- 0:29field which the Lord God had made.
- 0:31And he said unto the woman, Yeah, he had.
- 0:33God said Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden.
- 0:37In that passage of Scripture we find the very beginning of sin
- 0:42and human depravity as we know it today because the Bible
- 0:45teaches us that God placed man and woman in the garden and in
- 0:50the garden they lived in a perpetual paradise.
- 0:52Everything was perfect. They didn't have any problems,
- 0:55they didn't even have to work for a living in those days.
- 0:58Everything was perfect, the economic conditions, there was
- 1:00perfect tranquility and peace in that garden.
- 1:03God didn't make man just a little button that he could push
- 1:06and a little piece of machinery that would obey him.
- 1:08God made man a free moral agent, the ability to choose between
- 1:12right and wrong. God said you can enjoy all the
- 1:14fruits of the garden except one tree, and if you eat of that
- 1:17particular tree, you'll die. One day the devil came along in
- 1:21the form of a serpent and said to Adam and Eve, why you're not
- 1:25going to die. Why, if you eat of that fruit,
- 1:27you're going to become as other gods, and you're going to have
- 1:30happiness and joy such as you've never known, and you'll become
- 1:33the richest people in all the universe if you'll eat of that
- 1:36tree. They believe the devil's lie
- 1:39rather than God's truth. And so they ate the fruit.
- 1:42And what happened? Instead of becoming as other
- 1:45gods, instead of having their eyes open and becoming wealthy
- 1:48and even wiser, the Scripture says that they became naked in
- 1:53their own sights. And they realized that they
- 1:55disobeyed God and sinned against Almighty God.
- 1:59And the Bible teaches that they went out and sowed fig leaves on
- 2:02themselves to hide themselves from their own nakedness and to
- 2:05hide themselves from God. But God came along in the cool
- 2:07of the day, and God saw through the fig leaves, and God saw
- 2:12their sin and the nakedness of their soul.
- 2:15And God went out into the fields and slew the beast of the field
- 2:19and took these skins and wrapped them in these skins to hide
- 2:22their nakedness, one from the other and from God.
- 2:25And that was the first time that blood was shed in order to save
- 2:28man and was a type of the death of Jesus Christ that was to come
- 2:314000 years later. We've been told for centuries
- 2:35that the Garden of Eden was a paradise, that the Creator was a
- 2:39benevolent father, and that the serpent was the architect of our
- 2:43ruin. We were told that our thirst for
- 2:47knowledge was our original sin. But what if the God walking
- 2:52through that garden wasn't the Supreme Being, but a jealous
- 2:56jailer? What if he forbade the Tree of
- 3:00Knowledge not to protect us, but to keep us in the dark, to
- 3:05ensure his creations never realized they were actually
- 3:08superior to him? We are taught from birth that
- 3:13the world is a gift, that the sunrise, the mountains, and the
- 3:17breath in our lungs are proofs of a benevolent design.
- 3:23But for a group of thinkers in the ancient world, there was a
- 3:26different, darker intuition. They looked at the suffering,
- 3:31the decay, and the inherent cruelty of nature and reached a
- 3:35radical conclusion. This world is not a gift, it is
- 3:40a cage. They believed that the creator
- 3:43of our physical reality was not the ultimate God, but a blind
- 3:47lesser entity, an architect who built a beautiful prison to keep
- 3:52our souls from remembering where we truly came from.
- 3:55To them, we are sparks of light trapped in a basement of matter.
- 4:00This is the core of the Gnostic vision.
- 4:03It isn't a religion of belief or faith in the traditional sense.
- 4:08It is a path of awakening. It starts with a single
- 4:12dangerous realization. Something is wrong with the
- 4:16world and the only way out is to remember the truth they tried to
- 4:20make us forget. This divine suspicion is the
- 4:24heartbeat of Gnosticism. These Gnostics believed we are
- 4:28cosmic orphans. They believed our reality is a
- 4:31beautiful, terrifying mask and that the power ruling it is a
- 4:35blind pretender. Salvation, therefore, comes
- 4:40through awakening. It comes through remembering a
- 4:43home we've never seen but have always felt.
- 4:47To the architects of what would later become the mainstream
- 4:50church, these ideas were absolutely horrific.
- 4:55This was the ultimate theological high treason.
- 4:59It turned the good news of the Gospels into a cosmic Horror
- 5:03Story. It suggested that the bishops
- 5:06and the priests were inadvertently worshipping a
- 5:09jailer. The battle for the soul of the
- 5:12West became a war over the nature of reality itself.
- 5:16One side wanted to build a Kingdom on earth, the other
- 5:19wanted to escape the earth entirely.
- 5:22This was a conflict that could only end one way, with one side
- 5:27being declared truth and the other being scrubbed from the
- 5:31face of the earth as the ultimate heresy.
- 6:40Before there was a devil, there was the Red Land, the deshrit to
- 6:46the ancient Egyptians. The world was split in two, the
- 6:49fertile black soil of the Nile and the scorching, chaotic red
- 6:53sands of the desert. The master of that chaos was
- 6:56Set. In the pantheon of ancient
- 6:59Egyptian gods, Set was the God of storms, Chaos, and the Red
- 7:05Desert. He was the foreigner, the
- 7:08necessary force of disruption. But as the Egyptian New Kingdom
- 7:13collided with the Levant, something strange happened in
- 7:16the minds of the ancients. They began to see a pattern.
- 7:20He wasn't originally evil in our modern sense.
- 7:23He was necessary. He was the storm that broke the
- 7:26drought, the God of foreigners, and the protector of the sun God
- 7:30RA on his nightly journey through the underworld.
- 7:34But Set was also the God of disruption, the brother who
- 7:38murdered Osiris, the one who could not be contained by the
- 7:42Mahat, the cosmic balance. The most unsettling thing about
- 7:48Set is his face. While other gods had the heads
- 7:51of recognizable animals, Falcons, jackals, ibises, Set's
- 7:56head is a Cryptid known as the Shah, or the Set animal.
- 8:00It features a curved downward snout, square topped upright
- 8:05ears, and a stiff forked tail. Egyptologists have debated for a
- 8:10century what this creature is a saluki?
- 8:13A giraffe? An okapi.
- 8:16The truth is likely more deliberate.
- 8:19Set is the God of the Other. His head is an impossible beast,
- 8:24representing a power that does not fit into the natural order.
- 8:28He is the glitch in the biological world.
- 8:30As Egypt expanded its empire into the Levant, modern day
- 8:35Syria, Lebanon and Israel, their priests encountered the gods of
- 8:39the Canaanites and Hittites. They didn't see new gods, they
- 8:44saw masks. The Canaanites worshipped by Al
- 8:48Haddad, the Thunder God who lived on a mountain and rode the
- 8:51clouds. He was violent, virile and prone
- 8:54to fits of rage. To the Egyptians, this was
- 8:58clearly set. During the Ramos side period,
- 9:01the two were effectively fused. Setball became the God of the
- 9:05mighty arm, the one who rules through raw, terrifying power
- 9:10and atmospheric violence. This is where the Gnostic heresy
- 9:13begins to take its shape. As the cult of Yahweh emerged in
- 9:17the same region, observers in the Hellenistic world and later
- 9:21the Gnostics began to notice uncomfortable parallels.
- 9:26They saw a God who dwelt in the desert, spoke through storms,
- 9:30Thunder and fire, the jealous, volatile ruler of the red land
- 9:35of matter. God said, Adam and Eve, you've
- 9:53sinned against me, you've disobeyed me, all right.
- 9:55You have to take the consequences.
- 9:57I told you that in the day you eat, you're going to die.
- 10:00My word is truth. And here's what happened as a
- 10:03result of man's disobedience and man's sin.
- 10:06First of all, God cursed the serpent.
- 10:09That's the reason the serpent, who was the most beautiful of
- 10:11all the beasts of the field, now crawls on its belly.
- 10:13It's the enemy of mankind because of the Garden of Eden.
- 10:17God cursed the servant. Then the second thing that
- 10:19happened, women have sorrow and suffering in childbirth.
- 10:24All the suffering that all the women have endured in childbirth
- 10:28down through the ages, or result of woman's sin in the Garden of
- 10:32Eden and the curse and judgment of God because of that sin.
- 10:36And then the Bible says that the earth was cursed, all the thorns
- 10:39and thistles. And because man has to work and
- 10:42labor by the sweat of his brow, for his living and for all that
- 10:44he has, comes as a direct result of sin.
- 10:51Before there was an orthodoxy, there was an explosion of ideas.
- 10:56In the first two centuries after Jesus, there was no New
- 10:59Testament, no Central Vatican, and no single way to be a
- 11:02Christian. Instead, there were hundreds of
- 11:06small private circles. Some saw Jesus as a Jewish
- 11:10Messiah. Others saw him as a cosmic
- 11:13phantom who never actually touched the ground.
- 11:16In the great Library of Alexandria, Egyptian mysticism,
- 11:20Greek philosophy and Jewish scripture were being thrown into
- 11:23a spiritual centrifuge. It's important to understand no
- 11:28one in the ancient world called themselves a Gnostic.
- 11:32That is a modern label we've pinned on them.
- 11:34At the time. They were simply followers of
- 11:37the secret way. They called themselves the Seed
- 11:41of Seth, or the Elect. They didn't think they were
- 11:46starting a new religion. They thought they were the only
- 11:49ones who truly understood the deep meaning of the old ones.
- 11:53The first man to truly tear the mask off the storm God was
- 11:57Marcion of Sinope. Around 140 AD, Marcion arrived
- 12:03in Rome with a radical proposition.
- 12:06The God of the Old Testament and the Father of Jesus were two
- 12:09different beings. He argued that Yahweh was a God
- 12:13of law, justice and wrath, the God of the Jews, while the true
- 12:18God was a God of love and mercy. Marcion was the first to create
- 12:24a Canon, a list of accepted books, and in doing so, he
- 12:29forced the rest of the world to decide what they believed.
- 12:33He was the spark that started the fire.
- 12:36While Marcion was practical, others were deeply mystical.
- 12:41The Valentinians, led by Valentinus, the most brilliant
- 12:45philosopher of the era. They believed the world was a
- 12:49mistake born from the grief of a divine being named Sophia.
- 12:53They operated inside the early churches, whispering secrets to
- 12:57those they felt were spiritual enough to hear them.
- 13:02The Sethians trace their lineage back to Seth, the third son of
- 13:06Adam. They were the ones who wrote the
- 13:08most complex cosmologies, detailing the Archons, the
- 13:12Celestial Jailers, and the Aeons, the realms of light.
- 13:18This was a golden age of Apocrypha, the hidden books.
- 13:22In dimly lit rooms across Egypt and Syria, scribes were penning
- 13:27the Gospel of Thomas, the secret Book of John, and the Gospel of
- 13:32Truth. They were written in Coptic and
- 13:35Greek, shared in secret, and treated as more sacred than the
- 13:39public Gospels. But as the Proto Orthodox Church
- 13:45began to gain political power, these books became a liability.
- 13:49To own one was to be a traitor to the one true faith.
- 13:53As the fires of censorship began to rise, those who love these
- 13:57texts faced a choice. Destroy the knowledge or hide it
- 14:01where the children of the storm God would never find.
- 14:13It are you ignorant or asclepios?
- 14:18That Egypt is the image of heaven, our land.
- 14:22Is the temple of the world, but a time will come.
- 14:28When Egyptians will seem to have served the divinity in vain.
- 14:34The country that was more pious. Than all countries will become
- 14:39impious. No longer will it be full of
- 14:42temples, but it will be full of tombs.
- 14:46Neither will it be full of gods, but it will be full of corpses.
- 14:54All river you will flow with blood more than water.
- 14:59And he who is dead will not be mourned as much as he who is
- 15:03alive. Oh, Egypt.
- 16:24Almost there, mother. Look what we found in the sand.
- 16:33Look at this one. These books are useless.
- 16:41Since you cannot read them. I wish you had brought.
- 16:43Back something more. Useful, but these will do.
- 16:45For kindling. In 1945, near the Egyptian town
- 17:16of Nag Hamadi, 2 young boys uncovered A sealed jar near the
- 17:20cliffs of Jabal al Tarif while digging for sabak, A fertilizer
- 17:25rich soil. They broke open the jar because
- 17:29they thought it might contain something valuable.
- 17:32Inside was a collection of ancient papyrus books bound in
- 17:35leather, hidden away for centuries.
- 17:38They took manuscripts back to the family home, where some of
- 17:41them were burned in the household oven before anyone
- 17:44understood their value. Some pages were already damaged
- 17:48by age, fragmentation and handling.
- 17:52Other pieces had to be reconstructed later by scholars
- 17:55working with incomplete leaves and broken sections.
- 17:59Even the texts we do possess often come to us through copies
- 18:03of copies translated from Greek into Coptic and preserved in 4th
- 18:08century codices that point back to much older traditions.
- 18:12The discovery is now known as the Nag Hamadi Library, 13
- 18:17codices containing more than 50 texts written in Coptic, many of
- 18:22them translated from earlier Greek originals.
- 18:25Among them were works that would become central to modern
- 18:28discussions of Gnosticism, including the Gospel of Thomas,
- 18:32the Gospel of Truth, the Apocryphon of John, and other
- 18:37revelatory, mystical and cosmological writings.
- 18:42Before the discovery at Nag Hamadi, most of what the world
- 18:45knew about Gnosticism came from its enemies.
- 18:49For centuries, Gnostic ideas were known through denunciations
- 18:52written by church fathers and harisiologists.
- 18:56These writers described Gnostics as dangerous, deviant, and
- 19:00wrong. The Nag Hamadi Library changed
- 19:03all of that. It gave scholars direct access
- 19:06to texts associated with Gnostic and related traditions, allowing
- 19:11those voices to finally be heard in their own language, with
- 19:14their own myths, symbols, and theological systems intact.
- 19:20After the discovery, the codices moved through a messy period
- 19:24involving private hands, antiquities channels, delayed
- 19:28access and uneven scholarly circulation.
- 19:32One codex became associated with the Jung Institute in Zurich and
- 19:37later became known as the Jung Codex.
- 19:40Others were gathered into the Coptic Museum in Cairo.
- 19:44For years, access to the texts remained partial and slow, which
- 19:49meant the ideas inside them spread gradually rather than all
- 19:53at once. How would these new sayings of
- 19:56Jesus, not included in the Bible, affect the faithful?
- 20:00These texts weren't in the canonical gospels.
- 20:03So what was their status? Did this.
- 20:05Even mean that the gospels. Themselves didn't transmit.
- 20:08The whole of Jesus teaching. So once again, this was risky
- 20:12territory for Bible believing Christians.
- 20:14The Nag Hamadi discoveries have revolutionized our understanding
- 20:17of early Christianity. A fascinating collection of
- 20:20texts, most of which have never been known before.
- 20:23They were written in Coptic, which is Egyptian.
- 20:26Written in Greek letters. They are translations of the
- 20:29original Greek and so we can go back and get a great deal out of
- 20:31them. Right.
- 20:36But they're telling the same story.
- 20:37And what the story is, is that we are an intention, we're the
- 20:43product of an intentional act, and we were imbued with a force
- 20:47that was greater even than those who created us, and that there
- 20:50has been an effort from that time to deny us that force.
- 20:54Well, how do you? Know that our force is.
- 20:55Greater than those that created. Us I don't know this where.
- 20:57Where are you getting that? From that is from.
- 21:00If you're familiar with the Gnostic texts, there were 13
- 21:04bound books representing over 50 texts.
- 21:08They were the oldest records of the New Testament, and they were
- 21:14the records that were excluded by the the Catholic Church.
- 21:18So among these were things like the Gospel of Thomas, which is
- 21:22considered the second most heretical book.
- 21:27In the Nag Hamadi Library, there's the Gospel of John, also
- 21:30called the Secret Book of John, also called the Apocryphon of
- 21:33John, which is considered the first most heretical book.
- 21:39There are books from Gnostic women.
- 21:41Thunder Perfect Mind is a book by a Gnostic woman that's in
- 21:45there. The Gospel of James is and
- 21:47there's but the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Thomas is
- 21:50one of the probably the most controversial.
- 21:52It's 114 sayings that were recorded by by Thomas and the
- 22:02book says Didymus Thomas. It was was the name and it's
- 22:07almost like it. It's different from all the
- 22:09other books in that it is each saying is is a teaching unto
- 22:14itself. What he was teaching was so
- 22:17profound for his time. There were outer teachings and
- 22:20inner teachings. The outer teachings were for the
- 22:22masses and it's primarily what you see in the Gospels.
- 22:26The inner teachings were for those initiates that could
- 22:29really understand what it was he was saying.
- 22:31And that's what the Gospel of Thomas appears to be.
- 22:41I will give you what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard,
- 22:44what no hand has touched, and what has never occurred to the
- 22:48human mind. If those who lead you say to you
- 22:51see the Kingdom is in the sky, then the birds of the sky will
- 22:54precede you. If they say to you it is in the
- 22:56sea, then the fish will precede you.
- 22:59Rather, the Kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you.
- 23:03When you come to know yourselves, then you will become
- 23:05known, and you will realize that it is you are the sons of the
- 23:08living Father. When these words attributed to
- 23:14Jesus were first recorded in Greek and Coptic texts, the word
- 23:19for knowledge was gnosis. Those who had knowledge were
- 23:23Gnostics. For some Christians, then,
- 23:26salvation would come through knowledge of a special kind, a
- 23:29knowledge superior to faith. To achieve gnosis was to know
- 23:35one's soul, to know God, and to know the living Jesus.
- 23:40There were people in antiquity who called themselves Gnostics.
- 23:46They said that they were the children of the knowledge of the
- 23:53heart. And that is what gnosis really
- 23:57is about. It is an intuitive knowledge,
- 24:00imaginative thinking, not analytical thinking, but really
- 24:07knowledge of the heart. Gnosis is of the same root as
- 24:12the English word knowledge to know, but it is not an
- 24:17intellectual knowledge. It is more sort of intuitive
- 24:21thinking, imaginative thinking. They themselves call it the
- 24:26knowledge of the heart. With the publication of the
- 24:30mystical Gnostic scriptures from Nag Hamadi, scholars and
- 24:34historians can now consider the role of Gnosticism within the
- 24:37established Christian tradition. The spiritual impulse of nurses
- 24:42is a constant quest for self knowledge and knowledge of God.
- 24:46Today, the knowledge of the heart is shared by millions.
- 24:51And then the Bible teaches physical death comes as a result
- 24:55of sin. All the graveyards, all the
- 24:57hearses, all the ambulances, all of that is a result of the sin
- 25:01of man in the Garden of Eden. At that precise moment, the
- 25:05moment that man sinned and disobeyed God, in that precise
- 25:08moment he was separated from God and Jesus called it hell.
- 25:14Whoever finds the interpretation of these sayings will not
- 25:18experience death. Most of us grow up with a
- 25:32specific shape to the story of our origins.
- 25:36A perfect garden, a benevolent father, a tragic mistake.
- 25:41We are taught that our suffering is our own fault, the result of
- 25:45a prehistoric act of disobedience, an act of sin that
- 25:49was then passed down genetically to every single human born
- 25:52thereafter at infinitum. But the Gnostics looked at that
- 25:57same story and saw something else entirely.
- 26:00They saw a crime scene. To them, the version of the
- 26:04story we have today, the one in the canonical Bible, is more
- 26:08like a piece of state propaganda, written by the
- 26:12victors, edited by the very authorities who wanted humanity
- 26:16to remain submissive, fearful and blind.
- 26:21Why was their version so radically different?
- 26:25Because they believe that if you want to keep a prisoner in a
- 26:27cell, the most effective way to do it is to make them love the
- 26:32jailer. They believe the creator of the
- 26:35garden was a pretender, a false God, and that he had inverted
- 26:40the truth to hide his own tracks.
- 26:43In their view, the commandments were the security protocols, and
- 26:48the fall of man was a jailbreak. To understand this, you have to
- 26:54be willing to look at the Genesis narrative through a very
- 26:56dark, inverted mirror. You must accept the possibility
- 27:01that the villain was the hero and the God of the Garden was a
- 27:05monster. This wasn't just to be
- 27:07contrarian. They believed they had found the
- 27:10uncensored original script, the one that explains why, despite
- 27:14our divine creation, we find ourselves living in a world
- 27:17defined by pain, suffering, decay and death.
- 27:34Before the universe, before the stars, and before the gods,
- 27:38there was the Monad. The Gnostics didn't call this
- 27:41God in the way we do. They called it the Proarch, the
- 27:45first beginning, or the bythose the profound depth.
- 27:50It is a silent, unthinkably vast ocean of pure consciousness.
- 27:56It is the source from which all light flows.
- 28:00From this source, a series of divine emanations began to flow
- 28:04outward, like ripples in a pond. These pairs of male and female
- 28:09energies are called the Aeons. Together they form the Pluroma,
- 28:14the Fullness, the original perfect realm of light.
- 28:19The glitch in the system came from the youngest Aeon, Sophia
- 28:23Wisdom. In her desire to understand the
- 28:26depth of the Monad, Sophia acted alone, without her male
- 28:31counterpart in the divine realm. This was an impossibility, a
- 28:36violation of the cosmic symmetry.
- 28:39Her thought took on a life of its own, but because it was born
- 28:43of a singular imbalance desire, it was deformed.
- 28:48Horrified by what she had produced, a lion headed serpent
- 28:52with eyes of fire, Sophia cast it out of the Pluroma, hiding it
- 28:57within a thick cloud of shadow. This abortion of the divine
- 29:02realm was Yeldebauth, the Demiurge.
- 29:06Born in the darkness and unaware of the light of the Pluroma
- 29:09above him, Yeldebauth believed he was the only thing in
- 29:12existence. He looked at the shadows and the
- 29:15void and began to organize them. He was a blind God.
- 29:21He wasn't necessarily evil, but he was ignorant and arrogant.
- 29:26He mimicked the patterns of the Pluroma he couldn't see,
- 29:29creating a physical world of matter, decay, and death.
- 29:33He then created 7 assistants, the Archons, the planetary
- 29:38jailers who rule over the spheres of our world.
- 29:42As this Demiurge breathed life into the first human, a strange
- 29:46thing happened. Sophia, seeking to recover the
- 29:50light she had lost, tricked the Demiurge.
- 29:53As he breathed spirit into man, he unknowingly exhaled the
- 29:57divine spark he had inherited from his mother.
- 30:00The lower God had built the cage, but the higher God's light
- 30:05was now trapped inside the prisoners.
- 30:07This is the Gnostic tragedy. We are divine royalty living in
- 30:12a slum, suffering from a cosmic amnesia.
- 30:27If you went looking for the Gnostics in the 2nd century,
- 30:31rather than a single church, you would find a chaotic ecosystem
- 30:35of underground cells, secret study circles, and radical
- 30:39philosophers. And because gnosis was an
- 30:42experience rather than a set of rules, the story of the cosmic
- 30:47error changed depending on who you asked.
- 30:51Different maps of the same prison.
- 30:54The most elaborate version came from a group calling themselves
- 30:58the Seed of Seth. Their mythos was a sprawling
- 31:01cosmic epic. To them, the tragedy was a
- 31:05literal war of intelligence. In their texts, the fall of
- 31:09Sophia was a cascade. They described a universe
- 31:13guarded by the Archons. 7 Planetary wardens who patrol the
- 31:17borders of our reality to ensure no soul ever escapes.
- 31:22The Sethians saw themselves as divine sleeper agents.
- 31:27They believed the true God had sent a third son, the biblical
- 31:31Seth, to move through history in various disguises, whispering
- 31:36the codes of the jailbreak to those who were ready to wake up.
- 31:41Then there was Valentinus, arguably the most brilliant mind
- 31:46of the ancient world. He took the horror of the
- 31:50Gnostic myth and turned it into a psychological drama.
- 31:54To the Valentinians, the Demiurge wasn't a monster.
- 31:59He was a tragic figure of ignorance.
- 32:01He was like a child playing with blocks, unaware that the wood he
- 32:06was using was actually the solidified grief and fear of his
- 32:10mother, Sophia. In this version, our physical
- 32:13world is literally made of divine tears.
- 32:17The mountains are her frozen sorrow, The oceans are her
- 32:21weeping. For a Valentinian, the path to
- 32:25Gnosis was about healing the divine rift through love.
- 32:29They believed that even the Demiurge, the blind Creator
- 32:33himself, could eventually be educated and brought back into
- 32:36the light. In the more obscure circles,
- 32:42like those who followed a teacher named Justin, the story
- 32:45took a barbarian turn. They believed there were 3
- 32:49original powers, a good God, a flawed father named Elohim, and
- 32:54a half woman, half snake mother named Eden.
- 32:58In this bizarre triangle, Elohim and Eden fell in love and
- 33:02created humanity as a celebration of their union.
- 33:06But when Elohim finally saw the true light above him, he
- 33:09abandoned the earth to return to the heavens.
- 33:13Eden, heartbroken and enraged at being left behind, turned her
- 33:17sorrow into the evils of the world.
- 33:21We are the children of a broken home, caught between a father
- 33:24who left us and a mother who is holding us hostage in her grief.
- 33:29One of the most radical edges of the movement were the canines.
- 33:33They believed that the God of the Bible was so fundamentally
- 33:36evil that the only way to be holy was to do the exact
- 33:40opposite of his laws. They venerated the villains of
- 33:44history as freedom fighters. They saw Cain as the first man
- 33:48to resist the tyrant, and they saw the people of Sodom as
- 33:52heroes who were destroyed because they wouldn't bow to the
- 33:54jailer. Most shockingly, they believed
- 33:58Judas Iscariot was the only apostle who truly understood
- 34:01Jesus. In their view, Jesus asked Judas
- 34:06to betray him so that his soul could finally be released from
- 34:09the prison of his physical body. To a canine, the betrayal was
- 34:14actually the ultimate act of friendship.
- 34:17These diverse myths were all just different ways of
- 34:20describing the same haunting intuition.
- 34:23You are an exile in your own skin and now is the time to find
- 34:27your way home. I can explain Gnosticism if you
- 34:35want. Why don't you give us a a
- 34:37thumbnail sketch of what it means to to have a Gnostic?
- 34:41Yeah, Christian theology. What is that?
- 34:42So Gnosticism, the term comes from the Greek word for
- 34:45knowledge. The Greek word for knowledge is
- 34:48gnosis, spelled with AG. GNOSIS means knowledge in Greek.
- 34:53There were a number of Christian groups in the second and third
- 34:57centuries, especially starting out probably somewhat after the
- 35:01New Testament period, who maintained that Jesus brought
- 35:05salvation not by dying on the cross and being raised again,
- 35:09but by delivering the secret knowledge that was necessary for
- 35:14people to learn so that they could escape the material
- 35:18trappings of their body to go to a spiritual heavenly realm.
- 35:23The idea, the basic idea behind this is a kind of a dualism
- 35:27where there's a spiritual realm that is good and positive and
- 35:31there's a material realm that is really quite awful.
- 35:35And so our suffering comes because we're material beings.
- 35:38And so our bodies can get injured, we can starve.
- 35:42We, we die, we, you know, bad things and we get diseases, bad
- 35:46things happen to us because of our bodies.
- 35:48And so the material world itself is a problem.
- 35:51And so in these Gnostic religions, the material world
- 35:54did not come into existence by the creation of a good God.
- 35:58The material world came into existence because of a cosmic
- 36:01disaster. And before the cosmic disaster,
- 36:04there was only a spiritual realm with divine beings.
- 36:07But because of things that happened in this this realm,
- 36:11eventually there was a disaster that happened that led to the
- 36:13creation of the material world. And it LED some elements of the
- 36:18spiritual world to be trapped here in human bodies.
- 36:21So some people have a divine spark within them, a part of the
- 36:25divine within them. And the goal of the Gnostic
- 36:28religion is to allow them to escape their material trappings,
- 36:31to return to their spiritual home.
- 36:34And that can only happen if they receive correct knowledge,
- 36:37gnosis. And so these Gnostic texts are
- 36:40largely about the revelations of the secret knowledge that can
- 36:45bring salvation. To the Orthodox, Jesus was the
- 36:52son of the Creator, sent to mend the relationship between the
- 36:56Potter and his clay. But to a Gnostic, that version
- 37:00of Jesus was a decoy. In the secret traditions, Jesus
- 37:05was something far more radical, an alien.
- 37:09He did not come from the God of this world, nor was he sent to
- 37:12uphold its laws. He was a foreigner from the
- 37:16Pluroma, the realm of pure light that exists outside the black
- 37:20box of our universe, and he was on a cosmic rescue mission.
- 37:26He came not to pay a debt to a jealous God or to die for sins.
- 37:31He came to infiltrate the prison, bypass the Archonic
- 37:34security, and whisper the source code of our true identity into
- 37:38the ears of the captives. He was the ghost in the machine,
- 37:43a being of such high frequency that the physical world couldn't
- 37:46even truly hold him. The most jarring difference in
- 37:51the Gnostic mythos is the nature of Jesus's body.
- 37:54Most Gnostic sects were dos Attic from the Greek Dokin
- 37:58meaning to seem. They believe that because the
- 38:02material world was an evil construct of the Demiurge, a
- 38:06pure divine being from the Pluroma could never truly
- 38:10inhabit flesh. He wore a man like a disguise.
- 38:15He was a holographic projection. In the Acts of John, it's
- 38:19claimed that when Jesus walked, he left no footprints.
- 38:24When his disciples tried to touch him, their hands passed
- 38:27through him as if he were made of light.
- 38:32The most controversial of the Gnostic inversions was the
- 38:35crucifixion. In the second treatise of the
- 38:37Great Seth, Jesus himself narrates the execution.
- 38:41He describes standing on a nearby hill laughing while the
- 38:45Romans and the Pharisees crucify a substitute.
- 38:48They thought they were killing the Son of God, but they were
- 38:52actually nailing a shadow or a man of flesh named Simon of
- 38:56Cyrene to a piece of wood. I was laughing at their
- 39:01ignorance, for I was not ashamed as they were.
- 39:05To the Gnostic, the idea that God could be killed by a Roman
- 39:09spear was an absurdity. The Jesus that died was merely
- 39:14the shell that the Demiurge's Law could reach.
- 39:17The true Christ remained untouched, mocking the Archons
- 39:21for thinking they had won. In the Saithian tradition, the
- 39:33role of Jesus is explicitly linked back to the Garden.
- 39:37Some texts even suggest that Jesus himself was the serpent in
- 39:41the Garden of Eden. He came to finish what the
- 39:43serpent started. If the serpent gave the first
- 39:46software update, the realization that we are naked ignorant, He
- 39:51came to deliver the full version.
- 39:53He is the Logos, the word of the True Father, sent to remind the
- 39:57divine spark that it doesn't belong to the King of this
- 40:01world. While the New Testament ends
- 40:03with the resurrection and a quick departure, Gnostic texts
- 40:07like the Pistus Sophia claim that Jesus stayed on Earth for
- 40:1011 or 12 years after his death. During this time, he sat with
- 40:14Mary Magdalene, John, and Thomas, giving them the real
- 40:18lessons. He taught them the passwords,
- 40:21the Apatas, the names of the Archons, and the exact
- 40:25invocations needed to slip past the planetary tollbooths and
- 40:29return to the Pluroma in the Gospel of Mary.
- 40:32In the Gospel of Philip, Mary Magdalene is not a penitent
- 40:35prostitute, She is the apostle to the apostles.
- 40:40The text suggests a consort relationship, a syzygy divine
- 40:45pair. Jesus loved her more than all
- 40:48the other disciples because she was the only one whose gnosis
- 40:52was complete. This represented the restoration
- 40:55of the male and female balance, the Pluroma that had been broken
- 40:59when Sophia fell. In her, Jesus found the earthly
- 41:03reflection of the Divine Feminine.
- 41:12We have uncovered the library, identified the jailer, and met
- 41:16the cosmic infiltrator. But to understand the true scale
- 41:19of the Gnostic vision, we have to look closer at the bars of
- 41:23the cage itself. We have to look at the mechanics
- 41:26of the Matrix and how the ancients believed we could
- 41:29finally break the cycle of the Return.
- 41:33In the Gnostic universe, the Earth is not at the center of a
- 41:36vast open heaven. It is at the bottom of a nested
- 41:39sphere of prisons. Between our world and the true
- 41:43light of the Pluroma stand the seven planetary spheres, each
- 41:47ruled by an Archon, A ruler or governor.
- 41:51These are the seven sons of the Demiurge.
- 41:55They were born of his ignorance, and they share his jealousy.
- 42:00To a Gnostic, the planets weren't just lights in the sky,
- 42:04they were checkpoints. Each Archon acts as a cosmic
- 42:07customs officer. When a soul dies and attempts to
- 42:11ascend back to the source, it must pass through each gate.
- 42:15If the soul doesn't have the correct pass codes, the secret
- 42:19names and signs, the Archons will block its path, judge it
- 42:23based on its sins against the Demiurge's Law, and cast it back
- 42:27down into a new body to begin the cycle again.
- 42:31To pass through the void, the toll must be paid.
- 42:37In the Secret Book of John, the Archons are described as mixing
- 42:40a drink of forgetfulness derived from the shadows of the world.
- 42:45They force the soul to drink this before it is reincarnated,
- 42:49ensuring that when we wake up in a new body, we have no memory of
- 42:53our divine origin. We forget we are royalty.
- 42:57We forget the Pluroma. We start to believe that this
- 43:00world and the Archons who rule it are all there is.
- 43:05This is the cycle of the return. The Archons don't want to
- 43:09destroy you, they want to harvest you.
- 43:12They feed on the emotional energy, the fears and the
- 43:15worship of the sparks they keep trapped in the basement.
- 43:26In the Books of Zhu, one of the most technical Gnostic texts,
- 43:30Jesus provides the literal invocations and sigils needed to
- 43:33bypass each Archon. He tells his disciples, when you
- 43:38come to the third gate, the Archon will ask you who are you
- 43:43And you shall answer. I am a son of the father of the
- 43:48pre existent one. I am a spark of the light.
- 44:12For nearly 2000 years, the Gnostic vision was buried,
- 44:17burned and forgotten. But in the 20th century, the
- 44:21secret seed began to grow again. It started with the legendary
- 44:26psychologist Carl Jung. When he read the Nag Hamadi
- 44:30texts, he saw a map of the human psyche.
- 44:34Jung realized that the Demiurge, the arrogant, blind creator, is
- 44:39the ego, the part of us that builds walls, creates rules, and
- 44:45fears anything it cannot control.
- 44:48Sophia is our intuition, our fallen wisdom trapped in the
- 44:52basement of our subconscious. The jailbreak the Gnostics
- 44:57talked about is what Jung called individuation, the process of
- 45:02waking up to who you truly are. But the most startling resonance
- 45:06is in our technology. Today, leading physicists openly
- 45:11discuss the simulation hypothesis, the idea that our
- 45:15reality is an artificial construct, a base layer of code
- 45:20generated by a higher intelligence.
- 45:24Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know.
- 45:29Something what you know? You can't explain.
- 45:32But you feel it. You felt it your entire life.
- 45:37That there's something wrong with the world.
- 45:38You don't know what it. Is, but it's there, like a
- 45:41splinter in your mind, driving you mad.
- 45:46It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
- 45:52Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 45:55The Matrix. Do you want to know what it is?
- 46:05In modern films like The Matrix, a man realizes his world is a
- 46:09digital cage, a prison built by an architect.
- 46:13This is the ancient Gnostic myth played out in real time.
- 46:17We are still obsessed with the idea that there is a real world
- 46:20behind the flickering screen of our senses.
- 46:25The Gnostic vision ends with a withdrawal.
- 46:28Eventually every spark of light will be recovered.
- 46:32Every prisoner will find the exit, and when the last spark
- 46:36leaves this world, the material universe, the Demiurge's great
- 46:40mistake, will simply cease to exist.
- 46:44Without the light to sustain it, the shadow will evaporate.
- 46:52What is Gnosticism? It is the oldest rebellion in
- 46:56history. It is the refusal to accept that
- 46:59suffering is divine or that our limitations are natural.
- 47:04It is a legacy of thinkers, artists, and rebels who believed
- 47:08that the true God doesn't demand worship, it demands awakening.
- 47:14The world is a gift only if you are free to leave it.
- 47:18And the key to the gate isn't found in a temple or a book.
- 47:21It's found in the realization that we were never prisoners to
- 47:24begin with. We were royalty who forgot we
- 47:27were wearing a crown.
