The Cherokee Nation just unveiled the Ani Art Center in Stilwell — a vibrant new hub for art and culture named after the Cherokee word for strawberry, paying tribute to the town’s historic title as the “Strawberry Capital of the World.” Featuring rotating gallery exhibits and dedicated spaces for cultural classes, the center was made possible by the Cherokee Artist Recovery Act, which allocated $4 million to support Cherokee artists, expand their visibility, and create new opportunities for their work.
