker 2: so yes next all right.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Um is he positively better than eli at.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Missouri another underrated dude i think overall if i was
- 6:55Speaker 2: giving you one v one game lane is a better
- 6:59Speaker 2: play caller and he's going to be a tougher one-on-one
- 7:02Speaker 2: matchup if i'm extending this over if i'm giving you
- 7:04Speaker 2: a stock report right here's your money take your portfolio
- 7:07Speaker 2: to eli drinkwits and associates I would give it to
- 7:10Speaker 2: Drinkwits just based on the steady performance at a place that, again,
- 7:12Speaker 2: a little more difficult than people think.
- 7:15Speaker 1: But they're in the same neighborhood, and I'm just saying,
- 7:16Speaker 1: ain't nobody going through all this shit for Eli Drinkwitz.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. The thing I give him credit for,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and you and I have talked about this for years
- 7:24Speaker 1: with Lane, I do appreciate that he doesn't make offense
- 7:26Speaker 1: more complicated than it has to be.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Hey, we got a dude, and I'm.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Going to give him the ball every time if I can.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It doesn't matter what position he plays. When it was
- 7:35Speaker 1: Amari Cooper, Amari Cooper damn near won a Heisman. When
- 7:38Speaker 1: it was Derrick Henry, he ran for 2,000 yards, and
- 7:41Speaker 1: he won a Heisman.
- 7:42Speaker 2: If you're the guy.
- 7:43Speaker 3: you're going to get the ball.
- 7:45Speaker 2: If he did this with Marquise Lee at USC, listen,
- 7:49Speaker 2: he did this with Jackson Dart. He did this with
- 7:54Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss. Did not matter that he was a Ferris
- 7:57Speaker 2: State transfer. Did not matter that he appeared to be
- 8:01Speaker 2: an FCS player. When he walked on the field, you go, wow,
- 8:05Speaker 2: that guy looks a little small. Doesn't matter. You're going
- 8:07Speaker 2: to touch the ball 53 times. It works. And he's
- 8:09Speaker 2: going to do it. So he doesn't make it harder
- 8:11Speaker 2: than it has to be. He puts players in a
- 8:13Speaker 2: position to succeed. Delegates much better than he used to.
- 8:16Speaker 2: At USC, the story was that Lane would not delegate,
- 8:19Speaker 2: and Lane would not let anyone touch any controls on offense.
- 8:23Speaker 2: He's a little bit better about that now, still calls plays,
- 8:26Speaker 2: but very good about delegating. And keeps it loose. Like,
- 8:29Speaker 2: that's as a program-wide, keeps it loose. We're all basically,
- 8:34Speaker 2: we're talking around, we're outlining the elephant in the room,
- 8:37Speaker 2: which is Lane. Which is... That's it. Right. Like every
- 8:42Speaker 2: question we asked today, Bo, every question we asked today
- 8:45Speaker 2: is going to be should work, should work, should work,
- 8:47Speaker 2: should work. But right. That's it. That's it. There's there's
- 8:51Speaker 2: kind of a mess there. And it's more it's complicated
- 8:54Speaker 2: now by. Well, there's a mess meeting a mess. And
- 8:58Speaker 2: in the middle, they're going to try to build a
- 9:00Speaker 2: football program together. And that that's going to be the
- 9:05Speaker 2: challenge here.
- 9:06Speaker 3: You're not going to convince me.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That the most attractive part of this job delaying Kiffin
- 9:10Speaker 1: was not the fact that it is fraught with drama. Like,
- 9:14Speaker 1: like you're not, you're not, you're, you're, you're not going to, now,
- 9:16Speaker 1: now one thing I will say though, one thing I
- 9:17Speaker 1: will say, you might bring it. It feels like bringing
- 9:21Speaker 1: it back should be on the board, right? Like it, it, it, it,
- 9:24Speaker 1: it should be at the top of the board actually.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Bo, would that be drama? Would that be drama? I
- 9:30Speaker 2: feel like that would be a good time. It'd be
- 9:32Speaker 2: a good time, but that'd be dramatic, right? That would
- 9:34Speaker 2: be a story. It would be dramatic. That means they're
- 9:37Speaker 2: going to do it. That means it's going to happen.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I'm going to give everybody a blueprint here, okay? Oh, man,
- 9:42Speaker 2: would Ed come back even though he was the head coach? Yeah. Yes.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You know, Lane wants it to happen, so it's going
- 9:47Speaker 2: to happen. They've handed him everything. Do you want, oh, hey,
- 9:51Speaker 2: would it be weird if Nick Saban were a consultant?
- 9:54Speaker 2: What if Nick were just off over here and we
- 9:57Speaker 2: just paid him to.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Be over here?
- 9:59Speaker 2: Wouldn't that be dramatic? Yeah, sure, they'll try to do it.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Whatever you name, if it's going to be a good
- 10:04Speaker 2: story and it's going to raise some eyebrows, Lane will
- 10:07Speaker 2: do it and LSU's just going to let him.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I just my my I don't know if complain is
- 10:14Speaker 1: the right word, but as coach.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:17Speaker 1: He's not quite Lincoln Riley in the sense of, hey,
- 10:19Speaker 1: you know, we got to play some defense, too.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Right. Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 1: However, you know, you got to play some defense, too.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Like I I think you are you are. And I
- 10:29Speaker 1: mean this in the positive way, Florida, man. While Spencer
- 10:34Speaker 1: has the picture of Florida man, he does not have
- 10:36Speaker 1: the internal composition and constitution of Florida man, but we
- 10:40Speaker 1: talked about he's the spiritual successor to Spurrier. If there
- 10:43Speaker 1: was a job that was a fit, that is the one,
- 10:45Speaker 1: except it sounds like the AD of Florida was like, nah,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I ain't working with this clown.
- 10:48Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Off the top, it was kind of like, I'm not
- 10:51Speaker 1: really trying to do this. I got to take this call,
- 10:54Speaker 1: but I'm not.
- 10:55Speaker 2: About that, the reason that did not happen, the primary reason,
- 10:58Speaker 2: besides the chalk and cheese relationship between Athletic director Scott
- 11:02Speaker 2: Strickland and Lane Kiffin did not get along. That was
- 11:05Speaker 2: a factor from what I've heard. Additionally, Florida has a GM.
- 11:10Speaker 2: We have GMs now. And now you have to do
- 11:12Speaker 2: the NFL thing where you go, does the throne get
- 11:15Speaker 2: along with the ex-checker? Does the treasury get along with
- 11:18Speaker 2: the presidency? Do the people doing the budgeting and the
- 11:22Speaker 2: talent prospecting, are they on the same page with the coach?
- 11:25Speaker 2: Right now, Florida has something which may be a problem
- 11:27Speaker 2: for them. They have a GM who operates co-equally with
- 11:30Speaker 2: the coach. And that is both report to the athletic director.
- 11:34Speaker 2: At LSU, that will not be the case. Lane did
- 11:37Speaker 2: not want that at Florida. He's going to take Ole Miss'
- 11:39Speaker 2: personnel guy, who, to be fair, if you look at
- 11:42Speaker 2: the number of people that they've prospected, that's probably one
- 11:45Speaker 2: of the dudes who had a hand in getting Trinidad Chambliss.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Probably one of the guys who built this roster that's
- 11:49Speaker 2: filled with talented, skilled players who all can do exactly
- 11:52Speaker 2: what they need them to do on offense, at least.
- 11:55Speaker 2: That's what Lane gets there. So that's a factor as well.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and so.
- 12:00Speaker 3: We'll just see what kind of defense they play.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Well, yeah. One, got to get a new defensive coordinator
- 12:07Speaker 2: because Ole Miss is now in the hands of Pete Golding.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Hey, I told the people on the show on Monday
- 12:15Speaker 1: that I saw a picture of him, and they said
- 12:18Speaker 1: he was head coach. I was like, oh, that man
- 12:19Speaker 1: can't be the head coach, looking at that beard and
- 12:22Speaker 1: everything else. And I was like, oh, but maybe it's
- 12:24Speaker 1: just that picture. And then I went and looked up
- 12:26Speaker 1: more pictures.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Nope.
- 12:27Speaker 2: It just gets worse.
- 12:28Speaker 1: You can't make– I can't believe that man's the head
- 12:30Speaker 1: coach of anything. But I talked about this. I don't
- 12:33Speaker 1: know if anybody's followed up on it. I'm curious your thoughts.
- 12:35Speaker 1: But I don't think that what is discussed nearly enough
- 12:37Speaker 1: about the Ole Miss part is the staggering leverage that
- 12:39Speaker 1: all of those assistant coaches had in that moment as
- 12:42Speaker 1: they are trying to hold together what this season is.
- 12:44Speaker 1: You don't want to wind up like Florida State where
- 12:46Speaker 1: one thing went bad and you thought you were going
- 12:48Speaker 1: to the playoff and then nothing has been the same
- 12:50Speaker 1: since everybody decided they weren't going to do something.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Right? Right.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Right. Ole Miss, they got to hold it together.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And I think they, a few of those guys are
- 12:58Speaker 1: going to Ole Miss, but I mean to LSU, but
- 13:01Speaker 1: some of those guys are going to stay because they
- 13:03Speaker 1: have to, and they will be compensated handsomely for this.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They will. And they're going to get a nice two
- 13:09Speaker 2: to three year run out of this and we'll see
- 13:12Speaker 2: how it goes. I don't think I've ever heard anyone
- 13:15Speaker 2: saying Pete Golding was an obvious coaching candidate. That's let's
- 13:20Speaker 2: just remember that it's not like, Oh, up-and-coming assistant. You
- 13:24Speaker 2: know who that would be? That'd be Will Stein. Will
- 13:26Speaker 2: Stein just got the gig at Kentucky. Former Louisville quarterback
- 13:29Speaker 2: who was the offensive coordinator at Oregon. He is now
- 13:32Speaker 2: in charge of reviving the Kentucky program. I think he's
- 13:35Speaker 2: going to do that. He's very smart, very energetic. It'll
- 13:37Speaker 2: be cool. No one ever said that about Pete Golding.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Pete Golding was like Wizard of the Whiteboard. If you
- 13:43Speaker 2: say Wizard of the Whiteboard, that means you don't necessarily
- 13:47Speaker 2: want that guy in a press conference. No, no, no, no.
- 13:50Speaker 2: This is your brother, Bill Oliver type, right? This is
- 13:52Speaker 2: somebody who is going to be in the background. He's
- 13:55Speaker 2: going to be a staunch assistant, but now he's being
- 13:58Speaker 2: put in a role where he's going to be perhaps
- 14:02Speaker 2: out in the spotlight and maybe a bit uncomfortable at first.
- 14:06Speaker 2: And he's going to do this in a low pressure
- 14:07Speaker 2: situation called the college football playoff. There's your coaching debut.
- 14:13Speaker 2: You are in the college football playoff. You're not starting
- 14:16Speaker 2: up against like, you know, Weber state. That's not happening.
- 14:19Speaker 2: You're not starting off against Alcorn. You're debuting against heavy hitters.
- 14:24Speaker 2: So good luck, Pete, man. Good luck.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I'd also like to point out that he used to
- 14:30Speaker 1: be the defensive coordinator at Alabama. And then he was
- 14:32Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss. And it's not because
- 14:35Speaker 1: he did such a great fucking job at Alabama.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Although, to be fair, to be fair, I will give
- 14:42Speaker 2: him this. That's late Saban. That's late Saban where maybe
- 14:45Speaker 2: the recruiting isn't quite the one-to-one fit at positions where
- 14:50Speaker 2: it once was. So I'm going to give him a
- 14:53Speaker 2: little latitude on that. He did a pretty good job
- 14:55Speaker 2: at Ole Miss. But if you were trying to take
- 14:56Speaker 2: somebody off that staff, that is not pick one. All right.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Now, this leads us to a good little transition here
- 15:02Speaker 1: because we're going to– I feel like all we can
- 15:06Speaker 1: say with Lane, honestly, at LSU is we're going to
- 15:08Speaker 1: see they're going to be the primary story in college football,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and I will give them this. Every other coach in
- 15:13Speaker 1: the country is bull ring, and Lane is not. Like,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I appreciate having somebody to viscerally despise in the way
- 15:21Speaker 1: that I realize that I despise this man with whom
- 15:23Speaker 1: I've only spoken one time.
- 15:25Speaker 2: But it is going to make things better.
- 15:26Speaker 1: The thing is, I kind of like LSU, because I
- 15:28Speaker 1: got a lot of friends that are around LSU.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And I don't know how I feel about this.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I sent Ryan Clark a text and said, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I always hate it when a team I root for,
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know, brings on a clown. And we talked about it.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I said that to Marcus Spears, and I've got no reply.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I got to run this by Van and see what
- 15:48Speaker 3: he thinks.
- 15:49Speaker 2: No, he's already in. That's it.
- 15:52Speaker 3: You know why he's in?
- 15:52Speaker 1: Because there's no other option but to be in. No
- 15:55Speaker 1: matter who it is, no matter what it is, once
- 15:57Speaker 1: it happens, you got no choice but to be in.
- 16:00Speaker 3: And so they are going to be in until they
- 16:03Speaker 3: aren't in.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, listen, everyone has to do this this time
- 16:06Speaker 2: of year. LSU, by the way, would have been in anyway.
- 16:09Speaker 2: If we had taken... Attila the Hun, and we had
- 16:12Speaker 2: made him head coach at LSU. Oh, man. I'm all
- 16:16Speaker 2: about the Magyar Empire. That's right. Down with the Hun.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I'm good with it. Yeah. If it had been Dracula,
- 16:24Speaker 2: they would have been thrilled. They would have been like,
- 16:25Speaker 2: that's why we play at night. That's why we play
- 16:27Speaker 2: at night. Yes.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Vampires for life.
- 16:31Speaker 2: LSU is just going to be in no matter what
- 16:34Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin does. Like to the point that that man
- 16:36Speaker 2: could shoot somebody. He could. He could shoot somebody, and
- 16:39Speaker 2: they'd be like, hey, we've all been there. No, we haven't. No,
- 16:44Speaker 2: we haven't. Maybe you have. I have not. It does
- 16:47Speaker 2: not matter, right? It doesn't matter how much creep shit
- 16:51Speaker 2: that comes out from Ole Miss about Lane Kiffin there.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It doesn't matter how much– I don't know if you've
- 16:58Speaker 2: seen the hot yoga instructors of the world are uniting
- 17:02Speaker 2: against Lane Kiffin for his boorish behavior in classes at
- 17:06Speaker 2: Ole Miss. No. No. Oh, an aficionado of hot yoga.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And on TikTok, hot yoga instructors from Ole Miss, from
- 17:14Speaker 2: the particular studio he went to, was like, yeah, he
- 17:17Speaker 2: farted in class and blamed it on a girl. He'd
- 17:19Speaker 2: sit there and he wouldn't follow directions. He was just
- 17:22Speaker 2: doing bicep curls while we were all in child's pose.
- 17:25Speaker 2: He was apparently just going in and freestyling.
- 17:28Speaker 1: After all this stuff we heard about him in the yoga,
- 17:31Speaker 1: he wasn't actually doing yoga.
- 17:32Speaker 3: He was just going to the yoga studio. And we
- 17:35Speaker 3: all know what that means.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I think he started with it, and then he was like,
- 17:39Speaker 2: let me freestyle on this. And they were not appreciative
- 17:42Speaker 2: of that.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I just want to point out that that kind of
- 17:45Speaker 1: stuff is what got Ed Ogeron fired, not the losing.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Which, one day we will have a long investigative series
- 17:54Speaker 2: on the alleged tales of Ed Ogeron hitting on people.
- 17:59Speaker 2: I do not, for one, I do not think they
- 18:01Speaker 2: were true. I don't think they were true at all.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I've come around with you on this one.
- 18:05Speaker 1: That when he saw the woman at the gas station
- 18:07Speaker 1: and asked where she worked out and she was like,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm married. And he's like, what's the point? I have
- 18:12Speaker 1: come around. I think he might've wanted to work out.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I mean, first of all, I don't think that entire
- 18:18Speaker 2: story is true. Second, he really might've wanted to work out.
- 18:21Speaker 2: If that story is true. Have you seen Ed? Ed
- 18:25Speaker 2: is in his sixties and he looks like he could
- 18:28Speaker 2: beat your ass.
- 18:30Speaker 3: That's, so the man would love to that's the other
- 18:34Speaker 3: part he would have.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Been like good form good job good job anybody ever
- 18:38Speaker 2: told you you're a natural lifter like that's that's what
- 18:41Speaker 2: he would do right and then maybe a relationship blossoms
- 18:44Speaker 2: from there and by the way free and clear at
- 18:47Speaker 2: that point none of this was off the books right
- 18:50Speaker 2: because ed at that point his divorce was clear yes
- 18:53Speaker 2: that was done it was a single man Right? I did.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Look, that was my favorite part of this story is
- 18:58Speaker 1: all these married men who do all this dirt and
- 19:01Speaker 1: everybody finds a way to let it slide because they
- 19:03Speaker 1: need to keep it low.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Ozeron's problem was that there was no reason to keep
- 19:06Speaker 3: it low.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Therefore, I mean, oh my God. And bringing the kids
- 19:10Speaker 1: to practice. That's never going to, that was never going
- 19:13Speaker 1: to stop.
- 19:14Speaker 2: No. That's amazing. And, you know, there's also this, and
- 19:19Speaker 2: this is going to happen with various coaches who are
- 19:22Speaker 2: under pressure is that all of a sudden we've become
- 19:24Speaker 2: privity to their private lives. And there's a lot of
- 19:27Speaker 2: things that I can say about you. I can be like, OK,
- 19:29Speaker 2: I don't think that's necessarily cool or that's weird or man,
- 19:33Speaker 2: that seems like too many women to date at once.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Your scheduling must be incredible, especially given the 60 to
- 19:38Speaker 2: 70 hour weeks that you're working. I don't see it
- 19:41Speaker 2: being very rewarding for anyone. However, it's not in the contract.
- 19:45Speaker 2: It's not breaking a law. Then then all we can
- 19:49Speaker 2: do is laugh. that's really all we can do and
- 19:53Speaker 2: i will return to this if old miss does not
- 19:55Speaker 2: play if old miss does not play at least the
- 19:58Speaker 2: instrumental version of area codes or of houdini's i'm a
- 20:03Speaker 2: hoe okay or some other variation it's ludicrous.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Oh, that's the one that's coming down.
- 20:13Speaker 3: They're going to play every single one of them.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I don't even know if they're.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Allowed to play rap at the Mississippi Stadium, but if
- 20:21Speaker 1: they haven't before, they will be soon. He also gets
- 20:23Speaker 1: to make a run by Tennessee this year. It is
- 20:27Speaker 1: like all the scoring lane lovers.
- 20:30Speaker 2: They're all there.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Why don't they schedule an exhibition game against the Raiders?
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah, don't do it. Don't do it because now everybody
- 20:37Speaker 2: is reminded that Al Davis, though Al Davis did have
- 20:40Speaker 2: some ideas that maybe weren't necessarily practical. The 40-yard pass downfield,
- 20:45Speaker 2: not a base play. Yes. Not a first down play
- 20:47Speaker 2: every first down. Al was right about some things. And
- 20:53Speaker 2: that's this, that when you fire Lane Kiffin, he does
- 20:56Speaker 2: it in a manner where you're just going to want
- 20:59Speaker 2: to take out a power point, where you're going to
- 21:00Speaker 2: want to crack out an overhead projector. You're going to
- 21:02Speaker 2: want to get vintage with it in terms of how
- 21:05Speaker 2: He leaves.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he hated that man.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 21:11Speaker 1: That's just, it never stops being amazing. And by the way,
- 21:15Speaker 1: when he got the job at Tennessee, he wrote them
- 21:17Speaker 1: a letter to tell them that this man would leave
- 21:21Speaker 1: you with shame and dishonor.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And what do you know? By the way, like, how mad, like,
- 21:28Speaker 2: that is anger when an old man's going to crack
- 21:31Speaker 2: out a letter, right? Like, because we both have fathers
- 21:34Speaker 2: who are sinners. If you got a letter from your dad,
- 21:36Speaker 2: would you open it? I'd be terrified. I might wait
- 21:39Speaker 2: until he died.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Yeah. I'd be like, I'll open this after you're dead.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I don't want to know what's in it. It's all
- 21:45Speaker 2: the board. It's all the board.
- 21:46Speaker 1: By the way, Spencer, I got to tell you, at
- 21:47Speaker 1: our age, all of our parents are seniors.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Either they were seniors or they were freshmen and you
- 21:54Speaker 3: were born.
- 21:55Speaker 2: We're just at that.
- 21:56Speaker 3: We're at that place. Now, I have this, though.
- 21:57Speaker 1: This is a coaching thing that I've seen, and I
- 22:00Speaker 1: don't know that much about it, but I still find
- 22:02Speaker 1: it interesting. Two guys are about to be coaching at
- 22:04Speaker 1: much different schools than they used to be, at least
- 22:06Speaker 1: one of them.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Pat Fitzgerald, who used to coach at Northwestern.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And apparently he has on some level been absolved of
- 22:12Speaker 1: their running dick gauntlets at training camp at Northwestern, and
- 22:15Speaker 1: he is not responsible for all the dick-rubbing that they
- 22:19Speaker 1: were doing, if you say so.
- 22:23Speaker 3: But he is now going to go to Michigan State.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And also, the head coach at BYU, Sataki, I don't
- 22:28Speaker 1: really know anything about him, but apparently he is the
- 22:30Speaker 1: focus of the Penn State search. And I am very
- 22:33Speaker 1: curious about the possibility that these two guys now go
- 22:36Speaker 1: to jobs where they can and have.
- 22:39Speaker 2: To recruit everybody.
- 22:42Speaker 1: After before really only talking to a subset of people
- 22:45Speaker 1: that spoke.
- 22:46Speaker 2: A certain language. Oh no, no, no, no, no.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Like it's gotta be such a relief for Sataki.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Like for, for Fitzgerald is no longer, man, I gotta
- 22:54Speaker 1: see if they go and get to grades for Sataki.
- 22:57Speaker 1: It's like, I no longer have to explain to them
- 23:00Speaker 1: that the best part about being an athlete is not
- 23:02Speaker 1: on the board here.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yeah. So one Dick gauntlets were essential to the greatness
- 23:09Speaker 2: of Northwestern football. Pat Fitzgerald, That's why he did them.
- 23:13Speaker 2: And that's why Michigan State is just fine with it.
- 23:16Speaker 2: By the way, Michigan State, not exactly the place where
- 23:20Speaker 2: maybe we want to hire a coach who created a
- 23:23Speaker 2: toxic culture. But what do I know? What do I know?
- 23:25Speaker 2: I'm not paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to run
- 23:28Speaker 2: an athletic department. I'm sure there's some arcane knowledge that
- 23:32Speaker 2: I'm not privileged to where maybe we shouldn't hire that guy.
- 23:36Speaker 2: You know, was it overblown? I don't know what we
- 23:39Speaker 2: don't overblow. Was it bad? Yeah, it was bad. You
- 23:43Speaker 2: don't want people doing that in your football program. Now
- 23:45Speaker 2: Michigan State's got to hire this guy who is, let's rewind,
- 23:49Speaker 2: a retread. A good football coach, but this is a retread. Yes.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You're trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. It's
- 23:54Speaker 2: a much different environment. And by the way, who says
- 23:57Speaker 2: he's going to be better with players With lower academic standards.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Everyone's a niche. Everyone is somebody who's successful at one
- 24:04Speaker 2: place with very specific conditions. The rare individual is somebody
- 24:07Speaker 2: who is successful at a number of different places under
- 24:10Speaker 2: different conditions, right? Steve Spurrier, for example. Or Bob Chesney,
- 24:15Speaker 2: the guy that UCLA just hired, right? There's a lot
- 24:18Speaker 2: of people getting each other's jobs that's happening right now.
- 24:22Speaker 2: It's fascinating. John Summerall was custom cut agent pitching him
- 24:25Speaker 2: as the next Pat Dye of programs.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Coach a guy in bike shorts with a whistle right
- 24:31Speaker 4: a dude a killer a defensive guy born to run
- 24:35Speaker 4: the ball and do great things and you know in
- 24:37Speaker 4: the old sec he'd be this like eight and four
- 24:39Speaker 4: guy who had a job for 15 years and people
- 24:41Speaker 4: were like i think.
- 24:43Speaker 2: He has a good family and he's a good man
- 24:45Speaker 2: right perfect auburn casting where does he go florida he
- 24:49Speaker 2: goes to florida the place that wanted lane kiffin at
- 24:52Speaker 2: first the place that employed steve spurrier urban meyer or
- 24:55Speaker 2: any other number of mercenaries who just wanted to kill
- 24:59Speaker 2: where did the guy who could have gone to florida
- 25:01Speaker 2: go alex golish right offensive offense first already coaching in
- 25:05Speaker 2: the state of florida he went to auburn who now
- 25:08Speaker 2: auburn fans are like um just we like the russian
- 25:11Speaker 2: guy right we like that's alexi golish by the way
- 25:13Speaker 2: born in russia and came to the united states at
- 25:16Speaker 2: the age of four is that going to keep auburn
- 25:18Speaker 2: fans from just like Blatantly putting tigers in old Soviet
- 25:21Speaker 2: propaganda and posting them on the internet. No, they're already
- 25:24Speaker 2: doing it. It's already happening, man. Chesney goes to UCLA.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Chesney has won, by the way, at the ECAC's finest, right?
- 25:35Speaker 2: Finest private Catholic institutions. Oh, before that, Assumption? um, yeah,
- 25:42Speaker 2: like Bob, he coached at someplace before that the name
- 25:44Speaker 2: is escaping me that has like a saint in it. Um,
- 25:47Speaker 2: like he was coaching at places where I know he
- 25:49Speaker 2: did the laundry, right? Um, he has three stops before he,
- 25:53Speaker 2: he has three stops all before he gets there. James Madison,
- 25:56Speaker 2: which by the way, we're talking about like, Hey, you
- 25:58Speaker 2: succeeded in a big program. James Madison. Okay. It's still
- 26:01Speaker 2: James Madison. I know it's the largest public university in Virginia. Okay.
- 26:05Speaker 2: By enrollment. And you know what that means, right? You're like, Yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 2: it's the biggest one by enrollment. You go, oh, the
- 26:11Speaker 2: former commuter school that's got to glow up, right? And
- 26:13Speaker 2: that happens to have a superb football program that's managed
- 26:17Speaker 2: very well. That guy could have taken the Penn State job.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I think that's like, if you look at the pattern,
- 26:24Speaker 2: he should have gone there. You go, okay, regional, sort
- 26:27Speaker 2: of in the area, definitely like the workaday, blue-collar type
- 26:31Speaker 2: guy who's on the come-up. He goes to UCLA. Okay.
- 26:34Speaker 2: which is a complete wild card of a hire. And
- 26:36Speaker 2: then Kalani Satake, who could have gone to UCLA as
- 26:38Speaker 2: a West Coast recruiter, somebody with roots there, he might
- 26:41Speaker 2: be going to Penn State. He might already be at
- 26:43Speaker 2: Penn State by the time anyone hears this, Bo. And
- 26:47Speaker 2: so there's a lot of very weird default choices going
- 26:50Speaker 2: to the second step and going to the place where
- 26:52Speaker 2: they were listed as either the primary or secondary. It's
- 26:55Speaker 2: a very weird market, active and weird.
- 26:57Speaker 1: BYU, to me, sneaky good job that I would be
- 27:01Speaker 1: reluctant to leave because if they got anything over there,
- 27:04Speaker 1: it's money. They got money, and they have a conference
- 27:08Speaker 1: in which they may be the best job.
- 27:12Speaker 3: In the Big 12. When you really stop and think
- 27:14Speaker 3: about it, you can.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Make an argument that they are. You have a built-in
- 27:18Speaker 2: recruiting pitch. Yes. If the money doesn't do it, maybe
- 27:22Speaker 2: God will. Yeah. Maybe culture will. I don't have to—
- 27:26Speaker 2: You don't have to function as a Mormon, as an outsider, right?
- 27:28Speaker 2: Not that that doesn't happen every day. Not that Mormons
- 27:31Speaker 2: aren't completely fluent moving from one sphere of their life
- 27:34Speaker 2: to another and balancing their faith against a public role. Sorry, Mormons,
- 27:38Speaker 2: if you're listening to this, but, but you have a
- 27:41Speaker 2: built-in recruiting pitch where it's easy. It's easy. You're just
- 27:44Speaker 2: going to the place where everyone does this already. Yeah.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And in addition to that, they're all a little older.
- 27:50Speaker 2: If you look at those guys, they, They've always hit
- 27:52Speaker 2: with the violence of people who got up with the kids.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Yep, that's what I'm saying.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Those are grown men who they're playing football to get away.
- 28:01Speaker 2: That's less true than it used to be, but there's
- 28:03Speaker 2: still people there who are like, yeah, I got to
- 28:06Speaker 2: play this game. Then the wife and I are going
- 28:08Speaker 2: to Costco tomorrow morning. That's a concern. That's a legitimate concern.
- 28:12Speaker 1: We need to put together a list of those programs
- 28:14Speaker 1: whose secret sauce is we old.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Kansas State. We old. These boys need this in.
- 28:23Speaker 2: A different way. Kansas State had guys who were like.
- 28:27Speaker 2: You know, so I was roughnecking. That's good money. That's
- 28:31Speaker 2: good money. But, you know, I'll tell you, it's a
- 28:34Speaker 2: hard life. It's a hard life out there. It's lonely, too.
- 28:36Speaker 2: It's lonely. So I thought I'd come back to football because,
- 28:40Speaker 2: you know, Laramie wasn't being good to me. Like, that's...
- 28:43Speaker 2: That is very, very real. And I think you could
- 28:47Speaker 2: play with a rage that you can only get if
- 28:48Speaker 2: you have five hours sleep and two kids. That's what
- 28:53Speaker 2: BYU hits with. It's a great gig. By the way,
- 28:55Speaker 2: can we just go ahead and highlight that the Big 12,
- 28:57Speaker 2: I know we're going to make fun of the ACC
- 28:59Speaker 2: a little bit inevitably because the ACC has a title
- 29:02Speaker 2: game where the two best teams may not be in it.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Virginia plays Duke because of conference records and how things
- 29:09Speaker 2: line up in that conference because it is a bucket
- 29:11Speaker 2: of crabs. And everyone points and laughs and goes, ha,
- 29:14Speaker 2: who's going to watch that on TV? BYU plays Texas
- 29:18Speaker 2: Tech for the Big 12 championship. This used to be
- 29:23Speaker 2: Texas playing some other relatively large market team, right? And
- 29:28Speaker 2: the Big 12 has morphed into this mutant where we
- 29:30Speaker 2: have Lubbock v. Provo. It's way, way less comfortable when
- 29:35Speaker 2: I say it that way. byu texas tech sounds all
- 29:37Speaker 2: right but i'm like provo versus lubbock the two metropolises all.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Right coming up next week i'm going to talk about
- 29:45Speaker 1: the actual football of the weekend you know there was
- 29:48Speaker 1: once upon a time this is a highly anticipated weekend
- 29:50Speaker 1: and now we just talk about lane kiffin All right, Spencer,
- 29:54Speaker 1: it is championship game weekend. And a big discussion in
- 29:57Speaker 1: the Lane Kiffin saga is the calendar, the calendar, the calendar.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It's the calendar's fault that this guy doesn't know how
- 30:03Speaker 1: to act like an adult, right? It's the calendar's fault
- 30:05Speaker 1: that unfortunately you had to make a tough decision, a
- 30:09Speaker 1: one or the other. And somehow you thought that you
- 30:11Speaker 1: could get away with both. And then you're trying to
- 30:13Speaker 1: piss on our head after you get to this other part.
- 30:15Speaker 1: But we have actual factual football. And I do want
- 30:18Speaker 1: to point out as we talk about the calendar, it
- 30:20Speaker 1: does stink. in the way that everything runs, in the
- 30:23Speaker 1: way the playoff is now set up, this feels very
- 30:27Speaker 1: anticlimactic and in some ways confusing as to what it
- 30:32Speaker 1: is that you're supposed to do with a team that
- 30:34Speaker 1: loses in a conference championship game, which is to say,
- 30:37Speaker 1: what's going to happen to Alabama and Kalen DeBoer if
- 30:40Speaker 1: they lose this game to Georgia that in theory should
- 30:43Speaker 1: not knock them out of the playoff if they lose,
- 30:45Speaker 1: but probably will?
- 30:47Speaker 2: Probably will. I would win this game if I were him.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Because Alabama does not like it when you lose SEC
- 30:55Speaker 2: title games. They do not like it when you lose
- 30:58Speaker 2: at all. Kalen DeBoer has been an interesting piece in
- 31:01Speaker 2: all of this because Kalen DeBoer has been at least
- 31:04Speaker 2: put as a possibility at all of the following places. USC.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Penn State. School to be named later after we vacate
- 31:16Speaker 2: Coach X. He's been this sort of question mark. And
- 31:22Speaker 2: no one asked him about any of this because we
- 31:25Speaker 2: just assume Alabama's that volatile. We just assume they're going
- 31:29Speaker 2: to throw him out. And no one's questioned it. I
- 31:31Speaker 2: say this with people like in this industry who, when
- 31:35Speaker 2: talking about whether coaches are going to move or whether
- 31:37Speaker 2: USC is going to get rid of Lincoln or Texas
- 31:39Speaker 2: Tech is going to fire Joey McGuire if he trails
- 31:42Speaker 2: for a single quarter. There's a lot of that. But
- 31:46Speaker 2: everyone takes as a given that Alabama's volatile, and I
- 31:48Speaker 2: don't know if, at least on DeBoer's end, that that's true. Because,
- 31:53Speaker 2: by all reports, he's pretty happy there. Because you know
- 31:57Speaker 2: who else has the keys? Kalen DeBoer. Because they have
- 32:00Speaker 2: to trust him at this point. Alabama's too big a product,
- 32:03Speaker 2: and everything's riding on his good decision-making, and they've let
- 32:06Speaker 2: him have whatever he wants. Quietly, he's got the Lane
- 32:10Speaker 2: Kiffin deal. Whatever you need, whatever you want, we're going
- 32:13Speaker 2: to give it to you. And we won't have to
- 32:15Speaker 2: be freaks about it like those guys in Baton Rouge. Right.
- 32:19Speaker 2: So I don't think I think that's maybe now I
- 32:22Speaker 2: know it'd be fun if we could just throw Alabama
- 32:24Speaker 2: into this mix. But right now, the messiest program is LSU.
- 32:29Speaker 2: That's because they have Lane Kiffin as their coach. Jeff
- 32:31Speaker 2: Landry is their governor. And because Le Bon Temps continue
- 32:35Speaker 2: to rule. It's just a big festive thing. Alabama still
- 32:40Speaker 2: pretty businesslike at this point. I know it'd be fun.
- 32:43Speaker 2: If we could get them riled up. And it would
- 32:45Speaker 2: be fun if they were in chaos. I think they're
- 32:47Speaker 2: probably a little more in order than we might think
- 32:50Speaker 2: they are.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Okay, so I do not make the assumption that with
- 32:54Speaker 1: a loss or whatever that Alabama is going to toss
- 32:56Speaker 1: DeBoer out.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Right? Yeah.
- 32:58Speaker 3: I operate on the assumption that he'll jump ship.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Because again.
- 33:03Speaker 3: I've seen this happen several times.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Alabama did not want Franchoni to leave. He just looked
- 33:12Speaker 1: around and was like, well, first of all, you guys
- 33:13Speaker 1: lied to me. But he just looked around and was like, oh,
- 33:16Speaker 1: hell no. Anytime somebody's like, yeah, College Station, here I come.
- 33:21Speaker 2: What?
- 33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that right there. Not what's up. Ray Perkins,
- 33:25Speaker 1: he jumped ship. There's another one I just can't remember
- 33:29Speaker 1: right now, but that is always my, I mean, Nick
- 33:31Speaker 1: Saban was about to jump ship. We cannot forget that
- 33:34Speaker 1: the Texas job was right there. And if they had
- 33:37Speaker 1: just done it right, he would have jumped ship on
- 33:39Speaker 1: this one. The look on DeBoer's face when they scored
- 33:42Speaker 1: that touchdown at the fourth quarter to take the league
- 33:45Speaker 1: of utter relief. Just like, oh my God, thanks. I
- 33:51Speaker 1: did not want to have to deal with this again.
- 33:53Speaker 1: That's why if USC were to come open and his
- 33:56Speaker 1: old boss is running the search.
- 33:57Speaker 2: At USC, I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah, he gone. He gone.
- 34:00Speaker 2: He gone.
- 34:00Speaker 1: He gone take that one. But I don't know what
- 34:02Speaker 1: happens if you lose this game. I mean, he's he's
- 34:04Speaker 1: had decent success against Georgia. There's some interesting kind of
- 34:07Speaker 1: circles in this conference. Mike Elko now can't be Steve Sarkeesian,
- 34:11Speaker 1: but Steve Sarkeesian apparently can't be Kirby Smart. But Kirby Smart,
- 34:14Speaker 1: not so great when it comes to playing against Alabama.
- 34:17Speaker 1: It just kind of goes in this rotation. But if
- 34:19Speaker 1: Alabama loses this one, there's a three loss. Alabama make
- 34:23Speaker 1: this playoff. My guess is no.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I think it depends on how they lose. This is
- 34:28Speaker 2: one of those ones where I think if the committee
- 34:30Speaker 2: is looking at it and they want to put Alabama in,
- 34:33Speaker 2: they will, if it's close. And I think this will
- 34:35Speaker 2: be a close game. And I don't think that has
- 34:37Speaker 2: a lot to do with Alabama. I think that's on Georgia.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I think Georgia just plays tight games this year. You know,
- 34:43Speaker 2: they don't have an ability to sort of take big
- 34:47Speaker 2: 21 point chunks out of people on offense and defensively.
- 34:51Speaker 2: They're very good, but they also don't do that thing where, Whoops,
- 34:55Speaker 2: three interceptions in a quarter. You're now losing by 17 points.
- 34:58Speaker 2: They don't do that. This is more of an anaconda
- 35:01Speaker 2: type team. This is, by the way, Kirby Smart couldn't
- 35:04Speaker 2: be happier. This is ideal Kirby Smart football. 16-9. How
- 35:08Speaker 2: did we win? Toughness. That's how we won. We won
- 35:11Speaker 2: with toughness. That's it. Did you win with brains? No. No.
- 35:16Speaker 2: We left our brains in the locker room, right? I
- 35:19Speaker 2: got Mike Bobo calling plays. No one's going to be happy.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Me and Ryan were talking before the show about how
- 35:24Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin is 100% not my kind of guy as human.
- 35:28Speaker 1: But as football coach, Kirby Smart is 100% not your
- 35:33Speaker 1: kind of guy in any form or fashion whatsoever. He's
- 35:37Speaker 1: a better version of Will Muschamp, who was not just
- 35:40Speaker 1: not your kind of guy.
- 35:41Speaker 2: He was also your team's coach. Yeah, I'm not. Okay.
- 35:46Speaker 2: As I've aged, I've at least I respect the guy.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Who thinks that football should be won by a field
- 35:51Speaker 2: goal in the fourth quarter. I do. I also hate
- 35:55Speaker 2: it for the same reason that I hate clearing my
- 35:57Speaker 2: bills by a dollar. Right. I don't like it. I
- 36:01Speaker 2: like big margins. I want to feel safe. Give me
- 36:04Speaker 2: a coach that feels safe. Right. They're like, Hey, you
- 36:06Speaker 2: know what? Our toughness is going to get us through this.
- 36:08Speaker 2: And I'm like a 38 point lead. It'll get you
- 36:11Speaker 2: through this.
- 36:13Speaker 3: You're like, you know, I don't want a great fourth
- 36:15Speaker 3: quarter team. I want a great third quarter team.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Third quarter team. I want you to foreclose on them. Okay.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Like I respect what Ohio state's doing by playing as
- 36:24Speaker 2: little football as possible to get to the playoff. That's
- 36:27Speaker 2: the smartest thing. Could you guys just hang 50 on somebody?
- 36:31Speaker 2: Hang 50. I know you could, but you don't want
- 36:33Speaker 2: to because you go, well, we can burn the clock.
- 36:35Speaker 2: We can just get out of here. It's fine. Cool.
- 36:37Speaker 2: It's a job to you. Do you know what? Make
- 36:38Speaker 2: me feel better as a fan flames. Like, You know,
- 36:42Speaker 2: Curtis LeMay, the head of the Strategic Air Command, was
- 36:45Speaker 2: once asked why he needed 10 times as many bombs
- 36:48Speaker 2: to destroy a target as was necessary. Because in the
- 36:53Speaker 2: words of the interrogator, the questioner said, why do you
- 36:56Speaker 2: need to reduce everything? You know, it's already done. You've
- 37:01Speaker 2: already reduced everything to cinders, right? It's all ashes. And
- 37:03Speaker 2: he goes, yeah, but I want to watch the ashes dance.
- 37:06Speaker 2: And it's like, that's the kind of psychopath I want
- 37:08Speaker 2: as a head coach. Dan Lanning. When Dan Lanning gets
- 37:11Speaker 2: that chance, that's what he does. He's like, hey, you
- 37:13Speaker 2: know what's better than a 14-point lead? A 21-point lead.
- 37:16Speaker 2: You know what's better than a 21-point lead? 28-point lead.
- 37:18Speaker 2: So I respect it, Kirby. I do get it. I
- 37:21Speaker 2: really love that emphasis on the process and on dominating
- 37:24Speaker 2: people every down. You know what else I like? I
- 37:27Speaker 2: like annihilation. I like watching a team do that because
- 37:30Speaker 2: I'm nervous. I'd really prefer to be up by 40.
- 37:32Speaker 2: All right.
- 37:33Speaker 3: I want to point out something. Speaking of teams.
- 37:36Speaker 1: That are by 40, talk about this with Ohio State.
- 37:39Speaker 1: And they are playing Indiana this week in. OK, so
- 37:43Speaker 1: one of the arguments that anti-playoff people and to be clear,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I have always been an anti-playoff person. And the actual
- 37:48Speaker 1: existence of the playoff has only made me more resolute
- 37:51Speaker 1: and clearer than ever that I was right in the
- 37:53Speaker 1: first place. One of the arguments was that these regular
- 37:57Speaker 1: season games are just not going to hit like they
- 38:00Speaker 1: used to. And I've heard people make the spin. But no, look,
- 38:03Speaker 1: the ratings are up for da da da and all
- 38:05Speaker 1: of this stuff.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Fine.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I'm just telling you this week that there's a one
- 38:09Speaker 1: versus two matchup in the Big Ten championship game. And
- 38:11Speaker 1: it is the least anticipated one versus two matchup that
- 38:15Speaker 1: I think we have ever had. In part because of
- 38:19Speaker 1: having this playoff that's just going to run next week.
- 38:22Speaker 1: And I think now, granted, these teams, Michigan and Michigan
- 38:26Speaker 1: and Indy fucking Anna. But these teams haven't really played
- 38:31Speaker 1: much of anybody. Ohio State had the big win against
- 38:33Speaker 1: Texas to start the season. Since then, no win to
- 38:37Speaker 1: truly speak of. Indiana has, I mean, honestly, what might
- 38:40Speaker 1: be the best win anybody has this year, that win
- 38:43Speaker 1: at Oregon by 10 points.
- 38:45Speaker 3: I do want to point this out, though.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Indiana has given up 24 to Penn State and 20
- 38:52Speaker 1: to Oregon, and that's the most points they've given up
- 38:55Speaker 1: all year long. Ohio State has not given up more
- 38:59Speaker 1: than 16 points this year. These two teams have been
- 39:04Speaker 1: annihilating people. Like Ohio State, the closest they had to
- 39:08Speaker 1: the scare was Texas. Indiana had the one against Penn State.
- 39:12Speaker 1: But these two teams have been waxing people, but it's
- 39:15Speaker 1: in part because of the calendar, because they're waxing people
- 39:17Speaker 1: because all they play against is floors.
- 39:20Speaker 3: That's it.
- 39:21Speaker 2: So the joke of the Big Ten is that everybody's
- 39:24Speaker 2: a flavor of Purdue, right? Wisconsin, that's Derry, Derry-Purdue, right?
- 39:29Speaker 2: That's Cowboys. Purdue. You know, Illinois, that science Purdue, which
- 39:35Speaker 2: I know, sorry, Purdue, your rocket science, Purdue, not general science.
- 39:40Speaker 2: You know, even Penn state became ice cream Purdue this year.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Like they are all different variations of Purdue. It's, One
- 39:47Speaker 2: of the reasons we're not excited about this one, too,
- 39:49Speaker 2: is because of the calendar. We've talked about the calendar.
- 39:51Speaker 2: The calendar, nothing in this sport is built for the calendar.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Nothing in this sport makes sense because of the calendar.
- 39:56Speaker 2: It's like 90 different people planned it without looking to
- 39:59Speaker 2: see what overlapped. By the way, did you know that
- 40:01Speaker 2: we're two, I believe two days at this point, shy
- 40:04Speaker 2: of an early signing day, which.
- 40:06Speaker 3: Is all in the middle of this? The worst idea
- 40:07Speaker 3: they ever had, by the way.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Dumb. Dumb.
- 40:11Speaker 1: To me, that's the biggest one. That's the biggest thing
- 40:13Speaker 1: that's messed up the calendar. That's the one that's getting
- 40:15Speaker 1: people fired in September.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Yeah. it accelerated all of this. Like it made everything
- 40:20Speaker 2: much less stable. There's no coaches and their hiring period
- 40:25Speaker 2: can't coordinate with recruits and their signing period, which can't
- 40:28Speaker 2: coordinate with the schedule, which by the way, the big
- 40:31Speaker 2: 10 schedule sucks this year, but that's not necessarily the
- 40:34Speaker 2: big 10s fault. It's not, it's just the quality of
- 40:37Speaker 2: teams right now, the big 10, by having so many
- 40:40Speaker 2: teams at that bottom of the big 10, the bottom
- 40:42Speaker 2: five or six teams, it's as bad as you'll see
- 40:45Speaker 2: in any conference. maybe worse just because one conference is huge.
- 40:50Speaker 2: You're going to have more bad teams and more good teams,
- 40:52Speaker 2: but at the top, it's so stratified, you know, Ohio
- 40:56Speaker 2: state will beat Indiana. I feel real confident saying that
- 41:00Speaker 2: if they do lose to Indiana, then that is, that
- 41:04Speaker 2: should go down as one of the great upsets in
- 41:06Speaker 2: college football history. I, I know Indiana has been great
- 41:09Speaker 2: this year and they were great last year. And Kurt
- 41:11Speaker 2: Cignetti has done a remarkable job there. One that I
- 41:14Speaker 2: think is like for the books, there is nobody, who
- 41:17Speaker 2: in my mind has engineered a bigger turnaround. Like we're
- 41:21Speaker 2: now putting this in the category of Bill Snyder, Barry Alvarez,
- 41:24Speaker 2: people who have gone in and take programs that are
- 41:26Speaker 2: historical doormats and turned them into mean top tier programs.
- 41:32Speaker 2: That said, if they do upset them, you're going to
- 41:35Speaker 2: have to put another superlative next to Kurt Cignetti's name.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Cause in my mind, that would be the biggest upset
- 41:39Speaker 2: in a championship game in forever years. Like, because this
- 41:44Speaker 2: Ohio state team, is that far ahead. Their defense alone
- 41:48Speaker 2: is one of the best teams in the nation. I
- 41:50Speaker 2: just mean their defense, right? If you put them on
- 41:53Speaker 2: the field and punted on offense, I think every game
- 41:55Speaker 2: would probably be three, nothing. And it would be for
- 41:58Speaker 2: Ohio state. So I am looking forward to it, but
- 42:01Speaker 2: I understand why other people aren't because the big 10
- 42:03Speaker 2: has been kind of ass right. Top to bottom. It's
- 42:06Speaker 2: very stratified. All of the qualities at the top and
- 42:08Speaker 2: like two teams. And they've had the most like Penn
- 42:11Speaker 2: state really undermine their national standing by utterly collapsing down
- 42:15Speaker 2: the stretch. You know, they're going to probably finish 6-6.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I think they finished 6-6. Nobody wants to see that
- 42:20Speaker 2: in a bowl game because they were, and I remind everybody,
- 42:23Speaker 2: a preseason top five. The preseason top five this year,
- 42:26Speaker 2: by the way, as inaccurate as it has ever been,
- 42:29Speaker 2: thanks to Penn State and Clemson and Texas, all disappointing.
- 42:32Speaker 2: I know, Texas at 9-3 is disappointing, but look where
- 42:34Speaker 2: they were in the preseason. A top 25.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Number one. One.
- 42:40Speaker 2: This is.
- 42:41Speaker 1: College football is in a dangerous place, though, where the NBA...
- 42:45Speaker 1: had this problem, and I think still has this problem
- 42:47Speaker 1: to a degree, which is all the personnel stuff and
- 42:52Speaker 1: the kind of gossipy stuff started to take precedence over
- 42:57Speaker 1: the actual play. Like, for example, right now in the NBA,
- 43:01Speaker 1: I don't know if you know this, I want to
- 43:02Speaker 1: make sure I get this number exact right, but the
- 43:05Speaker 1: Oklahoma City Thunder is 20-1.
- 43:06Speaker 4: They....
- 43:10Speaker 1: They could win 75.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Games this year, right?
- 43:14Speaker 1: They are super young. They have a top two player
- 43:17Speaker 1: in the NBA. They went 21, by the way, with
- 43:19Speaker 1: their second best player, not being on the team, all
- 43:22Speaker 1: of this. I don't know what it takes for that
- 43:24Speaker 1: to register and really break through, right? But if I
- 43:28Speaker 1: told you there was some big trade that was going
- 43:30Speaker 1: on or something like that, oh, man, everybody would be
- 43:32Speaker 1: all over that.
- 43:33Speaker 3: And that could get the discussion.
- 43:35Speaker 1: The college football right now, again, we're coming into this
- 43:37Speaker 1: week and it's really all about Lane Kiffin. And I
- 43:40Speaker 1: don't know if there's anything that could happen this weekend
- 43:42Speaker 1: that would be more interesting to people than Lane Kiffin.
- 43:45Speaker 1: And I think that's in part because because the conferences
- 43:47Speaker 1: have gotten so big, all these games that get played,
- 43:50Speaker 1: we don't feel like we really know who is and
- 43:52Speaker 1: is not good. just because you don't have the iron
- 43:57Speaker 1: versus iron that you typically had throughout a season. Because
- 44:00Speaker 1: what do you know? Remember when people were like, why
- 44:01Speaker 1: do we even have divisions in conferences? That doesn't make
- 44:04Speaker 1: any sense. No, iteration is important. Consistency in those things
- 44:07Speaker 1: are important. They help us gather information. They help build rivalries.
- 44:11Speaker 1: They help all these things. And now it's a conference
- 44:12Speaker 1: championship weekend that doesn't feel like it matters that much.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and you brought up the NBA. I think it
- 44:18Speaker 2: feels a lot like boxing where– we have obvious heavyweights
- 44:23Speaker 2: and I mean, old school boxing. I don't mean current.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I mean like era of the heavyweights, late seventies, eighties
- 44:28Speaker 2: into the nineties, where you're not going to get a
- 44:31Speaker 2: whole lot of actual marquee matchups. You're going to get
- 44:35Speaker 2: a lot of tomato cans and managing that record, right?
- 44:38Speaker 2: If somebody has 40 and one with one loss, then
- 44:41Speaker 2: of that 40, you're going to see 35 guys. They
- 44:45Speaker 2: pulled off the street, take a beating for cash. And
- 44:49Speaker 2: that's what happens when you make big conferences. When you
- 44:51Speaker 2: have big conferences and you try to rotate schedules and
- 44:53Speaker 2: have everyone play everybody, then you do thin down the
- 44:57Speaker 2: testing metal of that conference. You thin down the competitive
- 45:02Speaker 2: nature of that conference. It's inevitable. And like the Big Ten,
- 45:06Speaker 2: I think, is suffering from this simply because they are
- 45:07Speaker 2: the biggest conference. And I mean that in terms of money.
- 45:10Speaker 2: And I mean that in terms of geographic spread and
- 45:12Speaker 2: in terms of actual number of members. Like they are
- 45:15Speaker 2: the biggest right now. And the bottom is so very
- 45:20Speaker 2: bad and weak in the middle is not great either.
- 45:23Speaker 2: That when we ask how good is Ohio state, you go, okay,
- 45:26Speaker 2: on paper, this is one of the best college football
- 45:30Speaker 2: teams I've ever seen. They have not sweat this year.
- 45:33Speaker 2: They have barely put forth effort and they have managed
- 45:36Speaker 2: to wipe everyone on their schedule in an economical fashion,
- 45:39Speaker 2: like clinical. That's why, like, I think we're sleeping on
- 45:43Speaker 2: this Indiana matchup because if they do If they are competitive,
- 45:47Speaker 2: first of all, congratulations to Indiana because no one else
- 45:50Speaker 2: has really been that competitive for the Ohio State. In
- 45:53Speaker 2: addition to that, if they manage to upset them, it's
- 45:56Speaker 2: going to be a reversal of everything that I think
- 45:58Speaker 2: is supposed to happen in the Big Ten by design.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Like Ohio State is supposed to come out of this thing.
- 46:03Speaker 2: If it's not Ohio State, it's Michigan. And these were
- 46:05Speaker 2: our bell cows and these are the ones that drive ratings, right?
- 46:07Speaker 2: Not to look at this too cynically from a business point,
- 46:09Speaker 2: but I'm going to do it. The Big Ten has
- 46:11Speaker 2: been all about business. I'm just returning the favor, right?
- 46:14Speaker 2: This is the conference that has embraced the spreadsheet more
- 46:16Speaker 2: than any single conference. And by the way, people go, well,
- 46:20Speaker 2: that's SEC homerism. No, we can't read spreadsheets. We're not
- 46:23Speaker 2: great at that. The SEC has been behind in terms
- 46:25Speaker 2: of thinking about this.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Okay.
- 46:26Speaker 2: They're just slower. They're slower and they haven't been as
- 46:28Speaker 2: reactive and they've made a bet on a different business model.
- 46:31Speaker 2: And I don't think it's going to wear out. I
- 46:33Speaker 2: think the big 10 wins as far as anything can
- 46:36Speaker 2: be considered victory in this. But the point is this matchup,
- 46:41Speaker 2: this matchup has so much on the line in terms of,
- 46:45Speaker 2: national branding it would also be very ryan day to
- 46:49Speaker 2: lose a game at the end of the season that
- 46:50Speaker 2: he shouldn't lose and win the national title anyway right
- 46:53Speaker 2: lose the big lose the big 10 championship in an
- 46:55Speaker 2: upset go on and destroy people in the playoff which
- 46:58Speaker 2: was the plan all along like i think that is
- 47:00Speaker 2: they've been building to this the playoff is the priority
- 47:02Speaker 2: so i don't know kirk catch him sleeping man i would.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Also like to take this moment to make the point
- 47:07Speaker 1: that Maybe, just maybe, Lane should have looked at Kurt
- 47:11Speaker 1: Cignetti who looked at this and was like, nah, how
- 47:13Speaker 1: about I just take all this money to stay right
- 47:15Speaker 1: here where I'm a god as opposed to I'm going
- 47:18Speaker 1: to go jump in some hot grease.
- 47:20Speaker 2: Why?
- 47:20Speaker 3: Because that'll impress people.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Hey, listen. Some of us have ADHD. Lane was in
- 47:29Speaker 2: Ole Miss for six years. Yeah. I'm going to convert
- 47:32Speaker 2: that to normal people years. That's like 200 years anywhere else.
- 47:36Speaker 2: That's fair. That's 200 years.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 47:39Speaker 2: We're talking about, we're talking about a grown man who
- 47:42Speaker 2: posts on Instagram stories. Like he is a 23 year
- 47:45Speaker 2: old lady.
- 47:46Speaker 4: Okay.
- 47:48Speaker 2: And by that, I mean a lot of inspo, right?
- 47:50Speaker 2: A lot of like, you know what you do, you
- 47:52Speaker 2: do what you need to do for your heart. If
- 47:54Speaker 2: someone's in there, you need to let them go. You
- 47:57Speaker 2: need to let them go. See if they come back.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Like I've never seen a grown man post like that.
- 48:01Speaker 2: And this isn't me going, well, that's female posting. No,
- 48:04Speaker 2: I'm not doing that. I just haven't seen it. Well, no,
- 48:07Speaker 2: I just haven't seen it. Okay. I've never seen anybody post.
- 48:10Speaker 2: He posts like, I think my nieces should post. My
- 48:13Speaker 2: nieces don't post like that, but he posts like stuff
- 48:16Speaker 2: that I'm like, I've never seen a coach do this
- 48:18Speaker 2: in my life. And he's 50.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 48:21Speaker 2: He's slightly older than I am. Like that's unreal. What
- 48:26Speaker 2: a time. What a sport. What a world, man.
- 48:29Speaker 3: What a world.
- 48:30Speaker 2: It's the, listen, greatest american sport we just spent we
- 48:34Speaker 2: just spent this entire time talking about human resources even
- 48:39Speaker 2: our human resources bow is more interesting than any other
- 48:42Speaker 2: sport it is like and that's the thing everybody hates
- 48:45Speaker 2: right when hr calls leave the building but when college
- 48:49Speaker 2: football hr calls and wants to tell some stories have
- 48:52Speaker 2: a seat.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Doc here's where college sports generally are like the world
- 48:56Speaker 1: okay um i went to grenada last week right Looked
- 49:02Speaker 1: kind of like Hawaii, short of flight, gave it a run.
- 49:05Speaker 2: And they have a bit of.
- 49:06Speaker 3: An interesting political history in Grenada.
- 49:10Speaker 2: You're not the first American to land there.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's cool. I got out on my own, right?
- 49:16Speaker 3: So I'm there and I don't want to get.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Into all the details of the history because it'll take
- 49:21Speaker 1: a little bit too long. But I was thinking about
- 49:23Speaker 1: something that involved a bloodless coup and then one that
- 49:27Speaker 1: involved a more violent coup. But anyway, Grenada right now
- 49:31Speaker 1: has 120,000 people.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Okay. Right.
- 49:34Speaker 1: That is a small town. Small town is going too far,
- 49:37Speaker 1: but it is a very, very, very small city, right?
- 49:40Speaker 1: Like you can go through the list of cities that
- 49:41Speaker 1: have 120,000 people and you can see who those places are. Now,
- 49:47Speaker 1: take a moment. I don't know anything about who runs
- 49:48Speaker 1: Grenade or anything else. So I'm just operating hypothetically. So
- 49:51Speaker 1: take a town that has 120,000 people and imagine who
- 49:54Speaker 1: the mayor is of a place that has 120,000 people.
- 49:57Speaker 1: And you can imagine who the mayor is of a
- 49:58Speaker 1: place that has a million people, okay? The mayor of
- 50:01Speaker 1: a place that has 120,000 people is not, I mean, New.
- 50:04Speaker 3: York elected area Adams. You get the point that I'm
- 50:07Speaker 3: making here, right?
- 50:08Speaker 1: It could be anybody that could be the mayor of
- 50:10Speaker 1: a place that has 120,000 people, except that guy isn't
- 50:13Speaker 1: a mayor. That guy or woman is a president, a
- 50:19Speaker 1: prime minister. And you know what comes with being a
- 50:21Speaker 1: president or a prime minister? You get your very own armies. OK,
- 50:25Speaker 1: so you take whatever little town it is that you
- 50:27Speaker 1: have that has one hundred twenty thousand people. And imagine
- 50:30Speaker 1: that you let the person in charge of that have
- 50:32Speaker 1: a whole ass army to himself.
- 50:35Speaker 2: OK. Yeah.
- 50:37Speaker 3: Think about that in the context of college sports. OK,
- 50:41Speaker 3: there's big, there's small, there's all these things.
- 50:43Speaker 1: But in the end, there's a lot of people who
- 50:46Speaker 1: have armies that should not be allowed to have an
- 50:51Speaker 1: army there.
- 50:52Speaker 3: But something that they have, that's school. That means you
- 50:56Speaker 3: get to have an army.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That means you get to have all kinds of things
- 50:58Speaker 1: that a person who's actually operating on the scale of that,
- 51:01Speaker 1: no one man should have all that power.
- 51:03Speaker 3: That's all I'm saying. That's college sports.
- 51:06Speaker 2: That is, hey, I'm going to put it this way.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Lane just took a job where he gets his own tiger. Yes.
- 51:13Speaker 2: He gets a tiger. That's Scarface. Yes. When you become
- 51:16Speaker 2: LSU's coach, there's a tiger there. And it's in your house.
- 51:20Speaker 1: There's a tiger and a tiger that they also got
- 51:24Speaker 1: because the governor decided that they needed a different tiger, right?
- 51:27Speaker 2: Right, right. Also, can we discuss this? Lane's probably going
- 51:31Speaker 2: to post like the tiger is his because we, in
- 51:35Speaker 2: the course of all this conversation, did not get to.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Lane might not have even had a dog. Lane had
- 51:42Speaker 2: a dog and he posted from a social account for
- 51:44Speaker 2: that dog, Juice Kiffin, and now the dog's still in Oxford?
- 51:49Speaker 2: You never leave a man behind lane. Never leave a
- 51:53Speaker 2: man behind.
- 51:53Speaker 1: He told everybody, he told everybody to get on that plane.
- 51:56Speaker 1: And the dog didn't think it was about him.
- 51:59Speaker 2: He might've had for real. I can't believe I'm saying this.
- 52:03Speaker 2: We might've had a football coach who had a, a
- 52:06Speaker 2: Labrador retriever for PR purposes. We might've had a stunt dog, right?
- 52:12Speaker 2: A PR dog. That is now, by the way, safe
- 52:15Speaker 2: in Oxford, safe in Oxford, But yeah, by the way,
- 52:19Speaker 2: Ole Miss stripped the verified badge from the Juice Kiffin
- 52:22Speaker 2: account when Lane Kiffin took that. So you want to
- 52:25Speaker 2: talk about petty? You no longer have the blue check, dog.
- 52:28Speaker 1: That's beef over there. They ain't paying no more money
- 52:31Speaker 1: for that. Spencer Hall, check him out. Channel 6 and
- 52:35Speaker 1: various other places.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Talking college football. My man, I greatly appreciate you. Anytime.
- 52:40Speaker 2: All right.
