- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, lou Terminello, mister Terminello, mister you were an
- 0:05Speaker 1: NBA executive for twenty eight years, and in those twenty
- 0:09Speaker 1: eight years, I mean, yeah, you saw the Knicks have
- 0:12Speaker 1: a run in ninety four and ninety nine. But the
- 0:16Speaker 1: city feels like we're a powder keg right now about
- 0:18Speaker 1: to explode. And I don't remember any time the Knicks
- 0:22Speaker 1: have made the city feel like a powder keg in
- 0:24Speaker 1: my lifetime like this, not even ninety four ninety nine, right, Louis, ummm, well.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Again, it's different. I mean, let's Alex, thank you for
- 0:33Speaker 2: having me. It's different right now. Yes, there's a lot
- 0:36Speaker 2: of different. It's different between even it was in the nineties.
- 0:40Speaker 2: You know, the Knicks played an incredible series against the
- 0:45Speaker 2: Bulls multiple times and the only time they beat them
- 0:50Speaker 2: is when Jordan wasn't there. But even that series was
- 0:53Speaker 2: a seven game incredible series. So I mean they were captivating.
- 0:59Speaker 2: The NBA was captivating more than nineties and it is now. Again. Yes,
- 1:03Speaker 2: it's great that the Knicks made this incredible comeback. As
- 1:07Speaker 2: I told you when you texted me with five minutes
- 1:10Speaker 2: in the second quarter thinking there was some shenanigans going on.
- 1:14Speaker 2: That the NBA was looking to to u length in
- 1:18Speaker 2: the series. I said, a long way to.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Go and right, because you know basketball, and I know, no, it.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Was an incredible comeback. There's a lot of pros, uh,
- 1:33Speaker 2: you know, pros for the Knicks how they came back.
- 1:37Speaker 2: But I mean the Spurs just collapsed. And again, they're
- 1:41Speaker 2: the second youngest team in the NBA Finals history, and
- 1:44Speaker 2: they showed how great talented they have in the first half,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and then when the going got tough, they collapsed.
- 1:52Speaker 1: They had some just bad three point shots. I mean,
- 1:55Speaker 1: they just weren't even hitting the rim at one point. Well,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and yes, and there's some until Mike Brown's keeping this
- 2:02Speaker 1: team endurance even through that twenty two point deficite against
- 2:05Speaker 1: the Cabs. I know, this is very different. But there's
- 2:07Speaker 1: something about the endurance of this team that I've not
- 2:10Speaker 1: seen before because normally they are tired by the third
- 2:12Speaker 1: quarter because simmses run them out there for so long.
- 2:16Speaker 1: This is different, though, Like their their endurance is better now.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah. No, and they they were you know, they were
- 2:23Speaker 2: a deeper team and uh uh you know, but again,
- 2:28Speaker 2: I was texting one of one of my UH colleagues
- 2:32Speaker 2: who worked in the NBA former colleagues, and uh while
- 2:38Speaker 2: Spurs taking threes up twenty in the third quarter as
- 2:41Speaker 2: playing right into the Knick's hands, and Barkley brought that
- 2:44Speaker 2: point up on inside the NBA after the game. Uh
- 2:49Speaker 2: I just uh, I just don't get it. Yes, their
- 2:52Speaker 2: immaturity showed. They again, you saw both sides of the
- 2:56Speaker 2: Spurs in the series, and.
- 3:00Speaker 1: You know it's almost like they want to take control
- 3:02Speaker 1: like they did over k c ok see, but the
- 3:04Speaker 1: Knicks just haven't really let them do that. I know
- 3:06Speaker 1: they won Monday night, but they still haven't let them
- 3:09Speaker 1: absolutely domine. I mean, for some reason dominated Okac in
- 3:12Speaker 1: a way I didn't think that would happen.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Well again, they remember, okay See, he was playing without
- 3:16Speaker 2: two of their top six guys, you know, for the
- 3:19Speaker 2: second best player basically the whole series, and they're they're
- 3:22Speaker 2: sixth man for half the series. But you know, last night,
- 3:29Speaker 2: Mick Johnson, head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, I
- 3:32Speaker 2: know he's in his first full year, so he's non
- 3:35Speaker 2: experienced coach, did nothing to help his team repel the
- 3:40Speaker 2: Nick run. And the Nick run wasn't crazy, It wasn't crazy.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It wasn't It wasn't all at once, it was. It
- 3:48Speaker 2: was chopped down a little bit at a time.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Exactly the end of the third quarter, down fifteen, and
- 3:53Speaker 1: they almost got to that point, which was good. And
- 3:55Speaker 1: then they i mean, when they kept going back up
- 3:58Speaker 1: by twenty, I'm like, oh boy, there's going to be
- 3:59Speaker 1: a climb. But the Knicks managed it and managed it
- 4:02Speaker 1: really well.
- 4:03Speaker 2: They scored thirty points in the second half, which is
- 4:05Speaker 2: almost unfathomable considering they scored seventy six points in the
- 4:10Speaker 2: first half and then and Spurst scored only thirty. A
- 4:15Speaker 2: key thing in the second half in my opinion, even
- 4:18Speaker 2: though we didn't hit, you know, hit that one to
- 4:20Speaker 2: three and again, now look, here's a one point game,
- 4:22Speaker 2: a final score. And Alvarado took that three from the
- 4:25Speaker 2: corner that looked like it was short and crawled in.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And and the know, we had one also in the
- 4:30Speaker 2: comeback that looked short on the front rim and crawled in.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So you know, a lot of things go when you're
- 4:36Speaker 2: collapsing or when you're you're making a run like the
- 4:39Speaker 2: Knicks dick like that big.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Three that it was hit, but it rolled around the
- 4:42Speaker 1: rim a little bit. I know it's what you're talking about. Yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and then well and then the heart pick and roll
- 4:48Speaker 1: that was that didn't really work, but they survived that
- 4:51Speaker 1: look even down the stretch, there were moments where I
- 4:54Speaker 1: thought this burst still might.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Pull it out, because well, you're right one for seven
- 4:59Speaker 2: to go. Wembinyana, who is not? He's not? Please no,
- 5:04Speaker 2: But I don't want to hear anybody to compare him
- 5:06Speaker 2: to Abdyl Jabbar anymore. It's an insult to Abdul Jabbar.
- 5:09Speaker 2: He might end up being up there with abdl Jabbar,
- 5:12Speaker 2: but he's not. And other guys in the Eli Jauan
- 5:14Speaker 2: and people out there comparing him to but he's not. Now,
- 5:17Speaker 2: with one forty seven to go, he blows those two
- 5:20Speaker 2: free throws. He had missed one free throw the entire game.
- 5:23Speaker 2: He blew those two free throws. They lost by one.
- 5:26Speaker 2: That's key. Then the bonehead play of bonehead plays that
- 5:30Speaker 2: long rebound when Brunton missed at three with the thirteen
- 5:35Speaker 2: twelve seconds to go, and the the Aaron Fox had
- 5:38Speaker 2: the ball and he just ninety nine percent of the time,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you just hold on to that ball, get fouled, run
- 5:45Speaker 2: off a couple of seconds and try to make those
- 5:47Speaker 2: two free throws. He did that on he did that
- 5:50Speaker 2: the previous game. It wasn't the same play with a
- 5:52Speaker 2: long rebound, but he got fouled and one thirteen eleven
- 5:56Speaker 2: game became one fifteen eleven with six seconds to go.
- 6:00Speaker 2: That was that was an inexcusable era bi by Dion
- 6:05Speaker 2: the Aaron Fox. But Alex, when you're up twenty nine
- 6:08Speaker 2: points in the second quarter, you're you're up twenty seven
- 6:11Speaker 2: at the half, you're up twenty in the fourth quarter,
- 6:13Speaker 2: even though the Knicks cut it to fourteen fifteen, and
- 6:15Speaker 2: the third, like you said, the Spurs got it back
- 6:18Speaker 2: up to twenty. I believe that it was like nine
- 6:21Speaker 2: thirty to go, they were up twenty. That's it's more
- 6:24Speaker 2: than just one play. It's more than just the boneheit
- 6:27Speaker 2: play by Fox. But that was a bonehead play, and
- 6:30Speaker 2: that's gonna be that's going to stick with him for
- 6:33Speaker 2: the rest of his career. But it's more than one play.
- 6:37Speaker 2: The Spurs got away from what they did they would
- 6:40Speaker 2: they started taking freeze, Alex, they got scared. They got scared,
- 6:46Speaker 2: they did they panicked.
- 6:48Speaker 1: They really and then turnover. I mean I know that
- 6:52Speaker 1: heart didn't complete it but that turnover was still crucial
- 6:54Speaker 1: because it was that was in the moment where they
- 6:57Speaker 1: were driving down the paint driving in, Heart steals it.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And by the way, even though he missed it, Heart
- 7:02Speaker 1: did make the final block on the Spurs. So he's
- 7:06Speaker 1: had an impact on the series for sure.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Well that's the thing about the Knicks. Everybody contributes, even
- 7:12Speaker 2: though they may not have huge numbers in the box score.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Everybody contributes. And Mike Brown he out coached Mitch Johnson
- 7:24Speaker 2: I think for most of this series. And he's a
- 7:25Speaker 2: guy who threw a month ago or six weeks ago,
- 7:28Speaker 2: was gonna get fired, and now he's going to be
- 7:31Speaker 2: on the float sometime next week Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Let me talk about Mike Brown. It was a very
- 7:38Speaker 1: crucial part of the game. It was like a couple
- 7:39Speaker 1: of minutes left, they call that time out, maybe under
- 7:41Speaker 1: the minute mark. But he walks in the huddle like
- 7:44Speaker 1: so poised and calm. He wasn't panicking. He just like,
- 7:48Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna figure this out. And I feel
- 7:50Speaker 1: like that poise and that calmness is really you know,
- 7:54Speaker 1: early on in the year, people don't really remember this,
- 7:56Speaker 1: but there were rumors the locker room was a little fracture,
- 8:01Speaker 1: like he wouldn't have their respect entirely. I don't exactly
- 8:03Speaker 1: know if that's true, but I don't know either, but
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'll tell you he looks like he's got the locker
- 8:08Speaker 1: room now, and his poise is calmness is probably what's
- 8:11Speaker 1: got him where they are right now, one game away
- 8:13Speaker 1: from winning the final.
- 8:15Speaker 2: No doubt. And you know, putting Alvarado because really the Spurs,
- 8:21Speaker 2: while while they collapsed offensively, with the exception of that
- 8:25Speaker 2: last possession where.
- 8:28Speaker 1: They locked down Brunson, pretty damn good, and they.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Did, I mean, the whole game. Their defense was he.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Was able to get passes off to Alvarado and the
- 8:35Speaker 1: likes I mean, and by the way, don't think don't
- 8:38Speaker 1: And I got to get the stats here on the
- 8:39Speaker 1: real app. But don't knock him for his stat line.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I may not have scored. I think
- 8:46Speaker 1: he scored a lot, but let me get to the
- 8:48Speaker 1: right stats here. But the point is he passed the
- 8:50Speaker 1: ball a lot also, And I noticed that last night.
- 8:53Speaker 2: He's a superstar offensive point guard. There's no doubt about it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: All right, let me give me his line. I don't
- 8:58Speaker 1: know b thirty three point thirty three points runs in
- 9:02Speaker 1: thirty five by the way, Canada double double, which not
- 9:05Speaker 1: really many people realized last night. But he had that also.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I mean, look, these guys are contributing in their own ways.
- 9:11Speaker 1: But no, not only did he have thirty five points,
- 9:13Speaker 1: he had a Thursday expoints. He had seven assists. I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 1: and that led the whole team. So what can I tell?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Alex? He's everywhere on the court, He's everywhere.
- 9:26Speaker 1: When he on the back foot, he falls on the ground.
- 9:28Speaker 1: But he makes that shot anyway. I don't know how
- 9:29Speaker 1: he did that one, but that was that was quite
- 9:32Speaker 1: a shot. So now let me ask you this, Louis,
- 9:37Speaker 1: do you think the fans in the building care about
- 9:40Speaker 1: the SATs meeting. We see them all go crazy because
- 9:43Speaker 1: the and that's how the NBA is. Like I realized
- 9:45Speaker 1: people react to the shots, but I don't know how
- 9:48Speaker 1: many people actually observe how to play unfolds. What do
- 9:50Speaker 1: you think do you think they're more observant than we realized.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I feel like they just cheer at the shot. Maybe
- 9:54Speaker 1: I'm wrong on that.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But I it's it's, let's face it, New York Sports
- 9:59Speaker 2: fans was ever sport it is, and whatever team they
- 10:02Speaker 2: root for are knowledgeable fans. Uh but I but I
- 10:06Speaker 2: think and they know what's going on. They they know
- 10:09Speaker 2: when the team is running a bad play, they know
- 10:13Speaker 2: when they're taking a bad shot. They they know all that.
- 10:20Speaker 2: But the only thing they care about, They only care
- 10:22Speaker 2: about the end result. Whatever gets whatever it gets you
- 10:25Speaker 2: to the whatever gets heat to the finish line. You
- 10:30Speaker 2: know that that's that's all that matters. And uh, now
- 10:34Speaker 2: looking at it from a Knicks standpoint, okay, uh, you
- 10:39Speaker 2: know they're going to barring the collapse of collapse, and
- 10:43Speaker 2: it really would be especially after I don't know how
- 10:46Speaker 2: the Spurs can recover. I don't know how they're not comato.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Well, they seem to always lead, and that was different
- 10:51Speaker 1: this year. Then Spurs always had a big lead in
- 10:53Speaker 1: the beginning of the game and then of course here but.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Well, well the last night was the humongous lead, largest
- 11:00Speaker 2: the blown lead in finals history.
- 11:03Speaker 1: But even before that twelve to two run or whatever,
- 11:06Speaker 1: it was no, no, no question and a lot And
- 11:09Speaker 1: of course you know the other thing is I mean,
- 11:12Speaker 1: I keep talking about the twenty two point come against
- 11:14Speaker 1: the Caves, but yeah, This was a different level. This
- 11:17Speaker 1: was like a level of they had not I don't
- 11:20Speaker 1: think they even ended the half that badly in any
- 11:23Speaker 1: of the other games. That was the other jarring thing
- 11:25Speaker 1: is they were down twenty seven at the half. But
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm like, how was it possible? You know? But now
- 11:31Speaker 1: I set on my prior podcast before I talk to you,
- 11:35Speaker 1: when you listen to it, that this game goes up. Second,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you cannot take away Willis Reid's hip game, that seventh
- 11:44Speaker 1: game from the top of the Holy Girl. That is
- 11:47Speaker 1: Holy Girl for Nick's franchise history. But would'd you agree
- 11:50Speaker 1: this is the second most important You kind of want
- 11:52Speaker 1: to go back and forth on that one. So why
- 11:54Speaker 1: do you disagree?
- 11:55Speaker 2: Louis Well again, Now let's go back, like I agree
- 11:59Speaker 2: with you. Nothing to well top May of nineteen seventy
- 12:04Speaker 2: game seven. First of all, you're talking about a Knicks
- 12:08Speaker 2: team that was a great basketball team. This next team
- 12:11Speaker 2: is you know, I got it. You know it's not
- 12:13Speaker 2: a great team. It's a very good team playing a
- 12:16Speaker 2: very good Spurs team that's very inexperience. Like we said,
- 12:20Speaker 2: second youngest team ever to play the Final, to play
- 12:22Speaker 2: in the finals, the Knicks and seventy were also playing
- 12:27Speaker 2: a great Laker team with West Baylor, Gail Goodrich Chamberlain,
- 12:34Speaker 2: So you can't compare it. And that Nick team would
- 12:38Speaker 2: destroy this Sick team. It would destroy him. You know.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I hate to say, I'm just being realistic. Who saw
- 12:44Speaker 2: the Knicks go to the finals in seventy, seventy two
- 12:47Speaker 2: and seventy three, But that takes nothing away from the
- 12:51Speaker 2: Knicks winning this championship. You can only play who you play,
- 12:56Speaker 2: and that's where we are. Actually, there's there's no team
- 13:01Speaker 2: in the NBA, not even if Oklahoma City was healthy
- 13:04Speaker 2: that could match the Knicks of seventy or the Lakers
- 13:06Speaker 2: of seventy. They just couldn't. And but uh, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 2: Cats off to uh to the Knick's matchment. They put
- 13:15Speaker 2: together a very balanced, solid team that's going to uh
- 13:20Speaker 2: uh get get this third championship. I mean, barring the
- 13:26Speaker 2: greatest collapse, which I don't see happening, even.
- 13:30Speaker 1: If a little bit tomorrow. But then the next will
- 13:33Speaker 1: come back in and take over the game. That's kind
- 13:34Speaker 1: of how I could see it.
- 13:36Speaker 2: And even if by some chances Spurs win, they're not winning.
- 13:39Speaker 2: They're not winning Game six. Well, let's face it, they're
- 13:41Speaker 2: not winning three in a row.
- 13:42Speaker 1: You know, you make a good point. That was also
- 13:44Speaker 1: the first home game from any team on the and
- 13:48Speaker 1: the I.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Told you, I told you off yesterday the home court
- 13:54Speaker 2: was going to kick in sooner or later. I didn't,
- 13:56Speaker 2: you know, we didn't think it was going to be
- 13:57Speaker 2: last night when uh it was twenty seven points at halftime.
- 14:02Speaker 2: But you know, the home you know, the home court
- 14:05Speaker 2: is going to kick in. So it kicked in last night.
- 14:09Speaker 2: From a Spurs standpoint, when they think about this summer,
- 14:12Speaker 2: when they review, when they look at when they look
- 14:14Speaker 2: at this film, and they of the whole series, because
- 14:17Speaker 2: let's face it, Alex, out of sixteen quarters, it's not
- 14:21Speaker 2: like the Knicks have played them seventy five eighty percent
- 14:26Speaker 2: of the time. It's basically fifty to fifty. Tour of
- 14:29Speaker 2: the games have been decided by one point. I think,
- 14:31Speaker 2: only the second time in NBA history, or the second time,
- 14:36Speaker 2: the first time since nineteen sixty nine in the finals.
- 14:39Speaker 2: So obviously a call here, a bounce here, a free
- 14:44Speaker 2: throw made here, Wemby, you missed those two free throws.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I mean that's how close. That's how close this is.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Now, I don't know how in two I think you're
- 14:53Speaker 1: pretty intuit the rules, and I understand the basic six
- 14:57Speaker 1: thousand you're out. But the flagrant stuff that he's talking about,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I mean, are they missing it? Are they not calling it? Like,
- 15:03Speaker 1: what's going on with the flagrant Well.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Some it's funny. Some of my former NBA colleagues would
- 15:11Speaker 2: text me the NBA has gone oderline calling flagran foul.
- 15:14Speaker 2: He should let some stuff go. But one of the
- 15:17Speaker 2: things that's happening now again, if the Spurs had one
- 15:19Speaker 2: and tied it last night, it would be more of
- 15:22Speaker 2: a factor. I mean, if Wemby got one more flavorant foul,
- 15:27Speaker 2: that's for that, he has three points against him already
- 15:30Speaker 2: through through the entire playoffs, he would be suspended. So say,
- 15:34Speaker 2: if it was too to say, the Spurs won Game five,
- 15:38Speaker 2: the Knicks won Game six, and and Wenby had got
- 15:41Speaker 2: a flagrant foul and he's a big guy and you know,
- 15:45Speaker 2: his elbows are flailing. I don't think intentionally most of
- 15:48Speaker 2: the time. But you know, like last night, I don't
- 15:51Speaker 2: think his flagrant foul was an intentional foul, but it
- 15:55Speaker 2: made contact, you know, with Karl Anthony Towns one more
- 16:00Speaker 2: and he would he would be suspended for game seven.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Can you imagine if that had happened. It's three three
- 16:05Speaker 2: and there's no wemby game to seven. Uh, he you know,
- 16:09Speaker 2: because if you collect, if you get four flagrants, you
- 16:13Speaker 2: collect four points, you're out for one game.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Uh, try something. I don't know if he's gonna try
- 16:18Speaker 1: something else Saturday. Again.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I don't think he did anything dirty like last night.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I don't think. I mean, I think that came. I
- 16:25Speaker 2: was actually surprised that they called that a flagrant because, uh,
- 16:31Speaker 2: that wasn't something that look premeditated. He's a big guy.
- 16:34Speaker 2: He's got long, gangly arm, gangly arms. Everybody he's seven
- 16:38Speaker 2: to five, and even even a guy like Kat, who's
- 16:40Speaker 2: a big man, you know, below him when they're standing
- 16:45Speaker 2: next to each other. So, uh, you know, we'll see.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it'll be interesting that And then Kat
- 16:56Speaker 1: having two fouls early on the quarter was the first
- 16:59Speaker 1: quarter was just kind of wild. But I also think
- 17:01Speaker 1: about all this from the history of from the biggest perspective,
- 17:05Speaker 1: because they all played the Garden at the Big East
- 17:07Speaker 1: level and now they're playing at the NBA Final level, Like,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I don't know, I think that's pretty cool Champagne with
- 17:13Speaker 1: Saint John's Castle, with Yukon. Of course the Nova Knicks,
- 17:18Speaker 1: I mean, Brunston Hart, Come on, how exciting is this
- 17:21Speaker 1: that you know they're having a sort of those big
- 17:23Speaker 1: East alumni reunion in a way, I find that pretty cool.
- 17:26Speaker 1: On the same floor they all competed on it.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and the Nova Knicks are going to be a
- 17:34Speaker 2: part of what not many players accomplished an NCAA championship,
- 17:42Speaker 2: some of us what the Brunson won at two Bridges one,
- 17:46Speaker 2: I think one Heart one. I think Brunston was the
- 17:52Speaker 2: only Brunton and Devincenzo was the only one that won too,
- 17:55Speaker 2: and I think Devincenzo was hurt for the first one.
- 18:00Speaker 2: But they're going to have these three guys Hart, Bridges
- 18:05Speaker 2: and uh Brunching of go to have both an NBA
- 18:10Speaker 2: ring and a college ring, and that is spectacular.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It is h Every's just a you know, Hall of
- 18:18Speaker 1: Fame status. I don't know we're even there yet because
- 18:21Speaker 1: I don't know if this core is done. I thought
- 18:22Speaker 1: this core might be done after this year, but I
- 18:23Speaker 1: think they're gonna keep going for a while. I just
- 18:25Speaker 1: have a feeling and they're gonna keep they're going to
- 18:28Speaker 1: keep with the Bucks? Is that a possibility?
- 18:30Speaker 2: Like, I don't even know, And I think the Knicks
- 18:32Speaker 2: are not getting honest. If they are, they're making a big.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Mistake because I actually now that are wait.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Especially now that they've won, well they have one, yet
- 18:41Speaker 3: they need to win this YEA, Well yeah, right, you're right,
- 18:43Speaker 3: you're right, And I've been in sports for long enough
- 18:46Speaker 3: to know that, Yes, they haven't won yet, you're correct.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Two thousand. I know it's baseball, but that's trauma. How
- 18:51Speaker 1: about hell? How about the nets up? Two oh? I
- 18:54Speaker 1: thought we all thought they were going to be the
- 18:56Speaker 1: Bucks that year, but.
- 18:57Speaker 2: And it looks like they would have won the championship.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So you're right, you're you're right. But they're healthy, they
- 19:03Speaker 2: got the Knicks are gritty, they got chemistry, their experience,
- 19:07Speaker 2: they're well coached. Collapsed for them too.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I'm watching the non civilized celebrations of this Knicks win
- 19:15Speaker 1: last night. I mean, a guy banging on a cab door,
- 19:18Speaker 1: cab window, ruining it. Man, I remember ninety nine. At
- 19:23Speaker 1: least we were all civilized back then. During this run,
- 19:25Speaker 1: where did the I don't want to say because it's
- 19:27Speaker 1: such a racial term. But where the hitdlums come in
- 19:30Speaker 1: and ruined it all the fun. I don't understand it, Louis.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Well, Alex, That's the one thing New York always pride
- 19:37Speaker 2: itself on. When the team won a championship, there was
- 19:41Speaker 2: never any destruction of cities like when Vancouver won Game six.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I mean ESPN did the thirty for thirty or as
- 19:51Speaker 2: sixty on it on the Vancouver Riot. I mean they
- 19:55Speaker 2: didn't even win the Stanley Cup. Detroit Montreal has had
- 20:00Speaker 2: had memorable quote unquote street riots when the Canadians, you
- 20:08Speaker 2: know won, they haven't won in thirty three years. But
- 20:12Speaker 2: you can go. But the one New York always Philadelphia.
- 20:16Speaker 2: But New York always avoided until this time. I was
- 20:19Speaker 2: in Shea Stadium for Game six and Game seven of
- 20:22Speaker 2: those two iconic games against the Red Sox. I drove,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I drove out of parking lot. Yeah, I mean it
- 20:28Speaker 2: was obviously just it took me maybe about a half
- 20:31Speaker 2: hour ga out of parking lot. But there was no no,
- 20:34Speaker 2: no issues at all. The Rangers won the Stanley Cup
- 20:38Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety four, first one in fifty four years,
- 20:42Speaker 2: there was nothing outside the garden. There were no problems
- 20:46Speaker 2: when the Giants won in eighty six, were there any problems,
- 20:49Speaker 2: There were no problems, or ninety or two thousand and
- 20:52Speaker 2: all those Yankee.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Runs, they all just at the parade and that was it.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I mean there, that was it.
- 20:56Speaker 2: So this is I don't know if society has changed.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I don't know, because we have so much social media
- 21:06Speaker 2: now that brings these people who maybe really aren't fans
- 21:10Speaker 2: to these to these uh watch parties, and you know,
- 21:13Speaker 2: I'm not a big fan of watch parties to begin with.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And uh again, it's very disappointing now the band. That's
- 21:21Speaker 2: the sad thing is some some reporters and I was
- 21:25Speaker 2: watching them, uh were saying, well, this happened back, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 2: in in eighty six and in ninety four, and in
- 21:33Speaker 2: ninety it didn't. It did not happen new York. Never
- 21:37Speaker 2: happened in New York. Never never happened when when the
- 21:41Speaker 2: Yankees or anybody or any of these.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Teams won, I was there. Uh, they did the little
- 21:49Speaker 1: parade around the arena. Nothing crazy there.
- 21:51Speaker 2: And there was nothing crazy after after after games. I've
- 21:55Speaker 2: been I've left Nassau Coliseum after the Islanders won, and
- 21:58Speaker 2: they have such a rabbit fan base in the parking lot.
- 22:02Speaker 2: After the Islanders won big playoff games. Nothing happened so.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Bad they blocked off And I understand there's a whole
- 22:11Speaker 1: rift between Dolan and MOMDONI now or whatever they blocked
- 22:15Speaker 1: off the entire perimeter. I mean, that was never New
- 22:18Speaker 1: York's way. We always were allowed to get close to
- 22:20Speaker 1: the garden, even on freaking finals day.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Well again, that's a whole that that's between a Dolan
- 22:26Speaker 2: and Mandami. But again, but the regular fan the quote unfolte,
- 22:31Speaker 2: we never saw this until the until this series. I
- 22:34Speaker 2: don't get it. You know, twenty one or twenty one arrested,
- 22:38Speaker 2: six policemen injured for after Game three last night, I
- 22:44Speaker 2: heard seventeen arrested and two injured at Brian Park. You know,
- 22:50Speaker 2: I don't get it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: It's it's that that's the on the scene. But I
- 22:54Speaker 1: literally made the wise ridges go home. You can't know, yes,
- 22:58Speaker 1: go home, even even I want to keep my leg
- 23:00Speaker 1: is what I've been saying.
- 23:01Speaker 2: But that's it.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Even on Monday night, like I went out for a
- 23:04Speaker 1: little bit, but then I just shuttled myself out of
- 23:07Speaker 1: the city because you know, they were looking bad. But
- 23:10Speaker 1: if they happened to win. I don't want to be
- 23:11Speaker 1: in the city because if they went up three to zero,
- 23:13Speaker 1: the whole city might not have survived that night.
- 23:15Speaker 2: But you know, again, Alex, they don't care. They don't care.
- 23:18Speaker 2: They don't care that that that you're handicapping, your on crutches.
- 23:21Speaker 2: They'll run, they'll run you down. They're not going to
- 23:23Speaker 2: pick you.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Get me crowd surfing, and I don't.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know, I mean that, it's it's it's sad, it's disappointing.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I never thought that would happen in New York. I
- 23:34Speaker 2: really didn't because because it never did. And you're right,
- 23:37Speaker 2: you know, we've had some iconic moments.
- 23:40Speaker 1: We have, Yeah, we we have. Even the two thousand
- 23:44Speaker 1: Subway series. No one was rioting after that.
- 23:47Speaker 2: You're exactly right. And I went I went to all
- 23:49Speaker 2: three of the games at Shay. There was no issues.
- 23:52Speaker 1: You're right, maybe in the stands, but kidding, yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 2: And even in the stands what they might have been,
- 23:58Speaker 2: you know, the one or two isolated, but there was
- 24:00Speaker 2: you know, I want I went to all three games.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Well, generation that was respectful. I grew up, and that's
- 24:07Speaker 1: the problem. I think that's it.
- 24:09Speaker 2: You're right, it's a generational thing. It's it's lack of
- 24:14Speaker 2: it's lack of respect for each other. And well that's
- 24:19Speaker 2: now we're getting away from sports and what the world
- 24:23Speaker 2: is looking.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I might think they might block it out. I mean,
- 24:27Speaker 1: and they may have to make it a ticketed parade
- 24:29Speaker 1: at this point. I don't know. And that's sad because
- 24:31Speaker 1: normally these parades are for the public. Yeah, no, absolutely,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and I understand the Liberty one in twenty four, but
- 24:41Speaker 1: it would be the first of all the four Majors.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, it'll be different, Alex, this will be
- 24:46Speaker 2: this will be humongous. This parade willngus.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I heard you're coming in uh first train in right?
- 24:53Speaker 2: Look, Well, is my desk at one eleven still open?
- 24:56Speaker 1: Or oh my god?
- 25:01Speaker 2: You know, I'm sure. I'm sure Tony's gonna take care
- 25:04Speaker 2: of you. I'm sure Tony's gonna at the front desk.
- 25:08Speaker 1: The kid. I'll be out on the parade room next
- 25:09Speaker 1: to Brunson. What are you talking about? Uh, I'm here
- 25:14Speaker 1: with Jalen Yay speaking into existence. You never know. Well,
- 25:18Speaker 1: that's the other thing about this, there's so many security concerns.
- 25:21Speaker 1: This isn't a watch party like in the first couple
- 25:23Speaker 1: of rounds. They really have to make a decision if
- 25:25Speaker 1: they want to do a watch party, because after what
- 25:29Speaker 1: we've seen, I think the garden may oup not to
- 25:32Speaker 1: open the garden for Game five. That's what I'm thinking here, Lewis.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Well, I was wondering if they were going to do that. Now, Alex,
- 25:38Speaker 2: you say it's ten dollars to get into the garden,
- 25:41Speaker 2: I will be fifty to.
- 25:42Speaker 1: One hundred dollars. Now I will think, no, No, I
- 25:45Speaker 1: don't know if it's gonna be ten. Now, I think
- 25:46Speaker 1: they would up the price at that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 25:50Speaker 1: well look they they should not be afraid. That's the
- 25:53Speaker 1: other problem. These hoodlums are making everybody afraid. They should
- 25:56Speaker 1: not be afraid to open the garden for a watch party.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Everybody does it, even uh when there is a clincher,
- 26:02Speaker 1: teams open up their arena, they're off.
- 26:04Speaker 2: No, that's done throughout the country.
- 26:09Speaker 1: You're right, So I I don't agree with them not opening.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I think they should. I think they should just say
- 26:15Speaker 1: screw all the rabble rousers and just let the fans
- 26:18Speaker 1: enjoy it. First of all, you price us out anyway
- 26:21Speaker 1: for the two games, that's what you deserve. It should
- 26:24Speaker 1: be there for the clinch, you know what I mean.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And by the way, I want to get a little political.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I know, I know people that listen don't like us
- 26:31Speaker 1: getting political, but I want to say this, mister affordable
- 26:35Speaker 1: affordability one thousand dollars ticket, but he doesn't make it
- 26:39Speaker 1: affordable or make it available, make a deal like you
- 26:42Speaker 1: did with FIFA for regular Nick fans. The guy's a
- 26:45Speaker 1: phony as far as I'm gonna when it comes back.
- 26:47Speaker 1: But that's I'll say that. You don't have to say that.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I'll make that little on the network because it's it's
- 26:55Speaker 1: infuriating the first time.
- 26:57Speaker 2: It is infuriating.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I agree, Bud, I do because the first time since
- 27:01Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine, and the average fan has his watch outside.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I don't.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Like.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I'm sorry Taylor's for being there last night. She's not
- 27:12Speaker 1: a New York fan. I know she was at the
- 27:14Speaker 1: Garden a few times, but she's just there for show
- 27:17Speaker 1: where the wheel is Yes.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yes they are you are? You are correct?
- 27:21Speaker 1: And the other thing talk about generational shift in ninety nine.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Uh in ninety nine they all wore suits on the sideline.
- 27:30Speaker 1: What is this with this track suit ship? Like I'd
- 27:33Speaker 1: rather than just wear suits.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Again, well, the NBA has lessened the dress code, which looked.
- 27:40Speaker 1: To dress the nines every time he was on the sideline.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I'll tell you that much.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I mean, when you know Chuck Daily coached us for
- 27:47Speaker 2: two years, he dressed impeccably.
- 27:51Speaker 1: You know that Warren's, Frank, Byron Scott all, they all
- 27:54Speaker 1: dressed really well. I mean they just you know they did.
- 27:57Speaker 2: It's now the NBA then, has lessened the dress coach
- 28:03Speaker 2: for coaches.
- 28:03Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sorry, you're about to win a champions
- 28:05Speaker 1: are gonna wear a tracksuit to wisit?
- 28:07Speaker 2: No?
- 28:07Speaker 1: I don't understand it. And it's been like that since
- 28:10Speaker 1: post pandemic and you talk about airport wear and a basketbook.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. They need Duffy to say something, but like,
- 28:21Speaker 1: can you wear suits on the sideline and like that
- 28:24Speaker 1: the terminal? You know, the whole thing. Anyway, Louis, I
- 28:27Speaker 1: don't know it'll be fun, but I do have to
- 28:29Speaker 1: open the garden. I want to get in there and
- 28:31Speaker 1: at least get a picture of the O'Brien trophy logo
- 28:34Speaker 1: on the court. I think that's such a cool thing
- 28:35Speaker 1: they did this year. Apparently I've always had that, but
- 28:38Speaker 1: they got rid of it for a while.
- 28:40Speaker 2: They got rid of it for a while and people
- 28:41Speaker 2: people made enough stink that they brought it back. I
- 28:45Speaker 2: like it. I like it on court.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I do so you Met Samboula and a few others
- 28:51Speaker 1: think it's coming back to New York for Game six.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I think the home home team will get a fair whistle.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I have to say that, but you never I don't.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I think the I think the officiating for the first
- 29:02Speaker 2: four games has been fine. I really do I I really,
- 29:08Speaker 2: I really think they've done a good job in the
- 29:10Speaker 2: tough situation. They've done a really good job.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Well that's why I have you on, because you're one
- 29:17Speaker 1: of the more sane voices. Everybody else is like ragular.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And then I heard Steven and Steve Aye Smith wants
- 29:22Speaker 1: a ring. What has he ever done for the NIXT team.
- 29:24Speaker 1: I know he doesn't understand that one either, but yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Well, Stephen A. Smith knows how to sell Stephen A. Smith.
- 29:30Speaker 2: He does a great job. He I think he's a
- 29:34Speaker 2: blow hard, but the one thing that he does at
- 29:38Speaker 2: an expert level, he knows how to sell the Stephen A.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Smith brand. SODA's McAfee.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, Kirk Herbs. She had a nice view of
- 29:46Speaker 1: the shot last night. The tip in last night that
- 29:48Speaker 1: was that was pretty cool. But we'll have to see.
- 29:51Speaker 1: I do want to say one thing. I am keeping
- 29:53Speaker 1: an eye on other sports because as you know, we're
- 29:55Speaker 1: a multi sports city and I know it's early on
- 29:59Speaker 1: since Judge was announced by the way he was there
- 30:01Speaker 1: last night. Aaron Judge was there last night. Since Judge
- 30:05Speaker 1: was announced four to six weeks, they're four and one
- 30:08Speaker 1: after the sweep against the Guardians, So maybe the sky
- 30:11Speaker 1: isn't falling after all. We have to see by July.
- 30:13Speaker 1: But I'm keeping an eye on that because if they
- 30:16Speaker 1: can have a winning record without Judge on like twenty three,
- 30:20Speaker 1: that's a good shape heading into the postseason. But feel
- 30:23Speaker 1: like we're a long ways away from that and no
- 30:24Speaker 1: one's really caring about that, but I will because that's
- 30:26Speaker 1: what we do here. One look up alex Sports. We
- 30:28Speaker 1: follow everything, Louis.
- 30:29Speaker 2: We follow everything absolutely. And the thing that the end
- 30:34Speaker 2: that's gonna help keep the Yankees going is they have
- 30:37Speaker 2: outstanding starting pitching. That's that's going to keep the Yankees going.
- 30:41Speaker 2: They need Judge. It's a monumental injury. But again, they're
- 30:47Speaker 2: not playing in the American League East of Old and
- 30:51Speaker 2: that's gonna help them. That's gonna help them get there.
- 30:54Speaker 2: And the trade deadlines coming up, are the Red SOPs
- 30:57Speaker 2: gonna trade a Chapman teams and rind out?
- 31:01Speaker 1: You know, he just got demoted, so I don't know
- 31:03Speaker 1: what's going to happen.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think they'll trade him. He's too young, so
- 31:06Speaker 2: they probably just want to fix him down in the
- 31:08Speaker 2: minor leagues.
- 31:09Speaker 1: If they get Chapman again, the other is gonna pull
- 31:11Speaker 1: their hair out because we have some bad memories with him.
- 31:13Speaker 1: But we'll have to see.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Well, I don't think the Red Sox would unless the
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yankees are going to give up something that the Red
- 31:21Speaker 2: Sox think would really help them. I don't think the
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yankees and Red Sox are going to make a trade.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I don't think. I don't think the Red Sox want
- 31:28Speaker 2: to give them Chapman back to help them. But I
- 31:31Speaker 2: could see Chapman getting traded, uh to a contending team
- 31:36Speaker 2: and uh but yeah no, if they could, if they
- 31:39Speaker 2: could stay above a five hundred, you know, uh, not
- 31:42Speaker 2: a above five hundred. Above five hundred would out with
- 31:45Speaker 2: with with Judge out, and we don't know how long
- 31:48Speaker 2: he's going to be out. Remember they said four to
- 31:50Speaker 2: six weeks and he'll be re examined, so if they
- 31:54Speaker 2: stick with that, he could be longer.
- 31:57Speaker 1: All right, Louis, Uh, I don't know. We haven't done
- 32:00Speaker 1: a Mets update in a minute, but we can. I
- 32:03Speaker 1: just don't know what's updates about them because.
- 32:05Speaker 2: There's nothing to update about them. There is really nothing.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Uh.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I mean, by the time they get their injured guys back,
- 32:12Speaker 2: like Glendor Alpharez made an amazing comeback a month before
- 32:16Speaker 2: you're supposed to last night. But uh, they it looks
- 32:21Speaker 2: like it looks like they're done. It looks like that
- 32:26Speaker 2: this year's Atlanta Braves of last year that couldn't get
- 32:29Speaker 2: their own way. Now next year they end up like
- 32:32Speaker 2: the Atlanta radge are this year. Okay, but we don't
- 32:35Speaker 2: know that.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Oh oh, speaking of gms. By the way, one last thing,
- 32:40Speaker 1: do you think after this postseason NBA Finals run in
- 32:43Speaker 1: the ring, maybe Dolan goes on the stage and it
- 32:45Speaker 1: announces the firing of Chris Drury at City Hall and
- 32:48Speaker 1: say we're rebuilding the next the Rangers next. Is that
- 32:50Speaker 1: a possibility, Louis, I'd love to.
- 32:51Speaker 2: See that, that is, Alex. I know you're I know
- 32:55Speaker 2: you're not a big fan of Chris Drury, but that
- 32:58Speaker 2: is not going to happen.
- 32:59Speaker 1: So we won't say are your keys of the cities
- 33:01Speaker 1: and a pink slip for Chris Jerry at the.
- 33:02Speaker 2: South That is not That is not going to happen.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Not not this year. Uh that not this year, that's
- 33:08Speaker 2: for sure. And uh again, you just your off Dolan.
- 33:13Speaker 2: All the Knick fans who said that he's a terrible owner,
- 33:15Speaker 2: get rid of them all this kind of crap. Uh.
- 33:18Speaker 2: You know, he's going to be the owner of a
- 33:21Speaker 2: of an NBA champion if they can get one more.
- 33:24Speaker 1: These guys were destroying news paper boxes. What is this?
- 33:28Speaker 1: I've never seen the city like this. Anyway, we we
- 33:31Speaker 1: gotta pray, and I pray for the two guys I
- 33:33Speaker 1: saw at Houston Hall wearing Spurs jerseys during the during
- 33:39Speaker 1: the OKC thing. By the way, New Yorkers are not
- 33:41Speaker 1: like that, so please don't think that this anybody watching nationally.
- 33:44Speaker 1: We are not all like that. In fact, Louis, one
- 33:47Speaker 1: last thing. The other night, they showed the Kraos outside
- 33:50Speaker 1: Brian Park with all the with all the guys bringing
- 33:53Speaker 1: down the bus stop signs, and then you watch Bryan
- 33:57Speaker 1: Park is the most civilized thing in the world. Like
- 34:00Speaker 1: want to juxtaposition right outside the park. I don't understand it.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Louis, No, it's it's it's disheartening, it really is. That's not.
- 34:12Speaker 2: That's what not what New York sports fans are like
- 34:14Speaker 2: and like, will you to jump.
- 34:15Speaker 1: On the fourth of July Barges next? Is that? What's?
- 34:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, it's true.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I mean, by the way, that will make for a
- 34:24Speaker 1: fun two point fifty celebration. If the Knicks win the
- 34:26Speaker 1: Ring this year, it's like all part of it, and
- 34:28Speaker 1: then maybe Team USA soccer, who wins the whole thing.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I don't know how likely that is in soccer, but
- 34:34Speaker 1: you never.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Know, Alex. If that happens, If Team USA, if they
- 34:38Speaker 2: get passed, if they get to the quarter finals, it
- 34:41Speaker 2: would be a great accomplishment in my opinion today, But
- 34:46Speaker 2: it starts today at USA Place Tomorrow night at nine
- 34:50Speaker 2: o'clock versus Paraguay on Fox. I think they're going They'll
- 34:54Speaker 2: get out of the group stage and hopefully they can
- 34:57Speaker 2: win a knockout round or two and at least make
- 34:59Speaker 2: it inter thing.
- 35:02Speaker 1: And uh, and the all roads lead through I'm sorry,
- 35:05Speaker 1: New York New Jersey Stadium.
- 35:08Speaker 2: And that's right. Get get it right, kid, get it right.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And yet it's the most corporate event in the world.
- 35:15Speaker 1: They have to call it a non corporate thing. It's
- 35:17Speaker 1: so funny, it is.
- 35:20Speaker 2: It's it's so hypocritical. You're right, you re you really,
- 35:23Speaker 2: you really hit the nail on the head there.
- 35:26Speaker 1: And as you know, I've never been a fan of
- 35:27Speaker 1: because of the corruption. I've always felt they had.
- 35:30Speaker 2: But oh my god, corruption it will be there forever.
- 35:34Speaker 2: It's so deep that it can never be I don't
- 35:36Speaker 2: think it could ever be cleaned up.
- 35:38Speaker 1: No, they can't be. But lou on that note, that's
- 35:40Speaker 1: Terminal's take on everything going on in the city. Everything's
- 35:43Speaker 1: focused on the Knicks right now and should be. Is
- 35:48Speaker 1: there one game away? The back pages are all about that,
- 35:51Speaker 1: as it should be. And uh, the o MG is back,
- 35:56Speaker 1: except it's the Knicks this time on the New York Post.
- 35:58Speaker 1: How about that, Louis.
- 35:59Speaker 2: They're gonna unlike the match, They're going to get the
- 36:02Speaker 2: job done. They're completing the job.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I never really, I haven't asked this in a while,
- 36:07Speaker 1: but maybe give listeners a fresh take, because I was
- 36:08Speaker 1: just thinking about this in those NBA Finals runs. I
- 36:13Speaker 1: know it's New Jersey, but did you feel a p
- 36:17Speaker 1: did you feel the palpable nature against the Lakers? Like
- 36:21Speaker 1: was there some kind of hope for the Nets in
- 36:23Speaker 1: those years? I mean it was a pretty jump in
- 36:25Speaker 1: place for a while.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, the thing is against the Lakers, and you know,
- 36:29Speaker 2: I will I knew that Game seven again when the
- 36:33Speaker 2: Lakers were playing Sacramento in the Western Conference Finals. We
- 36:36Speaker 2: had we had already won the conference championship against Boston,
- 36:42Speaker 2: and uh, I was praying that Sacramento, up three games
- 36:48Speaker 2: to two, would win the series against the Lakers because
- 36:52Speaker 2: I know we could beat them. I know we couldn't
- 36:55Speaker 2: beat the Lakers because and not because of Kobe, because
- 36:59Speaker 2: of Shack. Because shaq Is was a man mountain. The
- 37:05Speaker 2: the officials didn't know how to how to officiate him. Uh,
- 37:09Speaker 2: you know, we have we didn't have the We had
- 37:11Speaker 2: Aaron Williams, Jason Collins, and Todd McCullough to go against him.
- 37:16Speaker 2: That was a mismatch. As good a team as we
- 37:19Speaker 2: had going to the finals, we couldn't handle Shack and
- 37:21Speaker 2: we didn't. Uh, and that's why we lost four straight, now.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Thought.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Then the next year we played the Spurs, a Spur
- 37:31Speaker 2: team with four future Hall of famers at the peak
- 37:34Speaker 2: of their career and late in their career. David Robinson
- 37:40Speaker 2: was late in his career but was still a you know,
- 37:43Speaker 2: still a great player. Tim Duncan the greatest power forward,
- 37:46Speaker 2: flash center, depending on how you want to categorize him,
- 37:51Speaker 2: but he was really a power forward of all time. Jernobili,
- 37:54Speaker 2: Tony Parker. But I thought we were winning that series.
- 37:58Speaker 2: It was too too I thought we were gonna going
- 38:00Speaker 2: to win the series when it was to to as
- 38:02Speaker 2: great as they were, as great with all those Hall
- 38:05Speaker 2: of Fame players that they had, I thought we were
- 38:07Speaker 2: going to win that series. Yeah, but we didn't. Then,
- 38:11Speaker 2: you know, that's that's the way it goes. But again,
- 38:13Speaker 2: to getting to back to back finals was an incredible,
- 38:16Speaker 2: incredible thrill.
- 38:18Speaker 1: And then I'm sorry, I had a bit of a
- 38:20Speaker 1: soft spot for the Nets and Jason Kid going to
- 38:22Speaker 1: the Knicks just kind of rubbed me the wrong way,
- 38:25Speaker 1: and always will I.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Can't well he went he went for his last year.
- 38:29Speaker 2: I mean, nobody ever, even thinks of him as a
- 38:31Speaker 2: nick You know that happens a lot Ron Santo is
- 38:35Speaker 2: known as as a Hall of Fame Cub. He plays
- 38:37Speaker 2: the last two years as a White Sox. It's it's
- 38:39Speaker 2: not unusual.
- 38:40Speaker 1: And by the way, that's a team to watch. The
- 38:42Speaker 1: White Socks are the team to watch this year because
- 38:45Speaker 1: they looked really good. And this kid that's it a Homer.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I guess Bob Cossa is calling games for Chicago.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Now.
- 38:51Speaker 1: I didn't know they they.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Had throwback Night on Tuesday, so they threw and I
- 38:56Speaker 2: missed it. I missed it because I was watching the
- 38:59Speaker 2: Stanley Cup game and uh where they I think they
- 39:02Speaker 2: used throwback.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Graphics finals on too. I forgot about.
- 39:08Speaker 2: And so I didn't watch any any of that game.
- 39:11Speaker 2: But they had Costas come in and do the game
- 39:13Speaker 2: with Steve Stone. I guess Steve Stone and costants her buddies.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Costas was in Chicago on Sunday for the Sunday night
- 39:21Speaker 2: game between the Cubs and the White Sox. He stayed over.
- 39:23Speaker 2: He did he did the the Braves, uh White Sox game.
- 39:28Speaker 2: And he loves baseball. It's he loves yeah, he loves baseball.
- 39:34Speaker 1: All right. Well, I know our hockey fans are waiting
- 39:37Speaker 1: for this or we should get into this. It's game five,
- 39:40Speaker 1: it's tied. I don't know. Man, every time the Hurricanes
- 39:43Speaker 1: win a game, I'm telling you all the time, I'm
- 39:46Speaker 1: happy for them. I want to see them make this
- 39:48Speaker 1: a series. I want to see them because they definitely
- 39:50Speaker 1: don't feel like the favorite right now, I'll put it
- 39:53Speaker 1: that way.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Well, I would say it's a toss up. And one
- 39:56Speaker 2: thing I was wrong on And you know, when we
- 39:58Speaker 2: talked about this just before the series began, it was
- 40:04Speaker 2: gonna low. We thought it was gonna be a low
- 40:06Speaker 2: scoring serious I said it was going to be a
- 40:07Speaker 2: low scoring series, and it's not. It's a high scoring
- 40:11Speaker 2: Stanley Cup Final. It's the second fine scoring Stanley Cup
- 40:17Speaker 2: Final through four games in history. So these are two
- 40:21Speaker 2: terrific defensive teams but they have not played up to
- 40:26Speaker 2: their defensive standards so far. Vegas is getting so many
- 40:30Speaker 2: odd man rutters against Carolina, which I think was possible.
- 40:36Speaker 2: And the goaltending has been okay, it's not Schroken and
- 40:41Speaker 2: Andrew Sterkin or Vazileskian and Bobrowski in nets, but the
- 40:47Speaker 2: goaltending has been been okay, but there's you know, a
- 40:49Speaker 2: lot of chances, and the goaltenders have still made big saves.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Now Brandon Boosey is gonna play tonight. He hadn't played
- 40:55Speaker 2: at all. Now we don't know if Anderson's hurt. What
- 40:59Speaker 2: the dla is? I heard this morning that he skated
- 41:03Speaker 2: on his own, but he's not. It's gonna be Bussy
- 41:06Speaker 2: and Gold tonight, and I would be shocked if it wasn't.
- 41:10Speaker 2: I think Caroline is still going. It's gonna go seven, Alex.
- 41:14Speaker 2: It might go seven, it might go to overtime. We
- 41:17Speaker 2: might have a game seven overtime. That's how the way
- 41:21Speaker 2: these teams are. No.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and and uh, you know Stall's been around for
- 41:25Speaker 1: a while, so see him make those goals.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, Alex, he has been tremendous. He's a monster.
- 41:31Speaker 2: They can't you know, they they can't move him out
- 41:33Speaker 2: of uh, out of the slot.
- 41:35Speaker 1: That he's part of the Stall Brothers, isn't he?
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yes, he is one of the five who played in
- 41:38Speaker 2: the NHL.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Do that See? I know a little hockey. I love it.
- 41:42Speaker 1: But one last thing, we're talking about the network.
- 41:46Speaker 4: This is a big year and I have for for
- 41:52Speaker 4: for the ESPN, ABC, You've got absolutely, You've got the
- 41:56Speaker 4: finals for the NBA and Stanley Cup, and then you
- 41:58Speaker 4: got the.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Super Bowl in feb You worry. Yeah, Oh my god,
- 42:01Speaker 1: Disney Kids, Mickey Mouse has to be running it, sitting
- 42:05Speaker 1: and bathing in money right now.
- 42:07Speaker 2: I have to say, well, I'm sure the ratings for
- 42:10Speaker 2: last night's game are going to be off the charts.
- 42:13Speaker 1: Probably last week. In fact, they said Monday night's game
- 42:16Speaker 1: was more than ninety eight, which is interesting because the
- 42:18Speaker 1: Knicks were on in ninety nine. But I guess I
- 42:23Speaker 1: don't know why why that wouldn't be more views than
- 42:25Speaker 1: ninety eight. Anyway, this is gonna top a lot of records,
- 42:28Speaker 1: I think, especially last night.
- 42:30Speaker 2: So yeah, no, last night was a game for the
- 42:33Speaker 2: agent to be sure, you.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Know, put that tip in in the louver. You know
- 42:38Speaker 1: that tip in is just.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Believe me, it's going to be portraits of that tip
- 42:43Speaker 2: and that they're going to sell for you know, for
- 42:45Speaker 2: five thousand dollars. It's gonna be bobbleheads of that tip
- 42:48Speaker 2: in that they're going to give out next year at
- 42:50Speaker 2: a game. You're going to see how they're gonna merchandise
- 42:53Speaker 2: that og tip in.
- 42:55Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what I did. I put it
- 42:57Speaker 1: on my Finax creator page. Not not the picture, but
- 42:59Speaker 1: I play a shirt of on the no beyond my
- 43:02Speaker 1: Finax collections.
- 43:03Speaker 2: You can check that out, you know yet, I know
- 43:06Speaker 2: I was gonna check it out. Just before we started.
- 43:09Speaker 2: One of the we got I know, we gotta go.
- 43:11Speaker 2: One of the five most underrayed players in the NBA
- 43:13Speaker 2: is og and.
- 43:15Speaker 1: You love that. He is the Matsui of this team.
- 43:17Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I would, I would definitely say that's a very good comparison.
- 43:25Speaker 2: And you get gotta remember this is gonna be He's
- 43:27Speaker 2: it's gonna be a second championship one. You know he
- 43:30Speaker 2: went with Toronto. Yeah, so uh, you know, the guy's underrated.
- 43:36Speaker 2: R J.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Barrett, best of luck. In fact, people forget about this.
- 43:39Speaker 1: He had a huge shot. I think it was against.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Philly, it was against it was against Kavalkavlets.
- 43:47Speaker 1: But I mean it was a huge shot for the
- 43:48Speaker 1: Raptors in that moment. Look, I want to see him succeed.
- 43:52Speaker 1: I always thought Barrett was a good piece to this
- 43:54Speaker 1: next team for Alex, but this trade paid off.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Now, Alex, be honest, you know, we know he said
- 44:00Speaker 2: her a long time when Knicks made that trade, when
- 44:04Speaker 2: they made the trade, when they traded the two young guys. O, G.
- 44:08Speaker 2: You weren't so sure.
- 44:09Speaker 1: I wasn't, and I remember because I talked to you
- 44:12Speaker 1: about it. I wasn't so sure because I thought Barrett
- 44:14Speaker 1: could be like the future of the Knicks. And and
- 44:17Speaker 1: but Leon rose another move that he knew what he
- 44:20Speaker 1: was doing. Look at Albarado another move that he knew
- 44:22Speaker 1: what he was doing. This this deadline. I mean, see,
- 44:26Speaker 1: people don't think about the NBA deadline as much, but
- 44:28Speaker 1: he he won the deadline. I mean, Albarado is the
- 44:31Speaker 1: win of the deadline as far as I'm concerned.
- 44:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he played, He's played fine.
- 44:39Speaker 1: And I don't know he was. That was the problem.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I don't really know who he was. And then all
- 44:43Speaker 1: of a sudden, a couple of years later, I'm like,
- 44:45Speaker 1: oh my god, if I don't know he's healthy, this
- 44:47Speaker 1: team makes a run and I feel like my thought
- 44:50Speaker 1: prizes is vindicated now because I knew. You know, he
- 44:52Speaker 1: wasn't healthy last year. Really he wasn't even really healthy
- 44:55Speaker 1: a couple of years ago. He's healthy, and that is
- 44:58Speaker 1: such a difference maker for this well.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I also think he's hard working in his game. I
- 45:03Speaker 2: think he is a guy who's improved his game offensively.
- 45:06Speaker 2: I think he's better offensively now than he's been at
- 45:09Speaker 2: any time in his career. No, I really, I mean.
- 45:14Speaker 1: And when we keep saying, Louis, this is the core,
- 45:16Speaker 1: this is the time right now, this is your prime.
- 45:19Speaker 1: And I think it's also reverbering. I think you're gonna
- 45:23Speaker 1: see Jackson Dark play Sharper this year. I think you're
- 45:25Speaker 1: gonna see Judge when he comes back. I think they're
- 45:28Speaker 1: all inspired by this run.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I have to say, oh, well again, Alex, that might
- 45:33Speaker 2: be stretching it a little bit, but we'll see.
- 45:36Speaker 1: No, this is this is gonna make an impact on
- 45:38Speaker 1: the city sports. I really believe that beyond just winning
- 45:41Speaker 1: in a championship, this is gonna affect everything. So we'll see.
- 45:45Speaker 1: All Right, Louis, I gotta head out all right, by work,
- 45:48Speaker 1: but always love talking to you on Terminolo's take. Thank you, Alex,
- 45:52Speaker 1: all right, talk to you soon.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Appreciate it. Bye bye,
