Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: It's the Craig Way Show with a voice of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame Broadcasting Craig Wack rolling
- 0:23Speaker 1: on here on a Thursday afternoon. A reminder coming up
- 0:27Speaker 1: at six o'clock a basketball preview edition of Longhorn Weekly
- 0:32Speaker 1: with Rodney Terry. That's coming up at six o'clock live
- 0:34Speaker 1: here on the Zone from Pluckers the West Campus location, Austin.
- 0:38Speaker 1: All Right, I'm gonna go back to the NBA. We
- 0:40Speaker 1: had Bill Schoning on earlier talking about tonight's season opener
- 0:44Speaker 1: for the Spurs in Dallas taking on the Mavericks, and
- 0:47Speaker 1: we did address some of the games last night a
- 0:51Speaker 1: little bit, but but we have not addressed the fact
- 0:56Speaker 1: that your team, the Oklahoma City Thunder is playing Nuggets.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Quite the opener there between OKAC and Denver tonight up
- 1:05Speaker 1: in the Mile Hight City.
- 1:06Speaker 2: And how things have changed, Craig, I mean two years
- 1:09Speaker 2: ago in this matchup, you're like, man, can hope we
- 1:13Speaker 2: can okay see can keep within fifteen? And then last
- 1:16Speaker 2: season now this year, I know Denver's favorite one and
- 1:18Speaker 2: a half. I think okay See wins this basketball game.
- 1:21Speaker 2: But super excited for this season that's been a lot
- 1:24Speaker 2: of fun watching the NBA this year. And you know,
- 1:26Speaker 2: I have not been this excited for my team since
- 1:29Speaker 2: probably twenty sixteen season, maybe maybe twenty twenty when we
- 1:35Speaker 2: had Chris Paul and Dennis Shrewder and Shay was a
- 1:39Speaker 2: young buck, but excited to start. And of course you're
- 1:42Speaker 2: Dallas Mavericks. We're opening the season this well, they'll be
- 1:45Speaker 2: the first game on TNT. And then what T and
- 1:49Speaker 2: T must have like, ESPN must be pissed because TNT's
- 1:52Speaker 2: double headers this week had been so much better than
- 1:55Speaker 2: what ESPN had last night.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was. It was rather unimpressed of last night.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Here's here's the other thing that strikes me about tonight's schedule.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And again we visited with Bill about this, about the
- 2:07Speaker 1: Spurs and the Mavericks, and we talked about last night's games.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But but with regard to tonight's game, the leak's wasting
- 2:14Speaker 1: no time and jumping in with some back to backs yea.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And and you know we we'd heard all the stuff
- 2:19Speaker 1: about him beat how he wasn't going to play in
- 2:22Speaker 1: the first three games, so he's not going to be
- 2:25Speaker 1: in action tonight at Toronto when they played. When the
- 2:28Speaker 1: Sixers play the Raptors, UH, the defending champion Celtics, who
- 2:31Speaker 1: looked the part of the defending champions when they smacked around.
- 2:36Speaker 1: The Knicks play at Washington tonight. Minnesota is playing at Sacramento. Now,
- 2:42Speaker 1: those were the games Boston played on Tuesday. Minnesota played
- 2:45Speaker 1: on Tuesday, so there's a little more. But they do
- 2:48Speaker 1: have to travel, so Boston and Washington tonight. I hadn't
- 2:51Speaker 1: asked you much about the Wizards even.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Need to bring that up to you. About the Kings though,
- 3:02Speaker 2: fun team. I mean they're you know, the roster they've built,
- 3:05Speaker 2: there's the playing team I like. I liked Domas Sabonis.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You know, he started off with ok C, so you know,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I have a place in my heart for him. I
- 3:14Speaker 2: like dearon Fox. You know. I always think back to
- 3:16Speaker 2: what he did the loonzo ball in the in the
- 3:18Speaker 2: NCAA Tournament against USLA when he was with Kentucky. But
- 3:22Speaker 2: this is a basketball team that is just peak peak
- 3:26Speaker 2: playing team right there with the with trying to think
- 3:30Speaker 2: of who is the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference
- 3:32Speaker 2: where now they'll win more games than the Hawks, But
- 3:34Speaker 2: it's a King's roster that I think has a ceiling.
- 3:38Speaker 2: But they're a fun team, you know. You know they
- 3:40Speaker 2: added to Marta Rozen this year. I don't think that's
- 3:42Speaker 2: going to move in the needle too much for me,
- 3:43Speaker 2: but hey like the beam.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. So so anyway, those are those are ones
- 3:49Speaker 1: that are going in tonight and then they jump back
- 3:52Speaker 1: into it pretty quickly, like on Friday Night. Four teams
- 3:55Speaker 1: that all saw action last night, well several that saw
- 3:59Speaker 1: action last like Detroit to Cleveland, Charlotte at Atlanta. I
- 4:04Speaker 1: mentioned Philadelphia, Toronto, and Brooklyn at Orlando Orlando. I thought
- 4:08Speaker 1: looked pretty good and there went over the heat. But
- 4:12Speaker 1: I think we expect that if Pabo Bankaro is playing,
- 4:15Speaker 1: because he looks like a special player.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah, thirty three and eleven last night, magic again. You know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: I kind of they're on that same Okac trajectory where
- 4:24Speaker 2: you know, a couple of years ago they went from
- 4:26Speaker 2: twenty wins to like thirty and then last year I
- 4:28Speaker 2: think forty seven. Can they get the fifty? So we
- 4:31Speaker 2: saw what okay Seed did this past year. Benk Carol,
- 4:34Speaker 2: you know, he's he's he's on a he's gonna be
- 4:37Speaker 2: a fantastic player and then for Brooklyn, a team that
- 4:41Speaker 2: obviously is tanking four first round draft picks. Perhaps we
- 4:44Speaker 2: talked about it yesterday. It's the Cam Thomas Show, thirty
- 4:47Speaker 2: six points the other night. He's gonna take about forty
- 4:49Speaker 2: shots perg ging at this rate. So I feel bad
- 4:53Speaker 2: for Eddie Orn and Nets fans.
- 4:54Speaker 1: They have to give him more work to do the
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know, but and yet for all of that, Now,
- 4:59Speaker 1: again I let you weigh it in its proper metric.
- 5:04Speaker 1: But they played Atlanta really tough. He ended up losing
- 5:07Speaker 1: what one ten, one oh six last night. And I
- 5:09Speaker 1: watched some of that game because I have the league
- 5:12Speaker 1: pass package, so I did watch some of that game
- 5:14Speaker 1: between or between Brooklyn and Atlanta, and the Hawks did win.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And now I get Charlotte and and that's going to
- 5:24Speaker 1: be on Friday, but tomorrow. But Charlotte had some moments
- 5:28Speaker 1: last night.
- 5:29Speaker 2: They did LaMelo Ball, who might be one of the
- 5:32Speaker 2: best stat patters in the league this rate thirty four
- 5:35Speaker 2: to eight and eleven. But you know, they'd beat a
- 5:37Speaker 2: young Rockets team.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Speaking of Rockets, way, now, I thought you were excited
- 5:40Speaker 1: about the Rockets.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they had a couple of pieces, so
- 5:43Speaker 2: it's going to take some time for them to kind
- 5:44Speaker 2: of get all that chemistry worked out. But you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: just opening night and I bought Charlotte's going to be
- 5:52Speaker 2: a tanking team. But then of this season and they'll
- 5:55Speaker 2: be lucky to get twenty five thirty wins.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I think, Okay, great. Are you prepared to say the
- 6:00Speaker 1: same thing about Detroit again?
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think so.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But I'll tell you one thing about Detroit, Kay Cunningham,
- 6:05Speaker 1: he looked good. Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 2: No, I like I said yesterday, I like the players
- 6:10Speaker 2: on their roster, Jay and Ivy finally getting some minutes
- 6:12Speaker 2: in this game. Jalen Durn, I'm a big Durn fan.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And then Ron Holland, the former Texas commit. You know,
- 6:18Speaker 2: he came in yesterday six points in his rooky debut
- 6:21Speaker 2: O three. You know, he will be curious to see
- 6:23Speaker 2: how it works out for him because obviously in high school,
- 6:26Speaker 2: you know, he was a number one option and then
- 6:29Speaker 2: you go play in the G League where the entire
- 6:32Speaker 2: team is just built around you. And now you get
- 6:34Speaker 2: to Detroit where you're the you know, you're coming off
- 6:37Speaker 2: the bench, you're kind of the sixth man. So we'll
- 6:40Speaker 2: see what the adjustment is like for Ron Holland, but
- 6:42Speaker 2: he's he obviously has a high ceiling, so we're fun
- 6:45Speaker 2: to watch out he plays out this season. But the
- 6:47Speaker 2: Pistons have a fun roster and that looked like they
- 6:50Speaker 2: were headed in the right direction after getting rid of
- 6:52Speaker 2: many Williams and a lot of their Troy Reaver as well.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Let me ask you, so I hadn't hadn't asked you
- 6:57Speaker 1: this yet, how are you managing this brave new world
- 7:03Speaker 1: of how you consume your professional sports? Like, for example,
- 7:08Speaker 1: tonight obviously is Rams Vikings, and anybody's wanting to watch
- 7:11Speaker 1: Rams Vikings, you better be watching an Amazon or you
- 7:15Speaker 1: better have an Amazon subscription or watching it at somebody's
- 7:18Speaker 1: place who has that, or in a sports bar where
- 7:19Speaker 1: they have it on that sort of thing. If you're
- 7:22Speaker 1: watching high school footall I you can watch Vista Ridge
- 7:24Speaker 1: and manor playing on KBVO which gonna happen in the week. Yeah,
- 7:28Speaker 1: there's that. But to the to the other pro sports,
- 7:31Speaker 1: pro basketball, pro hockey as well, and you're a big
- 7:35Speaker 1: Stars fan and they've gone that victory app route nice
- 7:38Speaker 1: and so has that been an easy ease in for
- 7:42Speaker 1: you on that? Yeah?
- 7:43Speaker 2: For the Stars, Yeah, for sure, NBA. You know my
- 7:45Speaker 2: team's okay. See, so I haven't purchased league past yet
- 7:49Speaker 2: this season. I'm still thinking about it. You know, if
- 7:50Speaker 2: anyone wants to share and split the price with me,
- 7:53Speaker 2: please hurt me up.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I would love to but these and watch. We'll pick
- 7:57Speaker 1: a night when the thunder are playing or whatever, and
- 7:59Speaker 1: you can do it. Jason hearing the roof off for
- 8:03Speaker 1: okay see.
- 8:04Speaker 2: But you know, of course, I'm like many other people
- 8:06Speaker 2: have the million subscriptions Peacock, Amazon Prime, Yes, Ben Plus
- 8:12Speaker 2: and uh we are we are a red zone household.
- 8:15Speaker 2: We are not something ticket. We are a red zone. Yeah, household.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Shout out Scott Hansen.
- 8:20Speaker 1: So he's become a bit of a celebrity, hadn't he
- 8:23Speaker 1: he yes, yes, yes he has.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I felt like the star in many cast. You know,
- 8:27Speaker 2: usually Peyton or Eli is the star, depending on the guests,
- 8:30Speaker 2: you know, it might be different, but it felt like
- 8:32Speaker 2: we were watching the Hanson cast with Peyton and Eli
- 8:35Speaker 2: as the guest.
- 8:36Speaker 1: He just jumped right in and did that update it
- 8:38Speaker 1: was just golden and did update on the other game,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and when it came back to him later, he really
- 8:43Speaker 1: didn't have anything. Yeah, it's seven to six. Nothing, nothing
- 8:47Speaker 1: much else has happened. It was a fumble and yeah
- 8:51Speaker 1: it was good to good to it. Now I've seen
- 8:53Speaker 1: him in commercials like for Home Depot and a couple
- 8:56Speaker 1: other things or something.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, with Dak Prescott.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so his star is on the rise. Not the
- 9:02Speaker 1: cowboy star, but his star is a bit on the rise.
- 9:05Speaker 2: All right, when we too, like now like announcers are
- 9:09Speaker 2: kind of getting popular, Craig again, Yeah, waiting for your
- 9:12Speaker 2: nil deal with you know, some law firm and something.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I wouldn't wait too long other than the ones that
- 9:20Speaker 1: we're getting these days here on this station. So we'll
- 9:23Speaker 1: continue with that. We'll be back to wrap up today's
- 9:25Speaker 1: edition of the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen
- 9:28Speaker 1: under the Zone and on the iHeartRadio app.
