- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily padproduction.
- 0:06Speaker 2: This is the Team Up Playshow podcast. Hello, and thank
- 0:25Speaker 2: you so much for tuning in to the Team Up
- 0:28Speaker 2: Playshow podcast. This is an improvised, narrative actual play show
- 0:35Speaker 2: using the new superhero TTRPG called Team Up. If you
- 0:40Speaker 2: want to learn more about the game system, go read
- 0:43Speaker 2: the manual and start building your own characters. All of
- 0:47Speaker 2: that and more is available at teamuparpg dot com. Some
- 0:50Speaker 2: of the language we use could be a bit confusing
- 0:53Speaker 2: if you don't know the rules. For instance, we say
- 0:55Speaker 2: l's a lot when we're talking about distance. L's is
- 0:58Speaker 2: the unit of measurement that we made up for Team Up.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It's a cube of about twenty feet. All the rules
- 1:04Speaker 2: are in the manual and some of the rules we
- 1:06Speaker 2: discuss in session zero on this podcast feed. If you
- 1:10Speaker 2: missed that, Our play show stars a wonderful cast of improvisers,
- 1:14Speaker 2: including Ethan Goldman as the Paper.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Phantom, Stephanie Fackler as Quanta.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Ben as Riejeel, and I'm Johnny Wilson. I created Team
- 1:25Speaker 2: Up and I'm the game director for this show. Our
- 1:28Speaker 2: story takes place in New Babble, a retro futuristic city
- 1:32Speaker 2: built to send humanity to space. With its purpose long
- 1:35Speaker 2: since realized, it stands as both a monument and a tomb,
- 1:39Speaker 2: separated from the outside world. Welcome to the City of Bones.
- 2:06Speaker 2: The long gray flats that stretch from Kansas City to
- 2:12Speaker 2: the visual relief of the rocky mountains are enough to
- 2:16Speaker 2: make someone go mad. In monotony, where Colorado, Nebraska, and
- 2:24Speaker 2: Kansas meet, a city was built to shine like a
- 2:29Speaker 2: diamond in soot. America gave up this land to the world.
- 2:38Speaker 2: The city was to be a self governing body guided
- 2:43Speaker 2: by the powers of the world, to allow humanity to
- 2:46Speaker 2: reach up into the stars to reach God and ask
- 2:52Speaker 2: his help. The city of New Babel was built to
- 2:57Speaker 2: save humanity from us up Earth's resources and dying to drought, starvation, heat,
- 3:04Speaker 2: and overpopulation, and it was a glorious triumph. Billions fled
- 3:13Speaker 2: a shriveling Earth to find more verdant homes in the stars.
- 3:21Speaker 2: When the last great space barge left, however, communication with
- 3:28Speaker 2: the pioneers was mysteriously cut off, and they haven't been
- 3:32Speaker 2: heard from to this day. With so many leaving, the
- 3:38Speaker 2: world felt empty, but it did heal. It worked, But
- 3:47Speaker 2: New Babble its purpose and its funding, its support, and
- 3:52Speaker 2: its connection to the rest of the world all became
- 3:55Speaker 2: unnecessary and wasteful. The city was left to its own devices,
- 4:01Speaker 2: isolated as a pariah of the weird and unnatural. The
- 4:09Speaker 2: city now ambles aimlessly, as though undead, moving due to
- 4:16Speaker 2: its millions of remaining inhabitants, but purposeless and stuck in
- 4:22Speaker 2: the mud of its waking death. It is a city
- 4:27Speaker 2: of bones, ungoverned by outside influence. The powerful here have
- 4:48Speaker 2: made kings of themselves, funneling the abundance of the city
- 4:52Speaker 2: to their bellies and coffers, while the poor and wretched
- 4:57Speaker 2: languish in their own humanity. Through the rot of decaying
- 5:02Speaker 2: visionaries and heroes, and in a graveyard of progress and
- 5:07Speaker 2: scientific discovery, three new Babylonians have found themselves blossoming with
- 5:15Speaker 2: wondrous abilities beyond the natural human experience. Where these abilities
- 5:22Speaker 2: have come from is still much of a mystery to them,
- 5:27Speaker 2: and the amount of life that they will bring back
- 5:31Speaker 2: to the dead city of Bones has yet to be decided.
- 5:52Speaker 2: A deep night has fallen on our city, and the
- 5:55Speaker 2: works of the wicked are easier to hide in darkness.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Will there be an answer from the forces of light.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Jason Turner crouches a pale gargoyle of paper, blending in
- 6:41Speaker 2: with the Gothic gargoyles of stone to your left and
- 6:45Speaker 2: to your right, on top of the Pendragon Library. Here
- 6:53Speaker 2: you have a good view of the part of the
- 6:55Speaker 2: city that lies in Nebraska, colloquially called Ask. But you
- 7:04Speaker 2: have made a year territory. Who or what do we
- 7:09Speaker 2: see perched here on top of your domain?
- 7:14Speaker 3: Jason is wrapped in a paper cloak, a paper hood,
- 7:19Speaker 3: and a long flowing paper cape, a CVS receipt as
- 7:24Speaker 3: a scarf, billowing in the wind. As he looks down
- 7:31Speaker 3: at the city below. He he can feel the paper
- 7:34Speaker 3: rustling on the street, and there's a darkness beside him.
- 7:41Speaker 2: The book.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Speaks to Jason, this part of the city's under our prediction,
- 7:49Speaker 3: and Jason replies, but crouching hurts my knees.
- 7:52Speaker 2: You're getting ready to leap into the night. Lately you've
- 7:56Speaker 2: been squeezing the Irish mob to get in information about
- 8:00Speaker 2: a very specific book. There is someone who might know something,
- 8:05Speaker 2: and you know where they're going to be, just a
- 8:07Speaker 2: few blocks over in a bar. Just as you get
- 8:12Speaker 2: ready to leap, you hear a voice, Jason, Jason, what
- 8:21Speaker 2: it's Page? Right? You feel behind you the kind of
- 8:27Speaker 2: trapdoor in that comes up to the roof of the
- 8:31Speaker 2: library starts to open. Jason, Arthur said, you'd be out here.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I'm just sweeping the roof. Page pops her
- 8:41Speaker 2: head out. Immediately. All of the paper just like folds
- 8:45Speaker 2: up in a big crumpled ball. Behind me.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I'm just standing awkwardly on the edge of the roof. Yep,
- 8:54Speaker 3: now you hey, Hey, what are you Page?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Hi? What are you doing up here? Sweeping? Sweeping the roof? Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 2: you know the roof It leaks, and so I thought
- 9:07Speaker 2: I should clean it. Probably would help. Okay, well, I
- 9:11Speaker 2: get okay, I guess that doesn't matter. What I could
- 9:15Speaker 2: ask you the same question, what are you doing here?
- 9:17Speaker 2: I came to find you. I wanted to talk to
- 9:20Speaker 2: you about something. Oh okay, yeah, yah, yeah, ye yeah.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Do you want to go inside? Do you want to
- 9:24Speaker 2: hang out here? It's kind of nice with here.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Jason is like blushing beyond belief. This giant wad of
- 9:47Speaker 3: paper just shaped like a person behind him.
- 9:53Speaker 2: What what? Uh m? You said? You came out here
- 9:57Speaker 2: checking me? What's it? What's it? Yeah? Well, I had
- 10:01Speaker 2: a couple of questions. Well, one question, and I wanted
- 10:04Speaker 2: to tell you something. Listen, Arthur told me that we're
- 10:10Speaker 2: the library is good on money somehow.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, just a mysterious.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Donor dropped off some cash labeled for library. Really, that's amazing. Yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 2: maybe not everyone in the city is so bad. I
- 10:29Speaker 2: guess I was worried. I mean not with all the
- 10:32Speaker 2: funding being cut from Yeah, I just I was worried. Well,
- 10:38Speaker 2: this library has been here for a long time, and
- 10:41Speaker 2: I wouldn't let anything happen to it. Good to know
- 10:45Speaker 2: somebody cares. The other thing I wanted to tell you
- 10:52Speaker 2: I've been I know, I've been kind of on your
- 10:55Speaker 2: ass about telling me what happened to Arthur and all
- 11:01Speaker 2: his bruising, and but I wanted to tell you that
- 11:08Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago, the guys that were hurting Arthur,
- 11:12Speaker 2: they they came to grab me. What Yeah, they grabbed me,
- 11:22Speaker 2: and uh well, they tied me up and I heard
- 11:28Speaker 2: them talking they were gonna use me as as bait basically,
- 11:33Speaker 2: or as collateral. Oh my gosh, are you all right? Yeah?
- 11:39Speaker 2: It was amazing. This. You're not gonna believe this. I don't.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I haven't been able to tell anybody except Arthur because
- 11:49Speaker 2: it sounds crazy. But someone saved me, like a like
- 11:56Speaker 2: a spooky like I don't know, spooky, sexy, cool, like
- 12:05Speaker 2: what are the adjectives you would use to describe it?
- 12:08Speaker 2: It was mostly terrifying. Oh yeah, fair, it was like
- 12:13Speaker 2: paper and pulp and dripping. And he killed he killed people, yeah,
- 12:23Speaker 2: but they were the bad people. Yeah, yeah, he I
- 12:28Speaker 2: guess he killed the people that well, one guy he killed.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I guess he just killed the one guy. I mean.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And but you're okay though, right, because he saved you.
- 12:40Speaker 2: This thing saved you. Yeah? Yeah, And I I wanted
- 12:45Speaker 2: to let you know that, like I I went through that,
- 12:51Speaker 2: and I didn't want to keep that from you. I
- 12:56Speaker 2: appreciate it. I'm sorry that you had to and do
- 13:00Speaker 2: her something scary. Do you do you want to hug? Yeah? Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Jason realizes he's got a giant wad of paper on
- 13:14Speaker 3: his back, so quickly he's like, oh, look a bird.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Make a make a lie check damn it, I got three.
- 13:28Speaker 2: She does not turn to look at a bird because
- 13:31Speaker 2: it's nighttime. She's like, Jason is dark, what do you bird?
- 13:35Speaker 3: Bird can be at night. Anyway, I'm good on hugs.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I actually decided I'm uncomfortable. What, don't worry about it.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I've got a yeah, Jason skin Yeah, I'm just itchy, uncomfortable,
- 14:00Speaker 3: weird guy. Anyway, I'm sweeping the roof here. I'm so
- 14:03Speaker 3: sorry that you were traumatized.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Okay, Jason, We've been friends for so long now. I
- 14:12Speaker 2: I just sometimes don't know what to expect still.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I mean, my only other friends are Arthur and books,
- 14:19Speaker 3: so I'm poorly socialized.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well you should meet people like I'm like, we're
- 14:26Speaker 2: good friends, but like you can meet other people. Yeah, okay,
- 14:32Speaker 2: you meet on that people. I know a lot of people. Yeah, okay,
- 14:35Speaker 2: name whatever.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Anyway, I'm glad you're safe. Thanks for coming up here
- 14:45Speaker 3: to check out me. I'm good.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Trying to get Paige to shuffle on the paper. Phantom
- 14:53Speaker 2: has a date to keep and he'd hate to be late.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I'm hoping Phantom would be involved. This was giving Phantom
- 15:07Speaker 1: of the library.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Hey, you just go back inside. I'm I got a
- 15:13Speaker 3: bunch of work to do and i'll maybe I'll see
- 15:16Speaker 3: you tomorrow.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, Hey, thanks for listening. Chair, Sorry you
- 15:22Speaker 2: missed that super sweet bird. Yeah all right by Jason. Bye.
- 15:29Speaker 2: She turns around and heads down the trapdoor into the library.
- 15:34Speaker 3: The paper immediately like uncompresses and re wraps around Jason.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Oh so smooth, dude. Oh wow, you're a real casanova.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Shut up, let's go beat up people. Fuck you.
- 15:52Speaker 2: You know where the bar is? How do you get there?
- 15:54Speaker 3: Form a stronger, more rigid cardboard like board underneath me
- 16:03Speaker 3: in the shape of a skateboard. Hop on, extend my
- 16:07Speaker 3: massive paper cape and start like skating on the air
- 16:12Speaker 3: down through the city streets, hi above the cars, using.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Paper to control your trajectory and carve your way through
- 16:23Speaker 2: the city air. You a light on top of a
- 16:27Speaker 2: bar in ask It is a place often visited by
- 16:34Speaker 2: members of the Irish Gang. And you get there just
- 16:38Speaker 2: in time. You wanted to be there a little earlier
- 16:41Speaker 2: to be able to make sure you were right. But
- 16:44Speaker 2: you get there just in time to see a man
- 16:47Speaker 2: walking out. The man you're looking for, a thin, wiry man.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You've seen him before the night you saved Page. He
- 16:58Speaker 2: wears a track suit and he's coming out the bar
- 17:00Speaker 2: with two bodyguards. I recognize this man as Kevin. No,
- 17:08Speaker 2: not Kevin. I don't think you know this guy's name. Okay,
- 17:11Speaker 2: just a random Irish mobster. He's a copple in the
- 17:16Speaker 2: Irish mob he was there that night and ran away
- 17:19Speaker 2: from you in terror. I can use that.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I'm gonna start whipping up some of the rusty newspapers
- 17:30Speaker 3: in a nearby alley to make some noise just in
- 17:34Speaker 3: the shadows. A hand forms a beckoning finger.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Shuh, roll a cokes check to try to get this
- 17:45Speaker 2: guy to a sneak into this alley after your big
- 17:49Speaker 2: old hand. Nice kind of empower it with my paper
- 17:52Speaker 2: absolutely paper coat. This is an average check. It's a second. Ooh,
- 17:59Speaker 2: you succeed to four. He sees the big hand in
- 18:02Speaker 2: the alleyway, a finger beckoning. It like a big cartoon
- 18:08Speaker 2: steam coming off a pie. You know. He looks to
- 18:14Speaker 2: his bodyguards and just says, hey, I'm gonna take a piss,
- 18:18Speaker 2: and he walks into the alley. I'll silently drop down
- 18:25Speaker 2: behind him as he's doing his business. Don't turn around,
- 18:35Speaker 2: huh huh, No, don't turn around, You'll get piss ever,
- 18:40Speaker 2: just don't look at me. Okay, I'm not what the
- 18:46Speaker 2: what the hell are you? You're not? Are you? I'm
- 18:49Speaker 2: your worst nightmare. No, if you're not willing to talk, Okay,
- 18:54Speaker 2: what do you know? No? No, man, I don't know anything.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Let me threaten you first. Hang on, come on, I'm
- 19:00Speaker 3: working on this. I'm a paper cut your dick. No,
- 19:06Speaker 3: that's right.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Oh no, this is why you shouldn't be in alleys.
- 19:11Speaker 3: That's what that's Yep, that's good. It's solid advice. Now listen,
- 19:18Speaker 3: I need information.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you want to know? Man? Like I said,
- 19:22Speaker 2: I don't know much. What do I want to know?
- 19:27Speaker 2: What am I trying to? What's my overall?
- 19:31Speaker 1: What?
- 19:32Speaker 2: So you are? You are seeking knowledge about the book? Oh,
- 19:36Speaker 2: I'm wondering where it came from and how what is it?
- 19:40Speaker 2: The last guy you interrogated didn't know anything, right.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I need to know about a book. I know you
- 19:48Speaker 3: were working with the library giving them illegal ancient texts.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Where did they come from? Who's your supplier? I'll cut
- 19:57Speaker 3: you right.
- 19:58Speaker 2: On the dick. Listen, man, listen, I don't know anything
- 20:02Speaker 2: about that book. Okay, that wasn't my area. If Kevin
- 20:06Speaker 2: didn't know anything about it, then then I don't. Then
- 20:09Speaker 2: we don't know. If not Kevin, then who give me
- 20:12Speaker 2: a name? Listen? I push him up against the wall, Dick,
- 20:18Speaker 2: But what is it? Asked to the glass brick, Dick
- 20:22Speaker 2: to brick. Oh, dick to brick is so good, that's
- 20:27Speaker 2: very very Oh, guys, Dick to brick balls to the walls.
- 20:37Speaker 2: You push him, Dick to brick balls to walls, and
- 20:42Speaker 2: he says, hey, hey, no, no, listen, I don't know
- 20:45Speaker 2: anything about the book, but I'll give you something though.
- 20:48Speaker 2: There's something going on. There's other magic happening in the city.
- 20:52Speaker 2: That book was magic, right right, Maybe this magic has
- 20:55Speaker 2: something to do with that magic. I'm listening. There's a guy.
- 21:00Speaker 2: He's using magic and electricity to give people like superhuman powers.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Tell me where to go? Okay, one of the other
- 21:11Speaker 2: Coppos was supposed to go there tonight for like a
- 21:14Speaker 2: like a show and tell. They were gonna like bid
- 21:17Speaker 2: bid on the new people that they were making. It's
- 21:22Speaker 2: called Upper Market in Kono. It's like a little uh,
- 21:26Speaker 2: it's a little store. I swear if you're lying, I'm
- 21:32Speaker 2: gonna cut you right on the No. Don't, please, dude,
- 21:35Speaker 2: please don't dude. You know who I am? Yeah? I
- 21:42Speaker 2: think I do? You know my name? Yeah? Say it?
- 21:47Speaker 2: Pap paper Phantom that's looking right. He finally turns, He
- 22:10Speaker 2: finally turns, and you're gone. Newspapers just rustling on the ground.
- 22:17Speaker 2: You start running on the rooftops, flitting in between buildings,
- 22:22Speaker 2: coasting through the air towards Kono.
- 22:47Speaker 1: He's looking at me.
- 22:51Speaker 2: One unique thing about the city of Babel is that
- 22:54Speaker 2: there is a race of robotic people with metallic skin,
- 22:58Speaker 2: human needs, and it seems like they have human souls.
- 23:04Speaker 2: They all showed up mysteriously after the Evos were forced
- 23:07Speaker 2: to space sixty years ago. We catch up with one
- 23:13Speaker 2: of those people now, Ronnie, you've had to change your
- 23:19Speaker 2: way of life. Your face was plastered on the news.
- 23:24Speaker 2: You've been labeled a murderer and a heretic. But the
- 23:30Speaker 2: trail you're on now is hot, and at the end
- 23:34Speaker 2: of it is the righteous retribution of a lightning strike.
- 23:41Speaker 2: You're on the tail of one Gavriel vena shore, A
- 23:46Speaker 2: sharply dressed man wearing a bowler hat with a blue
- 23:50Speaker 2: ribbon on it. Who do we see, dancing windborne over
- 23:57Speaker 2: the rooftops and fire escapes in pursuit of your mark.
- 24:04Speaker 1: A young day woman with opalescent skin. But I think
- 24:12Speaker 1: for this purpose she is dressed head to toe in
- 24:16Speaker 1: black and has like sunglasses on to cover up her
- 24:19Speaker 1: glowing day eyes.
- 24:22Speaker 2: A quick update on your friend Gabe. Gabe went back
- 24:27Speaker 2: to the church and he told them he found you
- 24:31Speaker 2: dead by a blade. He brought them a piece of
- 24:36Speaker 2: your metal skin, and he was allowed back in their
- 24:40Speaker 2: graces so that he could get information for you. He's
- 24:45Speaker 2: in your ear piece. Oh awesome, what do you see?
- 24:52Speaker 1: What do I see?
- 24:54Speaker 2: You're following this man, Gabrielle. You are in Cone know, walking,
- 25:02Speaker 2: He's just walking in the streets. You kind of found
- 25:04Speaker 2: his place of residence and now you're following him.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I'm just following him down the street. How much else
- 25:13Speaker 1: to report?
- 25:14Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, after they lost Dirk, there was a bunch
- 25:20Speaker 2: of stuff about like needing to find a new weapon,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and they said that there was like some sort of
- 25:29Speaker 2: bidding tonight at his place. His place, well, like it's
- 25:37Speaker 2: called like his store.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Maybe that's where he's going. Now, Yeah, I'll check back
- 25:42Speaker 1: in a minute.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Okay, we keep following, Gabrielle keeps walking. We go back
- 25:50Speaker 2: in time just a few days to a different night.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Thunder rumbles outside me, and of your face on the
- 26:02Speaker 2: TV flashes like lightning through your mind. Your roommate Jillian
- 26:08Speaker 2: is there gawking as you stare numbly at the wall.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Jillian's voice starts breaking through. Ronnie, Ronnie, are you okay?
- 26:23Speaker 2: Ronnie's It's gotta be a mistake, right, You didn't do that?
- 26:26Speaker 1: No, No, I didn't do that. Jerry did that, but
- 26:28Speaker 1: I don't. Oh no, maybe Jerk did that. Maybe maybe
- 26:38Speaker 1: it is my fault. It's all my fault. But I
- 26:45Speaker 1: didn't write any of that. I didn't write any of
- 26:47Speaker 1: that down. I didn't and I didn't actually kill anybody.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I don't think that, you know that, right. I don't
- 26:52Speaker 1: think humans are inferior today.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Of course, of course no. I wouldn't ever think that
- 26:59Speaker 2: they're They're using you.
- 27:02Speaker 1: What are they What are they trying to accomplish by this?
- 27:05Speaker 1: Who did that to Cherry?
- 27:08Speaker 2: They have used you most of your life, and now
- 27:15Speaker 2: they use your face to hide behind and conceal their
- 27:20Speaker 2: evil doings. A storm starts raging outside. What do you do?
- 27:31Speaker 1: I'll be back. I'll be back in a little bit.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Okay, what are you going to do?
- 27:37Speaker 1: I don't know. Okay, be careful, go outside, go up
- 27:43Speaker 1: to the roof. Is it raining yet?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yes?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Let the rain hit my clothes, my skin. I can
- 28:00Speaker 1: feel the lightning and the atmosphere, can feel the currents
- 28:08Speaker 1: going up and down. I can see you where it's
- 28:14Speaker 1: going to strike. You can feel where it's going to strike,
- 28:22Speaker 1: and I know who I need to strike.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Every drop of rain that hits you ignites electrical signals
- 28:51Speaker 2: that course through your body. The more you feel embodied
- 28:55Speaker 2: mind and spirit, it gives you more power, more energy
- 29:01Speaker 2: to mold. Lightning from the storm crashes into a rod
- 29:06Speaker 2: close to you. It moves so quickly, it burns so fiercely,
- 29:12Speaker 2: but it didn't surprise you. The lightning inside you build
- 29:18Speaker 2: the energy, roiling, coursing, almost involuntarily. The lightning whip slowly
- 29:28Speaker 2: curls out of your hand, coiling by your feet. You
- 29:37Speaker 2: lash it to a nearby building. Could you swing? You
- 29:48Speaker 2: think of the rain igniting the electricity in your body,
- 29:53Speaker 2: the lightning striking close to you. You think of your
- 29:57Speaker 2: time of visions when you became like Nan. You think
- 30:00Speaker 2: of you think of the wicked men who use this
- 30:04Speaker 2: city with no accountability. Swing, No, we just said it.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Strike You zip across your own lightning whip, traveling on
- 30:42Speaker 2: it as friend and master. How do you prepare yourself
- 30:49Speaker 2: for this new task, this new mantle.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I I crash through the storm until it passes over
- 31:00Speaker 1: New Babble, and then return to my apartment. Gabe, they
- 31:05Speaker 1: have to think I'm dead. Yeah, okay, I don't want
- 31:08Speaker 1: to ask you to do this, but would you go back?
- 31:11Speaker 2: No, that's smart, that's a good idea. I'll go back.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I'll get what info I can.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Then we find these four and we tear down what
- 31:18Speaker 1: they've made.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and I.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Find as much black clothing as I can find.
- 31:23Speaker 2: That I am.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Over myself head to toe.
- 31:30Speaker 2: They used your face to take the blame, and now
- 31:35Speaker 2: you'll take your face away from them, from everyone. You
- 31:41Speaker 2: ride out into the night, the unseen defender of the
- 31:48Speaker 2: used and oppressed. You are Quanta. We jump back up
- 32:28Speaker 2: to the night when you are trailing Gabrielle. He eventually
- 32:34Speaker 2: gets to an incredibly fancy haberdashery. There are mannequins in
- 32:41Speaker 2: the window dressed in the nicest of men's garb. Above
- 32:47Speaker 2: that is a very tall and very nice apartment complex.
- 32:55Speaker 2: As you come and he starts to unlock the door
- 32:58Speaker 2: and enter, I want you to make me a vision check.
- 33:04Speaker 2: As you look at the building and beyond.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Ok yeah, I would love to I'm looking at the building.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I would love to burst. As I've been following him,
- 33:14Speaker 1: do a scan to see what he's feeling.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely right, So go ahead and do that vision
- 33:20Speaker 2: check with your synaptic scan.
- 33:23Speaker 1: My new dice from Ethan five five.
- 33:27Speaker 2: That's a success.
- 33:29Speaker 1: So what is he feeling?
- 33:30Speaker 2: He's feeling excited, all right, he's feeling nervous. Okay, how
- 33:35Speaker 2: can you tell that, Ronnie?
- 33:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm blocking out everyone else on the street, everyone
- 33:41Speaker 1: else I can sense and looking at the electrical signals
- 33:47Speaker 1: going through his body to tell me what hormones are
- 33:51Speaker 1: being released, where they're going in his brain to understand
- 33:55Speaker 1: what he's feeling.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Yes, you send his excitement is his nerves kind of
- 34:18Speaker 2: hand in hand. And then on that successful vision check,
- 34:23Speaker 2: you also get a lay of the land of this building. Great,
- 34:27Speaker 2: so it's his You see the electrical wiring running through
- 34:31Speaker 2: his store, the bright lights that spotlight these mannequins. But
- 34:37Speaker 2: then also behind it and kind of past the facade
- 34:41Speaker 2: is an enormous warehouse that takes up a lot of
- 34:45Speaker 2: the block, kind of hidden by this initial run of
- 34:50Speaker 2: shops and buildings.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Like it's not obvious that it would be connected to
- 34:54Speaker 1: this shop.
- 34:56Speaker 2: It's obvious to you right right.
- 34:58Speaker 1: But from the street right, is anyone else in there?
- 35:01Speaker 1: Do I sense any other humanoid electricity from in there?
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yes? As you continue to scan, you sense a lot
- 35:11Speaker 2: of people back there, kape, Yeah, what's up?
- 35:14Speaker 1: There's there's a lot of people. Okay, where he's going? Okay,
- 35:19Speaker 1: I think I'm going to try to get in. Okay, great, Okay,
- 35:22Speaker 1: good luck, Okay.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Let me know. I mean, I don't know what I
- 35:25Speaker 2: could do, but let me know.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I just just figured to tell you I don't know.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it's good. It's important I know where you are.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yep, Okay, good luck. Well, I want to
- 35:37Speaker 1: scan to see if there's another way in with like
- 35:40Speaker 1: what I saw with like the electrical map of like
- 35:42Speaker 1: the wiring and stuff.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Is there a spot that's a door? The main thing
- 35:46Speaker 2: you sense, I think are lights? Well, roll me up.
- 35:50Speaker 2: I want I think I'll have an investigation or knowledge
- 35:54Speaker 2: check here. And it's going to be challenging, but you
- 35:57Speaker 2: can roll your scan with six six you beat me
- 36:03Speaker 2: by five. You follow the patterns of this electricity and
- 36:08Speaker 2: the wiring, and there's a spot on the roof in
- 36:12Speaker 2: the back that is strangely blank, and you think, oh,
- 36:19Speaker 2: that might be like a hinged door in down into
- 36:23Speaker 2: the warehouse.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I would love to make my way onto that roof.
- 36:27Speaker 2: How do you get over there?
- 36:29Speaker 1: How far? Am I?
- 36:30Speaker 3: Is?
- 36:30Speaker 2: Like?
- 36:31Speaker 1: Am I?
- 36:31Speaker 2: You're probably two l's across the street?
- 36:35Speaker 1: Two l's across the street. How's the weather tonight?
- 36:39Speaker 2: Fine, it's a nice night.
- 36:41Speaker 1: All right, Well, we're just gonna go for it. Anyways.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I let the electricity in my body concentrate and come
- 36:48Speaker 1: out in a whip from my hand, and I'm gonna
- 36:54Speaker 1: whip it across the street and swing across. And I
- 36:57Speaker 1: would love for that to be so fast as if
- 37:00Speaker 1: like a lightning strike hit this building randomly. Yes, I
- 37:11Speaker 1: don't make the way to that door.
- 37:12Speaker 2: It has a padlock on it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I just hold it in my hand.
- 37:16Speaker 2: And great, make a make a street smarts check, zap
- 37:21Speaker 2: the lock and use.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Control electricity with that eleven?
- 37:25Speaker 2: Oh you beat me by five again?
- 37:29Speaker 1: To me?
- 37:30Speaker 2: Or breaks?
- 37:31Speaker 1: Great? I want to quietly open the door.
- 37:35Speaker 2: You quietly open the door and take a peek. You
- 37:38Speaker 2: see a few things. There is a cat walk here
- 37:42Speaker 2: in this building directly below you maybe off well maybe
- 37:47Speaker 2: not directly below you, but on the catwalk a little
- 37:52Speaker 2: bit down, few ten feet maybe one l you see
- 38:00Speaker 2: a day man frozen. It's Dirk shit blade in the air,
- 38:10Speaker 2: absolutely frozen.
- 38:13Speaker 1: He's on the catwalk. I will quietly land on it,
- 38:18Speaker 1: jump down on him and approach him.
- 38:23Speaker 2: You approach him, you start to sense the electricity running
- 38:27Speaker 2: through him, and it's not there. It's dormant. He's not.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Oh oh, okay, I wanna check out the stuff on
- 38:46Speaker 1: his back. Uh, see where blood goes in his body?
- 38:51Speaker 2: You find the port that blood goes into. Here's what
- 38:57Speaker 2: else you see in here? Yeah, hundreds of people at desks,
- 39:02Speaker 2: at tables, chained working, sewing, drawing, designing.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Okay, don't love that. I don't think I have to
- 39:14Speaker 1: read their mental state to know that that's not good. Okay.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna I don't know how much he needs.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I'm just gonna prick my hand in smear a teeny
- 39:25Speaker 1: tiny little bit of blood. Were blood, cousin in the port?
- 39:29Speaker 2: You do not have human blood. I don't have human blood.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I forgot him a robot. Correct, awesome, all.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Right, your heart's in the right place, though.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Thank you. I'll give him a little little pat on
- 39:41Speaker 1: the head, say let me back for you again, buddy.
- 40:03Speaker 2: On this night, Jamir, your toes dangle off the edge
- 40:11Speaker 2: of the highest building you could get to. Okay, okay,
- 40:16Speaker 2: all right, it's been a week since the murder. The
- 40:23Speaker 2: pain is still so fresh, so raw. Your soul has
- 40:30Speaker 2: been opened to the darkness of greed in the world
- 40:34Speaker 2: and it burns. Will jump back in time a little bit.
- 40:43Speaker 2: What does Jamir look like going through the paper and
- 40:47Speaker 2: dust in his grandma's study?
- 40:50Speaker 4: So Jamir begins to methodically go through row by row,
- 40:59Speaker 4: bookshelves by book shelf. You see a wiry, dark skinned
- 41:05Speaker 4: young guy, maybe nineteen, maybe twenty, a little bit older,
- 41:10Speaker 4: he's twenty one, you see, maybe you can't tell, with
- 41:21Speaker 4: short dark brown hair, deep brown eyes, and thick eyebrows.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Sweat on those brows as he is combing through this
- 41:32Speaker 4: study looking for any clue as to what's going on,
- 41:37Speaker 4: what his grandma had been up to, and why she
- 41:40Speaker 4: was bringing him into this.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Yeah, make an investigation check in this degage. This is
- 41:49Speaker 2: difficult five five eye rolled a five, which is a
- 41:55Speaker 2: very close fail. But you get a few things here.
- 41:58Speaker 2: This is like your first time through all this stuff.
- 42:01Speaker 2: It takes time. I think today, as you're weeding through
- 42:04Speaker 2: some of the stuff from your grandma, you find texts
- 42:08Speaker 2: about string theory. Ok, I'll put these over here. You
- 42:12Speaker 2: find texts about both astronomy and astrology. I keep those together.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Naturally these are the same.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Then you find a bunch of religious texts, and as
- 42:27Speaker 2: you kind of parse through them, they seem to have
- 42:31Speaker 2: the running theme of angelic study, the study of angels.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Does that have a fancy word? Ben angelology? Angelology so fancy?
- 42:45Speaker 2: That's so fancy. It sounds like like a doughnut shop,
- 42:51Speaker 2: and it does.
- 42:52Speaker 4: It does sound like a bakery. It sounds like a
- 42:54Speaker 4: bakery with like locale options.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Skinny angelology.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I like my angel skin angelology. You do, you bitch.
- 43:10Speaker 2: You also find a text that would study pantheism and panantheism.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Okay, theology section. Man, grandma really didn't have any organization.
- 43:22Speaker 2: The last thing you find, you remember when you found
- 43:24Speaker 2: on the pot, there was that sticky note that said
- 43:27Speaker 2: realm of magic. Question mark you find here another one
- 43:33Speaker 2: of these notes. Because you did a very close fail,
- 43:36Speaker 2: I'm just going to give you one. There are others around,
- 43:39Speaker 2: but you're not focusing on those yet, but you find
- 43:43Speaker 2: one that says other practitioners, and then Piper question mark.
- 43:51Speaker 4: I very carefully take this note and I put it
- 43:56Speaker 4: with on the desk the other pieces of my grandmother's
- 44:01Speaker 4: handwriting that I still have.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Yeah, this note is just kind of stuck to, like
- 44:06Speaker 2: inside one of the drawers.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Yeah, so I'll just kind of lay that next to
- 44:11Speaker 4: the letter on the desk.
- 44:15Speaker 2: So in this week you spend some time going through
- 44:18Speaker 2: all your grandma's stuff. What else is jimyr getting up to.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Jamie is working less. He and Joe kind of have
- 44:28Speaker 4: an understanding after getting roughed up. He just kind of
- 44:31Speaker 4: tells Joe like, I think I'm going to take less
- 44:33Speaker 4: work and tries as best as he can to keep
- 44:38Speaker 4: up appearances with his family as well as with Jackie,
- 44:44Speaker 4: but is spending as much time as he can sneaking away,
- 44:49Speaker 4: either to the manner to spend time in the study
- 44:54Speaker 4: and getting to know Maria, as well as spending time
- 45:00Speaker 4: in secluded places in the city trying to figure out
- 45:05Speaker 4: these powers.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Maria at one point stops you as you've come in
- 45:14Speaker 2: with some groceries, Uh, Jimi or.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I got everything off the list. It
- 45:22Speaker 4: should get us through the week. Well, thank you. You
- 45:26Speaker 4: know I can do that. No, I mean I'm out.
- 45:29Speaker 4: I mean that's my job. I'm dipping and popping around,
- 45:32Speaker 4: so I make you go out. It's my job to
- 45:35Speaker 4: keep the home, so to keep the house, so you
- 45:38Speaker 4: don't have to. I'm happy to do it if you
- 45:40Speaker 4: ever can't.
- 45:41Speaker 2: I mean, no, that's silly. I'm already out. I'm already out.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I like shopping, all right, All right, where are you
- 45:50Speaker 2: going to be here? Often live here.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Live here. I kind of look around. I feel strings
- 46:00Speaker 4: change in this very nice place. Definitely fish out of water.
- 46:07Speaker 4: I take a beat breathing the mahogany floors, look at
- 46:13Speaker 4: Maria and say, do you want to know the truth?
- 46:18Speaker 2: Sure?
- 46:19Speaker 4: I have never had a good night's sleep outside of
- 46:21Speaker 4: the shoot. I feel safe in there, knowing that those
- 46:34Speaker 4: thick walls are wrapping us all in.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 46:42Speaker 4: It's noisy, it's hot, but it's home. This place is
- 46:52Speaker 4: a lot, and I'm gonna be here. You know, I
- 46:57Speaker 4: got the work in the stuff to do. But staying
- 47:04Speaker 4: here overnight it's a bit much right now.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Okay, Well, I'll do everything I can to make it at
- 47:16Speaker 2: home for you.
- 47:19Speaker 4: I mean no, you're doing above and beyond. You're doing
- 47:21Speaker 4: a great job, Maria, this is this is great. I'm
- 47:25Speaker 4: actually not doing above and beyond. I'm doing less than
- 47:28Speaker 4: my mother would have done for your Nan. Well yeah, yeah,
- 47:33Speaker 4: but uh, I don't need that much help. Nan probably did,
- 47:38Speaker 4: and I'm living in a communal living pot.
- 47:40Speaker 2: You don't need to worry about me. Make make a
- 47:44Speaker 2: vision check vision. I got a two on that vision check.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I rolled a one. Jimir. You look at Maria, and
- 47:55Speaker 2: when you say I don't need that much help, do
- 48:00Speaker 2: you see something in her eyes break a little? I
- 48:05Speaker 2: think on that success, even though it's a very small success.
- 48:07Speaker 2: You you see, this is what she's been made for.
- 48:14Speaker 2: It's strange. Oh.
- 48:17Speaker 4: I put my hand on her elbow and say, Maria, this,
- 48:26Speaker 4: this place is all I have left of my grandmother,
- 48:34Speaker 4: and whatever legacy she wanted to pass on is hidden
- 48:40Speaker 4: in that study. And the work that we're doing in
- 48:45Speaker 4: this house, I genuinely believe is going to help this city.
- 48:53Speaker 2: She nods, Sorry, I didn't mean to.
- 48:59Speaker 4: No, no space, No, I'm a I'm not being a
- 49:04Speaker 4: good friend to you.
- 49:06Speaker 2: I well, you're not meant to be my friend, sure.
- 49:11Speaker 4: But any other term to this dynamic makes me feel
- 49:16Speaker 4: even weirder. Okay, okay, okay, but seriously, I brought the food,
- 49:23Speaker 4: but I'm not gonna cook it, you know, So we're
- 49:28Speaker 4: a team here.
- 49:29Speaker 2: She nods and smiles, looked, looks as though there's been
- 49:34Speaker 2: a level of relief, and she grabs the bag of
- 49:36Speaker 2: food and I'll be I'll be getting to work then.
- 49:39Speaker 4: All right, let me know when the tea's ready. I'm
- 49:42Speaker 4: gonna go to the study for a little bit.
- 49:46Speaker 2: You also touch base with Jackie sometime in this week
- 49:49Speaker 2: at one of your normal spots. I'm sure she's rocked.
- 50:05Speaker 5: Yeah, as I am.
- 50:18Speaker 2: So he just got shot in Koso, that's what they said.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Did you did you tell him about that thing? I
- 50:52Speaker 2: hold her.
- 50:53Speaker 4: Gaze and nod ever so slightly.
- 51:02Speaker 2: And is that why.
- 51:06Speaker 4: I look around? I stretch. They took him from us,
- 51:18Speaker 4: Oh my god, and it's not fair.
- 51:32Speaker 2: She covers her mouth with her hand and just starts crying.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Here in the comic book shop.
- 51:40Speaker 4: I kind of quickly moved from my side of the
- 51:44Speaker 4: table to right next to Jackie and just put my
- 51:47Speaker 4: arm around her and.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Let her cry. The two of you together grieve the
- 51:56Speaker 2: lost of your friend, and we jump back to the present,
- 52:10Speaker 2: the dark night of New Babble your toes, feeling the
- 52:15Speaker 2: air coursing through this high up what has brought Jamir
- 52:22Speaker 2: to the edge of this building looking to jump? Jamir
- 52:29Speaker 2: can't get out of his head.
- 52:32Speaker 4: The feelings that were coursing through him when he met
- 52:39Speaker 4: the gin, and he knows that things were put in him.
- 52:48Speaker 4: Power was put in him, and he's trying to figure
- 52:51Speaker 4: out how to get it out.
- 52:55Speaker 2: Go ahead and roll a guts check plus your starflight.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Okay, Gods is a D six, and that is a
- 53:05Speaker 4: D four.
- 53:07Speaker 2: This is a This is going to be a challenging
- 53:09Speaker 2: checks Manerola D ten. Okay two plus three is five.
- 53:13Speaker 2: I rolled it two. Ooh, JIMMYR. Starfire melts the worry
- 53:20Speaker 2: in your heart and the shaking in your step. You
- 53:25Speaker 2: walk off the edge and begin to fall. Oh, but
- 53:32Speaker 2: then the light of the heavens fortifies your joints and
- 53:37Speaker 2: your will, and you decide that there is now no
- 53:43Speaker 2: barrier between you and where you might be allowed to go.
- 53:48Speaker 2: And a shoot kid breaks the night as a shooting
- 53:53Speaker 2: star of blue fire. What does it look like? Hell?
- 54:22Speaker 4: Yes, as Jamir is falling and feeling this piece. His
- 54:29Speaker 4: eyes open up, the wind whipping past him as the
- 54:33Speaker 4: ground is racing to meet him. He feels this energy
- 54:40Speaker 4: almost naturally as he breathes out, flowing from his chest
- 54:46Speaker 4: down into his hands, and his tinkling hands he places
- 54:53Speaker 4: in front of him and brings forth his very first flightstone.
- 55:01Speaker 4: It's a seven pointed blue disc that Jamir kind of
- 55:07Speaker 4: falls lands onto and begins flying on over the rooftops.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Awesome, Jason, You see, here's the information you have. There's
- 55:55Speaker 2: somebody making super people at this clothing door using magic
- 56:02Speaker 2: and electricity. As you're flying over the upper Market, you
- 56:10Speaker 2: see Ronnie, whose name you don't know. You see a
- 56:15Speaker 2: figure dressed all in black with sunglasses on, zapping with
- 56:24Speaker 2: electricity a lock, and then she jumps down into the
- 56:29Speaker 2: hole of this door she opened. What are you doing?
- 56:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna just shrouded in a giant paper cloak, glide
- 56:37Speaker 3: over there and try and like using the paper to
- 56:42Speaker 3: leverage myself around the entrance of the hatch, lower myself
- 56:46Speaker 3: in upside down like a bag, like a deeply disoriented
- 56:53Speaker 3: but trying to hide and be sneaky as sneaky as possible.
- 56:58Speaker 2: You see this figure in the black interacting with a
- 57:06Speaker 2: frozen day man on the catwalk. You also see all
- 57:12Speaker 2: the people chained to their desks and workspaces. Seems like
- 57:17Speaker 2: they're happy.
- 57:22Speaker 1: I'm I'm sorry, buddy, I'll figure this out. Are you
- 57:28Speaker 1: my buddy? I don't I don't know. I don't know
- 57:34Speaker 1: what you are to me.
- 57:37Speaker 2: I'll continue to observe from above. Are there any rafters,
- 57:41Speaker 2: lights anything above this area I can kind of perch
- 57:44Speaker 2: on or yeah, I think there's like the catwalk and
- 57:47Speaker 2: above that there's metal beams, very industrial metal beams everywhere.
- 57:52Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, I'm gonna hang out up here, trying to
- 57:55Speaker 3: make my fold my paper in such a way that
- 57:57Speaker 3: it's as blended with the ceilings as possible.
- 58:00Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on yet.
- 58:02Speaker 1: Do I as I like, move my awareness down to
- 58:06Speaker 1: look at the people going on? Do I sense this
- 58:09Speaker 1: paper clad lad behind me? Oh?
- 58:12Speaker 2: Good question? Yeah? Why don't you roll a sneak check, Jason,
- 58:16Speaker 2: and you roll a vision chap Ronnie doing flatter? Empowered here,
- 58:23Speaker 2: I'm empowering. If you empower, you get to empower. That's
- 58:28Speaker 2: the rules.
- 58:29Speaker 1: If you empower, you get to empower. Empowered paper clad
- 58:35Speaker 1: lad versus Ronnie, I got a nine.
- 58:44Speaker 2: A slithering paper phantom creeps up into the rafters behind
- 58:49Speaker 2: you without you knowing.
- 58:51Speaker 1: Are is there anyone in here guarding these folks?
- 58:55Speaker 2: Yes, there are guards.
- 58:57Speaker 1: How many do I see?
- 58:59Speaker 2: There are only four guards, kind of one in each
- 59:03Speaker 2: quadrant walking around. Also, at this moment, the door opens
- 59:08Speaker 2: and you see Gabrielle come in. He starts walking around
- 59:13Speaker 2: looking at people's work. He starts slapping people with a
- 59:18Speaker 2: little switch on their hands for mistakes. And then we
- 59:25Speaker 2: go up to the sky. Jamir, you are flying, panicking,
- 59:31Speaker 2: holding onto your disc for the first time. Jamiir has
- 59:35Speaker 2: not done anything with these powers as far as fighting
- 59:40Speaker 2: or fighting crime or saving people. No. You see below
- 59:45Speaker 2: you a woman clad in black guarb with sunglasses on,
- 59:51Speaker 2: zapping a door, and then you see crawling up behind
- 59:58Speaker 2: her a weird paper ghost following her down into the hall.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: Okay, I realize this woman might be up to no good,
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: but she still shouldn't get jumped. So Jumiir is kind
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: of awkwardly flying on this flight star again like hands
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: clutching it, kind of crouching on this blue star. I
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: lean forward as I bring it down toward the earth,
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: and I kind of stumble stumblefall off my flight star
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: and as I roll, I adjust my cape and I
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: begin to try to jog quietly after the paper ghost
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: to make sure that no harm comes to this woman
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: thief got it?
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: As you enter, let's do I want to do a
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: sneak check from you, and then the two of you
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: both make freaking.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Vision checks empowered.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Uh are you gonna be able to empower this? Ben? No,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: I have nothing to empower. Sneak. I'm just sneaking, so
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: he's not. You can steph. Is there a reason you can? Ethan?
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Does he have any paper on his body? Ben?
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: No, Nope. I got a two on this four four
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: for Jason.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Uh Ben or Jimmyry. You crashed through this doorway, this
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: hole in the ceiling. What do they see? What's your
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: initial kind of hidden look here?
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: Yeah, you guys see a young man wearing thick soled
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: black boots, but not really combat boots, more like malgoth
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: thick sold black boots, black sweatpants tucked into the boots,
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: a black dry fit, a black dry fit athletic wear
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: long sleeve shirt with a seven pointed blue star drawn
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: on the right breast. He is wearing a dusty blue
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: three quarter lengths cape. He has a blue do rag
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: with eyeholes cut into it, covering his eyes and nose,
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: and has a bandana, a blue bandana covering his mouth,
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: and he's kind of crouching as if in mid sneak.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Three of you, did the rest of the room notice
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: this happening?
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I got it too, You got it too. I think
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: that they look up a little, but it's your three
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: l's up. You're pretty far away, that's true.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Okay, great, but.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: A few people kind of like what's going on up there?
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: But it's very dark up there, and you are above
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: the main light, so it's very hard to love that.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: The two of you, what the hell acknowledge each other? Jimiir, Jamiir?
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: You don't see the weird ghost thing, but you do
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: see the person in black.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: I look down at my own black sweatpants, look at
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Jamir's black pants.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: And then there's a ghost following you.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Is it?
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Is it you?
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: What the fuck is going on?
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: No? No, I'm here to I'm here to help. What
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: are you? Are you robbing this place?
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: No?
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: I don't know where did that ghost go? What ghost?
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: What are you talking about.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: What does Jason do while they're talking? Uh, you said
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: we're three l's up, yes, above the floor, Okay, you're
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: all within.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: And I would while I'm like, just be like what
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: the jamir? I want to then like focus, focus, areunny
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: and scan him to see what he's feeling.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, do a synaptic scan. This is an average
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: check stuff.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Six.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: I wroted it one. You beat me by five, Jimmy,
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Or what are you feeling right now?
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: My My heart is racing. I'm nervous, but I just
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: fucking flu and I'm proud of that. And I feel
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: like I'm trying to save this woman if she needs it,
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: or stop her if she needs that. So I'm like,
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: I'm tensed, I'm kind of excited, but mostly just pounding heart,
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: adrenaline going through my body.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Like that does not tell me much if he's gonna
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: attack me or if he's just a crazy person.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Jason, what are you doing?
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: I want to I'm assuming that there's all these desks
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: that people are working on right Yeah, they're like there's
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: a pamper around by the chance that tons of paper
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: down Okay, cool, I just want to use my paper
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: manipulation to to float one one sheet off of one
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: desk up to the catwalk where they're at and fold
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: it into like a little guy. Just like a little guy.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: It's gonna stand on the rail and uh it'll move
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: its mouth and like flap and try and communicate without
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: revealing my position.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Okay, uh yeah, make us make a make a street
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: smart check to make the little paper man, and also
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: make another sneak check to see if you're hidding the
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: two of you guys, make another vision check. Okay, see
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: how much of this you clock? Okay to my paper guy,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: I got ten? Okay, yeah, of course, and then sneak right,
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: empowering that as well. Or no if I'm cloaking up. Yeah, eight,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: either of you beat an eight? Nope, you see the
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: little guy coming up? Who stands on the catwalk with y'all?
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Is that with you, tiny little paper guy?
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: No, that looks more like from the ghost I was
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: worried about would attack you.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I'm not a ghost.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: The little guy talks the papers. Do we hear this
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: voice coming from the paper? It's the paper vocal I
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: can make.
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess if the papers taget, I guess you
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: hear a voice from the rafters.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: That's coming down.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: You look up and I'm gonna scan again.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: Yeah, go for it, or den.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Is what he's going on here?
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: Don't look up there. Look I'm down here on this
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: little guy.
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: Hold on, Bere's gonna kind of crouch down, touch the
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: floor beneath his feet, close his eyes, take a breath,
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: and push out another flight star and then very slowly
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: just start elevatoring straight up.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: On my start. Wait where are you going? This is
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: I'm still going. I'm going there. I'm not trying to
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: go fast. I'm just trying to keep my balance. You
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: have to go up.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I am trying not to be seen right now. And
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: you if you make me and my but my day
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: person here, I'm.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Gonna get the ghost. Hang on, hang on, you float up.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I flick the little paperman with my fingers.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: A favor man falls down to the ground. I think
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: at this point, after hearing you and a more light
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: from Jamir's star, you see a crouching figure in the rafters.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: What the hell man?
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: I float within like ten feet of him and stop
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: and I stand on my star and can I say,
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: are you trying to hurt this woman?
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Hurt? Oh? I just need information.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: Also, boo, No, I'm getting the vibe.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Maybe maybe we should talk down there with her, all right? Then?
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Okay, and then Junior kind of awkwardly like crouches back
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: down off his star and then like lowers it again
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: at a pretty slow rate.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Yeah, Jason's cape wraps around the rafters and just lowers
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: his body all the way to the cape rat reaches
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: all the way from the ceiling to the rafts.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: It's so long, very cool.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: You got magic, you got magic. I was told you'd
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: be here by who. I forgot his name. I'll be
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: completely honest. Are you I almost cut his dick? What what? Nobody?
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: Nobody knows? I have powers? Okay, So I don't know
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: what guy you're talking about, but you're mistaken, sir.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Are you Who are you looking for?
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: I just need information.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: I was told they would be magic here, Magic and electricity.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Magic.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: Seems like you fit the bill, don't.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: I don't think there's any magic well, as far as
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: I know, I just point well that, yeah, that that's
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: that's wild.
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: I mean, I don't I don't mess with electricity. So,
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: and then I look back at this day person, I
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: saw you zapping a lock. Are you are you robbing
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: this place?
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Are you? Are you with the church?
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: I don't go to fucking shirt.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: And when I asked that, I want to see like
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: what their brains do, Like does that fire off anything?
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Gleen, roll of vision check eleven. I can't beat
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: that with an average check. How do you how do
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: your minds react to church? And are you part of
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: the church? Okay, when you say the church is this,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: I'm sorry. We haven't done any religion. And New Babbel
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: what what church is there?
- 1:11:20Speaker 7: So there's the christ bunch so you might yeah, you
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: may not know. I'm just saying that from a day person.
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: Would I have a yeah, rough guess of what they're
- 1:11:29Speaker 7: talking about. Yeah, there's two day churches. There's the day
- 1:11:32Speaker 7: Church of Prophecy, which believe that their visions are prophecies
- 1:11:38Speaker 7: and they commit their lives to studying their visions and
- 1:11:42Speaker 7: then figuring out what the prophecies mean. And then there's
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: the Church of New Babbel Day, which they believe that
- 1:11:52Speaker 7: the day our God come to earth. There's also the
- 1:11:56Speaker 7: Catholic Church, which is not necessarily tied today, but there
- 1:11:59Speaker 7: probably are some day Christians.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Jamir would assume she's referring to these day religious
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: sects and has no not really ill feelings toored them.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: But it's pretty ambivalent. It's like, that's just some weird
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: day stuff. Okay, I'll look at her.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Only church I know is the library. Nice you both
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: you feel on your success. You feel like both of
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: them are not from the church.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I'm I'm just here to try to also
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: get some information. Maybe you'd take down a really bad guy.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Is it who ever chained up these? Yes?
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: People that one I point to gabriel.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: There's people chained up. It looks over the jamry you
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: see these people chained up. And at this moment something
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: starts changing in the room. Gabrielle starts to unlock the
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: chains that are attached to desks and uh anchors in
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: the floor, and he just yells, everybody in the middle, now,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: everybody in the middle, we have some visitors today. He
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: goes to his front door and you see coming in
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: a lots of people. Ronnie and Jason, you guys recognize
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: some folks. You recognize every member of the church council
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: is here. Ethan, you recognize the woman from who's a
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: coppo in the Irish gang and then there's just a
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: host of other people here that are entering in.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Okay, this is about this spot.
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: We should probably kill those guys.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: What killing, Jill?
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I mean, I knows the easiest thing to do, right right?
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: Am I the only one? Am I crazy? One of
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: the guys entering in a in a vest and just
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: bursting out of this vest, rolled up sleeves and a
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: flat brim cap, yells at Gabrielle. Gabriel where is he?
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Tonight's the night?
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Gabrielle says, yes, just be patient, my friend, they'll be here.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: As he says this, bursting through the south wall, you
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: see a beast who has the body of a rhino.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: What and where the rhino's head should be, there is
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: instead the torso of a man, followed by a man's
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: head center. The man is disproportionately large and muscular, but
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: a man it is, and out of the man's head
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: sprouts a rhino horn that pull with sonic red energy.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: In his hand, he holds a mace of thick rebar
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: and concrete. Flapping down and landing on his back is
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: a scrawny man in a gymnast leotard. Out of his
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: back sprout gray wings that flutter in his descent. He
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: glares at the men across the way. He looks at
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: the people still bound but unchained from their workstations. The
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: flying man in the gymnast leotard says, this is it. It's
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: not challenging. Gabrielle shouts back, how about them. We want
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: to see what you can do, But you didn't have
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: to break down my wall.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: I hearing that, I want to scan and because I
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: think maybe the attent of these animal people is to
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: hurt the folks that were just chained.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: I think I'm picking up on that too, so.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I want to confirm that and then get on in there.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think you have to roll for that.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: I just look at both of you as like, can
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: we kill them?
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I just just jump in fall, just jump fall as
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: far as I can. Then electricity shoots out of my
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: hand to whip around the catwalk at the top to
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: slow my fall, and I'm going to land in between
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: the group of people and.
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: The animal.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Folks, the rhino taur and the gymnast bird.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: When she jumps, Jamir will follow.
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: The first thinking do I need to catch this person?
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: But yeah, I'll follow after what she jumps nice. I'll
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: summon forth some a flight star. Also get me to
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: the ground and try to look somewhat strong as I
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: stand in my dry fit.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna stay up on the catwalk. We're just gonna
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: pull out some paper swords from a pier.
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: Two paper swords from your cape. You the three of
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: you jumped into action, except for the paper phantom to
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: be a sneaky book. Jamir and Quanta. You look at
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: this big rhino man and the birdman on his back,
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: the mumbling behind you, of the group of people that
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: are here spectating this. They start saying, who the fuck,
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: gravriel are these parts? Are these people part of it?
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: Gabrielle is shaking his head, looking worried. No, who the
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: fuck are you?
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: I want to wink at him and say, I'm God, bitch, Gabrielle.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: His eyes get wider. You see a few other eyes
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: get wider of the people you've seen before, and they say, no,
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: I thought I thought you were She's back. At this point,
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: the rhino man says something for the first time, when
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: shall we three meet again in thunder lightning or in
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: rain on? The man with the wings on his back
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: just says sorry, when the doc messed with his head.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Now all he can say is Shakespeare things. But I
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: think i'm his translator. I think what he means to
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: say is it's good to meet you or something. I
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: don't know. I'm still working it out. Oh buddy, it's
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: time to leave. Take your rhino acid and get out
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: of here. The man with the wings looks down at
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: the rhino man, who says nothing, but does start like, uh,
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: what is it called? Like pawing, pawing at the ground,
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: stamping and pawing at the ground, looking as though he's
